- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, Discos, need a little more disgrace Land in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast Welcome
- 0:12Speaker 1: to Disgraceland the after partie Happy New Year Discos. I
- 0:31Speaker 1: hope you and your families are having a great holiday
- 0:33Speaker 1: season and you guys are set up for a healthy
- 0:35Speaker 1: and happy twenty twenty five. Speaking healthy, I'm a bit
- 0:39Speaker 1: under the weather. Excuse my voice, it's a little raspy.
- 0:41Speaker 1: I'm a little congested. I hope you can hang with
- 0:44Speaker 1: me for the next thirty forty five minutes here. I
- 0:46Speaker 1: got a lot of stuff I want to talk to
- 0:47Speaker 1: you about. There's a very short list of musicians who
- 0:51Speaker 1: died on New Year's Day. This week's full episode subject,
- 0:53Speaker 1: Hank Williams is at the top of that list. Next
- 0:56Speaker 1: in line is a country artist who did all he
- 0:58Speaker 1: could to emulate Hanks, hard living Ways, Towns, van zandt
- 1:02Speaker 1: And after that the list pretty much ends. You know,
- 1:04Speaker 1: there are some session players, b listeners, but hardly any
- 1:08Speaker 1: musicians of note other than Hank in Towns who kicked
- 1:11Speaker 1: on New Year's I think Ricky Nelson died on New
- 1:14Speaker 1: Year's Eve, and my point is it's a very short list,
- 1:18Speaker 1: but nevertheless, the end of the year it's a good
- 1:21Speaker 1: time to reflect and to list out some of the
- 1:23Speaker 1: things that we're grateful for, or that we're excited about,
- 1:25Speaker 1: or we want to talk about other things that are
- 1:27Speaker 1: on the horizon, or things that we just experienced in
- 1:30Speaker 1: the past year. And one of the parts of this
- 1:33Speaker 1: job that I don't talk about enough is, in addition
- 1:36Speaker 1: to all the great stories that this research on Earth's
- 1:40Speaker 1: for me, it also reveals a treasure trove of obviously
- 1:43Speaker 1: incredible content from some of the greatest artists and entertainers
- 1:48Speaker 1: from history. The research gives me reason to revisit classic
- 1:51Speaker 1: albums and movies that I haven't listened to or watched
- 1:53Speaker 1: in a while, turns me on to music and films
- 1:56Speaker 1: that I may have missed the first time around that
- 1:57Speaker 1: just aren't part of my growing up, my formative years. Whatever.
- 2:02Speaker 1: We used to do a recommendations section in the after
- 2:05Speaker 1: party that was pretty popular, So I thought that for
- 2:07Speaker 1: the end of twenty twenty four, here I'd recommend to
- 2:10Speaker 1: you a handful of my favorite music in movies unearthed.
- 2:14Speaker 1: While researching this year's past batch of episodes, just a handful.
- 2:18Speaker 1: I can't do all of them. Obviously, we released like
- 2:20Speaker 1: a thousand episodes this year. It's not quite a list,
- 2:24Speaker 1: but one could make a short listening or a short
- 2:27Speaker 1: watch list out of this episode if they were so inclined,
- 2:30Speaker 1: and easily occupy themselves for a whole weekend with some
- 2:33Speaker 1: great content, if not more so, here's a small batch
- 2:37Speaker 1: of recommendations for y'all have taken to the new year.
- 2:39Speaker 1: So back in the beginning of twenty twenty four, we
- 2:41Speaker 1: released an episode on Serge Gainsburg, and I mentioned this
- 2:44Speaker 1: at the time, and it's worth repeating. The movie about Surge,
- 2:49Speaker 1: it's called Surge Gainsburg A Heroic Life, might be the
- 2:51Speaker 1: best musical biopic that I've ever seen. I haven't yet
- 2:55Speaker 1: seen the Dylan biopick A Complete Unknown. I hoped to
- 2:58Speaker 1: go a couple of days ago. I was gonna bring
- 3:00Speaker 1: my son when we were in Boston. It just it
- 3:03Speaker 1: didn't work out, and I wanted to go this weekend.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Hopefully I can feel and feel better and go to
- 3:08Speaker 1: the movie theater and not get people sick. So anyways,
- 3:11Speaker 1: I haven't seen the movie, so I can't judge that
- 3:14Speaker 1: movie against this Gainsburg movie. The Gainsburg movie doesn't have
- 3:18Speaker 1: Timothy Shallomey in it. Okay, just so you know, so
- 3:20Speaker 1: it's got that going for it. I'm kidding, but not really.
- 3:24Speaker 1: I'm I'm not that big of a fan of Timothy
- 3:25Speaker 1: Shallo May, but I'm holding out hope that he'll surprise
- 3:28Speaker 1: me in the Dylan movie. But back to Surge Gainsburg
- 3:32Speaker 1: A heroic life. There is nothing like this movie, which
- 3:35Speaker 1: is totally fitting because there was no one like Serge Gainsburg.
