- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:10The ice cream is going to be flying fast and furious.
- 0:14Welcome to What's Your Least Favorite Scary Movie?
- 0:15The podcast where we talk about the good, about the ugly and the
- 0:18absurd and all of our favorite. And least favorite?
- 0:20Scary movies. Because we believe every horror
- 0:22movie rightfully has its fan base.
- 0:24Even if we don't always get it. My name is Travis.
- 0:26My name is Jessie. And welcome everybody.
- 0:28Today we're talking about Phantasm.
- 0:31Yes, we are. Yeah, this is the movie that I
- 0:33picked for Jessie for October, and it's one that she has not
- 0:36seen before, so gonna get into something a little new today.
- 0:41You we're getting into something, yeah.
- 0:44Yeah, that's a, that's a understatement for sure.
- 0:47But before we do, do we have any announcements?
- 0:50Oh, this weekend is to be or not to be.
- 0:53OK. So, you know, tune in for that.
- 0:57All right. I guess also if it sounds a
- 1:00little bit different, we're recording out in our living room
- 1:02today because Talia had some kind of thing that we're having
- 1:06to monitor. Yeah, so.
- 1:08She seems mostly OK but we're supposed to try and limit her
- 1:11activity and she runs the house when we're shut away recording
- 1:18so that's true. We really we relocated for this
- 1:22week, so it should be temporary. Yeah, so different mics.
- 1:26We're using our WAV mics and you know, obviously different
- 1:30settings since we're out in a completely different room.
- 1:33So just to give some context for everything in case it sounds
- 1:37like a little bit different. Yeah.
- 1:38So I've got her pole. OK, so on last week's episode we
- 1:43covered We Summon the Darkness. Indeed we did.
- 1:46Which features a lot of metal nerds.
- 1:49Indeed it does. So we figured we'd ask, Are
- 1:53metal fans nerds? Yeah, that was the that was the
- 1:57thesis that I levied at all metal fans.
- 2:00So. So it's time to see if you guys.
- 2:03Agree. Took it up to you guys.
- 2:04So over on Instagram 80% say hell yeah OK, 20% say hell Nah,
- 2:09and over on Twitter 86% hell yeah and 14% hell in a.
- 2:15OK, metal heads know they selves, good job.
- 2:20I think it's funny that some of them are like, no, fuck that.
- 2:24I'm not a nerd. It's funny.
- 2:27Yeah, I agree. I mean, I think that they are,
- 2:29which there's nothing wrong with it.
- 2:30You know, everybody's like. Everybody's nerdy about
- 2:33something. Yeah, if you're to the point
- 2:36where you classify as like a fan of something like that, you're
- 2:40kind of already a nerd. Yeah, if you use any kind of an
- 2:43identifier to say I am a fan of this particular thing.
- 2:47You're a nerd. Nerd.
- 2:48That's how it works. I'm sorry, Dane McBride said.
- 2:51So that's how it goes. Yeah, and when Dane McBride says
- 2:54it. It's.
- 2:55True. It's codified OK.
- 3:00Good, good. Good word.
- 3:04Vocabulary. No, thank you.
- 3:06Yeah. So yeah, I did a Dumber version
- 3:08of that. I almost said good thesaurus and
- 3:12that's not what I wanted. To say I would have understood
- 3:14that more, yeah. Well, you would have understood
- 3:17it because we say not the right words but with the general gist
- 3:21all the time to each other. Yeah, pretty much I.
- 3:23Got that Married shorthand. Yeah, Alright, so that's it.
- 3:26That's it for polls. That's it for everything.
- 3:29Alright, let's get into Fantasm. OK, alright.
- 3:32Do you want me to explain why I chose this one first or is that
- 3:34a later thing? Go ahead and explain what why
- 3:38you chose it for me. OK, well this is a movie that I
- 3:40saw a long time ago without you and it's one that I see a lot of
- 3:47people mention is like a cult classic type deal.
- 3:49OK, so. In a couple of different ways.
- 3:54Yeah, I suppose so. Yeah.
- 3:55But it was, I had a good time with it.
- 3:58I watched it on the last drive in their first Christmas special
- 4:02and it was really fun and it seemed like it had potential to
- 4:06be a really fun series. I have not watched any of the
- 4:09sequels. OK, because 2 is a little bit
- 4:14more different or difficult to find due to their rights, but we
- 4:18own it now so we can jump into the sequel after.
- 4:21This, it was funny because you bought it and you're like, I
- 4:23know you haven't seen the first one yet, but it's so hard to
- 4:26find this one anywhere. So while it's available to us,
- 4:28we're buying it. Yeah.
- 4:30I mean, you'd be able to rent it, but I don't want to do that.
- 4:32Yeah. So, yeah, it was a fun movie.
- 4:34It's a trippy movie. It's a weird little classic.
- 4:37So I wanted to, you know, I wanted to expose it to you.
- 4:41And also we have people from this movie, Don Cascarelli, and
- 4:47like 90% of the core casts of this series are going to be a
- 4:52scare fest this year. So yeah, important to.
- 4:56See them? Yeah.
- 4:57So yeah, that's why I chose it. Fair enough.
- 5:00OK. OK, so Phantasm released March
- 5:0428th, 1979. We watched it on Peacock.
- 5:08If you want to watch it anywhere, you can watch it just
- 5:11about anywhere. You can watch it on Fubo,
- 5:13Peacock, Roku Channel, AMC Plus, Toby, Pluto, Plex, Freebie, and
- 5:18Zumo. Yeah, I don't know what zumo is,
- 5:22but it's spelled with an X. Yeah, I don't know either, but
- 5:24you know, if you have it, there you go.
- 5:26If you absolutely have to rinse it, don't know why you.
- 5:31Would none of those free streaming services were
- 5:33explored? I almost just refused to write
- 5:36anything down for this section because there's so many free
- 5:39options here, but if you have to, maybe they.
- 5:41Want to send their money to to them to Don Cascarelli
- 5:45somewhere? Well, maybe.
- 5:47I don't know. I don't know how much he gets
- 5:48from the from the rental, but. I don't know either way.
- 5:52You got Amazon, you got YouTube, you got Apple TV and you got
- 5:55Fandango at home. So.
- 5:57It would be a really wild move to rent it from Amazon when it's
- 6:01on freebie. Well, like like you said, you.
- 6:06Know. If you got to if you absolutely
- 6:08have. To rent it, yeah.
- 6:10There you go. That's your option, all right.
- 6:12Written and directed by Don Cascorelli.
- 6:15Music by Fred Miro and Malcolm C Grave.
- 6:19Special effects makeup by Paul Pepperman.
- 6:22Starring Michael Baldwin as Mike, Bill Thornberry as Jodie,
- 6:27Reggie Bannister as Reggie, and Angus Scrim as the Tall Man.
- 6:31OK, all right, time for our favorite game budget or Button
- 6:37I. Don't know, those orbs were
- 6:40probably expensive. Not really.
- 6:42I'm just kidding. I think this is a bucked head.
- 6:45Yeah, it's bucked head. I actually do have a dollar
- 6:47figure on the orbs. Really.
- 6:49Yeah, somebody mentioned it. The guy that made it, he was
- 6:54like a metal worker. That's there's a bed at the.
- 6:59Source for that one? Up there, but he made it for
- 7:03them for like $1100 and he died before the movie screen so he
- 7:10didn't get to see his work on the big screen.
- 7:12Yeah. So were they like fully
- 7:13functional like the little like those pop out?
- 7:17Well, no, I don't think so. I mean kind of like, you know,
- 7:22there's like some stage ones. I was also reading, I guess
- 7:26we're getting into a little bit of the fun facts earlier, but
- 7:29the way that they got the shots for the ball going through the
- 7:31hall as they had a baseball pitcher throw it and they just
- 7:35like reverse the reel. No.
- 7:37Well, that's cool. Yeah, it is kind of cool, yeah.
- 7:40Was it a baseball pitcher from a team you like?
- 7:43They didn't say. They just said a baseball
- 7:45pitcher. Probably not.
- 7:46If he's, you know, doing stunts for a movie, he's probably not a
- 7:50professional anymore. OK, I just thought I'd ask.
- 7:53I know you're in an emotional state still right now.
- 7:56Yeah. I'm dead inside.
- 7:59I really don't care. All right, So the budget is
- 8:04300,000. So you are correct.
- 8:06It's Buck Ted, the opening box office I don't have a figure
- 8:11for, but I make up with that by having three figures for the
- 8:14worldwide gross. OK?
- 8:16So it's either 6.8 million, 11.9 million or 22 million, OK.
- 8:22And the weird thing is they all had sources.
- 8:24So which one is the correct source?
- 8:26I can't tell you. Yeah, I guess it would depend on
- 8:29what they're counting for the different like.
- 8:34I do know it made more than 6.8 million.
- 8:36I can tell you that one for sure.
- 8:37So that one's wrong. This feels like at trivia night
- 8:41when you get one of the random like multiple choice and you're
- 8:45like, is it a trick question? Yes, in this case, I guess kind
- 8:49of because we don't know. Yeah, OK.
- 8:52So IMDb 6.6. All right, yeah, good for
- 8:57Phantasm. Yeah, people like it.
- 9:00Ish OK so I've got 3 movies from 1979.
- 9:05OK, I will say 1979 is a pain in the ass to find any theme for
- 9:12because. There are just random years like
- 9:15that where it's like, I know movies came out around this
- 9:18time, but I guess not this specific year, you know?
- 9:21There's not a lot of horror movies, but there's a lot of big
- 9:25ones. OK, so I've got 3 here and I
- 9:30guess the theme is not what it seems, kind of.
- 9:34So the first movie is Alien. Which big movie?
- 9:39Yeah. The whole premise of that movie
- 9:41is they went to go check on like a mysterious signal, then they
- 9:45just thought it was going to be like a.
- 9:47The whole premise is that nobody listened to Ripley except for
- 9:49Jonesy, and like how that worked out for them.
- 9:52Yeah, it was just basically not what it seems.
- 9:55So that movie came out June 22nd, 1979 with an $11 million
- 10:01budget worldwide gross. By the way, not the year that
- 10:05was Morgan's birthday. Oh, happy birthday Morgan and
- 10:07the Year You Were Not Born. Budget $11 million Worldwide
- 10:12Gross 108 million IMDb 8.5. Yeah.
- 10:17Damn, that's a big one. All right, next movie, The
- 10:21Amityville Horror. OK.
- 10:23It's not what it seems. Because that's a good deal in
- 10:26the house. Yeah, it can't be too good.
- 10:29Can't. Be that good.
- 10:30Really, what you're expecting when you get a good deal on the
- 10:32House is like black mold. Yeah, exactly.
- 10:35Not ghosts. Yeah.
- 10:38Yeah. So that released July 27th, 1979
- 10:42Four point 7 million Budget $86 million gross 6.2 IMDb OK.
- 10:50Yeah, I think I've seen the original Amityville.
- 10:53Where one time I. Don't think I ever have.
- 10:57Yeah, we should probably watch it together.
- 10:59Yeah, there was a remake that came out when we were in school.
- 11:02Yeah, I saw Ryan. Reynolds One.
- 11:04Yeah, I saw that. They showed it cuz they used to
- 11:06do movies on the football field. Yeah, and I watched it like
- 11:10freshman year. I like college.
- 11:12I was talking about high school. But yeah, they, well, they
- 11:15showed. It yeah, they showed it in
- 11:16college. Yeah, yeah.
- 11:18Yeah, I don't think EKU was shelling out like exclusive
- 11:21rights for an in theaters movie. Maybe they would have like that
- 11:24one weird thing every now and then.
- 11:26That is true. They'd be like, hey, do you want
- 11:29to see Jerry Seinfeld on campus? Is that weird?
- 11:32Maybe. Yeah, I would.
- 11:33It was OK. That's a whole other thing.
- 11:36So the final movie Tourist trap, that one's multi wave for me.
- 11:45It's not what it seems because, well, you know, it's a little
- 11:48place and you know, it seems like a quiet little town with
- 11:53this guy with his bubby. But, you know, if you don't know
- 11:56the movie, then I won't ruin anything.
- 11:57But it's not what it seems to me, because it seemed like it
- 12:00would have been a really cool movie, but it wasn't.
- 12:02Yeah, it's, you know, we talked about last week how like they're
- 12:05Jessie movies can be very hit or miss.
- 12:08The same is true for Travis movies at times I guess.
- 12:10That's true, yeah. You know.
- 12:12And tourist trap is everything I would expect for you to like in
- 12:15a movie. Me too.
- 12:17Yeah. There was a lot of right things
- 12:19there that just didn't really work out in my favor.
- 12:22I understand why people like it though.
- 12:23Yeah, I know a lot of people really love that movie and I'm
- 12:26very happy for them. I God, that's I'm going to work
- 12:30on something else. If this absolutely has to be on
- 12:32the TV right now. That's that's where I'm at with.
