- 0:06Speaker 1: Hey folks, Welcome in to another week with the Iris
- 0:09Speaker 1: Series podcast, coming into week fourteen of the NFL season,
- 0:13Speaker 1: just coming off week thirteen. At the time of recording,
- 0:15Speaker 1: we're still in week thirteen, but great to hear everyone
- 0:18Speaker 1: again and hope everyone's doing well this week. Michael mccuay
- 0:21Speaker 1: delighted to be joined by Jimmy English and Davog McKee
- 0:25Speaker 1: i as we reflect on a returned the winning wes
- 0:29Speaker 1: for the Pittsburgh Steers on the Early Window on Sunday Nights,
- 0:33Speaker 1: winning forty four to thirty eight. Yes that's the correct
- 0:36Speaker 1: score line against the Cincinnati Bengals in Cincinnati. Jimmy, just
- 0:41Speaker 1: first off before we chat about this game, how are
- 0:43Speaker 1: you doing? It's hard to believe we're now sitting on
- 0:46Speaker 1: the cusp of this regular season and the month.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Yeah, and good Nick, Glad to see you boys again.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Glad to have Davo back after last week. We missed you.
- 0:55Speaker 2: We missed your catchphrase at the end, Mitcaptain Filanthia. So
- 0:59Speaker 2: always good to be in Steeters Football with you boys,
- 1:01Speaker 2: especially coming off the back of a win one an
- 1:03Speaker 2: absolute shootout yesterday evening. It was incredible to watch. Great
- 1:08Speaker 2: to say, you know, we will dig into it eventually.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Great to see Russell Wilson taking command of that offense
- 1:14Speaker 2: and the offense finally beginning to realize his potential. But
- 1:17Speaker 2: like you say, it is hard to believe that we
- 1:19Speaker 2: are now in December. The festest season is upon us.
- 1:23Speaker 2: December football is when it counts. We're getting down to
- 1:25Speaker 2: brass tacks and all of the various expressions he could have. So, look,
- 1:30Speaker 2: we're in a good position. We have a two game
- 1:32Speaker 2: lead over the Ravens in the AFC North. We're in
- 1:35Speaker 2: prime position to make a deep playoff run. I think, look,
- 1:39Speaker 2: there's always things to be improved on, and we will
- 1:41Speaker 2: get into that. But no, as a Steeters fan, I
- 1:44Speaker 2: have to say I'm pretty optimistic now about the way
- 1:46Speaker 2: our season is going and how far we can go.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think spot on Dvog was definitely this
- 1:54Speaker 1: last week. And Davil is funny because I think Jimmy
- 1:57Speaker 1: will have experienced the same thing, and a lot of
- 1:59Speaker 1: people listen to this podcast will have experienced that cold
- 2:02Speaker 1: snap last week, ironically, the same week that that snow
- 2:06Speaker 1: game happened in Cleveland. Will not reflect on that. But
- 2:09Speaker 1: it is good to see you back again Donald looking
- 2:11Speaker 1: very warm on very cozy there.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Yeah that do you know?
- 2:16Speaker 4: Apologize Lass for taking last week off. I just wasn't
- 2:19Speaker 4: feeling I felt under the weather. I think it might
- 2:21Speaker 4: have been just watching that snow game just popped me
- 2:23Speaker 4: off completely. But I probably chose the best week to
- 2:26Speaker 4: take it off because I was feeling because if there's
- 2:29Speaker 4: one team I hate losing to, it's the Cleveland Browns
- 2:32Speaker 4: and we get the next week a bit of paybacks
- 2:34Speaker 4: out to them. So last week our last night though,
- 2:38Speaker 4: was an incredible match to watch. Jimmy just alluded to
- 2:41Speaker 4: there as a massive shootout against a team that we
- 2:43Speaker 4: know the offensive pro est they you know they have,
- 2:46Speaker 4: and to come out to score forty four points even
- 2:48Speaker 4: written the group shot as well. Am I dreaming when
- 2:50Speaker 4: was the last time we scored? I think it was
- 2:51Speaker 4: twenty eighteen. I think I'm not mistake with big then,
- 2:55Speaker 4: So I think that just goes to show you, you know,
- 2:58Speaker 4: it was really It's like something I've never watched before.
- 3:01Speaker 4: But to see that there happen at this time of
- 3:04Speaker 4: the year, when there was so much question walking around
- 3:06Speaker 4: our offense couldn't have came at a batter time. So
- 3:08Speaker 4: I'm really looking forward to sort of breaking it down
- 3:10Speaker 4: you guys.
- 3:13Speaker 1: It was.
- 3:13Speaker 2: It was Week ten against the Carolina Panthers. Week ten
- 3:16Speaker 2: of twenty eighteen was the last time we scored.
- 3:18Speaker 5: We scored.
- 3:19Speaker 2: We scored fifty two points against Carolina, So that was
- 3:22Speaker 2: It's been a long time coming offensive wise.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Yeah, massive, massive score line on Sunday in that game,
- 3:30Speaker 1: and I think we would have took a three to
- 3:32Speaker 1: zero win and get a win again either there, just
- 3:35Speaker 1: to go on the road Jimmy and Cincinnati, especially when
- 3:39Speaker 1: we know the struggles that the Bengals have had this season.
