- 0:40Speaker 5: G'day, Mogi, your stallion house life.
- 0:43Speaker 6: Going pretty grousey, you mad dog, you sick son of
- 0:45Speaker 6: a bee. I'm not sure if I'm still hungover or
- 0:48Speaker 6: if I'm coming down with something. Sure. I'm not sure
- 0:50Speaker 6: if there's nothing wrong with me at all.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:52Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 0:53Speaker 5: From the look of you, you look fine.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Have you got a fever? You're looking hot.
- 0:58Speaker 6: I do, actually. I've got a fever, yeah. That's not good.
- 1:01Speaker 6: I've got a high temperature. I feel a bit sick.
- 1:03Speaker 6: A bit woozy. Yeah, I've got a, what do you
- 1:05Speaker 6: call that? Diarrhea.
- 1:08Speaker 5: Oh, you've got diarrhea.
- 1:09Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:10Speaker 5: That's great stuff.
- 1:11Speaker 6: That's great. How are you going, Keezy? You've got diarrhea, man?
- 1:14Speaker 5: I was good.
- 1:15Speaker 6: Everybody's doing it. High five.
- 1:18Speaker 5: Yeah. Touch.
- 1:20Speaker 6: No, I'm going good, fellas. Don't touch your mouth after that.
- 1:22Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Going really good today, fellas. In a good mood. Yesterday
- 1:28Speaker 1: I was still a wee bit tired from the big weekend. Yeah.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Today I'm feeling a lot better.
- 1:31Speaker 5: Good stuff.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Feel bulletproof.
- 1:34Speaker 5: Bulletproof.
- 1:34Speaker 6: That Tony jacket makes him feel bulletproof.
- 1:36Speaker 5: Yeah, it does, doesn't he? Gets all haughty. Puffs his
- 1:39Speaker 5: little chest out.
- 1:41Speaker 6: That's right, I do.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Okay, I'm not bulletproof anymore.
- 1:43Speaker 5: Well done.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Hey, Jase, how are you today?
- 1:45Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm very well, thanks. Kesey can't complain. I mean,
- 1:48Speaker 5: I could, but I'm not going to.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Probably will.
- 1:50Speaker 5: I never complain. Tell you what, I am super hyped
- 1:55Speaker 5: about the show coming up. What's happening on The Big
- 2:01Speaker 5: Show with Old Mogi?
- 2:03Speaker 6: One of the very last opportunities to get yourself in
- 2:05Speaker 6: the draw for Would You Rather, where we offer you
- 2:08Speaker 6: the chance to call us when you hear the cue
- 2:10Speaker 6: to call on 0800 HARAKI and tell us whether you'd
- 2:13Speaker 6: rather go to Bathurst or the grand final, fellas. Coming
- 2:16Speaker 6: up soon, that draw.
- 2:16Speaker 1: It certainly is. We're going to be drawing it.
- 2:19Speaker 6: Fellas? Monday. Monday. Morning. Monday.
- 2:23Speaker 5: On the breakfast show that we'll be doing. Yeah.
- 2:25Speaker 1: We're hosting Reiki on Monday.
- 2:27Speaker 6: Yeah, that's right.
- 2:28Speaker 1: And Thursday, Friday, just FYI.
- 2:29Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And other news, fellas, there's actually a
- 2:33Speaker 6: bit going on. We've got whitebait season coming up. Yeah, man.
- 2:36Speaker 6: Keezy's got some big ideas for our Instagram page. He
- 2:39Speaker 6: wants to make some changes or additions, I should probably say. Yeah, yeah,
- 2:42Speaker 6: that's right. Wait till you get a load of this, man.
- 2:44Speaker 6: People are going to be absolutely frothing all over it. Yeah, man. Also,
- 2:47Speaker 6: coming up next, one of the Big Show members here
- 2:50Speaker 6: had noise control called on them over the weekend. Who
- 2:53Speaker 6: do you reckon it was? 3483, let us know.
- 2:55Speaker 5: In the meantime, here's Soundgarden.
- 2:59Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show, weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 3:03Speaker 5: Snow Patrol there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this
- 3:08Speaker 5: Tuesday afternoon. The time is 13 minutes past 4 o'clock.
- 3:13Speaker 6: Fellas, I had noise control called on me over the weekend.
- 3:18Speaker 5: Wow.
- 3:19Speaker 6: What? At my home, which is meant to be a sanctuary. Right.
- 3:24Speaker 5: Absolutely.
- 3:24Speaker 6: You don't need people coming around banging on your door.
- 3:26Speaker 1: You weren't having a party or anything, were you?
- 3:28Speaker 6: Giving you the old WhatsApp. Well, not really, no. I mean,
- 3:31Speaker 6: we had the Waz on at our office, the Frank office.
- 3:34Speaker 6: We've got a podcasting studio. We've got in there probably
- 3:36Speaker 6: the biggest TV in the world.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:38Speaker 6: Why have we got it? I'm not entirely sure, but
- 3:41Speaker 6: it's good for watching the Waz. So we had about
- 3:42Speaker 6: 20 people in there. You know, things didn't go our way.
- 3:46Speaker 6: A few more beers. Responsibly. Responsibly. And then a few
- 3:50Speaker 6: people came back to our place. And then you just,
- 3:53Speaker 6: before you know it, Jason, you'll know this, Keezy, as well.
- 3:57Speaker 6: You're sitting outside chit-chatting, a few beers.
- 4:00Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:00Speaker 1: A few ciggies.
- 4:02Speaker 6: Oh, yeah. And, you know, we're just sort of, it
- 4:06Speaker 6: was not raucous by any stretch of the imagination. And
- 4:09Speaker 6: then all of a sudden there's a flashing strobe light
- 4:11Speaker 6: down the side of our house. Have a look out
- 4:14Speaker 6: there in there. There's a fella there, he's wearing a
- 4:17Speaker 6: high vis, and he's beckoning anybody to go out there.
- 4:21Speaker 6: So I go out and have a yarn. My wife says,
- 4:24Speaker 6: are you sure you want to go and do it?
- 4:25Speaker 6: Maybe I should go and do it.
- 4:27Speaker 5: Right, okay.
- 4:27Speaker 6: I was like, what's that supposed to mean?
- 4:30Speaker 5: Yeah, nice.
- 4:31Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:31Speaker 6: Because I get a bit, I fire up when I've
- 4:34Speaker 6: got two bears in me, fellas, you know? Sure. Who doesn't? Me.
- 4:40Speaker 6: So anyway, I go out the front there and I
- 4:42Speaker 6: have a chat to this fella there in debt. He's
- 4:45Speaker 6: saying that it's excessive noise and one of the neighbours
- 4:48Speaker 6: has called noise control on us. Now, he is noise control.
- 4:50Speaker 6: He's by himself, which I thought was interesting.
- 4:53Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:53Speaker 6: I thought you'd want to run in twos because when
- 4:55Speaker 6: you're going into this situation, there's a potential there for
- 4:57Speaker 6: people not to be too happy that you're there.
- 4:59Speaker 5: Yes. Out in my old parts, West Auckland, you would
- 5:03Speaker 5: never do it alone.
- 5:04Speaker 6: You'd need to move in a pack.
- 5:05Speaker 5: There would honestly be at least two or three.
- 5:09Speaker 6: Yeah, well, even around my area, which is a bit la-di-da,
- 5:13Speaker 6: I rent. I want to be quite clear about that.
- 5:16Speaker 6: But I imagine they get quite indignant about anybody coming
- 5:19Speaker 6: onto their property and telling them anything about anything.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Yes.
- 5:21Speaker 6: So I was still surprised it was one. So anyway,
- 5:23Speaker 6: I'm chit-chatting with him. He starts filling out a form.
- 5:26Speaker 6: And I say, what's your name, man? He said, we
- 5:28Speaker 6: can't tell you.
- 5:29Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:29Speaker 6: We can't tell you our names. So this is. Right,
- 5:32Speaker 6: not even a first name. Not even a first name.
- 5:34Speaker 6: He's not allowed to give us a name. Yeah, it
- 5:37Speaker 6: was very unfriendly, I thought, and immediately I'd start firing her.
- 5:39Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:43Speaker 6: If I knew your name, you'd be in trouble. Far out.
- 5:45Speaker 6: Lucky he didn't get it. But then they say that
- 5:50Speaker 6: you are not allowed to make any noise for the
- 5:53Speaker 6: next eight days.
- 5:55Speaker 5: Wow.
- 5:56Speaker 6: Or they can come over to your house and fine
- 5:58Speaker 6: you $ 1, 000. I guess if we had the stereo going,
- 6:00Speaker 6: they'd try and steal that. But there was no stereo.
- 6:02Speaker 6: There was no music outside. It was only literally four
- 6:05Speaker 6: people talking. And I said to the fellow, I said, well,
- 6:07Speaker 6: let's just stop chatting here. Let's have a listen to
- 6:09Speaker 6: the conversation. We could hear that my mates were still talking.
- 6:13Speaker 6: And you could just hear a few people talking. Yes.
- 6:15Speaker 6: I said, is that excessive? I said, I get that
- 6:18Speaker 6: it's noise and that it's audible and you can hear it.
- 6:20Speaker 6: But does that automatically make it excessive? Yeah. Yes.
- 6:24Speaker 5: Yes.
- 6:24Speaker 6: It does. Yes, it does.
- 6:26Speaker 5: Don't fire up again.
- 6:27Speaker 6: I was fuming. Jesus, I was starting to fire up now.
- 6:30Speaker 6: I'll tell you what. I was like, mate, if I
- 6:32Speaker 6: knew your name, you'd be in deep trouble. The other
- 6:34Speaker 6: thing that happened was he asked me my address, but
- 6:36Speaker 6: he was standing by the letterbox.
- 6:39Speaker 5: Yeah, it's like, dude.
- 6:40Speaker 6: He goes, well, because the address that I've got here
- 6:43Speaker 6: is not the right address. This is a different address.
- 6:45Speaker 6: Because we just turn up and we listen for the
- 6:47Speaker 6: noise and then we go there. So I think what
- 6:49Speaker 6: he's done is he's written down the address that's on
- 6:51Speaker 6: the form as the address of the people who complained.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Right so he's He's.
- 6:57Speaker 6: Given me the address of the people who complain So
- 6:59Speaker 6: I know who they are But I know where they
- 7:02Speaker 6: live Keezy.
- 7:02Speaker 5: Did you fire up again when you.
- 7:04Speaker 6: Found out He's putting the wrong address on there Anyway
- 7:08Speaker 6: he asked me to sign off on this thing And
- 7:12Speaker 6: I said I couldn't because look at this. I don't
- 7:14Speaker 6: know if you can see that. That's tiny. I said, mate,
- 7:17Speaker 6: I can't see that. I don't know what's written on there.
