- 0:57Speaker 2: is officially out and it's crazy too. I just was
- 1:01Speaker 2: in the road trip from Phoenix to La bumping the
- 1:04Speaker 2: new album. We got the homie Nab in the building,
- 1:06Speaker 2: So welcome man. Good to see you, buddy. Yeah, we're
- 1:10Speaker 2: just talking about wrestling. H You were there when John
- 1:13Speaker 2: Cena did the heel turn in Toronto?
- 1:16Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:16Speaker 2: What was that like? In person?
- 1:19Speaker 1: It was fire because I could see the angle when
- 1:22Speaker 1: he was hugging Cody Rose and his face changed. I
- 1:24Speaker 1: could see that from where I was sitting. Yeah, his
- 1:27Speaker 1: face was like like if I was facing the other way.
- 1:28Speaker 2: I was like the rock had a spell on him. Yeah.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I got to see like how it looked on TV. Yeah,
- 1:32Speaker 1: it was a crazy experience.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Yea, I had to it was Are you like a
- 1:34Speaker 2: wrestling fan or were you? Just say it was in Toronto.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Growing up way more than now with the you guys.
- 1:39Speaker 1: But my friends who I played video games with, like
- 1:41Speaker 1: the WW. They got me back into.
- 1:44Speaker 2: It's a great game. It wasn't tap like a theme
- 1:46Speaker 2: song for a pay per view. Yeah yeah, I remember
- 1:49Speaker 2: tap back yo, y'all. X O boys just got the
- 1:52Speaker 2: WW sewed up cash Man. Cash got the biggest fan.
- 1:55Speaker 2: He is the biggest fan. I think the Weekend has
- 1:57Speaker 2: had like the theme song for many like six years
- 1:59Speaker 2: straight or something. Crazy. Yeah, it's wild. Yeah, No shout
- 2:04Speaker 2: outs to cash Man. He's and and he looks good too.
- 2:05Speaker 2: He's like he gotta be on keto or something. What's
- 2:07Speaker 2: going on with cash But he looked good.
- 2:08Speaker 1: I'm trying on the same program.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Last time I saw him, I was like, you're not
- 2:10Speaker 2: on a Osempic. He's like, nah, bro, this is all
- 2:12Speaker 2: like I'm working out and I'm eating right. It's true. Nah,
- 2:15Speaker 2: It's it's fire. How you feel, man, you got the
- 2:17Speaker 2: new body of workout. How's it feel feel relieved? You know?
- 2:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like I gave my Day One fans
- 2:21Speaker 1: everything they're asking for.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Yeah, dude, I still think like my favorite project to
- 2:26Speaker 2: yours was your self titled Shit of Course, which is
- 2:29Speaker 2: so fire. It was also like you're most like, you know,
- 2:33Speaker 2: like drugged out album.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Yeah that shit was sick for sure.
- 2:38Speaker 2: But but but like, how long you've been working on
- 2:40Speaker 2: this on this project, It's obviously been some time, like
- 2:43Speaker 2: three years. Yeah, I feel like I feel like when
- 2:45Speaker 2: you take your time like that, it's like.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Even longer though, because some of the songs were older
- 2:50Speaker 1: songs where I just took the lyrics off the beat
- 2:52Speaker 1: and I'm like, put it on a new beat, and
- 2:53Speaker 1: they could have been four or five years old.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Yeah, it's crazy too, because when you work on something
- 2:57Speaker 2: that long, I'm assuming like you could get demn itis
- 3:00Speaker 2: on Ship too every day where you're like, yeah, we
- 3:03Speaker 2: love this song two years ago.
- 3:05Speaker 1: But demo demo itis, mixed itis every time of its
- 3:10Speaker 1: reverb itis, compression itis.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Yeah, like everything, Why my ad lits sound different on
- 3:15Speaker 2: this one than they sounded everything? Yeah, how do you
- 3:17Speaker 2: get over that?
- 3:18Speaker 1: Like?
- 3:18Speaker 2: How do you fight through it? Like you just there
- 3:19Speaker 2: is a collection of minds in the room. They're like
- 3:21Speaker 2: now like the OG version of this really is the ship.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Like there's certain tricks for certain things like Temple. I
- 3:26Speaker 1: have a trick for Temple, okay, which is if you
- 3:28Speaker 1: want to speed up a song, Oh man, I just
- 3:30Speaker 1: give a game. But I know a lot of people
- 3:32Speaker 1: know this probably, but if you want to speed up
- 3:34Speaker 1: a song and want to feel normal with that new Temple,
- 3:36Speaker 1: you speed it up really fast and then like speed
- 3:38Speaker 1: it down really slow, like slower than the original Temple
- 3:42Speaker 1: and get play that for a bit and then speed
- 3:44Speaker 1: it back to that new temple that you want. Kind of,
- 3:46Speaker 1: I gotta trick your brain. It's like if you're trying
- 3:48Speaker 1: to slow down a song, slow down really slow, and
- 3:50Speaker 1: then bring it back up to where you're trying to
- 3:52Speaker 1: put it like it's.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Like it's a thing something like that. I don't know,
- 3:56Speaker 2: and then you're you're you're you're speeding up like the
- 3:58Speaker 2: vocals and everything. I like to find spots for the
- 4:00Speaker 2: temples of the songs. Yeah, it's interesting too because nowadays,
- 4:03Speaker 2: like you didn't do obviously a lot of artists will
- 4:06Speaker 2: do like where they'll put a single out and they'll
- 4:08Speaker 2: be like a fucking used to be back in the
- 4:11Speaker 2: day when we was growing up, you get a chopped
- 4:12Speaker 2: in screwed version. Nowadays you get a sped up version
- 4:14Speaker 2: for TikTok She's Crazy.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know. Some songs just sound cool like
- 4:18Speaker 1: they do. They get the whole craze.
- 4:20Speaker 2: But I just remember, like you know, fools would be
- 4:22Speaker 2: high as fuck listening to chopped and screwed versions of
- 4:24Speaker 2: like fifty Said and Mike Jones.
- 4:26Speaker 1: And shit and some times, man, everything's faster.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Was that shit? Every big in Toronto, like the Ahe
- 4:30Speaker 2: Town shit.
- 4:31Speaker 1: I mean if you're like a super fan of hip hop,
- 4:34Speaker 1: yeah yeah, but not on a like whole scale.
- 4:37Speaker 2: Right what uh? You know you obviously kind of got
- 4:39Speaker 2: into the game being a producer. You're a hell of
- 4:41Speaker 2: a producer. How much of the production on this album
- 4:43Speaker 2: did you handle? I know metro Booman has his hands
- 4:45Speaker 2: in on some, but like what was kind of like
- 4:47Speaker 2: your production side on this Like.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Like on like a record like the metro boom in one,
- 4:52Speaker 1: I might not do anything. I just like just maybe
- 4:54Speaker 1: someone ranging, But every other one I'm pretty much got
- 4:56Speaker 1: my hands dirty, like and like songs like need You
- 4:58Speaker 1: that was like a beat made from scratch by me
- 5:02Speaker 1: and the drums, like my engineer came through the drums,
- 5:05Speaker 1: you know what I mean. But all the music, like
- 5:07Speaker 1: the playing music stuff, majority of us me.
- 5:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I can't imagine. Like when you're a producer,
- 5:12Speaker 2: it's probably hard to give because you get gave the
- 5:14Speaker 2: reins up. You metro got crazy album together? Yeah classic.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Somebody say that's your bit bet sound, you know what
- 5:19Speaker 2: I'm saying.
- 5:19Speaker 1: Like even that, like some people's favorite song on that
- 5:21Speaker 1: was like like oh call me help me down, Like
- 5:23Speaker 1: help me down? Was me being in the studio and
- 5:26Speaker 1: playing those chords and metro liking and the drums.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a collaboration.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Yo, what can you speak back to because I feel
- 5:36Speaker 2: like the record that kind of changed your life and
- 5:38Speaker 2: kind of like got people hip to where you were
- 5:40Speaker 2: or who you were as an artist was Beabs in
- 5:43Speaker 2: the Trap. How big of a moment was that for you?
