- 0:41The f A. Hey, y'all, welcome to today's show. We'll pick
- 1:02up where we left off last time. Remember, if you haven't sue yet,
- 1:07please be sure to sign that petition asking that the bishops excommunicate Joe Biden
- 1:15for his stance on abortion, which is not Catholic. And remember it's not
- 1:19so much to make an example out of him or something like that. Actually
- 1:23had a couple questions on social media about this, you know, really by
- 1:30a very respectful I guess Protestant who was asking honest questions about Catholicism. You
- 1:37know, it was good. I was glad to talk with him, and
- 1:40I you know, explained that it's really the person who receives communion unworthly is
- 1:48committing a mortal sense. So every time Joe Biden receives communion, or Nancy
- 1:53Pelosi or any of these people having professed to support and acting on support for
- 1:59abortion, which is a grave evil, they're committing a mortal sin. Jesus
- 2:02actually said, they've become responsible for his body and blood as if they were
- 2:06a murderer, so they need to be told they can't receive it. It's
- 2:09also a sin for the priest to give it to them knowingly. It's actually
- 2:14a worse sin for the priests to give it to them knowingly. They have
- 2:16that higher responsibility as the shepherds of the church. And the person was I
- 2:23walked him through the Bible on passages that explain excommunication, such as I believes
- 2:30in the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus says to go to someone and he says,
- 2:36if they will not listen to the church, let them be to you
- 2:38as a heathen. Well, heathen is someone outside of the church. They
- 2:42are excommunicated. They cannot receive communion, right or I think it's First Corinthians.
- 2:47Saint Paul says, you know the man that was in a state of
- 2:53grave sin, deliver him unto Satan. Wow, that's that strong statement,
- 2:59right. That means cast him out of the church until he changes his ways,
- 3:04goes to confession, repents, et cetera. He can't receive communion.
- 3:08He has excommunicated himself. Now, an excommunication is an official document by the
- 3:16church stating that. But whenever we're in a state of mortal sin, no
- 3:22matter what it is, it doesn't have to be you know, something public
- 3:24like Joe Biden support for abortion or whatever. It could be you know you've
- 3:30committed a mortal sin, and you know the ten commandments. Check your catechism
- 3:34if you need a list of what they are. But you've excommunicated yourself and
- 3:39you actually have the responsibility to go to confession before you go to Mass and
- 3:45receive the Eucharist. An official ex communication is just the church excommunicating the person.
- 3:52Not well, it's the church saying, yes, indeed, you should
- 3:55not receive communion. But really the person should do it themselves if they have
- 4:01a conscience, which apparently Joe Biden lacks. If he had a conscience,
- 4:08his state of extreme senility has probably clouded it to the point somebody needs to
- 4:13tell him that. And by the way, the man should never have been
- 4:17president of the United States. He's not capable of the job. I'm not
- 4:25going to get into whether he won the election or not. I don't think
- 4:28he did. I think it was stolen. But he's still not capable of
- 4:31the job. Even if he had been legitimately elected, he should have been
- 4:34removed from that office. And everybody knows that. Nobody. I mean,
- 4:40they had him on something the other night when he did that State of the
- 4:43State of the Nation address. Some people who said it was adderall. Some
- 4:47people have said it was, you know, some kind of emphetamine. I
- 4:50don't know, but the man is barely coherent, and he wasn't that coherent
- 4:59in that speech. Each he read a teleprompter, and apparently the man he
- 5:02got off stage started speaking to people, he was babbling like a moron.
- 5:09Several well, at least one Birchet from Tennessee, one of my favorite congressmen,
- 5:14says he had a fairly nice conversation with him. They were, you
- 5:17know, totally opposed to each other, but they both have a fondness for
- 5:21corvettes. And apparently Biden was babbling like a complete, blithering idiot. He
- 5:28claimed that the new electric corvette could go from like zero to sixty in less
- 5:32than a second, I mean, and he was saying all kinds of crazy
- 5:35stuff. And the minute he stopped reading that teleprompter, he was not making
- 5:41a lot of sense. Anyway, let's get into it here, you may
- 5:46or mry from yesterday there was an Anglican questioning the two Catholic priests and radio
- 5:51replies and he, let me see, he had just asked him about the
- 5:59term reformation. So he says he deposits the Roman Church has often changed its
- 6:05constitution, and they answer never. The Catholic Church, subject to the Bishop
- 6:10of Rome has the same constitution. Is that given to her by Christ when
- 6:14he said to Saint Peter, thou art Peter, and upon this rock I
- 6:16should build my church. She has the same foundation and the one and only
- 6:21church in England until the substitution of himself by Henry the Eighth. In other
- 6:28words, all Christians were Catholic in England until Henry the Eighth decided to concleare
- 6:32himself the head of the Church of England. The Anglican Church came into existence
- 6:38by a complete change of constitution which every previous Archbishop of Canterbury for the time
- 6:44of Augustine would have rejected with horror. The person says, the constitution was
- 6:48changed by that very Augustine. The church in England before him was not in
- 6:53communion with Rome. And they said, your statement is erroneous, it's actually
- 6:58historically faults and it's kind of foolish. And in any case, you cannot
- 7:01claim that the present Church of England has any connection with the church which was
- 7:05in England prior to the coming of Saint Augustine. Let's put it this way.
