- 0:59Speaker 2: thing since my stepfather, Jack Bailey. Jack passed away recently
- 1:05Speaker 2: at the age of ninety. Of the many things I'm
- 1:07Speaker 2: grateful for in my life, the fact that he raised
- 1:11Speaker 2: me as his own son is near the top of
- 1:13Speaker 2: the list. My parents divorced when I was three, and
- 1:17Speaker 2: my mother got remarried to Jack when I was eight.
- 1:20Speaker 2: My biological dad was still a big part of my life,
- 1:23Speaker 2: but for most of my childhood, Jack paid the bills,
- 1:26Speaker 2: provided guidance and discipline, and served as a great role model.
- 1:31Speaker 2: As I've gotten older, I've often thought about how difficult
- 1:34Speaker 2: that had to be. Within a few years of marrying
- 1:37Speaker 2: my mom, Jack was supporting a typically moody teenage boy
- 1:41Speaker 2: who was undoubtedly a frequent pain in the butt. But
- 1:45Speaker 2: even though I was in his flesh and blood, he
- 1:47Speaker 2: put up with me and gave me love, encouragement, and understanding.
- 1:52Speaker 2: He was a kind, fun loving man and a great dad.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Thank you, Jack Bailey for changing my life. Now time
- 2:01Speaker 2: for football. One of my favorite offseason guests on this
- 2:05Speaker 2: podcast is Joe Goodberry. He's been writing and talking about
- 2:08Speaker 2: the Bengals for nearly two decades, and if you're not
- 2:11Speaker 2: already watching his Bengals on the Brain videos on YouTube,
- 2:15Speaker 2: presented by First Star Logistics, you're missing out on some
- 2:19Speaker 2: tremendous content. As we all begin to look ahead the
- 2:22Speaker 2: free agency and the draft, it's a great time to
- 2:25Speaker 2: visit with Joe. Joe is the Bengals off season mission
- 2:31Speaker 2: as simple as fix the defense. And if so, how
- 2:34Speaker 2: realistic is that to do in this offseason?
- 2:38Speaker 3: I think it is the mission, it's a I think
- 2:40Speaker 3: the unrealistic part is that it's probably been the mission
- 2:43Speaker 3: for two years. And you know, you don't get too
- 2:46Speaker 3: many chances to swing at a ball right down the middle, right,
- 2:48Speaker 3: So like they have to put the bet on it
- 2:50Speaker 3: this time.
- 2:51Speaker 4: Not too many baseball references today, so we'll get it
- 2:53Speaker 4: out now.
- 2:54Speaker 3: But yeah, they have an opportunity in front of them.
- 2:56Speaker 3: They have the seventh most cap space, they have a
- 2:58Speaker 3: tenth pick in the draft. They've spent a lot of
- 3:00Speaker 3: picks on defense guys that actually started to show some
- 3:03Speaker 3: promise towards the end of the year. Those are good things.
- 3:06Speaker 3: Now can you add to it? Can you add the
- 3:07Speaker 3: right players? It sounds like they want specific things. They
- 3:10Speaker 3: want pass rush. Duke Tobin said. It sounds like they
- 3:13Speaker 3: need leaders. Duke and Zach both said that in their
- 3:15Speaker 3: final press conferences, and need guys that can lead that room,
- 3:19Speaker 3: lead the film room, lead the guys to do the
- 3:20Speaker 3: right thing. So I wouldn't be surprised if we get
- 3:23Speaker 3: a heavy dose of veterans, guys that have played and
- 3:27Speaker 3: spend that tenth pick on a guy that's probably your
- 3:29Speaker 3: most talented defensive player that they've had. Even though they've
- 3:31Speaker 3: spent some high picks, we're talking about the tenth pick
- 3:33Speaker 3: here that could be a really good impact.
- 3:36Speaker 2: With that cap space. What position or positions should they
- 3:41Speaker 2: start with.
- 3:42Speaker 3: I always struggle with the position question at this point
- 3:45Speaker 3: in the offseason, whether it's talking about the draft, because
- 3:48Speaker 3: everyone gets so consumed with oh, they need this, they
- 3:50Speaker 3: need that, and same for free agency. Free agency happens first,
- 3:52Speaker 3: so I get it more. I don't tend to prioritize
- 3:55Speaker 3: by a position if I was looking at it. If
- 3:57Speaker 3: I were to advise them and say, I would say, look,
- 3:59Speaker 3: you're looking for value players. We understand you're not going
- 4:01Speaker 3: to go for those tier one free agents. You're not
- 4:03Speaker 3: going to give multi years of guaranteed money. You never
- 4:05Speaker 3: have to an outside free agent. You've had success though
- 4:08Speaker 3: in free agency finding that tier two, tier three wave
- 4:12Speaker 3: of guys. If you can replicate that, another Mike Hilton,
- 4:15Speaker 3: the Chadobia, Woozie, Von Bell, Djet Reader would be a
- 4:19Speaker 3: great addition to the twenty twenty six teams. So you
- 4:23Speaker 3: got to play in those waters I understand that it's
- 4:25Speaker 3: not so much prioritizing positions. While I say pass rush,
- 4:28Speaker 3: that could be a D end, that could be a
- 4:29Speaker 3: D tackle. I think they desperately need interior more than
- 4:32Speaker 3: edge help. But they're harder to find, and it's hard
- 4:35Speaker 3: to find in the draft. Those are harder to find.
- 4:37Speaker 3: A free agency, they get paid more.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Because of it.
- 4:39Speaker 3: So if you could say, all right, well, there's potentially
- 4:42Speaker 3: a defensive end that here is at a good value,
- 4:44Speaker 3: a Tier two type free agent, we're going to go
- 4:47Speaker 3: in that direction, I would say, fine, go ahead. You
- 4:49Speaker 3: know you got to get pieces on this team. You
- 4:51Speaker 3: need more tailent on the defensive side. If you said
- 4:53Speaker 3: we need a veteran linebacker to go with our two
- 4:55Speaker 3: young guys. We still like Bret Carter, but we still like
- 4:57Speaker 3: to Meetris Knight. We believe in them in year two.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Let's not put all of our eggs in that basket.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Let's give them a third linebacker to rotate with or
- 5:05Speaker 3: be on the field with them and support them. I
- 5:08Speaker 3: would be in favor of that. Plus, linebacker doesn't get
- 5:10Speaker 3: paid too often in free agency. You could probably find
- 5:12Speaker 3: a value there. If you say we want to go
- 5:13Speaker 3: get a safety to pair with Jordan Battle and still
- 5:16Speaker 3: be open to Caleb Downs in the draft.
- 5:18Speaker 4: I think this is a great free agency class.
- 5:20Speaker 3: And I don't think they're all going to get paid either,
- 5:22Speaker 3: because there's no Jesse Bates in this free agency.
- 5:24Speaker 4: But there are so many of them.
- 5:26Speaker 3: There's probably eight quality starters up to ten quality starters
- 5:30Speaker 3: and free agency this year at safety that that's going
- 5:32Speaker 3: to start to bring their money down a little bit.
- 5:35Speaker 4: And that's right in the bengals wielhouse.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Not to make them sound like they're cheap, but what
- 5:38Speaker 3: they do is they pinpoint their targets, right. They pinpoint
- 5:42Speaker 3: the guys that will take a Bengals like contract, and
- 5:45Speaker 3: if you can get the right guys, I think they
- 5:46Speaker 3: can rebuild this pretty quickly.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Have you looked at the class closely enough to have
- 5:51Speaker 2: specific players that you would like them to go for.
- 5:55Speaker 3: I have, so I've been doing a lot of free
- 5:57Speaker 3: agency now, doing a lot of free agency videos, looking
- 5:59Speaker 3: at players like Brian Cook, safety from Kansas City, who
- 6:03Speaker 3: is a Cincinnati alum. Right, and this is a guy
- 6:05Speaker 3: that's had very good success in a complex defense as
- 6:09Speaker 3: a free safety. And I think if the Bengals want
- 6:11Speaker 3: to say we need a free safety. Again, there aren't
- 6:14Speaker 3: many in pre agency. There aren't too many true free
- 6:16Speaker 3: safeties in the league, and I think Brian Cook is
- 6:18Speaker 3: one of them and could prepare really well with the
- 6:20Speaker 3: Jordan battle or if they wanted to go kleb Downs,
- 6:21Speaker 3: I think that would free up Downs to do whatever
- 6:23Speaker 3: you wanted to do on the defensive side, which is
- 6:25Speaker 3: you know, in free agency you kind of want to
- 6:27Speaker 3: keep that in mind that you do have a tenth pick.
- 6:28Speaker 3: If you're going to spend it on a premium position,
- 6:30Speaker 3: let's not bury that rookie by signing too many guys
- 6:33Speaker 3: at that position. If it happens and works out that way.
- 6:35Speaker 3: But I'm a big fan of a lot of safeties
- 6:37Speaker 3: in the class. One that's an underrated's Nick Cross from
- 6:40Speaker 3: the Inddeapolis Colts. This is a guy we scored really
- 6:43Speaker 3: high pre draft and he started pretty much last two
- 6:46Speaker 3: and a half years for them. He is only twenty
- 6:47Speaker 3: four years old right now, in four years playing in
- 6:50Speaker 3: the NFL. Who's a freak athlete, and he's six two
- 6:53Speaker 3: hundred and twenty pounds runs a four to three four
- 6:56Speaker 3: coming out of the.
- 6:57Speaker 4: Virginia four years ago.
- 6:59Speaker 3: He he's still super athletic, but he's a strong safety
- 7:02Speaker 3: and it's kind of a box slot linebacker type. But
- 7:05Speaker 3: I think people would be surprised to know that Jordan
- 7:07Speaker 3: Battle played as much free safety or I should say
- 7:09Speaker 3: deep safety, because the Bengals were a very split safety
- 7:11Speaker 3: team as Geno Stone last year. So you could find
- 7:14Speaker 3: a strong safety type or a split safety type to
- 7:17Speaker 3: pair with Battle, and I think you can find that.
