- 0:34Hello and welcome to another installment of the drive through September 2020.
- 0:40I'm your host, Brad.
- 0:41With me as always is Mr.
- 0:43Eric.
- 0:44Hello.
- 0:44And Tanya, uh, obviously, uh, the drive through is our monthly recap where
- 0:51we've put together a menu of local racing and random car, Jason news.
- 0:55Now let's pull up to window number one for some industry news.
- 0:58I'm going to go ahead and kick us off with the revealing of the new Nissan Z car.
- 1:03That.
- 1:04called the Proto.
- 1:05Uh, it's supposed to be the new 400Z.
- 1:08Uh, it was announced on September 15th and it looks stunning.
- 1:13I think it's gorgeous.
- 1:14I think it's really cool looking.
- 1:16It's going to be small, but yeah, I mean, I think the only complaint I've
- 1:19heard by reading some of the comments and the initial feedback on the car is
- 1:22what's up with the big rectangle grill.
- 1:25But if you're not familiar with the old 240Zs from the 70s,
- 1:29then it might seem out of place.
- 1:31But in reality, I think it's.
- 1:32It's the closest modern Z to the original styling.
- 1:37I actually, and I agree with you, I think it looks really, really good.
- 1:41Now for our listeners out there, we talked to our resident Z man,
- 1:44Portia Al, and he is all about this.
- 1:48I don't want to spread rumors, but I have a feeling the Jag might get replaced.
- 1:53I have to say though, my favorite part is the taillights for some reason.
- 1:57I love the way the taillights look.
- 2:00They're just so retro to me.
- 2:01I think the design is just, it's killer.
- 2:04It's exactly, it is a complete throwback.
- 2:06It's really good looking car.
- 2:09I am undecided on the front.
- 2:12Kind of looks like a fish with its mouth gaping open.
- 2:16Now I like the BMWs.
- 2:19Oh, Oh, please.
- 2:21Um, my eyes hurt thinking about that one.
- 2:25No, I mean, I don't dislike it.
- 2:27I really liked the back.
- 2:29Like you said, I agree with you completely on that.
- 2:32It'll be interesting to see if they do some subtle changes
- 2:35between now and what actually gets.
- 2:37Rolled off the assembly line, but I've always been a general fan of these cars.
- 2:42So I'm excited to see a new one.
- 2:44I think it's going to look a lot better in a color that isn't canary yellow.
- 2:48And I know that's a throwback color as well, but a Z in silver.
- 2:53Black a nice deep red, you know, something like that blue and red stripes white.
- 2:59Yeah.
- 2:59White with the dots and livery would be fantastic.
- 3:02I mean, I think a brown Z cause I've seen a lot of brown two eighties.
- 3:07It's a very period appropriate color.
- 3:09Yeah.
- 3:09Personally, I really like the yellow though.
- 3:11I would never own one a brown or gray or like you were saying, like a deep red.
- 3:17Like a maroon or like a blood red would look stunning on this car.
- 3:21So let's talk about the specs a little bit.
- 3:23I mean, there's not too much known.
- 3:25It's going to have a 3.
- 3:275 liter twin turbo V6.
- 3:29Uh, it's sourced from infinity.
- 3:30There are also plans to source the suspension and the brakes
- 3:34from the infinity as well.
- 3:35Going to come with 400 horsepower, 350 torque, and it's going to
- 3:40come at launch with a six speed manual only, which is funny because
- 3:44it's competitor is the Supra.
- 3:46That is automatic only, or the, you know, the DSG, the floppy paddles.
- 3:51If it's between this and the Super now, I'm Z Man all day.
- 3:54This thing does check all the boxes, right?
- 3:57I mean, it's a two door, it's a manual, it looks good, big power numbers.
- 4:02It's actually decently priced.
- 4:04I don't see any downside yet.
- 4:06When can I drive one?
- 4:07Kudos to Nissan and Renault for putting out something that people
- 4:11might actually get excited about.
- 4:13So we're going to move on to the Bronco.
- 4:16There's a little bit of news.
- 4:17It's a little disappointing news.
- 4:18Obviously everybody knows the battle between the off roaders is heating up.
- 4:22There was news earlier in the month or maybe last month that
- 4:26Jeep was considering putting a 6.
- 4:282 liter V8 in the Wrangler.
- 4:30Well, Ford has responded.
- 4:33Saying, no, no, no, that's not for us.
- 4:36Chief engineer, Eric Loeffler, basically came out and said that the Bronco is not
- 4:42going to get the five liter coyote motor.
- 4:45And part of that is because of emissions.
- 4:48So they've got a very lofty goal with government regulations and things
- 4:51like that, that they have to hit the appropriate emissions numbers.
- 4:55Uh, and.
- 4:56Putting a V8 in something like this, I guess makes that more difficult
- 4:59with their other, the rest of the cars in their lineup, and also they
- 5:03believe that the motor that it's originally launching with the 2.
- 5:067 liter EcoBoost has got more than enough power to meet all the target wants of the
- 5:12customers that are purchasing the Bronco.
- 5:14It's got enough power.
- 5:15It's got enough torque.
- 5:16It's got enough.
- 5:17Fuel economy to make it a worthy competitor to anything else that the
- 5:22other off roaders are putting out.
- 5:23Now I say the other off roaders, namely that's the Wrangler because
- 5:27Chevy and the trailblazer, that's just going to be, you know, nothing.
- 5:31That's not going to happen.
- 5:31And then the new Range Rover Defender, I just don't know enough about, but
- 5:35it's probably going to be priced way out of the market of the, these two.
- 5:39So I'm comparing it to the Wrangler.
- 5:41So I'm going to put it to you this way, chocolate ice cream has just
- 5:45enough flavor and just enough color and just enough taste and just enough
- 5:49cold for us to call it ice cream.
- 5:51And that's the Bronco versus Chrysler saying, you know what,
- 5:56how many toppings you want?
- 5:57What do you want in your ice cream?
- 5:59I'll give you rocky road.
- 6:00And then I'm gonna put moose tracks in it, right?
- 6:05They go bonkers over there.
- 6:07So all these excuses About emissions and this and that why does Chrysler not care?
- 6:14They're like, you know, what 6.
- 6:162 liters?
- 6:16And then we're gonna put a blower on it And then we're going to put
- 6:20nitrous and then we're going to put a pro charger and then we're going to
- 6:22give you skinny tires for a dollar.
- 6:24I mean, it's like night and day difference between these two camps.
- 6:30As we've said before, Chevy's kind of sitting on the side
- 6:32of the lines going, all right, what are y'all going to do next?
- 6:36I haven't researched enough to fully understand the, I guess, the emissions
- 6:41regulations to understand how Chrysler and Fiat are able to do that, but it may
- 6:47have something to do with if it's not going into a brand new vehicle, or if
- 6:51it's not a brand new vehicle, it gets grandfathered in and that's why Dodge
- 6:55is using a 400 year old design with the Challenger and the Charger and they keep
- 6:59just throwing more power and stuff at it.
- 7:01I don't know.
- 7:02I could be wrong, but you're right.
- 7:04I mean, how does, how does Fiat get away with pumping 700, 800 horsepower
- 7:10out of these cars and just slapping a supercharger on it and calling it a
- 7:14day and not worrying about, you know, whatever, you know, I don't know.
- 7:18It's I got to tip my hat to the Chrysler guys.
- 7:21I've said it before.
- 7:22I mean, those guys are Off the hook.
- 7:25Now I feel for the Bronco folks.
- 7:27I mean, I'm excited.
- 7:28All of the pre deposits are sold out.
- 7:30You know, there's a long waiting list for the Bronco.
- 7:33It's a cool design.
- 7:34I personally like the concept better, but I think there's going to be a lot
- 7:38of consumers out there that are just disappointed that they won't be able
- 7:41to get a Bronco with a V8 like you could get back in the 90s or whatever.
- 7:46Enjoy it guys.
- 7:46That's all I'm going to say because it's sad that it's not coming.
- 7:49And I understand the argument that the three and a half liter turbo
- 7:53eco boost, you know, whatever makes the same kind of power and this and
- 7:57that, but it's not the same when you turn the key and you don't hear that.
- 8:01I mean, I'm sorry.
- 8:02Now I will say this is coming with the 2.
- 8:067, but because you brought up the 3.
- 8:105, there are hopes and there has been no denial.
- 8:14So it's admission by lack of denial that there could be a Raptor version of the
- 8:19Bronco coming, which then would be the 3.
- 8:215 liter twin turbo EcoBoost with 450 horsepower.
- 8:25Maybe that would be a competitor to the 6.
- 8:272 liter Wrangler.
- 8:29I mean, it sure enough would have the power, I guess you're right.
- 8:32It would not have the, the auditory pleasures of that motor.
- 8:36So, and unfortunately I'm not in the market for a Bronco.
- 8:39I would love to be in the market for a Bronco, but.
- 8:42I need a tow vehicle and the Bronco is not that same reason.
- 8:45I don't have a Wrangler anymore.
- 8:46This car, this vehicle is nice as it is.
- 8:49It's not something I would consider buying at this point.
- 8:52Good for Ford for trying to be environmentally responsible if
- 8:58they're trying to actually adhere to changing emissions regulations and
- 9:02any fines that could probably come down along the way if you know they
- 9:06don't adhere to changing regulations.
- 9:08I don't know enough about What's going on in that industry and
- 9:11if there's grandfathering in or who's cheating the corner or not
- 9:15actually is pretty fascinating.
- 9:17I'd be interested to learn more, but I mean, why, why do you need
- 9:20a V8 in a Bronco to do what?
- 9:22So Italian, there's a sign over the door.
- 9:24When you walk in Chrysler and it says emissions, we don't
- 9:27need your stinking emissions.
- 9:29And they go about their business, right?
- 9:31It's just pure arrogance.
- 9:33And I'm okay with it because at the end of the day, they're pushing
- 9:37the envelope on what can be done.
- 9:39I respect what both camps are doing, but what gets my attention
- 9:44is what's going over at FCA.
- 9:47One could argue it's all pointless because as things move towards
- 9:51more fuel efficient, more emissions friendly vehicles, guess what?
- 9:56Chrysler doesn't need to be investing time, research, money in.
- 10:00Big huge gas guzzling V8s if they're all going to disappear.
- 10:03That's very true.
- 10:05While all the rest of this news was coming out about the Z and the Bronco and all
- 10:08this, you know, people's emotions are all over the place and all of a sudden,
- 10:12Volkswagen drops a bomb on everybody.
- 10:14And goes, Hey, we're going to sell Bugatti to Rimac.
- 10:19And I'm like, excuse me, what?
- 10:21So I did a little digging on this.
- 10:22It's a bit misleading because Bugatti, even if it got sold to
- 10:28Rimac, it's a bit of a reverse merger.
- 10:30If you read how this is being structured, what we now realize
- 10:34is that Porsche already has almost a 16 percent share in Rimac.
- 10:40And Porsche is part of the Volkswagen and Audi group.
- 10:42So what's going on is VW, that side of the house doesn't want to
- 10:48continue pouring money into Bugatti and they're making some crazy stuff.
- 10:52I mean, you want to talk about bonkers.
- 10:54There are some new Bugattis that have been released design wise that
- 10:57are, you know, next level crazy.
- 11:00And that's fine.
- 11:01However, when Ferdinand Piëch, and that's how you pronounce a lot of
- 11:05people say Peach and Pike and a lot of it's Piëch, was still alive.
- 11:09He was very much invested in keeping Porsche tie to Bugatti and all this.
- 11:13Now, unfortunately he passed away in 2019.
- 11:17So the family and the estate is left to kind of make decisions on
- 11:20what's going on, especially with the venture capital and the stock that
- 11:24he had in Rimac and things like that.
- 11:26So what they've done is the Pieck family has come back and said that because
- 11:31they have a 50 percent controlling stock in Volkswagen, they still have a say
- 11:35in how all this is going to go down.
- 11:37So there's a lot of infighting going on right now, and they need to be
- 11:40convinced to sell Bugatti, but it needs to be beneficial to Porsche.
- 11:45So it's really kind of awkward.
- 11:47It's all this internal like politics and mafia stuff going on.
- 11:51And at the end of the day, what reporters are saying is the goal
- 11:56is that Stuttgart, you know, let's, let's wrap all of that together.
- 12:00Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, et cetera.
- 12:01They want 49%.
- 12:03Stock in RIMAC.
- 12:04So they don't want controlling stock in RIMAC, but they want to be as close
- 12:09as they can get without going over.
- 12:11Again, this really isn't a sell off so much as a way of VW and Porsche
- 12:17absorbing RIMAC's electrical technology.
- 12:21And boosting what they're already trying to do.
- 12:23So again, it was very misleading when this came out, people got all
- 12:26excited and hot and bothered about it.
- 12:28But I think it's just more of the same and we're just going to end up
- 12:31seeing the VAG portfolio expanding.
- 12:34Another announcement that got the world kind of all topsy turvy again, was Jeep.
- 12:40Again, Fiat Chrysler released pictures of the final version of the Grand Wagoneer.
- 12:47Now this isn't the first time that the Grand Wagoneer has been
- 12:50teased, but if I had to summarize, there's one word I would use.
- 12:56Huge.
- 12:5724 inch wheels look normal on the Grand Wagoneer.
- 13:02It's a big vehicle.
- 13:04You look at the pictures of the inside, you know, multiple digital
- 13:07Outputs and screens for the passenger and the center console or whatever.
- 13:11It's very plush.
- 13:12It's very cool I like the way it looks it harks back to the grand wagoneer.
- 13:18A lot of people say it's ugly I think it's it's cool but I think it caters to
- 13:23the wrong audience because the people that bought grand wagoneers were the
- 13:27people that were they were going fishing and hiking and camping with their
- 13:30family and It's a people mover, right?
- 13:33It was a third row people mover back then.
- 13:35That's what it is today You You know, you read the articles about it and
- 13:39they say, Oh, well, this is the first dedicated three row SUV from Jeep
- 13:43since the demise of the commander, you know, nearly 10 years ago.
- 13:46And I'm like, yeah, flag on the play.
- 13:48I'm sorry.
- 13:49That's not true.
- 13:50The Durango was originally supposed to be the grand Wagoneer, a bunch
- 13:53of political infighting there too.
- 13:55And they decided to keep it with Dodge.
- 13:57It's built on the Jeep chassis, which as you pointed out earlier
- 14:01is a 400 year old Mercedes chassis.
- 14:04Right.
- 14:04So this is not the first jeep based third row seat SUV.
- 14:08I think it looks better than the Durango, although I have nothing against the
- 14:11Durango, but here's my big problem with the Grand Wagoneer outside of the
- 14:16flash and the panache and its bigness.
- 14:19It comes with an extremely large price tag in top trim.
- 14:24We're talking a hundred thousand dollars.
- 14:27That would be the most expensive Jeep product on the docket today.
- 14:31And I don't know the Jeep customers want that.
- 14:35The comments I've read it's ugly.
- 14:37You know, all the aesthetics comments.
- 14:39Most of the people are saying, find a way to cut the price in half.
- 14:41The grand Wagoneer is supposed to be affordable.
- 14:44It's supposed to be a grocery getter, people mover, et cetera.
- 14:46But again, it's cool.
- 14:48They're pushing the envelope.
- 14:49Is it going to have wood panel trim?
- 14:52On the outside, I have not seen that.
- 14:56Well, there you have it, folks.
- 14:57No one's going to buy this thing.
- 14:59That's a 2, 000 option, I'm sure, right?
- 15:02I'm waiting for the 150, 000 Trailhawk edition, or Trackhawk edition.
- 15:06Yeah, yeah, Demon, red eye.
- 15:09I have to say, if I'm looking for a large, full size SUV, if I'm spending 100, 000,
- 15:15I'm buying a Range Rover every single day.
- 15:17I mean, if I'm spending 100, 000, I'm going to go buy a
- 15:19Yukon and have money left over.
- 15:21No, but I mean, if I was dead set on spending 100, 000 on getting a Range
- 15:26Rover, they've been doing it longer.
