- 0:48Speaker 1: sports podcast show in the world, eleven and a half
- 0:51Speaker 1: years strong, and you got a great show for you
- 0:53Speaker 1: this week. It's a holiday season, folks. Happy holidays to
- 0:56Speaker 1: you and yours. Hope you are traveling safe if you're
- 1:01Speaker 1: out there on planes, if you're on trains, and if
- 1:04Speaker 1: you're on automobiles. Oh, one of my favorite Thanksgiving movies.
- 1:10Speaker 1: I know Eric likes that too. I'm Jeff Warren. Here
- 1:12Speaker 1: are Eric Leonard? What's up, buddy?
- 1:14Speaker 2: Hey, It's not even one of my favorite things to
- 1:16Speaker 2: give me. It's just one of my favorite movies.
- 1:18Speaker 1: It's fantastic movie.
- 1:19Speaker 3: It's incredible and John and I think in hindsight now
- 1:22Speaker 3: and people are like John Canny was like not only
- 1:24Speaker 3: comedic genius, who was just a comedian or just a
- 1:27Speaker 3: genius actor.
- 1:28Speaker 2: Yes, that movie should have won an came award.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Nice. Nice to meet you, Neil Page.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I like me.
- 1:37Speaker 1: I like me, My wife likes me, my customers like me.
- 1:42Speaker 3: And when he when he finally confesses that she's dead,
- 1:45Speaker 3: Oh my god, it's a heartbreaker.
- 1:47Speaker 2: It breaks your heart. Can you look at the guy like,
- 1:49Speaker 2: what a poor sap? I love you. I want to
- 1:51Speaker 2: hug you like that all in one sense he pulls
- 1:54Speaker 2: that off. It's amazing.
- 1:55Speaker 1: A few years ago, when we started the tradition at
- 1:57Speaker 1: our house watching that movie on Thanksgiving, like the day
- 2:00Speaker 1: after or something. My one daughter when he when he
- 2:04Speaker 1: goes I don't have a home like that, she started bawling.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I was like, oh no, and she's like it's so
- 2:12Speaker 1: sad as she goes Neil, it's so mean to him.
- 2:18Speaker 3: It's like he's so obnoxious in that movie, and you
- 2:21Speaker 3: can't stand him to be able to like hit both
- 2:23Speaker 3: spectrums of I can't stand him too, Oh my god,
- 2:27Speaker 3: I love him.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Yeah and take him home with me?
- 2:29Speaker 3: Yeah that like even I guess Bill Murray, what about
- 2:33Speaker 3: Bob might be even he doesn't pull off like he's
- 2:36Speaker 3: never like a loving guy.
- 2:37Speaker 2: I never feel like, oh I take him home with exactly. Yeah. Yeah,
- 2:41Speaker 2: it's incredible. Can I say something I'm thankful for?
- 2:45Speaker 1: Oh yeah, let's get into some thankful stuff.
- 2:48Speaker 3: I'm thankful for the Sixers being so awful and I'm
- 2:52Speaker 3: now gambling against them and winning money.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Oh god, are we doing this now? Are we doing
- 2:58Speaker 1: this now?
- 2:59Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 2:59Speaker 1: I can fashion time.
- 3:00Speaker 3: I I uh, I put I put some I put
- 3:03Speaker 3: some cash hole on on the Rockets tonight to win
- 3:07Speaker 3: happened and.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Ship in a bad way.
- 3:12Speaker 3: So listen, if I have to watch this team and
- 3:14Speaker 3: the whole, the whole, it's going down to the shiitter
- 3:18Speaker 3: this year, I might as we win some money, man.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Exactly exactly. But we've never done that though. It's like
- 3:23Speaker 1: we don't bet on our teams here. You just don't
- 3:26Speaker 1: do it.
- 3:27Speaker 3: I was just looking at gains some night, like the
- 3:28Speaker 3: Rockets are really good. They they're really good in spots
- 3:31Speaker 3: where the Sixers can't defend them. They have notes center
- 3:33Speaker 3: and Andrea drumm it's and Shangun's really good. I was
- 3:36Speaker 3: just like, they have no shot, and I know who's
- 3:38Speaker 3: going to score at least twenty points on both teams.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I might as well throw some money. And I did.
- 3:41Speaker 2: I want to like eighty bucks.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Oh my god. Nice geez. Well, I gotta say it
- 3:48Speaker 1: was nice hanging out with you this past weekend, actually
- 3:51Speaker 1: getting to see each other face to face and and
- 3:53Speaker 1: folks to pull back the curtain here. One of the
- 3:55Speaker 1: reasons why that happened is like every every year, I
- 3:58Speaker 1: like to get Eric and Len a little something, a
- 4:00Speaker 1: little something special for doing the show, because these guys
- 4:03Speaker 1: are like, we don't want any money. Not that this
- 4:05Speaker 1: show makes a lot, I'll tell you that right now,
- 4:08Speaker 1: but they're like, yeah, we don't want any money. So
- 4:09Speaker 1: I got Eric because we went to in May, we
- 4:12Speaker 1: went to a Pig Destroyer show and it was a
- 4:15Speaker 1: great show. It was fantastic and I know a lot
- 4:18Speaker 1: of folks out there might not be into metal, but
- 4:20Speaker 1: the show and met a lot to Eric and myself.
- 4:23Speaker 1: I bought him a Pig Destroyer. I have been wanting
- 4:25Speaker 1: for three months to get him this Pig Destroyer vinyl,
- 4:29Speaker 1: and every time I would order it online, I would
- 4:33Speaker 1: be sent something different. It was enraging. So I actually
- 4:37Speaker 1: finally got it ordered and took it out to see him,
- 4:39Speaker 1: and it was nice hanging out. Buddy, Glad you got
- 4:42Speaker 1: the album.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's not even metals grindcore. It is. Yeah,
- 4:46Speaker 2: it is a very specific form of metal. People who
- 4:50Speaker 2: love it love it.
- 4:51Speaker 3: People who don't hate it right, yes, because it kind
- 4:55Speaker 3: of grinds on the ears a little bit. Yeah, awesome,
- 4:57Speaker 3: show you got me prouder in the yard. There's record
- 5:00Speaker 3: is a classic. The cover is brutally gross, and yeah
- 5:04Speaker 3: it was. Finally, it was a lot better than uh.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Yeah, where were you set? Where were you set? Initially,
- 5:09Speaker 1: when I bought you the uh, the Pig Destroyer album, yeah,
- 5:12Speaker 1: you're like, hey.
- 5:13Speaker 2: You should have got something. And I opened it up
- 5:14Speaker 2: like it's it's it's.
- 5:15Speaker 3: A Gwar live album, like like after the lead singer died,
- 5:21Speaker 3: so it was like the newer Gwar.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I was like, this is kind of cool.
- 5:25Speaker 3: And I showed it to you and send you a
- 5:26Speaker 3: picture and You're like, that's not what I got.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that's not it.
- 5:29Speaker 2: That's not what I like War.
- 5:31Speaker 3: But I'm not the biggest fan, so I sent it back,
- 5:34Speaker 3: get another one, I hope up this one, and it's
- 5:36Speaker 3: it's fucking skid Rose latest record, not even a realm no,
- 5:43Speaker 3: like I kind of like some of their early songs,
- 5:46Speaker 3: but like I was like that, this is definitely not it.
- 5:48Speaker 2: This is from like twenty twenty three. Every song's terrible.
- 5:51Speaker 1: I was enraged by it.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Yeah, like in their sixties now, it's just nothing to
- 5:55Speaker 3: yell about.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Their music was never all that good.
- 5:58Speaker 1: But it was one of the first album covers I
- 5:59Speaker 1: actually ever saw where the band was faced backwards. They
- 6:04Speaker 1: were fat. You couldn't see their faces. It's like they
- 6:06Speaker 1: were walking away or something. And that's that was the
- 6:08Speaker 1: photo on the front of the album. It was the
- 6:10Speaker 1: first album I've ever seen where you you can't see
- 6:13Speaker 1: the guy's faces.
- 6:15Speaker 3: My take was keep walking, don't come back ever make
- 6:18Speaker 3: music again. When I saw the cover, or or they
- 6:22Speaker 3: were so ashamed of the record they couldn't show their faces, right, Yeah,
- 6:26Speaker 3: they're all wearing the same jacket and skid row jacket
- 6:29Speaker 3: like like a biker game.
- 6:32Speaker 2: It's tympathetic. The song. We listened to some of the
- 6:34Speaker 2: songs on iTunes for iTunes. I got them one of
- 6:37Speaker 2: my eighties and it's it's awful. It's like I'm mad,
- 6:42Speaker 2: I'm not gonna take it anymore. It's like, yeah, let's see,
- 6:45Speaker 2: like when I could.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Take what exactly going to be rebellious?
- 6:50Speaker 2: Yeah, my medicaid.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Well, I'm glad you got the Pig Destroyer album. There
- 6:57Speaker 1: was good hanging out with you and we Thanksgiving tomorrow.
- 7:01Speaker 1: We're recording this Wednesday, November twenty seventh, and dude, I
- 7:05Speaker 1: can't wait to just fill my entire fat body with carbs.
- 7:09Speaker 1: I cannot wait. Greatest day of the year. Family, food, football,
- 7:13Speaker 1: the three f's.
- 7:14Speaker 3: One particular food item that Sarah's family does are fried oysters.
- 7:20Speaker 2: Really good. Yeah, that's probably my.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Favorite thing besides her mom stuffing. But they have fried
- 7:25Speaker 3: oysters and stuffing with a little bit of like a
- 7:28Speaker 3: hot sauce on it, with a what do you call it?
- 7:31Speaker 2: What's the sup? Oh my god? This soft we dipped
- 7:34Speaker 2: shrimp in. I just hottail sauce sauce.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Yes, but yeah, non, I'm excited to have like twenty
- 7:43Speaker 3: those tomorrow and just feel fat as hell.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Oh yes, yeah.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Greatest holiday of the year, folks, greatest holiday for sure. Thanksgiving. Well,
- 7:51Speaker 1: we got a good show. I mean, we keep talking
- 7:53Speaker 1: about music, Thanksgiving, carbs here with stuff we're gonna be eating.
- 7:58Speaker 1: But there's a lot going on in the world of
- 8:00Speaker 1: Philly sports here. We're gonna get in some major League
- 8:02Speaker 1: Baseball talk and some Phillies talk, what's happening with this team,
- 8:05Speaker 1: some rumors who they may acquire during this offseason. Then
- 8:09Speaker 1: we're gonna get into some Eagles talk because Brandon Graham
- 8:12Speaker 1: is out for the season. As we know, Bryce huff
- 8:14Speaker 1: is on IR. Just gonna give some thoughts on this
- 8:17Speaker 1: Eagles defense, the pass rush moving forward, since they still
- 8:21Speaker 1: are the number one defense in the league. Should we
- 8:23Speaker 1: be worried at all? And from there gonna get into
- 8:26Speaker 1: some Sixers talk. Can't wait for that one. What a disaster?
- 8:31Speaker 2: Why God?
- 8:32Speaker 1: Why guys? Then while we're thrown down on the table,
- 8:36Speaker 1: I get a great interview in discussion with Dan ash
- 8:38Speaker 1: from Brotherlypuck dot com. He's gonna join us to get
- 8:41Speaker 1: in some Flyers analysis and what we've can see with
- 8:43Speaker 1: this team with regard to the rebuild. Mattve Mitchkov is
- 8:47Speaker 1: just a freaking delight to watch. He really is. It's amazing.
