- 0:12Speaker 2: Picture Association of America.
- 0:14Speaker 3: It is intended for mature audiences and parental discretion is advised.
- 0:29Speaker 1: It's showtime, folks.
- 0:31Speaker 4: Enjoy the show.
- 0:45Speaker 5: Hi, this is Bill Diamond, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:59Speaker 6: It's time for Sofa Theater.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Another world. Another time. In the Age of Wonder. A
- 1:12Speaker 2: thousand years ago, this land was green and good. Until
- 1:16Speaker 2: the crystal cracked. For a single piece was lost. A
- 1:21Speaker 2: shard of the crystal. Then strife began. and two new
- 1:28Speaker 2: races appeared, the cruel Skeksis, the gentle mystics. Here in
- 1:40Speaker 2: the castle of the crystal, the Skeksis took control. Now
- 1:48Speaker 2: the Skeksis gather in the sacred chamber, where the crystal
- 1:53Speaker 2: hangs above a shaft of air and fire.
- 1:58Speaker 7: Until the crystal cracked.
- 2:02Speaker 8: A single piece was lost.
- 2:30Speaker 9: Welcome to Movie Meltdown Sofa Theater.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Once again, I am Brian.
- 2:35Speaker 10: Roger.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Johnny.
- 2:36Speaker 7: I am still Misty.
- 2:37Speaker 11: I'm Jake. This week's Sofa Theater feature is The Dark Crystal.
- 3:06Speaker 11: The year is 1982. Director Jim Henson and Frank Oz.
- 3:11Speaker 11: The plot, which for once off of IMDb isn't horrible.
- 3:15Speaker 11: On another planet in a distant past, a gelfling embarks
- 3:17Speaker 11: on a quest to find the missing shard of a
- 3:19Speaker 11: magic crystal to restore order to his world. It's not bad, actually.
- 3:24Speaker 12: Unusual.
- 3:25Speaker 11: So we'll throw out a generalized spoiler alert now, but
- 3:28Speaker 11: if you haven't seen this, for shame, go take it
- 3:31Speaker 11: upon yourself right now and watch it.
- 3:33Speaker 1: You had not seen this.
- 3:34Speaker 11: Movie up until now.
- 3:35Speaker 4: No, I avoided it.
- 3:37Speaker 1: You avoided it just because.
- 3:39Speaker 9: I just didn't feel like seeing it.
- 3:42Speaker 1: It's one of those movies. If I'm not in the
- 3:44Speaker 1: mood to see it, I just don't want to see it. Okay.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Fair enough.
- 3:47Speaker 13: I think Isabel would probably like it.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Isabel's seen it.
- 3:49Speaker 9: It's actually one of the movies that she has, and
- 3:51Speaker 9: her mom and her have watched it a bunch of times.
- 3:54Speaker 9: And it's one of those things I was always at work,
- 3:56Speaker 9: so I got out of most of those movies. The
- 3:58Speaker 9: only reason I ever sat through Labyrinth was because I
- 4:00Speaker 9: had to.
- 4:03Speaker 14: And Labyrinth is awesome. And it involved David Bowie's package.
- 4:07Speaker 15: Yikes.
- 4:07Speaker 11: That's what it's all about.
- 4:08Speaker 4: It's actually in the credits.
- 4:11Speaker 3: His codpiece is credited in the credits.
- 4:13Speaker 14: Has top billing on the poster.
- 4:15Speaker 11: Wow.
- 4:17Speaker 16: Oh, Lord.
- 4:17Speaker 12: It's deep, Roy.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I was going to say.
- 4:20Speaker 10: It's actually a very small man that he's texted to
- 4:23Speaker 10: his dad.
- 4:25Speaker 6: That's Deep Roy.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Strap him.
- 4:27Speaker 11: On that note. Gives a new name to nut huggers. Alright,
- 4:33Speaker 11: we will delve into another edition of.
- 4:38Speaker 11: Where this time, we can swing the vault door open
- 4:40Speaker 11: wide and head on over to the stacks of movies
- 4:43Speaker 11: with Muppets in them, because those are all awesome.
- 4:46Speaker 6: Or the early ones, anyway.
- 4:48Speaker 1: They don't happen anymore.
- 4:50Speaker 11: No, no, they don't.
- 4:51Speaker 6: If they do, it's not the same.
- 4:53Speaker 1: There are no more Muppets Take Manhattan or... the great
- 4:56Speaker 1: Muppet Caper.
- 4:58Speaker 11: They're trying.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Muppet Treasure Island was awesome.
- 5:02Speaker 4: Wonder Chosen was good.
- 5:04Speaker 6: That's not quite Muppets.
- 5:05Speaker 1: They're Muppets. They're not Muppets. I love Civil and Ollie.
- 5:10Speaker 13: I love Civil and Ollie.
- 5:14Speaker 9: Actually, one of my buddies was on a couple of
- 5:17Speaker 9: the episodes of Civil and Ollie.
- 5:19Speaker 1: He did your tattoo. He was the devil.
- 5:23Speaker 14: Awesome.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Wow. That's awesome.
- 5:26Speaker 13: That's impressive fresh.
- 5:28Speaker 6: I kind of remember that too, yeah. That's funny.
- 5:31Speaker 14: Makes me have a new appreciation for my tattoo.
- 5:33Speaker 11: There you go.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Satan did your tattoo. Satan did your tattoo.
- 5:36Speaker 11: Awesome.
- 5:37Speaker 17: Oh, Lord.
- 5:38Speaker 11: So this week we'll hear once again from puppeteer and
- 5:41Speaker 11: producer Bill Diamond and see what he says about working
- 5:43Speaker 11: on this week's feature, The Dark Crystal.
- 5:45Speaker 18: What all was involved in that? I mean, you say
- 5:47Speaker 18: it was five years and what, as far as making
- 5:50Speaker 18: of it?
- 5:51Speaker 5: Well, Jim really wanted to... to get into it and
- 5:59Speaker 5: create the whole environment. It wasn't just about the story
- 6:02Speaker 5: and it wasn't.
- 6:02Speaker 19: Just about the characters.
- 6:03Speaker 5: When Brian Froud would draw, he would draw a whole world.
- 6:07Speaker 5: And Jim was really interested in creating the whole world
- 6:10Speaker 5: organically like no one had ever seen before.
- 6:13Speaker 11: Now this is way before digital.
- 6:15Speaker 5: So, you know, nobody had attempted with no human characters.
- 6:20Speaker 5: It was pretty much the first film outside of cartoons
- 6:23Speaker 5: that was ever done in a surreal environment.
- 6:27Speaker 18: Yeah, it's amazing how much they built up and how
- 6:30Speaker 18: much of that were actual live-action sets. I mean, what size-wise?
- 6:36Speaker 5: Oh, they were huge. Most of the sets were built
- 6:39Speaker 5: in London, in London. in Pinewood Studios and also over
- 6:45Speaker 5: in the, a couple of the other studios, L Street
- 6:49Speaker 5: Studios had them. And they were huge. Like the main
- 6:53Speaker 5: scene where the chamber of the crystal was gigantic. It
- 6:58Speaker 5: was three stories tall.
- 7:00Speaker 15: I mean, it was just.
- 7:02Speaker 5: Amazing plaster work. You stand and it was like a cathedral.
- 7:06Speaker 5: And then over in, you know, then they had the
- 7:10Speaker 5: outdoor scenes, which were all inside. You know, I think
- 7:13Speaker 5: it was done on the James Bond soundstage, which was
- 7:17Speaker 5: one of the largest at its time.
- 7:20Speaker 6: I think it still is.
- 7:21Speaker 18: Pretty huge, yeah.
- 7:22Speaker 19: Yeah.
- 7:23Speaker 18: Were there people doing specific characters, or was it kind
- 7:28Speaker 18: of just trading off whoever did the work that day?
- 7:30Speaker 5: Well, no, Jim did Jen, but one of the things
- 7:33Speaker 5: that was really interesting that most people think everybody was
- 7:36Speaker 5: a puppeteer really wasn't. Everyone, the Mystics or the Skeksis
- 7:43Speaker 5: were puppeteers, but the Mystics and the Lance Riders, they
- 7:46Speaker 5: were all.
- 7:48Speaker 5: Entertainers as far as acrobats. They were circus people. We
- 7:55Speaker 5: think of Circus Olay now. They were mimes, different people
- 8:03Speaker 5: that did juggling, different people that did... He wanted a very.
- 8:09Speaker 5: Interesting movement, not something that was going to be done
- 8:11Speaker 5: by puppeteers, something that was going to be very organic.
- 8:14Speaker 5: And that was never done, too. So that was something
- 8:17Speaker 5: he really paid a lot of attention to. He loved
- 8:19Speaker 5: little details. Jim really was into details.
- 8:23Speaker 11: What all did you actually spend doing on that set? Like,
- 8:25Speaker 11: what kind of work?
- 8:26Speaker 5: Well, at that time, there were a number of things
- 8:28Speaker 5: that were being done. I mean, the New York office,
- 8:30Speaker 5: we were kind of putting up displays and things like that.
- 8:34Speaker 5: What I did, Jim would.
- 8:37Speaker 18: We would tape.
- 8:39Speaker 5: whatever was being done, he was flying around. So you
- 8:42Speaker 5: didn't have the internet and couldn't send things back and
- 8:44Speaker 5: forth or whatever.
- 8:45Speaker 15: So of course we did.
- 8:46Speaker 5: Have video, captured stuff on video. A lot of the
- 8:49Speaker 5: behind the scenes that you see are stuff that we
- 8:52Speaker 5: cut for him to approve while he was going back
- 8:55Speaker 5: and forth to New York or London or California or
- 8:57Speaker 5: wherever he was. So he relied on that information before
- 9:01Speaker 5: anything was ever shot on film.
- 9:04Speaker 11: Alright, so once again, thank you to Bill for sharing
- 9:06Speaker 11: our more stories of giant puppets and awesomeness.
- 9:09Speaker 1: And what they do.
- 9:12Speaker 11: Back into it for us.
- 9:14Speaker 6: Where shall we begin?
- 9:15Speaker 20: I guess out of all the movies from my childhood,
- 9:17Speaker 20: this wasn't one of my actual favorites. But I still
- 9:20Speaker 20: like it, and I still have an appreciation for it.
- 9:22Speaker 20: But I guess I was more of a Labyrinth fan,
- 9:23Speaker 20: or the Never Ending Story, and that same, you know,
- 9:26Speaker 20: from that time frame. It never was my favorite, but
- 9:29Speaker 20: it's still amazing to look at, and still amazing to watch,
- 9:31Speaker 20: but It just.
- 9:33Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 9:34Speaker 11: See, that was kind of the other way. I saw
- 9:37Speaker 11: most of those as a kid. I saw this one,
- 9:39Speaker 11: I'm pretty sure, in the theater. And this, like, I
- 9:41Speaker 11: latched onto. This was my favorite. Like, I saw Labyrinth later.
- 9:45Speaker 11: And I think why I didn't take to that as
- 9:48Speaker 11: much is I think there was a lot more comic
- 9:50Speaker 11: relief to it. And there was a little more of the, like,
- 9:53Speaker 11: kind of playing it more for kids, where this one
- 9:56Speaker 11: was just such a real story and such a dark story.
- 10:00Speaker 11: and it didn't stray into the normal world at all.
- 10:03Speaker 11: It was completely self-contained.
- 10:05Speaker 14: Maybe that's why it bothered me. I can't take puppets
- 10:07Speaker 14: that damn seriously. I like them enough.
- 10:10Speaker 1: They look that cool, though. No, they still, it's like, I.
- 10:12Speaker 14: Still can't connect, really.
- 10:14Speaker 1: It's like, it's still, like, oh. You can't connect with puppets?
- 10:15Speaker 14: No, it's still, like, I really don't, I'm not concerned
- 10:17Speaker 14: about their safety whatsoever.
- 10:18Speaker 11: I don't really care if they get hurt. I'm like,
- 10:19Speaker 11: it's a puppet. What are you going to do?
- 10:20Speaker 4: Sell it back together.
- 10:21Speaker 14: I mean, I don't care.
- 10:22Speaker 11: Blast.
- 10:24Speaker 12: Okay, that will be.
- 10:25Speaker 20: I'm still impressed with them. It's still fun to watch.
- 10:27Speaker 20: I don't know. You're all going to be against me.
- 10:31Speaker 10: I like puppets in general because I think puppetry is
- 10:34Speaker 10: an art form in itself, whereas CGI and stuff like
- 10:37Speaker 10: that that they do nowadays.
- 10:39Speaker 9: I do wish they would bring back more puppets and
- 10:41Speaker 9: drop the technology.
- 10:43Speaker 20: That's why I connected with Labyrinth better because it at
- 10:45Speaker 20: least had the main characters were people.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Yeah, they had puppets in it, but still.
- 10:50Speaker 6: I don't know, I guess I.
- 10:51Speaker 14: Connect, I don't know, which is I hate people, I
- 10:53Speaker 14: can connect better with them.
- 10:54Speaker 13: And they were singing in the labyrinth, which was.
- 10:56Speaker 6: Yeah, that's, I think, took it down for me, too.
- 10:57Speaker 6: I was never big on.
- 10:58Speaker 11: Breaking out into a song, where this was just so serious.
- 11:01Speaker 6: It definitely worked on that level.
- 11:03Speaker 11: But to put it all into context, this, that reminded
- 11:05Speaker 11: me of a good way to sort of start off
- 11:07Speaker 11: this process is, as we decided to Watch this movie.
- 11:11Speaker 11: I realize I don't even think I have a good
- 11:13Speaker 11: copy of it. So I went looking for it and
- 11:15Speaker 11: I found it for relatively cheap and I went to
- 11:16Speaker 11: buy it. And this was at a large retail store
- 11:19Speaker 11: that I won't bother to plug. But it'll tell you
- 11:22Speaker 11: who we're dealing with. This is a big chain store
- 11:25Speaker 11: and you got the girl working behind the counter. And
- 11:27Speaker 11: she goes to scan it and she picks it up
- 11:29Speaker 11: and looks at it and goes, oh, this ain't good.
- 11:31Speaker 11: And then she looks a little closer at the picture
- 11:33Speaker 11: and goes, oh, it's cartoon. To which I immediately went, no,
- 11:37Speaker 11: it's puppets, actually. I was going to fight with this chick.
- 11:41Speaker 11: To which she then followed up with, oh, that's even worse.
- 11:45Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 11:45Speaker 15: Really?
- 11:46Speaker 10: Wow.
- 11:46Speaker 11: Yeah. I was just like... But then, once again, to
- 11:50Speaker 11: your ignorance, went, the only puppets I like are the Muppets.
- 11:53Speaker 11: And I went, well... And by this time, I was
- 11:55Speaker 11: halfway into the description of what... I was like, you
- 11:58Speaker 11: know what?
- 11:58Speaker 6: I'm wasting my time.
- 11:59Speaker 11: Never mind.
- 11:59Speaker 6: I was like, just hit total. Let's move on.
- 12:01Speaker 10: Don't waste your time on someone whose favorite TV show
- 12:04Speaker 10: is the blue-collar comedy hour.
- 12:07Speaker 6: Yeah, that's definitely your radio.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 12:10Speaker 11: Well, not necessarily my... I don't know what she liked,
- 12:13Speaker 11: but it did.
- 12:14Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 12:14Speaker 11: It just puts it into, you know, different camps, different
- 12:17Speaker 11: schools of thought because yeah, that was number one. She
- 12:20Speaker 11: thought it was terrible because it was animated and then
- 12:22Speaker 11: it was worse because it was puppets. So people have
- 12:25Speaker 11: a very specific take on anything like that. Anything that's
- 12:30Speaker 11: kind of different from the norm, specifically puppetry.
- 12:32Speaker 6: So yeah.
