- 0:00Speaker 1: At Cathedral's Rock on the northern Maine coast, David Morgan
- 0:04Speaker 1: has recovered his wife's body after her fatal fall onto
- 0:07Speaker 1: the spires below. Weeks later, evidence within the Morgan household
- 0:12Speaker 1: suggests that she may have returned, and a box holding $ 100, 000
- 0:16Speaker 1: has disappeared. From November 6th, 1950, this is Inner Sanctum Mysteries,
- 0:25Speaker 1: Twice Dead, the ninth episode of the series ABC Seasons
- 0:30Speaker 1: sponsored by Mars Candy Bars. Larry Haynes, Amzie Strickland, and
- 0:36Speaker 1: Santos Ortega are heard in a production directed and produced
- 0:40Speaker 1: by Hyman Brown. Paul McGrath is your host. And now,
- 0:45Speaker 1: we return to the original broadcast.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Another hair-raising drama on Inner Sanctum in just 40 seconds.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Stay tuned. There's a special kind of enjoyment in facing
- 0:58Speaker 2: our problems when they're presented interestingly and dramatically. This accounts
- 1:02Speaker 2: for the success of ABC's daytime series, Modern Romances, which
- 1:06Speaker 2: approaches everyday problems with an open mind. Modern, that's the
- 1:10Speaker 2: keynote of these dramatizations. These are the problems that beset
- 1:14Speaker 2: human beings every day, every year. And they are the
- 1:17Speaker 2: fascinating themes of modern romances presented every weekday from the
- 1:20Speaker 2: pages of Modern Romances magazine. Join us, won't you, tomorrow
- 1:24Speaker 2: morning for another Modern Romances on ABC. Inner Sanctum Mysteries
- 1:44Speaker 2: Brought to you by the American Broadcasting Company. Tonight, Twice Dead,
- 1:51Speaker 2: starring Larry Haynes. Good evening, friends of the creaking door.
- 2:04Speaker 2: This is your host to welcome you again into the
- 2:07Speaker 2: inner sanctum.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Come in.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Come on in, please, and will you excuse me while
- 2:12Speaker 2: I scrape the mud off my hands? Got them dirty
- 2:16Speaker 2: in the cemetery, digging up a plot for you. But
- 2:21Speaker 2: that's something that we'll all go into, sooner or later.
- 2:25Speaker 4: A plot?
- 2:33Speaker 2: Oh, by the way, before we start, I'd like to
- 2:34Speaker 2: reassure you, if you suddenly find yourself spinning like a wheel,
- 2:38Speaker 2: don't be alarmed. It's because you've got spooks all around you. Oh,
- 2:43Speaker 2: and please be considerate, folks. If you find yourself going
- 2:47Speaker 2: to pieces, pull yourself together. Remember, I have to sweep
- 2:53Speaker 2: up afterwards. On the northern coast of Maine, there's a
- 3:05Speaker 2: high point of land... a high point from which there's
- 3:08Speaker 2: a sheer drop of several hundred feet to the rock
- 3:11Speaker 2: churned surf below. Centuries of seas have shaped three tall
- 3:16Speaker 2: spire-like rocks into needle-sharp points which look from the sea
- 3:21Speaker 2: like the spires of an ancient Gothic cathedral. The cliff
- 3:25Speaker 2: is called Cathedral Rock. And here, some weeks ago, David Morgan, grief-tortured,
- 3:33Speaker 2: tugged his wife's impaled body off the bloody point of
- 3:38Speaker 2: the tallest spire. There are those in the village who
- 3:43Speaker 2: say that David Morgan's.
- 3:45Speaker 4: Mind is broken.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Because he insists Carol will come back to live with him.
- 3:54Speaker 2: I'll be finished in a moment, Seth. I told Morrison
- 3:57Speaker 2: in the village you was carving Carol's tombstone yourself.