- 12:35It yeah, I've given it several shots.
- 12:38I just, every time I walk away, I'm like just, it wasn't that
- 12:41great. I TuneIn for the interesting
- 12:43parts. Yeah, So I give it.
- 12:45It's like a total of maybe 20 minutes.
- 12:47Yeah. Well, a lot of people kind of
- 12:49say the House of Wax movie is kind of a remake of that.
- 12:54Yeah, which I could see that, Yeah.
- 12:56And House of Wax I feel like did better if you asked me, but I
- 13:01know that I'm definitely in the minority.
- 13:03Controversial yet brave. Yeah, obviously we're a big
- 13:06House of Wax fans, and it's not just cuz of JPADS.
- 13:10No, it's not. It's a.
- 13:12Good thing, although it's not because of JPADS, it doesn't.
- 13:15Hurt to have. Him.
- 13:17I know that that was impossible back in 1979, so I won't fault
- 13:21this movie for that. I'm.
- 13:22Going to say this is really nice because like we can look at each
- 13:24other while we're talking this time it's true being like side
- 13:27by side it's. A little nice.
- 13:28I also feel a little bit out of my element because I'm not in my
- 13:31usual scene with like a microphone in my face right now.
- 13:34I feel comfy. I've got my fuzzy blinky on my
- 13:36cider. Yeah, Talia snoring in the
- 13:39background. She is, Yeah.
- 13:41OK, so God, what did I say? You've read about.
- 13:46That OK? No, I don't think I gave any of
- 13:48the information yet. So it released March 16th, 1979.
- 13:52So it was playing at the same time as Phantasm budget 350,000.
- 13:57So it's like $50,000 more than Phantasm, but I don't have the
- 14:03gross IMDb 6 out of 10. OK, all right, I got some tag
- 14:07lines. All right, I hope they're silly,
- 14:10because this maybe deserves some silly tag lines.
- 14:13They are kind of silly a little bit, yeah.
- 14:15So the one on the poster is If this one doesn't scare you,
- 14:20you're already dead. Oh yeah, I forgot that the 70s
- 14:23are mostly tag lines about like accusations towards the
- 14:27audience. Yeah.
- 14:30Well, this one it turns more into the silly territory.
- 14:35If you're looking for a horror that's got balls, it's found to
- 14:39you. I love that.
- 14:42I love that. I'm never going to be mad about
- 14:44a ball pun. It's.
- 14:45Pretty funny this ball wants to play with you for keeps.
- 14:51It had me until the for keeps. Yeah, I don't get that.
- 14:55That one kind of confused me a little bit.
- 14:58OK, beware the ball. Beware the tall man.
- 15:01Beware the never dead. Never.
- 15:04That's a cool term for that. Yeah, I like that.
- 15:07Did we ever hear it anywhere in the movie?
- 15:10Maybe sequels? OK.
- 15:12I don't know. All right, Final one where the
- 15:16dead are no longer that way. OK, that's kind.
- 15:21Of cool, yeah. I mean, it's cool, yeah.
- 15:24You have to stop and think about it.
- 15:25And then you're like, that's one of those.
- 15:28Ones where like you say, and you could register as deep, but also
- 15:31like if you just look at it at face value, it's kind of stupid,
- 15:36you know? But that's, that's what I like
- 15:38about it. Yeah, that's how I say most
- 15:40things. I'm glad you said it so I didn't
- 15:43have to. It's OK, I saw your face.
- 15:47OK, it's. Because we're looking at each
- 15:49other. Let's do fun facts.
- 15:52All right, so the initial idea for this movie came from a
- 15:55nightmare that Don Casarelli had where he was actually being
- 15:59chased by orbs through a hallway.
- 16:02And they, well, he was afraid that they would drill his head,
- 16:06which is exactly what happens in this movie.
- 16:08That's what those orbs do. He chose to make a horror movie
- 16:12for his next film when he did this because of the poor
- 16:17performances that his previous movies said, which I think that
- 16:20they were more comedies. Maybe he did like 2 before this
- 16:24I think, but they didn't. They didn't do too well.
- 16:27Are you looking this up right? Now yeah, I want to see what his
- 16:30other movies are. Oh dude, he wrote Babajotep and
- 16:33John dies at the end. Ding Dogs. 1-2 they did.
- 16:37Oh, I haven't even heard of these other two.
- 16:40Jim, the World's Greatest and Kenny and Company.
- 16:44OK, yeah, Kenny and company was the one that he did for this
- 16:48movie. Masters of Horror, Shawn dies at
- 16:51the end and then just a bunch of Phantasm movies.
- 16:54Yeah, yeah. He's working on that movie
- 16:56series like, I think from the start to the end, which is kind
- 17:00of actually one of the cool things about this movie is the
- 17:02whole cast and crew has stuck throughout except his one weird
- 17:06thing in Phantasm 2, they didn't want to cast Mike.
- 17:13They want like, Universal got the rights for it and they like,
- 17:17blew it up and like, all right, let's turn this into like a big,
- 17:19you know, Hollywood production thing.
- 17:22And I guess one of the things I read was they didn't want the
- 17:25kid. They're like, all right, we'll
- 17:26do it, but I don't want that fucking kid.
- 17:28I mean he was the only like definitive survivor in this.
- 17:36Yeah, I guess the only one we didn't see die.
- 17:40Yeah, that's what I mean. Although I guess you could
- 17:43interpret it like what if he actually did die when he fell
- 17:46into the portal? Oh Dang.
- 17:48Yeah, you don't know. Yeah.
- 17:50But either way, they've all been consistent throughout.
- 17:53But OK, so he chose to do a horror movie after all that
- 17:57stuff, That last one something. Jim, the world's Greatest and
- 18:01Kenny and Company. Kenny and company, yeah, he, he
- 18:05wanted to do horror for his next one because he he knew that they
- 18:09had better, they tend to do better performance wise, lower
- 18:12budget people tend to go out for horror movies.
- 18:15But also, he saw the reactions that he got from a jump scare in
- 18:19that movie, and that kind of got him interested in making
- 18:22something that is, you know, scary.
- 18:25There were some legitimate jump scares in this movie for me too.
- 18:28So in order to get this thing funded, it was funded partially,
- 18:34I think mostly actually by his dad.
- 18:36Papa Costco? Really.
- 18:37Yeah, he he did most of the funding they had like other
- 18:40professionals that did it too, but it was kind of low budget.
- 18:44Obviously. He also has his mom helping.
- 18:48She did special effects for something I'm.
- 18:50At classical. Really did some costumes and
- 18:54also did some make out. That's sweet.
- 18:56Yeah. I like that both his parents
- 18:58were involved. Yeah, it was actually.
- 18:59A lot of the cast and crew were working on it.
- 19:02They were all small, from what I was reading.
- 19:04They're all a bunch of people that are amateurs trying to
- 19:08become professionals, so it's just like a lot of people
- 19:12working together. I mean, that's how a lot of low
- 19:15budget indie horror movies are even in 2024.
- 19:20Yeah, they did filming on weekends, mostly because he was
- 19:24able to rent the equipment on Fridays, which means you got to
- 19:29keep them for Saturday and Sunday without being charged
- 19:31those days. Smart, so you game the system.
- 19:34They barely had a scripts. Oh, you don't say.
- 19:38Yeah. So it was, they said that it was
- 19:41basically they're flying off of the seat of their pants.
- 19:44Is that the term? Flying by the seat of their
- 19:46pants. Flying by the seat of their
- 19:48pants, they were just kind of riffing with it.
- 19:50He had a lot of ideas. He, he had like a solid idea of
- 19:54like where he wanted the movie to come from, but he didn't
- 19:57really know how to play out. So really they ended up
- 20:01improvising a lot of scenes. Yeah.
- 20:03Let's see, I got a quote here. Actually, if anybody's confused
- 20:06about the movie, about what it is or why it is, this is like
- 20:10basically the theme for the movie.
- 20:13This is a quote from him. I had a compunction to try to do
- 20:17something in the horror genre, and I started thinking about how
- 20:19our culture handles death. It's different than in other
- 20:22societies. We have this central figure of a
- 20:24mortician. He dresses in dark clothing, he
- 20:26works behind doors. They do procedures on the bodies
- 20:29we don't know about. The whole embalming thing.
- 20:31If you ever do any research on it is pretty freaky.
- 20:34It all culminates in this grand funerary service production.
- 20:37It's strange stuff. I mean, he's not wrong about
- 20:42literally any of it. And if you think about it, even
- 20:44going back to things like The Mummy, one of the earliest
- 20:47Universal horror monsters, right, it's a similar kind of
- 20:50premise because once again, think about the process of how a
- 20:54mummy is mummified. You know, they're like pull out
- 20:57the brain through the nose. They like they're they're, you
- 21:01know, rights for the ancient Egyptians was was very much, you
- 21:08know, something we're not familiar with.
- 21:10But even if we are familiar with like, thinking about it in
- 21:12detail feels kind of gruesome, so.
- 21:15Yeah, a little bit, yeah. It was weird because my mom is
- 21:19always weirdly a part of the process of that whenever like
- 21:23she would have a customer and I would pass away.
- 21:25Oh, did she do their hair? For them, yeah, they, they do
- 21:28like they do all this stuff and even like.
- 21:31Grim but sweet. Actually, yeah, it's kind of
- 21:33cool. Like their family would be like,
- 21:36hey, like, can you do their hair one last time?
- 21:39So it does get weird. And yeah, when you see the
- 21:43people, they often don't even look the same.
- 21:46Yeah, yeah, it's a lot. Yeah, so that was a big part of
- 21:51it. He also had the whole thing of
- 21:53like, being a kid and how kids handle that stuff.
- 21:56Like one of the central themes about this is basically how, you
- 21:59know kids get scared and nobody believes them about the things
- 22:02that they get scared. Of yeah, especially like when
- 22:05you're going through things that like adults do understand, it's
- 22:08so easy to be like, Oh well, you're just like taking this
- 22:11thing and projecting it on to something else.
- 22:13Like, it's so easy to, you know, push that, like, push that aside
- 22:19for your child. I don't want to say gaslighting
- 22:21because it's not like intentional, Yeah, but.
- 22:23There's a way that people handle those conversations with kids
- 22:26where you're kind of just lying to them just to try and save
- 22:30them. And then when they get on,
- 22:31they're like, yeah, I was fucking lying.
- 22:33Yeah. That wasn't real.
- 22:37Yeah, so actually that's part of the reason why.
- 22:41So the weird not having a consistent vision is part of the
- 22:45reason why dream logic is a thing in this movie, is because
- 22:48he didn't really have an idea. The editing process got weird.
- 22:52They filmed several endings. This movie was actually over
- 22:55three hours long originally. She's his age.
- 22:58He had to cut a lot of it because he was afraid that it
- 23:01wouldn't hold audience's attention at that level.
- 23:04It would not have held mine. It wouldn't have mine either,
- 23:07but then again, we watch movies like Midsummer and those movies
- 23:10fly by. That yeah, well, that's a very
- 23:12specific kind of narrative. That's true.
- 23:16Dream logic is a very different kind of narrative and it lends
- 23:22itself to a shorter format I think most of the time.
- 23:25So not really having a clear vision, like just kind of made
- 23:29editing kind of weird for him. They filmed several endings,
- 23:32like I said, but one of them actually makes a return in
- 23:36Phantasm 4. So if you're watching Phantasm
- 23:404, a lot of that stuff is the result of this movie, one of the
- 23:44unused bits of footage that they have.
- 23:47So Don Cascarelli paid an audience for a test screening
- 23:50just to see how people felt about it.
- 23:53It did not go well. Apparently he's courted as
- 23:55saying it was a disaster, but he did get some positive reactions
- 23:59from it. So he kind of took a win from
- 24:01that. And the only reason this thing
- 24:03actually got purchased for distribution is because of
- 24:06Halloween's success. It came out the year before.
- 24:09It did really well. Horror movies were kind of
- 24:11booming, so people were taking gambles on them.
- 24:13So somebody's like, fuck it, let's do it, let's roll with it,
- 24:15let's roll the dice on this one. And yeah, clearly it didn't do
- 24:20amazing, but it didn't do badly. It did enough came a whole
- 24:23favor. Most recently was had a release
- 24:27in 2016, so. Yeah, it's a cult favorite.
- 24:30Yeah. You know, which is usually
- 24:32movies I don't do well, but I think this one did OK enough.
- 24:36Yeah. Anyways, I feel like my
- 24:37information on this was as jumbled as the vision for this
- 24:39movie, but that's all I've got. I feel like I learned a lot.
- 24:43OK. Well, I hope everybody else
- 24:45thank you. All right, so that's it for my
- 24:47stuff. So let's get into the good, bad,
- 24:50ugly and absurd. Jesse, you kick it off.
