Latest / Ghost Cult Magazine Podcast / PODCAST: Episode 746 - Matt Young (King Parrot) Talks New Album, Chaos on Tour and The Future of Aussie Grindcore
Transcript
- 0:00Kind of gave me the opportunity to be able to sort of delve into
- 0:03other areas vocally. There's definitely a lot more
- 0:06lows on this record, but I'd also feel like there's a little
- 0:10bit more melody in the vocals a little.
- 0:12But I just feel like I've kind of been able to get somewhere to
- 0:16a different place with the vocals as well on this record.
- 0:25What's up everybody, it is TV from ghostcoldman.com.
- 0:29I'm super stoked to be once again joined by Yungi from King
- 0:32Parrot. How you doing brother?
- 0:33I'm good, man. I'm good.
- 0:34Good morning. Good evening.
- 0:35Whatever it is. It's evening in California.
- 0:38It's the future or the past, wherever you are.
- 0:42It's the future, man. It's Sunday morning.
- 0:45OK, Yeah, that's amazing. Yeah.
- 0:47Time travel through technology, it's sort of possible.
- 0:50We're not quite at Star Trek yet with, you know, transporters and
- 0:53things, but like, you know, energized.
- 0:57But at least now we can talk, you know, I'm saying offline.
- 1:01King Parrot is one of those bands that I've been very
- 1:03fortunate to say Ghost Cult is supported and covered from the
- 1:06very beginning here at Ghost Cult.
- 1:08This is our 13th year. The band has been around, you
- 1:11know, so many years. You know, it's and you're not
- 1:15supposed to have favorites, but I gotta say, like King Parrot
- 1:17has been one of my favorites and a favorite success story that
- 1:20you guys kind of, you know, have continued to just achieve new
- 1:24things and, you know, open the world up to your band and some
- 1:29Australian grind corps. So Congrats, man.
- 1:31From from the bottom of my heart, Congrats.
- 1:34Oh, no, thank you very much. And, and, and you know, like,
- 1:36thank you for your support over the years too, because I, I even
- 1:39from the very first tour, I know you guys have been on board with
- 1:42us and, and been helping us out like since, yeah, that first US
- 1:47tour I think we did in 2014, you guys have been right behind it.
- 1:51So, you know, we're very, very grateful.
- 1:53And yeah, what a cool thing, man.
- 1:55It's just been been such a trip, such a trip.
- 1:58Right on and you guys are having a stellar year and the record is
- 2:01not even out yet. A young Person's Guide to King
- 2:04Parrot coming out this June from House Core Records.
- 2:07You're repping the shirt. I love it.
- 2:08You know, a fun place to start is even before you guys aligned
- 2:12with House Core and Philip got behind you and and prompts to
- 2:16him for just being a booster for the underground and bringing
- 2:19these bands with him on these enormous tours.
- 2:22Like, I don't think anybody envisioned how big this Pantera
- 2:25Union could possibly get. But, you know, what does it mean
- 2:29to you to have that support even now, all these years later, that
- 2:32the that the label is behind you, Phillip is behind you.
- 2:35You've been able to tour arenas, things that most grind corps
- 2:37bands, except for maybe Napalm Death that I've never gotten to
- 2:40do. Yeah, that's exactly right, man.
- 2:43I was sort of saying that to someone the other day.
- 2:45I was like, you know, on the on the last year to like, we just
- 2:49got back from Europe. We did a whole bunch of shows
- 2:52with Pantera and power trip throughout Europe.
- 2:55And you know, we got to play at Wembley Arena, you know, just
- 3:00like, what the fuck are we doing here?
- 3:02You know, it was like there's like celebrities in the
- 3:05audience, you know, there's like that dude, Jason Momoa turned up
- 3:09to the show and you know, we got up and sang walk together and
- 3:12stuff. And that was just like hilarious
- 3:15stuff, you know? And you're right.
- 3:18You know, it's we, we've had the opportunity as a, as a growing,
- 3:22you know, predominantly growing core kind of band, I guess,
- 3:24although we don't like to pigeonhouse, pigeonhole
- 3:27ourselves too much, but that's sort of the most, that's the
- 3:31biggest influence in our sound for sure.