- 4:02Speaker 4: You left? Mm-hmm.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Easy to read, too. Here lies Carol Morgan, wife of
- 4:11Speaker 2: David Morgan. Born July 14, 1912. Died horribly on Cathedral Rock,
- 4:19Speaker 2: August 12, 1950. Still don't see why you put that in.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Why not? She did die horribly, didn't she?
- 4:30Speaker 5: That spike of rock coming out of her back.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Like a speared salmon... Time you forgot those things, David.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Time you forgot other things, too.
- 4:40Speaker 3: What other things?
- 4:41Speaker 2: There's no secret about you thinking Carol's coming back from
- 4:44Speaker 2: the dead.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Oh, I don't mean it to be a secret.
- 4:49Speaker 5: There are forces all around us, dead and living, that
- 4:56Speaker 5: we don't understand, Seth. I feel Carol in his room, Seth.
- 5:03Speaker 5: I smell her perfume.
- 5:04Speaker 2: I hear a voice in the wind when I'm at
- 5:06Speaker 2: a grave on the cliff. That's only natural, son.
- 5:10Speaker 3: You're grieving.
- 5:10Speaker 2: In a little while... In a little while, Carol will
- 5:14Speaker 2: be back.
- 5:15Speaker 5: If you're going to help me get this stone to
- 5:18Speaker 5: a grave, get a lantern and come on.
- 5:20Speaker 4: Hold the lantern closer.
- 5:32Speaker 3: There.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Well, it's a decent enough stone. Folks in the village
- 5:38Speaker 2: have been saying things about you. Oh, like what? That
- 5:43Speaker 2: a man acting like you do is a guilty conscience.
- 5:46Speaker 2: And what do you think, Seth? Me, I don't believe
- 5:49Speaker 2: such things. Any more than I believe the dead can return.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Come on back to the house, son.
- 5:55Speaker 4: No.
- 5:56Speaker 2: I want to stay here a while. David, you've got to...
- 5:58Speaker 2: I want to stay here a while.
- 5:59Speaker 4: Sure.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Torture yourself like you do. Every night come dark.
- 6:05Speaker 4: Go ahead.
- 6:09Speaker 2: You'll meet Carol again when I bury you next to her.
- 6:12Speaker 4: Up here.
- 6:13Speaker 2: Now, leave me alone.
- 6:15Speaker 3: Let me be. Oh, Carol.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Carol. Come back.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Tell me you'll forgive me.
- 6:29Speaker 5: Hello.
- 6:30Speaker 3: What?
- 6:33Speaker 6: You're sad. I can tell I'm sad, too. Can you
- 6:38Speaker 6: help me?
- 6:39Speaker 3: You've come back.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Carol, you've come.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Why do.
- 6:43Speaker 6: You call me.
- 6:46Speaker 4: Carol?
- 6:46Speaker 2: Who are you? I... I don't know.
- 6:49Speaker 3: What are you doing here?
- 6:51Speaker 6: I'm looking for my cat. A black cat with white
- 6:54Speaker 6: feet and a white spot under the neck.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Why did you come here?
- 6:59Speaker 6: I don't know. I just got on the bus at
- 7:02Speaker 6: Portsmouth and then... I thought of my cat, and I
- 7:05Speaker 6: had the bus stop, and I came toward the sea.
- 7:09Speaker 3: You'd better come back to the house with me.
- 7:11Speaker 6: Oh, but I can't.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Now, come along.
- 7:13Speaker 3: I'll find your cat.
- 7:15Speaker 6: Have you seen him?
- 7:15Speaker 2: No, no. There's been no cat around here. Not for
- 7:21Speaker 2: several weeks.
- 7:22Speaker 6: Why did you call me Carol?
- 7:25Speaker 5: I was waiting for someone. Someone named Carol. Want some
- 7:40Speaker 5: more coffee?
- 7:41Speaker 6: Oh, no, thank you. I feel better now. You've been
- 7:44Speaker 6: very nice. People haven't been nice. They look at me strangely.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Well, it might be your clothes. They're torn.