- 7:19Speaker 3: So keep your eyes open for any type of safety,
- 7:21Speaker 3: either one. And then I've got some underrated guys that
- 7:24Speaker 3: apparently aren't going to get a lot of money. I
- 7:26Speaker 3: just looked at projections on PFF and some other websites.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Arnold Ebiccati, who was a second round pick the year
- 7:31Speaker 3: they took Dak Still. I had Ebikadi as tenth overall
- 7:34Speaker 3: in that draft. I think he went thirty eighth to
- 7:36Speaker 3: the Falcons. He has been a very good pass rusher
- 7:38Speaker 3: for them in a limited role, very productive, high pass
- 7:42Speaker 3: rush win rate, especially last year. He's a top ten
- 7:44Speaker 3: pass rusher in terms of pass rush win rate from
- 7:46Speaker 3: PFF last year projected to get seven million dollars. Like
- 7:49Speaker 3: that's a Joseph o Side replacement. You kicked Shamar Stewart
- 7:52Speaker 3: inside in your nickel. Have Arnold abacaty Miles Murphy's that's good.
- 7:56Speaker 3: You can survive with that without spending too much money.
- 7:59Speaker 3: And he would be your best pass rusher at this
- 8:01Speaker 3: point based on what he has shown. But he got
- 8:03Speaker 3: buried under two first round picks last year. The Pulpins
- 8:05Speaker 3: had to, you know, really upgrade their defense probably in
- 8:07Speaker 3: a similar situation the Bengals are, and now they spent
- 8:09Speaker 3: two first round picks on pass rushers kind of got buried.
- 8:12Speaker 3: The other guy is Leo Shanal from Kansas City, and
- 8:14Speaker 3: Shanal was a guy that I was super high on
- 8:17Speaker 3: coming out of his classes as well four years ago.
- 8:20Speaker 3: I'm typically looking at these guys. He's twenty five years old,
- 8:23Speaker 3: He's got good all good strength to a density to him.
- 8:26Speaker 3: He can play that. He's kind of a tweener edge linebacker.
- 8:30Speaker 3: And the Bengals did that a ton with Demetrius Knight.
- 8:32Speaker 3: And if you were to pull up the highlight plays
- 8:34Speaker 3: for Demetrius Knight and the low light plays of Demetrius Knight,
- 8:37Speaker 3: the low light would all come when he was on
- 8:38Speaker 3: the line of scrimmage, almost as in a bare front
- 8:41Speaker 3: where they would shift over their linebackers and put him
- 8:43Speaker 3: on the edge and say, hey, you got to set
- 8:45Speaker 3: the edge here in the run game. You got to
- 8:47Speaker 3: go against these offensive tackles and these tight ends, sometimes
- 8:50Speaker 3: two tight ends, and they're washing you off of here,
- 8:52Speaker 3: and we're allowing this big run around the outside. Let's
- 8:54Speaker 3: eliminate that from Demetrius Knight's game. He's not that guy.
- 8:56Speaker 3: In my opinion, Leo Shanal is exactly that you want
- 8:59Speaker 3: to get. And he's projected seven million a year. You
- 9:02Speaker 3: want to put him at that spot. He's a linebacker
- 9:04Speaker 3: and edge guy for you where you can keep that rotation,
- 9:07Speaker 3: keep that variability in your defensive front. I think he
- 9:10Speaker 3: would be a perfect fit. And he's a guy that rees, reacts, moves.
- 9:15Speaker 3: I did a film review for subscribers on Twitter. His
- 9:18Speaker 3: reaction time was the best on the whole Kansas City defense.
- 9:21Speaker 3: He is moving towards the play before anybody. And that's
- 9:24Speaker 3: a lot of good defenders on that team. And I
- 9:27Speaker 3: want that we need a little bit more than that.
- 9:28Speaker 3: He's not fooled by the misdirection. He's not fooled by
- 9:31Speaker 3: the motions, and you know all the things that would
- 9:33Speaker 3: get young linebackers that did get the Bengals young linebackers
- 9:36Speaker 3: last year.
- 9:37Speaker 4: I think Chanall would help fix that in a big way.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Joe, you made a reference to DJ Reader. He's due
- 9:42Speaker 2: to be a free agent again. He'll turn thirty two
- 9:45Speaker 2: in July. Would it make sense to try to bring
- 9:48Speaker 2: him back.
- 9:49Speaker 4: It would.
- 9:50Speaker 3: I think DJ Reader is still a quality player and
- 9:52Speaker 3: maybe they used him a little bit too much. I
- 9:54Speaker 3: did a film review of him as well on Twitter,
- 9:57Speaker 3: just looking at his pulled up next gen stats online
- 10:00Speaker 3: and you can click and bring up the film with
- 10:01Speaker 3: all his defensive stops. I've watched more film than that,
- 10:05Speaker 3: but I wanted something digestible for people, so it's pretty
- 10:07Speaker 3: much as highlights of the last year. He's still very
- 10:11Speaker 3: good two gapper nose tackle with the great tackle radius,
- 10:15Speaker 3: that understands how blocks are coming at him, how to
- 10:17Speaker 3: defeat them, how long you should hold up against the
- 10:19Speaker 3: double team before splitting it and making the tackle.
- 10:22Speaker 4: I think he's still a very very good player now.
- 10:24Speaker 4: I thought TJ.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Slayton came on at the end of the year, but
- 10:27Speaker 3: he also started to come on when McKinley Jackson was
- 10:30Speaker 3: activated and McKinley Jackson was playing more nos and TJ.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Slayton was playing more b gap. They're doing more odd
- 10:35Speaker 3: man front since the bye week last year, and I
- 10:38Speaker 3: think that really helped them. Number one, it gave more
- 10:40Speaker 3: one on ones up front when you have five guys
- 10:42Speaker 3: on the line right rather than four. It really helped
- 10:44Speaker 3: Miles Murphy, I think, and it helped the defensive tackles
- 10:47Speaker 3: up front. I thought BJ Hill had a strong second
- 10:49Speaker 3: half of the year. I thought TJ. Slayton had a
- 10:52Speaker 3: strong second half. Now, if you want to say, all right,
- 10:54Speaker 3: we like the flashes of McKinley Jackson, but year three,
- 10:56Speaker 3: we're not going to bank on that completely. You want
- 10:58Speaker 3: to do more odd front stuff, you can bring back.
- 11:00Speaker 3: DJ Reader projected about six to seven million dollars a year.
- 11:03Speaker 3: That's reasonable. Put them back at that No.
- 11:05Speaker 4: Spot.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Now here's the thing why I keep getting this because
- 11:08Speaker 3: I've gotten some flak when I said, hey, take DJ Reader.
- 11:10Speaker 3: They say, well, you're not going to get any pass
- 11:12Speaker 3: rush from a defensive tackle room.
- 11:14Speaker 4: You're right, but.
- 11:15Speaker 3: I think you are just as far, if not further.
- 11:18Speaker 3: It's probably harder to fix this pass rush and become
- 11:21Speaker 3: a top ten pass rushing team. Unless Ruben Bain or
- 11:23Speaker 3: David Bailey fall to you and still rookie pass rushers
- 11:26Speaker 3: forty pressures, seven sacks. I mean, we take that from
- 11:29Speaker 3: a rookie, but it's not Trey hendrickson the level fifteen sacks.
- 11:32Speaker 3: You're closer to being a good run defense team. And
- 11:35Speaker 3: they were a very good run defense team down the
- 11:37Speaker 3: stretch this past year. Ever since the bye week when
- 11:39Speaker 3: they did more odd man fronts, I think you enhance
- 11:42Speaker 3: that become a very good run defense team. The final
- 11:45Speaker 3: four teams in the AFC Playoff or the NFL playoffs
- 11:48Speaker 3: this year were all good run defending teams. I would
- 11:51Speaker 3: prioritize that because I think that is easily easily fixable,
- 11:55Speaker 3: easier than really recouping this pass rush to what it
- 11:58Speaker 3: needs to be. So get good at that, put teams
- 12:00Speaker 3: in more third and long situations, and then unleash an
- 12:03Speaker 3: average pass rush against that.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Joe Bengals fans want Dalton Reisner back. He wants to
- 12:09Speaker 2: be back. I believe the Bengals want him back. I
- 12:13Speaker 2: don't know what he's asking for. I think they'll find
- 12:15Speaker 2: a number, but let's say that they don't. Pro Football
- 12:19Speaker 2: Focus has five free agent guards rated above Dalton Reisner.
- 12:24Speaker 2: How important is it to bring back Dalton Reisner.
- 12:28Speaker 3: I've been a Dalton Reisner fan for a long time.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Twenty twenty draft I was at the Senior Bowl. I
- 12:33Speaker 3: got to stopped him a little bit there, and I
- 12:35Speaker 3: like this personality. He scored really well from us in
- 12:38Speaker 3: our pre draft sheet that long ago. Can't believe it,
- 12:40Speaker 3: six years ago already. I've watched him in Denver and
- 12:42Speaker 3: when he bounced around with the Vikings always getting signed
- 12:45Speaker 3: late in the offseason.
- 12:46Speaker 4: Did again for the Bengals.
- 12:48Speaker 3: I've been kind of banging that drum for a while
- 12:50Speaker 3: to get Dalton Reisner in here. He's been one of
- 12:52Speaker 3: the best true pass setting guards in the league if
- 12:56Speaker 3: you use PFF numbers, and that's what the Bengals do,
- 12:59Speaker 3: all right. Always thought this would be a great fit.
- 13:01Speaker 3: I assume we talked abou Dalton Reiser in the few
- 13:03Speaker 3: offseasons we've done this.
- 13:05Speaker 4: I think we have. I was happy when it happened.
