- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 1: next
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. It's still me, Solo
- 0:13Speaker 1: and yours. Hopefully Joakim will be back tomorrow. At this point,
- 0:16Speaker 1: I have a theory that he doesn't want to come
- 0:18Speaker 1: back to work also.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Anyway, the morning starts. I'll tell you what happened in
- 0:23Speaker 1: just a bit. Shakira and Burna Boy kicks us off
- 0:26Speaker 1: this morning. Stay tuned. Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Faking Smiles, a new track right here on 987, Singapore's
- 0:35Speaker 1: number one hit music station. Uh, when I was listening
- 0:38Speaker 1: to that song, I was just wondering to myself, you know,
- 0:40Speaker 1: all the times that, you know, my friends and I
- 0:42Speaker 1: talk about work sometimes, or, you know, my, my friends
- 0:45Speaker 1: complain about the office politics and all that. It got
- 0:48Speaker 1: me thinking, right? My job is so different because when
- 0:52Speaker 1: I come into work, I literally only see Joakim. Joakim
- 0:55Speaker 1: only sees me.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Because no one else is in the studio this early
- 0:58Speaker 1: in the morning, aside from other presenters from other stations, right? So,
- 1:02Speaker 1: in a way, in a way, the office politics is
- 1:06Speaker 1: very different, like compared to, compared to my friends who
- 1:10Speaker 1: are in like 9 to 5 jobs, right? I'm sure
- 1:12Speaker 1: you understand, I'm sure you relate. Um, and yeah, there's always,
- 1:16Speaker 1: there's always the good and the bad, that's for sure.
- 1:18Speaker 1: It's an unconventional job that Joakim and I have here
- 1:20Speaker 1: on air.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Anyway, music flows, and I hope you're having a great, well,
- 1:25Speaker 1: we're in the middle of June holidays already. I was
- 1:27Speaker 1: just gonna say I hope you're having a great 2nd
- 1:29Speaker 1: or 3rd week of June holidays. I think we're kicking
- 1:31Speaker 1: off the 3rd week of June holidays. Yeah, um, and
- 1:34Speaker 1: very soon we'll get to hear you text us and
- 1:38Speaker 1: call us this early in the morning again. I kind
- 1:40Speaker 1: of miss it. What's happened over the weekends and oh,
- 1:43Speaker 1: in case you're wondering why Joakim isn't here, he, he
- 1:46Speaker 1: was supposed to come back today, like we're supposed to
- 1:47Speaker 1: be reunited today. That's what I said on all our
- 1:50Speaker 1: show trailers, right? But
- 1:51Speaker 1: Um, he, well, actually, I texted him on Saturday nights
- 1:56Speaker 1: because I ran into a mutual friend of ours when
- 1:59Speaker 1: I was out partying quite late. But usually Joakim stays
- 2:04Speaker 1: up quite late, you know what I mean, like, especially
- 2:06Speaker 1: on weekends. So I was wondering like, hey, how come
- 2:08Speaker 1: he didn't reply to me at, you know, around 11:30, 12,
- 2:11Speaker 1: around there. He should have been awake, so he didn't reply. Next,
- 2:14Speaker 1: the next morning, he replied me and he goes, oh man, like,
- 2:17Speaker 1: looks like a fun night that I missed out, but also,
- 2:20Speaker 1: I had very bad food poisoning today, or rather the
- 2:23Speaker 1: day before, which was Saturday, Saturday daytime itself, right? And
- 2:26Speaker 1: I was like, what, you went to Bhutan, you travel,
- 2:29Speaker 1: nothing happened, like everything was fine, and then when you
- 2:32Speaker 1: come back home, you got food poisoning back in Singapore.
- 2:35Speaker 1: That's just the kind of like face p worthy moment, right?
- 2:39Speaker 1: But I think it does happen to the best of
- 2:40Speaker 1: us sometimes. Maybe it's your body's way of telling you like, oh,
- 2:43Speaker 1: we're sien to be back.
- 2:45Speaker 1: We've had too good of a time overseas. We're not
- 2:48Speaker 1: having it the moment you come back, your body just
- 2:50Speaker 1: knows like, oh man. So yeah, I'm, I'm sure he'll
- 2:53Speaker 1: be fine by tomorrow and he'll be back with us 100%. Anyway, um,
- 2:58Speaker 1: later on, I would love to address all the talk
- 3:02Speaker 1: and the chatter about flower market here in Singapore.
- 3:06Speaker 1: As you know, it's over at IMBA at Gardens, Gardens
- 3:09Speaker 1: by the Bay, right? If you've not been just yet,
- 3:11Speaker 1: I mean, they are, they champion a lot of art-related exhibitions.
- 3:14Speaker 1: They bring a lot of really cool artists here to Singapore. So,
- 3:18Speaker 1: let me, let me fill you in on my experience
- 3:21Speaker 1: and this was, this is purely from like an objective standpoint, OK.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I went there, I booked a slots and my bestie
- 3:29Speaker 1: and I, we went to just have, have immerse, yeah,
- 3:32Speaker 1: immerse ourselves in that.
- 3:33Speaker 1: And just see like what's up, you know, so it's
- 3:36Speaker 1: safe to say, we actually did have quite a cute time.
- 3:38Speaker 1: I'll tell you more in just a little bit to
- 3:40Speaker 1: Flower Market Singapore. As you know, um, this is the end.
- 3:44Speaker 1: Over the weekends, my bestie and I, we headed down
- 3:46Speaker 1: to Flower Market by CJ Hendry. A lot of people,
- 3:49Speaker 1: a lot of people, honestly, like it was, it was packed,
- 3:51Speaker 1: but that being said, they had already switched it to um,
- 3:55Speaker 1: Allocated time slots at that time. So I think there
- 3:58Speaker 1: were no walk-ins allowed, although I heard that some people
- 4:02Speaker 1: still wanted to try their luck, I'm guessing to, to
- 4:05Speaker 1: just queue up and see if they could go in, right? Um, however,
- 4:09Speaker 1: I think due to capacity, they did, they did close
- 4:12Speaker 1: off walk-ins at, at some points. Please correct me if
- 4:15Speaker 1: I'm wrong, but I believe walk-ins were closed at some point.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I saw it on socials.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Um, it, it was, it was quite an experience, I
- 4:21Speaker 1: have to say. I, I went in to try and
- 4:24Speaker 1: film like a POV of my shopping experience, which was
- 4:28Speaker 1: indeed very challenging because I wanted to buy everything. So it,
- 4:32Speaker 1: it was the, it was the kind of thing where
- 4:34Speaker 1: you go and you're like, oh, yeah, how many flowers
- 4:36Speaker 1: do I buy? And, you know, I kind of understand
- 4:38Speaker 1: why people left with like a whole entire tote bag
- 4:41Speaker 1: full of, of flowers and, you know, people were trying
- 4:45Speaker 1: to make their bouquets. It was, it was actually quite nice,
- 4:47Speaker 1: I think.