- 5:46Speaker 2: Because I remember the video like it was kind of
- 5:48Speaker 2: like an album cut, but they did a video and
- 5:49Speaker 2: ship for it, and like it kind of like put
- 5:51Speaker 2: you on the map in terms of people like like
- 5:53Speaker 2: like could you have such a distinct voice? And people
- 5:55Speaker 2: are like, who the fuck is this?
- 5:56Speaker 1: People really thought it was justin bieber m Beabs in
- 5:59Speaker 1: the Trap. Then Travis didn't list his features on the tracks,
- 6:03Speaker 1: and some people don't know who I was at all,
- 6:05Speaker 1: right when the album came out, I probably had like
- 6:08Speaker 1: maybe ten twenty thousand followers, maybe less, I don't know.
- 6:12Speaker 1: And yeah, it's like it was like recognition that came
- 6:15Speaker 1: slowly later, Like I wanted it as soon as they
- 6:17Speaker 1: dropping like hello, like nobody's saying me up making this
- 6:20Speaker 1: v to being on there, but it took a little
- 6:22Speaker 1: bit longer. But it was still the same thing.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely, Like was my top two or three record
- 6:27Speaker 2: on that album too? Right, Yeah, for sure. And then
- 6:30Speaker 2: you got I mean, are shooting the video helped too?
- 6:33Speaker 1: That helped you, yeah, because they're like, hey, it's me.
- 6:35Speaker 1: But even then they're like, who's that?
- 6:38Speaker 2: Are you aware? Like for a wave there, like like
- 6:40Speaker 2: twenty seventeen eighteen, anybody who had your haircut had the
- 6:43Speaker 2: NAV cut. Like it became a.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Thing absolutely, Like I started seeing it a lot in
- 6:48Speaker 1: like places like Vancouver, in Canada.
- 6:51Speaker 2: In Arizona, there were Mexicans who would have your haircut
- 6:53Speaker 2: and they would ask for the NAV.
- 6:55Speaker 1: No, but okay, that's cool. But there's another one that's
- 6:58Speaker 1: like more hair. The Edgars.
- 7:00Speaker 2: The Edgar it's you have definitely a version of the
- 7:02Speaker 2: more hair you haven't cleaned up adds way exactly, it's
- 7:05Speaker 2: way more. You gotta you have a Canadian Edgar like that.
- 7:09Speaker 1: It's way more hair. These guys got helmets on their head.
- 7:11Speaker 2: You know.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Edgars are crazy.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You go to a knots Done
- 7:16Speaker 2: down here. Oh man, don't go to Knotsberry Farm during
- 7:18Speaker 2: the summertime. The Edgars are running wild out there. Bro
- 7:21Speaker 2: and the Wild dude they're wild. Yeah.
- 7:23Speaker 1: You see some edgars in the wild, you'd be like, whoa,
- 7:25Speaker 1: they don't give a fuck about nothing. Yeah, they had
- 7:27Speaker 1: to cash out for sure because they got the helmet on.
- 7:30Speaker 2: One hundred percent. Man yo for you man, Like, Uh,
- 7:34Speaker 2: it's been uh, it's been a pretty crazy year, uh
- 7:36Speaker 2: for the team obviously. Uh, the new weekend albums out?
- 7:39Speaker 2: Your album is out. What's the camaraderie like, you know,
- 7:42Speaker 2: you were at the Cardi show, cardies on your ship.
- 7:45Speaker 2: What's the camaraderie like with the XO team as a whole,
- 7:47Speaker 2: Because I feel like you guys have always kind of
- 7:49Speaker 2: moved together, you know, even if even if you weren't
- 7:51Speaker 2: in cycle, you know what I mean.
- 7:53Speaker 1: I mean, ship it's just about like, you know, everybody
- 7:56Speaker 1: being team players, you know, knowing their roles and it's
- 8:01Speaker 1: just it's like a family, you know what I'm saying,
- 8:02Speaker 1: Like the biggest dude will pick up garbage off the floor,
- 8:05Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Like it's like everybody's humble
- 8:08Speaker 1: and ground and from a similar background. So that's easy.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Now what Cardi is, We've been cool with him from
- 8:13Speaker 1: like way back. You know, It's like one of his
- 8:15Speaker 1: first shows in.
- 8:16Speaker 2: L A one time I got canceled or some shit
- 8:18Speaker 2: you ate the show got canceled or you guys got canceled.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Oh okay, okay, yeah now Cardi's a I mean you
- 8:23Speaker 2: saw the show.
- 8:24Speaker 1: It was wild.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Yeah, so much fire.
- 8:26Speaker 1: But the one that we're talking about was like some
- 8:27Speaker 1: like basement blaze I forgot from underground shiit like that's
- 8:30Speaker 1: how long we know?
- 8:31Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah. The Cardia live experience was interesting. I was
- 8:35Speaker 2: standing right there and we're just like, there's that dude
- 8:37Speaker 2: with the long hair, the white dude, wasn't.
- 8:40Speaker 1: They damn the crowd? Yeah, Birdberry, whatever is.
- 8:46Speaker 2: That dude on stage? We were like, yo, is he good?
- 8:50Speaker 2: It looked like he was having like a like an
- 8:52Speaker 2: out of body experience, like his spirit was being torn
- 8:55Speaker 2: into the sky like live on stage. And then there's
- 8:58Speaker 2: the bald white dude like running. It was just yeah,
- 9:01Speaker 2: it was wild.
- 9:01Speaker 1: You see when he jumped in the crowd though, and
- 9:03Speaker 1: he missed it. Miss man. These kids all they do
- 9:05Speaker 1: is they're holding their phones up. They're not ready for
- 9:07Speaker 1: you gotta be like.
- 9:08Speaker 2: He also hit the front of the gate. To be fair,
- 9:10Speaker 2: I think he misjudged the.
- 9:11Speaker 1: Gee, he made it over. I think he just hit
- 9:13Speaker 1: the floor.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Yeah. No, that's the other thing. I mean, back in
- 9:16Speaker 2: the day he used to be able to CrowdSurf. Confidently,
- 9:20Speaker 2: not anymore smartphones.
- 9:22Speaker 1: You get dropped.
- 9:23Speaker 2: I can't imagine where you You weren't crowdsurfing back in
- 9:26Speaker 2: the night. Nah, it was crowdsurfing.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 9:28Speaker 2: Yeah, crowdsurfing, mosh pitting.
- 9:30Speaker 1: I didn't really go to shows like that.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Yeah, what was your first concert? M hm? I feel
- 9:36Speaker 2: like nas nos. Yeah, that's a good first show. Did
- 9:39Speaker 2: he forget a lot of his lyrics? No, he's got
- 9:42Speaker 2: this thing where he like forgets like half a one
- 9:44Speaker 2: mic every time he performs it.
- 9:45Speaker 1: No way, shit happens. It happens to me too. Now.
- 9:48Speaker 2: He is my favoriterapper of all time. We got my favorite.
- 9:51Speaker 1: He's the goat.
- 9:53Speaker 2: But I've seen him like thirty times, and every time,
- 9:55Speaker 2: for whatever reason, he could just never remember the one
- 9:57Speaker 2: mic lyrics.
- 9:58Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 9:59Speaker 2: It is all. It's an interesting song because there's so
- 10:01Speaker 2: much like you know, but yeah, shots and NOAs he's
- 10:04Speaker 2: what's your favorite album?
- 10:06Speaker 1: Oh man, that's tough, Like I am still madic one
- 10:14Speaker 1: of those hard choice though, but still Mad. I think
- 10:18Speaker 1: still mad And that's like when I grew up, Like
- 10:19Speaker 1: I I grew up and the first NAS album I
- 10:22Speaker 1: heard was still Madic. I had to go backwards, you
- 10:25Speaker 1: had to go kind of dig in Nostradamis and I
- 10:29Speaker 1: Am as a double set. Yeah, and it was cheap
- 10:31Speaker 1: and ship because it's already been off. So of course
- 10:33Speaker 1: got that and then I started getting him. Then I
- 10:35Speaker 1: went all the way back to Illadic Life's of Bitch
- 10:36Speaker 1: and those songs.