- 13:08Speaker 3: I was very happy with once once he was settled in,
- 13:10Speaker 3: because remember he had to play right away in one practice,
- 13:13Speaker 3: and here you go, you got to play week one.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Once he was settled in, I thought he was excellent
- 13:17Speaker 3: and not only as a pass protector. He had his
- 13:20Speaker 3: best run blocking season of his career, and I don't
- 13:23Speaker 3: think that can be discounted, like when you get the
- 13:25Speaker 3: right guy with a right offensive line. Coach Scott Peters,
- 13:28Speaker 3: I thought they did a great job with this run game.
- 13:30Speaker 3: At Week three or four with the Vikings game, I said,
- 13:33Speaker 3: this is the worst run game I've ever seen in
- 13:34Speaker 3: my life to the end where I thought this is
- 13:37Speaker 3: one of the best running games in the league.
- 13:40Speaker 4: And that's a huge jump.
- 13:41Speaker 3: And that's what I'm not afraid to say when I
- 13:43Speaker 3: see it on tape, like this looks terrible, this looks
- 13:46Speaker 3: the worst. I can't believe this not hyperbole because once
- 13:49Speaker 3: you go from that point and you get all the
- 13:51Speaker 3: way to where you were at the end of the year,
- 13:53Speaker 3: and especially at like the three quarter mark, I thought
- 13:55Speaker 3: they were humming on the ground. Dalton Riisener was a
- 13:58Speaker 3: big part of that, and I love the way his
- 14:00Speaker 3: energy out of the way he's running down and picking
- 14:01Speaker 3: guys up. He was the first guy to keep blocking
- 14:03Speaker 3: and help blocking. I think he is more than what
- 14:06Speaker 3: the parts say, and you know, maybe he's not going
- 14:10Speaker 3: to get the money that he's definitely not gonna get
- 14:12Speaker 3: the money of these other guys. Guy, I think the
- 14:13Speaker 3: most he's ever made is about three million dollars in
- 14:15Speaker 3: the year. I think you can get him for four
- 14:17Speaker 3: four and a half making a multi year deal. Feel
- 14:20Speaker 3: comfortable with that position because I don't think they can
- 14:23Speaker 3: spend too much on this offensive line or on the
- 14:25Speaker 3: offense in general. Really, this money, this cap space should
- 14:29Speaker 3: go to the defense. If you're saying, at most you're
- 14:31Speaker 3: gonna sign Dalton Riisener to four million dollars this year,
- 14:35Speaker 3: the offensive line is set, you feel pretty good about that.
- 14:37Speaker 3: Maybe they keep looking at a tight end for depth.
- 14:39Speaker 3: Maybe they signed Chase Brown like that's it on offense.
- 14:42Speaker 3: I don't think they're going to do much more than that.
- 14:44Speaker 3: If that's all your priority is for that side of
- 14:46Speaker 3: the ball, I think that should be a priority, And
- 14:49Speaker 3: if they don't do it, I think people will be disappointed.
- 14:52Speaker 2: We're visiting with Joe Goodbarry. You can follow him on
- 14:54Speaker 2: Twitter or x at Joe Goodberry. You can also check
- 14:58Speaker 2: out his YouTube video. I was sponsored by First Star Logistics.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Just look up Bengals on the Brain on YouTube. You'll
- 15:04Speaker 2: find some great stuff. Let's talk about the free agent
- 15:08Speaker 2: pass rushers. There are several in the twenty five to
- 15:11Speaker 2: twenty seven range that I'm sure the Bengals would like
- 15:14Speaker 2: to sign. But I'm interested in your thoughts on the
- 15:18Speaker 2: older guys. What about a Joey Bosa, a Khalil Mack,
- 15:23Speaker 2: even Kaleis Campbell, who's going to be forty years old
- 15:27Speaker 2: in September.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Is it worth a one year.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Deal with some of these older guys, hoping there's a
- 15:33Speaker 2: little bit of juice left.
- 15:36Speaker 4: It is if there's a little bit of a risk there.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Obviously, sometimes you sign these older guys, you find out
- 15:41Speaker 3: they just they were at the last leg right that
- 15:44Speaker 3: career cliff is like a you're walking on the mountain
- 15:48Speaker 3: side and the derek and the fog. You'd never know
- 15:50Speaker 3: you know what's coming, you just don't know what year
- 15:53Speaker 3: that's gonna be where you step off the edge, and
- 15:55Speaker 3: we see it with these players, So there is some
- 15:56Speaker 3: risk with that. But if you go off the last
- 15:58Speaker 3: time you saw them, Max still looks good. I'm in
- 16:01Speaker 3: like Clys Campbell still looks good. I don't know if
- 16:03Speaker 3: he has any interest. He's kind of always made it
- 16:05Speaker 3: seem like he wants to play in a warm weather team,
- 16:07Speaker 3: but also win a Super Bowl.
- 16:08Speaker 4: Well, come on, you know you got to pick some
- 16:10Speaker 4: of these Northern teams.
- 16:11Speaker 3: They seem to be the ones half making it half
- 16:13Speaker 3: the time, so you know you have to change your
- 16:15Speaker 3: mind there at the old age. But Joey Bosa and
- 16:18Speaker 3: I live in Buffalo, so I got to see a
- 16:19Speaker 3: lot of Joey Bosa. Here Bill's fans talk about Joey Bosa.
- 16:23Speaker 3: He was very good in the first half of the year.
- 16:25Speaker 3: I think he had five force fumbles at like the
- 16:27Speaker 3: halfway point career high he was really their only pass rush.
- 16:30Speaker 3: Then he hurt his hamstring, he hurt his wrist. They
- 16:33Speaker 3: had used him with just on one side because his
- 16:35Speaker 3: moves weren't as effectives with that risk. The rest of
- 16:37Speaker 3: the year he had a brace on it. Again, that's
- 16:40Speaker 3: been his thing though, He's always dealt with injuries. And
- 16:43Speaker 3: then he got really bad against the run. In fact,
- 16:46Speaker 3: I think PFFS in terms of starters had him as
- 16:48Speaker 3: the worst run defending defending defensive end in the league.
- 16:51Speaker 3: At the end of the year, it just really fell
- 16:53Speaker 3: off for him, and it's partly due to injuries. So
- 16:56Speaker 3: he's the one I'd be more scared of because he's
- 16:58Speaker 3: dealt with injuries throughout his career and he dealt with
- 17:00Speaker 3: him again this year, and he fell off towards the
- 17:02Speaker 3: end of the year, and there's projections for him for
- 17:05Speaker 3: fifteen million dollars a year. I'm not in at that price.
- 17:08Speaker 3: I think you can find I'd rather have Arnold Abacadie
- 17:10Speaker 3: and Joseph Osai for the total of fifteen million, and
- 17:13Speaker 3: give me younger guys with more Jews that have some
- 17:16Speaker 3: upside still in their game rather than go with someone
- 17:19Speaker 3: like that. So it has to be calculated. There are
- 17:21Speaker 3: guys like the Mario Davis linebacker from the Saints. I
- 17:23Speaker 3: guess a guy who's extremely smart, has his play has
- 17:26Speaker 3: not fallen off a bit, and the Bengals have his
- 17:29Speaker 3: former linebacker coach on the staff. Now, like that's one
- 17:32Speaker 3: that makes a ton of sense. You want to bring
- 17:33Speaker 3: in a veteran that can do the leadership, can lead
- 17:36Speaker 3: the film room, can get these guys to make the
- 17:39Speaker 3: calls at the line and pre snap.
- 17:41Speaker 4: I think that Tomorrio Davis makes a ton of sense.
- 17:44Speaker 2: All right, Joe, this is the eighteenth year that you
- 17:46Speaker 2: provided in depth draft analysis. I mentioned your Bengals on
- 17:50Speaker 2: the brain videos on YouTube. They're awesome. And you have
- 17:53Speaker 2: looked at five draft press Bock prospects so far. Edge
- 17:57Speaker 2: rushers Ruben Bain from Miamivid Bailey from Texas Tech, defensive
- 18:02Speaker 2: tackle Peter Woods from Clemson, safety Caleb Downs from Ohio State,
- 18:06Speaker 2: and most recently, cornerback Jermad McCoy from Tennessee.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Why those five?
- 18:12Speaker 3: So I wanted to start at the top. Typically I don't,
- 18:15Speaker 3: but the Bengals have a high pick this year. Typically
- 18:17Speaker 3: I start with positions, and my process is normally watch
- 18:20Speaker 3: that position completely, and it's easy to compare who's better
- 18:24Speaker 3: than the next guy.
- 18:25Speaker 4: Right.
- 18:25Speaker 3: If you're just watching defensive ends and spending the next
- 18:27Speaker 3: fourteen days watching them, you get a really good feel
- 18:29Speaker 3: for who's better than the next And I think teams
- 18:31Speaker 3: should do that too. I always thought teams shouldn't have
- 18:33Speaker 3: a Midwest scout or an Eastern scout.
- 18:35Speaker 4: You should a position scout.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Know that position by heart, talk to everyone you can
- 18:39Speaker 3: about that position, become an expert of that position, and
- 18:42Speaker 3: I think you would find the gems more likely.
- 18:44Speaker 4: It's my theory.
- 18:44Speaker 3: But so this time though, with the Bengals picking top ten,
- 18:47Speaker 3: I thought, all right, for the first time are she
- 18:51Speaker 3: and this has slowly been happening.
- 18:52Speaker 4: Our she is very.
- 18:55Speaker 3: Data driven. We do have our film grades in there,
- 18:57Speaker 3: but it's very data driven to help guide you. And
- 19:00Speaker 3: we say, and what the consensus right now of the
- 19:03Speaker 3: top fifteen twenty players. Our data also supports that, and
- 19:07Speaker 3: it's it's been slowly growing to that, which pretty much
- 19:10Speaker 3: shows you more people are using data, teams are using data.
- 19:13Speaker 4: So it's no shock to me that it's gotten to
- 19:15Speaker 4: this point.