- 4:48Speaker 1: Um, OK, forgive me for saying this, but I think
- 4:51Speaker 1: sticking to just the allocated time slots was a good idea.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Because when I went in there, people were actually taking
- 4:58Speaker 1: the time to, you know, immerse in the moment, to
- 5:00Speaker 1: put their bouquet together. It was quite cute, cute to
- 5:02Speaker 1: see and like families were doing it together, you know, as,
- 5:05Speaker 1: as an activity. So I managed to put together some. Um, I,
- 5:09Speaker 1: I don't think I was very wary of like what
- 5:12Speaker 1: was like a Singapore exclusive and what wasn't, but
- 5:17Speaker 1: I did recognize some of them. It's just, you know,
- 5:19Speaker 1: some were sold out already by the time I, I
- 5:20Speaker 1: went there. So, um, to avoid disappointments, please make sure
- 5:24Speaker 1: that you have your time slots. I think the next
- 5:26Speaker 1: one that will uh draw a huge amount of crowd
- 5:29Speaker 1: will be Juju World happening very soon in just a
- 5:31Speaker 1: few days. And, uh, I, I actually heard as well
- 5:35Speaker 1: from the organizer that a lot of the people that
- 5:37Speaker 1: rushed in to snatch up some of the flowers, they're
- 5:41Speaker 1: actually not even Singaporean.
- 5:43Speaker 1: There are a lot of um people visiting from overseas
- 5:46Speaker 1: that are hardcore fans of this, of this installment and
- 5:50Speaker 1: of this uh artist, right? CJ Hendry.
- 5:52Speaker 1: That, that, I think it's giving Singapore an interesting name
- 5:55Speaker 1: right now. People are like, oh, why are Singaporeans rushing to,
- 5:59Speaker 1: to grab the flowers like that? Well, clarification, not everyone's
- 6:02Speaker 1: actually Singaporean, but I guess that doesn't matter. It's still
- 6:05Speaker 1: being held here in Singapore, but it's a good problem
- 6:08Speaker 1: for our friends over at Imba and Gardens by the Bay.
- 6:10Speaker 1: It was truly quite, quite really nice to see a
- 6:13Speaker 1: lot of people flocking towards Gardens by the Bay as well.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Anyway, um, if you managed to get your time slot
- 6:19Speaker 1: and you managed to visit, fantastic. If not, Juju World.
- 6:23Speaker 1: Up next, I think that's really cute as well. Um,
- 6:25Speaker 1: it's the first time I think I'm hoping to get
- 6:28Speaker 1: something from, I think it's like a blindbox situation as well.
- 6:31Speaker 1: So my friends and I are pretty, pretty excited. In fact,
- 6:33Speaker 1: we went and booked our slot already for next weekend.
- 6:36Speaker 1: I'm like, oh man, yeah, I, I, I feel it.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I feel it. I feel the hype because I, I
- 6:41Speaker 1: really wanted to ask him, has he been following everything
- 6:43Speaker 1: that is going on with the World Cup because he
- 6:45Speaker 1: was traveling and stuff. I'm sure he is, but wanted
- 6:48Speaker 1: to show some love to this coffee shop, not here
- 6:51Speaker 1: in Singapore, but in Hangzhou, which actually funny enough, I
- 6:55Speaker 1: visited many years ago, like when I was a student.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Um, not, not the most, I'm not sure if Hangzhou
- 7:00Speaker 1: is really, um, a place where tourists go to, but
- 7:04Speaker 1: I went there, I dropped by there because of a
- 7:06Speaker 1: school exchange program back then. As you would know, with
- 7:09Speaker 1: World Cup season, I feel like any bar or or
- 7:13Speaker 1: restaurant or lounge that screens the World Cup, right, there
- 7:16Speaker 1: will surely be people, 100%, right? You would think, yeah,
- 7:19Speaker 1: it will attract crowds for sure.
- 7:21Speaker 1: This owner of a coffee shop in Hangzhou, he hosted
- 7:24Speaker 1: a World Cup screening and invited like 4000 people, but unfortunately,
- 7:28Speaker 1: no one turned up. That was really quite sad and he,
- 7:31Speaker 1: he decided to watch it alone. Um, you know, putting
- 7:34Speaker 1: together a big bash is not easy, and I think
- 7:37Speaker 1: the prep to host the screening started like 2 weeks
- 7:40Speaker 1: before the Mexico-South Africa face-off. So, he was rallying the crowd,
- 7:44Speaker 1: nobody turned up, unfortunately, so.
- 7:47Speaker 1: He eventually just settled back in and enjoyed it himself,
- 7:50Speaker 1: but because of that, it got covered by so much
- 7:53Speaker 1: media that I feel eventually people will go and support him, right?
- 7:57Speaker 1: I mean, here in Singapore as well, if you know
- 7:59Speaker 1: of a nearby neighborhood cafe or a bar that's hosting
- 8:03Speaker 1: the World Cup, you know, go, go support them. I
- 8:05Speaker 1: think this is the time where it will drive up
- 8:07Speaker 1: sales for them and
- 8:09Speaker 1: The F&B industry in Singapore is so volatile and unpredictable.
- 8:12Speaker 1: So if there is a neighborhood joint that you can
- 8:15Speaker 1: support within your means, please do it. We want to
- 8:18Speaker 1: show some love, especially to our neighborhood aunties and uncles, right?
- 8:21Speaker 1: For sure. I mean, I may not be a, a
- 8:24Speaker 1: big football fan or actually a fan at all, but
- 8:27Speaker 1: I do still like to soak in the atmosphere once
- 8:29Speaker 1: in a while, you know, just go with the crowd,
- 8:32Speaker 1: as you have seen from our latest video on 987's
- 8:35Speaker 1: TikTok and Instagram.
- 8:37Speaker 1: And speaking of home, if you're tuning in now and
- 8:39Speaker 1: you're in the process of going through renovations, I don't know,
- 8:42Speaker 1: interior design, or maybe you're just on the hunt for
- 8:45Speaker 1: a new home, this could be something that you're interested in.
- 8:49Speaker 1: $500,000. What exactly does that get you when it comes
- 8:53Speaker 1: to home renovations? Uh, to me, $500,000 that's on the
- 8:57Speaker 1: very high side, you know, I mean, I've known some
- 8:59Speaker 1: friends who did their house and they told me like, oh,
- 9:02Speaker 1: their renaul can go up to like 1000 or something
- 9:05Speaker 1: plus interior design and everything all all in.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Right. And that to me is 1000, that's a lot already,
- 9:10Speaker 1: but considering how, you know, if you get a resale
- 9:14Speaker 1: or maybe um an older apartment, for example, maybe there's
- 9:16Speaker 1: a lot more renovation to be done versus, you know,
- 9:20Speaker 1: getting a brand new home, right?