- 7:10There are two sets of bishops in England today. There's the Bishop of
- 7:13the Church of England and the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Church, if you
- 7:15like such a phrase. The Anglican bishops are not subject to the Pope.
- 7:20The Catholic bishops are now in the year fifteen hundred. We need not go
- 7:25back to the pre Augustine Church, though the same thing was true then there
- 7:29was but one set of bishops in England. Which are the two sets of
- 7:31bishops now corresponds with the one set of bishops. Then if we can solve
- 7:38that, then we should be able to find the intruder without dwelling upon probable
- 7:43traditions. According to the sending of missionaries by Pope A that's a tough one,
- 7:47pronounce Eluthrius about the year one seventy a d. It is certain that
- 7:54the very first elements of Christianity came to England from the continent, where all
- 7:58true Christians were subject to the pope. In three fourteen AD, English bishops
- 8:03were present at the Council of Ares in Gaul. This was over two hundred
- 8:09years before Saint Augustine set foot in England. Now every bishop of the Council
- 8:13of Arles. That's what it is. L e. S Arles was in
- 8:18communion with Rome. The council was held under the authority of Pope Sylvester,
- 8:24who sent his legates legates, and who received from the assembly from the assembled
- 8:31bishop this greeting. In the unity of our mother, the Catholic Church,
- 8:35we salute the most glorious Pope with the reverence do No Anglican bishop today would
- 8:41be invited to sit in a council with the bishops of Italy, Spain,
- 8:45France, Africa, Germany and other regions as those early English bishops did at
- 8:50the Council of Arles. Something has gone wrong somewhere. In five ninety six,
- 8:56Pope Gregory sent Saint Augustine to England, giving him authority over all bishops
- 9:01already in England. They must have all been Roman Catholics for the Bishop of
- 9:05Rome to use such words as these. We give you no authority over the
- 9:09bishops of Gaul. But as for the bishops of Britain, we commit them
- 9:13to your care, that the unlearning may be taught, the weak strengthened by
- 9:16persuasion, the perverse corrected by authority. In seven point thirty five, the
- 9:22Venerable Beattie wrote, the pope bears pontifical power over the whole world. Saint
- 9:28Anselm of Canterbury wrote in the eleventh century, it is certain that he who
- 9:31does not obey the Roman pontiff is disobedient to the Apostle Peter, nor is
- 9:37he of the flock given to Peter by God. It's a very good statement.
- 9:41In eleven fifty four, a member of the church in England at that
- 9:45time was elected pope. His name was Nicholas Brakespear. You cannot imagine a
- 9:50member of the Anglican hierarchy today being elected pope. In eleven seventy, Saint
- 9:54Thomas, ar Bishop of Canterbury wrote, who doubts that the Roman Church is
- 9:58the head of all te churches and the source of doctrine. In twelve eight,
- 10:03Stephen lang Langton, Archbishop of Canterbury, wrote, Pope Alexander, possessing
- 10:09the plenitude of power given back, gave back this archbishopric to Thomas independently of
- 10:16the royal assent. In other words, the pope had more power than the
- 10:20king, especially over the church. This was the one set of bishops in
- 10:24England before the Restformation, and the Catholic bishops in England today are their corresponding
- 10:28bishops. Where were the Anglican bishops before the Reformation? They did not exist.
- 10:33Or take this simple reasoning, Saint Thomas Moore was beheaded because he refused
- 10:39to give up the old religion. Then whatever religion he was clinging to was
- 10:43the old religion. But he was clinging to what you would call the Roman
- 10:46Catholic religion, refusing the oath of supremacy which King Henry the Eighth claimed over
- 10:52the new Church of his own creation. If this new Church of England was
- 10:56the same as the old Church of England, Saint Thomas Moore was a fool
- 11:00indeed to lose his life. Yet he was an exceedingly good and wise man.