- 10:37Speaker 2: You know, yeah, no, still Madic. I feel like it's
- 10:39Speaker 2: the one that can like it's either ill Madic or
- 10:41Speaker 2: still mad.
- 10:42Speaker 1: And then like I Give You Power or whatever album
- 10:43Speaker 1: that so.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Of course that was on that was that was on
- 10:47Speaker 2: his second album.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Like the penmanship is unbelievable.
- 10:49Speaker 2: Not for sure, affirmative action, incredible fire here he said push, No,
- 10:54Speaker 2: you're good, you're good shots, And I don't think a
- 10:56Speaker 2: lot of people think that, Like I feel like people
- 10:58Speaker 2: would be surprised, like yo, that you're in NAS head.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Not for real? Like shit was like you know, telling stories,
- 11:05Speaker 1: break down.
- 11:06Speaker 2: The name of the album on my way to Rexdale,
- 11:08Speaker 2: What's where is rex Stale where you're from?
- 11:09Speaker 1: Or yeah, that's what.
- 11:10Speaker 2: I'm from the neighbor area. What's it like in Rexdale?
- 11:13Speaker 1: It's whatever you wanted to be. It's like, you want
- 11:15Speaker 1: to be smart and go to school and then go
- 11:17Speaker 1: to college. You could do that. You want to be
- 11:19Speaker 1: in trouble in the streets, you could be doing that.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Like anything you want to be, you could be that. Yeah,
- 11:23Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. But some areas are a
- 11:26Speaker 1: little bit more disadvantage where you're like you don't really
- 11:28Speaker 1: have as much as a choice, but you still got a.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Choice when you I feel like, were your parents like
- 11:33Speaker 2: behind you doing music or was it something you had
- 11:36Speaker 2: to kind of convince them to do.
- 11:38Speaker 1: My mom just wanted me to do anything. She's like
- 11:40Speaker 1: anything but just some bullshoes something. Yeah, you know, it
- 11:43Speaker 1: took me an extra year to get out of high school.
- 11:45Speaker 1: I was like a failure in high school, you know,
- 11:47Speaker 1: really embarrassing thing. So you were held back. Yeah, wow,
- 11:50Speaker 1: I have to finish up. And when I finished up,
- 11:52Speaker 1: it was like what do I want to do? And
- 11:54Speaker 1: there was a studio school and I told my parents, like,
- 11:56Speaker 1: I want to go to studios. We learn it It's
- 11:57Speaker 1: far away, like on a bus an hour and a
- 11:59Speaker 1: half away every day and it cost it quite a bit.
- 12:02Speaker 1: So I just so my parents like put me down
- 12:04Speaker 1: for it and I'll figure it out later, the money thing,
- 12:06Speaker 1: you know.
- 12:06Speaker 2: So like when you would go there, you learn like
- 12:08Speaker 2: pro tools and shit and.
- 12:09Speaker 1: Pro tools, class SSL, yeah all that shit. Yeah damn.
- 12:14Speaker 2: So you were able to like you could track, you
- 12:15Speaker 2: could engineer, you can do everything.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Yeah, so that's why I did. I just I did
- 12:18Speaker 1: definite a while. I made beats and I tracked people
- 12:20Speaker 1: until I became myself.
- 12:22Speaker 2: In twenty twenty five. How are you making beats? Is
- 12:24Speaker 2: it still fil studio? Is it able toon?
- 12:26Speaker 1: Is it logic for melodies because the quantizer it just
- 12:29Speaker 1: works right away, you know what I mean? And fl
- 12:32Speaker 1: for drums. And now my friends are convincing me to
- 12:35Speaker 1: move on to Ableton.
- 12:36Speaker 2: People love Ableton, Like if you find somebody who loves Ableton,
- 12:39Speaker 2: they will sell Like it's like it's like finding a
- 12:41Speaker 2: Mormon or something. They swear by it, you know.
- 12:44Speaker 1: So I'm about to have three programs under my belts
- 12:46Speaker 1: and I know he use pro tools as well.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Yeah, no, Ableton's vibe. Talk to me about for you?
- 12:52Speaker 2: How much are you focused on? Like, like do you
- 12:55Speaker 2: even care to produce outside of your own shit, Like
- 12:58Speaker 2: are you sending beat packs out? Is that something that
- 13:00Speaker 2: you're still.
- 13:00Speaker 1: Like uptil now? I haven't really been a beat pack
- 13:04Speaker 1: center kind of person, like if I collabed on the
- 13:06Speaker 1: beat ended up getting placed, for example, like I clabbed
- 13:08Speaker 1: on the beat and it went from back to back.
- 13:10Speaker 1: I collabed on the beat and then went on like
- 13:11Speaker 1: Koda Black album with Ben billions, but he had to beat.
- 13:13Speaker 1: You know he's doing that from just me from my
- 13:17Speaker 1: email or from my phone. I'm going to start now
- 13:19Speaker 1: because I just recently set up a studio in my
- 13:22Speaker 1: living room. So I had a full blown studio in
- 13:25Speaker 1: one of my rooms in my house. But I don't
- 13:27Speaker 1: like being trot through in the room, so I like
- 13:28Speaker 1: being in the living room. So I've moved everything to
- 13:29Speaker 1: the living room. So your living room is the studio. Now.
- 13:31Speaker 1: I got two set ups, a real studio and then
- 13:33Speaker 1: like a cool studio like Yamaha's with a suboofer and
- 13:36Speaker 1: a Midi keyboard and my laptop, and I've been making
- 13:39Speaker 1: beats down. I've been making beats more often, so I
- 13:41Speaker 1: might start sending the ones that I don't want to
- 13:42Speaker 1: use out.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Well, then you gets your album out, so now it's like, Okay,
- 13:45Speaker 2: I got all this shit. You probably probably sitting on
- 13:46Speaker 2: hell of shit, like how many You probably got a
- 13:47Speaker 2: lot of stuff that didn't make the album too, A
- 13:49Speaker 2: lot of songs, a lot of beats. Deluxe coming.
- 13:51Speaker 1: I want to put the deluxe out, the one that
- 13:53Speaker 1: we sold on my site.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Yeah, are you? I'm always always wondering when when you
- 13:59Speaker 2: cause I think this happened. Every time there's like a
- 14:02Speaker 2: big song like back to Back, you didn't really know
- 14:04Speaker 2: that that was gonna end up being what it was
- 14:06Speaker 2: going to be.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Absolutely not.
- 14:07Speaker 2: I feel like that happens all the time. Like I
- 14:09Speaker 2: think with the ether Beat, the same shit happened with
- 14:11Speaker 2: with Ron Browse. Really was was there? Like was there
- 14:16Speaker 2: any what was the gift in the curse of that situation?
- 14:21Speaker 2: Could you end up with with with with meet mil.
- 14:23Speaker 1: On tap you know years later? Yeah? To be honest,
- 14:25Speaker 1: it was a tricky situation because at first I wasn't
- 14:29Speaker 1: really getting credited like that because of the whoever I
- 14:32Speaker 1: made the beaule who didn't want to I don't know,
- 14:34Speaker 1: And then as later on I ended up clearing that
- 14:36Speaker 1: up and getting the credit publicly, but I was I
- 14:38Speaker 1: was already popping as an artist before everybody knew that
- 14:40Speaker 1: I produced back to back. And the way I got
- 14:42Speaker 1: popping as an artist was, you know, meet Mile really
- 14:46Speaker 1: discovered my music and was like showing a person and
- 14:49Speaker 1: people like, you know, gosh and this and that, and
- 14:51Speaker 1: he was really like going through that whole thing. At
- 14:53Speaker 1: the same time, they didn't not knowing that I produced it,
- 14:56Speaker 1: and I didn't know it was going for that song.
- 14:59Speaker 1: It's not like I knew it was one for that
- 15:00Speaker 1: and it was just kind of awkward. Like I remember
- 15:02Speaker 1: like going around the first time and being like, damn,
- 15:03Speaker 1: I wonder if he knows, like you know what I mean,
- 15:05Speaker 1: if cousin knows, because I really fucked with him. So yeah,
- 15:10Speaker 1: that was a stretching interesting you guys, I mean doing fucking.