- 9:21Speaker 1: So this couple has found their way into the news
- 9:24Speaker 1: by transforming their flats into a luxury home. They actually
- 9:29Speaker 1: spent 5000 on renovations, and this includes walls that are
- 9:33Speaker 1: almost entirely covered in marble patterned slabs. It looks like
- 9:38Speaker 1: the whole, the whole apartment looks like it's marble, by
- 9:40Speaker 1: the way.
- 9:40Speaker 1: So I'm unclear whether it's like real marble slabs or
- 9:43Speaker 1: is it just, is it a design? Is it a
- 9:46Speaker 1: mixture of both? Um, I'm curious because that's a lot
- 9:49Speaker 1: of marble. Um, it does look like a, like a
- 9:51Speaker 1: hotel almost, you know, which I think was the vibe
- 9:54Speaker 1: they were going for. Um, I think he, the owner
- 9:57Speaker 1: actually said, I want to feel like I'm staying in
- 9:59Speaker 1: a high-end hotel.
- 10:02Speaker 1: I mean, with, by spending 5000, I'm sure you feel
- 10:05Speaker 1: like you're living in a hotel for sure. Um, he's
- 10:07Speaker 1: also got a massive gaming room, something that Joki will
- 10:09Speaker 1: want in his future home as well. He's always saying
- 10:11Speaker 1: that he needs a four or five-room flat in the
- 10:14Speaker 1: future because he wants to turn one of it into
- 10:16Speaker 1: like a massive gaming room, so a bit of a
- 10:18Speaker 1: man cave kind of situation, right? Um, overall, you know, the, the,
- 10:22Speaker 1: the bedroom is beautiful. Um, I think they transformed one
- 10:25Speaker 1: of the rooms into a massive walk-in wardrobe as well.
- 10:29Speaker 1: You know, unfortunately for me because I live in quite
- 10:31Speaker 1: a small, my own personal apartment is quite small, so
- 10:34Speaker 1: the whole place is just filled with my stuff like clothes,
- 10:37Speaker 1: like things just thrown around, shoes. Yeah, I'm not very organized,
- 10:41Speaker 1: so I can never do a home tour video anymore, um,
- 10:45Speaker 1: aside from the time that I just moved in, I
- 10:47Speaker 1: should have done it then.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Anyway, aside from that, the renovation process actually took a
- 10:51Speaker 1: whole year, literally a whole year. That's crazy. And uh
- 10:55Speaker 1: I think the, the project was delayed several times, you know,
- 10:58Speaker 1: because of materials and a few challenges and all that. Um,
- 11:02Speaker 1: of course, the 5000 includes the decoration, furniture, appliances and,
- 11:05Speaker 1: and everything as well, which is quite a lot of
- 11:08Speaker 1: effort because their design changed nearly 40 times, 40, by
- 11:13Speaker 1: the way, 40 times.
- 11:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I, I don't know whether this would
- 11:17Speaker 1: have encouraged um the homeowner who is very interested in
- 11:20Speaker 1: design to continue to be interested in ID or has
- 11:24Speaker 1: it officially, you know, turned him off it completely. He's like, OK,
- 11:27Speaker 1: I'm done, one and done. This is the only project
- 11:29Speaker 1: I'm doing. I don't think I can do this for
- 11:30Speaker 1: a living.
- 11:32Speaker 1: But hey, if you are going through a similar thing now,
- 11:35Speaker 1: you're indecisive about your home reno design and all that.
- 11:38Speaker 1: I'm sure these things take time. All the best when
- 11:41Speaker 1: it comes to that. I personally have two friends right
- 11:43Speaker 1: now who are going through this. One is moving into
- 11:46Speaker 1: a rental while their house is going to be done
- 11:48Speaker 1: in about a year or so.
- 11:50Speaker 1: And my other friend, she just got herself a resale.
- 11:54Speaker 1: So I'm very excited for her and all my friends
- 11:56Speaker 1: who are, you know, sparking off a new start. But
- 11:59Speaker 1: here's a gentle reminder to us all, even here in Singapore,
- 12:02Speaker 1: although most of us locals, we know how strict it
- 12:05Speaker 1: is when it comes to photography, videography, especially drones, OK?
- 12:10Speaker 1: The usage of drones requires permits for sure. Um, unfortunately
- 12:14Speaker 1: for this freelance photographer from Thailand,
- 12:17Speaker 1: He flew a drone without a permit and captured footage
- 12:21Speaker 1: of our Safti and Pasir Laba camp. OK. I think
- 12:25Speaker 1: it's still being investigated right now, but um, he's been
- 12:28Speaker 1: fined $15,000 and he's pleaded guilty to several offenses already.
- 12:33Speaker 1: So, I think I'm looking into the case a little
- 12:36Speaker 1: bit more, um, he, he works as a freelance photographer
- 12:38Speaker 1: for various companies, but um he bought this DGI Mavic
- 12:43Speaker 1: 4 Pro drone, which I've seen before uh when it
- 12:45Speaker 1: comes to snowboarding. I've seen a lot of these videos
- 12:48Speaker 1: like people using a really cool DGI Mavic.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Uh, drones for their snowboarding and skiing videos, but this one, OK,
- 12:56Speaker 1: this one definitely is, is, uh, he's, he's, he's really
- 13:00Speaker 1: breaking a lot of rules here. Now, he decided to
- 13:03Speaker 1: visit Singapore before going to KL and I believe that,
- 13:07Speaker 1: you know, he was doing a little bit of work
- 13:09Speaker 1: here in Singapore and all that, um, and he was told,
- 13:12Speaker 1: or rather, we are told here in the news that
- 13:14Speaker 1: he was taking photos to be used in marketing materials
- 13:17Speaker 1: in Thailand.
- 13:18Speaker 1: However, this drone footage, I mean, a little bit sussed
- 13:22Speaker 1: right now. I'm just wondering why was he even in
- 13:24Speaker 1: that area in the first place, but the drone has
- 13:27Speaker 1: been seized and plenty of penalties now and uh he's,
- 13:30Speaker 1: he's facing, I guess he's facing the fine as I
- 13:34Speaker 1: mentioned earlier. So we'll see what else happens or what
- 13:37Speaker 1: else the investigation unfolds and reveals, but just a gentle
- 13:41Speaker 1: reminder to be very careful here in Singapore. I think
- 13:44Speaker 1: back then when I was in school,
- 13:46Speaker 1: You know, I was in film school, right? So it
- 13:48Speaker 1: was at the dawn of drone usage. I think people
- 13:52Speaker 1: started discovering like, hey, there's this, you know, thing called
- 13:54Speaker 1: a drone. Could we use this for our project and stuff?
- 13:57Speaker 1: And shortly after that, I think there were a lot
- 14:00Speaker 1: of rules being imposed because um people were starting to
- 14:03Speaker 1: get their hands on, on drones. so easy nowadays, to
- 14:05Speaker 1: be honest, right? So simple.
