- 2:08Speaker 4: Not tomorrow night. It's going to be tonight. We've got
- 2:10Speaker 4: the Great Race going on. So many things going on.
- 2:13Speaker 4: It's even confusing to Jim Strong what day is this day?
- 2:16Speaker 4: Because Strawn walked in the studio and said, wait, why
- 2:19Speaker 4: am I on?
- 2:19Speaker 7: Now?
- 2:20Speaker 4: Aren't we going to talk to Angie from the Humane Association? First?
- 2:23Speaker 4: I said, the month is this? That's on Friday? Where
- 2:26Speaker 4: am I?
- 2:27Speaker 8: Jim Dave, good morning, Oh my gosh, this is the
- 2:30Speaker 8: oddest thing ever for me. I mean, twenty two years
- 2:32Speaker 8: of live on a levee, this is our first and
- 2:34Speaker 8: this is our first only one we've ever done Thursday night.
- 2:37Speaker 8: So really I'm just saying this good way get the
- 2:39Speaker 8: weekend started, and if you'd like to get it started
- 2:41Speaker 8: today early, now's your opportunity.
- 2:43Speaker 4: And who do we have with us here?
- 2:44Speaker 8: We have a couple of members of the Charlie West
- 2:47Speaker 8: All Stars. They're going to be taking center stage. Then
- 2:49Speaker 8: it had ed Riverfront Park on the show and Bomb
- 2:52Speaker 8: Stage at seven thirty. They're part of the Charlie West
- 2:55Speaker 8: All Stars who will be playing from seven thirty till nine.
- 2:58Speaker 8: So we have shay Lett Leftridge and brand the Odell.
- 3:00Speaker 8: I'll let you talk with them a little bit later
- 3:03Speaker 8: about their music and how they got together and what
- 3:05Speaker 8: they're all about it.
- 3:06Speaker 9: There are really.
- 3:06Speaker 8: Special tributes tonight to our veterans. Not only is it
- 3:09Speaker 8: the Great Races in town, but we're honoring our veterans tonight.
- 3:13Speaker 8: I know many of us are very proud in this state,
- 3:15Speaker 8: and in this valley and in this city to honor
- 3:18Speaker 8: our veterans. So the Charlie West All Stars, I'll let
- 3:20Speaker 8: Shyla talk a little bit about their backdrop with the Veterans.
- 3:24Speaker 8: They did a nice album about ten years ago. But
- 3:27Speaker 8: this is season twenty one. It is week number four.
- 3:30Speaker 8: I don't know what day it is, but it's week
- 3:32Speaker 8: number four of the Moses Auto Group Live on the Levee,
- 3:35Speaker 8: brought to you by our good friends here in the
- 3:37Speaker 8: city of Charleston. They do a nice job, and you've
- 3:40Speaker 8: mentioned even though it's a Thursday, there's still a lot
- 3:42Speaker 8: going on. This Great Race is pretty fun. So the
- 3:45Speaker 8: Great Race will be coming into town, you know, four
- 3:47Speaker 8: four thirty five, kind of right before the Levee starts
- 3:51Speaker 8: their regular schedule. It's a regular schedule music night tonight.
- 3:54Speaker 8: So at six o'clock, our good friend Joey Simington we'll
- 3:58Speaker 8: be taking center stage and he's with face Back Value,
- 4:00Speaker 8: Face Value tribute to Phil Collins. So if you love
- 4:03Speaker 8: Phil Collins and you love that killer big sound, who
- 4:06Speaker 8: doesn't love Phil Collins, Shay and Joey does a great.
- 4:08Speaker 4: Sobody texted the show about that yesterday and said, that's
- 4:11Speaker 4: a crime that he's not in the Rock and Roll
- 4:13Speaker 4: Hall of Fame. Well, I thought he's not not as
- 4:15Speaker 4: a solo artist. That's what I was told. I didn't
- 4:17Speaker 4: research that.
- 4:18Speaker 8: Yeah, So that's at six o'clock, and then we'll take
- 4:20Speaker 8: a little break, do some announcement, throws some East Coast
- 4:23Speaker 8: ts T shirts up into the stand Live on Levy
- 4:26Speaker 8: T shirts, and we'll have a few announcements, and then
- 4:28Speaker 8: Shala and Brandy and the whole group from the Charlie
- 4:31Speaker 8: West All Stars will take center stage at seven point
- 4:34Speaker 8: thirty and I'll let that be a segway.
- 4:36Speaker 4: David, all Right, I want to know what does Tony
- 4:37Speaker 4: the Taylor have to do with this? Is what I want?
- 4:39Speaker 10: Speaking of Tony Taylor, listen, Birthday, Tony, Happy birthday buddy.
- 4:44Speaker 10: He is been instrumental in this band. So we've been
- 4:48Speaker 10: rehearsing with them. Yeah, you like that he's been instrumental. Seriously,
- 4:53Speaker 10: he helps us so much, does he not? He provides food.
- 4:56Speaker 10: He you know, could always sew up my pants if
- 4:58Speaker 10: something crazy happened.
- 5:01Speaker 4: He sent me, and I talked about this in the
- 5:02Speaker 4: show yesterday. He sent me a clip of I guess
- 5:04Speaker 4: rehearsal and it was you guys, and you were doing
- 5:07Speaker 4: whipping post and oh yeah, that is my favorite all
- 5:11Speaker 4: my brothers.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Is it really?
- 5:12Speaker 10: I love whipping posts? But I got to tell you, Tony,
- 5:14Speaker 10: I asked, I asked, everybody, send me just a little
- 5:16Speaker 10: short bio. You know, Tony says, Tony the Taylor amateur
- 5:21Speaker 10: tambourine and backing vocals.
- 5:23Speaker 4: There you go.
- 5:23Speaker 10: So I just want to let y'all know that Tony.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Is more than a tailor.
- 5:27Speaker 4: There you go.
- 5:28Speaker 10: He's also a tiger.
- 5:29Speaker 4: He could be the tambourine Tony, Tony the tambourine shaker. Randy,
- 5:36Speaker 4: what do you do with these people?
- 5:39Speaker 9: I asked her this all the time.
- 5:40Speaker 11: I ask myself that too. No, just kidding, It's a
- 5:43Speaker 11: great time.
- 5:44Speaker 3: I love it.
- 5:45Speaker 4: Talk about your musical background. I mean, how did you
- 5:47Speaker 4: get involved in all this?
- 5:49Speaker 11: H Well, the lovely miss Chela so graciously asked me
- 5:53Speaker 11: to join, and I appreciate that so much. I have
- 5:58Speaker 11: sang all my life, but I haven't really been on
- 6:00Speaker 11: the scene for quite some time, several years. But I
- 6:04Speaker 11: did start a band with my husband called the Wilson Project.
- 6:08Speaker 11: We've been playing around town, so we're kind of back
- 6:11Speaker 11: on the scene and we're excited about that.
- 6:14Speaker 4: So how long? What what was it that led you
- 6:16Speaker 4: to want to do music to begin with? I mean
- 6:18Speaker 4: back in the day.
- 6:19Speaker 11: I don't know. I just came out singing.
- 6:23Speaker 10: It's just the way it was.
- 6:24Speaker 4: What about what about you shl what was a good?
- 6:26Speaker 10: I mean, I've been singing all my life. My mother sang,
- 6:28Speaker 10: my father sang. You know, we come from a very
- 6:31Speaker 10: musical family, and as you know, black church, everybody's gonna
- 6:34Speaker 10: sing so and it's it's interesting because I do have
- 6:38Speaker 10: a step dad who is probably, you know, just the
- 6:42Speaker 10: oddest combination, you know, to go with me, because I
- 6:45Speaker 10: have my mom who loves gospel and my dad who
- 6:48Speaker 10: loved R and B. And my stepdad who is an
- 6:50Speaker 10: old white hippie from California. So he had me singing
- 6:53Speaker 10: rock music since I was too, and so I have
- 6:55Speaker 10: this such eclectic mix and that's why you can see
- 6:58Speaker 10: me anywhere singing with anybody.