- 11:07Very true. Saint Thomas Moore is one of my absolute favorite saints.
- 11:13He was the greatest attorney in England. He was also a theologian an adviser
- 11:20to the king before the king decided to found his own church so he could
- 11:26give himself a divorce. And then Saint Thomas Moore was suffered martyrdom. Was
- 11:33beheaded because he would not swear allegiance to the king as being God's representative on
- 11:39earth. The King is the king of the nation. He's not the head
- 11:41of a church. According to legend. I guess his nephew was trying to
- 11:48convince him to just lie and say he swore allegians to the King, but
- 11:52continue to be a Catholic in private, and knowing that, you know,
- 11:58his uncle would been one of the most wealthy and influential men in England,
- 12:01he said, uncle, what are you doing in there in the jail Celle
- 12:05and St Thomas Moore said to him, the question is not what am I
- 12:09doing in here? But what are you doing out there? And that is
- 12:13the question. That is the question we need ask ourselves. You know,
- 12:16over all matters like you know, Joe Biden's supporting abortion, the question is
- 12:24not why should the bishops refuse Joe Biden communion, but why should they allow
- 12:31him? He's an absolute violation of all Catholic doctrine. For two thousand years,
- 12:39the Church has said it is a mortal sin to kill infants in the
- 12:43womb or otherwise, and to support doing so is a mortal sin. And
- 12:50there he was calling himself a Catholic on National TV just a few nights ago.
- 12:54Saying he's going to make rovy way. Well, portion writes, as
- 13:00they call it federal law. No, he has to be excommunicated anyway,
- 13:07y'all. Let's get back to the exhaustive explanation of the Catechism, and where
- 13:13at this is a sub chapter number two under the church, and this is
- 13:22the head of the church. The mainstay of the church is the Pope.
- 13:26He is the rock on which the church rests. That's Matthew sixteen eighteen.
- 13:30And his office secures the maintenance of unity. Saint John Chrysostom says that the
- 13:35church would fail if it was not for its head, who is the center
- 13:39of its unity, as a ship would be wrecked if deprived of its pilot.
- 13:43Saint Cyprian added that the enemies of the Church direct their attacks against its
- 13:46head in the Pope, and that deprived of his guidance, it may be
- 13:52shipwrecked. Among the popes are counted no less than forty martyrs. Christ conferred
- 13:58upon Saint Peter, the premissy over the apostles and the faithful, by the
- 14:03command feed my lambs, feed my sheep, by giving over to him the
- 14:07keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, and by special marks of distinction. After
- 14:11his resurrection, Christ appeared to the apostles on the lake on the Lake of
- 14:16Gennesareth, and after the triple question to Peter, lovest thou me gave him
- 14:22the solemn precept, Feed my lambs, I e. The faithful, feed
- 14:26my sheep, I E. The Apostles, John twenty one fifteen. This
- 14:31office had been promised to Saint Peter before the resurrection. On the occasion of
- 14:35his confession at Caesarea Philippi says Area Philippi, I guess that's William. I'm
- 14:41supposed to pronounce it, Thou art Peter. And upon this rock I will
- 14:43build my church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.
- 14:48And I would give to thee the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. And
- 14:50whatsoever thou shalt bind upon the earth that shall be bound in Heaven, and
- 14:54whatsoever thou shalt loose upon earth, that shall also be loosed in Heaven,
- 15:00It's Matthew sixteen, eighteen and nineteen. The special marks of distinction conferred on
- 15:05Saint Peter were the following. Christ gave him a new name, Peter.
- 15:09He chose him to be with him at the most solemn occasions, as on
- 15:11Mount Tabor and in the Garden of Olives. He appeared to Saint Peter after
- 15:16his resurrection, before showing himself to any other apostle Luke twenty four thirty four
- 15:20and First Corinthians fifteen to five, et cetera. Saint Peter always acted as
- 15:26chief of the Apostles, and was so acknowledged by them. He spoke in
- 15:30the name of the other apostles. On Pentecost, he received into the church
- 15:35its first Jewish and Gentile members. He performed the first miracle. It was
- 15:39he who moved for the choice of a new apostle. He defeated the apostles
- 15:43before the Jewish tribunal. His opinion prevailed at the Council of the Apostles.