- 7:52Speaker 6: No, it's more than that. I've looked in mirrors. My
- 7:56Speaker 6: eyes don't look like other women's eyes look. Will you
- 8:01Speaker 6: help me, please? I... I must be somebody.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Sure, sure, I'll help you.
- 8:06Speaker 5: I'll get Doc Southers up here and he'll be able to.
- 8:10Speaker 6: It's Minnie, I told you. Come here, Minnie, come here, baby.
- 8:15Speaker 3: What did you call that cat?
- 8:17Speaker 6: Minnie, of course.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Why?
- 8:21Speaker 6: Why are you looking at me like that?
- 8:25Speaker 5: That cat belonged to my wife. It hasn't been in
- 8:30Speaker 5: this house... Since the day she died. And the cat's
- 8:35Speaker 5: name is Minnie.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Then.
- 8:39Speaker 6: Then it must be that I belong here. This must
- 8:44Speaker 6: be my home.
- 8:54Speaker 2: The devil's got hold of you, David. I don't know
- 8:57Speaker 2: you anymore. I don't trust you.
- 8:59Speaker 4: Why not?
- 9:01Speaker 2: What harm do you think I can do you, or
- 9:02Speaker 2: want to? I've known you since you were a boy.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Long years. I come back here to stay with you
- 9:08Speaker 2: when Carol died, to help. But you're beyond help. You're mad.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Because you're thinking Carol has come back to you, living
- 9:15Speaker 2: in this woman's body. And who's to say that couldn't happen? You?
- 9:18Speaker 2: I'm a God-fearing man, David. And such a thing would
- 9:20Speaker 2: be the devil's work. I'll have none of it.
- 9:22Speaker 3: If Carol can come back to me in any way,
- 9:24Speaker 3: that's what I want. Even if she made a pact
- 9:28Speaker 3: with the devil himself... No!
- 9:30Speaker 4: No!
- 9:30Speaker 2: No! Bring the flashlight.
- 9:31Speaker 4: Come on. Open up. It's David Morgan.
- 9:41Speaker 6: It's the chair. The rocking chair by the window.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Carol's chair.
- 9:45Speaker 4: What about it? It rocked.
- 9:47Speaker 6: It rocked by itself.
- 9:48Speaker 2: It must have been the wind. No, the window's closed.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Was that all you saw?
- 9:53Speaker 6: It was all I saw. But there were things I felt.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Like what?
- 9:58Speaker 6: The chair stopped working. As though someone had gotten up
- 10:01Speaker 6: from it. And then the floor between the chair and
- 10:04Speaker 6: the bed creaked. And a moment later, the bed spring
- 10:08Speaker 6: sat beside me as though someone sat there.
- 10:10Speaker 2: But you saw nothing.
- 10:12Speaker 6: I only heard a sigh.
- 10:14Speaker 4: A tired, tired voice.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Take it to my room, Seth. Oh, you had a dream.
- 10:22Speaker 2: That's all. Your mind's upset. Tomorrow I'll try to find
- 10:27Speaker 2: out who you are.
- 10:28Speaker 7: If....
- 10:31Speaker 3: If it's not too late.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Has the morning brought you to your right senses?
- 10:44Speaker 4: Yes.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Depends on what you call right senses. I mean about
- 10:48Speaker 2: the girl. Where is she? I don't know. I haven't
- 10:51Speaker 2: seen her this morning. Where did Carol used to be
- 10:56Speaker 2: this time of morning? A little after eight? She'd have
- 11:00Speaker 2: been in the hothouse looking to her flowers.
- 11:02Speaker 4: Why?
- 11:03Speaker 6: Good morning. Oh, look at these wonderful flowers.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Jehoshaphat.
- 11:08Speaker 6: Do you mind that I pick some for the table?
- 11:10Speaker 2: You can pick as many flowers as you want.
- 11:14Speaker 6: What are you staring at me for?
- 11:15Speaker 3: That dress. Where'd you get it?
- 11:19Speaker 6: Oh, I found it in the closet. Mine was so torn,
- 11:22Speaker 6: I had to do something. Do you mind?