- 3:39Speaker 1: The movie. It pulls absolutely no punches, it makes no apologies.
- 3:44Speaker 1: It's gritty, it's fantastical, it's ugly, and it's beautiful all
- 3:49Speaker 1: at the same time. I highly recommend this film. And
- 3:51Speaker 1: whether you're a Surge Gainsburg fan or not, if you've
- 3:54Speaker 1: never heard of Serge Gainsburg, you're like, who the fuck
- 3:57Speaker 1: is this guy? Talk Surge what? This is a great
- 3:59Speaker 1: place to start. It's one of these movies that if
- 4:01Speaker 1: you were just like channel surfing one afternoon on your
- 4:04Speaker 1: couch and you came across this, the look of it
- 4:07Speaker 1: would just pull you in immediately. You would be completely
- 4:10Speaker 1: intrigued by the character at the center of it, and
- 4:12Speaker 1: you would end up watching it no matter where you
- 4:13Speaker 1: started in the film, regardless of you if you had
- 4:17Speaker 1: any idea at all who this musician was, and if
- 4:20Speaker 1: you don't know who Serge Gainsburg is, well, first of all,
- 4:23Speaker 1: go back and listen to the Disgraced Land episode that
- 4:25Speaker 1: we produced on him back in the beginning of twenty
- 4:27Speaker 1: twenty four. But just second, he's a fantastic, fantastic musician
- 4:33Speaker 1: whose career was completely unique second half of the twentieth century.
- 4:38Speaker 1: French songwriter turned crooner turned controversial artists, who created songs,
- 4:46Speaker 1: who created albums in multiple genres, and was always at
- 4:50Speaker 1: the vanguard of pop culture. I can't recommend Serge Gainsburg enough,
- 4:56Speaker 1: and I can't recommend this film enough either. It's fantastic.
- 4:59Speaker 1: And if looking for a Surge Gainsburg album to pair
- 5:03Speaker 1: this amazing film with, whether you're a Surge Gainsburg fan
- 5:06Speaker 1: or not, they look no further than history. Dave Melody Nelson.
- 5:10Speaker 1: It's from nineteen seventy one, but sounds like you could
- 5:12Speaker 1: have been made in two thousand and one. You're gonna
- 5:14Speaker 1: hear all kinds of modern artists who are influenced by
- 5:17Speaker 1: this record when you listen to it, especially back. Okay,
- 5:19Speaker 1: so that's history. Dave Melody Nelson. The record by Serge
- 5:23Speaker 1: Gainsburg in the movie is Serge Gainsburg Heroic Life. Check
- 5:27Speaker 1: these out, all right. My oldest son asked me a
- 5:30Speaker 1: couple of weeks ago if there are any great punk
- 5:31Speaker 1: rock documentaries that we could watch, and I kind of
- 5:34Speaker 1: drew a blank, and then I thought about The Clash
- 5:37Speaker 1: and West Way to the World. It's a two thousand
- 5:40Speaker 1: documentary made by the legendary Don Letz. I didn't think
- 5:44Speaker 1: about this movie right away when my son asked me
- 5:46Speaker 1: this question because the movie itself has taken on kind
- 5:50Speaker 1: of mythical status in the past few decades. It's so awesome,
- 5:54Speaker 1: it just it seems more. It seems like more than
- 5:56Speaker 1: a documentary. The live footage in this film, Well, have
- 6:00Speaker 1: you reaching for your guitar and speed dialing your friends
- 6:03Speaker 1: to get to come over and start a punk band
- 6:04Speaker 1: with you. This is an amazing film. It's exhilarating. When
- 6:10Speaker 1: I think of this movie, I think of the Clash
- 6:11Speaker 1: album Give Him Enough Rope. I don't know, I don't
- 6:13Speaker 1: know why, but for whatever reason, I think of mc
- 6:15Speaker 1: jones a lot when I think of that record and
- 6:17Speaker 1: I think of mc jones a lot when I think
- 6:19Speaker 1: of West Way to the World because the mc jones
- 6:21Speaker 1: stuff is intense, fantastic film. Check it out West Way
- 6:25Speaker 1: to the World and if you don't know, give him
- 6:27Speaker 1: enough rope. Check that out. If you do know it,
- 6:29Speaker 1: put it on. I feel like that's an overlooked one
- 6:31Speaker 1: from the Clash's repertoire and it's fantastic. So another wreck
- 6:35Speaker 1: here from one of our more popular episodes of twenty
- 6:38Speaker 1: twenty four, the Anthony Bourdain episode. I think it was
- 6:41Speaker 1: like the number three most downloaded one behind River Phoenix.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Maybe I don't know. I don't know who the top
- 6:49Speaker 1: two were. I know Boardain was and then he kind
- 6:51Speaker 1: of fell off, fell off the top of the block there.