- 14:08Speaker 1: Overseas could be slightly different. They may not be um
- 14:11Speaker 1: as strict, but of course, when it comes to anything
- 14:14Speaker 1: related to public security, safety, our army, everything, yeah, those
- 14:19Speaker 1: you gotta avoid for sure. Make sure that if you
- 14:21Speaker 1: wanna do some filming, you have to try and apply
- 14:24Speaker 1: for a permit, 100%. You need it. Coming up in
- 14:26Speaker 1: just a few minutes, had a few um of you
- 14:28Speaker 1: DMing me this morning and over the weekend as well
- 14:31Speaker 1: because I posted that I was over at Flower Market
- 14:33Speaker 1: Singapore at IMB.
- 14:35Speaker 1: At Gardens by the Bay. I, I'm sure you would
- 14:37Speaker 1: have seen it. It's been dominating all your social media platforms, TikTok, Instagram.
- 14:42Speaker 1: You've seen pictures, you've seen videos of somewhat both sides
- 14:47Speaker 1: of the spectrum, right? You've got the nice part of
- 14:49Speaker 1: it where people actually can go and enjoy, expand your creativity,
- 14:53Speaker 1: and then on the flip side, you get a bit
- 14:55Speaker 1: of ugly behavior.
- 14:56Speaker 1: I want to break it down for you in just
- 14:58Speaker 1: a few minutes and maybe just clarify a thing or
- 15:01Speaker 1: two as well about what's going on at Flower Market Singapore. Um,
- 15:05Speaker 1: I'm not paid to say this at all, but as
- 15:07Speaker 1: a fellow enthusiast when it comes to going down for
- 15:10Speaker 1: art exhibitions and for experiencing things with like my best friends,
- 15:13Speaker 1: when we just decide, hey, you know what, let's have
- 15:15Speaker 1: a girls' afternoon.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Let's book a slot and let's go. Um, thankfully, we
- 15:18Speaker 1: managed to get a slot. But yes, um, I'm gonna
- 15:21Speaker 1: tell you how I felt about it and how my
- 15:23Speaker 1: experience was in just a bit. Uh, over the weekend,
- 15:26Speaker 1: on Saturday, actually, I was posting that I visited Flower
- 15:29Speaker 1: Market Singapore and yes, we booked a slot. We went down, um,
- 15:33Speaker 1: my bestie and I were like, OK, we gotta be prepared.
- 15:35Speaker 1: It's gonna be hot when we're walking there. It was
- 15:38Speaker 1: incredibly hot on Saturday, by the way.
- 15:40Speaker 1: But I think one thing that I wanted to just
- 15:42Speaker 1: give a big shout out to is that I know
- 15:44Speaker 1: there's been a lot of talk on social media about
- 15:46Speaker 1: how um it's overcrowded, you know, the, the wait time
- 15:50Speaker 1: is long, people are being turned away, um, walk-ins were
- 15:54Speaker 1: closed due to overwhelming response and there were some unhappy
- 15:57Speaker 1: people that were commenting on, on social media. Firstly, um, I,
- 16:01Speaker 1: I do, I did notice that the, the staff that
- 16:04Speaker 1: were standing outside, right, I really feel for them because
- 16:07Speaker 1: it's already been stated that
- 16:09Speaker 1: Yes, you know, while they are handling a lot of
- 16:12Speaker 1: people right now, the entrance, when it was, uh, when
- 16:16Speaker 1: walk-ins were available, it was subject to availability as well
- 16:19Speaker 1: and subject to how many people were in there, right,
- 16:22Speaker 1: due to the crowds. So sometimes I feel that, that
- 16:27Speaker 1: people really give staff members a hard time too, because
- 16:30Speaker 1: I saw people just like treating them not very nicely,
- 16:33Speaker 1: you know, in a very demanding and uh and
- 16:37Speaker 1: I would say even entitled kind of manners. So, I
- 16:39Speaker 1: would say I want to give a big hug to
- 16:41Speaker 1: all the staff members, not just over at Flower Market Iba,
- 16:44Speaker 1: but many other places as well that you have to
- 16:46Speaker 1: deal with massive crowds, you know, they don't want to
- 16:48Speaker 1: turn you away. It's not.
- 16:49Speaker 1: Their fault. They are not the ones that want to
- 16:51Speaker 1: turn you away. It's just overcrowded and I think it's
- 16:53Speaker 1: for everyone's safety and sanity that they put a cap
- 16:57Speaker 1: to the amount of people in there. So, I don't
- 16:59Speaker 1: actually disagree with them stopping walk-ins at some points. And also,
- 17:03Speaker 1: I heard that there were a lot of visitors not
- 17:06Speaker 1: from Singapore, although I know it doesn't give Singapore a
- 17:10Speaker 1: very good name when you see people rushing like that
- 17:12Speaker 1: and trying to snatch up the flowers, but
- 17:14Speaker 1: I did hear, actually, the majority of them are not
- 17:17Speaker 1: even from Singapore, but unfortunately for crowds like that and
- 17:21Speaker 1: for um collections with a lot of cult following, people
- 17:25Speaker 1: are just such big fans, right? I have a feeling
- 17:28Speaker 1: that people are trying to resell these items on, on
- 17:31Speaker 1: social media or on other sorts of platforms too, you know,
- 17:33Speaker 1: which is quite, it's quite sad to see. I really
- 17:36Speaker 1: still hope that you have a good time because I
- 17:38Speaker 1: sure did.
- 17:39Speaker 1: I mean, regardless of the amount of people that were there,
- 17:41Speaker 1: you know, if you just go with a friend or
- 17:43Speaker 1: go with someone that you really enjoy spending time with, um, we,
- 17:46Speaker 1: we really had such a great time putting a bouquet together, although, yeah,
- 17:50Speaker 1: for sure, there were plenty of people, we had to
- 17:52Speaker 1: wait around a bit, but I think it was still
- 17:54Speaker 1: a fun activity for my bestie and I. So we
- 17:56Speaker 1: already booked our slots for Juju World next weekend. I'm
- 18:00Speaker 1: gonna be there. So, um, yeah, I, I can't believe
- 18:04Speaker 1: that I'm going down to try and get myself a juju,
- 18:06Speaker 1: but yeah, it's my first time ever.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Going down willingly for um a blind box kind of situation. I,
- 18:13Speaker 1: I don't really do that, but the juju doll is
- 18:16Speaker 1: quite cute lah. So yeah, I didn't didn't mind. My
- 18:18Speaker 1: friend and I are like, we're definitely going. Gonna dive
- 18:21Speaker 1: straight into it. Talk about rejection here today. Not to
- 18:24Speaker 1: kick off your week with a questionable in a questionable way, right?