- 15:13Speaker 2: I mean taps one of my favorite songs right.
- 15:15Speaker 1: One of my biggest records, which is like it's dope, YO.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Talk to me about your because I feel like you've
- 15:23Speaker 2: kind of been adopted by l A a bit here.
- 15:25Speaker 2: I think I remember seeing you when Nip did his
- 15:28Speaker 2: grand opening the Marathon store in like two thousand and seven.
- 15:33Speaker 2: You were out there, what was your relationship, like with it.
- 15:35Speaker 1: When he was here, Man, damn slow in Bucks. You
- 15:38Speaker 1: know that's one of their closest friends, dropped the Queens.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Yeah exactly. You know. He spent a lot of time
- 15:43Speaker 1: in Queen's. So when I went over there, I went
- 15:45Speaker 1: with Sloan Bucks and that day they even want to
- 15:47Speaker 1: take me. I was like, yo, yeah, I just leave
- 15:48Speaker 1: me in the house all the time. I'm a young
- 15:49Speaker 1: artist at the time. They didn't want to take me everyone.
- 15:51Speaker 1: I'm like, I'm going there, but I want to go
- 15:53Speaker 1: when I go. When I when I first go there,
- 15:55Speaker 1: niffs Nips coming out of the car and he told me, Yo,
- 15:58Speaker 1: I fucked with re up with Belly. He's like, I
- 16:01Speaker 1: fucked with that verse. I'm like whatever, real, I'm like,
- 16:03Speaker 1: damn tried to Belly one of the greatest of all time.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Know who I am is crazy. So Nip's like, yo,
- 16:08Speaker 1: come on, like come in the store. I went crazy,
- 16:10Speaker 1: bought all the stuff from my boys and all that shit,
- 16:11Speaker 1: got everything from people back home. So after that, he's like, yo,
- 16:15Speaker 1: come on, let's go smoke in the front kick doing it.
- 16:17Speaker 1: More than he's like, yo, let's get in the ATV.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Their bikes together. I'm like okay, and he's like, I'm
- 16:23Speaker 1: like when you learn how to drive, He's like, oh,
- 16:24Speaker 1: just last week, I'm like, nah, I'm not hopping out.
- 16:27Speaker 1: I started going yoh yeah, wait up away for Bucks
- 16:29Speaker 1: Bucks over there, Like no, I'm not getting off a yo.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Nip always showed me love seeing him like multiple times
- 16:34Speaker 1: after that, always love. He is knowledge and recipes of
- 16:38Speaker 1: that man bro.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Great guy. Man, you're a shroom guy. Yeah.
- 16:42Speaker 1: I was hard on it before, but I've just slowed
- 16:44Speaker 1: down on it.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Now. What is your Have you ever had like a
- 16:47Speaker 2: hero's dose level of Like.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Yeah, it has. I feel like your tolerance goes up
- 16:51Speaker 1: the more you take it. So I did a rolling
- 16:53Speaker 1: loud back in Toronto when my album just dropped, and
- 16:56Speaker 1: I took over five grams in the studio.
- 17:00Speaker 2: So yeah, that's my sister start.
- 17:02Speaker 1: She has a fiance now, the one that lives in Toronto,
- 17:05Speaker 1: and she brought him to the studio because we're gonna
- 17:08Speaker 1: go together. And one of my sisters the show. This
- 17:10Speaker 1: guy couldn't believe what you were seeing. He was because
- 17:12Speaker 1: he never been around that kind of shit. So he
- 17:14Speaker 1: was like, Yo, this guy just took all those shrooms
- 17:16Speaker 1: he just made three beats and now he's about to
- 17:19Speaker 1: go perform at Rolling Loud And when I was so
- 17:23Speaker 1: fried when I went on roll Out, but it was
- 17:24Speaker 1: like I was so used to it that like my
- 17:26Speaker 1: lyrics that I usually forget were like only a teleprompter
- 17:29Speaker 1: in my mind. And like when I when I went
- 17:32Speaker 1: on stage, I literally grabbed my sister. I was like,
- 17:34Speaker 1: looked at her eyes. I was like, watch this. And
- 17:36Speaker 1: then I went on stage and I was like performing
- 17:39Speaker 1: and celebrating at the same time because my album's outso
- 17:40Speaker 1: I'm just like it had to be the best shit ever.
- 17:43Speaker 1: It was the best performance I ever. Like, I don't
- 17:45Speaker 1: know if the crowd felt the same way, but I
- 17:48Speaker 1: felt like I was half for the best performance of
- 17:50Speaker 1: my whole life.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Yo. It's like shrews. Like if you take a ship
- 17:52Speaker 2: ton and you know, like you said, if you know
- 17:54Speaker 2: what you're doing, you can like use him as a
- 17:57Speaker 2: super powerful That's.
- 17:58Speaker 1: The point I was taking them since they weren't working. Yeah,
- 18:00Speaker 1: I had to take so much. I took a hero
- 18:02Speaker 1: whole hero bar.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Yeah. Belly gave me a book about uh, I forget
- 18:07Speaker 2: what it was called. It's at my house. I read
- 18:08Speaker 2: it it's about it's about it kind of like the
- 18:10Speaker 2: whole whole books about this doctor wrote this book about
- 18:14Speaker 2: psilocybin therapy and shit. And I remember it goes one
- 18:17Speaker 2: time I was at Belly's house and you've probably seen
- 18:19Speaker 2: this thing. This motherfucker has this uh this thing with
- 18:22Speaker 2: sand on it and when you play the music that
- 18:25Speaker 2: it makes fat yeah.
- 18:27Speaker 1: And I was tripping the fuck out because I was like, this.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Is crazy, Like this is like music is real, Like
- 18:32Speaker 2: it's tangible, like you could see the frequencies like with
- 18:35Speaker 2: the sand.
- 18:36Speaker 1: In some way or another. They say this, even this
- 18:38Speaker 1: desk is made up of.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Frequency, for sure. Have you had a bad trip though?
- 18:43Speaker 1: My first trip ever was about trip. My first trip ever,
- 18:46Speaker 1: I was like eighteen years old and we did it
- 18:49Speaker 1: with a couple of my little Indian homies. We did
- 18:52Speaker 1: it in Toronto and we we just had I had
- 18:54Speaker 1: a horrible trip. And one thing I noticed was back
- 18:57Speaker 1: then I was running around with the wrong crowd, doing
- 18:59Speaker 1: the wrong things, feeling school Da da da da, and
- 19:01Speaker 1: my homie, who was like the weirdo and people made
- 19:03Speaker 1: fun of him kind of type shit, he was having
- 19:05Speaker 1: a great trip and that kind of like taught me something.
- 19:08Speaker 1: I'm like, this guy just is himself all the time.
- 19:10Speaker 1: So that's why I feel like you and I'm trying
- 19:12Speaker 1: to be something. I'm not hanging out with the wrong
- 19:14Speaker 1: people doing the wrong things. And it really like when
- 19:16Speaker 1: I came out of that ship, I graduated high school,
- 19:19Speaker 1: switched up who I'm hanging out with. Everything went. So
- 19:21Speaker 1: it was a good trip technically it turned out to be,
- 19:23Speaker 1: but the trip during it horrible, terrible. Every time I
- 19:25Speaker 1: closed my eyes, fib breathing and dragon coming at me.
- 19:27Speaker 1: When I opened something bads happening everything. I couldn't get
- 19:29Speaker 1: away from the ship. Have you done d MT? No, No,
- 19:31Speaker 1: that's what I want to do that ship. But I'm
- 19:33Speaker 1: hell scared, bro, think I'm ready. I feel like, once
- 19:35Speaker 1: you're spiritually balance, while you're sober, right, you can handle
- 19:37Speaker 1: all that shit.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Yeah you're you're you're pretty sober now, right.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I smoked weed every day. But like in terms
- 19:42Speaker 1: of like, you know, the ship you were rapping about,
- 19:45Speaker 1: I'll tap into stuff, you know what I mean, Like
- 19:46Speaker 1: if it's like I'm in the studio.
