- 0:18Speaker 1: You know, without pads us us getting into them a
- 0:20Speaker 1: little bit. Obviously they're looking forward, but we gotta find
- 0:22Speaker 1: a way to respond. I think that's where football is.
- 0:25Speaker 1: How do you respond to when you do get hit
- 0:27Speaker 1: a little bit. They got pads on too, and they
- 0:28Speaker 1: get paid to play, so at something we're gonna respond
- 0:31Speaker 1: better for tomorrow. I think you know, if you look
- 0:34Speaker 1: at it, we're gonna go correct where we're supposed to correct.
- 0:38Speaker 2: The competition and the energy taking up a notch now
- 0:40Speaker 2: that pads are on. I'm Kadannie Stevens here for Jacks
- 0:42Speaker 2: a M. Brian Sexton and John Osier are with me.
- 0:45Speaker 2: It's a day off for the players. But the pads
- 0:46Speaker 2: went on this week and the competition level went way
- 0:49Speaker 2: up as well. We're gonna start off with big things,
- 0:51Speaker 2: and our first big thing is full pads, full go.
- 0:54Speaker 2: As pads went on this week, we saw competition on
- 0:56Speaker 2: both sides of the football amp things up, specifically in
- 0:59Speaker 2: one on one drills. Brian, when you were watching in
- 1:01Speaker 2: the last couple of days with pads going on, what
- 1:03Speaker 2: was the biggest thing that stood out to you.
- 1:05Speaker 3: On one pass rush?
- 1:06Speaker 4: Obviously, and we talked about it earlier in the week
- 1:08Speaker 4: when we did our show on Monday about how the
- 1:11Speaker 4: pads would create the edge, would create the intensity, And
- 1:15Speaker 4: yesterday it was the hottest, longest practice so far, and
- 1:19Speaker 4: there was a fierce competition, especially when they were doing
- 1:22Speaker 4: one on one with the offensive and defensive lineman working
- 1:25Speaker 4: in the run game. And to watch Cam Robinson, you know,
- 1:29Speaker 4: mixing it up. Mason Smith is a guy who has
- 1:33Speaker 4: been very vocal when he's had successes. The energy level
- 1:36Speaker 4: went up, the intensity level went up, and it was good.
- 1:38Speaker 4: It was good to see the scrappiness.
- 1:40Speaker 5: It's not a nice game.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Guys weren't nice to each other during the drills.
- 1:43Speaker 2: I like that.
- 1:44Speaker 6: Yeah, training camp sort of start sometimes when Cam decides
- 1:48Speaker 6: he's not going to take anymore, and I love him
- 1:51Speaker 6: for that. It's it ramped up the last couple of days.
- 1:56Speaker 6: There's still another level that they'll reach when they actually
- 1:59Speaker 6: start their quote live stuff.
- 2:01Speaker 5: It never gets fully live.
- 2:02Speaker 6: But this is all part of that thing that I'm
- 2:06Speaker 6: still getting used to, the whole acclamation period of training
- 2:10Speaker 6: camp where people jump the gun, because in the first
- 2:14Speaker 6: few days of this thing it's really like OTA's but
- 2:16Speaker 6: in the last couple of days it has felt a
- 2:19Speaker 6: little closer in the mid nineties football, although it'll never
- 2:22Speaker 6: be mid nineties football.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Guy, it's not like the days anymore, but we do try.
- 2:26Speaker 2: It's good to see a little bit more competition out there,
- 2:28Speaker 2: and as you mentioned, it does feel a bit different
- 2:30Speaker 2: the last.
- 2:30Speaker 5: Couple of days.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Our next big thing is Tide's turn. Obviously there was
- 2:34Speaker 2: a lot made those first couple of days. We talked
- 2:36Speaker 2: about the offense not really looking like they had things together. John,
- 2:39Speaker 2: we talked about not making too big of a deal
- 2:41Speaker 2: about it, but it was nice to see the last
- 2:42Speaker 2: couple of days the offense has looked a bit different.