- 11:25Speaker 3: Oh, no, no. And your hair is different, too.
- 11:29Speaker 6: I feel better with it up. Does it look right?
- 11:32Speaker 3: Exactly right.
- 11:33Speaker 6: You finished eating?
- 11:35Speaker 2: Oh, yes.
- 11:37Speaker 3: I've got to go.
- 11:37Speaker 2: I'm going out for haddock today.
- 11:40Speaker 6: I won't be seeing you again, then.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Why not?
- 11:43Speaker 6: Because I have to go. I must find out who
- 11:47Speaker 6: I am.
- 11:48Speaker 2: I mean to do just that tonight.
- 11:50Speaker 6: But what will I do till then?
- 11:52Speaker 3: Nothing. Just wait.
- 11:55Speaker 2: I'm driving Seth to the village.
- 11:56Speaker 3: You'll be quiet and alone. Just rest.
- 12:00Speaker 4: But I.
- 12:02Speaker 6: I'm afraid of being alone.
- 12:03Speaker 3: You won't be alone.
- 12:16Speaker 6: Oh, shut up. I fed you this noon, didn't I?
- 12:22Speaker 4: Oh, who's there?
- 12:24Speaker 2: It's me. Is that you, Carol?
- 12:28Speaker 6: You scared me. Who are you?
- 12:32Speaker 2: I guess you're not Carol.
- 12:34Speaker 4: Are you?
- 12:36Speaker 6: I guess not.
- 12:36Speaker 2: Have you seen her?
- 12:39Speaker 6: No, I... I understand Carol is dead.
- 12:43Speaker 7: That's what everybody says, but I don't believe it. I
- 12:48Speaker 7: come here whenever David leaves and I look for her.
- 12:54Speaker 6: What was Carol to you, I mean?
- 12:58Speaker 3: My sister.
- 13:00Speaker 6: What makes you think she's still alive? Have you seen her?
- 13:03Speaker 7: No, but David hasn't changed a thing in this house
- 13:07Speaker 7: since he hid her.
- 13:09Speaker 3: You see?
- 13:11Speaker 2: There. And over there. Everything. Just like she left it.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Her apron's hanging on the door. You see?
- 13:21Speaker 6: But maybe he left it.
- 13:23Speaker 2: And I found something in the cellar.
- 13:26Speaker 6: Something very important.
- 13:29Speaker 4: What?
- 13:31Speaker 3: A skeleton.
- 13:33Speaker 7: And I found a box with lots of money in it.
- 13:37Speaker 7: It's fun looking for Geralt. Come with me and I'll
- 13:41Speaker 7: show you what I find.
- 13:43Speaker 3: No.
- 13:43Speaker 4: You come with me. Don't make me mad.
- 13:48Speaker 2: You can help me look for Carol. I'll look upstairs.
- 13:53Speaker 6: No.
- 13:55Speaker 7: I want you to come with me in the cellar.
- 14:03Speaker 2: You must make me mad. Oh. What?
- 14:16Speaker 4: Oh, no.
- 14:18Speaker 2: Don't be scared.
- 14:21Speaker 3: It's me.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Van.
- 14:24Speaker 6: Where? Where is this?
- 14:27Speaker 7: I took you to the cellar. We've got to find Carol.
- 14:33Speaker 7: I'm sorry I hit you. You made me mad.
- 14:36Speaker 2: What are you going to do?
- 14:38Speaker 6: Why did you take me here? Carol is dead.
- 14:40Speaker 2: No, she ain't. She's here somewhere. Besides.
- 14:45Speaker 7: I promised I'd show you the room below the cellar.
- 14:49Speaker 7: With the skeleton and the box of money in it.
- 14:53Speaker 7: Don't you remember?
- 14:54Speaker 6: Help me up.
- 14:56Speaker 2: You see? I've lifted the door. It's heavy. It's stone.
- 15:03Speaker 2: But I'm strong.
- 15:05Speaker 6: Is that where it is?