- 7:00Speaker 3: And I've been seeing.
- 7:01Speaker 4: It, and that's a great description of her day, eclectic.
- 7:04Speaker 11: I liked it.
- 7:05Speaker 8: I think we think she has direcord for playing on
- 7:08Speaker 8: the live on the Levy stage down at Schoenbomb Stage.
- 7:11Speaker 4: It had to under her front park.
- 7:12Speaker 8: We believe she's been on the stage a little bit
- 7:15Speaker 8: more than me, but not by but not by much.
- 7:18Speaker 8: She's been on probably over twenty times with various bands,
- 7:22Speaker 8: Hybrid Soul and US, Floyd and Shy and Charlie West
- 7:26Speaker 8: All Stars and the list, Bob Thompson, the list goes
- 7:29Speaker 8: on and on. Shela can sing, she can sing at all.
- 7:32Speaker 8: She does it excellent and brilliantly. And I'm glad Brandy's
- 7:35Speaker 8: coming along tonight. The Charlie West All Stars. Talking about
- 7:37Speaker 8: how many members it will be on the stage.
- 7:39Speaker 10: Gosh, honestly can't count how many people there are. But
- 7:42Speaker 10: basically the Charlie West All Star started about ten years ago.
- 7:45Speaker 10: Richard Alderson, who is a native came in. He lives
- 7:48Speaker 10: in Nashville. Now, he's been really heavy in the music
- 7:51Speaker 10: scene there as well as here. Ten years ago, he
- 7:53Speaker 10: wanted to put together a group of who he felt
- 7:56Speaker 10: at the time were kind of some of the best
- 7:58Speaker 10: of the best here in Charleston. So they either had
- 8:00Speaker 10: to be from Charleston or living in Charleston to be
- 8:03Speaker 10: in this band. And we put together an album, and
- 8:06Speaker 10: this is our ten year anniversary of that album. We
- 8:08Speaker 10: raised tens of thousands of dollars to benefit veterans. We
- 8:11Speaker 10: donated one hundred percent of the proceeds of that album
- 8:14Speaker 10: two veterans services, different various veteran services, and it was
- 8:19Speaker 10: a labor of love. Everyone that was in the band
- 8:21Speaker 10: is either a veteran or they're closely connected to a veteran.
- 8:24Speaker 10: I've got a brother that's a veteran. My father's a
- 8:26Speaker 10: Marine Corps veteran. So it was something that was near
- 8:28Speaker 10: and dear to all of us. And Richard had founded
- 8:31Speaker 10: a Soldier Song which was in Nashville and it was
- 8:34Speaker 10: doing a lot of things for veterans as well. So
- 8:36Speaker 10: when we wanted to revamp it this year, and they said, hey,
- 8:40Speaker 10: it's ten year universally, let's do something I said, well,
- 8:42Speaker 10: everybody isn't here anymore, but let's get some more of
- 8:44Speaker 10: the best of the best. And that's how we brought
- 8:45Speaker 10: in Brandy and of course Tony are our best tambourine
- 8:48Speaker 10: player ever.
- 8:49Speaker 11: Of course.
- 8:51Speaker 9: Got involved.
- 8:52Speaker 10: But there's over twelve people involved in this project. There's
- 8:56Speaker 10: a lot of us and every last one of us
- 8:58Speaker 10: has been doing this for a long time and one
- 9:00Speaker 10: capacity or another, and we love veterans and that's while
- 9:02Speaker 10: we're here.
- 9:03Speaker 4: All right, sounds good? Now, this is a regular live
- 9:05Speaker 4: on the levee. It's a regular lives it's Friday night,
- 9:07Speaker 4: but it's Thursday. Yeah, we're not.
- 9:08Speaker 8: There's no live on Levee tomorrow night, folks. So I
- 9:10Speaker 8: hope you guys get the memo on this. This tonight
- 9:12Speaker 8: is tonight, get your weekends started. Six o'clock we have
- 9:16Speaker 8: the Face Value Tribute to Phil Collins. Our friend Joey
- 9:19Speaker 8: will be down there. He'll play from six to seven,
- 9:22Speaker 8: we'll take a little break, throw some t shirts. Seven
- 9:24Speaker 8: thirty to Charlie West All Stars, and throughout the night,
- 9:27Speaker 8: our charity will be doing the fifty to fifty telling
- 9:30Speaker 8: of the tickets, as we've been doing forever since the beginning,
- 9:33Speaker 8: Tom Lane wanted to have great fun for a great cause.
- 9:36Speaker 8: The president of City Council twenty two years ago said hey,
- 9:39Speaker 8: let's do this thing on Friday night. But this was
- 9:41Speaker 8: that was his tagline. It's still the tagline, great fun
- 9:44Speaker 8: for a great cause. We help five inner city charities
- 9:47Speaker 8: each and every Friday and tonight Thursday. We help organizations
- 9:51Speaker 8: that help people that may need a bite to eat
- 9:53Speaker 8: and maybe a place to lay their head at night.
- 9:55Speaker 8: So we help the RCCR folks, the Covenant House folks,
- 9:59Speaker 8: the yews sojournalist folks, Man and Meal and KBC or
- 10:04Speaker 8: KB collective. They really work a lot closely with our veterans.
- 10:08Speaker 8: It's kind of the old work Sulliban LifeWay Center for veterans.
- 10:11Speaker 8: So we're gonna be selling fifty to fifty tickets. Over
- 10:14Speaker 8: the last twenty one seasons we've raised one hundred and
- 10:17Speaker 8: twenty six thousand dollars. Give her take, and then at
- 10:20Speaker 8: nine o'clock, I say all that to say this. The
- 10:22Speaker 8: schedule is a little different this year, but at nine o'clock,
- 10:25Speaker 8: after the last song and the last note of the
- 10:28Speaker 8: Charlie West All Stars, we'll do the fifty to fifty
- 10:30Speaker 8: drawing at that time and so stick around for that.
- 10:34Speaker 8: You need to be present to win that. And also
- 10:37Speaker 8: want to give a special shout out. You know we've
- 10:38Speaker 8: already said it's the Moses Auto Group. This is their
- 10:41Speaker 8: seventeenth or eighteenth year to be our title sponsor for that,
- 10:44Speaker 8: and special thanks to Brewer and Company along with the
- 10:46Speaker 8: Health Plan, PoCA Valley and of course this radio station
- 10:50Speaker 8: and all the folks here at WBrC Media. You guys
- 10:53Speaker 8: have been very kind to help us promote this. I'm
- 10:56Speaker 8: looking for a nice night. I think the weather's going
- 10:58Speaker 8: to break. It still might be a little sticky, but
- 10:59Speaker 8: it's not going to be one hundred degrees. Could be
- 11:01Speaker 8: a nice night for a boat. But there's going to
- 11:04Speaker 8: be great food down there. Stay hydrated, get your bearded bearverage,
- 11:07Speaker 8: then have a water in between. Come down, see the cars,
- 11:11Speaker 8: pay a tribute to our veterans, Sit back, relax, get
- 11:14Speaker 8: a bite, have a pop, and enjoy some great rock
- 11:17Speaker 8: and roll music and really a lot of different music.
- 11:20Speaker 8: It's just going to be a really neat special night
- 11:22Speaker 8: Thursday night in Charleston, West Virginia Day.
- 11:24Speaker 4: And that is tonight, and again, of course the Great
- 11:26Speaker 4: Race is going on and there's some traffic changes as
- 11:28Speaker 4: it pertains to that. Go over to the City of
- 11:29Speaker 4: Charleston's Facebook pages. They always do a good job of
- 11:32Speaker 4: covering it. Ladies. I appreciate you being on the show.
