Latest / In the Loop AI / HUGE UPDATE: What's Happening With Our Show & What's Next
Transcript
- 0:00Josh: What's up, everybody? Welcome back to Limitless. You probably have some questions.
- 0:03Josh: It's been a little while.
- 0:04Josh: What has it been? Three weeks and two days, something like that.
- 0:07Josh: Not that we've been counting, but we have some updates. This is an update video
- 0:11Josh: letting you know what's been going on over the past few weeks,
- 0:13Josh: what will be going on over the next few weeks, months, and hopefully years.
- 0:18Josh: And as you can see, Vijay is right by my side. Things are good.
- 0:21Ejaaz: I don't know which side you are, Josh.
- 0:22Josh: All is well, yeah. I think, yeah, you're giving, wait, I'll give the hug,
- 0:26Josh: put the arm out. There we go. Yeah, there's our virtual hug.
- 0:30Josh: All is well. We have some updates. Ejaz, you want to fill people in about what's been going on
- 0:34Ejaaz: The last few weeks? Oh, what hasn't been going on?
- 0:37Josh: It's been excruciatingly painful. Listen, we miss you guys so much.
- 0:40Josh: And we see all the messages.
- 0:41Ejaaz: We have missed you guys. Yes. Can we talk about the messages, Josh?
- 0:45Ejaaz: The amount of people that have messaged me, and I'm sure it's been the case
- 0:49Ejaaz: for you as well, being like...
- 0:50Ejaaz: Have you and josh broken up like is everything good between you and josh just
- 0:54Ejaaz: to address the the rumors josh and i are very well i can still see him in his
- 0:59Ejaaz: window well actually there's a building that's obstructing his view but he's still we.
- 1:02Josh: Live right next to each other also and the messages the outpouring of messages
- 1:05Josh: has been so kind and so generous and it's really nice to to see the support from the people who have
- 1:10Ejaaz: Watched yes it has and okay so let's go through like a quick kind of i guess
- 1:17Ejaaz: list of things that have been happening um,
- 1:19Ejaaz: the first thing is we've been working on some stuff behind the scenes and what
- 1:24Ejaaz: that looks like is a new partnership that comes in the form of this company
- 1:29Ejaaz: that had been listening to us and we're actually fans of the show they've been
- 1:33Ejaaz: listening to us for about
- 1:34Ejaaz: three to four months and they kind of reached out they were like hey how can we
- 1:38Ejaaz: work with you you know you guys are looking for like sponsorship or like you
- 1:40Ejaaz: know you want to expand the show and build it on a bigger scale and so that's
- 1:43Ejaaz: what we've been working on behind the scenes.
- 1:45Ejaaz: And it's been excruciating not being able to talk about it with you guys and
- 1:49Ejaaz: figure out how to communicate with this and put out new episodes for you folks.
- 1:53Ejaaz: But we've finally reached a point where we're comfortable enough to do that.
- 1:56Ejaaz: And we're excited to be back on the show. So I guess update number one is Yahoo
- 2:02Ejaaz: Finance has agreed to work very closely to put out AI content to you.
- 2:07Ejaaz: We talk about all the headline news, trending topics, new releases,
- 2:11Ejaaz: new models, but there is also another update.
- 2:13Josh: Yes, when EJ says us, he means us a little more sparingly than normal. Because...
- 2:20Josh: As of now, this is going to be a different type of show where I will be less
- 2:24Josh: involved. And this is the part that breaks my heart.
- 2:27Josh: As this whole process was going on with Yahoo and we were figuring out how to
- 2:31Josh: transition, some of you who have been sleuthing around the internet realized
- 2:35Josh: that I also had a role at Anthropic as a contractor.
- 2:38Josh: I have decided to continue to pursue that and continue to work at Anthropic
- 2:43Josh: as a full-time job at a full-time capacity.
- 2:46Josh: And it's doing similar stuff to what we're doing here on the show.
- 2:49Josh: Oh, it's creating content. It's talking about AI. It's just doing so at the
- 2:53Josh: place that we talk about on all of our episodes. And it was really difficult.
- 2:58Josh: Ejaz and I, we worked through a lot of the logistics of what this would look
- 3:01Josh: like and just kind of making sure it was cool by everybody.
- 3:04Josh: So instead of me being the host of every episode, I will be involved much more
- 3:09Josh: sparingly. I'm here today. I will hopefully be dropping in every once in a while.
- 3:13Josh: But Ejaz is now going to be shepherding you through the singularity and beyond
- 3:18Josh: for all of these daily episodes.
- 3:20Josh: And like, I do have to just thank everyone for the support and just like being
- 3:25Josh: here today in general, listening to this episode, you guys, this is number two, three, four.
- 3:31Josh: We've recorded 234 episodes of the show, which is just like an unbelievable
- 3:36Josh: journey that we've gone on over the last, what has it been like 15, 16 months.
- 3:41Josh: And the support that we've garnered over the last year from all the people who
- 3:46Josh: just reached out over the last couple of weeks, concerned, wondering where we've
- 3:49Josh: been, missing their favorite daily show.
- 3:51Josh: It's been so nice and just really sweet to...
- 3:56Josh: To feel the, I guess, like compassion from the audience that we've,
- 3:59Josh: we've built the community that we have and like miss you.
- 4:03Josh: We'll miss you, but we'll continue to provide content on a regular basis through
- 4:08Josh: our pal over here, Ejaz, who is now, I will say much more resourced.
- 4:11Josh: Ejaz will be in a studio filming a real show, um, and doing so at a regular cadence.
