- 0:38Speaker 4: I'll tell you that much.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Leo Gonzalez, Uh, welcome to those amigo in the house.

- 0:57Speaker 3: many that don't get any laps, but welcome man, welcome
- 1:05Speaker 3: having heard And I just want to do a quick
- 1:07Speaker 3: little bragget you know and and uh intro to you
- 1:11Speaker 3: because uh, Leo, I I've I've known about you for
- 1:15Speaker 3: a very long time. I came across your your content,
- 1:19Speaker 3: uh a very long time ago, and uh very quickly
- 1:22Speaker 3: then I shared it with my friends, and very quickly
- 1:24Speaker 3: I I I subscribe to it, and then I show
- 1:27Speaker 3: my wife and like, did you see this one?
- 1:28Speaker 4: That you see this one?
- 1:30Speaker 3: You are very very talented performer, and I can only
- 1:34Speaker 3: describe it as a great actor, because I think that's
- 1:37Speaker 3: more important to say. You know, there is like content
- 1:39Speaker 3: creators and influencers. You're just beyond that to me. You know,
- 1:43Speaker 3: you're not on the LA base, so like l A
- 1:46Speaker 3: you know, La Rosa stand up you know. But I
- 1:48Speaker 3: but I also recognize that you know, you you self
- 1:53Speaker 3: made an opportunity for yourself and carve the space for
- 1:55Speaker 3: you that only you can really perform in.
- 1:58Speaker 4: And uh, there's not another Gonzalees, you know.
- 2:01Speaker 3: And I think the idea that there we get to
- 2:04Speaker 3: have a show where we can just give you some
- 2:05Speaker 3: flowers is super dope.
- 2:07Speaker 4: And look, I think your grind is undeniable.
- 2:09Speaker 1: You know.
- 2:10Speaker 3: For those of you who know you online, they they
- 2:12Speaker 3: have laughed with you, They've they've seen you grow, they've
- 2:14Speaker 3: seen you evolved, and now you're on to do some
- 2:16Speaker 3: really big things. And and I wanted to highlight those things, man,
- 2:20Speaker 3: because I feel proud to see another fellow comedian you
- 2:25Speaker 3: know that that basically puts himself in the game and
- 2:28Speaker 3: that's hard, right because you're knock on doors. But you
- 2:30Speaker 3: decided to just make your own house. Now they're knocking
- 2:34Speaker 3: on your door to try to be in your business.
- 2:37Speaker 4: So that's that's exciting. And then this is fred Rodriguez.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Then Freddy, what do you have to say?
- 2:47Speaker 5: Yo?
- 2:47Speaker 6: Man?
- 2:48Speaker 1: And congrats up.
- 2:49Speaker 6: You know, before you walked in here, Wimer was telling
- 2:51Speaker 6: me about the stuff that you do on and and
- 2:54Speaker 6: I think your trajectory has been so fascinating to me.
- 2:57Speaker 6: What little I know and what little I've read, but
- 2:59Speaker 6: I'd love to jump into that.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Man.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Where where are you from? Where were you born?
- 3:04Speaker 2: Born in Hanford, calveard of Hanford, California.
- 3:06Speaker 1: No, no, where is that?
- 3:07Speaker 2: It's three hours away. It's near Fresno. Okay, yeah you
- 3:12Speaker 2: should come by, love it with a little barbecue outside.
- 3:21Speaker 6: No.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm from there and I moved to LA during
- 3:24Speaker 2: the pandemic like five five years ago.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Where where are your parents from?
- 3:28Speaker 2: Juan? My dad and my mom's family from Trunck.
- 3:31Speaker 6: Gun and and uh and they were born there and
- 3:34Speaker 6: went to northern California.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Yeah, my my my mom was my mom's from here
- 3:39Speaker 2: from women and then and and then and then my dad, Uh,
- 3:43Speaker 2: he's there, and then he went back to Mexico. Yeah,
- 3:46Speaker 2: but he comes back and forth?
- 3:48Speaker 6: And so did did did I read write?
- 3:51Speaker 1: You were?
- 3:52Speaker 6: You were a journalist first, So so take me through
- 3:55Speaker 6: the trajectory of how your parents go from Mexico to
- 3:58Speaker 6: northern California and then you were Latino, which I'm very
- 4:02Speaker 6: proud of whenever I see Latinos like you and who
- 4:05Speaker 6: go for professions like journalism and stuff that traditionally would
- 4:10Speaker 6: probably not have our people in it, right, Like, how
- 4:12Speaker 6: did that journey go from Northern California to journalism?
- 4:16Speaker 2: I mean, I'm obsessed with with with storytelling. I think,
- 4:21Speaker 2: like I do you remember? I mean, you know Anne Curry, right,
- 4:25Speaker 2: Like I was obsessed with her growing up because I
- 4:30Speaker 2: love I love She's so bad like everything, like everything
- 4:35Speaker 2: that she did. I was like, damn, like I believe her.
- 4:37Speaker 2: The way that she tells that person's story is is
- 4:43Speaker 2: is the way it should be told, you know? And
- 4:46Speaker 2: and I was and I thought from an early age,
- 4:48Speaker 2: I was like I want to I want to defend
- 4:50Speaker 2: someone because I feel like that was like journalism is
- 4:53Speaker 2: defending truth, that situation, that truth, that that journey, and
- 4:59Speaker 2: I'll like I want to do that what Anne is doing,
- 5:02Speaker 2: and and and so that's what I wanted forever. And
- 5:06Speaker 2: so when I was a little kid, I we had
- 5:12Speaker 2: in my hometown there's a lady that went missing. It's
- 5:14Speaker 2: a small city. It's like, you know, fifty five thousand
- 5:18Speaker 2: people wish and and and a lady went missing. And
- 5:22Speaker 2: so all the news was coming to town daily, and
- 5:27Speaker 2: I just was I was running to the news trucks.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I was like, I just want to see them go live,
- 5:32Speaker 2: you know I did. It was so sick to like
- 5:34Speaker 2: see to see this thing like right there, and and
- 5:37Speaker 2: and so as soon as I graduated school, I went
- 5:41Speaker 2: to UH to Eureka, to Humboldt. I spent a year
- 5:45Speaker 2: a little over a year there and and got my
- 5:50Speaker 2: first job doing like master control in a TV station.
- 5:53Speaker 2: And then from there I kind of went back to
- 5:55Speaker 2: friends of my mom, got sick. I went back got
- 5:58Speaker 2: a job at on NBC on for a few years
- 6:00Speaker 2: as a as a photographer. And I loved it, you know,
- 6:03Speaker 2: because it's like because like I don't know how, you
- 6:06Speaker 2: know what I mean, Like when it's on and then
- 6:09Speaker 2: like the other four channels are the English ones, like
- 6:12Speaker 2: this is ours like this is our like, this is
- 6:15Speaker 2: their safety and the communication to like, you know safety,
- 6:20Speaker 2: it's an institution.
- 6:21Speaker 3: I mean you turn on that TV. You turn on
- 6:23Speaker 3: that channel and he's on twenty four to seven. You
- 6:25Speaker 3: don't change the channel.
- 6:28Speaker 6: Yeah, and probably something your parents as you were growing
- 6:31Speaker 6: up were watching, right, And then all of a sudden,
- 6:33Speaker 6: here you are like working there.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Yeah, so you look at like, you know, the anchor
- 6:37Speaker 2: that he's still the anchor and he was the anchor
- 6:40Speaker 2: when I was a little kid. So now I like
- 6:43Speaker 2: get a job there and he's my I'm like working
- 6:46Speaker 2: with one of my heroes, you know, and every day.