- 18:28Speaker 1: But I think this is quite relatable because this story.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Became something very inspiring and motivational for a lot of us, right?
- 18:36Speaker 1: Especially if we want to pursue something, but we're not
- 18:38Speaker 1: quite sure whether it, it is the thing for us.
- 18:41Speaker 1: This man here from Singapore, he's officially graduated with a
- 18:45Speaker 1: Harvard PhD after several rejections by local universities, and I
- 18:51Speaker 1: think he cited that at the time, his grades were
- 18:54Speaker 1: not that good and um he didn't manage to pursue
- 18:58Speaker 1: what he was interested in.
- 18:59Speaker 1: And only later on in life did he, did he
- 19:02Speaker 1: pursue that and was able to do that, which got
- 19:04Speaker 1: me thinking about the time where actually I applied for poly, right?
- 19:08Speaker 1: And this was before our actual O-level grades came out, OK?
- 19:11Speaker 1: So you can apply for like, um, like a direct
- 19:14Speaker 1: admission situation. I'm not sure if it's the, they still
- 19:16Speaker 1: call it the same thing now, but back then it
- 19:18Speaker 1: was something like direct admission, right? So, I applied based
- 19:22Speaker 1: on my prelim results, which were very bad. It was
- 19:25Speaker 1: atrocious and terrible, but I was hoping that I could
- 19:27Speaker 1: win them over with, you know, my personality.
- 19:30Speaker 1: But, OK. Problem was I did not even land the
- 19:34Speaker 1: interview for direct admission. In fact, I got rejected by
- 19:38Speaker 1: several schools here in Singapore, and I, I don't know
- 19:41Speaker 1: whether in that way, it made me want to lock
- 19:44Speaker 1: in and score better, you know, for my O-levels, but
- 19:48Speaker 1: no regrets because it it is what it is and
- 19:50Speaker 1: everything happens for a reason. So I'm still very, I'm
- 19:52Speaker 1: really happy that I managed to make it into my
- 19:54Speaker 1: first choice, which was uh Neon Mascom, right?
- 19:57Speaker 1: But it didn't stop me from thinking about those times
- 20:00Speaker 1: that I got rejected from other poly, just based on grades, OK?
- 20:03Speaker 1: This was purely based on grades. So, I don't blame
- 20:06Speaker 1: them because I certainly wasn't the most academic person. I
- 20:10Speaker 1: really need to have motivation to rise to the occasion,
- 20:12Speaker 1: you know what I mean? So, thankfully I did eventually.
- 20:15Speaker 1: But let's talk about rejection here today. Be it school,
- 20:18Speaker 1: be it, I don't know, relationships, jobs, whatever, something that
- 20:21Speaker 1: we have to experience at least several times in our lives, right?
- 20:24Speaker 1: And what is life without a bit of rejection? And
- 20:27Speaker 1: the only way to go is up when you're, when
- 20:29Speaker 1: you're down in that moment. So, give me a call,
- 20:31Speaker 1: 669-11987 or you can drop me a WhatsApp message, 90050987.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Thanks to this guy who has inspired many of us.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Big shout out to Mr. Joel Tan, by the way, um,
- 20:43Speaker 1: for sharing.
- 20:44Speaker 1: His story on so many different platforms. Give me a
- 20:47Speaker 1: call or a WhatsApp message, 90050987. When was the last
- 20:52Speaker 1: time you experienced rejection?
- 20:55Speaker 1: It can be in any way, shape or form, OK? School,
- 20:58Speaker 1: is it a relationship? Is it a date? Is it
- 21:01Speaker 1: something related to your work, job, anything at all. It could,
- 21:05Speaker 1: it could go across any of these categories. Give me
- 21:07Speaker 1: a call right now at 669-11987. In exchange, I've got
- 21:10Speaker 1: a lovely experience with $100 coming your way. I'll tell
- 21:13Speaker 1: you more about that and what you're gonna win in
- 21:14Speaker 1: just a while. Talking about rejection. Now, rejection comes in
- 21:18Speaker 1: many ways, shapes and forms, right?
- 21:21Speaker 1: And this actually inspired my topic here today, giving a
- 21:24Speaker 1: big shout out here to Joel Tan, who said, you
- 21:27Speaker 1: know what, he graduated with a Harvard PhD after unfortunately
- 21:30Speaker 1: getting rejected by some universities here locally, and he sent
- 21:35Speaker 1: a lot of credit out to those who gave him
- 21:36Speaker 1: a chance, and I can kind of, I can kind
- 21:38Speaker 1: of relate, although I did not get a PhD from Harvard,
- 21:41Speaker 1: but when I was applying for polys, my prelim results
- 21:45Speaker 1: were not fantastic. In fact, it was, it was, it
- 21:48Speaker 1: was trash. It was really bad.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Um, so I think, you know, I got a bit
- 21:51Speaker 1: concerned and my parents were also like, maybe you should
- 21:53Speaker 1: try direct admission just in case, right? I applied. Unfortunately,
- 21:56Speaker 1: I got rejected and I started really worrying and that's
- 22:00Speaker 1: when I was like, OK, I got to lock in
- 22:01Speaker 1: and try and do well, so that I can get
- 22:03Speaker 1: into my top choice, right, which is actually Nan Mascom. Thankfully,
- 22:07Speaker 1: made it there and the rest is history, but it
- 22:10Speaker 1: also taught me a lot, right?
- 22:12Speaker 1: Um, I think for the most part, we fear rejection,
- 22:14Speaker 1: for sure. So we're talking rejection today. Heading to our
- 22:17Speaker 1: messages first before we head to the phone lines. I'm
- 22:20Speaker 1: saying hi to Anonymous. Say, hey, morning, Sonia, please keep
- 22:23Speaker 1: me anonymous. Speaking of rejection, I actually plucked up the
- 22:27Speaker 1: courage to ask a girl out after many, many months
- 22:30Speaker 1: of having massive crush on her.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Unfortunately, she rejected me in a very, very nice, sweet manner,
- 22:37Speaker 1: but it doesn't stop me from feeling a little bit
- 22:39Speaker 1: of heartbreak still. Although, you know what, I'm proud of
- 22:42Speaker 1: myself for trying because if I, I tried to do
- 22:45Speaker 1: this 5 years ago, I probably wouldn't have had the
- 22:47Speaker 1: courage or the confidence to do so. So, just wanted
- 22:50Speaker 1: to share.
- 22:51Speaker 1: with you today. Oh, thank you. Thank you, Anonymous for
- 22:53Speaker 1: that story. I mean, look, it, it does happen to
- 22:57Speaker 1: the best of us, right? Um, I'm not sure if, uh,
- 23:00Speaker 1: I've had friends who told me about any rejection stories lately.