- 24:53What did you like about it? Man, so I said after we watched
- 24:57this that I was glad that we had a day longer than normal between
- 25:02watching the movie and recording the episode so that way I had
- 25:05time to process. Did it actually help?
- 25:08I do think it helped because I've had time to like kind of
- 25:11ruminate on bits and pieces of it.
- 25:13Also, I'll get into it in a second.
- 25:17It did kind of put me in a weird headspace yesterday, so I like
- 25:22that. I read a lot of fantasy novels,
- 25:26and with fantasy novels, you just kind of are immersed in the
- 25:30world and they don't explain shit.
- 25:33So you're just kind of like, OK, this is a thing that's happening
- 25:37and I appreciate it when movies do the same thing when they're
- 25:41like, weird enough and you just have to accept it as part of the
- 25:45universe. So like, we've got these flying
- 25:47orbs. We don't really get an
- 25:49explanation for why, but it's creepy and it's a cool effect
- 25:53and I'm OK with it. It's part of what they do.
- 25:57I'm cool. We get like half an explanation
- 26:01for the dead being like shrunken down because of the gravity on
- 26:04the planet. Like, OK, cool.
- 26:08Don't really explain how that's happening other than barrels.
- 26:12I, you know, like we're, we have basically as much information as
- 26:16the main characters and I always think that's a little bit more
- 26:18fun, you know what I mean? Yeah, I I also just, I guess to
- 26:22ride with you on this. It's a grounded world in a way.
- 26:27But at the same time, supernatural stuff isn't
- 26:30uncommon because it opens with Mike seeing like like a fortune
- 26:35teller or I don't know what she is.
- 26:37She's just this woman that like. Yeah.
- 26:39Has magical abilities, yeah, but it's like for him, well, maybe I
- 26:45guess it goes into the part like is it because it's from the kid,
- 26:49the kids imagination, right. You know, like he's like, well,
- 26:53it makes sense to me because I'm a kid.
- 26:55I went to see this woman. She told me don't be afraid.
- 26:56So I'm like, OK, I won't be afraid.
- 26:59She made a box appear. Yeah.
- 27:02That's why like every kid deals with that shit right there.
- 27:04Yeah, and then I think also the ending is very realistic and
- 27:09heartbreaking. You know, it makes it hard to
- 27:13understand what did and didn't happen in the movie.
- 27:17You know what I mean? Spoilers, obviously, but like,
- 27:20we think Reggie's dead and that Mike and Jody survived, and then
- 27:24Mike wakes up and Reggie's taking care of him because Mike
- 27:27had actually died a year prior. Yeah.
- 27:30And I've been having constant dreams over the past year of
- 27:37somebody that I have lost still being alive, and then I have to
- 27:41wake up and process all over again.
- 27:45And I think this movie triggered that in me that night.
- 27:48So like yesterday, I was like in a weird space with it.
- 27:52And I think that, you know, if he's trying to touch on those
- 27:55themes of like the gruesomeness of death, you know, going beyond
- 28:01just the funeral stuff, but like how people process it, He hit on
- 28:05a very real thing that I don't think really gets talked about a
- 28:09lot. You know, people talk about like
- 28:10dreaming of people that they've lost, but it they don't talk
- 28:13about how like it. It's like an additional
- 28:16processing thing. I don't know.
- 28:18It was, it was just. Struck a chord.
- 28:22Yeah, I got you. Yeah, Yeah.
- 28:23It hit a very raw nerve and not in a way that like it was like.
- 28:28It's like in the way it hits. If you can't, it's oh, what the
- 28:31fuck ending, You know what I mean?
- 28:33I guess it yeah, I get your mileage may vary based off of
- 28:36your experiences with how you process that stuff.
- 28:39Yeah. Cuz yeah, for me, like, you
- 28:42know, it was just kind of, I guess it surprised me again
- 28:46seeing it with you. I'm like, oh fuck, I forgot.
- 28:50He like is I knew Reggie was back, but I just thought he like
- 28:54showed it was like, hey, I'm Reggie.
- 28:56I'm back because like, you know, that's like 90% of his movies.
- 29:00Like don't worry, wreck my ice cream truck back there.
- 29:03I went into another dimension. It's OK.
- 29:05I'm Reggie. That's, you know, that's what I
- 29:07thought we were getting. But now he's like, dude, your
- 29:10brother died, you know, you're just having a hard time
- 29:14processing this shit. And I'm going to take you and
- 29:17we're going to go on the road. And I don't know what we're
- 29:19going to do, but I'm going to play this guitar right now.
- 29:21Yeah. Everybody needs a Reggie.
- 29:24Yeah. In their life.
- 29:26Honestly, Reggie is one of the best parts about this movie.
- 29:28All right. Do you have any more to go?
- 29:31That's it. Like, I mean, the whole movie is
- 29:33just kind of a vibe. Yeah.
- 29:37It probably depends on what kind of a person you are and what
- 29:40kind of a headspace you're in on.
- 29:41If it's a good or a bad vibe. It was very much what the fuck?
- 29:45But I was OK with the what the fuck if that makes sense.
- 29:49Yeah, it's weird. It's a weird movie.
- 29:51Yeah. So I guess my good things.
- 29:55I really like this cast that we have, the core group of people
- 29:59that we have. I thought that they worked
- 30:01really well together. Like I said before, I love
- 30:03Reggie. I like the kid, the kids, cool.
- 30:06He's like, I don't even know, man.
- 30:09Like he behaves like a kid, but he also behaves like an adult at
- 30:13time. So like, he'll be there.
- 30:14He'll be fucking driving the car with a Jodie in the passenger
- 30:17seat, and then he gets out and he works on the car while Jodie
- 30:19just goes over and plays guitar and shit, you know what I mean?
- 30:22Yeah, it's like a weird dynamic that.
- 30:24And Jodie stands right over the the hood of the car saying,
- 30:28yeah, I'm going to ship the kid off to our aunts.
- 30:30Right in his fucking face. Yeah, he's he's bold for that.
- 30:35Yeah. I like the imagery in this movie
- 30:37a lot. I think that they do a lot of
- 30:39cool shots, especially when we're in the mausoleum.
- 30:44What's the place called again in Mosgrove Morningside.
- 30:48Yeah, yeah, yeah, Morningside. Like the marble interior and
- 30:52stuff in like the hallways. Yeah, like a mausoleum is a real
- 30:55thing. I know.
- 30:56That's the. Actual term for the.
- 30:57Place but then. I was thinking of the actual,
- 31:00the name of the building itself. Yeah.
- 31:03But yeah, I know those shots are really cool.
- 31:05I like the flying orb thing a lot.
- 31:07It happens like twice. But like, and we don't get any
- 31:11explanation for why we have flying orbs in there.
- 31:14But you know, that's kind of one of the things I like about
- 31:16certain horror movies is you get into a weird place and it's a
- 31:20lot of what the fuck? And you don't know why, and the
- 31:23not knowing why and no reasoning or logic behind it kind of adds
- 31:28to the uneasiness, Especially when you have the tall man.
- 31:32The tall man is such a fucking cool idea for a villain just
- 31:36like this tall older dude. Yeah, he cuz he is like really
- 31:40fucking tall and honestly like he's got, he's a good lurker.
- 31:46He is. He's got a good face.
- 31:47Yeah. Yeah, he he plays the part well.
- 31:50It's just he's a good presence on screen.
- 31:52He's a good enemy to have for Mike.
- 31:55Yeah. Apart from the things that you
- 31:57said, those are my goods. OK.
- 32:00OK, bad. Like, like I said, I'm fine with
- 32:04the what the fuck, miss, but I do think that there are a lot of
- 32:08elements just kind of thrown in, yeah that don't really make a
- 32:15ton of. Like we get a bunch of random
- 32:17characters that are cannon fodder but they're so tied to
- 32:22the main characters like storyline that their endings
- 32:27feel like undeserved and how they happen, you know what I
- 32:32mean? See, my bad is I think the same
- 32:34as yours. It's so I like having movies
- 32:39that like I said, are weird and they don't have explanations.
- 32:43But this movie didn't feel like it was intentional.
- 32:46It just kind of felt like it was a mess when they were trying to
- 32:51figure it's like they didn't know.
- 32:54And I feel like that's easy to see when you watch the movie
- 32:58because yeah, if I'm watching something like one of those
- 33:01weird Adult Swim things where it's weird and like they don't,
- 33:05you know, it's, it's like weird and all over the place.
- 33:08But like, I feel like there's a purpose.
- 33:10Yeah. You know what I mean?
- 33:12Whereas this like and hearing you explain the background
- 33:16behind it, I was like, well that explains about 90% of the
- 33:19questions I have. Yeah.
- 33:21And I think the the worst part of it for me is the opening
- 33:25because it goes so many places. Yeah, and see, and like there's
- 33:32things like, so Tommy is lured out to the cemetery to be
- 33:35killed. So I guess he's like, people
- 33:37aren't dying fast enough in this small town.
- 33:38Whatever. He's got to recruit them.
- 33:41That's my interpretation of it. I have no clue that's the
- 33:43correct interpretation. But like, what happens, like
- 33:46that little girl that comes in, the granddaughter, the
- 33:49grandmother's granddaughter, and she's just killed.
- 33:52We don't see if she's ever turned into anybody.
- 33:55Like why, you know, Morph himself.
- 33:58I'm just confused about the victimology of it all and why he
- 34:04needs to lure people out. Like I'm just I don't
- 34:07understand. Yeah, I don't either.
- 34:09I can't give you any answer. I've seen this movie like three
- 34:14Times Now, maybe 4:00, and yeah, it's just a weird fucking movie.
- 34:18OK, so ugly. What's up?
- 34:23I mean, I guess a lot of what Mike is going through, you know,
- 34:28like whatever his interpretations of Jodi are seem
- 34:33to show a lot of his like, inner fears.
- 34:36So like the whole, I'm gonna ship him off to his aunts and
- 34:44you know, then his like dream, is it real?
- 34:46Is it not? Is he still alive?
- 34:48You know, things like that. I think just like a lot of his
- 34:51life is ugly, he's also having like he's being targeted by the
- 34:56tall boy again. Tall boy, you doing that
- 34:59intentionally? Yes.
- 34:59OK, internally, counting how many times I could say it before
- 35:08you got frustrated and I got too, so that's fun.
- 35:11I did write Tall Boy all the way through my notes.
- 35:13I don't like. That but yeah, so again, it
- 35:19comes back to like what is his victimology?
- 35:22You know what I mean? I'm so like as he just after
- 35:26Mike because Mike's on to him, but like nobody is believing
- 35:30Mike, except then Jody does start to believe Mike because of
- 35:33his fingers. And then, Oh my God, his fingers
- 35:35turning into a giant bug. Bug.
- 35:39Yeah, that's gross. Yeah, yeah.
- 35:43So I'd say that's that's the gist of my ugly.
- 35:46OK, yeah, this is a weird one to, you know, I guess like
- 35:50turning these people. They say that the dwarves in the
- 35:57movie are becoming slaves, which I guess that's fucked up if
- 36:02you're just learning people to, you know, have sex with them and
- 36:07then turn them into slave dwarfs.
- 36:10That's not, you know, that's not good.
- 36:14I don't think that that's a good thing.
- 36:16Yeah, but do we know if that's the case?
- 36:18I don't know. Mike just, like, saw a bunch of
- 36:20them. He's like slaves.
- 36:22And like, here's a gun. It feels like it's mostly only
- 36:25men. Yeah.
- 36:26And I'm confused. Like I I'm just.
- 36:29I'm. I think we've only saw like
- 36:30what, 2 divorce faces? It was Tommy, and maybe it was
- 36:36just Tommy. Yeah, well, and like they see
- 36:38that their father's body is not in the casket, so they have an
- 36:41assumption they're they don't check for their moms.
- 36:43That's true. They don't.
- 36:45I don't think they had enough time at that point.
- 36:47They had flying orbs to worry. About yeah, that's true.
- 36:50Yeah. Yeah, been orbed.
- 36:52Yeah, OK, absurd. OK, besides the fingies.
- 36:58Yeah. And I go with how often closed
- 37:01captioning use the word warbling.
- 37:04Yeah, it's not the terminalities, but I'm not mad
- 37:07that they used to. Also, whenever the warbling is
- 37:10strange versus normalized, I again I I want some internal
- 37:15consistency. I'm OK with not having the rules
- 37:17explained to me, I just want there to be consistency in them.
- 37:20I think it's funny that this movie, that's the thing that you
- 37:24was like, and that's the weird part about it.
- 37:26Well I feel like it would be a cop out to say like everything.
- 37:31No, you can get very specific. I got 3 examples right here.