- 8:50Speaker 1: I can't wait to see what this young kid is
- 8:52Speaker 1: gonna be even five years from now. It's gonna be fun.
- 8:54Speaker 1: So let's get into some Major League Baseball and Phillies talk.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Of course, as many of us this past week are
- 9:02Speaker 1: watching and following sports news, we get the notifications on
- 9:07Speaker 1: our phone that Blake Snell signs with the Dodgers five years,
- 9:11Speaker 1: one hundred and eighty two million dollars. Man, they did
- 9:14Speaker 1: not waste any time. Dodgers just keep spending money, they
- 9:18Speaker 1: keep winning. Look, I didn't necessarily think the Phillies We're
- 9:21Speaker 1: gonna be signing Blake Snell by any stretch. But uh,
- 9:25Speaker 1: I mean, Dodger's still at the still at the top
- 9:28Speaker 1: of the hill here in terms of being able to
- 9:32Speaker 1: acquire talent, and they're they're not gonna go away anytime soon. Man,
- 9:35Speaker 1: the Dodgers are gonna be relevant for a long time here. Eric.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Yeah, And there's even rumors I think that they're they
- 9:40Speaker 3: have the they have the inroads on the latest player
- 9:44Speaker 3: coming from Japan, the pitcher.
- 9:47Speaker 2: Yep.
- 9:47Speaker 3: And it's they're already they're saying like it's almost like
- 9:50Speaker 3: a wink wink done deal. But you can't say anything yet.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Yeah, what like I, I, how do you compete? Like?
- 9:59Speaker 3: And I you like one of those like Boston Red
- 10:01Speaker 3: Sox fans back in the early two thousands saying like,
- 10:04Speaker 3: how we compete with the Yankees. Meanwhile, your your payroll
- 10:06Speaker 3: is just as high as theirs. But this is actually
- 10:10Speaker 3: this is going to another level. Like the Phillies spent
- 10:12Speaker 3: a lot of money, but they ain't spending Yankees Dodgers' money.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Like, actually, Dodgers a number one. It's not even close.
- 10:18Speaker 3: They won the World Series, oddly enough, more on hitting
- 10:21Speaker 3: than pitching. But I and we could talk about it
- 10:26Speaker 3: a couple more segments here for the Phillies, but like
- 10:29Speaker 3: it's almost like, okay, what direction should we because everyone's
- 10:33Speaker 3: watching what the Dodgers do because that's the team you
- 10:35Speaker 3: have to beat. So as a Phillies fan, you look
- 10:37Speaker 3: at that they signed Blake Snell. They might get this
- 10:39Speaker 3: other kid, another great arm do you load upon the
- 10:44Speaker 3: load up on bats.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Or you go like into an arms ring? Like like, what,
- 10:48Speaker 2: what's what's the next move for the for the Phillies.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. And look there there's a story that came
- 10:53Speaker 1: out this past week because we kind of move along
- 10:56Speaker 1: with this with this story and where the Phillies might
- 10:58Speaker 1: want to go this off seat and Jeff Hoffman has
- 11:01Speaker 1: apparently said that he thinks that he would quote be
- 11:05Speaker 1: a great starter if given that opportunity again, and the
- 11:09Speaker 1: fact that he put that out there really means that
- 11:12Speaker 1: of course he's given it some consideration, giving it some thought.
- 11:15Speaker 1: And I know there's some people out there saying, what
- 11:17Speaker 1: are you talking about. Jeff Hoffman's one of the you know,
- 11:20Speaker 1: great Phillies closers here in our contemporary history here, But
- 11:23Speaker 1: look on, I'll say this that he was drafted by
- 11:28Speaker 1: the Toronto Blue Jays back in the twenty fourteen draft class.
- 11:32Speaker 1: He was recovering from Tommy John surgery. Made thirteen minor
- 11:35Speaker 1: league starts the next season before being dealt to Colorado,
- 11:39Speaker 1: where he finally made the big leagues in twenty sixteen.
- 11:43Speaker 1: With the Rockies, he as a starting pitcher, posted a
- 11:47Speaker 1: pretty solid one point one wins above replacement campaign, and
- 11:50Speaker 1: that was twenty seventeen. Primarily as a starter, he he
- 11:54Speaker 1: had ninety nine and a third innings a four point
- 11:57Speaker 1: seventy six ERA. But after that he was in very ineffective,
- 12:02Speaker 1: including two seasons then with the Cincinnati Reds and he
- 12:05Speaker 1: kind of just dropped off. And that's where the aspects
- 12:10Speaker 1: of his bullpen arm really kind of came into play.
- 12:15Speaker 1: And of course we know what he's been able to
- 12:17Speaker 1: do for this Philadelphia Phillies team. So the real question
- 12:20Speaker 1: for Jeff Hoffman in free agency is whether or not
- 12:23Speaker 1: he wants to try to be a starter again or
- 12:26Speaker 1: whether or not he wants to be a reliever. I
- 12:28Speaker 1: think if he wants to keep that reliever role, I
- 12:30Speaker 1: think I should say this, Eric, I think he's gonna
- 12:33Speaker 1: see what's out there on the starting pitcher market and
- 12:35Speaker 1: what teams may actually be interested in him. I'm not
- 12:39Speaker 1: sure how far that's gonna go, given the contemporary history
- 12:42Speaker 1: of what his arm has been coming out of the bullpen,
- 12:46Speaker 1: and since he has been so very solid I mean
- 12:49Speaker 1: during his time in Philadelphia. I mean, he's become accustomed
- 12:52Speaker 1: to pitching in the biggest spots for one of the
- 12:54Speaker 1: best teams in baseball, in front of one of the
- 12:56Speaker 1: most passionate fan bases in the sport. I mean, I
- 12:59Speaker 1: think the those factors make a return to the Phillies
- 13:02Speaker 1: a very strong possibility, especially if he says I've tested
- 13:06Speaker 1: the market, see what the starter you know, rotation market is,
- 13:10Speaker 1: and I guess it's not out there, then I think
- 13:12Speaker 1: he comes back to Philadelphia. But I don't know the
- 13:15Speaker 1: fact that he's testing the starting pitcher market already during
- 13:19Speaker 1: free agency, it makes me think he might not actually
- 13:21Speaker 1: be back and that's good. That's gonna stink for this team.
- 13:23Speaker 1: I don't know, have you given us any thought?
- 13:26Speaker 3: Yeah, And the thought is from the perspective of him
- 13:29Speaker 3: and his agent, Like what are they thinking because he's
- 13:31Speaker 3: a he's thirty one years old, right, he's gonna be
- 13:35Speaker 3: let me think he's gonna be thirty two next season. Yeah,
- 13:38Speaker 3: So I think he's thinking he has one more big
- 13:41Speaker 3: deal and maybe he maybe he's being advised like to
- 13:44Speaker 3: maximize his actually is like maximum earnings to or like
- 13:50Speaker 3: as much money as he can make. Maybe he's trying
- 13:53Speaker 3: to get one more or large deal and obviously that's
- 13:56Speaker 3: not going to come in middle relief. That's always going
- 13:58Speaker 3: to come in the form of starting pitching. Yeah, the
- 14:00Speaker 3: deals will be always be longer, but it's risky in
- 14:04Speaker 3: my opinion, Like do you.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Do that and there's no interest? Right?
- 14:09Speaker 3: Like does that does that like soften the market for
- 14:12Speaker 3: you as a reliever because you waited too long waiting
- 14:16Speaker 3: to be a starting pitcher to getting started pitching deal?
- 14:20Speaker 3: I don't know, or do the Phillies think, oh, yeah,
- 14:22Speaker 3: maybe he is. I mean he is in our clubhouse,
- 14:24Speaker 3: so maybe he thinks maybe they know he can maybe
- 14:27Speaker 3: be a starter again. A're gonna work with him and
- 14:29Speaker 3: sign him to starter money, Yeah, to to shore up
- 14:32Speaker 3: that like four or five spot that you know Taylon
- 14:35Speaker 3: Walker legendarily dropped or lost.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Yeah, that season. I don't know.
- 14:40Speaker 3: I don't have a definitive answer, but I thought of
- 14:43Speaker 3: it from his perspective.
- 14:44Speaker 2: I It's like, I kind of.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Get both lanes, but I could see how going the
- 14:48Speaker 3: starter route might screw him in the end.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Yeah, it's gonna be interesting to follow this Jeff Hoffman
- 14:53Speaker 1: storyline because he's also had a history of worse than
- 14:56Speaker 1: average walk rates until he landed with the Phillies too,
- 15:00Speaker 1: and that was an approach issue more than a physical one.
- 15:06Speaker 1: So he's used to playing and pitching a certain way
- 15:11Speaker 1: over these years. I just I don't know how often, Eric,
- 15:16Speaker 1: I honestly, I'm trying to think about this as we're
- 15:18Speaker 1: having this conversation. I can't necessarily think of a guy
- 15:21Speaker 1: who's been in a relief position, who's been really, really successful,
- 15:26Speaker 1: especially during the latter part of his career, and then said,
- 15:29Speaker 1: you know what, I'm gonna try starting pitching again. I'm
- 15:32Speaker 1: gonna give it a try and see what I'm able
- 15:35Speaker 1: to do here and a team being able to take
- 15:38Speaker 1: on that type of risk. You know that you were
- 15:40Speaker 1: essentially mentioning too. I just part of it doesn't necessarily
- 15:44Speaker 1: see it happening. But then again, it's it's Major League Baseball,
- 15:47Speaker 1: and there are idiot teams out there that make bizarre
- 15:50Speaker 1: situation or make bizarre decisions based on certain situations that
- 15:55Speaker 1: they are in. So maybe maybe it does happen from
- 15:58Speaker 1: a starting pitching standpoint for him. I don't know, but
- 16:00Speaker 1: it's like it's a really interesting storyline.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Man.
- 16:04Speaker 3: Yeah, he's in the tenth year of his career, going
- 16:06Speaker 3: to the eleventh. I just pulled up his career earnings
- 16:08Speaker 3: nine point three million. Not great, I mean, obviously amazing
- 16:13Speaker 3: to me, I'll tell you, yeah, I agree, But for
- 16:16Speaker 3: the money he's probably looking to get to, like, you know,
- 16:18Speaker 3: retire someday. Maybe he's looking to double that on one last,
- 16:22Speaker 3: one last paycheck. Yeah, because his contract this past year
- 16:25Speaker 3: with the Phillies was nine not even a million bucks,
- 16:27Speaker 3: it was nine and twenty five thousand.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Yeah, So maybe.