- 15:28They perfected it, even though the electronics are trash.
- 15:31If I just want a large SUV, I'm going to seriously consider the new
- 15:35Lincoln Navigator over this thing.
- 15:36Cause I think it's supposed to be cheaper, like around 60 and it's
- 15:39a much better looking vehicle.
- 15:41I think this is like someone took the Navigator design and kind of gave it to
- 15:45a two year old and said, here, have fun.
- 15:48You can get a Tahoe for 49.
- 15:50The GM products are much, much cheaper.
- 15:53They're much better priced.
- 15:54Speaking of sports cars, Maserati has showcased the new MC20.
- 16:00It's an elegant mid engine supercar.
- 16:02Some people, like the article that we're reading by Mike Duff, says that
- 16:06it's a new renaissance for Maserati.
- 16:09Basically a $200,000 or less than $200,000 supercar.
- 16:13It's supposed to be their new flagship for a whole gaggle of vehicles that they are
- 16:18going to release over the coming years.
- 16:19It's going to be a coop or a convertible.
- 16:23A little bit about this car.
- 16:24First of all, I think it looks amazing.
- 16:26I would buy this car over the McLaren's or anything.
- 16:30I think it's gorgeous.
- 16:31There's going to be two versions.
- 16:32There's going to be a V six and there's also going to be an electric
- 16:36and the electric will come later.
- 16:37It'll have 235 miles of range, give or take a, let's talk
- 16:41about the V six a little bit.
- 16:42It's going to, it's a 90 degree three liter V six twin turbo, 621 horsepower,
- 16:48and it's going to be made it to an eight speed dual clutch, and it'll
- 16:51be zero to 60 and three seconds with a top speed of 202 miles per hour.
- 16:56I don't know.
- 16:56I I'm, I'm really interested.
- 16:58Not that I'm in the market for one of these cars.
- 17:00I've never been a very large Maseratis.
- 17:07They just exist and that's fine.
- 17:10I will say this one isn't bad looking.
- 17:13I will say I like the 2021 Gran Turismo that's coming out.
- 17:19I think that looks a lot nicer, but that's all I got.
- 17:21I don't follow Maserati.
- 17:23They've never interested me.
- 17:25When I read MC20, I immediately thought Successor to the MC 12.
- 17:31We're getting another Maserati race car.
- 17:33This is going to be awesome.
- 17:34Like I'm totally ready to see this thing in IMSA.
- 17:37And then when I opened the article from car driver, I see basically a Ferrari
- 17:41488 with a different nose and tail on it.
- 17:43And all of a sudden I was disappointed because if you really step back
- 17:47and look at it and you ignore.
- 17:50The very, you know, marketing heavy drawing the car out with his black Sharpie
- 17:56and showing you how it was designed.
- 17:57Yeah, that's great.
- 17:58But you look at it and you realize, especially in the
- 18:01profile, it's a Ferrari 488.
- 18:03Okay.
- 18:04Different motor package, clip on the Gran Turismo tail lights and
- 18:08tail, put a Maserati nose on it and sell another car, sell a Ferrari
- 18:12at a slightly cheaper price.
- 18:14And it ain't that much cheaper at the end of the day, 200 grand.
- 18:17And this isn't the first time that they've done this either.
- 18:19Cause the, the, the 3, 200 GT or whatever was a three 60.
- 18:23So again, this is normal, but you know, people forget, and we're
- 18:27going to talk about this in a minute about who's linked to who.
- 18:29Maserati, part of Fiat.
- 18:32Ferrari, part of Fiat.
- 18:33They're all part of one big family, so it's not uncommon that this stuff happens.
- 18:38Just like everybody goes nuts, I hate to say, about their Cayennes.
- 18:42I hope you like your Touareg, right?
- 18:44It's the same vehicle.
- 18:46So this is no shocker to me.
- 18:47It's very European for them to do this.
- 18:50Is it a cool variant of the 488?
- 18:53Yes.
- 18:55Would I have one?
- 18:56Meh.
- 18:57That begs the question though, does Maserati even need to be in existence?
- 19:02Is there a need for Maserati?
- 19:04Our King for a day instead of the Stelvio and all that stuff.
- 19:08I would have Maserati move into the luxury SUV market so that way
- 19:13Ferrari doesn't have to build one.
- 19:15They can focus on high end exotics and race cars.
- 19:18Alfa Romeo comparable to maybe Pontiac if you kind of look at it from the GM
- 19:23tree where you started with the Chevy and then you got a Pontiac because it was a
- 19:27sporty one and then you got yourself a Buick and then you got a Cadillac, right?
- 19:31Fiat needs to kind of structure themselves the same way and say, all right, the
- 19:34Fiat's the bargain basement eco cars.
- 19:36Alphas, the sports cars, like for the everyday consumer, your M cars
- 19:40and all that kind of stuff, then you move up into your Maseratis and
- 19:44your Ferraris and stuff like that.
- 19:46So, I honestly would see Maserati getting out of the
- 19:49game and just building the SUVs.
- 19:52Transitioning from the Maserati, there was another new Supercar hypercar.
- 19:57That was kind of previewed this past weekend at the Lamar Race, and
- 20:01that's the Toyota gr Super Sport.
- 20:04This is apparently a, a new hypercar that they're, I guess, previewing, trying
- 20:07to generate interest and everything for it's come out before people have seen
- 20:11it before driving around and everything.
- 20:13This is the first time they've seen it with the top off.
- 20:16So clearly it's gonna be a targa or vert.
- 20:20And not much is known about it.
- 20:22It's apparently from the pictures, it looks like it's
- 20:24going to be a very small chassis.
- 20:26Looking at it from the side and the way the, uh, the cabin looks is very
- 20:31reminiscent to me of the Ferrari F50, basically a road going race car,
- 20:37because this is going to share the same motor as the Le Mans winning TS050.
- 20:42That's a 2.
- 20:434 liter twin turbo V6 with a hybrid, and it's a thousand horsepower motor.
- 20:48They're planning to finish production and show it off next year.
- 20:52It's a hyper car.
- 20:53So it's going to be priced up there with the McLaren P one, the law Ferraris
- 20:57and the Porsche nine 18s and stuff like that, personally, if that's what it's
- 21:01competing with much like the Lexus LFA, it's going to fall flat on its face
- 21:05because people aren't going to spend 750, 000 to a million dollars for a Toyota.
- 21:11Seeing it without the top on for the first time is because apparently
- 21:14the two gentlemen they had doing laps in it are like 10 foot tall
- 21:18or the car is the size of a Miata.
- 21:19Yeah, they, the only way they pass the broomstick test is because
- 21:24of the hood scoop on the back.
- 21:25I think you had Tanya's interest initially when you said GR for Gazoo
- 21:29Racing because anything with the GR badge, she gets all excited as we know.
- 21:33But I'm sorry, I'm not talking about the RS.
- 21:35No, no, I'd almost take a Yaris over this because, you know, we talked
- 21:39earlier today, as a matter of fact, about the C8 and how that fits.
- 21:44And it could be cramped for a lot of individuals.
- 21:46You know, some of these new modern hypercars are really small.
- 21:49This literally looks like a radical that they had to take the roof off of.
- 21:54It is very, very tiny.
- 21:56Good for Toyota.
- 21:57I mean, if they want to compete in a class where they might actually have
- 22:00competition for a change, and we'll talk about this more later, this is
- 22:03good entry for next year at Lamont.
- 22:06And so I applaud them for making another car, but as a road going vehicle,
- 22:10I, yeah, I wouldn't, no, I'm sorry.
- 22:14I mean, my only hopes for this is that it, it inspires other auto
- 22:18manufacturers to make more sports cars.
- 22:21I'm happy that Toyota brought the super back, even though it
- 22:24was with a lot of help from BMW.
- 22:26Uh, I'm glad that Nissan is reinventing the Nissan Z.
- 22:30I'm glad Chevy and Corvette reinvented the C8.
- 22:33So I hope this inspires another Lexus supercar like
- 22:36the LFA or something like that.
- 22:38I don't know, but I love coupes.
- 22:40I love grand touring coupes too, which this is not.
- 22:42But, uh, so I'm, I'm, I'm excited to see what comes from the competition.
- 22:47So let's talk about that.
- 22:48We've kind of alluded to the fact that there's a lot of companies
- 22:51that are conglomerates, right?
- 22:54And there's a lot of companies that we don't realize are families
- 22:58or are part of another group.
- 23:01And there was an interesting article that came across our desk recently.
- 23:03I thought it was cool to add the visual aid and I won't go through all of it.
- 23:06It's on the show notes and it basically shows.
- 23:09Which companies are partnered together in the United States?
- 23:14You know, especially with the whole Stellantis merger going on with
- 23:18the merger between FCA and Peugeot and Citroen and all that, you're
- 23:21starting to see those labels end up on this chart because there are talks
- 23:25about bringing those cars over here.
- 23:27I kind of laughed when I saw the Lancia and Opel brands on there because
- 23:31we know they're never coming back.
- 23:32But it was cool to see that now they're all part of Stellantis, right?
- 23:35So that's the biggest family.
- 23:37In that whole chart there.
- 23:39And then obviously you have the GMs, but the big thing coming out of all this
- 23:43is a recent announcement of an alliance between GM and Honda, the proposed
- 23:50alliance includes a shared range of vehicles, and they haven't disclosed
- 23:55what that is yet, but I have a feeling it has to do with the hybrid market
- 23:59and things like that, because Chevy.
- 24:01If you follow them, they're the last ones here in the hybrid space, they
- 24:06try, you know, we had that like really miserable, uh, hybrid suburban that
- 24:11they tried to put out like 10 years ago.
- 24:12And it didn't, Oh my God, that, that was great.
- 24:15Turd.
- 24:15That was terrible.
- 24:16And granted they have the Bolt and the Volt, which are EVs, but they don't
- 24:20have like a whole hybrid offering.
- 24:21And you know, they're really struggling on the compact and subcompact market
- 24:25where Honda continues to thrive, just like Toyota and Volkswagen, etc.
- 24:30So the proposed alliance brings a new range of vehicles.
- 24:32You're going to be sold distinctly, you know, uh, this happened with,
- 24:36as an example between Toyota and GM a while back with the, with
- 24:39the Matrix and the Vibe, right?
- 24:41They were the same car, different badge, different grill.
- 24:44So not uncommon for this to happen, but really, It's a cooperation in purchasing.
- 24:50So it's a game of strength and numbers.
- 24:53So by Honda and GM combining forces, when they go to go buy parts, and if
- 24:57they're using similar parts, it means they can get them at a cheaper rate.
- 25:01So it's all about bean counting.
- 25:02It's all about the bottom dollar.
- 25:04It's all about, you know, stuff like that.
- 25:05them saving money and maximizing profit.
- 25:07I totally get it.
- 25:08If they're looking to share research and development and connect services, like,
- 25:13you know, they've been alluding to in the article, that's great news for GM.
- 25:16I think they need a shot in the arm because if you look at what we talked
- 25:20about, what Ford's doing, you look at what Chrysler's doing, they're out
- 25:23there, they're sticking their necks out.
- 25:24They're trying to do something new and different.
- 25:25And GM's just kind of been plotting along, selling us the same thing for a while.
- 25:30And actually, They've been scuttling a lot of cars.
- 25:33So I think this is good news.
- 25:36I just hope that Honda does not adopt GM's quality control.
- 25:40If they've seen the history of what happens with GM and that
- 25:43there'll be some red flags there.
- 25:45Hey, and maybe the Malibu will get an Accord badge and the Suburban will
- 25:49have a pilot badge on the back of it.
- 25:51Maybe the Malibu and the Accord will disappear.
- 25:56So let's switch gears.
- 25:57A lot of our listeners might not realize that we record on Thursdays.
- 26:01And so in honor of throwback Thursday, we're going to talk about some retro
- 26:05cars that have made news this month.
- 26:08So one of the articles that Brad shared with me was the best handling car of 1984.
- 26:14It was cool to take a trip down memory lane and read this article and
- 26:17look at the best handling American.
- 26:21And I want to stress that American cars of 1984.
- 26:24So this was devoid of Cars do it basically obliterate anything that was on this list.
- 26:28Like, you know, actually handle.
- 26:31Yeah.
- 26:31Like a VW rabbit would have killed everything on this list.
- 26:34Uh, GTI version, mind you.
- 26:36I read the article as you guys did too.
- 26:39You know, it, it, it sings the praises of all these different cars.
- 26:43You had the Fiero, you had the Camaro, you had the Corvette, you had the,
- 26:46from all the major manufacturers.
- 26:48And if we look at them with today's goggles on, they're
- 26:51all flaming dumpster fires.
- 26:54Every one of them is terrible.
- 26:55However, if you put your rose colored beer goggles on and you read this for what it
- 27:01is, the test was done at Willow Springs.
- 27:03It was very thorough, you know, lots of good things.
- 27:05I found it really interesting that every car.
- 27:08In the test was a manual because you don't see that anymore.
- 27:11And a lot of road tests, it was nice to see a bake off between cars.
- 27:15Again, you don't see these kinds of articles anymore on, on a
- 27:18big scale like this, I thought the Camaro was an automatic.
- 27:22Well, I was getting to that.
- 27:23Yes.
- 27:23The only car on the list was with an automatic was a Camaro
- 27:27and that was pretty surprising.
- 27:28And you might also be surprised to find that the Camaro one out of all the cars.
- 27:34It beat out the Corvette and a lot of it had to do with basically
- 27:38the points that were scored in the categories that were scored in.
- 27:41And so that had to do with, you know, ease of use, handling, road feel, noise,
- 27:47you know, all these kinds of things.
- 27:48And so the Camaro being this big compromise car beat out the
- 27:53Daytona Turbo Z and the Corvette.
- 27:56Which were much better cars, performance wise, because of all the
- 28:00other categories that it scored in.
- 28:02I mean, it beat out the Fox Body Mustang, you know, a bunch of other stuff.
- 28:05So, kind of interesting.
- 28:07And what it didn't get scored on, which it would have lost, is interior styling.
- 28:12Oh God.
- 28:13What, why is the word Camaro on every, like it's, there's literally 11
- 28:19Camaros written on the driver's seat.
- 28:21And then on the passenger seat, and then there's three on the door.
- 28:24And I think there's more in the backseat, but you can't see.
- 28:27I mean, did we not know what car we were in?
- 28:30I mean, if we're talking the eighties, cause if you look at the stuff that
- 28:33Germany was pumping out with their blue jean interiors and checkerboard
- 28:37and pumpkin, it was all, terrible.
- 28:40Give me the plaid.
- 28:41Why are you writing Camaro 18 times on the seat I'm sitting on?
- 28:45I think that was the owner that did that.
- 28:47And that's Sharpie.
- 28:48Oh, It's on the doorsill, on the seats, on the hood, on the back.
- 28:55It's big list.
- 28:56But this is not a, this is not a, a strange concept because BMW does
- 29:00this today with all their M badges.
- 29:03Even cars that are not M'S get INM badges directly from the factory question.
- 29:08'cause the five cars.
- 29:10Chevy Camaro Z28, Corvette, Dodge Daytona Turbo Z, the Ford Mustang
- 29:16SVO, and the Pontiac Fiero 2M4.
- 29:20If you could have one of these cars for the weekend, which one would you choose?
- 29:26Oh, dang.
- 29:29And you're going to do laps somewhere with it.
- 29:31I Targa Top off the Corvette.
- 29:34And we rollin deep, son.
- 29:36Mmm, Fiero.
- 29:37I gotta go Fiero.
- 29:38What about you, Tanya?
- 29:40Uh, you know, the list, this list is, whew.
- 29:43But, I'm gonna go with the Dodge Daytona.
- 29:48Because I You like turbos.
- 29:50I used to have a little Matchbox car.
- 29:53Which I believe is in Eric's collection.
- 29:56So just on that fact alone, I'm going with the Dodge Daytona.
- 30:00But if I'm doing laps, I want the Corvette with that super
- 30:04stellar skid pad figure of 0.
- 30:0686 Gs.