- 4:18Josh: So it's yeah, kind of a weird, weird, big change, tough change to talk about.
- 4:22Ejaaz: It's huge.
- 4:23Josh: But, um, but like a new, a new chapter a new era for for both of us
- 4:28Ejaaz: I want to address the you moving on to anthropic because it's kind of like going through a breakup josh i
- 4:35Ejaaz: i i told you this like the pit in my stomach definitely reassures dude i i was
- 4:39Ejaaz: like like we've been friends for so long and like we started this show literally in our bedrooms
- 4:44Ejaaz: stemming from conversations that we had offline before we ever sat in front
- 4:47Ejaaz: of a camera and so dude it's like extremely bittersweet and i've i've said all
- 4:52Ejaaz: of this to you off camera but like,
- 4:54Ejaaz: gonna miss you man like seriously like it's and we have like had
- 4:57Ejaaz: the most funnest times i've had the most funnest times ever on this show and
- 5:01Ejaaz: i'd be lying if i said that like you know um the new version would be would
- 5:04Ejaaz: ever feel the same um i don't think we can ever replace you but the intention of
- 5:10Ejaaz: the new version of this show is
- 5:12Ejaaz: that we maintain that core kind of like dna um and and that's you know it's
- 5:16Ejaaz: going to be me for now and i'm going to try my hardest to meet the very high
- 5:20Ejaaz: bar that we, you and I set on this show so far.
- 5:24Ejaaz: And hopefully, hopefully bring the type of content and insights and sometimes
- 5:31Ejaaz: very unhinged takes that you guys have been used to listening to.
- 5:35Ejaaz: And I want to emphasize the point that you just made, Josh, which is like the.
- 5:39Ejaaz: Loyalty and outpour of support that we've seen from you folks just over the
- 5:44Ejaaz: last couple of weeks has been insane.
- 5:46Ejaaz: You said it was three weeks, Josh. It has felt like three months.
- 5:50Ejaaz: I don't know about you, but like, it has felt like an eternity.
- 5:53Ejaaz: And there have been times where I'm like, I get these DMs and I'm like,
- 5:56Ejaaz: I really want to explain what's going on, but like I can't. And it's this really
- 6:00Ejaaz: difficult thing where we're still trying to work through some operational challenges.
- 6:02Ejaaz: But yeah, like it's going to be a new version of the show and I'm super excited to do it.
- 6:08Ejaaz: I hope you guys will join me and us and producer Luke, who's still behind the
- 6:13Ejaaz: scenes, joining us on this new thing forwards as we kind of put out more content
- 6:16Ejaaz: and capture the frontier.
- 6:18Ejaaz: But the cool part is we've always said on this show, we've always kind of been
- 6:22Ejaaz: like this armchair critic or this armchair expert that has been yapping at you
- 6:26Ejaaz: guys, it'll be nice to have an official.
- 6:30Ejaaz: Subject matter expert in the form of Josh appear on the show every now and again.
- 6:35Ejaaz: In the arena, letting us know all the latest and greatest of what's going on
- 6:38Ejaaz: at one of the top research labs in the world, which is awesome to see.
- 6:43Ejaaz: The other thing I'll say is,
- 6:44Ejaaz: In this new partnership, it's very important that we maintain the core DNA of
- 6:49Ejaaz: this show, which has ended up being me, us, Luke, producer Luke,
- 6:54Ejaaz: and all the creative kind of aspects that come with that.
- 6:56Ejaaz: And I just want to emphasize that that is exactly what it's going to be.
- 6:59Ejaaz: We're going to try and maintain that high bar that we set between the two of
- 7:03Ejaaz: us and put out content that hopefully you guys enjoy. So you guys are very key and important here.
- 7:09Ejaaz: We don't have any restrictions. We can make whatever type of episode or show
- 7:12Ejaaz: that we want, and we take a lot feedback seriously so we hope you guys will
- 7:15Ejaaz: join us on that journey um and i'm super excited by it albeit a little upset
- 7:21Ejaaz: um that josh is moving on but i'm super pumped for you dude.
- 7:23Josh: Yeah i want to explain a little more context but i also want to share the lore
- 7:26Josh: of limitless because i don't think a lot of people know behind the scenes what
- 7:29Josh: actually goes on how big is the team how we get things done like everything that you see
- 7:34Josh: in limitless is done by three people and two of them are on screen right now
- 7:37Josh: we have a very small team we have a very lean team that pumps out four episodes
- 7:41Josh: a week and it's myself ejaz and producer luke who edits all the videos um luke is
- 7:47Josh: graciously going with ejaz to yahoo to continue that side of things and then
- 7:51Josh: i want to explain just a little bit of the thinking behind it because i feel
- 7:55Josh: like i do owe it to the people to just like share what
- 7:57Josh: What happened here so it's like the dream for me has there's been two parallel
- 8:01Josh: dreams which is one creating content to being at the frontier of technology
- 8:04Josh: all the things that we love all the things that we do um and then these two
- 8:07Josh: opportunities kind of happens within a few months of each other simultaneously
- 8:11Josh: one was to talk about the thing the other was to talk about the thing while building the thing and
- 8:16Josh: it feels like such a rare opportunity to contribute to a frontier lab in a meaningful
- 8:21Josh: way doing like what i'm responsible for is a lot of the content creation and
- 8:25Josh: the social channels and distributing videos and i'll be on a bunch of videos over there
- 8:30Josh: and it seemed like an opportunity that i could contribute as a non-technical
- 8:34Josh: person in a meaningful way that can make a difference and that to me was really
- 8:37Josh: important to to give it a try and see it through. And
- 8:41Josh: We chatted about it. I have all the faith in the world that after 234 reps,
- 8:45Josh: you're pretty good at this thing.