- 2:45Speaker 6: Yeah, And it seems like every year we say we're
- 2:48Speaker 6: not gonna forget that the first couple of days or
- 2:52Speaker 6: just the first couple of days, and then we forget
- 2:54Speaker 6: and we panic. Some people sort of attribute to the
- 2:57Speaker 6: offense coming around to pads. I think it's more they
- 3:01Speaker 6: game plan not at all in the first couple of days,
- 3:04Speaker 6: and then as you start seeing a little more comfortability
- 3:08Speaker 6: with plays, as Guy likes to say, and then you know,
- 3:11Speaker 6: as you see a little more scheming against the defense,
- 3:14Speaker 6: you see a little more success. Brian, it's hard in
- 3:17Speaker 6: the NFL to line up eleven on eleven, not scheme
- 3:21Speaker 6: at all and beat other world class athletes. They need
- 3:24Speaker 6: to scheme, and I think we've seen it the last
- 3:26Speaker 6: couple of days.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Well, John, especially guys that you practice against. I mean,
- 3:28Speaker 4: it was no surprise to me that it was Dewey
- 3:30Speaker 4: who had the two interceptions in the red zone last week,
- 3:33Speaker 4: because he's event, he's been around, he knows what to read.
- 3:36Speaker 4: He sees this every day. It's just part of the process.
- 3:40Speaker 4: In meetings, right, they lay out the practice plan. Guys
- 3:43Speaker 4: know who they're repping against and what time they're repping.
- 3:45Speaker 4: It's not a complete surprise. They're trying to get good
- 3:49Speaker 4: work done and that doesn't always equate to making it
- 3:53Speaker 4: simple for one side or the other. Guy like Dewey
- 3:55Speaker 4: can make a guy look bad just by taking advantage
- 3:58Speaker 4: of the situation.
- 3:59Speaker 2: That's important to remember. They're running set design plays, right,
- 4:01Speaker 2: they're in the red zone, they're on third and long.
- 4:03Speaker 2: They're doing that because they're difficult plays. So sometimes that's
- 4:06Speaker 2: what we're watching as well. But it is nice to
- 4:08Speaker 2: see the offense the last couple of days. Our last
- 4:10Speaker 2: big thing today is going to be competition now there's
- 4:13Speaker 2: competition in a lot of different groups on this team, Brian,
- 4:16Speaker 2: When you were looking at position groups, is it the secondary?
- 4:19Speaker 2: Is it what you've been seeing with the wide receivers.
- 4:21Speaker 2: What's a position group of competition that you've been excited
- 4:23Speaker 2: to watch so well?
- 4:24Speaker 4: A linebacking group is Listen, you know what you've got
- 4:27Speaker 4: in Foyer, Lucan and in Devin Lloyd.
- 4:30Speaker 3: And they're really excited about the way he's playing.
- 4:32Speaker 4: He's playing the middle linebacker position a lot more right
- 4:34Speaker 4: now than the weak side or even the strong In fact,
- 4:36Speaker 4: I think he's going to be to mic this year,
- 4:38Speaker 4: and they love what they're seeing from him. Ventrel Miller,
- 4:41Speaker 4: who last year suffered an achilles tear and that generally
- 4:44Speaker 4: is a long rehabit, especially for a linebacker that you
- 4:48Speaker 4: want roaming all over the.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Field, He's looked great.
- 4:50Speaker 4: He left practice on Monday with a little bit of
- 4:52Speaker 4: a hamstring tweak man.
- 4:54Speaker 3: He was back in it, I mean back in it.
- 4:56Speaker 4: And the guy who's running all over the field, he's
- 4:59Speaker 4: not going to unseat either of those other two guys,
- 5:03Speaker 4: but he's gonna push for playing time and I can
- 5:05Speaker 4: tell you for a fact they want him on the
- 5:07Speaker 4: field in situations because you know, linebackers get banged up,
- 5:11Speaker 4: they get hurt, and this guy needs to be ready
- 5:13Speaker 4: to go. Talented guy, very talented guy. So that inside
- 5:16Speaker 4: linebacking position it's fun to watch.
- 5:19Speaker 6: Yeah, if Ventrell's healthy, he can play. I mean his
- 5:23Speaker 6: issue has been health over his career. I guess I
- 5:27Speaker 6: kind of went chalk and watched the lines. That's what
- 5:30Speaker 6: you watch first couple of days of hitting. You get
- 5:32Speaker 6: one on one pass rush, you get some lines going
- 5:35Speaker 6: against each other. I liked what we saw from Devon
- 5:39Speaker 6: Hamilton yesterday, who did a great job against Mitch Morse,
- 5:43Speaker 6: and there were some people saying, well, Mitch Morris, what's.
- 5:45Speaker 5: Wrong with him?
- 5:47Speaker 6: Maybe nothing, because Devon Hamilton at the end of twenty two, remember,
- 5:51Speaker 6: was turning into a dominant force.
- 5:53Speaker 5: Was sort of, you know, not able to do anything
- 5:55Speaker 5: last year.