- 30:08Talking about the past, another article that came across our desk was 18
- 30:13classic dream cars that we all love that are actually nightmares to own.
- 30:18Now, this is automotive clickbait at its best.
- 30:23So as you dive into this, there's all sorts of cars that probably have been
- 30:27on your wall as a kid or whatnot, and there's some on there that I have to
- 30:33say, I would never want to own, but there are a few that do stand out.
- 30:36I think there is one in particular on this list that a member of
- 30:40ours might be offended by this.
- 30:44But from what I understand by listening to stories, I'm thinking that FBRX7
- 30:50is probably a nightmare to own.
- 30:51Yeah, to your point, Tanya.
- 30:52I mean, the RX 7, I think there would be a few folks upset about that, but there's
- 30:56a bunch of other cars on this list.
- 30:58Well, the Spitfire probably was atrocious.
- 31:00Those things never ran correctly, right?
- 31:03Not from the day they came off the assembly line, but, you know,
- 31:05that's a typical British thing.
- 31:07So, I mean, there are a bunch of British cars.
- 31:09on this list, and unfortunately and regrettably for a lot of people,
- 31:12the E Type did land on this list.
- 31:15Now, I have to agree with John Wade, he said this on another episode, the
- 31:19E Type is more of a national treasure than it is an automobile anymore.
- 31:23It's a historical piece, it's a beautiful car, it's a piece of
- 31:26art, maintaining one of those.
- 31:29I agree with that, you know, there's a few others on the list, the Lamborghini
- 31:33Miura, uh, the Ferrari 308, you know, some other stuff on there.
- 31:37I take my issue with this article.
- 31:40I mean, there's plenty of cars on this article that I
- 31:41actually would be interested in.
- 31:43However, The clickbait part I think comes in.
- 31:46It's like, okay, the Pantera is on this list.
- 31:48Yes, please.
- 31:49I would like to drive one of those around.
- 31:51And all it says is, like the Jensen, the Pantera used an American engine.
- 31:56The thing is, 70s Italian engineering wasn't much better than British
- 31:59engineering, meaning build quality wasn't the best on early cars.
- 32:02Still, it's a stunner.
- 32:04Okay, so, that doesn't actually tell me why it's a nightmare.
- 32:08You're just stereotyping that British cars and Italian cars back then sucked.
- 32:11I mean, we could argue in the year 2020 that all cars from the 70s
- 32:16sucked and are a nightmare to own compared to today's standards.
- 32:20I mean, give me a little bit more.
- 32:21Tell me about how you drive it down the road and, I don't know, it catches on fire
- 32:25or shuts off every 30 miles or something.
- 32:29I have to say, though, how is the Porsche 924 Turbo a dream car?
- 32:35Ha ha, you noticed that, huh?
- 32:37It's the first one on the list.
- 32:38Now, I will say that I love the 924.
- 32:41I like the clean lines as compared to the 944.
- 32:44But how is the 924 Turbo considered a dream car on
- 32:48this list of instant classics?
- 32:50You could easily replace the 924 Turbo with the 934.
- 32:5444 turbo, which is a car that is sought after and is a nightmare to maintain.
- 32:59All right, so looking at this list, which car on this list would
- 33:03you love to go bankrupt owning?
- 33:06308, please.
- 33:08It's a simple one for me, Alfa GTV6.
- 33:12They're all Italian.
- 33:14Hmm.
- 33:14Fancy that.
- 33:15Go figure.
- 33:16So what's next?
- 33:17Up next, the iconic Volvo P1800 is reborn as a continuation special with 401.
- 33:2714 horsepower.
- 33:29Isn't this a Chinese car now?
- 33:30Uh, technically yes.
- 33:32According to our chart.
- 33:33Yes.
- 33:33It would be owned by Gigli.
- 33:35This is a weird looking car.
- 33:37You could say that.
- 33:40So it's reminiscent of the era, right?
- 33:42So the P 1800 is most famous for being driven by Simon Templar, who
- 33:49is the fictional character, the main star of the television show, the
- 33:52saint, which was redone as a movie.
- 33:55in 1997 starring val kilmer who then debuted the c70 volvo which was supposed
- 34:02to be the successor as the two door coupe volvo so the p1800 has a sweet
- 34:07spot for a lot of people in the retro world it is a good looking car at first
- 34:12glance you're right it doesn't look like A Volvo, it looks like something
- 34:16else from the air, something Italian, you know, something German, like a
- 34:19Karmann Ghia, et cetera, gorgeous car.
- 34:21I mean, if you consider it for what it is, it was actually a really good
- 34:24performer back then, lots of, you know, racing history, et cetera.
- 34:28And I like the fact that the P1800 is, we're going to put quotes around
- 34:32this coming back because it's right in line with the Eagle Jags, right?
- 34:37The replica E types it's right in line with the singer, uh, Porsche 911s, right?
- 34:41All these classic cars that are getting completely updated but
- 34:45keeping their original lines.
- 34:46I've been saying forever, I don't understand why we can't bring back
- 34:50old designs, modernize them, make them safer, and have awesome cars.
- 34:55So, you know, the difference between the old P1800, which made, you know, barely
- 34:59triple digits in terms of horsepower, We've got the same body lines might not
- 35:04be the exact same dimension slightly larger because modern times because of
- 35:08safety equipment, etc But to put 400 horsepower in a car like that rear wheel
- 35:12drive again a two door coupe very stylish.
- 35:15Good job I think it's probably too much of a handful to drive though I
- 35:19would think maybe 250 horsepower would be the sweet spot so I can imagine
- 35:23it's not a very heavy car though According to this it's 990 Kilos.
- 35:29So that's 21 almost 2200 pounds.
- 35:32Okay.
- 35:32So 2200 pounds.
- 35:35It's a rocket ship.
- 35:36It's, it's a handful and you're not going to be able to get any
- 35:39traction, but we have launch control and we have really smart computers
- 35:44and we have all this technology and automatic flappy paddle transmissions.
- 35:48That thing's a missile.
- 35:50The problem is, what, this is like a, I mean, this is a resto mod, right?
- 35:54I mean, it's, it's very much probably dimensionally the
- 35:57same as the original one.
- 35:58I mean, it, it looks lines wise, very much so.
- 36:01And I mean, these are going to be one offs.
- 36:04I love the idea of bring back the retro modernized cars of yesteryear
- 36:10and make them safe, but you know what that requires in today's day
- 36:13and age, it requires 15 airbags.
- 36:15And 15 airbags take up a lot of room in, in a pillars and whatnot.
- 36:20And it's like, I don't think this car.
- 36:22It's street legal in the sense of, I'm sure for historic whatever, you can get
- 36:26away with it, but if you're mass producing this again like this, it would end up
- 36:29being some bloated, wallowing, huge thing, because you gotta fit the airbag
- 36:34in the seat, and in the roof, and under your butt, and on the floor pedals, and
- 36:37here, and there, and, and then this, that, and the other, and the bumpers
- 36:40need to be this, and that, and, ugh.
- 36:42I hate to continue to go back to Chrysler.
- 36:46If you want to see it done right, there's one word.
- 36:49Challenger.
- 36:50Yes, it is dimensionally larger than the original, but it maintains the spirit,
- 36:55the lines and the look of the original.
- 36:58Well, the thing with, with American cars is they've always been huge.
- 37:02So you make another huge American car.
- 37:04It's kind of like, okay, big deal.
- 37:06But you take a European car.
- 37:08There was always felt and then you try to make it adhere to all the modern
- 37:13regulations and this and the other.
- 37:15I don't know that that Volvo would still be that size.
- 37:18I mean, you have the Mazda Miata.
- 37:19That's a teeny car.
- 37:20So sure.
- 37:20I mean, I guess it's everything, anything's possible, right?
- 37:23Very true.
- 37:24So let's, let's stop talking about old stuff.
- 37:26Nobody cares about old cars anymore.
- 37:28Now it's time to.
- 37:30get into our newest section, and crack open a can of Jolt Cola,
- 37:36where we cover electric car news.
- 37:39And over to Tanya.
- 37:40Staying in theme with some of the earlier industry news and partnerships, there was
- 37:44an announcement earlier this month about GM partnering with Nikola, which they're
- 37:51the folks that have been touting their hydrogen fuel cell cars and this, that,
- 37:55and the other, and they're going to have the, you know, first hydrogen semi, and
- 37:59they're going to come out with the Badger.
- 38:01Uh, electric truck or hybrid hydrogen electric truck.
- 38:04They've recently partnered.
- 38:06What that means is their GM took a, an 11 percent stake in Nikola.
- 38:10And from Nikola's end, that's awesome to be partnered with a
- 38:15major manufacturer because you are getting, So much in return, because
- 38:21obviously GM has been around the block.
- 38:23So they have all the technical capability in terms of manufacturing
- 38:27cars and the, and, and the supply chains and all that they can bring
- 38:31that to the table very easily.
- 38:32Whereas Nikola can now bring technology that GM isn't familiar with.
- 38:37There's a good opportunity for an interesting development.
- 38:40to come about.
- 38:41So that's exciting.
- 38:42They have said to that end, you know, they're partners now, so there will
- 38:46be help around that electric truck, the Badger, which is apparently going
- 38:50to be some 900 horsepower beast.
- 38:53The Badger is more pickup truck looking.
- 38:57What we tend to think of when we think of a pickup truck, it doesn't
- 38:59look like it came from GoldenEye N64, unlike the Cybertruck.
- 39:04So I don't find it hateful looking in terms of pickup trucks, but I'm
- 39:07also not a pickup truck connoisseur.
- 39:09So I think it'll be interesting to see how it develops.
- 39:11Unfortunately, two days later, after that announcement, there was another
- 39:16announcement that Trevor Milton, who's been the CEO of Nikola, just
- 39:20stepped down, he, and I guess the company are fighting fraud allocations.
- 39:25Oh, bad boy.
- 39:29Womp womp womp.
- 39:31Dirty money.
- 39:32And so what they're saying is.
- 39:34You know, he stepped down as the chairman after a short seller has accused Milton
- 39:39and Nicola of misleading investors and overstating the value of a business deal.
- 39:44Based on that, he's basically stepped down to, I think, fight that separately
- 39:49from the company and pull away and not detract from what the company is doing.
- 39:53And part of those allegations also mentioned Milton presenting
- 39:57a prototype truck as being closer to market than it was.
- 40:01And I'm wondering if that's probably the Badger because that's been in the
- 40:05news and in talks for a while now.
- 40:08And I thought I remembered some news about that, that they were close, that they
- 40:12were close to, you know, getting that out.
- 40:15And obviously we haven't seen it yet.
- 40:17So, so I have one question.
- 40:19It's very important.
- 40:21Ford has the Raptor and Chrysler has the Hellcat and Chevy has the SS.
- 40:27Does Nicola have the honey, the honey badger?
- 40:31Yeah.
- 40:32There you go.
- 40:34What I want to know is when is GM going to pull out of this deal given the fraud
- 40:39allegations and how are the lawyers and everybody going to try to renegotiate the
- 40:43deal at a much more favorable cost to GM?
- 40:47Well, I think this, this is similar to the RIMAC conversation, right?
- 40:51At 11 percent they're not controlling.
- 40:54And it's something they can probably walk away from.
- 40:56And I'm not saying that's easy because, you know, we're, we're almost talking
- 40:59about this, like it's monopoly money.
- 41:01Porsche is going the other way with, with Bugatti and Rimac, where
- 41:03they're trying to invest more.
- 41:05They're, they're deepening their investment GM at 11%.
- 41:09I mean, they can take a loss, right?
- 41:11I hate to say it that way, but if it goes belly up, maybe who knows, maybe
- 41:15they end up buying out the technology, at least the patents or something.
- 41:18Cause sometimes company mergers aren't necessarily about what's produced.
- 41:22It's about what's sitting in the patent office that they want to
- 41:24get, you know, control that too.
- 41:26So, and I think this is all about, as you touched on the technology,
- 41:31um, because GM has been so slow to market with anything electric.
- 41:36I mean, they have to do something.
- 41:38This is almost like a Hail Mary pass for them.
- 41:40So what's, uh, what is Ford doing?
- 41:42So Ford, you know, they're not being left behind in this electric car race.
- 41:47Obviously we've, you know, they've got the Mach E that's coming out and
- 41:50it's going to be the next one out.
- 41:52And they've been talking about their electric Ford F 150.
- 41:56And that became a whole big thing.
- 41:57Once the Cybertruck got announced, there was all the comparisons against the gas
- 42:02F 150 and, and this, that, and the other.
- 42:04And, you know, they mentioned that they were working on, on the electric Ford, and
- 42:08my understanding is, you I do think they have a prototype and they've actually been
- 42:12putting it through a bunch of rigorous tests and mileage abuse and all that.
- 42:16They're definitely serious because they're going to set up their Rouge plant out
- 42:22in Detroit to build the electric car.
- 42:24Ford F 150 700 million plant that they are in the works to get up and running.
- 42:31And it's going to be the 2021 F 150.
- 42:34So I don't know how late in the year that is.
- 42:37We're obviously getting close to that.
- 42:38You know, what exactly.
- 42:40The F 150 is going to bring versus the Cybertruck.
- 42:43I mean, they're, they're staying to their Ford built tough, built strong, whatever
- 42:47their motto is that they always say, this is, you know, this is the truck.
- 42:51Even though it's electric, it's still going to be the truck.
- 42:53That's for a person who needs a truck, who knows how to use a truck, who gets
- 42:58down and dirty with their truck, not just.
- 43:00glorified garage queen and I'd like to drive trucks around not doing anything.
- 43:04They're keeping that stance.
- 43:06They want to make a, build a workhorse that's electric.
- 43:08Will it have normal windshield wipers?
- 43:11Uh, you know, if this photo is of the actual E 150, yes, it has windshield
- 43:17wipers and it has, I think, side mirrors.
- 43:19So do we have any numbers yet on the F 150 in terms of.
- 43:23Range, cause that's always important.
- 43:25I mean, I'd be interested in an electric F 150 if I could tow
- 43:29to the track with it, right?
- 43:30That's always another thing too.
- 43:31So we have any numbers there yet, or is that still to be determined?
- 43:35No, I don't think so.
- 43:36Cause this, um, this article out of Detroit, it's all very vague that, you
- 43:40know, it will be the fastest F 150 ever.
- 43:42It will be the most powerful.
- 43:44This, that, and the other, it's not going into any specifics yet.
- 43:47I mean, if they're still doing testing, they probably don't
- 43:50want to declare anything yet.
- 43:51That's a numbers aren't that good and they can rework things.
- 43:54They're going to want to wait.
- 43:55And I do find it interesting that while Ford is opening
- 43:58plants, Chevy was closing plants.
- 44:00Wasn't it late last year or over the summer last year that they were in fights
- 44:05with even the U S and Canadian governments because they were trying to close plants.
- 44:09And here Ford is.
- 44:10opening a 700 million dollar plant.
- 44:13Again, good for them, right?
- 44:14I mean, pushing the envelope, I can't say enough good things about that.
- 44:18Something's got to happen.
- 44:19So speaking of mileage and range, I mean, do you guys ever just feel a
- 44:24little bit overwhelmed with all this electric, like the range, the mileage
- 44:28and efficiency and all that stuff?
- 44:29I mean, it's something we all got to get used to.
- 44:33Gasoline, diesel, it's very, it's very simple to understand.
- 44:37You got this volume of liquid in it.
- 44:40Get you this far down the road and I think it's a little more challenging
- 44:43for some people to wrap their heads around the whole electric movement
- 44:46because you can't see electricity, right?
- 44:49I mean, if you're seeing electricity, shit's gone wrong.
- 44:52Um, but, um, consult your nearest physician.
- 44:56If you can see electricity.
- 44:58You might be a meta human.
- 45:00And you probably aren't seeing it for very long if you're seeing it.
- 45:03But yeah, so there was actually, um, Polestar.
- 45:07So that's Volvo's brand, one of Volvo's line of cars.
- 45:11And um, they're, the Polestar is going to be, they're coming
- 45:14out with an EV Polestar.