- 11:35Speaker 4: Thanks a long looking forward.
- 11:35Speaker 10: Took for having us, and we look forward to seeing
- 11:38Speaker 10: everybody down there. Don't forget to stay hydrated. It's going
- 11:40Speaker 10: to be hot, but we are going to be ready
- 11:42Speaker 10: to rock, they'll be ready to dance.
- 11:44Speaker 4: Sounds good, all right again. Everything starts tonight at six
- 11:48Speaker 4: with Face Value and then the Charlie Westall Stars will
- 11:50Speaker 4: take the stage after that Thursday night Live on the
- 11:53Speaker 4: Levee first time first, that's hard for me to believe.
- 11:55Speaker 4: It's the first time ever. Ivan.
- 11:57Speaker 8: We've had lots of concerts down there day, but it's
- 11:59Speaker 8: not a live on the la first time. It might
- 12:01Speaker 8: be a multi past, it might be a capitain ceting
- 12:03Speaker 8: biker's bash, it might be this, it might be that.
- 12:06Speaker 4: This first personal one. So looking forward to it and

- 15:18Speaker 4: Good morning, sir, how are you.
- 15:20Speaker 9: Good morning, Dave. Thanks for having me on.
- 15:21Speaker 4: Thank you for being here. I want to talk a
- 15:23Speaker 4: little bit about KRT for a moment. I had Sean Hill,
- 15:26Speaker 4: the director of KRT, on the show the other day
- 15:30Speaker 4: talking about some of the changes there was. I think
- 15:31Speaker 4: one public meeting was already held, and then there's going
- 15:34Speaker 4: to be another one tomorrow at noon at the third
- 15:38Speaker 4: floor of the Canawh County Public Library on Capitol Street,
- 15:41Speaker 4: talk about the changes and all things related to KRT.
- 15:44Speaker 9: Well, let's back up just a little bit.
- 15:45Speaker 14: In fact, anyone who drives around here in Kennwall County,
- 15:49Speaker 14: whether you live here or you're visiting, you've seen the
- 15:51Speaker 14: KRT buses, Okay, and if you've looked into the windows,
- 15:55Speaker 14: they're empty. And that's not necessarily as much as about
- 15:59Speaker 14: the tax payer money being spent to have those buses operate,
- 16:03Speaker 14: but it's also showing a sign that the system today
- 16:07Speaker 14: is failing those who need public transportation. Good point, good point,
- 16:11Speaker 14: and I think that's where these changes are coming from. Okay,
- 16:13Speaker 14: it's not just about finances. Now that's the biggest, one
- 16:16Speaker 14: of the biggest ones for me obviously, But we're spending
- 16:18Speaker 14: taxpayer dollars on a survey that came back instold us
- 16:22Speaker 14: that it's costing taxpayers seventy five up to seventy five
- 16:25Speaker 14: dollars per passenger. That's ridiculous and it's not something we
- 16:30Speaker 14: can continue moving forward. So we've got to be efficient
- 16:32Speaker 14: with government. But we also got to make sure that
- 16:34Speaker 14: efficiency is not just saving money, Dave, it's also making
- 16:37Speaker 14: sure that we're providing the services to everyone and an
- 16:41Speaker 14: equal value. And so I think the new policies, the
- 16:44Speaker 14: new procedures moving forward that Shawn Hill, the director of KRT
- 16:47Speaker 14: and his staff have put forward is going to solve
- 16:50Speaker 14: a lot of those problems financially, but it's going to
- 16:54Speaker 14: be a better, greater service of public transportation here in
- 16:58Speaker 14: Kannall County. And it's something that him and I have
- 17:00Speaker 14: been working on for a couple of years now. Things
- 17:03Speaker 14: when are done right, take time. We're being very cautious
- 17:06Speaker 14: with this, and I think this announcement that these proposers
- 17:10Speaker 14: are going through is going to be something very exciting
- 17:12Speaker 14: for everybody that's abou efficiency.
- 17:14Speaker 4: And I think you and Sean and probably the riders
- 17:17Speaker 4: and taxpayers certainly would agree on that as well.
- 17:20Speaker 9: Absolutely.
- 17:21Speaker 14: You know, the taxpayers put money into these buses and
- 17:24Speaker 14: they're not doing the service they're intended to do, and
- 17:27Speaker 14: so we need to adapt with technology today, and I
- 17:30Speaker 14: think that's what KRT is doing. They're looking at why
- 17:33Speaker 14: are we having these large buses that holds, you know,
- 17:36Speaker 14: can't hold many people that's not doing anything and start
- 17:40Speaker 14: looking at what people are requesting, and that is more
- 17:43Speaker 14: convenience of being picked up from their house and being
- 17:47Speaker 14: taken to the designation that they want to go to,
- 17:49Speaker 14: instead of in this blistering heat walking down to a
- 17:53Speaker 14: bus stop, sitting there sweating, tired, fatigue. Maybe you're an elderly,
- 17:58Speaker 14: you have health problems, heart problem, sitting in that heat,
- 18:01Speaker 14: waiting for a bus to come pick you up and
- 18:03Speaker 14: then stopping thirty forty times before you can get to
- 18:06Speaker 14: your designation. If you want to actually use the buses
- 18:11Speaker 14: and get to somewhere you're trying to go to, you
- 18:13Speaker 14: have to make an advance hours and that could be
- 18:16Speaker 14: doctor's appointments, it could be grocery stores, it could be
- 18:19Speaker 14: going and seeing one of your family members or loved
- 18:21Speaker 14: ones going to work. You know, it's very difficult. With
- 18:24Speaker 14: this new system KRT plus, we're going to make it
- 18:28Speaker 14: more convenience and more cost effective for taxpayers to pick
- 18:32Speaker 14: you up from your designation and get you to where
- 18:35Speaker 14: you want to go.
- 18:36Speaker 4: And I like the way that it's been described you.
- 18:39Speaker 4: We're talking with canog Ant Commissioner Lance Wheeler. It's for
- 18:44Speaker 4: those of you for those people that use ride sharing services.
- 18:46Speaker 4: This is what this new model or the capabilities are
- 18:50Speaker 4: going to be. It's just like that.
- 18:52Speaker 14: Absolutely. Now here's the good thing. So whenever we have
- 18:55Speaker 14: to hire someone for a bus, they have to have
- 18:58Speaker 14: a CDL license and they have to go through the
- 19:00Speaker 14: training and sometimes that can take up to six months
- 19:02Speaker 14: than when I'm told this is not going to require
- 19:06Speaker 14: a CDL license. So we're going to be able to
- 19:08Speaker 14: hire more people, get them opportunities to jobs at KRT,
- 19:12Speaker 14: and they're going to be able to be in a
- 19:14Speaker 14: pasture van that's going to be more cost effective with fuel,
- 19:18Speaker 14: and we're going to be able to pick people up
- 19:20Speaker 14: from their designation when they request it, whether that's through
- 19:22Speaker 14: the app that KRT has put on you go any
- 19:26Speaker 14: smartphone you have, you can go right now and download
- 19:29Speaker 14: KRT Plus.
- 19:31Speaker 9: It's just like Uber, it's just like Lyft.
- 19:33Speaker 14: You put in your address, you tell them where you
- 19:36Speaker 14: want to go, and they will send you live updates
- 19:38Speaker 14: of when they're coming to pick you up and they'll
- 19:40Speaker 14: drop you off where you want. This is still in
- 19:43Speaker 14: a pilot so right now we're looking at expanding the
- 19:46Speaker 14: pilot program from South Charleston to Knall City. But my
- 19:50Speaker 14: goal is eventually to make this to where this is
- 19:54Speaker 14: a county wide operation that anywhere in the county you
- 19:57Speaker 14: can be picked up and taken somewhere through the kart plus.
