Transcript
- 0:01Welcome into the two-minute timeout
- 0:02sponsored by Bunkers of Auburn downtown
- 0:04and um saw Indiana finish off a 16-0
- 0:08season. Uh winning a national
- 0:10championship and unlikely uh for people
- 0:13that know college football history to
- 0:14see Indiana do it. Uh but you know, I
- 0:17think it's it's a different era. It is.
- 0:19And and it's the first time that you
- 0:22know, team with the most talent really
- 0:24hasn't been in the equation. and they
- 0:27weren't the most talented in terms of
- 0:28star rankings, but look, experience, um,
- 0:32veteran presence,
- 0:34um, system, all those things now matter
- 0:36more than they've ever mattered because,
- 0:38uh, the talent's more spread out now
- 0:40than it's ever been. U,, I think that's
- 0:42something you can learn from this. I
- 0:44think it's a cautionary tale, too, a
- 0:45little bit of that. Um, you know, I
- 0:49think you see it in the NFL right now
- 0:51where, well, you don't win, well, we
- 0:52spend a lot of money, then then you must
- 0:54win. Well, everybody's not going to win.
- 0:56U there's going to be some challenges
- 0:58when you look at this and the and you
- 1:01know, people now are going to go, "Well,
- 1:02Indiana did it. We we ought to be able
- 1:04to do it." And you can. You can do it,
- 1:06too. But there's also a formula for
- 1:08doing it. And um I think system um
- 1:12obviously getting the right pieces. I
- 1:15think evaluation is now maybe more
- 1:17important than it's ever been because of
- 1:18the portal. Evaluating guys that fit
- 1:21your system, not necessarily the most
- 1:23talented guys, but the guys that fit and
- 1:25can execute what you want to do on both
- 1:27sides of the ball has never been more
- 1:28important than it is now because you're
- 1:30not developing talent in college
- 1:32football anymore. There'll be a few guys
- 1:34that hang around and you'll develop some
- 1:35players and positions, but now you're
- 1:37fitting pieces and trying to make it
- 1:39work. And we saw it for Auburn
- 1:40basketball the last couple of years and
- 1:42fitting those pieces, keeping guys on
- 1:44campus for a second year was a big deal.
- 1:46I think that's something you look
- 1:47forward to now for football. Can you
- 1:49keep guys transfers a second and third
- 1:51year and develop them like you would
- 1:52high school players? That's something to
- 1:54watch for and that's what Indiana did.
- 1:56Really successful. So go check out
- 1:57Bunkers Auburn downtown. Tell them we
- 1:59sent you.