- 12:33Speaker 3: Like we said, there isn't that many puppet movies out
- 12:37Speaker 3: there anymore or that.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Even involve puppets.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Like even, Star Wars, I think they stopped using puppets
- 12:43Speaker 3: in Episode 1 when Yoda was the puppet.
- 12:45Speaker 1: And he sucked. He really sucked.
- 12:48Speaker 11: That's what makes no sense.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 12:51Speaker 11: That's what made no sense to me. I was like,
- 12:52Speaker 11: how is it that in 1982 he looked awesome in 1981?
- 12:56Speaker 9: He looked like you could actually reach in the screen
- 12:59Speaker 9: and touch him, and now he looks like a.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Well, I think it's kind of like we just lost
- 13:03Speaker 3: that skill or whatever. I mean, who's left that still
- 13:06Speaker 3: does that? I mean, Frank Oz is still alive.
- 13:09Speaker 11: They didn't lose the skill.
- 13:10Speaker 6: I don't think he does any of that anymore.
- 13:12Speaker 1: It's not flashy, it's not new, it's not technology, which
- 13:15Speaker 1: is why they don't want to touch it. And it's
- 13:17Speaker 1: a lot more expensive, too.
- 13:18Speaker 13: That's why I was so excited about Dinosaurs Lab, because
- 13:21Speaker 13: it was.
- 13:22Speaker 10: giant giant dinosaurs size puppets and i was like so excited.
- 13:26Speaker 11: About that is awesome because the way you describe it
- 13:28Speaker 11: is pretty close to what we were looking at seeing
- 13:31Speaker 11: them do the behind the scenes stuff it's like it's
- 13:33Speaker 11: really close to what you were saying they're doing with
- 13:35Speaker 11: the dinosaurs yeah.
- 13:36Speaker 10: I'm sorry i was walking with the dinosaurs my dinosaurs
- 13:38Speaker 10: left but um That reminds me, recently, or, like, within
- 13:42Speaker 10: the last couple of years, I saw this movie about
- 13:45Speaker 10: puppets called Strings, and it was, like, this Greek tragedy,
- 13:48Speaker 10: and it was just, it was kind of ridiculous.
- 13:50Speaker 15: Oh, wow.
- 13:50Speaker 13: But it had puppets. It's a pretty recent movie.
- 13:53Speaker 4: It's a dream.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Well, wasn't there, like, some episode of Spike or something
- 13:56Speaker 3: where it's called Happy Time where it's all puppets?
- 13:59Speaker 12: Oh, God.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Stupid like that. But we grew up with puppets. I mean,
- 14:03Speaker 1: DC Follies, Fraggle Rock.
- 14:05Speaker 11: Fraggle Rock, yeah. It's just, I don't know, it's hard to...
- 14:09Speaker 11: The Muppet Show. Yeah, The Muppet Show is amazing. It
- 14:12Speaker 11: still is one of the better shows ever. But it's
- 14:16Speaker 11: weird when they try to work it into other stuff.
- 14:18Speaker 11: I think that's what's harder to do. When it's its
- 14:20Speaker 11: own self-contained thing, I think it's easier to take. When
- 14:24Speaker 11: you throw a puppet into the middle of an episode
- 14:26Speaker 11: of Angel.
- 14:28Speaker 14: What about Craig the Bunny?
- 14:30Speaker 11: That was terrible.
- 14:31Speaker 4: That made no sense either. It's so hard.
- 14:34Speaker 3: Yeah, kind of.
- 14:36Speaker 6: She loved it too.
- 14:37Speaker 13: Yeah, I was going to say that show that was
- 14:39Speaker 13: like Married with Children, but it had a puppy. A puppy?
- 14:42Speaker 20: Puppet?
- 14:42Speaker 13: Puppet?
- 14:43Speaker 9: Alf?
- 14:44Speaker 11: Alf was almost the exception. It was pretty mainstream and
- 14:48Speaker 11: was pretty well received, actually.
- 14:50Speaker 1: I hated Alf, though.
- 14:51Speaker 13: I liked it. When I was little, I loved it.
- 14:52Speaker 13: I don't know if I'd like it now.
- 14:54Speaker 4: It comes out to you, right?
- 14:55Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 14:56Speaker 11: It did. It was terrible.
- 14:57Speaker 1: I hated that episode.
- 14:59Speaker 13: Now when we get puppets, it's that obnoxious comedian guy.
- 15:03Speaker 11: Jiftern. He's in everything.
- 15:06Speaker 1: What is he?
- 15:06Speaker 4: He's a ventriloquist.
- 15:09Speaker 16: I think he's pretty funny, but I can only watch
- 15:12Speaker 16: him for like four to five minutes at a time.
- 15:14Speaker 6: I just want to smack him.
- 15:15Speaker 11: He's good. He's good at doing what he does, and
- 15:20Speaker 11: he's been doing it forever. He was doing those same
- 15:22Speaker 11: characters on the night show when Johnny was still hosting.
- 15:25Speaker 6: I can't believe that guy's still around.
- 15:27Speaker 1: He is old.
- 15:28Speaker 21: I know.
- 15:28Speaker 11: He hasn't aged at all, but he's been doing those
- 15:30Speaker 11: characters forever. Maybe he's a puppet.
- 15:33Speaker 4: The puppet devil.
- 15:34Speaker 6: Puppet devil.
- 15:37Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 15:38Speaker 20: I still think my favorite part about Dark Crystal is Fizzgig.
- 15:41Speaker 20: Although I can't watch Twin Peaks without yelling Fizzgig every
- 15:48Speaker 20: time I see Laura Palmer's mom.
- 15:50Speaker 11: Yes, Laura Palmer's mom looks exactly like Fizzgig.
- 15:54Speaker 1: It's frightening.
- 15:55Speaker 14: I've seen where she yells. You can almost see teeth
- 15:58Speaker 14: in the back of her throat.
- 16:02Speaker 20: Yikes.
- 16:03Speaker 10: I love Fiskig, but it's been a couple of years
- 16:05Speaker 10: since I've seen Dark Crystal.
- 16:06Speaker 13: I don't think I realized how terrible of.
- 16:08Speaker 4: A dog he was.
- 16:09Speaker 13: He was the worst guard dog ever.
- 16:12Speaker 14: He wasn't really a dog.
- 16:13Speaker 1: He was more of a companion, I think, than he
- 16:15Speaker 1: was like.
- 16:15Speaker 13: I mean, he had dog-like personality.
- 16:18Speaker 6: He's very dog-like, yeah.
- 16:19Speaker 13: He didn't dog-like things, but he was awful. He was
- 16:21Speaker 13: so useless. All he ever did was get him in
- 16:23Speaker 13: trouble and like.
- 16:26Speaker 11: He would be a good guard dog at your house
- 16:28Speaker 11: because he makes a lot of damn noise. He would
- 16:30Speaker 11: definitely let you know if somebody was there, but out
- 16:32Speaker 11: in the world, he just got them in trouble at
- 16:34Speaker 11: every turn.
- 16:35Speaker 1: He was still so.
- 16:35Speaker 14: Cute while he was doing it.
- 16:36Speaker 4: He was kind of a popple.
- 16:39Speaker 5: Can you turn him inside out?
- 16:43Speaker 14: Probably.
- 16:44Speaker 6: They tried to.
- 16:46Speaker 3: My favorites, of course, are always the Garth and I've
- 16:49Speaker 3: always loved the big beetle sentry warriors. When I was
- 16:53Speaker 3: a kid, they It was like this scary fascination that
- 16:56Speaker 3: I had because when Jin falls in that pit or whatever,
- 16:59Speaker 3: and then you hear the clicking, and all you see
- 17:01Speaker 3: is all.
- 17:01Speaker 1: The eyes kind of light up.
- 17:02Speaker 11: That shot is amazing.
- 17:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I just remember that really kind of freaked me out,
- 17:06Speaker 3: but I was just like, God, they're so cool, but
- 17:08Speaker 3: I'm so terrified by them.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I don't know what's going on. I couldn't tell if
- 17:11Speaker 1: they were beetles or crabs. I think they're like crabs.
- 17:14Speaker 11: It's a mesh.
- 17:15Speaker 1: Yeah, an amalgamation. God, those would be deadly crabs to have.
- 17:19Speaker 10: Right? Yeah.
- 17:20Speaker 11: They based them on, like, oh, God.
- 17:22Speaker 6: Butter dip.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Butter dip, of course.
- 17:27Speaker 11: But, yeah, they were, I think that was one of
- 17:30Speaker 11: those that really stuck with me as a kid, too. It's, like,
- 17:32Speaker 11: of all the other stuff that's weird in this world,
- 17:34Speaker 11: those were so freaky and, like, so creepy that. Every
- 17:38Speaker 11: turn they would just show up and be on top
- 17:40Speaker 11: of and like it was one of those.
- 17:41Speaker 3: Talking pieces just bust through walls Yeah, just can't get
- 17:45Speaker 3: away from doom.
- 17:46Speaker 11: Yeah, you're screwed when they show up.
- 17:48Speaker 9: Yeah, but yet they're still slow as dirt It seems
- 17:52Speaker 9: like it seems like everybody in this world is slow
- 17:55Speaker 9: as dirt except for those striders striders.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Striders everybody else just moves.
- 18:00Speaker 11: Really slow It's like going to Walmart.
- 18:02Speaker 22: It is.
- 18:03Speaker 3: It's real sad because the adults die and then the
- 18:06Speaker 3: little baby ones left alone.
- 18:07Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Because they jumped on the adults and let the little
- 18:10Speaker 1: child one behind.
- 18:11Speaker 3: I guess it's like, I'll just wait for you to
- 18:13Speaker 3: be here when I come back.
- 18:16Speaker 4: They never came back.
- 18:19Speaker 6: That's going to be the sequel.
- 18:20Speaker 1: The spin-off Landstrider movie. Lone Strider.
- 18:24Speaker 4: They stole my parents.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Take revenge against the Gelflings.
- 18:28Speaker 4: That'd be awesome, actually.
- 18:34Speaker 10: I like that Kira and Jen are just expected to
- 18:37Speaker 10: fall in love because they're like gelflings.
- 18:39Speaker 13: It's like, eh, you're a gelfling.
- 18:40Speaker 14: She's a gelfling.
- 18:42Speaker 11: I mean, that's a rule in any movie. When you
- 18:47Speaker 11: come across someone else that's of the same general age
- 18:49Speaker 11: group as you, that's the opposite gender, that's it.
- 18:52Speaker 1: You're done.
- 18:52Speaker 4: That's all it takes.
- 18:53Speaker 1: That's all it takes.
- 18:57Speaker 6: It really is, and it's funny.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Well, it's her, Agra.
- 18:59Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 19:01Speaker 11: It was pretty hot. I don't know what you're talking about.
- 19:03Speaker 1: She had hard nipples the whole time.
- 19:05Speaker 11: I don't know what y'all are talking about.
- 19:06Speaker 1: It's so weird to give a puppet, like, her hard nipples.
- 19:09Speaker 21: Like, grody, dude.
- 19:11Speaker 4: That was the first time I noticed it. I'm not
- 19:13Speaker 4: just being a god knows how many times.
- 19:14Speaker 1: I was like, whoa.
- 19:15Speaker 13: That's really disturbing.
- 19:17Speaker 1: What's going on there, Agra?
- 19:18Speaker 15: Follow the greater sun for a day to the home
- 19:22Speaker 15: of Agra. Some directions. Who is Agra, anyway? One of
- 19:31Speaker 15: these things? Maybe she murders girl flings. What am I
- 19:37Speaker 15: doing here?
- 19:44Speaker 23: Are you.
- 19:54Speaker 4: A Gelfling?
- 19:55Speaker 15: Yes, my name is Jen.
- 20:08Speaker 11: But Gelfling all dead.
- 20:09Speaker 15: Gotham, kill them all.
- 20:10Speaker 11: You can't be Gelfling.
- 20:12Speaker 15: You look like Gelfling.
- 20:13Speaker 24: Smell like Gelfling.
- 20:17Speaker 18: Maybe you are Gelfling.
- 20:18Speaker 15: I'm looking for Ogre. Who sent you? My master, wisest
- 20:25Speaker 15: of the mystics.
- 20:27Speaker 4: Where is he?
- 20:27Speaker 22: Around here?
- 20:29Speaker 15: He's dead.
- 20:30Speaker 11: Could be anywhere, then.
- 20:31Speaker 13: The Skeksis, or Skeksis, or however you pronounce it.
- 20:34Speaker 11: Skeksis.
- 20:35Speaker 13: Skeksis. Those are creepy and gross.
- 20:37Speaker 6: Those are very creepy.
- 20:38Speaker 11: And another one of those, once again, it's weird that
- 20:41Speaker 11: of all the stuff, and it shouldn't surprise anyone, that
- 20:43Speaker 11: all the stuff that I really liked and latched onto
- 20:46Speaker 11: were the.
- 20:46Speaker 6: Evil thing, like the creepy ones. I like the cute things. See,
- 20:50Speaker 6: I like the Skeksis.
- 20:52Speaker 11: Again, they're so fascinating in their whole little weird, creepy ways.
- 20:55Speaker 11: And once again, specifically, and everyone will disagree with me,
- 20:58Speaker 11: I really like Chamberlain. I like it.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Everybody hates his whining.
- 21:10Speaker 11: I like it because it's so annoying. It works so well.
- 21:12Speaker 1: He's kind of like that Starscream character. He's that slimy usurper.
- 21:16Speaker 3: That's always kind of like in the background waiting to
- 21:18Speaker 3: like take power or whatever.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Get a leg up. Yeah.
- 21:23Speaker 12: Seriously.
- 21:24Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 21:24Speaker 13: I really hated him.
- 21:26Speaker 11: But I think he's so good at being in a
- 21:28Speaker 11: hole where you've got half your cast as villains. He
- 21:31Speaker 11: still finds a way to be even slimier and just
- 21:35Speaker 11: stab people in the back and be sniveling and conniving.
- 21:39Speaker 11: He's so good at that. I like that character thrown
- 21:42Speaker 11: in the middle of this. I think you needed that.
- 21:44Speaker 1: I like the whole.
- 21:45Speaker 9: Environment that he's thrown into, where he's in the... I
- 21:49Speaker 9: don't know if it's a forest or a jungle or whatever,
- 21:51Speaker 9: but just all the creative plants.
- 21:53Speaker 1: And small animals and things. It's like even the landscape
- 21:57Speaker 1: of puppets.
- 21:59Speaker 13: Every inch of this.
- 22:00Speaker 9: A lot of things kind of reminded me of like
- 22:03Speaker 9: stuff you would see.
- 22:03Speaker 1: In coral beds.
- 22:05Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Really neat stuff.
- 22:06Speaker 11: And that's what, I mean, you have to give Jim
- 22:08Speaker 11: Henson credit. Like that's what it was that he set
- 22:11Speaker 11: out to do with this more than anything. It's like
- 22:14Speaker 11: anybody else would just sort of slap together the main
- 22:17Speaker 11: characters and well before he even put together the characters
- 22:20Speaker 11: he set out to make the world like he wanted
- 22:22Speaker 11: to make the world that they're immersed in you know
- 22:25Speaker 11: and they worked on that before they even started putting
- 22:28Speaker 11: the characters together before the the puppets were put together
- 22:31Speaker 11: he brought in the what was the artist's name um
- 22:34Speaker 11: brian froud i think that had done like all this
- 22:37Speaker 11: fantasy artwork and he saw his stuff and was like
- 22:39Speaker 11: that's the world he's like that's similar to what I want.