- 5:56Speaker 6: If there remains something to watch for me if Devon
- 6:00Speaker 6: Hamilton is dominant, Devon Hamilton boy. All of a sudden,
- 6:04Speaker 6: this defensive line with Armstead and with Josh Allen and
- 6:08Speaker 6: with Trayvon Walker.
- 6:09Speaker 5: He started listing a lot of guys that.
- 6:13Speaker 6: You have to account for as an offensive line, and
- 6:15Speaker 6: they can't account for everybody, by.
- 6:16Speaker 3: The way, that was Devon. He had a great day
- 6:19Speaker 3: on Tuesday.
- 6:20Speaker 4: On Wednesday, Mitch was much more stout, he was more prepared.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Remember he hadn't faced Devon, so I'm not sure he
- 6:27Speaker 4: was ready for his power. And it was noticeable on
- 6:29Speaker 4: Wednesday that he was much stronger and much more ready
- 6:32Speaker 4: to handle. Although Devon is still a big handful for anybody,
- 6:36Speaker 4: and to.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Practice that way, it's only going to make both sides
- 6:38Speaker 2: of football better. We talk about iron Sharpen's iron, and
- 6:40Speaker 2: now it feels like we really truly have competition at
- 6:43Speaker 2: these different positions on the team. Stay with us here

- 10:08Speaker 1: Now, I'm over here trying to win, trying to do
- 10:12Speaker 1: my job, really, just trying to impress the new staff here. No,
- 10:15Speaker 1: Coach Nielsen is a pretty pretty hard guy, so I'm impressed.
- 10:17Speaker 1: I'm trying to be the best for him because I
- 10:19Speaker 1: think if I play well for him, He's going to
- 10:21Speaker 1: take my career to a whole new level. So I
- 10:25Speaker 1: think I just keep saying the team wins, we all win.
- 10:28Speaker 1: That's how I'm focused on.
- 10:31Speaker 2: One of your leaders there on defense, Captain Foyer, Luke
- 10:33Speaker 2: saying he's trying to go out there impress new DC
- 10:36Speaker 2: Ryan Nielsen certainly what you want to hear from one
- 10:39Speaker 2: year leaders listen.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Nielsen obviously is impressed. He gushed about him at his
- 10:45Speaker 4: news conference the other day. And Foy, he's had a
- 10:46Speaker 4: really nice camp, you know. I mean, and he's one
- 10:48Speaker 4: of the first guys out on the field. And I
- 10:51Speaker 4: can tell you because I walked off with him yesterday.
- 10:53Speaker 4: The last guy's off the field. He's on the drugs machine,
- 10:56Speaker 4: he's catching tennis balls, he's he's working with Josh and Trayvon.
- 11:01Speaker 4: I mean, he's just he's one of those guys who
- 11:04Speaker 4: loves the game, loves to practice, loves to play, and
- 11:07Speaker 4: doesn't want to miss a minute of it.
- 11:08Speaker 6: Look, Foy went to Yale, and so he's a small
- 11:11Speaker 6: college guy coming in is it haven't heard of it?
- 11:13Speaker 5: It's prety good. It's no Florida.
- 11:15Speaker 6: But but he knows and he always plays with that
- 11:19Speaker 6: chip and he's smart enough to know that that's what
- 11:22Speaker 6: it takes to do in this league. He is a
- 11:25Speaker 6: constant effort guy, always going to lead by example.
- 11:29Speaker 7: Uh.
- 11:30Speaker 5: I guess not surprised that he's taking this approach and
- 11:32Speaker 5: I would expect him to be uber productive again this year.
- 11:36Speaker 2: So, Brian, Brian, you mentioned Ryan Nielson talking about Foye.
- 11:39Speaker 2: We have that SoundBite because so far he seems pretty impressed.
- 11:44Speaker 17: He's flying around as good as any player we have
- 11:47Speaker 17: on our defense.
- 11:48Speaker 11: Right now.
- 11:48Speaker 17: You see him if you just watch his body work
- 11:51Speaker 17: and you just watch him out practice today, the way
- 11:54Speaker 17: he finishes plays. You know, he's aggressively going to get
- 11:58Speaker 17: the ball, punch outs and I mean, he's had a
- 12:01Speaker 17: really good career so far, and so you're seeing that.