- 7:19Speaker 6: That's like size 6 font or something. It could be
- 7:21Speaker 6: anything written on there you think I'm going to sign. Anyway,
- 7:23Speaker 6: so he just writes down the bottom in place of
- 7:24Speaker 6: the signature, would not sign.
- 7:27Speaker 5: Great.
- 7:27Speaker 6: And that counts. That means I agree now to what
- 7:30Speaker 6: he's written on there. So anyway, he tootled off and
- 7:35Speaker 6: we didn't hear from him again. But I was just thinking– Oh,
- 7:38Speaker 6: it just makes me so angry.
- 7:40Speaker 5: Yeah, fired up. Can I ask, because I think it's relevant,
- 7:44Speaker 5: what time are we talking here? What time of the day?
- 7:46Speaker 6: Quarter past four in the morning, which is around about
- 7:49Speaker 6: the time people, you know, get up. What?
- 7:53Speaker 1: If the birds are being annoying, sure.
- 7:54Speaker 6: And the birds are annoying, man. Don't get me started
- 7:57Speaker 6: on those effing birds.
- 7:58Speaker 5: You fired him up again.
- 8:00Speaker 1: I didn't do anything.
- 8:01Speaker 6: But I'd like to know from people out there, 3483,
- 8:04Speaker 6: what are your weirdest experiences with noise control? I felt
- 8:07Speaker 6: this was, I mean, I completely understand it. It's talking
- 8:10Speaker 6: at that time of night. There'll be somebody lying in
- 8:11Speaker 6: bed going, Shut up. Oh, God.
- 8:14Speaker 5: Were you doing the mogey full throttle laugh?
- 8:17Speaker 1: And go, douche, douche, douche.
- 8:19Speaker 6: You'd throw out a few bat bars if everyone's on
- 8:22Speaker 6: your case. But yeah, 3483 or 0800 HODAKI, give us
- 8:25Speaker 6: a call. Because I bet there's some shocking experiences out there.
- 8:28Speaker 6: I know that there's one trip where people, if noise
- 8:31Speaker 6: control are going to steal their stereo, they have a
- 8:33Speaker 6: fake stereo ready to go.
- 8:35Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 8:35Speaker 6: To hand over, which is genius.
- 8:36Speaker 5: That's poked.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Every text on 3483 in the drawer for 50 bucks reburied.
- 8:39Speaker 6: Get it in you.
- 8:43Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 8:46Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 8:49Speaker 5: Collective Soul there on the Hauraki Big Show this Tuesday afternoon.
- 8:53Speaker 5: The time is 4.27 and we're talking noise control and
- 8:57Speaker 5: your experiences with it.
- 8:59Speaker 6: That's right.
- 8:59Speaker 1: 3483. If you've had an experience with noise control, come
- 9:02Speaker 1: into your house. Every text in the drawer for 50 bucks.
- 9:05Speaker 6: Oh, Mogi had noise control come over on the weekend,
- 9:08Speaker 6: you know. Meant to be a democratic society. We live
- 9:11Speaker 6: in there, fellas. And a guy can't sit outside hammered
- 9:14Speaker 6: piss with his mates at 4.30 in the morning.
- 9:16Speaker 5: Smoking durries.
- 9:16Speaker 6: Smoking darts and talking heaps of shit.
- 9:18Speaker 5: I mean, what have we come to, man? Seriously, I mean,
- 9:21Speaker 5: what's that ever been? I did have a mate back
- 9:24Speaker 5: in the day, and he had noise control come over.
- 9:28Speaker 5: It was a full, you know, a party in full swing,
- 9:30Speaker 5: to be fair. And he said the fellas that came,
- 9:32Speaker 5: there were two dudes that came over, ended up joining
- 9:34Speaker 5: the party. That's how you want to do it. They
- 9:36Speaker 5: were about to knock off, and they went, ah... Let's
- 9:39Speaker 5: not worry about it.
- 9:40Speaker 1: That's quite good, because if it is the end of
- 9:41Speaker 1: their shift, what time is their shift? I wouldn't know, right?
- 9:44Speaker 5: I had no idea.
- 9:45Speaker 1: Let's say it was 3 a.m.
- 9:46Speaker 6: Yes.
- 9:47Speaker 1: And literally it was the last call, and they went
- 9:49Speaker 1: in and said, hey, guys, can you keep it down?
- 9:50Speaker 1: And everyone's like, oh, I have a few beers. They
- 9:51Speaker 1: turned the stereo down a wee bit.
- 9:52Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly.
- 9:53Speaker 5: That would be awesome, man.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Although, to be honest, most of the time it doesn't happen.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Emma here has text through. She's had noise complaints. called
- 10:00Speaker 1: at 8pm on a Saturday for her laugh. So she's
- 10:03Speaker 1: obviously running a mogi laugh.
- 10:05Speaker 6: I think that might be part of it. It's taken
- 10:07Speaker 6: a long time for me to come to terms with
- 10:08Speaker 6: my laugh, but not everybody has come to terms with it.
- 10:12Speaker 6: Certainly not my neighbours at 4 o'clock in the morning,
- 10:15Speaker 6: which is fair enough. It's got a fair amount of
- 10:17Speaker 6: cut through.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Just she sent in a second text here. She was
- 10:20Speaker 1: watching Talkback.
- 10:22Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, good stuff.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Nah, she didn't text it.
- 10:26Speaker 5: I've had people complain. I haven't had noise control, but
- 10:29Speaker 5: people complain about the noise coming from my house, the lovemaking.
- 10:33Speaker 6: Was it like super loud yawning?
- 10:38Speaker 1: Your wife was away that day.
- 10:42Speaker 5: Let's go to the phone lines.
- 10:43Speaker 6: G'day, Carl.
- 10:44Speaker 5: You're mad bastard. How's life?
- 10:46Speaker 4: Good, thanks.
- 10:47Speaker 3: How about you?
- 10:48Speaker 6: Yeah, good, thanks.
- 10:49Speaker 5: Mate, you've got a bit of a tale for us,
- 10:51Speaker 5: do you?
- 10:52Speaker 3: Yeah, we live out in the country. We're sort of
- 10:55Speaker 3: surrounded by a few lifestylers, and we had a bit
- 10:59Speaker 3: of a barbecue one night, and I don't know, about
- 11:03Speaker 3: 11 or 12 o'clock at night, the old noise control
- 11:07Speaker 3: turned up, and I thought, Jesus, what are they expecting
- 11:09Speaker 3: them out here? But anyway, the stereo was a bit loud,
- 11:12Speaker 3: calm night, everyone could hear it. So we turned it down,
- 11:16Speaker 3: they disappeared, come back an hour later because someone turned
- 11:19Speaker 3: it back up, as you do.
- 11:20Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:20Speaker 3: And then, well, they took it away with them. And then,
- 11:23Speaker 3: so the next morning I thought, oh, well, buggy is
- 11:26Speaker 3: we organised a bit of, a few clay birds and
- 11:29Speaker 3: a few guns and we got a few clay birds
- 11:31Speaker 3: at six o'clock in the morning and did it till lunchtime.
- 11:34Speaker 5: Yeah, backbone.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Good shit, Carl.
- 11:36Speaker 6: As soon as I heard your voice, Carl, I was
- 11:38Speaker 6: thinking to myself, I don't know what the story is,
- 11:40Speaker 6: but I bet it's Carl's fault.
- 11:41Speaker 1: 100%. Carl, you got yourself a 50 bucks reburger, mate.
- 11:45Speaker 5: Well done. All right.
- 11:47Speaker 3: Cheers, guys.
- 11:48Speaker 5: Good on you, mate. Buggers. Buggers, yeah. What did he say?
- 11:52Speaker 6: Buggers. Buggers. Buggers.
- 11:54Speaker 5: Yeah, buggers.
- 11:55Speaker 1: You've never heard that saying before?
- 11:56Speaker 5: Yeah, no, I have. I love it.
- 11:58Speaker 1: A lot of people texting through on 3483. One dude
- 12:01Speaker 1: was leaving a party here. His name is Mike. On
- 12:04Speaker 1: his way out, noise control showed up. He told, they asked,
- 12:07Speaker 1: you know, is there a party going on? He's like, yeah,
- 12:08Speaker 1: but I'm leaving. It's winding down now anyway. Oh, I'll
- 12:10Speaker 1: just drop off the notices. I'll give you a lift
- 12:12Speaker 1: to town. So they dropped off the notices, told them
- 12:14Speaker 1: to shut the party down, and then he got a
- 12:16Speaker 1: lift into town with them.
- 12:17Speaker 4: Yeah, nice.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Which is quite nice.
- 12:19Speaker 5: To be fair, guys, is there a worse job in
- 12:23Speaker 5: the world? I mean, there's some shocking jobs, but it's
- 12:25Speaker 5: a shocking job.
- 12:26Speaker 6: We should run a poll on that at some point,
- 12:28Speaker 6: because that and parking wardens, I would say, would be
- 12:31Speaker 6: top two.
- 12:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 12:33Speaker 1: In terms of being hated, yeah, it would be parking
- 12:36Speaker 1: wardens for me, I think.
- 12:37Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 12:37Speaker 1: To be honest, anyone that stops me, and most of
- 12:39Speaker 1: the time it's for charity, so it sounds terrible, anyone
- 12:41Speaker 1: that stops me on the way into a store... Straight away, fuming.
- 12:44Speaker 5: But it's that thing of, you know.
- 12:47Speaker 1: I hate it.
- 12:50Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:51Speaker 6: Anybody that asks for something, go. Anybody in need.
- 12:53Speaker 5: But the problem with the noise control is that you're
- 12:55Speaker 5: trying to stem something that's in full flow with really
- 13:00Speaker 5: pissed people, generally speaking. And that's a nightmare.
- 13:03Speaker 6: It is. Yeah.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Yeah, that and charity people.
- 13:05Speaker 6: Yeah, charity bastards.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:08Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 13:13Speaker 2: One simple question. One weekend of a lifetime.
- 13:17Speaker 6: Would you rather?
- 13:20Speaker 5: Yeah, and I believe it's the last week for Would
- 13:23Speaker 5: You Rather. So you've got to be in to win, fellas.
- 13:26Speaker 6: Certainly do. Can you make a note of that, Keezy?
- 13:29Speaker 1: Sorry, what's that?
- 13:29Speaker 6: You just write that down. You've got to be in
- 13:32Speaker 6: to win. Is that how you spell win?
- 13:35Speaker 5: W-Y-N.
- 13:37Speaker 6: Oh, man.
- 13:38Speaker 1: It is the final week. We will be drawing this
- 13:41Speaker 1: Monday morning on Breakfast Week. We'll be on breakfast, by
- 13:44Speaker 1: the way.
- 13:45Speaker 5: Oh, yeah, we're doing that, aren't we?
- 13:46Speaker 1: That's right. So Monday morning. So this week is your
- 13:49Speaker 1: final week. You can either go to the NRL Grand
- 13:51Speaker 1: Final or Bathurst. Flights, accommodation, everything taken care of.