- 3:42Speaker 1: We talked about it in the previous podcast, especially they
- 3:44Speaker 1: really struggled on the run game throughout the season. But
- 3:46Speaker 1: this was a real do or die game for this
- 3:50Speaker 1: Bengals team, and a team that came in four and
- 3:52Speaker 1: seven looking to move to five and seven have have
- 3:55Speaker 1: sort of dropped the four and eight there. For me,
- 3:58Speaker 1: it was that it was the performance from this team overall,
- 4:00Speaker 1: especially when Russell Wilson had that pick at the start
- 4:04Speaker 1: of the game. I think a lot of quarterbacks in
- 4:06Speaker 1: the league would have tucked that sat down and had
- 4:08Speaker 1: that play on their mind for a lot of it.
- 4:10Speaker 1: But Jimmy for the Steelers offense to sort of turn
- 4:13Speaker 1: around and just do something that is the hallmark of
- 4:16Speaker 1: a team that's going to be in the next going forward.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Stay in the game if the Bengals strike back, stay
- 4:21Speaker 1: in the game. A lot of teams, especially over the
- 4:23Speaker 1: last couple of years, not this season, didn't allow that
- 4:26Speaker 1: when they were playing the Bengals, And for me, it
- 4:28Speaker 1: was just it was fantastic to see him, and I
- 4:30Speaker 1: mean especially when there was a couple of hybrid options
- 4:34Speaker 1: as well a quarterback at time.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think the most important thing Mick
- 4:40Speaker 2: was that he didn't panic.
- 4:41Speaker 3: I mean, he's an experienced quarterback. He's been in this
- 4:44Speaker 3: situation before. I'm not gonna lie. I had my head
- 4:47Speaker 3: and my hands after that pick six by camera and
- 4:49Speaker 3: britt A contentious play. Some might argue was Pickings interfere
- 4:53Speaker 3: with you know, Steeters.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Fans could argue that he was I was pass interference there,
- 4:57Speaker 2: But look the rest at them play.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Like I said, Russell Wilson has just.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Really come into his own to the point where I
- 5:03Speaker 2: am and we said some previous podcasts, I'll put my
- 5:06Speaker 2: hand up and said I was wrong about the entire
- 5:09Speaker 2: Russell Wilson situation. I think a lot of us were wrong,
- 5:11Speaker 2: a lot of doubters about Wilson's ability to still play
- 5:15Speaker 2: at a high level.
- 5:16Speaker 3: But I think he's.
- 5:17Speaker 5: Hit over here.
- 5:17Speaker 2: I think it's close to five hundred yards of passing yesterday,
- 5:21Speaker 2: three touchdowns, and you look, he really has come into
- 5:25Speaker 2: his own as the leader of the offense, the leader
- 5:27Speaker 2: of this team. And then he mentioned that the dynamic
- 5:32Speaker 2: options a quarterback. Great to see Justin Field's coming in
- 5:35Speaker 2: and taking us to victory, pointing towards the next game
- 5:39Speaker 2: at the ends. But overall, a very very very very
- 5:43Speaker 2: positive performance, a very very encouraging performance and puts us
- 5:48Speaker 2: in a great position now not only in the ASC
- 5:50Speaker 2: North but also in the ASC overall.
- 5:54Speaker 1: We're just talking about the Ravens Inis second doalogue, but
- 5:57Speaker 1: just sort of pulling them what Jimmy said there. I look,
- 6:01Speaker 1: I was optimistic when when when Russell came in, but
- 6:03Speaker 1: certainly I didn't expect him to take to a duck
- 6:07Speaker 1: to water like this. It's it's been fresh to watch.
- 6:09Speaker 1: But when we brought in Justin at the end yesterday,
- 6:13Speaker 1: Tomlin masterclass. I don't want to say it because sometimes
- 6:16Speaker 1: it takes af Cahones, It takes o goods to actually
- 6:19Speaker 1: do that at that point in the game, and we
- 6:21Speaker 1: could have easily give the ball back to Cincinnati. And
- 6:23Speaker 1: on that coach Tomlin now extending his season, his his
- 6:28Speaker 1: winning season record, which is just amazing to see. And
- 6:31Speaker 1: hopefully we can go further and further this year.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Do you want mecha? He mentioned it in the press
- 6:36Speaker 4: conference a couple of weeks ago. It's why he's well compensated.
- 6:39Speaker 4: I mean, he has, we said narly as the stones
- 6:43Speaker 4: to make these decisions that most coaches just don't have,
- 6:46Speaker 4: like I mean, no matter what happens, and he you know,
- 6:49Speaker 4: in the media, they give him a lot of flak
- 6:50Speaker 4: for it. I mean when justin Faus, you know, when
- 6:52Speaker 4: he was bounced for us, you know a lot of
- 6:55Speaker 4: people including you know ourselves as well, we were thinking
- 6:57Speaker 4: is this the best decision for us going forward? He
- 6:59Speaker 4: had the stone to make that decision, and he went
- 7:01Speaker 4: on ahead and did it. And he's proven everybody wrong.
