- 0:00Speaker 1: But look, joining me on the line right now.
- 0:02Speaker 2: I always like heading out to the rural area and
- 0:04Speaker 2: joining me on the line right now. Is the independent
- 0:07Speaker 2: member for goid A Kezier Puric. Good morning to you, Kezier.
- 0:11Speaker 3: Oh, good morning Katie. Wanting to listeners.
- 0:13Speaker 1: You're sounding a bit sick today, easier bit crook.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I got a cold. I went to that dreadful
- 0:19Speaker 3: Sydney place and did all my precautionary things and more
- 0:22Speaker 3: masks and clean tables. And I'm back one day and
- 0:26Speaker 3: I've got a cold and I tested myself. It's not
- 0:28Speaker 3: the rona. No good to hear a couple of days.
- 0:32Speaker 2: Oh, absolutely, Well, we're hoping we'd have you on the
- 0:35Speaker 2: week that was tomorrow, but we'll have to wait and
- 0:36Speaker 2: see how you're going.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Don't want you to go. Yeah, see how you go now, Kesier.
- 0:41Speaker 2: The new fire station is obviously it's complete, as I
- 0:44Speaker 2: understand it is.
- 0:45Speaker 1: It's finished now, isn't that.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 0:48Speaker 3: I believe so. I believe so that I'm doing a
- 0:50Speaker 3: soft opening and checking all the all the equipment to
- 0:53Speaker 3: make sure it's all working well for you know, coming
- 0:55Speaker 3: into the dry season in particular.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Yeah. Well, and it's out there at at Howard's. But
- 1:00Speaker 2: it's called is it called the Parmesan fire station?
- 1:03Speaker 3: It is called just called boring Parmesan fire station, you know.
- 1:07Speaker 3: And I'm getting a bit fed up with this government
- 1:09Speaker 3: trying to encroach into the rule area and leave things
- 1:12Speaker 3: they're called Parmesan, Like we've got the Pariston Hospital, although
- 1:15Speaker 3: they sometimes do refer to it as the Parmeston and regional.
- 1:19Speaker 3: So why isn't this fire station called the Parmeston a
- 1:21Speaker 3: rural fire station when it's within the Lichfield Council boundaries.
- 1:25Speaker 3: And not only that, Katie, we've got the Rural Volunteer
- 1:28Speaker 3: fire Brigades Howard Springs, something to do called Ingia Virginia
- 1:32Speaker 3: that service for the service the greater rural area and
- 1:35Speaker 3: lots of people involved out they'll have a lot of
- 1:37Speaker 3: engagement and a relationship with this fire station. And they're
- 1:40Speaker 3: rural people. They're rural volunteer brigades. And I think the
- 1:43Speaker 3: government should be looking at, you know, encompassing the rural
- 1:46Speaker 3: air because that's where this fire station is going to
- 1:49Speaker 3: be servicing predominantly, as well as obviously Parmeston and elsewhere.
- 1:53Speaker 3: So it should be I mean, I personally think it
- 1:54Speaker 3: should be the Lichfield fire station, but of course we're
- 1:57Speaker 3: not going to get the government to choose that because
- 1:59Speaker 3: I'd like to think that Parmerson's everywhere.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Well, and Gizie, this is the thing.
- 2:03Speaker 2: I guess you know, I was having a little giggle
- 2:05Speaker 2: going good on the rural area, you know, being being
- 2:08Speaker 2: staunch and wanting it to be the rural fire station.
- 2:12Speaker 2: But the fact of the matter is that it is
- 2:13Speaker 2: actually out there in Howard Springs and so a lot
- 2:17Speaker 2: of people are questioning why it's not included in the name.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Well, and like you said, and I'll be running to
- 2:23Speaker 3: the Minister for Police Nicole Madison, say come on enough enough.
- 2:26Speaker 3: You know you put the hospital in Lichfield Council and
- 2:29Speaker 3: now you've put the fire station. You still want to
- 2:31Speaker 3: call them just parmersaves Armson's got its own fire station,
- 2:34Speaker 3: you know, down Emory Avenue or wherever it is somewhere
- 2:36Speaker 3: down there. And this is a large fire stations are
- 2:39Speaker 3: any modern fire station which we don't need given we've
- 2:42Speaker 3: had a very good wet season, so we're going to
- 2:44Speaker 3: have a lot of fuel load and no doubt we'll
- 2:47Speaker 3: have lots of fires as we always do. So let
- 2:49Speaker 3: the rural people have some ownership of its infrastructure. Don't
- 2:52Speaker 3: just sort of, you know, ignore the twenty five twenty
- 2:55Speaker 3: eight thousand people who will be responding and needing and
- 2:58Speaker 3: working with this fire station and the offices. So I'll
- 3:02Speaker 3: be writing to the ministers hopefully we'll get a bit
- 3:03Speaker 3: of common sense out of this.
- 3:05Speaker 2: For one, Well and Keizer, it's not the only issue
- 3:07Speaker 2: out there in the rural area at the moment. I
- 3:09Speaker 2: know that you had said to me that the government
- 3:12Speaker 2: is wanting to make Marachai and Dundee and Douglas Day
- 3:18Speaker 2: into councils.