- 37:33OK, let's hear your examples. All right, first one bullet
- 37:38hammer. Oh yeah, I forgot about that.
- 37:43Mike busts out of his room because Jodi locks him in his
- 37:47bedroom by taking a hammer. And.
- 37:50Taping a bullet, A screwdriver. I was saying Jodi locks him in
- 37:54there with like by shoving a screwdriver into the like
- 37:57wedging it into. The door?
- 37:58No, this is the construction of the hammer.
- 38:00Weapon I feel like Jodi should be the child's name and Mike
- 38:03should be the adult's name, so I'm having to be very careful
- 38:07during this conversation. So yeah, he did that and he
- 38:11busts out by just banging it up against the door, which created
- 38:14a hole. So, you know, I like the idea of
- 38:16it, but that's weird. Yeah.
- 38:19The second one is the tall man fucks his victims.
- 38:22You didn't have to do that. You didn't have to turn into a
- 38:26woman to where these people over there and fuck them.
- 38:28No, you know. What I mean, he could have just
- 38:30like, you know, gotten them when he had them isolated, but he
- 38:33like he waits until they finish. Is that a kindness on his part?
- 38:38I think that's a kink on his part.
- 38:41I think he's into it. Yeah.
- 38:43Which is weird. It's like adding that extra
- 38:46little bit like do you think it's good for him?
- 38:49Do you think he likes it if he like turns into the old man and
- 38:52then that's when they finish? Or does it like mid finish he
- 38:56turns into the old man to like jolt them into like, oh, because
- 38:59that's going to be one of the most confusing finishes that
- 39:02you've, you know. That if he does it mid finish
- 39:05like where does their pee pee go?
- 39:07Dude, I don't die, but you know the.
- 39:13From the angle that seems unrealistic, but.
- 39:16I don't know, man. I don't know.
- 39:19I don't care to get into the details either.
- 39:22You opened this can of forms. OK, let me close it and I'll
- 39:26present my final bit of when they are in the house and a
- 39:32random woman I can't even remember her name comes down.
- 39:34She's like hey, where have you all been?
- 39:35And like Jesus, what are you doing here?
- 39:36You almost gave me a heart attack.
- 39:38No, hold on, I wrote it down where I just have to figure out
- 39:42where it's at. I think it's misses Casey.
- 39:46No, it's not. No, it's Myrtle.
- 39:48So I wrote. Who the fuck is Myrtle?
- 39:49Yeah, and she is never to be seen again.
- 39:52She shows up for one scene to scare Reggie.
- 39:55And that's it. I want the Side Story of Reggie
- 39:59and Myrtle it seems. I want their buddy cop movie.
- 40:01Was this in Reggie's home? I don't think so.
- 40:05I won't think it was in Jodie and Mike's home.
- 40:08But maybe they've been in Reggie's home this whole time
- 40:11because Mike was actually living with Reggie.
- 40:13Because Jodie's dead. I don't.
- 40:15It's weird. Yeah.
- 40:17Maybe that's just like a weird part of, you know, the kid
- 40:21nightmare dream where it's like, oh, and Myrtle's here.
- 40:24Like, yeah. Whoa.
- 40:25OK, that was a weird detour we took.
- 40:26Yeah, like. All right, that's good.
- 40:29Maybe we unpack this in later Phantasm movies.
- 40:32I hope she. Arrives.
- 40:33I hope. Yes, I hope.
- 40:35We have Myrtle for five seconds in each movie.
- 40:38Yeah, scaring Reggie. But in one of them, Reggie
- 40:42scares Myrtle. Which is a fake out because and
- 40:48so it's not actually Myrtle. And then Myrtle scares him.
- 40:51OK. OK.
- 40:55So what do you rate it? I think right now I'm going to
- 40:58give it a 6.75. OK, that's where I'm at.
- 41:03I think for me 7 1/2 is where it's at.
- 41:06That's where it's at. I'm not going to do this math in
- 41:09my head today. It's just not happening. 7.125,
- 41:14starting average, OK. That's solid.
- 41:16Yeah, OK. All right, let's do this thing.
- 41:22All right, so we begin in the cemetery with two people
- 41:26fucking. My first note says moaning and
- 41:29boning. Moaning and boning, Yeah, that's
- 41:31true. So it's like we were just
- 41:33talking about. Oh, Tommy, dude, he just, he's
- 41:38just laying there. He's like the he's doing the
- 41:42dude version of star fishing. Yeah.
- 41:44Yeah. That was great.
- 41:47And that lighting is not kind to his very 70s facial hair.
- 41:53Yeah, neither is his very 70s facial hair kind of him.
- 41:57All right. So they're having sex, and right
- 42:01whenever he's done, they just keep zooming in on the woman's
- 42:05face, and then it turns into a tall man.
- 42:08Yeah. With a scowl.
- 42:10He's not happy. No, you know what?
- 42:12It wouldn't kill him to smile after this, you know what I
- 42:16mean? Yeah, like, dude, if this was
- 42:18your kink, I don't know. Enjoy your moment.
- 42:19Like, you didn't have to take it this far, man.
- 42:22You didn't have to if you didn't want to.
- 42:24If you're not having a good time, don't do this.
- 42:26Yeah, like it's really not necessary because just the
- 42:31thought of having sex appears to be enough to get most men in
- 42:35this town out to the cemetery. Yeah, right.
- 42:38Yeah, they don't question it. Yeah, what What they should be
- 42:41questioning is Tommy's two best friends, Jodi and Reggie.
- 42:44They are there for the funeral some undisclosed amount of time
- 42:48later. And I think that he has killed
- 42:50himself. Which stabbing yourself in the
- 42:53chest. Odd decision, Yeah.
- 42:56I mean, I mean, maybe they don't have the details.
- 42:58Yeah, yeah. I mean, they were all weird
- 43:01things, suicides all the time. Also like, what was his home
- 43:04life like? Because yeah, because if Reggie
- 43:09and Jodi are his two best friends, like, how often is he
- 43:14saying that? Who supposedly found the body?
- 43:17I guess whoever worked at the cemetery.
- 43:19Yeah, but like, what's the cover story?
- 43:21Because obviously, like, we know that the tall boy has.
- 43:24Were they? Yeah, I don't know.
- 43:26Whoa. The thing is, I think they all
- 43:28end up there anyways because he's the mortician, I think.
- 43:33Yes, that I understand, but like, what is the cover story
- 43:36for the rest of the town? Oh, I don't know.
- 43:39That's what I'm saying. Like the people that show up to
- 43:41the funeral, what do they think happened beyond supposedly he
- 43:44killed himself? I think if we're really wanting
- 43:47to get this deep into it, it was probably, oh, he died.
- 43:51Cops are saying word in the street is maybe he killed
- 43:54himself. Still an ongoing investigation.
- 43:57Cops are like all right boys, back it up.
- 44:00Good job take. Them away toys.
- 44:03All right, so yeah, they're doing that.
- 44:07Meanwhile, Mike has followed them there.
- 44:10He wasn't supposed to be there because, you know, Jody didn't
- 44:14want him to see Tommy dead. I guess he wanted to protect his
- 44:1713 year old brother from this. Yeah.
- 44:21So he decided to take upon himself to dirt bike over there,
- 44:24Yeah. And just kind of watched from a.
- 44:25Distance of stalking methods. Yeah, you know, So he continues
- 44:33watching after the fact, after everybody leaves.
- 44:35And then he watches as the tall man is by himself, and he takes
- 44:39the casket that had Tommy and then picks it up by himself and
- 44:42loads it back up in the hearse. But also like this casket, we
- 44:45saw it get lowered into the grave, so that means at some
- 44:49point he had to watch it get unlowered before the tall boy.
- 44:52Just like shoves it back in the hearse.
- 44:55Yeah, you're no logic in this movie, OK?
- 44:58You can't bring logic, because if we do that, we're going to
- 45:01stop and question every single thing in this movie.
- 45:03Also, I'm sorry once again, the hearse is literally coming down
- 45:09from the mausoleum to the graveyard.
- 45:12A total of maybe 400 feet. It's not that far.
- 45:16Yeah, but do you want to carry it all the way from there to the
- 45:20grave? Because that's a big carry.
- 45:22It it feels like it's not that much more than getting it into
- 45:25the hearse. Have you ever?
- 45:27Have you ever carried one of those?
- 45:29No Heavy. Very heavy.
- 45:32I know that, I'm just saying it feels very decorative.
- 45:35Yeah, Yeah, maybe it is a show like he said in his little thing
- 45:40there. Yeah, it becomes like a whole
- 45:43little performance, basically in the the mind of a child, which
- 45:48if we're watching this from a mind from a child, I mean, it's
- 45:52gonna be weird, weirdly exaggerated.
- 45:55So he sees, he freaks out. He's just to hear some warbling.
- 46:00He's just got normalized warbling inside where Jody is
- 46:06looking at his parents resting place.
- 46:09He gets strange warbling, yes. So yeah.
- 46:13Mike. Distinction.
- 46:14Yeah. Mike gets warbling.
- 46:16Jody gets strange warbling. So it cuts to Mike now visiting
- 46:21a friend's grandma. Yeah.
- 46:24Assuming she's a psychic, they don't say it I.
- 46:28Don't think it's. I don't think the girl is his
- 46:30friend either. They don't.
- 46:32There's no connection. He just shows up to this place
- 46:34and he's like I. Need to talk to your
- 46:35grandmother? Yeah, OK, So they go over there.
- 46:38She see this is a weird thing. It's just, like, it starts
- 46:44cutting back and forth, and it's a little bit jarring, and it's
- 46:48hard to tell what's happening. So it cuts back to, like, at the
- 46:51house. He's working on the car.
- 46:54Meanwhile, Toby stops by to chat with Jodie.
- 46:58And he's like, hey, man, just stop by wanting to say, I heard
- 47:01about your all's parents. And I wanted to say, I'm sorry
- 47:03to hear that. And he's like, yeah.
- 47:05He's like, So what are you doing in this town anyways?
- 47:07You know, I thought that this place would be too small for you
- 47:09after, you know, whatever you were doing beforehand.
- 47:12Yeah, what is Jodie's life? I.
- 47:14Don't know, maybe there's a musician because, you know, this
- 47:17whole thing is playing guitar here later on.
- 47:19But yeah, he's like, yeah, man, I'm not gonna be here long.
- 47:23I'm about to ship the boy, my brother over here off to the
- 47:27ants. He doesn't even say my brother,
- 47:28he says the kid. Yeah, the kid gonna give him
- 47:31over to the ants and I'm just gonna go and move out and pick
- 47:34it back up and cuts back to Mike meeting the grandma psychic and
- 47:41she's like, yeah, he's gonna leave you, but he's.
- 47:44Not gonna leave you. Yeah.
- 47:45So he'll take you with him. Yeah, no, yeah.
- 47:47Mike was telling her like, yeah, I think that was Mike telling
- 47:50her the story of her hearing that.
- 47:52She's like, don't worry, wherever he goes, you're gonna
- 47:55be going no matter what. So then she's like, here, put
- 47:59your finger in this box and a black box appears on the table.
- 48:04So he does, and it immediately locks itself on his finger and
- 48:08he starts to freak out. And then they just encouraged
- 48:11him to be calm. She's like, don't panic, don't
- 48:14fear. Fear is the killer.
- 48:15And he's like, but it hurts. She goes, it's all in your head
- 48:18now. She is gaslighting.
- 48:20A little, but she's also telling the truth because as soon as he
- 48:23calms down the box, let's go, and then he takes some money,
- 48:28it's like, oh, OK, thanks. And he puts it on top of the box
- 48:31and the box and money just vanished.
- 48:32See, that's why I'm thinking like they're like, they're the
- 48:36town, like psychics, like this is their business.
- 48:39Yeah, that's what I was saying too.
- 48:40Yeah, I think that they're psychics, yeah.
- 48:42They just never say. It's just a weird like Mystic
- 48:45grandma. Yeah, Mystic Grandma.
- 48:48OK so Jodie and Reggie are having a porch jam session and
- 48:53Jodie's hat is like perched atop his head in the manner that a
- 48:58hat does not normally fit ones head.
- 49:01I like this because it tells you everything you need to know
- 49:04about these two without saying anything it.
- 49:07Reggie pulls up in his ice cream truck.
- 49:10He sees Jodie out on the front porch just jamming.
- 49:12He's like, hold on, I've got my guitar too.
- 49:15It just goes over there. They just start playing
- 49:17together. This is going to be our nephew
- 49:19someday. Yeah, he put on an entire show
- 49:22for us yesterday. He complete with an impromptu
- 49:26mic stand, some Little Rock star moves laying on the floor,
- 49:31little whispers. That way you became iPhone for
- 49:35the next part of the song. Yeah, I think his is gonna be a
- 49:38little bit more. Yeah, less chill than this right
- 49:41here. This is a jam session.