- 19:48Speaker 2: For your all time best druggie rapper. By the way,
- 19:50Speaker 2: In terms of the subject subject matter, appreciated.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Those the drugs kids are I'll tap into some ship
- 19:56Speaker 1: Like if I'm in the studio for two weeks, there
- 19:58Speaker 1: might be a day where we are dabbling something just
- 20:01Speaker 1: to get a different kind of vibe. Not every day, right,
- 20:03Speaker 1: that's just going to kill you.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Yeah. No, I feel like, you know, especially, I feel
- 20:07Speaker 2: like when you get first got in the game, Fetanah
- 20:09Speaker 2: wouldn't really like dang for real, you know, fast forward.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Now it's like you it's like you gotta get the
- 20:14Speaker 2: drug testing kids and ship out.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Yeah, even if you gotta trust the source and it
- 20:18Speaker 1: is good work, it's it no't matter that shit isn't
- 20:19Speaker 1: gonna work you eventually, for sure, eventually.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Even the weed now is fucking because they're spraying the well, no,
- 20:25Speaker 2: they're spraying weed with the turfs. It's it's like, what
- 20:28Speaker 2: are you even smoking in New York?
- 20:30Speaker 1: And New York is heavy right now?
- 20:31Speaker 2: In New York is bad.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Young dudes, the young dudes, they want that over the
- 20:34Speaker 1: regular weed. Yeah, because like you're like, give me the
- 20:36Speaker 1: shit with the turfs.
- 20:37Speaker 2: They're getting some bullshit packs from LA and then they
- 20:39Speaker 2: you know, they'll spruce them up.
- 20:41Speaker 1: So from week lemon cherry yeah, the Turfs on.
- 20:45Speaker 2: One hundred percent. Man, you're a big hockey fan growing
- 20:49Speaker 2: up more so ya is that just like because you're
- 20:51Speaker 2: from Canada, Because I don't get it.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Grew up playing and ship like Maple Leafs. Maple Leaves,
- 20:56Speaker 1: they're the best they've ever been. But damn, bro, they
- 20:58Speaker 1: haven't got a Stanley Cupping sixty years or some shit.
- 21:01Speaker 1: So I was like, I'm just waiting on that.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Yeah, So like, are you would you see a bigger
- 21:05Speaker 2: Raptors fan or Maple Leaves.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Fan Raptors fan, But I'm not gonna lie. Bandwagon the
- 21:09Speaker 1: Raptors this last championship. I was growing up and Vince
- 21:13Speaker 1: Carter and Tracy McGrady. Of course that was my favorite team.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Yeah, the Dunk Contest days were crazy. So before the
- 21:19Speaker 2: before you bandwagon the Raptors after they won with the
- 21:22Speaker 2: Kawhi thing where you like a fan of another random team. Curry, Oh, Steph,
- 21:26Speaker 2: you're just a bandwagon.
- 21:27Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, just Curry Curry. We've been seeing
- 21:30Speaker 1: Curry how good he is back in the day when
- 21:31Speaker 1: he had Monte Ellis on the team. So if you
- 21:33Speaker 1: want to Andrew David Lee, he's playing a game and
- 21:38Speaker 1: Monte Ellis was a star. But when you passed the Curry,
- 21:40Speaker 1: he's hitting the threes. Likes just Curry, guys, Curry got
- 21:42Speaker 1: fire and we've watched him grow into who he is.
- 21:44Speaker 1: I'm like, well, I like Curry Curry for sure?
- 21:47Speaker 2: Have you uh if? I feel like obviously their hip
- 21:51Speaker 2: hop scene in India has been blowing up. Uh you
- 21:55Speaker 2: know it's like his own thing. Like how tapped in?
- 21:58Speaker 1: Are you? Like?
- 21:59Speaker 2: Obviously you're huge here, but are you tapped in it all?
- 22:01Speaker 2: To like what was going on over there?
- 22:02Speaker 1: I know everything that's going on. I'm aware of everything
- 22:05Speaker 1: that is going on, but topped in as far as
- 22:06Speaker 1: like how many people have had many music with? Yeah,
- 22:08Speaker 1: only really EP Dyllans so far, and I plan on
- 22:12Speaker 1: working with everybody if I can.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Yeah, what's the homies name? With the Big Dogs record?
- 22:16Speaker 2: I had him on Kine Uh wait a minute, get
- 22:20Speaker 2: what the fuck is?
- 22:21Speaker 1: Oh? That's going I bumped into him actually in Thailand?
- 22:26Speaker 2: Well now, Thailand. Yeah, I was there, Yeah, yeah, we
- 22:29Speaker 2: didn't really I didn't see you there, but I was there. Yeah,
- 22:31Speaker 2: I was there for twelve days. How was your Thailand experience?
- 22:35Speaker 1: Its good? Was it nice? Nice? Good food? Yeah.
- 22:40Speaker 2: So good food, good food, good food. Did you just
- 22:43Speaker 2: stay in that area? Did you go to Bangkok Pataya
- 22:45Speaker 2: and then Bangkok Pattaya's got that street man.
- 22:48Speaker 1: The hotel is unbelievable to all that street we don't
- 22:52Speaker 1: that streets gets fishy, real fishy, man.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Yeah, the street joints super fishy.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Yeah, you're like, you can see them, they got you
- 23:01Speaker 1: can see them. Anybody who says they get tricked, they
- 23:04Speaker 1: didn't get tricked. Hell known, impossible, impossible.
- 23:08Speaker 2: But yeah, no, it's a it's a great place, great food.
- 23:11Speaker 2: There's elephants too. You know, I ain't see the elephants
- 23:14Speaker 2: and tigers. I'm glad I ain't. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.
- 23:17Speaker 2: And they got a bootleg mall there. That's fucking crazy.
- 23:19Speaker 1: None. I went to a real mall. They felt like America,
- 23:22Speaker 1: five story fake mall. I would love to go there
- 23:25Speaker 1: just to see its fire.
- 23:27Speaker 2: All my kids got Travis Scott's that they don't know
- 23:29Speaker 2: are fake. My kids are running around with fake shooting.
- 23:34Speaker 2: I said, wait, how much of these?
- 23:35Speaker 1: I looked at him.
- 23:36Speaker 2: I said, oh no, we're doing this.
- 23:39Speaker 1: I had to buy a whole new suitcase just to
- 23:40Speaker 1: bring fake gifts back. Yeah, for sure.
- 23:43Speaker 2: It's good times.
- 23:44Speaker 1: Man.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Shout out to a shout out to uh, you know
- 23:48Speaker 2: Thailand and and and and and the hustlers out there.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Is there a tour coming absolutely as soon as we can.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Are you Are you already trying to figure out like
- 23:56Speaker 2: the date, like the dates.
- 23:57Speaker 1: I've been on, you know, my team about it having
- 23:59Speaker 1: like only starting this to announce and they're working on
- 24:01Speaker 1: it right now, so we'll get it.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Uh. Did you go to Coachella last weekend?
- 24:04Speaker 1: No?
- 24:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like you were the kind of guy
- 24:06Speaker 2: to be at every fest. I feel like at Coachella
- 24:08Speaker 2: you'd see nap backstage. Really, I don't know, it just
- 24:11Speaker 2: feels like your kind of thing. You're going this weekend?
- 24:14Speaker 1: N I don't know why.
- 24:15Speaker 2: I just don't feel like when this year. Maybe because
- 24:17Speaker 2: it's fucking in the middle of the desert and I
- 24:20Speaker 2: have been so many times. It's like how many times
- 24:22Speaker 2: do you need to fucking go to understand what the happening?
- 24:24Speaker 1: Yeah, and last year I was performing, so it was
- 24:26Speaker 1: more lit.
- 24:26Speaker 2: You know, talk about your uh, your just chemistry with
- 24:30Speaker 2: a guy like metro Booman, who you know is one
- 24:32Speaker 2: of the greatest producers. If not at this point fuck.
- 24:34Speaker 2: I think he's got the best producer album ever, Heroes
- 24:37Speaker 2: and Villains a classic. But uh, what y'all's like chemistry?
