Transcript
- 0:02The rule book is out just fifteen minutes
- 0:05ago.
- 0:07I've done a quick read.
- 0:08Not really,
- 0:09but we're going to talk about it next.
- 0:21I love the chase and the hunt,
- 0:23and I set the pace when I'm running.
- 0:24I always take what I want,
- 0:26and I always give it one hundred.
- 0:27Don't need a bank, no I'm funded.
- 0:29Play the game like it's nothing.
- 0:30I'm always thankful for something.
- 0:32Don't take for granted, stay humble.
- 0:33Now wake up!
- 0:35It's time to look at the enemy.
- 0:37Look in the mirror if he is no
- 0:39friend to me.
- 0:40It's not working out,
- 0:41maybe it's the chemistry.
- 0:43It's time to break up so I can
- 0:45make a better me.
- 0:47Hey Cowboy, what time is it?
- 0:56It's lunchtime.
- 0:59What is going on, everybody?
- 1:02I finally made a button so I don't
- 1:04have to ruin my voice before every show.
- 1:09I absolutely love it.
- 1:11Absolutely love it.
- 1:12Absolutely love it.
- 1:16You've been busy, dude.
- 1:16I've been.
- 1:17I loaded up some buttons.
- 1:19And, you know,
- 1:20we wanted the rule book early this year.
- 1:22So you're telling me there's a chance.
- 1:26literally just saw it literally just saw
- 1:34it literally just saw it was looking at
- 1:36it we were just talking about right before
- 1:38we went live so
- 1:40It's exciting, bro.
- 1:43Yeah, we wanted it out early, as always.
- 1:47They did put out an Instagram post where
- 1:50they shared quick updates about it.
- 1:54What I'll do is after this,
- 1:55I'll do a quick read of the rulebook
- 1:57tonight.
- 1:58Tomorrow we'll talk about maybe some more
- 2:00specific things because I do have some
- 2:02questions on top of what was released in
- 2:05the reel.
- 2:07But I'm going to go ahead and share
- 2:09my screen.
- 2:11with what they put as the updates so
- 2:14here are those uh quarterfinals are in bat
- 2:18are back twenty five percent of the entire
- 2:20world will qualify for quarterfinals that
- 2:24is new or back again from twenty twenty
- 2:29four uh so we'll have those back
- 2:34there will be a cash prize for the
- 2:36winners of quarterfinals.
- 2:38There's always been a cash prize for the
- 2:41winners of the open,
- 2:43but never for quarterfinals.
- 2:45So now the top five will get five,
- 2:48four, three, two, one grand, respectively,
- 2:52respectfully, respectful, respect,
- 2:54whatever.
- 2:56Easy for you to say.
- 2:57For the top five positions in the
- 3:01quarterfinals.
- 3:02The other thing,
- 3:03they are going to do a buy one,
- 3:05get one if you qualify for both individual
- 3:08and age group quarterfinals.
- 3:09So you only have to pay for one
- 3:12sign up for the quarterfinals and you get
- 3:17to enter both.
- 3:18But you have to register for both.
- 3:21Right.
- 3:22But you only have to pay once.
- 3:27Affiliate prizes are back again.
- 3:29If you remember last year,
- 3:31they gave out affiliate prizes for the top
- 3:33performing affiliates and the most,
- 3:36the highest number of registered athletes.
- 3:40And they are doing even more.
- 3:42The more people who register for the open,
- 3:44the more prizes there are to win.
- 3:49Judging requirements.
- 3:51This is where I was diving in and
- 3:52I still have some questions.
- 3:55At quarterfinals,
- 3:56you need a credential judge is required.
- 3:59Twenty twenty six judges course or
- 4:02advanced judges course.
- 4:04And must be done at a CrossFit affiliate
- 4:06in good standing.
- 4:09Online semifinals back to the two judges.
- 4:14one floor judge, one specific judge.
- 4:18They must have an L-one or higher and
- 4:20the advanced judge's course.
- 4:24And it must be done at a CrossFit
- 4:26affiliate in good standing.
- 4:27So that's the same.
- 4:29I was hoping that that was going to
- 4:31change.
- 4:34I get that you want to promote your
- 4:35affiliates.
- 4:36I get that aspect of it.
- 4:38But the way...
- 4:40that that went down last year with
- 4:43everything going around in CrossFit.
- 4:45I know of people who went to affiliates
- 4:47to do their workouts and were treated
- 4:49horribly.
- 4:51Yeah, I do too.
- 4:54Um,
- 4:54and so I think that CrossFit needs to
- 4:57reach out to their affiliates and say,
- 4:59listen,
- 5:00we've made this requirement to send people
- 5:02your way.
- 5:03Don't treat them like shit when they get
- 5:05there.
- 5:05Just, just,
- 5:10Treat them like you would anybody else
- 5:12that's doing a random drop-in.
- 5:15Yes,
- 5:15they are going to require a little bit
- 5:16more stuff.
- 5:18If it's me, and this is just me,
- 5:22I'm not trying to put all the onus
- 5:24on somebody else.
- 5:25So if I'm going,
- 5:26and I know I have to go do
- 5:27an online semi,
- 5:28and my gym's not affiliated,
- 5:30I'm bringing my own judges.
- 5:33I'm bringing my own judges.
- 5:34The only thing I'm asking you to do
- 5:36is let me say that I did it
- 5:38here.
- 5:40and give me a little bit of floor
- 5:41space, that kind of stuff that I need.
- 5:46I'm trying to get with the affiliate
- 5:48owner, with whoever I need to, to say,
- 5:50hey, look, let me work with you,
- 5:56or work with me.
- 5:57Whatever you need me to do,
- 5:59whatever kind of hoops we need to jump
- 6:00through or whatnot,
- 6:01I'm trying to get that done.
- 6:09to the best of their ability, right?
- 6:13February, February, February, February,
- 6:15February, February, February, February,
- 6:19February,
- 6:44And then say, when's the French throwdown?
- 6:47Which is the week after online semis.
- 6:50I don't know when the online semis are,
- 6:52Lito, for Masters.
- 6:53I haven't read that far into the rulebook.
- 6:55Again, I'm at work.
- 6:57So to read the rulebook,
- 6:59to read the rulebook,
- 7:01I was not going to be able to
- 7:02get through, but I will read it tonight.
- 7:04I know in the elite division,
- 7:06they have moved the online semifinal till
- 7:08after all of the in-person semifinals to
- 7:12clear up the qualification process.
- 7:17but I don't know how they did that
- 7:18for age group.
- 7:23Uh, uh,
- 7:23is it going to be a little worse
- 7:24with the much higher number of athletes
- 7:26moving to semis?
- 7:27Unless I'm remembering wrong.
- 7:29I don't think there's more people moving
- 7:31to semis.
- 7:32There are more people in quarters and that
- 7:34doesn't have the judging requirement this
- 7:36year.
- 7:36Right.
- 7:39Semifinals.
- 7:40You need two judges, blah, blah, blah,
- 7:42all that stuff for online.
- 7:50Why does Corey sound like my helicopter
- 7:52pilot when I was deployed?