- 6:49Speaker 2: And he's a bad guy now I imagine, no, no, no, no,
- 6:53Speaker 2: I know he's and he's even better than I you know,
- 6:56Speaker 2: imagined and now and and he's and he's and it
- 7:00Speaker 2: was amazing because he was being for real, like it
- 7:03Speaker 2: wasn't like a it wasn't like an act. It wasn't
- 7:06Speaker 2: like it was really cares and being the one that
- 7:12Speaker 2: that translates the scary stuff, you know, And so that
- 7:15Speaker 2: was special. And so I was there for a while
- 7:18Speaker 2: and then I went to Reno and and it was
- 7:22Speaker 2: at a different news station, and and that's where I
- 7:24Speaker 2: was when I when I started, when I did my
- 7:27Speaker 2: first skit, I had no intention of doing any sort
- 7:30Speaker 2: of skit. Ever.
- 7:31Speaker 4: What was that skin?
- 7:33Speaker 2: It was a news reporter skit because I had just
- 7:37Speaker 2: graduated school.
- 7:37Speaker 3: And Bro, and I just just take a second, Bro,
- 7:40Speaker 3: because you have nailed that character on levels. That is
- 7:44Speaker 3: so really it's so comedic, it's so funny, it's awesome.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Right yeah, but when you really look at the nu ounces,
- 7:53Speaker 3: the beats, the process. I remember there one where like
- 7:57Speaker 3: there was a delay. Oh you know, the delay and
- 7:59Speaker 3: the and all of the little things. You knew that
- 8:02Speaker 3: you were coming from such a truthful place that you
- 8:05Speaker 3: just knew what it was like to actually be the
- 8:07Speaker 3: guy on that camera.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Was it was it modeled after anybody? They care all
- 8:11Speaker 1: of them.
- 8:14Speaker 2: No, I mean there's there's I mean to this day,
- 8:17Speaker 2: I watch every single day. I'm like, I'm a fan.
- 8:20Speaker 2: You know, I don't watch any movies or TV shows.
- 8:23Speaker 2: I watch Good Morning America, you know, and like I love,
- 8:27Speaker 2: like there's people that I like watching, Like, oh, Rachel
- 8:30Speaker 2: Scott is on right now. Yeah, you know, Martha Raddits
- 8:34Speaker 2: is on right now, Like you know, gave good tierras
- 8:37Speaker 2: and and like, those are the people, and so, I mean,
- 8:40Speaker 2: they're all, they're all like nuances that I've like, i mean,
- 8:42Speaker 2: I've studied these people forever on a local level and
- 8:46Speaker 2: a national level, and I'm I'm very judgmental, you know,
- 8:48Speaker 2: I critique it.
- 8:49Speaker 3: Yeah, what's the common denominator? Like, what's one thing that
- 8:52Speaker 3: you're like, Oh, they all do this, they all.
- 8:54Speaker 2: They all have just like the way that they do
- 8:58Speaker 2: like a little you know the movie their heads.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Yeah, when they're listening or where they're like clicking between
- 9:04Speaker 3: you know.
- 9:05Speaker 2: My favorite is when they're about to go, when they're
- 9:08Speaker 2: about to get tossed to and the person is reading
- 9:11Speaker 2: their intro and they're like right right, yeah, Joey, you know,
- 9:18Speaker 2: and they like and they dip into the words.
- 9:23Speaker 6: Do you think that's that's purposeful or do you think
- 9:26Speaker 6: that's just Yeah, I think it is.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Let me let me pretend like I'm like revving up
- 9:30Speaker 1: to like, yeah, I think.
- 9:32Speaker 2: It's part of what makes them feel like, Yeah, they're all.
- 9:38Speaker 2: They're all. They're all going off of the last person
- 9:41Speaker 2: that they saw. And I and I also am critique
- 9:45Speaker 2: critique is sometimes I'm like sometimes I'm like, you know,
- 9:49Speaker 2: it's funny, but sometimes like you should not do the voice.
- 9:53Speaker 4: Right, I just talk like yourself, just.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Talk normally like some people do, like that little that
- 9:59Speaker 2: little voice thing like it was too fun. I'm like,
- 10:00Speaker 2: all right, what you're someone's family just died. Maybe you
- 10:04Speaker 2: should not do the voice. Maybe you should try to
- 10:06Speaker 2: know it sounds that cool, you know.
- 10:09Speaker 3: But you know, I just thought the other day I
- 10:11Speaker 3: was in I was in New York and I did
- 10:13Speaker 3: some press junket this week and I went to a
- 10:16Speaker 3: to a few you know, Latino publications and Longst Shore
- 10:21Speaker 3: and I, you know, I did like the you know
- 10:23Speaker 3: that the Today Show and CBS Mornings and whatever, and
- 10:26Speaker 3: then I went to the Latino stuff.
- 10:27Speaker 4: And I remember it was while I was sitting waiting
- 10:30Speaker 4: to do my interview, I.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Watched Interest or whatever and and I and I always
- 10:34Speaker 3: wonder why they always sound like this.
- 10:38Speaker 4: When it will met Valderrama like what like soccer, but.
- 10:47Speaker 3: It's it's like, okays, bien el puerto, like but what.
- 10:56Speaker 4: That like you know, I'm kind of nailing it.
- 10:58Speaker 6: Like it's like like that does.
- 11:08Speaker 3: And that's so then like you you start seeing a
- 11:10Speaker 3: lot of them, like becomes the second issue. And I'm like,
- 11:14Speaker 3: I wonder if that's how you get people to remember
- 11:16Speaker 3: what you're saying, Like, is there a tactic?
- 11:18Speaker 4: Is that a science?
- 11:19Speaker 3: Is that like a thing they teach, like you got
- 11:21Speaker 3: to get people to remember the operator moments and nothing.
- 11:24Speaker 4: I don't know, but they just talk.
- 11:26Speaker 2: I mean, it's iconic enough that we talk about it, right, Yes,
- 11:29Speaker 2: you know that's it. I went to and they and
- 11:34Speaker 2: and I'm like, I want I was like curious, like
- 11:36Speaker 2: how do you guys do the voice over? You know,
- 11:38Speaker 2: like you know, like that type of thing, like the
- 11:45Speaker 2: way that they like, the way that they you know,
- 11:50Speaker 2: I'm like, damn, yeah, that's bro easy.
- 12:03Speaker 6: How were you on this path to journalism? And then
- 12:06Speaker 6: one day you decided to do a skit.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Because I I, there's this there's this the creator whose
- 12:15Speaker 2: name is Adam, who does these videos that I saw.
- 12:18Speaker 2: And when I was working, because I was content, I
- 12:20Speaker 2: was I was perfectly like.
- 12:22Speaker 1: And you were doing photography in Reno.
- 12:24Speaker 2: I was a PA. So I was doing the graphics,
- 12:26Speaker 2: the tele a problem through all that stuff, and I
- 12:28Speaker 2: loved it. And I and you know, I had just
- 12:30Speaker 2: gone over like a like a like a really hard
- 12:35Speaker 2: year and and and so I was like very content
- 12:39Speaker 2: I'm doing. I was doing Instacart delivery during the pandemic.
