- 0:45Speaker 2: stay warm? If the power? Oh my god, yesterday, yesterday
- 0:49Speaker 2: I went. I did go to the Dollar General to
- 0:52Speaker 2: get toilet paper because I knew everywhere else was going
- 0:55Speaker 2: to be sold out. I was right. The Dollar General
- 0:57Speaker 2: did have toilet paper. But I heard people coming in
- 1:00Speaker 2: as I was getting my stuff in there, like do
- 1:02Speaker 2: you have prepane? They were sold out. Everybody was panic

- 1:24Speaker 2: Yeah, oh my goodness, I play it by her. We
- 1:26Speaker 2: will keep you updated on all the things to do
- 1:28Speaker 2: today to prep for this winter storm because it's coming.
- 1:31Speaker 2: But good morning, Hi. If you've been prepping or shopping,
- 1:34Speaker 2: called the show eight three three five oh one and
- 1:36Speaker 2: Bama is the number. That's eight three three five oh
- 1:38Speaker 2: one two two six two is.
- 1:40Speaker 1: What the hell? Headlines on the Alabama Show.
- 1:45Speaker 2: Armed roppers stormed a Pokemon store and stole one hundred
- 1:50Speaker 2: thousand dollars in merchandise.
- 1:53Speaker 3: Okay, I know, I'm nerdy. I don't know if I
- 1:57Speaker 3: can go this far.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Is it worth that much money?
- 2:00Speaker 3: Pokemon cards are all in right now and it's a
- 2:02Speaker 3: lot of money. Really, yes, why, I don't know.
- 2:05Speaker 2: So police in New York City are searching for three
- 2:08Speaker 2: armed robbers. They saw one hundred thousand dollars worth of
- 2:11Speaker 2: merchandise from a Pokemon store. Here's the owners talking about it.
- 2:15Speaker 2: They came through, blocked the door, kind of point some
- 2:17Speaker 2: guns at some of the customers in the front, told
- 2:19Speaker 2: everyone to stay back, came to the thing over here,
- 2:21Speaker 2: started smashing with a hammer and just taking things from there.
- 2:24Speaker 2: I'm just really glad every want is safe.
- 2:25Speaker 4: When I watched the tape, they were just like pointing guns,
- 2:28Speaker 4: like right in the faces of my friends.
- 2:30Speaker 2: I just need to know, Like, isn't Pokemon where you
- 2:32Speaker 2: take the cards and you like pick your character and
- 2:36Speaker 2: you battle back and go Pikachu Power, don't you?
- 2:39Speaker 3: Yeah, that's exactly.
- 2:40Speaker 2: How I did. Nobody do that?
- 2:43Speaker 1: Why Super Easy Trivia with the Yelabama Show eight.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Three three five oh one, Bama is the number to
- 2:51Speaker 2: call the show if you want to play, Andrew, good morning.
- 2:54Speaker 2: You want to play Super Easy Trivia?
- 2:56Speaker 1: Sure, I'd love to.
- 2:57Speaker 2: It's all survival skills since we have this apocalypse coming
- 3:01Speaker 2: and we all need to learn how to survive. Hey,
- 3:04Speaker 2: I love that sounds good. Producer Blake, is your lifeline?
- 3:08Speaker 2: Question number one, Andrew, what direction does the sun rise from?
- 3:12Speaker 2: It rises in the east? Yes, that way? You know
- 3:17Speaker 2: in the morning. If you need to know north, southeast
- 3:19Speaker 2: or west, look at where the sun rose and then
- 3:22Speaker 2: figure it out from there. Okay, what is the most
- 3:25Speaker 2: important thing to find first in a survival situation?
- 3:29Speaker 1: Water?
- 3:31Speaker 2: Absolutely, you can live longer without food than you can
- 3:34Speaker 2: water and don't drink the yellow snow.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Please do not drink it.
- 3:39Speaker 2: And next question, last one for the wind Andrew. What
- 3:45Speaker 2: tool helps you find your way if you get lost
- 3:48Speaker 2: in the woods. Accomplash compass is correct. Congratulations, buddy, you
- 4:04Speaker 2: got it. Yes, ma'am, I great. They appreciate it. We
- 4:06Speaker 2: appreciate your having a meal.
- 4:08Speaker 1: There's three things you need to know you with the
- 4:10Speaker 1: Elama Show.