- 7:53Because we haven't got him the mic yet.
- 7:56But hey,
- 7:57if you keep buying the third Z like
- 7:59you guys are,
- 8:00we're going to have him a mic real
- 8:01soon.
- 8:01Fancy one.
- 8:04And I'll tell you,
- 8:05I did not take my third Z last
- 8:06night and I felt the difference.
- 8:07Oh, I bet.
- 8:11I woke up last night.
- 8:12My mind was thinking about five hundred
- 8:14things.
- 8:16Thursday quiets my mind down and it lets
- 8:18me dream vividly and deeply.
- 8:22And all the people I've talked to,
- 8:23the REM sleeps are going way up on
- 8:25their watches.
- 8:27So my REM sleep is up because of
- 8:30Thursday.
- 8:30My HRV is trending upwards.
- 8:34And this is just one week since I
- 8:37started taking Thursday.
- 8:39I fall asleep faster.
- 8:41I was telling you yesterday, but like,
- 8:43Holy smokes.
- 8:45I'm falling asleep a whole lot faster.
- 8:48It's insane.
- 8:49Like I can lay down and it's not
- 8:51tossed term.
- 8:51As soon as I get comfortable, I'm out.
- 8:55I was actually telling somebody this
- 8:56morning in the six a.m.
- 8:59as I was coaching about it.
- 9:01And she ended up ordering some herself
- 9:04because her sleep has been garbage and she
- 9:06wants to do it as she can.
- 9:07And she doesn't like melatonin.
- 9:10And this has no melatonin.
- 9:11She used Jazzy and you told her that
- 9:14and she did.
- 9:17Yeah, she did.
- 9:18Yeah, she did.
- 9:20Get you to our portal to order and
- 9:22get fifteen percent off your order.
- 9:27That's awesome.
- 9:30How do you know if the CrossFit
- 9:33jim i'm assuming affiliate is in good
- 9:34standing or not geez uh that was that
- 9:37didn't change from last year jody um just
- 9:41like you need to make sure your judge
- 9:42isn't good standing we saw what happened
- 9:45when you didn't check that and the judge
- 9:47says oh yeah i've got my certificate and
- 9:50then they're not in good standing and a
- 9:52lot of people almost missed out on the
- 9:54games
- 9:55So as an athlete,
- 9:57I would say it's up to you to
- 9:59make sure they are out on the affiliate
- 10:02homepage at CrossFit.com and that your
- 10:05judge,
- 10:06I would ask to see that their L-I
- 10:09is in good standing and their certificates
- 10:11from the judge's course.
- 10:13If you think you are going to be
- 10:15a semifinals athlete,
- 10:18take the extra steps.
- 10:20Ask questions.
- 10:21Do not just assume.
- 10:25that everything's going to be okay.
- 10:27It's a terrible idea.
- 10:31You don't want to mess around and do
- 10:34really,
- 10:34really well and then have all your shit
- 10:37invalidated because you didn't just ask
- 10:39the questions.
- 10:41Hey, man.
- 10:42I would just ask the question.
- 10:43I would want to see paper proof or
- 10:47physical proof on their phone or
- 10:49something.
- 10:50Something.
- 10:53Thank you, Joseph,
- 10:53for Mira and five dollars for Corey's mic.
- 10:56We truly appreciate that.
- 10:58A hundred percent.
- 11:04Mark Phillips, for twenty twenty six,
- 11:06thirty five to fifty four is top four
- 11:08hundred was two percent,
- 11:10two hundred minimum in twenty twenty five.
- 11:13Yeah,
- 11:13but that number because of two percent was
- 11:16closer to that four hundred than it was
- 11:18to two hundred.
- 11:19Yeah,
- 11:20I do think that it's going to be
- 11:22fairly similar.
- 11:23The older age groups ended up closer to
- 11:26two hundred just because of participation
- 11:27levels.
- 11:28But like my age group,
- 11:30we had a ton of people.
- 11:33they qualify for semis.
- 11:34Uh, Ken Walters, uh, Scott,
- 11:38I just got done watching Savan's show from
- 11:40yesterday morning and have a couple of
- 11:42questions.
- 11:43Are you stalking me?
- 11:43How do you know I pose in the
- 11:45mirror when I do Cindy and you think
- 11:51I don't stalk you, Ken,
- 11:52but I've met you.
- 11:54Uh, you have the guns of Hulk Hogan.
- 11:56If I had those,
- 11:58I'd be posing in the mirror too.
- 12:00I'm just,
- 12:00I just know the mindset of someone that
- 12:02is that ripped and buff context clues,
- 12:05Ken.
- 12:11Um,
- 12:18And Lito answered the same question I did
- 12:20because she's super smart.
- 12:24Also,
- 12:25don't use a mat for your handstand
- 12:26pushups.
- 12:27Yeah, I heard that somewhere last year.
- 12:29Make sure not even the thin garden mat.
- 12:32So, fun fact.
- 12:36One of my very, very,
- 12:37very good friends bought a couple of the
- 12:40big handstand pads.
- 12:43That's like...
- 12:44the proper size or whatever,
- 12:45like it's the,
- 12:46whatever the size is on one of them.
- 12:48And he bought one for me.
- 12:49I just haven't gotten from him yet because
- 12:51he lives in Lafayette and I did not.
- 12:54Yeah.
- 12:56So if I have to do pushups next
- 12:58year for a qualifier,
- 13:00I'll have the proper equipment ready to
- 13:03rock.
- 13:05No, there's Rob, Rob right there.
- 13:11And what we'd say to Corey is, uh,
- 13:20I'm so glad we're able to use all
- 13:21of them.
- 13:25I load things up, man.
- 13:26I got to use them somehow.
- 13:27Yeah, absolutely.
- 13:28Absolutely.
- 13:29Work it in.
- 13:31The size of the rectangle you are limited
- 13:33to.
- 13:34Yeah.
- 13:36Yeah.
- 13:36When I was at Polaris,
- 13:37like Christy had like an old wrestling mat
- 13:40that like you would see in a high
- 13:42school and she would cut it.
- 13:45and they would lay it and tape it
- 13:47down probably like twenty feet wide on the
- 13:51wall and then people could just go do
- 13:53their handstand push-ups on that wall like
- 13:56and line them up like six people across
- 13:59and then your hands and your head are
- 14:01on the mat beautiful thing um
- 14:09Lito,
- 14:10about two hundred something ended up
- 14:11signing up,
- 14:12but two percent from the open was quite
- 14:14a large number,
- 14:15although I don't remember exactly how
- 14:16many.
- 14:17Yeah,
- 14:17because you have people that qualify that
- 14:18do not sign up.
- 14:20Yeah.
- 14:21So just because it says four hundred
- 14:23doesn't mean all four hundred will sign up
- 14:25for the semis.
- 14:27It was a lot.
- 14:28I know for my age group,
- 14:29it was it was it was like some
- 14:32ridiculous number.
- 14:32It was well over it was approaching four
- 14:36hundred, if I remember right.
- 14:37Like it was a lot.