- 45:16And they commissioned a study because they wanted to do a little
- 45:20comparison against Their competitors around, you know, how far can we go?
- 45:24They wanted to compare themselves against a Tesla model three performance,
- 45:28the Jaguar I Pace and the Audi e tron.
- 45:32The test procedure conducted back in July, actually, but you know, the
- 45:35guy gather all the data and write the reports and everything, but
- 45:39they did it on a three mile oval at Fowlerville Proving Ground in Michigan.
- 45:45Pretty straightforward test.
- 45:46The cars were going to be driven slowly from the staging and charging
- 45:50area to the oval, and they were going to be at 100 percent charge.
- 45:54Once they got to the oval, they were going to be gently accelerated.
- 45:57Apparently at 0.
- 45:583 G to a GPS verified 70 miles an hour, at which point they'd be put
- 46:02into cruise control and they would all run spaced out from each other in the
- 46:06same lane at the test track, and they would keep running each car until it
- 46:11could no longer maintain a speed of 70 miles an hour due to battery depletion.
- 46:15So pretty simple test.
- 46:16That's fair.
- 46:17And there was a couple other things like they had to have their
- 46:19headlights on because that was.
- 46:21Test track rules.
- 46:22And, um, I think they ran the air condition all, all of them.
- 46:25They had them all set to the same temperature on the inside that, that
- 46:28this, you know, things like that, not a real world stop and go going up hills.
- 46:33It's the middle of winter test, but I mean, it's an interesting test.
- 46:37Everything is, seems fairly on an even plane.
- 46:40The results, I guess, not maybe shocking is the Tesla actually went the furthest.
- 46:47So it was able to do 234 miles.
- 46:50Which is apparently 75 percent of its stated range.
- 46:54The Polestar came in second.
- 46:56So it did 205 miles, which was 82 percent of its range.
- 47:00And the Jaguar came in at 188 miles, which was 80 percent of its range.
- 47:06And the Audi was pretty much spot on with the Jaguar at 187
- 47:11miles at 92 percent of its range.
- 47:14So.
- 47:15The percent of its range thing, I mean, I mean, it's an indicator.
- 47:19That's great.
- 47:20That's more how much sandbagging is kind of going on or over optimism
- 47:25with what your range numbers are.
- 47:27I think it's more interesting when you look at the cars in terms of kind of
- 47:32miles per kilowatt hour that they do.
- 47:34A different or a better test of this would have been if you wanted to incorporate
- 47:39The percent of Officially rated range, you have them all run the same distance
- 47:44and then calculate the percentage.
- 47:46So what's interesting is apparently the Audi Died on track It didn't have um,
- 47:52because because there's a set point none of the evs actually let the batteries
- 47:56fully discharge Also as soon as their the capacity started being diminished
- 48:00that it was more Strain on the battery to achieve the 70 miles an hour.
- 48:04It basically came in Apparently, I don't know what happened with the Audi.
- 48:07We're just like done.
- 48:09Audi electronics.
- 48:10That's what happened to the Audi.
- 48:12The other three cars, you know, pitted back in and apparently
- 48:16unfortunately makes me sad.
- 48:18I don't know.
- 48:18Maybe something happened there, but, uh, yeah, I don't know.
- 48:21It's just.
- 48:22And then the EPA ratings, it's, there's a lot of different ways that
- 48:26they measure it and there's different standards and testing and everyone
- 48:29comes up with different numbers.
- 48:30And depending on the test method, you get different numbers of approved ranges.
- 48:34So, I mean, this was all done on apples, apples.
- 48:37So based on the same EPA rating, so at least that's good, but I
- 48:41don't know what the best way is.
- 48:42I think the interesting thing is when you take the range.
- 48:45So if, you know, the Tesla, they say you can do 312 miles of range and it
- 48:51the 75 kilowatt hour battery pack in it, well that means you're able to go 4.
- 48:572 miles per kilowatt hour.
- 48:59That's actually really good because when you look at a lot
- 49:01of different EVs out there, 4.
- 49:04x mile per kilowatt hours is really high.
- 49:07So they're definitely at the top of the leaderboard in terms of that.
- 49:10But we're going to talk about the Fiat 500E in a little bit and not
- 49:15to spoil, but the new 500E, which only has a range of 199 miles.
- 49:20And you go, what a, Oh my God, it's doing that off of 42 kilowatt hour
- 49:24battery pack, which means it's doing 4.
- 49:287 miles per kilowatt hour.
- 49:30So it's actually doing better.
- 49:32Give it to the Italians.
- 49:34But the problem is when you look at these things, right.
- 49:36And that's what we're used to too.
- 49:37It's like, I don't, do I care as much if it's 4.
- 49:402 or 3.
- 49:419?
- 49:41I want to be able to go 350 miles without wondering where
- 49:47the electric charge station is.
- 49:48I mean, at, at the point we are right now, this early in development of
- 49:52electric cars and infrastructure, I mean, that's always tending to be
- 49:55the guiding conversation as well.
- 49:57What's my total range.
- 49:58It's like.
- 49:59I don't know if that's the whole story.
- 50:01And maybe as things evolve, that'll become less important because if
- 50:04charging stations are a dime a dozen, like gas stations, well, then.
- 50:07Wouldn't I want the 500E that gets 4.
- 50:097 miles to the kilowatt hour?
- 50:12No, I want to drive 350 miles without stopping.
- 50:15I mean, that's the whole annoyance is your trip becomes that much longer.
- 50:20So the, the less I can go, the more times I have to stop, but granted the bigger
- 50:24battery means it takes longer to charge.
- 50:26So you're going to eat it up one way or the other.
- 50:28It all comes out in the wash.
- 50:30Well, and it depends what you're using your car for too.
- 50:32If you're constantly doing long road trips.
- 50:35Okay, that's one thing.
- 50:36If you're commuting to work and the infrastructure becomes such that you go to
- 50:40your office and there's a charging station there because a lot of office places
- 50:44and even grocery stores and, you know, Target parking lot, there's now electric
- 50:49charging stations as the first couple, you know, parking spaces in the lot.
- 50:53Well, does it matter if I'm daily commuting with my car and I don't
- 50:57need to go 350 miles when my office is 12 miles away or 30 miles away.
- 51:01I plug it in when I get to work.
- 51:03Okay.
- 51:03Well, there's that.
- 51:04And you have to realize too.
- 51:06And, and I think this is the, this is the problem with the European offerings
- 51:11is they still think in a European way and cater to a European market.
- 51:15Because with your analogy, you're a hundred percent correct.
- 51:18Oh, well, it's three miles to work and back.
- 51:21I'll charge it.
- 51:22Electric makes sense because everything is so close.
- 51:25I mean, correct.
- 51:26200 mile range, you're going places.
- 51:29Right.
- 51:29But in America, Where we are very car heavy and very, very big range
- 51:36is super important because let me put it to you this way, my rolling
- 51:39cold diesel, I can make it to Watkins Glen from my house without stopping
- 51:45and I'll have fuel left over.
- 51:47So I look at the range and go, I can make it there.
- 51:49Towing the car with no problem or I can make it to wherever I have
- 51:53an effective range of x and that gets me six hours, eight hours,
- 51:5710 hours away or whatever it is.
- 51:59I don't want to be interrupted.
- 52:00Yeah.
- 52:01I need five minutes to grab a burger and go to the bathroom, but I don't want to be
- 52:05sitting there taking a week to take a trip that would normally take me six hours.
- 52:10Right.
- 52:10And that's the bigger problem we have.
- 52:12And I think that's.
- 52:13That's, that's the test that we need to see when these trucks,
- 52:16the F 150 and the cyber truck and whatever GM and, and, uh, you know,
- 52:21Nikola are going to come out with.
- 52:23We need to see a test similar to this with them pulling a load up a grade.
- 52:28How long is the battery going to last?
- 52:30How many battery charging stations are they going to put between here and
- 52:35national Corvette museum for example, or, or barber or road Atlanta is
- 52:40easy because you go up and down 95.
- 52:42But some of these other more obscure routes that we take to get to some
- 52:46of these racetracks I mean, how many are going to be up route 15?
- 52:50I guess that's a major trucking route.
- 52:52Uh, 81 definitely is.
- 52:53So going to Rhode Atlanta, you know, that would be fine, but unless
- 52:56it's a major route, you're not going to find a charging station.
- 53:00And then what are you going to sit in line with all the model threes
- 53:03and everything, and how are you going to pull your trailer in?
- 53:06Cause all of the charging stations I've seen you back into a parking spot.
- 53:10You can't back into a parking spot with a 16 foot trailer behind you.
- 53:14Right.
- 53:14I mean, the problem is.
- 53:16This is conversation that's saying that where we are today is
- 53:19where the future is going to be.
- 53:20No, be real.
- 53:21You know what?
- 53:22As more and more governments and countries ban gasoline and
- 53:25diesel engines, guess what?
- 53:26It's going to move it to electric and it's going to move the
- 53:28infrastructure there, which means maybe not in the next five years.
- 53:31In the next 10 years, the next 15 years, it's going to happen, but eventually
- 53:36the system is going to be there and it's going to be like we have gasoline,
- 53:39but it's growing pains right now.
- 53:40So you can't expect like a light switch that suddenly we have 500 mile
- 53:44range, electric vehicle, and there's a charging station every 30 feet.
- 53:48And in 10 seconds, my electric vehicle recharges.
- 53:50That's since we're talking about this, I want to use the E 150.
- 53:55We're going to call it not to be confused with the old Econo line, uh,
- 53:58E series Fords, the E 150 pickup truck.
- 54:01There's no excuse for that thing, not to have a thousand mile range,
- 54:05because when I eliminate that V8 from under the hood, those electric power
- 54:09plants do not take up a lot of space.
- 54:11If you've actually seen how big they are, they're tiny.
- 54:13So that front end engine compartment, if they're keeping the body of the
- 54:17F one 50, the same in the electric version, you should be able to
- 54:20put batteries up there that.
- 54:22Probably way the same as the V8 to keep everything proportional and to have
- 54:26that counterbalance, but should give you range from from here to Alabama and back.
- 54:31I mean, they're making it a frunk.
- 54:35So they're going to have an oversized frunk.
- 54:37That's a waste there.
- 54:38That's a waste.
- 54:39I don't I don't I think things will evolve.
- 54:41I forget which car it was.
- 54:43That's out now or that's going to be produced now, but it's one of the EVs.
- 54:46And they talked about being able to swap in and out battery packs.
- 54:50Well, guess what?
- 54:51If I can, if I can carry an extra 42 kilowatt pack in my new 500 electric and
- 54:57I swap it in in three seconds, guess what?
- 54:59Oh, I just went 400 miles.
- 55:01Yeah, but it better be the size of our IOBE battery pack.
- 55:04I mean, where are you going to store this stuff?
- 55:05I mean, that's, that's crazy talk.
- 55:07I mean, again, I got a frunk that I can put it in.
- 55:10Yeah.
- 55:11Yeah.
- 55:11So why isn't it a battery that's just there and is available to me?
- 55:14I don't know the answer to that.
- 55:15Cause I mean, I, I understand that.
- 55:18I understand that technology cause it comes from formula E.
- 55:21because they got away from having to put drivers in different cars to
- 55:24having the swappable battery packs.
- 55:26So it makes complete sense.
- 55:27I get it.
- 55:28It's, but it's no different than my cordless DeWalt, but I don't want
- 55:31to be carrying around a battery.
- 55:33That's the size of my car to have a spare battery.
- 55:36You can't, it doesn't make sense, whatever.
- 55:38I mean, again, we're evolving and every month we see something
- 55:41new, we see something different.
- 55:43That's why we have this segment of the show and it's exciting.
- 55:45So now what they could do.
- 55:48Is they could build batteries into the trailers or have a way where you can have
- 55:53the battery in the trailer and the charge can come, uh, there's 2 charging cables.
- 55:59So, 1, 1 cable on the trailer plugs into the lights and everything
- 56:02else for the rest of the truck.
- 56:03And you have another cable that plugs into a charging port on the back of the truck.
- 56:07So you can charge it, you know, when you need to, I mean, that's a, that's
- 56:10another thing they could do, I guess.
- 56:12And then you're selling trucks and trailers where you're harping
- 56:15on the trailer aspect of it, but I'm, I'm still looking at from
- 56:18the consumer perspective, right.
- 56:19And, and, and all the points you made are still valid, even if you had, and I look
- 56:23at it, let's say, Hey, you bought an E one 50, you got to back it into that spot.
- 56:28You had to do all those things.
- 56:29I mean, and right now, yes, there are charging stations at your local
- 56:32target or Walgreens or whatever, but there's two of them or three of them.
- 56:37You're acting like there's going to be two for the next hundred
- 56:39years, and that's not reality.
- 56:41Okay, one day, if you're truly going to change everyone to be fully
- 56:44electric, that means every parking space in the target parking lot is
- 56:47going to have an electric power thing.
- 56:49So don't act like, oh, this will never work because there's
- 56:53two charging stations today.
- 56:55We, we also live in this, this, in this idyllic mentality that we can all of a
- 57:00sudden just rip up the target parking lot and put 220 volt power lines going to
- 57:05every one of those parking spots that are only eight feet apart from each other.
- 57:10So when you multiply that out and you start multiplying out the grid that
- 57:14needs to be put into underneath the asphalt and the amount of power that now.
- 57:18Target is on the hook to deliver and all that.
- 57:20I mean, that's crazy.
- 57:22Reality is it was an exaggeration.
- 57:24The reality is you don't need a charging station, every single parking
- 57:27spot in the target parking lot.
- 57:29I mean, let's, let's live in a real world.
- 57:31Well, I, I will say that Eric, you mentioned that I keep
- 57:35bringing up the trailering.
- 57:36That's the one holdback that's keeping me from considering.
- 57:40Uh, if it wasn't for having to trailer and who knows, maybe I
- 57:43won't be doing that in the future.
- 57:45I don't know.
- 57:46I would 100 percent consider any of these electric cars because
- 57:50the range I think is fine.
- 57:52You can find the charging places.
- 57:54Yes.
- 57:54Right now it's a, it's inconvenient, but that's the price
- 57:58you pay to be an early adopter.
- 57:59And to Tanya's point, yes, this is not going to be the norm forever.
- 58:03We have to get.
- 58:03Past these growing pains, I'm sure there were issues with the internal combustion
- 58:07engine, then finding fuel and everything long back when in the early 1900s.
- 58:13So it's the same, similar thing.
- 58:15I think if it wasn't for the trailer, I would be all for these lectures.
- 58:20I would have a Mach E hands down.
- 58:23We're witness to a huge evolution and the Mach E for America is another evolution.
- 58:30You know, Ford's Mach E that's going to come out here soon.
- 58:33Uh, there is Ford of Europe and Ford of Norway.
- 58:36And apparently the CEO over there decided one day he wanted
- 58:41to test the range of a Mach E.
- 58:43And went from Oslo to Trondheim, Norway on a, on a little jaunt of 301 miles.
- 58:51And when he got to his destination, the infotainment panel said that the
- 58:56car still had 14 percent charge left.
- 58:58So that's pretty good range and the car is ranged at 300 miles.
- 59:06So it exceeded what Ford is saying the range of the Mach E is, and
- 59:10there was still capacity left on the battery to go further.
- 59:13So when you do a bit of math back and forth, the range
- 59:18should be about 350 miles.
- 59:20That beats just about three out of the four Teslas right now.
- 59:24So the thing with the test is it wasn't really a sanctioned test by any means.
- 59:29So like, there's really no, you have to take it with a bit of a
- 59:32grain of salt because we don't really know the conditions, what
- 59:35the weather was like that day.
- 59:37Is this guy a, you know, a hyper miler and he's just really good at, you
- 59:40know, eking out every little thing.
- 59:41He did it at midnight and there was absolutely no one else on the road.
- 59:44Like what speeds was he doing?
- 59:46I mean, I'm assuming Norway has hills, so I'm sure there was, it
- 59:50wasn't, you know, like driving through Texas dead flat or anything.