- 4:12Speaker 2: A Homewood bookstore just got recognized in a magazine called
- 4:15Speaker 2: Garden and Gunn. This is a magazine that celebrates the South.
- 4:19Speaker 2: They published a feature of Alabama Booksmith. Is the name
- 4:23Speaker 2: of the bookstore and its owner, Jake Rice. So what
- 4:26Speaker 2: they highlight their small selection made up of exclusively signed books,
- 4:31Speaker 2: how the books are displayed, their face out so you
- 4:33Speaker 2: can see the covers, and their international clientele. But what's
- 4:38Speaker 2: the most important is the owner, Jake, who is ninety
- 4:42Speaker 2: years old. Oh my gosh, owns a bookstore. Eddie's got
- 4:46Speaker 2: a ponytail from how he describes him in the magazine. Okay,
- 4:50Speaker 2: I love it, Jake, You're amazing. We need to go
- 4:52Speaker 2: by there. Here's one skill you should know how to
- 4:56Speaker 2: do when or what to do and when to turn
- 4:59Speaker 2: off your to prevent flooding if your pipes burst during
- 5:03Speaker 2: freezing weather. So what you need to do first is
- 5:05Speaker 2: not where your water meter is. Producer Blake, who used
- 5:08Speaker 2: to work at Home Depot, do you know where it is?
- 5:10Speaker 3: Yes? I do.
- 5:11Speaker 2: It's usually ten to fifteen feet from the road. You're
- 5:14Speaker 2: going to look for like the cover. There's a concrete
- 5:17Speaker 2: or plastic cover and to get to the valve you
- 5:20Speaker 2: have to take the cover off. And then to turn
- 5:23Speaker 2: off the water you need a tool called a water
- 5:25Speaker 2: meter key, which is available at hardware stores. Do you
- 5:28Speaker 2: know if they haven't at Home Depot since she used
- 5:30Speaker 2: to work there twenty years ago.
- 5:33Speaker 3: Oh, I don't know.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Call your local hardware store. But if your pipes burst,
- 5:37Speaker 2: go turn off the water from the main valve valve valve.
- 5:42Speaker 2: Sabrina Carpenter was just announced the first performer announced for
- 5:46Speaker 2: this year's Grammys. This is her return after her performance
- 5:50Speaker 2: last year. She's also nominated for six Grammys this year.
- 5:54Speaker 2: We all know Producer Blake is excited because he has
- 5:56Speaker 2: a man crush on Sabrina Carpenter. I'm not guilty loves her.
- 6:01Speaker 2: The show is gonna air on CBS and Paramount Plus.
- 6:03Speaker 2: On February first at seven pm Central, and that is
- 6:07Speaker 2: three things you need to know. More at the Alabama
- 6:10Speaker 2: Show dot com.
- 6:11Speaker 1: We're listening to the Alabama Show on demand Today.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Class we're gonna be doing survival skills one oh one.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Okay, let's do it.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Welcome to the Alabama Show. I'm Alabama the girl with
- 6:22Speaker 2: producer Blake, who I put through crazy, wacky, wild fun
- 6:27Speaker 2: challenges and your challenge today, should you choose to accept it?
- 6:31Speaker 3: I don't think I get to choose.
- 6:33Speaker 2: So we have a winter storm coming in this weekend.
- 6:36Speaker 4: Uh huh.
- 6:37Speaker 2: People are freaking out because it could be ice and
- 6:39Speaker 2: sleet and snow. The power MAKEO out correct and Producer Blake.
- 6:44Speaker 2: Your challenge should you accept it? Is the emergency Heat
- 6:48Speaker 2: Haack Challenge. I'm gonna give you some items and you
- 6:52Speaker 2: gotta build a survival warmth system out of a cardboard box,
- 6:56Speaker 2: aluminum foil, and duct tape. Okay, so you can use
- 7:01Speaker 2: anything else you find in the office, anything at all,
- 7:04Speaker 2: anything at all, just like you would if you were
- 7:07Speaker 2: at home and your power went out and you needed
- 7:10Speaker 2: an emergency heat system.
- 7:12Speaker 3: Okay, how much lemon pool do I have?
- 7:15Speaker 2: I don't know. I got to go look in the
- 7:16Speaker 2: brain rider. I'm feeling it from Mark. But that's what
- 7:19Speaker 2: you're gonna do. And while you do that, we're gonna
- 7:22Speaker 2: share some survival skills on the air. So if you're
- 7:25Speaker 2: listening to the show and you know some survival skills
- 7:28Speaker 2: that could help our listening audience in case they lose
- 7:31Speaker 2: power in the winter storm, call the show and chair
- 7:33Speaker 2: eight three three five oh one, Bama is the number.