- 12:05Speaker 17: It's really cool to watch him because he's taken his
- 12:08Speaker 17: role and kind of made it his And that's what
- 12:09Speaker 17: we tried to do for all the players is hey,
- 12:11Speaker 17: here's fundamentals technique, and you know, make it yours. And
- 12:15Speaker 17: that's what he's doing. Yeah, it's really cool when he's
- 12:19Speaker 17: the ball goes to the other side and he's running
- 12:21Speaker 17: thirty yards down the field to go finish on the play, Like, Yeah,
- 12:25Speaker 17: that guy loves football. He's given everything he got for
- 12:28Speaker 17: this football team.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Seems to have already made a good impression on the
- 12:31Speaker 2: new DC do a little this or that in regards
- 12:34Speaker 2: to that, do you feel like Ryan Nielsen has been
- 12:37Speaker 2: impressed thus far just because of the effort he's seen,
- 12:39Speaker 2: or do you think there's a lot more work to
- 12:41Speaker 2: be done on defense?
- 12:42Speaker 5: I mean the whole group or holds a group as
- 12:44Speaker 5: a defense.
- 12:45Speaker 2: I think he's spoken highly of them thus far, so
- 12:47Speaker 2: I feel like they bought in pretty quickly.
- 12:49Speaker 4: Listen, he's an impressive coach and the way he communicates
- 12:53Speaker 4: so clearly what he wants, and I like to watch
- 12:55Speaker 4: him on the practice field as he goes from group
- 12:57Speaker 4: to group to group. Right, he steps over with the
- 12:58Speaker 4: defensive lineman and can John being to coach them on
- 13:00Speaker 4: their one on one pass rush technique, can drop over
- 13:03Speaker 4: to the linebackers, or go to the secondary safeties or corners.
- 13:06Speaker 4: It doesn't matter wherever he's at. He knows exactly what
- 13:09Speaker 4: he wants from the players. Look, that's eleven players, right,
- 13:13Speaker 4: And it's three different levels to the defense, and it's
- 13:15Speaker 4: two different practice fields, and none of it seems to
- 13:18Speaker 4: be beyond his ability to be right there in the moment,
- 13:21Speaker 4: focused on whatever the player in front of him needs
- 13:23Speaker 4: to do.
- 13:24Speaker 3: He's a really impressive guy.
- 13:25Speaker 4: So if he's impressed a and he wouldn't say this,
- 13:29Speaker 4: it's because he's done a really good job, and his
- 13:31Speaker 4: coaching staff has done a really good job.
- 13:34Speaker 5: Yeah, they have the buy in.
- 13:36Speaker 6: It is an attack aggressive scheme that is simpler than
- 13:39Speaker 6: what they have been in, so I think it's not
- 13:42Speaker 6: surprising that they'd be grasping it. Ryan Nielsen praised the
- 13:47Speaker 6: defensive coaches the other day for getting them into it quickly. Look,
- 13:52Speaker 6: we haven't seen a regular season game, but everything that
- 13:55Speaker 6: you want to hear and see from a defense that
- 13:58Speaker 6: is in its first year under a guy, it does
- 14:01Speaker 6: not seem at all like they're lost in it, which
- 14:04Speaker 6: that's going to give them a chance or what five
- 14:07Speaker 6: weeks away from the regular season. If they're not lost now,
- 14:10Speaker 6: you should see more speed and more suddenness wants the
- 14:13Speaker 6: reaular season.
- 14:13Speaker 4: And look not it's crochade at the previous staff, but
- 14:16Speaker 4: it's night and day the way these guys communicate, and
- 14:19Speaker 4: you can see and hear how the players communicate with
- 14:24Speaker 4: one another, and I think, guys, tell me that didn't
- 14:26Speaker 4: happen last year.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Communication was a big issue. Secondly, the back half of
- 14:29Speaker 2: the season when things were all going wrong.
- 14:32Speaker 5: Another of this or that.
- 14:33Speaker 2: John, you talked a little bit.
- 14:34Speaker 3: About watching the offense and the defensive line.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Obviously, both of those need to be good if this
- 14:39Speaker 2: team is going to be good. But what's most important
- 14:42Speaker 2: to you? I feel like we talked about every week
- 14:44Speaker 2: last week, but going into this, how.
- 14:46Speaker 3: Have you looked at it?
- 14:47Speaker 5: Yes?
- 14:48Speaker 4: Both, Oh, and.
- 14:52Speaker 6: I'm not trying to avoid the question. Yes, it's different
- 14:56Speaker 6: storylines right the defensive line.
- 14:59Speaker 5: The talent is clearly there.
- 15:00Speaker 6: You've got Armstead, You've got at least four guys. They
- 15:03Speaker 6: have a chance to be big time players in Hamilton Walker,
- 15:07Speaker 6: Armstead and Josh.