- 23:03Speaker 1: I think the most recent one from one of my
- 23:05Speaker 1: besties is job-related. So if you want to tell me
- 23:08Speaker 1: more about that, that also works. Saying hi here, um,
- 23:11Speaker 1: morning to you, Dave. You said, morning, Sonia. Actually, Joakim
- 23:15Speaker 1: is missed for this subject of rejections. He should have
- 23:18Speaker 1: been here. Oh no.
- 23:20Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, he'll be back tomorrow. I'll fill him
- 23:22Speaker 1: in on um the kind things our listeners have been
- 23:26Speaker 1: saying about the topic of rejection.
- 23:28Speaker 1: And why he should be here. OK, more of your
- 23:30Speaker 1: messages and calls coming up in just a bit. I've
- 23:32Speaker 1: got one more anonymous message and a caller hanging on
- 23:36Speaker 1: the line. All the details next, but of course, in
- 23:38Speaker 1: exchange for your stories, you're walking away with a beautiful
- 23:42Speaker 1: dining experience. This is over at Marriott Singapore Novena, located
- 23:47Speaker 1: on level 33. It is beautiful and you can enjoy
- 23:51Speaker 1: drink deals. It's a rooftop bar, maybe even
- 23:54Speaker 1: Then a little birthday celebration with that skyline scenery in
- 23:57Speaker 1: the backdrop. Yeah, this one's for you. It is worth
- 24:00Speaker 1: $100 a dining experience thanks to Courtyard by Marriott Singapore Novena.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Phone lines are open once again, 669-11987. When was the
- 24:08Speaker 1: last time you experienced rejection? It can be related to
- 24:11Speaker 1: your job, school, relationships, anything at all. Uh, one more
- 24:14Speaker 1: anonymous message before we go to Ed, who's hanging on
- 24:17Speaker 1: the line right now. So saying hi to anonymous texter
- 24:19Speaker 1: number 2 here today said,
- 24:21Speaker 1: Morning, Sonia. I totally feel you when it comes to
- 24:24Speaker 1: being rejected regarding school. I too went through the same
- 24:28Speaker 1: thing and I was quite upset because my friends and
- 24:31Speaker 1: I made a pact. We have to go to this
- 24:33Speaker 1: course together. Unfortunately, I don't think I scored well enough
- 24:36Speaker 1: for that and uh I got rejected from my very
- 24:39Speaker 1: first choice. I won't say which on, on air right now,
- 24:43Speaker 1: but no, now that, that I look back at it,
- 24:46Speaker 1: it's been many years and
- 24:48Speaker 1: I really feel that everything does happen for a reason,
- 24:50Speaker 1: like you said earlier on as well. I have no regrets.
- 24:53Speaker 1: I think that I played into my strengths, going to
- 24:56Speaker 1: something that I'm more familiar and comfortable with. Thank you,
- 24:59Speaker 1: Anonymous section number 2 for that. We got Ed on
- 25:01Speaker 1: the line. OK, Ed, what happened recently that's related to rejection?
- 25:05Speaker 1: So I went for a job and I went twice.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Then they said, oh, I'm sorry, no, I was like, wow,
- 25:13Speaker 1: I took leave for this.
- 25:15Speaker 1: OK, wait, did they give you a reason why? Um,
- 25:18Speaker 1: you know, the funny thing is they're looking for two
- 25:20Speaker 1: positions and one is a more senior and then they
- 25:24Speaker 1: later found out maybe the senior will be a better fit,
- 25:26Speaker 1: but it's kind of unfair because they only want to
- 25:29Speaker 1: hire one, but they, I mean, they, they send out
- 25:31Speaker 1: a post for two positions. They kind of like played
- 25:33Speaker 1: with me and think, OK, maybe the first guy rejected,
- 25:37Speaker 1: now I get the second best. So I'm gathering.
- 25:40Speaker 1: That you really want to leave your current job, I mean,
- 25:43Speaker 1: is that the situation? I'm now on a contract that
- 25:47Speaker 1: is being advertised was a permanent role and better environment, yeah.
- 25:55Speaker 1: All the best. I really hope that the next one
- 25:57Speaker 1: that you go for comes through with something at least.
- 26:03Speaker 1: I know it's I think it's not easy.
- 26:05Speaker 1: It, right, to be rejected. Hey, everything happens for a reason.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Maybe something that wasn't quite right for you. A bit
- 26:10Speaker 1: of a unique story coming through right now. We're talking
- 26:12Speaker 1: about rejection, OK, all inspired by this guy, this man
- 26:16Speaker 1: here from Singapore, who graduated with a Harvard PhD after
- 26:20Speaker 1: experiencing rejection by other local universities. I guess, you know,
- 26:24Speaker 1: sometimes when you look at your grades, just upfront, I've
- 26:28Speaker 1: experienced that kind of rejection before, right?
- 26:30Speaker 1: But unfortunately, it is what it is. If the school
- 26:33Speaker 1: has a cutoff point, if they're very strict about it, yeah,
- 26:36Speaker 1: maybe there's no chance for me at that point. But we,
- 26:39Speaker 1: we succeed in our own ways and maybe some of
- 26:41Speaker 1: us also take a little bit more time to, to,
- 26:44Speaker 1: you know, um, discover our strengths, right? We don't all
- 26:47Speaker 1: bloom at the same time. You know what I mean?
- 26:49Speaker 1: Anyway, um, interesting rejection story here coming through from C.
- 26:53Speaker 1: You didn't quite, you didn't leave your full name. He
- 26:55Speaker 1: said just call you by the letter C. That's probably
- 26:57Speaker 1: your initial. He said, Morning, Sonia. I'm the one that
- 27:00Speaker 1: carried out the rejection. This happened years ago when this
- 27:04Speaker 1: guy asked me out and I fully told him, unfortunately,
- 27:08Speaker 1: I'm not interested. It carried on for a bit because
- 27:11Speaker 1: we were already friends at the time and I actually
- 27:13Speaker 1: felt like, hey, you know what, I don't want to
- 27:14Speaker 1: ruin this friendship.
- 27:16Speaker 1: But fast forward 6 years later, we just got engaged recently. OK, see, congratulations. Um,
- 27:23Speaker 1: you carried on to say, also we're both celebrating our
- 27:26Speaker 1: big 30 this year. We're turning 30 this year, entering
- 27:30Speaker 1: the next phase of our lives. I could not be
- 27:33Speaker 1: happier because that rejection led to a lifetime of happiness.
- 27:37Speaker 1: I'm just so curious, how did you get convinced in
- 27:39Speaker 1: the end? Did you just go like, OK, maybe just
- 27:41Speaker 1: give this guy a chance or what, you know?
- 27:43Speaker 1: I mean, some of the best love stories come from
- 27:46Speaker 1: uncertainty in the beginning or rejection and you laugh about
- 27:49Speaker 1: it at the end, right? I'm sure this is gonna
- 27:51Speaker 1: come up in your wedding speech as well.
