- 0:30Hello and welcome back to another episode of the Easy
- 0:32Double Podcast, Episode 29 this week and I'm joined by Father,
- 0:39Father Dean, Happy Father's Day. Thanks mate, yeah same to you.
- 0:50You get you get spoiled by the the 2 loves in your life.
- 0:55I was wondering if this would even come up to this episode in
- 0:58the back of my mind about this bloody cat.
- 1:01Well, here we are, it within 10 seconds and seen as we've gone
- 1:05there. Jesus Christ.
- 1:07I woke up this morning and Becky presents me with a card
- 1:11handwritten from myself like 2 massive pages but like as if the
- 1:16cat had wrote it. Like to daddy thanks for giving
- 1:19me treats and stuff like this. It's outrageous.
- 1:24You, you very kindly sent me a message earlier today wishing me
- 1:27Happy Father's Day and I nearly responded in kind.
- 1:30And I thought, is that have I is that an over overstep?
- 1:33But sounds like it's not. You know, coffee Club podcasts
- 1:38they have, I can't remember which one of them, the dog they
- 1:41call the CEO, ghosts. So maybe our CEO could be gummy
- 1:45gummy. Gum bum.
- 1:48All right. We've just lost listeners within
- 1:50the first minute. We haven't even got going.
- 1:53And welcome also to Owen Smith, who's fresh off the back of his
- 1:58first interview, which we're all very excited to listen.
- 2:02Thank you very, very much. Yeah, I was extremely nervous
- 2:07intervene Andrew, but no, I think about went well and people
- 2:11will definitely take something from it, which is good and it's
- 2:14just it was nice to get him like before the world's as well like
- 2:17he's there in Hong Kong and he was saying it's so, so humid out
- 2:20there so like certain times he can only train like certain
- 2:23hours of the day and then he's like straight inside like trying
- 2:25to conserve energy because I think his schedule is mad.
- 2:28He's running, I think it's a week, it's Sunday to Sunday and
- 2:30he's running like 5 days or something like that if he makes
- 2:33like he semi final final and then in the 5K heats and finals.
- 2:38So it's a pretty stacked schedule.
- 2:39So yeah, I know it's really interesting to see how his
- 2:42training is going and all that sort of stuff.
- 2:45So is he in Hong Kong by himself at the minute, or with the rest
- 2:47of the Irish? Camp, no, that's where the Irish
- 2:50holding camp is. So yeah, I don't think the 5K
- 2:54guys are there yet. They'll come, I think, he said.
- 2:57They're coming in like a few days, but yeah, majority of the
- 3:00runners who are running early on in the week are there.
- 3:05Is. There cool.
- 3:06Is there hate semi final and final or hate?
- 3:0915 for the 15 there's a heat, semi final final and then for
- 3:14the 5K there's just a heat and a.
- 3:16Final. Yeah, so looking forward to
- 3:18getting that one else that will be coming to you later this
- 3:21week, maybe third Wednesday, Thursday as a bit of a World
- 3:25Champs pre content to fill the rest of your week.
- 3:29So yeah, Owen's chat with Andrew Koskran is will be coming.
- 3:33And for those in the clubhouse, they got the chance actually to
- 3:37ask some listener questions. So I don't know.
- 3:39How did you get on with them, Owen?
- 3:40Did you squeeze a few in? Well, one of them was about
- 3:44Conor McGregor, which also Irish don't really like anymore.
- 3:48He's a very hot topic at the moment for all the wrong
- 3:51reasons, so I didn't bring up that.
- 3:53But yeah, I brought up the training questions that were.
- 3:56Asked. Yeah, but like going down the
- 4:00Donald Trump route, I guess. Yeah, if you want to say.
- 4:05That equally as controversial characters, but yeah, we best
- 4:08stay away from that topic as well probably.
- 4:13But yeah, thanks for doing that and looking forward to giving it
- 4:15a listen myself. Also just an A shout out to a
- 4:19guy from the world back where I'm from, Josh crumble Herm.
- 4:22So got a text off a friend the other day saying he'd he works
- 4:27with him and he's a big fan of the part and he's been
- 4:29listening. But the only bad thing is he
- 4:32runs for my local club at home, their rivals.
- 4:36So not too sure about that one. But thanks for listening, Josh.
- 4:42What's the local club's name? We can just.
- 4:44So it's what we're all we're all they see.
- 4:49From the world, though. Well, yeah, exactly.
- 4:52But they're like the big, kind of like big massive club, but
- 4:56we're just a little the little underdogs with a little wall,
- 4:59see? I don't know what the world
- 5:02sounds like. Some mystical place doesn't know
- 5:06the world. Well, it is, and this the
- 5:10things. That's why sometimes you say to
- 5:12people that you're from Liverpool, depending on who
- 5:14you're speaking to, but then actual people from Liverpool
- 5:18would get offended if they heard you say that because you're not.
- 5:20I was actually watching a video on YouTube, some random one, and
- 5:23some lad said Oh yeah, I'm from the world.
- 5:25And I was like, oh, I know where that is.
- 5:30Structure of this episode then we've got results from the Great
- 5:33North Run up in the North East of England from Newcastle.
- 5:37The big half was also on in the UK from London, the USA 20K
- 5:43championships in America, and we're going to preview the 5th
- 5:47Ave. Mile in New York with then.
- 5:50I think you just lost me for a SEC there, 5th Ave.
- 5:52Mile. I'll carry on.
- 5:53We're then going to drop training weeks this week, or the
- 5:55majority of it anyway, and we're going to jump into our
- 5:59predictions ahead of the Tokyo World Championships and we
- 6:03hopefully have a bit of a game competition for the clubhouse
- 6:07members coming up. And then we will jump into a
- 6:10couple of the news items which have cropped up this week, which
- 6:13is the Australian have Australia have released their team for the
- 6:16world's and an interesting nation has bid to host a future
- 6:21version of the World Athletic Championships.
- 6:24And when I was looking into this, there's actually a couple
- 6:26of other interesting nations who've also submitted bids.
- 6:29So could be a fun couple of years ahead.
- 6:32We've got YouTube Diaries and we've got Double Trouble as
- 6:35well. So let's kick things off at the
- 6:38Great North Run, if you will, Owen.
- 6:41Yes, so I actually watched this a couple of hours ago.
- 6:44It was on a reasonable time for me.
- 6:47And this race is pretty cool. So let's again, let's say it's
- 6:49one of the biggest, well, races in the world.
- 6:53I think there's 60 odd 1000 people that do it.
- 6:56And they set the women off 15 minutes before, well, the elite
- 6:59women, 1515 minutes before the elite man.
- 7:03Straight from the off, there was like sort of a group of four.
- 7:06It was Sheila, Chef Crewe, Vivian Chariot, Asian McCall
- 7:11again and Emily Sisson. So they were sort of like
- 7:13together. And Ellis Mccallagan didn't look
- 7:15the best. She was just off off the front
- 7:17of that group and the two canyons were sort of pushing on.
- 7:21And then it sort of worked out that way.
- 7:23Eilish Mccullen dropped off the back and then Sisson slowly
- 7:26dropped off and the two canyons just pushed on.
- 7:29And yeah, I'd say it was a pretty windy day over there, but
- 7:34they make a turn with a mile to go and it's along the coast.
- 7:38And I think you have a tailwind then.
- 7:40So Chef Carui, she just sort of pushed on.
- 7:44She was stronger than Vivian Chariot, but you ain't that
- 7:46Vivian Chariot. She's been around a long time.
- 7:49And then Ellis Mcculligan picked up Emily Sisson.
- 7:52And I'd say if there was another kilometer to go, Mcculligan
- 7:56might have caught Chariot. But no, she just didn't have
- 8:00enough in the legs. But yeah, again, a good race.
- 8:03And in the men's side, this start off so fast.
- 8:06So they opened up basically Abel Kipchumba.
- 8:12Well, first the results, Alec Matuso won in an hour and 52,
- 8:16then Bashar Abdi and then it was Abel Kipchumba.
- 8:20And from the off it was there was a group of like 5 or 6 and
- 8:26that Abel Kichumba who finished up third, he, he was pushing
- 8:30like for the 1st 8 miles, definitely just from the front.
- 8:34It looked like he was sprinting the whole time and but then he
- 8:36sort of eventually slowed down and it was Alec Matuso,
- 8:39Ambassador Abdi just pushing on. They looked, Abdi looked so
- 8:43comfy. He was just high fiving people
- 8:45in the crowd at the start. Kieran Tantavate, he used to be
- 8:49with the Barrowmen and he won the 5K the night before.
- 8:53He went with that group along with Mark Scott, but both of
- 8:56them blew up big time. And then friend of the show Jake
- 9:00Schmidt, he came true, really, really strong with Ben O'Connor.
- 9:04But it was neck and neck until the last, like a kilometer.
- 9:08And Alex Matuso just put the foot on the gas and, yeah,
- 9:11pushed away from Bashar Abdi. So, yeah, not the fastest times
- 9:15ever run there. Like the women's was won in 69
- 9:19minutes, 69 minutes, 32 seconds. Second was 6937 and 3rd was
- 9:246942. But yeah, very, it was
- 9:27entertaining to watch. And the way they filmed it,
- 9:30Sydney could really take a leaf out of that book.
- 9:32It was like, I hate to say it, but like they concentrated a
- 9:35little bit on the wheelchair, but not didn't push them too
- 9:38much. Like they just switch on to them
- 9:40for like 10 seconds, then go back and they'd have a bike on
- 9:44the men and the women and yeah, it was just really good coverage
- 9:47all around. So yeah, really good race.
- 9:51I was going to say that, you know, because I had it on for
- 9:53about 15 minutes myself and there was a point where they had
- 9:57an overhead shot, must have been from a helicopter.
- 10:00And you could then see on the road because they were showing
- 10:03the distance of the gap between the lead females and Alish
- 10:07Mccolgan was chasing them at the time.
- 10:09So you could obviously get like a clear representation of how
- 10:12far back she was. But you could also see that they
- 10:15had a motorbike on the lead women and a motorbike on Aalish.
- 10:20And then there's obviously another motorbike on the lead
- 10:22man and maybe the chase man as well.
- 10:25So like, it's mad that an event like this, obviously it's a big
- 10:29race in the UK, but Sydney being a major and they couldn't kind
- 10:33of like replicate that with multiple excuses out on course
- 10:36with different cameras chopping between.
- 10:38No, it was really good, really good coverage.
- 10:40And yeah, Sydney could learn, learn a thing or two from this
- 10:43race. As well, you mentioned Jake
- 10:45Smith. He was very measured in his
- 10:47approach, wasn't he? Because he kind of came through
- 10:51maybe for the most of the race he was like in that chase pack,
- 10:54but maybe like 8th, 8th or something.
- 10:57And then because I know when I was watching it anyway, he was
- 11:00chasing down Mark Scott. He was good 20 or 30 meters
- 11:04behind him and he's ended up finishing a couple of places
- 11:06ahead of him but. What time did Jake run in the
- 11:09end? 63 O 7 on a bad like I don't
- 11:14think it counts towards records because it's point to point, but
- 11:18he was delighted to coming across the line.
- 11:20Like you could see he was. He was really happy with how he
- 11:22ran and I feel like like like he sort of had to take AI.
- 11:26Don't know how like he could have easily went with that lead
- 11:29group when he's seeing Mark Scott and I'll go with him.
- 11:32And he sort of had to just sit back and run his own race, which
- 11:34I think he's so good at doing. And then he's so measured in his
- 11:38effort and look, he was second Brit home so he he can't
- 11:42complain. Thanks Owen.
- 11:43Moving on to the big half then. It's not really that there was
- 11:46two major half marathons in the UK on the same day in different
- 11:50cities and they've still got certainly in the women's field
- 11:55is very, very good for the big half.
- 11:58So the women's results was won by Jess Warner Judd in 70
- 12:02minutes and 35 seconds from Abby Donnelly 7124, Samantha Harrison
- 12:087140 and Charlotte Purdue 7236. So I think all four of them, if
- 12:16not Olympic representation, they've been at world champs.
- 12:21So yeah, crazy the standard there.
- 12:24And then in the men's side of things, Jack Rowe won that in 64
- 12:28O 8 from Mohammed Adan in 6446 and Wayne A Gabriel Selassie in
- 12:336453. And it's just linking back to
- 12:38the last week's episode or the week before maybe where we spoke
- 12:40of UK Athletics and the marathon selections and stuff.
- 12:45A few of these names in the in the lists here.
- 12:48And the results are some of those guys who kind of had
- 12:51enough points on paper to be going.
- 12:53So obviously they're, unfortunately for them running
- 12:57the big half in London rather than preparing for Tokyo next
- 13:00week. But this goes to show at least
- 13:02they're still racing and hopefully picking up some prize
- 13:05money. Do you know if that's a fast
- 13:08course or not? Because the times aren't the
- 13:10fastest. No, I don't think so.
- 13:12You know, I think it's more of an, A race for the masses.