- 24:40Speaker 2: Like in the studio, how'd you guys kind of hone in.
- 24:42Speaker 1: And Cash put us together at first like a lot
- 24:45Speaker 1: of people, but just genuine relationships my brother and my friend,
- 24:50Speaker 1: my dog, you know, and and and then on top
- 24:52Speaker 1: of we we both make beats, both make music, so
- 24:55Speaker 1: it's just easy. I don't know, like I haven't worked
- 24:58Speaker 1: on them in a long time since Perfect. And then
- 25:00Speaker 1: the day that we finally sat down and locked in
- 25:03Speaker 1: for this album, it was just flowing, like just like
- 25:06Speaker 1: back in the day no Time Lost. We did like
- 25:07Speaker 1: four three four songs in the night.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Yeah, it's crazy too, because like I feel like you
- 25:12Speaker 2: got to kind of have a different approach when you
- 25:14Speaker 2: worked on Perfect timing where you're doing like a full
- 25:16Speaker 2: collaborative album with somebody. Did y'all know that told you
- 25:19Speaker 2: but you guys were going to do it? Did it
- 25:20Speaker 2: just happened where it was like, damn, we got like
- 25:22Speaker 2: a bunch of joints. Then we might as well make
- 25:23Speaker 2: this ship a project.
- 25:25Speaker 1: We knew we're gonna do a project called Perfect timing,
- 25:28Speaker 1: and we knew we were working on it, and then
- 25:29Speaker 1: there'll be like La sessions. Then he'd traveled to go
- 25:31Speaker 1: do something untravelable something, and then we where we really
- 25:34Speaker 1: locked in was in Atlanta at I can't remember the
- 25:38Speaker 1: studios name, but it's far out in the bluffs. That's
- 25:41Speaker 1: what we locked in through.
- 25:43Speaker 2: A great album Part two one day. I know, God
- 25:47Speaker 2: bless for sure. You do a lot of video gaming too, Yeah,
- 25:51Speaker 2: what's your what's your go to games? Right now?
- 25:54Speaker 1: I played the Weirdest Ship, like I played Call of Duty.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Obviously I play sports games and stuff, But right now
- 25:58Speaker 1: I'm playing Schedule at one of it and playing Billatrot
- 26:02Speaker 1: is a card game that's really popular. Schedule one. You're
- 26:05Speaker 1: playing a drug dealing game, like you literally could sell
- 26:09Speaker 1: anything on PlayStation. No, it's on Steam, like you know,
- 26:12Speaker 1: like on the oh yeah, the app. Yeah, it's the
- 26:15Speaker 1: biggest game on it right now. I think like most
- 26:17Speaker 1: highest rat is it like some grand theft auto ship bro. No,
- 26:20Speaker 1: it's like shitty graphics but good concept.
- 26:23Speaker 2: So you're like a drug dealer.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Yeah, you make you can sell we you can sell dope.
- 26:27Speaker 1: You just gotta you gotta have your workers to work
- 26:30Speaker 1: and have plants and set up lights and all that
- 26:33Speaker 1: and like have a like, oh so you can set
- 26:34Speaker 1: up like a grow a packaging station. It's like mad intricate,
- 26:37Speaker 1: you know what I.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Mean, What the fuck? And you're doing streaming and all
- 26:40Speaker 2: that too?
- 26:41Speaker 1: Nah, no, no, I did the other day I played
- 26:43Speaker 1: Call of Duty with Biffle on streamed.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Do you feel, like, how do you feel about the whole?
- 26:46Speaker 2: I feel like the streaming shit's kind of cool, Like
- 26:48Speaker 2: for the most part, it feels like, you know, I
- 26:49Speaker 2: think guy's like a like super cool, like DDG is
- 26:52Speaker 2: doing this thing. Some of these guys are a little
- 26:53Speaker 2: corny to be honest, But how do you feel about it?
- 26:56Speaker 2: Because it feels like that's kind of the new media,
- 26:58Speaker 2: like the streaming guy.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I mean, I think things us evolve, you know, yeah,
- 27:01Speaker 1: and it's either you get with the times or you
- 27:03Speaker 1: just get left in the dust. And it's like what
- 27:05Speaker 1: they're doing is cool. I just don't know about it
- 27:07Speaker 1: for me and my brain, you know what I mean.
- 27:08Speaker 1: But what they're doing is cool and it does well.
- 27:10Speaker 1: And I think a lot of them have cool personalities.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Like yeah, I went on DDG stream and I was
- 27:14Speaker 2: helling nervous because I was like whatever I say, Oh,
- 27:17Speaker 2: that's it. It's like not coming down, that's it. You
- 27:21Speaker 2: gotta have pr training for real for sure, and they'll
- 27:23Speaker 2: clip the fuck out of here. Dude. They clipped everything
- 27:26Speaker 2: like him and I just started having a conversation about
- 27:28Speaker 2: like my pizza restaurant and ship, and then like it
- 27:31Speaker 2: turned into some other ship and then I had to
- 27:32Speaker 2: stop and be like, oh shit, like there's like cameras
- 27:35Speaker 2: on the walls and.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Because like farming now they call it or off farming,
- 27:38Speaker 1: clip farming.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Dude, the clip farming. Yeah, no, it's wild. It's almost
- 27:43Speaker 2: like that's the whole point of streaming is like how
- 27:46Speaker 2: are we gonna just fucking We got to give these
- 27:49Speaker 2: clippers some ship.
- 27:50Speaker 1: Now, when I was with Neon like off camera like before,
- 27:52Speaker 1: like he's super cool, he was. We were in New
- 27:55Speaker 1: York and we're doing other things and I just seen
- 27:56Speaker 1: him were his head's as streaming like that shit is
- 27:58Speaker 1: stress for sure. He's like, how can we make contact
- 28:01Speaker 1: out of the content out of this? And then next thing,
- 28:03Speaker 1: why are you think about your head? Is how can
- 28:04Speaker 1: we get a clip? How can we get something?
- 28:06Speaker 2: Yo? Let's go run around the projects with Jim Jones.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Ye see what happens.
- 28:09Speaker 1: He's had a video shoot with us that ship. It
- 28:11Speaker 1: wasn't strong enough content, Yea, it wasn't insane bro, Like, yo, man,
- 28:14Speaker 1: this shit's got to be a little more crazy. Does
- 28:16Speaker 1: anybody any guns? Right? Shout out to the streamers, Man,
- 28:20Speaker 1: I get it. Nobody's crazy. It's like it's like not sustainable.
- 28:23Speaker 2: I feel like long term, yeah, because it's like if
- 28:25Speaker 2: you're Neon and you're like thirty five, at one point
- 28:27Speaker 2: you're like, damn, I still trying to run around and
- 28:29Speaker 2: chase like moments.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Yeah, it's kind of like hip hop too.
- 28:32Speaker 2: It is, Yep, it is. It's like the SoundCloud era
- 28:35Speaker 2: but for content makers right now, man.
- 28:37Speaker 1: And that audience is very like chew you up and
- 28:40Speaker 1: spit you out quick.
- 28:41Speaker 2: How do you think you were because I feel like
- 28:43Speaker 2: you were kind of like you were coming into the
- 28:46Speaker 2: game during the SoundCloud era and what I like to
- 28:48Speaker 2: call the dark Ages of hip hop in terms of
- 28:50Speaker 2: like some of the stuff that was getting signed and shit.
- 28:52Speaker 2: You know, we think about some artists that pop in
- 28:54Speaker 2: our heads when I say that, But like you were
- 28:57Speaker 2: able to kind of like withstand that era, that era
- 29:00Speaker 2: of music was was really there was some bad shit
- 29:04Speaker 2: that was popping, and a lot of people were doing
- 29:06Speaker 2: shit for like Instagram likes and clout and getting signed
- 29:10Speaker 2: off of that shit, and you didn't really have a
- 29:12Speaker 2: big public profile. You weren't doing like in person interviews
- 29:15Speaker 2: like I like, you weren't like you didn't have that
- 29:17Speaker 2: ANTIQ shit going on. Like did you ever like feel
- 29:20Speaker 2: any pressure when you first got into the game, tore
- 29:22Speaker 2: like I guess playing the circus with these other fucks. Hmm.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Sometimes I thought maybe it might help me, you know,
- 29:31Speaker 1: move the needle right and for this shit like that.