- 16:31Speaker 3: Maybe that's his Maybe that's his his goal. And I
- 16:35Speaker 3: think if he does the starter out, his chances of
- 16:39Speaker 3: him leaving Philly are to become incremininingbly higher, way higher, Yes,
- 16:44Speaker 3: because some other team will probably snag him and we
- 16:47Speaker 3: may be looking for another starter and he'll get priced
- 16:50Speaker 3: out in that regard.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Yeah, well, it's an interesting topic to talk about what's
- 16:55Speaker 1: going to happen with this pitching room for the Phillies
- 17:00Speaker 1: during the course of this offseason, because we're all now
- 17:03Speaker 1: starting to hear the rumors that Garrett Crochet from the
- 17:06Speaker 1: White Sox may end up coming to the Phillies in
- 17:09Speaker 1: some sort of trade. USA Today's Bob Nightingale has reported
- 17:15Speaker 1: on a number of things with regard to, you know,
- 17:18Speaker 1: what can happen with this Phillies team. And you know,
- 17:21Speaker 1: one of those rumors is that the Phillies are just
- 17:24Speaker 1: itching to acquire Garrett Crochet. And and and I think
- 17:28Speaker 1: from you know, our good friend of the show, John Stalness,
- 17:31Speaker 1: who's writing over at the Goodfight dot Com every now
- 17:34Speaker 1: and again. You know, John was basically saying in an
- 17:38Speaker 1: article that if if Dave Dombrowski can't make the kind
- 17:41Speaker 1: of changes that he wants to the lineup, and I
- 17:44Speaker 1: don't necessarily think this has anything to do with Juan Sota,
- 17:46Speaker 1: because Won Soda is not coming to the Phillies. I
- 17:48Speaker 1: think at this point we know it's either gonna be
- 17:51Speaker 1: the Yankees or the Mets. Probably the Mets at this
- 17:53Speaker 1: point they seem to be the team that is in
- 17:56Speaker 1: the lead in terms of that. But well, the exactly
- 18:00Speaker 1: could you imagine if he goes to the Doe Could
- 18:01Speaker 1: you imagine that that'd be ridiculous?
- 18:05Speaker 2: It really would.
- 18:06Speaker 1: But like I said, for whatever reason, Dave Dobrowski can't
- 18:09Speaker 1: make the changes that he wants to the actual lineup itself.
- 18:14Speaker 1: The alternative is to, as John said in his article,
- 18:17Speaker 1: strengthen a strength and give the Phillies a super rotation
- 18:22Speaker 1: that really could rival that old twenty eleven group that
- 18:25Speaker 1: helped them win a franchise most one hundred and two games.
- 18:28Speaker 1: So you kind of just you kind of just hone
- 18:32Speaker 1: in on your strength make it that much stronger. But
- 18:36Speaker 1: I still think this is I still think Dave Dombrowski
- 18:39Speaker 1: one is going to try to strengthen the pitching staff
- 18:41Speaker 1: and the rotation. I think he's gonna also try to
- 18:44Speaker 1: strengthen the bullpen as well, and also try to acquire
- 18:47Speaker 1: talent for the lineup too. I think you can do
- 18:50Speaker 1: all of it. I don't think they're gonna spend an
- 18:53Speaker 1: absolute ton of money. They're gonna spend, But I think
- 18:57Speaker 1: Garrett Crochet is probably gonna end up on this team
- 19:00Speaker 1: and this rotation is gonna is gonna look pretty good
- 19:02Speaker 1: this coming season.
- 19:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I think if I'm Don Browski, I kind of
- 19:09Speaker 3: go the route of what how he kind of does
- 19:12Speaker 3: and put, you know, build strength on strength. Like you
- 19:15Speaker 3: just said, you have a got up, you have a
- 19:16Speaker 3: great offensive line. Well let's draft another one in the
- 19:19Speaker 3: second round. Yeah, you know, case like in the case
- 19:21Speaker 3: Atlanta Dickerson right, and then obsolutely in the defensive defensive
- 19:25Speaker 3: tackle position.
- 19:26Speaker 2: He went two years in a row at that position.
- 19:28Speaker 3: I think I think Dombrowski, I think he sees the
- 19:32Speaker 3: limitations in some of the bats that he has and
- 19:35Speaker 3: Alec Baum being mentioned in the possibil trade for this guy, who.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Go get him? He's twenty five.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Yeah, he's been good since he's he's been in the
- 19:46Speaker 3: league now for three years. I think in the major leagues,
- 19:49Speaker 3: he's been good every year. Yeah, he's only to get better.
- 19:52Speaker 3: He's six six, two forty five and he's a lefty too.
- 19:54Speaker 3: Like that, we're we're we're right handed, heavy at the top,
- 19:58Speaker 3: Suarez is a great lefty. To have two great lefties
- 20:01Speaker 3: and two great righty's as your first four, you kind
- 20:04Speaker 3: of mix and match, like you give you get the
- 20:07Speaker 3: starting pitching so much flexibility that you can almost get
- 20:10Speaker 3: away with like your bullpen doesn't have to be super expensive,
- 20:15Speaker 3: and and have like a dominant year like they did
- 20:17Speaker 3: this past year until the playoffs, and you kind of
- 20:20Speaker 3: you kind of you kind of uh, like I said,
- 20:23Speaker 3: you give yourself a better chance I think in the
- 20:25Speaker 3: in the postseason with that ridiculously good starting starting pitching
- 20:30Speaker 3: and then their bat, like they have certain bats in
- 20:33Speaker 3: the line that they're just suspecting the playoffs and it's
- 20:35Speaker 3: kind of been proved.
- 20:36Speaker 2: It's kind of proven out.
- 20:37Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, Alec Baum, if you move him in this trade,
- 20:41Speaker 3: maybe that opens you up to you know, Bregnant coming
- 20:44Speaker 3: in and playing third base, who's a who's a veteran
- 20:47Speaker 3: fits in with the team just just because of the
- 20:51Speaker 3: like I said, the veteran status, and he's been there before.
- 20:54Speaker 3: And I a team with Crochet and starting a line
- 20:57Speaker 3: in the first like three spots the the pitching and
- 21:01Speaker 3: Bregnant at third base. Now I'm got a little more interested, right,
- 21:04Speaker 3: Like that makes way more sense on paper than signing
- 21:09Speaker 3: Juan Soto for six hundred million dollars and then that's
- 21:11Speaker 3: all you do. Yeah like that that that reeks of
- 21:15Speaker 3: another first or second round loss to the Phillies. If
- 21:18Speaker 3: you have really amazing pitching and you solidify the infield
- 21:21Speaker 3: with someone like Bregman and you move on from Alick Baum,
- 21:24Speaker 3: good like, good luck to him.
- 21:26Speaker 2: You know, I like him as a player. I don't think.
- 21:29Speaker 3: He's just he's just not We already have Stott at
- 21:32Speaker 3: second I can't have a second stat at third base
- 21:35Speaker 3: rights sense?
- 21:36Speaker 1: Yeah, like I want to.
- 21:37Speaker 3: I want to solidify that in field and have that
- 21:40Speaker 3: solid pitching. I think that's a smart move that they
- 21:42Speaker 3: could do. That It would move on from alc Baum,
- 21:45Speaker 3: and then you would really have your team for the
- 21:47Speaker 3: next couple of years, with like that two year window
- 21:50Speaker 3: being wide open just because of the pitching alone and
- 21:52Speaker 3: the veteran veteran presence.
- 21:54Speaker 1: What also too, Let's think about the fact too, when
- 21:58Speaker 1: we think about Aaron Nola and we think about Zach Wheeler,
- 22:01Speaker 1: these have been two guys who are just solid, absolutely solid,
- 22:08Speaker 1: But they are getting older, they are getting older. Adding Crochet,
- 22:12Speaker 1: I think we give the Phillies that Ace caliber starting
- 22:15Speaker 1: pitcher to kind of act as a hedge in case
- 22:18Speaker 1: Wheeler and or Nola are less effective over the course
- 22:22Speaker 1: of the next three years or so. And I think
- 22:23Speaker 1: that's something Dave Dombrowski needs to think about too, and
- 22:26Speaker 1: this fan base as well. And I think that's why
- 22:29Speaker 1: it would really be a great move if they brought
- 22:32Speaker 1: him in, because I have a feeling one of these
- 22:35Speaker 1: two pictures and Nola or Wheeler is going to have
- 22:38Speaker 1: some injury issues coming down the pike just they're just
- 22:40Speaker 1: getting older Eric and having somebody like Crochet there is
- 22:44Speaker 1: going to be again Ace caliber starting pitcher. I think
- 22:50Speaker 1: this is something necessary they need to do well.
- 22:53Speaker 3: And if all the rumored articles that I read they
- 22:59Speaker 3: appear to be keeping Andrew Painter in the scenario if
- 23:03Speaker 3: you don't have to throw him in the deal and
- 23:05Speaker 3: you're just getting rid of like well, not just I
- 23:07Speaker 3: don't want to just get rid of Justin Crawford out
- 23:10Speaker 3: on for that matter, but to bring in a twenty
- 23:13Speaker 3: five year old six six lefty who's proven that on
- 23:17Speaker 3: a really shitty White Sox team that no one cares
- 23:19Speaker 3: about they're terrible. He makes an all star team like that.
- 23:24Speaker 3: That shows resilience to me, as on top of like
- 23:27Speaker 3: being like just really really good at at his craft.
- 23:31Speaker 3: I think he would come in and just fit in
- 23:32Speaker 3: with this this team perfectly. And I'm really hoping that
- 23:36Speaker 3: is like the big move and it's not a along
- 23:39Speaker 3: with another signing in the infield, and it's not like
- 23:40Speaker 3: a Banner one Soto kind of move where you're just like, awesome,
- 23:45Speaker 3: we're kind of the same team. Yeah, I love one guy,
- 23:48Speaker 3: but like I kind of have the same twenty twenty
- 23:51Speaker 3: four feel here.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Absolutely. And look, if this is a deal where Alec
- 23:55Speaker 1: Bohm is going elsewhere, so be it even Bryce and Stott,
- 24:00Speaker 1: maybe he would go elsewhere and you bring Trey Turner
- 24:02Speaker 1: over to second base. There are options for the Phillies
- 24:06Speaker 1: here in terms of how they want to construct this
- 24:08Speaker 1: team moving forward. So it's going to be interesting for sure.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Do you have anything else here, Eric before we go
- 24:13Speaker 1: to our first break here? No?
- 24:15Speaker 3: Man, it feels like it's a year away. Yeah, like
- 24:19Speaker 3: these just ended, you know what I mean? Like I know,
- 24:21Speaker 3: I saw the topics and I'm like, oh my god.
- 24:23Speaker 2: I mean, okay, who plays second base again.
- 24:26Speaker 3: Stop, that's right, okay, kind of forgot. Yeah, I was
- 24:29Speaker 3: surprised to see it on the on the agenda, but
- 24:31Speaker 3: he was.
- 24:31Speaker 1: He was forgettable.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Well that and like, you know, you're not going to
- 24:36Speaker 3: do flyers on here with me exactly. I mean, I
- 24:39Speaker 3: know it's the interview, but I'm I'm you know, I
- 24:41Speaker 3: don't I don't creditors tonight, yes, yes, so.

- 25:46Speaker 1: we are back and good to be in your ears,
- 25:49Speaker 1: and we are gonna get into some Eagles discussion here.