- 19:15Speaker 3: I said, you know what, I might as well start
- 19:16Speaker 3: with what I think and what the data says is
- 19:18Speaker 3: the top fifteen players in this draft to get an
- 19:21Speaker 3: idea of who is worthy of that pick at ten,
- 19:24Speaker 3: and also in an effort because this year I really
- 19:26Speaker 3: wanted to forget position and just look at who are
- 19:30Speaker 3: the best players? Because I watching this year, I was like,
- 19:34Speaker 3: why didn't we talk about Crash Swessinger enough at seventeen
- 19:37Speaker 3: because he plays linebacker? Like, why didn't we do this?
- 19:39Speaker 3: He grated he was the fifteenth player on our spreadsheet.
- 19:42Speaker 3: He may win Defensive Rookie of the Year. Nicki min
- 19:44Speaker 3: Warry was six on our sheet. We really didn't talk
- 19:47Speaker 3: about him enough at seventeen we mentioned him, but really
- 19:50Speaker 3: never got to the fire that should have what it
- 19:53Speaker 3: should have been, And I don't want to make that
- 19:55Speaker 3: same mistake. I want to say, all right, if these
- 19:57Speaker 3: guys grade that high, we should hammer it as much.
- 20:00Speaker 4: So ken what influence do we have?
- 20:01Speaker 3: I bet none, but for our own sanity and for
- 20:04Speaker 3: our own because for the sickos that love doing this stuff,
- 20:07Speaker 3: I think it's for us more than anything.
- 20:09Speaker 4: For our own sanity.
- 20:10Speaker 3: We need to make sure if these guys are that good,
- 20:13Speaker 3: if the data supports it, if it checks every box,
- 20:16Speaker 3: we should be talking about these guys more and more.
- 20:18Speaker 3: So I wanted to start from the top this time.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Coming up, Joe gives us an in depth look at
- 20:23Speaker 2: David Bailey, Caleb Downs, Rubin Bain, and other prospects that
- 20:28Speaker 2: could be there with the tenth pick in this year's draft.
- 20:31Speaker 2: But first, here's a quick reminder that the Bengals Booth
- 20:34Speaker 2: podcast is brought to you by pay Core, proud to
- 20:37Speaker 2: be the Bengals official HR software provider by aulta fiber
- 20:41Speaker 2: future proof fiber Internet designed to elevate your home, business,

- 20:48Speaker 2: the best care for the best fans. Kettering Health is
- 20:51Speaker 2: the official healthcare provider of the Bengals. Let's do a
- 20:56Speaker 2: thumbnail sketch on these five guys, So beginning with Ruben
- 20:59Speaker 2: Bay and from the waist down, he looks like a horse.
- 21:03Speaker 2: I mean his backside and legs are gigantic. I thought
- 21:07Speaker 2: he was really impressive in the college football playoff games.
- 21:11Speaker 2: And looking at your video the other day, you look
- 21:15Speaker 2: at him as a great run stopper and pass rusher
- 21:19Speaker 2: as opposed to just a guy that can do one thing.
- 21:23Speaker 4: No doubt about it. And you're right. He is sturdy built.
- 21:27Speaker 3: He looks like he can help you move a couch,
- 21:28Speaker 3: no doubt, right, like he can pick that thing up
- 21:30Speaker 3: no problem.
- 21:30Speaker 4: He is very thick from the lower half down and
- 21:33Speaker 4: he uses that.
- 21:33Speaker 3: He's a power generator and it comes from his lower half,
- 21:36Speaker 3: and he plays violently. He gets when he makes contact
- 21:40Speaker 3: with guys an offensive lineman, you see their whole pads
- 21:43Speaker 3: and helmet shutter off the contact. He is very, very strong,
- 21:47Speaker 3: and his hands are active. He moves all across the
- 21:49Speaker 3: defensive line from left to right, the defensive tackle where
- 21:52Speaker 3: I think he's gonna make a.
- 21:53Speaker 4: Lot of money in the NFL.
- 21:55Speaker 3: I compared him the Brandon Graham, who was a long time,
- 21:57Speaker 3: very good player for the Eagles. I think he went
- 21:59Speaker 3: Foard teenth or something in the first round out of Michigan.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Shorter arms, So that's what they say about Ruben Bain
- 22:06Speaker 3: is he's got t Rex arms. Well, you know who
- 22:07Speaker 3: else has t rex arms? A t Rex does and
- 22:09Speaker 3: he is very scary. So when you watch Rubyen Bain,
- 22:12Speaker 3: he he is frightening. For these offensive teams, they really
- 22:16Speaker 3: try to take him out. And luckily for Miami, they
- 22:19Speaker 3: had a lot of guys on the defensive line, so
- 22:20Speaker 3: when they focus too much on Bain, someone else would
- 22:23Speaker 3: usually step up a key messador is probably a late
- 22:25Speaker 3: first or a second round pick on the other end
- 22:27Speaker 3: spot their defensive tackle went back to school who had
- 22:28Speaker 3: probably been in the same range. But when you watch Bain,
- 22:32Speaker 3: his hands are very good right now, and that's a
- 22:34Speaker 3: good thing, especially for the guy with length issues, because
- 22:36Speaker 3: often you can see when you watch tape guys with
- 22:39Speaker 3: shorter arms. You say, I can see why his hands
- 22:42Speaker 3: aren't landing. He just he's trying to keep that separation
- 22:44Speaker 3: and not get too close to these offensive linemen and
- 22:46Speaker 3: he just can't reach and just can't get there. That
- 22:48Speaker 3: shows up once in a while with Bain, but not
- 22:50Speaker 3: too often for a guy that's projected thirty one potential
- 22:54Speaker 3: arms maybe sub thirty two. But what is really impressive
- 22:57Speaker 3: with him, So he's a power player, good against the run.
- 23:00Speaker 3: His agility is very very good, and that's again probably
- 23:03Speaker 3: because his low center of gravity. Those legs are strong.
- 23:06Speaker 3: He can get really low, he can turn the corner
- 23:08Speaker 3: so when he does win cleanly. I don't know if
- 23:10Speaker 3: that was a quick summary of these guys, but man,
- 23:14Speaker 3: I really like Ruby Bain. It won't be shocked if
- 23:16Speaker 3: he's a top three pick.
- 23:18Speaker 2: David Bailey, the pass rusher from Texas Tech who started
- 23:20Speaker 2: his career at Stanford, is probably the name that I've
- 23:24Speaker 2: seen most often mock drafted to the Bengals. If he's
- 23:28Speaker 2: still there, that is at number ten great pass rush
- 23:31Speaker 2: production this past year. You compared him at least a
- 23:35Speaker 2: little bit to Trey Hendrickson. Is a Trey Hendrickson level
- 23:39Speaker 2: type guy as a potential Bengals pass rusher.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Yeah, and he's built the exact opposite of Rubin Bain.
- 23:46Speaker 3: He's a triangle right, so his legs and his lower
- 23:48Speaker 3: half is thin. If he's going to add ten pounds
- 23:50Speaker 3: in the NFLF.
- 23:51Speaker 4: We see him in five years, we're.
- 23:52Speaker 3: Like, oh, yeah, he's two sixty something now that he's
- 23:54Speaker 3: probably gonna be lower half. But he's very strong up top,
- 23:57Speaker 3: very very well built up top, and because of that
- 24:00Speaker 3: lower frame, he is more athletic. He's the most athletic
- 24:02Speaker 3: pass rusher of the top guys. Maybe r Bel Reese
- 24:06Speaker 3: will have to see what Reese is, you know, in
- 24:08Speaker 3: the NFL. But Bailey, he gets off, his burst is
- 24:11Speaker 3: really good, his bend is really good.
- 24:12Speaker 4: He turns a.
- 24:13Speaker 3: Corner very well, like Trey Hendrickson because he's got a
- 24:16Speaker 3: ton of moves. He can beat you with a rip,
- 24:18Speaker 3: arm overs, swim and spin move. He'll use power when
- 24:22Speaker 3: his hands do land. That Oregon game is crazy. It's
- 24:25Speaker 3: his best game of his career. But I would just
- 24:26Speaker 3: say put the Oregon game on if you want to
- 24:28Speaker 3: be convinced of a top ten pick. When his hands
- 24:31Speaker 3: land again, he looks very strong controls guys, throws him
- 24:34Speaker 3: off at will when he wants to against the run.
- 24:36Speaker 3: His run scores from BFF and that throughout his career
- 24:40Speaker 3: average until this spent last year was a solid year,
- 24:43Speaker 3: nothing great, So may another Trey Hendrickson kind of trait
- 24:46Speaker 3: to him there where he's definitely a Tier one type
- 24:48Speaker 3: pass rusher and then maybe a c run defender, and
- 24:52Speaker 3: you'll take that at twenty three.
- 24:54Speaker 4: Only are at ten.
- 24:55Speaker 3: The only concern I have is that he is twenty three,
- 24:57Speaker 3: right if we're comparing him to some of these other prospects.
- 25:00Speaker 4: You're looking at the top of the board right there.
- 25:02Speaker 4: I got the sheet next to me.
- 25:03Speaker 3: Most of these guys in the first twenty picks are
- 25:05Speaker 3: gonna be twenty one years old. So anytime you get
- 25:07Speaker 3: a twenty two point seven is what he currently is,
- 25:09Speaker 3: would be twenty three's rookie year. That kind of gives
- 25:11Speaker 3: you some pause because they're more developed, so he should
- 25:13Speaker 3: look better on tape versus a guy like Ruben Bain that's,
- 25:16Speaker 3: you know, twenty years old. You're like, oh, yeah, that's
- 25:18Speaker 3: what it's supposed to look like at that age. His
- 25:20Speaker 3: guy's got a lot meat left on the bone by
- 25:23Speaker 3: the time. He's also twenty three. So that's the only
- 25:25Speaker 3: pause I have on Bailey. Also, I should note, though
- 25:28Speaker 3: he plays with an edge, he gets a little crazy.