- 29:33Speaker 1: But no, I'm never going to compromise who I am
- 29:37Speaker 1: and do some sucker shit. I just I'd rather I'd
- 29:39Speaker 1: rather be fucking number fucking twenty in the world, number
- 29:43Speaker 1: forty in the world, number top one hundred in the world,
- 29:46Speaker 1: right and remain like myself and true to myself and
- 29:48Speaker 1: my morals, like you know what I mean, because that's
- 29:50Speaker 1: still great. Like people expect everybody just to be number one,
- 29:52Speaker 1: Like I'm cool being top one hundred, top of thousand
- 29:55Speaker 1: cares like money, right, Like you're doing shows, people showing
- 29:58Speaker 1: up to the shows, buying tickets. We having stuff. I'm happy.
- 30:01Speaker 2: I think that's important too. Is like I always tell
- 30:03Speaker 2: artists that, man, don't pocket watch. There's so many artists
- 30:06Speaker 2: will pocket watch, and not even necessarily money, but just
- 30:08Speaker 2: they'll look at what other artists are doing or other
- 30:11Speaker 2: artists recognition, and then they get all self conscious about
- 30:14Speaker 2: what they're doing, and it's like not not just do
- 30:17Speaker 2: you right, and you your fans will appreciate that more
- 30:20Speaker 2: than you trying to fucking.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Do its like even like money, while I shit like that,
- 30:24Speaker 1: like me and me even like I'm a producer, so
- 30:26Speaker 1: I'm producing a lot of my own ship, so I'm
- 30:28Speaker 1: getting the different kind of slice of the pot, you
- 30:29Speaker 1: know what I'm saying on the good songs that it is.
- 30:31Speaker 2: Are you able to like when you have like a
- 30:34Speaker 2: budget for an album? I know some artists will have
- 30:36Speaker 2: like a budget for producers. Do you like, like, are
- 30:39Speaker 2: you taking out of you are you paying yourself out
- 30:41Speaker 2: of your budget?
- 30:42Speaker 1: No?
- 30:42Speaker 2: For production?
- 30:43Speaker 1: And I pay all my producers, well everybody, because I
- 30:46Speaker 1: have respect for producers because I'm one of them. I
- 30:47Speaker 1: know how it goes.
- 30:48Speaker 2: And that's the thing that happens a lot of times.
- 30:50Speaker 1: I don't know exactly how the loops, you know what
- 30:52Speaker 1: I mean.
- 30:52Speaker 2: And then sometimes you'll see somebody will have a loop
- 30:54Speaker 2: on a beat and then they get a little crazy.
- 30:56Speaker 2: You start talking shit online, like bro the worst.
- 30:59Speaker 1: One is and you use a loop from one guy
- 31:01Speaker 1: and when it comes to clearing it, you find that
- 31:02Speaker 1: there's four other guys that I was playing guitar and
- 31:05Speaker 1: the cow bell on it, like, piss you off.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Four guys did one loop.
- 31:09Speaker 1: That's why I'd be talking everybody like make sure are
- 31:11Speaker 1: you sure you did this by yourself? I'll be like
- 31:13Speaker 1: before I even want to recorder, and now I'd be
- 31:15Speaker 1: like making sure yeah.
- 31:16Speaker 2: And like now, even with Splice, I feel like Spice
- 31:18Speaker 2: has changed it so much because like, if you're just
- 31:20Speaker 2: like scrolling through Splice, you could just fine, like, but
- 31:23Speaker 2: then the shit that's on Splice, it's like I think
- 31:26Speaker 2: when you do shit on Splice, right, isn't it royalty
- 31:28Speaker 2: free if you use it? Yeah? No it is. Yeah,
- 31:31Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure it is. You ever go on Spice?
- 31:34Speaker 1: I tried it once? Yeah. Uh. Like me, I'll use
- 31:38Speaker 1: like something like a Splice, but I use Arcade a
- 31:41Speaker 1: little bit more because our kide is easier to like
- 31:43Speaker 1: run to me but I still end up finding it,
- 31:45Speaker 1: like finding myself taking the shit out or like barely
- 31:48Speaker 1: leaving just a little vocal sample and the rest of
- 31:50Speaker 1: it was like the always the first chords and the
- 31:51Speaker 1: first ship that gets laid down the foundation is gonna
- 31:53Speaker 1: be rob like me. And then I might add like
- 31:55Speaker 1: a little vocal sample from a garcade or something in there,
- 31:58Speaker 1: like drown it out. But I don't like to make
- 32:00Speaker 1: anything that's like recognizable that you could find it. And
- 32:02Speaker 1: they're like, how did you do this?
- 32:03Speaker 2: Somebody?
- 32:04Speaker 1: We know exactly what used this because I like that
- 32:07Speaker 1: I pressed one button. Damn mad people's using this, I
- 32:09Speaker 1: know right away.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Have you ever gone on YouTube and just typed in
- 32:12Speaker 2: nav type beats just to see what's on there.
- 32:13Speaker 1: All the time? All the time?
- 32:15Speaker 2: Ever? Any heat?
- 32:16Speaker 1: Huh? Is ever? Any heat? Out of ten? To be honest,
- 32:20Speaker 1: maybe one or two which is.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Great, which is not bad because it was zero. Yeah zero.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Some of them like, oh this is kind of fire.
- 32:26Speaker 2: I'll do all the time, yeah, all the time. Do
- 32:28Speaker 2: you ever do anything on a type beat nap time? No?
- 32:31Speaker 1: I would, I would though if I if I vibe
- 32:33Speaker 1: to it, for sure, I don't care. I'll find them
- 32:34Speaker 1: in PIM.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that's dope. That's important. What made you kind of
- 32:37Speaker 2: because when you first got into the game, like I said,
- 32:39Speaker 2: like you were very like protective of your image and
- 32:43Speaker 2: not necessarily like you didn't do any like any interviews
- 32:46Speaker 2: you would do weren't on camera. What was the thought
- 32:49Speaker 2: precess behind that and what kind of had you kind
- 32:51Speaker 2: of like change that perspective and start just kind of
- 32:52Speaker 2: getting out there more in terms of just throwing people
- 32:54Speaker 2: who you were.
- 32:55Speaker 1: I mean when I first met Cash, he just was
- 32:58Speaker 1: looking at my Instagram on my phone. He's like, let
- 33:00Speaker 1: me see it on YouTube, and he's like, are you
- 33:03Speaker 1: attached to any of this stuff on here? Because the
- 33:04Speaker 1: posts were in the post kind of whack right, And
- 33:07Speaker 1: I'm like nah, And he's like cool, I'm just started
- 33:09Speaker 1: leading shit. You're cool, Like yeah, we give shit, do
- 33:11Speaker 1: whatever you want, man. You He deleted that ship and
- 33:15Speaker 1: then literally like I had four thousand followers and like
- 33:19Speaker 1: literally like after that, like the following weeks, I started
- 33:21Speaker 1: blowing up so much and people had no idea. Then
- 33:24Speaker 1: they'd have my old pictures be like, oh, this is him.
- 33:26Speaker 1: They're like, no, it's not him.
- 33:27Speaker 2: They was black.
- 33:28Speaker 1: They thought I was this thought was that, I'm like,
- 33:31Speaker 1: they're just working out. I don't know, shit, just worked out.
- 33:34Speaker 1: But then I got really frustrated with Ship. And then
- 33:36Speaker 1: one time I was in the club with Abel the weekend.
- 33:39Speaker 1: I was in the club with him and and the
- 33:44Speaker 1: manager owner of the club in Toronto screamed on me
- 33:47Speaker 1: for smoking weed, Like screamed on me because yeah, and
- 33:51Speaker 1: the security guard piece watched the whole thing go down,
- 33:54Speaker 1: and and this is my first time ever going out
- 33:55Speaker 1: with him, yeah, and he looked at it go down,
- 33:57Speaker 1: and then he kind of went and told Abe what happened.