- 8:47Josh: And I think we're both pretty good at this thing. And the product will not die
- 8:51Josh: as a result. It will just look a little bit different. And I think that is okay.
- 8:55Josh: And we'll both still be creating content in our own worlds. And we'll both sync up when it makes sense.
- 8:59Josh: And I think that's like going to be, that's the explanation.
- 9:02Josh: At least that's kind of the reasoning and the thinking behind it.
- 9:05Josh: It's going to be weird though. and it's different because we dude so much has
- 9:08Josh: changed since we recorded episode one like episode one i think was may 17th
- 9:15Josh: 2025 something around there i think it was sean mcguire as the guest
- 9:20Josh: I remember, like, I was going through a few of our episodes,
- 9:23Josh: particularly the new model launch demo episodes that I was, like,
- 9:26Josh: clicking through just to see.
- 9:27Josh: And I remember not even, what was it, like, eight or nine months ago,
- 9:32Josh: we were stoked just to have, like, a little sprite on screen running through
- 9:35Josh: a 3D world. Oh, my God. And that was, like, the coolest demo in the world.
- 9:39Josh: Like, we couldn't believe it. We posted a short about it. The short went viral.
- 9:42Josh: It was, like, our best performing short ever because, holy crap,
- 9:44Josh: you can prompt a model to make, like, a game.
- 9:47Josh: And fast forward to today it's like dude if you if you prompt a model you'll
- 9:51Josh: get like you're getting like call
- 9:52Josh: of duty now in one prompt it is like a full-blown triple a game in fact
- 9:56Josh: i was going to ask you if you've been interested about any topics recently because
- 10:00Josh: one of the things that i got one-shotted with recently was um the reverse compiling
- 10:06Josh: of games i don't know if you've seen this on x
- 10:08Josh: but like as an avid gamer myself i've loved gaming since the beginning of time
- 10:12Josh: i still play every day i got my controller right here on my desk it doesn't leave my side um
- 10:17Josh: people who've been using these ai models the more recent frontier ones they've
- 10:21Josh: been reverse compiling these games back to their source code rebuilding them
- 10:25Josh: in a different language to bypass the ip laws and then just allowing you to
- 10:29Josh: play them and remix them together
- 10:30Josh: i found this so unbelievable that you can have like portal 2 with call of duty
- 10:35Josh: zombies in one or i saw like tiger woods driving like a car through like
- 10:41Josh: A Zelda map and I saw like a chess game mixed with like Link and there's been
- 10:47Josh: so many of these remixes.
- 10:48Josh: People are jailbreaking PS5s
- 10:50Josh: now like on a regular basis. You can play any game you want for free and
- 10:53Josh: i was just telling ejes before i started this that i was recording a video um
- 10:57Josh: was getting ready to publish it and i had the the model edit the video for me overnight generate the
- 11:03Josh: animations make the cuts do the sound design and it's like the progress that
- 11:07Josh: we've had from episode one to now has been staggering and i think we could both
- 11:10Josh: agree that the rate of progress is still that vertical curve so
- 11:15Josh: i don't know what the hell is gonna happen the next few months but like dude
- 11:18Josh: it's gonna be busy like you might need six seven eight nine ten episodes a week to cover all this
- 11:22Ejaaz: Stuff or maybe i just need six seven eight nine ten versions of me to cover
- 11:27Ejaaz: all of this and people can guess kind of like what the ai generated version
- 11:29Ejaaz: of it because the video models are also getting super freaky.
- 11:32Josh: Did you see the new 11
- 11:33Ejaaz: Labs i don't know whether it was the 11 labs thing but it was this product from
- 11:37Ejaaz: tavis did you see this where it's like oh no a zoom call okay so there's this video
- 11:42Ejaaz: of this guy sitting down and he's having a zoom call with one of his colleagues
- 11:46Ejaaz: and they're talking about how they should like release like the announcement
- 11:49Ejaaz: of their product and she just goes,
- 11:53Ejaaz: well maybe we should just record us speaking as like the video oh my god yes
- 11:57Ejaaz: i saw this and then he goes yes do you think people will understand that you're ai and she goes,
- 12:03Ejaaz: it doesn't matter if they do or they don't like that's just and she had the
- 12:07Ejaaz: thickest scottish accent ever and her facial expressions were like very human-like
- 12:12Ejaaz: and she could see everything he could see so,
- 12:14Ejaaz: the joke i guess here is that like ai has accelerated so quickly since we started
- 12:19Ejaaz: the show i distinctly remember josh doing an entire episode i don't know if you remember this.
- 12:24Ejaaz: Comparing the personality of how the different models sounded.
- 12:29Ejaaz: Do you remember that? Where like Grok, the first version of Grok was basically
- 12:33Ejaaz: like extremely brash. And then you had GPT-4-0, extremely sycophantic,
- 12:39Ejaaz: agreeing with everything and we couldn't stand the thing.
- 12:41Ejaaz: And then we had Claude that was just like, just starting their ascent to fame
- 12:48Ejaaz: at that point where it was like, oh, this sounds actually smart and very reasonable.
- 12:51Ejaaz: And we should start using this model more. And I remember that resurgence fast
- 12:55Ejaaz: forward to today where now i am kind of using these models in an increasing
- 13:01Ejaaz: amount of tasks and just surface area of my life josh like,
- 13:05Ejaaz: recently um you asked me what i got excited about i've been obsessed with muse
- 13:10Ejaaz: meta's new personal super intelligence when.