- 12:44Speaker 5: Yeah and uh and uh and then uh uh door
- 12:49Speaker 5: dash and people were tipping and I you know what
- 12:52Speaker 5: I mean, Like I love delivering because like I eat
- 12:55Speaker 5: their ass, like when I show up, I'm like, I'm like, oh,
- 12:58Speaker 5: I got the eggs right on top up there.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Love you know, like treat them how yeah, yeah, thank
- 13:04Speaker 2: you so much. With my mask, I'm like walking with
- 13:06Speaker 2: a limp. And and so I was getting tipped good
- 13:10Speaker 2: and uh and I was doing I felt good about
- 13:13Speaker 2: everything and and and so anyways, I see this this
- 13:17Speaker 2: TikTok er Adam and I see his videos and I
- 13:20Speaker 2: was like, I need to I need to download TikTok
- 13:22Speaker 2: because they were on Twitter and and I just kept watching.
- 13:26Speaker 2: He's so funny, he's so creative and and I'd never
- 13:29Speaker 2: seen someone do such a such a Mexican comedy in
- 13:36Speaker 2: such a real way, because there's a lot of people
- 13:37Speaker 2: that do like, you know, very animated comedy and very
- 13:43Speaker 2: like dramatic situations. Yeah, and and I and I've just
- 13:47Speaker 2: never related to that, like I love like the dry,
- 13:50Speaker 2: little tiny things, and he did that tiny stuff a
- 13:52Speaker 2: lot I gotta download TikTok and so I downloaded it.
- 13:56Speaker 2: And then one day right after, I got rejected from
- 13:58Speaker 2: the state because I i it was a PA but
- 14:03Speaker 2: I had applied to be a reporter right when I
- 14:05Speaker 2: got my degree and they rejected me. And so then
- 14:08Speaker 2: I was like, all right, let me just do a
- 14:09Speaker 2: skit pretending to be a reporter. And then after that
- 14:12Speaker 2: it like changed, it flipped everything. Wow. After that, I
- 14:15Speaker 2: was like, oh, like, you know, and that was like
- 14:19Speaker 2: my first day. I got like thirty thousand followers and
- 14:22Speaker 2: I never had followers. I've never had anything. I never
- 14:25Speaker 2: had a first yet.
- 14:28Speaker 4: What was the content of the first cast?
- 14:29Speaker 2: It was it was me impersonating the delay. It was
- 14:33Speaker 2: it was on the green screen. I've never used a
- 14:36Speaker 2: green screen before. I used the weather wall at work
- 14:39Speaker 2: and then he shot it at work, No no, no,
- 14:42Speaker 2: in at the at the Renal one, which is one
- 14:46Speaker 2: of the English networks. Yeah, and and we had like
- 14:51Speaker 2: three hours of a break because of the you know,
- 14:53Speaker 2: the newscasting, and nobody was in the studio, so I
- 14:56Speaker 2: would just be in there just doing my little you know.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Yeah and uh and yeah. So that that after that
- 15:05Speaker 2: one got that traction I was like, damn, I got
- 15:07Speaker 2: a lot of things that you guys might like, and
- 15:09Speaker 2: so I kept putting more, and then next day another
- 15:11Speaker 2: a few thousand followers and and.
- 15:14Speaker 1: The same character did you did you try?
- 15:16Speaker 2: I was doing news, and then I was like, I'll
- 15:19Speaker 2: try this one too. Yeah, it was like a dad
- 15:22Speaker 2: or like you know, it's like a teacher, and then oh,
- 15:24Speaker 2: then I did a teacher one, and then that one
- 15:27Speaker 2: was like my next mountain, and then after and then
- 15:31Speaker 2: there you know, and and not ever knowing this type
- 15:34Speaker 2: of world, I was like, I then it got like
- 15:37Speaker 2: it started getting posted on like mean pages, and I
- 15:41Speaker 2: was like damn, Like I'm like, I'm on the snapchat homepage,
- 15:45Speaker 2: like it was so weird. And that all happened like
- 15:50Speaker 2: starting May of twenty twenty through like July August October,
- 15:56Speaker 2: I take a trip to La to collab with two
- 16:00Speaker 2: two people that were also doing comedy skits. I never
- 16:03Speaker 2: collapsed with anybody.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I've never done anything before.
- 16:06Speaker 2: No, I still wanted to report at that time, but
- 16:10Speaker 2: I was just like, this is a fun hobby and
- 16:13Speaker 2: and I came I met these two guys and and
- 16:16Speaker 2: that day I was like I don't know, I feel
- 16:18Speaker 2: like I have to be in la like genuinely, not
- 16:20Speaker 2: even like as a pick me, like I don't know,
- 16:22Speaker 2: I know, like genuinely like I didn't. I was like
- 16:25Speaker 2: I kind of like something is pooling me. And those
- 16:29Speaker 2: two guys, one was living in uh in t O
- 16:32Speaker 2: like like Newbury Park, and the other one was in Venice,
- 16:36Speaker 2: and they both wanted to move out of home and
- 16:40Speaker 2: and and so we got a place in Crenshaw. I've
- 16:42Speaker 2: never been to Crenshaw. And and we got an apartment
- 16:46Speaker 2: there and the living room was just a green screen
- 16:50Speaker 2: with like two like poles, like it was very like
- 16:53Speaker 2: just taped up. And I got like two ring lins
- 16:56Speaker 2: like you know. And every day was doing skits. Every day,
- 17:00Speaker 2: I was writing random things.
- 17:02Speaker 3: But did you create kind of like a work flow
- 17:04Speaker 3: for you You're like from nine to you know, twelve,
- 17:07Speaker 3: I'm gonna do this many sketch and then take a break,
- 17:10Speaker 3: do some more stuff right, and then.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Go do door dash and then come back. Because I
- 17:14Speaker 2: was like I just told myself, I was like I
- 17:16Speaker 2: don't want to I don't want to have a job,
- 17:19Speaker 2: and then not be able to do it, and then
- 17:21Speaker 2: I lost the plot. You know, I'm like let me
- 17:24Speaker 2: just do that, make a little money, and then like
- 17:25Speaker 2: and then at the time TikTok was you know, they
- 17:27Speaker 2: were paying they paid their paint creators, and so I
- 17:30Speaker 2: was like making some money on there. I was like
- 17:32Speaker 2: and I got my first brandy. And then after I
- 17:34Speaker 2: was like, oh.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Oh, here we go, We're in business.
- 17:37Speaker 6: I have a right, that's great, that's incredible. What an
- 17:42Speaker 6: incredible journey, right, Like how just when it's right right?
- 17:48Speaker 3: Yeah, you mentioned a lot of you know, different instincts
- 17:52Speaker 3: that were just evolving within you. Every time you will
- 17:55Speaker 3: see a person or a character or somebody that worked
- 17:58Speaker 3: through your life and then you do a video for it.
- 18:00Speaker 6: You know.
- 18:00Speaker 4: I remember you some of the restaurants.
- 18:02Speaker 3: The ordering at a restaurant was hilarious, and the person
- 18:05Speaker 3: is waiting for you to finish ordering, but they you know,
- 18:08Speaker 3: every time the person gets to the register, they've had
- 18:10Speaker 3: like they've had ten minutes in line, and then when
- 18:12Speaker 3: they get there, they just don't know what they want. Yeah,
- 18:16Speaker 3: you know, so that stuff felt like it's such a
- 18:19Speaker 3: kind of human experiment, right like you're just you're you're
- 18:21Speaker 3: so intuitive to kind of listen, which I think back
- 18:24Speaker 3: to your passion for reporting. Half of the job is
- 18:28Speaker 3: to really listen and understand how to convey what you
- 18:32Speaker 3: what you're receiving to the people at home and to
- 18:35Speaker 3: you know, draw out performances, if you will, or truths
- 18:39Speaker 3: you know, from individuals. Since then, have you gotten the bug?