- 22:43Speaker 11: And it also will work as something that you can
- 22:45Speaker 11: bring to life and make it like a real three
- 22:47Speaker 11: dimensional kind of world. So yeah, And again, he spent
- 22:51Speaker 11: so much time on the little details, and nobody else
- 22:54Speaker 11: would bother to make little critters run around the floor
- 22:57Speaker 11: when they don't tie into anything. It's not like they're
- 22:59Speaker 11: a plot device. It's not like you're going to use
- 23:00Speaker 11: it later in the story. It's just there to give
- 23:03Speaker 11: you an atmosphere.
- 23:04Speaker 1: It makes you feel more real.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Even how ornate the castle was. I mean, there's engravings
- 23:10Speaker 3: and carvings on everything, everywhere, where you don't really get
- 23:15Speaker 3: to see a lot of that stuff.
- 23:16Speaker 11: But still, it's just.
- 23:18Speaker 4: It's so ornate and.
- 23:19Speaker 3: So much detail is put into it that it gives
- 23:21Speaker 3: it that level of richness and detail that it's, you know,
- 23:25Speaker 3: it's not just, oh, we'll just paper mache a wall
- 23:28Speaker 3: or whatever, put some chicken wire down, you know.
- 23:30Speaker 1: It's like taking that time. And that level really kind
- 23:34Speaker 1: of brings it out.
- 23:35Speaker 11: It pops. And that's why he, to me, was different
- 23:38Speaker 11: than a lot of the... I mean, he was an artist.
- 23:41Speaker 11: As much as he did so many... He was a
- 23:42Speaker 11: puppeteer and a director. But, I mean, he set out
- 23:45Speaker 11: to make something very specific. And he even said in interviews, like,
- 23:48Speaker 11: a lot of this you're not ever going to see.
- 23:50Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 23:50Speaker 6: He's still bothering to create it.
- 23:52Speaker 11: He's still bothering to have all these people work for
- 23:54Speaker 11: him and make all these little details that 90% of
- 23:58Speaker 11: you probably never even caught a glimpse of, really.
- 24:00Speaker 6: They were just there to.
- 24:01Speaker 11: so that everything meshed and everything fit in this little world.
- 24:05Speaker 16: It's one of the things that, like, when he's going
- 24:07Speaker 16: through the little, uh, valley and there's, like, the river
- 24:10Speaker 16: or whatever, kind of, you know, drags right there, but the,
- 24:14Speaker 16: just the animation of all the little things makes it
- 24:18Speaker 16: go so much better.
- 24:19Speaker 2: I guess?
- 24:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:20Speaker 17: I don't know.
- 24:22Speaker 1: But, uh, They've got stuff to look at along the way.
- 24:24Speaker 12: Yeah, it's there all the time.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Something's moving all the time. It's so cool.
- 24:29Speaker 3: You think and feel that the place is alive. It's
- 24:32Speaker 3: not just static, you know?
- 24:33Speaker 9: Yeah, how many times when you're watching a movie do
- 24:35Speaker 9: you actually look and pay attention to the background? to
- 24:38Speaker 9: see what's going on in the background, because generally there's
- 24:40Speaker 9: nothing going on in the background.
- 24:42Speaker 6: Because nobody puts that level of detail.
- 24:45Speaker 9: But you're looking for different kinds of creatures and animals,
- 24:48Speaker 9: and you're like, wow, look at that, I like that,
- 24:49Speaker 9: that's pretty cool, look at that one, that one's gross.
- 24:52Speaker 4: I see a new one every time.
- 24:53Speaker 11: Yeah, and I think that's the thing. It does throw
- 24:57Speaker 11: you into this world, and then you realize... damn everything's
- 25:00Speaker 11: alive like every even when you think you know it's
- 25:02Speaker 11: just some sort of piece of the scenery or just
- 25:05Speaker 11: a plant or something it's like everything is a creature
- 25:07Speaker 11: and it usually attacks some other creature yeah it's weird
- 25:12Speaker 11: just the the land part of it but the environment
- 25:15Speaker 11: itself becomes kind of a big tie-in that i think
- 25:19Speaker 11: the more i was watching it this time i was
- 25:20Speaker 11: like it really is like a a Almost like an
- 25:24Speaker 11: organic versus society.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Kind of thing.
- 25:27Speaker 11: As you watch, it's like everybody that's the good guys
- 25:30Speaker 11: all live in damn near caves, and they're all one
- 25:34Speaker 11: with nature, and they get along with the animals. And
- 25:36Speaker 11: then the bad guys all have this little society and
- 25:39Speaker 11: they have little ways of doing things and their own
- 25:41Speaker 11: little trappings of like all the clothing and all the jewelry.
- 25:45Speaker 11: And so it really becomes like the, you know, the
- 25:48Speaker 11: natural people are the good ones and they're fighting against
- 25:50Speaker 11: the overall society. It's like, I don't know, it really,
- 25:54Speaker 11: it shows like this weird evil that seeps in the more.
- 25:56Speaker 6: Civilized they become.
- 25:58Speaker 11: And the ones, the people that are very naturalistic are
- 26:01Speaker 11: kind of like the ones that are at peace with
- 26:03Speaker 11: the world and the good guys, so to speak.
- 26:05Speaker 1: No, I feel it, definitely.
- 26:07Speaker 4: Those poor little pod people.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Oh, God, they were just used and abused by everybody.
- 26:12Speaker 11: See, I was never big on the pod people. Once again,
- 26:14Speaker 11: being the jerk that I am, and I like the Skeksis,
- 26:16Speaker 11: but the pod people were so boring. I was like, well,
- 26:18Speaker 11: no wonder.
- 26:19Speaker 1: When I was a kid, I was a stoner.
- 26:21Speaker 11: Seriously.
- 26:23Speaker 14: They were like.
- 26:24Speaker 10: A little Asian family, the way they talked.
- 26:27Speaker 1: When I was younger, I was a messed up kid.
- 26:29Speaker 1: I hated E.T. and people all over the world.
- 26:35Speaker 11: It's okay we have asian among us it makes it
- 26:38Speaker 11: okay for us to say that right or.
- 26:42Speaker 20: Not out of.
- 26:43Speaker 10: My four friends two of them are asian oh.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Lord so what were you saying um no but when
- 26:50Speaker 3: i was uh when i was younger i hated the
- 26:52Speaker 3: pod people i was just like yeah like suck their
- 26:54Speaker 3: brains out make them slaves it's like they're weak they're
- 26:58Speaker 3: totally weak they were you know yeah but of course
- 27:01Speaker 3: as i've grown up and you know start to care
- 27:03Speaker 3: about things a little more and I was like yeah
- 27:05Speaker 3: they're pretty dope and I always felt bad like when
- 27:08Speaker 3: they like it's a pretty harsh uh scene when that
- 27:11Speaker 3: one is getting its like mind sucked out and you
- 27:14Speaker 3: see like its face start to shrivel yeah and I'm
- 27:17Speaker 3: just like it was just yeah it was like kind
- 27:19Speaker 3: of disturbing like.
- 27:20Speaker 1: It's a disturbing scene yeah.
- 27:22Speaker 3: And I mean, I still want to see him throw
- 27:25Speaker 3: Fizz Gig in the fucking mall.
- 27:27Speaker 11: Hell no.
- 27:27Speaker 12: It's just me.
- 27:28Speaker 14: Fizz Gig alone.
- 27:30Speaker 11: As much as I usually don't care about cute things,
- 27:32Speaker 11: Fizz Gig's fun. I think it's just because he's the
- 27:34Speaker 11: one thing that's kind of comic relief in this. And
- 27:37Speaker 11: he's not over the top, though. He really does. They
- 27:39Speaker 11: do play it like he's just sort of an annoying pet.
- 27:42Speaker 11: And we all have annoying pets. I have several. And
- 27:45Speaker 11: they do that kind of stuff. I mean, they are
- 27:47Speaker 11: cute and ridiculous and annoying all at the same time.
- 27:49Speaker 1: They'll sell you out. Yeah, that too.
- 27:52Speaker 6: They will mess things up.
- 27:53Speaker 4: He's right here.
- 27:55Speaker 10: My dog would do that for some Braunschweiger. I don't
- 28:00Speaker 10: know how to pronounce it.
- 28:01Speaker 13: She doesn't do that anymore. She only did that.
- 28:05Speaker 14: Because of allergies.
- 28:08Speaker 1: But another scene I liked was the feasting scene.
- 28:12Speaker 3: That was always an awesome scene because I don't think
- 28:15Speaker 3: you ever since or before that have seen puppets eating.
- 28:20Speaker 1: In a feasting situation. Grossly when they're like.
- 28:25Speaker 5: Forks.
- 28:26Speaker 3: Yeah, like, that one guy's got, like, forks on his, like, fingertips,
- 28:29Speaker 3: and he's, like, being all fancy about, like, eating his little.
- 28:32Speaker 11: pieces of that's what's so cool about the Skeksis that
- 28:36Speaker 11: they're fancy like they really they.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Got frilly shirts like they're wearing frilly shirts layers and
- 28:42Speaker 1: layers layers.
- 28:44Speaker 11: And layers and that's part of it yeah oh yeah
- 28:46Speaker 11: it's kind of like they tie into like that old
- 28:49Speaker 11: thing with like the old like royalty like the more
- 28:52Speaker 11: clothes that they had the more rich they were and.
- 28:54Speaker 3: The more powerful they were it's like they were tutors
- 28:56Speaker 3: but like twisted and ropes creepy and like vulture lizards.
- 29:00Speaker 20: Yeah that's why they punished that one guy the one
- 29:04Speaker 20: skis was to strip all his clothes.
- 29:05Speaker 11: Yeah they did the ultimate they took away everything he
- 29:08Speaker 11: had and all they were worried.
- 29:09Speaker 1: About was and then they belongings and.
- 29:11Speaker 11: Power yeah they took away everything he had and kicked
- 29:13Speaker 11: him out into the world in the natural world so
- 29:15Speaker 11: that's I don't know. I think that's cool, but it
- 29:17Speaker 11: does show that weird hierarchy that bothered. Again, what other
- 29:21Speaker 11: kids movie now would do that?
- 29:23Speaker 6: Dora would just be like, look, a monkey.
- 29:25Speaker 11: And that's it. But like this, I mean, it puts
- 29:28Speaker 11: like backstory into the hierarchy of these characters eating dinner.
- 29:32Speaker 11: It's like, it's amazing.
- 29:32Speaker 3: And they do it so simply that they don't have
- 29:35Speaker 3: to beat you over the head with it.
- 29:36Speaker 1: They just, you know, I don't know. It's it's very well.
- 29:39Speaker 11: Done it's really well done i'm pretty sure that one
- 29:41Speaker 11: was eating ramen noodles i think so actually he's kind
- 29:44Speaker 11: of like hanging out of his mouth like choking on
- 29:47Speaker 11: it well yeah i gagged a little bit i'm not
- 29:48Speaker 11: gonna lie i was like oh my god you.
- 29:50Speaker 3: Know what they're eating and the weird thing was is
- 29:53Speaker 3: i think it's the first time i ever noticed it
- 29:55Speaker 3: And I said something to you, Joni, when I saw it,
- 29:58Speaker 3: when they stripped the Chamberlain down, you know how the
- 30:01Speaker 3: Mystics have four arms? Well, the Skeksis seems like they
- 30:03Speaker 3: have four arms, except for their second pair are like
- 30:06Speaker 3: shriveled up on their back. And I never noticed that before,
- 30:09Speaker 3: and I was like, oh, that's really cool.
- 30:11Speaker 11: Because I often wondered, yeah, why the other ones, since
- 30:13Speaker 11: they were sort of half of the same being, why
- 30:15Speaker 11: they had that big difference. And, yeah, that's kind of
- 30:17Speaker 11: cool that it's there. It's just like they were, you
- 30:20Speaker 11: never get it because they're so busy with their clothes. Yeah,
- 30:22Speaker 11: and they didn't develop them or feed them or, you know.
- 30:25Speaker 11: I guess over a thousand years, you can develop your
- 30:27Speaker 11: arms pretty good.
- 30:28Speaker 12: Yeah, I guess.
- 30:29Speaker 1: Or under.
- 30:29Speaker 4: I don't know what you would use them for. Just, like,
- 30:32Speaker 4: scratching your.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Own back, maybe. Yeah, heavy lifting, maybe.
- 30:34Speaker 6: Playing that awesome guitar.
- 30:35Speaker 4: Multitasking.
- 30:36Speaker 20: Yeah, mm-hmm.
- 30:37Speaker 4: I can get a little ukulele from your back.
- 30:39Speaker 11: There you go.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Scratching your butt and picking your nose. And having hands
- 30:43Speaker 1: left over to read a book.
- 30:45Speaker 11: The very wise.
- 30:47Speaker 1: I'm just trying to think useful things.
- 30:49Speaker 14: That's why you don't have forearms.
- 30:50Speaker 1: Because this is what you would do with them. Many,
- 30:53Speaker 1: many things with forearms.
- 30:55Speaker 11: Things we don't want to hear about.
- 30:56Speaker 15: No, I can't.
- 31:01Speaker 11: But then with the Skeksis, they also, as he was
- 31:03Speaker 11: going in, and it's funny because you look at him
- 31:04Speaker 11: at the table and you see these different variations almost
- 31:07Speaker 11: because they almost based them on, like, the seven deadly sins.
- 31:11Speaker 12: Oh, really?
- 31:11Speaker 11: They had more.
- 31:12Speaker 6: I mean, he sort of doubled up on some of them.
- 31:14Speaker 11: But you've got ones, like, the one guy is supposed
- 31:15Speaker 11: to be, like, the general, and they give him, like,
- 31:17Speaker 11: a different kind of costume, and he's more of the
- 31:19Speaker 11: warring one. And then you've got, and I don't think
- 31:21Speaker 11: I realized this much when I was a kid, you've
- 31:23Speaker 11: got one.
- 31:24Speaker 1: That's a fancy one, wasn't it?
- 31:25Speaker 12: Well, that's the thing.
- 31:26Speaker 14: He's like a treasurer.
- 31:27Speaker 11: You don't really know what's up with that. And I
- 31:30Speaker 11: checked this, because this is probably what my favorite thing is,
- 31:33Speaker 11: because you'd think maybe they just didn't really think about
- 31:34Speaker 11: it one way or the other, but specifically from Jim Henson,
- 31:37Speaker 11: he said, you don't really know what gender they are.
- 31:40Speaker 6: And I was like, wow, I didn't really think about it.
- 31:42Speaker 6: And he said.
- 31:43Speaker 11: He said, we wanted it that way. We wanted it.
- 31:45Speaker 11: And he used the word uncomfortable. And I was like,
- 31:48Speaker 11: that's awesome.
- 31:48Speaker 2: That is awesome.
- 31:49Speaker 11: He specifically wanted it to be uncomfortably neutral, almost. But
- 31:54Speaker 11: then you get to that one that's wearing, like, makeup, almost.
- 31:57Speaker 11: And has, like, the frillier shirt.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:59Speaker 12: And I'm like, so is this.
- 32:00Speaker 1: And it's kind of, like, thinner.
- 32:01Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 32:01Speaker 11: And more, like, dainty. And has the higher and is
- 32:03Speaker 11: very effeminate. And I'm like, so is that one the...
- 32:06Speaker 11: girl of the bunch or is that.
- 32:08Speaker 1: One just the.
- 32:11Speaker 11: Fop it's like it's definitely a very different and then
- 32:14Speaker 11: there's two actually when they when the chamberlain comes back
- 32:17Speaker 11: in with the with the gelflings they're both very proper
- 32:20Speaker 11: and have the frillier shirts and i'm like so is
- 32:23Speaker 11: there like a whole different group of them yeah they
- 32:26Speaker 11: run away they scream and they run away scared of
- 32:29Speaker 11: that poor little gelfling girl who I noticed looks like
- 32:32Speaker 11: one of the Olsen twins or both.