- 13:15And then obviously I assume some of these guys will even be
- 13:18getting an appearance fee because they sell it as almost
- 13:21like a, a landmark half marathon.
- 13:24So it goes past like the London Eye and Big Ben and stuff like
- 13:28that. Next result was the USA.
- 13:30This is so random. The USA 10K20K road
- 13:34championships. So the reason why I find this
- 13:38quite interesting is that Connor Mance won it in a time of 5616,
- 13:44and to try and contextualise that somewhat, it equates to a
- 13:485924 half marathon, which we know is pretty damn quick.
- 13:54And in March, he ran 5915 for the US record, so he's in pretty
- 14:00much his own PB shape. Which again, for context,
- 14:05Gondin, Oh. Yeah, Just to add, I mean, he's
- 14:08in the still in the midst of a marathon block right ahead of
- 14:11Chicago. So arguably, would you say maybe
- 14:14even slightly more impressive than when he would have
- 14:16freshened up for that Houston half?
- 14:18Yeah, definitely. You'd imagine he wouldn't be
- 14:20kind of coming down too much for this one and just be see what
- 14:23he's got on the day. But when he ran that 5915, he
- 14:26then went on to run 2/05/08 at Boston, which is obviously like
- 14:30a record ineligible course. But the US record which you'll
- 14:35be chasing down in a couple of months time is 2/05/38.
- 14:40So I think this run, obviously it doesn't confirm anything, but
- 14:44it shows that he's there there about.
- 14:45The North American records 2 seconds faster than that.
- 14:50Yeah. So we'll be hoping to run, I
- 14:52guess, 3 seconds quicker than the American record.
- 14:54Quick one how irrelevant is A20K record in America where they're
- 14:58all like Miles and all? Yeah.
- 14:59And I thought, I don't know if it was when Kip Limo ran that
- 15:03silly time that he ran, but I thought some of those races will
- 15:07have the 20 K market measured. And so you can sort of run those
- 15:12records on route in 1/2 marathon.
- 15:15Like why would you have a stand alone race?
- 15:17Like you normally just run whatever you run for 20K on
- 15:21route to your 21K? Like why make that a race?
- 15:25Yeah, yeah. When they operate in miles it's
- 15:28so random. Like does any country have a 20K
- 15:32championships? Like where the Hell's it come
- 15:34from? Yeah, bizarre.
- 15:36But just to round off for the women's race was won by Aubrey
- 15:41Frenthwaite in 6536. So I guess that's worth a 68
- 15:47high from 1/2 marathon point of view.
- 15:50So that wraps up that one. Move it while staying in
- 15:53America, I guess this evening. Unfortunately, the race is yet
- 15:57to happen and will be just after our recording, but the New York
- 16:00Ave. Fifth Mile, which is a very
- 16:03prestigious mile, Rd. mile held point to point on one of the
- 16:07most famous streets in Manhattan in New York is happening.
- 16:12And in terms of a start list, we've got all the guys who were
- 16:16hoping to be in Tokyo but didn't quite make it, almost like the
- 16:20reserves. I mean, I'd love to be one of
- 16:23those reserves, so I'm not trying to trash talk them at
- 16:26all. I'm just trying to build a bit
- 16:27of a picture. A guest favorite would have to
- 16:30be Yarid Nagus. But he's up against some stiff
- 16:32competition, isn't he? How we even like Drew, Hunter,
- 16:37Hobbs, Kessler, Stewie's in there not but Kupertier like
- 16:42it's it's not like he's even though some people are missing
- 16:46for the world champs even that in a regular year is a pretty
- 16:49good lineup. Definitely.
- 16:50And as well who's on there is Henry Mcclucky, who was at the
- 16:54one of the meets you were at Owen and a scene on Instagram in
- 16:57the week he was kind of doing a post to say I'm unsponsored.
- 17:01Like wasn't asking for someone's take him on, but you know, that
- 17:04was the gist of it. He's formerly an Adidas athlete
- 17:07and now he's running 5th Ave. Mile in New York and had like an
- 17:11unreal season running like 730 odd for 3K and stuff and he
- 17:16can't get a payday. Actually, Nick Griggs is on that
- 17:19star list as well. He's the young lad from Ireland
- 17:21who has the park. Well, he had the park work run
- 17:24world record, so he's another one to watch out for.
- 17:28Yeah. So should be interesting to
- 17:29follow the results. So if as you're listening to
- 17:32this, unfortunately I haven't been able to tell you who's won,
- 17:34but give it a quick Google and you'll see.
- 17:37If if you were to just you know, who would you tip 123?
- 17:44Just a quick, quick guess. I would go Nagoos.
- 17:48I would go Hoey and Kessler. I'd go negus, Kessler, Hoey,
- 17:55I'll. Go negus Kessler, Tia No,
- 18:00actually, the goose. The goose hunter, Tia.
- 18:07Why not? Actually, I'm changing mine to
- 18:10Nick, Griggs, Negus and Stewie. Imagine that.
- 18:15And for the women, I guess, who's kind of like the favorite
- 18:18on that side of things, largely the the women are American
- 18:21athletes, I think, aren't they? Like I'm saying Raven Rodgers,
- 18:25AG Wilson, Rachel MacArthur, Heather McLean.
- 18:30Carissa Schweitzer, the 5K runner.
- 18:33I was trying to get some more context I guess to talk about
- 18:36this and was looking into the prize money and it hasn't been
- 18:40published publicly since 2021. But apparently in 2021 there was
- 18:465K U.S. dollars for the winner with a 10K US course record
- 18:51bonus which is held by Josh Kerr of last year 344 I think it was
- 18:58and Laura Muir for the women. 414.8 is also tied with Carissa
- 19:03Schweitzer. So I mean, these prizes from
- 19:072021, they're certainly not going to have decreased, are
- 19:09they? So you'd be thinking it's at
- 19:10least that. I think you can get really lucky
- 19:14with a tailwind. And was it?
- 19:17Was it last year that a boss was trying to go through an
- 19:21intersection or something and nearly hit them?
- 19:24Was that the day before and there was a 5K on at the same
- 19:28time? I think yeah, 5K the day before
- 19:31and it nearly light side swap the lead group.
- 19:33Yeah, or, or is that before? Is that the day before the New
- 19:37York Marathon? It's one, it's a precursor to
- 19:41one of either the 5th Ave. Mile or this because I think 5th
- 19:44Ave. Mile just is a straight race,
- 19:46whereas this it had some sort of loop.
- 19:48And yeah, they nearly got taken out by a bus and I think that
- 19:50might have doubled as they're like 5K road nationals or
- 19:53something. It was in New York.
- 19:55Yeah, it was in New York, in New Manhattan, I think.
- 19:58But this I think they normally have.
- 20:00Don't they have an incentive where if you're leading at
- 20:02halfway? You get a an amount of money,
- 20:06but then you still need to, I don't know if you have to break.
- 20:084 minutes might be the light for the men and there might be an
- 20:11equivalent time for the women. So someone's there's normally a
- 20:14Sprint at halfway and then that person's literally just
- 20:17sprinting against the themselves and the finish line to get the
- 20:21cash grab they chase, which is something to follow in addition
- 20:26to the winner. Would you say all these are put
- 20:29up in a hotel like in New York? Because surely that's an
- 20:33expensive. Yes, a big start list.
- 20:36So we're, we're looking at what, 25 people, men on the men's and
- 20:40women's elite list. Yeah, and I think you're there's
- 20:45one English girl, so all of them are American on the women's
- 20:47side, except Alex Miller. I'm pretty sure she's from the
- 20:50UK. So short results around this
- 20:52week. So moving on to the news items
- 20:55then on Australia somewhat controversially confirm their
- 20:59teams ahead of next week's World Championships earlier last week.
- 21:04It feels like a lifetime ago because I guess as soon as I
- 21:08seen it come out on Instagram, I screenshot of it and put it into
- 21:11the clubhouse to get people's thoughts.
- 21:13And I was like, shit, I need need some time to digest this,
- 21:17what this means. And then thankfully, like people
- 21:19were picking out the key points. So I guess in terms of 800
- 21:24meters, team was Abby Caldwell, Claudia Hollingsworth and Jess
- 21:28Hull. So that was interesting that
- 21:30Jess kind of chose to double there.
- 21:33I didn't personally see that one coming.
- 21:35I'm not sure people had spoke of it prior either.
- 21:37Yeah, I missed that until then, to be honest.
- 21:40And so I left her out of my prediction that I will talk
- 21:44about in a little bit, which is maybe a miss because I suppose
- 21:48when I was looking at the 800 meters, Keely Hodgkinson's
- 21:53probably like a clear number one favorite.
- 21:56But then after that, maybe it's a little bit open in the 800, do
- 21:59you think? I would say so, yeah.
- 22:00And I guess that's kind of what's the Jess's decision here,
- 22:03isn't it? I think and versus the 5K, if
- 22:08you look at because she's won an Olympic medal, so you assume her
- 22:12goal now is to try and win championship medals.
- 22:14And so we, we're, and she ran Grand Slam track, which was as
- 22:20an 815 hundred. So she's probably targeted a lot
- 22:22more 815 hundred meter work over the course of the last six
- 22:26months. But like the 5K, the women's 5K,
- 22:29the top four, I think are all pretty like that's pretty
- 22:33stacked. So you can understand why she
- 22:36chose what she chose. I think for the 800, you've got
- 22:40Georgia, Hunter, Bell and Keely. I think they're nearly 2 shoe
- 22:44wins to to meddle, and then that last place is sort of up for
- 22:47grabs, which Jessel can probably visualize yourself getting.
- 22:51Yeah. So I was trying to figure out
- 22:53kind of like where this come from or like how it's come to.
- 22:57And in terms of like the rankings, Abbey Caldwell and
- 23:00Claudia Hollingsworth were both at 1:00 and 2:00 in terms of
- 23:03like times run in the qualification period.
- 23:06And they were also one and two at nationals.
- 23:09So I guess from that point of view, they're kind of like a
- 23:12certainty. And then the third spot is left
- 23:15open because Sarah Billings, who potentially would have also been
- 23:21in this 800 meter team. And I think she's probably
- 23:25better at the 800 than she is the 1500.
- 23:28But she was pre selected in the 15 because of nationals.
- 23:33And then maybe she's looking at it and going, if I choose to
- 23:37double, then it takes away my competitiveness in the 15.
- 23:41So I'm not going to do the 8 as well.
- 23:43And Jess has gone, maybe I am strong enough to double and I
- 23:46fancy myself for a medal. So thank you very much.
- 23:49And that's then kind of led to a little bit of complication as we
- 23:53go up the distances. So 1500 meters.
- 23:55Then Sarah Billings, as I just said, pre selected Linden Hall
- 23:59and Jess Hall. They kind of make sense.
- 24:02Although when you look at the rankings, Georgia Griffith was
- 24:05also in there. So it was Jess from Linden from
- 24:09Georgia from Sarah. So Sarah's kind of pre selection
- 24:14from earlier in the year has somewhat complicated things
- 24:17because I guess as well recently she maybe hasn't been running as
- 24:21strong as some of the other girls, but she was already
- 24:24pending. That's the issue Australia face
- 24:26by having their nationals like so early on in the year, like so
- 24:29much can change within like the six months or however long it is
- 24:33between their nationals and and the World Championships.
- 24:37Like it's from one end of the year to the other.
- 24:38Whereas like most of Europe, their nationals were literally a
- 24:41couple of weeks ago. So like you're sort of on form,
- 24:44you're peaking, whereas poor Aussies have to peak twice.
- 24:47Yeah, it's just hard with the bloody seasons being reversed
- 24:50from Europe, isn't it like. But like, Australia's warm the
- 24:55whole time. Like, why don't like, why don't
- 24:58they have their nationals a couple of weeks ago?
- 25:00Yeah, different to Ireland because I see you wearing a
- 25:04jacket again. It's getting colder here.
- 25:07The heat wave might officially be over.
- 25:10Actually, me and Andrew discussed that in the interview.
- 25:13So you've got a, you've got a big one coming for you here.
- 25:16We go, God, that's that's enough of a hook to get me so.
- 25:21He's been doing his heat train in Ireland.
- 25:23Does he? Yeah, he is.
- 25:26But no like it's not it's even you've more chance to run faster
- 25:29when it's cooler as well. So I think it'd benefit like
- 25:34performance and peaking trade the season.
- 25:37So I really don't get why, like Australia is a moment that's
- 25:41cold, but it's actually not that cold, let's be real.
- 25:44So yeah, just change your national dates.
- 25:47I guess it's because the the domestic track season is through
- 25:50summer, isn't it? So by now there hasn't been a
- 25:52track race for, don't know, almost six months or something
- 25:56for four months at least. And there's been all cross
- 25:59country races happening and then to kind of throw massive track
- 26:03meet would be cut amongst the pigeons to say the least.
- 26:06But there must be a better way of doing it.
- 26:09Just shuffle everything around like you should be going into
- 26:13cross country now. Like your cross country isn't
- 26:15cross country anyway so it's irrelevant when you have that.
- 26:18So just put your track on like when it's meant to be on.