- 7:36Speaker 2: That's eight three three five oh one two two six two.
- 7:39Speaker 1: You were listening to the Alabama Show. The following program
- 7:42Speaker 1: is on demand.
- 7:43Speaker 2: We are doing Survival one oh one on the Alabama
- 7:46Speaker 2: Show right now. Producer Blake is building a warm shelter
- 7:49Speaker 2: in case the power goes out with a wet cardboard box, the.
- 7:52Speaker 4: Cardboard box, duct tape, and I'm about to use aluminum
- 7:55Speaker 4: fuld when I get.
- 7:56Speaker 2: To the ole and I said, you could use anything
- 7:58Speaker 2: else you found in the office. Do you have any
- 8:00Speaker 2: other items you may hand?
- 8:02Speaker 3: I gotta build the shelter first.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Okay, call the show if you have any survival skills
- 8:07Speaker 2: you would like to share. Like I've seen people say,
- 8:08Speaker 2: fill your bath tub up with water so that in
- 8:11Speaker 2: case the pipes burst you have enough water for your
- 8:14Speaker 2: pets and for you for a few days. Correct, here's
- 8:16Speaker 2: what we did. I'm gonna share this if your power
- 8:18Speaker 2: does go out, and if you have large rocks in
- 8:20Speaker 2: your yard, like big rocks, like we had big flat
- 8:24Speaker 2: river rocks during the big blizzard of ninety three or
- 8:27Speaker 2: whatever that happened when I was growing up. My granddad
- 8:30Speaker 2: hated them up on the grill all day. Yeah, and
- 8:33Speaker 2: then wrap them in a towel and put them at
- 8:35Speaker 2: the foot of our bed to keep us warm.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Okay, I don't the stone.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Stays warm for a long time. You could do this
- 8:42Speaker 2: with bricks if you have bricks, so there you go,
- 8:44Speaker 2: stick them in a fire for a couple of hours,
- 8:46Speaker 2: then safely remove them and wrap them in a towel
- 8:49Speaker 2: and put it at the foot of your bed. And
- 8:52Speaker 2: don't take the towel off.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Okay, thank you.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Call the show if you want to share some skills.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Eight three thirty five by one Bama. Also, if you
- 9:00Speaker 2: want to watch producer Blake build this shelter, We're on
- 9:03Speaker 2: TikTok live. Go follow the Alabama Show right now.
- 9:06Speaker 1: If you're listening to The Alabama Show on demand while
- 9:10Speaker 1: you are building your warm weather shelter producer, Blake.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Yes, let me give you some survival tips one O
- 9:18Speaker 2: one because we do have a winter storm that's coming
- 9:21Speaker 2: in this weekend and everyone is panicking that the power
- 9:24Speaker 2: may go out. Drip your faucets obviously to keep the
- 9:27Speaker 2: pipes from freezing. But also did you know open your
- 9:30Speaker 2: cabinets under the sinks so warm amer can circulate.
- 9:34Speaker 3: I did not know this.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Note I didn't either. And if the power goes out,
- 9:38Speaker 2: stay in one room to conserve the heat, and close
- 9:41Speaker 2: off your unused room with towels at the doors. Like,
- 9:44Speaker 2: shut all the doors and put towels under it.
- 9:45Speaker 3: I did know that one, but I did not know
- 9:47Speaker 3: the cabinet one.
- 9:48Speaker 2: I didn't use flashlights, not candles whenever possible. Don't run
- 9:52Speaker 2: a grill or generator inside. Please if you get stranded
- 9:57Speaker 2: in your car, because that is a big thing ice
- 9:59Speaker 2: on the road, stay with your car. Please do not
- 10:02Speaker 2: start Oh yes, weather.
- 10:04Speaker 3: And also make sure that the gas pipe the exhaust
- 10:08Speaker 3: is cleared out whenever you're doing that.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Yeah. Also, if the power goes out, eat high calorie
- 10:13Speaker 2: foods because fat helps keep you warm.
- 10:15Speaker 3: I'm good for a while anyway.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Come hang out with us. We're on TikTok Live right now.
- 10:21Speaker 2: If you want to see producer Blake build his warm
- 10:23Speaker 2: weather shelter with aluminum foil, a cardboard box and duct tape.