- 32:34Speaker 18: Of them not just one of them she looks so
- 32:38Speaker 18: much like Mary-Kate.
- 32:38Speaker 14: It's frightening I thought.
- 32:41Speaker 10: The gelflings looked like little manga characters or something.
- 32:46Speaker 3: They did look very anime-esque Kira Kira look.
- 32:50Speaker 6: Here Just look at this.
- 32:57Speaker 15: That looks just like the shard.
- 33:00Speaker 20: What does it mean?
- 33:02Speaker 25: And what are those funny marks?
- 33:04Speaker 15: Oh, this is all writing.
- 33:07Speaker 19: What's writing?
- 33:09Speaker 15: Words that stay. My master taught me.
- 33:12Speaker 1: Oh.
- 33:13Speaker 15: When single shines the triple sun, what was sundered and
- 33:19Speaker 15: undone shall be whole, the two made one. By Gelfling Hand,
- 33:26Speaker 15: or else by none. By Gelfling Hand? Do you know
- 33:30Speaker 15: what that means, Kira?
- 33:31Speaker 2: Wait.
- 33:34Speaker 14: This is a piece of the Dark Crystal.
- 33:36Speaker 15: Then that's what my master meant.
- 33:38Speaker 20: Yes.
- 33:39Speaker 15: I have to put it.
- 33:40Speaker 14: You have to heal the.
- 33:42Speaker 1: I never liked Jin, though, for some reason.
- 33:44Speaker 15: I don't know.
- 33:44Speaker 1: I don't like dudes with bangs.
- 33:46Speaker 13: It grosses me out.
- 33:47Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Was it me, or did he have, like, purple highlights?
- 33:50Speaker 11: Yeah, he did.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:52Speaker 11: But that was punk rock back then.
- 33:53Speaker 17: Oh, definitely.
- 33:54Speaker 5: He was new wave.
- 33:55Speaker 1: I'm not going to hate on him for that.
- 33:56Speaker 11: He was new wave Jin.
- 33:56Speaker 1: I thought that was kind of cool.
- 33:57Speaker 4: He got it when he was dropping acid.
- 33:58Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 33:58Speaker 1: He kind of looked like Steve Perry. I want to
- 34:01Speaker 1: cut my hair. Steve Perry was awesome. Had the same haircut.
- 34:04Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Kind of.
- 34:05Speaker 11: Blue. I don't know. The other thing I noticed they
- 34:08Speaker 11: developed so much in this time was the speech patterns. Like, again,
- 34:13Speaker 11: any general puppet show, everybody just talks and they have
- 34:15Speaker 11: their own, like, they actually bother to give them, like,
- 34:18Speaker 11: weird little quirks and like even just the way like
- 34:21Speaker 11: the way aura talks is weird and it's like natural
- 34:25Speaker 11: it's but it comes off yeah the more that you
- 34:27Speaker 11: work it you're like it always matches up with before
- 34:30Speaker 11: it's not like random just gibberish that he throws out
- 34:33Speaker 11: or weird things it's like every it's all a pattern
- 34:36Speaker 11: that is actually like how you would run into somebody that,
- 34:39Speaker 11: you know, probably speaks their own weird language. It's like
- 34:42Speaker 11: you met Nell somewhere.
- 34:46Speaker 12: Oh, God.
- 34:46Speaker 6: Take a bite back.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Take a bite back. How did I get roped into
- 34:50Speaker 1: watching that? I have never seen it.
- 34:53Speaker 13: And I feel, I think I feel lucky.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Yeah, you don't need to see it.
- 34:57Speaker 20: It's not.
- 34:57Speaker 14: Well, there's one question I had, and I had it
- 34:58Speaker 14: when we were watching the movie.
- 35:00Speaker 20: If, um, the girl Kira if she was abandoned as
- 35:03Speaker 20: a baby and taken to live with these pod people
- 35:07Speaker 20: saying whatever how is it she doesn't have to speak
- 35:09Speaker 20: the same language as.
- 35:10Speaker 6: The the other Gelfling she's.
- 35:12Speaker 20: A Gelfling but I mean because if she was a
- 35:14Speaker 20: baby and brought up by people that spoke a different language.
- 35:17Speaker 10: How she's just really smart well no they had that
- 35:19Speaker 10: remember when they touched hands they had that like inner
- 35:21Speaker 10: knowing Gelfling kind of heritage thing like they knew each
- 35:24Speaker 10: other's thoughts and memories and stuff like that.
- 35:26Speaker 11: She's spoken before then yeah yeah i don't know.
- 35:29Speaker 13: I mean unless i think it was just like powers
- 35:34Speaker 13: i don't know.
- 35:35Speaker 11: I don't know because she didn't know how to read
- 35:37Speaker 11: that was interesting because i thought maybe she found like
- 35:39Speaker 11: books about her heritage but she didn't know how to
- 35:42Speaker 11: read when they got there only only jim knew how
- 35:44Speaker 11: to read.
- 35:44Speaker 16: So maybe it's like the groan from Stargate, you were
- 35:48Speaker 16: born with all the knowledge.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Of the ones before you.
- 35:50Speaker 7: Possibly, yeah, maybe.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Possibly.
- 35:52Speaker 3: They don't really delve into the physiology of the elephant
- 35:54Speaker 3: that much.
- 35:55Speaker 11: I'd say the pod people taught her, but they seem
- 35:57Speaker 11: kind of dumb.
- 35:57Speaker 1: Yeah, they seem like, yeah.
- 35:59Speaker 6: They're simpletons.
- 36:00Speaker 1: They just, like, teach her how to party.
- 36:01Speaker 11: They mean well, but yeah.
- 36:02Speaker 1: It seems like that's all they do is they, like,
- 36:04Speaker 1: rock it.
- 36:04Speaker 11: They eat and rock. That's really all they know how
- 36:06Speaker 11: to do.
- 36:06Speaker 1: Drink some mead. Yeah, they all have, like, kind of
- 36:10Speaker 1: beanie caps on them. They're a simple folk. They dance.
- 36:14Speaker 13: They are so cute.
- 36:15Speaker 14: They do dance.
- 36:17Speaker 11: Actually, when you get into their little world, it reminded
- 36:19Speaker 11: me very much of Fraggle Rock. Oh, yeah. Not the creatures,
- 36:22Speaker 11: but where they live.
- 36:23Speaker 1: Fraggle Rock. Very subterranean.
- 36:25Speaker 13: It was like party all the time.
- 36:26Speaker 11: Well, that was what I was thinking with the natural, because,
- 36:29Speaker 11: I mean, that's something that Lucas tapped into with the
- 36:32Speaker 11: whole Return of the Jedi, with the naturals fighting against
- 36:35Speaker 11: the and they had all the weaponry and stuff. This
- 36:37Speaker 11: was like a toned down version, but it's still very much,
- 36:40Speaker 11: you know, the natural pod people versus the evil, you know,
- 36:43Speaker 11: society wielding Skeksis.
- 36:45Speaker 6: So, I don't know. But it tapped into a lot
- 36:48Speaker 6: of that.
- 36:48Speaker 11: And while we're on that Lucas kind of ripping them
- 36:50Speaker 11: off idea, the scene with the jen and his old
- 36:54Speaker 11: master versus was that very much the yoda death scene
- 36:58Speaker 11: several years before the yoda death scene or well a
- 37:01Speaker 11: year or so so they were almost working on it
- 37:02Speaker 11: at the.
- 37:03Speaker 3: Same time yeah it disappeared exactly like yoda wow and
- 37:07Speaker 3: no you know not like frank oz isn't sitting there
- 37:11Speaker 3: i mean he's actually.
- 37:12Speaker 11: On set in both movies so I don't know, maybe
- 37:15Speaker 11: he gave them the idea.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Maybe he said, hey, you know, because... It works so
- 37:18Speaker 1: well as if Yoda disappeared because.
- 37:20Speaker 11: They're all friends, I mean.
- 37:21Speaker 14: It makes things more convenient. You ain't got to worry
- 37:24Speaker 14: about burying anybody.
- 37:25Speaker 11: I wish I just disappeared when I died, right? It
- 37:27Speaker 11: makes things so much easier.
- 37:28Speaker 1: There's only the fresh scent of pine.
- 37:29Speaker 4: I like the crumbling one, though. That didn't seem like
- 37:33Speaker 4: a lot of fun.
- 37:34Speaker 6: Again, the evil is much creepier and gross.
- 37:36Speaker 14: You're probably going to shake the sheet out after all.
- 37:39Speaker 13: The effect of that was really amazing, too.
- 37:40Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 37:41Speaker 13: I was trying to figure out how it was done,
- 37:43Speaker 13: and I couldn't wrap my mind around it. Wrap my
- 37:46Speaker 13: tiny little brain around it. Yeah, that was awesome.
- 37:51Speaker 11: As we get into the end, not to go into
- 37:54Speaker 11: all of it, but just the overall of it, it
- 37:56Speaker 11: also seems like a very mythological story. It's like by
- 38:00Speaker 11: the time you get to the end, you've got almost
- 38:01Speaker 11: these gods, but they're almost like the Greek gods because
- 38:06Speaker 11: they're very flawed. They mention themselves that they were arrogant.
- 38:11Speaker 11: And they kind of screwed up the world. So it's
- 38:14Speaker 11: very flawed divine beings that also are very powerful. But
- 38:18Speaker 11: then somewhere along the way, they screwed things up for themselves.
- 38:20Speaker 11: And they need the Chosen One. So he's almost like Perseus.
- 38:23Speaker 11: You go out, you do this, and save everything.
- 38:25Speaker 6: So it had a very mythological feel to it, too.
- 38:28Speaker 1: There's a lot of.
- 38:32Speaker 3: You brought the book or whatever, and it seems like
- 38:35Speaker 3: there's a lot of backstory and a lot of explanation
- 38:40Speaker 3: that they thought about this world and how things worked
- 38:44Speaker 3: and actually what some of the symbols mean and all that.
- 38:47Speaker 1: And it's like, God, of course, here it is again.
- 38:50Speaker 1: I wish that there was more. It would have been
- 38:52Speaker 1: awesome if there was more. you know more about I
- 38:55Speaker 1: don't know.
- 38:56Speaker 10: The world and what not I mean I know it
- 38:58Speaker 10: probably wasn't contained in the movie but I mean I'm
- 39:01Speaker 10: sure there's pages somewhere I mean you know as much thought.
- 39:05Speaker 20: I'm sure there's a fan fiction out there somewhere little
- 39:09Speaker 20: Kira action rated mature just for you.
- 39:14Speaker 3: Oh god just google search Skeksis butthole I'm sure you'll
- 39:20Speaker 3: find something yeah.
- 39:21Speaker 20: Yikes Yeah, it was mildly uncomfortable when they were doing
- 39:26Speaker 20: that scene at the end where the Skeksis were being
- 39:29Speaker 20: drawn into the other ones.
- 39:30Speaker 14: I'm like, what is it time to anally rape your enemy?
- 39:34Speaker 1: And now we are one.
- 39:35Speaker 11: You've kept us down for a thousand years.
- 39:39Speaker 1: I'll show you, motherfucker. You took our castle.
- 39:42Speaker 10: It's always sunny in Philadelphia where Nightman comes and takes
- 39:48Speaker 10: the little boy.
- 39:49Speaker 13: Max is like, this is the scene where I anally
- 39:51Speaker 13: raped you. Charlie's like, no!
- 39:53Speaker 1: Yikes.
- 39:57Speaker 14: Oh, wow. It made me uncomfortable just to look on
- 39:59Speaker 14: all of his faces.
- 40:00Speaker 3: They were all frozen in horror like, oh, it's going in.
- 40:05Speaker 6: They were kind of scared.
- 40:07Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 40:09Speaker 14: Without moving.
- 40:12Speaker 11: A thousand years?
- 40:13Speaker 1: Damn it, you're going to pay.
- 40:16Speaker 13: Oh, no.
- 40:16Speaker 1: You're going to pay.
- 40:19Speaker 20: That's a whole different turn for a.
- 40:24Speaker 1: But you didn't see that one coming.
- 40:26Speaker 11: Actually.
- 40:26Speaker 1: That's what she said.
- 40:31Speaker 6: We'll get to that later. Actually, there is a tie-in to.
- 40:33Speaker 7: That later, but.
- 40:34Speaker 11: Oh, wow.
- 40:35Speaker 13: I'm afraid.
- 40:36Speaker 11: Oh, what else?
- 40:39Speaker 14: What else can you go.
- 40:40Speaker 11: Where can you go after that?
- 40:41Speaker 13: Oh, I noticed in the movie, if anyone's ever seen
- 40:44Speaker 13: The Village... Yeah.
- 40:46Speaker 12: The little.
- 40:46Speaker 13: The Skeksis, their costume... Or they.
- 40:50Speaker 10: Were pretty much the exact same little costume that the monsters.
- 40:53Speaker 13: In the village had.
- 40:54Speaker 11: Yeah, that's true, actually.
- 40:55Speaker 13: It was almost the same. The little spikes on the
- 40:57Speaker 13: back and the little creepy bird lizard head.
- 40:59Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 41:00Speaker 13: Pretty much the same.
- 41:02Speaker 11: Well, I mean, all of the Skeksis had weird outfits,
- 41:05Speaker 11: but specifically Chamberlain's was badass. Like at the beginning, before
- 41:08Speaker 11: they stripped him, that huge red thing that he had
- 41:11Speaker 11: and a giant back.
- 41:12Speaker 10: And plus those things always wore red cloaks and stuff
- 41:14Speaker 10: like that.
- 41:14Speaker 1: His was awesome.
- 41:17Speaker 11: I really like that.
- 41:17Speaker 1: Tortoise on Rochelle or something.
- 41:20Speaker 12: It was sweet.
- 41:21Speaker 14: Pretty bitchin'. I.
- 41:26Speaker 11: Don't know. You have to like any kid's movie that
- 41:28Speaker 11: has a jump scare in the middle of it. oh
- 41:31Speaker 11: the fizz gig jump scare like i remember as a
- 41:33Speaker 11: kid that like came out of nowhere like it really
- 41:36Speaker 11: probably was the introduction to the jump scare for every
- 41:38Speaker 11: kid of that generation because it's the first movie you're
- 41:41Speaker 11: allowed to go see where you're like uh-oh because like
- 41:44Speaker 11: well they set it up though they're like something's going
- 41:47Speaker 11: on but it's still really calm you get a little
- 41:49Speaker 11: fake out here and there and then all of a
- 41:50Speaker 11: sudden it's right yeah totally yeah You're a.
- 41:55Speaker 14: Vicious little bastard.
- 41:56Speaker 1: I want one so bad.
- 41:58Speaker 6: You should devise one.
- 41:59Speaker 12: Yeah, you should crossbreed.
- 42:00Speaker 14: What if I get to eat our neighbor's dogs?
- 42:02Speaker 1: Oh, I hope.
- 42:03Speaker 16: Pomeranians are pretty much as close as you're going to get.
- 42:06Speaker 11: They're horrible, though.
- 42:07Speaker 13: Yeah, they are.
- 42:09Speaker 11: You don't want one of those.
- 42:09Speaker 10: Pomeranians are twice as mean and twice as likely to
- 42:11Speaker 10: get you killed if you're trying to hide out.
- 42:14Speaker 1: From some Skeksis.
- 42:16Speaker 13: Skeksis?
- 42:17Speaker 1: Skeksis.
- 42:18Speaker 13: I mean, what's the plural of that?
- 42:20Speaker 1: Skeksi.
- 42:21Speaker 13: Skeksi.
- 42:25Speaker 11: Skeksi.
- 42:27Speaker 13: It could be Skeksis, though.
- 42:29Speaker 10: You don't know.
- 42:31Speaker 13: I don't know what dictates how to pluralize something.