- 25:52Speaker 1: It sucks so bad, Eric, that Brandon Graham is out
- 25:56Speaker 1: for the season with a torn try sep. I mean,
- 25:59Speaker 1: at thirty six years old, I think it's likely that
- 26:02Speaker 1: it's probably it for him at this point. I would
- 26:06Speaker 1: think it is. Man, and he went he went out
- 26:10Speaker 1: if if if this past week's game against the Rams
- 26:13Speaker 1: was his last game ever in an Eagles uniform. He
- 26:16Speaker 1: went out having a really really good game. And I'm
- 26:19Speaker 1: glad he had that type of game. But just kind
- 26:21Speaker 1: of sucks, man, considering who he has been, what he
- 26:23Speaker 1: has meant to this team an organization, and what it
- 26:26Speaker 1: means to this pass rush too, which we're gonna get
- 26:28Speaker 1: into us for a second, but I just wanted to
- 26:30Speaker 1: give a shout out just to Brandon Graham just for
- 26:34Speaker 1: just be like one of those awesome guys that everybody
- 26:37Speaker 1: talks about where you actually where people like him, you know,
- 26:41Speaker 1: like where he he he gives the interns that are
- 26:45Speaker 1: at the facility the time. He's nice to them, And
- 26:49Speaker 1: I know that sounds bizarre. Not a lot of people
- 26:51Speaker 1: are nice to interns, but just just an all around
- 26:54Speaker 1: great guy. Kind of sucks that it happens. This type
- 26:57Speaker 1: of shit happens to the good ones, you know, the
- 26:59Speaker 1: good one either die or they get injured and then
- 27:02Speaker 1: they have to go away, which sucks. But I don't know,
- 27:05Speaker 1: I'm really gonna miss seeing him on the field if
- 27:06Speaker 1: this is it for him.
- 27:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I was thinking about Uh. I was watching an
- 27:11Speaker 3: ig real the other day and it was of Jerome
- 27:14Speaker 3: Brown just just destroying entire teams, like destroying their offensive line,
- 27:22Speaker 3: and how good he would have been. It was so
- 27:24Speaker 3: short lived, and it was one of the worst days
- 27:26Speaker 3: of my life as a fourteen year old when I
- 27:27Speaker 3: heard he died.
- 27:29Speaker 2: To that point in your life, there's not a lot of.
- 27:30Speaker 3: Heartbreak, but I remember being like crying a little bit,
- 27:33Speaker 3: like I can't believe the greatest eagle I've ever seen
- 27:37Speaker 3: even Dan, I was like, he is. They have Reggie
- 27:39Speaker 3: White and the team, but I was still like, Jerome
- 27:41Speaker 3: Brown is the coolest, fadest dude in the world. I
- 27:45Speaker 3: put Brandon Graham in that same category. Honestly, he's I
- 27:50Speaker 3: think he's. Is he the longest tenured Eagle ever or
- 27:53Speaker 3: played the most game for the Eagles?
- 27:54Speaker 1: I think he could be. I don't know that off
- 27:56Speaker 1: the top of my head.
- 27:58Speaker 3: I think I saw that, and then maybe a drum
- 28:00Speaker 3: Brown is how he should have had his whole career
- 28:01Speaker 3: there too, But and just not just a super good guy,
- 28:06Speaker 3: but awesome at football. My god, he was solid every
- 28:10Speaker 3: single He might have had one maybe two years where
- 28:13Speaker 3: it was kind of shaky and it's like do we
- 28:15Speaker 3: let him go?
- 28:16Speaker 2: And they how many? How many times they draft his replacement?
- 28:19Speaker 3: I mean, who is the bum from Tennessee they drafted
- 28:23Speaker 3: a couple of years ago, Derek Barnett.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Derek Barnett, he's down in he's down, he's down playing
- 28:27Speaker 1: with the Texans Now.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Yeah, good riddance.
- 28:31Speaker 3: Like just I'm just saying like they drafted his replacement
- 28:34Speaker 3: multiple times and he just outlasted him.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Yep, And uh, super good dude. I hope.
- 28:40Speaker 3: I mean, I saw Vig Fangio today was asked like,
- 28:42Speaker 3: do you think he's done.
- 28:43Speaker 2: He's like, I don't think he's done. I think he
- 28:45Speaker 2: can come back.
- 28:45Speaker 3: But if he doesn't, my god, like had the biggest
- 28:49Speaker 3: play in the Super Bowl with the one victory the
- 28:52Speaker 3: Eagles have in the Super Bowl, and uh it as
- 28:56Speaker 3: far as the rest of the season goes. Having said
- 28:59Speaker 3: all love the guy, I don't think it's a crippling
- 29:04Speaker 3: injury for the for the defense.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Yes, me too, I don't. I don't either too. It's
- 29:08Speaker 1: a it's a good segue because look, Bryce Huff has stunk.
- 29:12Speaker 1: He's on ir It's like, okay, they're not. They haven't
- 29:16Speaker 1: been missing anything with him. This defense is still number
- 29:18Speaker 1: one in the league. I mean, I think the pass
- 29:21Speaker 1: rush is gonna be okay. Look, at the end of
- 29:23Speaker 1: the day, Jalen Carter makes everyone on the defense look better.
- 29:28Speaker 1: We are seeing that week after week after week, even
- 29:31Speaker 1: as he is double teamed I think on like over
- 29:34Speaker 1: sixty five percent of plays. But it has made the
- 29:39Speaker 1: secondary better. He has made the secondary better. And even
- 29:42Speaker 1: though Jordan Davis has been a big disappointment in terms
- 29:47Speaker 1: of the pass rush at this point has it hasn't
- 29:50Speaker 1: been terrible at all with regard to run stoppage. But
- 29:53Speaker 1: even though Jordan Davis not great with regard to getting
- 29:57Speaker 1: sacks and getting into the backfield, Jalen Carter like handling that.
- 30:01Speaker 1: He's handling all of that and he just makes everybody
- 30:04Speaker 1: else on defense that much better. I mean, God, Cooper
- 30:08Speaker 1: Dejen just taking away Cooper Cup this past week, I mean,
- 30:12Speaker 1: so physical at the line of scrimmage. It allows him
- 30:14Speaker 1: to be in tight coverage. I love the nickel cornerback
- 30:19Speaker 1: role for Cooper Dejen, and it's allowing the Eagles to
- 30:23Speaker 1: stay in their base formation in defense as well. He's
- 30:25Speaker 1: becoming that much important to this defense already. NA Kobe
- 30:29Speaker 1: Dean has been lights out the past few weeks as well.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Thank God. You know, we were saying he was People
- 30:34Speaker 1: are saying he was a bum these past few years
- 30:37Speaker 1: because he was injured, But look at the way he's
- 30:39Speaker 1: been able to perform, like going downhill this past week
- 30:43Speaker 1: against the Rams definitely probably one of the best games
- 30:46Speaker 1: of his career, and he's continuing to get better. So
- 30:49Speaker 1: I think from an overall defensive standpoint, the Eagles are
- 30:53Speaker 1: gonna be fine. I do pass rush standpoint. I don't know.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Maybe Josh Swett continues to get some sacks here and there,
- 31:00Speaker 1: but they haven't been needing to get like six, seven
- 31:04Speaker 1: to eight sacks a game, eric for them to be dominant,
- 31:07Speaker 1: to be the number one defense in the league. And
- 31:09Speaker 1: that's what's so special about this unit right now. I mean,
- 31:12Speaker 1: it's it is so fun to watch, it really is.
- 31:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:18Speaker 3: And part of the reason I brought up Jerome Brown,
- 31:20Speaker 3: besides just being reminded about him recently, is that Jalen
- 31:26Speaker 3: Carter has that feel too. He is he's mean, he's
- 31:31Speaker 3: a bully, he's nasty, he gets in people's faces, he
- 31:35Speaker 3: gets double teams all the time, which allows the people
- 31:38Speaker 3: around him to succeed.
- 31:40Speaker 2: What what why?
- 31:42Speaker 3: I don't think the Brandon Graham injury is a crippling,
- 31:45Speaker 3: uh crippling thing for the for the defense is if
- 31:48Speaker 3: you look at the stats, you go down the line,
- 31:51Speaker 3: it's it's almost like defense by committee. Josh Twat has
- 31:54Speaker 3: seven tackles. The emergence of Milton Williams has kind of
- 31:58Speaker 3: the gate. Jordan Davis's like non assent, hoping maybe someday
- 32:03Speaker 3: Jordan Davis can become kind of a run stuffer. He's
- 32:07Speaker 3: never going to be a sack artist, but just take
- 32:09Speaker 3: up space. You know, we've seen flashes, I think the
- 32:13Speaker 3: emergence of the linebackers, you know, Nolan Smith and Kobe
- 32:17Speaker 3: Dean and obviously the Bond kid. Like, it's just it's
- 32:22Speaker 3: just a really solid overall defense and it helps the
- 32:26Speaker 3: pass rush is going to be fine, just because there
- 32:28Speaker 3: are so many athletes and big, scary athletes on the defense.
- 32:33Speaker 3: The one thing that's the one thing I've noticed about
- 32:37Speaker 3: how he's last draft, he took He took Mitchell first round,
- 32:41Speaker 3: big physical cornerback, took Cooper de Gene, big physical cornerback safety,
- 32:49Speaker 3: and and and and mean you.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Know like that that you talk about Cooper Cup.
- 32:53Speaker 3: Like offense, you can try and go a gap B
- 32:56Speaker 3: gap C gap every single every single time you whatever
- 33:00Speaker 3: app you try to go through, you're going to be
- 33:01Speaker 3: faced with a nasty player from like from a really
- 33:05Speaker 3: good school and they're they're not going to give you
- 33:08Speaker 3: an inch.
- 33:08Speaker 2: Like taken out of the game by a rookie. Yeah,
- 33:11Speaker 2: And Cooper Cup is a was it Super Bowl MVP, right,
- 33:14Speaker 2: and he.
- 33:15Speaker 3: Like basically yeah, and he was taken out of the game,
- 33:18Speaker 3: and and uh Puku Nakua really tough, physical receiver. He
- 33:24Speaker 3: was kind of taken out of the game and that's
- 33:26Speaker 3: because the defense is mean and nasty and that's kind
- 33:29Speaker 3: of the Big Fangio defense style. But this time he
- 33:32Speaker 3: has the athletes to do it. And it all, honestly
- 33:35Speaker 3: all starts with Jalen Carterner.
- 33:36Speaker 2: It does.
- 33:37Speaker 3: He's slowly becoming the best tackle in football, if not
- 33:40Speaker 3: the best defensive He's not the best, but the best tackle,
- 33:44Speaker 3: not just with the stat no, just the sacks, but
- 33:46Speaker 3: like just how everything works with him in the middle.
- 33:51Speaker 3: He just he takes all the shit on and everyone
- 33:54Speaker 3: else can do their job.
- 33:55Speaker 1: Yep, absolutely, absolutely so. Yeah, I think we're on the
- 33:58Speaker 1: same page for sure that the loss of Brandon Graham
- 34:02Speaker 1: really isn't going to affect the pass rush too too
- 34:04Speaker 1: much here moving forward. It's such a solid deal. It's
- 34:07Speaker 1: gonna be a it's gonna be a I have been
- 34:09Speaker 1: waiting for this Eagles Ravens game that's gonna be coming
- 34:12Speaker 1: up this week on Sunday for twenty five. I think
- 34:17Speaker 1: start time. I've been waiting for it for a long time.
- 34:20Speaker 1: You've got two of the best rushers, two great quarterbacks
- 34:23Speaker 1: that are gonna be facing each other two pretty good
- 34:26Speaker 1: defenses as well, But it's gonna be it's gonna be
- 34:29Speaker 1: a as the old j R Set, a flobber knocker yud.