- 26:22Track over winter for a 5K? Be nice.
- 26:24I mean, you remember the track in the middle of summer?
- 26:28How OK, it's so warm. It's still scraping party off it
- 26:34so. But yeah, I don't really
- 26:39understand like why? Anyway, the 5K is what caused a
- 26:44bit of contention and I don't know if this appeal has been
- 26:46resolved or not yet. And if it has, maybe it's been
- 26:49swept under the rug a little because I haven't had like a
- 26:52formal communication kind of clarifying who's in.
- 26:55So we've got Rose Davis, Georgia Griffith, Linden Hall and Lauren
- 26:59Ryan were all selected pending the outcome of an appeal.
- 27:04And I was also trying to figure out, because it doesn't say who
- 27:07the appeal was between and then who's going to be the likely
- 27:11winner of that appeal. So I think it's pretty clear
- 27:14that Rose Davis and Georgia Griffith are the two standouts
- 27:18here with. They both ran under the previous
- 27:21national record in London Diamond League.
- 27:23I think it was, wasn't it? They ran 1431 and 32.
- 27:28So then you think, OK, the appeal must be between Lyndon
- 27:32Hall and Lauren Ryan, but who was originally selected and who
- 27:37is kicking up a fuss that they weren't in the selection?
- 27:39Because Lauren Ryan recently ran was at 1439, something quite
- 27:44fast. I can't remember what Linden
- 27:48Hall's recent time was, so. Joy.
- 27:51So there's 4/4 of them selected. So I think because they it was
- 27:56literally getting to the point where Wales was about 10 days
- 27:59away and they hadn't confirmed the team.
- 28:02They put the team out but they hadn't resolve the appeal at
- 28:05this time, so four of them have been kinda communicated, but
- 28:09still only three will go. Damn, I didn't know this.
- 28:12The good thing is though, both. I mean all of those athletes, I
- 28:19think maybe apart from Rose, is that right?
- 28:23Who? I haven't got the list in front
- 28:25of me, but I know Linden Hall and Lauren Ryan are both down
- 28:32for another event, right? So whoever's unsuccessful, I
- 28:34think is still participating, right?
- 28:36In that so I reckon Linden Hall's been selected and she
- 28:40would be Dublin with the 50 in but it looks well, my hypothesis
- 28:45is that Lauren Ryan is appealing because she also wants to run
- 28:47the 5K as well as the 10K which she's been selected in because
- 28:52on paper Lauren Ryan has a faster time than Linden Hall.
- 28:55But like recently, Linden Hall's been incredibly competitive in
- 28:59the races that she's running. And to come here, would you say,
- 29:04like in their contracts they get bonuses for running two races or
- 29:08like why would there be such a big push to run both of them?
- 29:12Yeah, maybe that's a good question.
- 29:14Because you think like on paper, regardless of what event it is
- 29:18almost if you do want and focus solely on one, you're going to
- 29:22be more competitive than trying to balance 2.
- 29:24So why would people be going through the ordeal of appealing
- 29:28to get themselves a double? And like, especially like Lauren
- 29:32Ryan to do like the five K 10K, like Andrew was telling me, it's
- 29:36like 35° over there. So if you're to run like 10K and
- 29:4135°, you're totally screwing your chances in the 5K.
- 29:44Like there's no way you're covering time.
- 29:45So yeah, I don't know. I think the longer ones come
- 29:49fast as well. So like the between the 15 and
- 29:52the 8, the 15 comes first and between the 10 and the five, the
- 29:5510 comes first. That's why the 15 five works
- 29:58well because the 15, all the 15 is done before the five.
- 30:03So that way, like if it's the other way around, if the 5K was
- 30:05before the 15, I think you wouldn't see many people doing
- 30:08that double. But because it's after and
- 30:10there's a couple of days rest, it actually works out well.
- 30:12So we'll see what happens with the outcome of that, but also
- 30:16just to look at a side note on that as well.
- 30:19Modi Sky Ring who also ran the actual standard 1449, she
- 30:24obviously hasn't had a mention at all.
- 30:27And just referring back to the WA standards of like 50% come
- 30:31from run the standard, 50% from quota.
- 30:35Australia had five girls run the standard and one of them has
- 30:38missed out entirely, which is unfortunate for her.
- 30:40So that leaves the 10K then. So we have Izzy back.
- 30:43Doyle and Lauren Ryan have been selected there.
- 30:47So I think Izzy got in on rankings in the end, didn't she?
- 30:50She was kind of. To be honest, I think just about
- 30:53everyone in that women's list got in on like who ran that?
- 30:56That standard was crazy. It was a lot. 3020.
- 31:01I don't know who there would have been, maybe like 4 women
- 31:04that got in on that. Yeah, Remember you were tracking
- 31:07like where she was ranked on the list and stuff, though I wonder
- 31:11kind of how close in the end, but she obviously got in.
- 31:13I didn't, I don't think it moved every time I checked, sort of
- 31:16stayed, which sort of makes sense.
- 31:18I think it was sort of really hard for any other athletes
- 31:21because her performances were very like, scored a lot of
- 31:24points. And yeah, I'm not sure how many
- 31:28national 10 KS there were in those last few weeks that would
- 31:31have offered, you know, like you're running a 10K in summer
- 31:36in Europe, you know, likely in a Northern Hemisphere.
- 31:39Some are. And then even with the bonus
- 31:41points, I don't know if it, I don't think it moved, to be
- 31:43honest, in the road to Tokyo. I think she was still the same
- 31:45rank as what I saw before. Cool.
- 31:49So that leaves the marathon for the women, which is Sarah Klein,
- 31:52Vanessa Wilson and Tara Palm. I think Sarah Klein and Vanessa
- 31:56Wilson were kind of communicated a little while ago and Tara Palm
- 32:02was a late addition. I think maybe was that the space
- 32:05that Izzy had but chose not to participate in?
- 32:08Yeah, that's pretty cool. I think.
- 32:12I don't know yet. I don't want to mention, maybe
- 32:15should mention people's ages, but it's good.
- 32:17Tara's been running for a while and so it's cool to see, you
- 32:21know, making world champs teams go the marathon.
- 32:24Yeah, I didn't realize at the time, but when we were in
- 32:27Ballarat, when we sat around the table, was it like on race day
- 32:30afterwards and there's a few of us just chatting?
- 32:32One of the ladies there was Tara, wasn't it?
- 32:37Yeah, that's right. And like, yeah, so easy.
- 32:40And Tara, both South Australian runners.
- 32:42So yeah, pretty, pretty cool now.
- 32:45I think 1/2 of the three Ballarat races that were on that
- 32:50weekend. Also do you think maybe low key
- 32:53like it was SA and WA unite and against the east as like the
- 32:57smaller states it? Always feels a little bit like.
- 33:02That for the men's team. Then from the 800 meters we have
- 33:05Pete Ball, Luke Boys and Peyton Craig, which I think was pretty
- 33:08black and white. The 1500, geez, this is where
- 33:12the kind of contention comes in again.
- 33:14So Cam Myers was preselected from way back in April when
- 33:19nationals were, and then there was 2 spots to be filled from
- 33:24three potential candidates. So Adam Spencer and Jude Thomas
- 33:28ended up being selected with Ollie Hoare the unfortunate one
- 33:31to miss out. And it's, I guess you can
- 33:35probably argue all three cases and you can be there all day and
- 33:38there's no kind of clear resolution and everyone has
- 33:41their opinion on it and playing the diplomats at the end of the
- 33:46day, like someone's going to be unhappy because everyone feels
- 33:49like they have a realistic argument.
- 33:51Was there an appeal lodged for this?
- 33:52Like did Ali appeal or? So they didn't formally
- 33:56communicate so, but I think with kind of the delay in announcing
- 34:00the team, there's maybe been a couple of appeals that they've
- 34:03already resolved prior to releasing this.
- 34:05Like surely releasing the team this late is bad for like even
- 34:14the athletes. Like they I just can't imagine
- 34:18like Jude Thomas finding out last week that he's going to be
- 34:21going to the world's. Like he has to know that like a
- 34:24month out just to like mentally prepare and like sort how it was
- 34:27training. Like they all have.
- 34:29They have to know this well before no?
- 34:34Well, I'd say there's a few. There's a few conspiracy
- 34:36theories that say that they might have known as in like if
- 34:39you look at kinda the patterns of racing amongst them, like
- 34:43Olly Hall was racing all the way up until the cut off, I guess
- 34:47potentially trying to prove himself or prove his
- 34:51justification in the line up. Whereas the others were kind of
- 34:54less aggressive. Maybe had they been told as it
- 34:57stands, you're in. I don't know, I'm just
- 34:59theorizing. I.
- 35:00Feel like Adam Spencer for a lad would switch a like low profile.
- 35:04He's done well for himself, like he's after making the Olympics
- 35:08last year or Olympics in Paris and now a world champs, and he's
- 35:14still really, really young. Yeah, considering what he was
- 35:18based in the US for a while, maybe still is and he just kind
- 35:21of comes over, gets a space in the the major champs and then
- 35:25pisses off again he's. Doing well for himself.
- 35:27Because like in the conversation around this, the debate was
- 35:31always all Jude or Ollie. But I feel like between the
- 35:35three of them, like you can choose any 2.
- 35:37Like, yeah, it's such a tough, tough choice.
- 35:40And like, Ollie has like, championship experience, but
- 35:44like, dude, Jude, the world of good getting this championship
- 35:48experience. And there's no, like, everyone's
- 35:52allude. Well, Jude's obviously a winner,
- 35:54but you feel sorry for Ollie. I'm a bit confused like so,
- 36:00because I thought when there was that controversy around the
- 36:03women's marathon team for Tokyo, I thought Jess Stenson got
- 36:09selected. Part of the criteria was the
- 36:11like championship experience and doing well at major
- 36:14championships. And she'd won gold at a previous
- 36:18COM Games, which I thought may be counted in her favour.
- 36:21And Ollie won gold at a COM Games previously and he's run
- 36:26faster than Jude this year, right?
- 36:29So he's run faster, run a second faster, and he's previously been
- 36:34like a gold medallist at a fairly major championship.
- 36:40Yeah. I don't know.
- 36:40I don't. I wonder what other criteria was
- 36:44taken into consideration that meant that he wasn't found in
- 36:49favor of. Well, here, so interpret this
- 36:51because I don't get out because you can kind of hypothesize as
- 36:55much as you like, but you have to reference what they've used
- 36:58to make the decision to try and make sense of it, don't you?
- 37:00So it's got where more than three athletes are eligible.
- 37:04The committee will consider the following factors in no
- 37:07particular order of priority. Likelihood of a top 8 finish.
- 37:12So maybe you would say like Ollie wins on that, but then
- 37:16Jude's been actually competitive in races this year.
- 37:19So whether an athlete qualified via performance standard or
- 37:23ranking, but they both had the ranking and they both had the
- 37:27auto time demonstrate high level performance throughout the
- 37:31qualification period. So they're all kind of quite
- 37:35ambiguous because yeah, Ollie's run faster, but then more
- 37:38recently he's been slower. It goes on.
- 37:41Proven ability to peek at major championships, you would say,
- 37:44hands down. Ollie obviously wins on that.
- 37:47Proven ability to meet or exceed qualification level performances
- 37:50during international competitions.
- 37:53Participation in the 2025 track and field championships, which
- 37:57they both did. And then this is the last one,
- 38:00which basically says regardless of everything prior, we're just
- 38:04going to do what we want anyway. And this is kind of what causes
- 38:07the controversy and leads to conspiracy theories because it
- 38:10says any additional factors deemed relevant by the selection
- 38:14committee in consultation with National Federation General
- 38:17Manager High Performance. So that one just says we can do
- 38:22what we want essentially. Yeah, hard to make sense of.
- 38:26Like, I think the I don't know. And This is why.
- 38:32So in this example, there was always going to be a winner and
- 38:35a loser. But say when you have the US
- 38:38trials, like how? How seemingly is it unfair for
- 38:43Yaredna Goos and Josh Howey? But they lost.
- 38:46And so they sort of walk away like it was what they it wasn't
- 38:50outside their control. Whereas this feels a little bit
- 38:53outside of their control, an athlete's control.
- 38:57It's left up to sort of an ambiguous selection process,
- 39:00which just doesn't sit well. No, I agree.
- 39:04Like you've run faster than someone this year and you've
- 39:08previously won gold. I don't know, surely you'd be a
- 39:12bit filthy? And he actually finished higher
- 39:15than him at nationals this year as well.
- 39:17Strange, like the American trials just take all this
- 39:21bullshit out of it. Just one, two and three go.
- 39:24Like Yardley, Goose can cry all he wants, but he didn't show up
- 39:27so. Yeah, and maybe even talking
- 39:30about the hit, you know, two or three weeks out from a major
- 39:33championships. It's the same with like a so
- 39:36sometimes for world champs cross country, they run a selection
- 39:41race ahead of that which is not the same as national cross
- 39:44country because of the timing difference.