- 3:34Yeah, we've just had these incredible opportunities year
- 3:37after year. And I guess it was that little
- 3:40bit of uncertainty through the whole COVID time for everyone,
- 3:42of course. But for us, it was like we kind
- 3:45of separated a little bit as a band, so we weren't able to get
- 3:49together much and it kind of looked a bit bleak there for a
- 3:51little while. But coming back, getting the
- 3:53opportunity to come back in the to the US in 2023, we've got to
- 3:57do a bunch of shows with Pantera and Lamb of God on that little
- 4:00run. And we did a whole bunch of
- 4:02shows with weed eater as well, who have been great friends of
- 4:04ours as well for for many years and some headlining shows around
- 4:09the rest of the country. We played with spirit in the
- 4:11room and filters eternal. And that really just sort of set
- 4:14the fire under our asses again, man.
- 4:16We were like, we've got to do a, we've got to do a new record.
- 4:19You know, we have to do a new record.
- 4:20So towards the end of 2023, we were like, we, we knuckled down
- 4:23and we got the songs written and 2024 we did not first out here
- 4:27in Australia with with Pantera and Lamb of God again.
- 4:30And and then we can just kind of hit the studio for the rest of
- 4:33the year and make sure that we were, you know, geared up for
- 4:352025, you know, so it's all all been coming out.
- 4:39The the videos have been out and and the record will be be out,
- 4:43you know, in about a month. Right on.
- 4:44You know, with music journalists, by the way,
- 4:47especially metal music journalists.
- 4:48We have lizard brains. We have like Dino T Rex arms and
- 4:52brains where we can't do anything unless it's given to
- 4:54us. I do think that the new record
- 4:56is probably the most grind record you've done because you
- 4:59have done all kinds of other, you know, hardcore adjacent and,
- 5:02you know, extreme metal. We are also big Spirit in the
- 5:05Room fan shout out to Dennis. He's a good friend and a guy
- 5:07we've helped support also love that dude.
- 5:09And yeah, just phenomenal. Just, you know, phenomenal
- 5:14amount of respect all around the board because I'm sure you never
- 5:18anticipated as a band that you guys were going to like, you
- 5:21know, get this like not to get this far, but just, you know,
- 5:24get this kind of opportunity And you seized it.
- 5:26And and I know the whole world had kind of a psychotic break
- 5:29during the plague. And luckily it's hopefully we
- 5:32don't go back to one the way things are going in my country.
- 5:34But, you know, I'm like, please, no more.
- 5:38I went like 600 days without a concert.
- 5:40I was going to crawl up and shrivel up, you know?
- 5:45Yeah. So I'm so glad we came back from
- 5:48that. But yeah, man, I imagine that's
- 5:50also why the break between records.
- 5:52But it's not like you ever stopped working.
- 5:53I know you said you guys were split up a little, but it feels
- 5:56like up until then, like everybody, you guys were very
- 5:58prolific. Like, you know, release,
- 6:00release, release, you know, sometimes the EP a lot of
- 6:03touring locally and abroad. So I think the work, the hard
- 6:06work does pay off. I, I think that's, that's what
- 6:09we're seeing here with King Parrot.
- 6:11You know, I never asked you. This is just randomly popped
- 6:13into my head like the name of King, like the name King parrot.
- 6:16This might have come up in like a very early interview without
- 6:18me at ghost called, but I know there's like a King parrot
- 6:21falls. But you guys are from Melbourne
- 6:23and not NSW where that is. I looked it up.
- 6:27So I was like, what? Where like it's a cool name.
- 6:29It's different. Where did that name come from?
- 6:31Just randomly? I just like never thought about
- 6:33asking you before. Yeah, right.
- 6:35So I don't know. It was just a random
- 6:37conversation with a, with a friend.
- 6:39You know, there's a movie called Chopper.
- 6:42I don't know if you've ever seen the Australian movie called
- 6:44Chopper, right. So it's about this guy who was a
- 6:48mass serial killer kind of guy who was a bit of a vigilante, I
- 6:53guess. And he that great film with Eric
- 6:57Banner. There's a scene in it where the
- 7:00character Keith George, the guy who's sort of they're in jail
- 7:04and he's the guy who's put he's putting the boot Polish in his
- 7:06hair and trying to make his hair look all strange.
- 7:11It's fucking ridiculous. And he calls Chopper a parrot.