- 13:55Speaker 5: Oh, how good, man. Two great prizes. G'day, John, you
- 13:58Speaker 5: mad bastard. How's life?
- 14:00Speaker 4: Good, fellas, good.
- 14:01Speaker 5: Yeah, not bad, mate, not bad. What do you do
- 14:05Speaker 5: for a crust there, John?
- 14:07Speaker 3: Well, today, guys, we'll be at chiropractor.
- 14:10Speaker 5: Oh!
- 14:11Speaker 6: Not bad. Hang on. Really? Is that sort of like
- 14:13Speaker 6: the engineer for bones?
- 14:16Speaker 3: That's the one.
- 14:17Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:18Speaker 6: Good stuff, mate.
- 14:19Speaker 1: You're a fitter and turner, I was going to say.
- 14:22Speaker 1: He wanted us to say backbone as a joke with,
- 14:25Speaker 1: you know?
- 14:26Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:27Speaker 6: Totally.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Totally.
- 14:28Speaker 5: Hey, tell me, John, where are you leaning in terms
- 14:32Speaker 5: of this prize?
- 14:34Speaker 3: Well, guys, as much as I'd really, really, really like
- 14:36Speaker 3: to see the Waz do.
- 14:37Speaker 4: Their thing, the grand final, cut my veins open and
- 14:41Speaker 4: I bleed high.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Up, Dane.
- 14:42Speaker 6: Yeah, nice, mate. Yeah, nice.
- 14:45Speaker 5: And who would you take, John?
- 14:48Speaker 4: To be honest, probably the old man.
- 14:50Speaker 6: Oh, yeah, nice.
- 14:51Speaker 4: That was a bit of V8 himself.
- 14:53Speaker 6: Yeah, nice. What a trip.
- 14:55Speaker 1: That sounds lovely, John. You're in the draw, all right?
- 14:56Speaker 5: You hold the line. Hey, thanks, fellas. Good on you, mate. G'day, Luke,
- 15:00Speaker 5: you mad bastard. How's life?
- 15:02Speaker 4: Oh, mate, it's going really well.
- 15:05Speaker 5: Oh, what's going so well about it?
- 15:08Speaker 3: Well, I'm on the phone with you fellas, so it
- 15:10Speaker 3: can't be that bad, right?
- 15:11Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah. I like your attitude, Luke. It's bloody good
- 15:16Speaker 5: on you, man. Hey, Luke, what do you do for
- 15:18Speaker 5: a crust?
- 15:20Speaker 4: I make the best kombucha in New Zealand. I'm a brewer.
- 15:24Speaker 6: Oh, nice.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Which brand, Luke?
- 15:26Speaker 4: Oh, you've got to know it, mate. Good buzz.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Good buzz. I didn't want to say it just in case,
- 15:30Speaker 1: but they used to sponsor the Steamers.
- 15:32Speaker 6: Oh, really?
- 15:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:33Speaker 6: All right, okay.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Yeah, front jersey sponsors back.
- 15:35Speaker 4: In the day.
- 15:36Speaker 6: How good.
- 15:36Speaker 5: I love a bit of good buzz, Luke.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Good on you, man. Are you thinking NRL Grand Final
- 15:40Speaker 1: or Bathurst, man?
- 15:42Speaker 6: Oh, it was all the way, baby.
- 15:44Speaker 5: Yeah, good on you, mate.
- 15:45Speaker 1: All right, Luke, you're in the draw, man. You hold
- 15:47Speaker 1: the line, all right?
- 15:47Speaker 4: Okay, cheers to that.
- 15:50Speaker 6: Nice fella.
- 15:50Speaker 5: What a lovely fella he was. Yeah, he was really nice.
- 15:53Speaker 5: I mean, nothing against... But it always makes my tummy
- 15:58Speaker 5: a bit funny, kombucha.
- 15:59Speaker 6: Well, it's probably because it's healthy and your stomach wouldn't
- 16:02Speaker 6: be used to anything like that. No, it's not. It's more,
- 16:03Speaker 6: you know, sort of used to cheese balls.
- 16:05Speaker 5: Hot pot.
- 16:06Speaker 6: Hot pot. Exactly right. Yeah, yeah. We used to make
- 16:10Speaker 6: a kombucha when I was living over on the island
- 16:11Speaker 6: there on Waiheke. We used to make a lot of things, actually.
- 16:14Speaker 6: But kombucha was one of them. But you had this
- 16:17Speaker 6: thing in there. A scoby. Yeah, a scoby, which is
- 16:20Speaker 6: also known as the mother kombucha.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Or the bug, like when you have a bread that
- 16:24Speaker 1: you're making.
- 16:24Speaker 5: You keep the bug.
- 16:25Speaker 6: A sourdough, yeah. It's a disgusting, foul bastard of a thing.
- 16:28Speaker 6: And I preferred that we kept it in a sort
- 16:32Speaker 6: of a container that wasn't transparent. I didn't want to
- 16:34Speaker 6: see it.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Yeah, we made that mistake.
- 16:36Speaker 6: Hideous bastard.
- 16:37Speaker 1: My wife had a crack at it once.
- 16:38Speaker 6: Oh, that's right.
- 16:39Speaker 1: And I was just looking at it, and I was like,
- 16:41Speaker 1: I'm not drinking that.
- 16:41Speaker 6: I'm not having it. Yeah. It was good.
- 16:44Speaker 1: I don't want to know how the.
- 16:45Speaker 6: Sausage is made. No, no, no.
- 16:46Speaker 1: I'll just drink it slash eat the sausage.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Sweet.
- 16:49Speaker 6: Yeah, good stuff.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Hey, just quickly, fellas, big shout out to boyschip.co.nz, Sports
- 16:52Speaker 1: Travel Made Easy, the other ones, providing these two amazing packages.
- 16:57Speaker 6: How good, man.
- 16:58Speaker 5: In the meantime... Just chill out, relax, turn up the volume.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Yeah, chill out to the song.
- 17:05Speaker 5: Have a bit of Metallica in your system.
- 17:08Speaker 2: The Hodaki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hodaki.
- 17:12Speaker 5: Sunday, bloody Sunday. You too there on the Radio Hodaki
- 17:15Speaker 5: Big Show. This Tuesday afternoon, the time is 4.56. Plenty
- 17:19Speaker 5: coming up after 5 o'clock.
- 17:20Speaker 6: Yes.
- 17:21Speaker 5: Old Moogie and I are pretty fizzed about this, the
- 17:23Speaker 5: start of whitebaiting season, September to October, and we're fired
- 17:28Speaker 5: up for it, I can tell you, fellas. Also, we've
- 17:31Speaker 5: got a couple of tickets to give away for the
- 17:33Speaker 5: band Empire of the Sun.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Yeah, Empire of the Sun.
- 17:36Speaker 6: Empire of the Sun.
- 17:37Speaker 5: Empire of the Sun.
- 17:39Speaker 6: Great band.
- 17:39Speaker 1: More information on their live gigs that are coming to
- 17:42Speaker 1: New Zealand. As we've said, we've got some double passes
- 17:45Speaker 1: to give away. They came out just after MGMT. They're
- 17:48Speaker 1: sort of a similar setup, aren't they? And funnily enough,
- 17:51Speaker 1: because they're known to their fans, because it's Empire of
- 17:53Speaker 1: the Sun, they're known to their fans as EOTs.
- 17:56Speaker 5: Really? EOTs.
- 17:57Speaker 1: That's because MGMT are known as management.
- 17:59Speaker 6: Yeah, that's right.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Yeah, this is interesting stuff. But for some reason, I
- 18:03Speaker 1: just remember them having some of the weirdest video clips.
- 18:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 18:06Speaker 1: And being like, man, these guys are crazy.
- 18:07Speaker 6: Yeah, that's right. But their tunes are so good. They've
- 18:09Speaker 6: got some bangers.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Their first album, I've got it.
- 18:11Speaker 5: Have you?
- 18:11Speaker 6: It goes off, man. Wow.
- 18:14Speaker 5: Funny you never use it for your trouble or anything
- 18:16Speaker 5: like that or if you never brought.
- 18:18Speaker 6: It up before or been.
- 18:20Speaker 5: To any of their gigs or anything.
- 18:24Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Coming up after five.
- 18:31Speaker 5: Welcome back, you massive backbones. Hope your Tuesday's going off.
- 18:38Speaker 5: You're listening to The Big Show, by the way, brought
- 18:41Speaker 5: to you by Reburger.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Crave-worthy street food freshly made with Reburger.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum.
- 18:47Speaker 5: Now, I just want to say to the people out there,
- 18:50Speaker 5: there might be someone, for example, sitting in their car
- 18:52Speaker 5: right now going, oh, bugger, I missed the first hour
- 18:56Speaker 5: of the show.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:57Speaker 5: Do not fear. Do not fear, my friends, because I
- 19:01Speaker 5: can tell you that old Pugsan is beavering away in
- 19:04Speaker 5: Studio B, getting the whole show put together in a
- 19:07Speaker 5: podcast form. So if you miss any of the show,
- 19:10Speaker 5: you can catch it later on. Having said that, our
- 19:14Speaker 5: preference is that you tune in live.
- 19:16Speaker 6: Or on the podcast. Or you listen to the podcast.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Or not at all.
- 19:21Speaker 6: Oh, that's the other option.
- 19:22Speaker 5: You could do that.
- 19:23Speaker 6: That's third, but that's still a podium finish.
- 19:25Speaker 5: Yeah, it'd be more of a bronze type scenario.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Hundy P, fellas. Hey, huge hour coming up. Whitebait chat.
- 19:32Speaker 5: I'm fizzing, man.
- 19:34Speaker 6: You still got the sting, Pugs? I hope so. He'll
- 19:37Speaker 6: find it. There's no way he'd lose that.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Ah, the whitebait chat sting. Oh, that's an all-timer.
- 19:43Speaker 6: Far out.
- 19:44Speaker 1: Also, as we mentioned, tickets to Empire of the Sun
- 19:46Speaker 1: who are coming to New Zealand. Details on that later on.
- 19:48Speaker 1: And fellas, I've got a proposal for the big show
- 19:50Speaker 1: and our social media plan moving forward.
- 19:53Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, good. I've also got a proposal later on,
- 19:57Speaker 5: probably not this hour. It's more of a six o'clock
- 19:59Speaker 5: hour proposal.
- 20:00Speaker 6: It's coming too early.
- 20:02Speaker 5: For the big show as well.
- 20:03Speaker 6: That'll keep people listening. Yeah, totes, man, it should. It's
- 20:06Speaker 6: not going to be.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Overlapping with what's on the dinner after six, is it?
- 20:10Speaker 6: Could be, actually.
- 20:10Speaker 5: Here's Cage the Elephant.
- 20:12Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from four on Radio Hauraki.