- 25:31Speaker 3: He's had some issues in games in the past. I
- 25:33Speaker 3: kind of like it, but also, you know it's worth noting.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Well, since you mentioned that Jermaine Pratt earned headlines recently
- 25:42Speaker 2: when he said that the Bengals don't draft dogs on
- 25:45Speaker 2: the defensive line, I went back and looked at the
- 25:48Speaker 2: defensive lineman that they've drafted since or while Germaine Pratt
- 25:52Speaker 2: was a Bengal, Renell Wren, Collin Kareem Joseph Osai, cam Sample,
- 25:58Speaker 2: Zach Carter, Miles Murphy, Sadric Johnson. Does Jermaine Pratt have
- 26:03Speaker 2: a point? Are those guys guys that can't be described
- 26:06Speaker 2: as dogs?
- 26:07Speaker 4: I think we should describe what a dog is.
- 26:09Speaker 3: For me, that would be someone that's very physical, plays
- 26:12Speaker 3: with an intensity. I think I think Trey Hendrickson was
- 26:16Speaker 3: a dog. He got the nickname of Blackout Trey because
- 26:18Speaker 3: he would, you know, kind of lose his mind and
- 26:20Speaker 3: do whatever it takes to make a play when it required,
- 26:22Speaker 3: which you do want that. I think DJ Reader was
- 26:25Speaker 3: a dog, but again didn't draft either of those guys.
- 26:28Speaker 4: Joseo Side played.
- 26:29Speaker 3: With a lot of intensity and hustle and still did
- 26:32Speaker 3: he did a Texas he still did for the Bengals.
- 26:34Speaker 3: He probably one of their highest motor guys on the team.
- 26:37Speaker 3: But yeah, he is more of a smart, nice guy.
- 26:40Speaker 3: I would say, you know, can those guys be dog?
- 26:42Speaker 4: Sure?
- 26:42Speaker 3: The light you know, the flips, it switches when you
- 26:45Speaker 3: get on the field, and sometimes those guys turn into dogs.
- 26:48Speaker 3: I think he has a point, and I do think
- 26:50Speaker 3: if we're one of the things. If you're saying leadership
- 26:53Speaker 3: on this team, pass rush, past rusting, you know, not
- 26:55Speaker 3: really a trait, just more of a need. But if
- 26:56Speaker 3: you're looking at traits, leadership, yeah, let's get some dogs
- 27:00Speaker 3: on this team would probably be number two.
- 27:02Speaker 2: All right, back to the guys that you focused in
- 27:05Speaker 2: your draft videos so far focused on I should say
- 27:08Speaker 2: Peter Woods, defensive tackle from Clemson, three year starter for
- 27:12Speaker 2: the Tigers, very good versus the run, good versus the
- 27:17Speaker 2: pass early in his career, and then not as good
- 27:21Speaker 2: more recently. What did you make of Peter Woods?
- 27:24Speaker 3: Yeah, he's our Benjamin Button this year. And this happens
- 27:26Speaker 3: once in a while in the draft where you get
- 27:29Speaker 3: a guy who was fantastic as a freshman, and that
- 27:31Speaker 3: in itself is a great sign for future success.
- 27:34Speaker 4: We've seen this with.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Multiple players where they're really good first second year and
- 27:38Speaker 3: then maybe you know, something catches up, maybe they're dealing
- 27:41Speaker 3: with the injury. You don't know about whatever happens that
- 27:43Speaker 3: third year, and you know, most guys don't see the
- 27:45Speaker 3: fourth year.
- 27:45Speaker 4: They don't have the same success. Peter Woods.
- 27:49Speaker 3: I think when you go back to his freshman year,
- 27:50Speaker 3: talking about an eighteen year old, he won. He had
- 27:52Speaker 3: a pass rush win rate of twenty seven percent. That
- 27:56Speaker 3: is mind boggling. It is crazy numbers to win at
- 27:59Speaker 3: the rate, and then it goes on to twenty two
- 28:02Speaker 3: and then it goes on to seventeen, so.
- 28:03Speaker 4: It dropped five percent each year.
- 28:05Speaker 3: And you watch the tape, you go, yeah, they're trying
- 28:07Speaker 3: to take him out it.
- 28:08Speaker 4: They're like, we are not letting this guy wreck us
- 28:10Speaker 4: at all.
- 28:10Speaker 3: And it looked like Clemson started to use more and
- 28:13Speaker 3: more stunts and twists and not really giving you one
- 28:15Speaker 3: on one rush.
- 28:16Speaker 4: It started only rushing three.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Guys started to use Woods as a decoy to try
- 28:21Speaker 3: and get Blitzer from the other side because teams were
- 28:23Speaker 3: sending so much attention to Woods. So a little bit
- 28:26Speaker 3: of a leap of faith pick here talking about a
- 28:28Speaker 3: very young guy that I assume will test very well
- 28:30Speaker 3: in look athletic, but you got to say, man, he
- 28:33Speaker 3: just the traditional production isn't there, but the advanced production,
- 28:37Speaker 3: the advanced performance data is what I like to call it,
- 28:39Speaker 3: is there and says he's worth that shot. He's worth
- 28:42Speaker 3: that risk because it is very hard to find a
- 28:45Speaker 3: defensive tackle.
- 28:45Speaker 4: They've missed.
- 28:46Speaker 3: I mean, they didn't get a chance to get Viron Murphy.
- 28:48Speaker 3: They probably would have taken Mens. Anyways, they didn't get
- 28:50Speaker 3: a chance to last year. Oh, Walter Nolan right went
- 28:54Speaker 3: one pick ahead of them. I think they would have
- 28:56Speaker 3: been in on Walter Nolan. That could have been the pick.
- 28:57Speaker 3: He ended up tearing his achilles. He looked really good
- 29:00Speaker 3: in the time he did play. But will they see
- 29:03Speaker 3: that and seize that chance this time? At ten with Woods,
- 29:06Speaker 3: he probably ranks lowest of the guys here just based
- 29:09Speaker 3: on tape and what we have seen recently.
- 29:11Speaker 4: But as a prospect, he's still very strong.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Safety Caleb Downs from Ohio State, another guy who's frequently
- 29:18Speaker 2: been mocked to the Bengals. Bucky Brooks from NFL dot
- 29:21Speaker 2: Com did that earlier today. To take a safety in
- 29:25Speaker 2: the top ten, he has to be elite, to say
- 29:29Speaker 2: the least, maybe more than elite.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Whatever the next level would be is Caleb Downs. That guy.
- 29:35Speaker 3: He probably is in in a weird way because he's
- 29:38Speaker 3: not what we normally see from these safeties that get
- 29:41Speaker 3: drafted high, typically the Sean Taylors, the Kyla Hamilton's, even
- 29:44Speaker 3: the Nick Min Warriors who didn't go high but scored
- 29:46Speaker 3: really high for us.
- 29:47Speaker 4: Those are the freaks in terms of heightweight, speed, right
- 29:51Speaker 4: and Downs. Isn't that.
- 29:52Speaker 3: He's probably six foot I hope, and he might be
- 29:55Speaker 3: five to eleven. We'll see when he weighs in. Listened
- 29:57Speaker 3: at about two hundred and two o five depending on
- 29:59Speaker 3: where you love. So he doesn't have that. I do
- 30:01Speaker 3: think he's an elite athlete though, And he was a
- 30:03Speaker 3: former pump returner and can be a punt returner if
- 30:06Speaker 3: you need him to be.
- 30:07Speaker 4: Uh and you see when he is moving.
- 30:10Speaker 3: He's very fluid on the field. On the field, very smart,
- 30:13Speaker 3: great communicator. Under he looks different. I don't Ohio State
- 30:17Speaker 3: defense that is littered with potential first round picks. Right Downs,
- 30:21Speaker 3: You go, who's that? Oh it's Downs?
- 30:22Speaker 4: Of course it's too he's making the play here, so
- 30:25Speaker 4: he has all this.
- 30:26Speaker 3: I think he's been pegged as a strong safety type,
- 30:29Speaker 3: and I don't think that's I think you're limiting him
- 30:32Speaker 3: if you're taking him at ten. To me, if you're
- 30:34Speaker 3: taking him at ten, it's because he can play the
- 30:36Speaker 3: slot and the times he did and it was like
- 30:39Speaker 3: a twenty percent clip when he did. Based on PFF
- 30:41Speaker 3: and our database, he's in the ninety ninth percent out
- 30:44Speaker 3: for man coverage grade like and that's what even Warry
- 30:46Speaker 3: was too. That's why I was like, hey, that two
- 30:48Speaker 3: hundred thirty pounds. Even Warri can play the slot. He's
- 30:50Speaker 3: done it and he's been really good at it. I
- 30:52Speaker 3: think Downs can do that for you as well. So
- 30:54Speaker 3: even if you signed a safety and had battle and
- 30:57Speaker 3: had Downs, you could figure that out and then you
- 30:59Speaker 3: have Dax Hill and j Turner.
- 31:00Speaker 4: Sounds like a really good secondary to me.
- 31:02Speaker 3: But I think Downs is one of those young high
- 31:06Speaker 3: recruit always been good eighteen year old production. Like we
- 31:10Speaker 3: said at Alabama though, that is a good sign for
- 31:12Speaker 3: your future.
- 31:13Speaker 4: I don't have any reservations about picking him.
- 31:15Speaker 3: My only thing is, yeah, it's a safety, and typically safety,
- 31:18Speaker 3: the value to pick those spots is in rounds two
- 31:21Speaker 3: and three because immediately they become one of the higher
- 31:24Speaker 3: paid players, and especially that fifth year option becomes very expensive.
- 31:28Speaker 2: All right, Your most recent draft video was about Jermad McCoy,
- 31:33Speaker 2: cornerback from Tennessee who missed last year with a torn
- 31:35Speaker 2: acl The NFL networks Daniel Jeremiah had him as the
- 31:39Speaker 2: Bengals first round pick, number ten overall, and you said
- 31:43Speaker 2: on X I'm fine with it. Explain why because a
- 31:47Speaker 2: lot of Bengals fans were not fine with it.