- 15:11Speaker 5: They have to be that. Those guys to me, have
- 15:14Speaker 5: to be stars. They have to be core guys. If
- 15:17Speaker 5: they are, it's a.
- 15:18Speaker 6: Special, special group. Ovens of line's a little bit different.
- 15:21Speaker 6: It has to be better than it was last year.
- 15:23Speaker 6: And Miss Morris has to be stouter. Which is more important?
- 15:26Speaker 6: I mean, if I would say it like this, if
- 15:29Speaker 6: either don't do the things we're talking about, then I'm
- 15:32Speaker 6: not sure the team makes the playoffs. I mean, I
- 15:34Speaker 6: think they both have to be better, and I can't
- 15:38Speaker 6: really say which is more important because I think if
- 15:39Speaker 6: you if either of them aren't the seasons in trouble,
- 15:42Speaker 6: for argument's.
- 15:42Speaker 4: Sake, I'll take one and I'll say that this league
- 15:44Speaker 4: is tilted so heavily in the rules towards offense.
- 15:47Speaker 3: They want to see offensive explosion.
- 15:49Speaker 4: And this team is built with a fifty five million
- 15:51Speaker 4: dollar quarterback in the first round draft pick is another
- 15:54Speaker 4: wide receiver, and the tight end is amongst the highest
- 15:57Speaker 4: paid at his position. They need this offense to funk,
- 16:00Speaker 4: and it clearly didn't last year because they couldn't stay
- 16:02Speaker 4: on the field. Ky worst in the league at third
- 16:05Speaker 4: down and three yards or less in terms of conversions.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Their inability to stay on the.
- 16:10Speaker 4: Field, it broke down any cohesiveness, any sort of real
- 16:14Speaker 4: play calling rhythm that you wanted to get in. Everyone
- 16:17Speaker 4: wants to point to Press Taylor. You got to understand
- 16:19Speaker 4: the bigger picture of what wasn't working. Their inability to
- 16:23Speaker 4: convert and to run the ball. They couldn't run the
- 16:25Speaker 4: ball in from a yard out on fourth down in
- 16:28Speaker 4: Tennessee cost him a chance to type the game and
- 16:30Speaker 4: maybe go to the playoffs.
- 16:31Speaker 3: So to me, it's offensive line this year.
- 16:33Speaker 6: I'm as passionate as he is about the offensive line.
- 16:36Speaker 6: And I keep remember in the last five games of
- 16:38Speaker 6: this season when it was.
- 16:40Speaker 5: So yeah, true, I mean that's true. But in an
- 16:43Speaker 5: offensive league outside with Brian on that.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Do you guys feel like there's an added depth to
- 16:48Speaker 2: both positions. Obviously a lot of that was injury, specifically
- 16:51Speaker 2: on the offensive line. A lot of it was injury
- 16:53Speaker 2: and kind of shuffling people around this time of the year.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Doug's been talking a lot about getting people ready so
- 16:57Speaker 2: if someone and when someone will go down that they're
- 17:00Speaker 2: ready to kind of step in and not be so
- 17:03Speaker 2: flustered by it. I feel like the offense has at
- 17:06Speaker 2: least so far been good with that, but the defense
- 17:09Speaker 2: has to be able to rotate a lot.
- 17:10Speaker 5: Specifically with the new scheme, they're going to be doing
- 17:12Speaker 5: that a lot well.
- 17:12Speaker 6: The defensive line, I do feel like they're deeper, I
- 17:17Speaker 6: guess because I feel like if Devon is healthy and
- 17:20Speaker 6: if Armstead is playing and he's at his level, I
- 17:26Speaker 6: think they're deeper in terms of Armstead, Josh and Trayvon
- 17:32Speaker 6: can all play edge.
- 17:33Speaker 5: Yeah, so you can.
- 17:35Speaker 6: You're stronger for longer in terms of getting disruption, So
- 17:40Speaker 6: I think they're deeper in terms of having guys who
- 17:42Speaker 6: can really impact a game. Are they deeper at seven
- 17:45Speaker 6: or eight? Ledbetter's look good goat says I mean, how.
- 17:48Speaker 3: About were Robertson Harris. Yeah, he's an impact player.
- 17:51Speaker 6: I think they're pretty deep, but I think they're really
- 17:54Speaker 6: really good and deep at the top, if that makes
- 17:57Speaker 6: any sense.
- 17:58Speaker 3: And listen the offensive side, A little concerned.
- 18:00Speaker 4: We'd hope to see more of Cooper Hodges, right, he
- 18:03Speaker 4: was gone all last season, injured his knee in the
- 18:05Speaker 4: Dallas game.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Now he's dealing with a back.