- 15:48The apostles reorganized his pre eminence. The apostles recognized his pre eminence for the
- 15:54evangelists, and giving the title of the Apostles always places Saint Peter firms in
- 16:03Saint Paul. After his conversion, regarded it as his duty to present himself
- 16:07to Saint Peter. Saint Peter was Bishop of Rome for some twenty five years
- 16:11and died Bishop of Rome, and the dignity and power of Saint Peter descended
- 16:15upon the succeeding bishops of Rome. There is a great amount of evidence for
- 16:19the presence of Saint Peter in Rome from the year forty four to sixty nine.
- 16:25Saint Peter writes about the year sixty five, the Church said is in
- 16:27Babylon. Saluteth you, and so doth my son Mark. Babylon was a
- 16:33name given by the early Christians to Rome and account of the greatness and immorality.
- 16:37Of account of its greatness and immorality, Saint Clement of Rome writes about
- 16:41the year one hundred Peter and Paul were with an enormous number of Christians martyred
- 16:45in Rome. Tertullian, a priest of Carthage, about the year two hundred,
- 16:49congratulates the Church of Rome because Peter died there crucified like his lord,
- 16:55and Saint Peter died like another John the Baptist. In addition, I'm sorry
- 17:00Saint Paul died like an old John the Baptist to meet beheaded. In addition,
- 17:03the grave of Saint Peter was long ago discovered. His body laid a
- 17:07catacomb under Nero's circus. The third Pope erected a small chapel over it,
- 17:14to be replaced by the beautiful edifice built by Constantine in three twenty four.
- 17:18When this fell into disrepair, the present building of Saint Peter's was erected in
- 17:22sixteen twenty nine. The Bishops of Rome have always exercised supreme power in the
- 17:30church, and that power has always been acknowledged. When dissensions arose in the
- 17:34Church of Corinth about the year one hundred, the matter was referred not to
- 17:37the apostles Saint John at Ephesus, but to the Bishop of Rome, Saint
- 17:41Clement. About the year one ninety, the Pope Victor commanded the people of
- 17:47Asia Minor to conform to the Roman usage in the celebration of Easter, and
- 17:52those who demurred were threatened with excommunication, whereupon they yielded. There you go.
- 18:00The year two fifty, Pope Stephen forbade the bishops of North Africa to
- 18:03rebaptize those who returned to the bosom of the church, and excommunicated those who
- 18:08resisted. The bishops of Rome had the first place in all general councils.
- 18:12When heresy broke out, the Bishops of Rome always inquired into it, and
- 18:17to him other bishops appealed when unjustly oppressed. Thus, when Saint Athanasius was
- 18:22deposed by the Emperor, the Pope reinstated him. From the earliest times the
- 18:27titles high Priests and Bishop of Bishops have been given to the Bishop of Rome.
- 18:32When at the Council of Chalcedon the letter of Pope Leo was read to
- 18:36the assembled bishops, they cried out with one voice, Peter has spoken by
- 18:40Leo. Let him be anathema who believes otherwise. The Vatican Council declares that
- 18:45is the will of Christ that till the end of the world there'd be successors
- 18:48to Saint Peter. The Bishop of Rome is called Pope or Holy Father.
- 18:53He is also called an account of this great dignity, the Holy Father,
- 18:56his Holiness, Vicar of Christ, Father Christ. On account of the opening
- 19:02words of Christ's speech to Saint Peter, Blessed Art Dal Matthew sixteen seventeen,
- 19:07the Pope is addressed as Beatissimi Potter, Blessed Father. The offices called the
- 19:14See of Peter, the Holy See, or the Apostolic Sea. The chair
- 19:18of Saint Peter is still to be seen in Rome. Chair is a literal
- 19:22chair when you say something is ex ex cathedral, I mean it's from the
- 19:26chair of Peter. The pope is also called from his see, the Pope
- 19:32of Rome, and the church under him the Roman Catholic Church. Pope Leo
- 19:36the eighth was born in Carpinetto in Italy. Probably a better way to say
- 19:41that Italian's not good. It's not existent, actually, except for food.