- 49:42Yeah, that's not a jam session. Yeah, no, but I just, it'll be
- 49:47that same kind of like 5 always ready to pull out the
- 49:51instrument. Yeah, always ready to rock.
- 49:53The nephew in question is not even 3, by the way, just to put
- 49:58that in context for everyone. Yeah.
- 50:00OK, so they jam. That's basically the entirety of
- 50:04the scene here. Cuts back over to the psychics
- 50:07grandkids. She goes to the mansion.
- 50:10Yep. And she opens the door and then
- 50:14she screams. She screams.
- 50:15Yeah, that's basically it. That's it.
- 50:17That's the end of her. That's it.
- 50:18That is the last. We get no resolution on her.
- 50:22So we cut over to Mike, who is now watching Jody pick up a girl
- 50:26at the bar. Dude, OK, look, I get his.
- 50:30I guess he's following his brother.
- 50:32Do none of the other adults around ever go?
- 50:36This kid's kind of a creep. No, I don't think anybody's
- 50:41really paying any attention at all, really.
- 50:44It's it's just wild because he's just like perched at the bar
- 50:47window. Yeah, he is.
- 50:49Yeah. I don't know, maybe it's like so
- 50:50common that like they just don't even recognize it anymore.
- 50:53He like he looks like Zoe when we're late to feed her and she's
- 50:56perched in the front window just staring.
- 50:58But yeah, I think it's just everybody's like it's a normal
- 51:01thing. Like Jodie even like pretends
- 51:02like he doesn't see him all the time.
- 51:03He's like, I know you're there, Mike.
- 51:06So he's getting he's picking up the woman from the bar that.
- 51:10I think the woman is picking him picking him up cuz that woman is
- 51:13actually Angus Scrim. It's the woman from the opening
- 51:16that killed the guy. So they get out of there and
- 51:20they head over to the cemetery. Mike follows.
- 51:22Where I wrote that they get busy getting busy and Mike doesn't
- 51:26look away fast enough. I'm gonna say what?
- 51:29Are you talking about? Like his brother's pants are
- 51:32off. He definitely saw Jody's butt
- 51:34hole. He doesn't look away at all,
- 51:36doesn't he? He watches the entire.
- 51:37That's what I'm saying, He should have looked away.
- 51:40He saw them titties and he said whoa, that was the part that he
- 51:45was focused on. I'm sure he saw the titties, but
- 51:47I'm sure he also saw his brother's balls.
- 51:49But he does run screaming because one of the minions
- 51:54suddenly appeared and Jody is like, oh man, what is up?
- 51:58So he chases him and he goes, MMMM, you got to stop this here,
- 52:10take the keys, drive back to the house, have a couple brews.
- 52:13I will come talk about this after I've gotten off.
- 52:19Yeah, more or less. And Mike's like, OK, cool, but
- 52:21watch out because there's like a little guy out there that Mike
- 52:23Kewing. He's like, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 52:24warbling. I get there.
- 52:25Yeah, yeah, strange warbling. And Mike's like, no, it's just
- 52:28warbling. Yeah, which caption did you get?
- 52:34But when he gets back, the woman's gone, so that ruined his
- 52:36time. Meanwhile, back at home, Mike is
- 52:41dreaming of being in the cemetery and surrounded by the
- 52:44tall boy. That's one of the best shots.
- 52:47It is terrifying, actually. It's really cool because he's
- 52:50he's in there and he's like having a dream.
- 52:51He's in his bed so and it just teleports to his bed being in
- 52:56the cemetery and then a bunch of people reach out from the ground
- 53:00and the tall man is just standing above him.
- 53:02And then the next day he's about town, he's getting his little
- 53:04ice cream cone. He's like, that sure was a weird
- 53:06dream. And he looks over and the tall
- 53:09boy makes eye contact with him. Yeah, this is see this movie.
- 53:14It just like jumps from here to here without without any
- 53:17reasoning it it. It kind of is jarring with how
- 53:21it is. Yeah, because then we cut to
- 53:25Mike working on the car in the garage and he's like hearing
- 53:29sounds and instead of getting out from under the car, he lets
- 53:33the Jack get knocked out for it. And I'm not saying like.
- 53:36Victim when he let the jacket. He was under the car for like 30
- 53:40seconds while they were shuffling around.
- 53:42He could have scooched out. Yeah, I guess, Yeah.
- 53:45Either way, Yeah, the jacket falls out.
- 53:47Yeah, go on. What were you saying?
- 53:49Well, then he sees feet and he hits it with the wrench and it's
- 53:52Jody. No, they said.
- 53:53Here's the thing. I thought you were going to
- 53:55break something down for a say. No, because you said I was
- 53:57victim blaming and I was like, he could have scooched out from
- 53:59under there. Yeah.
- 54:01That's what I was trying. To say yeah, I guess so, yeah.
- 54:04So yeah, it like lands on top of him.
- 54:07It does not kill him. Surprisingly, he's.
- 54:09A tiny boy. Yeah, he's, he's good.
- 54:12Jodi's not concerned enough about this.
- 54:14Yeah, Jodi's like, why did you hit my foot?
- 54:17And Mike's like, why did you let a car fall on me?
- 54:20And I'm like, OK, well, we'll just call it even.
- 54:22Mike puts a knife in like a leg strap, and then his pants are
- 54:27just like a little bit too tight.
- 54:28Like he has to fight to get them over top of the knife.
- 54:31So I feel like it's not going to be good for him in an emergency.
- 54:34It's just like port planning, you know, he goes into the
- 54:38cemetery and then he like, he like climbs over the to get into
- 54:42it and he breaks into the mausoleum and he sees a man meet
- 54:50with the tall man. It's the caretaker, is what he's
- 54:54credited. As okay.
- 54:56Yeah, they don't give any explanation for who this is.
- 54:59No, he's just a guy there. Yeah.
- 55:02And then he is attacked by an orb and so he goes running and
- 55:07then when he's escaped the orb he is attacked by the caretaker
- 55:11and Mike bites him and gets away just in time for the orb to
- 55:15like. Yeah, I guess it's a little
- 55:17prongs that they deploy and then it gets right in his forehead.
- 55:21And honestly, the effect for that was pretty well done.
- 55:25It starts drilling right in his forehead and then boy, I just
- 55:28start shooting at. The other end, it's nasty.
- 55:30Yeah, it's a little cool effect. I like.
- 55:32It then the tallman is chasing after Mike and as he like runs
- 55:37through the door, Mike slams the door and the tallman's fingers
- 55:41get like cut off. He put a knife, He takes his
- 55:45knife. Yeah, handy dandy knife, which
- 55:47actually was good in an emergency situation.
- 55:49And he cuts off the fingers. And then he runs out and is
- 55:55chased by some of the minions. And then sometime in the
- 56:00morning, Jody finds Mike asleep on the stairs with a shotgun.
- 56:03And he's also got, like, a little trinket box that's
- 56:07jiggling. And it's jiggling because it's
- 56:09got the tall man's fingers. Yeah, they're alive.
- 56:14Yeah. Yeah, and my Jody's like, you
- 56:18know what? Yeah.
- 56:21All right. He's like, all right, I believe
- 56:22you. Yeah, he was like that.
- 56:24That is messed up. So let's go to the cops.
- 56:28Except when they are going to do that, the bug, because the
- 56:33finger becomes a bug and it's like a bagel beetle.
- 56:37And it's proportionally similar to the beetles in Animal
- 56:41Crossing. Yeah.
- 56:43So they take like a sack and. Yeah, cuz it like attacks.
- 56:47It attacks Mike and it's like a denim shirt.
- 56:51I think that he like pushes over it and then they shove it into
- 56:55the garbage disposal and you know, they're like out of breath
- 57:00and Reggie pops and he's like, hey, who wants to help me sell
- 57:03some ice cream? Kids are coming out of Sunday
- 57:05school. We're going to be busy.
- 57:07Whoa, what is wrong with you guys?
- 57:09And then the bug flies out of the garbage disposal and
- 57:11Reggie's like, okay, you. Know if I could have made one
- 57:14adjustment to this movie I would like to have like the sitcom
- 57:18applause track play anytime Reggie enters the scene.
- 57:21Like Kramer. Yeah, exactly.
- 57:23Yeah. Everybody's whistling and clap
- 57:24and then stuff like yeah, Reggie, yeah.
- 57:27Yeah, yeah. And, like, they have to, like,
- 57:32pause for a minute and wait for the pause to die down.
- 57:35And he, like, awkwardly picks the scene back up.
- 57:37Yeah. Yeah.
- 57:38So Jody gives Mike a gun and then a safety lesson that I
- 57:42think more people need to understand with guns, that you
- 57:46don't point a gun at somebody unless you intend to shoot them,
- 57:50and you don't shoot somebody unless you intend to kill them.
- 57:53Guns are change your wrists. Like we said, no warning shots.
- 57:59Warning shots are bullshit. They are.
- 58:02Yeah. Both in the fact that, like, if
- 58:06somebody is coming in to do you harm, they're like, ready to do
- 58:09you harm. Also, like a warning shot could
- 58:12so easily hit like a random unassociated person.
- 58:17Yeah. So the point is, he's going to
- 58:19stay home and be armed in case anything happens.
- 58:22Well, that's that's Jodie's plan.
- 58:25Well, yeah. Oh, OK, hold on.
- 58:27Meanwhile, Jodie is going to the the place the building.
- 58:32I was calling it a Funeral Home. The Funeral Home and he's going
- 58:36to go investigate everything himself and check out the things
- 58:38that Mike was telling him. Yeah, he climbs in the same
- 58:41busted window that Mike had busted out for him before, and
- 58:45he immediately gets attacked and he shoots the minion that
- 58:50attacked him and runs out. I can't read this note.
- 58:54He should. That car pulls up with Mike
- 58:56driving. His car pulls up with Mike
- 58:58driving. Yeah, OK.
- 59:00Yeah. So, Mike?
- 59:01Mike pulls up with the car. He he thinks that it might be
- 59:04somebody there that's trying to get him because, you know,
- 59:06obviously Mike wasn't supposed to be there and he took the car.
- 59:09So Mike followed him somehow and got there that fast.
- 59:12So he hops in the car with Mike and they start to drive off.
- 59:15Meanwhile, as they're driving away, they're being chased by a
- 59:17car that has no driver. So in order to deal with that.
- 59:23They crash. Well Jodie gets the shotgun from
- 59:27Mike and he starts shooting at it.
- 59:29He shoots out the ending and then they crash.
- 59:32Yeah, and when they get to the car, they find one of the little
- 59:36minions in the car, and it's got the face of Tommy.
- 59:41It's Tommy. So they're like, oh, shit, OK,
- 59:44well, we need to get this thing. We need to escort it back
- 59:47somewhere. And they're like, oh, let's get
- 59:48Reggie. He's got an ice cream truck.
- 59:51Yeah, it's. Perfect for escorting bodies.
- 59:53Raise the body I do like Reggie's practical like question
- 59:56of like is this going to infect my ice cream looks like a.
- 1:00:00Pause for a second and they're like Nah, like come on, Reggie,
- 1:00:04this thing is like got blue or yellow goop going left and
- 1:00:08right. Every between just call it.
- 1:00:10Call it a little like butterscotch topping, it's fine.
- 1:00:13It's going to be exactly like the ice cream and ice cream man.
- 1:00:15Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:00:17Well, eyeball here and there never hurt anyone.
- 1:00:19No. OK, so then they get back to the
- 1:00:24house. Myrtle's there.
- 1:00:25Hey, Myrtle. Myrtle's there.
- 1:00:28Then they try to figure out, like, what it is that they're
- 1:00:30gonna do. They're just like, this is so
- 1:00:32weird, and who's gonna believe us?
- 1:00:34And Mike is worried about their parents bodies.
- 1:00:38And Jody is not ready to have that conversation.
- 1:00:41He's like, I want Mike to be safe.
- 1:00:43So Reggie, take him to Sally's antique shop.
- 1:00:46Sue is also there. We learned her name after, she
- 1:00:48said. Is that the girl?
- 1:00:52Yeah, there's. The grandma.
- 1:00:54No. OK, whatever.
- 1:00:56She looked a lot like her. I think that Don and Coscarelli
- 1:01:01only hired blonde women. Possibly, yeah.
- 1:01:05That seems to be the case. So yeah, he's gonna, Reggie's
- 1:01:09gonna drop him off at the antique store and come back to
- 1:01:11help Jody tackle at the Tommy situation.
- 1:01:14And while he's at the antique store, he's looking through some
- 1:01:17old photos and he finds a very old photo a la it.
- 1:01:22Yeah, I got it vibes from. This which?
- 1:01:24Means it got this fantasm. You know what?
- 1:01:29And not just further ties our connection cuz after watching
- 1:01:32this, we watched Maximum OverDrive on Friday night.