- 20:16Speaker 5: Yes, indeed. Alison Chains here on the Radio Hauraki Big
- 20:20Speaker 5: Show this Tuesday afternoon. The time is 5.13. Don't know
- 20:24Speaker 5: about you, Mogi. Love this time of year, my friend.
- 20:27Speaker 5: I am fizzed up.
- 20:29Speaker 1: What for?
- 20:30Speaker 5: Whitebaiting season, baby. It's back.
- 20:33Speaker 6: You'll know this, Kizzy, but whitebait season... It's part of
- 20:37Speaker 6: what makes being a New Zealander great. Can I say that?
- 20:40Speaker 5: You can say that.
- 20:41Speaker 6: Starts on the 1st of September each year, finishes at
- 20:44Speaker 6: the end of October there. Yeah, look, it's one of
- 20:48Speaker 6: the great bonding periods that I used to have with
- 20:51Speaker 6: my old man.
- 20:52Speaker 5: Oh, you're right.
- 20:52Speaker 6: Yeah. So I've got a lot of memories there, and
- 20:55Speaker 6: I think a lot of people do. Yeah. A lot
- 20:57Speaker 6: of city folk, of course, won't have any experience of
- 20:59Speaker 6: it at all. Yeah.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Well, I suppose the thing with whitebait now, though, is
- 21:02Speaker 1: that it's starting to– it's in decline.
- 21:04Speaker 6: Isn't it? It is in decline, Keezer. That's right.
- 21:06Speaker 5: I mean, well, you know, we all love a bit
- 21:08Speaker 5: of whitebait, don't we, fellas? I know. And like Mogi,
- 21:12Speaker 5: it was part of my childhood, part of my upbringing,
- 21:16Speaker 5: when I was a little whippersnapper.
- 21:18Speaker 6: That's another name. Of course, that's another name.
- 21:21Speaker 5: It's fish, yeah.
- 21:21Speaker 6: Why not for fish? For whitebait.
- 21:23Speaker 5: For whitebait.
- 21:24Speaker 6: In England, they call them whippersnappers. Whippersnappers.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Is that true? Yes.
- 21:27Speaker 6: That's true, yeah.
- 21:27Speaker 5: Yeah, toads.
- 21:28Speaker 6: We call them whitebait.
- 21:30Speaker 5: But, Keezy, you touched on a very important point, and
- 21:33Speaker 5: that is the declining numbers.
- 21:36Speaker 6: That's right.
- 21:37Speaker 5: And it's a really big issue, one that concerns me deeply.
- 21:39Speaker 6: Yeah, and the whitebait stocks have been under pressure for
- 21:42Speaker 6: a while. They actually changed some of the rules in
- 21:43Speaker 6: 2021 because– there's always a concern about overfishing.
- 21:48Speaker 5: Yes.
- 21:48Speaker 6: People get too keen. They love their whitebait too much.
- 21:50Speaker 6: And if you don't put the rules in place, Keezy,
- 21:52Speaker 6: people get a bit carried away and then you run
- 21:54Speaker 6: out of fish before you know it. So DOC has
- 21:56Speaker 6: actually come in this year and they've introduced further conservation-minded
- 22:00Speaker 6: fishing methods just to kind of restrict it because you
- 22:04Speaker 6: sort of find people were catching them by the pounds
- 22:07Speaker 6: and the tens of pounds and the dozens of pounds.
- 22:09Speaker 5: It was terrible.
- 22:09Speaker 6: It's a bit much and you find people sort of
- 22:11Speaker 6: freezing them forever or giving it away. I mean, I
- 22:14Speaker 6: remember when we used to start out, Jason, for us
- 22:17Speaker 6: it was the thrill of the catch. Right, it was
- 22:19Speaker 6: quite exciting. So you just catch, you know, like 50
- 22:22Speaker 6: pound of whitebait and then you just sort of, well,
- 22:24Speaker 6: that's the fun part, and then you just leave them
- 22:25Speaker 6: to sort of rot on the side of the river.
- 22:27Speaker 5: Yeah, the old bird's pecking away.
- 22:30Speaker 6: That's right.
- 22:30Speaker 1: So that was your favourite part. Right, okay.
- 22:32Speaker 6: It was just catching them because they're hard to drag in.
- 22:34Speaker 6: It was the thrill of the catch.
- 22:34Speaker 5: It was the thrill of it.
- 22:35Speaker 1: But there's no thrill, right?
- 22:36Speaker 5: The adrenaline of it all.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Aren't they just babies? You know, they're just little baby fish.
- 22:40Speaker 6: But when you get them moving in a group together,
- 22:42Speaker 6: there's pounds of them, 50 pounds of the bastards all
- 22:45Speaker 6: swimming this way and that. It's not easy.
- 22:46Speaker 5: In a swift current.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Right, okay, in a creek or something, yeah.
- 22:50Speaker 6: So they've changed the rules now, though, because you just
- 22:52Speaker 6: use any kind of a net. You could use a
- 22:54Speaker 6: drift net, anything you wanted. Yeah. You could use, a
- 22:56Speaker 6: mate of mine used to use a school bag.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Right.
- 22:58Speaker 6: A school bag. Yes. When they were running hard. Now
- 23:01Speaker 6: they've pulled it back a bit. So according to the
- 23:04Speaker 6: DOC's new regulation, you allow gill nets. A gill net.
- 23:08Speaker 6: A gill net. A gill net. So traditionally it's something
- 23:11Speaker 6: where the fish will swim in. Their head being the
- 23:14Speaker 6: biggest part of the body gets stuck.
- 23:15Speaker 5: Yeah. Then they try and back out and they get
- 23:17Speaker 5: caught on the gills. Yeah, they can't back out. They
- 23:20Speaker 5: can't go backwards, fish, Keezy. I don't know if you
- 23:22Speaker 5: know that.
- 23:23Speaker 6: Have you ever seen a fish go backwards? No, I haven't.
- 23:25Speaker 5: That's why.
- 23:26Speaker 6: Yeah. Spear fishing. Spear fishing. Yeah.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Oh, you can spear fish them?
- 23:30Speaker 6: Yeah, you're allowed to spear fish them. Rod and reel. Yes.
- 23:33Speaker 6: Fly fishing is another one that they're allowing as well. Right, okay.
- 23:36Speaker 6: And it just means they're going to be able to
- 23:38Speaker 6: bring in down the number. You still get the thrill
- 23:40Speaker 6: of the catch. Yes. But you can't bring in the
- 23:43Speaker 6: kind of numbers.
- 23:44Speaker 5: You can also long line. Yes. One hook, one fish. Right, okay.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Farah, it'd be a lot of effort with all these
- 23:50Speaker 1: methods to get even enough for like a fritter.
- 23:53Speaker 5: Actually, in terms of the numbers there, Moggy, because I'm
- 23:56Speaker 5: a little bit hazy on that, what are the restrictions
- 23:59Speaker 5: in terms of the catch?
- 24:00Speaker 6: Oh, the most in a day?
- 24:01Speaker 5: Yeah, in ones.
- 24:03Speaker 6: 12.
- 24:03Speaker 5: Oh, yeah.
- 24:04Speaker 6: 12 pounds.
- 24:05Speaker 5: Yeah, that makes sense.
- 24:06Speaker 4: No, 12.
- 24:06Speaker 6: 12 white bait a day per person.
- 24:08Speaker 5: That's a good day.
- 24:09Speaker 6: Yeah. So if you've got a couple of them, if
- 24:10Speaker 6: it's you and your missus out there, that's 24. That's
- 24:12Speaker 6: enough for a frit.
- 24:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 24:15Speaker 6: A small frit. A couple of extra eggs.
- 24:18Speaker 5: Yeah, a couple of more eggs. Beef it out with
- 24:20Speaker 5: a bit more flour.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Right, far out.
- 24:22Speaker 5: Maybe some parsley.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Right, you know, okay. Well, that's what, to be honest,
- 24:26Speaker 1: this is what I don't understand is what do people
- 24:28Speaker 1: actually use whitebait for? Because the only place I've seen
- 24:30Speaker 1: it is in fritters.
- 24:32Speaker 6: You can do whitebait in a million different ways, yeah. Really?
- 24:34Speaker 6: That's the beauty of the fish is there's a billion
- 24:36Speaker 6: ways you can serve them up. Each more delicious than
- 24:40Speaker 6: the other.
- 24:40Speaker 4: Yes.
- 24:41Speaker 5: Well, like we have... That's of no real importance to
- 24:44Speaker 5: me because we used to leave them rotting on the bank. But, yeah,
- 24:48Speaker 5: I mean, if you've got any ideas for how to
- 24:50Speaker 5: cook whitebait, because I tell you what, it's a very
- 24:53Speaker 5: controversial discussion point. There's all sorts of different techniques. Text
- 24:58Speaker 5: us 3483 and let us know how you do it.
- 25:01Speaker 5: You go on the draw to win yourself a $ 50 rebig, yeah.
- 25:05Speaker 6: Voucher. Voucher. Let's push.
- 25:10Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 25:13Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 25:15Speaker 5: Liam Gallagher there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this
- 25:19Speaker 5: Tuesday evening. The time is 5.26. We're talking whitebaiting season
- 25:24Speaker 5: and the best recipes for cooking your whitebait. Whitebait chat
- 25:30Speaker 5: with the fellas.
- 25:42Speaker 1: That's right, he found the sting. I remember the sting.
- 25:45Speaker 6: He's still playing, Keezy.
- 25:53Speaker 5: Good work, Pugs. It's great stuff.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Digging that sting out of the archive.
- 25:56Speaker 5: Yeah, man.
- 25:57Speaker 1: A lot of texts coming in, 3483fellas, of course. People
- 25:59Speaker 1: are very passionate about their whitebait.
- 26:00Speaker 5: Yeah, they are. I think it's fair to say that
- 26:04Speaker 5: your general idea with the old whitebait You have your whitebait,
- 26:10Speaker 5: an egg, a bit of cracked pepper, a little bit
- 26:12Speaker 5: of salt, fry it up, put it between two bits
- 26:16Speaker 5: of fresh white bread and heaps of butter.
- 26:18Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Yeah, this one here from Tony, for example, whitebait fritter,
- 26:22Speaker 1: grated spuds, fish stock, poppy seeds, flour and egg.
- 26:26Speaker 6: No, how good is a poppy seed with a whitebait?
- 26:29Speaker 1: If you have it without poppy seeds, you're an idiot.
- 26:32Speaker 6: I've had it before as well. This is a South
- 26:34Speaker 6: Island specialty. They're mad for this. Exactly as you describe
- 26:37Speaker 6: it there, Jase, but just on top of that butter
- 26:40Speaker 6: there on the bread... Yes. A thick spread of marmalade.
- 26:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 26:45Speaker 6: Oh, really? A marmalade or a mite. So either a
- 26:48Speaker 6: veggie or a mar.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Very different.
- 26:50Speaker 6: Yeah, very different. Wait, wait, wait.