- 42:33Speaker 22: I don't know.
- 42:34Speaker 6: The sets are awesome.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Just in general.
- 42:37Speaker 11: Huge i mean looking at how big some of those
- 42:40Speaker 11: are it's the whole thing was such that's again why
- 42:42Speaker 11: i give it credit i mean just imagine trying to
- 42:44Speaker 11: make a movie period with people think how much trouble
- 42:47Speaker 11: that is now i mean imagine that you've got to
- 42:51Speaker 11: build these huge sets and then on top of that
- 42:54Speaker 11: you have to build your main characters and then on
- 42:57Speaker 11: top of that Each one of them, especially like the Skeksis,
- 42:59Speaker 11: and well, definitely both of the Mystics and the Skeksis,
- 43:03Speaker 11: took from two to four people to run each one
- 43:06Speaker 11: of them. And they're walking around the entire time. It's
- 43:08Speaker 11: not like the Muppet Show where they're standing behind a stage.
- 43:11Speaker 11: they're all in motion they're shooting this with real cameras
- 43:14Speaker 11: so that scene like when they're when they're attacking uh
- 43:17Speaker 11: chamberlain you've got like 10 of them walking around and
- 43:20Speaker 11: you've got three to four people below each one of
- 43:22Speaker 11: these walking through the set it's amazing that this thing
- 43:26Speaker 11: got made.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Um try to look it up why are you looking.
- 43:32Speaker 20: At the question i had what were the things that
- 43:34Speaker 20: were up in the balcony like they look like people
- 43:36Speaker 20: in robes that were walking like Yeah.
- 43:39Speaker 4: Who are those? The slave guys? I don't know.
- 43:43Speaker 14: They don't look like they were wearing black robes.
- 43:45Speaker 6: Which part? Like in the chamber?
- 43:46Speaker 20: Like any time they show the chamber, like in like balconies,
- 43:50Speaker 20: they would come around from the side and get up
- 43:52Speaker 20: on this balcony and they were like, I don't remember.
- 43:55Speaker 4: Never showed their faces or anything.
- 43:57Speaker 6: I don't remember.
- 43:59Speaker 11: I don't know. $ 15 million, which is really cheap compared
- 44:04Speaker 11: to what it would be.
- 44:05Speaker 14: For how long ago that was, that's a lot.
- 44:07Speaker 11: Even then, I mean, that's a lot of money, especially
- 44:09Speaker 11: for somebody to give someone making a movie with puppets.
- 44:11Speaker 6: For him to get backed for $ 15 million is huge.
- 44:14Speaker 10: Yeah, you've got to think that most of the money
- 44:16Speaker 10: when it comes to making movies goes to pay the actors.
- 44:18Speaker 13: And there weren't really... I mean, Jim Henson.
- 44:21Speaker 11: He's a name, but I mean, that's the other thing
- 44:23Speaker 11: that's kind of amazing on this is watching them do it.
- 44:26Speaker 11: And like the director is actually doing like he's not
- 44:28Speaker 11: sitting off in a chair somewhere. He's running around on
- 44:31Speaker 11: the set with his hand shoved in a puppet doing work.
- 44:33Speaker 11: And the direct friend guys are sitting next to him
- 44:35Speaker 11: doing the same thing. Like they're both actually characters in
- 44:38Speaker 11: the movie. They're actually on set. doing something pretty much
- 44:42Speaker 11: the entire time not that directing isn't hard enough in
- 44:45Speaker 11: and of itself but on top of directing they're actually
- 44:48Speaker 11: creating and moving the characters around physically in every scene
- 44:52Speaker 11: of these that's more than most directors do i'd.
- 44:55Speaker 16: Say Watching the special features when they're talking about it
- 44:59Speaker 16: and you see them doing it, it's just amazing.
- 45:01Speaker 11: Yeah, that's equally as entertaining as watching the behind the scenes.
- 45:04Speaker 16: The stage, what you see is all up here and
- 45:06Speaker 16: then they're all down here. It's like tunnels and crazy stuff.
- 45:10Speaker 6: I don't understand.
- 45:11Speaker 4: My mind's boggled.
- 45:13Speaker 11: That's the thing. Watching those scenes when it is a
- 45:15Speaker 11: camera and it's spinning around them and I'm like, there's
- 45:18Speaker 11: 40 people below you. How are you even getting this shot?
- 45:20Speaker 11: It's like there's so many people on that little set.
- 45:23Speaker 11: The fact that they got these shots and there's not
- 45:25Speaker 11: a guy walking in the background carrying cables and shit
- 45:28Speaker 11: is like amazing, really, that all this came together. And
- 45:31Speaker 11: then the other one watching the behind the scenes stuff
- 45:33Speaker 11: is like how amazing it is that they transfer or
- 45:36Speaker 11: they switch back and forth. between scale and you really
- 45:40Speaker 11: almost don't even notice like the lance the lance riders
- 45:43Speaker 11: are like real people they're full size but then they
- 45:46Speaker 11: have like a half size one that's got the gelfling
- 45:48Speaker 11: on it they've got like little ones same thing with
- 45:51Speaker 11: like the chamber set it's like one huge stage but
- 45:53Speaker 11: then they have miniatures that they shoot in and it's
- 45:55Speaker 11: just about all of it like they can switch in
- 45:57Speaker 11: and out pretty quick and you.
- 45:59Speaker 6: Don't really even notice or even jen like jen When.
- 46:03Speaker 11: You see him running, that's amazing. Like, the fact that
- 46:05Speaker 11: he's a puppet through half of it, but then they also.
- 46:08Speaker 1: He's like a little kid.
- 46:09Speaker 11: Yeah, I think he was just like a little guy.
- 46:11Speaker 6: I mean, that's what they got.
- 46:12Speaker 11: That's what Bill was saying when I was talking to him.
- 46:15Speaker 11: You know, everybody thinks that it was all puppeteers and
- 46:17Speaker 11: it's all Frank Oz, but, I mean, a lot of
- 46:18Speaker 11: the other characters they brought in were acrobats. And, like,
- 46:21Speaker 11: you know, it's like Cirque du Soleil at this point.
- 46:24Speaker 11: This is what they would have been hiring him to
- 46:25Speaker 11: do now. So it's that level of performer that... They
- 46:29Speaker 11: really knew how to move, and they brought in dancers
- 46:32Speaker 11: and acrobats so that they could physically do all this
- 46:35Speaker 11: stuff that normal people couldn't do, really.
- 46:38Speaker 10: You can only really tell certain scenes where he was
- 46:41Speaker 10: climbing that it was a.
- 46:44Speaker 13: Person, not a puppet.
- 46:45Speaker 11: But even then, it's so cool to have that. What
- 46:50Speaker 11: other puppet movie all of a sudden has your puppet
- 46:52Speaker 11: moving by itself, really? It's weird when it all kind
- 46:57Speaker 11: of crosses that line. I think that's what sort of
- 46:59Speaker 11: broke the mold at that point. When you're a little
- 47:01Speaker 11: kid and you're just like, Kermit never runs around. It's
- 47:04Speaker 11: like you never see. You're used to seeing very waist-up shots,
- 47:07Speaker 11: and then you see... this you know full head-to-toe shot
- 47:10Speaker 11: of this creature running across the scene.
- 47:12Speaker 1: It's like you just don't see his feet yeah you
- 47:14Speaker 1: just see him.
- 47:15Speaker 11: Yeah we all just did the kermit hand motion you
- 47:18Speaker 11: know what we did you're thinking of it you're probably
- 47:21Speaker 11: doing it right now which is funny because even in
- 47:24Speaker 11: there jim henson does that exact same thing he's like
- 47:26Speaker 11: well when i move kermit it's like this but then
- 47:29Speaker 11: he talks about how different he does it in here
- 47:31Speaker 11: which is again amazing that you know being a puppeteer
- 47:34Speaker 11: he assigns very specific movements to each one he really
- 47:38Speaker 11: does give each one a different character and gives them
- 47:41Speaker 11: different mannerisms and just a way of walking that's way
- 47:45Speaker 11: more detailed than anybody would put.
- 47:46Speaker 10: Into something like i was saying earlier puppetry is just
- 47:50Speaker 10: like a seriously underrated art form like it really you
- 47:54Speaker 10: really have to have a knowledge of how the human
- 47:56Speaker 10: body works and moves to be able to even imitate
- 47:59Speaker 10: like To make your hand imitate the motions of an
- 48:03Speaker 10: animal or a person, that's just amazing.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Well, especially aren't they underneath for the most part?
- 48:07Speaker 11: Yeah, you can't see it.
- 48:08Speaker 1: To get the point.
- 48:09Speaker 3: Of view of how they are in acting, where the
- 48:13Speaker 3: puppets are moving and what they need to convey, it's
- 48:15Speaker 3: like you've got to have a pretty good sense of
- 48:17Speaker 3: space and, I don't know, spatial awareness of like, if
- 48:21Speaker 3: I do this or whatever, that's... He's going to yawn
- 48:25Speaker 3: and maybe give a peace sign.
- 48:27Speaker 11: With the smaller ones, with the bigger ones, they've just
- 48:30Speaker 11: gotten to the point of technology where the huge ones,
- 48:33Speaker 11: when they're working it, they've actually got monitors.
- 48:35Speaker 2: Oh, cool.
- 48:36Speaker 11: And he was talking about a lot of this we
- 48:38Speaker 11: couldn't have done 10, 20 years before. Before, they could
- 48:41Speaker 11: have rigged up a monitor inside the big giant unit itself.
- 48:45Speaker 11: They're watching what they're doing on a monitor inside the puppet.
- 48:49Speaker 11: That's amazing.
- 48:51Speaker 6: That's so complicated.
- 48:52Speaker 4: Did Agra have a person inside of him?
- 48:55Speaker 6: It was Frank Oz.
- 48:56Speaker 1: I noticed Frank Oz was her voice.
- 48:58Speaker 11: They show him.
- 48:59Speaker 1: He's in the suit.
- 49:00Speaker 11: He's in the suit, too.
- 49:02Speaker 14: I don't think he did the voice. I don't think
- 49:03Speaker 14: he was in there.
- 49:04Speaker 4: He didn't do the voice?
- 49:05Speaker 1: Yeah, he did do the voice.
- 49:06Speaker 13: No, he didn't. The voice of Agra was the same
- 49:09Speaker 13: voice of Kira, I think is what it said.
- 49:11Speaker 1: I don't remember the name.
- 49:13Speaker 13: I don't remember the name.
- 49:15Speaker 11: But I know he did the puppet treat on it. Because, yeah,
- 49:17Speaker 11: they showed him in the suit running around.
- 49:20Speaker 20: Yeah that was what her voice sounded so familiar i
- 49:22Speaker 20: want to know who it was so i watched the
- 49:24Speaker 20: credits because i remember he was listed first in the
- 49:26Speaker 20: suit and then later they did the voices and i
- 49:28Speaker 20: couldn't remember but i still can't remember where i've heard
- 49:31Speaker 20: that voice before the voice.
- 49:32Speaker 4: Um When she's in the garbage.
- 49:36Speaker 6: Yeah, the witch.
- 49:37Speaker 4: The witch, yeah.
- 49:39Speaker 1: Well, she's not really a witch, but she's the garbage collector. Yeah,
- 49:41Speaker 1: the porter.
- 49:42Speaker 20: Yeah.
- 49:42Speaker 4: Don't you want your bear?
- 49:44Speaker 1: Oh, it's no bear, ain't no bear.
- 49:47Speaker 4: Oh, you like bear, don't you?
- 49:49Speaker 11: I think.
- 49:50Speaker 1: No, I think it is her. I don't know.
- 49:54Speaker 11: The characters are just so.
- 49:55Speaker 4: Similar.
- 49:56Speaker 11: Similar.
- 49:57Speaker 4: See, for the longest time, I thought Frank Oz.
- 49:59Speaker 1: Did her voice.
- 50:00Speaker 6: Yeah, Catherine Mullen.
- 50:02Speaker 4: It's something I always liked about The Labyrinth was... Hoggle?
- 50:06Speaker 4: Because he had a real person inside of him.
- 50:10Speaker 6: Billy Whitlaw?
- 50:11Speaker 11: What was that?
- 50:12Speaker 6: Billy Whitlaw.
- 50:13Speaker 14: Yeah, that's the name I reckon.
- 50:14Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 50:15Speaker 11: I mean, it really, and that's how, again, referring to
- 50:19Speaker 11: him as that earlier, that's how even Jim Henson referred
- 50:22Speaker 11: to this movie was it was a work of art.
- 50:23Speaker 11: And he's like, it's not something that I made. It's
- 50:25Speaker 11: something that I brought in hundreds of people. It's a
- 50:27Speaker 11: collaborative work of art almost. And it's, I think what
- 50:31Speaker 11: he described is the thing he was really most proud of.
- 50:33Speaker 3: And I think it's, it's well deserved yeah there's nothing
- 50:37Speaker 3: like it there's never been anything like it.
- 50:39Speaker 11: Since yeah i mean there definitely was nothing before that
- 50:41Speaker 11: there was a full-length feature film with no human beings
- 50:45Speaker 11: in it like that's amazing even now they won't do
- 50:47Speaker 11: that like studios won't back that now yeah They were
- 50:50Speaker 11: trying to do that with that alien prequel. They wanted
- 50:54Speaker 11: to do the backstory where there are no humans. And
- 50:56Speaker 11: I don't know that they're going to back it even now.
- 50:58Speaker 11: And this is how many years later?
- 51:00Speaker 13: Well, I mean, the Gelflings are human-like.
- 51:03Speaker 6: No, I mean, they're your main characters.
- 51:06Speaker 1: They're humanoid type, but they're not human.
- 51:08Speaker 6: Yeah, they're who you identify with. They're definitely.
- 51:10Speaker 1: Like primordial dwarves, almost.
- 51:12Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 51:13Speaker 11: Well, they were meant to be very animal-like, which, once again,
- 51:16Speaker 11: ties to that. When they showed early sketches, they were
- 51:18Speaker 11: almost like foxes and bears. They had a lot more
- 51:23Speaker 11: animal features to them, and they sort of.
- 51:26Speaker 6: in the middle somewhere between people.
- 51:27Speaker 11: And the animal look that they start.
- 51:29Speaker 4: It kind of reminds me of deer.
- 51:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:30Speaker 6: The eyes are kind of, yeah, kind of have that.
- 51:33Speaker 11: Deer look to them. But I think it's just every day.
- 51:36Speaker 11: They spent like five years making this film and it
- 51:39Speaker 11: shows it on screen. Every detail that's in there. I
- 51:42Speaker 11: don't know.
- 51:42Speaker 4: Five years.
- 51:43Speaker 11: Five years. It's amazing.
- 51:46Speaker 1: That's insane.
- 51:47Speaker 16: I don't see how Frank Oz and Jim Henson didn't
- 51:49Speaker 16: go crazy playing with puppets all the time.
- 51:51Speaker 11: You'd think.
- 51:52Speaker 16: Like, there has to be some part of yourself that
- 51:54Speaker 16: you'd have to disassociate that with to keep yourself like
- 51:58Speaker 16: mildly sane. Otherwise I'd be talking to.
- 52:02Speaker 6: My puppets all day.
- 52:05Speaker 1: Well, that was.
- 52:07Speaker 11: Actually my favorite part in watching the behind the scenes.
- 52:09Speaker 6: There's this one shot and they're shooting.
- 52:11Speaker 11: This big scene and he's got all the actors out
- 52:12Speaker 11: there doing their thing. And he's back sitting behind the
- 52:14Speaker 11: camera watching it. And he's got this huge grin on
- 52:17Speaker 11: his face and he's just, he's loving the fact that,
- 52:20Speaker 11: I mean, this is this world that he created and he,
- 52:23Speaker 11: it's three-dimensionally in front of him. He's actually physically making this.