- 20:00Speaker 4: And as I mentioned, there was one public hearing held
- 20:04Speaker 4: and there will be another one tomorrow. And now were
- 20:06Speaker 4: you at the meeting the other night? Were you able
- 20:08Speaker 4: to attend it?
- 20:08Speaker 9: Unfortunately I was not able to be there for family
- 20:10Speaker 9: issues here.
- 20:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I completely understand that. But so what I know
- 20:15Speaker 4: that that you've checked in with Sean and the people
- 20:17Speaker 4: they're there, what came from that even though you couldn't
- 20:20Speaker 4: be there, which is understandable, We go ahead.
- 20:21Speaker 14: Yeah, what I was told was there was a good
- 20:24Speaker 14: a good turnout, but everyone was asking the right the
- 20:26Speaker 14: right questions.
- 20:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:28Speaker 14: I know a lot of people are a little scared
- 20:29Speaker 14: because maybe you or somebody for the last ten years
- 20:32Speaker 14: have been going to the same bus stop and taking
- 20:34Speaker 14: the same route and you hear that this route may
- 20:37Speaker 14: be changed or eliminated.
- 20:38Speaker 11: Uh.
- 20:39Speaker 14: We want to make sure that people are educated to
- 20:41Speaker 14: know that you don't have to go to that bus
- 20:43Speaker 14: stop anymore, and you don't have to pick a bus
- 20:45Speaker 14: stop that might be not even close of walking distance
- 20:48Speaker 14: to the destination you want to go to. What we're
- 20:51Speaker 14: going to be able to do is take you to
- 20:53Speaker 14: pick you up and directly take you to where you
- 20:55Speaker 14: want in a passenger van. That's cool, that's relaxing, and
- 20:59Speaker 14: it's easy to get in because it's handicap accessible.
- 21:01Speaker 4: And you mentioned that earlier about uh people may maybe
- 21:05Speaker 4: they just got off work. Maybe they're working fast food
- 21:08Speaker 4: or a restaurant or whatever they're doing that makes you
- 21:10Speaker 4: actually sweat, not a job like I have, uh and uh,
- 21:13Speaker 4: then they have to stand outside in this heat and
- 21:16Speaker 4: wait for the bus. I think it's from what I
- 21:19Speaker 4: know about it a commissioner, it sounds like a much
- 21:20Speaker 4: more efficient system.
- 21:21Speaker 14: It absolutely is. I'm very proud of it. And it's
- 21:24Speaker 14: not just the heat. You know, we're thinking about that
- 21:26Speaker 14: now because we're in it. But let's talk about the cold, right,
- 21:28Speaker 14: Let's talk about the snow. And that's when people who
- 21:29Speaker 14: are trying to get to a doctor appointment are immune compromised, right,
- 21:33Speaker 14: and so they're gonna they're going to get sick trying
- 21:36Speaker 14: to go see their doctor for a follow up. This
- 21:38Speaker 14: is going to be a system to where you can
- 21:40Speaker 14: stay in your house. You can wait for the passenger
- 21:42Speaker 14: van to pull up, you get in and it drops
- 21:45Speaker 14: you off at your location. It's very little walking and
- 21:48Speaker 14: it's a lot of trans transportorting, so it's amazing.
- 21:51Speaker 4: Talking to Canah, a handy commissioner Lance We Live to
- 21:53Speaker 4: Dave Allen showing five Eddie Live is brought to you
- 21:55Speaker 4: a part by meex realgy group. Looking for an experience
- 21:57Speaker 4: you can trust Rinch the realtor. It meets one of
- 21:59Speaker 4: the area premier agent specializing in both commercial and residential
- 22:02Speaker 4: real estate. For expert guidance improven results. Contact makes Rich
- 22:07Speaker 4: the reeltor three zero four nine three two seventy four
- 22:09Speaker 4: eighty eight or email our client that's climb with the
- 22:11Speaker 4: k Meekesrealtygroup dot com. You and I were texting back
- 22:14Speaker 4: and forth yesterday of us some things I wanted to
- 22:16Speaker 4: have you on to talk about. One of those you said, lights, flights, lights.
- 22:20Speaker 4: What are we talking about with lights?
- 22:22Speaker 14: Well, we're talking about public safety, public safety, and we're
- 22:24Speaker 14: talking about public safety. And when we talk about the lights,
- 22:26Speaker 14: we talk about the interstates making sure that they're well
- 22:29Speaker 14: lit at night whenever people are driving a lot of times,
- 22:32Speaker 14: you know deer crossings, maybe somebody is broke down on
- 22:36Speaker 14: the side of the road. Maybe a tractor trailer is
- 22:40Speaker 14: driving and he's he's at the end of his shift
- 22:42Speaker 14: and he's getting a little tired. We want to make
- 22:44Speaker 14: sure that the interstate is well lit when it comes
- 22:47Speaker 14: to public safety and people driving. And so what this
- 22:51Speaker 14: kind of commission done, and I talked to CW segment,
- 22:54Speaker 14: our director of Homeland Security had to drive around the
- 22:58Speaker 14: interstate looking at the lights and figuring out which ones
- 23:01Speaker 14: were not working, broken or the lights were burned out,
- 23:04Speaker 14: and we collected a list of those and our intention
- 23:07Speaker 14: is to share those with the Department of Highways, let
- 23:11Speaker 14: them know that these lights need to be repaired, replaced, fixed,
- 23:15Speaker 14: and get those back operable as soon as possible. Because
- 23:18Speaker 14: it doesn't take a rocket scientist, Dave, I don't need
- 23:21Speaker 14: a political science guy to tell me or even a
- 23:24Speaker 14: study to say that you're going to have significally less
- 23:28Speaker 14: accidents when the interstate is well lit verse when it's not.
- 23:32Speaker 9: And so that's what this is.
- 23:34Speaker 14: This commission has always done this every year, and this
- 23:37Speaker 14: is in partnership with Department Highways. They're always very, very
- 23:41Speaker 14: excited when we do this because they have to cover
- 23:43Speaker 14: the entire state and we have the resources to be
- 23:46Speaker 14: able to help them out here in Kannall County.
- 23:49Speaker 9: So we've asked CW to go out.
- 23:51Speaker 14: He's been looking and he did tell me just yesterday
- 23:54Speaker 14: that this is probably the best survey that he's ever done.
- 23:58Speaker 14: There wasn't as many lights out this time as there
- 24:01Speaker 14: was in last year's and that just shows that not
- 24:03Speaker 14: only is this sort of a helping but Department of
- 24:05Speaker 14: Highways is don't what they're supposed to do.
- 24:07Speaker 4: And so the if I'm hearing you correctly, Commissioner, the
- 24:11Speaker 4: lights are actually the responsibility of the Department Highways. But
- 24:16Speaker 4: but you're kind of working with them on this, right,
- 24:18Speaker 4: that's who actually takes care of it.
- 24:19Speaker 14: Yeah, absolutely, this is a Department of Highways responsibility. This
- 24:22Speaker 14: is just something that we do because we want to help. Sure,
- 24:25Speaker 14: it's not something that.
- 24:26Speaker 4: It's always been one of my pet pee's lands, to
- 24:28Speaker 4: be honest with you, because of somebody who I don't
- 24:30Speaker 4: travels much anymore, but somebody who used to travel a
- 24:33Speaker 4: lot our interstates. I mean, I understand if you're on
- 24:35Speaker 4: a back road somewhere, but our interstates should be a
- 24:38Speaker 4: lot more lit than what they are to matter few.
- 24:41Speaker 14: Well, and it goes right back to public safety because
- 24:43Speaker 14: again they're not If they're not lit, you can have
- 24:45Speaker 14: an accident. You can you can prevent an accident with
- 24:48Speaker 14: a well that interstate driving at those those speeds and
- 24:52Speaker 14: then you know, having those hazards on the side.
- 24:54Speaker 15: Of the road.