- 26:52Speaker 1: So marmalade the jam or marmite?
- 26:54Speaker 6: Marmite or veggie mite.
- 26:56Speaker 5: Oh, not marmalade.
- 26:56Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:57Speaker 5: Or marmalade.
- 26:58Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:58Speaker 5: On that front, actually, Mogi, you just reminded me, I
- 27:01Speaker 5: think probably one of the more unusual times I had
- 27:03Speaker 5: whitebait was that as well. Two pieces of white bread.
- 27:07Speaker 6: Yes.
- 27:07Speaker 5: Your whitebait fritter cooked as... previously suggested, but with like
- 27:13Speaker 5: hundreds and thousands.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Yes.
- 27:15Speaker 5: You know your fairy bread?
- 27:16Speaker 6: Yeah, it makes it seem like a celebration, which it is.
- 27:19Speaker 5: Makes it crunchy.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Yes. Oh, that's such a good point.
- 27:25Speaker 6: White Bay.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Ah, this is good fellas from Steve. He fillets them.
- 27:30Speaker 6: Yes.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Rolls them in breadcrumbs and then fry them in duck fat.
- 27:33Speaker 6: Yeah, duck fat. Duck fat's the one.
- 27:35Speaker 1: You need the fat from a duck, eh? Yeah.
- 27:37Speaker 5: Oh, it's got to be a duck.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 27:38Speaker 5: You don't want to go a goose fat.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Ooh.
- 27:41Speaker 6: How about this one?
- 27:42Speaker 1: G'day fellas, this is from Connor. He cuts the heads off,
- 27:47Speaker 1: fillets them, and then puts them all in the smoker.
- 27:49Speaker 6: Yeah, the smoker. Smoke whitebait.
- 27:51Speaker 5: I personally think the head's the best part.
- 27:53Speaker 6: Really? Oh yeah, you love the head.
- 27:55Speaker 1: Well, because what you can do with the heads is
- 27:56Speaker 1: you can cut them all off.
- 27:57Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 28:00Speaker 1: And then you can make a stock with all the heads. Yes.
- 28:04Speaker 6: Yes. Guy here just getting back to how you catch,
- 28:10Speaker 6: best to catch whitebait with the new dock rules that
- 28:12Speaker 6: have come in. This fella here on 3483, I often
- 28:17Speaker 6: squat in the river with my mouth open. Yeah, nice.
- 28:20Speaker 1: Oh, that's good.
- 28:21Speaker 5: Sashimi whitebait.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Fresh out the stream. Yeah.
- 28:26Speaker 6: Yeah. It's delicious.
- 28:29Speaker 1: G'day there, fellas. I'll bake them with butter, wrap them
- 28:32Speaker 1: in tinfoil, about 22 of foil, 25 if you're in
- 28:35Speaker 1: the South Island.
- 28:36Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Someone's texted through here saying they make whitebait soup.
- 28:45Speaker 5: Yes.
- 28:46Speaker 6: Oh, how good. Absolutely, yeah. Lovely.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Yeah, like a chowder, I guess.
- 28:51Speaker 6: There's about eight or nine whitebait in there. Yes.
- 28:53Speaker 1: For one soup.
- 28:53Speaker 6: A little bit of lemon zest, a little bit of
- 28:56Speaker 6: cracked pepper.
- 28:57Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 28:58Speaker 6: What kind of a stock? A fish stock, I guess
- 28:59Speaker 6: you'd go with there?
- 29:00Speaker 5: Well, I'd go beef.
- 29:02Speaker 6: What were the....
- 29:06Speaker 1: Another text here, fellas. G'day there. I love making stir
- 29:10Speaker 1: fry with whitebait.
- 29:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Like a teriyaki.
- 29:14Speaker 6: Seven or eight whitebait. Yes. A little bit of broccoli, carrot.
- 29:18Speaker 6: Bit of mushy. Bit of mushrooms in there as well.
- 29:20Speaker 6: Some garlic, some red onion. Rice. Soy sauce. Rice.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Rice. G'day there, fellas. My wife makes an amazing whitebait smoothie.
- 29:34Speaker 6: Oh, God, there's nothing better than a whitebait smoothie. Yeah.
- 29:38Speaker 6: About eight billion whitebait. Yeah. Just a little bit of water.
- 29:41Speaker 5: Yeah, just shake them up.
- 29:43Speaker 1: A little bit like a bit of yoghurt or something
- 29:44Speaker 1: in there.
- 29:45Speaker 6: Yoghurt? Yoghurt?
- 29:54Speaker 2: The Hodaki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 29:57Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaki.
- 29:59Speaker 5: Green day there on the Radio Hodaki Big Show this
- 30:03Speaker 5: Tuesday evening. The time is 5.39. Now, fellas, are you
- 30:08Speaker 5: fans of Empire of the Sun?
- 30:10Speaker 1: I'm a huge fan of Empire of the Sun. If
- 30:12Speaker 1: you aren't familiar, here's a couple of their tunes.
- 30:15Speaker 6: Always running for.
- 30:16Speaker 5: The thrill of it, thrill of it.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Always pushing up the hill, searching for the sun. If
- 30:34Speaker 1: you'd like to see that live without the screeching on
- 30:39Speaker 1: top of it, give us a call now on 0800
- 30:41Speaker 1: Hauraki because for the first time ever, they are having
- 30:44Speaker 1: their own headline show here in New Zealand. It's happening
- 30:47Speaker 1: at Spark Arena, Auckland, February next year, 19th of Feb.
- 30:51Speaker 5: Yeah, how good?
- 30:52Speaker 1: They've come, you know, part of various festivals and things
- 30:55Speaker 1: over the years. I've been at Rhythm and Vines, Electric Ave,
- 30:57Speaker 1: a few other places like that. However, it's the first
- 31:00Speaker 1: headline show. If you know anything about Empire of the Sun,
- 31:03Speaker 1: they are very into crazy costumes and dress-ups and it's,
- 31:08Speaker 1: I love watching their music videos because they're so out there.
- 31:10Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:10Speaker 1: And I can imagine a live headline show with them
- 31:13Speaker 1: would be a visual spectacular.
- 31:15Speaker 5: I'm going to go to that.
- 31:16Speaker 6: Really?
- 31:16Speaker 5: Yeah, mark me down, fellas. No, 100%. Really? I like
- 31:20Speaker 5: their tunes. The costumes I can give or take, to
- 31:22Speaker 5: be honest.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Was that because they're influenced from?
- 31:26Speaker 6: What?
- 31:27Speaker 5: Drips from your eyes.
- 31:29Speaker 6: There's a tune as well. Yeah, yeah.
- 31:32Speaker 5: We are the people who rule the world.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Great summer music, man.
- 31:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I was going to say it's the sort of
- 31:39Speaker 5: music where you have a bit of a dance going on.
- 31:42Speaker 5: You know, you get your hips moving.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Actually, great road trip music, Empire of the Sun.
- 31:49Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 31:49Speaker 6: Or winter. Really good in winter or staying home music.
- 31:53Speaker 5: I always find them very autumnal. Really? Yes.
- 31:57Speaker 1: If you're keen for tickets, they release noon this Friday,
- 32:00Speaker 1: September 18th via Ticketmaster.co.nz. The tour is thanks to Frontier
- 32:05Speaker 1: Touring as well as the Ask That God Afterlife Tour.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Should we go to the lines there, fellas?
- 32:10Speaker 5: Yeah, let's do it, mate. G'day, Tom, you mad bastard.
- 32:12Speaker 5: How's life?
- 32:13Speaker 4: Yeah, good, brother.
- 32:14Speaker 5: How are you? Yeah, good, thanks. Mate, you're a bit
- 32:17Speaker 5: of a fan, are you?
- 32:19Speaker 4: Oh, absolutely, mate.
- 32:20Speaker 5: Yeah, nice, nice.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Tom, it says you're from Kaiapoi here, man. Would you
- 32:23Speaker 1: fly up for the gig?
- 32:25Speaker 4: Oh, absolutely we would, man. We do trips up to
- 32:27Speaker 4: Auckland all the time.
- 32:27Speaker 6: Oh, you love it. Oh, rich guys.
- 32:29Speaker 4: I don't know about that, but I'm a gig man.
- 32:32Speaker 6: Yeah, giggity, giggity. Yeah, nice.
- 32:34Speaker 5: Tell me, Tom, what do you do for a crust?
- 32:36Speaker 4: Oh, I'm a builder, mate.
- 32:37Speaker 6: Oh, yeah, back then.
- 32:38Speaker 5: And tell me, who would you take with you?
- 32:41Speaker 4: I've got one of my good mates, Charlie, that I
- 32:42Speaker 4: always gig with, so he's always grabbing tickets and then
- 32:45Speaker 4: fixing back and we sort of post part, man. Is
- 32:47Speaker 4: there anything better, Tom, than having Charlie with you at
- 32:49Speaker 4: a gig? Nah, probably not, mate. Other than my other mate, Del,
- 32:56Speaker 4: there's about three of us that always go, so if
- 32:58Speaker 4: I'm only getting two tickets, mate, he'll have to be
- 33:00Speaker 4: grabbing a ticket as well.
- 33:01Speaker 6: Yeah, mate. A bit of Charlie and a bit of Dilly.
- 33:02Speaker 5: Well, mate, a big boys weekend of it, why don't you?
- 33:06Speaker 5: You know what I'm saying?
- 33:08Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 33:09Speaker 1: Sounds great, Tom. Tell you what, mate, that double pass
- 33:11Speaker 1: is all yours, all right?
- 33:12Speaker 4: Oh, you're the absolute ruffers.
- 33:14Speaker 6: No worries, mate.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Maybe don't tell anyone that you're going with Charlie, just
- 33:16Speaker 1: a hot tip. You hold the line, Pugs will look after.
- 33:18Speaker 6: You, all right?
- 33:20Speaker 4: Cheers, man. Thanks very much.
- 33:21Speaker 5: Good on you. Tell you what.
- 33:22Speaker 6: Yeah, would you?
- 33:23Speaker 5: He seemed genuinely stoked with that.
- 33:25Speaker 6: He was. He was really happy.
- 33:26Speaker 5: And I actually, because I'll be honest with you, fellas,
- 33:29Speaker 5: I don't always believe the callers.
- 33:31Speaker 6: I'll be honest with you. I don't always believe them either.
- 33:34Speaker 5: But I believe Tom. I believe he's the sort of
- 33:36Speaker 5: guy that goes to gigs all the time. He gave
- 33:39Speaker 5: me that vibe.
- 33:40Speaker 1: See, now, for example, you saying you're going to go
- 33:42Speaker 1: to that gig, I don't believe.