- 34:33Speaker 3: Okay, So my my AFC team is kind of the
- 34:37Speaker 3: Bills now because you know the whole Buffalo thing.
- 34:38Speaker 2: My daughter's going there.
- 34:39Speaker 3: But yeah, the Ravens have long been my favorite AFC team,
- 34:42Speaker 3: and there was always the team I'm like, yeah, they
- 34:45Speaker 3: always reminded me of the Eagles that I grew up
- 34:48Speaker 3: loving in the late eighties.
- 34:49Speaker 2: And Reed ray lewis just just nasty. Yeah.
- 34:53Speaker 3: And and if you don't love Lamar Jackson, if you're
- 34:57Speaker 3: not scared to death of him as an Eagles fan.
- 34:59Speaker 2: I know tell you he is. There a way to
- 35:03Speaker 2: put a spy on him.
- 35:04Speaker 3: It's like a box, like like a like a box
- 35:06Speaker 3: and one like in basketball, like there anybody puts someone
- 35:09Speaker 3: on him the entire but then you got to deal
- 35:11Speaker 3: with that maniac beast behind him and Henry. This might
- 35:15Speaker 3: be the game of the year in my opinion in
- 35:17Speaker 3: terms of like just physicality, right, And that's it's gonna
- 35:21Speaker 3: be a mean, nasty game between two teams that aren't
- 35:24Speaker 3: even in the same conference.
- 35:25Speaker 2: I know it's just because they're.
- 35:27Speaker 3: So big and mean, and they they mirror us really well.
- 35:31Speaker 3: And I think it's just gonna be a dynamite game.
- 35:33Speaker 3: I think I picked originally to lose that game just
- 35:36Speaker 3: because it's in Baltimore. I think that, honestly, it's the
- 35:38Speaker 3: only reason. I don't know, But I think it's going
- 35:40Speaker 3: to be the best game of the year for the Eagles.
- 35:42Speaker 1: I actually think they're going to lose. I think the
- 35:43Speaker 1: Eagles are going to lose it. I do if it
- 35:46Speaker 1: was if the game was at the Lake, I think
- 35:49Speaker 1: maybe a little differently. But man, Lamar Jackson is just
- 35:52Speaker 1: playing at a high level. He is playing at a
- 35:54Speaker 1: high level. So is Derek Derrick Henry. But then again,
- 35:58Speaker 1: Eagles defense number one defense in the league. We're gonna
- 36:00Speaker 1: have to see how this works out here. But as
- 36:04Speaker 1: we're moving along here, I'll tell you he's not doing well.
- 36:07Speaker 1: That's the Philadelphia seventy six ers. They're not doing well here.
- 36:11Speaker 1: And we really wanted to talk about whether or not
- 36:13Speaker 1: is it really tank time for the Sixers since they're
- 36:17Speaker 1: fourteenth in the Eastern Conference, and like you think about
- 36:21Speaker 1: it and you're just like, my god, because what we
- 36:25Speaker 1: know is that the window for contending with Embiid and
- 36:27Speaker 1: Paul George isn't you know, it's it's it's a finite
- 36:31Speaker 1: window here. They're only gonna go are They're only gonna
- 36:35Speaker 1: get so many bites at this at this potential Apple.
- 36:40Speaker 1: It's not looking good right off the bat here. But
- 36:42Speaker 1: my gosh, if and beat the sideline for an extended
- 36:44Speaker 1: period of time, it changes the calculus of what they
- 36:48Speaker 1: should do and what this front office is gonna do.
- 36:51Speaker 1: But Eric, we talked about it this past week when
- 36:53Speaker 1: we when we got together, when I was giving you
- 36:55Speaker 1: the Pig Destroyer album. Sixers first round pick is a
- 36:59Speaker 1: top six per ten. So unless the Sixers stay at
- 37:02Speaker 1: the bottom, that pick is going to go to the
- 37:04Speaker 1: Oklahoma's City Thunder. And I don't know it. This is
- 37:09Speaker 1: a terrible situation that this team is in at this point.
- 37:13Speaker 2: Man, Oh god, I mean that pick goes to the
- 37:17Speaker 2: third best team in the NBA right now.
- 37:19Speaker 3: If it's outside of the top six, that's what a
- 37:22Speaker 3: disaster this year is so far. That's just a that's
- 37:25Speaker 3: just a side note right now. But but it's it's
- 37:27Speaker 3: just it's awful. My brother was at the game tonight
- 37:30Speaker 3: and he texted me afterwards. He said, this, just give
- 37:33Speaker 3: me an idea. We could go over the stats, but
- 37:35Speaker 3: why there's.
- 37:36Speaker 2: Really no reason.
- 37:37Speaker 3: There's the second worst team in the in the conference,
- 37:39Speaker 3: one game above the Washington Wizards, who.
- 37:41Speaker 2: Are incredible, god awful.
- 37:44Speaker 3: But he said, uh yeah, he said, Paul George, Caleb Martin,
- 37:49Speaker 3: and uh Kyle Lowry were on the bench cheering their
- 37:51Speaker 3: teammates one and it was it was very noticeable that
- 37:55Speaker 3: there's no imped He wasn't even there, and it's like,
- 37:59Speaker 3: you're definitely home, it's Thanksgiving. Why are you not in
- 38:03Speaker 3: the bench with your teammates, Like that's just how shitty
- 38:07Speaker 3: it is right now for that team, Like, I can
- 38:12Speaker 3: you tank?
- 38:13Speaker 2: Uh? You could, I'm just not sure.
- 38:17Speaker 3: The only way to tank is that you basically say,
- 38:20Speaker 3: Paul George has a season ending injury, knee injury, and
- 38:24Speaker 3: so does Embiid and you just with you just roll
- 38:28Speaker 3: with McCain and Maxie and you're in a bunch of
- 38:30Speaker 3: games and they're a lot of fun. Like tonight they
- 38:32Speaker 3: went to overtime against the Rockets, but they lost ultimately,
- 38:37Speaker 3: Like that was really the only route to tank because
- 38:40Speaker 3: if Paul George comes back, the combo of George and
- 38:44Speaker 3: Maxie and McCain and what they have left Caleb Martin,
- 38:48Speaker 3: that's probably enough to win enough games where you're just
- 38:50Speaker 3: you're not going to be in.
- 38:51Speaker 2: The top six. So like there's only one way out there.
- 38:55Speaker 3: I mean, they put they pay themselves in a corner
- 38:57Speaker 3: like there's only one way out to do it, and
- 38:59Speaker 3: that's to tell your two most expensive players you're not
- 39:02Speaker 3: playing this year, which it's freaking November.
- 39:05Speaker 1: I don't think you can do that because, like, the
- 39:08Speaker 1: last thing a crumbling rock locker room needs is I
- 39:12Speaker 1: think at this particular point, as we're at the end
- 39:15Speaker 1: of November heading into December, I think the last thing
- 39:17Speaker 1: this locker room needs is a deliberate tanking mandate because look,
- 39:23Speaker 1: Cooper Flag on this Sixers team. I think that's a
- 39:26Speaker 1: pretty exciting thought. But you know, we saw the Hawks
- 39:29Speaker 1: get the number one pick with the tenth best odds
- 39:32Speaker 1: this past summer, and if the Sixers find themselves in
- 39:36Speaker 1: that position, it kind of needs to happen just organically.
- 39:41Speaker 1: It's not you know what I mean.
- 39:43Speaker 3: I just think that the best route to tanking and
- 39:46Speaker 3: not destroy the locker room is just to be like, yeah,
- 39:50Speaker 3: Paul George just doesn't have he's just too many injuries
- 39:53Speaker 3: this year. We're gonna sit him out and he's not ready.
- 39:56Speaker 3: It's gonna give me a year to rest or whatever.
- 39:58Speaker 3: Like I know it sounds ridiculous, but like I think
- 40:01Speaker 3: the city would actually be okay with it because Maxie
- 40:04Speaker 3: and McCain are so much fun, like so high energy
- 40:07Speaker 3: and they're super positive. And I don't think that locker
- 40:09Speaker 3: room would go south because those two just wouldn't allow it.
- 40:13Speaker 3: And this I think the city would understand enough, like
- 40:15Speaker 3: I would as a fanly like this is actually fun
- 40:17Speaker 3: to watch. They're gonna lose every game, but at least
- 40:21Speaker 3: at least I can see like a silver lining kind
- 40:23Speaker 3: of whereas like when they were taking in the past,
- 40:25Speaker 3: it was like Michael Carr Williams sucks and this.
- 40:29Speaker 2: Is what we like. This is it?
- 40:30Speaker 3: Like I don't know what the hell is going to
- 40:32Speaker 3: happen next, but at least with this one, because what's
- 40:37Speaker 3: the alternative? Okay, See, they fire.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Nick Nurse, which is just theater at that point.
- 40:42Speaker 3: Right, because who the hell a you're going to bring in?
- 40:45Speaker 3: Who are the available coaches that can make this work.
- 40:47Speaker 3: There are none, none exists, right, you can file, you
- 40:50Speaker 3: can fire del Maury.
- 40:52Speaker 2: Great, what does that prove? Right?
- 40:54Speaker 3: Like if every any The only option that's actually positive
- 40:59Speaker 3: besides p G and MB coming back and actually playing
- 41:01Speaker 3: really well and the Sixers are playing well, is having
- 41:05Speaker 3: those two just out and just having these two super
- 41:09Speaker 3: happy almost like leper.
- 41:10Speaker 2: Konni kind of a gu heights.
- 41:11Speaker 3: Yeah, like like you know, being super happy and positive
- 41:15Speaker 3: and like in wink wink, we get what we're doing here.
- 41:18Speaker 3: But like you know, at least you don't hate the team.
- 41:21Speaker 2: Right.
- 41:22Speaker 1: Let me throw this out to you, okay, Because on
- 41:24Speaker 1: the surf, on the surface, I think the Sixers have
- 41:29Speaker 1: time to turn this around if they if there is
- 41:33Speaker 1: that availability to turn it around, availability with health when
- 41:37Speaker 1: it comes to PG and when it comes to EMBIID
- 41:40Speaker 1: because the Eastern Conference is especially bad this season. The
- 41:44Speaker 1: Sixers are like three and a half games out of
- 41:46Speaker 1: the number ten seed and six and a half games
- 41:48Speaker 1: out of the fourth seed at this point it's November.
- 41:52Speaker 1: You know, I think they can make up four games
- 41:55Speaker 1: on the Detroit Pistons and even seven games on the
- 41:58Speaker 1: New York Knicks at this point, I think there is
- 42:00Speaker 1: time to do that. That said, you know, all the
- 42:04Speaker 1: signs are just pointing in the wrong direction here, you know.
- 42:07Speaker 1: But again, on the surface, I do think they have
- 42:11Speaker 1: time to turn it around if health somehow is ticking
- 42:15Speaker 1: in their direction here, and maybe whatever is going on
- 42:20Speaker 1: with EMBIID here, you know, it gets itself straightened out,
- 42:24Speaker 1: because I think there's more than just health with regard
- 42:26Speaker 1: to EMBIID here at this point. I don't know why.
- 42:28Speaker 1: There's something that's making me think that there's something else
- 42:31Speaker 1: going on behind the scenes. I don't know anything. It's
- 42:34Speaker 1: just a vibe, but part of me thinks they may
- 42:36Speaker 1: have time to turn us around.