- 24:55Speaker 14: We want to make sure people are safe whether they
- 24:57Speaker 14: live here in Kanaal County and they're driving from their
- 24:59Speaker 14: designation home, or if they're traveling through from outside of
- 25:03Speaker 14: the county or even outside the state. So this is
- 25:04Speaker 14: about public safety, This is about doing what's right. We
- 25:08Speaker 14: always follow the state code, but just because state code
- 25:11Speaker 14: doesn't tell us to do it, we're still going to
- 25:13Speaker 14: do it because it's what's right to do. And we've
- 25:15Speaker 14: had a great relationship with Department Highways. Usually when we
- 25:17Speaker 14: send this letter to them, they're fixed in no time,
- 25:21Speaker 14: and we're very appreciative of the work that Department Highways
- 25:23Speaker 14: and their staff and their workers do and ensuring this
- 25:27Speaker 14: lights are working.
- 25:28Speaker 4: Talking again with Knoah count Commissioner Lanceweeler, do you want
- 25:30Speaker 4: to remind you the vaccines are your best protection against
- 25:32Speaker 4: severe disease from fluid COVID nineteen. If you're sixty five
- 25:35Speaker 4: of our older risk lass, do more with this season's vaccines.
- 25:37Speaker 4: Get started vaccines dot gov paidpore by the US Department
- 25:41Speaker 4: of Health and Human Services. Stuck some demolition.
- 25:44Speaker 9: Oh this is my favorite. I'm the demolition.
- 25:47Speaker 4: Guy, demolition Lance Wheeler. You love it.
- 25:50Speaker 14: You know how many texts I'll get from people saying, Hey,
- 25:54Speaker 14: I was told you're the demolition commissioner and I got
- 25:57Speaker 14: a property I want you to come look at. This
- 26:00Speaker 14: was something that I actually ran for when I ran
- 26:02Speaker 14: for office in twenty twenty and got into twenty one,
- 26:05Speaker 14: was looking at how we can clean up and keep
- 26:08Speaker 14: our community not just clean, but.
- 26:11Speaker 9: Remove the eye source.
- 26:12Speaker 14: And what you know if you drive through Kennall County
- 26:16Speaker 14: is it doesn't take long for you to find a
- 26:18Speaker 14: dilapidated structure that's a blight in the community and it's
- 26:22Speaker 14: a safety hazard. I mean, you know, back in the
- 26:25Speaker 14: I'd say back in the day, just a couple of
- 26:27Speaker 14: years ago, you couldn't turn on the news without seeing
- 26:29Speaker 14: a vacant fire story on. And you know it's not
- 26:32Speaker 14: just necessarily vacant fire, but it's the resources that are
- 26:36Speaker 14: firefighters are paramedics, our police officers had to use to
- 26:40Speaker 14: go to that scene to take care of it.
- 26:42Speaker 9: It was the.
- 26:43Speaker 14: Damage that was caused from the home, you know, the
- 26:46Speaker 14: beautiful home that maybe just put on brand new siding
- 26:48Speaker 14: the other you know, the other month, and now that
- 26:50Speaker 14: signing is damaged because the fire. The heat from the
- 26:53Speaker 14: fire has just melted it away. Maybe it's the property
- 26:56Speaker 14: values that have decreased in a nice little community because
- 26:59Speaker 14: one proper owner did not take care of a property
- 27:02Speaker 14: and they let it get to a point to where
- 27:03Speaker 14: it's uninhabitable and it's falling in on itself. So we
- 27:08Speaker 14: made the initiative of moving forward with our demolition and
- 27:10Speaker 14: saying how can we do better? And I'm proud to
- 27:13Speaker 14: say these results are showing. I mean, we've done over
- 27:15Speaker 14: two hundred and fifty demolitions county wide. And when you
- 27:19Speaker 14: think about a demolition of a laptate structure, you got
- 27:21Speaker 14: to talk about not just the contractor of getting it
- 27:24Speaker 14: demolished and removing the debris, but you got to do
- 27:26Speaker 14: the asbestos testing. You've got to remove the asbestos before
- 27:29Speaker 14: the demolition. These can get costly, but the fact that
- 27:32Speaker 14: we were able to get over two hundred and fifty
- 27:34Speaker 14: at this point is a testament to the hard work
- 27:36Speaker 14: of the Kennall County Commission, our Planning and Development.
- 27:39Speaker 9: Staff, and we're moving forward with this.
- 27:41Speaker 14: I mean, we were lucky and very appreciative that the
- 27:44Speaker 14: state legislature had two years ago appropriated thirty million dollars statewide.
- 27:49Speaker 14: We made the announcement that we've we're up to one
- 27:52Speaker 14: point five million, the largest amount from that from that bucket.
- 27:57Speaker 14: Because of the hard work and the progress that we've made,
- 28:00Speaker 14: we've showed that we can do the results, and so
- 28:02Speaker 14: we're moving forward. And I just wanted to come on
- 28:04Speaker 14: here and remind everyone that we still have money to spend.
- 28:08Speaker 14: We have a long list as it is right now,
- 28:11Speaker 14: but Kennall County is nine hundred and eleven square miles
- 28:14Speaker 14: of area, and we do not have the resources that
- 28:17Speaker 14: have con enforcements driving through every holler, every street looking
- 28:23Speaker 14: for these and so we rely on referrals from our
- 28:27Speaker 14: constituents to say, Hey, I live in a neighborhood and
- 28:30Speaker 14: there is a building next to me that's falling in.
- 28:33Speaker 9: I would like for the Kanall County Commission to come out.
- 28:35Speaker 14: Look at it, do the process, work with the property
- 28:38Speaker 14: owner if we can and get this thing removed as
- 28:41Speaker 14: a public safety hazard and as a nuisance to the area.
- 28:44Speaker 4: And how do they do that. I'm living in I
- 28:46Speaker 4: don't know feel in name now, living in St. Albans
- 28:48Speaker 4: right now, and there's a building, there's an old home
- 28:50Speaker 4: and it's falling into disrepair. What's the process, like, how
- 28:53Speaker 4: does that work?
- 28:54Speaker 14: You can call our Planning and Development at the Kennall
- 28:56Speaker 14: kunt Of Commission that phone numbers three oh four three
- 28:59Speaker 14: five seven zero five seven zero, or you can contact
- 29:02Speaker 14: my office anytime. Just called the Knell County Commission hotline,
- 29:05Speaker 14: ask for megann e Step my assistant, and she'll get.
- 29:08Speaker 9: You taken care of.
- 29:09Speaker 14: Or as everyone else does, you can find me on
- 29:12Speaker 14: social media or find my cell phone number out there
- 29:15Speaker 14: which everybody has these days, and just let me know
- 29:18Speaker 14: and I'll get with it and we'll see what we
- 29:20Speaker 14: can do to get that property taken care of. But
- 29:23Speaker 14: you know, it does take time. We there's a process.
- 29:25Speaker 14: There's a due process togeah.
- 29:27Speaker 4: There's a long process.
- 29:28Speaker 9: There is, and a lot of people think we can
- 29:30Speaker 9: just come the next day.
- 29:31Speaker 4: Now, it's not how it works.
- 29:32Speaker 14: And if somebody's living there, we don't move forward with this.
- 29:35Speaker 14: We're not kicking gramm All out because we're judging the
- 29:37Speaker 14: way that she lives. That's not what this program is.
- 29:40Speaker 14: This program is this is uninhabitable. Maybe it was a
- 29:43Speaker 14: structure that had structural damage, it's falling in on fire
- 29:46Speaker 14: or some maybe it was a fire. Absolutely, but what
- 29:48Speaker 14: we have noticed is that we've seen a decrease since
- 29:51Speaker 14: this program started. We've seen a decrease of over one
- 29:54Speaker 14: hundred and sixty percent decrease in vacant fires by now
- 29:58Speaker 14: on one calls. Shows that this program is working because
- 30:01Speaker 14: we're getting rid of these laptase structures before they can
- 30:04Speaker 14: become a nuisance in the area. But we want to
- 30:07Speaker 14: keep moving. We know there's more structures out there that
- 30:11Speaker 14: need to be removed, and we also want to make
- 30:13Speaker 14: sure that everyone knows we do have a grant program.