- 52:26Speaker 11: And I don't know, it was just so, there was
- 52:28Speaker 11: just this very essential joy that, yeah, he seems like
- 52:32Speaker 11: such a great guy. And there's, I don't know, just
- 52:35Speaker 11: so much he did that's amazing.
- 52:38Speaker 6: And I think he just did it out of love.
- 52:40Speaker 11: It was what, that's what he wanted to do his
- 52:42Speaker 11: entire life. And he spent so much of his time
- 52:45Speaker 11: making these creatures that, yeah, I think it's just impressive
- 52:48Speaker 11: when it comes together this well.
- 52:50Speaker 12: Definitely.
- 52:51Speaker 3: There will never be anything else like it, so if
- 52:53Speaker 3: you have not seen it, you know, but definitely treat yourself.
- 52:57Speaker 3: Or if you have, you know, a young one or anything,
- 53:00Speaker 3: I think that, you know, given the age and kind
- 53:02Speaker 3: of what you deem appropriate, it's a movie for young kids,
- 53:07Speaker 3: you know.
- 53:07Speaker 1: I mean, we all saw it. It's not going to
- 53:10Speaker 1: star anybody. Yeah, most of us saw it as kids, yeah. Yeah,
- 53:12Speaker 1: I mean, definitely.
- 53:13Speaker 14: Yeah, but kids today don't see the same things that
- 53:15Speaker 14: we saw as kids.
- 53:16Speaker 4: You know.
- 53:17Speaker 11: That's right.
- 53:18Speaker 3: I mean it is weak as cherries yeah it is
- 53:21Speaker 3: it is hardcore.
- 53:22Speaker 14: Bubble wrap for kids.
- 53:24Speaker 11: These days it is and i was thinking that by
- 53:26Speaker 11: the end i was like spoiler alert we already threw
- 53:28Speaker 11: that out there but i mean what other kids movie
- 53:31Speaker 11: towards the end one of your main characters just gets.
- 53:34Speaker 1: Knifed right in the back.
- 53:36Speaker 11: Knifed in the back dies on the floor i was
- 53:38Speaker 11: like whoa like right after throwing a cute fuzzy creature
- 53:42Speaker 11: to his doom into a fire yeah I mean at
- 53:44Speaker 11: that point both of them are dead you know I
- 53:46Speaker 11: mean like kids are traumatized even when they fake you
- 53:49Speaker 11: out and they bring them back it's like that's traumatizing
- 53:51Speaker 11: like there are those moments where you're just like holy
- 53:54Speaker 11: shit what just happened my childhood is ruined so yeah
- 53:58Speaker 11: it's definitely one to make sure your kids is up
- 54:01Speaker 11: for that sort of thing because you don't see that
- 54:03Speaker 11: in stuff today well.
- 54:04Speaker 10: I think it's polar opposites nowadays it's like overly sugar-coated
- 54:09Speaker 10: and like no nothing bad ever happens in these children's
- 54:12Speaker 10: cartoons and then you have like extreme gratuitous violence.
- 54:16Speaker 13: And it's just like that is.
- 54:18Speaker 26: What is wrong with people today and i think that's
- 54:20Speaker 26: no happy that's what makes it harder probably is we're
- 54:23Speaker 26: so used to the sugar coating that when you throw
- 54:26Speaker 26: something hardcore in the middle of that for a kid
- 54:28Speaker 26: that's sitting.
- 54:28Speaker 11: There waiting for it to be nothing but happy and
- 54:31Speaker 11: then holy shit what just happened and I think that's
- 54:33Speaker 11: almost more jarring than just letting them watch Transformers 2.
- 54:36Speaker 6: It depends on.
- 54:37Speaker 1: How you raise your kid, though.
- 54:39Speaker 9: My kid was raised on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Beetlejuice,
- 54:43Speaker 9: and not the cartoon, but the actual movie, and stuff
- 54:48Speaker 9: like that. So things don't really scare her. I mean,
- 54:50Speaker 9: she loves the Dark Crystal. She loves the Labyrinth.
- 54:53Speaker 14: Army of Darkness.
- 54:53Speaker 1: Army of Darkness she loves.
- 54:55Speaker 12: Excellent.
- 54:56Speaker 4: How old is she?
- 54:58Speaker 1: She's 11.
- 54:58Speaker 8: No, she's 10.
- 54:59Speaker 1: Yeah, she'll be 11 next year.
- 55:00Speaker 4: She's going to be the coolest.
- 55:02Speaker 6: I'm telling you she's got good taste.
- 55:04Speaker 9: Uh nightmare uh uh nightmare for christmas favorite movie so
- 55:09Speaker 9: that's awesome that was.
- 55:10Speaker 13: When tim burton actually made it like.
- 55:12Speaker 11: Yeah when he again when he put a little well
- 55:14Speaker 11: once again he kind of copped out so he came
- 55:16Speaker 11: up with a good idea and then let a real
- 55:18Speaker 11: director step in and do all the hard work see
- 55:20Speaker 11: he didn't do what jim henson and frank oz did
- 55:22Speaker 11: here he was i mean they're on set moving these
- 55:25Speaker 11: things every day he just kind of went harry make
- 55:27Speaker 11: me a nice movie.
- 55:29Speaker 1: Even then he was kind of a lazy bastard.
- 55:32Speaker 9: But I think if you expose your kids to some
- 55:34Speaker 9: of the things that you saw as a kid.
- 55:36Speaker 1: Then they won't, I think it's, I mean, it's frightening.
- 55:40Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 55:40Speaker 6: It's bringing them up that way.
- 55:41Speaker 27: I mean like parts like army darkness where, you know, the,
- 55:45Speaker 27: the blood comes flying out of the pit.
- 55:48Speaker 1: My kid thinks it's the.
- 55:49Speaker 11: Funniest thing, you know, she's like, you know, You can
- 55:53Speaker 11: definitely transfer your work sense of humor to the next generation.
- 55:57Speaker 6: I say do that, but that's because I'm a sick bastard.
- 56:00Speaker 1: Well, it's tradition. You've got to.
- 56:02Speaker 11: Pass on your knowledge.
- 56:03Speaker 6: Your kid usually takes after you one way or the
- 56:05Speaker 6: other anyway.
- 56:06Speaker 11: Just give it a little nudge sometimes.
- 56:10Speaker 20: This is why my sister doesn't let me around her kids,
- 56:12Speaker 20: because she knows the things I would let them watch.
- 56:14Speaker 6: That's true. It's in her best interest.
- 56:17Speaker 14: And again, the things she lets them watch, I can't
- 56:19Speaker 14: really say.
- 56:20Speaker 19: Yeah.
- 56:20Speaker 13: My details.
- 56:21Speaker 11: I question her mothering skills.
- 56:23Speaker 16: Mr.
- 56:23Speaker 14: Happy Face and Charlie the Unicorn.
- 56:25Speaker 6: She does not need to let them near a computer.
- 56:27Speaker 13: Should I let them watch that?
- 56:28Speaker 9: Yes.
- 56:28Speaker 11: Yeah. True.
- 56:30Speaker 10: My friend used to let her kids watch Robot Chicken.
- 56:33Speaker 10: I didn't think.
- 56:34Speaker 11: That was a good idea.
- 56:35Speaker 6: It's a cartoon that makes it okay.
- 56:37Speaker 1: I don't let Izzy watch Robot Chicken.
- 56:41Speaker 11: Or Family Guy.
- 56:42Speaker 4: She wants to.
- 56:42Speaker 1: Watch Family Guy.
- 56:44Speaker 4: That's so much better.
- 56:46Speaker 3: It deals with more adult things that she's not.
- 56:49Speaker 27: Old enough to understand right now. She understands monsters. She
- 56:54Speaker 27: understands being scared. Stuff like that. That she understands, but,
- 57:00Speaker 27: you know.
- 57:01Speaker 11: But again, that's where, like, the girl that rung me
- 57:02Speaker 11: up at the store, she'd be like, oh, it's a cartoon, honey,
- 57:05Speaker 11: sit down and watch it. She'd be letting them watch,
- 57:07Speaker 11: you know, Robot Chicken all day long, because it's just
- 57:09Speaker 11: a cartoon.
- 57:10Speaker 14: Let them watch Fritz the Cat.
- 57:11Speaker 11: Yeah, man.
- 57:13Speaker 14: I tried to rent that once when I was a kid,
- 57:15Speaker 14: but my mom's like, no.
- 57:16Speaker 11: I think we're working that one in, because that's not
- 57:18Speaker 11: what you think, really. I finally watched it years later,
- 57:21Speaker 11: and I was like, oh, this is not at all
- 57:22Speaker 11: what I expected, so it's... it's a different movie but
- 57:25Speaker 11: I still wouldn't let children watch it but it's not
- 57:28Speaker 11: what you expect going in so.
- 57:30Speaker 13: I feel like I need to watch it.
- 57:31Speaker 11: Yeah I think we I think we're throwing it on
- 57:33Speaker 11: the list here yeah even though it has nothing to
- 57:36Speaker 11: do he totally disowned it now he did.
- 57:38Speaker 13: But he like disassociated himself.
- 57:40Speaker 11: I think by the time the movie came about but
- 57:42Speaker 11: originally yeah it's his character but alright so before we
- 57:47Speaker 11: get away from Dark Crystal totally we did get feedback
- 57:50Speaker 11: nice oh right on it is time for your two
- 57:52Speaker 11: cents on the Dark Crystal And once again, who has
- 57:56Speaker 11: our backs with their thoughts on the movie, but our
- 57:58Speaker 11: fellow podcasters. So, first up, we hear from Metal Mikey.
- 58:02Speaker 4: Hey, I remember him.
- 58:04Speaker 10: Yes.
- 58:04Speaker 4: I met him.
- 58:05Speaker 6: He sang us a song.
- 58:07Speaker 11: Who had a little problem leaving a message the first
- 58:09Speaker 11: time he called, which explains his slightly overwhelmed nature at
- 58:12Speaker 11: the beginning of this message. So, yeah, here's Metal Mikey.
- 58:15Speaker 19: Holy crap. I, Metal Mikey, was about to have a
- 58:19Speaker 19: cat shit fit. Because this dialing the new Movie Meltdown
- 58:24Speaker 19: voicemail line was just melting my mind.
- 58:27Speaker 20: Also, it's a complication.
- 58:28Speaker 19: I'm telling you, this old ticker can't take too much more.
- 58:33Speaker 1: But you did.
- 58:35Speaker 19: Ask for a request on Twitter about thoughts on Dark Crystal. And, oh, boy,
- 58:40Speaker 19: do I have them. Do I have them.
- 58:45Speaker 11: Oh, my God.
- 58:47Speaker 19: I remember, I never actually saw the movie in a theater,
- 58:49Speaker 19: but I do recall having seen it a few times
- 58:52Speaker 19: back in my youth during its original VHS run. I recall,
- 58:56Speaker 19: oddly enough, outside of all of the weird, bizarre puppetry
- 59:00Speaker 19: in it, the one that would usually kind of freak
- 59:02Speaker 19: me out the most was Agra. And not even really
- 59:05Speaker 19: so much Agra in action, but sort.
- 59:06Speaker 11: Of like that one credit still that they have of Agra.
- 59:10Speaker 19: You know, kind of like the black against the blue background.
- 59:13Speaker 4: And it just.
- 59:14Speaker 6: Gave me the chills as a kid.
- 59:15Speaker 19: But everything else about the movie, well, here's the thing.
- 59:19Speaker 19: Even as a kid... I do realize I like the movie. However,
- 59:23Speaker 19: it seems like I can always only remember the Skeksis part.
- 59:27Speaker 14: Why?
- 59:27Speaker 19: Because I love the Skeksis. I mean, okay, yeah, you know,
- 59:30Speaker 19: you have the Gelflings. Okay, they're nice, pretty, happy, sun-shiny, sparkly,
- 59:35Speaker 19: fucking elf things. But really, aren't they that terribly interesting?
- 59:41Speaker 4: And they're okay.
- 59:42Speaker 19: You have, like, the giant dewback, humpback, camel mystic guys. But, well, okay,
- 59:49Speaker 19: they're kind of there. And you have, like, the little
- 59:52Speaker 19: cute potato people that get brain-zapped by Diskeksis. But are
- 59:56Speaker 19: they that interesting?
- 59:57Speaker 15: No.
- 59:58Speaker 19: It's Diskeksis. They're just repulsive, evil as fuck, backstabbing creatures.
- 1:00:04Speaker 4: And you know what?
- 1:00:05Speaker 19: They're entertaining as hell. To this day, I was still,
- 1:00:11Speaker 19: by some insane feat... Love to be able to say,
- 1:00:15Speaker 19: you know what? I can make a Skeksis costume that
- 1:00:17Speaker 19: would work and go out in it and just scare
- 1:00:20Speaker 19: people completely at random. Especially if it was a Chancellor.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: Why?
- 1:00:23Speaker 19: Because a Chancellor was... He had, like, what I call
- 1:00:26Speaker 19: the Cobra Commander effect. The Cobra Commander and Skeletor effect.
- 1:00:30Speaker 19: He's just that sniveling, slightly cowardly member of an evil organization,
- 1:00:36Speaker 19: but is still basically mostly smarter and more competent than
- 1:00:40Speaker 19: most of the people around him. So, go figure. Oh,
- 1:00:43Speaker 19: and one more thing about Dark Crystal that totally rules.
- 1:00:46Speaker 22: Fizz gig.
- 1:00:47Speaker 19: That's all I'm saying. I want a fizz gig as
- 1:00:49Speaker 19: a pet. Make it happen right now. Anyways, yeah, that's
- 1:00:53Speaker 19: my thoughts. Me and the Mikey of Action Attraction Podcast. Yeah,
- 1:00:59Speaker 19: that's all I got. So y'all take it easy over
- 1:01:01Speaker 19: at Boob and Ballot Town, and I'll talk to you
- 1:01:03Speaker 19: again soon.
- 1:01:03Speaker 5: All right. Adios.
- 1:01:05Speaker 20: Bye.
- 1:01:06Speaker 11: There you go.
- 1:01:07Speaker 12: Nice, nice.
- 1:01:08Speaker 11: So I think, Misty, we're putting you in charge of
- 1:01:10Speaker 11: genetically engineering a phys gig.
- 1:01:12Speaker 14: I'll work on it.
- 1:01:13Speaker 11: Please. Some of those animal bioengineering ideas we were using
- 1:01:18Speaker 11: last time out.
- 1:01:19Speaker 21: I'll work on it.
- 1:01:20Speaker 11: And once again, right there with me on the evil characters,
- 1:01:23Speaker 11: that's what I was attached to. Everything else is cool
- 1:01:27Speaker 11: because it's part of this world, and I think the
- 1:01:29Speaker 11: world's amazing how intricate and detailed and everything it is.
- 1:01:32Speaker 11: but once again what am I drawn to the evil
- 1:01:34Speaker 11: bastards of the bunch why are.
- 1:01:36Speaker 9: Most kids drawn to the evil characters I mean when
- 1:01:39Speaker 9: I was a kid it was before before I got
- 1:01:42Speaker 9: into GI Joe because GI Joe wasn't really around at
- 1:01:45Speaker 9: the time I mean there was GI Joe like my
- 1:01:48Speaker 9: dad's GI Joe yeah that you know but the 80s
- 1:01:51Speaker 9: incarnate but the 80s incarnation wasn't around so mostly what
- 1:01:54Speaker 9: I got into was World War.
- 1:01:55Speaker 22: Two stuff yeah and I was fascinated with Nazis and
- 1:01:59Speaker 22: And then I was fascinated with Cobra and fascinated with
- 1:02:03Speaker 22: the Decepticons and anything that.