- 15:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:09Speaker 2: I'll hold the lantern over the opening. See?
- 15:13Speaker 6: See?
- 15:14Speaker 4: There's a ladder.
- 15:16Speaker 6: Get the box for me. I want to see it.
- 15:19Speaker 2: All right.
- 15:21Speaker 8: Wait here and hold the ladder so I can see.
- 15:25Speaker 8: Hold the ladder higher. I can't see. Hold the ladder higher.
- 15:36Speaker 4: Let me out!
- 15:39Speaker 2: Let me out!
- 15:48Speaker 4: Sam? Sam? Yes?
- 15:50Speaker 7: It's longer than I thought.
- 15:54Speaker 6: What's the matter?
- 15:55Speaker 4: What are.
- 15:57Speaker 2: You crying about?
- 16:00Speaker 6: A man was here.
- 16:00Speaker 2: Who?
- 16:01Speaker 6: Carol's brother.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Sam?
- 16:03Speaker 4: Yes.
- 16:03Speaker 6: He was horrible. Why didn't you tell me about him?
- 16:06Speaker 2: He isn't important.
- 16:07Speaker 6: Oh, he isn't. He could have killed me. You told
- 16:10Speaker 6: me everything else about Carol. You should have told me that.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Never mind, Van. You just do what I told you.
- 16:16Speaker 2: As soon as David gets in that crazy mind of his,
- 16:18Speaker 2: that car of spirits coming back in you, he'll have
- 16:20Speaker 2: no secrets from you. And we'll know where he keeps
- 16:23Speaker 2: that box of money. I.
- 16:25Speaker 6: I don't want to do it. I'm through.
- 16:26Speaker 3: No, you ain't.
- 16:28Speaker 2: They took good care of that. Took the trouble of
- 16:30Speaker 2: finding out some things about you in Hollywood.
- 16:32Speaker 6: I don't care what you found out. I don't care
- 16:34Speaker 6: if you are my uncle. The money you've been sending
- 16:37Speaker 6: me since Mother died was something you promised her you'd do.
- 16:40Speaker 4: Yep.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Now you're going to help me get it back.
- 16:43Speaker 4: All of it.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Lots more for both of us. You want to make
- 16:48Speaker 2: a success out there as an actress, don't you?
- 16:51Speaker 3: Takes money, don't it?
- 16:53Speaker 4: Lots of it.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Well, David and Carol had over a hundred thousand put
- 16:58Speaker 2: aside in that box of air.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Just you find it.
- 17:01Speaker 6: My first professional role. An amnesia case. For half what's
- 17:06Speaker 6: in a tin box.
- 17:07Speaker 2: It'll be easy. You'll see. We might as well not
- 17:11Speaker 2: tell you tonight.
- 17:12Speaker 4: No.
- 17:12Speaker 3: No.
- 17:13Speaker 2: I'm through. What's ailing you anyhow?
- 17:15Speaker 6: I don't know. I get to thinking what they do.
- 17:19Speaker 6: That Carol's still alive or... Or that her ghosts surround anyhow.
- 17:24Speaker 4: Oh, bosh.
- 17:25Speaker 2: Saw I buried myself and don't believe in ghosts. You've
- 17:28Speaker 2: been studying it too much, that's what.
- 17:30Speaker 4: Maybe.
- 17:32Speaker 6: Uncle Seth.
- 17:32Speaker 3: What is it?
- 17:34Speaker 6: How long can a man live in a small sealed
- 17:38Speaker 6: room without air?
- 17:48Speaker 2: Hello, sir. Where's the woman? Upstairs, I reckon, David. How
- 17:55Speaker 2: was the fishing?
- 17:57Speaker 4: Bad.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Maybe half a ton. Mostly scrod. What's the girl been doing?
- 18:03Speaker 2: Just walking around, I guess. She seem happy here? Or
- 18:08Speaker 2: is she restless? Did she leave to see anybody or such?