- 18:44Speaker 3: Just like I'm an actor, that's like, that's what I am.
- 18:48Speaker 2: I want to act, but I haven't called myself that yet.
- 18:53Speaker 3: But you do realize that your sketches are full on
- 18:57Speaker 3: scenes and you're actually I know you're you're improving a
- 19:00Speaker 3: lot of it, but you're actually performing as an actor
- 19:05Speaker 3: in those scenes. And that's one of the reasons why
- 19:07Speaker 3: I appreciated it so much, is because you know, it's
- 19:09Speaker 3: not like you're working for a punchline. You're actually embodying
- 19:14Speaker 3: a character, and you're making that situation not just watchable,
- 19:18Speaker 3: but funny.
- 19:19Speaker 4: And there's a beginning, middle and in to your sketches.
- 19:22Speaker 3: Most things that went viral in the era of influencers
- 19:26Speaker 3: or you know, even viners like Vine, you know, it
- 19:29Speaker 3: was just about like the one face or the one
- 19:31Speaker 3: thing or whatever, you know, but then they started getting
- 19:33Speaker 3: really sophisticated. I think you kind of caught onto that.
- 19:37Speaker 3: Why do you feel like you're hesitanting to call yourself
- 19:39Speaker 3: an actor.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Because I feel like I have to take a class. Though,
- 19:45Speaker 2: you know, I always feel so like I don't know,
- 19:48Speaker 2: you know, a lot of the time, I don't feel
- 19:50Speaker 2: this way necessarily anymore, and I don't mean it in
- 19:54Speaker 2: like to like downplay myself, but sometimes, like people, a
- 20:02Speaker 2: lot of the times, I'm like, I feel like I
- 20:04Speaker 2: cut in line. You know, as a content creator, you
- 20:08Speaker 2: get this constant feeling of like what are you doing here?
- 20:13Speaker 2: You know, like people went to to, uh, you know,
- 20:19Speaker 2: an improv school, they went to UCB, they went to
- 20:22Speaker 2: this and this, and they did drama in school and
- 20:25Speaker 2: then you just step in, you know. So I think
- 20:28Speaker 2: that there's like those parts of it that I've like
- 20:31Speaker 2: kind of like.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Is it that imposter syndrome thing or yeah, cause.
- 20:35Speaker 2: It's like you just you just and then And I
- 20:38Speaker 2: think because it also happened so fast sometimes, I mean
- 20:40Speaker 2: it's been yeah years now, but there's been so many
- 20:44Speaker 2: moments that you just forget it just you were in
- 20:46Speaker 2: it and they were so quick that you don't realize like, oh,
- 20:49Speaker 2: I I did do this, and you do this and
- 20:52Speaker 2: I don't know so and then I realized I did.
- 20:55Speaker 2: I did my first like acting. I mean I did
- 20:59Speaker 2: a few little things before, but I did the show
- 21:02Speaker 2: this full on Hulu and and I thought so natural
- 21:07Speaker 2: in that because I was playing a character that I
- 21:12Speaker 2: played that kind of was in my first year of
- 21:15Speaker 2: TikTok and.
- 21:17Speaker 1: What did you play on this fool?
- 21:21Speaker 2: It was like one of Chris Destrada's friends from high
- 21:25Speaker 2: school or something. I forgot the name, but but it
- 21:29Speaker 2: was so it was so fun and it was the
- 21:32Speaker 2: perfect day, like the perfect day from the top to end.
- 21:36Speaker 2: But then I but then I then I get cast
- 21:39Speaker 2: for the Keanu Reeves movie from last year with with
- 21:45Speaker 2: the Season Sorry, oh yeah, and like the this full
- 21:49Speaker 2: episode was like I did like half the episode. But
- 21:53Speaker 2: then then I do this uh what is it called fortune?
- 22:00Speaker 2: Good Fortune? I'm on there for like eleven seconds, and
- 22:04Speaker 2: it was the hardest thing I've ever done because I
- 22:07Speaker 2: was like, I don't know what I'm doing here, Like
- 22:10Speaker 2: I I literally had.
- 22:11Speaker 3: To you think it was you just telling you, like
- 22:14Speaker 3: these guys have been doing it forever and here I
- 22:16Speaker 3: am like just pretending to do it or is it?
- 22:18Speaker 2: Like I realized, I was like I don't know how
- 22:19Speaker 2: to look like when it's in Provence skits. I know
- 22:24Speaker 2: who I'm impersonating. I know exactly what cashier I'm thinking about.
- 22:29Speaker 2: I know exactly what kind of customer. But then I'm
- 22:31Speaker 2: in this thing and I'm like, I'm a pool guy
- 22:36Speaker 2: with my pool equipment and I delivered my line and
- 22:39Speaker 2: now that he's talking, I don't know what to do
- 22:42Speaker 2: with my face.
- 22:43Speaker 4: Oh interesting?
- 22:44Speaker 2: And I was like, bro. And I remember like after that,
- 22:47Speaker 2: I did a I talked to someone else and I
- 22:50Speaker 2: was like, what do I do with my face? And
- 22:52Speaker 2: They're like, just listen? Yeah, And I was like, all right, cool,
- 22:56Speaker 2: next time?
- 22:56Speaker 1: So what why did you next time?
- 23:01Speaker 4: But is that a reporter thing?
- 23:02Speaker 6: Right?
- 23:02Speaker 3: Like you know, you're you're listening to the words and
- 23:05Speaker 3: you know you're waiting for it to actually you know,
- 23:07Speaker 3: retort the energy, and you're like, you know, it's an
- 23:10Speaker 3: interesting thing.
- 23:10Speaker 4: I I know exactly what you're talking about.
- 23:13Speaker 3: You know, you know there is this kind of little
- 23:17Speaker 3: window when like you're across from an actor who's done
- 23:20Speaker 3: it forever and it comes to so naturally for them,
- 23:22Speaker 3: and they're just flowing with words that are like.
- 23:25Speaker 4: On a page.
- 23:27Speaker 3: You're not just like flowing and just coming up with
- 23:30Speaker 3: something funny and cutting it liter or like you have
- 23:32Speaker 3: like a script and you you know, you're memorizing the script,
- 23:35Speaker 3: and then this other person also memorize the script and
- 23:37Speaker 3: they depend on you to say the line, and you know,
- 23:40Speaker 3: you got to find a rhythm together.
- 23:41Speaker 4: You got to listen to it.
- 23:43Speaker 3: There's a lot of elements that take a lot of practice,
- 23:47Speaker 3: but I think you've had I mean a million hours
- 23:51Speaker 3: of practice and embodying characters. I think probably in that
- 23:54Speaker 3: moment you probably you needed to do is this person?
- 23:56Speaker 2: Yeah, now I think about it, I'm like, let's run
- 23:58Speaker 2: it back right, do it again? And now I know
- 24:01Speaker 2: how to look.
- 24:02Speaker 6: But but why did you feel in this fool that
- 24:04Speaker 6: you knew how to look? But when you did this
- 24:06Speaker 6: movie with Keanu you didn't.
- 24:08Speaker 2: Know because I didn't know who the pool guy was,
- 24:13Speaker 2: Like I need to know who they are, Like does
- 24:15Speaker 2: he have kids? Like does he the younger brother? Is
- 24:18Speaker 2: his older brother in jail? Like I need to know that.