- 33:43Speaker 6: No, I don't believe that at all. Yeah. Yeah. But
- 33:45Speaker 6: it's also like how you travel anywhere for gigs, he's
- 33:48Speaker 6: always coming up to Auckland. Because oftentimes when you live
- 33:49Speaker 6: out of Auckland, and you forget now that I've been
- 33:51Speaker 6: here for a while, but you're furious that bands only
- 33:54Speaker 6: ever seem to go to Auckland. They never go to Welly,
- 33:56Speaker 6: they never go to Christchurch.
- 33:57Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 33:58Speaker 6: So this guy's going on road trips, and, you know,
- 34:00Speaker 6: he's talking about his mate there. It sounds like he
- 34:02Speaker 6: really loves Charlie. Yeah. Absolutely loves Charlie. Mm-hmm.
- 34:06Speaker 5: Yeah, well, you know, he likes nothing more than to
- 34:08Speaker 5: get away for the weekend with Charlie.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Fair enough, to be fair. Shall we listen to some
- 34:13Speaker 1: Empire of the Sunfellas?
- 34:14Speaker 3: Oh.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Too late.
- 34:16Speaker 6: Oh.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Walking on a dream.
- 34:18Speaker 6: Cheers. Yeah, it is a tune. Play. Play.
- 34:21Speaker 2: The Hodaki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 34:25Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaki.
- 34:27Speaker 5: Beastie Boys there on the Radio Hodaki Big Show this
- 34:30Speaker 5: Tuesday evening, the time 5.49.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Fellas have had an idea that the Hodaki Big Show,
- 34:37Speaker 1: the fellas, could move to become food influencers.
- 34:41Speaker 5: Yep.
- 34:42Speaker 1: So there's about a billion food influencers from New Zealand
- 34:46Speaker 1: as well, pages out there. But, you know, they wouldn't
- 34:48Speaker 1: have the same unique spin on things as we would.
- 34:51Speaker 1: This comes off the back of a text conversation I
- 34:54Speaker 1: had with Jace on Sunday. So I got sent randomly,
- 34:58Speaker 1: I don't know where, a photo of a bowl of
- 34:59Speaker 1: ramen with no caption or anything, just a bowl of ramen.
- 35:03Speaker 1: And then I said, is that ramen?
- 35:06Speaker 6: Yeah, cool.
- 35:06Speaker 1: And then he said, tan tan with pork mince, delicious.
- 35:11Speaker 1: And then I said, thanks for sharing. And then he said,
- 35:13Speaker 1: you're welcome. A peppery chilli broth with real depth of
- 35:17Speaker 1: flavour and perfectly cooked noodles. A slight pepper burn on
- 35:20Speaker 1: the lips, which is quite pleasant. First time I've finished
- 35:22Speaker 1: a whole bowl of ramen. Sheesh, so full. Ramen chat
- 35:27Speaker 1: with the fellas. It was one of those ones where
- 35:29Speaker 1: the flavour profile kept building.
- 35:32Speaker 5: Now, I need to put this in context for you, Mogi.
- 35:34Speaker 6: Sure.
- 35:35Speaker 5: I knew that Keezy was going to be massively hungover.
- 35:38Speaker 6: Yes.
- 35:39Speaker 5: And so I may or may not have been in
- 35:43Speaker 5: the mood to, you know, stir the pot a little bit.
- 35:45Speaker 1: Yeah, sure.
- 35:46Speaker 5: But I also know he's a fan of ramen. And food.
- 35:49Speaker 5: So I wanted to make him go, oh, damn it,
- 35:52Speaker 5: Hoity J's ramen-ing without me.
- 35:55Speaker 1: No, but the good thing was I was currently eating
- 35:57Speaker 1: a big bowl of noodles, spicy noodles.
- 35:59Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 36:00Speaker 6: I think three out of four people on the big
- 36:01Speaker 6: show were. massively hungover on Sunday.
- 36:04Speaker 1: Yes that's right 100% and old Horty J was out
- 36:06Speaker 1: getting tan tan but I was actually thinking you know
- 36:09Speaker 1: we have a very interesting palette on this show Mogi
- 36:12Speaker 1: you love like rice and tofu and stuff.
- 36:14Speaker 6: Yep well yeah I love great food but I don't
- 36:17Speaker 6: care if I've got bad food.
- 36:19Speaker 1: Yeah which I I cannot handle having bad food yeah
- 36:22Speaker 1: it's like I will not eat this this is one
- 36:24Speaker 1: meal of my life that I have wasted on bad food.
- 36:27Speaker 6: You only get a certain amount of meals yes but
- 36:29Speaker 6: you spend a lot of your meals eating pork mints
- 36:31Speaker 6: yeah 100%.
- 36:34Speaker 1: You know, because it's such a great, versatile meat product.
- 36:36Speaker 5: And it's very lean too.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Not the stuff I get.
- 36:40Speaker 5: Just filled with fat.
- 36:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I get 50% fat pork mince. We have to
- 36:44Speaker 1: order it especially from the butcher. But I was thinking,
- 36:47Speaker 1: imagine if we started some sort of Instagram social page.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Pugs will run it all and film it all and
- 36:51Speaker 1: edit it all and put it out there and run
- 36:53Speaker 1: the whole thing, obviously.
- 36:54Speaker 6: Yeah, of course. He wouldn't care.
- 36:57Speaker 5: I actually genuinely think if the four fellas, if we
- 37:00Speaker 5: made a habit of going to places and saying to them,
- 37:03Speaker 5: we will review your restaurant. If you, you know, just
- 37:06Speaker 5: put it on the house for us there.
- 37:08Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 37:08Speaker 5: Obviously. And the only issue, and I think it would
- 37:12Speaker 5: go off because there's a lot of backbones out there
- 37:14Speaker 5: that love their food and they've gone, oh, the fellas
- 37:17Speaker 5: said this joint was really, really good. Now, I will
- 37:20Speaker 5: tell you this. The biggest amount, I've had a fair
- 37:23Speaker 5: amount of abuse online, but one of the most profound
- 37:27Speaker 5: abuses I've had was when I got a pizza from
- 37:31Speaker 5: a friend of my daughter's who runs a place, and
- 37:33Speaker 5: it was magnificent. It was really, really good.
- 37:36Speaker 6: I remember this.
- 37:37Speaker 5: And I just gave her a little plug, and she
- 37:40Speaker 5: was young, starting off the business. It was fantastic. I
- 37:43Speaker 5: paid for it and all that stuff, and this dude
- 37:45Speaker 5: just winked me.
- 37:46Speaker 6: One person?
- 37:47Speaker 5: One dude. He was just like, if you, Hoyt, you
- 37:49Speaker 5: sell out, you blah, blah, blah.
- 37:51Speaker 1: Really?
- 37:52Speaker 5: I paid for it, dude. I'm just trying to promote
- 37:55Speaker 5: a young business.
- 37:55Speaker 1: Well, how about this then? I'm happy to take it
- 37:57Speaker 1: for free and cop the abuse, but you will always
- 37:59Speaker 1: pay for yours.
- 38:00Speaker 5: Well, the issue that I have with it is I
- 38:02Speaker 5: find it very difficult to, if it was really bad,
- 38:05Speaker 5: say so.
- 38:05Speaker 6: You've got to tell the truth.
- 38:06Speaker 5: Oh, you don't?
- 38:07Speaker 6: No, you've got to tell the truth. You've got an
- 38:09Speaker 6: obligation to your audience to not lie.
- 38:11Speaker 5: Yeah, that's true.
- 38:12Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 38:13Speaker 5: Well, it was like the other day when I went
- 38:14Speaker 5: out and that guy came up to me and said,
- 38:16Speaker 5: good eating, and that burger joint.
- 38:18Speaker 6: Yeah, and you lied to him.
- 38:19Speaker 5: Well, it was terrible. And I went, yeah, it's all right.
- 38:21Speaker 5: It was really bad.
- 38:22Speaker 6: All that time where you were having that chicken lemongrass
- 38:25Speaker 6: bao bun and that guy said, idiot.
- 38:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, just like that.
- 38:30Speaker 5: But that was a delicious bao bun, though. It was
- 38:33Speaker 5: actually a banh mi. Oh, banh mi.
- 38:35Speaker 1: So, look, it's just an idea at this stage.
- 38:37Speaker 5: You're floating it.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm just floating it. And I'm going to get
- 38:40Speaker 1: Pugs to put together a few demo reels of how
- 38:44Speaker 1: it could look.
- 38:45Speaker 6: That sounds good.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Maybe like four or five reels.
- 38:47Speaker 6: He looks like he's fizzing about that idea.
- 38:49Speaker 5: Well, you look at, too, how much our Come Dine
- 38:52Speaker 5: With Me goes off.
- 38:53Speaker 6: It does. Especially this weekend's one.
- 38:55Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm going to be taking heaps of pics.
- 38:59Speaker 6: Really? Yeah, man.
- 39:00Speaker 1: But look, it's just an idea at this stage. Fellas,
- 39:02Speaker 1: leave it with me and Pugs, most of the Pugs,
- 39:04Speaker 1: and we'll just workshop it.
- 39:05Speaker 5: Get on your Pugs. You're a back, but God, you're good.
- 39:08Speaker 5: What would we do without Pugs?
- 39:12Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 39:15Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 39:17Speaker 5: Welcome back, you massive backbones. You are listening to The
- 39:20Speaker 5: Big Show brought to you by Reburg Air.
- 39:22Speaker 1: Craveworthy street food freshly made with Reburg Air.
- 39:25Speaker 5: Reburg Air. Fellas, I'm fuming. I just popped out there
- 39:31Speaker 5: in the break just to get a bit of fresh air.
- 39:34Speaker 6: Sure.
- 39:34Speaker 5: She's bloody chilly out there, I'll tell you.
- 39:36Speaker 6: Well, yeah.
- 39:38Speaker 5: And anyway, I was coming back into the building because
- 39:41Speaker 5: the sliding doors have stopped now because it's after six.
- 39:44Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 39:44Speaker 5: And I saw a person walking towards me in the
- 39:47Speaker 5: little reception area there. So I stood at the door
- 39:51Speaker 5: to hold the door open for them. And it was
- 39:54Speaker 5: a good five, ten seconds because I was in two
- 39:56Speaker 5: minds about doing it because they were quite far away.
- 39:59Speaker 5: And I went, no, no, I'll do it. Stood there,
- 40:03Speaker 5: opened the door for them, held the door. They walked
- 40:05Speaker 5: through and didn't even thank me. Wow. That is an outrage.
- 40:10Speaker 5: Where's common decency?
- 40:12Speaker 6: Man or woman?
- 40:13Speaker 5: I don't know. It was a woman. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 40:17Speaker 5: And I was like, I nearly said, you're welcome, but
- 40:21Speaker 5: I didn't.
- 40:22Speaker 6: It's crazy, isn't it? Because, you know, we've got the
- 40:24Speaker 6: studio here. We're often in and out. As you say,
- 40:27Speaker 6: you're off to quite a lot to get some fresh air.
- 40:29Speaker 5: Yeah, some fresh air into the lungs.