- 42:39Speaker 2: Well within b.
- 42:39Speaker 3: It's a it's a career long allowance of him just
- 42:44Speaker 3: not being a professional. They've created this culture that he
- 42:48Speaker 3: doesn't have to be held accountable whatsoever. Yeah, and he's
- 42:51Speaker 3: so fucking good that he can do that, show up
- 42:55Speaker 3: late to games, show up late to practices, and still
- 42:58Speaker 3: win an MVP award, you know, And that's what's so
- 43:02Speaker 3: frustrating about him. That's a whole nother show all together.
- 43:05Speaker 3: But the only problem with like, I could see it too,
- 43:10Speaker 3: if all of a sudden, like three weeks now, they're
- 43:12Speaker 3: all healthy and all of a sudden, they're kicking ass.
- 43:14Speaker 3: I still don't know what it looks like on the
- 43:17Speaker 3: court together. I've seen it like twice, and it looks horrible.
- 43:20Speaker 1: That's all we've seen.
- 43:21Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's really it's not. There's no spacing and
- 43:25Speaker 3: beat us know where the hell to go on the court.
- 43:27Speaker 3: I think we talked about the one game he had
- 43:29Speaker 3: and like, get down on the block, for god's sake.
- 43:34Speaker 3: We're not we're not running a high school motion offense.
- 43:37Speaker 2: Dude, you're sixty like whatever.
- 43:41Speaker 3: But having said that, like they're the whole they've dug
- 43:46Speaker 3: so far, is getting like it's starting to collect water. Yeah,
- 43:51Speaker 3: only you can only dig. You have fourteen losses already
- 43:54Speaker 3: and we're almost in December. So if this keeps going
- 43:57Speaker 3: on for another three weeks, you might be you might
- 44:00Speaker 3: be clawing and fighting and and and playing in a
- 44:04Speaker 3: certain way. We might get injured again just to get
- 44:06Speaker 3: the ten seed right right, and then you you stumble
- 44:10Speaker 3: into the playoffs tired as hell, not healthy, and you
- 44:15Speaker 3: you you, you get in and then you play with
- 44:17Speaker 3: Cleveland or Boston.
- 44:18Speaker 2: The first round. Who's just gonna wipe the floor with us.
- 44:21Speaker 3: Right, that's what like, if it has if it's gonna happen,
- 44:24Speaker 3: it has to happen really really soon. And I can't
- 44:26Speaker 3: see those two coming back and making that work. So
- 44:29Speaker 3: I to me, it's like a lost season. It's it's
- 44:32Speaker 3: so weird to say in November, but like you have
- 44:34Speaker 3: like a two week window here. If it doesn't happen,
- 44:37Speaker 3: don't try and make it happen. It's so bizarre.
- 44:40Speaker 1: It's so bizarre how it just happened. Like my god,
- 44:42Speaker 1: after two weeks of the season, we were like, oh
- 44:44Speaker 1: my god. We're like, oh my god, is this done
- 44:47Speaker 1: after two weeks?
- 44:49Speaker 2: Well, and to me, it's like, okay.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Two weeks, two weeks, sorry, two weeks, like.
- 44:54Speaker 2: Put the effort in sure.
- 44:56Speaker 3: It reminds it totally reminds me of I just watched, uh,
- 45:00Speaker 3: oddly enough, the second half of Saving Private Ryan, not
- 45:03Speaker 3: the amazing first half.
- 45:04Speaker 2: I watched the second half.
- 45:05Speaker 3: Yeah, and when they go into that town and they
- 45:08Speaker 3: see the bridge and the tank starts to come over, Yeah,
- 45:10Speaker 3: and you see Tom Hanks his face is like shit, yeah,
- 45:15Speaker 3: we shot like they they're they're they're like two weeks
- 45:20Speaker 3: from that where it's like we're all in this together,
- 45:23Speaker 3: but we're it's kind of done like like and if
- 45:27Speaker 3: we even we do get through it and half of
- 45:29Speaker 3: us die. We enter the playoffs like just sore as
- 45:33Speaker 3: hell and just on the on the brink of injury
- 45:36Speaker 3: at all times because we're an older team and it's
- 45:39Speaker 3: like it's it has to happen really soon. And the
- 45:42Speaker 3: alternative is a lot of bad articles and firings that
- 45:47Speaker 3: don't help the team, and the locker room gets even
- 45:50Speaker 3: more toxic, and that's where they're at now, Like that's
- 45:54Speaker 3: just it's such an ugly the fact that like the
- 45:57Speaker 3: only way out is that in two weeks you're super
- 46:00Speaker 3: starts to get healthy and you start to win games,
- 46:01Speaker 3: you maybe get into like the sixth seed.
- 46:03Speaker 2: Yeah, that means your season is a shit show.
- 46:05Speaker 1: Yeah. So yes, we're gonna talk more Sixers in the future. Specifically,
- 46:11Speaker 1: we want to get into Jared McCain a little bit
- 46:13Speaker 1: more and what we have seen from him. So not
- 46:16Speaker 1: gonna do that on this show because I'm gonna let
- 46:19Speaker 1: Eric go here and we're gonna be getting into some
- 46:20Speaker 1: Flyers talk. So buddy, do you have anything else here
- 46:24Speaker 1: before let you go? Before I let you get ready
- 46:26Speaker 1: for the Thanksgiving festivities.
- 46:30Speaker 2: I'm gonna go prepare to eat all day tomorrow. Nice. Yeah,
- 46:34Speaker 2: it almost is Thanksgiving. It's fifteen minutes away.
- 46:36Speaker 1: That is actually, jeez, gonna be up early tomorrow cooking.
- 46:39Speaker 1: I do all the cooking in the house here, so
- 46:41Speaker 1: I've I've got everything timed out. I'll be waking up
- 46:44Speaker 1: seven o'clock in the morning tomorrow just to start and
- 46:47Speaker 1: start and everything.
- 46:50Speaker 3: Actually, the biggest thing tomorrow besides the food is the
- 46:54Speaker 3: Westminster Dog Show. Oh yeah, my favorite Thanksgiving things. I
- 46:58Speaker 3: always cheer for the boxer because I had I've had
- 47:00Speaker 3: two boxes in my life.
- 47:01Speaker 2: Yeah. You never pull it off, man, It's just they're
- 47:04Speaker 2: good looking dogs.
- 47:05Speaker 1: They are.
- 47:06Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, my favorite thing too.
- 47:10Speaker 3: Like my son and I always like you never see
- 47:12Speaker 3: dogs with an old billburb bit from an old comedy
- 47:15Speaker 3: where he's like, you know what I saw the other
- 47:17Speaker 3: day was crazy balls on a dog because you never.
- 47:20Speaker 2: See it like in real life. Yes, in that thing.
- 47:25Speaker 3: Those those things are just swaying back and forth, like
- 47:29Speaker 3: going to breed them down the road.
- 47:30Speaker 2: Like.
- 47:32Speaker 3: One of my favorite aspects of the dog show is
- 47:34Speaker 3: just all they all have nuts.
- 47:38Speaker 1: Check out the nuts at the Westminster Dog Show.
- 47:40Speaker 3: Folks, I always want the one announcement the guy from
- 47:44Speaker 3: uh he played Peterman on SEINFELDT. Yes, I always want
- 47:47Speaker 3: him to like look at those things jingling.
- 47:50Speaker 2: Like.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Look at the set on that one just.
- 47:54Speaker 2: One time, like whoa those things are hanging to the ground.
- 47:58Speaker 1: All right, buddy, I'll let you go. We're gonna take
- 48:01Speaker 1: a break here and when we get back, folks, we're
- 48:03Speaker 1: gonna get into some Flyers talk. Stick with us, all right,
- 48:08Speaker 1: we are back. Let's get into this Philadelphia Flyers team,
- 48:11Speaker 1: the rebuild. We're gonna be talking about some players and
- 48:14Speaker 1: some storylines that we're following. It's what we're throwing down
- 48:17Speaker 1: on the table and now on the table. Joining us
- 48:23Speaker 1: this week to dive into this Philadelphia Flyers team and
- 48:26Speaker 1: how this season is going. I'm gonna talk about the
- 48:28Speaker 1: rebuild as well. From Brotherlypuck dot Com. You can find
- 48:33Speaker 1: them on the Twitter Slash acts at dan thefly Era fan.
- 48:36Speaker 1: We've got the one and only Daniel Lash How you doing,
- 48:39Speaker 1: dan Ah Good, good to be back. It's great to
- 48:41Speaker 1: have you back on the show, buddy, because you know,
- 48:43Speaker 1: it's been a really interesting Flyer season so far. In
- 48:47Speaker 1: a lot of different ways. We got a lot of
- 48:48Speaker 1: great storylines that we're gonna get into during our discussion here.
- 48:52Speaker 1: I guess to start us off here, this season, it
- 48:55Speaker 1: really has been a roller coaster in a lot of ways.
- 48:58Speaker 1: And yeah, whether it's an offense, defense, goaltending, it's been
- 49:02Speaker 1: an interesting season to say the least. So I guess
- 49:04Speaker 1: as we're in the midst of the rebuild. And by
- 49:07Speaker 1: the way, I love on Brotherlypuck dot Com, how you've
- 49:11Speaker 1: essentially said, like the rebuild's like, there's it really a rebuild.
- 49:13Speaker 1: They really haven't done that much, you know, over the
- 49:15Speaker 1: course of this past year, a lot of this say
- 49:17Speaker 1: I love how you you throw it out there like that.
- 49:19Speaker 1: But in terms of this discussion, uh, in the midst
- 49:23Speaker 1: of this rebuild, where are you at right now, like,
- 49:26Speaker 1: right at this moment in terms of how it's actually proceeding,
- 49:29Speaker 1: how it's progressing. I guess more from a macro standpoint
- 49:32Speaker 1: before we get into some more detailed storylines, what are
- 49:35Speaker 1: your thoughts here?
- 49:37Speaker 4: It's hit and miss all things considered. Yeah, you have
- 49:40Speaker 4: some of these guys like Mitch Cobb has now shown
- 49:42Speaker 4: up it looks great, and mil Andre has made the
- 49:44Speaker 4: jump it looks fantastic. Yes, Helga Groans has been great
- 49:47Speaker 4: in his short term because you know when you play
- 49:48Speaker 4: your prospects, good things happen. Yes, but you know they're
- 49:52Speaker 4: committing to so many of these guys long term, and
- 49:54Speaker 4: it's questionable whether or not they pan out now that
- 49:57Speaker 4: they're getting up their in age. You know, Connecting's a
- 49:59Speaker 4: great player, but he's twenty eight. Yeah, sign on an eight
- 50:01Speaker 4: year contract, like and this has been a consistent pattern,
- 50:04Speaker 4: guys like Nick Seeler locking him up for four years.
- 50:07Speaker 2: Like.