- 24:22Speaker 2: And if I would have known that, then I know
- 24:24Speaker 2: the stakes of what my pool job is. I guess,
- 24:29Speaker 2: and that's what I needed to know. And I think
- 24:31Speaker 2: in this fool, I was like, oh, I'm the I'm
- 24:36Speaker 2: the alcoholic friend who's still stuck on the past that
- 24:41Speaker 2: like I got you know, I can do that, you know,
- 24:43Speaker 2: because even I just did a thing that Eva directed
- 24:48Speaker 2: a few months ago, and that I didn't think I
- 24:51Speaker 2: could do that because that was you know, a major
- 24:54Speaker 2: The person I did it with was those major celebrity Yeah. Ok, yeah,
- 25:00Speaker 2: and I was like, that's crazy, Like I don't know,
- 25:05Speaker 2: but but I knew the character more. And Eva made
- 25:10Speaker 2: me feel sure because I love it, I love him,
- 25:14Speaker 2: and in that situation, I'm like, just let me if
- 25:18Speaker 2: I can, just let me hit the beats and then
- 25:22Speaker 2: just throw some other little words around. And Eva made
- 25:24Speaker 2: me feel so comfortable and give me so much room
- 25:27Speaker 2: for that.
- 25:30Speaker 3: But by the way, just know, that's the hardest thing
- 25:32Speaker 3: to do for an actor. That's the hardest thing to
- 25:35Speaker 3: be free to say. Let me just fly here, let
- 25:38Speaker 3: me make some choices, let me add some blank pages
- 25:41Speaker 3: here and there. That's the thing that makes actors petrified.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Like some of us grew up doing that, right Like,
- 25:47Speaker 3: you know, we've done comedy, we've done drama, and we're
- 25:50Speaker 3: very comfortable flowing because we know these guys that were
- 25:53Speaker 3: playing before we come to set to your point. For
- 25:57Speaker 3: an actor, most actors, the scariest thing to do is
- 26:01Speaker 3: to get off that page. Well, when you get off
- 26:04Speaker 3: that page, everything falls apart for most most people.
- 26:07Speaker 4: So the fact that you're feeling free to flow, you know.
- 26:11Speaker 2: On the page, I'm like, I can we change it.
- 26:15Speaker 3: But then you do it enough that you know how
- 26:16Speaker 3: to like start with the page, go into the whole things,
- 26:20Speaker 3: bring it back to the middle of the page, start
- 26:23Speaker 3: the things, make sure that your partner doesn't you know,
- 26:26Speaker 3: it's not lost, and how to respond to you. You know,
- 26:29Speaker 3: but you're giving them their cues to make sense with
- 26:32Speaker 3: their lines, and that happens over time.
- 26:33Speaker 4: What you're doing, it's amazing.
- 26:35Speaker 3: I mean, like it's your super powered and I think
- 26:37Speaker 3: the more you cultivate that, the more you're going to
- 26:39Speaker 3: you feel you know that you're going to be just flying.
- 26:44Speaker 2: I mean, I'm excited by it because I I think
- 26:49Speaker 2: so much about how much of a different story I
- 26:53Speaker 2: have than some of the people that I've seen in
- 26:59Speaker 2: LA things. You know, I think, like I used to
- 27:03Speaker 2: watch things back then where I'm like, all right, like
- 27:07Speaker 2: another movie about like another part of LA and I'm like,
- 27:11Speaker 2: we're in Fresno. We're over here, We're far away from La.
- 27:14Speaker 2: Like my dad is working in the fields and my
- 27:18Speaker 2: mom's at a tomato plant. Like that's not the same, like,
- 27:20Speaker 2: you know, and I'm like, and so I constantly think
- 27:23Speaker 2: I want to do a project where it feels more
- 27:25Speaker 2: like a Mexican in Yakima, you know, and a different part,
- 27:32Speaker 2: because there's so many things that are the same, but
- 27:35Speaker 2: it's not. It doesn't all feel like LA. And I
- 27:38Speaker 2: think that gave me like doing little things like this,
- 27:41Speaker 2: I'm like, okay, okay, I want I'm trying to you know,
- 27:44Speaker 2: collect more and save us. I introduce my own thing
- 27:47Speaker 2: that feels like like what I know, Yeah, something more familiar.
- 27:52Speaker 3: You realize so much more about Los Angeles that kind
- 27:55Speaker 3: of almost no one is really from Los Angeles, you know.
- 27:58Speaker 3: They're from around Los Angeles and they congregate in Los Angeles.
- 28:01Speaker 3: They commute with the Los Angeles way of life, you know,
- 28:04Speaker 3: but they're from everywhere in the world, everywhere in the
- 28:06Speaker 3: in the country, right, Like everyone moves to Los Angeles
- 28:09Speaker 3: for that dream, right or you know, they commute with
- 28:13Speaker 3: De La for all reasons, you know. But I think,
- 28:15Speaker 3: you know, people think about Los Angeles and they think about
- 28:18Speaker 3: this like the four black radius. It's either downtown in
- 28:20Speaker 3: LA or Hollywood Boulevard that they think that's what LA is.
- 28:24Speaker 3: Around the planet, they think, Oh, it's the stars on
- 28:26Speaker 3: the floor, it's the sign on the on the hill,
- 28:29Speaker 3: you know, And in LA is so much more than that.
- 28:31Speaker 3: To your point, there's so many people that embody with
- 28:34Speaker 3: the culture of the LA and and they all deserve
- 28:38Speaker 3: to be told a story that can also feel mainstream.
- 28:40Speaker 3: And you know, and I think what you're doing is interesting.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Are you are you directing? Are you producing? Is that
- 28:46Speaker 3: something you have passion for it?
- 28:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I haven't started yet. That's why I'm here. Actually, no,
- 28:53Speaker 2: I I I'm developing something right now that I that
- 28:58Speaker 2: I wrote like a year ago. And and so yeah,
- 29:04Speaker 2: it's it's been getting close, right. I have these two
- 29:06Speaker 2: people that I've been working with who who I am
- 29:10Speaker 2: all mysterious and two people I can't say who. But
- 29:16Speaker 2: but it's you know, but it's stuff that I know.
- 29:18Speaker 2: It has, it's stuff that I that I grew up doing.
- 29:22Speaker 2: And and so the storyline that these characters are all
- 29:24Speaker 2: real people that that I show. Yeah, it's being written
- 29:30Speaker 2: as a as a series. But there's also you know,
- 29:33Speaker 2: there's also other little comedy ideas that I have, and
- 29:37Speaker 2: and then also like, seriously, I want to do something
- 29:39Speaker 2: serious like that'd be nice, you know because you know,
- 29:43Speaker 2: did you see Will Ferrell and the on the Apple
- 29:48Speaker 2: shows like Strength? I want to do bro that was
- 29:56Speaker 2: like that changed me. I want to be like that
- 30:00Speaker 2: word because I think we'll for as one of the
- 30:01Speaker 2: funniest people. And then to see that, yeah, we'll tell
- 30:07Speaker 2: you about that.
- 30:07Speaker 6: Yeah, your stuff reminds me. It's almost like curb your enthusiasm.
- 30:11Speaker 6: There's a there's a letter there to David quality, to
- 30:15Speaker 6: your to your stuff, and and to just rewind a
- 30:18Speaker 6: little bit what you said, you know, a little while ago,
- 30:20Speaker 6: like oh man, did I jump a step or whatever?