- 14:39Not all those people signed up, obviously,
- 14:40but that's how many there were.
- 14:44I know I'm not sponsored by Paper Street,
- 14:45but got this in the mail yesterday.
- 14:50It is delicious.
- 14:53I subscribe to them.
- 14:54I drink their coffee every single morning.
- 14:57And if you want to fly through the
- 15:01rest of your day,
- 15:02this is as good as an energy drink.
- 15:06This is freaking fantastic.
- 15:08Somebody was saying earlier,
- 15:10I forget where it was,
- 15:11but was saying the same thing about the
- 15:13frost.
- 15:13It was like they had forgotten how strong
- 15:16it was.
- 15:17And by strong,
- 15:17not that it had a strong flavor,
- 15:19but just like had you buzzing from all
- 15:22the caffeine.
- 15:24Yeah, it is.
- 15:26Man,
- 15:28I do the Soma at the lunch show
- 15:30now,
- 15:30and I guess I got to do the
- 15:31third Z to come down and get some
- 15:33sleep at night.
- 15:35trying just chemically motivated all day
- 15:37long one way or another no big deal
- 15:39yeah upper downer upper downer all day
- 15:42long uh does it taste like coffee i
- 15:46don't like coffee well of course it is
- 15:49coffee it just has some oat milk in
- 15:51it um and it's more of like a
- 15:53latte type coffee than a like a black
- 15:55coffee um
- 16:01new mayhem podcast worth watching or
- 16:02clickbait.
- 16:04I'm about a half an hour in and
- 16:06I'm saying clickbait so far.
- 16:13Uh, so yeah.
- 16:16Uh, Jay Birch, good dudes for me.
- 16:18I used to be a good dudes guy
- 16:19until I found paper street.
- 16:21And I'll be honest with you.
- 16:23If, if the coffee's similar,
- 16:25I'm going to go with Gabe, uh,
- 16:27Gabe is one of the nicest guys in
- 16:31this ecosystem of CrossFit,
- 16:34and I would support him a hundred times
- 16:37over.
- 16:38So anything close to Paper Street,
- 16:40and I love Paper Street,
- 16:42so I'm not dogging it at all.
- 16:45Anything close,
- 16:46I'm going to go lean towards Gabe.
- 16:51Oh, Mark went and looked it up.
- 16:55you guys even care about this line anymore
- 16:57i just looked up at forty five to
- 16:59forty nine men and it was two sixty
- 17:00five qualified he's one fifty seven
- 17:03participate participated i'll let it die i
- 17:07thought it was more than that yeah i
- 17:10think thirty five to thirty nine was
- 17:11pretty close to four hundred um yeah
- 17:19Alito, it's a hundred bucks to sign up.
- 17:21So my guess is for an online comp,
- 17:23unless you're fairly serious about it,
- 17:25you won't sign up.
- 17:27She was asking about like the French
- 17:29throwdown and like how it's after the
- 17:32online semis and the leaderboard won't be
- 17:33finalized.
- 17:34And if you happen to win the French
- 17:36throwdown and you also qualify through
- 17:38semis,
- 17:38which one are they taking and which one
- 17:40are they backfilling from?
- 17:41Stuff like that.
- 17:43Leo,
- 17:43I would say that's probably a good
- 17:44question to ask chasing them on the
- 17:47CrossFit podcast that is fixing to happen
- 17:50in like half an hour.
- 17:50I just got a notification for it.
- 17:54I'll read that tonight for sure.
- 17:56I'll have an answer tomorrow, but yeah,
- 17:58I'm sure they're going over the rule book.
- 18:01Right.
- 18:01But they get way more viewers than I
- 18:04get.
- 18:04So to get your question through may not
- 18:06happen as easily as it does here.
- 18:09So I will read through it and I'll
- 18:13figure it all out for tomorrow.
- 18:14Love it.
- 18:16I'll be on a jet plane tomorrow.
- 18:31Plus the two judge requirement.
- 18:33Yeah, well,
- 18:33that is definitely still happening.
- 18:37It was so weird, dude.
- 18:43Ken,
- 18:44I support all the small CrossFit
- 18:45businesses,
- 18:46but I've never been able to from Gabe
- 18:48was hoping he diversified so I could.
- 18:50There's no need for him to diversify
- 18:53because his business is killing it.
- 18:54He does say he does sell tea.
- 18:57He does have tea.
- 18:59The only thing I'm really bummed about
- 19:00with Gabe is he used to sell these
- 19:02coffee sacks.
- 19:04Do they have those anymore?
- 19:06Or like a teabag,
- 19:07and they've been sold out for a while.
- 19:09That's what I have used whenever I go
- 19:13to Pennsylvania to see my parents, my mom,
- 19:15or travel to my daughters or anything,
- 19:19because it's easier than trying to buy
- 19:20coffee and carry it in my suitcase.
- 19:24Because I know they transport drugs inside
- 19:28of coffee to get rid of the smell
- 19:30from the dogs.
- 19:31That's why I'm not putting beans in my
- 19:33carry-on.
- 19:34Right, exactly.
- 19:36I'm always afraid I'm going to go to
- 19:37the secondary search if I have coffee
- 19:40anywhere around me.
- 19:41I have.
- 19:42I literally just got it in yesterday,
- 19:45and they come in that blister pack,
- 19:49bubble wrap stuff, whatnot,
- 19:50and I could smell it through the bag.
- 19:53So if I can smell that through that
- 19:55bag in the sealed bag that he sends
- 19:57it in,
- 19:58I am not putting that in my carry-on
- 20:01or in my check bag, for that matter,
- 20:03just so I can get pulled out of
- 20:04line and let's go have a conversation
- 20:06about these coffee beans that are
- 20:07unopened, by the way,
- 20:08because I'm not rolling with them open.
- 20:10I just want to end up with coffee
- 20:11beans all over the inside of my luggage.
- 20:14So, yeah,
- 20:15I'll just deal with whatever coffee we
- 20:17find when we're shopping tomorrow in
- 20:20Tempe.
- 20:20Yeah.
- 20:23Have you ever gone through the airport
- 20:25where they actually,
- 20:26instead of going through the scanner,
- 20:28they have drug sniffing dogs and bomb
- 20:31sniffing dogs?
- 20:32In New Orleans, sometimes it's both.
- 20:34They'll have a section like when you
- 20:37queueing up to go through security and
- 20:39they have like a big open section where
- 20:41they stop people.
- 20:42And then you got to go walk like
- 20:43one at a time through it.
- 20:44And they got the dogs just walking around
- 20:46in there.
- 20:46Yeah.
- 20:47And then you'll go through security.
- 20:49New Orleans is a huge port, though.
- 20:51If you go through the dogs,
- 20:53you don't have to go through the scanner.
- 20:56Yeah, no.
- 20:57New Orleans is not that advanced.
- 21:00It's also a giant...
- 21:01It's one of the biggest ports on the
- 21:02face of the planet,
- 21:03so there's a lot of shit that goes
- 21:05through that place.
- 21:06So I kind of understand.