- 7:15He he he says, oh, you're a parrot talking.
- 7:22And he's just, you know, they haven't a it's right before
- 7:25Chopper stabs him in the face. And we were just watching it one
- 7:31day in front of the house. She called the band King Parrot.
- 7:33And I was like, yeah, that's that's I don't know, for some
- 7:37reason it just kind of stuck. And I guess King Parrots are
- 7:40notoriously kind of loud and annoying.
- 7:43And I guess it's not too far removed from.
- 7:46The sound, there you are, there you are loud and be loud and
- 7:50annoying and leave them all. I think that's what y'all have
- 7:53done. And you know, again, the, the
- 7:55mute, the heavy world is better off for it.
- 7:57Let's be annoying till we can't be anymore, right?
- 7:59Because one of my favorite interviews ever, I interviewed
- 8:02Devin Townsend and I asked him about what music he listens to
- 8:04when he's not doing music. And he's like, well, I make
- 8:06music that like definitely encroaches and imposes on
- 8:10people. So when I listen to music, I
- 8:11don't want to be imposed on, but I want to bother people with my
- 8:15whatever it is I do. I want to just bug people to
- 8:18notice me. And I was like, dude, that's
- 8:20brilliant. Like I never thought of it that
- 8:21way. Like, you know, I make, I'm back
- 8:23to making music for the first time myself in a long time.
- 8:26And I make pretty heavy music. I listen to a lot of heavy music
- 8:29and stuff that's not. But I was like, that's like that
- 8:31has stayed with me for a long time.
- 8:33I was like, that's really wild because like most of us, we like
- 8:36heavy music. We listen to heavy music, We
- 8:37make heavy music. Like that's kind of our thing.
- 8:40Right. But it's kind of interesting
- 8:41that he had a different take on it.
- 8:42What a what a what a wonderful guy he is.
- 8:44But yeah, man, this records, like, I don't think people are
- 8:48ready for it. It's going to kill them.
- 8:50They're going to kill their ears in a good way.
- 8:52They're going to be cranking it up.
- 8:53I love the album cover is like very chill and like, oh, like a
- 8:58very, you know, like unsuspecting.
- 9:00And then the music is just OK, 123 go and there's no let up on
- 9:05the whole record. There's no there's no you took
- 9:07the chill out if there was any ever.
- 9:09Like there's nothing, which I love.
- 9:11It's real fast and to the point, which is, you know what we want
- 9:14from y'all. So yeah, I feel like it is the
- 9:16most grindy record you've done that wasn't a little bit
- 9:19different and different stuff in it.
- 9:20What do you think about that? Yeah, yeah, I agree.
- 9:22I think it's the most, I could never use the term polished when
- 9:27it comes to King parry because that just wouldn't be right.
- 9:29But if there was a most polished thing we've done, it would be
- 9:33this. But on the other hand, it's also
- 9:36the most abrasive, harshest, brutal but type album that we've
- 9:42done. And that there's a few reasons
- 9:44behind that. I think songwriting wise, you
- 9:46know, we just we took our time, but it was it was quite
- 9:49concentrated when we did it. You know, we kind of got it
- 9:52done. You know, when we started
- 9:54putting all the ideas together and writing and all of that sort
- 9:57of stuff, we kind of got it done.
- 9:58We got it, we got it nailed and and we jumped straight into pre
- 10:02production. So we've got what kind of
- 10:03happened in quick succession, which was fantastic.
- 10:08And then when it came to the recording process, we we used to
- 10:12go into the studio on the other records and just do a punk rock
- 10:15style, you know, just record it and get the best take and
- 10:18whatever. We never like mapped out the
- 10:20songs with a click track or anything.
- 10:21So the reason that why I say polished is because we click
- 10:25tracked everything on this record and and then sort of
- 10:27built it, you know, off the off that.
- 10:29So we got the drums down and then we then we did the bass and
- 10:32the guitars and all of that sort of stuff and then the vocals at
- 10:35the end. But it was, it was a different
- 10:37process in that regard. And it sort of gave us a little
- 10:39bit more flexibility on the back end with the mix and all of that
- 10:42sort of stuff to try and get it to a point that was sounding
- 10:46much more like professional and, and, and, and, and step up.
- 10:50But also really making it abrasive as well and, and, and
- 10:55harsh and, you know, but it kind of gave me the opportunity to be
- 10:59able to sort of delve into other areas vocally.