- 30:23Speaker 6: You know, I can understand why you felt that way,
- 30:25Speaker 6: but like seeing what Wilmer has showed me with Leo
- 30:28Speaker 6: showed me, uh, your skits. Your stuff seems so grounded,
- 30:33Speaker 6: Your comedy seems so grounded. And and I could understand
- 30:37Speaker 6: if you were somebody who who wasn't necessarily good but
- 30:42Speaker 6: had a big following and maybe jumped the step, as
- 30:45Speaker 6: you said, because of your following. But but there's something
- 30:48Speaker 6: in the quality of your work that's deserve it. I
- 30:51Speaker 6: feel of of of where your trajectory is going, and
- 30:54Speaker 6: I can tell just by looking at the stuff that
- 30:57Speaker 6: that they showed me.
- 30:57Speaker 1: So uh, I don't think you should feel that way.
- 31:00Speaker 1: I think that you're earning your your position.
- 31:03Speaker 6: I just think that people are discovering how good you
- 31:05Speaker 6: are and how you know, how well you're writing.
- 31:07Speaker 4: And every entry point is different.
- 31:09Speaker 3: Every actor has a very different way and how it
- 31:13Speaker 3: worked for them.
- 31:14Speaker 1: You know.
- 31:14Speaker 3: Some people went to juilliards. Some people get picked up
- 31:18Speaker 3: about a high school play or stand up or stand
- 31:20Speaker 3: up they're like, oh, you know, you'd be funny in
- 31:22Speaker 3: a movie, right and starts and and they started doing
- 31:24Speaker 3: drama and comedy, you know.
- 31:25Speaker 4: So so I wouldn't.
- 31:26Speaker 3: I wouldn't be so worried about, you know, the runway
- 31:30Speaker 3: you've had before you got the shot, you know, I
- 31:32Speaker 3: would worry more about, you know, you know, about what
- 31:35Speaker 3: you do with it, you know, because that's that's how
- 31:38Speaker 3: you start paving the road ahead.
- 31:40Speaker 4: I think we both are.
- 31:41Speaker 3: Going on thirty plus years and you you're probably going
- 31:43Speaker 3: in what almost forty forty years.
- 31:47Speaker 2: I wasn't even born a little.
- 31:49Speaker 1: A little older a little older.
- 31:52Speaker 4: Like like fifty five years in the game. I thing,
- 31:54Speaker 4: you know you started, you started when you were twenty.
- 31:56Speaker 1: You know that's right. I'm really seventy. Yeah, it's Latino.
- 32:02Speaker 1: It's good Latino jeans. Jeez, you know, you know sort
- 32:05Speaker 1: of vampire.
- 32:06Speaker 4: Sorry, Brandon, what is it based on?
- 32:10Speaker 1: She said? I said, well, sorry, you look great, man.
- 32:13Speaker 1: She was like Beige olt Age, whoa, I gotta use
- 32:18Speaker 1: that weeic.
- 32:28Speaker 3: So your stand up is something that's become a destination
- 32:31Speaker 3: for you. How do you feel about stand up?
- 32:33Speaker 1: Well?
- 32:33Speaker 3: How did the people were like, oh, you should do
- 32:35Speaker 3: stand up now? Like it's very different than what you're doing.
- 32:38Speaker 3: We just discussed the fact that I, in my heart
- 32:40Speaker 3: think you're an actor, and and now people are like,
- 32:43Speaker 3: get on stage and tell us a story for for
- 32:46Speaker 3: you know, twenty minutes or whatever it is.
- 32:49Speaker 2: I mean it's crazy. I mean I didn't think I
- 32:52Speaker 2: was gonna do this part, and so the stand up
- 32:54Speaker 2: was even way out of ever, like why would you
- 32:58Speaker 2: even think of doing that?
- 32:59Speaker 1: You know? But so you're doing stand up now right now?
- 33:03Speaker 2: Yeah? I just finished the tour like a few two
- 33:07Speaker 2: three weeks ago.
- 33:08Speaker 1: How long is your set?
- 33:09Speaker 2: An hour?
- 33:11Speaker 1: You put together an hour set. It's incredible. Man, that's
- 33:16Speaker 1: incredible man.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Yeah, but it you know, it's it's it's so nice
- 33:22Speaker 2: because like some of these people have been there since
- 33:25Speaker 2: the beginning. Yeah, they've been there since the since the pandemic. Yeah,
- 33:29Speaker 2: and I'm like, damn, like they're said, your old ass
- 33:32Speaker 2: come yeah this group.
- 33:34Speaker 3: Like it's like, how does it feel when you walk
- 33:36Speaker 3: into theater and you're like, Okay, I gotta put an
- 33:37Speaker 3: hour show right now, But then you look at the
- 33:39Speaker 3: audience that showed up and bought a ticket to see you.
- 33:42Speaker 2: No, it's it's it genuinely is an honor because I'm like,
- 33:46Speaker 2: you know, it's I say, it's it's one thing to
- 33:50Speaker 2: to support and be so loving from home to pay
- 33:55Speaker 2: for parking, you know what I mean, Like that's a lot,
- 33:59Speaker 2: get a sitter, and then these clubs have two drunk
- 34:02Speaker 2: to drink minimums. Yeah, like they're spending a lot. So
- 34:07Speaker 2: I'm like, please laugh three times at least, like and
- 34:10Speaker 2: if not, like whatever you need after you know, vacuum.
- 34:14Speaker 2: But it's it's, I mean, it really is. It's crazy,
- 34:17Speaker 2: and it's I never you know, it's such a strange
- 34:21Speaker 2: feeling to go to another town and have like these
- 34:26Speaker 2: four sold out rooms at a place that you've never
- 34:31Speaker 2: been to too, and I've never been there, you know.
- 34:33Speaker 2: And then and like you guys like they're sponsoring my
- 34:37Speaker 2: my trip to go try random cool things in Chicago
- 34:41Speaker 2: or go blackout in San Antonio. I don't know, like
- 34:45Speaker 2: that's that's crazy.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Is your is your is your Hour Special sort of reflected?
- 34:50Speaker 2: Uh?
- 34:51Speaker 1: Is it sort of a variation of the skits you
- 34:54Speaker 1: were doing already.
- 34:55Speaker 2: It's there's it's you know, it's talking about some of
- 34:57Speaker 2: the people in society, but a lot of it is
- 35:01Speaker 2: is you know, they're they're kind of seeing the person
- 35:06Speaker 2: they're they're seeing the people watcher. They're talking to the
- 35:08Speaker 2: people watcher, you know, the person behind all this kids,
- 35:11Speaker 2: that's who's talking that night. And and I'm kind of
- 35:14Speaker 2: I like to think of it as I'm kind of
- 35:16Speaker 2: putting like a mirror on the stage and like about you,
- 35:20Speaker 2: like this is what the videos are. They're all about you, Like,
- 35:22Speaker 2: this is what you look like to me? Uh uh
- 35:26Speaker 2: an only child, you know, who's just like interested in everybody.
- 35:31Speaker 2: And and so that's what that well, that's what that is.
- 35:33Speaker 2: And it's been it's been cool. You know I've been
- 35:39Speaker 2: I just go with it, you know. I never thought
- 35:42Speaker 2: about doing it. And then I was with like a
- 35:46Speaker 2: little over a year ago, mar Solo Hernandez was performing
- 35:49Speaker 2: in UH in Ontario and and he uh we had
- 35:55Speaker 2: we had uh we had just had breakfasts a few
- 35:59Speaker 2: weeks before, and he was, you should do some stand up.