- 21:09I'm not usually that intimidated,
- 21:11but all these officers with their
- 21:14bomb-sniffing, drug-sniffing dogs,
- 21:16that was pretty intimidating.
- 21:18Yeah.
- 21:19Cause it's a long,
- 21:20like you're going through like six to
- 21:21eight of them.
- 21:22Right.
- 21:24It was, it was pretty intense.
- 21:27It's more than you want it.
- 21:28It's more than you want it.
- 21:29That's what damn sure.
- 21:31It sure is.
- 21:32Um, if you, you're heading to legends, uh,
- 21:42And I know I'm critical of Bob and
- 21:43Joe on this show a lot,
- 21:45but my criticism really is about when they
- 21:48run the games.
- 21:49Right.
- 21:50It's not when they run Legends.
- 21:52Legends, the event in Tempe or wherever...
- 21:57at Arizona state is one of the best
- 22:00events I've ever been to.
- 22:01I love that venue.
- 22:03I love the competition.
- 22:05It's their world during that weekend and
- 22:08they can make it however they want.
- 22:10It's their competition.
- 22:11The only time I get,
- 22:13I have beef with them is that when
- 22:15it comes to games time and the definition
- 22:17of what we're trying to do changes,
- 22:20we are trying to find the fittest on
- 22:21earth.
- 22:23And so I,
- 22:24i'm excited for legends i wish they could
- 22:27stream it at times but they just don't
- 22:31no we're not streaming this year either
- 22:33well they haven't for years yeah and i
- 22:36wish they would
- 22:38their ego will never let them because,
- 22:40you know,
- 22:40they've picked fights with every
- 22:44podcasting group in under the sun.
- 22:47Um,
- 22:48but I wish that you would even do
- 22:50like the Brian friend,
- 22:52iPhone version or something like that at a
- 22:57cheaper rate, but they just, they won't.
- 22:59And it's, it really, really, uh,
- 23:02really sucks.
- 23:02Yeah.
- 23:03I absolutely,
- 23:08One of my best friends in the entire
- 23:09world,
- 23:11I sent him the schedule and all workouts
- 23:13and whatnot.
- 23:14He scheduled once we got it.
- 23:16And the first thing he says,
- 23:19it's going to be anywhere on the interweb
- 23:20for me to see.
- 23:21And I was like, no, sorry.
- 23:24Wayne figured it out in New Orleans.
- 23:27They have to catch those beignet
- 23:28smugglers.
- 23:31beignets are damn good i'm not a donut
- 23:33guy but there's something about sitting at
- 23:36the cafe du mal um right beside the
- 23:39mississippi river and eating a beignet and
- 23:42drinking some hickory coffee good stuff
- 23:44brother or chicory chicory right it's
- 23:47chicory yeah i know what you meant it's
- 23:49fine uh yeah shanna they one hundred
- 23:54percent have released the workouts we got
- 23:57all of them the other night how do
- 23:59you feel about them
- 24:01They're all CrossFit.
- 24:02I'm pretty excited.
- 24:04And when I say they're all CrossFit,
- 24:05like last year we had a thirty pound
- 24:06wall ball for our age group,
- 24:08which is not a huge deal,
- 24:09but it's not something that we necessarily
- 24:10train with on a regular basis.
- 24:13We had drag ropes last year.
- 24:15Again, not a huge deal,
- 24:17but not something we normally train with.
- 24:22Stuff like that.
- 24:22The sandbags, I'm always down with.
- 24:24I like heavy sandbags.
- 24:29And they do tend to program a little
- 24:31bit heavier, right?
- 24:33We were supposed to have ring muscle-ups
- 24:34last year,
- 24:35didn't have ring muscle-ups last year
- 24:36because of some sort of equipment,
- 24:38something or another.
- 24:39It happened like last minute, which is,
- 24:41again, not a big deal.
- 24:43This year,
- 24:43we only get them if you make it
- 24:45to the final,
- 24:46to the last heat on the last day.
- 24:55Last year, man?
- 24:57It could have been just one lane, maybe.
- 25:00Yeah, maybe on her lane.
- 25:01I didn't.
- 25:03I don't even remember,
- 25:04to be honest with you.
- 25:06That is.
- 25:09The side of the rig that I was
- 25:12on, we did not.
- 25:13Mr. Jordan Webb, I will see you tomorrow.
- 25:16Is it the last year of Legends in
- 25:18December?
- 25:20So one of the things they were talking
- 25:22about,
- 25:23they asked on the Zoom call the other
- 25:24day,
- 25:25Asked Joe if we're still going to be
- 25:28doing this in December come next year.
- 25:30And he said he was not sure.
- 25:33Which means probably not going to happen
- 25:36again.
- 25:36I believe what he did,
- 25:37his full statement was that he was going
- 25:39to have to talk to the boss,
- 25:41which is his wife.
- 25:42And you and I know as married people
- 25:44that that means I want to say no,
- 25:46but I'm going to put it on my
- 25:47wife to.
- 25:49The easiest thing in the whole world.
- 25:52I told Jennifer a long time ago,
- 25:54if she doesn't want to do something,
- 25:55you have full authority to tell somebody
- 25:59that the reason we're not going is because
- 26:01I said I didn't want to go.
- 26:04I will add it.
- 26:05Especially if you know it's something I
- 26:06don't want to do, by all means,
- 26:08tell them I'm not going to do that.
- 26:12Amanda says, yes, it was awful.
- 26:14Amanda,
- 26:15what side of the rig were you on?
- 26:16I was all the way to the left.
- 26:18like closer to the warmup area and stuff
- 26:20like that, uh, doing ball balls.
- 26:22So I like that.
- 26:23It didn't, it didn't affect me at all,
- 26:27really and truly.
- 26:28So while we're talking about wives, can I,
- 26:31can I,
- 26:32can I get your ear about something that
- 26:34a pet peeve,
- 26:37my wife does not listen to the show.
- 26:39Right.
- 26:40Right.
- 26:41Um,
- 26:43you know how I love my Chinese ketchup.
- 26:45Absolutely.
- 26:46Right.
- 26:47I'm really the only one that uses it
- 26:49in the house.
- 26:50But last night,
- 26:52my wife used it on a dinner we
- 26:54had.
- 26:57What's the first thing you do when you
- 26:59grab your Chinese ketchup?
- 27:01Shake it.
- 27:02Exactly.
- 27:04Well,
- 27:04make sure the lid's closed first and then
- 27:06shake it.
- 27:08When I'm the only one using it,
- 27:10I always close it when I'm done.
- 27:11Right.
- 27:13So I don't want the liquid to come
- 27:15out.
- 27:15I want it to be more of a
- 27:16ketchupy.
- 27:17Yeah.
- 27:17I don't want,
- 27:19I don't want to catch up this morning
- 27:20to go over my broccoli, slaw and eggs.
- 27:23And I shake it and it starts shooting.
- 27:29Cause my wife ain't closing the lid.
- 27:34She doesn't lid on anything.
- 27:37Like I'll go to grab like a pickle
- 27:40and I'll grab it from the top.
- 27:42And all of a sudden I've got the
- 27:44lid in my hand and hopefully the pickle
- 27:46jar hasn't fallen.