- 59:54So nonetheless, it's real world conditions.
- 59:57And if he really, truly on a full charge went 301 miles, he beat what
- 1:00:01Ford is saying is advertising on their website right now, saying that their
- 1:00:04range is 300, which means normally, you know, stated range of this,
- 1:00:08and they always do lower than that.
- 1:00:10So there's something going on here that maybe they've taken a very
- 1:00:13conservative approach to their ranging.
- 1:00:15And.
- 1:00:16If that's the case, what I find interesting is watch out Tesla.
- 1:00:20They're knocking on your door.
- 1:00:21And we've been saying this all along.
- 1:00:23Eric definitely gets on his soapbox about this.
- 1:00:25It was only a matter of time before the other major manufacturers
- 1:00:31caught up and surpassed Tesla.
- 1:00:34And Eric still holds the position that Tesla will be absorbed.
- 1:00:37Or defunct, you know, in the near future, because as these manufacturers
- 1:00:43with all this infrastructure get ramped up and catch up and surpass, Tesla's
- 1:00:48not going to have anything to do.
- 1:00:49And now following on with your, is Tesla still dominating?
- 1:00:53Registration numbers, so sales of cars in Europe is indicating
- 1:00:57Tesla is not in the top 10 at all.
- 1:01:00Interesting.
- 1:01:01Selling EVs right now.
- 1:01:03You know, Tesla doesn't exist.
- 1:01:04And you have at the top.
- 1:01:06Is the Renault Zoe.
- 1:01:08So it is the number one selling ev, and what I didn't realize is actually
- 1:01:12the Zoe's been around for a while.
- 1:01:14Next comes the Hyundai Kona, the VW E Golf, the Kia Niro, the PEO 2 0 8, the
- 1:01:21Nissan Leaf, the VW up, the Audi E-Tron, the Smart for two, and the BMWI three.
- 1:01:28Closes out the top 10 list.
- 1:01:30So that's pretty interesting.
- 1:01:32And to your point just now, Brad is like, yeah, it didn't, you know,
- 1:01:36Tesla had it from the beginning, but everyone's kind of said the same thing.
- 1:01:40It's like, it's not going to take the majors very long to catch up because
- 1:01:43they have all that infrastructure in place to build the cars.
- 1:01:46I mean, they can just retrofit retrofit platforms.
- 1:01:48Now, a lot of them are starting to completely redesign platforms
- 1:01:52from the ground up specifically for their electric models.
- 1:01:55Yeah.
- 1:01:56And it's a good opportunity for the majors to scrap some cars like Brad
- 1:02:00said earlier, like these 400 year old Mercedes platforms that have been around
- 1:02:04just for up since dinosaurs were new.
- 1:02:06It's like it's time to scrap them.
- 1:02:08And if you're in the middle of scrapping and redoing.
- 1:02:10It makes sense.
- 1:02:11Let's just make him an EV, but not only can they build cars that compete
- 1:02:16with Tesla and surpass Tesla, their build quality is significantly better.
- 1:02:21We've heard time and time again, issues and reviews about the
- 1:02:25Tesla's terrible build quality.
- 1:02:27Yeah.
- 1:02:27We'll comment on that a little bit later, but part of this.
- 1:02:30News is also that in general, EV registrations have increased pretty
- 1:02:36dramatically over the last year.
- 1:02:38July 2019, there was 8 percent of the vehicles being sold were electric.
- 1:02:44And July of this year, it's up to 18%.
- 1:02:47So there's definitely a shift happening across Europe and granted, a lot of
- 1:02:50that probably has to do with major city centers saying, Nope, you can't
- 1:02:54come here with your gasoline and diesel engines, um, and just general
- 1:02:58bands and plans to phase out ice cars.
- 1:03:02So, interesting news.
- 1:03:03And I will say, If that is foretelling of what's happening in
- 1:03:07the future, please run out and buy your ICE sports car now because you
- 1:03:12will not be able to in 10 years.
- 1:03:14That's very true.
- 1:03:15You know what this also article makes me a little sad because it just,
- 1:03:19it's like, Everything is in Europe.
- 1:03:22Like, how many choices there are?
- 1:03:24I mean, that was just ten choices.
- 1:03:26There's, I think, 38 different models of various electric cars
- 1:03:30currently that you can get, not including ones that are in the works,
- 1:03:33you know, to be built and whatnot.
- 1:03:35It's like, I feel like over here, it's, you know, Tesla or Tesla or my choices,
- 1:03:40and it's, or, you know, the Prius it's interesting that I feel like we are
- 1:03:43not hearing how Renault and Peugeot and, and all these other manufacturers
- 1:03:48have all these electric cars out.
- 1:03:49We don't hear that on this side of the.
- 1:03:51Once Stellantis takes root, we are going to hear about it because
- 1:03:54that's a massive merger there.
- 1:03:56And I think that's going to really put a shot in the arm in the American EV market.
- 1:04:00But on top of that, we recently saw some photos through a member of GTM
- 1:04:06that showed us the VW ID4, you know, we talk a lot about the Mustang Mach
- 1:04:10E and it has to be, you know, in our opinion, at least probably one of the
- 1:04:14best looking EVs on the market right now.
- 1:04:16It's cool.
- 1:04:17It's got that shooting brake design.
- 1:04:19It's attractive in person.
- 1:04:20But when I saw the Volkswagen and I am a diehard Volkswagen
- 1:04:23guy, I can't not admit that.
- 1:04:25It's very similar.
- 1:04:27And then I, for a second there, I went, well, I'd almost rather have
- 1:04:30the Volkswagen, you know, I don't even know the numbers right now, the ID4.
- 1:04:34I mean, I don't dislike the way the ID4 looks.
- 1:04:37It's, it's, uh, maybe a little more bubbly than we're used to.
- 1:04:41to seeing, and that's, that's a strong word to say, but it was a little more
- 1:04:45rounded than when we're used to seeing the new GTI is engulfed in a very
- 1:04:51angular in their headlights and all that.
- 1:04:53And, you know, this one's not like that.
- 1:04:55And I kind of like it, but in terms of numbers, I mean,
- 1:04:58I forget how much it costs.
- 1:05:00I think it was a little bit on maybe on what we would
- 1:05:02consider on the expensive side.
- 1:05:03And I would say in terms of its range capability, it's
- 1:05:07probably a middle pack EV.
- 1:05:09It's not up there with, you know, the miles per kilowatt hour of the Tesla,
- 1:05:13but it's not at the bottom, like the Jaguar I Pace or something like that.
- 1:05:17I was just going to say, I think to Tanya's point about how there are so
- 1:05:21many over in Europe, the few that they have brought here, like the e golf and
- 1:05:26the The Nissan LEAF and things like that, I think they just, they were
- 1:05:31not welcomed into the American market.
- 1:05:34Nobody bought them.
- 1:05:35Nobody cares.
- 1:05:36And it has to do with our emissions and our administration
- 1:05:41and the, you know, the government regulations and things like that.
- 1:05:43That just are not forcing people to change.
- 1:05:46But I'm actually looking forward to seeing more electrics come on the market
- 1:05:50just because it's something different.
- 1:05:53Speaking of best selling cars and whatnot, Porsche has the Tecan, which
- 1:05:58is their electric model, and it is the best selling Porsche in Europe right now.
- 1:06:04It is a good looking car, I gotta give it that.
- 1:06:07So in fairness, though, you need to say that if you group the Cayenne and
- 1:06:12its baby brother, the Cayenne Coupe, together, and you're calling those all
- 1:06:16SUVs, the Porsche SUV is the best selling.
- 1:06:18The biggest selling Porsche in Europe, but they actually had a table that
- 1:06:21broke down specifically by model.
- 1:06:23And so by differentiated model, the Taycan is the number one,
- 1:06:27like by pretty fair margin.
- 1:06:29I mean, number two is the 911.
- 1:06:31So, and, uh, the Macan actually is going to be getting, uh, an
- 1:06:35EV sibling, um, in the future.
- 1:06:38I think that one's still two years out though.
- 1:06:41God, I wish I was in the market for some of these cars.
- 1:06:43I wish I was in the market for a, for a Mach E.
- 1:06:46I would buy that the day it came out if I was in the market for something like that.
- 1:06:50It's got my attention, that's for sure.
- 1:06:52So what else is going on in this electrified world of ours?
- 1:06:55So we did mention the 500E earlier, and there's already a 500E
- 1:07:00that's available right now, but there's going to be the new 500E.
- 1:07:04And I'm not just saying like, Oh, it's new.
- 1:07:06Like new as in the new Beetle, the new 500.
- 1:07:10I think they're branding it now as the Fiat new 500 electric.
- 1:07:14Mentioning earlier about how a lot of folks are now starting to develop
- 1:07:18EV specific platforms for their EVs.
- 1:07:21This now is no longer, I guess.
- 1:07:24Assuming the current one is probably just a regular Fiat 500 ice that's
- 1:07:27been retrofitted for electric.
- 1:07:30They've actually redone the platform specifically for the batteries and
- 1:07:33whatnot and to that end getting dimensionally a little bit bigger.
- 1:07:37Brad, don't get excited because it's only a whopping six
- 1:07:40centimeters wider and longer.
- 1:07:43That's that is enough.
- 1:07:45That is enough room.
- 1:07:46Does, do I get six centimeters in roof height?
- 1:07:49That's what I want to know.
- 1:07:50No, I was, I was curious about that, but I didn't see that mentioned.
- 1:07:53They did say it's not that great if you got backseat passengers,
- 1:07:57which it's like, yeah, okay.
- 1:07:58I mean, none of the Fiat 500s were ever great.
- 1:08:00If you needed to put someone in the backseat, I mean, it's not that great.
- 1:08:04Or in the front seat if you're six foot eight and listen to, uh, this, this
- 1:08:08month's, uh, big man, little car episode.
- 1:08:11Well, you know, if you're a normal sized, well, well, average size.
- 1:08:16Italian.
- 1:08:17Stereotypical normal person, the Fiat 500s.
- 1:08:20It was great.
- 1:08:21I mean, for me, you know, five foot six or seven, I mean,
- 1:08:24there was plenty of room in it.
- 1:08:26If I was Tanya's size, I'd drive in a bar three.
- 1:08:28I know, right?
- 1:08:29But for the anti metric people out there, six centimeters is just over two inches.
- 1:08:34So that's significant for a Fiat 500 if you think about its size.
- 1:08:39It's a 500L now.
- 1:08:40Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
- 1:08:41It's probably more along the lines of the 500L.
- 1:08:44In terms of its, its range, I mentioned it earlier that it's only
- 1:08:47going to have a You know, 199 mile range, which is actually higher over
- 1:08:51double what the current 500 E can do.
- 1:08:53So they've done a significant upgrade in terms of their range capability.
- 1:08:57And that's all done with a pretty small battery pack.
- 1:08:59It seems I only see any of these people increasing range, increasing
- 1:09:03capacity out of their batteries, right?
- 1:09:05Especially as technology evolves.
- 1:09:06But the interesting thing is, you know, as they're retweaking it, they
- 1:09:10mentioned in terms of styling, they're definitely trying to, already the
- 1:09:13Fiat 500 was a retro redesign, right?
- 1:09:16It very much looks like, it's very reminiscent of the original one.
- 1:09:19Well, this one is going to take even more cues off the original one,
- 1:09:23which it can do because if they're redesigning it from the ground up.
- 1:09:27The original had the engine in the back, so you don't have to worry about all that
- 1:09:30front end cooling airflow stuff, right?
- 1:09:32They can make the front end look, you know, a little bit more reminiscent
- 1:09:35of the original, which is what they're going to do, and they said there were
- 1:09:38some other accents and features, and even in the interior was going to be
- 1:09:41more reminiscent of the original 500.
- 1:09:44So I think that's kind of exciting, just because the 500's an icon,
- 1:09:47whatever the mileage it gets.
- 1:09:49It's a fun, great little car, so I'm excited to see it, and hopefully,
- 1:09:53we should get it, hopefully.
- 1:09:55So if they do an electric panda, will it be called the Pandy?
- 1:09:59I don't care what it's called!
- 1:10:00If they do it like some of those mock ups, I will, I will buy it!
- 1:10:05Okay.
- 1:10:08Ladies and gentlemen, this woman has a fascination with the panda.
- 1:10:12If you don't know about it, check the website.
- 1:10:14It is, it is pretty deep and ongoing, but, but with that, what else is on the docket?
- 1:10:20Yeah.
- 1:10:20So jumping back before we talk about, I think the Tesla again, we
- 1:10:24were talking about the Tesla range and this, that, and the other.
- 1:10:27And actually an article came out the other day, about the
- 1:10:30new Tesla that's coming out.
- 1:10:32Before I talk about that, I want to hit on the Lucid Air, which I feel like is
- 1:10:38a very fly under the radar car so far.
- 1:10:41So if you don't know anything about Lucid, the company, they apparently
- 1:10:45were first founded back in 2007 as, uh, That's a sugar replacement, right?
- 1:10:52I hope I'm pronouncing it right, I apologize.
- 1:10:55You're now called Lucid Air, much easier to pronounce.
- 1:10:57That company started out making all the high performance batteries for Formula E.
- 1:11:01Okay, so you're telling me off the bat that you hopefully know something about
- 1:11:05electric cars and batteries, right?
- 1:11:07And the interesting thing is, so the car, the Lucid Air, the electric
- 1:11:10sedan that they're coming up with, is taking direction from former
- 1:11:14Tesla Model S lead engineer, Mr.
- 1:11:16Peter Rawlinson.
- 1:11:17So, I'm pretty sure this guy knows a thing or two as well, and they're touting
- 1:11:24that their luxury electric sedan is going to have a thousand horsepower.
- 1:11:30517 mile range, and it is going to be priced for the faint of heart.
- 1:11:35I mean, it's going to be anywhere from 80, 000 to 169, 000, depending
- 1:11:40on the package options and whatnot.
- 1:11:42And a couple of days ago and, and someone else actually posted today
- 1:11:46about the same thing as the Tesla, not to be outdone, they had their battery
- 1:11:49day event two days ago on the 22nd of September, and they announced the.
- 1:11:53The plaid version of the model S that they've been talking about for a little
- 1:11:57bit now, but apparently it's actually going to come to fruition and it's
- 1:12:01going to have 1100 horsepower and a 520 mile range and cost 140, 000.
- 1:12:08So, I mean, it's definitely.
- 1:12:10In terms of, you know, the insanity of what these two vehicles are priced,
- 1:12:14they're definitely side by side competitors, very close to each other.
- 1:12:19And Tesla just eked out stats that are slightly better than, than the Lucid Air.
- 1:12:24So we'll see what comes of that in terms of the styling of the Lucid Air.
- 1:12:28I don't know that I'm in love with it.
- 1:12:31I don't think I like this weird chrome trim piece that they seem to
- 1:12:34have across the front of the hood.
- 1:12:36I think that detracts from it.
- 1:12:37I think if they got rid of that, it would probably be a
- 1:12:39much more elegant looking car.
- 1:12:41I mean, I think that's the 13th Cylon.
- 1:12:45It definitely looks like something out of Battlestar Galactica.
- 1:12:48But, uh, yeah, we'll just leave it there.
- 1:12:50I don't know.
- 1:12:51We'll see what it is.
- 1:12:52We'll see if they can do fit and finish better than Tesla.
- 1:12:55We'll see if they have to design their cars with Home Depot parts.
- 1:12:58But what are you talking about?
- 1:13:00It's ironic that a lack of craftsmanship revealed a lack of craftsmanship.
- 1:13:05So we've all kind of heard these horror stories about the fit and finish of Tesla.
- 1:13:08It's not there because they're not known for manufacturing
- 1:13:11cars like all the majors.
- 1:13:13They haven't been doing this for very long and they, you know, there's
- 1:13:16been a lot of complaints from people on Tesla forums about doors not
- 1:13:19aligning and, and panels, panels.
- 1:13:22Being, having gaps and this, that, and the other.