- 18:11Speaker 2: Seems happy. Too happy. What's that? What's wrong?
- 18:16Speaker 3: Shh. Can't you hear something pounding like.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Yes, eh? Time to do. In the cellar scenes. I'm
- 18:23Speaker 2: going down to have a look. Might be a beam slipping. David! Oh, hello.
- 18:28Speaker 6: Oh, David, I'm glad you're back. I want to talk
- 18:31Speaker 6: to you very seriously, I do.
- 18:33Speaker 3: All right. I think the time's come to talk, if
- 18:37Speaker 3: you feel like it.
- 18:38Speaker 6: But not here, please. I... I want to walk along
- 18:43Speaker 6: the bluff.
- 18:56Speaker 5: The last time I walked this way toward the rock
- 19:00Speaker 5: was with Carol.
- 19:03Speaker 3: She died horribly. Nobody saw us. We were alone. Was
- 19:13Speaker 3: that frightening?
- 19:14Speaker 7: No.
- 19:16Speaker 6: I know the story and I feel very sad about it.
- 19:19Speaker 6: That Why, I wanted to talk to you before it's
- 19:21Speaker 6: too late. Before we do anything about finding out who
- 19:24Speaker 6: I am. I don't want to go back to any
- 19:27Speaker 6: other life.
- 19:29Speaker 4: Why not?
- 19:30Speaker 6: I never was so happy to be with anyone as
- 19:33Speaker 6: I am here with you, David.
- 19:35Speaker 3: Don't move. Look down there. Over the edge. See those rocks?
- 19:44Speaker 3: The pointed one.
- 19:45Speaker 6: Yes, Cathedral rock, isn't it?
- 19:49Speaker 4: Yes.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Carol was standing right where you were when she fell. I.
- 19:56Speaker 3: It's Carol who told you to get off the bus here.
- 19:59Speaker 2: To come looking for a cat. Even made you know
- 20:02Speaker 2: the cat's name. Made you pick flowers in the morning
- 20:04Speaker 2: like she always did.
- 20:05Speaker 4: No. Wait, David. Wait.
- 20:05Speaker 2: She's coming back to Through you.
- 20:08Speaker 6: Wait, David, I want to tell you.
- 20:09Speaker 2: I wanted Carol back.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Because I loved her. But I've been afraid. Because... I
- 20:18Speaker 3: murdered Carol.
- 20:21Speaker 6: You murdered her?
- 20:22Speaker 2: We quarreled.
- 20:23Speaker 3: About Seth.
- 20:24Speaker 2: She was standing just as you are. Right there. What's
- 20:31Speaker 2: the matter?
- 20:31Speaker 6: David, my back.
- 20:33Speaker 4: Help me. My back.
- 20:35Speaker 6: Something is stabbing me. It's stabbing me.
- 20:46Speaker 4: Oh.
- 20:47Speaker 2: I'm going down to the village for the doctor, Seth.
- 20:50Speaker 6: Don't want the doctor. Please, feeling better.
- 20:54Speaker 3: No, you stay quiet.
- 20:56Speaker 2: I'm going.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Seth will look after you.
- 20:58Speaker 2: I can get the doc faster by going. All right.
- 21:03Speaker 3: You can stop the acting now.
- 21:06Speaker 2: What happened?
- 21:07Speaker 6: He was telling me that he murdered Carol. I had
- 21:11Speaker 6: a pain. A terrible pain in my chest and back.
- 21:13Speaker 6: It wasn't acting.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Murdered Carol? That's crazy. He had an argument with her.
- 21:21Speaker 2: She got mad and started to run back to the house.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Tripton went over the cliff. Everybody knows that. He feels guilty,
- 21:29Speaker 2: that's all.
- 21:29Speaker 6: He didn't say that.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Probably didn't get a chance. Did you find out anything
- 21:33Speaker 2: about the box of money?
- 21:34Speaker 6: Yes, I know where it is.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Where?
- 21:36Speaker 6: The box is in the sub-cellar.