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: Was like the bad guy. I don't know why it was,
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: but like. Kids, for some reason, want to identify with
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: the bad characters.
- 1:02:14Speaker 11: I think it's just more, like you said, I think
- 1:02:16Speaker 11: it's more interesting.
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: They have more of a backstory. They seem more interesting.
- 1:02:20Speaker 11: I don't know what it is.
- 1:02:21Speaker 6: But look at, I mean, specifically, like you mentioned G.I.
- 1:02:23Speaker 19: Joe.
- 1:02:23Speaker 11: Look at G.I.
- 1:02:24Speaker 17: Joe.
- 1:02:24Speaker 11: Look at the awesome costumes and characters and everything in
- 1:02:28Speaker 11: the evil Cobra side.
- 1:02:29Speaker 10: G.I.
- 1:02:29Speaker 11: Joe they're like they got fatigues on they're like they're
- 1:02:33Speaker 11: most interchangeable every once in a while you get a
- 1:02:35Speaker 11: cool character but for the most part it's like wait
- 1:02:37Speaker 11: what's that guy's name again like you forget half of
- 1:02:40Speaker 11: them you're like oh.
- 1:02:40Speaker 9: Yeah I remember when they first came out they just
- 1:02:42Speaker 9: they all had the same helmet they all came with
- 1:02:44Speaker 9: the same M16 except for you know rock and roll
- 1:02:47Speaker 9: came with like a machine gun you.
- 1:02:48Speaker 11: Know yeah But you look at Storm Shadow versus Major Blood.
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: It's like all of those.
- 1:02:54Speaker 11: It's like every one of them has a cool name
- 1:02:55Speaker 11: and a cool accessory and a cool look. And they're
- 1:02:58Speaker 11: just way more interesting. And I think that's just in
- 1:03:01Speaker 11: general storytelling. It's like the good guys have to be
- 1:03:04Speaker 11: there to be the good guys. But you won't have
- 1:03:06Speaker 11: a story without the conflict of the bad guys. And
- 1:03:09Speaker 11: I think that is just an essence of storytelling. I
- 1:03:12Speaker 11: think that's what sucks us in. It's just like Star Wars.
- 1:03:15Speaker 11: The same thing with Star Wars. The Empire. The Stormtroopers.
- 1:03:18Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: You know, I love the Snow Troopers, the Spears guys.
- 1:03:22Speaker 17: Oh, yeah.
- 1:03:23Speaker 6: Snow Troopers are awesome. Those helmets are badass.
- 1:03:26Speaker 19: Yeah.
- 1:03:26Speaker 11: But this very much felt like that when I was
- 1:03:28Speaker 11: watching it. It does play into those things. And I
- 1:03:29Speaker 11: wasn't even going to tie it to one or the
- 1:03:32Speaker 11: other like trying to steal from the other even though
- 1:03:34Speaker 11: i kind of called lucas out but but like i
- 1:03:36Speaker 11: mean to me jen is very much the luke of
- 1:03:38Speaker 11: the story he's kind of boring really but he needs
- 1:03:41Speaker 11: to be there he is the the chosen one he's
- 1:03:43Speaker 11: the last hope he's got to save everything and without
- 1:03:46Speaker 11: him you won't have the story but really luke versus
- 1:03:48Speaker 11: darth vader who's cooler you know it's like same thing
- 1:03:51Speaker 11: with this you know who's cooler here is gexus or
- 1:03:53Speaker 11: the weird boring hippie like.
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: You know natural mistakes potato people oh.
- 1:03:59Speaker 28: That was the potty the pot people were actually the
- 1:04:03Speaker 28: the when he drew them out when the guy sketched
- 1:04:05Speaker 28: him he modeled them after potatoes that's why their faces
- 1:04:07Speaker 28: actually look like.
- 1:04:10Speaker 11: They did he modeled them yep they're organic they were
- 1:04:13Speaker 11: that organic they were modeled after potatoes so yep i'm
- 1:04:17Speaker 11: right there with you mikey so Once again, check out
- 1:04:20Speaker 11: Metal Mikey at metalmikey.libson.com. He watches much of the same special,
- 1:04:27Speaker 11: I'm using quotes there, movies that we like around here.
- 1:04:30Speaker 11: So a little more of an action slant, but odds are, yeah,
- 1:04:33Speaker 11: you'll like the same kind of stuff if you haven't
- 1:04:35Speaker 11: heard Mikey.
- 1:04:37Speaker 6: He's lots of fun.
- 1:04:37Speaker 11: All right, so next up we hear from Doc at
- 1:04:41Speaker 11: Family Movie Night. But not just Doc, and I think
- 1:04:44Speaker 11: this is massively important in our discussion here, but we
- 1:04:47Speaker 11: also hear from KK, Doc's daughter.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: Cool.
- 1:04:49Speaker 11: So, to me, it's going to be very interesting to
- 1:04:51Speaker 11: see a kid now's take on this movie, because we
- 1:04:55Speaker 11: kind of know what we all think of it, and
- 1:04:56Speaker 11: we're all just old children at this point.
- 1:04:58Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:04:59Speaker 11: We definitely came about at a different age and saw
- 1:05:02Speaker 11: it at a different point in time in general. So
- 1:05:05Speaker 11: it'll be interesting to see what KK thinks of this movie.
- 1:05:08Speaker 11: So here is Duck and KK.
- 1:05:10Speaker 12: Hello, Movie Meltdown gang. This is Dr. J and my daughter.
- 1:05:13Speaker 25: KK!
- 1:05:14Speaker 12: From Family Movie Night. And we saw that you were
- 1:05:16Speaker 12: reviewing The Dark Crystal. On this next episode. And we
- 1:05:23Speaker 12: wanted to call in our opinions on Dark Crystal. We
- 1:05:26Speaker 12: haven't called in together before. But we reviewed this one
- 1:05:29Speaker 12: and watched it a few months ago. So, KK, what
- 1:05:32Speaker 12: did you think of The Dark Crystal?
- 1:05:34Speaker 25: I gave it a B +.
- 1:05:35Speaker 12: You gave it a B +. Did you like it
- 1:05:37Speaker 12: a lot?
- 1:05:38Speaker 25: Yeah.
- 1:05:40Speaker 12: What did you like about it?
- 1:05:41Speaker 25: I just liked how all the characters looked. They were
- 1:05:44Speaker 25: funny looking.
- 1:05:45Speaker 12: Funny looking dark Muppets?
- 1:05:47Speaker 19: Yep.
- 1:05:48Speaker 12: I liked some of the non-being characters best. My memories
- 1:05:52Speaker 12: of it still... I like the long bunny rabbit-eared, long-legged
- 1:05:57Speaker 12: striders that they rode on.
- 1:05:59Speaker 14: I like those too.
- 1:06:00Speaker 12: The crustacean soldier bugs that came out to attack them.
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: I like the dog.
- 1:06:06Speaker 15: The dog.
- 1:06:06Speaker 13: The dog thing.
- 1:06:07Speaker 12: The fuzzy ball dog?
- 1:06:08Speaker 25: Yeah.
- 1:06:10Speaker 10: And.
- 1:06:11Speaker 25: That girl's family.
- 1:06:13Speaker 12: So, a lot of good characters.
- 1:06:16Speaker 21: Um.
- 1:06:17Speaker 12: Kind of a confusing story, a dark story about the
- 1:06:22Speaker 12: split with the mystics and the Skeksis and a great
- 1:06:26Speaker 12: mythology they built up around it that seemed a little
- 1:06:30Speaker 12: clumsy to follow. I don't know what you thought.
- 1:06:32Speaker 25: It was kind of hard to follow.
- 1:06:36Speaker 12: And really dark. It didn't have that really triumphant, feel-good,
- 1:06:42Speaker 12: happy moment that kids' movies oftentimes have. I don't know
- 1:06:44Speaker 12: if you saw that.
- 1:06:45Speaker 25: Like at the end, it didn't have a We saved
- 1:06:48Speaker 25: the day!
- 1:06:49Speaker 6: Yay!
- 1:06:51Speaker 12: But, you know, it had some neat imagery, and it
- 1:06:55Speaker 12: holds up. Yeah, well, fair. I mean, it's dated, I think.
- 1:07:02Speaker 12: I don't know what you thought. Did you feel like
- 1:07:04Speaker 12: it felt like an older movie, or did you feel
- 1:07:06Speaker 12: like it was more modern?
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: It felt older.
- 1:07:10Speaker 12: Yeah. Well, anyway, we enjoyed the movie, and we're glad
- 1:07:13Speaker 12: you're reviewing it, and I look forward to hearing what
- 1:07:15Speaker 12: y'all thought about it. And, of course, the nostalgia factor
- 1:07:20Speaker 12: adds in to reviewing a movie like this. KK had
- 1:07:23Speaker 12: to see it fresh without remembering it from her childhood.
- 1:07:27Speaker 12: But anyway, we like the show. We listen. Don't call
- 1:07:29Speaker 12: in enough. Anything else you want to say to them, KK?
- 1:07:33Speaker 25: Not really, but still. Thanks for calling in. That's about it.
- 1:07:38Speaker 12: Yeah, thanks for calling us, Brian, and I hope you
- 1:07:40Speaker 12: all have a good day.
- 1:07:42Speaker 14: Bye!
- 1:07:44Speaker 11: Those guys are awesome. Oh, I'm thoroughly entertained with KK.
- 1:07:50Speaker 11: I'm glad she has her own show because she needs, oh,
- 1:07:52Speaker 11: I don't know. I think it's, it is one of
- 1:07:54Speaker 11: those that probably would look kind of dated to kids now,
- 1:07:58Speaker 11: but I don't know. To me, it's still got such a,
- 1:08:02Speaker 11: it's got almost like a very magical quality to it.
- 1:08:05Speaker 11: Like they really did bring in like this super high
- 1:08:07Speaker 11: end cinematographer and he used like a special filter on
- 1:08:10Speaker 11: everything to give it like one big sort of, Almost
- 1:08:14Speaker 11: like a tint to it, so it all was like
- 1:08:16Speaker 11: this fantasy world and everything sort of fit into this
- 1:08:19Speaker 11: one big world. So I don't know, to me, you
- 1:08:21Speaker 11: can almost immerse yourself into the weirdness of this world.
- 1:08:24Speaker 6: I think it helps.
- 1:08:25Speaker 11: I think it helps that it's not modern day and
- 1:08:28Speaker 11: it doesn't have human characters. I think it really is
- 1:08:30Speaker 11: something that's a little more timeless because you can just
- 1:08:33Speaker 11: be lost in the world that they create there.
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: Definitely.
- 1:08:36Speaker 11: Again, effects-wise, I can see kids, but kids now are
- 1:08:39Speaker 11: probably just not used to seeing puppets, period.
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: Yeah. And if so, it's... That'd be cool just in
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: and of itself.
- 1:08:45Speaker 21: Yeah.
- 1:08:45Speaker 11: If so, it's probably very silly, you know, kid-ified Goofy puppets.
- 1:08:49Speaker 11: These were trying to be, like, almost realistic. They gave
- 1:08:52Speaker 11: them skin tones and texturing and hair and stuff that
- 1:08:55Speaker 11: a lot of, you know, kiddie puppets don't. Yeah.
- 1:08:58Speaker 6: Very detailed eye.
- 1:09:00Speaker 11: That they put together so it's yeah it's it's a
- 1:09:02Speaker 11: different thing that they're going for in this that most
- 1:09:05Speaker 11: stuff today either doesn't have or just doesn't even try
- 1:09:08Speaker 11: to do so it's i don't know it's interesting to
- 1:09:10Speaker 11: see what other people think of it especially new generations
- 1:09:14Speaker 11: as they come along but definitely I actually think the
- 1:09:17Speaker 11: storyline is pretty cool. And again, that may be the
- 1:09:20Speaker 11: nostalgia thing kicking in because I don't remember ever being
- 1:09:22Speaker 11: confused by it, but I also remember watching it repeatedly.
- 1:09:26Speaker 11: So I think maybe the first time through, I might've
- 1:09:28Speaker 11: been confused. I might've been like, okay, I'm been like,
- 1:09:30Speaker 11: I don't know. It's a lot to follow. But as
- 1:09:33Speaker 11: I saw it on cable 40 different times and we
- 1:09:35Speaker 11: had it on tape, once, you know, we got the
- 1:09:37Speaker 11: big fancy VHS machine, you know, recorded and watched it
- 1:09:40Speaker 11: so many times that, you know, I really piece together
- 1:09:43Speaker 11: the two halves, and the one cuts his hand and
- 1:09:45Speaker 11: the other does, or the one dies and the other disappears.
- 1:09:49Speaker 11: I think after so many viewings, you really get the story,
- 1:09:52Speaker 11: but it may take a couple of times. Especially if
- 1:09:54Speaker 11: you're a kid, it may take a few different viewings
- 1:09:56Speaker 11: to really latch on to all that stuff.
- 1:09:58Speaker 4: I think that I just realized that today when one disappears.
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: I don't know why. I had never put it together before.
- 1:10:04Speaker 6: Yeah, the third time. The same beam.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: That makes sense.
- 1:10:08Speaker 4: You're just not disappearing for the fun of it.
- 1:10:12Speaker 11: I'm going to, I'm tired of walking.
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: I'm out of here, man.
- 1:10:15Speaker 6: Beam me up, Mystic Scotty.
- 1:10:18Speaker 11: Oh, Lord. So, yeah.
- 1:10:22Speaker 6: Otherwise, thank you, Doc and KK. Yay, thank you.
- 1:10:26Speaker 11: Once again, check them out at fmnpodcast.com. They're very entertaining
- 1:10:30Speaker 11: and a very different take on a show that pretty
- 1:10:33Speaker 11: much nobody has, so I give them credit for doing
- 1:10:35Speaker 11: something original.
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: It's very cool.
- 1:10:38Speaker 11: All right, so I think that wraps up our Dark
- 1:10:41Speaker 11: Crystal talk. We will take a break and be back
- 1:10:46Speaker 11: with the rest of the show.
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: What's it for?
- 1:10:49Speaker 14: Is that what you want to know?
- 1:10:51Speaker 11: You want to know what.
- 1:10:52Speaker 15: This is all about?
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: Is that it, Gautlin?
- 1:10:55Speaker 11: You don't know?
- 1:10:56Speaker 23: You've never looked at the heavens. Everything in the heavens
- 1:11:01Speaker 23: is here, moving as the heavens move.
- 1:11:06Speaker 15: This is how to know when.
- 1:11:09Speaker 4: That's what.
- 1:11:11Speaker 15: Suns, moons, stars.
- 1:11:15Speaker 11: Yes, the angle of eternity.
- 1:11:18Speaker 15: That's how I know it's coming.
- 1:11:21Speaker 23: How else can I make a prediction?
- 1:11:58Speaker 19: Still plenty of time to come and be served at
- 1:12:01Speaker 19: the refreshment center before showtime.
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: Hey kids, are you ready.
- 1:12:04Speaker 7: For Mid-America's largest genre film festival?
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: That's right, it's.
- 1:12:07Speaker 17: Time for the 6th annual Fright Night Film Fest, coming
- 1:12:10Speaker 17: to you July 30th through August 1st in Louisville, Kentucky.
- 1:12:14Speaker 17: Featuring special guests, director, producer, Oscar winner, and living legend,
- 1:12:18Speaker 17: Roger Corman. Plus a Dawn of the Dead reunion, a
- 1:12:22Speaker 17: Night of the Creeps reunion, the Girls of the Nightmare
- 1:12:24Speaker 17: on Elm Street films, plus a.
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: 25th anniversary Fright Night reunion.
- 1:12:28Speaker 17: All that plus the Georgetown drive-in experience, live music, and
- 1:12:31Speaker 17: more horror merchandise that you'll know what to do with.