- 10:27Speaker 3: And I got the DUC tape ready to go.
- 10:30Speaker 2: And follow the Alabama show. We're on TikTok Live right now.
- 10:34Speaker 1: You're listening to the Alabama show.
- 10:36Speaker 2: On to man. Producer Blake has just come back into
- 10:40Speaker 2: the studio. You have completed your Survivor box.
- 10:46Speaker 3: With the stuff I have? Yes, it is completed.
- 10:48Speaker 2: So we gave producer Blake a life hack. He had
- 10:51Speaker 2: to create a warm shelter using a cardboard box.
- 10:56Speaker 3: M hm, yes, two of them is what I used.
- 10:58Speaker 3: I used duct tape, which I was told not to
- 11:00Speaker 3: use all.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Of it, an aluminum foil and aluminum foil would you like?
- 11:04Speaker 2: I haven't gone out to look at it yet. He
- 11:05Speaker 2: had to take it out of the studio because it
- 11:07Speaker 2: was too big. Is there any description you would like
- 11:10Speaker 2: to give me before I go look at your box?
- 11:13Speaker 3: If I had more duct tape, it would be more finished.
- 11:16Speaker 2: But right now this is the excuses. I need some solutions.
- 11:20Speaker 3: You need to come up with something.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Where did you put describe it to me described to
- 11:23Speaker 2: the world how it looks.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Okay, Well, there's a cardboard box as the sides and
- 11:28Speaker 4: a double decker as that covers the back and.
- 11:31Speaker 2: The top of cardboard. Yes, what did you do with
- 11:33Speaker 2: the aluminum foil?
- 11:34Speaker 3: I'm getting there? And then the aluminum foil is the door?
- 11:38Speaker 2: Why didn't you line the inside with aluminum foil to
- 11:41Speaker 2: reflect the heat back on you? It's going to be
- 11:43Speaker 2: twenty degrees.
- 11:44Speaker 3: As I said there, you did not give me enough
- 11:46Speaker 3: duct tape.
- 11:46Speaker 2: I said, you could use any office supplies. There's staplers
- 11:49Speaker 2: in here. There's other tape.
- 11:50Speaker 3: It doesn't work like.
- 11:51Speaker 2: That, Yes it does. Yes, excuses and I'll box solutions.
- 11:58Speaker 2: How are you going to live in a winter storm?
- 12:00Speaker 3: I'm gonna cover up with eliminu foils.
- 12:03Speaker 2: Make it go follow the Alabama Show. We're on TikTok
- 12:06Speaker 2: Live if you want to see this, and we'll post
- 12:08Speaker 2: a picture of producer Blake Shelter on all the other socials.
- 12:13Speaker 1: It's three things you need to know you with the
- 12:15Speaker 1: ELEM If.
- 12:16Speaker 2: You are looking for a job, Prosper a local nonprofit
- 12:21Speaker 2: is focused on job access and they have a newsletter
- 12:24Speaker 2: that comes out dedicated to connecting Birmingham job seekers to
- 12:28Speaker 2: employment and training opportunities, and you can sign up for
- 12:32Speaker 2: the newsletter at bhimnow dot com. They have the link
- 12:36Speaker 2: just click on the article about it. There's a new
- 12:39Speaker 2: term called house burping.
- 12:41Speaker 3: House burping, yup.
- 12:42Speaker 2: It's when you open your windows and doors to let
- 12:44Speaker 2: the stale air out.
- 12:46Speaker 3: I didn't know. Why do they call it burping?
- 12:49Speaker 2: The expert say the best time to do it includes
- 12:52Speaker 2: first thing in the morning, right after you cook, and
- 12:55Speaker 2: right after people visit out. Apparently this has been a
- 13:02Speaker 2: thing in Germany for a while and now it has
- 13:04Speaker 2: made its way to America. House burping. There is an
- 13:08Speaker 2: air quality expert that said it actually does have benefits
- 13:11Speaker 2: and you don't have to do it for long. Just
- 13:12Speaker 2: open your windows for ten minutes or less and you'll
- 13:15Speaker 2: be good.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Oh I like that.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Okay, burp your house and I'll do it this weekend.