- 6:53Speaker 1: But in the Anthony Boardeen episode we talk about Josh
- 6:57Speaker 1: Home from Queens of the Stone Age a bit, and
- 7:00Speaker 1: it's just got to be mentioned that the Queen's Record
- 7:03Speaker 1: Rated R is incredible and it should be part of
- 7:06Speaker 1: any self respecting rock and roll fans collection. And for
- 7:08Speaker 1: those of you still on holiday break with some time
- 7:10Speaker 1: to kill after you binge, a bunch of Disgraced Land episodes, including,
- 7:13Speaker 1: like I said, the Anthony Bourdain episode. I recommend just
- 7:16Speaker 1: going back to the early Boordain No Reservation episode season one,
- 7:20Speaker 1: two three, crushing a bunch of those. It's important to
- 7:24Speaker 1: remember who the man was before he became the man
- 7:26Speaker 1: that he was, if that makes any sense. And those
- 7:28Speaker 1: early episodes are just fantastic. They're all fantastic. We know this,
- 7:32Speaker 1: but this time of year is the year for binging,
- 7:34Speaker 1: and of course Anthony Bourdain will make for a great
- 7:38Speaker 1: travel guide to your binge. We released a Dylan episode
- 7:41Speaker 1: Bob Dylan Episode in May of twenty twenty four, and
- 7:44Speaker 1: obviously because of the new movie A Complete Unknown, we
- 7:47Speaker 1: should mention that there are two Dylan records that I
- 7:51Speaker 1: love that don't get a lot of attention, and when
- 7:54Speaker 1: they do that attention it isn't necessarily positive. Bob Dylan's
- 7:58Speaker 1: Street Legal from nineteen seventy eight and Infidels from nineteen
- 8:03Speaker 1: eighty three. Infidels Street Legal, Okay, Street Legal. I don't
- 8:08Speaker 1: know who pulls this record out first when they think
- 8:10Speaker 1: of Bob Dylan records. I don't, but it is. It
- 8:14Speaker 1: is a late in life favorite of mine. It has
- 8:17Speaker 1: a control chaos about it that is a representative of
- 8:21Speaker 1: Dylan's life at that time in the late seventies, divorce proceedings,
- 8:25Speaker 1: all kinds of shit going on, you know, failing to
- 8:28Speaker 1: make the movie that ABC wanted him to make, just
- 8:30Speaker 1: a whole bunch of stuff that I don't Again, I
- 8:33Speaker 1: haven't seen a complete Unknown, but I doubt very much
- 8:35Speaker 1: that they get into this phase of Dylan's life with
- 8:38Speaker 1: any meat on the bone. Now, it could be wrong.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Maybe people will go see a complete Unknown in Street
- 8:44Speaker 1: Legal in the late seventies. Dylan will be part of
- 8:47Speaker 1: the film film's narrative and Street Legal will take on
- 8:50Speaker 1: this other life. But I doubt it. But I just
- 8:52Speaker 1: want to throw in my two cents here because it's
- 8:54Speaker 1: a gray record and y'all should check it out. Also
- 8:57Speaker 1: the other record I mentioned, Infidels. This record gets a
- 9:00Speaker 1: little bit more positive glow from critics in Dylan fans
- 9:05Speaker 1: Infidels does than Street Legal, but it is still a
- 9:08Speaker 1: fairly unknown Dylan album. Great record though produced by Mark
- 9:12Speaker 1: Knopfler from Dire Straits, who also plays guitar on this record.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Alongside the incredible Jamaican reggae rhythm section of Sly and Robbie,
- 9:19Speaker 1: Infidel's is Great has one of my I'm gonna say
- 9:24Speaker 1: it's definitely top ten, might be top five. Dylan's songs
- 9:28Speaker 1: Neighborhood Bully just a great record, so check those out. Obviously,
- 9:32Speaker 1: those recommendations are inspired by the Bob Dylan episode that
- 9:37Speaker 1: we produced for you guys earlier this year. Speaking of
- 9:39Speaker 1: Disgrace Sand episodes, the Cramps episode which we released in
- 9:43Speaker 1: October time with Halloween. I really get into the research
- 9:48Speaker 1: for this episode more so than I do a lot
- 9:51Speaker 1: of other episodes, because I didn't know the material that
- 9:54Speaker 1: that well. I didn't know the Cramps music that well.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I of course had a couple of Cramps records. I
- 10:00Speaker 1: grew up in and around a scene where the Cramps
- 10:03Speaker 1: were popular, but I never had my moment with the
- 10:05Speaker 1: Cramps like I did with the Misfits, like I did
- 10:07Speaker 1: with the Clash, So the Cramps were relatively new to me,
- 10:11Speaker 1: and I really went back to the beginning and I
- 10:13Speaker 1: listened to all the records, the trajectory of their creative output,
- 10:17Speaker 1: and it was just a gas because this band is incredible.
- 10:21Speaker 1: They're just amazing, and they made great, great, great records.