- 40:31Speaker 6: I might be coming in right behind you, and you'll
- 40:33Speaker 6: actively close the door as quickly as you can. You'll
- 40:35Speaker 6: actively make an effort to not keep the door open
- 40:38Speaker 6: for any of us that might be following. And yet
- 40:40Speaker 6: for this woman, stranger was it?
- 40:42Speaker 5: Yeah, never met her in my life.
- 40:43Speaker 6: No, no, no. Opening the door for you. I think
- 40:45Speaker 6: that's your just dessert.
- 40:46Speaker 5: I only do that to you when I'm going wheeze
- 40:48Speaker 5: and I don't want you following me because I know
- 40:50Speaker 5: what you're like when we're, you know, at the little
- 40:52Speaker 5: urinal there. You get very chatty. And I just find
- 40:56Speaker 5: it interrupts my flow.
- 40:58Speaker 6: Yeah, I know.
- 40:59Speaker 5: And Keezy's the same. He'll chat away there while he's...
- 41:02Speaker 5: What are you talking about? Just when I'm going wheeze.
- 41:04Speaker 6: Nah, I won't, man.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Silent time for me. Hey, by the way, New Zealand,
- 41:10Speaker 1: we want to know what you're having for dinner tonight.
- 41:11Speaker 4: Yes.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Doing that next, by the way, What's For Tea New
- 41:13Speaker 1: Zealand with me, Keezy. Every single text in the draw
- 41:16Speaker 1: for 50 bucks worth of Reburger. 3483, we want to
- 41:19Speaker 1: know what you're having for tea, what your name is,
- 41:21Speaker 1: and where you're texting from as well.
- 41:25Speaker 5: Here's Linkin Park.
- 41:28Speaker 2: The Horaki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 41:31Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Horaki.
- 41:34Speaker 5: The Gorillaz there on the Radio Horaki Big Show this
- 41:38Speaker 5: Tuesday evening.
- 41:40Speaker 1: Hey fellas, we've got $ 2, 500 worth of goodies from Trade
- 41:44Speaker 1: Tested to give away. Trade Tested, they specialise in everything
- 41:48Speaker 1: you need for your backyard. And it gets delivered to
- 41:51Speaker 1: your front door.
- 41:52Speaker 6: Yeah, nice.
- 41:53Speaker 1: Backyard stuff to your front door. If you are keen
- 41:56Speaker 1: to win $ 2, 500 worth of stuff, head to tradetester.co.nz. Put
- 42:00Speaker 1: together a bit of a shopping list there. You've got
- 42:03Speaker 1: up to the $ 2, 500 mark, and then go to hodaki.co.nz
- 42:07Speaker 1: slash bigdeckenergy.com. and enter there with your shopping list.
- 42:10Speaker 5: And just on that, because you mentioned it yesterday, people
- 42:13Speaker 5: were very good last year at getting right up to
- 42:16Speaker 5: that 2,500, 2,499 type. 100%, yeah. Good stuff.
- 42:21Speaker 1: It was good stuff. So tradetested.co.nz, put together a shopping list,
- 42:24Speaker 1: then go to hodaki.co.nz, enter the competition, make your deck
- 42:28Speaker 1: great with Trade Tested, fellas.
- 42:30Speaker 6: How good.
- 42:31Speaker 5: But right now it's time for... That's right.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Time to chat footy with me, Keezy. What are the
- 42:39Speaker 1: Warriors up to?
- 42:40Speaker 2: Douche, douche, douche, douche, douche, douche.
- 42:46Speaker 5: Hopefully winning.
- 42:47Speaker 6: Teamless Tuesday. The fellas are obviously up against the Newcastle
- 42:50Speaker 6: Knights and the Eliminator. We've got an Eliminator this Sunday
- 42:53Speaker 6: at the sold-out Eden Park. Fell sold out in about
- 42:55Speaker 6: 24 hours. I went to get tickets. There's one seat
- 42:58Speaker 6: over here, one over there, one over there. No good.
- 43:02Speaker 5: It didn't surprise me because, God, they're bloody popular. I
- 43:05Speaker 5: don't know if you've noticed. They like the Warriors.
- 43:07Speaker 6: People like them. People like them.
- 43:09Speaker 5: Who, the Warriors? Who did the Knights beat last weekend,
- 43:13Speaker 5: by the way?
- 43:14Speaker 1: Rabbitohs.
- 43:14Speaker 5: Okay.
- 43:15Speaker 6: Yeah, got them good. Here's your team there, fellas. Injuries,
- 43:18Speaker 6: once again, mean we're not fielding our best possible team. Well,
- 43:21Speaker 6: best possible team without the injured people in it. You
- 43:24Speaker 6: put the injured people on, they'd be no good.
- 43:26Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 43:27Speaker 6: Because they're injured. Fullback, Tain Tuapiki.
- 43:31Speaker 5: Yeah, man.
- 43:31Speaker 6: How about that?
- 43:32Speaker 1: He played very well last week.
- 43:33Speaker 5: He had a great game.
- 43:34Speaker 6: Chans, your winger is Chans and AKP. Your centres are
- 43:39Speaker 6: Ali Laotawa and Adam Pompey. Great. CHT and Tamari Martin
- 43:46Speaker 6: are your halves. Front row of James Fisher-Harris, Barnett and
- 43:50Speaker 6: Wade Egan. Kurt Capewell and Jacob Laban are your back
- 43:54Speaker 6: rowers with Aaron Clark. Isn't that lock, fellas?
- 43:57Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 43:57Speaker 6: Interchange is pretty standy. Sam Healy, Tennis Tower Smith, Dimitri Valmonga,
- 44:02Speaker 6: Eddie Aramia, Toyava, and Jack Cleary has made it on
- 44:07Speaker 6: there as well. Six-man bench with Morgan Gannon. Old mate,
- 44:12Speaker 6: Jackson Ford. Played only 26 minutes last week, fellas. Looks
- 44:17Speaker 6: like they're holding out hope for Leka Halasema and DWZ,
- 44:20Speaker 6: who are both planted on the reserves list. So there's
- 44:24Speaker 6: a chance they could come in. So they might get
- 44:25Speaker 6: a late call-up.
- 44:26Speaker 5: Ideally, you want to not play them win, and then
- 44:30Speaker 5: they're fresh.
- 44:31Speaker 6: Oh, 100%.
- 44:32Speaker 5: Against their dolphins there.
- 44:34Speaker 6: But what you don't want to do is not play
- 44:36Speaker 6: them and lose.
- 44:36Speaker 5: And then it's all over, over.
- 44:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:39Speaker 6: It's a tricky one. And also, Keezy, for the Knights,
- 44:44Speaker 6: pretty much as read, but Dylan Lucas, who's been out
- 44:47Speaker 6: since round 21 with a fractured ankle. A fractured ankle
- 44:51Speaker 6: has been named among the reserves.
- 44:53Speaker 1: See, the thing we've got to look out for with
- 44:55Speaker 1: the Knights is their left edge is ridiculous. Dylan Lucas
- 45:00Speaker 1: plays on the left edge. He's the left side back rower.
- 45:02Speaker 1: And he is a tri-scoring machine.
- 45:04Speaker 6: Yeah, he's a tri-scoring machine.
- 45:06Speaker 5: Is he?
- 45:06Speaker 1: Because they'll feign going out wide to Caelan Ponga and
- 45:10Speaker 1: out to Greg Maggio.
- 45:11Speaker 6: And hit him short.
- 45:11Speaker 1: Barnstorming winger. And they'll hit it short. And Bradman Best
- 45:14Speaker 1: as well. And they'll hit it short to Lucas, who's
- 45:17Speaker 1: just an absolute weapon.
- 45:19Speaker 5: Well, can I just say this? If you guys know that,
- 45:22Speaker 5: surely the Warriors do.
- 45:24Speaker 6: Exactly right, man. But it's one thing to know it.
- 45:26Speaker 6: It's another thing to stop it. Just stop it. Yes.
- 45:28Speaker 6: All I'll say is this. This is potentially our last
- 45:31Speaker 6: game of the season. I don't care if we lose
- 45:33Speaker 6: as long as we play Warriors footy. Yeah. I just
- 45:36Speaker 6: want them to give it 100%, to go hard, to
- 45:38Speaker 6: try as hard as they can, to go for tries,
- 45:40Speaker 6: to not kick penalties. Go hard and die trying. Don't
- 45:43Speaker 6: be nervous. and make sort of those protect the lead
- 45:48Speaker 6: sort of decisions.
- 45:49Speaker 5: Yes, I agree.
- 45:49Speaker 6: You're not going to win the comp like that, so
- 45:51Speaker 6: let's start playing like goddamn backbone.
- 45:53Speaker 5: Leave it all out on the field, Mogi.
- 45:56Speaker 6: Hear, hear.
- 45:56Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 46:00Speaker 2: in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.
- 46:03Speaker 5: Ozzy Osbourne there on the Radio Hauraki Big Show this
- 46:07Speaker 5: Tuesday evening. Fellas, and I hope you don't mind, but
- 46:10Speaker 5: I want to talk a bit of fashion with you
- 46:12Speaker 5: if you'll indulge me.
- 46:13Speaker 6: Fashion chat.
- 46:14Speaker 5: Yes.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Here we go. Fashion chat with the fellas.
- 46:22Speaker 5: And more specifically, I want to talk about something that
- 46:25Speaker 5: I've noticed out there over the last few months. The
- 46:27Speaker 5: new look, I guess you can call it, right? And
- 46:30Speaker 5: it's the three-quarter pant. Now... Where have you been looking?
- 46:35Speaker 1: Because I have not seen that anywhere.
- 46:37Speaker 5: Are you serious?
- 46:38Speaker 1: Are you talking about baggy shorts?
- 46:40Speaker 5: No, I'm not talking about like... For example, Pugs came
- 46:44Speaker 5: in today with those ridiculous shorts.
- 46:46Speaker 1: Really long baggy shorts.
- 46:47Speaker 5: Yeah, that you could argue were the three-quarter pant. Now,
- 46:52Speaker 5: I'm talking about the look. Imagine if a guy's wearing boots, right?
- 46:56Speaker 5: Ankle boots.
- 46:57Speaker 1: So like the ones you used to wear?
- 46:59Speaker 5: Yeah, ankle boots, your bloodstones, stuff like that. And the
- 47:02Speaker 5: pant is about three or four inches above the top
- 47:06Speaker 5: of the boot.
- 47:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:08Speaker 5: Back in the day, if someone walked out of that,
- 47:10Speaker 5: you know, walked around with that, you'd go, geez, he
- 47:12Speaker 5: got that horribly wrong.
- 47:13Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 47:13Speaker 5: You know, you'd be like, come on, man, what are
- 47:15Speaker 5: you thinking? That's way off. But I've noticed it more
- 47:19Speaker 5: and more, and I just wanted to get your view
- 47:21Speaker 5: on it. How do you feel? Because actually, even though
- 47:24Speaker 5: initially my initial reaction is, God, that's terrible, that's wrong,
- 47:28Speaker 5: it looks wrong, it's sort.