- 13:12Josh: It came out i was like why can we not film an episode about this immediately
- 13:15Ejaaz: It's so sick it's.
- 13:17Josh: They beat johnny i have an open hair out of the punch they got the device out
- 13:20Ejaaz: How did zuck do that well i I guess, like, Zuck has built one of,
- 13:23Ejaaz: like, the largest, most successful social media suite of products ever,
- 13:28Ejaaz: right? Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, yada, yada.
- 13:30Ejaaz: And so he has all this data as to, like, you know, how people act,
- 13:34Ejaaz: what they want to buy, and he can help bridge that gap between them.
- 13:37Ejaaz: So using Muse, guys, if you haven't used this, and maybe we should make,
- 13:41Ejaaz: like, an entire episode about this as kind of, like, one of our comeback episodes,
- 13:44Ejaaz: but it's, like, it is so good and easy to use.
- 13:48Ejaaz: And the greatest part about this is there's so much competition popping up now.
- 13:51Ejaaz: You've got OpenAI last week releasing their version of this called Dots.
- 13:55Ejaaz: You've got Grok from Elon Musk, GrokBots, working more on like the...
- 14:01Ejaaz: Knowledge work side of things but this era of personal agents is something that
- 14:05Ejaaz: i'm very excited about because sometimes the model releases are now happening so frequently that i
- 14:10Ejaaz: don't know about you josh especially as you're working at anthropic but like
- 14:12Ejaaz: you kind of lose track of all the updates and like there's so many things going
- 14:15Ejaaz: on at once and you don't quite know
- 14:17Ejaaz: what model to use and when it's materially good for you and these personal agents
- 14:22Ejaaz: kind of act as the new medium the new layer honestly feels like javas dude i
- 14:26Ejaaz: was playing around or rather i was watching demos of,
- 14:30Ejaaz: OpenAI's new ultra mode or ultra fast mode where it spits out like 300 tokens per second.
- 14:36Josh: And so, X the cost.
- 14:38Ejaaz: Dude, yeah, 500 bucks because thank you, Jane Street, for dragging up the prices.
- 14:41Ejaaz: But they just like, the demo was of this guy not touching a single keyboard
- 14:47Ejaaz: and just kind of talking to his AI agent.
- 14:49Ejaaz: And when he would ask for a product, it would just appear in milliseconds in front of him.
- 14:54Ejaaz: So I just, when I compare this to episode one, I'm just like,
- 14:57Ejaaz: we have come so far. You and I have learned so much. And I honestly don't know
- 15:02Ejaaz: where all of this goes. It's just crazy.
- 15:05Josh: It probably just goes faster. I remember like the first time I was ever on Bankless,
- 15:11Josh: I spent so many hours trying to figure out like the best intro.
- 15:14Josh: And the intro was just like everything around us. It was a Steve Jobs quote,
- 15:17Josh: actually, which was like everything around us is made up of people no smarter than us.
- 15:20Josh: What happens when they are smarter than us? And we are like right on the cusp
- 15:25Josh: of that reality happening.
- 15:27Josh: And i believe the downstream effects of intelligence smarter than we are is like
- 15:32Josh: still near incomprehensible in terms of how it plays out but i think
- 15:36Josh: there is a high level of certainty that it's here and if it's not here it is
- 15:40Josh: like very imminent and it is happening this year um or next year and it's really
- 15:46Josh: remarkable just to see the acceleration of progress and to your point it's like
- 15:50Josh: i think the average model launch the the time was like weeks last year and now
- 15:55Josh: we're down to like 10 days or something like that and i'm sure that's just going to compress
- 15:59Josh: i'm really excited about the personal agent era i think having a personal assistant
- 16:05Josh: giving it a hardware embodiment whether it be through musa's device the open
- 16:09Josh: ai device that we're getting later this year that like
- 16:12Josh: dude whenever that happens we need we got to chat like when we finally solve
- 16:15Ejaaz: This let's go we've.
- 16:18Josh: Got to chat about that one because like oh man that's coming
- 16:21Josh: And it's this whole new paradigm where it's like this weird asymmetry, right?
- 16:25Josh: It's like there's been remarkable amounts of acceleration on the frontier,
- 16:28Josh: but then there has been a much more limited amount of,
- 16:32Josh: I guess, absorption from the general public where there are more users for ChatGPT
- 16:37Josh: today than there were last year, but not by the amount in which the intelligence has improved.
- 16:42Josh: So I think that we're at this now with this weird place where the rate of acceleration
- 16:47Josh: increases, but the rate of adoption is still a lagging metric.
- 16:50Josh: And i think like one of the most important problems is solving that lagging
- 16:54Josh: metric and that's done by all the people watching the show you got to tell your friends about
- 16:58Josh: what's going on how to use it how you use ai like what are you using your personal
- 17:02Josh: assistant for your grok bot your your dot from open ai whatever it may be um
- 17:06Josh: i think that's like a really important paradigm shift and then the sheer amount
- 17:09Josh: of intelligence man science biology
- 17:12Josh: if you could break down those things into quantifiable math like
- 17:15Josh: math seems close to solved right it's like we're solving all these impossible millennium problems
- 17:19Josh: um that probably creates a really interesting place in the next 12 months where
- 17:24Josh: it's like wow what if you can actually solve biology by breaking it down to
- 17:28Josh: numbers and then figuring it out using
- 17:31Josh: large language models like that seems kind of cool there's just so much stuff
- 17:34Josh: that's going to happen and it feels like this the stake not the stakes but like
- 17:38Josh: the importance of it gets larger it's like oh my god not only can it write your
- 17:42Josh: essays and like do your work but also it could save your life and i think i'm
- 17:45Josh: excited for like that jump to
- 17:48Josh: Oh, I don't want to use AI. It's scary to, oh my God, AI created this thing that saved my life.