- 10:25Speaker 1: There's really not a bad one in the bunch. And
- 10:29Speaker 1: if your Cramp's curious. Okay, go back to the beginning
- 10:32Speaker 1: and just start with their first first album. It's Grimy
- 10:35Speaker 1: and beautiful songs The Lord Taught Us. Wow, what a title,
- 10:39Speaker 1: perfect title too. Check that out Songs The Lord Taught
- 10:42Speaker 1: Us by the Cramps. All Right, So I mentioned this before,
- 10:45Speaker 1: but it's worth repeating. The Martin Scorsese Last Waltz episode
- 10:50Speaker 1: we just released for Thanksgiving. This era of Scorsese is
- 10:54Speaker 1: a new fascination of ours here at Disgraceland, and we're
- 10:58Speaker 1: about to start researching a part to Scorsese episode to
- 11:01Speaker 1: release during Oscar season twenty twenty five. So if you
- 11:06Speaker 1: have not seen the Scorsese directed documentary American Boy, you must. Okay.
- 11:12Speaker 1: I know I mentioned this before in the After Party
- 11:14Speaker 1: when I first sawt about a year ago, but it
- 11:17Speaker 1: is worth saying again because this is, I mean, just wow.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Documentary is the wrong word. I think I called it
- 11:24Speaker 1: a documentary. It's it's I think Scorsese calls it a profile.
- 11:28Speaker 1: This is Scorsese in the late seventies in Hollywood Hills
- 11:33Speaker 1: living room. I think it might be his house. I'm
- 11:35Speaker 1: not exactly sure, but he's with a bunch of his
- 11:37Speaker 1: friends and mainly's with his buddy Stephen Prince, the wired,
- 11:43Speaker 1: super wired, tightly wired real life lunatic who plays easy Andy,
- 11:49Speaker 1: the gun dealer from taxi driver. Stephen Prince's life was
- 11:52Speaker 1: so fucking crazy, guys, that Scorsese was compelled to just
- 11:56Speaker 1: turn on the camera and let him talk. And that's
- 11:59Speaker 1: pretty much what the movie is. It's beautiful, it's fascinating.
- 12:03Speaker 1: This is a one in a million type character. You
- 12:07Speaker 1: can get this movie on HBO Max if you're an
- 12:10Speaker 1: HBO Max subscriber, but I also think you can get
- 12:13Speaker 1: on YouTube for free. Either way, it's worth paying for
- 12:16Speaker 1: highly highly recommend American Boy by Mart Scorsese. So there's
- 12:21Speaker 1: a handful of recommendations for you, guys to occupy yourselves
- 12:24Speaker 1: with over the remainder of your holiday break. If you
- 12:26Speaker 1: need some stuff to watch and or to listen to, you,
- 12:30Speaker 1: I try to give you some off the cuff stuff
- 12:32Speaker 1: and things that authentically and legitimately inspired me this year,
- 12:36Speaker 1: new and old. So coming up, all right, what do
- 12:39Speaker 1: we got coming up? We've got a couple rewind episodes
- 12:41Speaker 1: that are gonna hit your feed this week. Next in
- 12:44Speaker 1: your feed after this bonus episode, a couple rewind episodes
- 12:47Speaker 1: the Part one and Part two Beach Boys story, mainly
- 12:50Speaker 1: at Dennis Wilson's story. They're time for this time of
- 12:52Speaker 1: year because there's heavy New Year's vibes in the Part
- 12:55Speaker 1: two episode dealing with Dennis's death, So dig into those
- 12:59Speaker 1: and next week. Next week, we are back full boar
- 13:03Speaker 1: with our newest episode on Sean Diddy combs. Yes, a new,
- 13:07Speaker 1: fully scripted, sound designed episode on the biggest news story
- 13:10Speaker 1: from the music industry from twenty twenty four and likely
- 13:13Speaker 1: to be the biggest music story in twenty twenty five.
- 13:17Speaker 1: This is music history and that making. Guys. The story
- 13:19Speaker 1: is massive. It goes all over the place. There's entirely
- 13:23Speaker 1: too much to cover already. We haven't even had a
- 13:25Speaker 1: trial yet. So for this episode, I treated the Diddy
- 13:29Speaker 1: episode that we released just rewind up in here. I
- 13:31Speaker 1: treated the Diddy episode that we released back at the
- 13:33Speaker 1: end of twenty twenty three that was produced before all
- 13:36Speaker 1: this Diddy news hit. Okay, before we made this. We
- 13:40Speaker 1: made this episode before the allegations, before the indictment, before
- 13:44Speaker 1: the Cassi Ventura abuse tape, and we released that episode
- 13:49Speaker 1: back in December twenty twenty three. It's about the nightclub shooting.
- 13:53Speaker 1: It's about the stampede where nine people died that Diddy
- 13:57Speaker 1: was involved with. Now that episode, that Rewind episode will
- 14:01Speaker 1: hit your feed on Monday and serve as a part
- 14:04Speaker 1: one to our new Diddy episode which is going to
- 14:06Speaker 1: come on Tuesday. That's going to deal with the new allegations,
- 14:10Speaker 1: namely the Castiventur indictment and the true crime details behind
- 14:14Speaker 1: that indictment. So I hope you're ready for all that.