- 39:47To your point point, Owen, can you not just have a selection
- 39:51selection race? Is Australian athletics perhaps
- 39:53getting to the point where it's deep enough to warrant its own
- 39:56selection races, but maybe it doesn't need to piggyback off
- 39:58the national championships? Yeah, I'm like you'd wonder
- 40:02actually, like what's Ollie doing now?
- 40:04Because like, he should be really be doing that New York
- 40:07Mile, but he's not even down for that.
- 40:10So you wonder, you just feel for him, to be honest.
- 40:13He's had a had a rough year in this.
- 40:16Sort of like the cherry on top. And that's what I'm saying with
- 40:19like kind of Adam going under the radar in being selected or
- 40:23like assumed to be worthy of his place.
- 40:27He's run the slowest of them all this year.
- 40:29He's run 332.88 and Ollie has run 1.71 point 6 seconds faster
- 40:36than him. Which is massive.
- 40:39But didn't he win nationals? No, I can't.
- 40:42But Adam was the only one to, like get out of his heats in the
- 40:45Olympics, wasn't he? So I think that kind of weighs
- 40:48heavily for him. And he won nationals prior last
- 40:51year, maybe. Yeah, it was parasite.
- 40:54But yeah, it's hard to kind of draw a solid conclusion from it,
- 40:58but hopefully the ones who have been selected to justify their
- 41:00selection and run well anyway because that will kind of settle
- 41:04it all. Otherwise, the it'll stare back
- 41:08up again, won't it? So last item on the news agenda
- 41:11then was the that Kenya have bid for the.
- 41:16Whoa, 5K big set needs a shout, Yeah.
- 41:20I just got too excited with the all this Australian 1500 stuff
- 41:26and decide to skip the rest of the men's team.
- 41:28Yeah, sorry. So 5K, we've got Seth O'Donnell,
- 41:32Jack Rayner and Kai Robinson being selected.
- 41:35Go on, Owen. Like you have to take your hat
- 41:38off to set. O'Donnell went over to Europe,
- 41:42tried to run all the 5K races over there and he couldn't even
- 41:47get in the best ones. So like if there's another
- 41:50really good athlete, the Belgian guy, John Heyman, and he was in
- 41:55the like. So he's been to Olympics and
- 41:57all, and he could only get into races paced at 1310.
- 42:01And ideally the standard is 13 O 1.
- 42:04So you want to be in a race faster than that.
- 42:06So like Seth had no hope of getting into any of them fast
- 42:09races, but he's after putting himself about got onto some
- 42:12super fast 3K races. And yeah, he's got through on,
- 42:17he got through on the points, wasn't it?
- 42:20Yeah, it's actually mad that he's got in because he didn't go
- 42:23to Europe for a little while either.
- 42:24Like the season was well on the way.
- 42:26He's kind of had to like take the second string of races and
- 42:30he's managed to get the job done, so fair play to him.
- 42:33Then there's no man gun. What sets?
- 42:36MPB 1309 no 1413. 14 yeah, like Genie Mac, fair play.
- 42:44Don't forget an end like that is like you look at Jack Rayner,
- 42:48he's 5th. He's third.
- 42:49No 1259 or something. Kai Robinson is like a low 13 as
- 42:55well. If not, did he break 13 and then
- 42:57since? They're like he did.
- 42:59Sets 13, I think it's 1312 or something like that, like that.
- 43:03Is he done the maths? And yeah, just fair play to him.
- 43:08Fair play. Yeah, whoever's, because
- 43:10obviously he was like, all by himself up until when he got
- 43:14picked up at some point this year.
- 43:15So whoever's been guiding him in terms of like, getting him into
- 43:18these races and like telling him kind of what he needs to do to
- 43:22get himself qualified. Like, they've done a good job,
- 43:24haven't they? Because as you can see, it's
- 43:26just a minefield. Like, how are you supposed to
- 43:28concentrate on training and getting yourself in shape to run
- 43:32well and then also like navigate this qualification process and
- 43:37getting into races and stuff like must be so hard.
- 43:41Stressful when it's your like job and then you've got
- 43:45organizations like UK Athletics that don't even let you go.
- 43:47It's fucking bullshit. Yeah, especially when it's your
- 43:51job because you might be thinking of I can go and run
- 43:54this race and maybe pick up an easy win and get a couple of
- 43:57grand, but then this race would be better for me.
- 44:00Looking at qualification for a championships in like 18 months
- 44:03time. The men didn't select any for
- 44:05the 10,000 meters, but they did select Andrew Buchanan, Tim
- 44:09Vincent and Liam Burden for the marathon.
- 44:11So I don't think still any more updates on Andy, but we'll see.
- 44:16What did Liam Boudin run take qualify?
- 44:20Did he break 210 I? Think so 2:00 and 9:00.
- 44:23So, yeah, as I was trying to jump ahead to before was that
- 44:26Kenya have bid for the World Athletics Championships in 2029
- 44:31and 2031. I guess say no more on that.
- 44:34We've kind of covered enough Kenya news in the past couple of
- 44:37months to know why that would be interesting or controversial.
- 44:40But another country in there is India, and they've also had
- 44:45their fair share of similar stories with Kenya.
- 44:48I just can't see Kenya ever getting it because of the
- 44:51altitude and it would just mess up so many.
- 44:54It would be fair runners who never went altitude before.
- 44:57They've hosted World Cross and Mexico City.
- 45:00I think that's where like a long standing Australian was before
- 45:04the 200 meter record was from Mexico City back in God, when
- 45:10was that like the 60s? I think that's when the
- 45:15Australian 200 meter record was set because I think airs thinner
- 45:18up there. So good for the sprints.
- 45:20I got that wrong. Lambert has run 210.
- 45:23Still pretty fast. I think London is also one of
- 45:27the candidates for these next couple as well, so hopefully
- 45:30London does well there. The next one is actually in
- 45:33Beijing and China 2027. That'll be fun.
- 45:37Yeah, throwback to 2008. Yeah.
- 45:41Bird's nest or something was it? Yeah, they called it the
- 45:44stadium. Yeah.
- 45:45All right. That's.
- 45:46Kenya's would be Kenya's would be held in Kipchoge Stadium.
- 45:49Do you know that one that everyone goes to?
- 45:51That's just a good track. So moving on to our Tokyo
- 45:55predictions. So embedded in the clubhouse
- 45:58this week, we're going to drop a link to a Google Form and that's
- 46:01going to be the invitation for all your listeners to get
- 46:04involved and play along in a similar vein to kind of fantasy
- 46:08fussy. We're going to be choosing our
- 46:10medal predictions for each of the 815 hundred 5010 thousand
- 46:15marathon for both the men and the women.
- 46:18And we've kind of set the form up so that all of the main names
- 46:22hopefully are listed there and you have an option to choose
- 46:27gold, silver, bronze. And how the format will work
- 46:31will be you get one point if you correctly predict that an
- 46:34athlete will get a medal, but you don't get the medal right.
- 46:38And you get 2 points if you correctly predict the actual
- 46:41medal that they win. And whoever wins at the end of
- 46:44the championships will be subject to a prize, which we're
- 46:48just trying to iron out the details of.
- 46:51But we can be certain it's going to be a brand of shoes.
- 46:56We're just trying to confirm what that brand will be.
- 47:00No and or I think you are going to get a coffee and a croissant.
- 47:04No for the winner. If they're in Perth, coffee and
- 47:07croissants or no one, we'll pay it forward for you.
- 47:12Do you 2 still know the WA running podcast?
- 47:15Some big shells actually. Yeah, fuck.
- 47:19All right. Lost a bit, Adam.
- 47:24The Bunbury Marathon we got, we'd put aside money for that
- 47:28and then Ryan went the wrong way and we'd that we'd miscounted
- 47:32our winnings from that race. Wait, remember the remember Ryan
- 47:36went down and did the Bunbury 5 waters instead of the Bunbury 3
- 47:39waters and. Wait, me doing that has no
- 47:42relevance to this composition? Oh, this is this debt.
- 47:47Money gone missing is sort of easy.
- 47:50Double funds that we had to, you know, reallocate.
- 47:53Well. That's even more in debt.
- 47:56Yeah. If that's the case, those $1000
- 48:00that you wouldn't have gone missing as well.
- 48:03They nearly did, actually. Matt, fortunately, Matt's a
- 48:08clubhouse member, so he's sort of he, he came through with the
- 48:13goods. See, you've frowned me off.
- 48:15Now I've forgotten where I was up to in terms of telling them
- 48:17how how to play the game. Well, you joined the clubhouse.
- 48:21How do we join the clubhouse? Because even do you have to
- 48:23download an app? Is that true?
- 48:25Yeah. So it operates a lot better on
- 48:27the app, but you can use it in browser.
- 48:29So if you navigate to easy double clubhouse dot circle dot,
- 48:33SO you can sign up for free or you can sign up as a supporter
- 48:37and then optionally help us out, but that's by no means a
- 48:40requirement. And then you will find the
- 48:43Google form in there and next week, not next week because the
- 48:48Learning have been one or two races by then, but the second
- 48:51episode from now, we'll communicate a bit of a live
- 48:53standings because it'll be like the halfway point and no one
- 48:57will be getting ridiculed if you get in a shit amount of points
- 49:00because it's a bit of a lottery and a minefield.
- 49:03As you'll figure out, it's quite, quite the guessing game
- 49:06once you get into it. So yeah, just a bit of thought.
- 49:10How about we do? The loser has to buy the pair of
- 49:13shoes for the runner. You're the winner.
- 49:17I'll pay for that. I only have to beat you 2.
- 49:20Let's do it. Don't mind a punt.
- 49:26And what what I also wanted to say was that everyone who enters
- 49:30will go into a free prize draw. So you don't have to win, you
- 49:33don't have to finish second, you just have to enter for some
- 49:36nutrition. And we're thinking a pillar
- 49:39magnesium along with some Bix gels will be the prize for that.
- 49:44And literally all you have to do to enter is enter and it'll be a
- 49:48random selection. The point with this is that if
- 49:52you share it on your story, you will get bonus entries so that
- 49:57your name will be entered five times rather than once.
- 49:59So do you download the Circle app and then can you register
- 50:02that way or not? I just know I've got the circle
- 50:05app. You're in there.
- 50:09Yeah, I'm just, I'm just, if you're like me, I think I
- 50:12struggle to join. I'm just making sure, do you
- 50:16download the app or not or you don't need to?
- 50:19I think download the app, yeah. Then you register online and you
- 50:23then click through the app. Gotcha, gotcha.
- 50:27And toll free, the app doesn't cost the club host doesn't cost.
- 50:30And then there'll be a Google link inside because I've done
- 50:33the Google link. So I can, I'm going to go, are
- 50:36we going to release our predictions now so people get a
- 50:39scoop? Yeah, we're going to talk
- 50:40through them. So do you want to tell us what
- 50:43where you've gone? You walk us through it and I'll
- 50:45give you mine. Sure.
- 50:48Well, first of all, you asked for a time for the women's
- 50:51marathon. In the event of a tie.
- 50:52Do you want me to disclose that or do I keep that one up my
- 50:56sleeve? Maybe keep that up your sleeve
- 50:58as a differential. All right, won't give that away
- 51:03just in case someone goes with these because they're good
- 51:05guesses. So men's 800, I've gone
- 51:10unsurprisingly, Emmanuel when Yoni for the win, winning
- 51:15everything at the minute. Marco Arop, did he win Olympic
- 51:18gold or where was he at? He was thereabouts, wasn't he at
- 51:22Paris? Gone him for silver And I've
- 51:25gone the given our affiliates, the easy double affiliates of
- 51:31JB. I've gone with Max Bergen as the
- 51:34bronze medalist. What about you guys?
- 51:36OK, I've gone similar. I've gone I've changed it a
- 51:42couple of times. I've gone begging to win when
- 51:45you're new 2nd and look and how stared.
- 51:48I think I've jumped on the hypertrain a little bit, but
- 51:51here's my logic. So when you're new has looked
- 51:56unbeatable all year as you say. However he only beat Bergen by
- 52:00no point nought 5 at the Diamond League final and when your news
- 52:05been racing all year since Grand Slam track, whereas Bergen's
- 52:09coming a little bit later to the party.
- 52:12So maybe he can find that point nought 5 up his sleeve
- 52:16somewhere. What about you on?
- 52:18I'm just doing here now. I done.
- 52:20Donovan Brazer, the comeback engage, Yeah, and Wunyoni second
- 52:26and reckon Sujai. I hate him, but yeah for him.
- 52:31Third. Yeah, I feel like.
- 52:34Yeah, we all know. Very possible.
- 52:36Do we do do the women's 800 whilst we're here or do we go
- 52:39men 15? We can it just.
- 52:44Whichever. In that order in the Google.
- 52:46Map. Yeah, yeah.
- 52:46Now you go Google. All right, I have gone who?
- 52:51I mean, I think we're we'll see what you say, but who is
- 52:56currently the I think the now the red hot favorite in Laros
- 52:59for gold. I've gone Josh Kerr for silver
- 53:02and Faneuil Kovich, the 18 year old Kenyan phenom, as the bronze
- 53:09medalist. And any logic or yeah.