- 1:01:35Yeah. So Jodie is like back at the
- 1:01:39house, he falls asleep and he also has a dream of the tall man
- 1:01:44like Mike did before. Yeah, and he's like, dreaming
- 1:01:48that he's being attacked. Meanwhile, Mike is freaking out.
- 1:01:51He says he's gotta be taken back.
- 1:01:54And so while they're driving back, Mike and Sally find
- 1:01:58Reggie's truck overturned on the side of the road.
- 1:02:00And the back of it is unlocked. And Tommy's body is gone.
- 1:02:05And Mike is like, we need to, yeah.
- 1:02:07And so is Reggie's. And Mike is like, we need to
- 1:02:09leave now. And then a minion attacks and
- 1:02:12Mike gets thrown out the back of the car.
- 1:02:14Dude, they like reach in, they bust out the back window and
- 1:02:17drag him out of the back. Meanwhile, everybody just
- 1:02:20drives. Off He doesn't get dragged out
- 1:02:22the back, he gets tossed out like Uncle Phil tossing out
- 1:02:26Jeff. DJ Jazzy Jeff.
- 1:02:28Yeah. So yeah, he's just left behind.
- 1:02:32Mike runs back home and makes it back to Jodie and tells him what
- 1:02:36happens. So Jodie's like, all right, I'm
- 1:02:39going to go out there and look for Reggie myself.
- 1:02:41I'm going to. You're not coming with me, Mike.
- 1:02:43So he takes Mike, puts him in his bedroom, grounds him, puts a
- 1:02:47screwdriver in the door. That way he can't get out.
- 1:02:50I wonder how many times he's done this to his old.
- 1:02:52Brother, right, like like you were real quick.
- 1:02:55You knew exactly where to wedge it and Mike is sitting there and
- 1:03:00he's got 1 shotgun shell. He puts a thumbtack in it and
- 1:03:03then tapes it to a hammer. Pro tip, if you're going to lock
- 1:03:07a child in a room against their will, maybe don't leave them
- 1:03:10lots of weapons. Don't give them a shotgun.
- 1:03:12Shell. I also feel like he didn't need
- 1:03:14the shotgun shell because these are very much hollow doors.
- 1:03:17Like he could have just like, burst through it on his own
- 1:03:20anyway. I like the imagination that went
- 1:03:22into it. I do appreciate that.
- 1:03:24Yeah. I'm just saying it could have
- 1:03:25been. Boring.
- 1:03:26Like, oh, I've got this hammer, I'll just bust out.
- 1:03:28No, I'm going to take a shotgun show.
- 1:03:30I'm going to tape it to a hammer.
- 1:03:32I'm going to bust my fucking way out of here.
- 1:03:34You know what? I'm never going to see the
- 1:03:36Darrell Isaacs the Hammer commercials the same way again
- 1:03:38because they could be so much cooler.
- 1:03:40Bang, bang, I'm the hammer. That's that.
- 1:03:44Tune out all this commercial thing.
- 1:03:46That's all I hear all over it again.
- 1:03:49OK, so he is now out. You know, we didn't talk about
- 1:03:55one thing though. When Mike ran home, Jody was
- 1:03:58like what the fuck is wrong with you?
- 1:03:59And Mike just like, grabs his beer and like, chugs it before
- 1:04:02explaining what happened. Yeah, they clearly he's got like
- 1:04:07a you're 13 year old enough to do everything.
- 1:04:09Yeah, he's like, I don't understand childhood
- 1:04:12development. I wasn't supposed to be raising
- 1:04:13you. Really.
- 1:04:14He's. Kind of like he's to him, like
- 1:04:1613 is the new 18. He's like, yeah, kids, 13 now he
- 1:04:19can go out on his own and I'm gonna go be a rock star.
- 1:04:21Yeah, Reggie. With Reggie.
- 1:04:24Yeah, big ass. All right, so Mike is going to
- 1:04:29go out and chase after Jodie, but the tall man's at the front
- 1:04:32door. Yeah, and he just like smashes
- 1:04:34right through that window and then grabs him and cuz we've
- 1:04:38established he's super strong. He just like, tosses him in the
- 1:04:41hearse. He's super strong, but all that
- 1:04:43strength must be in his arms because he is slow.
- 1:04:46He gets, he gets outranned by this little kid.
- 1:04:49Yeah. So anyways, yeah, he's in the
- 1:04:50hearse. And again, nobody checking this
- 1:04:53kid for weaponry, so he takes the gun and shoots out the back
- 1:04:57of the window. And once again flashed through
- 1:05:00the window. Yeah, I've.
- 1:05:01Done this shit before. Yeah, and the car crashes.
- 1:05:03So, Joey. Explodes.
- 1:05:06Yeah, well, he left one of his thumbtack shotgun shells in the
- 1:05:10back. Yeah, he had, like the whole,
- 1:05:11like, band of ammo. Yeah.
- 1:05:14Yeah, Can you imagine this kid teaming up with Kevin McAllister
- 1:05:17and Home Alone? I can't I I would like for that
- 1:05:21to. Happen OK Jody's at the Funeral
- 1:05:25Home and he's being he's trying to look for his parents bodies
- 1:05:28in the caskets and he is attacked by a flying orb.
- 1:05:31Mike arrives and he finds that finds their dad's coffin in the
- 1:05:36middle of the floor. He doesn't see Jody anywhere,
- 1:05:38but he also doesn't see his dad in the coffin, so he's like
- 1:05:41panicking about that. Right when he is like.
- 1:05:45Attacked by another orb, Jodie shoots the orb.
- 1:05:49Reggie, he says he found. Oh, he found Sally and Sue and
- 1:05:57some other women and released them.
- 1:05:59Which must have been the daughter.
- 1:06:01Yeah. I I assume they, I like how he
- 1:06:03just kind of hand waves everything away.
- 1:06:04He's like, yeah, there's this creepy old dude and I I was
- 1:06:07hiding at a casket. Yeah.
- 1:06:08It's like he like was just like describing a wild night.
- 1:06:11Like, oh man, you. Should have been there.
- 1:06:13I was so wasted, man. At one point I was in a casket.
- 1:06:16There were women in a room. I love them out.
- 1:06:18Yeah. Freedom, you know, still dressed
- 1:06:22in my ice cream. Yeah.
- 1:06:24Suit. Still in very white pants.
- 1:06:27How weird is that, right? Yeah.
- 1:06:30So they find a brown, they enter the room and there's a bunch of
- 1:06:33barrels along the wall. And guess what?
- 1:06:34Those barrels have dwarfs. Tiny minions.
- 1:06:37Yeah, so there's these two poles that are just vibrating inside
- 1:06:42the room, too. And it was cool before, because
- 1:06:46when we had that little jam session of Reggie and Jody, we
- 1:06:50saw Reggie bust out his little guitar tuner, which looks
- 1:06:53exactly. Like this?
- 1:06:54Yeah, so he to him, he sees everything as instruments
- 1:06:58apparently. So he's gonna make a move on
- 1:07:01that here in a minute. But meanwhile Mike is curious so
- 1:07:05he like puts his hand in between the two poles and it just
- 1:07:09vanishes. So he decides to peek his head
- 1:07:12in there and what happens as he gets sucked in, starts falling
- 1:07:16and he sees all of the little minion slaves on like a planet.
- 1:07:22Yeah, it's like a different planet or dimension or
- 1:07:24something. Yeah, they're like in Hawaiian,
- 1:07:27and it's not really clear what's going on, but Reggie and Jodi
- 1:07:32reach in and pull him out, and he's come to the conclusion that
- 1:07:35it's slaves. Yeah.
- 1:07:37And that the gravity from the planet is crushing them and
- 1:07:40making them tiny. I thought it was that they had
- 1:07:44to be made to be tiny because the gravity on the planet was so
- 1:07:49high. It could be.
- 1:07:51I thought that that's where they were being turned into.
- 1:07:54See, I thought they were being turned tiny in the barrels.
- 1:07:58I thought that they were just storing the finished product in
- 1:08:01the barrels. I don't fucking know, you're
- 1:08:02probably right. You're sounds like it makes a.
- 1:08:04Lot more sense in mind because I'm picturing that episode of
- 1:08:07Futurama where the episode is called Branigan Begin Again,
- 1:08:12where ZAP works for the Planet Express and they go to the
- 1:08:15planet with the really high gravity and they go like Bender
- 1:08:19gets squished. Yeah, that's what I'm like
- 1:08:22picturing. See, that's what I was thinking
- 1:08:24too. I go, let's take them to there
- 1:08:25and let's get make. Them, yeah, but they just like
- 1:08:26pre squished them so that way they didn't have to worry about
- 1:08:28the squishing. Process.
- 1:08:29You guys are already squished. Don't worry about it.
- 1:08:31Yeah. Don't have to worry about your
- 1:08:32bone, itis. This isn't funny that they like
- 1:08:36keep their normal face, their head, but like their body, their
- 1:08:40torso is what's completely changed.
- 1:08:45See we always see them in robes in like quotes.
- 1:08:48We always see what do you all look like with your clothes off?
- 1:08:52Well, actually never mind. I don't want to see a naked menu
- 1:08:55that. Was a That was a weird question.
- 1:08:58It was a weird sentence that just came out of your mouth.
- 1:09:00Well, this movie started with the tall man fucking his prey
- 1:09:04and then turning old. So yeah, I mean, he's a Black
- 1:09:08Widow. Yeah, I guess that's exactly it.
- 1:09:12All right, so this is where the movie gets kind of weird and
- 1:09:16disjointed again, so. This is where it gets weird and
- 1:09:20disjointed. It gets really weird and
- 1:09:22disjointed right here. So the lights turn out, Jodie
- 1:09:26disappears, Mike disappears, Reggie remains in the room.
- 1:09:31Lights come back on. Reggie sees the poles vibrating
- 1:09:34and he sees them as a guitar tuner.
- 1:09:37So he's like, I'm going to stop the vibration and puts his hands
- 1:09:41on both of them. And then doing that causes some
- 1:09:45kind of like. It makes like the portal open.
- 1:09:48It causes it to like implode. I don't even know.
- 1:09:53I guess it's like it's sucking everything in.
- 1:09:56Yeah. And so it starts to suck him in,
- 1:09:59but he crawls his way out. Well, and that's what like, I
- 1:10:01think the portal was like open with this because of the
- 1:10:04difference in gravity. It was like pulling them in.
- 1:10:09But Reggie is super strong because of all that ice cream
- 1:10:11flinging. Yeah, I can't wait.
- 1:10:13He actually crawled his way out of there because it was like
- 1:10:15giant barrels of dwarves were being just like falling off the
- 1:10:20shelves. Yeah, but the problem is he
- 1:10:23climbs out, runs out of the building and then gets stabbed
- 1:10:26by a tall woman. Yeah, a tall woman man.
- 1:10:31And it's so it's like cutting back and forth, like Jody is
- 1:10:35randomly outside hollering for Mike.
- 1:10:37Mike is randomly outside hollering for Jody.
- 1:10:40Who's hollering for Reggie? Nobody.
- 1:10:43Until they look over there and they see Reggie's been stabbed.
- 1:10:47I'm like, oh shit, Reggie's dead.
- 1:10:49Not nobody shot it for Reggie. Yeah.
- 1:10:52So yeah. And then the Funeral Home goes.
- 1:10:56Yeah, and they like they drive away just in time.
- 1:10:59Yeah. And Jody was like, OK, So what
- 1:11:01we need to do is we need to lure the tall man over to the
- 1:11:04abandoned mines that we've definitely talked about.
- 1:11:06And yeah. You know, the abandoned mines,
- 1:11:08the one that's very the key to this, Yeah.
- 1:11:10Right here. Very important that we've
- 1:11:11referenced many times. Yeah.
- 1:11:13So we're gonna go to the abandoned mines that we
- 1:11:16definitely set up for later, and we're gonna just remove the
- 1:11:20warning signs and that'll surely trick him.
- 1:11:23And that'll get him, then we will show.
- 1:11:27It is so fucking Scooby-doo and the insane thing is that it
- 1:11:30works. It does.
- 1:11:32It does. So yeah, Mike stays behind while
- 1:11:37Jody goes to the mine shaft that we all know and love.
- 1:11:39Yeah, and that we've spent a majority of the movie talking
- 1:11:42about. Yeah, and I guess while he's
- 1:11:47there, the tall man shows back up at the house and chases Mike
- 1:11:51again. So they chase throughout town.
- 1:11:55But it's almost so perfect that I'm like, was this part of the
- 1:11:57plan that we just didn't hear about?
- 1:12:00Apparently, because as he shows up at the maybe, they're like
- 1:12:04talking really loud like that. They saw the tall man like like
- 1:12:07Mike peeking through the window of the bar.
