- Cory McCaskey: think about the people that you love. And think about those that you've lost and what you wished you could hear them say or the questions that you would ask, and then do something about it today. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: Welcome to the Glovisor Podcast, where we explore business growth, communication, and personal development through real conversations with people who make an impact. Our guest is the co-founder of Before I'm Gone, a platform built around making the most of the-time we have and taking action on what matters most before the opportunity passes. Glovisor welcomes Corey McCaskey. Cory McCaskey: Hello, how are you, Joe? Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: great, thanks. Pleasure to have you and excited to hear more. Cory McCaskey: Well thank you. I'm glad to be here. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: All right, so Corey, let's start it off. What is it that you do and who do you help? Cory McCaskey: Yeah, so a long story. spent over twenty years, almost pushing thirty years now in sales leadership, coaching, and developing people. but my life didn't exactly follow a traditional path, right? I became a father at a very young age, fourteen. had to overcome some pretty difficult circumstances growing up, survived the catastrophic motorcycle accident that left me in a coma for several weeks. spent over a year recovering and learning to walk again and Those experiences shaped how I look at life, leadership, and purpose. And so I shifted my focus to a company we just built called BeforeImGone.com. And who we help is absolutely everyone and anyone that has a story or a legacy that they would like to leave behind, knowing that tomorrow isn't promised, but now our love and our legacy can be. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: Lots of questions here. All right. Cory McCaskey: Great. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: So let's go back to it. So I I see all these huge moments in your life, right? But which one was the defining moment that that made you realize I had to do something and I want to get it out to the world? Cory McCaskey: definitely the motorcycle accident, right? most people realize that tomorrow isn't promise, but I don't think you really think about it until you're in a circumstance like that. tomorrow is a privilege, not a promise, right? I learned that surviving wasn't the victory. The victory comes after surviving. What do you do with that opportunity? And so I that's something I try to carry with me every day. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: you had that defining moment that made you realize this, but you're a co-founder in this venture. How do you Cory McCaskey: Yes. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: get someone else to see your vision? Cory McCaskey: it was a this is a my partner is a longtime friend I've known since early grade school. I was coaching him on a different project. He had a patent on something that we were getting ready to take to manufacturing. We had spent almost about a year putting everything together. And we came to a point where he said something that just set a fire in both of set a fire inside both of us, which was, I wish I could talk to my bat dad or tell my dad about this. And I said, I would give every dollar that I've ever earned to be able to speak to my father again. And it sparked this idea because there's with estate planning, you can plan for what happens with your home. With financial planning, you can plan for what happens with the money. But what about your stories, your memories? How do you tell your kids how to be smart and what you want them to do with the money? Who estate planning can leave someone a house, but Who tells the story about why that house was important to you or what special memories you made inside that house? And so that's what the platform allows people to do. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: So tell me more about the platform. How does it record those moments and and those key places in my life so I can share with the next generation? Cory McCaskey: if you've ever gone through losing someone and having to go through the cold, empty, lonely home, dig digging through paperwork, trying to find out where accounts are, what needs to be closed, who to call, insurance policies, it can be exhausting. on top of dealing with all that, you're you're you're trying to grieve, right? And so we wanted to create something that could deliver the messages. As far in the future as you wanted, guaranteed and secured. So half of what we built over the last two years was the security surrounding it. It's triple encrypted, same level of security as a financial institution or a government institution. We're hosted by AWS, which is Amazon. So someone would have to break through Amazon security before they ever even get to our first three gates of security. But how it's done is we're able to record videos and messages. Inside of our platform, and you could say, Hey, I want this delivered to my great grandson who isn't even born yet in the year 2097, and it sets inside the platform which is locked until you're passing, which there's a designated executor that would trigger the unlock of that vault. The moment the chosen moments vault is unlocked. Now you start getting your final preparations checklist. You know everything that that person wanted. You know every account to call, what accounts need closed, because a lot of people don't realize that the heir, the person who's going to receive whatever is left, every day that that cable bill, that cell phone bill is taking away from what you're going to get at the end. So it's it's very important to get those accounts canceled and closed out immediately. So you start receiving all the information. And then you can set messages those video messages for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries. So you could send your spouse a message 20 years after you're gone. Or if you want to set one to be delivered every year on her birthday or your children. and it's all locked inside of a secure digital platform. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: if you can tell me how does that work that I can send a message to my great grandson who hasn't been born yet. So Cory McCaskey: Yeah. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: how how do we know who that who he is and when he will be born and when can that message unlock? How can that be activated? Cory McCaskey: Yeah, absolutely. It it's a lot easier to envision sending it to a pre-existing family member, somebody that's in your inner circle, right? But we had two years with one of the top development teams in the country. Their name is Sketch Development out of St. Louis, Missouri. And we had two years to put our brains together and try to think of everything that could possibly be encountered and how we could solve that issue, right? And so with your executor is going to lay the ability for them to release certain messages. If your daughter or grandchild was going to get married and you wanted to leave a video message that could be played for them at that special time, your executor would have control over releasing that video. The videos that you want to send out for a birthday, a wedding or a birthday or an anniversary or one of those type of occasions, I can record today and say, hey, I want this delivered. My wife sent me one this year for my birthday last month. So you don't even have to be gone. But imagine the impact. Of receiving a birthday message or an anniversary message years after that person's gone. So I could, for example, say, hey, October 9th, I want to send Joe a message in 2030 and I want to tell him this. And I can have, I have my we have our own proprietary AI that is built into the system. So if you have trouble wording things, it will learn you your profile, so it will speak like you, it will help you word things, and then there's built-in teleprompters. So that you can read off of the teleprompter and make your video look like you were an expert. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: So I guess we have a podcast schedule for 2030. Is that what it is? Cory McCaskey: That could be something that can be arranged. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: Now, can you share with us possibly a client success story of someone who's utilized your platform? Cory McCaskey: Yeah, absolutely. So this platform, and first of all, I'm going to tell you some personal stories and and the inspiration kind of behind why it was built. You heard about my personal story that I went through, but that was years ago. my mom was diagnosed about a year and a half ago with a rare blood cancer. My cousin, Sean, was diagnosed about 10 years ago with stage four softport alveolar sarcoma. It's a very, very rare cancer. He was never expected to be here ten years later, as a single father at that. So my hat's off to him. But he was a huge inspiration behind this. The thought that him or my mom or myself, who just went through four months ago, went to the dentist for a normal checkup, right? As we get older, these these things start happening to us. And and so I went to the dentist for a normal checkup. They did a scan and all they told me was we have to send you to your doctor. And I'm like, You can't tell me what's going on. And they're like, no, you have to go see your doctor. And they I had a nickel-sized tumor right behind my eye socket inside my head that had to be removed immediately. I went through double surgeries. I was down for four months. This is three weeks up and back moving around again. That's how new this is. And so again, when I talk about the thought of n of not being able to leave behind the things that truly matter, after going through the motorcycle accident, it really made me question what matters that you leave behind? Again, I can leave things, but I can't leave myself. What about the grandchild? What about the nuclear family in general that is growing further and farther further apart every year? When I was a child, we had family reunions every year. Family would come from all over the country together. We were together for holidays. Nowadays, my family lives all across the States, and we're lucky if we get a text message out to everybody on a holiday that says, Hey, Merry Christmas, right? So it's things have changed. And so this was a way to keep everyone tied together and deliver the messages that matter most when they're needed most. for example, another feature inside the platform is your you can pre-record a eulogy. So a video can be played where you can literally speak from your own funeral and s in your final words, right? Things that have never been able to be done before. You can do a pre-guided life story interview where our proprietary AI asks you questions about your life to formulate it into a story and records a documentary style video to be sent to your and saved for your your kids, your grandkids and so on and so forth. So a hundred years from now your family can know who you are. They can have the history, the video proof. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: Is it not knowing that I'm gonna A need it or B, would this still be around a hundred years from now? because we don't really know, right? We're always thinking of everything in the present. So is that some of the resistance that comes up by those common questions? Cory McCaskey: everybody I've spoken to is really impressed, especially inside the industry. And and let me elaborate on that a little bit. Our strategy was never to go direct bus B2C, right? Business to consumer. We're working with huge organizations, cancer foundations, health and medical institutes, financial planners, estate planners, people that already have these relationships so that their customers can find the solution organically, because it is very difficult. To get somebody to consider their own mortality. Everybody knows that it's something they need. They just don't know how long when they need it or how long they have before they need it, I guess I should say. And that's what pushes the passion. I I'm I'm simply tired of seeing people wait for a tragic event to happen and then say, I should have. Wish, I wish I woulda, shoulda, coulda, right? This isn't for people that are in the final stages of a traumatic. experience or or a diagnosis. This is for the middle of life so that you can build and add to it as you go. The 35 year old parent with with young children has a lifetime of stories that are worth preserving. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: Now you mentioned that you're working with organizations, but this is available to customers today, that they can go on your platform and Cory McCaskey: absolutely. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: order it. Cory McCaskey: absolutely. Yeah, you could go to the before I'm gone dot com and purchase your chosen moments boat today. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: how difficult is it to upload this information? Is this something that I have to pre-record on my separate camera and then upload it, or does it have a camera built in? How does that work? Cory McCaskey: No, absolutely. Everything is built in. It is an all-in-one, all inclusive platform. So you're gonna have your video capability as well as like I said, you have the proprietary AI that's built in if you need help wording things. You don't have to use it. Some people don't want to. Some people think it's the best thing. My cousin Sean, the one that's that's fighting stage four cancer, he told me the personal experience about when he did try to record a message for his son. in case something happened to him. He wanted to have something that that was there for him. And he said it was very, very difficult because every time he would go to say a sentence, he would choke up or or you know, and I s I asked him, I said, Well, Sean, let me ask, if you had an AI, a custom AI, and obviously we all have Jet G BT and all this stuff now, but we know how that works. If you had a proprietary ch AI that you could ask how to word things and it it would put it on a teleprompter for you to be able to read it off the camera, would that make things easier? And he's like, absolutely. And so that was again one of the inspirations behind that, the method behind our madness of creating that. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: how long did this take from inception to the first time a customer was able to log in to their own account? Cory McCaskey: it is ongoing. So it took us about two years to complete it from start to finish to actually launch. we just launched, it would be about four months now that we have launched. and it is still ongoing. And when I say that, I mean we're still working with the development team. Every time somebody says, Man, this is amazing, but I wish this was in it. We can add that. tweaking little things like adding some new features here and there. So It we continue to work with our team to develop it, but it it took us the better part of two years every morning meeting with the development team, going through JIRA tickets, working on things that we wanted to update and and figuring out how to overcome some of the problems that were hard to foresee because they had not happened yet. So we had to think about a lot of that stuff. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: we never talk about pricing because pricing changes very often. but are there different categories and memberships? Cory McCaskey: There are. We are, and you've got to understand again, when I say that this wasn't built in a boardroom or wasn't built with the idea of of making it a big business, when we started to create this, it was for us. It was because my partner had just lost eight family members in the matter of six months. Parents, his father, grandparents, his wife was diagnosed with cancer. She's fighting being d diabetic and was able to beat cancer the first time. And so it was just an ongoing struggle. And while we're building the platform, I'm going through my experiences. And so it's one of those things where we wanted to make it affordable for everyone. So there is financing available. You can pay as low as a few dollars a month for your for your plan. But it is also a one-time purchase. We did not want to build this as a subscription model because we couldn't imagine somebody losing their legacy or everything that they had built because of an expired credit card. Or you know, a missed payment. And so it we have two different plans. one is our heirloom package, and then one is our heritage package. And I'm gonna encourage you to go to the website and check that out. And I'll just tell you between you and I, Joe, over the longevity of the plan storage is very expensive. we we are almost at a break-even over about a hundred year period. And if you think about the time frame from a parent to record all their messages, leave it for their kids, and then then leave it for their kids, you're easily at a hundred years. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: Is there a takeaway that you want our listeners to remember from this conversation? Cory McCaskey: Absolutely. the reason that we did what we did, again, I have been on a mission of purpose over paychecks and impact over income for several years. was the regional director of expansion at Keller Williams and taught agents for many years. I taught at Monument at Dallas Cowboys headquarters here in Frisco, Texas. And one thing that I've always taught people is make sure that you're chasing your passion, but make sure that you're doing right by people. when you're helping people and when you're solving problems, you don't have to hunt customers. It I think that in sales, people's biggest problem is they think it's them against the prospect or them against the customer. And it's not. It's you and the pros the prospect or you and the customer against the problem. And so I I think that that's probably one of the biggest problems with relationships is they become transactional, not relational, right? But i if I had one thing to say to everybody, it would be if if there's one thing for anybody listening, think about the people that you love. And think about those that you've lost and what you wished you could hear them say or the questions that you would ask, and then do something about it today. Whether you join before I'm gone dot com or not, whether you become a client or customer of ours, do something so that your family has something to remember you by. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: That's a good point. Now, where can people connect with you, find out more about your work, and continue this conversation? Cory McCaskey: you can reach me obviously my email is Cory C O R Y at before I'm gone dot com. you could please go check out before I'm gone dot com. You can find us on any social media site and we hope to hear from you and we hope to see you guys. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: Corey, thank you so much for joining us and for putting this together and helping humanity. Cory McCaskey: We appreciate that. When we tell people that we feel like we have built one of the most important things ever created, we mean that. So that that means a lot coming from you and we appreciate it, Joe. Joe Abreu - GLOVISOR.com: Yeah, you're welcome. Thanks everyone for listening. If this episode inspired you, make sure you share it with someone.
