- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean. Here it is.
- 0:14Friday it is the war. It's the 13th of September.
- 0:20Friday the 13th. Watch out for those Black Cats
- 0:23and ladders leaning against buildings, over footpaths and
- 0:26all those sorts of things, if you're into that.
- 0:28But the good news is superstition does not need to
- 0:32have any kind of hold of our lives.
- 0:34So we can say today might be Friday the 13th, but what a
- 0:37cracking day it is going to be. In fact, today we continue,
- 0:41backpacks on our backs, heading up that hill.
- 0:44This is a song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem, a Psalm
- 0:48of David. And as we well, I guess today we
- 0:53can celebrate the fact that we don't have to be ruled by
- 0:56superstition today. This Psalm is a short one.
- 0:59It's only three verses long. And it is a beautiful Psalm that
- 1:04says that we get to live in humble subservience to a
- 1:09glorious God. Yes.
- 1:12We are not the masters of our own destiny.
- 1:15We are not subject to the evil ways of this world and the
- 1:19superstitions that would control us.
- 1:21No, we get to come before the mighty God of love and live
- 1:27according to his plans for us, with humility and with
- 1:31quietness. And that is what this Psalm is
- 1:34all about. So let us put down the busyness
- 1:39of our minds. Let's breathe deeply and find
- 1:46that silence in our hearts so that we can hear these words of
- 1:53our God as spoken to us in Psalm 131.
- 2:08Lord, my heart is not proud. My eyes are not haughty.
- 2:15I don't concern myself with matters too great or too awesome
- 2:20for me to grasp. Instead, I have calmed and
- 2:26quieted myself like a weaned child who no longer cries for
- 2:31its mother's milk. Yes, like a weaned child is my
- 2:36soul within me. O Israel, put your hope in the
- 2:43Lord now and always. Father, as our hearts become
- 3:00troubled with the big things of this world, settle our hearts.
- 3:08Remind us that our hearts don't live in this world or in a
- 3:13vacuum, but our hearts live before You, our loving, gracious
- 3:20God, in whose company we realise that you have won the battle,
- 3:29that You have provided everything that we will need,
- 3:33and that we can sit before You in absolute peace and certainty
- 3:39of Your goodness and Your provision for us.
- 3:43So we, along with Israel, put our hope in you, Lord Jesus, now
- 3:52and always. Amen.