- 31:50Speaker 3: So I'm glad we saved this one to the end
- 31:51Speaker 3: because when I started here the first question, I'm like,
- 31:54Speaker 3: I kind of don't want to look at positions right away.
- 31:55Speaker 3: I want to be open to good players. I want
- 31:57Speaker 3: to be more open. I want to I want to
- 31:59Speaker 3: have clear eye.
- 32:00Speaker 4: I want the Bengals to do this.
- 32:01Speaker 3: I want them to fill every hole in free agency
- 32:03Speaker 3: and then show up to the draft and say, who
- 32:05Speaker 3: is the best player at pick ten, Who's the best prospect,
- 32:07Speaker 3: Who's going to be the best player in twenty twenty seven,
- 32:10Speaker 3: twenty eight to twenty nine. You can't predict their needs
- 32:13Speaker 3: at that point, right I know corner is not their
- 32:15Speaker 3: top need, but is an elite talent their top need
- 32:18Speaker 3: on defense? Yet is getting a Pro Bowl player on defense.
- 32:21Speaker 3: Top need, Yes, is getting somebody that can be a shutdown.
- 32:24Speaker 4: Game changer type player.
- 32:26Speaker 3: Yes, that is a need on this team, and it
- 32:28Speaker 3: may be in just a year or two. Both DJ
- 32:31Speaker 3: Turner and Dax Hill are in the final years of
- 32:33Speaker 3: their deals.
- 32:34Speaker 4: Let's hope they extend both.
- 32:35Speaker 3: And insign in a conversation, but the Bengals for seven
- 32:38Speaker 3: years in a row now have needed that fourth year
- 32:41Speaker 3: or that fourth cornerback to play starter snaps, five hundred
- 32:44Speaker 3: snaps or more. They go down, they get hurt. So
- 32:47Speaker 3: drafting a guy like this and maybe Dax goes back
- 32:50Speaker 3: into the slot and we move them again, and now
- 32:53Speaker 3: it's it's McCoy and it's Hill or turn around the
- 32:57Speaker 3: outside and Hill on the slot, and your secondary is
- 32:59Speaker 3: an elite secondary.
- 33:00Speaker 4: I don't have a problem with that. So let me
- 33:01Speaker 4: tell you what McCoy can do.
- 33:03Speaker 3: I put on the tape against Alabama, so we know
- 33:05Speaker 3: we got Ryan Williams, a guy who's ultimately a top
- 33:07Speaker 3: five to ten pick. You can also put on the
- 33:09Speaker 3: Hio State game and then he that's probably his worst game.
- 33:12Speaker 3: So you know, depending on Ohio State, fans may say
- 33:14Speaker 3: liter like McCoy got roasted by a guy who's probably
- 33:17Speaker 3: a top three pick and when he comes out, but McCoy,
- 33:19Speaker 3: when you're watching that film, he was nineteen years old
- 33:23Speaker 3: and he is moving at a pace that nobody else
- 33:26Speaker 3: moving at. Ryan Williams is the fastest. It's no, he's
- 33:29Speaker 3: not breaking a sweat to stay over top of him.
- 33:31Speaker 3: He turns, locates the ball. He's riding these guys out
- 33:34Speaker 3: out of bounds easily. He looks strong, he looks physical,
- 33:37Speaker 3: he looks smart. He understands how he's being attacked by
- 33:39Speaker 3: combo routes and routes coming up behind him. He has
- 33:42Speaker 3: a one handed interception in the end zone on a
- 33:44Speaker 3: fade ball in that game against Alabama, and you go, okay,
- 33:48Speaker 3: so the tape.
- 33:49Speaker 4: Is really really good. But he's dealing with an injury.
- 33:51Speaker 3: He tore his acl while training in the off season
- 33:54Speaker 3: of January of twenty twenty five. So by the time
- 33:58Speaker 3: you see him, if he they said he could have
- 34:00Speaker 3: came back at then the Tennessee season this year, but
- 34:03Speaker 3: they said it's not worth it.
- 34:04Speaker 4: We're out of it. And then I expect he's going
- 34:07Speaker 4: to be able.
- 34:07Speaker 3: To work out then because we're over a year recovery
- 34:10Speaker 3: on a nine month injury that in modern medicine terms, right,
- 34:14Speaker 3: it used to be man, you never know, but now
- 34:16Speaker 3: we expect these guys to get back and look at
- 34:18Speaker 3: it in a year. We expect him to be their
- 34:20Speaker 3: full self in about a year and a half. We're
- 34:22Speaker 3: just right when the season would start. So if you
- 34:25Speaker 3: watch him and you look at him at nineteen and say, wow,
- 34:28Speaker 3: that is a dominant player at a position that is
- 34:32Speaker 3: hard to find, that typically gets taken in the top twelve,
- 34:34Speaker 3: and if you can get them, do it if you can.
- 34:38Speaker 3: I'm looking at my rankings right now. We're very early
- 34:41Speaker 3: in our system of the spreadsheets. We just have broad data,
- 34:44Speaker 3: and I do have film grade in for him. Now
- 34:46Speaker 3: he's eighth on our sheet right now. He's going to
- 34:48Speaker 3: score very high as long as he tests well. In
- 34:52Speaker 3: that case, there are many scenarios where he is the
- 34:54Speaker 3: top player available at pick ten, And I don't think
- 34:57Speaker 3: we should close our eyes and shut the door on
- 34:59Speaker 3: it right away just because we don't need a corner.
- 35:01Speaker 3: A lot of this is going to change. Ask me
- 35:03Speaker 3: again what our needs are in April after free agency.
- 35:06Speaker 3: Ask me again what they are week one after you
- 35:07Speaker 3: survived training camp, ask me again what they are week ten,
- 35:10Speaker 3: and then hopefully in the playoffs in January.
- 35:12Speaker 4: I bet it's going to change each time, all.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Right, Joe.
- 35:14Speaker 2: In addition to your A draft analysis, you've been doing
- 35:17Speaker 2: some tape reviews of several key Bengals players from last year,
- 35:20Speaker 2: including Miles Murphy, the rookie linebackers, Marius Mims, and some others.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Let's start with Miles Murphy. He is eligible for the
- 35:28Speaker 2: fifth year option this year. The number would be thirteen
- 35:31Speaker 2: point six milor or something close to that. What do
- 35:35Speaker 2: you think about that? And also how Miles Murphy played
- 35:39Speaker 2: this year.
- 35:40Speaker 3: I thought Murphy definitely took a step, and the biggest
- 35:42Speaker 3: step for me was in is intensity.
- 35:45Speaker 4: I thought that ramped up.
- 35:47Speaker 3: It was always a question I like, I guess like
- 35:50Speaker 3: Jermain Pratt. When I watched my Clemson I thought, you know,
- 35:52Speaker 3: just he's a one pace kind of player. Didn't really
- 35:56Speaker 3: ever turn it up in situations where he needed it,
- 35:58Speaker 3: and then the first couple of years, I don't know
- 36:00Speaker 3: if he's ever going to get that. The big issues
- 36:02Speaker 3: for me was his intensity and then his hand usage,
- 36:05Speaker 3: and the hand usage got slightly better. I think that's
- 36:08Speaker 3: his last step to really grow and become a ten
- 36:10Speaker 3: plus sack guy. But to me, is intensity ramped up.
- 36:14Speaker 3: Is he started hustling and chasing guys down. Think of
- 36:16Speaker 3: the where he runs behind and catches Derek Henry forty
- 36:19Speaker 3: yards down the field. That was starting to happen more routinely.
- 36:21Speaker 3: And then the other thing that's huge for any player
- 36:24Speaker 3: once they start getting snaps and consistent snaps. So we
- 36:27Speaker 3: can never really judge this on Miles Murphy the first
- 36:29Speaker 3: couple of years because we didn't have consistent snaps. But
- 36:31Speaker 3: in year three he got them, and it was his
- 36:34Speaker 3: awareness of where the ball is going, how to take
- 36:37Speaker 3: on blocks, stack him, shot him, find the ball, you know,
- 36:40Speaker 3: disengage and shed that guy and go make a play.
- 36:43Speaker 3: In the first couple of years, it leads you, if
- 36:45Speaker 3: you're watching, you go, I just don't know if he's
- 36:47Speaker 3: ever going to be a good player. But then consistent
- 36:49Speaker 3: snaps happen, that starts to happen more frequently, and you're like,
- 36:52Speaker 3: he does know what's happening. He does have the mentality
- 36:55Speaker 3: to do this, especially from an intelligence level and intensity
- 36:57Speaker 3: of strength length. We're talking about a guy who has
- 37:00Speaker 3: one of the best getoffs in the league. I think
- 37:03Speaker 3: he can play and help. And does that mean he's
- 37:05Speaker 3: a number one pass rusher? I don't know that yet.
- 37:07Speaker 3: I don't think he's answered that question. Does it mean
- 37:09Speaker 3: he can be one of your top three guys in
- 37:11Speaker 3: a good team and a good pass rush that starts
- 37:14Speaker 3: and rotates and plays a bunch of different positions. I
- 37:17Speaker 3: do think he can be that, and the Bengals need answers.
- 37:19Speaker 3: I think he's an answer right now until further notice.
- 37:23Speaker 2: Is Amarus Mims, DJ Turner or any other young player
- 37:27Speaker 2: on his way to being one of the best at
- 37:29Speaker 2: his position.
- 37:30Speaker 4: Yeah, Mems is Mems.
- 37:32Speaker 3: He took a step that I was hoping for, and
- 37:36Speaker 3: in the early part of the season I wasn't sure
- 37:37Speaker 3: what much Like the offensive line we talked about the
- 37:39Speaker 3: first month was kind of a grind. I think it
- 37:41Speaker 3: took a minute for them to really embrace and fully
- 37:44Speaker 3: execute what Scott Peters was looking for. And then I
- 37:47Speaker 3: think maybe Don't Riser may have helped that as well,
- 37:49Speaker 3: put plugging him in next to Mims, because when they
- 37:51Speaker 3: were together, they seem to really have a good connection
- 37:54Speaker 3: and to pick up stunts and everything. But Mems himself,
- 37:57Speaker 3: he's funny because he's a one pace guy.