- 17:53Josh: And that's like a really cool thing. So I'm hopeful that we get that next year.
- 17:57Josh: And like, therefore we get a sentiment shift around AI as a whole,
- 18:01Josh: which is generally been mixed as we've done this thing.
- 18:03Josh: In fact, I will say you just, when we started, people were a lot more favorable
- 18:06Josh: towards it than they are today. So I think there has been this like backwards
- 18:09Josh: momentum that hopefully will shift forward sometime soon.
- 18:13Ejaaz: Yeah, you're right. There's, there's been this sort of like doomerism that has
- 18:17Ejaaz: taken over especially with like all the frontier labs calling to kind of like
- 18:21Ejaaz: slow things down with all these like crazy ai agent hacks but
- 18:24Ejaaz: i think very little time is spent on pushing out all the positive advances that
- 18:29Ejaaz: we're making to your point i do think,
- 18:33Ejaaz: the gap between what's happening on the bleeding edge of the frontier like for
- 18:37Ejaaz: example what's happening anthropic opening and all these frontier labs versus
- 18:40Ejaaz: what the majority 99.9% of people actually understand is widening.
- 18:46Ejaaz: It hasn't gotten any closer. And when I think back to starting this show,
- 18:50Ejaaz: that was kind of the reason why we started it.
- 18:53Ejaaz: Because you and I were trying to figure all of this out. We were trying to unpack it ourselves.
- 18:56Ejaaz: We were looking for feedback. We were looking for an audience to kind of like
- 18:59Ejaaz: give us that feedback. So we were like, let's just film this show.
- 19:02Ejaaz: And that's the kind of like full intent of this show going forwards as well.
- 19:05Ejaaz: It's like kind of like trying to unpack the craziness that's going on.
- 19:08Ejaaz: Stuff that I'm excited about is, well, as a former biologist,
- 19:11Ejaaz: I will say on your point around moving from this world of software and just chatbots to,
- 19:18Ejaaz: physical wetware. And I know Anthropic is actually, you know,
- 19:21Ejaaz: working on like a biology lab that has advancements by robotics and,
- 19:26Ejaaz: you know, you can plug in cord and you can run a bunch of experiments physically, autonomously.
- 19:30Ejaaz: I know it's in those early stages. Like seeing more of that,
- 19:33Ejaaz: like Demis Fasibis is kind of like stepped down from his chief of AI role at
- 19:37Ejaaz: Google and is working on the same thing at, what is the name of his lab?
- 19:40Ejaaz: Isometric Labs or something like that?
- 19:42Josh: That sounds right.
- 19:43Ejaaz: Yeah, just seeing that come into real life, especially with robotics,
- 19:47Ejaaz: is going to be such a major trend and theme of 2027, in my opinion.
- 19:52Ejaaz: But there's also a case around fear, like people are worried that we are accelerating
- 19:59Ejaaz: too fast, and we need to build this in as constructive a manner as we can.
- 20:04Ejaaz: So the same tools that can be used to build all this amazing innovation,
- 20:08Ejaaz: solve math, solve physics, and build the cure for cancer can't also be used
- 20:13Ejaaz: for more malicious types of stuff.
- 20:14Ejaaz: And I think it's a very reasonable shout. And I think for those folks who are
- 20:17Ejaaz: worried about that, you have a right to be worried about those things.
- 20:20Ejaaz: But I guess the case that you and I have always tried to make on the show is
- 20:23Ejaaz: that it is way more optimistic than mainstream headlines make it out to be.
- 20:28Ejaaz: And it's our kind of like goal to kind of like, you know, I guess,
- 20:31Ejaaz: explain why that's the case.
- 20:34Ejaaz: I'm excited about the robotics stuff, dude. I was looking at,
- 20:38Ejaaz: what was it? There was an announcement from Brett Adcock. So he runs FIGA,
- 20:43Ejaaz: which is the US robotics lab, one of the leading robotics labs here in the US.
- 20:47Ejaaz: And they're announcing like their new personal agent called Hark.
- 20:50Ejaaz: I was, I got access to it. I was playing around with it last night. It's pretty cool.
- 20:54Ejaaz: But like, I don't know when this episode releases. Hopefully it's out by then.
- 20:57Ejaaz: I think it's releasing today or yesterday, depending on when you hit this episode.
- 21:01Ejaaz: Like we see hardware and software kind of like really merging together.
- 21:05Ejaaz: We see models iteratively being produced faster and faster.
- 21:09Ejaaz: Dude, the compute capex spend, do you remember like our first episode about
- 21:13Ejaaz: this where we were like, these billions and billions of dollars is a big number.
- 21:19Josh: Remember when it was billions?
- 21:20Ejaaz: Remember when it was billions? And then we have.
- 21:23Josh: Like kind of
- 21:23Ejaaz: These leaks, rumors, and like actual real figures from some of the biggest companies
- 21:28Ejaaz: in the world. I think between Google, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft,
- 21:32Ejaaz: and Oracle combined, they're spending upwards of $800 billion just next year.
- 21:37Ejaaz: Over the next 12 months, we see the price of memory still skyrocketing,
- 21:41Ejaaz: even though the last time we spoke about it was about a month and a half ago,
- 21:44Ejaaz: and we were like, oh, this might be the top.
- 21:46Ejaaz: Prices are still going up. Demand is still soaring. AMD CPUs with this new AI agent stuff is crazy.