- 30:16Speaker 14: If you're a property owner of one of these, maybe
- 30:18Speaker 14: you inherited it from a family member. Maybe this is
- 30:20Speaker 14: a property you bought because it's right next to you
- 30:23Speaker 14: and you want to make it extend your yard, but
- 30:26Speaker 14: you don't have.
- 30:26Speaker 9: The funds to be able to get this demolished.
- 30:28Speaker 14: Our grant program will do a fifty to fifty split,
- 30:31Speaker 14: so we will pay fifty percent of the demolition, you
- 30:34Speaker 14: pay the other fifty percent, and there's no lian put
- 30:36Speaker 14: on to the property. And we're able to actually move
- 30:39Speaker 14: those quicker because there is no due process, it's voluntary.
- 30:42Speaker 14: We can get that done sometimes within four five months,
- 30:45Speaker 14: depending on our contractor.
- 30:47Speaker 4: That's awesome. We have a texture before we let you go,
- 30:49Speaker 4: So is who do I contact or report a culvert
- 30:51Speaker 4: being blocked?
- 30:52Speaker 14: The same phone number that's going to be three oh
- 30:54Speaker 14: four three five seven zero five seven zero.
- 30:58Speaker 9: That's our planning and development.
- 31:00Speaker 14: They will get a code enforcement officer out there, and
- 31:03Speaker 14: obviously you can give my office a call too, and
- 31:05Speaker 14: I'll make sure that I follow up on it and
- 31:07Speaker 14: we'll find out, you know, if it's blocked, who's responsible,
- 31:10Speaker 14: and we'll get it cleared because we want to make
- 31:12Speaker 14: sure these culverts are cleared up, because I think that's
- 31:14Speaker 14: going to be a big detern of making sure that
- 31:17Speaker 14: there's no there's reducing flooding news in the county.
- 31:21Speaker 4: That's what we have a lot. It's not river flooding
- 31:23Speaker 4: anything like that. It's usually storm drains and things of
- 31:26Speaker 4: that nature. KNA County Commissioner Lance Wheler. I appreciate you

- 34:39Speaker 4: to the office of Senator Shelley Moore Capito in the
- 34:41Speaker 4: United bilding downtown Charleston. Six people arrested, including two Charleston
- 34:45Speaker 4: City council people. One of those council members arrest was
- 34:48Speaker 4: Beth Kerns, who represents Ward seven, and she joins us
- 34:51Speaker 4: in the studio this morning. Council person, welcome to the show.
- 34:54Speaker 3: Thank you so much for having me.
- 34:56Speaker 4: Absolutely. And also another not a non counsel person was
- 34:59Speaker 4: Morgan Fowler, and she joins us on the phone right now. Morgan,
- 35:04Speaker 4: welcome to the show. Thanks for being here.
- 35:06Speaker 19: Yeah, David really appreciates you for having us.
- 35:08Speaker 4: All Right, so I'll let since Beth, I'm looking at
- 35:10Speaker 4: you right now, Morgan will go to you momentarily. What
- 35:14Speaker 4: is your major issue with the Big Beautiful Bill?
- 35:17Speaker 3: How what's going to affect the majority or West Virginia
- 35:21Speaker 3: families And we need to take care of our West
- 35:24Speaker 3: Virginia families and ought be so concerned about the billionaires
- 35:28Speaker 3: that this bill will benefit, and I'm just concerned about
- 35:33Speaker 3: the devastation it's going to happen to so many people's
- 35:36Speaker 3: medical care and then their nutrition and food through the
- 35:39Speaker 3: SNAP program.
- 35:41Speaker 4: All right, Morgan, I'll let you answer that. What that's
- 35:44Speaker 4: got you concerned probably along the same lines, but go ahead.
- 35:48Speaker 19: Yeah, I mean, I agree with everything that Best said,
- 35:50Speaker 19: But in addition to that, I'm a mother to a
- 35:53Speaker 19: daughter who's relying up on Medicaid coverage. My aunt relies
- 35:57Speaker 19: on Medicaid coverage for her life. She is a stroke survivor.
- 36:01Speaker 19: She does not meet the requirements for Medicare, and by
- 36:04Speaker 19: cutting her Medicaid it would literally be a deffentence to her.
- 36:08Speaker 19: And so on top of everything at Best said, this
- 36:10Speaker 19: really like personally hits home to me.
- 36:12Speaker 4: What did you, Morgan? What did you hope to accomplish
- 36:15Speaker 4: with the protest yesterday?
- 36:19Speaker 20: Yeah?
- 36:19Speaker 19: I mean we tried the polite route. We called, we emailed,
- 36:22Speaker 19: we asked for meetings. We got no response. So we
- 36:24Speaker 19: went to her office yesterday peacefully requesting to meet with
- 36:27Speaker 19: her staff. We were told that Senator Capito was not available.
- 36:31Speaker 19: We were amenable to meet with her staff to express
- 36:34Speaker 19: our concerns to them. And relay that message to Senator Capito,
- 36:37Speaker 19: but instead of choosing to meet with us, they had
- 36:40Speaker 19: us arrested.
- 36:42Speaker 4: Rethew want to follow up on that right.
- 36:44Speaker 3: In addition to trying to get the attention of the Senator,
- 36:47Speaker 3: we also wanted to raise awareness to the West Virginia
- 36:51Speaker 3: people about what is going on. So many people don't
- 36:55Speaker 3: realize what's going to happen in this bill, and so
- 36:58Speaker 3: this was a wake up call for a lot of
- 37:00Speaker 3: folks in our state as well. I just think it's deplorable.
- 37:05Speaker 3: As a city councilor I take calls from constituents, text messages, emails, letters, whatever,
- 37:13Speaker 3: and I respond to each and every single one of them.
- 37:16Speaker 3: Not always is a result that they need or want
- 37:19Speaker 3: because of the laws, but I respond to every single
- 37:22Speaker 3: person that reaches out to me. That's the least the
- 37:25Speaker 3: Senator can do. She needs to listen to the people
- 37:27Speaker 3: of West Virginia. We are the ones that she works for.
- 37:32Speaker 4: Have you also, again we're focusing this on Senator Capitol,
- 37:37Speaker 4: but have you also attempted to contact Senator Justice as well?
- 37:41Speaker 4: I haven't.
- 37:41Speaker 3: No, O, Well, I have called his office and I
- 37:44Speaker 3: get if I get anything, it's her recording. Sometimes you
- 37:48Speaker 3: don't even get that.
- 37:49Speaker 4: Okay, I don't know. I mean possibly, I know Senator
- 37:52Speaker 4: Mansin had had an office in Charleston, I'm not I'm
- 37:54Speaker 4: sure that the Senator Justice has won as well. So
- 37:58Speaker 4: not in Charleston, he didn't have one in Okay, okay,
- 38:01Speaker 4: So what has the response been, a counselwoman? What is?
- 38:05Speaker 4: What has the response been from the public or people
- 38:08Speaker 4: that have reached out to you about this.
- 38:09Speaker 3: There has been a handful of negative criticism, but the majority,
- 38:14Speaker 3: and I will say hundreds thousands of people have been
- 38:18Speaker 3: very supportive and thanked us for doing what we did.
- 38:22Speaker 3: You know, we gave voice to those that cannot stand
- 38:24Speaker 3: for themselves and to speak up for themselves. A lot
- 38:28Speaker 3: of people are timid and they don't want to speak out.
- 38:32Speaker 3: They certainly don't want to get arrested. I have never
- 38:34Speaker 3: been arrested in my life before, but this was something
- 38:38Speaker 3: I was willing to do to get the attention of everybody.