- 7:04Speaker 4: And just on Russ as well. You know, the most
- 7:07Speaker 4: I find that the most underrated characteristics someone can have,
- 7:10Speaker 4: his resilience and Jimmy just pointed out there as well,
- 7:13Speaker 4: the ability to bounce back when things aren't going your way. Russ,
- 7:16Speaker 4: shoot it again. I mean that was although of course
- 7:19Speaker 4: I'm gonna put my hands up and say, look, I
- 7:21Speaker 4: think George Beckany was you know, it was clear the
- 7:24Speaker 4: defensive pass interference, but to through that pick six, but
- 7:28Speaker 4: the Bengals up in a game where it's going to
- 7:30Speaker 4: be scored for score, it was always going to be
- 7:31Speaker 4: a high scoring game. And for him to be able
- 7:33Speaker 4: to bounce back and you know, to have that just
- 7:36Speaker 4: it just proves the resilience that he has. I mean
- 7:38Speaker 4: we mentioned it as well, and me and Jimmy were
- 7:40Speaker 4: at the Jets game. The first half was not a
- 7:42Speaker 4: good half and people were called for just feels to
- 7:44Speaker 4: be put in and luck with how he bounced back
- 7:46Speaker 4: in the second half. So he's got that resilience in
- 7:48Speaker 4: him and just how he was able to do that.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Shoot the leadership we get with Russ, and you know
- 7:52Speaker 4: that possitive play as well. I think that the touchdown
- 7:54Speaker 4: passed to Farmouth looked like prime Russell Wilson and is
- 7:57Speaker 4: absolutely prime in Seattle. Under severe pressure from the past,
- 8:00Speaker 4: extend the player with faking through an opposute down for
- 8:02Speaker 4: the touchdowns, So talk about rolling back the years and
- 8:05Speaker 4: I couldn't be more happier or where this team is
- 8:07Speaker 4: out of the moment. I don't think any of us
- 8:09Speaker 4: a couple of weeks ago would have imagined us ourselves
- 8:11Speaker 4: putting up forty four points. Although the Bengals defense, let's
- 8:14Speaker 4: be honest, not a lot to work with our I
- 8:16Speaker 4: do feel so sorry for Joe Burrow. I mean, he's
- 8:19Speaker 4: a quality talent, but I can only really look at
- 8:22Speaker 4: our offense and think, where are we out this stage?
- 8:25Speaker 4: You know, players at Calvin Austin's coming into the zone
- 8:27Speaker 4: pop firm if we've already mentioned and we can get
- 8:30Speaker 4: Mike Williams involved more in this pastume, I just sit
- 8:32Speaker 4: don't see any way of us.
- 8:34Speaker 3: I'm really really happy with how I thank you George Penny. Yeah,
- 8:39Speaker 3: just a to Jack make sorry.
- 8:40Speaker 2: I mean I think we should also kind of have
- 8:42Speaker 2: a little bit of balance to this. It wasn't an
- 8:44Speaker 2: entirely flawless performance, so let's not get overly carried away.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I mean our defense had splash plays, orright, we had
- 8:51Speaker 2: We did have the two strips, the two stripsacks, Peyton
- 8:54Speaker 2: Wilson's scoop and sort at the end to kind of
- 8:57Speaker 2: almost barry the Bengals was fantastic. We did give up
- 9:00Speaker 2: thirty eight points like that can continue to happen. I mean,
- 9:03Speaker 2: especially with the more dangerous opponents we are going to
- 9:06Speaker 2: fetch then this face down the stretch. We should have
- 9:08Speaker 2: the Eagles, we still have Patrick Mahones.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I really valuate and just sort of adding the Bengals,
- 9:13Speaker 1: Like I really value what Joe World brings to the table,
- 9:15Speaker 1: especially when he's got more of a limited cast this year.
- 9:19Speaker 1: So when I see that they score thirty or thirty
- 9:21Speaker 1: eight points, it doesn't surprise me, even like I know
- 9:24Speaker 1: how good that the Steelers defense is. And we've seen
- 9:28Speaker 1: Donte Jackson with that pick yesterday. We've seen with a
- 9:30Speaker 1: Cam Hebward of two sacks teach or Cam Heyward of
- 9:33Speaker 1: one sack. TJ had two, and at times this defense
- 9:37Speaker 1: has popped up, making players with the matters. I think
- 9:39Speaker 1: already if we look down the stretch and see a
- 9:42Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes, that Kansas City team bring it on. They're
- 9:46Speaker 1: not scoring points. They're not scoring they're not scoring, and
- 9:48Speaker 1: they're not playing on the way that they've had to.
- 9:50Speaker 1: And they have to come into the to the to
- 9:53Speaker 1: the dan shall we call it on on Christmas Day itself?
- 9:56Speaker 1: So I have to say for George Pickens, I did
- 9:59Speaker 1: enjoy that GM when he punted it into next week. Allow,
- 10:02Speaker 1: it's great to see a lot that we met in Flus,
- 10:04Speaker 1: Calvin Austin continuing to get big players. It's pretty cool,
- 10:07Speaker 1: Like I think, just generally as a guy that we've
- 10:11Speaker 1: met over here, it's pretty awesome and props to him.
- 10:14Speaker 1: I guess before we talk with this Rivens defeat yesterday,
- 10:17Speaker 1: as were to look ahead to next week, let's firstly
- 10:19Speaker 1: hear from coach Tomlin, who did ensure yesterday that he
- 10:23Speaker 1: will have a non losing season agame, which is really cool.