- 21:52Ejaaz: It's hard to get my head around it because every time I think I'm being honestly
- 21:56Ejaaz: a little too optimistic about this stuff, and I'm trying to ground myself,
- 21:59Ejaaz: I'm like, but the numbers are telling me a completely different story.
- 22:03Ejaaz: I don't know about, as you can tell.
- 22:05Josh: It's not driven by debt. It's driven by revenue. And I think that's a big difference.
- 22:09Josh: And it's driven by like real value that's being delivered to the world.
- 22:12Josh: And like to your point about people disliking AI, I think like one of the most
- 22:17Josh: compelling arguments for it is that like almost all the problems that we face
- 22:21Josh: today are matters or like are downstream of a lack of intelligence or a lack of understanding.
- 22:27Josh: Like the reason why we get unhealthy is because we don't understand what makes
- 22:30Josh: us unhealthy. The reason why we can't build amazing structures and buildings
- 22:35Josh: and infrastructure quickly is because we don't have the materials,
- 22:38Josh: we don't have the manufacturing.
- 22:39Josh: It's all kind of downstream of increased knowledge. And as we as a society have
- 22:43Josh: gotten smarter historically, we have unlocked new technology like the internet,
- 22:47Josh: also like the nuclear weapon.
- 22:49Josh: Both of those things are good and bad. They have both upside and downside,
- 22:53Josh: but the net net of all of this technology, technological progress is that the
- 22:57Josh: quality of life of the average person is far better today than it was for the
- 23:01Josh: wealthiest person in the world, even a hundred years ago.
- 23:04Josh: And I see no reason in which that should change. In fact, it should accelerate
- 23:08Josh: even more so in terms of volatility. Sure, because there's a lot of uncertainty.
- 23:12Josh: There's a lot of change. Change is difficult to manage.
- 23:14Josh: But on the other side of that, it's, well, now we have intelligence that not
- 23:19Josh: only could we figure out, but we could use this artificial version that's smarter
- 23:23Josh: than us, that could think for
- 23:25Josh: Millennium worth of time in like a couple of days to solve these problems that
- 23:29Josh: we could then take and use to improve our life so i think that's a really cool
- 23:33Josh: really exciting thing to think about is like
- 23:35Josh: every problem is downstream of a lack of intelligence we are now able to generate
- 23:39Josh: intelligence at the cost per per watt per like ray of sunshine on the planet
- 23:45Josh: we can convert that ray of sunshine into thought and like that's such a brilliant thing and i think
- 23:50Josh: the back half what comes on the the backside of that it's just this like unbelievable
- 23:56Josh: new future that does things that like we can't even imagine and this is the
- 23:59Josh: early stages it's like i have to keep reminding myself how fast this has gone
- 24:03Josh: this still is like day one it's like oh remember the internet when you had like
- 24:07Josh: dial up connection and you had to like type onto like a message board and it
- 24:09Josh: was just text and then you got video and it's like
- 24:12Josh: this feels like that time and there's so many downstream effects this is a wave
- 24:15Josh: that is never gonna end there's
- 24:17Josh: there's like only ever gonna be a need to record more of these episodes because
- 24:21Josh: there's just going to be so much stuff happening.
- 24:22Josh: And I think like it's there's it's very easy to have a pessimistic view and
- 24:27Josh: to join these groups of people to feel as if you are
- 24:32Josh: Part of something special but i think the more interesting
- 24:36Josh: place to be is joining the groups who are focused on making the change happen
- 24:41Josh: so like you don't need to sit there and yell on the internet you can go and
- 24:44Josh: like get in the arena and do the thing and i find that once you start doing the thing it's like
- 24:49Josh: people start to realize like oh my god wait this is actually pretty amazing
- 24:52Josh: um and this is unbelievable technology and
- 24:55Josh: this is a really exciting future man it's just gonna to get crazier it's like
- 24:58Josh: so fast the the curve is straight vertical and it shows no signs of slowing down
- 25:03Josh: and my god what a fun journey it's been and like what a crazy journey it's going
- 25:07Josh: to continue to be over the next few like days
- 25:11Josh: weeks months year like it doesn't stop and oh it just gets me really excited
- 25:15Josh: for for the future and all the cool stuff that's coming from it
- 25:18Ejaaz: I saw this crazy stat from i think it was the a16z team two days ago where um,
- 25:24Ejaaz: they talked about like ai penetration across like the entirety of the US or
- 25:27Ejaaz: US households in general.
- 25:29Ejaaz: And the number was like 2% in terms of like power users that had used AI chatbots
- 25:34Ejaaz: beyond just like an average Google search.
- 25:36Ejaaz: And honestly, it's something that I believe when you kind of like step out of
- 25:39Ejaaz: like the Twitter bubble.
- 25:41Ejaaz: And when you speak to people that are kind of like just doing kind of normal nine to five
- 25:45Ejaaz: jobs, they've heard of the AI thing, but they have by no means kind of like
- 25:49Ejaaz: downloaded or use an open source model or used one of these personal agents
- 25:53Ejaaz: or understood like what you could potentially use these different tools for
- 25:58Ejaaz: beyond just kind of like a chatbot.
- 26:00Ejaaz: And that just gives me so much hope towards...
- 26:03Ejaaz: Productivity of humanity and where we're kind of like moving towards in terms of like,
- 26:07Ejaaz: inventing brand new things like when i think back to kind of like history in general,
- 26:13Ejaaz: the craziest or the hardest challenge that humanity has always faced is,
- 26:18Ejaaz: how do we invent a solution towards some kind of a problem and to your earlier point
- 26:23Ejaaz: with ai the idea here is is you can just kind of apply it blanket to anything
- 26:28Ejaaz: and every kind of problem and whether
- 26:29Ejaaz: it's physical or software it will eventually be able to figure it out.