- 53:13Oh, logic is Laros kicked home like out kicked everyone in 329,
- 53:20which is silly, silly fast. Did you listen to the science
- 53:24sports podcast this week? Those guys love they're pretty.
- 53:30I really like listening to them, but they they're sort of on
- 53:33Laros as well. I feel like it's a bit of a
- 53:36common thread. I probably disrespected Jacob
- 53:40and Hawker in that, but yeah, just feel like you I, I don't
- 53:43know, I struggle to go past La Ross.
- 53:45I feel like he's not only is he running fast, but he's closing
- 53:48right out races. Josh Kerr I feel like always
- 53:51peaks for major championships really well.
- 53:54And so I feel like whilst he's been beaten by La Ross and
- 53:58Koich, I think I just feel like he always peaks really well.
- 54:01And then Koich is sort of been in form.
- 54:04So I just feel like Jakob's probably a dark horse as well,
- 54:09but he's either boom or bust, so.
- 54:11I feel like putting from Yakob will win or he won't play or he
- 54:15won't play, yeah. Yeah.
- 54:17And so and I don't think he wins.
- 54:18So I've left him off. Yeah.
- 54:19And so I have gone for Josh Kerr to get gold.
- 54:26Then I went for Reynolds Chariot, Timothy's little
- 54:30brother. I Reynolds going to get second
- 54:33and then Laros third. Actually not.
- 54:36Laros isn't getting it. Andrew Kostkin's getting third.
- 54:39Yeah, it's all in. He's been converted as of
- 54:42yesterday. Must have been some good
- 54:43training talk. Tanya, listen up.
- 54:47Irish Irish hate Wave is just got the final adaption he's
- 54:51needed. It's very similar to the heat in
- 54:55in Japan. So yeah, watch out.
- 54:57Feel like the this podium, it could be, it's 3 of potentially
- 55:01like 6 or 7 and then it's any combination as well, isn't it?
- 55:04Like there's literally no clarity.
- 55:07But I've gone with hocker, Laros care.
- 55:11So I was just trying to envisage it in my head how it's going to
- 55:14go. Hocker and Wellcare's going to
- 55:17make the first move. He's going to try and drag it
- 55:19out from like 5-6 hundred meters.
- 55:22Hocker's going to go with him. He's going to think there's the
- 55:24race and then Hocker will be care and pull away from him and
- 55:29then Laros will race the rest of the field and he'll close that
- 55:33hard that he'll get past care when he's tying up as well.
- 55:36The commentary from the Science Spot podcast that Ross Tucker,
- 55:44they were sort of saying, I think they were sharing some
- 55:46stats about like just how fast, like how many people are under
- 55:50330 now. Like the the game sort of
- 55:52changed and I think the last time where there was maybe like
- 55:55one person under 3/30 was back in 2019.
- 55:59And that one person was Timothy Chariot.
- 56:02And he could sort of go gun to tape back then because he was
- 56:06sort of just so much better than anyone else.
- 56:08He could sort of just front runner and sort of the advantage
- 56:12of front running was because he was so much fitter, it didn't
- 56:17necessarily matter. Whereas now if it's a lot
- 56:19closer, I think there's the sort of meta, you know, like the game
- 56:23changes because if you're going to now sort of set tempo for
- 56:26everyone and you're not materially fitter than them,
- 56:30then you're basically diminishing your chances of
- 56:32winning. So it's sort of not advantageous
- 56:34to do that. So I don't know.
- 56:37I yeah. So I wonder if perhaps the race
- 56:40is not running sub 330 pace. Perhaps, you know, maybe it's
- 56:44run more like 331, three, 32, which is just enough to bring
- 56:48other people into the race, which would make it quite
- 56:51interesting. I think it opens it up again,
- 56:53but the way Lara's closed, I still think it's him.
- 56:56But I wonder if someone's going to go at a suicidal pace, like a
- 57:01really fast pace this year. I wonder it might be a bit
- 57:03different. There's so many different
- 57:04dynamics and I think that's like the exciting thing.
- 57:07You just don't know how it's going to play out.
- 57:11Wouldn't you love to be like kind of in on some of the
- 57:14conversations between the athletes and the coaches in
- 57:16terms of how they're thinking with the race will best suit
- 57:20them, in terms of tactics, what to do?
- 57:22If you went someone like just as a complete roughy, let's say
- 57:26it's a sitting kick, you know like what it was 2016 Olympics
- 57:30like Centrawitz type race. Would you anyone out like real
- 57:36rough that you might throw in? I've lost my long list.
- 57:39I'm just looking at my 3 picks now.
- 57:40I'll throw a few names like Jonah Koich who won US track and
- 57:44field, Ethan Strand, Nordass, Falcon, Ghoulie, Reynold
- 57:49Chariot. Because the Americans like that
- 57:52Ethan Strand, there's a closer, don't they?
- 57:54Yeah. Even though he's like everyone,
- 57:56Yeah. Even The Ethiopians, Germa
- 57:59nibret at a zoo, I don't know they could be.
- 58:02Looking at the depth, there's going to be a few names who miss
- 58:05out on the final, isn't there? Yeah, and that's probably some
- 58:08of these like real kickers maybe just don't get through the heats
- 58:11and semis. Yes, they'll probably be pretty
- 58:13honest to start off with, won't they?
- 58:15Like people will be making sure they're through, the kickers
- 58:18will be wanting it to be slow anyway.
- 58:20What have you got for the the 5000?
- 58:22This is where I started to struggle a little bit I think.
- 58:25This race is so stacked. Yeah, I've gone Jacob Fisher
- 58:33Young. No African.
- 58:34And I thought that was going to be yeah, that was going to be my
- 58:37talking point after the race was just what a turn up sort of the
- 58:41African dominance of and really like Ethiopian dominance.
- 58:44Like when's the last time an Ethiopian didn't medal in the
- 58:47Olympics or world champs in A5? Ki Reckon it'll be a while,
- 58:50surely. But that's my yeah, it's my
- 58:53spicy take. I'm going for Jacob Gold, Nico
- 58:58Young Silver and Laros Bronze, even though I feel bad not
- 59:03picking your man Andres Almagrin.
- 59:06The key could be there thereabouts, but yeah, I don't
- 59:10know. No African representation
- 59:12either. Now they're washed.
- 59:13So I'll bring them into play. I'm still saying Jakob's going
- 59:16to win. I've got is it Mahari Berian?
- 59:19Mahari, second and Fisher, third.
- 59:23Mahari Dutch up like 17 or 18. He's so young, he looks like a
- 59:28kid. We're saving all the Kenyan or
- 59:30all the Africans for the 10K. Yeah, well, they've all moved
- 59:33up. I don't know what happened.
- 59:34Are you? I think one of the hard things
- 59:37to like try and navigate when you're trying to make these
- 59:39picks as well as like so many of them are Dublin and you're
- 59:42trying to, if you overthink it, I guess it just gets too
- 59:44complicated. Just got a look at it, see who
- 59:47you think's the best athlete. But I was getting lost in which
- 59:51people are Dublin and which events coming 1st and which
- 59:54they'll be better in because of that.
- 59:55So the 10K I'm actually just was trying to furiously Fact Check
- 1:00:00something but. I'll go first, I'll go first.
- 1:00:03Brilliant. So I've got Kajal Chat to
- 1:00:06finally get a gold medal. I've got Arugawe to get silver
- 1:00:14and then Andres Almagrin to get to get bronze and Hampton
- 1:00:22Samuels running in it. Yeah, he's on the quota on World
- 1:00:26Athletics and he's in bold. So I mean, I don't really know
- 1:00:30how to cross check the Eritrean picks, but I've taken that as
- 1:00:34gospel, so. I doubt Rory Linklater is going
- 1:00:37to double the 10K on the marathon or Woody.
- 1:00:40I don't think he's doing the marathon.
- 1:00:43Oh, is he? Not because Cam is, but I'm not
- 1:00:46sure they have more than one pick, but maybe I'll say mine
- 1:00:51and you you check if he is. So I've gone Aragawi Cajalcha.
- 1:00:56I think this is an Ethiopian triple Aragawi Cajalcha and
- 1:01:00Mahari. So the guy I picked in the 5K as
- 1:01:02well. So yeah, Ethiopian dominance
- 1:01:07there IMO. DNF.
- 1:01:09You figured out your facts. I haven't, but I'll just go with
- 1:01:13what I've what I've thought to be facts but I didn't properly
- 1:01:16check them so I've gone Fisher lobalu or lobalu and kajolcha.
- 1:01:27That's my 123. Lobalu must be an outsider
- 1:01:30there. He's obviously a good athlete,
- 1:01:32but. He was who I was trying to Fact
- 1:01:34Check, trying to see what he's recent.
- 1:01:38I thought I'd remember him having a good recent
- 1:01:41performance. Is that am I just making that
- 1:01:44up? I remember, excuse me, hearing
- 1:01:47like so much of him last year. Was it in the lead up to the
- 1:01:49Olympics and stuff? He was kind of what, what were
- 1:01:51you saying last week on a heater?
- 1:01:54But he seems to have gone a little bit quiet this year.
- 1:01:57He's obviously got himself qualified though.
- 1:02:00Yeah, I'm trying to work out where I pulled it from.
- 1:02:02Somewhere this could be. Yeah, this could be a misstep.
- 1:02:07Anyway, let's time will tell. I don't think Rory Linklater is
- 1:02:12selected at all. Red herring by Ryan in the
- 1:02:14Google Sheet. Yeah, mate.
- 1:02:16Well, it's bloody mine failed. Them.
- 1:02:18So we ended up getting the shoes.
- 1:02:20It's clever, actually. You know, when you, when you go
- 1:02:23to the, the World Athletics list and you think, OK, the top three
- 1:02:29Ethiopians and Kenyans will be the choices, but now you go to
- 1:02:33the actual team selection and they've chosen like 5th, 6th and
- 1:02:387th. So there was a lot of hard work
- 1:02:42has gone into this Google form. So please everyone make make
- 1:02:45good use of it. And I've, I've given myself an
- 1:02:49out with the other box at the bottom.
- 1:02:51So if you if you pick someone who's not on there, then just
- 1:02:54use that and messages. Well, we'll come to that
- 1:02:56shortly, I think. If I missed.
- 1:03:02Let's not spoil the surprise men's marathon.
- 1:03:07I've gone Abdi Negay for gold Galletta from Ethiopia second
- 1:03:14and to Kelly to Kelly from Ethiopia third.
- 1:03:19We're speaking about this offline, sorry, offline before
- 1:03:23when we about like these names not being like kind of major
- 1:03:26major names. But then what?
- 1:03:28If you look into their backgrounds, they've still like
- 1:03:30podium that majors and run 2O22O3.
- 1:03:33Like these African marathoners are just obscene.
- 1:03:37There's so many of them running so fast and you just don't know
- 1:03:40them. Yeah, like I went for Vincent
- 1:03:43Ngoetch for gold just because I feel like Ngoetch is a that name
- 1:03:49is like one medal. So then I'm going for Crippa
- 1:03:55from Italy in 2nd and Clayton Young in 3rd.
- 1:04:01Yeah, nice. And I've gone Galata tequila and
- 1:04:05the male caress there was. The bronze medal is definitely
- 1:04:09up for grabs I think, isn't it? Hence Clayton Young.
- 1:04:13So yeah, I've just gone with the UK roots there for a meal.
- 1:04:16So that's the men's move into the women's.
- 1:04:18So women's 800 I've gone Keely Hodgkinson gold, Audrey Werro,
- 1:04:25Swiss athlete silver and Segay de Guma bronze.
- 1:04:31Confession, I may have, I may have consulted bet 365 with with
- 1:04:38this research because the first few events there's, there's
- 1:04:43betting markets available, gamble responsibly.
- 1:04:47Everyone but Keely is paying I think $1.10 currently.
- 1:04:54So she's borderline unbackable. Yeah.
- 1:04:58Look, I may have gone 123 based on the 365 market, but what I
- 1:05:06wanted to know is I cannot see Jess Hull in here.
- 1:05:09So I do see here on that Australian list that you
- 1:05:14mentioned, it does say at the bottom a bit like the Google
- 1:05:18form others on request. So you can actually e-mail the
- 1:05:22betting agent if you want to get a get some action if we if we
- 1:05:26think we know something they don't.
- 1:05:28So we could get Jess at a good price if we think she's a chance
- 1:05:31for gold. It was not minor medals, but
- 1:05:35yeah, that's where I pulled those names from.
- 1:05:37I've put Keely for gold, Georgia Hunter Bell for silver, and
- 1:05:42Wurro for bronze. Similarly, I've gone Keely gold,
- 1:05:46Georgia Hunter Bell silver and Lillian Odira bronze.
- 1:05:50So I was looking at that wear out because I know that she's
- 1:05:53kind of been running well and we've like mentioned her a lot
- 1:05:56in the results. She's first, second whatever,
- 1:05:59running like one 56157 quite often.