- 10:26Speaker 5: That's here from Coat.
- 10:27Speaker 6: It's good to go on the road and get in
- 10:28Speaker 6: the AFC North victory. No, it wasn't it easy one obviously, man,
- 10:33Speaker 6: particularly if you spot a group like that seven. They
- 10:36Speaker 6: had big time urgency man for a lot of reasons.
- 10:40Speaker 6: And so to come in here in their place, against
- 10:43Speaker 6: the type of quality team that they have and in
- 10:45Speaker 6: this environment and smile in the face of it and
- 10:49Speaker 6: get out of here with the necessary win, man, it
- 10:51Speaker 6: just can't say enough about the efforts of the guys
- 10:54Speaker 6: in their locker room, the splash play making continually over
- 10:57Speaker 6: the course of sixty minutes. We knew it would be required.
- 11:00Speaker 6: We even talked about the fourth quarter component. You know,
- 11:03Speaker 6: this team's all. This team we played today always come
- 11:06Speaker 6: storming back in the fourth. They did it against LAC
- 11:10Speaker 6: just from the front side of their by and so
- 11:13Speaker 6: we don't take the end of the game for granted. Man,
- 11:15Speaker 6: we're thankful for the victory. Obviously we got some things
- 11:17Speaker 6: to clean up, but that's that's life in this business.
- 11:21Speaker 6: It's good to do it with a w. Calvin Austin
- 11:25Speaker 6: is being evaluated for concussion. Other than that, it just
- 11:28Speaker 6: appears to be bumps and bruises associated with play.
- 11:31Speaker 5: Great to hear from coach.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Sam on the Irish Toitis podcast. Anybody want to give
- 11:35Speaker 1: their performer of the day before we hear from a
- 11:36Speaker 1: couple of players. I'm putting everybody in the spot here.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I like every time you guys say a farm with
- 11:40Speaker 1: I want to shout move or scream move, But I'm
- 11:43Speaker 1: gonna keep myself for the least week sixteen, week seventeen.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Any players stound out louds that maybe we haven't talked
- 11:48Speaker 1: about it I know he's mentioned Russell Wilson there.
- 11:51Speaker 2: I'm actually gonna go with a bit of a wild
- 11:53Speaker 2: card here, and it's a player to be picked up
- 11:55Speaker 2: in the off season that I had questions about giving
- 11:57Speaker 2: his given his age and you know, possibly conversations Raul
- 12:01Speaker 2: was he passed and he is a former very very
- 12:05Speaker 2: extrossive player and we saw a little bit of that
- 12:07Speaker 2: yesterday on one of the carries he had in relief
- 12:09Speaker 2: of Maggie Harrison. That is Coral Patterson very very impressed
- 12:12Speaker 2: with his contributions yesterday. He came in and Nudge obviously
- 12:16Speaker 2: had some issues on a handoff and saw him stumble
- 12:19Speaker 2: a little bit, had to go to the sideline, and
- 12:22Speaker 2: I thought Coral Patterson spelled him very nicely. So great
- 12:25Speaker 2: to see him making an impact, a positive impact on
- 12:28Speaker 2: the team, I suppose at this stage of his career.
- 12:31Speaker 3: So you know, he definitely stood out to me.
- 12:33Speaker 2: And then Peyton Wilson like just won an absolute to
- 12:37Speaker 2: be a rookie, you know, being drafted in the third
- 12:41Speaker 2: round at the NC State I think it was. And
- 12:42Speaker 2: now he's a regular contributor on defense. He's an integral
- 12:46Speaker 2: part of that defensive unit. He's had a couple of
- 12:49Speaker 2: big plays. Recently, he had a fourth bumble or I
- 12:52Speaker 2: think it was an interception against Baltimore a couple of
- 12:54Speaker 2: weeks ago, and now he had the scoop and score
- 12:57Speaker 2: for a touchdown that was reminiscent of TJ. Wadd almost
- 13:00Speaker 2: And so I know, I've been very impressed with him
- 13:02Speaker 2: so far. This seasonde have.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Obviously when Jimmy mentioned players that Cordel Patterson, is there
- 13:08Speaker 1: anybody else a dull stand out to you? Do you
- 13:10Speaker 1: like the way Justin came in had done that on
- 13:12Speaker 1: that third down play? Or was there anybody else that's that?
- 13:14Speaker 1: I feel just the overall.
- 13:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I know you imagine it, but Justin fails. I mean,
- 13:18Speaker 4: I think I read a tweet earlier. I think the
- 13:20Speaker 4: whole world a part in the Cincinnati Bengals team knew
- 13:23Speaker 4: Justin Fieler was going to keep the ball, but he
- 13:25Speaker 4: still had to do it. I mean, you know, especially
- 13:28Speaker 4: after loss or against the Ravens where he slid too early,
- 13:32Speaker 4: he was like, I'm getting this first down in amyationate
- 13:34Speaker 4: for the for the team. So he definitely deserves a
- 13:36Speaker 4: shout out. And of course, Russell Wilson, we've mentioned Russell Wilson.
- 13:40Speaker 4: I think we've we've pretty much blown as trumpet all
- 13:42Speaker 4: all so far, and but defensively, I mean it's no surprise.