- 1:12:11He's like, all right, So what? We're going to do is.
- 1:12:16Yeah. So yeah, they chased there and
- 1:12:19he runs over a little booby trap that Jody sat, which causes him
- 1:12:25to fall into the ground, which causes a bunch of boulders to
- 1:12:28fall. And if you're if you're
- 1:12:30picturing something, I can to say Scooby-doo or Looney Tunes,
- 1:12:36wherein it is a hole in the ground with a canvas tarp
- 1:12:42explicitly thrown over top of it and a handful of branches to
- 1:12:47camouflage it, yeah, congratulations.
- 1:12:50That is exactly how they hit it. That's exactly how it is.
- 1:12:54And I like it. Like, they seal him and he,
- 1:12:57like, falls in there and like, all the boulders fall on him.
- 1:13:00Mike hooks up at the top of the hill, and Jody just looks up
- 1:13:02there and like, has a triumphant, like, old fist pump.
- 1:13:05And then it's like, all right, everything's OK.
- 1:13:08So then we get back to the house.
- 1:13:09Mike wakes up in a panic because he's like, I'm just so terrified
- 1:13:14that those rocks didn't hold him.
- 1:13:15And he's telling Reggie about it.
- 1:13:17And we're like, but wait, why is Reggie here?
- 1:13:18We saw Reggie died. Why is Reggie here and why is he
- 1:13:21wearing not his ice cream outfit?
- 1:13:24Yeah, right. At this point he is wearing the
- 1:13:26ice cream outfit for so much of the movie that it feels weird to
- 1:13:30not see him in it. That's how you know that this is
- 1:13:32real, man. I'm wearing like casual.
- 1:13:34Yeah, he's like I am in my Pacific Northwest rocker chic.
- 1:13:39Yeah, so basically Reggie's like, hey man, you're just
- 1:13:43having a bad nightmare. You're having a hard time
- 1:13:46processing. Jodie's death and where y'all
- 1:13:50go? I like how like if he knew this,
- 1:13:56I like that he explains it like you're just having a hard time,
- 1:13:59you know, experiencing Jodie's death.
- 1:14:01You know he died in a car crash. Yeah, so we see a flash to his
- 1:14:06grave. So their parents supposedly died
- 1:14:09in 77. He died in 78 in a car crash.
- 1:14:13In two. Years.
- 1:14:14He's lost his entire family and now Reggie is just taking care
- 1:14:18of him in between driving his ice cream truck.
- 1:14:20Yeah, that's not cool. That's not what I was going to
- 1:14:22say. But the really cool thing is, I
- 1:14:25don't know if this is intentional, but I feel like
- 1:14:28something that kind of gives more credit to that being a
- 1:14:31dream is you get a shot of the grave in the tombstones.
- 1:14:36We've been seeing the graveyard and the tombstones of that place
- 1:14:39the entire time, and they're all like the classic tombstones that
- 1:14:41are above ground. All of the tombstones in the
- 1:14:43graveyard of Jodie's are flat, like the little plaques there.
- 1:14:47Yeah. So it seemed like, oh, that was
- 1:14:50all actually in this the entire time.
- 1:14:52Yeah, because they were much more like the archetype of what
- 1:14:55you. Yeah, that's why he would
- 1:14:57imagine. Yeah, just like a normal, like,
- 1:14:59stereotypical gravestone. It's cool.
- 1:15:02It's a nice little touch. But anyways, like, Jody's like,
- 1:15:04Reggie's just like, look, man, I'm going to take care of you.
- 1:15:08I know I'll never be as good as Jody, but I'm going to do my
- 1:15:11best. And you know, how about we just,
- 1:15:13like, we pack up and we hit the road for a few weeks and Mike's
- 1:15:16like, oh, where are we going to go?
- 1:15:17He's like, I don't know, go get your stuff.
- 1:15:20And then he, like, grabs his guitar and starts playing it.
- 1:15:22And Mike's like, OK. And Mike goes up and he grabs
- 1:15:25his little canvas drawstring bag, and when he closes the door
- 1:15:30in his bedroom, he's got a little mirror.
- 1:15:33Yep. And the tall boy is in there.
- 1:15:35And he goes, boy. Yeah.
- 1:15:38And then the minions grab him from the window and pull him out
- 1:15:42of the house, and that's how that goes.
- 1:15:47So if you want to know something, the movie picks up
- 1:15:50immediately right there. And fantastic, too.
- 1:15:52I've seen like the opening 10 to 15 minutes of that movie, so
- 1:15:56yeah. That's.
- 1:15:58So this is all actually real here.
- 1:16:00So we're gonna have questions answered.
- 1:16:02Maybe. Yes.
- 1:16:03OK, that's good to know. I still think this is a very
- 1:16:08silly movie. Yes.
- 1:16:10Yeah. But it's fun.
- 1:16:13I feel like 6.75 is the right one for this.
- 1:16:17I am very excited to explore the rest of the franchise because I
- 1:16:20think this feels like one of those that it's so strange that
- 1:16:23it's either going to get much better or much worse to the
- 1:16:26point that it's like really fun how much worse it is.
- 1:16:28So I'm here for the ride. It seems to have a pretty good
- 1:16:32falling. People seem to really like the
- 1:16:35whole franchise. I think it benefits having the
- 1:16:38core stay throughout the entire duration of the.
- 1:16:42Entire. Series which I think that's
- 1:16:44really cool. I think and those are some of
- 1:16:47the things that we've talked about with like some of the
- 1:16:49strongest franchises on this show is having like that core
- 1:16:53element that sticks with it because you look at like, you
- 1:16:56know, we're covering Child's play right now and we've got so
- 1:16:59many of the same people that stick with it throughout, right?
- 1:17:02Don Mancini is involved in every single one of them.
- 1:17:05When we covered this Saw franchise, it's a lot of the
- 1:17:11same people behind the scenes, like we've got the same editor
- 1:17:13throughout, like the entire thing.
- 1:17:15We've got all the same special effects people throughout most
- 1:17:19of it the. Same composer.
- 1:17:21It's a lot of the same people sometimes, which in different
- 1:17:24roles, but a lot of the core remains the same.
- 1:17:27Same with like the screen movies up until you know, unfortunately
- 1:17:31the death of Wes Craven, which that forced to change in some
- 1:17:35things, but it I think having that consistency helps keep a
- 1:17:41more cohesive vision and storyline.
- 1:17:44I think so too. Yeah.
- 1:17:45I'm gonna keep mine at 7 1/2 also.
- 1:17:47OK, so what's your change? I guess like I really just wanna
- 1:17:53see like I want to, I want to understand more of why he's
- 1:18:00picking certain people and like why they have to be lured
- 1:18:03specifically to the cemetery. Like I get his thing of like I'm
- 1:18:06going to kidnap Mike and take him there because like he's
- 1:18:09meddling and he wants to stop him.
- 1:18:11That makes sense to me without it being spoon fed but like.
- 1:18:14We don't know the process I guess.
- 1:18:16Yeah, like it's just, it's confusing.
- 1:18:19Yeah, that's the only thing that you would change.
- 1:18:22Like that's the biggest thing I would change, OK.
- 1:18:25What would Talia think? Talia was restless throughout
- 1:18:29this whole movie. Talia is somebody that she she
- 1:18:33wants to understand the movie like she doesn't like.
- 1:18:38She doesn't like the dream narrative.
- 1:18:40Talia was the person that was like 5 minutes since this movie
- 1:18:44was like what's happening? I'm confused.
- 1:18:45And then just like makes it a problem for everybody else
- 1:18:47around here because she was just like on her.
- 1:18:51Yeah, the entire time she, she really was like, I even took
- 1:18:55video of it at one point because she just wouldn't stop.
- 1:18:59So she she was not, she was not loving this.
- 1:19:03I think she is unfortunately going to give it a four.
- 1:19:06OK. I think that's fair.
- 1:19:08Yeah, who's who's Zoe's ultimate warrior?
- 1:19:12That's a tough one. I think, hear me out, I think
- 1:19:17it's Reggie. OK.
- 1:19:20He drives an ice cream truck, first of all.
- 1:19:24Second of all, always ready to join a jam session.
- 1:19:27You know, is always all about the music.
- 1:19:28And when we're singing, she comes running, reaches out and
- 1:19:32touches the tuning fork prongs. That's true.
- 1:19:35She's always fucking with shit, sometimes to catastrophic
- 1:19:39results. I like that.
- 1:19:41I was going to say Mike, because Mike is the youngest but is
- 1:19:46still probably the most competent.
- 1:19:49Yeah, of them all. She's the youngest here and I,
- 1:19:52she's the most active when it comes to killing things.
- 1:19:55Yeah, I like the Reggie one better, though.
- 1:19:58I think that's more fitting for her.
- 1:20:00All right, now here's the tricky question for us.
- 1:20:04Who do you relate to? I related a lot to that scene of
- 1:20:11Reggie and Jody when they were just jamming on the front porch,
- 1:20:15because I've done that with friends before.
- 1:20:18You just pull up and you just, like, start playing guitar, OK?
- 1:20:21I don't know which one it would be, though.
- 1:20:24I thought, you know, I'll say Jody, because my guitar teacher
- 1:20:31looked exactly like Reggie. Also, you have the same guitar.
- 1:20:35I do have the same guitar. Yeah, also you wear hats.
- 1:20:39Not that type of hat. Also also you don't have a
- 1:20:42tuning fork. I do have a tuner but.
- 1:20:45You don't have a tuning fork. No dude, that's old school.
- 1:20:48I know. He's going to do that anymore.
- 1:20:50Reggie, which is? Why?
- 1:20:51I think he still does it in the twenty 20s.
- 1:20:53Yes, we'll ask him. He's going to be here in a few
- 1:20:56weeks. Reggie, do you have your tuning
- 1:20:59fork with you always? I would love it if he, like
- 1:21:02whipped it out and was like, yeah.
- 1:21:04I was like, well, you and Jim, yes, fuck yeah, let's do it.
- 1:21:09Who'd you relate to? I guess I probably related to
- 1:21:18the bartender because he's just like sitting there trying to
- 1:21:21mind his own business. Like he's, he's just like, you
- 1:21:26know, the small town. I know everybody's business, but
- 1:21:29I'm not going to. I'm not going to snitch on
- 1:21:30anyone. Like that kid over there, I see
- 1:21:34him, he's peeking in here every single night whenever you're
- 1:21:36here. But that's clearly his brother,
- 1:21:38so he's not doing any harm. He's going through some heavy
- 1:21:42shit. He's 13.
- 1:21:43He's practically an adult. Yeah, if he came in, I'd give
- 1:21:47him a beer. I'm the house.
- 1:21:51Yeah, I like a lot of the main characters.
- 1:21:55I just like. Here's the thing too.
- 1:21:57I've said it before, if I was in a horror movie, I would not do
- 1:22:01well unless I was in a situation where I was like Jigsaw trap.
- 1:22:04You have to react to that type of thing.
- 1:22:06But like if there's if there is something to be investigated,
- 1:22:09I'm staying out of that shit. I don't want to find out the
- 1:22:13scary thing. I want to avoid the scary thing.
- 1:22:16You're just willing to live in that world.
- 1:22:18Yeah, yeah, the world is fucking scary already, man.
- 1:22:22OK, so there's a new level of war.
- 1:22:25Whatever. Same shit, different day.
- 1:22:27I guess it's true. Yeah, OK.
- 1:22:33So on that light note, we can do a tagline or dream sequel.
- 1:22:40Let's do a dream sequel first. Yeah, Talia was correct.
- 1:22:43We should do Dream sequel then tagline.
- 1:22:45Dream sequel I want I want it to be a road movie like a with
- 1:22:55Reggie and Mike. They're on the road.
- 1:22:57Do you always think that they're taking Reggie's personally owned
- 1:23:02vehicle or is it his ice cream truck?
- 1:23:04And like, that's how they're going to make money along the
- 1:23:06way They. Take an ice cream truck.
- 1:23:08Yeah, but they're making a pit stop at the Mortuary where
- 1:23:17Reggie doesn't understand why, but Mike's like, trust me on
- 1:23:20this. And they get Jody's body from
- 1:23:23there and put it in the ice cream truck to preserve it and,
- 1:23:28and. Reggie's like, is this going to
- 1:23:30infect my ice cream? And Mike's like, you've got to
- 1:23:33stop asking that question. And Reggie's like, I've never
- 1:23:35asked this question before. And he's like and another time
- 1:23:38you have. He doesn't say that.
- 1:23:41He just looks up the camera and, like, winks.
- 1:23:46Yeah, but like, he ends up like Jody.
- 1:23:48Jodie becomes alive again inside the ice cream.
- 1:23:50The ice cream brings them back. I don't know.
- 1:23:52Something does. But I wanted to be a road movie
- 1:23:54where Angus, the tall man is just chasing them on the road.