- 11:04There's definitely a lot more lows on this record, but I also
- 11:07feel like there's a little bit more melody in the vocals a
- 11:10little. But I just feel like I've kind
- 11:13of been able to get somewhere to a different place with the
- 11:16vocals as well on this record. So I was really sort of happy
- 11:20that I had such a great engineer with Luke Walton at danger.
- 11:23Tony we hadn't worked with before.
- 11:25He kind of just guided me through and was very supportive
- 11:28in the in what how I wanted to do it, how I wanted to layer it,
- 11:31and then giving me really good feedback around, you know, maybe
- 11:33we should try this or do something different here.
- 11:36And it was just an awesome process all around, you know,
- 11:39right? On Youngie helping me out with
- 11:41my segues because he's an expert at these things.
- 11:44I wanted to talk about your vocals.
- 11:45I thought you did a marvelous job.
- 11:47It is a it is a little tuned up and different.
- 11:49I like that you were like not polished, but just better.
- 11:52And I like that that I I had that in my notes as well.
- 11:55Listening back to the record a few times the last few days and
- 11:58when I go to do an interview, I go listen back to everything.
- 12:00So I really am going back to 2012 and I went back to the the
- 12:04previous record and like, yeah, there's definitely some growth
- 12:06there and you want to get better, you want to improve.
- 12:09You know, obviously you've had mostly the same line up over the
- 12:12years, which is astounding for any band.
- 12:15I know we had a change with the drummer.
- 12:16Do you want to talk a little bit about that coming like the last
- 12:19few years? Yeah, Yeah.
- 12:20So we we've just, we've just got a new drummer on board.
- 12:24You know, we could just sense a little there was something that
- 12:26there was just a change that needed to happen with with our
- 12:29old drummer Todd. And we, we just opened up the
- 12:31conversation and we decided it was best sort of part ways,
- 12:34which is kind of not ideal coming into a new album cycle.
- 12:37But it's just these things happen, you know, you know,
- 12:40people's priorities change and, and things like that.
- 12:43And we just opened the conversation up and we were sort
- 12:45of amicably able to sort of just go, OK, well, that's, that's
- 12:48we're going to, we're going to part ways.
- 12:50And, you know, we'll always be brothers and friends and all of
- 12:54that sort of stuff. So it's no, there's no hard
- 12:56feelings there at all. But, you know, I'm the kind of
- 12:58guy that likes to go out to shows a lot.
- 12:59I go and see a lot of shows around Melbourne and go and
- 13:04check out the local scene and, and yeah, there's this one guy,
- 13:08Max, he was now our drummer who I thought was a phenomenal
- 13:12talent. He has got amazing feel and
- 13:15groove. But he can do all the Blasty
- 13:17stuff, he can do all the thrashy stuff, he can do all the punk
- 13:20stuff. He's just one of those guys
- 13:21that's able to absorb music. And I, I mean, I think it's one
- 13:25thing to be able to absorb the music, but then it's another
- 13:28thing to be able to actually perform it, perform the shit
- 13:30that you absorb. You know, like I can absorb
- 13:33music, but it doesn't mean I can necessarily perform it.
- 13:36But this guy hears it and plays it.
- 13:39You know, he's one of those kind of musicians where you go, fuck
- 13:42you, man. You can do everything, you know,
- 13:46you know, we can play guitar, you can play bass, he can play
- 13:48the drums. He's, he's an incredible fucking
- 13:50drummer, man. It's, it's, it's amazing.
- 13:51And he's also a sound engineer. So that's really cool in that
- 13:57sense. And, and, you know, since he's
- 14:00come on board, we've been sort of jamming the last last month
- 14:03or so. And all the songs, even all the
- 14:06old songs that we've sort of written from the Todd era, from
- 14:09the last few records. Max is putting a whole different
- 14:12spin on him. And he's got this groove and
- 14:14this feel that we haven't sort of experienced since the first
- 14:18record when we had our original drama.
- 14:20So we, we kind of just enjoying going back through the back
- 14:24catalog now and just playing this stuff with this new energy.