- 38:43Speaker 4: This would affect Morgan. I'm gonna ask a question here,
- 38:46Speaker 4: and I'm not trying to be a negative. I just
- 38:48Speaker 4: wanted to answer, did you guys or did you folks
- 38:51Speaker 4: when you went down there, go down there with the
- 38:53Speaker 4: with the intent of being arrested to make a statement.
- 38:57Speaker 19: We went there to meet with the Senator. We knew
- 38:59Speaker 19: that there were a possibility for arrest. We had already decided,
- 39:03Speaker 19: some of us had already decided before we went in
- 39:06Speaker 19: that if they did refuse to meet with us, that
- 39:09Speaker 19: we would stay and sit in. But our initial attempt
- 39:13Speaker 19: was to meet with the senator. It was not to
- 39:15Speaker 19: be arrested, but we knew that that was a possibility,
- 39:17Speaker 19: and some of us were willing to take that risk.
- 39:19Speaker 4: And she was in d C. I understand yesterday, that's correct.
- 39:23Speaker 19: We did call her office on the live stream. We
- 39:27Speaker 19: let them know what we were there for. They assured
- 39:29Speaker 19: us that they were working on it. I asked to
- 39:31Speaker 19: speak specifically to her lead field representatives at a station
- 39:35Speaker 19: here in Charleston into no avail. We were short arrested
- 39:39Speaker 19: almost immediately. We were only in there for about thirty minutes.
- 39:43Speaker 4: I was going to ask you what was the process, like,
- 39:45Speaker 4: I mean, it was Charleston p D. I guess that
- 39:47Speaker 4: arrested you, right, correct?
- 39:49Speaker 19: Yeah, they actually they knew that we were coming. They
- 39:53Speaker 19: actually had building staff downstairs, and so some of us
- 39:57Speaker 19: had made it up into the building. First, they stopped
- 40:00Speaker 19: almost over half of the people who had came with
- 40:02Speaker 19: us downstairs and didn't even let them into the lobby.
- 40:05Speaker 19: They wouldn't even let the gazette mail in.
- 40:07Speaker 4: So there was there were six arrested. How many people
- 40:10Speaker 4: were in the total group?
- 40:12Speaker 19: So the people that you saw downstairs protesting were actually
- 40:15Speaker 19: with us to come upstairs. They were downstairs because they
- 40:18Speaker 19: weren't allowed in the building.
- 40:19Speaker 4: I got you, I got you, okay. And we're talking
- 40:20Speaker 4: to Morgan Fowler and Beth Currns, who were two of
- 40:23Speaker 4: the folks that were arrested yesterday. Either one of you, Morgan,
- 40:27Speaker 4: I'll start with you. Are there more protest planned?
- 40:32Speaker 20: We don't have.
- 40:32Speaker 19: Anything definitive right now. There's a lot of energy. I've
- 40:35Speaker 19: received hundreds of messages of people who didn't even know
- 40:38Speaker 19: that this was kind of going on, who want to
- 40:40Speaker 19: be involved, people that are affected by this. So we're
- 40:41Speaker 19: kind of just trying to see what steps we want
- 40:43Speaker 19: to take next. I would really rather be able to
- 40:46Speaker 19: meet with the Senator than to have to continue doing
- 40:48Speaker 19: civil disobedience to have access to our elected officials, but
- 40:51Speaker 19: I think that's kind of the ball in their court.
- 40:53Speaker 4: So you guys are I guess you have a court
- 40:56Speaker 4: case in July. That's what happens next. Beth, Yes, okay,
- 41:00Speaker 4: and that's true. And what were you actually charged with?
- 41:03Speaker 4: Trusts misdemeanor? Okay?
- 41:06Speaker 3: And I do want to give a shout out to
- 41:08Speaker 3: the Charleston Police Department. They were very respectful, They were
- 41:11Speaker 3: very polite, kind and of course we were polite compliant
- 41:16Speaker 3: with them as well. It was they made the whole
- 41:20Speaker 3: process as easy as possible for us.
- 41:23Speaker 4: I mean, there is something to be said for civil
- 41:26Speaker 4: disobedience and everybody trying to, you know, play nice with
- 41:28Speaker 4: each other so to speak. I mean, because they had
- 41:30Speaker 4: a job to do and you completely understand that you
- 41:32Speaker 4: were there for a purpose. Uh, we'll let you folks go.
- 41:35Speaker 4: But Beth, I'll start with you, and then Morgan, I'll
- 41:37Speaker 4: wrap it up with you. What would you say to
- 41:39Speaker 4: Senator Capitol now, or any elected official, any anybody in
- 41:43Speaker 4: Washington that is looking at this big, beautiful bill. What
- 41:46Speaker 4: would your message be to them now?
- 41:48Speaker 3: They need to listen to the people that they represent
- 41:51Speaker 3: and do what's best for the people, not for any
- 41:53Speaker 3: hidden agenda, and not for their own personal gain. Politically,
- 41:57Speaker 3: financially or anything else.
- 41:59Speaker 4: All right, you want to close it out.
- 42:02Speaker 19: Yeah, I just really urged them to look at how
- 42:04Speaker 19: this is really going to affect, specifically the people throughout
- 42:07Speaker 19: the state of West Virginia. There's a lot of things
- 42:09Speaker 19: in this bill, and this bill it's a really big bill.
- 42:12Speaker 19: I don't think people really have the full knowledge of
- 42:15Speaker 19: what this actually can do, and so I just urged
- 42:18Speaker 19: them to really look deeper into how this is going
- 42:20Speaker 19: to affect the people that they were elected to represent.
- 42:23Speaker 19: And I would ask them to be more accessible to
- 42:25Speaker 19: the people that they represent, just because you choose not
- 42:27Speaker 19: to agree, maybe politically with the people you were elected
- 42:30Speaker 19: to represent them. And so your job is to be
- 42:33Speaker 19: a representative of your people. And when I'm seventy percent
- 42:35Speaker 19: of the people in your state are going to be
- 42:37Speaker 19: affected by this bill, I don't think it's a hard
- 42:38Speaker 19: ass to communicate with your constituents.
- 42:41Speaker 4: Morgan Fowler and Charleston City council person Beth Currents. I
- 42:45Speaker 4: appreciate you both for taking time on your schedule to
- 42:47Speaker 4: be here today. Thanks a lot.
- 42:48Speaker 3: Well, thanks so much for having us the.
- 42:49Speaker 4: One all right, Morgan, thanks thanks to you as well.

- 45:47Speaker 4: announcement yesterday that a sports complex is coming to Jackson
- 45:50Speaker 4: County directly, We're gonna go there and talk to the
- 45:52Speaker 4: mayor one of my favorite people in the world, Carolyn Raider,
- 45:55Speaker 4: on the show today. If you own a business in
- 45:58Speaker 4: West Virginia, you have to file an annual re port
- 46:00Speaker 4: with the West Virginian Secretary of State's Office. Sarah Carey
- 46:03Speaker 4: is the business director for the SOS. She's going to
- 46:05Speaker 4: join us on the show today. Apparently we're talking about
- 46:07Speaker 4: bees on the show today as well. And there was
- 46:10Speaker 4: an announcement that came at late last night that about
- 46:12Speaker 4: three hundred coal miners from a company based in Raleigh
- 46:16Speaker 4: County but with mines in other areas. Those miners are
- 46:20Speaker 4: going to some of them permanently laid off of no
- 46:22Speaker 4: chance of being called back. We're going to talk to
- 46:24Speaker 4: Chris Hamilton, president of the West Virginia Coal Association. Coming

- 46:52Speaker 4: oh yeah, I will have a guest on the show,
- 46:55Speaker 4: Tomur guest host on the show. I'll be here, but
- 46:58Speaker 4: some of the hosting duties are going to be handled
- 46:59Speaker 4: by Amy Breedlove and you may recognize Amy. Amy was
- 47:04Speaker 4: on Metro News Midday with Me a couple of weeks ago,
- 47:07Speaker 4: and she's also been on the local show as well.