- 1:06:02And when I was on her profile, she's ran so much this year.
- 1:06:06She done European and Weld indoors in March and then she's
- 1:06:10done European under 20 threes also in July.
- 1:06:14And I guess she's kind of tried to keep that form up until now.
- 1:06:19So she's done 26 races this year.
- 1:06:25But Georgia Hunter Bell is a three two in a head to head with
- 1:06:29her. So it's pretty touch and go, oh.
- 1:06:31Yeah, Bet 365 has. We're a second favorite
- 1:06:38bookmakers have have gone. I think with raw time they tend
- 1:06:42to not have as much insight. I think they just generally just
- 1:06:46correlate by time until people start lying.
- 1:06:48Lying bets. Oh, I'm sure the Bet 365 market
- 1:06:52traders and analysts will be tuned in now and shifting the
- 1:06:55markets. Well, they might at a minimum.
- 1:06:57Could you add to the list please?
- 1:07:01Preferably, Preferably at the same odds as Cloudier and Sarah,
- 1:07:05which is 501 to 1. If they do adder, let me know
- 1:07:10when I'll grab your money. Maybe it's A to be placed market
- 1:07:15as well. It'd be handy.
- 1:07:16Place. That's what I did look for that
- 1:07:18couldn't find it. Women's 1500.
- 1:07:23Surprisingly, I've gone with Faith, Kippy, Aegon for gold,
- 1:07:27Jess Hall for 2nd, and Chichi for bronze.
- 1:07:31I've gone Faith Kippy Aegon for gold and chip churcher.
- 1:07:38Is she good? She she's so so for contact.
- 1:07:43I mean, bet 365 haven't opened the market yet, so I can't
- 1:07:46confirm for sure, but she is who ran down Jess the other day at
- 1:07:52the Diamond League final and I think has won everything by one
- 1:07:56race she's been in this year or something like that.
- 1:07:58So. Yes.
- 1:07:59OK so I've got Faith Gold, Chip, Churcher Silver and Sarah Healy
- 1:08:06in 3rd. I knew you wouldn't.
- 1:08:08You could struggle to look past Healy.
- 1:08:10I knew you'd you'd you'd go there?
- 1:08:13Yeah. Have to, I'm only going to clean
- 1:08:15up in this. I've gone Kippy Aegon to win
- 1:08:18well, Ted G 2nd and Jess Hall third.
- 1:08:22You know, just quickly before we move on, when I was looking into
- 1:08:26this as well, like Kippy Aegon's dominance, I I'd almost taken
- 1:08:31for granted until looking into this.
- 1:08:33So she's 18 to 0 in head to heads against Jess Hall.
- 1:08:39I mean, I know she's a better athlete, but she's never ever
- 1:08:42lost to her in 18 meets. Yeah, it's not bad.
- 1:08:46Speaking of keeping the faith, I've kept faith in as the gold
- 1:08:50medalist for the five women's 5K and then I've called Beatrice
- 1:08:57Chibet for the silver and an all Kenyan treble with fair bronze.
- 1:09:02This the women's 5K? Yeah.
- 1:09:04So I've gone, yeah. Chibet for gold.
- 1:09:06She's set the record, hasn't she?
- 1:09:09She broke 14. So she's getting gold from a
- 1:09:13fake, a peg on silver and good at the guy in bronze.
- 1:09:20Yeah, Chibet's the robot who looked.
- 1:09:21Like she jogged 4800 meters at 14 flat pace and then kicked the
- 1:09:26last 200 to get 2 seconds under it, which is totally normal for
- 1:09:31runners to do that. Who who have a?
- 1:09:34Kenyan background with Rosa as their agents and.
- 1:09:41Say guy who picked for 3rd is the one that was in that race
- 1:09:44with Chibet was a cheat for 200 to go and then well and then I
- 1:09:49think it was it her record that it was getting currently getting
- 1:09:52sliced and diced. And so I think she just jogged
- 1:09:54it in when she got dropped. She actually could have ended up
- 1:09:58battering her. Own record, although obviously
- 1:10:00it would have been beaten, but yeah, she just spat a dummy out,
- 1:10:03didn't she? Yeah, and I think ran a. 1500
- 1:10:07the other day and didn't she go through in the first?
- 1:10:10She over, she overtook the pacemakers and ran the first lap
- 1:10:14in under 60 seconds over 1500, which is like women's world
- 1:10:19record is what is it? I don't know, 349 or something,
- 1:10:24That's 343 pace or something. She was 42 pace she was going
- 1:10:27through in so she's pretty wild. I think she's a reputation for
- 1:10:31like unconventional racing methods, so could be anything.
- 1:10:36This is the problem with her. She's down to double.
- 1:10:38The five and the 10 as well. So God knows how that's going to
- 1:10:42play out. Risky.
- 1:10:44Pick that one, Owen, but. I've also backed there and gone.
- 1:10:48Chiba kipyegon sagai gamblers. Oh, OK.
- 1:10:53So women's 10,000 meters. I've gone other for gold.
- 1:10:58Oh yeah, Hoover missed Chibet. Oh, fine.
- 1:11:02Maybe I should fix? This form before we go live.
- 1:11:07Oh, you. Keep keep that one up.
- 1:11:08Our sleeves might give us a chance to win.
- 1:11:10But yeah, I've gone Chibet for gold, Agnes Ningerdich for
- 1:11:16silver and say guy for bronze. I forgot I went say guy for
- 1:11:20bronze in the What about you guys?
- 1:11:25I'm going to go chibet gold. Chip and get itch.
- 1:11:28Silver and get itch. For bronze.
- 1:11:36Yeah, I have the exact same lineup as you, Dean.
- 1:11:38So I've picked chibet in my pics but I haven't put it on the
- 1:11:41form. That makes sense.
- 1:11:43Chibet get itch the guy much better you'll win this whole
- 1:11:47thing narrowing. There's a fix?
- 1:11:51I'm just. Getting a new pair of shoes.
- 1:11:55They'll. Go up on Marketplace because
- 1:11:56they're not being running. It segues nicely into training
- 1:12:02weeks, Ryan, And where do you so other?
- 1:12:06It says please message us to specify where's your message at
- 1:12:10the very end. Yeah, now you'll just have the
- 1:12:11message either in the clubhouse or the.
- 1:12:13Instagram and I'll make note because all the selections got
- 1:12:17downloaded or exported into an Excel file, so it can just
- 1:12:20update it at the bottom of that form.
- 1:12:23You can actually there's a free. Text field actually put in
- 1:12:25Chibet for gold and US size 9 just for Ryan Smith women's
- 1:12:32marathon's last race I've gone Tigs A Sefa for the win, Chip
- 1:12:42Cheecher for the silver and Kabete for the bronze yeah, I
- 1:12:47struggled here I didn't know any of these women I'd.
- 1:12:49Done a SEFA for gold chip Cheer cheer for.
- 1:12:54Silver. And Fenella McCormick for.
- 1:13:01Well, you're. Just throwing her points away
- 1:13:02there, haven't you? You want to open one up more
- 1:13:05than. One eye fun fact, my coach.
- 1:13:09Would have coached Fernando McCormick when she was a kid.
- 1:13:12She was younger. That's cool.
- 1:13:15So yeah, I know the inside scoop.
- 1:13:16And she's going to get a medal. Has she ran many marathons?
- 1:13:21She's sort of. Got quite the reputation for
- 1:13:23cross country, right? She's this is she's round 5
- 1:13:26Olympics I think. Something crazy like that, I
- 1:13:29think. Women's marathon?
- 1:13:31No So. She's don't like fighting a tank
- 1:13:33and all that. I think the last two have been
- 1:13:34marathon, OK. And so, yeah.
- 1:13:38Watch out. Yeah.
- 1:13:40OK. Well, if you haven't.
- 1:13:41Noticed in the Irish. Is like blandly patriotic.
- 1:13:48I've said a couple of things that have walked me into that
- 1:13:51that neighborhood. I can't remember what I've
- 1:13:53struggling to remember what I said the other day, but we might
- 1:13:57have had to edit it out. So yeah, no, I'm learning.
- 1:14:02Watch your back. I went Asafa Kabadde.
- 1:14:07Jeff Churchill And again, in case people kind of like looking
- 1:14:12at these names and they don't mean too much.
- 1:14:14So Asafa won London this year and bizarrely beat Saffan
- 1:14:18Hassan. And what's that Jeff Cosguy's
- 1:14:22first name? Jeff Cosguy.
- 1:14:23Anyway, yeah. And I think about they were one.
- 1:14:29She's won Tokyo back-to-back this year and the year prior
- 1:14:32running 2:15 and 2:16. And Jeff Church won London last
- 1:14:38year and she's 1 to 1 and head to heads with a Safa.
- 1:14:41So all pretty tight, depending on which angle you look at it
- 1:14:45from. Yeah, no, I won't comment on
- 1:14:47Fenola there even though. But it would be hot, so it might
- 1:14:50throw in some surprises. At least we don't go stealing
- 1:14:54other nations marathoners. Here we go.
- 1:15:02We I feel like Betsy Syena, Syena might be 1 to watch.
- 1:15:10Feel like something, something will happen.
- 1:15:11It's going to be hot. I don't know, but I couldn't do
- 1:15:17it. I just went with the three most
- 1:15:18obvious in that one. I can't believe I've just
- 1:15:22slandered the Irish and. I'm about to roll into YouTube
- 1:15:25Diaries and we're going to speak about the great Irish marathoner
- 1:15:29Steven Scullion. Just to clarify that I do love
- 1:15:32to edit the last five minutes out.
- 1:15:35Why? All right.
- 1:15:40Yeah, Steven Scullion Irish Marathon.
- 1:15:42Go. Yeah, I guess I.
- 1:15:46Can do a bit of AI can share my views in terms of his so Steve
- 1:15:50Scullion's like professional runner and marathoner has had a
- 1:15:55YouTube channel for a number of years now and sort of posts
- 1:16:00quite regular content, which is sort of follows his journey
- 1:16:04through athletics, but also is quite educational.
- 1:16:08Like he posts a like a mixture of vids just around training,
- 1:16:13training zones, training intensities, diets, you know,
- 1:16:20right like some of these race performances and some of the
- 1:16:24mental mental side of marathoning.
- 1:16:27And I mean, it's a pretty well put together rooster as well,
- 1:16:31right? So sort of is someone that I
- 1:16:34suspect it gets quite an audience.
- 1:16:36I think he's got like 150 K you should YouTube subscribers.
- 1:16:40So he it appeals to quite a wide market.
- 1:16:43And he's a guy that's sort of sharing his own running through
- 1:16:47his own sort of lens, but is pretty well accomplished and
- 1:16:53sort of just feels like someone that sort of improved over a
- 1:16:56long time through hard work and sort of shares his insights into
- 1:16:59how he got there. I've not actually engaged with
- 1:17:02his website, buthedoesoftenreferences@joggingroom.com.
- 1:17:08But yeah, I don't I, I, I, to be honest, I just consume a lot of
- 1:17:11his like his videos around gym work and training zones and just
- 1:17:16listen to his insights in terms of what he thinks is appropriate
- 1:17:19for marathon training. Is his kind of like set off he?
- 1:17:23Pretty much takes like loads of these buzzwords that are thrown
- 1:17:26around and almost like just dispels all the myth and rumors
- 1:17:29around them and actually breaks it down like what it means, how
- 1:17:32it should be used and stuff, isn't it?
- 1:17:34Yeah, it's like 20 to 30 minute video and.
- 1:17:36Hey, this is Zone 2. What he thinks it means and how
- 1:17:39he applies it to his training. You know, he's like, I run at
- 1:17:42this pace. It's important that my lactates
- 1:17:45at this I, you know, tend to run to heart rate.
- 1:17:49But you need to, you know, it sort of talks about how some of
- 1:17:52these methods are, how he applies them.
- 1:17:55You know, any sort of does a run or a workout and sort of lives
- 1:17:59the lives the science, which is really useful.
- 1:18:02It's also very raw like. There's videos of him like full
- 1:18:07on, like breaking down and like some of them are actually like,
- 1:18:10it's the other side are running like as a professional runner,
- 1:18:13like the stress you get put under.
- 1:18:15So yeah, it's just so raw and authentic what he puts out.
- 1:18:21He doesn't really hide. He actually has another he sells
- 1:18:24like running gear now, 26.2. I think that's the brand's name.
- 1:18:31But yeah, so he's doing very well for himself.
- 1:18:33But yeah, he's it's so like all the stuff he puts up on is so
- 1:18:37educational and it's really good to learn.
- 1:18:39How many Olympics would they have been to?
- 1:18:41Damn. Give me one second, I'll tell
- 1:18:43you now. Because he's a bit of an.
- 1:18:46He's not exactly like a masters athlete, but he's older, isn't
- 1:18:49he? It's kind of most of his career
- 1:18:51is behind them now. Yeah.
- 1:18:53And I don't think he's doing. He hasn't run much in a while.
- 1:18:56To be honest, well, I haven't seen him anyway.