- 13:45Speaker 4: I'm gonna bring up here mc nick Herberg again. Massive play.
- 13:49Speaker 4: I mean, how quick is he just getting off that
- 13:51Speaker 4: line of scrimmage. I mean before you know it, you know,
- 13:54Speaker 4: he's hands on Joe Burrows forces the fumble, and as
- 13:57Speaker 4: Jimmy's just said, Peyton Wilson was able to scoop it
- 13:59Speaker 4: up and score. So our defense just has an unlimited
- 14:03Speaker 4: amount of talent where no matter who steps out, we
- 14:05Speaker 4: have another player that's ready to come back in TJ. Watt,
- 14:08Speaker 4: who's had a quat couple of weeks of course for
- 14:10Speaker 4: his standards, two sacks, a strip, fumble, fist, forced fumble
- 14:14Speaker 4: of the year just incredible again, So of course.
- 14:17Speaker 3: We did give up.
- 14:18Speaker 4: You know what was the thirty eight points. I still
- 14:20Speaker 4: feel the defense still show. I think we've just still
- 14:22Speaker 4: been a kneel down these fanalies and Joey Porter Junior,
- 14:25Speaker 4: I mean five panalties was it just not good enough
- 14:27Speaker 4: of this level. So he has that to work on,
- 14:29Speaker 4: but there is still room to improvement. But of of
- 14:32Speaker 4: course on the offensive side of the ball, as Jimmy's
- 14:34Speaker 4: probably said Cordell Polson, particularly earlier on when Nage had
- 14:37Speaker 4: to come out. I think he had too much Thanksgiving
- 14:40Speaker 4: Thanksgiving dinner. I think he wented and he came in
- 14:43Speaker 4: and he stepped in and he was able to keep
- 14:45Speaker 4: pick up a few key first downs. So really I
- 14:47Speaker 4: could have a whole list here and written out with
- 14:49Speaker 4: every player that stapped up, because they all did. But yeah,
- 14:52Speaker 4: for me, the three guys would have to be Russell Wilson,
- 14:55Speaker 4: Nick Herbig and and probably you know TJ. Watt for
- 14:58Speaker 4: me stood out particularly.
- 15:00Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 15:01Speaker 1: TJ leads the league with five force foombolls. Nick Herbig
- 15:05Speaker 1: is second before he was the highest read the player
- 15:09Speaker 1: for PFF on Sunday with the Steters. So it says
- 15:11Speaker 1: a lot of Bengo. That's here from a couple of
- 15:13Speaker 1: guys on the roster. Before we do look ahead to this,
- 15:15Speaker 1: Revens give him und up a week's podcast. We hear
- 15:17Speaker 1: from Russell Wilson on TJ walk on the Irish Steeters.
- 15:23Speaker 7: Yeah, I thought we had a great day and it
- 15:24Speaker 7: all starts off as the line. I thought they did
- 15:25Speaker 7: a tremendous job. You know, multiple looks up front and
- 15:28Speaker 7: all the things they do in the multiplicity of their defense.
- 15:31Speaker 7: I thought, you know, the O line handled it in
- 15:33Speaker 7: a great way. I got to a lot of checks,
- 15:35Speaker 7: a lot of audibles, a lot of moments in time
- 15:37Speaker 7: and in the run game, in the pass game, getting
- 15:39Speaker 7: the stuff that you know was favorable looks and everything else.
- 15:41Speaker 7: And I just think guys did a great job making plays.
- 15:44Speaker 7: I mean, I thought, I thought George made a great
- 15:47Speaker 7: catch down the sideline. I thought Pat's plays on his
- 15:49Speaker 7: scrambles and also to just how he was clear, painting
- 15:53Speaker 7: clear pictures. I always say, you know, the best receivers
- 15:55Speaker 7: are always playing a clear pictures. Those guys were painting
- 15:57Speaker 7: great pictures today.
- 15:59Speaker 5: You know.
- 15:59Speaker 7: I thought the guys made it a lot of plays.
- 16:01Speaker 7: I thought Nags ran the ball extremely well. That was
- 16:03Speaker 7: huge for us in our run game. And he just
- 16:06Speaker 7: had a great day man. And I thought just everybody
- 16:09Speaker 7: was a great team effort. And then when you see
- 16:10Speaker 7: the defense just respond make plays for us. After we
- 16:13Speaker 7: have some great responses, they made a huge play, obviously.
- 16:17Speaker 7: I thought Herbert had a great game rushing off the edge.
- 16:19Speaker 5: TJ. Obviously he's best in the world. Cam Heyward. You know,
- 16:23Speaker 5: our our our leaders, you know, really stepped up in
- 16:25Speaker 5: a huge way today. I think that was really critical.
- 16:28Speaker 7: Obviously, it was always cool cool to see my fellow
- 16:30Speaker 7: in C State Guyton Peyton Wilson scored a touchdown to
- 16:33Speaker 7: so just it was just fun, man. We just had
- 16:35Speaker 7: a great time. We knew it was a matchup. We
- 16:36Speaker 7: knew it was gonna be heavyweight fight. I kept telling
- 16:38Speaker 7: the guys, it's gonna be a heavyweight fight, and we
- 16:40Speaker 7: got to win it.