- 27:48Fallen in.
- 27:48Yeah.
- 27:49You know,
- 27:49you got pickles and broken glass all over
- 27:51the place.
- 27:53Like ibuprofen, like middle of the night,
- 27:56you just need a little bit of ibuprofen.
- 27:57I'll go to grab it.
- 27:59I've got to do five hundred pill pickup
- 28:01because the damn lid ain't on.
- 28:07She never, ever puts the lid on anything.
- 28:11I can honestly say I'm so glad I
- 28:13don't have that problem because Jennifer
- 28:14makes sure, like,
- 28:15because she doesn't want to have to clean
- 28:16it up any more than I do.
- 28:17And it's happened where I'm going.
- 28:19It's usually on me.
- 28:21I've done, like,
- 28:23I get to doing three different things at
- 28:24once.
- 28:24Same thing, pickle jars I'm famous for.
- 28:28Open the lid.
- 28:29I might get one or two out, whatever,
- 28:30and I don't close it quite all the
- 28:32way.
- 28:33And I'll go back to get it later.
- 28:35And the same thing,
- 28:35I'll grab it by the top,
- 28:37like everybody does,
- 28:38and it'll start coming.
- 28:40And it's closed just enough to where when
- 28:42I get,
- 28:43gravity takes over once it gets off the
- 28:45shelf.
- 28:45And now we got pickles all over the
- 28:48kitchen.
- 28:49Mark Phillips, yeah, this is her too.
- 28:52I'm the drawer closer as well.
- 28:54Every cabinet, every drawer never gets,
- 28:57never,
- 28:58never makes it closed in my kitchen.
- 29:01Every closet door is like left cracked.
- 29:05Like, I swear,
- 29:06all day I'm closing our closet door.
- 29:08Every time I pass to go to the
- 29:10bathroom, I'm like, it's open again.
- 29:12Close.
- 29:13Close.
- 29:15I turn off lights.
- 29:18I will go through the house and turn
- 29:19off every light in the house because why
- 29:21are all these lights on?
- 29:22There's no need.
- 29:23Like, it's so bright in here.
- 29:24There's no need for all these lights on.
- 29:26I don't need all this light.
- 29:28And started leaving things open so that I
- 29:30would actually spill them.
- 29:32Words would be bad, would be had.
- 29:35We've had the words, but I'm,
- 29:37I've been almost,
- 29:38we've been together well over thirty
- 29:40years.
- 29:40Right.
- 29:41We're coming up on our thirtieth wedding
- 29:42anniversary.
- 29:44And it's like they say with football
- 29:46coaches, like after so long,
- 29:48the team just doesn't even listen anymore.
- 29:51And so no matter what words I have,
- 29:53she is going to tune me out and
- 29:56go to her own drum.
- 30:01Oh.
- 30:03Where's this one right here?
- 30:05Hold up.
- 30:06Yes.
- 30:06My husband tightens his shaker cups like
- 30:08someone's trying to steal his purse.
- 30:09Now I have to admit, that is me.
- 30:12All day.
- 30:14All day, everything.
- 30:15And this.
- 30:16Every time I grab it,
- 30:17I'll close it and I shake it.
- 30:19No matter if I've shaken it forty eight
- 30:21times before that and it drives Jennifer
- 30:24nuts.
- 30:24It's like it's like why the hell do
- 30:29you have to put this lid on so
- 30:31tight?
- 30:31Yeah.
- 30:32This just leaves my blender bottles in the
- 30:34sink until I come and loosen them.
- 30:39Same.
- 30:40She doesn't mess with my shit anymore
- 30:41because for that reason,
- 30:42because when I close it,
- 30:43it's closed in a
- 30:45You know why?
- 30:46Because if you've never had one spill or
- 30:51if you're never going to shake one that
- 30:54it's not quite tight enough and now you've
- 30:55got stuff running all down the side and
- 30:57now it's sticky or the lid's not quite
- 31:00closed and you go to shake it and
- 31:01protein goes everywhere.
- 31:03Next thing you know, Jed's a millionaire.
- 31:07That's not good, dude.
- 31:08That's not good.
- 31:10Well,
- 31:11and I think the one drawback to a
- 31:13blender bottle is the rubber seals are not
- 31:16the best.
- 31:17No.
- 31:17Like they need to improve.
- 31:18So that's why you've got to really tighten
- 31:19them down or you'll get a leak or
- 31:22a spray when you go to shake.
- 31:23A hundred percent.
- 31:25It's not, it's not,
- 31:26it's not a good thing.
- 31:27It's not a good thing.
- 31:28And God forbid you don't close it right
- 31:30then or clean it up.
- 31:31Excuse me.
- 31:32Right then, because it is going to stink.
- 31:35Stink.
- 31:35And it don't take long.
- 31:37Yeah.
- 31:38Ken, yep,
- 31:40my wife never shuts drawers or doors all
- 31:41the way.
- 31:42She never uses the bread ties,
- 31:44just rolls it shut.
- 31:45Are we all?
- 31:47Fires me up, man.
- 31:48Are we all married to the same woman?
- 31:50Is that what's happening right here?
- 31:52Now, Jody, her sales pitch is,
- 31:55all the kitchens I sell have soft-close
- 31:58drawers and doors.
- 32:00Okay, we have those.
- 32:03But you actually have to close them first.
- 32:06Like,
- 32:06you got to send it on its way.
- 32:08And then the soft close part,
- 32:12the soft close part will take over at
- 32:15some point.
- 32:16But if you don't start the process,
- 32:20it's never going to happen.
- 32:22I'm going to use that line almost.
- 32:24At some point,
- 32:25you got to send it on its way.
- 32:26You got to get it going.
- 32:30Just telling you right now,
- 32:32there's an ongoing fight in my house.
- 32:34So I don't know how your bathroom is
- 32:35set up,
- 32:36but we got a door in the middle.
- 32:38where there's two doors and one of them
- 32:39goes in the closet,
- 32:40there's a door in the middle and there's
- 32:42my sink with my mirror and her sink
- 32:45with her mirror.
- 32:46And they are separated by a gulf.
- 32:50Okay.
- 32:50There's a doorway in between,
- 32:53but for some reason,
- 32:56almost every day I'm taking a flat iron
- 33:00off of my mostly clean countertop.
- 33:05And it,
- 33:06It bothers me.
- 33:06It shouldn't bother me.
- 33:07It really, it's not that big a deal,
- 33:09but like she does her hair on my
- 33:11side.
- 33:13My, my toilet seat goes down every day,
- 33:16every day, every day.
- 33:17I don't, I don't, I don't play it.
- 33:18I don't play that game.
- 33:20Yeah.
- 33:20I don't play that game.
- 33:21That is not, you can,
- 33:22you can get me on the blender bottle
- 33:24type thing.
- 33:25You can't get me on that one.
- 33:26A hundred percent.
- 33:28So what I've done is that
- 33:31Now, whenever it's left there,
- 33:33I don't just put it back on her
- 33:34side of the sink because I don't know
- 33:35where it goes.