- 1:18:58It's too cashed up off all the YouTube subscribers.
- 1:19:01By sounds of it, I genuinely remember like last year maybe
- 1:19:05I'll start going through his videos and was like almost
- 1:19:07taking notes and stuff. It's like some of the stuff
- 1:19:09because he's just like, as you say, so educational.
- 1:19:13It's almost like textbook, like you sat in a seminar, but like
- 1:19:16communicates it to you in a in a way that's like so applied.
- 1:19:20He's same birth here as me. Oh yeah, Korea.
- 1:19:24Korea's behind him. I think you've just been to. 1
- 1:19:29Olympics. Yeah, I think it might have been
- 1:19:31one because I think I remember him.
- 1:19:32Making like Doha world chance in 2019.
- 1:19:35And then he was on quite a quest to run the Olympic standard for
- 1:19:40Tokyo. And then he sort of, yeah, was
- 1:19:45really pushing to try and make the heart, heart, like get into
- 1:19:48the fear into the next Olympics and didn't make it in Paris.
- 1:19:52So. And that was when he was sort
- 1:19:54of, yeah, very open. We're sharing some of his
- 1:19:57troubles, right, like physical and mental.
- 1:20:01I think the brand, his brand dropped.
- 1:20:03On and then like they picked them back up after he won Dublin
- 1:20:07or came really well in Dublin or something like that.
- 1:20:09He had it really rough for a while.
- 1:20:11Yeah, he was an Under Armour athlete, wasn't he?
- 1:20:13Yeah, which is you don't hear many of them.
- 1:20:16Did they have the record for a while before that, Peter?
- 1:20:18Lynch guy? Yeah, he had two or nine.
- 1:20:22Something. Was his record but yeah, cool
- 1:20:25YouTube channel to surf through a lot there's.
- 1:20:27A heap of really good videos in there, All different things.
- 1:20:30Yeah, something different as well to like the.
- 1:20:32Usual style that we've been recommending.
- 1:20:34I guess most of them are kind of like vloggy style, aren't they,
- 1:20:38now? But here's, yeah, it's just
- 1:20:39something different. And credit goes to Matt.
- 1:20:43Jones isn't it for that recommendation?
- 1:20:46Yeah, for reminding us how we hadn't got there yet, he said.
- 1:20:49He's been waiting. So wait, no more math.
- 1:20:53And that's a good. Thing we we should start to.
- 1:20:56Kind of link all these up in the clubhouse and drop all the links
- 1:20:59to these channels so that there's kind of like a backlog
- 1:21:02of what we have spoken about South.
- 1:21:04One, we don't duplicate. And two, people can kind of like
- 1:21:07just quickly reference them, which rolls us into double
- 1:21:10trouble. And like I said last week, we're
- 1:21:13going to start to take the heat off ourselves with some of these
- 1:21:15because people are loving getting involved.
- 1:21:17So thanks to Liam Stocky for submitting this one and I'll
- 1:21:22throw it out there and you can let me know.
- 1:21:24Agree, disagree, different take on it.
- 1:21:28But he says the marathon being seen as the pinnacle of the
- 1:21:30sport is what's pushing people just getting into running into a
- 1:21:34further over faster mentality, which is a cop out for not being
- 1:21:38able to work on and improve different energy systems.
- 1:21:43So it got it got a bit of backing in the clubhouse.
- 1:21:46There's a few reactions and emojis of support and.
- 1:21:52I'll go. I'll go first to.
- 1:21:53Help you out. I can see where he's coming from
- 1:21:55like obviously these marathon times all have kind of like
- 1:22:00conversions in terms of what that means for a 5K, what it
- 1:22:03means for a 10K half marathon and so on with if not World
- 1:22:08Athletics points. Then if you use some of the
- 1:22:10calculators, it'll tell you like what the equivalent 5K time is.
- 1:22:14And let's take for example, a three hour marathon.
- 1:22:19That equates to, I don't know what it is, and I'm not going to
- 1:22:23say what I think it might be because it might offend people.
- 1:22:27But no, go on, go on. Well, a three hour.
- 1:22:30Marathon might. I don't know, I would say about
- 1:22:3818 minutes. What do you reckon?
- 1:22:40I haven't a clue. 25I. Don't know.
- 1:22:47You put in a calculator, I'll work it out.
- 1:22:49You do whilst I'm speaking. Yeah, For For.
- 1:22:51Interest. But yeah, so say if Owen had run
- 1:22:5518 minute 5K and I had run a 3 hour marathon, if they were
- 1:22:59deemed like similar, I reckon on the whole I would be looked at
- 1:23:04as the better runner because I'd run the longer distance.
- 1:23:09Whereas the 18 minute 5K is still like equally as good of an
- 1:23:14achievement. But kind of because it's not as
- 1:23:16long of a distance, people overlook it a little bit.
- 1:23:19And the more common thing now is like people getting into
- 1:23:23running. It's just like, Oh well, when
- 1:23:24are you going to do a marathon? When are you going to do a
- 1:23:26marathon? Like people are overlooking run
- 1:23:29fast 5 and 10 KS. But yeah, I don't know.
- 1:23:33What were your thoughts? I totally agree.
- 1:23:35Like as soon as you start. Running, you start training for
- 1:23:381/2 or a full marathon and like realistically, if you're trying
- 1:23:41to be a good runner, it's not the best way to go about it.
- 1:23:45Like like Liam said, like there's different energy systems
- 1:23:48and with the marathon, it's a lot of slow, monotonous miles
- 1:23:53where you're not really working on your sort of speed.
- 1:23:57Whereas if you worked on your speed first, you're just going
- 1:24:01to run a faster marathon long term.
- 1:24:03Like people just think of short term things where as if you're
- 1:24:08starting at running and you want to run a fast marathon, you
- 1:24:10should work on your speed first because the faster you get, the
- 1:24:14easier your marathon pace is going to feel.
- 1:24:16So yeah, for anyone starting running, you like work on your
- 1:24:21speed first. Like you can't just look at that
- 1:24:24like short term, like running is a long term game.
- 1:24:27Unfortunately you don't get magically good immediately.
- 1:24:30And so yeah, I actually respect people like.
- 1:24:34Yourself, though, and you haven't run a marathon, but I
- 1:24:36think it's good that, like, you kind of resist temptation to get
- 1:24:41caught up in like all the whirlwind of like hysteria about
- 1:24:45running marathons and stuff. And it's a deliberate approach.
- 1:24:49And I know there's a few other people out there as well.
- 1:24:51Don't think Liam has run a marathon.
- 1:24:53Yes. And there's obviously method,
- 1:24:56not to the madness, but there's a methodology behind it.
- 1:25:00So yeah, I think it's commendable.
- 1:25:02I feel like you're doing yourself an injustice of like.
- 1:25:05Like I'm not going to reach my full potential if I ran a
- 1:25:07marathon there next week. Like I could easily just do the
- 1:25:09marathon and run. I don't know why I'd run, but I
- 1:25:13know if I work on my speed and not a bit longer, I'm going to
- 1:25:17debut. My debut marathon is going to be
- 1:25:19a lot better. Yeah.
- 1:25:19So yeah, think long term I guess the the three hour example.
- 1:25:25I was trying to give. Might make more sense if I talk
- 1:25:27about myself, like if we take my marathon time of 227 high and
- 1:25:33whatever that equates to for 5K, it's probably around 50 and low,
- 1:25:37which is what I've run. But if I told someone both those
- 1:25:41times that the if you took a survey of 100 people, they'd
- 1:25:45probably be more impressed with the marathon time because it's
- 1:25:48like, wow, you've run a marathon in under 2 1/2 hours.
- 1:25:51But the 5K is almost like lost on people a little.
- 1:25:55I don't know. But Ryan, didn't you start out
- 1:25:57Was your very first race A? Marathon.
- 1:25:59Yeah. And what did you run 240?
- 1:26:025. Yeah, and now you're.
- 1:26:04Working on your speed and now you're down.
- 1:26:05To sub 2:30. So for example, did you manage
- 1:26:09to get an answer? Yeah, I was trying to throw your
- 1:26:12times in there to. Work that out as well, but he's
- 1:26:15looking at the odds on the best for.
- 1:26:17The women's marathon. Oh actually just ran out of
- 1:26:20money in my offset but. No, a three hour marathon
- 1:26:26equates to 480 points on the I double AF calculator and the
- 1:26:31same number of points for 5000 meters.
- 1:26:34This is for a man. For a man it would be different
- 1:26:38I think if you put in man or woman.
- 1:26:42Was 17 O 4 for 5K. So I was quite a bit off, maybe
- 1:26:52picking up Liam's points that people are just just disrespect,
- 1:26:55overplaying the marathon times, disrespecting the speed.
- 1:26:58But yeah, I, I don't know, like there was a period of time I
- 1:27:01remember running, say 10 years ago and the marathon was seen as
- 1:27:06something you just did when you got slow and you weren't like it
- 1:27:10wasn't seen that favourably. It was marathons weren't that
- 1:27:14popular. They were sort of seen a little
- 1:27:16bit like how some of like how some Rd. runners might see like
- 1:27:19trails and ultra runs, like they were sort of not really a thing
- 1:27:21you could race and not that popular a choice like like a
- 1:27:27runner would run a, a, a, a track race or a shorter road
- 1:27:31race because they were runners. And then if you'd more if you
- 1:27:33wanted to do something for fun, like marathon running wasn't all
- 1:27:37that trendy. To be honest.
- 1:27:38It's only like more recently where I think the birth of the
- 1:27:41Super shoe and as training methods have evolved and you can
- 1:27:44recover from them and, and train well for them and, and race them
- 1:27:48well. Like I think the marathon's
- 1:27:51become much more popular. But in terms of, you know, when
- 1:27:56we're talking about pinnacle of sport, like, yeah, they
- 1:28:00certainly have got more popular. And then just with the regular
- 1:28:03punter, like whenever you tell someone you run and if you
- 1:28:06hadn't run a marathon, they sort of look at you sideways.
- 1:28:08Oh, do you really run them? Like that's but I think that's
- 1:28:12always been the case, but that's where maybe the calculator is
- 1:28:16good at sort of cutting through some of the noise around optimal
- 1:28:19your own personal performances, which is your best, you know,
- 1:28:23performance as compared to all of your running.
- 1:28:26That's where that's sometimes helpful.
- 1:28:28Yeah. I don't know what it is, but the
- 1:28:29the running boom has. Obviously clearly had a major
- 1:28:33effect on Marathon and people's involvement in it, and it hasn't
- 1:28:37quite had the same effect on track.
- 1:28:40Like you don't see everyday runners doing track meets.
- 1:28:43Yes, maybe that will happen next and then maybe there'll be more
- 1:28:47respect put on Fast 5 and 10 KS. Actually, we're guiding Double
- 1:28:52Trouble. I asked Andrew for a double
- 1:28:55trouble and he gave me a very, very controversial 1.
- 1:28:59So Oh yeah, wait for that one. Wait for that 10.
- 1:29:04He reveals it in the interview. Yes, yes.
- 1:29:07Well, it it's not. I'm crazy, but I didn't.
- 1:29:10I didn't expect a comment. It's a good show.
- 1:29:13Yeah, that play. But I think in terms of.
- 1:29:16I think generally like agree with the sentiment that as you
- 1:29:19sort of go up in distance, you, you know, that that sort of
- 1:29:21ability to suffer, like, you know, those track sessions where
- 1:29:24you you're on your haunches and really trying to put in like, I
- 1:29:28agree with that sort of notion. But I think if you're trying to
- 1:29:31master the distances like Cam Levins mentioned, you know, like
- 1:29:37the difference between suffering for 800 meters versus marathon
- 1:29:40in terms of his experience, he finds those marathons when they
- 1:29:43don't go to plan, they're not whilst he's gone up in distance.
- 1:29:46That's not that's not an easy feat either.
- 1:29:48So I think it's like a like a mix, You know, it's sort of, I
- 1:29:53did think before none of us backed Cam.
- 1:29:55To get the sneaky bronze, did we pair of shoes on the line?
- 1:29:58No, no, no. Yeah, I don't know.
- 1:30:06It's probably a fair shout. It's probably pretty open.
- 1:30:09Was he on the list? Did you put him on the?
- 1:30:10He's on the list? Yeah, he's on the Yeah, I missed
- 1:30:12that. I mean, I put him. 2nd I mean
- 1:30:19it'd be pretty tough give him where he's come, where he's come
- 1:30:23from. I mean he is 4th from the last
- 1:30:25World champs which is probably fair to mention now.
- 1:30:29Hopefully we've got some new Canadian and American listeners
- 1:30:32given the the interest in that interview.
- 1:30:35We definitely had more from that demographic.
- 1:30:37So if you are tuned in from there, thanks for sticking
- 1:30:40around and putting your trust in us.
- 1:30:42But I'm sorry that we didn't put our trust in Cam.
- 1:30:45I'll put him in fourth. Definitely.
- 1:30:47He was, he was a solid 4th. Him and Clayton Young, we're in
- 1:30:49the shortlist there. You go, but then we were saying
- 1:30:53that. Mance.