- 16:41Speaker 5: Because of that. The offense responded knowing that he might
- 16:44Speaker 5: turn into Yeah.
- 16:45Speaker 7: I mean, I thought, I thought the big best thing
- 16:47Speaker 7: we did today was respond in the midst of adversity,
- 16:49Speaker 7: you know. You know, I thought that we did a
- 16:52Speaker 7: great job of scoring touchdowns, making plays. We felt like
- 16:55Speaker 7: there was more plays out there too that we could
- 16:57Speaker 7: have had, you know, but you know, what it really
- 17:00Speaker 7: is is a testament to our coaching staff, is a
- 17:02Speaker 7: testament to our players, you know, and our our work
- 17:05Speaker 7: ethic and the discipline.
- 17:06Speaker 5: That we put into the to the week.
- 17:08Speaker 7: And we knew that this was gonna be, like I said,
- 17:10Speaker 7: a heavyweight fight, and we had to respond and and
- 17:13Speaker 7: you know, keep swinging.
- 17:15Speaker 3: The confidence you talked about the spawning in the basic diversity.
- 17:19Speaker 5: Obviously, don't want to start with the pick six. What
- 17:21Speaker 5: did you see on that play? What did you take
- 17:22Speaker 5: the balance matter? Yeah, you know George's run, the slant,
- 17:25Speaker 5: you know, they kind of pulled them down.
- 17:26Speaker 7: To be honest with you, we tried to throw it
- 17:28Speaker 7: on time and rhythm and you know, uh, you know,
- 17:31Speaker 7: we thought that you know, we could have gotten you know,
- 17:32Speaker 7: a penalty there, but they they did a good job.
- 17:35Speaker 5: Of making that play and it's just football.
- 17:37Speaker 7: It was one of those you know, Uh, as soon
- 17:39Speaker 7: as I threw it, you know, George you know went
- 17:41Speaker 7: to the ground and you know it's just on. But
- 17:43Speaker 7: you know, more than anything else though, I just, like
- 17:46Speaker 7: I was said earlier, I just think our response was great.
- 17:48Speaker 4: You know.
- 17:49Speaker 7: I thought that we did a really good job of
- 17:50Speaker 7: staying confident and and not letting one play face us.
- 17:54Speaker 7: You know, I always say to the guys, are seventy
- 17:56Speaker 7: five plays and we want to have a collection of
- 17:58Speaker 7: great moments, and I think that we did that today.
- 18:01Speaker 5: What does it do for the offense type this type
- 18:02Speaker 5: of performances.
- 18:03Speaker 7: You guys are had done the stretch run, Yeah, I
- 18:06Speaker 7: think that what it means is that we did a
- 18:07Speaker 7: great job today. That's what it means, and it gives
- 18:10Speaker 7: us a lot of momentum and everything else.
- 18:12Speaker 5: But we've got to use it for good, you know.
- 18:14Speaker 5: We got to be able to respond.
- 18:15Speaker 7: We've got to be better next week obviously, you know,
- 18:17Speaker 7: for us coming off the Cleveland game, and it was
- 18:20Speaker 7: a tough matchup, you know, tough environment, all those things.
- 18:22Speaker 7: We thought we should have won that game too, you know,
- 18:25Speaker 7: and we didn't finish the way we needed it to
- 18:27Speaker 7: in the last you know, three four minutes of that game.
- 18:30Speaker 7: I thought that this time we did which is good.
- 18:33Speaker 7: We learned something and I think that was really good
- 18:35Speaker 7: for us. And I think the biggest thing is is that,
- 18:38Speaker 7: you know, all these games are you know, every game matters,
- 18:41Speaker 7: and the reality is is that all these games, you know,
- 18:43Speaker 7: are going to feel like playoff games, you know, and
- 18:45Speaker 7: it's getting us ready for where.
- 18:46Speaker 5: We want to go and what we want to do.
- 18:47Speaker 7: But I kept telling the guys throughout the game and
- 18:50Speaker 7: a halftime and throughout the game, we haven't done nothing yet.
- 18:52Speaker 5: We haven't done nothing yet. We got to finish. We
- 18:53Speaker 5: got to finish.
- 18:54Speaker 7: We gotta do it right and it's the same thing
- 18:56Speaker 7: in respect of the season. You know, we just got
- 18:58Speaker 7: to keep swinging and keep responding.
- 19:00Speaker 8: Yeah. Huge obviously AFC North football, especially on the road.
- 19:04Speaker 8: If you want the ball to come through Pittsburgh, you
- 19:05Speaker 8: have to win on the road, especially in the North.
- 19:07Speaker 8: And it feels great to get a win. We knew
- 19:09Speaker 8: it was gonna be a shootout. Our offense did a
- 19:11Speaker 8: great job of putting up points for us out a
- 19:13Speaker 8: hell of a day and we were able to create
- 19:15Speaker 8: splash h Dante again and obviously her her guys that
- 19:19Speaker 8: are continuing to show up and that stuff that we
- 19:23Speaker 8: preach again. Denzel Martin has been key point of takeaways
- 19:26Speaker 8: and everybody wanting T shirts and all that stuff. So
- 19:29Speaker 8: it's been a good culture so far.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Know the offense can do.
- 19:33Speaker 5: That in a game where you're gonna need them when
- 19:36Speaker 5: you play.