- 38:00Speaker 4: Right.
- 38:00Speaker 3: I always wondered if he had the intensity. But his
- 38:02Speaker 3: pace is he's moving like it is no problem. Like
- 38:06Speaker 3: these guys, they're a buzzing of flies to him, right,
- 38:08Speaker 3: They're just it is nothing. You want to run through him,
- 38:11Speaker 3: you want to run around him. Nothing works when he's consistent.
- 38:14Speaker 3: When he's on, and he became really consistent in the
- 38:15Speaker 3: second half. He's just a bunch of guys in there folding.
- 38:18Speaker 3: They're sending a blitz his way.
- 38:20Speaker 4: One hand.
- 38:20Speaker 3: These guys are there, they're sliding to the ground. He
- 38:23Speaker 3: looks like it's easy to him, and that's what we
- 38:25Speaker 3: always wanted. Like when we were watching him at Georgia,
- 38:27Speaker 3: only questions really were like, he doesn't have a lot
- 38:30Speaker 3: of snaps. You think he looks good. He looks really
- 38:32Speaker 3: good in his limited snaps. So what happens if you
- 38:34Speaker 3: got a lot of tape on him? What happens if
- 38:36Speaker 3: he has to play for nine hundred and fifty snaps
- 38:38Speaker 3: in a season? How is that going to look? Our
- 38:39Speaker 3: defense is going to figure it out? And no, they
- 38:41Speaker 3: don't figure it out. If anything, he got better, he
- 38:44Speaker 3: looks like, man, if you could predicted this type of
- 38:47Speaker 3: curve for him, he would have never been there for
- 38:49Speaker 3: the Bengals that pick eighteen, he would have went in
- 38:52Speaker 3: this class, he probably is the first offensive tackle taken.
- 38:54Speaker 3: He probably goes top ten. The Chiefs at nine would
- 38:57Speaker 3: love to have an Amariusmin's. I'll tell you that I
- 38:59Speaker 3: think he's on pay be. He's already probably a top
- 39:02Speaker 3: ten right tackle, if not top five. I'd have to
- 39:04Speaker 3: rank him and sit down and think about it. But
- 39:05Speaker 3: he's on pace to being one of the best at
- 39:07Speaker 3: that position.
- 39:08Speaker 4: No doubt.
- 39:09Speaker 2: How about DJ Turner and Dax Hill as a combo.
- 39:13Speaker 3: I really liked him as a combo. I was high
- 39:15Speaker 3: on both right like so for us. Dax Hill was
- 39:18Speaker 3: I think the number nine player in that draft class.
- 39:21Speaker 3: DJ Turner was one of the best man cover guys
- 39:23Speaker 3: coming out of his class. We're talking about speed, athleticism,
- 39:27Speaker 3: good guys, intelligent, right like.
- 39:29Speaker 4: I like that pairing. I still think.
- 39:33Speaker 3: Dax has some upside as a slot guy because I
- 39:35Speaker 3: look around the league and all these final teams are
- 39:37Speaker 3: really executing that position to their advantage. But when the
- 39:41Speaker 3: Bengals kicked him out to the boundary last year and
- 39:43Speaker 3: then for the second half of this year, he has
- 39:45Speaker 3: played at a level I didn't know he could play
- 39:47Speaker 3: on the boundary and that is worth keeping him there
- 39:50Speaker 3: and just letting that go and saying, you know what,
- 39:53Speaker 3: normally you don't like these high cut, leggy guys at
- 39:56Speaker 3: that spot. But it does not seem to affect Dax.
- 39:58Speaker 3: He seems to.
- 40:00Speaker 4: Move really well nowhere guys routes are going.
- 40:02Speaker 3: It must be the intelligence film aspect of it, where
- 40:05Speaker 3: he's moving at at the same speed the receivers are
- 40:08Speaker 3: and is able to mirror them and get in front
- 40:10Speaker 3: of them before the ball egman gets there. I really
- 40:12Speaker 3: impressed with Dex moving from all these positions and then
- 40:15Speaker 3: finding out you're boundary corner. That's the hardest of them all, like,
- 40:18Speaker 3: so for him to do that, very impressed with that.
- 40:21Speaker 3: DJ Turner, on the other hand, I thought he ended
- 40:23Speaker 3: last year when he broke his I think it was
- 40:25Speaker 3: the classical right in twenty twenty four, the Chargers game.
- 40:28Speaker 4: That Chargers game was great, that tape was amazing.
- 40:31Speaker 3: I'm like, the last few weeks here Turner has been great,
- 40:35Speaker 3: and then I couldn't understand how we were in the
- 40:37Speaker 3: summer and he wasn't getting starter snaps and that he
- 40:41Speaker 3: was Yeah, he's getting beat sometimes by Jamar Chase and
- 40:44Speaker 3: T Higgins. That happens, like I'm not. I never took
- 40:46Speaker 3: that as a negative, especially when he on the reviews
- 40:50Speaker 3: and all the film and all the stuff you do,
- 40:51Speaker 3: the post you do in the camp really helped me
- 40:53Speaker 3: with seeing these players and see how they progress. But
- 40:56Speaker 3: watching Turner, even though he gets beat down this play,
- 40:58Speaker 3: the fluidity, the speed, how quickly his feet plant and
- 41:02Speaker 3: he cuts and turns, how he's got a hand on
- 41:05Speaker 3: these guys, sees the ball, he's tracking it, he's going
- 41:07Speaker 3: up for it. He's not the longest guy. So if
- 41:10Speaker 3: he catches the ball over him, fine, most guys are
- 41:12Speaker 3: gonna struggle. Most guys are not T Higgins out there
- 41:14Speaker 3: we've seen and aren't gonna catch that ball over DJ Turner.
- 41:18Speaker 3: That's the thing I had a question on. Can he
- 41:20Speaker 3: be physical enough that rookie year, he was a butterfly,
- 41:23Speaker 3: He was right around you, but not really physical. Guys
- 41:26Speaker 3: would catch the ball with him on you know. DJ
- 41:28Speaker 3: Turner was a backpack along for the ride there. But
- 41:30Speaker 3: he's become more physical, He's gotten stronger, He's finding a
- 41:32Speaker 3: way to knock those balls out at the catch point
- 41:35Speaker 3: or afterwards, and when guys are pulling it in DJ Turner,
- 41:37Speaker 3: punching it out after or ripping it out of DK
- 41:39Speaker 3: metcalf talking about physicality, you play DJ Turner there. So
- 41:43Speaker 3: we're talking about a guy who's super athletic, great and
- 41:46Speaker 3: man coverage and has found the ability to find the
- 41:48Speaker 3: ball and make plays on the ball. To me, I
- 41:51Speaker 3: want that and I would like to lock these guys
- 41:53Speaker 3: up three year deals for both. Is this the Jonathan
- 41:55Speaker 3: Joseph and Leon Hall situation where you get one contract
- 41:59Speaker 3: basically who wants to take it?
- 42:00Speaker 4: Give them both the contract fifteen million a year or so.
- 42:03Speaker 3: I think you have keep a strength the strength of
- 42:05Speaker 3: your team.
- 42:07Speaker 2: Dax is under contract as part of his fifth year
- 42:09Speaker 2: option this year. DJ's going into the final year of
- 42:13Speaker 2: his rookie deal, so is Chase Brown. So for the
- 42:15Speaker 2: first time DJ and Chase Brown can be extended, Miles
- 42:20Speaker 2: Murphy can be extended. Would you be surprised if the
- 42:24Speaker 2: Bengals get deals done with some of these guys? Obviously
- 42:27Speaker 2: Bengals fans would like to see some of these guys
- 42:30Speaker 2: signed early in the process, if possible.
- 42:33Speaker 4: They're earlier. You do it.
- 42:34Speaker 3: The more money you save, right, you not only get
- 42:37Speaker 3: ahead of the other positions, and players are going to
- 42:39Speaker 3: be signed in free agency and extensions from the same
- 42:41Speaker 3: draft class that everyone just you know you want to
- 42:44Speaker 3: beat them. If you're the last contract, you tend to
- 42:45Speaker 3: get more than the guy previous to you, So get
- 42:48Speaker 3: them done early. We saw this happen with t and Jamar.
- 42:50Speaker 3: They probably could have saved five to eight million dollars
- 42:53Speaker 3: on their cap each year if they had got ahead
- 42:54Speaker 3: of it. That's big. That's a starter. It's a starting
- 42:57Speaker 3: defensive end. And I don't think that it's anything to
- 43:01Speaker 3: just brush off because the way the Bengals do business,
- 43:03Speaker 3: I think they should remain aggressive now. I think there
- 43:06Speaker 3: is a point also, where do you pay the running back?
- 43:10Speaker 3: Do you pay Chase Brown? I like Chase Brown. He's
- 43:12Speaker 3: become every We had a second round score on Chase
- 43:14Speaker 3: Brown in our spreadsheets.
- 43:15Speaker 4: Fifth round.
- 43:16Speaker 3: I was like, Yes, this is gonna be the dude
- 43:17Speaker 3: I'm I was in and he has been everything that
- 43:20Speaker 3: especially a great fit for this offense.
- 43:22Speaker 4: But do you pay running back? Do you is that required?
- 43:25Speaker 3: There's so many in free agency every year we're gonna
- 43:27Speaker 3: see Kenneth Walker and Breist Hall and free agency and
- 43:31Speaker 3: how much are they going to get and is it
- 43:32Speaker 3: worth it to even get close to that? They're Tyler
- 43:35Speaker 3: Aljier is a good running back who got supplanted by
- 43:37Speaker 3: b John Robinson. He's a free agent. Rico Dowdle's a
- 43:40Speaker 3: free agent. Again, do you have to pay Chase Brown?