- 14:17Speaker 1: And when you're listening, just be thinking to yourself. Did
- 14:20Speaker 1: he denies all of these allegations, But what do you think?
- 14:25Speaker 1: Do you think he was capable of committing these crimes
- 14:28Speaker 1: alleged against him? And I want to know what you know.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I want to know what you and I want to
- 14:32Speaker 1: know what you think. I want you to call me.
- 14:34Speaker 1: That's the question of the week. Do you think did
- 14:36Speaker 1: he did it? I want you to send me a voicemail.
- 14:38Speaker 1: I want you to send me a text. Hit me
- 14:39Speaker 1: up at Disgrace Slam Pod six one seven nine oh
- 14:42Speaker 1: six six six three eight. Did did he do it?
- 14:46Speaker 1: Yes or no? And most importantly, why do you think
- 14:49Speaker 1: he did or did not do it? Let me know?
- 14:51Speaker 1: Six one seven nine oh six six six three eight,
- 14:54Speaker 1: send me a voicemail or text at disgracelam pod DMS
- 14:58Speaker 1: all right, I want to take a quick break. Be
- 15:00Speaker 1: back in the flash with your voicemails, text and DMS
- 15:20Speaker 1: all right, we are back. And because the King of
- 15:22Speaker 1: the sad songs, Hank Williams is in the feed this week,
- 15:25Speaker 1: we asked the question which artists or which artist songs
- 15:29Speaker 1: tear you up emotionally and I got to play this
- 15:31Speaker 1: voicemail from the five four to zero. I love dis Grace,
- 15:35Speaker 1: have listeners. If you pick this guy out at like
- 15:37Speaker 1: a you know, a state fair or your local bar,
- 15:40Speaker 1: you would never ever expect what he's going to say
- 15:42Speaker 1: at the end of the voicemail regarding this musical taste.
- 15:45Speaker 1: You guys are the best here. Let's Matt play the
- 15:48Speaker 1: five four to.
- 15:48Speaker 2: H Mister Brennan, this is your buddy, Justin from the
- 15:54Speaker 2: five four. You had asked about songs that get your
- 16:00Speaker 2: right and the feelings.
- 16:01Speaker 3: I got uh two.
- 16:05Speaker 2: The first one is gonna be uh Fast Cars by
- 16:08Speaker 2: Tracy Chapman.
- 16:10Speaker 3: That is when they came out. I heard it like
- 16:12Speaker 3: the first time, and I don't I don't know that
- 16:14Speaker 3: I've really heard the whole thing ever again, I just
- 16:17Speaker 3: got it's such a sad song, it's so hopeless. But
- 16:20Speaker 3: the second one is Alice Cooper's Only Women Bleed. When
- 16:29Speaker 3: I heard Alice Cooper's version, I really it's a great song.
- 16:33Speaker 3: It's a beautiful song. I'm well done. It sounds great
- 16:39Speaker 3: when your favorite and my favorite leader forward when she
- 16:43Speaker 3: did Only Women Bleed. Dude, dad will rip your bet'll
- 16:48Speaker 3: rip your heart out your chest if you don't, if
- 16:50Speaker 3: you don't tear up on that one, then you don't
- 16:53Speaker 3: have a soul.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Those those are the two.
- 16:57Speaker 3: Oh and just in general, any tour aim a song
- 17:01Speaker 3: out here usually would might be cry. Try not to
- 17:04Speaker 3: listen to that a whole lot. That's really sad. But anyway,
- 17:09Speaker 3: those are the ones. Man, rock and Roller.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Appreciate you. Five to four to oh. Cornflake Girl by
- 17:15Speaker 1: Tory Abels got me as well, always gets me, I
- 17:18Speaker 1: should say. And man, Alice Cooper, this is the third
- 17:21Speaker 1: bonus episode in a row. You guys have brought him up.
- 17:23Speaker 1: I don't know, I'll say it again. I think this
- 17:25Speaker 1: an Alice Cooper episode that we have to do. All right,
- 17:27Speaker 1: let's hear from the two O three.
- 17:29Speaker 4: This is John from the two O three. I would
- 17:32Speaker 4: really love to have an episode on Willie Deville, formerly
- 17:37Speaker 4: of mink Deville. From what I understand, he had a
- 17:40Speaker 4: horrible twenty year heroin habit and he sounds like a
- 17:45Speaker 4: cross between Lou Reed and Tom Waits. Brilliant lyrics, great singer.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Thank you, John. I love that mink Deville record with

- 18:11Speaker 1: And I'm fascinated by Willie Deville. And uh, just so
- 18:14Speaker 1: you know, John Wanted did some live shows a couple
- 18:16Speaker 1: of years back. I used his music as my intro music.