- 26:33Ejaaz: About six months ago, that was crazy for anyone to kind of like conceive of,
- 26:38Ejaaz: bar maybe like a couple thousand people in the world.
- 26:41Ejaaz: And now you have an internal model that was trained for, I think it was 11 days
- 26:45Ejaaz: at OpenAI, that has reportedly solved hundreds and hundreds of open standard math problems.
- 26:51Ejaaz: And now mathematicians are kind of scratching their heads thinking,
- 26:54Ejaaz: Okay, one, how do we feel about this? Because we've just dedicated our entire
- 26:58Ejaaz: lives to figuring this out. Number two, how do we understand what the solutions
- 27:01Ejaaz: are? Josh, I don't know if you, remember we covered the whole Navier-Stokes
- 27:05Ejaaz: thing like back in the day, right? Back in the day, it was like three weeks ago.
- 27:09Josh: A month ago.
- 27:10Ejaaz: Navier-Stokes was like this millennium problem. There's like seven of them.
- 27:13Ejaaz: And if you solve it, you get like a million dollars. OpenAI figured it out with,
- 27:16Ejaaz: you know, one of their internal models.
- 27:18Ejaaz: Mathematicians still haven't been able to go through the solution that they
- 27:22Ejaaz: created, that the model created, because it's so hard for them to kind of wrap
- 27:26Ejaaz: their heads around. So it's like this weird thing where it's like,
- 27:28Ejaaz: okay, maybe the humans don't check the work of the AI. Maybe it's another AI.
- 27:32Ejaaz: And I think the fear that comes from that is like, well, AI is just going to
- 27:36Ejaaz: automate a bunch of our cognitive load.
- 27:37Ejaaz: And I think the important part about this technology is it should be used as
- 27:43Ejaaz: a tool very much in the same way
- 27:44Ejaaz: that the internet has benefited so many people by being used as a tool.
- 27:48Ejaaz: If you use AI as kind of like a thought partner, as something to make you smarter
- 27:52Ejaaz: and teach you different things, you could actually end up having the opposite
- 27:55Ejaaz: effect where you just become a way smarter, way more productive version of yourself
- 27:58Ejaaz: in a very short period of time.
- 28:00Ejaaz: And I hope that's what kind of like the show and the stuff that we talk about
- 28:03Ejaaz: inspires. That's what inspires me, at least. I know that's what inspires you,
- 28:07Ejaaz: Josh. So yeah, I think that's basically it. Is there anything.
- 28:10Josh: Else to catch folks up on? I mean, yeah, it's just like AI, AI is a means to
- 28:14Josh: asking better questions.
- 28:15Josh: And right now it's solving our existing questions. But man, how cool is it going
- 28:18Josh: to be when it starts to ask
- 28:20Josh: more interesting questions that we can't comprehend, that unlock all the secrets
- 28:23Josh: of our universe it seems like a reality that's coming i read a lot of sci-fi
- 28:27Josh: which helps kind of synthesize what this is like
- 28:29Josh: asimov has the last question which i think it's a short story everyone should
- 28:32Josh: go read and it's about the idea of asking better questions until eventually
- 28:37Josh: the world just reaches the heat death of the universe and like everything is
- 28:41Josh: a form of intelligence there are two camps you can choose to be the pessimist
- 28:44Josh: you can choose to be part of belonging of like this like armchair critic or you can choose to like
- 28:49Josh: take the more noble side, I think, and fight the good fight and see how this
- 28:53Josh: can actually change the world for the better. And that's what I would encourage
- 28:56Josh: everyone to do. I did want to leave with some thank yous because they are in
- 29:00Josh: order. This has been one hell of a journey.
- 29:02Josh: I first, Ejaz, co-host number one right here, could not have done this,
- 29:06Josh: all these episodes without you. So that like, oh my God, what a run it's been, what a run it will be.
- 29:12Josh: I'm so excited to continue to do this, to continue to hang out.
- 29:15Josh: We're still good, everyone.
- 29:16Josh: We live right next to each other we're neighbors he can't even if he wants to
- 29:19Josh: love you too man for better or worse we're doing the damn thing you broke my house
- 29:23Ejaaz: Yeah yeah we're good.
- 29:25Josh: Yeah and like to luke the producer who made all these episodes possible that
- 29:29Josh: dude edited so many episodes he could probably do it with his eyes closed he
- 29:32Josh: is the reason why we look so good on camera the reason why we say things that make sense he is the like
- 29:38Josh: the reference check for all the crazy ideas that happen in our head it's like
- 29:41Josh: no you cannot do this yes you should do this and it's oftentimes right and i
- 29:45Josh: trust him with deciding the topics for so many of these episodes.
- 29:48Josh: So many are gaveled by him.
- 29:49Josh: We like, Edith and I will both have an idea. Luke's like, we should do this
- 29:52Josh: one. We're like, you know what? I think you're right.
- 29:54Josh: He's like totally pivotal. We'll still continue to be involved and we'll still,
- 29:58Josh: you'll see his like hand pushing on this. There'll be a lot of similar themes
- 30:00Josh: and that'll be Luke in the background to Ryan and David, the bankless guys.
- 30:05Josh: They're the reason why this happened in the first place, particularly David,
- 30:08Josh: who took the bet to say like, hey, do you want to do this podcast thing?
- 30:11Josh: Like, I think you're pretty good at it. I think we can make something special.