- 18:07Speaker 4: I think he's he's not out there, and he's a
- 18:09Speaker 4: guy that you want pushing both Brandon Sheriff and you
- 18:13Speaker 4: want him with Ezra Cleveland.
- 18:14Speaker 3: I think Cleveland has look good. I think Sheriff has
- 18:17Speaker 3: looked good so far in.
- 18:18Speaker 4: The two days we've seen a fully padded practices, and
- 18:20Speaker 4: I think Morse has something to say. Hodges is an
- 18:23Speaker 4: important piece. Sheriff is an older player. Morse is an
- 18:25Speaker 4: older player. They need youth. They need young guys who
- 18:29Speaker 4: can step in and be the future of this thing
- 18:31Speaker 4: before too long. I'm a little bit concerned about the
- 18:34Speaker 4: lack of depth on the inside because I love Shatley.
- 18:36Speaker 3: He's been here a long.
- 18:37Speaker 5: Time, but you know he's here, he's for a long time,
- 18:41Speaker 5: and so they need.
- 18:42Speaker 4: Young guys who can play inside and they may be
- 18:46Speaker 4: looking for more of those.
- 18:47Speaker 5: Yeah, I think they're in really good shape. On the outside.
- 18:51Speaker 6: I think a huge I mean it's one of the
- 18:53Speaker 6: storylines of training camp. Are they deep on the interior?
- 18:57Speaker 5: Do they like fordn Er? Do they like Schett? Who's
- 19:00Speaker 5: the guy beyond those top three? I think it's a
- 19:03Speaker 5: major story on.
- 19:03Speaker 4: Fortner and Chattley are okay pieces right, And I say
- 19:07Speaker 4: that with respect.
- 19:07Speaker 3: I don't mean it to be that way, but Hodges
- 19:09Speaker 3: is the guy with the.
- 19:10Speaker 4: Breakthrough potential, the strength and the ability to play that
- 19:13Speaker 4: they need more of those. Fortner and Chattley were here
- 19:16Speaker 4: last year, they were okay. They haven't gotten better. You
- 19:20Speaker 4: need Hodges to get better at depth, and we know
- 19:22Speaker 4: that the.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Team is high on Cooper Hodges.
- 19:24Speaker 5: Hopefully we'll keep an.

- 22:57Speaker 2: we're going to do a little bit of a prediction.
- 22:58Speaker 2: We're gonna do he will, he won't, he might? And
- 23:01Speaker 2: some of the new faces around here some more familiar
- 23:04Speaker 2: than others. Mind's a little more familiar.
- 23:05Speaker 5: But who are you going to do?
- 23:06Speaker 2: He will, he won't, he might?
- 23:07Speaker 5: Refray, I'll go with Dave Davis.
- 23:09Speaker 4: And I really liked the signing theoretically when they put
- 23:11Speaker 4: the name to paper in March. I like it more
- 23:14Speaker 4: in actuality. Watching him on the practice field, I think
- 23:17Speaker 4: he will be a guy that will benefit from all
- 23:20Speaker 4: the weapons on the field. Brian Thomas is going to
- 23:22Speaker 4: split safeties, and you've got Christian Kirk who's probably the
- 23:25Speaker 4: number one target in Evan Ingram. There are a lot
- 23:27Speaker 4: of different places to go with the ball. How are
- 23:29Speaker 4: you going to carver this big wide receiver who can
- 23:31Speaker 4: run all the rounds right? He can do anything you
- 23:33Speaker 4: want perimeter, middle, doesn't matter, deep, short. He is a
- 23:37Speaker 4: complete football player, and he's a guy that's going to
- 23:39Speaker 4: be an X factor. Now he won't come in and
- 23:42Speaker 4: I don't think be a guy who's nady catch twelve
- 23:45Speaker 4: hundred yard guy. I just I don't see him being
- 23:47Speaker 4: that kind of fact or even maybe he's a Jones
- 23:49Speaker 4: numbers from a couple of seasons ago. But he might
- 23:52Speaker 4: be the guy who scores the most touchdowns amongst this
- 23:55Speaker 4: wide receiver corps because he's a big body and he
- 23:58Speaker 4: is so nimble in the red zone. That's how they
- 24:01Speaker 4: used him in Buffalo. He is experienced at it. He's
- 24:04Speaker 4: got great hands and size, and I think when you're
- 24:07Speaker 4: looking at Christian Kirk and all these other weapons, I
- 24:09Speaker 4: think Gay Davis is one of those guys. He's going
- 24:11Speaker 4: to get mismatches one on one and be able to
- 24:13Speaker 4: take an advantage of him.