- 1:13:24And I guess this one fellow posted in a Tesla forum, his discovery, because
- 1:13:28as he was trying to address all these panel gaps in his frunk that were
- 1:13:32bothering him after he spent tens of thousands of dollars on this car.
- 1:13:35And I think Tesla wasn't going to help fix it.
- 1:13:38He removed a lot of the, the frunk paneling and underneath the frunk is
- 1:13:43where the liquid cooled condenser sits and is where he discovered that it
- 1:13:48was installed using metal strapping.
- 1:13:50And the article from Jalopnik jokes about, you know, what is this shit found
- 1:13:59at Home Depot, you know, in this car.
- 1:14:02And it didn't sound like this was the only Tesla to have been found with this kind
- 1:14:08of what I'm going to consider patchwork.
- 1:14:10Okay, maybe something happened, you changed the size of this
- 1:14:13condenser and suddenly your mounting system no longer worked.
- 1:14:18But I feel like any of the other majors would have stopped production,
- 1:14:22got engineering to fix the problem before they, you know, rolled out
- 1:14:26all these cards with the patch.
- 1:14:27I'm pretty sure the hope is, well, no one's gonna go dismantle their
- 1:14:30frunk and go find this thing.
- 1:14:31So what we'll do is we'll just fix it during the next, you know service interval
- 1:14:36or have a special recall and update it once they get the engineering figured
- 1:14:40out but it's like wow really maybe it's because elon musk is south african we all
- 1:14:47forget that and that's british adjacent and therefore tesla is just being built
- 1:14:52like all the other british boutique cars as we discuss and you guys will
- 1:14:56hear on our british car owners episode.
- 1:14:59They're just cobbled together.
- 1:15:00It's cobblers all the way down, as John Wade would say, right?
- 1:15:03And these are high class cobblers.
- 1:15:04I wish more manufacturers would do this.
- 1:15:07I would love nothing more than to be able to run down to the Home Depot and
- 1:15:12get all my parts to rebuild my car.
- 1:15:15I mean, if you look at any old Lotus.
- 1:15:17How about with a Morgan?
- 1:15:19Morgans are made of wood, just go get some 2x4s and get it done.
- 1:15:22You know, you read the comments section and there's, there's nuggets of joy.
- 1:15:26You know, I 100 percent agree.
- 1:15:28You know, that's, it's one thing when you find yourself stranded somewhere,
- 1:15:32and the only thing you have is Home Depot to help fix your car to get
- 1:15:36your ass home, and you do that.
- 1:15:37But when you pay 30, 000, 60, 000, 80, 000 for a car?
- 1:15:43You really?
- 1:15:44I don't want it taped together.
- 1:15:46I mean, come on now.
- 1:15:48Tesla could have avoided all of this if they painted it all black.
- 1:15:52If they painted the wood pieces black and they painted the tape black or
- 1:15:55used black painter's tape or whatever.
- 1:15:58Carbon fiber.
- 1:16:00Yes, yes, yes.
- 1:16:00It's carbon fiber, wood paneling.
- 1:16:04Meanwhile, you flip it over in the Home Depot barcodes on the bottom
- 1:16:07with the aisle number on it where you can pick the replacement part up.
- 1:16:10Can I return it?
- 1:16:12The receipt was accidentally left in the trunk.
- 1:16:17Oh man, that's brutal.
- 1:16:19Oh, Tesla.
- 1:16:20Oh boy.
- 1:16:22Speaking of Tesla, uh, we're going to do a little bit of an update on the Tesla
- 1:16:26model three performance that whooped ass at Buttonwillow a few months back.
- 1:16:32Basically Randy Pope's took that, I think that very car from unplugged
- 1:16:36performance and they decided they were going to try and run Pike's Peak.
- 1:16:38I think that was the plan all along.
- 1:16:40He didn't have a lot of fun.
- 1:16:42During the practice session, he went off track.
- 1:16:45I mean, there's videos of it everywhere online.
- 1:16:47You can find those.
- 1:16:48We'll post a link.
- 1:16:49Um, yeah, he went off and destroyed the car pretty much, but after a lot of
- 1:16:54ingenuity and a lot of hard work, they were able to get the car back together.
- 1:16:58Uh, and it went out, it ran its session and it ended up second in class.
- 1:17:03So, as much as we like to harp and give Tesla crap and, you know, electric cars
- 1:17:09aren't going to be race cars and all this, that, and the other, I would like
- 1:17:11to give a round of applause to Randy Popes for posting a pretty impressive
- 1:17:15time up that really challenging and dangerous hill climb that is Pikes Peak.
- 1:17:20So, good job.
- 1:17:21Congratulations.
- 1:17:21And thankfully, he was unharmed.
- 1:17:23from that crash, which was pretty epic looking and very scary.
- 1:17:27Actually, when you consider there was a cliff on the other side, so he was
- 1:17:31four wheels in the air at one point.
- 1:17:33Basically what happened was there was a, there was a dip in the Hill.
- 1:17:37It basically lost traction.
- 1:17:38And when it came back down, it got squirrelly and he
- 1:17:40wasn't able to recover it.
- 1:17:42And he, so.
- 1:17:43airborne and basically just slammed into the side of the mountain.
- 1:17:48I believe they call that a nosedive.
- 1:17:50Yes.
- 1:17:51There you go.
- 1:17:51Yes.
- 1:17:52Nosedive into, into the rocks there.
- 1:17:54And I mean, he's, it's very, I'm, I'm happy that he's, he's unharmed.
- 1:17:58He was able to, you know, Basically walk away and get in a couple
- 1:18:01of days later and redo the run.
- 1:18:02So definitely a round of applause for him.
- 1:18:05So let's round out our electric car segment with one more piece of news.
- 1:18:08What do we got?
- 1:18:09I think Tanya has got some Christmas shopping ideas for us.
- 1:18:13Do you remember the Bugatti baby two?
- 1:18:17Oh man, did they got a Bugatti baby three?
- 1:18:19That's my pair of shoes.
- 1:18:22No, but Aston Martin doesn't want to be outdone by Bugatti.
- 1:18:29And they too are offering an electric kitty version of one of its iconic cars.
- 1:18:35The DB5.
- 1:18:37Oh, James Bond.
- 1:18:43It's Jimmy Bond Jr.
- 1:18:46So it's not for your everyday person.
- 1:18:49Okay, it's rich people stuff again.
- 1:18:52So let's just.
- 1:18:53She's like, I, you get it?
- 1:18:56Rich people doing rich people things yet again.
- 1:19:00Let's just calibrate here for a second.
- 1:19:02Okay, because 60, 000.
- 1:19:06For your child to have an electric car.
- 1:19:08Now, wait a minute.
- 1:19:09That out, that outspends the Bugatti.
- 1:19:11Wasn't the Bugatti 58 or something like that?
- 1:19:14The actual cost range.
- 1:19:15Cause of course there's different models.
- 1:19:17Right.
- 1:19:18You get one as low as 47, 000 or as high as 60, 000.
- 1:19:23Now you're absolutely right.
- 1:19:24The starting price of the baby too was 35, 000, but it's top of the
- 1:19:29line speed key, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:19:32With 68, 000 68.
- 1:19:35That's what it was.
- 1:19:36So they are in line with each other.
- 1:19:38Okay.
- 1:19:39And not only that, so there's, so there are two models of the DB five electric
- 1:19:43junior, the junior it's top speed is 30 miles an hour with a 20 mile range.
- 1:19:49And then there's the Vantage model, which goes faster.
- 1:19:53And that's all they said.
- 1:19:54So I don't know how much faster it goes, but it goes faster.
- 1:19:57And if you recall the baby too, it also had a 30 mile range.
- 1:20:01And then it's expert mode would go 30 miles an hour, but then the speed key is
- 1:20:06what brought it up to 42 miles an hour.
- 1:20:09So I can only assume that the DP five is going to be something
- 1:20:11on par with the Bugatti and be around 40 miles an hour as well.
- 1:20:15The real question is, is there a James Bond version that has like, I don't know,
- 1:20:19oil slicks to come out of it or something.
- 1:20:22That's way better than the speed key.
- 1:20:24I need all the booby traps and grenades and smoke.
- 1:20:27And on that note, I think it's time to make some donuts as we go behind the
- 1:20:32pit wall for some motorsports news.
- 1:20:35So if you're like me and fall asleep watching most F1 races,
- 1:20:39you'll have noted that this past weekend there was no F1 race on TV.
- 1:20:43The reason is because Le Mans was on instead.
- 1:20:46And many of you have might have forgotten that it was postponed from the
- 1:20:50traditional Father's Day weekend in June until the 19th and 20th of September.
- 1:20:56So I'm going to wrap it up for you real quick.
- 1:20:58Toyota won because they're the only car in their class.
- 1:21:02They forced Rebellion basically to put a car that is realistically a LMP2 car into
- 1:21:08P1 so that Toyota had somebody to compete with because everybody else is pulled out.
- 1:21:13That being said, even during qualifying, Rebellion came out and said they stood
- 1:21:18absolutely no chance against the Toyota.
- 1:21:21I will hand it to Bruno Senna that he did a fantastic job piloting that car.
- 1:21:26They positioned second in qualifying, but he said that was pretty much
- 1:21:31the best lap they were going to get out of the car and it was not
- 1:21:34repeatable for 24 hours straight.
- 1:21:36The other thing that Rebellion said, had the weather been less than
- 1:21:40optimal, the race would have basically been immediately over for them.
- 1:21:44They are still in a rear wheel drive Gibson powered car,
- 1:21:48you know, standard petrol V8.
- 1:21:50The Toyota is a hybrid and it's all wheel drive.
- 1:21:54So in less than optimal conditions, they were going to
- 1:21:57win as long as they didn't wreck.
- 1:21:58So again, my, my applause to Bruno and his team.
- 1:22:01We talked about him on our gentlemen drivers episode, but they
- 1:22:05ended up at the end of 24 hours.
- 1:22:06They were five laps plus down from Toyota.
- 1:22:09And realistically.
- 1:22:12Lmp2 was more of the same.
- 1:22:1427 cars that look exactly the same with different liveries on them.
- 1:22:17And you could care less about who was driving the real race as always was
- 1:22:22in GT pro, unfortunately, this year, Porsche pulled out, Corvette pulled out a
- 1:22:27bunch of other manufacturers pulled out.
- 1:22:29And that left a really interesting battle between Aston Martin.
- 1:22:34and Ferrari.
- 1:22:34And that was really the race to watch amongst the four races that
- 1:22:38are going on at all the same time.
- 1:22:40That was the one to watch.
- 1:22:41Aston and Ferrari were really tight.
- 1:22:44The racing was good, lots of back and forth, but in all
- 1:22:47honesty, it was Aston's race.
- 1:22:50They have a better car.
- 1:22:51The Ferrari is older technology in comparison to the new Aston, but
- 1:22:55overall, that was a great race.
- 1:22:57I'm sad to see that Corvette pulled out.
- 1:22:59It would have been nice to have the Corvette in there just to mix it up.
- 1:23:02I can also understand why Porsche pulled out.
- 1:23:04However, there were Porsche's campaigned by privateers in GT pro.
- 1:23:09Those were the number 91 and 92 car, but unfortunately they
- 1:23:12came in sixth and seventh due to issues with pit tires, et cetera.
- 1:23:16And at the end.
- 1:23:17We have the GT AM class or the amateur class.
- 1:23:20And if you want to know about that, just listen to our gentlemen drivers episode,
- 1:23:24because that pretty much summarizes everything that happened in that race.
- 1:23:27Because otherwise there were just cars lapping the track
- 1:23:30and they're rolling chicanes.
- 1:23:32So overall, Le Mans was uneventful.
- 1:23:34No major wrecks that were really of any substance.
- 1:23:38You know, just some breakdowns, this and that, it was just 24
- 1:23:41hours of cars going around.
- 1:23:42It was cool to see it on multiple streaming platforms for a change where
- 1:23:47you didn't have to get velocity that only like three people have access to, you
- 1:23:53know, it was on Motor Trend and Motor Trend was then showing it on Hulu and
- 1:23:56showing it in other places and streaming it, you know, via multiple services.
- 1:23:59So accessibility to Le Mans this year was really, really good.
- 1:24:04It was very strange though to watch it and notice that there was
- 1:24:08nobody else on track outside of the cars, the teams, and the marshals.
- 1:24:13There was nobody in the grandstands, there wasn't your
- 1:24:15typical people at the fence line.
- 1:24:16It was very barren and so it made it a very somber experience to watch Le Mans.
- 1:24:21I still watch it because it's tradition.
- 1:24:23Overall it was a solid race, but I look forward to next year.
- 1:24:27Two more little tidbits on the LeMans race this year.
- 1:24:30Uh, one, one of the drivers in the first place car was Brendan Hartley.
- 1:24:35Some of you may know that name from Formula One a couple years ago.
- 1:24:39I believe he was racing for, uh, then was Toro Rosso.
- 1:24:42I don't know if he ever got into the actual Red Bull proper car, but he was
- 1:24:46racing in Formula One a couple years ago.
- 1:24:48Uh, and then also that red Aston Martin.
- 1:24:52Oh my God.
- 1:24:53Yeah.
- 1:24:53That car made my heart skip a beat.
- 1:24:55That car was beautiful.
- 1:24:56I'd never seen an Aston Martin in that color.
- 1:24:58Uh, the green ones are cool and all, but that red one was just like, so a
- 1:25:02little bit of news from NASCAR, but you all know who Michael Jordan is, right?
- 1:25:06You know, basketball player has five or six rings with the Chicago
- 1:25:09bulls, arguably the greatest basketball player of all time.
- 1:25:12He also owns the Charlotte Hornets.
- 1:25:15Michael Jordan is partnering up with Denny Hamlin for a new one
- 1:25:18car NASCAR team, and it's going to run in the cup series next year.
- 1:25:22And their driver is going to be Bubba Wallace, who, if you might remember, was
- 1:25:26recently with Richard Petty Motorsports.
- 1:25:29He left Richard Petty in July.
- 1:25:30And I guess now we know why.
- 1:25:32Denny Hamlin is a minority owner in the team, but he will continue to race
- 1:25:37for Joe Gibbs racing next year, 2021.
- 1:25:40The thinking behind this is that Michael Jordan has been watching NASCAR.
- 1:25:44You know, he's been a huge fan of NASCAR ever since he was a little kid.
- 1:25:47He grew up in North Carolina.
- 1:25:49His parents took him to races and everything, him and his family, his
- 1:25:51brothers and siblings and everything.
- 1:25:53Uh, and they, it's just a sport that he loves.
- 1:25:56He's excited about the recent changes in NASCAR, especially over the last year.
- 1:26:01With the, the new diversity that they're bringing to the sport, the exclusion of
- 1:26:05the confederate flag or the banning of the confederate flag and things like that.
- 1:26:09Uh, so he is hoping to bring even more diversity to the sport and give
- 1:26:13minorities a place to come and bring more people that wouldn't otherwise
- 1:26:19be interested or even know or have a chance to participate in NASCAR.
- 1:26:24He's giving them a platform to be able to come in and And just show
- 1:26:27them that you can do this too.
- 1:26:29I'm excited for the jump man, racing suits and the air Jordan helmets,
- 1:26:36the Jordan special branding, but I have to say, given his history with.
- 1:26:42how he's run the Charlotte Hornets organization.
- 1:26:45Their team is not very good.
- 1:26:47Hopefully he lets Denny Hamlin and Bubba Wallace kind of take over
- 1:26:50controls of the NASCAR team and let them kind of do their thing.
- 1:26:54But I'm excited.
- 1:26:55I like Bubba Wallace.
- 1:26:56I think he's a great personality.
- 1:26:57I think he's a great guy.
- 1:26:58I follow him on Instagram and I'm looking forward to seeing him do
- 1:27:02some good things in NASCAR next year.
- 1:27:04Switching to some local news.
- 1:27:05This time autocross.
- 1:27:07So as you guys know, you can go to WDCR SECA.
- 1:27:11org and look up solo for autocross schedule in our local area.
- 1:27:15They, as we've mentioned on multiple episodes, they pretty much have the
- 1:27:18lion's share of events in the DMV.