- 18:19Speaker 1: We'll get to We'll get to Willy eventually, John, when
- 18:21Speaker 1: you do hit me back. Also, please let me know
- 18:23Speaker 1: what you think of Garland Jeffries. All right, let's do
- 18:26Speaker 1: some texts here, the seven one six rites and Hey,
- 18:29Speaker 1: musician that guts me with every thought and every word
- 18:33Speaker 1: is David Berman of Silver Jews always visceral.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Uh.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Seven one six, thank you for this. This is part
- 18:41Speaker 1: of why I love you guys so much. It's you know,
- 18:43Speaker 1: I give you recommendations, but I get recommendations as well.
- 18:46Speaker 1: I have the Silver Jews. David Berman died a couple
- 18:49Speaker 1: of years ago, right, and it was one of those
- 18:52Speaker 1: artists that I'd heard of for years but never really
- 18:54Speaker 1: had spent any time with. So seven one six hit
- 18:57Speaker 1: me back, give me recommendation on where to start with
- 19:01Speaker 1: David Berman's music. Okay, all right? The eight one two
- 19:04Speaker 1: writes in same topic here, Hey, in regards to your question,
- 19:07Speaker 1: a singer that always gets in my heart and usually
- 19:10Speaker 1: makes me tear up is Christina Aguilera.
- 19:12Speaker 3: Man.
- 19:12Speaker 1: That woman has some pipes and emotion as always enjoying
- 19:16Speaker 1: the podcast rock on Holly coming from the eight one too.
- 19:19Speaker 1: Thank you, Holly, appreciate you, Holly. Hit me back. Let
- 19:22Speaker 1: me know which Christina Aguilera song gets you the most. Okay,
- 19:25Speaker 1: give me one song to listen to because I'm not
- 19:27Speaker 1: necessarily a fan, but I trust your instinct here in
- 19:30Speaker 1: your taste. So hit me back and let me know
- 19:32Speaker 1: what you're thinking and start me on my Christina Aguilera

- 19:39Speaker 1: in You're Lisa Lefti Lopez and your bandmates have just

- 19:55Speaker 1: the Internet is reacting and basically claiming that it was
- 19:59Speaker 1: a disaster. Uh, it was ridiculous, and uh they want
- 20:04Speaker 1: their five minutes back. I didn't see it, so I
- 20:06Speaker 1: can't comment. But how do you do any Lisa left

- 20:15Speaker 1: you do that song? In particular? I mean, come on,
- 20:20Speaker 1: she was iconic. It's like led Zeppelin without John Bonham
- 20:23Speaker 1: doesn't work. Two oh nine texts in, Hey, that Chris
- 20:27Speaker 1: Farley episode rocked me. In the early and mid nineties.
- 20:30Speaker 1: I was Farley six three two ninety, small town three
- 20:34Speaker 1: sport captain in my high school of two hundred people.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Saturday nights, I did not go out to party with
- 20:39Speaker 1: friends like everyone else. We didn't have a VCR to
- 20:42Speaker 1: record SNL, and lord knows we didn't have YouTube. I
- 20:45Speaker 1: had to be home to watch my idol. He was
- 20:48Speaker 1: the first celebrity I saw that I thought I could
- 20:51Speaker 1: be big, gregarious, made everyone laugh and had pain deep inside.
- 20:56Speaker 1: I watched all the skits, tried to emulate them for
- 20:58Speaker 1: my friends who missed them. Out a career in the
- 21:00Speaker 1: hills of Northwest Washington. Had just as much play with
- 21:03Speaker 1: the ladies as Farley. Hell I even wore fifty nine
- 21:05Speaker 1: in football because I heard he did. I got side
- 21:08Speaker 1: by side to prove it. I saw Tommy Boy in
- 21:10Speaker 1: the theaters twelve times to this day. The only celebrity
- 21:14Speaker 1: who made me openly weep when they passed is Chris Farley.
- 21:17Speaker 1: His legacy and antics still live in me. His story
- 21:21Speaker 1: is real and honestly, I had those trajectories laid out
- 21:24Speaker 1: before me. So just as his comedy gave me life,
- 21:26Speaker 1: the stories of his tragedy have kept me alive, knowing
- 21:29Speaker 1: I'm just a binge away from the same cliff. Thanks
- 21:32Speaker 1: for telling it, JB. And that comes from the two
- 21:35Speaker 1: nine to two O nine. I appreciate you, appreciate the
- 21:36Speaker 1: text appreciate your love for the Big Man. Chris Farley
- 21:40Speaker 1: two to oh one text in Yo, It's Gucci from
- 21:42Speaker 1: the two oh one via six one seven slash four
- 21:45Speaker 1: to one.
- 21:45Speaker 4: Oh.