- 43:43Speaker 3: I don't know that you do, But if you get
- 43:44Speaker 3: ahead of it, you can use that last year.
- 43:46Speaker 4: Of their deal.
- 43:47Speaker 3: This works for DJ Turner, this works for Miles Murphy
- 43:49Speaker 3: and Chase Brown. If you get ahead of it and
- 43:51Speaker 3: say we're gonna do it like the Bills do, like
- 43:52Speaker 3: the Eagles do. These these are teams that are aggressive
- 43:55Speaker 3: with extensions. Sometimes it fights them, but really you're in
- 43:58Speaker 3: a super Bowl window.
- 43:58Speaker 4: You're trying to win it. Now, you take that last year.
- 44:01Speaker 3: So if DJ turns making four million dollars and you
- 44:03Speaker 3: give them a fifteen million dollar contract today it's three
- 44:06Speaker 3: years forty five, you're going to give them that's fifteen
- 44:08Speaker 3: million dollars a year on the extension. But I think
- 44:10Speaker 3: the Bengals should look at it this way, and this
- 44:12Speaker 3: is how I look at it. It'll really be a
- 44:13Speaker 3: four year forty nine million dollar deal, So really you're
- 44:16Speaker 3: only in twelve point what three million dollars per year Like,
- 44:20Speaker 3: that's that's less. That's that's manageable. I can now save
- 44:23Speaker 3: a little bit of money on the cap in future
- 44:25Speaker 3: years because I got ahead of it and I used
- 44:27Speaker 3: that last year of.
- 44:27Speaker 4: Their deal to lower the total of the deal.
- 44:31Speaker 3: So if you're going to do it, do it early.
- 44:32Speaker 3: And if you're not going to do it early, I'm
- 44:34Speaker 3: less interested.
- 44:36Speaker 2: All right, last thing for you, Joe, kind of a
- 44:38Speaker 2: big picture question. All three teams, all three other teams
- 44:42Speaker 2: in the AFC North will have new coaches. Buffalo is
- 44:46Speaker 2: going to have a new head coach, plus new coordinators,
- 44:48Speaker 2: plus a new offensive line coach. They had a really
- 44:51Speaker 2: good one who retired. Patrick Mahomes is coming back from
- 44:54Speaker 2: a torn ACL. So a lot of the teams that
- 44:56Speaker 2: you would expect to contend in the AFC have some
- 45:00Speaker 2: legitimate issues going into next season. Furthermore, the Bengals have
- 45:03Speaker 2: a third play scheduled. They've only got four games against
- 45:06Speaker 2: teams that had winning records this year. Having said all
- 45:10Speaker 2: of that, do things line up for the Bengals to
- 45:14Speaker 2: have a bounce back?
- 45:14Speaker 1: Here?
- 45:17Speaker 4: Dan for the fourth straight year.
- 45:18Speaker 3: I think of us talking, I'm going to say this
- 45:20Speaker 3: is the most important offseason in Bengals history again, and
- 45:22Speaker 3: it feels that.
- 45:23Speaker 4: Way, and I can't believe we're I'm gonna fall forward again.
- 45:26Speaker 3: They're gonna pull the football out as I go and
- 45:28Speaker 3: kick it, and I'm gonna get excited and get ready.
- 45:30Speaker 4: But yes, if they want to do this is.
- 45:33Speaker 3: All in front of them. There is no They have
- 45:36Speaker 3: all the cap space. They have cash space, too, don't
- 45:39Speaker 3: we know everyone talks about cap we have to talk
- 45:41Speaker 3: about cash.
- 45:41Speaker 4: So much as Bengals fans and analysts. They have cash space.
- 45:44Speaker 3: They're all the cap numbers and these contract they they've
- 45:47Speaker 3: given out recently Joe Burrow to our Chasey Higgins, and
- 45:49Speaker 3: the cash that they're paying them in year two for
- 45:51Speaker 3: the receivers and for Burrow this year goes down, they
- 45:55Speaker 3: are actually getting some relief there. The cap numbers are
- 45:57Speaker 3: with there. That's why they could restructure these guys if
- 45:59Speaker 3: they want to and creating more cap space. But that
- 46:02Speaker 3: means cash they can spend, and I expect them to spend,
- 46:05Speaker 3: and they typically spend a certain amount of cash every
- 46:08Speaker 3: single year.
- 46:08Speaker 4: It's pretty predictable. It's just math.
- 46:10Speaker 3: If you're a pessimist and say they're not going to
- 46:12Speaker 3: do anything in free agency, it's just math this time.
- 46:15Speaker 3: This time, they have to go pay some guys. Unless
- 46:17Speaker 3: it's extensions for DJ Dax, Miles Murphy and Chase Brown,
- 46:21Speaker 3: then we go, okay, well, there's all the cash, that's
- 46:22Speaker 3: where it went. But I don't expect that to happen
- 46:25Speaker 3: that way. I do expect them to go and get
- 46:26Speaker 3: some veterans in here. I think the pressure has mounted.
- 46:29Speaker 3: Everyone can feel it. I don't know if it's to
- 46:31Speaker 3: the extreme levels that the national media likes to make it,
- 46:34Speaker 3: you know, with Joe Burrow and things like that. But
- 46:35Speaker 3: I think everyone's realizing, like hey, and even the coaches
- 46:37Speaker 3: on this team that you know, I have another year now.
- 46:40Speaker 3: We need to make something happen. It's all in front
- 46:42Speaker 3: of us. Go outside the right guys, keep everyone healthy.
- 46:45Speaker 3: That's huge again, and if you do it, if you
- 46:48Speaker 3: make the right choices. In their history, we don't have
- 46:50Speaker 3: a lot of faith as Bengals fans that they'll do
- 46:52Speaker 3: the right things in free agency, that they'll do the
- 46:54Speaker 3: right things with caps and contracts, and that they'll draft
- 46:57Speaker 3: right but let me tell you this, They've had great
- 47:00Speaker 3: drafts in their history. They have in recent history. They've
- 47:03Speaker 3: had great free agent off seasons. They've made some great
- 47:06Speaker 3: value contract signings, all with the same people in the
- 47:08Speaker 3: front office that make those decisions. They have the pieces
- 47:12Speaker 3: in the formula, they know how to do it, They
- 47:14Speaker 3: could do it, and if they do do it, I
- 47:16Speaker 3: think they'll be in great shape for twenty twenty six.
- 47:19Speaker 2: What do we have to look forward to and Bengals
- 47:22Speaker 2: on the brain more draft prospects.
- 47:25Speaker 3: I'm gonna try and get to a list of ten
- 47:26Speaker 3: to twelve guys that we really would love to have.
- 47:30Speaker 3: Sometimes it's not the position, Maybe it's stremonn McQuay right,
- 47:32Speaker 3: maybe we'll slot him a little lower because he isn't
- 47:34Speaker 3: a dire need.
- 47:36Speaker 4: But let's get to twelve guys that we absolutely would.
- 47:38Speaker 3: Love to have at that spot, and then let's be
- 47:40Speaker 3: aware as the process goes, who could enter that conversation
- 47:44Speaker 3: as the combine happens in pro days and all these
- 47:47Speaker 3: same Senior Bowls happening this week as well, so guys
- 47:49Speaker 3: may get close to it, and then we'll go into
- 47:51Speaker 3: free agency because that'll be you know, shortly after we
- 47:54Speaker 3: get to that point and start to look at more
- 47:56Speaker 3: free agents and what they can do. Players that maybe
- 47:59Speaker 3: you remember from college and really haven't kept up on them.
- 48:01Speaker 4: So let's watch the tape.
- 48:02Speaker 3: Let's see what they're doing, Let's see what they look like,
- 48:03Speaker 3: let's see how they could help the Bengals, what their
- 48:05Speaker 3: contract projections.
- 48:06Speaker 4: Look like, and we'll go from there. We'll try and
- 48:08Speaker 4: build the team as weekend as fans.
- 48:10Speaker 2: Bengals on the Brain is free on YouTube, but you
- 48:12Speaker 2: also have some subscription level content for people that are interested.
- 48:16Speaker 2: What is that and how can they get it?
- 48:19Speaker 3: So that has really really expanded, it's grown. It comes
- 48:22Speaker 3: with a discord link where there's.
- 48:24Speaker 4: A thousand Bengals fans in there.
- 48:26Speaker 3: You don't have to worry about Chiefs fans or Ravens
- 48:27Speaker 3: fans jumping in your mentions and ruining your day.
- 48:29Speaker 4: It's all just.
- 48:30Speaker 3: Bengals fans in there, which is a good time and
- 48:32Speaker 3: everyone's sharing information. Haven't but the subscription part of the Twitter,
- 48:37Speaker 3: I've been doing probably making too much content.
- 48:38Speaker 4: My family's probably worried about me. They're wondering where I'm at.
- 48:41Speaker 3: I'm doing probably four or five videos a day while
- 48:43Speaker 3: on free agent profiles on draft prospects of just going
- 48:47Speaker 3: through Like when PFF had their top two hundred and
- 48:49Speaker 3: fifty list, I said, Okay, let's do a video. Let's
- 48:52Speaker 3: go through them, Let's see who makes sense where they're ranked.
- 48:54Speaker 3: Let's create a line of where we think upgrades would be.
- 48:57Speaker 3: Gino Stone was at.
- 48:58Speaker 4: Like ninety something and I'm like, well, there's the line.
- 49:00Speaker 3: Let's get at anything better than what pffics Genostone is at.
- 49:03Speaker 4: Safety.
- 49:04Speaker 3: So we have fun with it, but also try to
- 49:06Speaker 3: give you film data, information and just keep the content
- 49:10Speaker 3: rolling for you.
- 49:11Speaker 2: Nobody is creating better Bengals content than you are. The
- 49:16Speaker 2: expression must watch, I think is often overused, but in
- 49:20Speaker 2: your case it is not. I try to watch everything
- 49:23Speaker 2: you crank out there, and I really appreciate the time
- 49:25Speaker 2: you give me today.