- 33:36And if I put it somewhere,
- 33:38I just throw it in the cabinet and
- 33:39she's going to get mad at me.
- 33:40Why don't you just put it in there?
- 33:41So I'll go put it somewhere completely
- 33:43different.
- 33:44Like I put it on top of the
- 33:45dryer because if it doesn't belong on top
- 33:47of my countertop,
- 33:49it damn sure don't belong on top of
- 33:50the dryer.
- 33:51So let's just go put it over there.
- 33:53Washing machine,
- 33:54I put it in the kitchen cabinet a
- 33:55couple of different times because I don't
- 33:57want it on my side of the bathroom.
- 34:01I got my toothbrush.
- 34:02I got my toothpaste.
- 34:04I got my contact or my glasses case
- 34:06and my contact little thing that you put
- 34:09them in.
- 34:10And I got a black plastic skull she
- 34:13got me that pumps soap.
- 34:15That's all that's sitting on top of my
- 34:17countertop and a picture of my parents.
- 34:21I don't need I don't need forty seven
- 34:22bottles and all this other stuff.
- 34:25Ken,
- 34:26I love how all husbands are saints and
- 34:28do nothing to irritate the wives.
- 34:30I know I do stuff to irritate my
- 34:32wife.
- 34:33I know for a fact I do.
- 34:34Sometimes on purpose.
- 34:38But generally mine is like a one-off.
- 34:41Like I don't do something in that moment
- 34:45and it's a once a week deal.
- 34:47Like these drawers, cabinets,
- 34:49I am shutting them twenty times a day.
- 34:52Yeah.
- 34:53I'm turning off every light in the house.
- 34:55I'm telling you, we go to leave,
- 34:58like to leave the house where nobody's
- 35:00going to be home,
- 35:01my daughter's light's on,
- 35:02my son's light's on,
- 35:03their bathroom light is on,
- 35:05our bathroom light is on,
- 35:06and there's three different lights in our
- 35:08bathroom to turn on, like switch, switch,
- 35:11switch, switch, switch, switch,
- 35:13the closet light, the laundry room light,
- 35:18like just pick a switch.
- 35:20I would do better
- 35:21If I just had one master that turned
- 35:23off all the lights in the house and
- 35:25just put that somewhere because that would
- 35:27be easy to do.
- 35:29Just hit that while I'm going out to
- 35:32the garage and we just call it good.
- 35:34Mm-mm.
- 35:38I don't think you watch Landman,
- 35:40but in this vein, on the last episode,
- 35:46there was a scene where Tommy,
- 35:49which is played by Billy Bob Thornton,
- 35:51is lighting up a cigarette after his wife
- 35:53has irritated him to a point.
- 35:56And she looks and goes,
- 35:57did I drive you to start smoking and
- 36:00light up that cigarette?
- 36:01He said, no,
- 36:03you've driven me to suck the Freon out
- 36:05of an AC unit.
- 36:07This is all I got.
- 36:07I love it.
- 36:14Oh, I love it.
- 36:16Yeah.
- 36:16No, no, this is,
- 36:18this is light work right here.
- 36:20I'm actually looking for the Freon out of
- 36:21an AC unit and be honest with you.
- 36:24Yeah, it was the best, funniest,
- 36:27best line I've heard on television in a
- 36:30very long time.
- 36:31I can hear Billy Bob Thornton saying it
- 36:33too,
- 36:33like in that Southern drawl with the...
- 36:36That's fantastic.
- 36:40No,
- 36:40you've driven me to suck the Freon out
- 36:42of an AC unit,
- 36:43but this is all I got.
- 36:51One thing I wanted to ask you about,
- 36:53and it's something that I've thought about
- 36:54in a long time, back to CrossFit,
- 36:56is Hiller put out his, like,
- 36:59fifteen hot takes or something today.
- 37:01Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 37:01I didn't get to watch it yet.
- 37:04Well, in one of the hot takes...
- 37:06he gets into talking about one.
- 37:10The funniest thing he said was that it
- 37:13doesn't matter what programming some of
- 37:14these elite athletes would have done.
- 37:16They still would have won the games like
- 37:18Rich or whatever.
- 37:19And he said,
- 37:19it doesn't matter if they did Proven or
- 37:23HWPO or Comp Train.
- 37:25And he goes, well,
- 37:27nobody would have won with Comp Train,
- 37:31which was funny.
- 37:31But then he talks about that.
- 37:35James Townsend is the best coach that gets
- 37:39no credit.
- 37:39A thousand percent.
- 37:42That if Mal would have stayed with him,
- 37:45he thinks there would have been a
- 37:47different outcome, right?
- 37:48And that he doesn't get the credit for
- 37:50getting her to where she was.
- 37:52And everybody forgets that with James
- 37:53Townsend,
- 37:54Mal finished top ten as a rookie at
- 37:57seventeen years old at the CrossFit Games.
- 38:00She then went to HWPO and finished top
- 38:02three.
- 38:03And she looked like she was having a
- 38:05good time and enjoying herself.
- 38:10Yeah.
- 38:11She seemed light, if that makes sense.
- 38:17I love James Townsend.
- 38:20Why does he get no credit?
- 38:22The reason I'm saying no credit is he
- 38:24doesn't really have any elite athletes
- 38:25signing up to have him coach them.
- 38:30He coached Mal.
- 38:32She left for HWPO.
- 38:33He coached Tudor.
- 38:35He left because they got into a fight
- 38:38at the games.
- 38:40I think if both of them stay with
- 38:43James,
- 38:44they are in a better position today than
- 38:46they were when they
- 38:49After they left.
- 38:50And maybe because Iowa was Mal's home,
- 38:54maybe Mal is in a better mental and
- 38:57better headspace.
- 38:58And James told me flat out, he tried,
- 39:01he told Mal to go home.
- 39:02Like he wouldn't let her stay at the
- 39:04gym.
- 39:05Yeah.
- 39:06And she didn't like that.
- 39:07She didn't like being told to rest,
- 39:10go home, do other things.
- 39:13And when she went to HWPO,
- 39:15she was allowed to do that then.
- 39:18And ran herself into the ground.
- 39:23I mean, God bless her,
- 39:24but that's what she ended up doing.
- 39:25James Townsend is one of my favorite
- 39:27people on the planet that I have not
- 39:29actually physically met.
- 39:31He is raising strong, badass children.
- 39:36Right.
- 39:36He is.
- 39:37He's doing the Lord's work.
- 39:38And for all intents and purposes,
- 39:40I had a conversation with him yesterday.
- 39:41As a matter of fact, on Instagram,
- 39:42where we just kind of, hey, bro,
- 39:45you're killing it.
- 39:46I'm proud of you.
- 39:47I'm proud to say that you are part
- 39:49of our CrossFit community.
- 39:51If those two stay with James,
- 39:54I think not only does he make them
- 39:57into world beaters at that point,
- 39:59I think he helps to shape them into,
- 40:02and not to say that Elon's a bad
- 40:04person, but into way better adults.
- 40:08Part of the argument of Hiller was that
- 40:11Rich admits that he's not a good coach.