- 13:18Speaker 2: Those can be too cold. You don't want that frozen air.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Keep the warm air in as long as you can.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Reading is good for your brain, according to the experts,
- 13:28Speaker 2: because books are way more calming for the brain than
- 13:33Speaker 2: doom scrolling or just being on social media period. Well, yeah, reading,
- 13:39Speaker 2: lets your mind settle into a slower, more natural rhythm
- 13:42Speaker 2: that feels more satisfying and less overwhelming. So if the
- 13:46Speaker 2: power goes out this weekend, I would encourage everyone to
- 13:48Speaker 2: put their phone down and pull out a book because
- 13:51Speaker 2: that will be better for your brain than going on
- 13:55Speaker 2: social media. The experts say a few tips to help
- 13:58Speaker 2: you want to read more. You can create a cozy
- 14:02Speaker 2: reading spot in your place that is separate from where
- 14:06Speaker 2: you usually sit and scroll on your phone for social media,
- 14:09Speaker 2: so you want to associate that. Also, you can keep
- 14:12Speaker 2: a book with you so that if you're stuck in
- 14:14Speaker 2: a waiting room where you have a break, you can
- 14:15Speaker 2: read or try audio books. Those are just as good
- 14:19Speaker 2: as regular books. Do that when you're exercising, driving, or
- 14:22Speaker 2: doing chores. I like this, I'm on reading or maybe
- 14:26Speaker 2: a podcast. We'll do a soothing podcast. Go follow the
- 14:29Speaker 2: Alabama Show on demand on the Heart Radio app. That's
- 14:32Speaker 2: three things you need to know. More at the Alabama
- 14:34Speaker 2: Show dot com.
- 14:36Speaker 1: The Alabama Show on demand. It's free on the iHeartRadio app.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Eight three three five O one BMMA is the number
- 14:41Speaker 2: to call the show. If you have good news, we
- 14:43Speaker 2: would love to celebrate with you. Good morning, who's this? Hey?
- 14:48Speaker 1: This Angelo girl?
- 14:49Speaker 2: What is going on? You got some good news? I
- 14:53Speaker 2: guess some good news.
- 14:54Speaker 3: My husband and I paid out by our house.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's awesome. How would you gonna do with
- 15:00Speaker 2: that extra money? I don't know yet.
- 15:03Speaker 3: I'm thinking vacation girl.
- 15:05Speaker 2: Yes, where would you go on vacation? My dream is Hawaii? Yes,
- 15:10Speaker 2: I was literally thanking Hawaii when I asked you. That
- 15:13Speaker 2: is the best place ever. I hope you go to Hawaii.
- 15:15Speaker 2: I hope you get a tiny little bikinian wear it.
- 15:17Speaker 2: And if your husband's being a jerk, I hope you
- 15:20Speaker 2: have a hot surfer instructor. Sure, sure, sure, We.
- 15:26Speaker 5: Thank you so much.
- 15:28Speaker 2: I'll enjoyed the day. That is great news. Congratulations on
- 15:31Speaker 2: paying off your house.
- 15:32Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 15:33Speaker 1: The Alabama Show fun to me, It's amazing free on
- 15:36Speaker 1: the iHeartRadio app.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Producer Blake was today years old when he realized he
- 15:40Speaker 2: doesn't know how to spend his money.
- 15:43Speaker 3: Yes, some people call it budgeting.
- 15:46Speaker 2: You literally should have. Oh, by the way, thank you
- 15:49Speaker 2: for listening to the Alabama Show. I'm Alabama with producer Blake.
- 15:52Speaker 2: You should have known this by now. You've lived on
- 15:55Speaker 2: your own for how long?
- 15:56Speaker 3: How long?
- 15:57Speaker 2: How old are you twenty.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Six, twenty seven? I think.
- 16:01Speaker 2: How long have you been out of your parents' house?
- 16:04Speaker 3: Oh, that's a tough question. I don't know.
- 16:07Speaker 2: At least five years.
- 16:08Speaker 4: Yeah, actually.
- 16:13Speaker 2: Jill paying adult paying rent? Yeah, power, uh huh, yes,
- 16:19Speaker 2: your cell phone?
- 16:20Speaker 3: Yes, yes, everything.
- 16:22Speaker 2: What happened? So what's been going on?
- 16:25Speaker 3: Well?
- 16:25Speaker 4: At church are there's a guy there that's a financial advisor,
- 16:30Speaker 4: and he's like.
- 16:31Speaker 3: I would like to help the students learn how to
- 16:33Speaker 3: budget their money.
- 16:34Speaker 2: You've been taking finance classes, correct? Is your girlfriend taking
- 16:37Speaker 2: those with you?