- 33:59Speaker 1: He's like, what he said, what happened? He's I'm like, yo,
- 34:02Speaker 1: this guy told me not to smoke. He's like what
- 34:04Speaker 1: the fuck. He's like, I'll kick everybody out of this
- 34:05Speaker 1: club and will be the only one that will smoke.
- 34:07Speaker 1: And I'm like, for real. He's like, you know what, Bro,
- 34:08Speaker 1: I'm tied to the Ship. He's like, if you do
- 34:10Speaker 1: need to see who you are, takes a picture of
- 34:12Speaker 1: me and post it on his Instagram like he's a
- 34:14Speaker 1: real one.
- 34:14Speaker 2: Bro.
- 34:14Speaker 1: At the end of the day, it was like the
- 34:15Speaker 1: great reveal, so I need did that. I was like,
- 34:17Speaker 1: oh shit, up now, oh shit, you know what I mean?
- 34:21Speaker 1: So that was like twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen, Yeah, yo,
- 34:24Speaker 1: what was like?
- 34:25Speaker 2: What was it like? Your dms had to be kind
- 34:27Speaker 2: of crazy after that, just people being like, bro, what
- 34:30Speaker 2: the fuck? Yeah?
- 34:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's sick crazy.
- 34:33Speaker 2: It's like, what's that show on that Nick Cannon's assuming
- 34:36Speaker 2: people don't know the voice under the suit?
- 34:38Speaker 1: And then I couldn't go back around the same people
- 34:41Speaker 1: no more for a minute. I have to like go
- 34:43Speaker 1: do my thing.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Yeah, are you guys any plans on uh going to
- 34:48Speaker 2: uh this GNX tour in Toronto?
- 34:51Speaker 1: I'm shore the mom in the city.
- 34:52Speaker 2: Go check it out. It's gonna be crazy. Yeah. Yeah.
- 34:55Speaker 2: Do you think he's anything to worry about out there?
- 34:57Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Yeah. You love GNX great? Yes, yes, sure, yeah he's
- 35:02Speaker 2: I think I think it's, in my opinion, his best
- 35:04Speaker 2: album right now that it's sat with me. Yeah. Are
- 35:07Speaker 2: you a big Kendrick guy?
- 35:09Speaker 1: Yeah? I have my favorites from him?
- 35:11Speaker 2: What you're like, because I feel like Kendrick has like
- 35:13Speaker 2: the critical ship, which is like to Pimp a Butterfly,
- 35:17Speaker 2: which is like, to me, like an art piece that
- 35:19Speaker 2: aged so well. Obviously good kid Mad City. But I
- 35:22Speaker 2: feel like gn X is like the Slaps in terms
- 35:25Speaker 2: of like replayability.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like every music has its place, you know, right,
- 35:29Speaker 1: Like like there's club records that I want to listen
- 35:32Speaker 1: to when you're in the club in the party mood,
- 35:33Speaker 1: but when I'm driving, I might listen to some nahs
- 35:36Speaker 1: just you know, or just like some Kendred Like it's
- 35:38Speaker 1: different even my music, like my last album, I don't
- 35:41Speaker 1: think it's a club album or a record type album.
- 35:44Speaker 1: It's just some shit you drive to late night's just
- 35:45Speaker 1: for the vibe.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Like what's the best Shrewman music for you? I'm gonna
- 35:48Speaker 2: say I'm gonna start at Taming Pala and Your Boy
- 35:50Speaker 2: the Weekend.
- 35:52Speaker 1: I'd say those are definitely good choices. Honestly, I'm not
- 35:55Speaker 1: even being biased me, you know what I'm saying. Do
- 35:58Speaker 1: you shreme out to your own shit? When I made
- 36:00Speaker 1: the song need You, which is a song about extasy
- 36:02Speaker 1: on my album and the ouch and everything, like we
- 36:05Speaker 1: literally did true but I don't repeat.
- 36:09Speaker 2: Yeah, I found this like there's a have you heard
- 36:11Speaker 2: of Mac DeMarco? No, So Mac de Marco is like
- 36:14Speaker 2: this like white dude, he kind of looks like Chris
- 36:17Speaker 2: but if you let himself go. But he's like this
- 36:20Speaker 2: white dude in all his music videos are like fucking
- 36:24Speaker 2: crazy bro like this fool's got like a dragon face
- 36:27Speaker 2: in one of them. But I feel like his whole
- 36:29Speaker 2: entire genre is like Mac de Marco. He's hardest fuck.
- 36:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna check it out.
- 36:34Speaker 2: Great psilocybin music. Yeah, if you're fucking ever, like in
- 36:38Speaker 2: a Coachella or Joshua Tree in a hot tub just
- 36:40Speaker 2: throwing some yep, that's it. Yeah, you'll love it. Due cool. Uh.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Any any new artists that you're fucking with, I feel
- 36:47Speaker 2: like you got your ear to the street. Youre always
- 36:48Speaker 2: work with new artists. Anybody you're you're rocking with right now?
- 36:51Speaker 1: New you know obviously the Destroyed, Lonely Ken, Carson net Spend,
- 36:55Speaker 1: you know what I mean, My boy John Ross put
- 36:57Speaker 1: me on, Put me on about that kid. Yeah, Like,
- 37:01Speaker 1: if you name somebody, I'll probably be like, yeah, right
- 37:03Speaker 1: now I'm drawing blanks. Anybody at LA name somebody. I
- 37:06Speaker 1: don't know.
- 37:06Speaker 2: So many people in LA. They're amazing.
- 37:08Speaker 1: Ship freaking O th Guiredo Britos a legend, you know,
- 37:14Speaker 1: the blast Beano the shortlight Mafia dudes, I actually the
- 37:20Speaker 1: short lines back together. Yeah, bum thing. I do it
- 37:22Speaker 1: a long time ago.
- 37:23Speaker 2: Oh g Z or Phoenix, oh.
- 37:24Speaker 1: G Z Vancouver, and there was like yo, this o
- 37:27Speaker 1: giz like he's in the club, like he's like besides
- 37:29Speaker 1: your section. That him, Like yeo, who cares? Then we
- 37:31Speaker 1: said what's up? And I was like, yo, guy's cool,
- 37:33Speaker 1: Like no, he's the best.
- 37:34Speaker 2: They're cool.
- 37:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:35Speaker 2: A lot of people like all time great hip hop
- 37:37Speaker 2: hair two had the same Like I told the other
- 37:41Speaker 2: I said, were you able to cut your hairs?
- 37:42Speaker 1: I seen him in the strip Cluver. Was that sounds
- 37:45Speaker 1: a bit deep as fun Sam's? Yeah, that's one thing.
- 37:48Speaker 1: I just seen him in the color Yo, great shot
- 37:51Speaker 1: like Mafia.
- 37:51Speaker 2: Have you had the hot wings and Sam's the hot
- 37:54Speaker 2: wings the chicken wings of Sam's. No, I don't really
- 37:56Speaker 2: like to eat in the strip clubs in LA really. Yeah.
- 37:59Speaker 1: I eat in the strip clubs like Houston, Atlanta.
- 38:01Speaker 2: The only one to eat at Sam's everything. You know
- 38:03Speaker 2: that if you always ordering food that I noticed it
- 38:05Speaker 2: is good. Foo, I'm gonna try it. But you're right,
- 38:08Speaker 2: I think your first inclination. Miami's got good food too,
- 38:10Speaker 2: if you go to Tutties and you get that fried lobster.
- 38:11Speaker 1: You know you got crazy food. They got the best.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Boobyock got crazy boo.
- 38:16Speaker 2: What's your favorite Miami strip club?
- 38:17Speaker 1: Boo Trap?
- 38:18Speaker 2: For different reasons.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Obviously, it's just how late it's opening. The vibe. It's
- 38:21Speaker 1: like a club. Yeah, don't it's like just perverted vibes.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Guys are sitting watching on the stage. Yeah, you'll get
- 38:27Speaker 1: a little bit that perverted exactly. Yes, I like the