- 36:01Speaker 2: I was like, I'm good. And and then we're on
- 36:04Speaker 2: Ontario and he's like, if you come, like you're in
- 36:06Speaker 2: do five minutes. And I was like, all right, I
- 36:08Speaker 2: won't go then, and I was no, but I was
- 36:10Speaker 2: like I'll go.
- 36:11Speaker 4: I was like, fine' so okay.
- 36:12Speaker 3: So the process of your like five minutes, what do
- 36:15Speaker 3: I say for five minutes?
- 36:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know what to say. I was like,
- 36:19Speaker 2: I was like, I don't in the last five years,
- 36:23Speaker 2: I don't think I've been a part of anything, you
- 36:27Speaker 2: know what I mean. But then when I was up there,
- 36:29Speaker 2: I was like, oh, I'll just talk about Marcelo. I'll
- 36:31Speaker 2: talk about I'll talk about this whole thing. And and
- 36:35Speaker 2: it felt good. It was it was nice and and yeah,
- 36:40Speaker 2: it was nice, you know, and I never have, like,
- 36:42Speaker 2: you know, had that experience, and and the good thing
- 36:46Speaker 2: is like, you know, Marcelo and I we have because
- 36:50Speaker 2: it matters. I've I've seen it. We have a similar audience.
- 36:53Speaker 2: I can't walk into Jay Leno's audience, you know, they're
- 36:57Speaker 2: not gonna know me, and and but with him, it
- 37:01Speaker 2: was very helpful that they did. And then a few
- 37:03Speaker 2: months later I went, I was in New York with
- 37:07Speaker 2: my eggs and I uh and I now and uh
- 37:16Speaker 2: and I'm Marcelo was I told him I want to
- 37:18Speaker 2: come to your show and He's like, all right, I
- 37:20Speaker 2: do five minutes all that. So I did it. And
- 37:22Speaker 2: then after I was like, damn, this is crazy, this
- 37:24Speaker 2: is cool whatever, But now I'm good from doing it again.
- 37:28Speaker 2: But then I'm in Paris for the Olympics and I
- 37:33Speaker 2: and I FaceTime Marcelo because we're leaving. He's at the
- 37:36Speaker 2: airport leaving. I'm getting there, and I was like that
- 37:39Speaker 2: day I was like on the bike, I was riding
- 37:41Speaker 2: through Paris by myself, got the music on and I
- 37:44Speaker 2: was like, fuck, let's go on to her, you know
- 37:47Speaker 2: what I mean, just like just like I'm in pair
- 37:50Speaker 2: like that, all like all that brought me to this.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Imagine if I just do more things that are like
- 37:55Speaker 2: feel foreign, you know, And I was like bonjoy, like sure.
- 38:02Speaker 5: And.
- 38:07Speaker 2: So I.
- 38:11Speaker 6: Could go cout go Yeah, man, I feel like, you know,
- 38:18Speaker 6: I don't know what you call the universe god. People
- 38:21Speaker 6: they kind of tell you where you should be going, right,
- 38:24Speaker 6: And if enough people were saying go in this direction
- 38:27Speaker 6: and do stand up and do all, you know, everything
- 38:29Speaker 6: that you it almost seems like a lot of what
- 38:32Speaker 6: you are doing now is because the people around you
- 38:35Speaker 6: have been encouraging to do it right, because they're seeing
- 38:38Speaker 6: something in you that perhaps you weren't seeing in yourself
- 38:42Speaker 6: prior to.
- 38:42Speaker 2: That, right, and I know, I feel like I had
- 38:44Speaker 2: a lot of that yeah. And then and then I
- 38:47Speaker 2: get to Marcello, and then he was the opposite of that.
- 38:51Speaker 1: What do you mean?
- 38:52Speaker 2: He tells me he's like the very first time, he's like,
- 38:54Speaker 2: do do five minutes at the Ontario Show. And I
- 38:58Speaker 2: was like, all right, if I go, I go. And
- 39:01Speaker 2: I'm used to people being so nice for years, like you're,
- 39:04Speaker 2: you know, super supportive, supportive. And then Marcelo tells me
- 39:10Speaker 2: he's like, come and do five minutes. But if you
- 39:14Speaker 2: don't do the five minutes, I won't ask you about it,
- 39:18Speaker 2: Like I won't be disappointed. I won't we don't talk
- 39:21Speaker 2: about it. Damn damn. Like I've never been challenged like that,
- 39:29Speaker 2: Like I had like a stern fathering.
- 39:31Speaker 3: Yeah, it's almost like, man, if you don't if you
- 39:34Speaker 3: come and you don't do the five minutes, I know
- 39:36Speaker 3: you don't want it.
- 39:37Speaker 4: Yeah, it's like, ah and sound that I don't want it.
- 39:40Speaker 4: It's just like okay, Yeah.
- 39:43Speaker 2: I was like, now I can't let him down by
- 39:45Speaker 2: not not letting him down, you know, Like I was like,
- 39:49Speaker 2: now I'm gonna go and I'm gonna be funny now.
- 39:52Speaker 2: And I was so scared, Like driving to Ontario went
- 39:55Speaker 2: by myself and I was driving, I was like shaking.
- 39:58Speaker 2: I was like, bro, I can't believe I'm gonna do this. Yeah,
- 40:00Speaker 2: And then I get there and.
- 40:02Speaker 3: You don't understand, like how how much pressured being on
- 40:06Speaker 3: a stage with a microphone in a crowd who literally
- 40:09Speaker 3: paid to laugh, right, Like their return of their investment
- 40:15Speaker 3: has to be laughs, right. But you know, through this,
- 40:18Speaker 3: you put that pressure on yourself and then you don't
- 40:20Speaker 3: enjoy the crowd. You think the crowd is there already
- 40:23Speaker 3: judging you. You know, it's like it flips, but so wait,
- 40:26Speaker 3: your five minutes. What are the five minutes about?
- 40:28Speaker 2: You know what I I talked about Paris and at
- 40:33Speaker 2: that time, because you remember the opening Life, I said
- 40:36Speaker 2: something about because it was during that time that that
- 40:41Speaker 2: the that the person in the in the he flipped
- 40:45Speaker 2: and you remember that he did what I can't really
- 40:47Speaker 2: do it on the podcast, but he was like he
- 40:51Speaker 2: was going over the thing and like all of him
- 40:53Speaker 2: went up and flipped. Oh okay, you remember that, Leo.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Oh he landed on the on the pole. Was that
- 40:59Speaker 1: that that.
- 40:59Speaker 2: Dude his his his pole went over the pole.
- 41:06Speaker 4: Yes, yes, And I talked about that.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think that was my I think that.
- 41:12Speaker 3: Was then he hit himself with with with well he
- 41:15Speaker 3: was he's what's the name of that sport, the high jump? Right,
- 41:19Speaker 3: So you're rolling with the stick, right, and you hit
- 41:22Speaker 3: on the ground and then you you have it bring
- 41:27Speaker 3: you up to it to a high, to a certain high,
- 41:30Speaker 3: to a certain you know height, and then and then
- 41:33Speaker 3: you're supposed to flip over it and not and the
- 41:37Speaker 3: stick has to stay there. Apparently he flew over and
- 41:42Speaker 3: just missed it by like maybe an inch and a
- 41:44Speaker 3: half and basically his Monaco just off of the pole
- 41:51Speaker 3: and he was like, and then people saw it in
- 41:54Speaker 3: slow motion globally he became a global sensation.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think that's what I think. That was
- 42:02Speaker 2: what I something about that, like, I hope you guys
- 42:04Speaker 2: saw me at the Olympics or something. I forgot, but
- 42:08Speaker 2: that's why that was the biggest thing. And then just
- 42:11Speaker 2: about traveling pretty much being likening. Oh yeah, I just
- 42:15Speaker 2: got back from Paris.