- 21:39Speaker 2: I never thought of that. I'll go down now and... Wait.
- 21:45Speaker 2: That thumping in the cellar. That have something to do
- 21:49Speaker 2: with the box?
- 21:50Speaker 6: Yes.
- 21:50Speaker 4: Yes.
- 21:51Speaker 6: I had to, Uncle Seth. Then he scared me and
- 21:55Speaker 6: I closed the door and I bolted it on him.
- 21:56Speaker 2: You fool.
- 21:57Speaker 6: Well, I had to.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Changes things.
- 22:00Speaker 6: What do you mean?
- 22:01Speaker 2: Didn't mean to do this, but I've got to now.
- 22:05Speaker 6: I'm going with you.
- 22:06Speaker 4: No, Alice.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Aim to have all the money. You'll stay here, darling.
- 22:13Speaker 2: See to that.
- 22:24Speaker 4: Van?
- 22:26Speaker 2: Van. They're all right. There sits the box. A hundred
- 22:37Speaker 2: thousand or better. To pay for 40 years with the Morgans. Ha, ha, ha.
- 22:46Speaker 2: Better than a hundred thousand.
- 22:47Speaker 6: Hello, sis. You might as well bring the box up
- 22:50Speaker 6: with you. I wanted to get it myself.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Harris, I hit you. You were unconscious.
- 22:57Speaker 6: You killed them. You killed my brother as well. Come
- 23:01Speaker 6: on up and be careful. I know how to use
- 23:04Speaker 6: David's gun.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Harris, I didn't mean to leave you there. Come up
- 23:08Speaker 2: with the box.
- 23:10Speaker 6: Or would you rather I kick the door closed on you?
- 23:12Speaker 2: Harris, don't be a fool. Let's get away first. Then
- 23:15Speaker 2: I'll explain.
- 23:16Speaker 6: Pardon you, call me Alice. That's your niece in California.
- 23:20Speaker 8: I'm Carol.
- 23:21Speaker 2: Carol's dead. Alice, you're out of your mind. Carol is dead.
- 23:24Speaker 6: Is Carol really dead? Do I look dead? Does this
- 23:31Speaker 6: gun look like a ghost withholding?
- 23:33Speaker 2: I can prove it. But we've got to hurry.
- 23:36Speaker 6: Prove I'm dead how?
- 23:37Speaker 2: Come to the top of the cliffs with me. I'll
- 23:40Speaker 2: show you Carol's grave. There. Look. You can see, can't you?
- 23:53Speaker 2: There's the grave, weeks old. It's a trick.
- 23:55Speaker 6: You did this to trick me.
- 23:57Speaker 2: I am Carol. Look at the tombstone and read it.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Here lies Carol Morgan, wife of David Morgan.
- 24:04Speaker 6: I don't believe it. Where's David?
- 24:06Speaker 2: He's gone to the village to get a doctor for you.
- 24:09Speaker 2: You're my niece, Alice, and we've got his money box.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Now come with me before it's too late.
- 24:13Speaker 4: No, I don't believe you.
- 24:14Speaker 8: It's a trick.
- 24:15Speaker 1: David!
- 24:16Speaker 2: Alice, get away from those rocks.
- 24:17Speaker 6: You won't get this box. And you won't trick me
- 24:20Speaker 6: with lies. David will take care of that when he comes.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Give me that box.
- 24:25Speaker 6: Don't come another step, sis, or I'll kill you for sure.
- 24:29Speaker 2: You wouldn't dare. You know good and well you killed
- 24:32Speaker 2: Carol's brother. You won't dare shoot. Give me that box.
- 24:37Speaker 4: Shh! The End.
- 24:45Speaker 2: There she is, Doc, on the cliff. You see her? Now,
- 24:46Speaker 2: take it easy, son.
- 24:47Speaker 4: I'm not a young man.
- 24:48Speaker 2: You run on to her. I'll catch her. All right,
- 24:50Speaker 2: but hurry. Carol!
- 24:51Speaker 4: Carol, get away from there!