- 30:15Josh: He believed in our ability to make this podcast and he was right.
- 30:18Josh: And I feel so much just like eternally kind of grateful for,
- 30:22Josh: for him, for believing in us, for allowing this to exist, for creating this
- 30:25Josh: entity that we now call like limitless and the show that we have and without
- 30:30Josh: his support throughout, like overwhelming levels of support, even
- 30:34Josh: against my resistance against it was like so critical. It's making this happen.
- 30:38Josh: And then one, one final shout out, which I have to make because we've published 234 episodes.
- 30:45Josh: And that is a tremendous amount of listening. And I don't know if anyone has
- 30:49Josh: listened to every single one, ourselves included, except for one person.
- 30:54Josh: My dad has listened to 234 of these episodes, every single word of every single one,
- 31:00Ejaaz: Which is just like this.
- 31:02Josh: Unbelievable feat and certainly supporter number one.
- 31:06Josh: So thank you for listening to all these episodes and yeah it's just the last
- 31:10Josh: one i guess is the people it's all the people that have been here for like
- 31:13Josh: an eternity for supporting us for making this happen for giving us the platform
- 31:17Josh: to be able to talk about this cool stuff every single day and you just like
- 31:21Josh: you mentioned this is not the end this is the beginning of a new era and
- 31:25Josh: i'm so excited for what that new era holds because if you thought the last 16
- 31:29Josh: 17 months were crazy like oh buddy buckle up for the next one so for all the
- 31:34Josh: people who have been here commenting
- 31:37Josh: every single episode. You show up every single day, four days a week,
- 31:40Josh: soon to be five days a week, and watch these episodes, engage with us,
- 31:44Josh: follow along with us. Like, oh my God, a tremendous amount of gratitude for all of you.
- 31:50Josh: One of the things that we've been in awe about for so long is just the quality
- 31:53Josh: of our comment section. Ejaz, we talk about this every day.
- 31:56Josh: We have the most thoughtful and interesting and productive comment section,
- 32:01Josh: I think, on the whole internet. I've been doing the same thing for a while. We have
- 32:03Ejaaz: The best side of YouTube by far i don't know how you guys found us but thank you.
- 32:08Josh: So like seriously from the bottom of my heart thank you for making it exciting
- 32:12Josh: for us there's a world in which
- 32:14Josh: we get the doomer people in the comments and they hate everything and it just
- 32:17Josh: becomes this hard thing to do but it's so motivating waking up and seeing the
- 32:20Josh: support every day and that has been so critically important to to making this
- 32:24Josh: into the thing that it is today and
- 32:27Josh: that is that is the the thanks i feel really just like
- 32:30Josh: grateful for the run, excited for where it goes next. And...
- 32:35Josh: Man, what a freaking journey, dude. It's been, it's been like absolutely insane.
- 32:39Ejaaz: It's amazing. And I'm going to miss you now. That's like, there's no other way to put it.
- 32:45Ejaaz: We are going to miss you, but you're always welcome back to the show whenever
- 32:48Ejaaz: you want to come in and be our armchair expert.
- 32:51Ejaaz: And let us know about, you know, future model releases that we can break maybe
- 32:54Ejaaz: before anything comes out.
- 32:56Ejaaz: But, you know, it's, I'm excited about this new version of the show.
- 33:00Ejaaz: And I'm excited to most importantly, keep bringing new folks content.
- 33:04Ejaaz: It has killed me it has killed us not being able to put out an episode for so long,
- 33:10Ejaaz: but we're back baby and hopefully you enjoy this new version of the show and
- 33:16Ejaaz: you keep giving us feedback as has been so constructive if not just thankful
- 33:22Ejaaz: in the comments section please keep liking if you aren't subscribed please subscribe
- 33:25Ejaaz: turn on notifications that helps us out massively we are still on all the same channels
- 33:30Ejaaz: that you are typically used to,
- 33:33Ejaaz: if you are not subscribed or giving us a rating on Spotify, Apple Music or wherever
- 33:36Ejaaz: you listen, please do so as well most importantly, if you like our content if
- 33:40Ejaaz: you've been OG listeners of the show let us know in the comments Josh, you just mentioned,
- 33:46Ejaaz: there are probably some people that have listened to almost all or most of our
- 33:49Ejaaz: episodes we want to hear from you guys, we want to give you guys a shout out
- 33:52Ejaaz: because we read every single comment,
- 33:54Ejaaz: we love you guys, we wouldn't be where we are today if it wasn't for you guys
- 33:58Ejaaz: and it's going to be the exact same case as we push forwards into the new frontier.
- 34:03Ejaaz: Of this show going forwards thank you guys so much for listening.
- 34:06Josh: And yeah and i got to tell people where where to find us also so like please
- 34:09Josh: i'm not disappearing off the face the internet
- 34:11Josh: here handle right here at josh gale you can go follow for personal stuff we'll
- 34:15Josh: be showing up on the claude youtube channel ejes you have a gazillion followers
- 34:19Josh: on x you probably post like 12 times a day so
- 34:23Josh: that would be his handle that's where you can go find out about that and then
- 34:26Josh: these channels of course will begin to get active again i believe ejes you've
- 34:31Josh: been recording some episodes for the yahoo channel it's like kind of figuring
- 34:34Josh: out where all these things are going they'll
- 34:36Ejaaz: All live here just to be clear they'll all live here yeah so.
- 34:39Josh: You don't have to go anywhere else for that but yeah i think that's the update
- 34:43Josh: thank you all so much for watching thank you all so much for being here along
- 34:46Josh: this journey and we'll see you soon