- 24:16Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree. I went with Brian Thomas Jr.
- 24:21Speaker 6: He will matter And when I think about rookies, experience
- 24:25Speaker 6: has taught me not think in terms of statistics because
- 24:28Speaker 6: it's so circumstantial.
- 24:30Speaker 5: They're probably not going to be go to guys.
- 24:32Speaker 6: But I think he's going to be a guy who
- 24:34Speaker 6: finds a way to impact the game and therefore stretch defenses,
- 24:37Speaker 6: help on offense this year, and if he's that, then
- 24:40Speaker 6: all of a sudden, this team is a lot more dangerous.
- 24:43Speaker 6: He won't necessarily be rushed in, but meaning he won't
- 24:48Speaker 6: have to wait for his opportunity. I don't know that
- 24:51Speaker 6: he's going to be the go to guy early, but
- 24:54Speaker 6: it's clear from training camp that they are working him,
- 24:57Speaker 6: they expect him to matter very much.
- 25:00Speaker 5: He's not got to wait for.
- 25:00Speaker 6: His opportunity, and he might be better than I thought
- 25:04Speaker 6: he was going to be this season.
- 25:05Speaker 5: Meaning I never.
- 25:08Speaker 6: Expect anything out of rookies, especially rookie wide receivers, but
- 25:12Speaker 6: I have a feeling by the end of the season,
- 25:15Speaker 6: he looks to me. It's hard to explain, but watching
- 25:19Speaker 6: him run, watching him play, he looks a little more
- 25:24Speaker 6: like he belongs early than I would normally expect that
- 25:27Speaker 6: out of a rookie wide receiver. So I think his
- 25:29Speaker 6: acclamation process by the second half the season, you may
- 25:34Speaker 6: start feeling him as a go.
- 25:36Speaker 5: To a little more than you would normally see as
- 25:38Speaker 5: a rookie wide receiver.
- 25:40Speaker 7: You know.
- 25:40Speaker 3: I think here's an interesting angle.
- 25:42Speaker 4: He's going to dramatically improve third down conversions, and not
- 25:46Speaker 4: necessarily because he's down the field, but because he's down
- 25:49Speaker 4: the field, safeties are going to be away from the
- 25:50Speaker 4: line of scrimmage. They're going to be able to have
- 25:54Speaker 4: better one on one matchups for the offensive lineman and
- 25:57Speaker 4: not a crowded box. Because Seven's ability to go vertical.
- 26:01Speaker 4: We'll keep people looking at him. I mean, if you don't,
- 26:05Speaker 4: he's behind you, right. I think he is going to
- 26:08Speaker 4: have a sneaky impact on their running game, and not
- 26:11Speaker 4: because he's out there blocking wide receivers, but because he
- 26:14Speaker 4: is moving defensive backs backwards from the line of scream.
- 26:17Speaker 5: Yeah, he may not have.
- 26:17Speaker 6: Huge stats, but I think coordinators are gonna know we
- 26:20Speaker 6: have to account for this.
- 26:22Speaker 5: Or he's going to beat us deep. So we have
- 26:25Speaker 5: to at least make sure we take it away.
- 26:26Speaker 4: And by the way, lshu's offensive coordinator, Cortes Hankkon I
- 26:29Speaker 4: mentioned this friend talk to him when we were in Detroit,
- 26:33Speaker 4: and I'll echo those words one more time for you.
- 26:36Speaker 4: Of all the LSU receivers, this guy's physical skills are
- 26:39Speaker 4: about as good as he's ever seen.
- 26:41Speaker 2: It's exciting, promising news, very exciting. I went to the
- 26:44Speaker 2: defensive side of the ball for mine. I'm gonna do
- 26:46Speaker 2: Tyson Campbell recently paid. He will make everybody thankful. I
- 26:50Speaker 2: think this year that the contract had done before the year.
- 26:53Speaker 2: You don't want to go into a contract year with
- 26:54Speaker 2: the corner because if he stays healthy and plays the
- 26:56Speaker 2: way that we think he is going to play, he
- 26:58Speaker 2: would have gotten a lot more money in the off season.