- 1:30:54Right might. Run 2 seconds faster than the
- 1:30:56American record and take it off him.
- 1:30:58Here. We've got some editing to do.
- 1:30:59I think we'll we'll settle on a one second.
- 1:31:02Mance beating the American record by one second and Cam
- 1:31:05holding the North American 20537.
- 1:31:09Perfect. Put it into the ether.
- 1:31:12Where is. Mance running Chicago.
- 1:31:15Oh, that's where. Kip them set.
- 1:31:17Their record as well, wasn't it? Oh shit, yeah, he'll probably
- 1:31:21take it down unfortunately, although they're obviously two
- 1:31:24complete different athletes. Maybe Clayton's performance next
- 1:31:28week might give us an indication of kind of, well, I mean,
- 1:31:31Mansa's 20K gave us an indication, but you know, they
- 1:31:34usually seem to go hand in hand with the performances, don't
- 1:31:37they? Actually I found it weird that.
- 1:31:41Clayton Young released a video and Connor Mans wasn't in it at
- 1:31:44all. So could Conor Mance be injured?
- 1:31:47Well, that race was last. Monday maybe, or Sunday, but
- 1:31:52maybe Clayton's video is from this week, or Clayton's project
- 1:31:56might have been in been in YouTube.
- 1:31:58Been in Tokyo for a little while already.
- 1:32:00I feel like I've got to put Cam in.
- 1:32:03Changing my, changing my tip. You're right, we'll be off.
- 1:32:08We're off brand, so Tedessa's out.
- 1:32:14Mr. Tequila's gone. Cam Levins.
- 1:32:16So there we go. Where's Cam Levins First?
- 1:32:18No bronze. Bronze You.
- 1:32:21Don't believe in them, put them second.
- 1:32:31Oh, all right. Silver, silver and then galette
- 1:32:35for bronze. If you're if you're probably
- 1:32:37second like, you may as well on 1st.
- 1:32:38Time there I mean. I mean, I'm, I'm confident I'll
- 1:32:44still be ahead of you. Go on golf.
- 1:32:48That's. It all these.
- 1:32:49Irish have done heat training over here.
- 1:32:51So this Irish heat wave, I will never speak.
- 1:32:55I'll of the Irish heat wave again, if your if your tips come
- 1:32:58to fruition, let it let it be known.
- 1:33:01I'll go Cam first, the gay second, Galetta 3rd.
- 1:33:06That's that's the revised tips, half, half of those Irish
- 1:33:10athletes. Would have fallen under the
- 1:33:12other police messages to specify if it wasn't for you, Owen.
- 1:33:19Bet 365 No, I'm not Connor Mance is not injured.
- 1:33:26He's just run. 209 kilometers this week.
- 1:33:29So yeah, he's on one, and quickly is it worth saying?
- 1:33:34Anything on training weeks I can I can give a 2 minute I mean
- 1:33:38I've. As per advice, I've not done any
- 1:33:41running so I dusted off houses, bike, dusted off houses, lycra
- 1:33:47and pedaled into work a few times this week.
- 1:33:51So not running has turned you into.
- 1:33:53A cross dresser. No, no, I wouldn't say turn me
- 1:33:58into. I mean, I'll just put it back
- 1:34:00on. But yeah.
- 1:34:05No, I can't even find so my bikes I need to take and get
- 1:34:10service. So in the meantime I run houses
- 1:34:12and I'm not sure I have bibniks and bits and pieces somewhere,
- 1:34:16but I want the extra padding on my bum because that's the area
- 1:34:21that's a bit sore. But yeah, rode a few times, swam
- 1:34:23this morning, did a couple of KS in the pool.
- 1:34:25Where did you swim? BD Park.
- 1:34:29Oh yeah. Not in the ocean.
- 1:34:31Get eaten. I was in Scarborough pool this
- 1:34:33morning. We should.
- 1:34:34We could. Have arranged this well.
- 1:34:37God that's a sad sight. Fuck if we start.
- 1:34:39Riding and swimming together. Oh dear, What's happened?
- 1:34:44A gym three times this week and I think I staunted four or five
- 1:34:47nights, so that's the end of me. How is the mental side of
- 1:34:52things? With not running for a week, we
- 1:34:55have more time and energy. I'm probably more pleasant.
- 1:34:57Generally, apart from the fact that I'm cranky, I'm not running
- 1:35:00so. But no, I'm all fine.
- 1:35:02Like life goes on. So if I'm still doing this for a
- 1:35:06period of time I think I'll be getting annoyed, but right now
- 1:35:09it's fine. And how is cycling on the bike
- 1:35:12path? As opposed to running, I find
- 1:35:14you just want to race everyone you know their.
- 1:35:16Commuter races, like someone comes past you, you just want to
- 1:35:20jump on their wheel. And then yeah, which is probably
- 1:35:23not great given I'm a bit uncomfortable in the Gooch area,
- 1:35:27but yeah, that's what's happening.
- 1:35:29And is there any pain when you're cycling?
- 1:35:30No, no. Other than like a bit of disc
- 1:35:33just from. Sitting in the saddle, but the
- 1:35:35actual peddling? No, no.
- 1:35:37OK. Yeah.
- 1:35:39And similar with swimming today, sort of.
- 1:35:41No real discomfort, so that's good.
- 1:35:43But I do feel a little bit still walking around and I've got I've
- 1:35:47tried to test it when I shouldn't be and it doesn't feel
- 1:35:50great. So unscan tomorrow get a scan.
- 1:35:52I'll scan OK when. You say?
- 1:35:53Couple of K's in the. Pool as well what what you're.
- 1:35:56Talking there, 2K40 laps, 40 laps.
- 1:36:00Yeah, I was coming. Out of the pool a few weeks.
- 1:36:02Ago and bumped into Luke Bait. He'd just been for a swim.
- 1:36:04I didn't see him in there. I'd done AK and I was almost
- 1:36:09sinking. Felt like I'd had a good way.
- 1:36:11I was and I was like to Luke also.
- 1:36:14What have you just done then? And he's like 06 K, like some
- 1:36:18intervals and stuff. And I just couldn't get my head
- 1:36:20around it. 6K in the water. Yeah, yeah, that'd be doing.
- 1:36:25What, 4K an hour at least. So yeah, an hour and a half
- 1:36:29hour. An hour and a half.
- 1:36:30Have you Aqua jogged? I have.
- 1:36:33In the past. I got a belt that's good.
- 1:36:36I just don't want to. Yeah.
- 1:36:39Look, there may come a time, let's call it next week, where I
- 1:36:43have to consider that. But yeah, I have, I have.
- 1:36:47I 20/20/17 I Aqua jogged for a bit, I pinged my calf a couple
- 1:36:51of times, got a belt and yeah, we'd run in the deep pool.
- 1:36:55So I have done it before, but only short bursts.
- 1:37:00Did you do that when you had a stressy?
- 1:37:02Yeah, when I was injured in Brisbane, I.
- 1:37:04Am a genie, Mac. I must have went like to seven
- 1:37:07or eight pools looking for one that was deep enough.
- 1:37:09Yeah. And then I actually found one
- 1:37:10and it was like 40 minutes away. So in the mornings I'd go there,
- 1:37:14Aqua jog before, and then in the evening I could jog again.
- 1:37:18Painful. And I wouldn't wish it on my
- 1:37:19worst enemy. What's the closest thing to
- 1:37:21running you can do without actually running?
- 1:37:23So yeah. Yeah.
- 1:37:25Do you physically? Move and like.
- 1:37:27Forwards, yeah, you run super slow daily.
- 1:37:31Super super super slow. I just wanted not to like, it's
- 1:37:34that pubic. Area like movement in there.
- 1:37:37I didn't want to. Like I've got the, I've got a
- 1:37:40belt. I could do it, but I just don't
- 1:37:41want to irritate the area if I can do other things for now.
- 1:37:46Wait. Wait till you get the scan
- 1:37:47results, yeah. Exactly.
- 1:37:49How about you guys? So I had my down.
- 1:37:52Week. So I jogged 30 minutes really
- 1:37:55easy. Monday morning, I jogged 30
- 1:37:58minutes, really easy Thursday. Then Friday I was meant to have
- 1:38:02rest, but my brother, he's sort of on the comeback train as
- 1:38:04well, so I jogged with him for 30 minutes.
- 1:38:07Saturday I jogged for 45 minutes and then this morning I jogged.
- 1:38:11So I'm sort of like like next week's a full week.
- 1:38:14So I don't 60 minutes over hills this morning, just getting the
- 1:38:17legs, starting to condition them again for the hilly Irish cross
- 1:38:21country that's ahead of me. So yeah, feeling all right.
- 1:38:24I'm just ready to sort of really eager to get back into it now
- 1:38:27next week. I'm looking forward to it.
- 1:38:29Treadmill should come as well next week, so I'll keep everyone
- 1:38:32in the clubhouse updated on that.
- 1:38:33That'll be fun. Tighten times with the treadmill
- 1:38:36arriving. Ahead of a long winter, Yeah.
- 1:38:40Can't wait. We might have to.
- 1:38:42Ban the weather talk on here because like.
- 1:38:43Usually in like the UK and Ireland you could just get your
- 1:38:47head down and forget that like Australia and stuff exists, but
- 1:38:50you're going to have to listen to me and Dean talking about
- 1:38:52summer every week. I know it's you'll be
- 1:38:56complaining about the heat. From Scarborough beach, pull the
- 1:38:59way we're going, but anyway. I I won't talk about a training
- 1:39:03week formally. But I did get into a couple more
- 1:39:06races on the bike this week. One of them was like legit as
- 1:39:09well. You know, sometimes you think
- 1:39:12even when you're running as well, you think or maybe like
- 1:39:15the competition is just in my head, Like do you think this
- 1:39:17other person knows I'm like about to drop them or like
- 1:39:20trying to chase them or anything like that?
- 1:39:22This guy went past me at like a decently faster speed than I,
- 1:39:28but I'd got on his wheel straight away and he looked over
- 1:39:31his shoulder so he knew I was there.
- 1:39:33And he kept, he was like in all the lycra clipping shoes and
- 1:39:36everything. And he kept putting these mad
- 1:39:38surges in and it was, it was like so much fun, but it was so
- 1:39:42hard to stay with him. And then we got like, is that
- 1:39:45not mad awkward a little bit? Like every surge you would do
- 1:39:49like. You'd see his cadence like
- 1:39:50rapidly increase and then he'd he'd check his shoulder to see
- 1:39:54if I was still there and then. Eventually I went back past him.
- 1:40:00After he'd done all the surges, as if to say, like, I'm still,
- 1:40:04I'm still here, this is my time to try and drop you.
- 1:40:07And I couldn't. And then he went back past me.
- 1:40:09So I guess he won. Yeah.
- 1:40:12Rode behind a few guys. For 80% of the way home the
- 1:40:15other night. And then, yeah, made a move over
- 1:40:18a bit of a hill because I'm powered away.
- 1:40:20I'm a bit lighter than a lot of them.
- 1:40:21And then you, you know, you're away for about two minutes and
- 1:40:24then you see your legs start to gas because you just don't have
- 1:40:26the conditioning. So aerobically, I feel all
- 1:40:28right, but my legs are just turning to Jelly.
- 1:40:30And you just, it's a matter of pride.
- 1:40:32You just have to sort of just pretend like it's fine.
- 1:40:34You're trying to keep them at Bay.
- 1:40:36And do you really need to be doing that?
- 1:40:38I don't know. Anyway, we can't help it when
- 1:40:42you're in it. Quads are smashed.
- 1:40:44Yeah, Silver. Lining it's some strengthening
- 1:40:47you wouldn't otherwise get in your quad muscles.
- 1:40:49Exactly. I think that's.
- 1:40:52Still gone. We got the F1 to get to what's
- 1:40:55left. Owen where?
- 1:40:58Where is it up to? I'm not even.
- 1:41:00I didn't. Even know it was on I forgot
- 1:41:01mine's is on this. Weekend, there we go.
- 1:41:03I have to go to a BBQ even though it's BBQ.
- 1:41:08It's not the Aussie type of BBQ, Yeah.
- 1:41:10It's an Irish BBQ. What?
- 1:41:12What do you? What do you put on it?
- 1:41:15I don't know, I'm just going to, I'm just going to steal the
- 1:41:17food. All right lads, well, next time
- 1:41:19we do this we'll have. Some world championship medalist
- 1:41:22to talk about I think the women's 10K and maybe the men's
- 1:41:25marathon at least would have happened.
- 1:41:28So men's marathon, is that the cheat?
- 1:41:31It's the 15th. I think we might not quite get
- 1:41:34there. Yeah, I think we'd be just shy,
- 1:41:38I think. Oh, maybe you.
- 1:41:39Maybe it's the women's. What goes first?
- 1:41:42Then I think the women's 10K final is on the first day, and
- 1:41:45then maybe the marathon is on the second day.
- 1:41:47And what about the 800? The 800 must.