- 3:19Speaker 1: What does this all mean.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Well, yes, this has been over ten years in the coming.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Those who have been around long enough, we'll remember ten
- 3:27Speaker 3: years ago when the big Shires were made and Paul
- 3:30Speaker 3: Henderson was the Chief Minister and he just wanted to
- 3:32Speaker 3: push Marrachi, Corrobery, Dundee and a few others all into Lichfield.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Didn't ask Litchfield and then just blanket and call it
- 3:38Speaker 3: top end Shire. That was a long time ago. Huge resistance.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Jerry Woold remember for Nelson at the time, he coordinated
- 3:44Speaker 3: massive rallies around Parliament House in cars. We had huge pushback.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Then the government said, okay, we'll forget it, We'll leave it.
- 3:51Speaker 3: So surrounding Lichfield is the whole swag of unincorporated areas
- 3:54Speaker 3: which Marrakai is won in my electorate, Dundee's and others
- 3:57Speaker 3: Douglas Daily for example. Now, discussion paper just came out
- 4:01Speaker 3: of the blue as to how these areas should become incorporated,
- 4:05Speaker 3: whether with themselves or with Litchfield. When I spoke to
- 4:08Speaker 3: the mayor on Anzac Day, they hadn't had any formal
- 4:10Speaker 3: discussions with Litchfield. And the question is, we've got a
- 4:14Speaker 3: public meeting coming up at Maracai, not this weekend next
- 4:17Speaker 3: and I've done these had a public meeting. All the
- 4:19Speaker 3: people I've spoken to do not want to be incorporated.
- 4:22Speaker 3: They see no advantage, no benefits, and that all the
- 4:25Speaker 3: government's doing is they usually do have your say, but
- 4:28Speaker 3: they structure the questions such that you can only ask
- 4:30Speaker 3: the yes or no. So we're going to get a
- 4:33Speaker 3: pretty pretty strong message at public meeting on a Sunday
- 4:37Speaker 3: week as to where is this come from? What where
- 4:40Speaker 3: does it come from? Why? Now is there some kind
- 4:43Speaker 3: of package they're going to offer the residents of these areas, like,
- 4:46Speaker 3: you know, something to do with roads. They don't want
- 4:48Speaker 3: a library, They're not going to get a swimming pool.
- 4:50Speaker 3: This is what they mentioned in the discussion paper. I
- 4:52Speaker 3: mean the discussion paper is like five pages long. And also,
- 4:55Speaker 3: how are they going to get a rate base? A
- 4:57Speaker 3: rate basis? There's not a lot of dwellings out there
- 5:00Speaker 3: or properties. There are cattle stations, there's few partial properties,
- 5:04Speaker 3: and there's few mineral leases. So whether the government's got
- 5:07Speaker 3: something in mind that they're going to somehow, you know,
- 5:09Speaker 3: smack them with a big, big rate, rate high or
- 5:12Speaker 3: rate full stop, I don't know. So so easy for
- 5:15Speaker 3: the government, that's for sure.
- 5:17Speaker 2: So does it mean that the likes of Marrachai, Dundee
- 5:19Speaker 2: Douglas Day that they will all then fall under the
- 5:22Speaker 2: Litchfield Council.
- 5:24Speaker 3: We don't know. I know Kamali is in the mix.
- 5:26Speaker 3: There somewhere is a councul it's own right. If you
- 5:30Speaker 3: look at the discussion paper, they've got Marachai and a
- 5:33Speaker 3: Douglas Day all colored in one color. It leads you
- 5:36Speaker 3: to assume that's what they've got in mind. Do they have,
- 5:39Speaker 3: you know, in mind that Dundee and Kamali should come together?
- 5:43Speaker 3: The other thing too, Katie Is. Both Dundee and Marrachai
- 5:46Speaker 3: have their own very successful Progress Association. They provide a
- 5:52Speaker 3: structure to the community to provide service to the community.
- 5:55Speaker 3: They look after children, you know, Christmas time, Easter time,
- 5:58Speaker 3: and also those progresses siations have stepped up when they aren't.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Stuart Adam Hawey got cut in floods a couple of
- 6:04Speaker 3: years ago. It was a Progress Association that helped organize
- 6:08Speaker 3: the schooling on the Tavern brands for the students who
- 6:10Speaker 3: were stuck on that side of the flood. You know.
- 6:13Speaker 3: So they're already operating. Well, they're in the corporate Association.
- 6:17Speaker 3: You know, they pretty much run their own sort of
- 6:20Speaker 3: informal library with books that are shared. You know. So
- 6:23Speaker 3: you know, the government says saying, oh we want in
- 6:24Speaker 3: a corporate ship. Why what advantage isn't going to and
- 6:28Speaker 3: what's in it for the government. That's the other thing
- 6:29Speaker 3: to care for the government.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Well, we're going to catch up with the Lichfield bear
- 6:33Speaker 2: in a couple of minutes as well, and we'll hear
- 6:35Speaker 2: what he's got to say.
- 6:37Speaker 1: But yeah, well, keys here, it sounds like the talks
- 6:39Speaker 1: are happy out there at your place that your home
- 6:41Speaker 1: Brook yeah one.
- 6:45Speaker 3: He's very happy.
- 6:47Speaker 1: He is, by the sounds of it, very happy. Kesy Empiric.
- 6:51Speaker 1: We better leave it there. Hopefully you're on the mend,
- 6:54Speaker 1: but no no pressure for tomorrow. We'll talk to you soon.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Good on you, Thank you,