- 14:29That's been amazing, man. So we've we're just enjoying
- 14:32that at the moment. We're going to be enjoying
- 14:34getting out on the road next weekend for our kicking off our
- 14:38Aussie tour. And then just sort of seeing
- 14:40that, seeing where it takes us. And obviously I just want to
- 14:43ride again now. I just want to do another record
- 14:46straight away. Lovely.
- 14:48Well, after that break of, you know, whether on purpose or
- 14:51unfortunately not like in most bands, I'm excited to hear that.
- 14:55And of course, you know, again, the bat, I think a lot of fans
- 14:59when they hear you the first time, that's the thing they
- 15:01gravitate to and they they latch on to.
- 15:04But you know, I think it's important.
- 15:06Like, you know, the first fan of your band needs to be all needs
- 15:09to be you guys, because otherwise it's not fresh
- 15:12anymore, right? And then you you know, you never
- 15:14want to be in that band where you know, you don't like doing
- 15:18it or like, Oh no, I have to play this song again.
- 15:20And so a new member who hears things a different way and maybe
- 15:24interprets a different way changes how the rest of you
- 15:26who've been together a long time perform it.
- 15:28Maybe it changes a little in a in a fresh way.
- 15:31You know, ask Philip how many thousands of times he's had to
- 15:34do walk or a new level. And I'm sure he loves doing them
- 15:38because now, like, you know, they're they're getting their
- 15:40flowers and touring Metallica and arenas and stuff, which they
- 15:44didn't do much of back in the day other than festivals.
- 15:46But like, yeah, man, it could be AI know it could be a drag.
- 15:50I once had a band for a long time and we were like 7-8 years
- 15:52later doing the same couple of songs.
- 15:55And you know, I love doing them because they were my songs.
- 15:57But I was also like, is everybody hating this out there?
- 16:00Like can we do some new shit? Because like, they must be
- 16:02bored, man. Like even though I love this
- 16:04song, I can't, can't play it every show.
- 16:06It would be killing people, killing the vibe, you know, you
- 16:10know, So yeah, I, I, I, I, I noted the production.
- 16:14I love the brevity of the record.
- 16:15It's just what it needs to be. I start feeling, I don't know,
- 16:18like, you know, what's an EP, what's a you know, in what's an
- 16:21EP, what's an album in punk or grind core or hardcore metal,
- 16:26you know, after about 40 minutes, I start to like what's
- 16:28going on here, unless it's a really excellent record, I start
- 16:31to lose track. And my podcast partner is fond
- 16:34of saying like 42 minutes is the optimal amount of music for a
- 16:37new release of any kind. So we we fight about what is a
- 16:40record and what isn't because he's like Mr. Vinyl, but and and
- 16:44how wild that in the time of King Parrot Vinyl has made a
- 16:46huge comeback. Cassettor thing.
- 16:49You might be able to get an 8 track of this record someday.
- 16:53I don't know what other format is going to come back.
- 16:55The Victrola will play. We'll do like Russia and we'll
- 16:58make records on X-rays and spin them on X-rays someday if we run
- 17:02out of the petrol for the vinyl, right, The the you know, the
- 17:07different colors in the molds and stuff.
- 17:09But it's super cool. Like, you know, I think house
- 17:11court, like I said, has done a great job, not just Philip
- 17:13personally supporting you, but putting this record out, you
- 17:16know, in the world and and I must be super cool to be able to
- 17:19get a vinyl. I'm sure you never anticipated
- 17:22having a vinyl of your band in ever.
- 17:24Yeah. I mean, yeah, it's been one of
- 17:26those things I think from the first record, like when we put
- 17:29that out in like 2012, I think we just put it out on CD and
- 17:36digital, I guess. And then then that's sort of
- 17:39kind of when maybe it was around that time or just before the
- 17:42Divine resurgence kind of started.
- 17:44And I was like, we have to put that, we have to put it out on
- 17:48on vinyl. So we did a pre-order for that
- 17:50first record and I think we ended up getting 500 copies or
- 17:53something and we sold a ton of them like straight up the bat.
- 17:56And so that was like, that's when I was like, well, that's
- 17:59great. Everything's got to be on vinyl.
- 18:01It's and it's so cool. I love vinyl.
- 18:02I'm a big collector myself and I have way too many records.
- 18:06Nice. What's your favorite single
- 18:08vinyl record you own? I'd love to know.