- 1:27:20However, there are other groups like PCA and etc.
- 1:27:23and even the Corvette Club that run their own events outside of, you
- 1:27:27know, let's all go to FedEx field and drive through a sea of cones.
- 1:27:32The Corvette Club still has two events left on the schedule in October.
- 1:27:36They're at the BWI overflow lot, and they will be held on
- 1:27:40October 4th and October 25th.
- 1:27:42You can learn more about going to a Corvette Club autocross by visiting www.
- 1:27:47vet.
- 1:27:48com.
- 1:27:48Dash club dot O R G.
- 1:27:50And all the information is there on their newly redesigned website,
- 1:27:53which looks really, really sharp.
- 1:27:55In addition to that, we've recently partnered with Dave
- 1:27:58Peters and the folks over at H.
- 1:28:01P.
- 1:28:01D.
- 1:28:01E.
- 1:28:01Junkie dot com who deliver up to date schedules for all the D.
- 1:28:06E.
- 1:28:06Events around the country and soon to include Canada.
- 1:28:11And we've most tightly integrated with their website
- 1:28:14through our tool, paddock pal.
- 1:28:16And that can be found at www.
- 1:28:18paddock pal.
- 1:28:19com, which is your track site assistant, giving you track travel information, uh,
- 1:28:24information about the, about the event, you know, scheduling, one lap information,
- 1:28:28weather conditions, et cetera.
- 1:28:30So we've integrated HPDE Junkie into Paddock PAL so that you can get
- 1:28:35more information on when the next event Is going to be at whatever
- 1:28:38particular track that is in our system.
- 1:28:41Now, kind of looking at it, just in a general area to talk about the big
- 1:28:44tracks, uh, looking at HPD junkies website right now, summit point has
- 1:28:49about 10 events left in the year from September, the end of September
- 1:28:54here through the end of November.
- 1:28:56Watkins Glen has another four events to go, including an event in October
- 1:29:01that we'll probably be going to.
- 1:29:02it in with hooked on dri to that, V.
- 1:29:06I.
- 1:29:06R.
- 1:29:07Has abo to go, including hooked o the Audi club, all runnin through almost december.
- 1:29:22In the DMV and you can get all that information and direct links to where
- 1:29:27to register and get more information on all those events by visiting hbdejunkie.
- 1:29:32com and we thank them for that information.
- 1:29:34In addition to that, congratulations to Sam Harrington, one of our members
- 1:29:39on winning the Northeast Conference Championship for the 2020 SCCA season
- 1:29:45in the Formula Enterprise 2 class.
- 1:29:48We wish him the best of luck as he continues his journey.
- 1:29:51at the runoffs starting at the beginning of October, which are
- 1:29:56going to be held at Road America.
- 1:29:58If you want to follow Sam's progress, we've uploaded the entire runoff schedule,
- 1:30:03which if you read it in its original form, it's really hard to follow.
- 1:30:06We uploaded it to Patek Pal.
- 1:30:09to include qualifying and race day so you can follow his progress throughout
- 1:30:14the week and when to tune in to look at the live feeds and live streams that SCCA
- 1:30:19will be broadcasting during the runoff.
- 1:30:21So we're hoping to cheer on Sam.
- 1:30:22We will talk more about his runoff experience in the October
- 1:30:26episode of the drive through.
- 1:30:28Go Sam, go!
- 1:30:30For all the coaches out there, a little bit of information came
- 1:30:33across our desk from track days.
- 1:30:34They've put out some new guidance and I think this is a common theme
- 1:30:38amongst many DE organizations.
- 1:30:41So I'm going to read this verbatim.
- 1:30:44We've had some requests for instructors to get back in the cars.
- 1:30:47There seems to be a mix of instructors that are not ready and those that are.
- 1:30:51On the other side of the coin, there are students that are ready for in car
- 1:30:54instruction and those that are not.
- 1:30:56If you're ready to get back in the car, please indicate to your group
- 1:31:00leaders, chief instructors, et cetera, when you register for these events.
- 1:31:04So organizations are now asking to And I've seen this personally on events
- 1:31:09that I've recently coached in where they want to know, are you doing in car?
- 1:31:12Are you doing lead follow?
- 1:31:14Are you just not comfortable with the whole thing in general?
- 1:31:16And as we move into the fall with flu season coming around, potential of
- 1:31:20COVID resurfacing, et cetera, obviously we're all at maximum awareness.
- 1:31:24We're all at maximum concern.
- 1:31:26We want to stay safe, but a lot of the DE organizations are pulling back and
- 1:31:31now making it basically coach's choice.
- 1:31:34If they want to get back in the car.
- 1:31:36If they want to do lead follow, but if you do get back in the car,
- 1:31:40please remember your PPE, right?
- 1:31:43Your personal protective equipment, you know, mask up, do what you need to do.
- 1:31:47I can personally attest to the fact that the chatterbox is still work.
- 1:31:51If you're wearing a mask inside your helmet, all that kind of
- 1:31:53thing, it's not a big deal.
- 1:31:55So if you find yourself out in Ohio, outside Columbus in mountain Vernon,
- 1:32:00Ohio, you could find yourself at the Power Wheels drag racing event on
- 1:32:07September 26th, which is only in two days, people, so get yourselves out there.
- 1:32:11This is a children's drag racing event using Power Wheels, and there is a 12
- 1:32:17volt stock and 12 volt modified class, as well as a 24 volt modified class.
- 1:32:23There's some pictures of cute little kids in racing helmets, and um, All
- 1:32:27sorts of, you know, Corvette Power Wheels and whatever else, Mercedes
- 1:32:32GLS Power Wheels and all these things.
- 1:32:35So it seems like it's probably a really fun event for the kids.
- 1:32:38I want to know, who's bringing their DB5 Jr.
- 1:32:42or their Bugatti Baby 2 to this?
- 1:32:44We need to know.
- 1:32:45So if you're out there, you see these at this event, I want to
- 1:32:50know what it does in the quarter.
- 1:32:51I mean, we talked about what they do at Pikes Peak, but
- 1:32:54this is way more interesting.
- 1:32:56Two other pieces of motorsport news here as we wrap up record setting motorcycle
- 1:33:01racer, Ralph Hudson died this month.
- 1:33:04He was involved in a 252 mile an hour crash.
- 1:33:08He's a 69 year old veteran motorcycle racer, and he holds several speed
- 1:33:14records, including reaching 300 miles an hour on the Bonneville salt flat.
- 1:33:19So a motorcycle legend has passed.
- 1:33:22We're sad to see that him go, but you know, an incredible story.
- 1:33:26If you look into his history, I mean, that's again, we've said it many times.
- 1:33:30Motorcycle riders.
- 1:33:31It's a whole nother level of just.
- 1:33:34Adrenaline and ambition and craziness there compared to us guys with
- 1:33:39the four wheels on the ground.
- 1:33:41In addition to that, Netflix is apparently making a drama around Ayrton Senna.
- 1:33:46It's going to come out sometime in 2022.
- 1:33:50It will be filmed in English and in Portuguese, and it'll be an
- 1:33:53eight episode fictional miniseries based on the life of Ayrton Senna,
- 1:33:57according to Variety Magazine.
- 1:33:59It will dive into Senna's personality, family relationships, and illustrious.
- 1:34:04Kicking off following his racing debut with his move to England, where he
- 1:34:09ran Formula Fords, uh, that was after he finished carding and all that and
- 1:34:13in Sao Paolo and it will end with his championship and his tragic death at
- 1:34:17the San Marino Grand Prix at Imola.
- 1:34:19Honestly, if you've watched the Senate documentary, this movie or this,
- 1:34:24Mini series does not need to exist.
- 1:34:27I'm still gonna watch it because I'm a fan, but it to
- 1:34:30me It just doesn't make sense.
- 1:34:31I don't know what there is to elaborate what there is to embellish If you've
- 1:34:35read his biography or watched the documentary, you know, he was a playboy,
- 1:34:39you know, even though somewhat modest.
- 1:34:42He was still larger than life.
- 1:34:43He's, he's a hero.
- 1:34:44He's a national hero in Brazil.
- 1:34:46He's a fan for many of us that grew up in the eighties.
- 1:34:48Again, curious to see what they do with this, but not a hundred percent necessary.
- 1:34:52I don't like the fact that they've given away the ending.
- 1:34:55Now there's no chance for a second season.
- 1:34:58Yeah.
- 1:34:58It's pretty much like Titanic.
- 1:35:00And to add to your Christmas list, and we'll talk about this more in our holiday
- 1:35:04shopping episode, keep your eyes out on the Garmin Catalyst driving trainer,
- 1:35:10which is now being sponsored in part by Ross Bentley, who many of us know through
- 1:35:14Speed Secrets and his many webinars.
- 1:35:16And he's come to personally coach some of us through the
- 1:35:19Motorsport Safety Foundation.
- 1:35:20And he makes guest appearances at many clubs.
- 1:35:22He is involved in a aim like device, which looks like an old school Garmin that
- 1:35:28you'd have up on your dashboard, GPS base.
- 1:35:30And it's designed to coach you through a lap, make you faster, work with you.
- 1:35:35Um, kind of eliminates the human factor, but it uses a bunch of AI to analyze
- 1:35:39your laps and make you go faster.
- 1:35:41Before we move on though, I want to say about that Garmin, I pray.
- 1:35:46That the person giving guidance and, uh, advice and stuff, the
- 1:35:50computer, the AI, that's talking back to you is Arnold Schwarzenegger.
- 1:35:54It's got to be.
- 1:35:55Dude.
- 1:35:55I, uh, I still want to get to the chopper.
- 1:35:58If you do not take the turn and get the apex, you got to get to the apex is out.
- 1:36:02You must track out.
- 1:36:05Oh my god, that's my tortilla Anyway I will say the price tag is hefty on this
- 1:36:11thing And if it wasn't for that boy, does it look gorgeous the the user interface
- 1:36:16in it and everything like that I mean, whoo looks like it would be a high
- 1:36:19quality product, but outside my budget I think we all gasped at the price, but
- 1:36:23it is cool Price competitively against the aim solo two, and especially the
- 1:36:28solo two DL, the ones that offer the OBD two services and things like that.
- 1:36:32So I don't think it's too far off.
- 1:36:34It's a little shocking because a lot of us don't think you bought
- 1:36:37your aim so many years ago.
- 1:36:39And it's one of those tried and true devices that you've made the investment
- 1:36:42and it pays for itself over the years.
- 1:36:44This is the next generation of a tool like that.
- 1:36:46Now, I, what I'm really excited for is what's aim going to come up with.
- 1:36:51In retaliation to this device from Garmin because Garmin's the
- 1:36:55new kid in this space, right?
- 1:36:58But we need to really move into our combined section now of
- 1:37:03would you like fries with that?
- 1:37:04Where we've scoured the world looking for the best in car adjacent news.
- 1:37:09We might be remiss without a little bit of COVID car adjacent news, I suppose.
- 1:37:14I think we're all aware because it was in the news quite a
- 1:37:17bit leading up to the event.
- 1:37:19During the event, after the event, uh, the yearly Sturgis motorcycle rally,
- 1:37:24a lot of people were very concerned prior to this event taking place that
- 1:37:27it was going to be bringing, you know, thousands of people that weren't going
- 1:37:31to be socially distant and using masks.
- 1:37:35Et cetera, et cetera, lo and behold, it's exactly what happened at the event.
- 1:37:40And then, you know, the bigger headlines were 250, 000 cases of, you know, the
- 1:37:45coronavirus because of the surges rally.
- 1:37:47And, you know, that, that got people excited.
- 1:37:50And then there was back checking.
- 1:37:52Well, you know, really probably wasn't 250, 000.
- 1:37:54And that was really a number that was just kind of generated from predictions
- 1:37:58of what, you know, the worst case could be at the end of the day.
- 1:38:01None of us really know what the true numbers are.
- 1:38:04It's probably accurate to say that COVID was probably brought to this small town
- 1:38:09of South Dakota if it wasn't already there as a result of this, um, event.
- 1:38:13I'm sure that, you know, it wasn't zero cases.
- 1:38:15We're still in this thing, whether you want to believe it exists or not.
- 1:38:19We all got to do our part, um, so we can get through it.
- 1:38:22So just, just be mindful of that.
- 1:38:23All right.
- 1:38:24So I've got a question.
- 1:38:26So we're still in an age of remakes, sequels, and all that, right?
- 1:38:31Yeah.
- 1:38:32We're still living in this, in this age.
- 1:38:35So who thinks it's time for a Ben Hur redo?
- 1:38:39What?
- 1:38:40So I know this sounds ludicrous, and what am I talking about?
- 1:38:45And nobody wants to see horse chariot racing, but what if, in
- 1:38:48this modern remake of Ben Hur, it was motorcycle chariot racing?
- 1:38:53What?
- 1:38:54So they're riding motorcycles being pulled by horses?
- 1:38:58I don't get it.
- 1:38:59No, they're riding a chariot being pulled by motorcycles.
- 1:39:03Oh, wait a minute.
- 1:39:04How does that work?
- 1:39:06I don't know, honestly, how this could possibly work.
- 1:39:12Is this legit?
- 1:39:13This is legit.
- 1:39:14Apparently, this was a popular form of motorsport in the 1920s and 30s.
- 1:39:20You can look this up.
- 1:39:21There's an article, there's lots of vintage pictures in there of these people
- 1:39:25literally in, in the chariot wagon.
- 1:39:28And, and they've got straps attached to the throttles on these motorcycles.
- 1:39:33And apparently that's how they're controlling and steering, I imagine,
- 1:39:37because I, I don't think they were just going in a straight line.
- 1:39:40And, you know, they talked about, you know, the really adventurous guys
- 1:39:43would have more than one motorcycle.
- 1:39:45And I'm like, there was a picture of like a dude with like three motorcycles
- 1:39:48in front of his little chariot wagon.
- 1:39:50I mean, on a scale of what?
- 1:39:57I mean, this is pretty far on the dumb AF side.
- 1:40:00I, I think you're, I think you're wrong.
- 1:40:03This is clearly from the onion.
- 1:40:05This can't be real.
- 1:40:06I mean, this just reinforces that motorcycle riders are on a completely
- 1:40:10different planet than the rest of us.
- 1:40:13You know, I didn't do, you know, in fairness, I didn't do a lot
- 1:40:16of fact checking around this, but it originated in Florida.
- 1:40:20It might have, I mean, these look like legit photos.
- 1:40:25Um, unbelievable facts.
- 1:40:27com, uh, has this article on motorcycle chariot racing was a
- 1:40:31real sport in the 1920s and 1930s.
- 1:40:34And then they have, I think at the end of the article, They've
- 1:40:36got some more modern age photos.
- 1:40:39People still doing this apparently.
- 1:40:41These guys got a west coast chopper style motorcycle pulling
- 1:40:44their little chariot wagon thing.
- 1:40:46Let's move on from that.
- 1:40:49We think that's crazy.
- 1:40:51Well, we can go to a crazier town.
- 1:40:55There is, what could possibly go wrong speeding around well in excess of
- 1:41:00100 miles an hour on public highways in an 1100 horsepower DIY Audi RS3?
- 1:41:07What could go wrong?
- 1:41:08That's legit.
- 1:41:09I think absolutely nothing could possibly go wrong.
- 1:41:12It says home built.
- 1:41:13Oh good.
- 1:41:16Well, we got to do something now that Garrett's declared bankruptcy, right?
- 1:41:19You can build your own turbo.
- 1:41:21So I'm gonna cut right to the chase on this one.
- 1:41:23A brake line breaks on this car that's doing almost 150 miles an hour.
- 1:41:28Brake fluid obviously spews out onto the hot brakes, which then ignite, and
- 1:41:35essentially by the time they get the car stopped, because they didn't have any
- 1:41:38brakes, the whole freaking thing goes up in flames because a fuel line melted and
- 1:41:42then everything catches on fire basically at this point i i i mean i like there's
- 1:41:51a video because these guys were go proing this whole thing and they were their
- 1:41:55street racing there was other people in um mclaren and And then the GTR, this,
- 1:42:01that, and the other, and they were doing hot pulls on the highway and all those
- 1:42:03shenanigans that you shouldn't be doing.