- 47:29Speaker 6: Of growing on me. How are you going to start it?
- 47:31Speaker 5: I'm considering going the three-quarter pant. Have you honestly never
- 47:35Speaker 5: seen it, Keezy? No.
- 47:37Speaker 1: Well, I've seen a sort of high, you know, where
- 47:39Speaker 1: it sits slightly high above the cuff. You know what
- 47:43Speaker 1: I mean? Yeah, I know what you mean. Because I'm
- 47:44Speaker 1: wearing quite baggy jeans at the moment. Reasonably baggy.
- 47:47Speaker 4: Yes.
- 47:48Speaker 1: But I've seen ones that go down and show off
- 47:50Speaker 1: the sock.
- 47:51Speaker 5: Yes.
- 47:51Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 47:52Speaker 1: So that's what you mean.
- 47:53Speaker 5: So if you had your socks pulled right up, it
- 47:55Speaker 5: basically goes to the top.
- 47:56Speaker 6: Of your sock. Yeah, right, okay.
- 47:58Speaker 5: And it's just a weird look. I wondered what you
- 47:59Speaker 5: guys made of it, and would you ever pull it,
- 48:01Speaker 5: you know, would you ever do it?
- 48:02Speaker 6: I've given it no thought, and no, I wouldn't try it.
- 48:05Speaker 5: Okay, yeah, good.
- 48:05Speaker 6: You know what I mean? You just, yeah. That's right. Jase,
- 48:08Speaker 6: fashion is not for us.
- 48:10Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 48:11Speaker 6: Fashion is for young people. You're right, Maggie. Style is
- 48:13Speaker 6: for older people.
- 48:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 48:15Speaker 6: You have to have your own style, but you can't
- 48:17Speaker 6: be chopping and changing with the fashions.
- 48:19Speaker 5: Well, you know, because I was just on there, because
- 48:22Speaker 5: I'm getting on now. I'm thinking of running a, you know,
- 48:25Speaker 5: a cravat or something like that.
- 48:28Speaker 6: Yeah, right.
- 48:28Speaker 5: Okay.
- 48:29Speaker 1: Look, I think the issue you've got too is if
- 48:31Speaker 1: you did want to do the three quarter pants is
- 48:33Speaker 1: I guess you'd have to buy half pants, you know,
- 48:36Speaker 1: cause the three quarters be quite baggy on you.
- 48:39Speaker 6: Quite long.
- 48:39Speaker 5: Yeah, long.
- 48:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 48:41Speaker 1: So do they do half pants? Maybe shorts. Buy shorts.
- 48:45Speaker 5: Well, I think if I wore a board short, that
- 48:48Speaker 5: would probably qualify as a three-quarter pant for me. You
- 48:51Speaker 5: know what I mean?
- 48:52Speaker 1: So maybe get some boardies.
- 48:54Speaker 5: Well, as I say, I'm not convinced I want to
- 48:56Speaker 5: have that look.
- 48:56Speaker 1: Do you want to look really cool?
- 48:58Speaker 6: Yes.
- 48:59Speaker 1: How about an Emerson's hoodie?
- 49:00Speaker 5: Oh, now you're talking.
- 49:01Speaker 6: Hey. Hey.
- 49:03Speaker 1: Hey. Name our beer, guys. It's happening again. If you
- 49:06Speaker 1: want to go to the Dunedin Beer and Food Festival.
- 49:09Speaker 5: Oh, yes, please.
- 49:10Speaker 1: And you want to look cool while doing it.
- 49:12Speaker 5: In your three-quarter pants.
- 49:13Speaker 6: Yeah, sure.
- 49:15Speaker 1: Whatever you want to wear down there. But you'd like
- 49:16Speaker 1: to take an Emerson's hoodie with you. We've got a
- 49:18Speaker 1: whole heap of free ones to give away. All you
- 49:20Speaker 1: have to do is name the special Emerson's beer that
- 49:22Speaker 1: they have made for the Dunedin Craft Beer and Food Festival.
- 49:25Speaker 1: It's Tropical Hazy Pale Ale. Text us through on 3483
- 49:28Speaker 1: if you have a particular name you'd like to name
- 49:32Speaker 1: the beer. And we're going to dish out a few
- 49:34Speaker 1: more of those hoodies tonight, fellas.
- 49:35Speaker 6: How good.
- 49:36Speaker 1: Just having a look. Matt says, five buzzy beersy. Five
- 49:42Speaker 1: buzzy beersy.
- 49:44Speaker 6: It doesn't grab me. It's not bad, though. It's not bad.
- 49:47Speaker 1: You know, five buzzes out of five.
- 49:49Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I get it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 49:50Speaker 1: Just in case you didn't get it there. This one
- 49:52Speaker 1: from Sam. A feeler's folly.
- 49:56Speaker 6: No.
- 49:56Speaker 1: A feeler's folly.
- 49:57Speaker 5: No.
- 49:58Speaker 1: Okay.
- 49:59Speaker 5: It's too earnest.
- 50:01Speaker 1: Okay, hang on. Let me just, yeah.
- 50:03Speaker 6: What have you got there?
- 50:03Speaker 1: Old Mogi's Ale.
- 50:07Speaker 5: Old Mogi's Ale.
- 50:08Speaker 1: We can't just shit on every single text, guys.
- 50:11Speaker 5: I was going to say, I don't mind that.
- 50:13Speaker 6: I don't mind Old Mogi's Ale.
- 50:19Speaker 5: But I can have with my pipe.
- 50:20Speaker 6: Yeah, that's right.
- 50:21Speaker 5: You know what I mean?
- 50:21Speaker 1: It's Mogi in a really cool top hat.
- 50:23Speaker 6: Yeah, there we go.
- 50:24Speaker 1: Like a side profile.
- 50:26Speaker 5: Old Mogi's Ale.
- 50:27Speaker 1: Quite a dark ale.
- 50:28Speaker 5: Yes.
- 50:29Speaker 1: Obviously, this is a hazy pale ale.
- 50:31Speaker 6: Jajuj. Jajuj. Like juice.
- 50:35Speaker 5: Jajuj.
- 50:35Speaker 6: Jajuj.
- 50:36Speaker 1: Instead of da-do.
- 50:39Speaker 5: Someone needs to talk to that guy.
- 50:40Speaker 1: Yeah, okay. Nectar of the loins.
- 50:43Speaker 6: No, no. Okay. What else have you got there, man?
- 50:46Speaker 1: Anaconda ale. Buzzy brew. N'dear pale ale. Hazy hail. Responsibly hazed.
- 50:57Speaker 5: Responsibly hazed.
- 50:58Speaker 1: Old monkey horn keezy. That doesn't make any sense. Crafty drop.
- 51:03Speaker 6: Righto.
- 51:04Speaker 1: This one here is the worst. Filthy old neglected but
- 51:07Speaker 1: eager Keezy using the Hubble telescope to gaze like a
- 51:10Speaker 1: lovestruck teen back over his shoulder and ample gooch with
- 51:13Speaker 1: old Keezy.
- 51:14Speaker 6: Ale.
- 51:15Speaker 5: That's my top three.
- 51:16Speaker 6: No, it's not. Lock it in. Lock it in.
- 51:19Speaker 1: That's shit. 3483, name our ale.
- 51:22Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 51:25Speaker 2: in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.
- 51:35Speaker 5: Well, there you go, you mad bastards. That's a big
- 51:37Speaker 5: show done and dusted this Tuesday. Jeez, we've gone right
- 51:39Speaker 5: up to seven tonight, fellas. It's been an action-packed show.
- 51:44Speaker 5: What's the clip from the disclaimer today, our bonus podcast there, Keezy?
- 51:48Speaker 1: Today's clip, full potty comes out at 7.30, but today's
- 51:50Speaker 1: clip is about auctions. An old hoity-jay there buying a lamp.
- 51:56Speaker 5: I was watching it count down going, oh, God, 30 seconds.
- 52:01Speaker 5: Someone bought it.
- 52:02Speaker 1: Did you celebrate?
- 52:03Speaker 5: I was like, oh, thank f * * * for that.
- 52:04Speaker 6: Comment on there, eh, sucker? But then your competitive spirit
- 52:07Speaker 6: kicked up again, eh?
- 52:08Speaker 5: Well, it did, and then I bid on something else. Oh, good. Well,
- 52:12Speaker 5: I've lost that now, so this one I'm still keen on.
- 52:16Speaker 1: So, Jase, how many things have you bid on at auction?
- 52:21Speaker 5: Truly, I've been involved in four auctions. I've probably bid
- 52:25Speaker 5: on eight things.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Eight things, and you've bought one?
- 52:28Speaker 6: Yeah. Good stuff.
- 52:29Speaker 5: Not bad. Yeah, it's not bad. Moki, your plans? I'm
- 52:32Speaker 5: going to go home.
- 52:33Speaker 6: I'll be completely honest with you, fellas. I'm pretty, pretty
- 52:36Speaker 6: sure I'm getting sick.
- 52:38Speaker 5: Right, okay.
- 52:38Speaker 6: I'm pretty, pretty sure. So I'm going to go home.
- 52:41Speaker 6: I'm going to have a bath, and I'm going to
- 52:42Speaker 6: go straight to bed. I'll be in the old fart
- 52:45Speaker 6: sack there, Keezy. I'll send you a photo, brother.
- 52:48Speaker 1: Why do you always point the fart sack out to me?
- 52:51Speaker 5: Like, why?
- 52:52Speaker 6: You love a fart sack.
- 52:53Speaker 1: I like my fart sack, not yours. Ew, Mogi's fart sack, gross.
- 52:57Speaker 6: I'll send you a photo of my fart sack with
- 52:59Speaker 6: me all tucked up in there, Keezy.
- 53:01Speaker 5: The thermometer coming out of your mouth.
- 53:03Speaker 6: Yeah, or... Oh, durry.
- 53:06Speaker 1: No, backside.
- 53:09Speaker 6: What will you be doing this evening, Keezy, when I
- 53:11Speaker 6: send you that photo of my thermometer?
- 53:13Speaker 1: Pugs and I are going to a special PlayStation event tonight.
- 53:16Speaker 4: Doosh, doosh, doosh.
- 53:18Speaker 1: Celebrating the.
- 53:18Speaker 6: Stop.
- 53:20Speaker 1: Celebrating the release of a new Wolverine game.
- 53:23Speaker 6: Oh, you're joking.
- 53:24Speaker 1: So there's a bar in Ponsonby that they've taken over
- 53:28Speaker 1: and themed out, and then we're going to get a
- 53:30Speaker 1: free copy of the game, hopefully, and dinner and drinks
- 53:32Speaker 1: and stuff.