- 40:14When he did it,
- 40:15he just kind of made it up on
- 40:16the fly.
- 40:18And so how do you then coach somebody
- 40:19who doesn't have the talent that you have?
- 40:22Right.
- 40:23Where James didn't have all,
- 40:25he was strong as hell,
- 40:26but he didn't have the talent beyond that
- 40:29to be a games competitor.
- 40:31And he was,
- 40:32and he worked through it and tried to
- 40:33get better at things.
- 40:34Right.
- 40:35So because he did that,
- 40:36he has more experience in developing that
- 40:40person who needs developed up through the
- 40:43ranks.
- 40:44Um,
- 40:46And I just thought it was a great
- 40:47take.
- 40:47Because I've thought that for a very long
- 40:49time.
- 40:50That James should get more credit for
- 40:53getting those athletes to where they were.
- 40:59And then this little small town in Iowa
- 41:02just pumping out talent.
- 41:05In the middle of nowhere, Iowa.
- 41:06Yeah, a hundred percent.
- 41:07A hundred percent.
- 41:09James is the man.
- 41:10Absolutely.
- 41:12And does not get no credit.
- 41:14Because...
- 41:16Mal was a thing.
- 41:17And then within a year,
- 41:21she's up there in Vermont with Matt.
- 41:24And that's all, you know,
- 41:25people focused on was that, Oh, WP, HWPO.
- 41:29And then Matt saying stuff like,
- 41:30I'm not building a, I'm building a weapon.
- 41:36I bet he was influenced by many of
- 41:38his football coaches and approaches it
- 41:39with a different mindset.
- 41:42I also think that he was so good
- 41:44at football that,
- 41:46So good at football that it came naturally
- 41:47to him.
- 41:48And then when he tried this other sport
- 41:51and got humbled,
- 41:52like he also knows the mindset of going
- 41:55from super elite athlete to just another
- 41:59guy.
- 42:01And not wanting to be just another guy
- 42:04wanting to be the same level.
- 42:07Like I know I can do this.
- 42:10I know I I've done it at on
- 42:11this thing.
- 42:12Why can't I do it here?
- 42:14And then putting all your focus and effort
- 42:15into that and, okay,
- 42:16what do I need to do to make
- 42:18myself good enough?
- 42:20And then having these processes in place
- 42:22and whatnot,
- 42:23which is going to make you a better
- 42:24coach, right?
- 42:26Like you said, Rich will tell you,
- 42:27and he's the first one to tell you,
- 42:28like,
- 42:29we just made it up as I went
- 42:30along.
- 42:30Like, he still does that.
- 42:31They'll go out to the barn and just
- 42:32start writing stuff on the board.
- 42:35What do we want to do?
- 42:35Oh, well, I don't know.
- 42:37I kind of soared from this yesterday.
- 42:39Okay, well, let's do this, blah, blah,
- 42:40blah.
- 42:41He had a brilliant mind for doing that.
- 42:44And it worked for him and to a
- 42:46degree for his teams, I'm sure.
- 42:48They didn't really have coaches at that
- 42:49point.
- 42:53Before I have to go back to work,
- 42:55I did want to share one thing that
- 42:56I found today about Peloton.
- 43:00Oh.
- 43:00And you're thinking, Peloton?
- 43:02Yeah.
- 43:03Yeah, you got me out of left field.
- 43:04We didn't even discuss that.
- 43:06That might be a thing.
- 43:07When I read this,
- 43:09I was amazed at how the similarities
- 43:11between kind of what we talked about
- 43:12yesterday with like PR pushes behind
- 43:17athletes and different things like that.
- 43:20I'm going to read this through to you.
- 43:22It's like the Lego story we went through
- 43:23a little bit ago.
- 43:24It's screen by screen.
- 43:24Yeah.
- 43:25Remember Peloton?
- 43:26In twenty twenty three,
- 43:27Peloton's twenty five hundred dollar bikes
- 43:30sold for five hundred dollars on Facebook
- 43:32marketplace.
- 43:33They were losing one hundred and eighty
- 43:34seven million dollars per quarter.
- 43:37And Peloton CEO discovered one shocking
- 43:40truth about twenty first century humans.
- 43:43Here's the mind blowing insight that saved
- 43:45Peloton.
- 43:48So I'm going to skip over it because
- 43:50most of this, when COVID first hit,
- 43:53their revenue shot to four billion dollars
- 43:56in twenty twenty one.
- 43:57Wow.
- 44:00But eventually people returned to gyms,
- 44:01creating a crisis at Peloton.
- 44:04Four billion is a lot, people,
- 44:06in case you didn't know.
- 44:07Yeah.
- 44:08And this is where it talks about selling
- 44:10their bikes for five hundred bucks that
- 44:11they paid twenty five hundred for.
- 44:14By late twenty twenty three,
- 44:15Peloton's numbers were brutal.
- 44:17Quarterly revenue was down by half from
- 44:19its peak.
- 44:20Quarterly operating losses hit one hundred
- 44:22and eighty seven million.
- 44:23Subscribers were down six percent year
- 44:26over year.
- 44:27That's when Peloton made the bold move.
- 44:30Peloton's new CEO, Barry McCarthy,
- 44:32completely rethought the company's
- 44:33strategy.
- 44:34Unlike typical fitness CEOs,
- 44:36McCarthy had been CFO at Netflix and
- 44:38Spotify,
- 44:39companies that transformed entertainment
- 44:41through tech innovations,
- 44:43and he spotted something at Peloton that
- 44:45everyone missed.
- 44:46McCarthy realized that Peloton bike was
- 44:49actually just a ticket to join a
- 44:51community.
- 44:53People weren't taking cycling classes.
- 44:56They were riding with their favorite
- 44:58instructors.
- 45:00So we aim to boost instructors visibility
- 45:03on their platform and online,
- 45:06but he faced pushback.
- 45:08Investors worried about instructors
- 45:09leaving and taking their followers with
- 45:11them.
- 45:12And analysts thought that influencers
- 45:13couldn't save a hardware company.
- 45:16McCarthy was swimming against the current,
- 45:18but he trusted the data,
- 45:19not the conventional wisdom.
- 45:21McCarthy instructor-centric strategy was
- 45:24methodical.
- 45:25Encourage instructors to build personal
- 45:26brands on social media,
- 45:28create tribes around each instructor
- 45:30style,
- 45:31redesign the app to highlight
- 45:33personalities.
- 45:34He changed every industry norm.
- 45:37The result, within two quarters,
- 45:39everything rebounded.
- 45:41Revenue jumped twenty percent to seven
- 45:43hundred and forty three million.
- 45:44Operating loss narrowed from one hundred
- 45:46and eighty seven million to forty five.
- 45:48Positive free cash flow reached a new
- 45:50record at one hundred and six million.
- 45:53And it all happened because of one thing.
- 45:56Communities.
- 45:58And they formed around each instructor.
- 46:01One group created a book club centered on
- 46:02their instructor's favorite books,
- 46:04while another created charity fundraisers
- 46:06together.
- 46:08McCarthy transformed Peloton from a
- 46:10product company into a relationship
- 46:13company.
