- 0:01Here's your host, Alex Garrett. Here's the question I want to pose right
- 0:08off the bat here on the Alex Garrett Podcast Network. It's a simple question,
- 0:15but then it feels very complex. Ken the Alex Garrett Podcast Network be
- 0:22culturally irrelevant? That's my question today? Is this podcast culturally relevant? Now?
- 0:31Are you hearing about us? Are you listening to us? Are you
- 0:34there? I stay talking about us, good or bad? I guess because
- 0:39I've been used to quote unquote cultural relevance for a long time. I mean,
- 0:46being in the papers, I gotta say with George Steinbrenner and then being
- 0:49on Regis Philbin twenty years ago made me feel like I was part of the
- 0:56culture. But as an adult sitting at Yankee Stadium, yes, I loved
- 1:02it on old Timer's Day, but not being on the field. It hit
- 1:07home to me that the passing of George Steinbrenner was the first book, the
- 1:15first door that closed on access that I was blessed with the opportunity to have
- 1:21when I was a kid. And the second door that closed was my dad's
- 1:30guidance. Now it's not totally closed, because he's guiding me, even in
- 1:32spirit. He's guiding me by the last thirty one years that he was on
- 1:37this He's been my father. He'll always be my dad. But you know
- 1:40what I mean, his guidance left an imprint on me, and he helped
- 1:48get me access to the most unbelievable things. I meet people the average person
- 1:59would not normally meet. Can we be honest about that? But now as
- 2:04an adult, the vehicle I believe I can utilize and you can help me
- 2:09out Alex at alex nyc dot com. The vehicle that I believe can be
- 2:15utilized to study culturally relevant and to keep this podcast culturally relevant is one leg
- 2:23up with Alex Garrett. That's why I'm proud to carry my business card around.
- 2:29And I'm sorry if it's kind of a me, me me show,
- 2:31but there was just this feeling city at Yankee Stadium on the seventy fifth Old
- 2:38Timer's Day, having met all the guys basically on that field, including Derek
- 2:46Jeter over the years, that I felt man that access has been cut off.
- 2:57But I don't think that's a forever cut off. I think it's a
- 3:00for now thing. I think it's because just like my first radio home being
- 3:06demolished, the hotel pen, this chapter is one of reinvention. So how
- 3:16do I reinvent one leg up with Alex Garrett to become culturally relevant too?
- 3:22I don't know, become like Kyle Gordon who's been touring with the Jonas Brothers
- 3:27that hung out with Ed Sheeran on a TikTok? I mean, is it
- 3:31because this show and I'm excited about it too, that I'm too hardlined on
- 3:39real news, that I'm too focused on having real life conversation about things like
- 3:46the Hunter Biden indictment that just went down today. Am I too focused on
- 3:53talking about Congress and the defense spending? Is that too nerdy for you?
- 4:00Because I think it's sure? It's hell is an important conversation to know how
- 4:02our tax dollars are spent. But that's not culturally relevant in my eyes.
- 4:09It should be, but it doesn't feel like it. So for a society
- 4:13and culture podcast like I like to categorize this, how do I reinvent this
- 4:18podcast to be culturally relevant? What do I gotta do? And you can
- 4:28hit me up at my email Alex at alexg NYC dot com to answer these
- 4:36questions. Can this show ever be culturally relevant if I focus too hard on
- 4:44adaptability, accountability and accessibility. And then if I have to reinvent myself,
- 4:54tell me how. So if it's too hardlined a show that may not break
- 5:02the cultural barriers, if you will, how do we reinvent this podcast?
- 5:09Because I truly believe One Leg Up with Alex Garrett does serve a purpose.
- 5:13It might be a voice to those who don't have a voice in the world
- 5:17today. It certainly, I certainly hope it brings home the idea of accountability,
- 5:24accessibility, and adaptability because an adaptation is a niche that I kind of
- 5:30groove into. But it's not getting me back on that field the Yankee Stadium.
- 5:36It's not getting me you know, those press tickets like maybe I thought
- 5:42it might. So what do we have to do to become more in the
- 5:46scene or is it okay that this show is just focused on the real stories
- 5:54and not the cultural fluff out there that some might consider. Let me know,
- 6:00Alex and Alex GRENYC dot com. I just want to know is this
- 6:02show culturally relevant to you? And if it is, thank you, And
- 6:06if it's not, how do we make it new and improved so that yeah,
- 6:13maybe we can utilize the show as a vehicle to bring you voices and
- 6:20people that are are trending in addition to those that aren't trending but should be.
- 6:28One of my other taglines I have. I have like twenty taglines on
- 6:30this show, but you know, it's got to be a healthy mix.
- 6:36And it's also partly because now having lost my dad, who was the guy
- 6:45who kind of guided me and drove me to different places in the city to
- 6:49be right there up on the front, I want to do that and I
- 6:57guess proof to myself I can do that in my adult year as well.
- 7:01So will you help me? What can we do it? Can we do
- 7:04it together? Can we make the show culturally relevant? Alex at alex nyc