- 50:07Speaker 4: This is the stuff that kind of goes against the
- 50:09Speaker 4: fundamentals of rebuilding. Not to say they can't work around
- 50:12Speaker 4: to this kind of stuff, but it makes everything a
- 50:14Speaker 4: lot harder when you've got term and money committed to
- 50:16Speaker 4: so much with this roster, right, So I do like
- 50:18Speaker 4: the rebuild. I think you're starting to see certain things
- 50:21Speaker 4: blossom this year. And now it comes to the deadline
- 50:23Speaker 4: in the off season when it falls, the responsibility falls
- 50:27Speaker 4: on brier shoulders to then address this stuff. You kind
- 50:29Speaker 4: of got the free passs in twenty twenty four when
- 50:31Speaker 4: you didn't do a whole lot during the summer. Now
- 50:33Speaker 4: you need to address whatever they find at the deadline
- 50:36Speaker 4: in the off season, whether it be Ferraby or Frost
- 50:38Speaker 4: or Drysdale, whatever the case may be, they need to
- 50:40Speaker 4: address it now, and the ball's in their court to
- 50:41Speaker 4: figure it out.
- 50:42Speaker 1: Absolutely, ball's definitely in their court to figure it out.
- 50:45Speaker 1: But I wanted to start getting into some other other
- 50:47Speaker 1: storylines with you here, Dan, basically, how the lines have
- 50:51Speaker 1: been looking as of late, and even as it pertains
- 50:54Speaker 1: to you know, what you were just talking about in
- 50:56Speaker 1: terms of getting certain things figured out for the future.
- 50:59Speaker 1: I mean, some of the lines they do seem close
- 51:02Speaker 1: to being optimized at this point Forrester or Kate's and
- 51:05Speaker 1: Brink have some real potential, even though they looked a
- 51:07Speaker 1: little shaky here and there as of late. You know,
- 51:10Speaker 1: maybe keep Coots and connect me together. Seems logical to
- 51:14Speaker 1: keep Frost and Mitch Cobb together. I'm wondering what are
- 51:17Speaker 1: your thoughts on where the lines are at right now?
- 51:21Speaker 1: Do you think John Tortorella is gonna continue to tinker
- 51:24Speaker 1: around with these lines here or there? Yeah, what are
- 51:26Speaker 1: your thoughts with regard to what we've been seeing really
- 51:28Speaker 1: from these lines? What you like, what you dislike, anything
- 51:30Speaker 1: you want to dive.
- 51:31Speaker 4: Into things have calmed down a lot from the first
- 51:34Speaker 4: five games of the season. It's something like what twenty
- 51:36Speaker 4: different line combas some ungodly number, right, So they've calmed
- 51:40Speaker 4: down a little bit. But I mean, we're living in
- 51:42Speaker 4: John Torderella land. You know, tinkering is what he does best. Yes,
- 51:45Speaker 4: so they're you gonna find these pairs. You know, everything's
- 51:48Speaker 4: gonna stay more or less the same. But the abundance
- 51:50Speaker 4: of wingers, the lack of center depth, there's a lot
- 51:52Speaker 4: of interchangeability happening here, and you know, they find the group.
- 51:55Speaker 4: The third line of Kate's Forester and Brink has been fine.
- 51:58Speaker 4: There are some defensive faults there, which not surprising giving
- 52:01Speaker 4: the young status of brinkan Forrester.
- 52:03Speaker 1: But overall, you know, you kind of know what you're.
- 52:05Speaker 4: Gonna get with a lot of these guys right now.
- 52:06Speaker 4: It's a matter of do you play mitchkov on the
- 52:08Speaker 4: top line and left wing and the second line and
- 52:09Speaker 4: the right wing. You know, the little bit of that.
- 52:11Speaker 4: But on the whole, things have calmed down a lot
- 52:13Speaker 4: from where they were beating the season, when it just
- 52:15Speaker 4: feels like they were just blindly pulling names out of
- 52:18Speaker 4: a hat every single night. And trying something different, which.
- 52:19Speaker 1: Is really bizarre Dan, because of like I mentioned at
- 52:22Speaker 1: the top of the discussion, you know, how you kind
- 52:25Speaker 1: of how you frame this quo rebuild on brotherlypuck dot Com.
- 52:31Speaker 1: The fact that they really haven't done that much in
- 52:33Speaker 1: terms of roster reconstruction, a lot of the same guys
- 52:36Speaker 1: coming back this year, and the tinkering still kind of
- 52:39Speaker 1: baffles me at times. It's like, all right, a lot
- 52:41Speaker 1: of these guys have really been on this team now
- 52:42Speaker 1: for quite some time, and John Torrello, You've been here
- 52:44Speaker 1: for quite some time too. What the heck is going
- 52:46Speaker 1: on here? That's kind of baffling to me from time
- 52:48Speaker 1: to time.
- 52:50Speaker 4: I think it's a desperation move, yes, set, especially in
- 52:53Speaker 4: the beginning of the season when they were like two
- 52:55Speaker 4: and five or whatever. Yeah, you know, because so much
- 52:58Speaker 4: of this roster is the same. We've seen it all before,
- 53:01Speaker 4: right right. Here's not like there's new blood you could
- 53:03Speaker 4: interject to try and figure out who's doing what now.
- 53:05Speaker 4: You're kind of desperately trying to shift things and hoping
- 53:08Speaker 4: that anybody can spark momentum. Yes, because there's not a
- 53:11Speaker 4: lot of new infusion into the team, and I think
- 53:12Speaker 4: that's kind of one of the side effects of playing
- 53:15Speaker 4: as quietly as they did during the new off season,
- 53:17Speaker 4: as they left themselves very little chance when things start
- 53:19Speaker 4: going wrong like we saw at the beginning of the year,
- 53:21Speaker 4: to kind of figure this out and try something new.
- 53:23Speaker 4: So yeah, I think the line shuffering was desperation move
- 53:26Speaker 4: versus then you know, just Tortorella tinkering with stuff. But
- 53:28Speaker 4: he you know, now that they've come together, they're more
- 53:30Speaker 4: of a five hundred team now they're what five oho
- 53:33Speaker 4: and two whatever was over last little while, or they're
- 53:35Speaker 4: playing better, so things have calmed down. So as long
- 53:37Speaker 4: as they can keep this kind of middling pace going
- 53:39Speaker 4: on through the rest of the season, I think things
- 53:41Speaker 4: should calm down overall a lot when it comes to
- 53:43Speaker 4: the lines.
- 53:43Speaker 2: But really it really is.
- 53:44Speaker 4: Just about who's hot and who's not on it, even
- 53:47Speaker 4: nights exactly.
- 53:48Speaker 1: It's interesting hockey. That's what we're seeing at the end
- 53:50Speaker 1: of the day. Excuse me for my voice here, folks.
- 53:52Speaker 1: Interesting hockey. So I wanted to get into one particular player,
- 53:57Speaker 1: and I think his journey of the past couple of
- 53:58Speaker 1: years has been very, very interesting. About two years ago,
- 54:02Speaker 1: John Tortorella was just about out on Travis Sandheim, and
- 54:07Speaker 1: now we look at what is happening with Sandheim. He's
- 54:10Speaker 1: playing some of the best hockey of his career and
- 54:13Speaker 1: John Towrderella is championing him in various ways. I'm wondering, Dan,
- 54:19Speaker 1: how did this all manifest itself? Where Sandheim is reaching
- 54:24Speaker 1: another level of hockey this year, what it means for
- 54:27Speaker 1: this team and what it could potentially mean for the future.
- 54:29Speaker 1: What are your thoughts here.
- 54:31Speaker 4: You know, historically I've never been the biggest fan of
- 54:34Speaker 4: Travis Sanheim. You know, the early career stuff was just
- 54:37Speaker 4: just hard to get through somebody it was. Yeah, But
- 54:40Speaker 4: you know, the storyline with him is there's over the
- 54:43Speaker 4: last two or three years, there's a couple months stretch
- 54:46Speaker 4: Roholl play just out of his mind, good hockey, and
- 54:48Speaker 4: then he eventually comes crashing back to earth. So it's
- 54:50Speaker 4: a matter of can he keep this level of thirty
- 54:53Speaker 4: minutes a night at a high level up through the
- 54:56Speaker 4: entirety of the season. And you know, Bradshaw is a
- 54:59Speaker 4: wizard when it comes to overworking the defense. He just
- 55:02Speaker 4: building really good things back there. Pretty much everyone has
- 55:05Speaker 4: taken steps forward under his watch. Yeah, so maybe this
- 55:08Speaker 4: is just the culmination of a few years of highs
- 55:10Speaker 4: and lows manifesting into now a consistent high when he's
- 55:14Speaker 4: that guy. So you know, the storyline is Kenny keep
- 55:17Speaker 4: his pace up through the rest of the season. I mean,
- 55:18Speaker 4: playing this level of minutes is gonna tire anybody out right.
- 55:22Speaker 2: March and Aber.
- 55:22Speaker 4: Rolls around, so we shall see. That's the storyline from
- 55:25Speaker 4: here on out. But yeah, he's he's very impressive this year.
- 55:28Speaker 4: A lot of good things out of Sandheim. And this
- 55:30Speaker 4: is not a guy I thought I would ever say that.
- 55:31Speaker 4: About right years ago, I thought I thought he was done.
- 55:34Speaker 1: Basically about two years ago, I really did that they
- 55:36Speaker 1: were going to be moving on from him, trying to
- 55:38Speaker 1: figure out, you know, where he was going to go
- 55:40Speaker 1: in the future. And now we're seeing this, and it
- 55:42Speaker 1: leads me to believe, you know, not just with Sanheim,
- 55:45Speaker 1: but it leads me to believe with other talent on
- 55:47Speaker 1: this team Dan that whether it's the coaching staff or
- 55:51Speaker 1: whether it's the situational type of stuff that's going on
- 55:54Speaker 1: behind the scenes even on the ice, if somebody's going
- 55:57Speaker 1: to pull more out from these guys. And I think
- 56:00Speaker 1: that's kind of an underrated storyline of this year as well. Again,
- 56:05Speaker 1: not in a million years that I think Travis Sandheim
- 56:07Speaker 1: would be playing to this level two years ago. I
- 56:10Speaker 1: mean again, I thought he was going to be out
- 56:12Speaker 1: of here. I really did. And somebody is getting something
- 56:15Speaker 1: out of out of him and even other players as well.
- 56:19Speaker 1: It seems like there is like, I don't know, you
- 56:21Speaker 1: want to call it the Flyers. You know, the Force
- 56:24Speaker 1: is penetrating the Wells Fargo Center or the practice facility,
- 56:28Speaker 1: and the Force has been doing some good things with
- 56:30Speaker 1: some of these players. It's just interesting how with some
- 56:33Speaker 1: of the talent on this team, I don't think we've
- 56:35Speaker 1: seen it all from them at this point now.
- 56:38Speaker 4: And that's I mean, that's a consistent storyline for everybody.
- 56:41Speaker 4: You know on on you know, my website and the podcast,
- 56:44Speaker 4: we use the term a lot of Robbins but no Batman. Yes, right,
- 56:47Speaker 4: you got a lot of good complimentary pieces, but not
- 56:50Speaker 4: a whole lot that ties it all together right, right,
- 56:52Speaker 4: And this is especially at forward when you got a
- 56:54Speaker 4: bunch of forty to fifty point guys, if you had
- 56:56Speaker 4: two or three elite players and you know, the rising
- 56:59Speaker 4: tide ships, right, it's a saying on this one, and
- 57:02Speaker 4: I think Standheim could be that force back there and
- 57:04Speaker 4: having him playing well, having York coming back, you know,
- 57:06Speaker 4: Andre playing well, like things are looking good on the defense,
- 57:09Speaker 4: and again that was a position of the first few
- 57:10Speaker 4: games of the season of weakness, and now they've all
- 57:13Speaker 4: kind of come back together. They're all buying into whatever
- 57:15Speaker 4: Tortorella and Shaw are selling them and it's working wonders
- 57:18Speaker 4: for everybody.