- 18:10One that I always go back to is when is The Who live leads, you
- 18:17know, just a classic live record.
- 18:19It's got great energy. It's one of my favorite,
- 18:22favorite albums of all time and I love listening to that.
- 18:25And another one that's close to my heart that I always have to
- 18:29mention because my my father gave it to me.
- 18:32Well, well, I don't know if he actually gave it to me or I
- 18:35stole it, but it's ACDC Dirty deeds done dirt cheap.
- 18:40That was that was something that I grew up with as a kid.
- 18:43My old man always had that plan and it's just a special record
- 18:49for me. Although Power Ranges, my
- 18:51favorite ACDC album, Dirty Deeds, has a special.
- 18:53Spot. Nice one, nice one.
- 18:55Those are great. And I've been told once again by
- 18:58my partner there from my other podcast that the Aussie and the
- 19:01New Zealand presses of the original ACDC records with Bonn
- 19:05are phenomenal. I got to go visit him and hear
- 19:08him because he has them and I don't but.
- 19:10Yeah, yeah. Amazing man, amazing stuff.
- 19:13Just to just to wrap things up. So I know you guys are heading
- 19:16out on the road, which is why we're doing this interview now
- 19:19ahead of the record a bit. And you know what else is on tap
- 19:22for you for the year? Do you have anything you can?
- 19:25It is too soon to announce anything.
- 19:26Don't cause PR will. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 19:29But like, yeah, let me know what else you can share beside the
- 19:32record dropping and things like that.
- 19:33Sure, man. So we, yeah, we've just been
- 19:37like, I guess the last month or so since we got back from
- 19:39Europe, we've just been hard at it in the jam room with our new
- 19:42dramas, which is great. First shows next weekend.
- 19:45We're doing some regional stuff and going to some places that we
- 19:48don't sort of like, not a lot of bands get to here in Australia.
- 19:52We're doing that over the next couple of months on the
- 19:54weekends, which is, which is going to be great.
- 19:57And we'll just sort of slowly get our album out there and, and
- 20:01build some live chemistry with our new drama, which is going to
- 20:04be great. I mean, the chemistry in the jam
- 20:06room has been incredible already.
- 20:07So that's awesome. But you know, just getting out
- 20:09there and playing some shows will be awesome.
- 20:11July 25th is our first show in the US.
- 20:14We we were lucky enough to snag a spot on the On the Acid Bath
- 20:18pentagram show. In New York, which is going to
- 20:21be incredible. But the thing that I'm sort of
- 20:24most excited about is that our new drama Max who's he's only 24
- 20:28man and he's he's a he's a phenomenal musician and his
- 20:31first show in America going to be at Paramount Theatre in
- 20:35Brooklyn with fucking acid bath and pentagram dude.
- 20:38So I'm just like, I'm so happy for him.
- 20:40And then like a week later, we start with Pantera and I'm on a
- 20:44moth, which is, you know, those shows are obviously going to be
- 20:46monstrous. But I'm just so, so stoked that
- 20:49we've we've got like a show like that as our first show on the
- 20:53tour to launch our new record with acid bath and pentagram.
- 20:56That's going to be really cool. So yeah, it's that's all going
- 21:00on that that'll take us right through to September.
- 21:02And then I guess we'll do Part 2 of our Aussie tour when we get
- 21:06back and get to some of the places that we we're not getting
- 21:09to. We're talking about doing, you
- 21:11know, Adelaide and Perth and then it will go up to Brisbane
- 21:14and we get up around there. We're not doing that on this
- 21:16run. So we'll get to a few of the
- 21:18places that we're not getting to on this Part 1 of the tour.
- 21:21And then man, we're really excited just to start writing
- 21:24again. Now that we've got a new drama,
- 21:26it's like we just want to write. So we're going to get back into
- 21:29the studio pretty quickly and, and start jamming and, and
- 21:32getting some new ideas together. And, and then we'll just see
- 21:35what happens in, in the new year, whether that's recording
- 21:38or, or, or getting back on the road.
- 21:42Obviously, we'll probably try and do another couple of the two
- 21:44is, you know, be great to get back over to you guys in 2026
- 21:48and do a tour and, and, and back over to Europe as well.
- 21:51And then, yeah, we'll just see where it takes us.
- 21:53But umm, we're definitely feeling rejuvenated having a a
- 21:58young man come and join us on the drums.