- 46:17Community builds more loyalty than any
- 46:18product feature.
- 46:19When McCarthy repositioned instructors as
- 46:22brands,
- 46:23he created an emotional connection
- 46:25competitors couldn't match.
- 46:28The one lie in this is CrossFit has
- 46:30been doing this for.
- 46:31Twenty years, right?
- 46:36Twenty-five years that they have
- 46:39competitor that can, that can match it.
- 46:41But we're not telling that story and we
- 46:45should be,
- 46:46we're not telling the story that we have
- 46:49this awesome thing where we bring people
- 46:51together and we can do more together than
- 46:55we can do it alone.
- 46:57You want to go fast?
- 46:59Go alone.
- 46:59You want to go far?
- 47:01Go together.
- 47:03That's the piece that I think...
- 47:06Reading this,
- 47:07that's the piece that the marketing right
- 47:10now is missing.
- 47:11We've got all the catchphrases.
- 47:13What the hell do they mean?
- 47:15To someone who isn't in this community,
- 47:17what does it mean?
- 47:20Right?
- 47:21How do we tell the world...
- 47:25that we are a community that lifts each
- 47:28other up.
- 47:30You and I talked about it yesterday,
- 47:32that have cookouts after Murph,
- 47:34that have cookouts after,
- 47:36or bachelor parties for a guy in the
- 47:38gym,
- 47:39or go to the wedding of this person,
- 47:42or this couple's having a baby when they
- 47:44couldn't because they were so out of shape
- 47:47and overweight that they couldn't have a
- 47:48baby and now they are.
- 47:50And the whole...
- 47:52Jim gets around them with a baby shower.
- 47:55That's the piece that today's marketing
- 47:58isn't touching on.
- 48:00Not at all.
- 48:03And here's another company that has
- 48:05embraced that and look at the turnaround
- 48:07that they've made.
- 48:10And they're also in the fitness industry.
- 48:13They're stealing what CrossFit had and
- 48:17making it their own.
- 48:21And we've had it forever.
- 48:24Forever.
- 48:25And we're ignoring that fact in telling
- 48:29the story of what this fitness thing is.
- 48:39There needs to be some sort of...
- 48:40I know we keep repeating this ad nauseum,
- 48:44but the two things.
- 48:46Number one, stop telling me about it.
- 48:48Me being the
- 48:50diehard Kool-Aid drinker.
- 48:52I'm all the way in, both feet wet.
- 48:55Figure out how to tell the people that
- 48:57you actually want to get in the gym,
- 48:59which you're not the people that are
- 49:00already going.
- 49:02Two, what you just said.
- 49:04Like, hey, why should you come in here?
- 49:06Not just because it's crazy hard or
- 49:09because you're going to be better.
- 49:10It's because you're going to be part of
- 49:11something.
- 49:14And on those days that you don't have
- 49:16it, people are going to lift you up.
- 49:18A hundred percent.
- 49:19People are going to give you that energy
- 49:21when you walk in the door to get
- 49:23after it.
- 49:25When you didn't think you had it in
- 49:26you on the drive to the gym.
- 49:29Just show up.
- 49:30It's all you have to do.
- 49:32Just show up.
- 49:34I tell people that all the time.
- 49:36As a matter of fact,
- 49:36I had that conversation with my boy
- 49:39Quentin this morning.
- 49:41I was proud of him because he's been
- 49:43here.
- 49:44A year and a half or so,
- 49:46all towed.
- 49:46He took about six months off and then
- 49:48came back.
- 49:49And he's like, man,
- 49:52I feel better than when I first started.
- 49:54And I said, dude, I said,
- 49:56first of all, you can squat the parallel.
- 49:59I said,
- 49:59you actually have a front rack position
- 50:01now.
- 50:01Like you can actually hold a barbell.
- 50:03You look better.
- 50:04I know you're moving better.
- 50:06I know you're feeling better.
- 50:07Like that much is obvious.
- 50:10I said...
- 50:12But the point of,
- 50:14I guess I just want to get back
- 50:15to the point of it's a community, right?
- 50:18It's the community that brings you in.
- 50:20It's the community that like makes you
- 50:22join a flag football team at forty nine
- 50:24years old.
- 50:26It's a community that makes you go play
- 50:28soccer at forty when you shouldn't be
- 50:31right.
- 50:32The people,
- 50:32the conventional wisdom is you shouldn't
- 50:34be playing at forty.
- 50:38But you want to be with your people
- 50:39even more because they've lifted you up
- 50:42and you've been through something
- 50:43together.
- 50:45So you want to spend more time in
- 50:47that environment that you go do other
- 50:50things even outside the gym that you
- 50:53wouldn't do.
- 50:55That's the cult piece.
- 50:57But they're missing the point in what
- 50:58makes it the cult.
- 50:59Right.
- 51:02I don't even know that they're missing it.
- 51:04I don't think they're portraying it
- 51:06correctly.
- 51:07Does that make sense?
- 51:10And maybe that's the same thing,
- 51:11but the fact that it's just like, oh,
- 51:13cult.
- 51:14Yeah, people have been calling us cult,
- 51:16but it's really culture.
- 51:17You're still not saying what that actually
- 51:19is or showing what that actually is.
- 51:24Right.
- 51:26And I don't want to, like,
- 51:28I think Jen has done a great job
- 51:30in at least getting activity back up.
- 51:32Absolutely.
- 51:33Like, so I don't want to dog them.
- 51:35They're at least trying now.
- 51:37No, not at all.
- 51:38They're just a hair.
- 51:39They're a hair off.
- 51:41Yeah.
- 51:42Like a tweak here, tweak there.
- 51:46It's, uh,
- 51:48it's every coach I've ever had watched me
- 51:50do a snatch and then said,
- 51:52do that again, but better.
- 51:54Yeah.
- 51:55Yeah.
- 51:57Exactly.
- 51:58Do it again, but better.
- 52:00It's like, man, you are right there.
- 52:02You are right there.
- 52:03I just need you to clean up this
- 52:06or just that part of it.
- 52:07Just make it a little bit.
- 52:10It's not even that it needs to be
- 52:11better.
- 52:12Just make it make more sense.
- 52:14Because right now, again,
- 52:17I keep saying it over and over again,
- 52:18but you're preaching to the choir.
- 52:21You don't need to preach to the choir.
- 52:23You need to preach to the people outside.
- 52:27Jay Birch is cheating on us by going
- 52:30over to chase and listening to dig in
- 52:32the rule book.
- 52:34So, okay.
- 52:35Anyway, but that's awesome.
- 52:38I'm glad they're doing that.
- 52:39I'll probably go watch that now as well.
- 52:41I got to go back to work,
- 52:43but the one thing that the community makes
- 52:44you feel like is a superhero.
- 52:47And what does every superhero need?
- 52:54So with that,
- 52:56Everybody have a great day.
- 52:58I got to get back to work.
- 52:59You knuckleheads get back to work as well.
- 53:01We will see everybody tomorrow on lunch
- 53:05with the Clydesdale.
- 53:06Love you all.