- 57:19Speaker 1: Absolutely. It really is why you talk about elite talent
- 57:22Speaker 1: or potential elite talent on this team. And it's a
- 57:25Speaker 1: great segue into getting into some Matve Mitchkoff talk here. Boy,
- 57:31Speaker 1: he's been great to watch. I mean, we all know it.
- 57:33Speaker 1: Everybody's talking about it. It's so great to see him
- 57:36Speaker 1: on the ice. He's really awesome in so many ways.
- 57:39Speaker 1: I mean, aside from the sheer fact that he is
- 57:42Speaker 1: fun to watch. Dan and it's not perfect by the
- 57:45Speaker 1: stretch of the imagination, but how would you best describe
- 57:49Speaker 1: Metve Mitchkoff at this point in his NHL career, his
- 57:52Speaker 1: very early NHL career, and how he's really continuing to
- 57:56Speaker 1: grow as a player. Seems like week after week, you know,
- 57:59Speaker 1: he continues to see some good stuff again, not perfect.
- 58:02Speaker 1: How do you describe where he's at right now in
- 58:04Speaker 1: his NHL career.
- 58:05Speaker 4: He's electric. Yes, I think that's the best describing words. Yes,
- 58:10Speaker 4: you know, twenty games in, got seventeen points. You know,
- 58:13Speaker 4: the overtime hero multiple times already. Just you know, we
- 58:17Speaker 4: have not seen something like this since the heyday clunch room,
- 58:20Speaker 4: right right, you know, to this level of scoring ability
- 58:22Speaker 4: and this talent and you know connecting, he's having a
- 58:24Speaker 4: phenomenal season. Mitchkov is overshadowing me in a lot of ROAs. Yes, yes,
- 58:28Speaker 4: you know it's not perfect, there's a lot to clean up,
- 58:31Speaker 4: but when he's around the net, when he's doing his thing,
- 58:33Speaker 4: he's unmatched at this level. And this is the kind
- 58:36Speaker 4: of thing where when he's making the jump. So many
- 58:39Speaker 4: times over the last ten years have we been burned
- 58:41Speaker 4: by hyping up prospects and them not living up to expectations.
- 58:44Speaker 4: So it's kind of like Mitchikov is all this hype
- 58:46Speaker 4: and the next greatest player in the world coming over,
- 58:48Speaker 4: and it's like, please be good, please be exactly good,
- 58:51Speaker 4: And he's actually good. So at nineteen years old, this
- 58:54Speaker 4: is a phenomenal foundation to build off of. And you
- 58:57Speaker 4: know what he's gonna like in two or three years,
- 58:59Speaker 4: you know, we could be looking you know, Hard Trophy finalist.
- 59:01Speaker 1: Absolutely we could. It's really funny you mentioned like whenever
- 59:04Speaker 1: he gets in front of the net, when he ever
- 59:05Speaker 1: he gets in front of the net and I'm watching Dan,
- 59:07Speaker 1: I swear, I go like, I'm like, who you like,
- 59:10Speaker 1: what's gonna happen here? You know, it's it's very exciting.
- 59:14Speaker 1: It is electric, like you said. And folks, again, we're
- 59:17Speaker 1: talking to Dan esh from Brotherlypuck dot com. Check out
- 59:22Speaker 1: all the things that he is writing about covering over there.
- 59:25Speaker 1: And how how often are you uploading the podcast at
- 59:28Speaker 1: this point?
- 59:28Speaker 2: Dan? Try to do three or four episodes a week. Yeah.
- 59:35Speaker 1: People can find on Apple podcasts, people can find it
- 59:37Speaker 1: on all podcasting platforms. Correct.
- 59:40Speaker 4: Yeah, we're out out everywhere.
- 59:41Speaker 1: Nice, all right, very good, very good at Dan the Flyer,
- 59:45Speaker 1: a fan on Twitter slash x. I've been I've been
- 59:48Speaker 1: over a blue sky and I've actually been enjoying it
- 59:50Speaker 1: a bit. To be honest with you.
- 59:52Speaker 4: I have not made the jump yet, but I've it's
- 59:54Speaker 4: not considering it more and more every day.
- 59:56Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. Yeah, it's not bad. It's not terrible by
- 59:58Speaker 1: any stretch. But all right, let's get back to some
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: Flyer talk here. This hot stove season here is heating
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: up earlier than usual for the Flyers. Here, Dad, I
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: know you've been writing about it Brotherly Puck dot com.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: You know there's some rubors abound that the front office
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: may be looking to make a trade for David jier
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: Check jer Check. That's how you say his name, correct,
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: I'm constantly messing up names. David Jercheck twenty year old
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: defenseman from the Blue Jackets. Again, you wrote about this
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: on Brotherly Puck. What are your thoughts on this potential trade,
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: what it could mean for the Flyers down the road.
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: This is a really fascinating trade. He's a right handed defenseman,
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: twenty years old, former sixth overall pick in twenty twenty two.
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: You know, fifty three games of NHL experience with the
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: Blue Jackets. He's very limited minutes. Then get ships down
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: to the AHL. And there was a situation in the
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: summer when Yar Slavaskarov, the goalie, got traded from Nashville
- 1:00:57Speaker 4: to San Jose, and the Flyers were kind of rumored
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: to that mix, and the theory behind that is even
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: though the Flyers have bodies at the position of goaltender,
- 1:01:05Speaker 4: the uncertainty leads to maybe wanting to have that fallback option. Yeah, right,
- 1:01:11Speaker 4: And I think in a sense this is very similar.
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: You've got Drysdale, You've got Bonk, who's going to make
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: the jump to the professional level next year. Ristall Linen
- 1:01:18Speaker 4: has been fine and there's been trade rooms random on
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: his own right. You kind of got the right side now,
- 1:01:21Speaker 4: and Sandin' isn't playing on the right side. You know
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: that side's nailed down right now. But the uncertainty around
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: Drysdale and whether or not Bank makes a clean jump
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: to the professional level. This is the kind of stuff
- 1:01:33Speaker 4: for you go, you know, picking up your check and
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: you have that ace in the hole just in case.
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: Could be the thing in a year or two from now,
- 1:01:40Speaker 4: could be a franchise saving move that they do today.
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: So you know, I don't know how interested I am.
- 1:01:47Speaker 4: I think they should be more concerned about putting assets
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: into finding multiple good centers to this team right now.
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: I think it's a far bigger need than right handed defenseman.
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: But I definitely understand the theory and why they're in
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: on this one, and if the asking price isn't terrible,
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: you know, it seems like they want to high prospect
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: in return for their own high prospect, which is a
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: fine asking point. But you know, I put up the
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: dealer nodeal piece, which is looking at the Pukpedia's GM
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: mode there where fans proposed trades, and I just searched
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: them to vote on and somebody suggested Drysdale for your check,
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: and you kind of remove your own player in terms
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: of taking the risk on another like if Columbus would
- 1:02:25Speaker 4: do that, hey may be worth a risk, you know,
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: if Drysdale is going to be missing half the season
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: with injury and at least your check can play, it's something, right,
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: you know, It's an interesting risk. And I'm sure a
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: lot of teams are going to be in on this one.
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: So whether or not the Flyers can step up at
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: noon hit the price, who knows. We shall see. But
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: it is a very fascinating trade target for a team
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: that may not be as set at right handed defenseman
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: as they think they are right now.
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: When I initially read this, I was fascinated as well
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: because of Drysdale coming into this season and even in
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: the beginning part of the season. He was one guy
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: on this team that I really wanted to keep my
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: eyes on in terms of how he was gonna rebound
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: from last year. And the injury bug yet again is
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: just and I think it is potentially forcing the hand
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: of the front office to say, what are we gonna
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: do with him at this point? You know, so much potential,
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: I think with him, Oh yeah, but the guy just
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: can't stay on the ice consistently. And it's a problem.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: And I have a feeling this consistency that we're seeing
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: injury after injury, year after year, is gonna remain a problem.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: And I hate saying you may have to cut Drysdale
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: at this point, like cut him loose at this point
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: from the organization or whatever. But like, if that trade
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: that you just were talking about were to happen, I
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: wouldn't be sad about it because I've just been disappointed
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: with Jamie at this point.
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: Yeah, He's skates, great, moves great. You know, I'm sure
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: if he could just stay healthy consistently, Yeah, work with
- 1:03:42Speaker 4: this uh Bradshaw on Twitterilla and kind of learn the
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: system and fit in, there may be something there. But
- 1:03:47Speaker 4: if this is a guy that you're only gonna get
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: forty games out of every year?
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: Yeah, what are you gonna do?
- 1:03:51Speaker 4: You know, he can't he can't assimilate, he can't learn,
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: he can't get better when you're not playing. So you know,
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: I would definitely consider the option if that's all it
- 1:03:59Speaker 4: would take to get something like that. Hey, you know,
- 1:04:01Speaker 4: it's a risk you may just have to take and
- 1:04:03Speaker 4: it could pay off in spades down the line.
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: Absolutely, absolutely, Well, Dan, before I let you go, buddy,
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: I just wanted to, you know, piggyback off the last
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: topic and just wondering overall, are there any potential trades
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: that you'd like to see the Flyers front office make
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: this year? Anything in the back of your mind or
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: even at the forefront of your mind as they're still
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: in the midst of this, you know, quote rebuild here.
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: What are your thoughts?
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: I uh, at this point in time, I'm really not
- 1:04:29Speaker 4: with you know, sons, Matt made, Mitchkoff. I think everyone
- 1:04:31Speaker 4: else needs to be considered. You know, you got to
- 1:04:34Speaker 4: consider what you got here. If you can get assets
- 1:04:37Speaker 4: for law or wrist a line in or sealer tipp it,
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: whatever the case may be, you got to consider your options. Yeah,
- 1:04:44Speaker 4: you know when we talked about the stagnation in the
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: twenty twenty four offseason, you can't do that this summer.
- 1:04:50Speaker 4: You need to consider all your options. You need to
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: take this seriously. You've seen what you can get out
- 1:04:54Speaker 4: of guys like Joel Ferraby and Frost. It's like you
- 1:04:57Speaker 4: just know what they are now. Yeah, you know, at
- 1:04:59Speaker 4: this point you got to consider your options. When it
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: comes to a trade and if they can get something
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: for Faribe or packaging Frost and Farabian a deal or
- 1:05:06Speaker 4: something again, they gotta consider it. You know, it's time
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: to start making some progress and taking some steps forward.
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: And they don't have a lot of money. You know,
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: the free agency pool is rather weak. They don't have
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: a lot of money, so that kind of help isn't
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: gonna happen. You're gonna have to turn to trades and
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: weigh your options and see.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: What you get.
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: It may not be what they want. It may not
- 1:05:21Speaker 4: be you know, the super valuable picks and prospects and
- 1:05:23Speaker 4: all that that they want. But at the end of
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: the day, it's time to start making some progress here
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: and some change to the roster. So there are very
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: few trades that I would, you know, barring in the
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: realm of reality. Yeah, that I would turn my nose
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: up at it.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: All right, Very good again, folks. He's Dan esh from