- 1:12:33Speaker 7: And even an appearance from the Movie Meltdown Gang. So

- 1:13:08Speaker 5: Problem, you know. You haven't seen enough movies.
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: All of life's riddles are answered in the movies.
- 1:13:14Speaker 15: And now, on with the show.
- 1:13:34Speaker 21: There's a dark crystal trying to overtake me, trying to
- 1:13:43Speaker 21: waste me all of the time. I've been caught in
- 1:13:52Speaker 21: a mistral astral traveling frenzy.
- 1:13:58Speaker 11: All right, we're back and we've got feedback.
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: Sweet ass.
- 1:14:04Speaker 11: Kind of we finally uh we did get some uh
- 1:14:08Speaker 11: some feedback and it's it's kind of good because it
- 1:14:10Speaker 11: sort of balances out everything we said last week because
- 1:14:13Speaker 11: we were pretty much on board for that movie and
- 1:14:16Speaker 11: i i imagined a lot of people were going to
- 1:14:18Speaker 11: disagree with us so um yeah we heard from uh
- 1:14:21Speaker 11: retro man steve the editor of lost highway and creator
- 1:14:24Speaker 11: of our awesome logo by the way as a side
- 1:14:26Speaker 11: note but um yeah he wrote to us and he
- 1:14:28Speaker 11: says Hey, Movie Meltdown. So I heard you were going
- 1:14:31Speaker 11: to check out Heartbeats. Frankly, I don't remember seeing it
- 1:14:34Speaker 11: or even hearing about.
- 1:14:34Speaker 6: This movie when I was a kid.
- 1:14:36Speaker 11: Perhaps I subconsciously blocked it from my childhood memories to
- 1:14:39Speaker 11: avoid the trauma of reliving it because after 10 minutes,
- 1:14:42Speaker 11: I wanted to.
- 1:14:42Speaker 6: Punch this movie in the face.
- 1:14:44Speaker 11: Nice. Hard.
- 1:14:46Speaker 6: I mean, what was the point?
- 1:14:47Speaker 11: Andy Kaufman and his girlfriend robot just wanted to look
- 1:14:49Speaker 11: at trees and get mauled by a bear? gotta say
- 1:14:52Speaker 11: i was rooting for the bear also i need to
- 1:14:54Speaker 11: watch a rodney dangerfield robot tell bad jokes for an
- 1:14:57Speaker 11: hour and a half i already saw back to school
- 1:14:59Speaker 11: it was funnier nice it seemed like a lot of
- 1:15:02Speaker 11: the same cast from rock and roll high school and
- 1:15:03Speaker 11: shopping mall were in this one including the giant kill
- 1:15:06Speaker 11: bot with its own annoying dialogue i did like the
- 1:15:09Speaker 11: kill bot though he goes on to say oh the
- 1:15:11Speaker 11: big difference between those movies where they were good and
- 1:15:14Speaker 11: this wasn't heartbeats had no redeeming value to its to
- 1:15:18Speaker 11: it whatsoever. In fact, I think I may be a
- 1:15:20Speaker 11: bit dumber. It was 78 minutes of pure crap that
- 1:15:23Speaker 11: made me miss watching Mannequin and Weekend at Bernie's 2.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: Nice. Mannequin for the win.
- 1:15:30Speaker 17: Nice.
- 1:15:32Speaker 11: I didn't either, actually.
- 1:15:36Speaker 6: I think there's many redeeming qualities.
- 1:15:37Speaker 11: There are none in Mannequin or Weekend at Bernie's 2.
- 1:15:41Speaker 11: One is genius.
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: I was going to say I love Weekend at Bernie's.
- 1:15:44Speaker 11: Yeah, the first one is genius.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: Genius!
- 1:15:47Speaker 11: So yeah, he wraps it up with, I love your show,
- 1:15:49Speaker 11: but if you expose me to something like this again,
- 1:15:52Speaker 11: I will make you watch Manos, the Hands of Fate
- 1:15:54Speaker 11: on an infamous loop without the MST3K commentary. Oh, the pain.
- 1:15:59Speaker 11: The pain. Signed, Retro Man Steve.
- 1:16:01Speaker 4: That was one of.
- 1:16:02Speaker 13: My favorite Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes.
- 1:16:05Speaker 6: Because they annihilate that movie.
- 1:16:08Speaker 11: So yes, it was kind of good to have a
- 1:16:10Speaker 11: counterpoint because we threw it out there and even the
- 1:16:13Speaker 11: call we got was on our side. So there weren't
- 1:16:14Speaker 11: a whole lot of, uh, of people that bothered to
- 1:16:17Speaker 11: get ahold of us that felt differently. But I think
- 1:16:20Speaker 11: a lot of people from when I could read off
- 1:16:21Speaker 11: the internet had issues with that movie and I had
- 1:16:24Speaker 11: issues with that movie because I think it's kind of
- 1:16:26Speaker 11: the opposite of this movie today. It's like... I mean,
- 1:16:29Speaker 11: they didn't bother to invest any time in the world.
- 1:16:31Speaker 11: There was no work put into the world that they
- 1:16:34Speaker 11: lived in. They came up with these characters and then
- 1:16:36Speaker 11: gave them nothing to do.
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: They almost had no idea what to do with them
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: once they made them.
- 1:16:40Speaker 11: Nothing to do, no world to do it in. And
- 1:16:42Speaker 11: if you've got this future society, where the hell is it?
- 1:16:45Speaker 6: Because they didn't bother to put it into the movie.
- 1:16:47Speaker 10: So.
- 1:16:47Speaker 11: Yeah, there's many points I agree with you on. There's
- 1:16:50Speaker 11: a lot of ridiculous shit going on in that movie.
- 1:16:53Speaker 11: But I think there was some redeeming stuff along the way.
- 1:16:56Speaker 11: The whole relationships between the robots was kind of cool.
- 1:17:00Speaker 11: The fact that they had no story to put the
- 1:17:01Speaker 11: relationships into was pretty much their problem, really. But whatever.
- 1:17:08Speaker 11: But yes, thank you once again to Retro Man Steve.
- 1:17:11Speaker 11: And we're glad to hear from you.
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: And just for everyone, keep retro-ing.
- 1:17:17Speaker 11: Keep the calls and emails coming in.
- 1:17:26Speaker 8: Don't be shy. We'd like to hear from you. So

- 1:17:44Speaker 8: at Pop Syndicate. Or go to popsyndicate.com and go to
- 1:17:47Speaker 8: the forum sections and look for Movie Meltdown.
- 1:17:58Speaker 13: Amelie sounds a lot like me.
- 1:17:59Speaker 10: I've never watched the movie, but we have the same haircut,
- 1:18:03Speaker 10: and it says, lives alone and works in a cafe
- 1:18:06Speaker 10: when she finds a trove of toys hidden for 40
- 1:18:09Speaker 10: years behind a baseboard in her apartment. That could totally
- 1:18:12Speaker 10: happen to me any day.
- 1:18:13Speaker 12: Mm-hmm.
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: Jesus.
- 1:18:16Speaker 9: You could.
- 1:18:18Speaker 13: God knows what's hidden behind that.
- 1:18:20Speaker 11: Are you okay?
- 1:18:20Speaker 13: I pushed my earphone into my ear too far.
- 1:18:23Speaker 11: Into your brain.
- 1:18:24Speaker 13: A punctured my brain.
- 1:18:27Speaker 11: Okay, kids, get out your Dakota pins.
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:18:34Speaker 6: KK did a much better fanfare.
- 1:18:38Speaker 11: Alright, so it is time for the movie meltdown secret
- 1:18:40Speaker 11: circle reveal of the next two features. For you members
- 1:18:43Speaker 11: of the secret circle. Sort of.
- 1:18:45Speaker 6: Kind of.
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: Sort of. Kind of. Maybe one and a half.
- 1:18:47Speaker 15: Or one.
- 1:18:48Speaker 11: Next week's feature, we at least have the movie we
- 1:18:50Speaker 11: threw it out there for the votes this is what
- 1:18:53Speaker 11: I realized in throwing out there the vote for whatever
- 1:18:55Speaker 11: you want in Dennis Hopper's career Dennis Hopper did a
- 1:18:58Speaker 11: hell of a lot of movies.
- 1:18:59Speaker 17: Yeah.
- 1:19:00Speaker 11: So, basically.
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: Some good, some bad.
- 1:19:03Speaker 19: Yeah.
- 1:19:04Speaker 11: Well, but we got votes for good and bad. We
- 1:19:06Speaker 11: got votes for really awesome stuff that he did. We
- 1:19:09Speaker 11: got stuff for ridiculous stuff that he did.
- 1:19:11Speaker 4: Space Truckers.
- 1:19:12Speaker 11: Space Truckers is awesome.
- 1:19:13Speaker 4: Mario Brothers.
- 1:19:14Speaker 10: Yes.
- 1:19:15Speaker 11: Both of which are ridiculous and awesome at the same time. So, yeah,
- 1:19:19Speaker 11: we got to a point where there was so much
- 1:19:21Speaker 11: diversity that nothing was overwhelming. So I think we've come
- 1:19:24Speaker 11: up with one that got the votes and sort of
- 1:19:27Speaker 11: put us all on board to do it. So we're
- 1:19:30Speaker 11: going to go with probably one of the best-known movies
- 1:19:33Speaker 11: he's in and certainly one of his best performances ever.
- 1:19:35Speaker 11: We're going to go with Blue Velvet.
- 1:19:37Speaker 21: Nice.
- 1:19:38Speaker 6: A very weird, twisted, Lynchian movie.
- 1:19:42Speaker 11: So... Yeah, prepare yourself. Go watch some more Blue Velvet
- 1:19:46Speaker 11: and drink some PBR or whatever the hell it is
- 1:19:49Speaker 11: you need to do to prepare for this movie. The
- 1:19:52Speaker 11: following week, we're taking some sort of weird side route here.
- 1:19:57Speaker 11: And the best thing I've come up with is that
- 1:20:00Speaker 11: we're actually having a film fest here with a lot
- 1:20:02Speaker 11: of cool movies coming in.
- 1:20:03Speaker 6: So I think I'm actually going.
- 1:20:04Speaker 11: To head out there next week and try to put
- 1:20:07Speaker 11: together a show on the film fest floor there and
- 1:20:09Speaker 11: see what kind of cool stuff we can come up with.
- 1:20:11Speaker 16: So.
- 1:20:12Speaker 11: we will have a possible episode coming from the flyover
- 1:20:16Speaker 11: film fest here. So yeah, that should be interesting. And
- 1:20:19Speaker 11: a lot of new stuff that people may have not
- 1:20:21Speaker 11: even seen. So that will be cool to kind of
- 1:20:23Speaker 11: get the word.
- 1:20:23Speaker 20: Out on those.
- 1:20:24Speaker 6: So I'm assuming we have nothing else.
- 1:20:27Speaker 11: So we'll fire up the closing song, which by the way,
- 1:20:32Speaker 11: there's a good amount of songs out there that were,
- 1:20:34Speaker 11: you know, I like to work in all this different
- 1:20:36Speaker 11: music along the way. And usually it's just to sort
- 1:20:38Speaker 11: of show the effect of these movies have and how
- 1:20:41Speaker 11: many people they've, affected and inspired and yeah you get
- 1:20:45Speaker 11: a lot of weird stuff along the way and um
- 1:20:47Speaker 11: this one uh the dark crystal was a whole lot
- 1:20:49Speaker 11: of crazy um i don't know like goth kids with
- 1:20:53Speaker 11: weird dance beats and shit but um then i got
- 1:20:56Speaker 11: to this one this one is uh the dark crystal.
- 1:20:58Speaker 4: Wrap it's a dark crystal wrap oh yeah.
- 1:21:02Speaker 11: It's frightening I was halfway there when I realized it
- 1:21:05Speaker 11: was the Dark Crystal.
- 1:21:07Speaker 5: Oh, no.
- 1:21:08Speaker 11: Which is funny in and of itself.
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 1:21:10Speaker 11: But I was totally sold when he threw out the line,
- 1:21:12Speaker 11: I think I want to get.
- 1:21:13Speaker 6: Up and cure his ass.
- 1:21:15Speaker 12: All right.
- 1:21:16Speaker 11: On that note, that about does it. We will return
- 1:21:18Speaker 11: next week. Same geek time, same geek feed. Thanks for listening.
- 1:21:23Speaker 20: Thanks, guys.
- 1:21:23Speaker 13: Later, y'all.
- 1:21:25Speaker 11: I'll think he was ass.
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: I'll think he was ass.
- 1:21:28Speaker 24: Yo, what's up, everybody?
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: This is Lil Jen, a.k.a.
- 1:21:31Speaker 19: MC Gelfling.
- 1:21:32Speaker 11: I'm about to take you on a little journey.
- 1:21:35Speaker 24: Raise up your glasses, y'all, and get ready for the
- 1:21:37Speaker 24: story of the Dark Crystal. Once upon a time, in
- 1:21:42Speaker 24: a distant land of dark, there was a huge-ass super-sized bottle.
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: Of Cristal.
- 1:21:46Speaker 4: Living under three suns, all.
- 1:21:47Speaker 11: The people having fun.
- 1:21:48Speaker 24: They were clinking and drinking Cristal for everyone.
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: But then it was a dropout. A snack hit the deck.
- 1:21:52Speaker 4: It was Skeksis and the next year it.
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: Was a take.
- 1:21:55Speaker 24: So I got wrecked and sent two different races to
- 1:21:57Speaker 24: two different places. The Skeksis headed west with their creepy
- 1:22:01Speaker 24: dead bird faces. The Uru landed on the east coast
- 1:22:04Speaker 24: for all their help to come. They were all brought
- 1:22:05Speaker 24: to Mystics who liked to sit around and hum. Oh, yeah,
- 1:22:13Speaker 24: I sound good right there. In step the prophecy. There's
- 1:22:16Speaker 24: no stopping me.
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: Gelfand's gonna help things.
- 1:22:18Speaker 24: Pretty soon we'll be popping C.
- 1:22:20Speaker 4: R-I-S to the T-A-L. Full throttle.
- 1:22:22Speaker 24: Face the bottle and break that spell. The whole world
- 1:22:24Speaker 24: is ugly. No one's sipping on bubbly. Wanna get busy
- 1:22:28Speaker 24: without the fizzy.
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: The ladies won't love me.
- 1:22:30Speaker 4: I gotta say the land of thrall.
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: I am foreign.
- 1:22:35Speaker 4: Some Skeksis and go get that Cristal.
- 1:22:38Speaker 24: I went to Agra and got that cracked up shard
- 1:22:40Speaker 24: of Cristal.
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: Then I met Kira and Fizzy Gig. He was a
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: little fucking ball. Jumped on the land strider, rode.
- 1:22:46Speaker 4: To the castle.
- 1:22:47Speaker 24: Faced off with the Skeksis. Man, those dudes are crazy assholes.
- 1:22:52Speaker 11: I put the cracked shard of the bottle back into
- 1:22:54Speaker 11: the right spot.
- 1:22:55Speaker 24: Now the east and west coast got back together and
- 1:22:57Speaker 24: it's jointed.
- 1:22:58Speaker 19: F * * *.
- 1:22:59Speaker 24: Part is a blast, Crystals blowin' fast I'm thinkin' I
- 1:23:04Speaker 24: wanna get up in Kara's ass We're all havin' a ball,
- 1:23:08Speaker 24: there won't be no last call West and East, squash
- 1:23:11Speaker 24: the beat, they're all drinkin' Crystals But the people still comin',
- 1:23:15Speaker 24: and the mystics still hummin' they go That's the.
- 1:23:22Speaker 23: End of the Dark Crystal Hoes, wings I don't have wings.
- 1:23:30Speaker 25: Of course not.
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: You're a boy.