- 21:45Speaker 1: I got the four to one one. On those drones,
- 21:47Speaker 1: I first saw several five at least on December twelfth,
- 21:50Speaker 1: and I've sporadically seen a few since. They were flying
- 21:52Speaker 1: above the Hudson River, about one mile from the George
- 21:55Speaker 1: Washington Bridge, and they seem to be flying a distinct path,
- 21:58Speaker 1: one following another fair low over the river. They were
- 22:01Speaker 1: so close to the bridge. In my opinion, there is
- 22:03Speaker 1: no way that these are not US military, otherwise they
- 22:06Speaker 1: would have been destroyed on site for sure. It seems
- 22:10Speaker 1: as they are either searching for something or tracing a pathway.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I'm not exactly sure. I really wish they were, in fact,
- 22:16Speaker 1: some intergalactic planetary beings coming to take me to another dimension,
- 22:20Speaker 1: another dimension. Thanks for the update from the Greater New York,
- 22:26Speaker 1: New Jersey area there, Gucci appreciate you. Seven oh two
- 22:31Speaker 1: on the same subjects, seven oh two wishes to remain anonymous,
- 22:35Speaker 1: so I shall not reveal the name. Seven oh two
- 22:39Speaker 1: says I'm a retired military officer, and I worked in
- 22:42Speaker 1: the intelligence community. I don't live in New Jersey and
- 22:45Speaker 1: I've only seen the drones online, specifically YouTube my two cents.
- 22:49Speaker 1: Theyre US government drones US Air Force, possibly in conjunction
- 22:53Speaker 1: with the Department of Energy, looking for something. They fly
- 22:55Speaker 1: at night because they're probably using infrared thermal imaging, which
- 22:58Speaker 1: works better in the dark. Think about it. The drones
- 23:01Speaker 1: have lights because they want to be visible to air traffic.
- 23:04Speaker 1: If those drones were a threat China, Russia. I ran
- 23:06Speaker 1: North Korea, you'd see usaf CAAP Combat Air Patrol fighter
- 23:10Speaker 1: jets shooting them down. Instead, authorities are telling people not
- 23:14Speaker 1: to shoot at them. Cheers. This makes sense, and this
- 23:17Speaker 1: is probably the most, probably the scariest of all the possibilities,
- 23:23Speaker 1: that they're looking for something too dangerous to mention. I
- 23:26Speaker 1: don't want to go into that anymore because I don't
- 23:28Speaker 1: want to speculate on it because I think it's irresponsible.
- 23:31Speaker 1: But I appreciate the text there from both of you guys.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Brendan Kennedy on Facebook rights Hey at the KASMO in
- 23:38Speaker 1: San Diego tonight to watch Star Crawler. Those guys are
- 23:42Speaker 1: helping to keep Rock and Roll alive. And I'm reading
- 23:45Speaker 1: Brendan on Facebook's message to me here for a reason.
- 23:48Speaker 1: It's because a lot of you have written in my
- 23:52Speaker 1: take that rock and roll is dead, to tell me
- 23:54Speaker 1: that I'm wrong and that there are great bands out there,
- 23:58Speaker 1: great rock and roll bands out there performing every night,
- 24:01Speaker 1: And I just have to say, I have to clarify
- 24:04Speaker 1: one more time. This is what I've said from the beginning.
- 24:06Speaker 1: Though there are great rock and roll bands out there
- 24:08Speaker 1: playing every night, rock and roll is still dead in
- 24:10Speaker 1: the sense that it does not affect mainstream culture. It
- 24:13Speaker 1: doesn't drive popular culture in the way that it once
- 24:15Speaker 1: did throughout the second half of the twentieth century. In
- 24:18Speaker 1: the beginning of the twenty first century, Starcrawler, great band,
- 24:22Speaker 1: low Ka Kanie great band. Lots of bands are still
- 24:25Speaker 1: going from back in the day when rock and roll
- 24:27Speaker 1: was not dead. In the early part of the twenty
- 24:29Speaker 1: first century. The Queens of the Stone Age, who I
- 24:31Speaker 1: mentioned before, Jack White's still out there, slain it. There
- 24:34Speaker 1: are great rock and roll bands that I have never
- 24:36Speaker 1: heard of, who are playing right now somewhere in America,
- 24:40Speaker 1: blowing minds, melting faces in small clubs, basements, DIY shows.
- 24:47Speaker 1: I get it. I know it. I support it, I'm
- 24:50Speaker 1: here for it, I love it. But it doesn't change
- 24:52Speaker 1: the fact that rock and roll no longer affects mainstream
- 24:57Speaker 1: culture the way that it once did. Therefore, I believe
- 25:00Speaker 1: rock and roll is going perhaps has gone the way
- 25:02Speaker 1: of the Dodo Bird, the way of jazz music, where
- 25:04Speaker 1: it is a niche music. Okay, it is a niche
- 25:07Speaker 1: music that was once dominant on the charts and no
- 25:10Speaker 1: longer is is no longer driving mainstream culture. Star Crawler,
- 25:15Speaker 1: you know, I know who they are. You know who
- 25:16Speaker 1: they are. They're fantastic, sure, but America doesn't really know
- 25:20Speaker 1: who they are, Okay, So it's our little secret. And
- 25:22Speaker 1: that's okay too. I'm just saying it ain't like it was.