- 19:47I love Italian food. March two, eighteen ten, Ordained Priest December thirty
- 19:52one, eighteen thirty seven, Archbishop of Perugia in eighteen forty six, in
- 19:57Pope February twenty, eighteen seventy eight. To his energy, we owe the
- 20:03appolition of slavery in Brazil, the campaign against it in Africa by the European
- 20:07nations, the repeal of many laws against the Church in Germany, the prevention
- 20:11of war between Germany and Spain, the founding of over one hundred bishoprics,
- 20:15especially among the Heathen. By his encyclicles, he has denounced the Freemasons,
- 20:22recommended in a special manner the Third Order of Saint Francis and devotion to the
- 20:27Rosary, displayed a zeal for the working classes, and exerted himself to produce
- 20:32reunion of the various Christian communities within the Catholic Church. He is the two
- 20:37hundred and fifty ninth Pope that was the pope when this was written. I
- 20:40want you to think about that pope became Hope in eighteen seventy eight and put
- 20:44an end to slavery in Brazil and Africa. Civil War United States eighteen sixty
- 20:53to about eighteen seventy really, you know, wasn't quite that long, but
- 20:59it was about the same time period. Two hundred five hundred thousand, is
- 21:04that right? Two hundred five hundred thousand killed on either side. Had America
- 21:08been a Catholic nation, Think about how many lives would have been saved.
- 21:17Had American been a Catholic nation, there probably would not have been slavery practice
- 21:21in here in the first place. Had England been a Catholic nation, England
- 21:25left the Catholic Church. Catholic Church ap closed slavery Eland and England embraced slavery
- 21:30when they figured out they could turn sugar into rum. People want to talk
- 21:38about how good Protestism is and how it, you know, led to freedom
- 21:45in America and all that. Just think, had America been a Catholic nation.
- 21:52Within ten years of the close of the Civil War, slavery was ended
- 21:59wherever it was in holdout countries. Brazil was a holdout, it had long
- 22:02been ended in Europe under Catholic authority. Hundreds of thousands of lives could have
- 22:10been spared. My great great great great grandfather, I guess that's about right
- 22:15far to the south. Of course, what was not a slaveholder doesn't seem
- 22:19to have cared anything about slavery. The North invaded and started burning people's homes,
- 22:23and he picked up a gun and went to fight against him. That's
- 22:26actually the real truth of the Civil War. There was not a shot fired
- 22:30at Fort Sumter when South Carolina succeeded. These shots began firing when the North
- 22:37march troops into the South and began slaughtering everyone white, black man, woman,
- 22:41child, burning homes, burning crops, stealing whatever they could take.
- 22:49Had America been a Catholic nation, what wouldn't have happened to my great great
- 22:56great great grandfather. Well, he was captured at Fort Fisher. He was
- 23:00taken a board ship and developed dysentery and was thrown overboard and drowned a life.
- 23:08Yeah, we now call it a war crime. We only know that
- 23:11because his cousin was taken to Elmira to a prison camp, forced to stand
- 23:15naked in several feet of snow until he froze to the point that he died.
- 23:21A few days later. Of Gangren wrote a final letter home telling what
- 23:26happened. Now people want to celebrate Abraham Lincoln and talk about how great the
- 23:30North was, how bad the South was. No, No, there's a
- 23:37reason we had entire black divisions of the Confederate Army. Yeah, that's one
- 23:44of those facts of history that people don't like talk about, do they.
- 23:48There were also black slaveholders, Believe it or not. There were plenty of
- 23:51white people who didn't own slaves who just fought to protect their homes and families,
- 23:53and there were black people and Indians who owned slaves who fought for slavery.
- 24:00Bottom line is Lincoln said he would preserve savory if it would preserve the
- 24:06Union. He didn't really care about black people, and men like Robert E.
- 24:11Lee were abolitionists just fighting to protect their homes. You don't like that,
- 24:15shove it, I don't care. That's the truth. That's the truth.
- 24:18You're not gonna be taught in school You're also not gonna be taught in
- 24:19school that had America been a Catholic nation, those hundreds of thousands of lives
- 24:26could have been spared. No. I mean, at least when I was
- 24:30in school, we were taught about what great a great hero Martin Luther was,
- 24:36and about how wonderful the Protestants were, the Pilgrims at Plymouth Rock,
- 24:40and how America was founded on Protestant values. Yeah, I guess it was,
- 24:44wasn't it. Yeah, I guess it was, wasn't it. Anyway?
- 24:52He goes on, pope has precedence of honor over all other bishops and
- 24:57also jurisdiction over the who Church. Vatican Council four and three made that clear,
- 25:03quoting from Saint Bernard. The pope is a high priest, the prince
- 25:07among bishops. The following are some of his prerogatives. He assumes the new
- 25:12name upon election, as Saint Peter received a new name from our Lord to
- 25:17signify that he is wholly devoted to his new office. From the tenth century
- 25:22onward, it has been the custom to choose the name from those of previous
- 25:26popes, Saint Peter's alone being accepted out of reverence. He is privileged to
- 25:30wear the tiara or miter with the triple crown, expressive the triple office of
- 25:36teacher, priest and pastor. He also has a crozier ending in across.