- 1:24:00They're trying to escape him. I'm picturing him like on foot
- 1:24:03though and like his legs are just so like he's just like
- 1:24:06poop. Poop like like 32 or T1000?
- 1:24:11Yeah. Just like or sprinting.
- 1:24:14Yeah. Start action.
- 1:24:17Yeah, yeah. All right.
- 1:24:20OK, now tagline. Balls to the wall.
- 1:24:26They're all having a ball in the afterlife.
- 1:24:33There's no ice cream in hell. I'm out.
- 1:24:41I'm trying to think of something that's not.
- 1:24:43I see my mind got hooked on the ball thing for a minute or two,
- 1:24:46and now I'm trying to get away from that because I thought that
- 1:24:48that was like taking too much energy.
- 1:24:52OK, the ball puns have been done.
- 1:24:55OK, although we can use one of yours there.
- 1:25:00I don't know. This is stupid.
- 1:25:01I'm back on the ball thing. Killer balls for your eyeballs.
- 1:25:08He's tall, he's got balls and he makes house calls.
- 1:25:18He makes house calls. He's tall, got balls, Makes
- 1:25:23house calls. He.
- 1:25:26Rides. Yeah, OK.
- 1:25:31OK. That's, that's good.
- 1:25:33That's as good as we're gonna. Get Yeah, I think we're
- 1:25:37emotionally tapped out at this point.
- 1:25:38I can't handle those. Yeah, good job, Talia.
- 1:25:43That was a good one for me. All right.
- 1:25:46So are we done with that part or are we ready to move on to
- 1:25:50reviews? We are.
- 1:25:51OK, so when it's in on IMDb, it's time.
- 1:25:54Why is this a classic? I finally saw a Phantasm, a film
- 1:25:57that is regarded as a classic. I could not for the life of me
- 1:26:00understand now. Anyone could love this film so
- 1:26:02much. The acting is terrible, the
- 1:26:04story makes no sense at all, and there seems to be a complete and
- 1:26:07total disregard for continuity from start to finish.
- 1:26:11And imagine my disappointment when I were in that the tall
- 1:26:14man, who was the least frightening horror villain ever,
- 1:26:17has just was just making people into dwarves to be slaves on his
- 1:26:21home planet. That's the dumbest thing I've
- 1:26:24ever heard. The special effects are decent,
- 1:26:26and the Chrome sphere drilling into that one guy's forehead was
- 1:26:30the only worthwhile thing in the entire movie.
- 1:26:32Oh my God, we put the fear in sphere.
- 1:26:35Perfect. OK.
- 1:26:41Let's see, where was I? Chromosphere Drilling.
- 1:26:44The chromosphere drilling into that one guy's forehead was the
- 1:26:46only worthwhile thing in the entire movie.
- 1:26:49Michael Baldwin looks like an ugly little girl with a speech
- 1:26:52problem, and everyone around him, especially the character of
- 1:26:55Jody, shows about as much emotion as a rock.
- 1:26:58Yeah, that was kind of. Hard, Really.
- 1:27:00Cruel man. This is an incredibly
- 1:27:02disappointing film. Many reviews on here say that
- 1:27:05once you get past the bad acting, worst script,
- 1:27:07nonsensical parts, lack of scares, lack of continuity like
- 1:27:10a dude, they don't say this. Come on.
- 1:27:13Except for one scene as yellow blood is Harley core, etcetera,
- 1:27:15etcetera. That is that it is a true
- 1:27:17classic. But really, once you get past
- 1:27:19all that, what's left? Dude, you just listed all the
- 1:27:21things you don't like. Nobody has said, dude, nobody's
- 1:27:24ever went into a movie like all right.
- 1:27:25Once you get like bad past all the bad parts and like the parts
- 1:27:29that you hate and like, you know, like the 120 minutes of it
- 1:27:33just not being fun, but like you get that one minute, man.
- 1:27:35And then, Oh my God, it's a classic.
- 1:27:37It feels like the meme of like once I lose weight and clear up
- 1:27:41my skin and get a better word and get my mental health
- 1:27:44together, it's over for you bitches.
- 1:27:45It feels like that, like. I I don't look man, you all saw
- 1:27:49credibility when you started attacking Michael's actor.
- 1:27:51Yeah, that's like fucking rude. Yeah, he's like an actual 13
- 1:27:55year old. Yeah, you started off like I, I
- 1:27:57understood where you were coming from right from the beginning
- 1:27:59there, because it is weirdly disjointed.
- 1:28:01It's it's hard to follow at times.
- 1:28:03It doesn't make a lot of sense. I could see it not being scary
- 1:28:06for some people. But yeah, I just, I think it's,
- 1:28:10you know. Yeah, no, I agree.
- 1:28:12I like, and that's the thing that I find with a lot of the
- 1:28:16reviews where like people don't like movies, they get just kind
- 1:28:20of like make personal attacks. And I think the separate the art
- 1:28:25from the artist has to go both ways.
- 1:28:27Like if you like something that's made by a shitty person,
- 1:28:30like you can acknowledge that their work is good, but also
- 1:28:35like they're maybe not necessarily a good person.
- 1:28:39I think it can go a bunch of different directions too.
- 1:28:42If you don't like something, that doesn't mean that you have
- 1:28:45to hate the person. Yeah, the people involved.
- 1:28:48Yeah, that was just out of nowhere, man.
- 1:28:50Uncalled for. And some people like the
- 1:28:53silliness of it. Like I said, I'm OK with the
- 1:28:56general what the fuckness of it? I want it to make a little bit
- 1:28:59more sense, but I'm OK with it being as odd as it is.
- 1:29:02Yeah, this is a cult classic. It's not like a classic classic.
- 1:29:05Yeah, I don't think this thing has like wide mass appeal, you
- 1:29:09know what I mean? Yeah.
- 1:29:10OK, so over on Instagram, listen to reviews.
- 1:29:15First off, we have Cube saves. Who says one of my favorite
- 1:29:18movies ever. You know, Reggie Fox.
- 1:29:24That might be one of my favorite movies, yeah.
- 1:29:26Dude Reggie totally fucks. He couldn't.
- 1:29:29That's why he was not in the movie half the time.
- 1:29:32Yeah, he was all fucking. Yeah, he probably fucks more
- 1:29:35than the tall. Man, why do you think he's an
- 1:29:37ice cream man? Everybody knows ice cream, man.
- 1:29:41Get it? They get on the rag.
- 1:29:44All right, Next up, Michael Lee Howard says Phantasm is a fun
- 1:29:48ride, Killer warps, the Tall Man, questionable acting, a
- 1:29:51version of Hell, an Ice Cream Man, Fluez, guitar jams, and an
- 1:29:54ending that is so confusing your head spins like the orbs lol. 8
- 1:30:00out of 10. That's essentially is that we
- 1:30:02went out to dinner and one of the servers was just like, So
- 1:30:06what are you guys getting into? And we're like, oh, we're going
- 1:30:08to go watch a scary movie, he said.
- 1:30:09Which one? Travis's Phantasm.
- 1:30:12He's like, what's that about? And they basically Travis said
- 1:30:15Michael, where do I start? Yeah, he basically said
- 1:30:18Michael's review verbatim. Yeah, it's like a kid.
- 1:30:21He, you know, is following his brother.
- 1:30:23He's this tall man that's still in bodies and making a little
- 1:30:26minion. There's orbs, there's an ice
- 1:30:29cream man. Yeah.
- 1:30:31Yeah, like, really like how? How else can you describe this
- 1:30:33movie? That's probably the synopsis.
- 1:30:37OK, Final review we have. Oh wait, no, I think we have two
- 1:30:44reviews actually. All right, Over on Twitter, MC
- 1:30:48Aquila Boobs says. Honestly, this one is just OK
- 1:30:51for me. I'll admit though, nothing's
- 1:30:53scarier than a creepy old man and his balls.
- 1:30:58Very true you. Saw the opportunity and took it.
- 1:31:01I appreciate it. Yeah, that could have been
- 1:31:03another stack line. Yeah, I get it.
- 1:31:06I I can totally get this one not working for people, for all the
- 1:31:10weirdness of it and the just not really cohesiveness of it.
- 1:31:15All right, Final review movie for Movies for Days says yay.
- 1:31:18Well, this one, I've really got affection for the whole
- 1:31:21franchise. But Part 1 is the only one I'd
- 1:31:23recommend to a garden variety horror fan.
- 1:31:26Interesting. You know, if you're a horror
- 1:31:28fan, I'll point you towards this movie generally.
- 1:31:31I think everybody should always check it out.
- 1:31:33I think that's one of those that like, you know, I talk about the
- 1:31:36ones that you can recommend to a more casual horror viewer versus
- 1:31:40like people that are into horror, you know what I mean?
- 1:31:44This feels like one that would be more for people that are into
- 1:31:47horror. Yeah, same.
- 1:31:48Like if you're a horror fan and like you're plugged into that
- 1:31:51whole thing and you're like looking for shit, obviously, you
- 1:31:54know, check out Fantasm, you know, it's a 79 weird ass movie.
- 1:31:59And usually whenever I hear those words, I'm like, oh hell
- 1:32:02yeah. Yeah, that's that's got you
- 1:32:04right from the jump. Yeah, so if you're into that
- 1:32:07shit, check this out. That's what I say.
- 1:32:11OK, all right, that's it. That's it for the reviews.
- 1:32:14So that means that's it for this week's episode.
- 1:32:16And next week we are going on to something new, and this was
- 1:32:19voted by our bubbies over on Patreon.
- 1:32:22Hey by the way, I wanted to say I put on the Patreon that this
- 1:32:25was our Halloween movie because it was originally, but we
- 1:32:28learned that there is another Thursday this month so we had to
- 1:32:31scramble and figure out something else.
- 1:32:32So yeah. And it was not and ever before
- 1:32:36seen. But it was also a hey, Thursday
- 1:32:39falls on actual Halloween, so we took the opportunity to plug in.
- 1:32:43It's too late. Yeah.
- 1:32:44So you all chose the mid month? Yeah, film, which is still new
- 1:32:50to both of us. Yeah.
- 1:32:52And there's a whole night. With the Devil, yeah.
- 1:32:55So that is currently streaming on AMC, Philo, YouTube Prime
- 1:32:59Time, Sling TV, Prime Premium, YouTube TV Premium where you can
- 1:33:04rent it through Google Play and Fandango at home.
- 1:33:06Dude, you didn't even say shutter.
- 1:33:07I'm sorry shutter doesn't come up on Google and I read the
- 1:33:10that's how I get the list. Well, 90% of the things you just
- 1:33:13listed there is if you subscribe to Shutter through those
- 1:33:16services. So this is a Shutter movie and
- 1:33:19on AMC Plus because AMC is Shutter or Shutter is AMC, I
- 1:33:23should say so, yeah. Bring it on Shutter's SEO.
- 1:33:28Yeah, I mean, that's it. So that's where you can watch
- 1:33:31this thing if you don't wanna rinse it.
- 1:33:32Yeah. But yeah, I've heard a lot of
- 1:33:34good things about this. Maybe you had a lot of buzz.
- 1:33:37I'm excited, check it out. Yeah, it's been, it's been on
- 1:33:40our list for a little while and I'm glad we're doing it.
- 1:33:43The same guy at the restaurant that we explained Phantasm to,
- 1:33:47he's like, oh, you all should check out right now with the
- 1:33:49devil. I'm like, oh, we're going to in
- 1:33:50a few weeks, man. As a matter of.
- 1:33:52Fact. He said no, that's weird.
- 1:33:52Why wouldn't you do that today? Except he didn't actually say
- 1:33:54that. But I knew that he was actually
- 1:33:56thinking that to himself. Yeah.
- 1:33:57Michael McMahon, I don't have to tell you the life story.
- 1:33:59Yeah. I don't have to watch it on your
- 1:34:01schedule. And that's how I finished that
- 1:34:04conversation. In my head and he just threw
- 1:34:06down his pen and walked away. Yep.
- 1:34:09OK, so that's it. That's what we're gonna be
- 1:34:10doing. So I guess we will catch you all
- 1:34:13next week on Late Night with the Devil.

- 1:36:12I, you know, it helps a lot. I promise it does.
- 1:36:16Yeah, it makes a big difference if nothing like it makes us
- 1:36:19happy, but it also like gets other people interested in the
- 1:36:21show, OK. So we really appreciate you all
- 1:36:23doing that for us. So Talia's currently eating my
- 1:36:27hand right now. Yeah.
- 1:36:28So I gotta get out of. Here.
- 1:36:29Yeah, we gotta go. All right, we'll see you all
- 1:36:33next week. Until then.
- 1:36:35Bye. Really Cascarelli doing that?
- 1:36:52It's Casco, Really. I know it's Costcarelli but.