- 47:10Speaker 4: Amy is a native of Charleston and it's been quite
- 47:14Speaker 4: a career for herself in the voiceover business. She is
- 47:16Speaker 4: a world renowned voiceover artist. If you go to Target

- 47:24Speaker 4: voice of Amy Breedlove and you'll recognize it when she's

- 47:29Speaker 4: as a sort of a I'm gonna be here, but
- 47:33Speaker 4: I'm gonna try. She doesn't know it yet, but I'm
- 47:34Speaker 4: gonna can't basically turn the show over to her coming
- 47:37Speaker 4: up tomorrow, and so you definitely want to check that out.
- 47:41Speaker 4: Dave Alan showing five Any Live is brought to you
- 47:43Speaker 4: in part by Husband's Pizza. This month, get a large
- 47:45Speaker 4: at nich Pepperoni pizza and a whole tenant sub for
- 47:48Speaker 4: twenty three ninety nine. I'd your closest Hustans for delivery
- 47:51Speaker 4: pick up her dined in by going to Hustan'spizza dot com.
- 47:54Speaker 4: As you may imagine, I got a bunch of texts
- 47:55Speaker 4: to get to and I will get to those now,
- 47:58Speaker 4: Texas Dave. Any cuts to Medicaid and SNAP are from
- 48:01Speaker 4: illegal aliens and those that are able to work. It's
- 48:05Speaker 4: called fraud. These people are lying and trying to scare
- 48:08Speaker 4: folks like they always do here in Florida where I am.
- 48:12Speaker 4: The Texture says it is not tolerated. Says it's extra Well,
- 48:16Speaker 4: the if I appreciate the text, the majority of people
- 48:21Speaker 4: that are on Medicaid are working. It's something like seventy
- 48:23Speaker 4: to eighty percent are working. Now. Is their fraud within
- 48:26Speaker 4: the Medicare system? Medicaid system absolutely there. It's governmental, so
- 48:30Speaker 4: there's going to be fraud. That's the way it works. Uh.
- 48:32Speaker 4: But point to point point taken there by, the Texture
- 48:37Speaker 4: text said, so they went there to meet with the senator,
- 48:39Speaker 4: but they knew the Senator wasn't there. Well, and as
- 48:43Speaker 4: they said, the Charleston Police department knew that that they
- 48:46Speaker 4: were coming. They wanted to meet with representatives from Senator
- 48:51Speaker 4: Capitol's office. And but I think they I mean, you know,
- 48:58Speaker 4: how can I say that. I think, as Morgan said,
- 49:01Speaker 4: I think they knew going there that there was a
- 49:03Speaker 4: possibility of being arrested. I asked the question, did they
- 49:06Speaker 4: go there hoping to be arrested? And uh uh and
- 49:10Speaker 4: and I think she gave an honest answer that the
- 49:12Speaker 4: possibility was there. And I saw this was going all
- 49:17Speaker 4: over SOCIALI I made some comments about it myself last night,
- 49:19Speaker 4: but I also I mean, I had my own opinions
- 49:21Speaker 4: on it. But I also believe in free speech, and
- 49:24Speaker 4: I believe in allowing people to tell their side of
- 49:27Speaker 4: the story. And that's why I reached out to a
- 49:30Speaker 4: council person, Kurns, and also uh to Morgan Power. I
- 49:34Speaker 4: did not know either one of them. I knew of
- 49:37Speaker 4: councilwoman Kerns obviously being a Charleston City council person, but
- 49:40Speaker 4: I did not know Morgan Fowler at all. Just reached
- 49:43Speaker 4: out to them and said, hey, you want to come
- 49:45Speaker 4: on and show and tell your story. That's kind of
- 49:46Speaker 4: what we do here, you know, let people come in.
- 49:48Speaker 4: Doesn't matter whether I agree or disagree or whatever. We
- 49:51Speaker 4: just we let them. We just let them come in
- 49:53Speaker 4: and talk and give their side of the story. And
- 49:56Speaker 4: this Big Beautiful Bill is still being debated in Charleston,
- 49:59Speaker 4: is going to I mean in Washington. Was obviously debated
- 50:02Speaker 4: to Charleston as well, but I mean also also in
- 50:05Speaker 4: Washington as well. And there are some Republicans that aren't
- 50:08Speaker 4: on board with it and some you know, yesterday on
- 50:11Speaker 4: the show, I had Jason Huffman from Americans for Prosperity
- 50:13Speaker 4: on who is very much that was on the midday show,
- 50:15Speaker 4: Who's very much in favor of the Big Beautiful Bill?
- 50:18Speaker 4: And he said, you know, there's some divisions. Some people
- 50:21Speaker 4: like the House versions, some people like the Senate version.
- 50:23Speaker 4: I don't know what's gonna happen. But the work continues
- 50:26Speaker 4: on it. That's all. That's all I can tell you.
- 50:28Speaker 4: But Dave Island Show in five Ady Live is brought
- 50:29Speaker 4: to you a part by Live Healthy West Virginia, presented
- 50:31Speaker 4: by WVU Medicine. It's a podcast offering insights into medical
- 50:35Speaker 4: breakthroughs some preventative care, featuring wvu's expert physicians. Check it
- 50:39Speaker 4: out under the podcast menu at metronews dot com. Let
- 50:45Speaker 4: me see texays the protesters characterization of Crapito is accurate.
- 50:50Speaker 4: That's their word, Crapaito, not mine. She's not responsive to
- 50:54Speaker 4: and does not care about anyone who can't or won't
- 50:56Speaker 4: give her money, publicity, or power. She never returns call,
- 51:00Speaker 4: never takes calls, never holds town halls, never except's meetings,
- 51:02Speaker 4: and otherwise ignores regular folks. Well, I can tell you that,
- 51:06Speaker 4: and I'm not involved in the office of Senator Gentlly
- 51:10Speaker 4: Moore Capital, I can tell you she has plenty of
- 51:11Speaker 4: meetings with constituents. I do know that. Now about town halls,
- 51:15Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't, but I'll be honest with you.
- 51:19Speaker 4: If you watch the news and you see the venom
- 51:22Speaker 4: that's being spewed in these town halls right now, I
- 51:26Speaker 4: don't know if I am a Republican or a Democrat
- 51:29Speaker 4: if I would have a town hall either. I mean,
- 51:31Speaker 4: because people are getting out of hand. And I'm not
- 51:33Speaker 4: talking about the people that were protesting he her office yesterday.
- 51:36Speaker 4: I'm talking I mean meeting with a small group of
- 51:38Speaker 4: people I think would probably be okay in my opinion,
- 51:42Speaker 4: meeting with a large group of people with the temperature
- 51:44Speaker 4: in this country right now. On either side, I'm gonna
- 51:48Speaker 4: probably say no, I probably wouldn't do it. If I
- 51:51Speaker 4: were her, or a Democrat or whatever, I probably wouldn't. Texas,
- 51:55Speaker 4: The protest the Senator Capitol's office was a joke. These
- 51:57Speaker 4: are the same liberal hacks who invited the homeless Charleston.
- 52:00Speaker 4: He only cuts of these programs for people who do
- 52:02Speaker 4: not qualify for them. People who can work should work,
- 52:05Speaker 4: not rely on my hard earned tax dollars. Texas. Wasn't
- 52:09Speaker 4: Amy a dj on V one hundred seven years ago? Yes,
- 52:12Speaker 4: she was, and we'll talk about that with her on
- 52:13Speaker 4: the show tomorrow. Hey, thanks to all the guests today.
- 52:15Speaker 4: Ryan Nicholson, the producer, thank you so much as well.
- 52:17Speaker 4: I'll be back with Metro News Midday coming up, No Amanda,