- 1:42:06And so there's footage of the in car and the dialogue between
- 1:42:09the driver and the passenger.
- 1:42:10And then there's some later GoPro footage of the other people that saw the
- 1:42:15car sparks and smoke coming out of it.
- 1:42:18But I do imagine that it must've been pretty terrifying to be going
- 1:42:22that fast, have smoke start coming into the car and then realize
- 1:42:26that you don't have any brakes.
- 1:42:27But these people were buffoons.
- 1:42:31Oh, man.
- 1:42:32Okay.
- 1:42:33At one point, the passenger asks, Can you turn the motor on and downshift?
- 1:42:38To which the driver answers, No, it's dead.
- 1:42:41So, they have that conversation about turning the car on.
- 1:42:44They can't turn the car on.
- 1:42:45Shortly after, in the GoPro in car footage, you see the
- 1:42:48passenger door has opened.
- 1:42:50And they're still going.
- 1:42:51They're going.
- 1:42:52Quick.
- 1:42:53And you hear this scraping noise in the video.
- 1:42:57Yes, we're trying to Fred Flintstone this thing.
- 1:43:00Laughter.
- 1:43:03And at least the response was accurate.
- 1:43:06My foot not gonna do shit.
- 1:43:09You're damn right it's not at like 60 miles an hour how fast you
- 1:43:13still were going at this point.
- 1:43:15All right, then the next thing we hear, I don't want to put you into the wall.
- 1:43:20To which I'm assuming it's the driver talking to his car and not concerned
- 1:43:25about like, you know, the passenger side, the passenger going into the wall.
- 1:43:29Um, but honestly, I think at this point, that's probably what I
- 1:43:32would have done in this situation.
- 1:43:33Well, I would have been in the situation to begin with, but if I found myself
- 1:43:37in a situation where I couldn't stop my car and this is nighttime, there's
- 1:43:41not a lot of people around, I mean, pull up gently next to the jersey wall
- 1:43:45and scrub some paint from the video.
- 1:43:47They just kept going perfectly in the lane as if they also apparently had.
- 1:43:51A parachute that they couldn't deploy for some reason or another.
- 1:43:55Oh, you buy all this stuff on eBay.
- 1:43:57I mean, what do you expect?
- 1:44:00I don't, I don't know.
- 1:44:01I mean, I imagine there's, there's a, there's a lot of
- 1:44:03panic that was probably going on.
- 1:44:05So I'm sure they're not thinking clearly about all their options.
- 1:44:08I mean, there was a lot of, Oh my God, we got to get out.
- 1:44:10We got to get out.
- 1:44:11How do we get out?
- 1:44:12Nonetheless, eventually they, they creeped the car to a stop.
- 1:44:16And then some of the other street racers, they were there, they, you know, they
- 1:44:20came rushing up, they had these little baby fire extinguishers and they were
- 1:44:23trying to, you know, extinguish the flames that were now coming out of the hood.
- 1:44:26I will say at least a very intelligent thing happened at
- 1:44:29this point when someone said.
- 1:44:32Don't open the hood.
- 1:44:34I mean, despite the fact that you probably couldn't touch the hood for
- 1:44:37how hot it was with, you know, flames shooting out from under it, but you
- 1:44:40know, it would have been catastrophic to lift the hood and introduce all
- 1:44:43that oxygen and feed that fire.
- 1:44:46So thank goodness they didn't do that.
- 1:44:48The second intelligent thing was, One of the guys saying, I'm not
- 1:44:51going to go back and get my GoPro.
- 1:44:53He damn right.
- 1:44:54You shouldn't go back.
- 1:44:55The freaking car is on fire and golden flames at this point.
- 1:44:58But the footage, that's some pretty awesome footage.
- 1:45:02I mean, he did later, like you see him, he's holding the GoPro.
- 1:45:05So I guess it didn't.
- 1:45:05So kudos to a GoPro.
- 1:45:07It didn't melt.
- 1:45:07It did look like it had a little bit of.
- 1:45:09damage, but it didn't, it didn't melt.
- 1:45:11So, and they had all this footage.
- 1:45:12So clearly the GoPro survived.
- 1:45:14So kudos to GoPro.
- 1:45:15The video goes on for a while.
- 1:45:16You see what they're saying.
- 1:45:18Oh, the tire just exploded.
- 1:45:20Like, and you see these big pops and stuff, which is probably possible
- 1:45:23with all the heat and flames coming out right there against the rubber.
- 1:45:26But I mean, I got one thing to say about that.
- 1:45:29Good luck on that insurance claim, bro.
- 1:45:31Total loss.
- 1:45:32Perhaps the lesson here is not the street race.
- 1:45:34Take your 1100 horsepower to your local track, folks, and do it safely.
- 1:45:38The hits keep on coming.
- 1:45:40I'm gonna read this headline because I thank my local radio
- 1:45:43for giving me these nuggets.
- 1:45:45And this is a North Dakota man.
- 1:45:47Combine crash.
- 1:45:49Man arrested for DUI after flipping farm equipment.
- 1:45:52So for anybody who doesn't know what a combine is, it's a gigantic
- 1:45:56harvester, essentially, okay?
- 1:45:58It's a gigantic piece of farm equipment.
- 1:46:00And I don't know much about farm equipment, but based on the picture
- 1:46:03of the flipped over combine, I could tell that it is John Deere.
- 1:46:08And I could see the model number, so I looked it up.
- 1:46:11So it's an S670 John Deere Combine.
- 1:46:15Because I was curious, how do you flip farm equipment?
- 1:46:18Because I imagine they're pretty heavy.
- 1:46:20And so I want, I looked it up, because I want to know how much one weighs.
- 1:46:23So, any guesses?
- 1:46:25I'm going to go 50 tons.
- 1:46:28I'm going to say 50 and a half.
- 1:46:31And a half.
- 1:46:34And one dollar, Bob.
- 1:46:35One dollar.
- 1:46:36So, so that's high.
- 1:46:37That's very high.
- 1:46:38Was it like 27?
- 1:46:40You're getting closer.
- 1:46:41So, my research indicates that with attachments, It weighs
- 1:46:4541, 178 pounds, so 20 tons.
- 1:46:50Take the attachment off, which, based on the photo, either it was never
- 1:46:53on to begin with or it came off in the flipping, um, you drop two tons.
- 1:46:58So, this person managed to flip 18 to 20 tons of metal in a field.
- 1:47:07Presumably.
- 1:47:08I can't tell where exactly he was.
- 1:47:10I got one answer for this.
- 1:47:12How?
- 1:47:14How?
- 1:47:14I got one answer.
- 1:47:15One answer.
- 1:47:16Aliens.
- 1:47:17I mean, this reminded me of cars where they go tractor tipping.
- 1:47:21You know?
- 1:47:23I love the fact that he was driving the combine.
- 1:47:26Because they revoked his driver's license from an earlier DUI.
- 1:47:30I mean, Don't drink and drive people.
- 1:47:33Maybe he ran over the attachment part with the tractor and then he flipped it over.
- 1:47:39I mean, that's so, I mean, you're in the middle of a field.
- 1:47:41What the hell?
- 1:47:42He was pulling a grave digger.
- 1:47:44Or he discovered a landmine left over from World War II.
- 1:47:48The tractor looked pretty, or the combine looked pretty intact, so.
- 1:47:51I'm just giving you, I'm giving you possibilities for an
- 1:47:55unexplainable scenario here, okay?
- 1:47:58Your alien scenario sounds the best so far.
- 1:48:01Let's go a little further north and show that it's not just our friends.
- 1:48:05Florida or North Dakota or Michigan.
- 1:48:07You know, I'm disappointed by this next one because I, I, I, I tend to hold our
- 1:48:11northern neighbors in pretty high regard.
- 1:48:13There's some, there's some top notch folk that I've met coming
- 1:48:16out of Canada, but such is life.
- 1:48:19There's always one that ruins it for the rest of us.
- 1:48:22And in this case, They're giving self driving cars a really bad rap.
- 1:48:26So a Canadian driver of a Tesla was found asleep at the wheel
- 1:48:29doing 150 kilometers an hour.
- 1:48:31So for us, south of the border, that's more or less 90 miles an hour.
- 1:48:35They were on a Canadian highway where most speed limits are 110
- 1:48:39kilometers an hour or 70 miles an hour.
- 1:48:42Obviously, This is incredibly reckless, and not at all how Tesla
- 1:48:47Autopilot is intended to be used.
- 1:48:50So, soapbox time.
- 1:48:51Wake up, fools of the world.
- 1:48:53Alright, this stuff isn't fully autonomous, okay?
- 1:48:56You cannot go to sleep and not expect to rear end a slow moving
- 1:49:00tractor trailer and die, okay?
- 1:49:02Oh, brutal.
- 1:49:03Off the soapbox.
- 1:49:04So, the best part, the driver had the seat fully reclined.
- 1:49:09And not just the driver!
- 1:49:11But there was a passenger as well.
- 1:49:14So there are two fools in this story.
- 1:49:16Were the tray tables down also?
- 1:49:17You need to be in your upright and locked position at all times.
- 1:49:21And I have to say, I've got an argument or I've got an issue
- 1:49:24with the self driving car part.
- 1:49:26There's no such thing as a self driving car.
- 1:49:28There are cars with self driving capabilities.
- 1:49:31But there's no such thing as a self driving car.
- 1:49:34No, and it irks me because it's really not even, it shouldn't
- 1:49:38even be called self driving.
- 1:49:39We should be calling it driver assistance.
- 1:49:40Because until these things become fully autonomous, then
- 1:49:44they will be self driving.
- 1:49:45Now, there's a confusing part to the article, and I want
- 1:49:48to see what you guys think.
- 1:49:49So I'm going to read it verbatim, okay?
- 1:49:51The car appeared to be self driving, traveling over 140 kilometers an hour.
- 1:49:57With both front seats completely reclined, and both occupants appearing to be asleep.
- 1:50:02After the police flashed their lights, the Tesla electric vehicle reportedly
- 1:50:06sped up to exactly 150 kilometers an hour.
- 1:50:10According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
- 1:50:13I really confused about why did it accelerate?
- 1:50:18So it turned into a getaway car.
- 1:50:21I have no idea.
- 1:50:23Like I literally had to read that several times.
- 1:50:25I don't understand why they even mentioned it, but maybe it is a self driving Tesla.
- 1:50:30He wanted to get away.
- 1:50:32So nonetheless, this driver was charged for speeding, given a 24 hour
- 1:50:36license suspension for driving while fatigued and further was slapped
- 1:50:40with dangerous driving charges for which they have to appear in court.
- 1:50:43So all, uh, deserved fail in life.
- 1:50:46So we talked earlier about off roaders.
- 1:50:48We talked about the Bronco.
- 1:50:49We talked about the Jeeps.
- 1:50:51I talked a little bit about the new Range Rover Defender that's coming out.
- 1:50:54But let's talk about off roading in general and something that you're not
- 1:50:58supposed to do when you go off roading.
- 1:51:00And one thing you're not supposed to do is drive down a hiking or bike trail.
- 1:51:04And in California, one driver figured that out the hard way.
- 1:51:08There's an article on The Drive about a California man that took his Jeep
- 1:51:12Wrangler that looks fairly stocked.
- 1:51:14You know, looking at it, it looks like he's got big tires and
- 1:51:16that's, you know, pretty much it.
- 1:51:17Not too much else going on here.
- 1:51:20And he drove up a bike trail, uh, near Loma Linda on the, it
- 1:51:24looks like the West Ridge Trail.
- 1:51:26And there's a part of the trail where it gets super narrow, and on
- 1:51:29either side of this, what looks to be like a maybe three or four foot
- 1:51:33trail, it's just drop on either side.
- 1:51:36And this guy got this car stuck, freaked the F out, and just rolled.
- 1:51:41Now there's a jeep just parked on top of this bike trail, on top of
- 1:51:45a mountain, and it's just there.
- 1:51:47So there's talk, how are we going to get it out?
- 1:51:50People have suggested use a helicopter, you know, and go in and lift it out.
- 1:51:54That's really the only way.
- 1:51:55Uh, they could get a couple other jeep people to drive illegally to get
- 1:51:58to it and then try and haul it out.
- 1:52:00Anything like that is probably going to upset the balance and it's probably going
- 1:52:03to end up falling down and if any winch is attached It's probably going to end
- 1:52:07up taking the recovery vehicle with it So if you're looking for a jeep and you're
- 1:52:12up for a challenge Please go to Loma Linda to the West Ridge bike trail and
- 1:52:16hiking trail and see if you can get one.
- 1:52:19So speaking of cars falling off of things.
- 1:52:22A Michigan man.
- 1:52:23Oh god.
- 1:52:24Back to the great state of Michigan.
- 1:52:26A 26 year old Michigan man pulled what reporters called a dukes of hazard over
- 1:52:33the Fort Street drawbridge in Detroit.
- 1:52:35Reports say the bridge began to rise.
- 1:52:38The man gunned it in his Dodge Sedan.
- 1:52:42It's unclear how wide the opening was at this point, but he nonetheless
- 1:52:45made it to the other side.
- 1:52:47Quite what one may have seen in the Dukes of Hazzard show, the
- 1:52:51man did not keep speeding away.
- 1:52:53He blew out all four tires on landing and then smashed into the
- 1:52:57safety gate on the other side.
- 1:52:58Ha ha ha ha ha!
- 1:53:00In his Dodge Stratus.
- 1:53:02Was it or was his Stratus orange?
- 1:53:04I was hoping there was more information on the car, but they
- 1:53:07just left it at Dodge Sedan.
- 1:53:12I mean, oh God.
- 1:53:13Well, that's why he blew everything out.
- 1:53:15He did it with the wrong car.
- 1:53:17He needed a charger.
- 1:53:18So last but not least.
- 1:53:20We'll close out with a little bit of proof.
- 1:53:22There's crazy people all over the world.
- 1:53:25And this next one brings us across the pond to a London woman who fell
- 1:53:31out of a car onto a busy highway while filming a Snapchat video.
- 1:53:36I agree with the police.
- 1:53:38It truly is lucky that she wasn't seriously injured or killed, or let
- 1:53:41alone somebody else be traumatized by hitting her on the highway.
- 1:53:45But think of the views.
- 1:53:47But the best, the best part of the article.
- 1:53:50And I assume this is in response to a Twitter post from the London police.
- 1:53:54Quote, asked by a user, if officers explain the dangers of the attempts
- 1:53:59to the woman, the police replied, every chance they worked it out
- 1:54:03before we spoke to them about it.
- 1:54:05This wasn't the first time this woman dangled out of a car on the
- 1:54:10highway, trying to do Snapchat videos.
- 1:54:13I mean, was it the first time she fell out?
- 1:54:18Those are all on TikTok instead.
- 1:54:20So you know, she was doing some stupid, you know, happy hands dance.
- 1:54:24Like she's doing the flo, she's doing the floss like out the window of the car.
- 1:54:28Kiki, do you love me?
- 1:54:30Are you riding?
- 1:54:31Let me fall out on the freeway.
- 1:54:36Oh, that's good.
- 1:54:38That's rich.
- 1:54:39Wow.
- 1:54:39I mean, we know no bounds when it comes to this sort of stuff.
- 1:54:44Thank you to the world for, for giving us this.
- 1:54:47Maybe she could have taken a ride on the front of a tractor trailer
- 1:54:49like the guy from last month.
- 1:54:51I mean, you know, it all comes full circle.
- 1:54:53There's so many ways.
- 1:54:54Next month, Combine tried to be taken across Detroit drawbridge.
- 1:54:59The Combine was used to pull the Jeep off of the bike trail.
- 1:55:02I don't know.
- 1:55:03And in our final segment, the secret sauce, we cover very
- 1:55:07quickly GTM specific news.
- 1:55:09We got a lot of really great episodes to look forward to.