- 27:00Speaker 2: So I think it's good that they locked him up
- 27:02Speaker 2: long term before the season started. He won't be I
- 27:05Speaker 2: don't think affected by the money in the sense that
- 27:07Speaker 2: he's not going to be as competitive. I see him
- 27:09Speaker 2: out there on these days as hot as anything, and
- 27:12Speaker 2: we're finally in the dog days of summer, and other
- 27:14Speaker 2: than joking right there, he's about as competitive as it gets.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Specifically on those one on one drills. He's not trying
- 27:18Speaker 2: to get beat by anybody. But that's what you want
- 27:20Speaker 2: to see on the defensive side of the ball, essentially
- 27:22Speaker 2: from a leader, and your shutdown corner is going to
- 27:24Speaker 2: be facing the number one receiver on every team that
- 27:26Speaker 2: they face, and he might very well kind of get
- 27:29Speaker 2: into national contention. I don't know if it's a Pro
- 27:30Speaker 2: Bowl or what, but if he stays healthy and can
- 27:32Speaker 2: play and takes on some of the shuts down some
- 27:34Speaker 2: of these receivers, he'll get some more national play and
- 27:36Speaker 2: some understanding. Other people will be able to see what
- 27:38Speaker 2: we've seen from him in the last couple of years.
- 27:40Speaker 4: On Tuesday, Christian Kirkley's at the podium after practice and said,
- 27:43Speaker 4: the thing about him is he's got deceptive speed. You
- 27:46Speaker 4: don't look at him and think he's necessarily a guy
- 27:48Speaker 4: who can fly down the field, but he can't.
- 27:50Speaker 6: You love paying guys like Tyson because he's not whatever's
- 27:54Speaker 6: in there, he's going to get out in terms of
- 27:57Speaker 6: his ability. You don't have to worry about him not
- 28:00Speaker 6: wanting to be as good as he can be.
- 28:01Speaker 2: And one of your homegrown guys. Nice to keep them
- 28:03Speaker 2: in town. Stay with us here on Jacksam. We'll talk

- 31:44Speaker 5: We hope to see you there. Welcome back into Jagsam.
- 31:51Speaker 2: Obviously, we've talked a ton about that physicality. We've got
- 31:53Speaker 2: a practice in the stadium coming up on Saturday, which
- 31:56Speaker 2: is going to be something to see if it's up
- 31:58Speaker 2: to one hundred, like they think it might be one degree,
- 32:01Speaker 2: it could get hot I think this weekend, so we'll
- 32:04Speaker 2: see how inside the stadium. We certainly know that what
- 32:07Speaker 2: are you looking for in terms of like, obviously the
- 32:09Speaker 2: competition every single time, but just also we saw it
- 32:12Speaker 2: get a little testy at times, a little I wouldn't
- 32:14Speaker 2: call it full out fights, but move some tussles and stuff.
- 32:16Speaker 5: Getting that competent.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Is it just maintaining that competition level as things keep going.
- 32:20Speaker 4: Yeah, maintaining an intensity level even if you're not you know,
- 32:23Speaker 4: in full pads. Okay, Right, that edge that we've talked
- 32:27Speaker 4: about this week about about gaining it, about keeping it.
- 32:30Speaker 4: It's important to know when to turn it on and
- 32:32Speaker 4: turn it off. It's a young team with some veteran help.
- 32:34Speaker 4: Let's let's get to that point where they know when
- 32:36Speaker 4: it's time to play.
- 32:37Speaker 5: Yeah, keep it balanced.
- 32:38Speaker 6: And I think this team, it is a young team,
- 32:41Speaker 6: but guys like Trevor Travis DTN Christian Kirk. All these
- 32:45Speaker 6: guys have played together for three years now, there is
- 32:47Speaker 6: a thirty year going in, so I think they know
- 32:50Speaker 6: how to balance and my senses with these mid veterans
- 32:54Speaker 6: meaning Christian Kirk seventh year, these guys know how to
- 32:58Speaker 6: keep the.
- 32:58Speaker 5: Balance and they know how they need to prepare to
- 33:01Speaker 5: be their best. I anticipate that not being an issue.
- 33:03Speaker 4: Like guys like Gabe Davis, Mitch Morris, and Eric Armstead
- 33:08Speaker 4: are guys who have played deep into the playoffs, right
- 33:12Speaker 4: it's about them getting this team sharpened up enough to
- 33:15Speaker 4: know we got to play in big games because, as
- 33:17Speaker 4: I've said over and over, they didn't play well in
- 33:19Speaker 4: big games last year.
- 33:20Speaker 5: Big a couple of days coming up.
- 33:21Speaker 2: You can head to that stadium practice on Saturday. If
- 33:23Speaker 2: you want to attend as a fan, head online at
- 33:25Speaker 2: Jaguars dot com check that out. If not, we'll be

- 33:29Speaker 2: for you. Have a great weekend.