- 19:38Speaker 8: I mean, elite defensive spend a lot of time on
- 19:40Speaker 8: the bench. I've said it ever since I've been here,
- 19:42Speaker 8: and we've been spending a lot of time on the
- 19:44Speaker 8: bench this year, and it's been great to see the
- 19:47Speaker 8: offense continue to move the ball like they are.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Strip sack of the momentum.
- 19:51Speaker 5: You thought maybe a cage your team, just trying to
- 19:54Speaker 5: make a play.
- 19:54Speaker 8: Uh, just anytime we're on the ball, just trying to
- 19:57Speaker 8: continue to ball search and try to make a create
- 20:00Speaker 8: a turnover.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Uh.
- 20:01Speaker 8: Joe did a great job all all game of stepping
- 20:04Speaker 8: up through that B gap and uh climbing the pocket.
- 20:07Speaker 8: And that was just a way of retracing a game
- 20:09Speaker 8: after football and creating a play.
- 20:12Speaker 5: Lined up seven of them spots in this game. That's
- 20:14Speaker 5: something you guys are saving for this week, is this opponent.
- 20:16Speaker 5: Is that's something that you guys have been working on.
- 20:18Speaker 8: The feature just something to we're continue to work on.
- 20:21Speaker 8: I think I told you guys on Friday, like we're
- 20:23Speaker 8: gonna continue to try to move around and find those
- 20:26Speaker 8: one on one matchups, the matchups throughout the week and
- 20:29Speaker 8: something we're dipping our toe in the water. And I'm
- 20:32Speaker 8: sure the package will continue to grow, or not even
- 20:34Speaker 8: a package, but moving around will continue to grow as
- 20:36Speaker 8: the year goes on. This year, I mean, he's an
- 20:42Speaker 8: old dude that's playing in some really good football, very stout.
- 20:45Speaker 8: I know he wants to be out there every snap,
- 20:46Speaker 8: but he's making every single snap that he's in their
- 20:48Speaker 8: count A guy that's just a true leader, true Steeler,
- 20:52Speaker 8: one helmet guy.
- 20:54Speaker 5: He is.
- 20:55Speaker 8: He he he preaches installing kick ass uh all week
- 20:58Speaker 8: him and Dunbar and he goes out there each and
- 21:00Speaker 8: every week and shows why he's one of the best
- 21:02Speaker 8: in the world.
- 21:03Speaker 5: You guys, I've talked about Joe rolling out to us
- 21:05Speaker 5: right looking out the field. How much of that stripsack
- 21:08Speaker 5: was the notes by design to try to get him
- 21:10Speaker 5: in those situations then to get after him.
- 21:13Speaker 8: Yeah, early on we weren't doing that, and he was
- 21:15Speaker 8: able to climb and create those, uh those extended plays
- 21:19Speaker 8: and they're very good at it, especially one coming across
- 21:22Speaker 8: on some dig routes and stuff extensions, and uh, it
- 21:25Speaker 8: just got to a point where, like when you get
- 21:27Speaker 8: to the top of the rush, we need to come
- 21:28Speaker 8: back down and able to make a play and get
- 21:31Speaker 8: paid off.
- 21:33Speaker 5: Great to hear from the guys.
- 21:34Speaker 1: And just before we runed off this podcast, we do
- 21:37Speaker 1: have to mention this because it's relevant to Jimmy. Like
- 21:40Speaker 1: we obviously give a game against the Brons there on
- 21:42Speaker 1: this week coming into just coming into this weekend, and
- 21:45Speaker 1: we will talk about that on a different podcast. TV
- 21:48Speaker 1: situation is TBC in terms of Sky Sports or game
- 21:52Speaker 1: past as of time of recording. We will let people
- 21:54Speaker 1: know on social media of course, Theeters Ireland on ACCE
- 21:57Speaker 1: on Instagram for that. A real upper unity here, Jimmy
- 22:00Speaker 1: and I feel like I said it every week, but
- 22:01Speaker 1: it really is. When you've got a Staters team that
- 22:03Speaker 1: are sitting nine and flight that know of the eight
- 22:07Speaker 1: and five Ravens who have lost to the Eagles on
- 22:10Speaker 1: Sunday or a bye week, that's absolutely huge. More So,
- 22:15Speaker 1: you know, like, look, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna
- 22:19Speaker 1: be too negative on the Ravens there. I'll give them
- 22:21Speaker 1: their flowers. Then there's my joke of the week. But
- 22:25Speaker 1: the Eagle bo excellence on the basically they were excellent.
- 22:29Speaker 1: So I'm not going to get to you know, too
- 22:32Speaker 1: positive or too you know, too excited here. Certainly there's
- 22:36Speaker 1: an opportunity here, you know, if you expect the standard here,
- 22:39Speaker 1: you go out, you beat Cleveland Sunday and you really
- 22:42Speaker 1: develop that gap in the AFC or especially when we've
- 22:44Speaker 1: got a number of difficult matchups coming up, including the
- 22:47Speaker 1: game against Baltimore. That game against Baltimore on the Saturday
- 22:50Speaker 1: night now seems huge. On December to twenty first, yeah.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Absolutely make I think as well.