- 27:53Speaker 1: In, in the future. Um, is it gonna be a
- 27:56Speaker 1: 2026 wedding as well? So many weddings happening this year. Yeah.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Let me know if you ever need any help, OK?
- 28:03Speaker 1: I mean, not that I can help you plan your wedding,
- 28:05Speaker 1: but if you have any questions, let me know. Hey, um,
- 28:09Speaker 1: message here coming through from, oh, you didn't leave your
- 28:12Speaker 1: name as well.
- 28:13Speaker 1: Um, gonna just call you, oh, we, you said, hey, morning, Sonia.
- 28:17Speaker 1: This story dates back many years ago but still stays
- 28:19Speaker 1: in my memory. I received my A-level results and applied
- 28:23Speaker 1: for an overseas scholarship with a local ministry.
- 28:26Speaker 1: During the interview, within the first minutes after I sat down,
- 28:30Speaker 1: the panel immediately said, unfortunately, we don't think we can
- 28:34Speaker 1: give you an overseas scholarship because of your grades. I
- 28:38Speaker 1: felt almost lousy straight away. The saving grace was, which
- 28:42Speaker 1: was a huge one, midway, they actually ascertained that I
- 28:46Speaker 1: seemed decent enough for this scholarship instead.
- 28:49Speaker 1: So, sure enough, I was given one, a local scholarship,
- 28:53Speaker 1: which I'm forever thankful and grateful for and made my mom,
- 28:56Speaker 1: who was widowed at that time, very, very, very proud.
- 29:00Speaker 1: By the way, I am still serving in said ministry. OK.
- 29:04Speaker 1: So my point is, when a door closes in your face,
- 29:07Speaker 1: be patient and a window may still be available. Oh, we,
- 29:11Speaker 1: I really like this story. Thank you.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Thank you so much for sharing that with me. Um,
- 29:14Speaker 1: more stories of rejection coming through in just a bit.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Please feel free to send me a message or drop
- 29:19Speaker 1: me a call 669-11987 or if a message is better
- 29:23Speaker 1: for you, 90050987. Let me know about a story of rejection,
- 29:30Speaker 1: something that you've experienced before and what you learned from it.
- 29:32Speaker 1: In exchange your $100 dining experience to La Palm.
- 29:35Speaker 1: Us over at level 33 of Courtyard by Marriott Singapore Novena.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Time for your last two messages before I wrap it up.
- 29:42Speaker 1: I've got some visitors coming to the studio very soon
- 29:45Speaker 1: from Nan Poly, all the details later on. But first,
- 29:48Speaker 1: we're talking about rejection that could come in any way,
- 29:50Speaker 1: shape or form, right? Rejection in terms of school, your job, relationships.
- 29:55Speaker 1: I mean, we had a wide variety of stories this morning.
- 29:58Speaker 1: I'm going to end it here with a text from Nick.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Nick just sent this through and he said, morning, Sonia.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Happy Monday. This topic got my mind thinking.
- 30:08Speaker 1: I'm in sales and business development role since I started working.
- 30:11Speaker 1: From retail, outdoor sales to corporate sales, I've had to
- 30:15Speaker 1: deal with rejections at almost a daily basis. I thought
- 30:19Speaker 1: I'd be used to it, but every time I lose
- 30:20Speaker 1: a deal or a pitch, of course, I still get
- 30:22Speaker 1: discouraged and affected. I will take time to assess where
- 30:25Speaker 1: I went wrong and remind myself of the errors, but
- 30:28Speaker 1: still keep going. Have a great week ahead. Thank you, Nick.
- 30:31Speaker 1: This is a, this is a great reminder, you know,
- 30:33Speaker 1: because for us as well in this industry, um,
- 30:36Speaker 1: A lot of the rejection, let's say if we don't
- 30:39Speaker 1: get a particular job or we don't get hired for something,
- 30:41Speaker 1: it gets very tied to our own.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Personal feelings, you know, we just feel like, uh, am
- 30:47Speaker 1: I not good enough? And it really takes a stab
- 30:50Speaker 1: at your ego sometimes, right? And your, and your pride
- 30:52Speaker 1: in your work, especially if you love what you do. So,
- 30:55Speaker 1: I completely feel you and I understand what you mean,
- 30:57Speaker 1: but if you're tuning in now, here's some encouragement and
- 31:00Speaker 1: support coming your way, big hugs. Rejection is a part
- 31:04Speaker 1: of life, and we may experience it today, tomorrow, next month,
- 31:07Speaker 1: maybe we experienced a big one last year, you never know.
- 31:10Speaker 1: But I'm here to give you some encouragement for your workday.
- 31:13Speaker 1: At least have a fantastic week ahead. When we come back,
- 31:16Speaker 1: one person is walking away with this beautiful experience thanks
- 31:19Speaker 1: to La Palmas over at level 33 of Courtyard by
- 31:22Speaker 1: Marriott Singapore Novena. They're offering stunning sunset views and it's
- 31:26Speaker 1: almost like a Palm Spring inspired escape in the heart
- 31:29Speaker 1: of the city.
- 31:30Speaker 1: That's, uh, that's why their name, I'm assuming, and they
- 31:32Speaker 1: even have some happy hour treats as well. I'll tell
- 31:35Speaker 1: you more about them. You can also visit their website
- 31:38Speaker 1: www.LAS P A L P A S P A L
- 31:43Speaker 1: M A S, pardon me, bar.
- 31:45Speaker 1: dot com. That's La Palmasbar.com. Illusion right here on 987,
- 31:50Speaker 1: Singapore's number one hit music station. Thanks for joining me
- 31:53Speaker 1: this morning. I wonder where she's going for her honeymoon.
- 31:56Speaker 1: I mean, she's already having a wedding party, right? Like
- 31:59Speaker 1: over in Europe right now, so.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Um, I, I'm sure she's gonna stick around that area.
- 32:03Speaker 1: She is like the queen of Euro Summer, that's for sure,
- 32:05Speaker 1: Dua Lipa. Anyway, only one person can walk away with
- 32:08Speaker 1: this beautiful dining experience thanks to La Palmas over at
- 32:12Speaker 1: level 33 of Courtyard by Marriott Singapore Novena. Really hope
- 32:16Speaker 1: that you enjoyed this one. We, congratulations, you are today's winner.
- 32:21Speaker 1: You told us about your um story back from your
- 32:24Speaker 1: A-level results applying for overseas scholarship. You didn't get accepted,
- 32:29Speaker 1: but you got offered a local scholarship which changed your,
- 32:33Speaker 1: your trajectory of life and you still work for this
- 32:36Speaker 1: particular ministry till now. Congratulations. That's great. Points for loyalty.
- 32:41Speaker 1: And you also get this beautiful dining experience worth 100 bucks.