- 25:26Speaker 1: And our job here is to talk about those stories
- 25:28Speaker 1: from those days when it was great, and we are
- 25:31Speaker 1: preserving the spirit of rock and roll as we go
- 25:34Speaker 1: in our own way, just as Star Crawler is in
- 25:37Speaker 1: their own way. Appreciate the message, Brendan. I didn't mean
- 25:40Speaker 1: to unload on you. That wasn't the point. I just
- 25:42Speaker 1: use your message to sort of tee up this larger
- 25:45Speaker 1: message to make my point, all right, Marie Suzanne Todd
- 25:48Speaker 1: on Instagram hits us up. Hey, hope the festive season
- 25:50Speaker 1: has treated you kindly. I'm up to date on the
- 25:52Speaker 1: episodes now. I love the episode on Shane McGown. Hope
- 25:54Speaker 1: I spelled that right. I'm dyslexic. I wondered if you've
- 25:56Speaker 1: ever looked into Kirsty McCall's death in the late nineties.
- 26:00Speaker 1: She died in a speedboat accident, which is only half
- 26:02Speaker 1: the story. She was scuba diving with her boyfriend and
- 26:04Speaker 1: children when a speedboat came into the area that were
- 26:06Speaker 1: swimming at and I believe that was an area where
- 26:09Speaker 1: speedboats were banned. She managed to push her son out
- 26:12Speaker 1: of the way, but was killed instantly, and the family
- 26:16Speaker 1: had to fight for years for justice because the guy
- 26:18Speaker 1: responsible was a high profile politician. I think. Don't quote
- 26:22Speaker 1: me on that. I'm definitely not saying that the guy
- 26:24Speaker 1: responsible was a high profile politician, but I do appreciate
- 26:27Speaker 1: this text. I'd heard this story before, and I like
- 26:29Speaker 1: that you are bringing in to my attention one more
- 26:31Speaker 1: time here, Marie. I'm when I check this out and
- 26:34Speaker 1: perhaps there is a Christy McCall episode in the future. Okay,
- 26:36Speaker 1: this week's story of the week. You know what we're
- 26:39Speaker 1: doing here. This is a new thing we're trying to
- 26:40Speaker 1: I want your stories of rock and roll animalism, stories
- 26:43Speaker 1: you love that you've learned about, stories that you've perhaps
- 26:48Speaker 1: been a part of. And it can be anything. It
- 26:50Speaker 1: can be any story or counter with any sort of
- 26:53Speaker 1: rock star your experience, and any kind of concert. Some
- 26:56Speaker 1: story you may have heard of or read about, or
- 26:58Speaker 1: seen in a documentary that I don't know about that
- 27:00Speaker 1: you want to tell me about her. Could even be
- 27:02Speaker 1: a story that I've already told that you find super compelling.
- 27:06Speaker 1: I want to hear more on. Hit me up, let
- 27:08Speaker 1: me know what your story is. Okay, that's what we're
- 27:11Speaker 1: asking for every week, and then I'm going to highlight
- 27:13Speaker 1: your disco story of the week here in the after
- 27:15Speaker 1: Party and perhaps elsewhere. Working on that piece right now.
- 27:18Speaker 1: But this week's story of the week comes from the
- 27:20Speaker 1: four one two by the way of the seven to
- 27:22Speaker 1: two to four.
- 27:23Speaker 5: Hey Jay, I'm in the seven two four. Moving into
- 27:27Speaker 5: the four to one two, named Booz wanted to share
- 27:30Speaker 5: a rock and roll animal story. Early aies went to
- 27:34Speaker 5: check out Rat and Billy Squire watch some music center
- 27:38Speaker 5: up near Cleveland. Rat was killed a real good time
- 27:42Speaker 5: Billy Squire's doing his set and he starts doing a
- 27:46Speaker 5: pre amble into a song. He's talking shit, telling a
- 27:49Speaker 5: couple of stories, and right I just got the urge
- 27:54Speaker 5: and I stood up on a yell stroke me at
- 27:58Speaker 5: the top of my lungs, and it was like the
- 28:00Speaker 5: whole place right at that particular moment took a breath
- 28:04Speaker 5: and my I just run out across the whole freaking place.
- 28:07Speaker 5: He stopped and turned and like pointed out at me
- 28:10Speaker 5: and was like, That's what I'm talking about, brother, And
- 28:12Speaker 5: they started playing the strips hair standing up on my arms. Man,
- 28:16Speaker 5: Just the baddest das moment of my life. Have a
- 28:19Speaker 5: good day, bro man.
- 28:21Speaker 1: All I was missing from this is the needle sliding
- 28:24Speaker 1: off of the turntable. Thanks for sharing, Booze. Billy Squire
- 28:30Speaker 1: isn't Billy Squire from Massachusetts. I think he was. I
- 28:33Speaker 1: think he was originally from Newton or something. I could
- 28:35Speaker 1: be wrong. Great story, guys, again, Hit me up. I

- 28:54Speaker 1: vessels in New Jersey, they'll have something in reference to

- 30:37Speaker 1: because there's a there's a B line story in this
- 30:41Speaker 1: Derek in the Dominoes episode that is largely about schizophrenia.
- 30:45Speaker 1: There's a B line story in there on a horrific