- 22:58Speaker 2: What's going to happen is that I honestly think the
- 23:00Speaker 2: last game against the Browns was it was a bit
- 23:02Speaker 2: of a blip. We fell into the classic kind of
- 23:05Speaker 2: trap game mindset, our mentality that you know, these guys
- 23:07Speaker 2: are sitting with the with the record that they have
- 23:09Speaker 2: the basement of the AOC North. I think given that
- 23:12Speaker 2: the beating that we just delivered to the Bengals, I
- 23:16Speaker 2: would be expecting a similar situation with the Browns. And
- 23:22Speaker 2: look at like you said, it's it's a fantastic opportunity
- 23:25Speaker 2: for us to now sees or.
- 23:27Speaker 3: Or continue to put a choke called on the AOC North.
- 23:29Speaker 2: I mean, like, if it's like any any given Sunday,
- 23:33Speaker 2: the Browns, but we could go back in and have
- 23:35Speaker 2: an absolute stinker and next Sunday, I don't.
- 23:38Speaker 5: I don't think we will.
- 23:39Speaker 3: I think it kind of we got that out of
- 23:41Speaker 3: our system on the Thursday night game.
- 23:45Speaker 2: I think now with our our three arguably our three
- 23:47Speaker 2: toughest games of the season coming up in a row
- 23:50Speaker 2: against the Eagles, Ravens and then the Chiefs and Christmas State,
- 23:53Speaker 2: the one we've been looking for for to since the
- 23:55Speaker 2: schedule was released I think the Steelers are finally now
- 24:00Speaker 2: look there, it's getting down towards the postseason. We have
- 24:03Speaker 2: found our groove offensively. I think on the back of
- 24:06Speaker 2: that performance, defense kind of woke up a little bit
- 24:09Speaker 2: with t J. Watt, as they've mentioned that, he kind
- 24:11Speaker 2: of came out of his hibernation a little bit and
- 24:14Speaker 2: made his presence styles even when he wasn't he wasn't
- 24:16Speaker 2: making tackles or making sacks. So like, it's still still
- 24:21Speaker 2: very much reflux, but though I am a lot more
- 24:23Speaker 2: confident a better a better game against the Browns on
- 24:25Speaker 2: the back of that performance against the Bengals.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Penultimate regular season home game coming up this week against
- 24:32Speaker 1: the Browns, so great to.
- 24:33Speaker 5: Have a game at home.
- 24:34Speaker 1: Just any takeaway from that Eagle from that Revens performance
- 24:38Speaker 1: against the Eagles, they couldn't get it going, and I
- 24:40Speaker 1: think it's going to be a real blueprint for coach
- 24:43Speaker 1: Tomnell and his team to look out over the next week.
- 24:45Speaker 1: It's because Dereck Henry looked like a little child on Sunday.
- 24:49Speaker 1: I'm joking Ravens fans, but he was definitely stifled.
- 24:53Speaker 4: Yeah, that that head up that was a Beckybridge in incredible.
- 24:58Speaker 4: He really did sip dark and down. But I think
- 25:01Speaker 4: we have you mentioned about a blueprint. I think it
- 25:03Speaker 4: was actually us that's a through blueprint. I think maybe
- 25:05Speaker 4: next to Riannie was paying attention to us, but I was.
- 25:08Speaker 4: I was cheering on that Eagles team or our friends
- 25:11Speaker 4: over in western Pennsylvania. Although we have to come up
- 25:13Speaker 4: against them in a couple of weeks. That has a
- 25:15Speaker 4: massive favor because we've now reinstated that two game, a
- 25:18Speaker 4: cushion that we have in the fcn RF. So just
- 25:21Speaker 4: as you said, it's a massive opportunity. I mean, coming
- 25:24Speaker 4: up against this Browns team who will be on a
- 25:26Speaker 4: short week and they're playing the night against the Broncos,
- 25:28Speaker 4: I believe difficult game, and I think it's an away
- 25:30Speaker 4: game as well, so we owe them massively. I mean,
- 25:34Speaker 4: you know, Jimmy's mentioned they're a better chop game. The
- 25:37Speaker 4: fact that we had to play in a blizzard as
- 25:39Speaker 4: well just did not help our case. I mean, whenever
- 25:41Speaker 4: a blizzard happens, any team can win, doesn't matter how
- 25:44Speaker 4: good you are, and I believe we owe them massively,
- 25:46Speaker 4: So gonna go in confident. Of course, we'll get the
- 25:49Speaker 4: previewed a bit later in the week. But yeah, just
- 25:52Speaker 4: thanks for spotting me there. It's eastern Pennsylvania. Sorry, I'm
- 25:55Speaker 4: not because it's geography or Jimmy Sorry and no, really
- 26:00Speaker 4: really and looking forward to this someday. We owe them
- 26:02Speaker 4: massively and I'm pretty confident probable we'll get the review
- 26:05Speaker 4: our tie previewed at that earlier in the week.
- 26:08Speaker 1: The yeah, they do play Monday night. If you listen
- 26:10Speaker 1: to this podcast afterwards, that's why you hear though we're
- 26:13Speaker 1: recording on the Monday evening lads. Welling back later on
- 26:15Speaker 1: the week, folks do that's when your faut ahead of
- 26:17Speaker 1: this Browns game. Steelers Ireland on x, Instagram and TikTok