- 32:44Speaker 1: If you're planning a celebration, maybe, you know, birthday, um,
- 32:47Speaker 1: they actually offer private and exclusive event spaces as well
- 32:50Speaker 1: for cocktail parties, um, complete with stunning sunset views, your
- 32:54Speaker 1: skyline scenery, and of course, our friends over at Courtyard
- 32:58Speaker 1: by Marriott Singapore Novena, they are going to give you.
- 33:01Speaker 1: The best service as well. So I really hope that
- 33:03Speaker 1: you enjoy it and you can even enjoy some great
- 33:06Speaker 1: drink deals. They've got happy hour from Tuesdays to Thursdays. Um,
- 33:09Speaker 1: I think they've got different deals as well. $10 spirits
- 33:13Speaker 1: with mixers, 50% off every second signature cocktail, and many more.
- 33:17Speaker 1: So please enjoy your time over there. But I've officially
- 33:19Speaker 1: replaced Joakim with like 10 people from Radio Heatwave Neon Poly.
- 33:26Speaker 1: I know it's a little early, but they're giving me
- 33:27Speaker 1: all the energy they can right now, but in just
- 33:29Speaker 1: a while, they're gonna nominate someone to go on air.
- 33:32Speaker 1: Can you shout out who is gonna go on air
- 33:33Speaker 1: in just a bit?
- 33:36Speaker 1: All right. OK, I think they've selected their, um, the
- 33:39Speaker 1: person that they want to represent Radio Heatwave for on
- 33:42Speaker 1: air in just a little bit. So we'll find out
- 33:44Speaker 1: whether he has what it takes to be on 987
- 33:46Speaker 1: in the future, maybe take this as an unofficial audition, right?
- 33:49Speaker 1: You never know. Now, this is not exactly fresh food.
- 33:51Speaker 1: News, but I just wanted to give a big shout
- 33:54Speaker 1: out to, uh, something that I mentioned just last week.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Tap Tap Treats opening a physical shop, and I didn't
- 34:00Speaker 1: realize that it's right opposite one of my best friend's places.
- 34:03Speaker 1: So yesterday when we went to play paddle, she actually
- 34:05Speaker 1: went to buy it over at the East Coast, um,
- 34:09Speaker 1: East Coast store. They opened a new one there recently.
- 34:12Speaker 1: It was a home-based business before that.
- 34:14Speaker 1: They supposedly sell the best pandan cake in Singapore, right?
- 34:17Speaker 1: And I now have to agree, it was so soft, fluffy,
- 34:20Speaker 1: moist at the same time that Gula Malaka, um, syrup
- 34:23Speaker 1: that they added included. It made all the difference. So
- 34:27Speaker 1: I have to say, um, tried and tested. I was
- 34:29Speaker 1: not paid to say this. My friend herself, she's like
- 34:32Speaker 1: a regular customer now. She loves it and says they
- 34:35Speaker 1: have other treats there that are really good too. So, um, yay. More,
- 34:39Speaker 1: more reason to come and visit East Coast, that's for sure.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Anyway, we'll be back to our lovely students from Neon
- 34:46Speaker 1: Poly's Radio Heatwave in just a little bit. Meantime, we've
- 34:49Speaker 1: got Ariana Grande and Chaperone lined up for our 10
- 34:52Speaker 1: students from Neon Poly.
- 34:55Speaker 1: So I, I'm gonna leave and take a short break
- 34:58Speaker 1: for a bit. I'm gonna go make some coffee. I
- 35:00Speaker 1: want to go use the restroom. So I'm gonna leave
- 35:03Speaker 1: it in the good hands of the neon poly students.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Hopefully nothing goes wrong there. So please keep an eye
- 35:08Speaker 1: out for them for me.
- 35:09Speaker 2: You
- 35:10Speaker 2: just heard Already Know by The Chainsmokers on Singapore's number
- 35:12Speaker 2: one hit music station 987 FM with Sonia leaving, I'm,
- 35:16Speaker 2: I'm Razin from Radio Heatwave, and Radio Heatwave is near
- 35:19Speaker 2: student-run campus radio station, and we are excited to be
- 35:22Speaker 2: bringing a little bit of
- 35:23Speaker 2: Campus life to 987. Funny story, I actually met Joakim
- 35:26Speaker 2: at the, at Mapletree Business Center and now I'm currently
- 35:29Speaker 2: sat in his chair. Unfortunately, he's not here today.
- 35:31Speaker 1: We're
- 35:32Speaker 1: on to group two of Neon Polly's radio heatwave today.
- 35:36Speaker 1: Do you have better energy than group one?
- 35:40Speaker 1: OK, a bit of a friendly competition going on here,
- 35:42Speaker 1: but yeah, I didn't expect such a big massive group
- 35:45Speaker 1: to join us today, but this could be, these could
- 35:47Speaker 1: be the voices of your future DJs. You never know, right?
- 35:50Speaker 1: So I have one question for the students here. Who
- 35:53Speaker 1: are you nominating to go live on air after this? Aaah. OK,
- 35:59Speaker 1: so is Aaliyah the most extroverted, most, I don't know,
- 36:03Speaker 1: funny person in your group, you would say? Yes, OK, OK.
- 36:06Speaker 1: What is up everyone? I'm Alia, a year 3 mass
- 36:09Speaker 1: communication student from Ni An Polytechnic.
- 36:12Speaker 1: And today I'm really, really excited because I'm with my
- 36:15Speaker 1: friends from Radio Heatwave, the hottest thing on campus and
- 36:19Speaker 1: Ni An's very own campus radio station. So we are
- 36:23Speaker 1: here for a studio visit in night 7 and I
- 36:26Speaker 1: would just like to give a big shout out to
- 36:29Speaker 1: Sonia Chew for giving me and my friends a huge
- 36:31Speaker 1: opportunity to visit Night 7 Station and
- 36:35Speaker 1: I can't lie. I'm really, really nervous right now. Like
- 36:37Speaker 1: my hands are shaking because I'm tasked to give a
- 36:41Speaker 1: talk set, but I'm very honored to do that because
- 36:44Speaker 1: there's not many chances for you to do that. And yes,
- 36:47Speaker 1: I'm really, really happy to be here. So thank you
- 36:49Speaker 1: for that, Sonia. What a fun show. Um, and I
- 36:53Speaker 1: just want to give a big shout out to the
- 36:54Speaker 1: students of Neon Poly for coming down.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Um, as you know, I'm also from Neam Poly, so
- 36:59Speaker 1: I might be a little bit biased, but I really
- 37:01Speaker 1: love my time there, and it's always a good time
- 37:04Speaker 1: connecting with the students that are still there right now
- 37:07Speaker 1: that are interested in the media industry. So if you
- 37:10Speaker 1: ever feel like your classmates or you, you're interested to
- 37:14Speaker 1: come down for a studio visit, we are open for that.
- 37:16Speaker 1: And Joe Kim and I would love to, to catch
- 37:18Speaker 1: you here as well. So it'd be great, OK?