- 25:41It's basically a shepherd's staff, you know, and a sotain. I guess
- 25:45say you poss that of white silk. His foot is kissed in memory of
- 25:48the words of Saint Paul. How beautiful are the feet of them that preach
- 25:52the gospel of peace, of them that bring glad tidings of good things Romans
- 25:56ten fifteen. He has a high power in the church as teacher of all
- 26:00Christians. Again, that's first Vatican Council declared that, and is chief shepherd
- 26:07of all shepherds and their flocks. That's the reason he has the closure.
- 26:11He has the most complete jurisdiction in deciding questions of faith, in morals,
- 26:15and in arranging the discipline of the universal Church. This power extensive every single
- 26:19church and every single bishop and pastor. He may elect and depose bishops,
- 26:26call together councils, make and unmake laws, send out missionaries, confer privileges
- 26:30and dispensations, and reserve sends to his own tribunal. For the same reason,
- 26:38he may personally teach and guide any of the bishops in their flock.
- 26:41He is a supreme judge of all the faithful. To him. Remains the
- 26:45final appeal. The Pope may choose seventy cardinals to act as his counselors.
- 26:51They may have the right of choosing a new pope after the sea has been
- 26:55vacant for twelve days. Their address is scarlet. Their dress is a scarlet
- 27:00and mantle, to remind them of their duty of loyalty to the Pope at
- 27:03even the costs of their own blood. They form the various committees or congregations
- 27:10i e g. The Congregation of Rights, of Indulgences, etc. The
- 27:17Pope is quite independent of every temporal sovereignty and of every spiritual power. For
- 27:22many years, the popes were temporal sovereigns and ruled as such at the state
- 27:26and the church. The growth of the latter came about in the following manner.
- 27:30In the first centuries, many estates were bestowed to the pope as a
- 27:33free gift. From the time of Constantine the Great, the emperors lived away
- 27:37from Rome, and thus the papacy began to exercise a certain authority of the
- 27:41city in central Italy. In seven fifty four, Pepin, the Frankish king,
- 27:48gave over to the Pope the territory he had won by the sword in
- 27:51the neighborhood of Rome, and also some towns on the eastern coast of Italy.
- 27:56This grant was confirmed by Pepin's son Charlemagne in seven seventy four. The
- 28:00Pope's lost and regained these possessions some seventy seven times. Italy has never been
- 28:04a unified country until very recent times, and maybe shouldn't be. Actually,
- 28:11in eighteen fifty nine all the territory except Rome was torn from the Pope,
- 28:15and in eighteen seventy Rome itself, so that now all the Pope possesses is
- 28:19the Vatican. This temporal sovereignty was of great advantage of the Church. Is
- 28:25secure that the Pope's independence in the exercise of his authority, and gave him
- 28:29a status among the powers of the earth, and supplied him with the funds
- 28:32for carrying on the business connected with the Church, besides ensuring liberty in the
- 28:37choice of a pope. At the present he is helped by the alms of
- 28:41the faithful, called Peter's pence. Though deprived of his possessions, the pope
- 28:45is still recognized as a sovereign even in Italy, and he has acted as
- 28:51an arbitrary between nations in many wars that popes prevented. Many will remember his
- 28:56decision in eighteen eighty five and the disputed claims of Spain and Germany to the
- 29:00Carolina Islands. He also issues metals, confers orders, has the golden white
- 29:07standard adopted an allusion to the words of Saint Peter, silver and gold I
- 29:11have none, and has ambassadors, legates and nuncios at various courts, etc.
- 29:18The Pope is supreme on earth, not being subject even to a general
- 29:22council. Any who appeal from the Pope to a general council are liable to
- 29:26excommunication. So yeah, King Henry didn't have that power. There's no authority
- 29:34on the face of the earth higher than the Pope, and the only authority
- 29:38higher than the Pope is God himself. Like it or not, we'll have
- 29:42good popes, we'll have bad popes. The Church established by Christ would endure
- 29:48until the end of time, a shining city set upon a hill visible to
- 29:52all ages, and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it. Y'all
- 29:57have a go and remember the words of Saint Padre Pio, pray, hope
- 30:00and don't worry and I'll talk to you next time.