- 22:00He's only 24. And like, we've just got this
- 22:03energy and enthusiasm for the band now that's been quite
- 22:06infectious. So yeah, it's great that we've
- 22:09got so much cool stuff coming up.
- 22:11Amazing, amazing. Nobody's happier about the Acid
- 22:13bath reunion than me. Believe me when I tell you.
- 22:16Oh man. Mungus Dax as a guy that used to
- 22:19yell into a stick and is now once again yelling into an
- 22:21electric stick in a band nobody is.
- 22:23Like. He's one of the best front men
- 22:25and lyricists and song makers ever.
- 22:28His recent solo record from January, by the way, is fucking
- 22:31phenomenal. I love that man.
- 22:33How funny for me so far this year, yeah.
- 22:35Yeah, that me too like that. I have not stopped listening to
- 22:38that record since it came out. OK, I, I don't even want to
- 22:42listen to anything else that he those seven songs are some of
- 22:46the yeah, record of the year for me, for sure.
- 22:49Yeah, It's incredible. It's it's had a profound effect
- 22:53on me, that album. And, you know, like, I think I
- 22:55read it, heard an interview he did a while ago, and it was just
- 22:58like, yeah, he just honed his craft for the last sort of
- 23:00however many years he's been absent from the scene.
- 23:03And I love that man. And yeah, obviously love that.
- 23:08Yeah. I'm over here on YouTube.
- 23:11Yeah, we've had, we had somebody at one of the first, at the
- 23:13first show. So we we're lucky for that.
- 23:16We have some people tight with that the NOLA scene.
- 23:19Just the last question because I always like to end these with a
- 23:22wild card and you've been amazing as always.
- 23:24I expect nothing less than the best from you guys as a as a
- 23:28future traveler to your homeland, what what non touristy
- 23:33thing should I do? Should I visit your hometown?
- 23:36You know, what should I do as a as a visitor, but not to do the
- 23:39most touristy thing, what should I do?
- 23:41I would say as a music fan, I mean, if you're a music fan, I
- 23:45think there's like there's a little stretch of pubs and clubs
- 23:50in Melbourne in, in the two suburbs that it's sort of inner
- 23:55city Melbourne. There's like a little stretch
- 23:58along this street called Johnson St.
- 24:00And if you love heavy music and, and live music and all that sort
- 24:03of stuff, there's like the Bendigo Hotel.
- 24:06There is like a really cool pizza place called Thin Slizzy.
- 24:14Yes, yes, right. You get some pizzas, there's a
- 24:17couple record stores in between. There's a BMX shop there's and
- 24:22then there's the Tote Hotel, which is like probably the most
- 24:25legendary punk rock venue in Melbourne that you get to.
- 24:28And then you can walk up a little further and get up past
- 24:31Brunswick Street and go to the old bar and there's lots of
- 24:34little clubs and pubs around there.
- 24:36So that's like it's maybe a touristy thing, I guess if
- 24:40you're a music like a heavy music fan.
- 24:42But I mean, as a, as a general tourist, you probably wouldn't
- 24:47avoid that place like the plague.
- 24:49But but for people like us, that's, that's probably what
- 24:54you'd want to do. Man.
- 24:55It's just just walk up that street and just just pop your
- 24:59head in and check it all out. There's some really cool stuff
- 25:01in Melbourne. Right on, hopefully some good
- 25:03record shops. I'm sure there are if you're.
- 25:05Oh yeah, I mean heaps, heaps and heaps, heaps and heaps, heaps.
- 25:08I love it. The Young Person's Guide to King
- 25:11Parrot is coming out in June from House Corps records, the
- 25:14list of people who have sang Walk with Pantera Yungi and
- 25:17Aquaman. Jason Momoa.
- 25:19Not too shabby, Sir. Always a pleasure, man.
- 25:22Thank you again for what you do. I'm really again just proud to
- 25:26help keep supporting you and you keep the flame going.
- 25:28And when you get to hear to hear to the States, it's either if I
- 25:31don't see you, someone from our crew will come out and cover one
- 25:34of those shows. I'm super pumped.
- 25:35Awesome man, it'd be great to see you in the flesh if we can.
- 25:38And yeah, take care. And thanks again for your
- 25:40support. We're always very grateful.