- 24:53Speaker 2: Carol, get back on the path!
- 24:55Speaker 4: David!
- 24:56Speaker 6: I thought you'd never come. Seth, he tried... Never mind that.
- 24:59Speaker 9: Get away from the cliff.
- 25:01Speaker 2: You're too close to the edge.
- 25:02Speaker 3: Help!
- 25:03Speaker 6: My back!
- 25:04Speaker 8: Oh, David, that pain again!
- 25:06Speaker 6: Carol!
- 25:07Speaker 4: Doctor, hurry.
- 25:08Speaker 2: She's gonna faint again.
- 25:09Speaker 4: David!
- 25:10Speaker 2: Carol, look out!
- 25:10Speaker 6: You'll fall! Carol, you'll fall off the cliff!
- 25:13Speaker 4: Seth! Dead.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Carol's dead again. And pierced by the same rock. It
- 25:37Speaker 2: was an accident, son. From what you tell me, she
- 25:41Speaker 2: had a seizure. Fluorosy pain. Very painful and contorting.
- 25:48Speaker 5: I said it was the pain of remembering how the
- 25:51Speaker 5: rock felt when she fell.
- 25:53Speaker 4: Carol's dead again.
- 25:58Speaker 2: I wish I knew what happened here with Seth. She
- 26:01Speaker 2: must have shot him just before we come.
- 26:04Speaker 5: Oh, I can answer that easy enough. Carol always mistrusted Seth.
- 26:12Speaker 5: She knew he was biding his time to steal our money.
- 26:18Speaker 3: Probably followed him here with a gun after he took
- 26:20Speaker 3: it from her. Where is the money?
- 26:23Speaker 2: In that box? No.
- 26:26Speaker 3: No, in the bank. That's what I don't understand. She
- 26:30Speaker 3: must have forgotten about the stage money.
- 26:33Speaker 2: How do you mean?
- 26:35Speaker 5: You know her brother, Grant. Kind of simple in the head.
- 26:39Speaker 5: She was always playing games with him.
- 26:42Speaker 3: He was a kid.
- 26:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Well, she gave him the box and.
- 26:47Speaker 5: Filled it with paper money so he could hide it
- 26:49Speaker 5: around the house and make believe finding buried treasure.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Well, doesn't that prove the poor girl below couldn't be Carol?
- 26:57Speaker 2: She'd have known there was no money in it.
- 27:00Speaker 3: Oh, it doesn't prove that bit.
- 27:04Speaker 5: I searched the whole house for that box after she
- 27:06Speaker 5: fell first time.
- 27:09Speaker 3: Never found it.
- 27:11Speaker 5: Last I talked with Van, he couldn't find it. Would
- 27:16Speaker 5: anybody besides Carol know where it was hit?
- 27:20Speaker 4: Well, all right. Have it your way.
- 27:23Speaker 2: I'll leave you be for a spell. I'll send the
- 27:26Speaker 2: sheriff and help from the village. I've been a doctor
- 27:30Speaker 2: too long to say what's dead can't live again.
- 27:34Speaker 4: One way or another.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Poor David. Imagine a sailing man losing both his first
- 27:52Speaker 2: and second mate.
- 27:55Speaker 4: Hmm.
- 27:59Speaker 2: Oh, well. So he winds up with a minus two
- 28:02Speaker 2: as the net result. You know, one thing about it,
- 28:06Speaker 2: when David buries Alice, he'll have less work. Just knock
- 28:10Speaker 2: some new chips off the old block.
- 28:12Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 28:15Speaker 2: I've got a moral for you folks who like to
- 28:17Speaker 2: go sailing. Next time you're on a boat, remember this.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Trim the sails and not the sailors.
- 28:26Speaker 9: Or you could wind up being the salt of the earth.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Tonight's Inner Sanctum mystery was written by Fred Matho and

- 29:45Speaker 9: Already lost her. You'll help mourn his passing, won't you?
- 29:52Speaker 4: Next Monday.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Until then.