- 42:17Speaker 4: Yeah that's very good. Well that's how it works, you know.
- 42:24Speaker 4: So what's next for you? What is the next thing
- 42:26Speaker 4: you got lined up?
- 42:26Speaker 2: Well, by the time this is I have past, but
- 42:30Speaker 2: I'm doing the Netflix is a Joke festival on Saturday.
- 42:33Speaker 2: And when they told me about that, my agents they're like,
- 42:37Speaker 2: do you want to do it? And I was like, yeah,
- 42:39Speaker 2: I'll do it. I thought they were being like, you know,
- 42:43Speaker 2: maybe not. I thought I'd have to go through something.
- 42:46Speaker 2: And then the poster came out. I was like, damn,
- 42:48Speaker 2: I guess I'm gonna do the festival.
- 42:50Speaker 1: That's crazy.
- 42:51Speaker 3: And by the way, the best comedians of this entire
- 42:54Speaker 3: generation are on that lineup, which.
- 42:56Speaker 4: You should be really proud of yourself for.
- 42:57Speaker 2: That's wild. Yeah, it's crazy, and so yeah, thankfully it
- 43:05Speaker 2: sold out a few days ago, and and it's at
- 43:07Speaker 2: a theater and and like arts district, and and I
- 43:12Speaker 2: got some cool things planned because I wanted to feel very,
- 43:17Speaker 2: very prideful. I wanted to feel very because you know
- 43:21Speaker 2: what I always wanted to do. And if anybody wants
- 43:24Speaker 2: to talk about this, I want to do this thing
- 43:26Speaker 2: where you do a comedy show in a city, and
- 43:29Speaker 2: then that same place where you just do the show,
- 43:33Speaker 2: clear the chairs, and then at turans to just a
- 43:35Speaker 2: party like a club, you know, So maybe we'll started
- 43:40Speaker 2: in Fresno.
- 43:41Speaker 4: At that point people would be losing goose, you know.
- 43:43Speaker 2: Yeah, because we just laughed. And now we all turn
- 43:45Speaker 2: up with it, right, you know, it's a proper follow
- 43:48Speaker 2: up the show.
- 43:49Speaker 4: Yeah, that's awesome. That's a good idea.
- 43:51Speaker 1: Man.
- 43:51Speaker 3: Well congratulations and Netflix. Uh it's a joke. I mean,
- 43:55Speaker 3: I love that lineup. I love how it activates community.
- 43:58Speaker 3: I love how it just travels everywhere in this It
- 44:00Speaker 3: is really really fun and you're gonna you're gonna kill it.
- 44:03Speaker 1: Man.
- 44:04Speaker 4: How long is that said?
- 44:05Speaker 2: It's an hour, It's an hour. The show's ninety minutes.
- 44:08Speaker 4: Somebody opening for you. Yeah, think about that though.
- 44:12Speaker 1: I think by the body opening.
- 44:14Speaker 4: Somebody's for you?
- 44:26Speaker 2: No, I have you know Whidow. Yeah, yeah, he's doing
- 44:31Speaker 2: the opening and I'm such a fan of him. I
- 44:34Speaker 2: was he's opening for you, not like that, like I
- 44:38Speaker 2: was not going first?
- 44:39Speaker 4: Okay, like that, how long is it said?
- 44:43Speaker 2: He's doing fifteen minutes? I okay, Like okay, you know,
- 44:55Speaker 2: And there's some musicians before the show because when they
- 44:59Speaker 2: give me, you know, the doors open at six, so
- 45:01Speaker 2: I'm like, the show don't start till seven, but from
- 45:04Speaker 2: six to seven, I'm like, let's do some programming there too.
- 45:07Speaker 2: So I hired a band who's gonna just be doing
- 45:09Speaker 2: like gorrillas, you know, because I want them to. I'm like,
- 45:13Speaker 2: if we're there, let's use the space, you know, while
- 45:16Speaker 2: we have it. So so there's every everybody.
- 45:19Speaker 3: You enjoying that now, like you enjoying the stage time? Now,
- 45:22Speaker 3: like are you flowing with it? I'm not enjoying it. No, No,
- 45:25Speaker 3: I don't get I don't get as stressed. I think
- 45:27Speaker 3: right now, this one feels like the higher stakes one
- 45:30Speaker 3: just because like.
- 45:31Speaker 2: Everybody, but they love you.
- 45:34Speaker 4: Man, You're gonna you do great.
- 45:36Speaker 2: Yeah, it's at the specific electric It's it's like a
- 45:40Speaker 2: newer place you open this year. But it feels it
- 45:45Speaker 2: feels it feels nice, and it just feels like, you know,
- 45:48Speaker 2: I'm constantly having these moments of like, damn, like this
- 45:52Speaker 2: is it? Like we're in it? Like when when did
- 45:56Speaker 2: we go in it? When did it? You know you
- 45:58Speaker 2: kind of like don't realize what what Which moment in
- 46:02Speaker 2: the last few years was one of this, Oh yeah,
- 46:06Speaker 2: you know it.
- 46:07Speaker 3: I don't know, Freddy, you can offer any instinct there
- 46:10Speaker 3: in there too, but you know from Tod've been uniform
- 46:13Speaker 3: for a long time. I would tell you that once
- 46:15Speaker 3: you're in it, some of us have a tough time
- 46:18Speaker 3: blink like being present because we blink and all of
- 46:23Speaker 3: a sudden, like oh ten years, we blink like you know,
- 46:26Speaker 3: not not for anything. I say this and like just
- 46:28Speaker 3: like to reflect in the fact that it just happened
- 46:30Speaker 3: to me. I was in New York doing press. It's
- 46:34Speaker 3: somebody said, congratulations on your two hundred episodes. I didn't
- 46:37Speaker 3: see I is, And I was like, bro, I just
- 46:40Speaker 3: got there right, So like you know, if you blink it,
- 46:44Speaker 3: it's going to go by.
- 46:45Speaker 1: But it was like a.
- 46:45Speaker 3: Decade that's almost ten years now, and I and I
- 46:50Speaker 3: just tied that seventy show for two hundred, So I
- 46:53Speaker 3: did two hundred seventy show. But so it's like it
- 46:56Speaker 3: just and I don't I don't remember it being that long,
- 47:00Speaker 3: you know what I'm saying. So the fact that you're
- 47:03Speaker 3: acknowledging that this moment that you're in it now, it's
- 47:06Speaker 3: just more of a reason to just don't forget to
- 47:08Speaker 3: enjoy it.
- 47:09Speaker 2: I constantly I'm like telling myself, I feel this, bitch, Yeah,
- 47:13Speaker 2: have fun. When I left the taping earlier, I was like,
- 47:18Speaker 2: give me my bagel, and I was like, oh my god,
- 47:20Speaker 2: this is cool. Like I just I got the nice
- 47:22Speaker 2: water bottle, you know, like we're in it, like this
- 47:25Speaker 2: is it, and it's it's so nice to have work,
- 47:28Speaker 2: to be able to like like this is this is
- 47:30Speaker 2: it working?
- 47:31Speaker 1: This is it?
- 47:32Speaker 2: This is it? In the version where ith.
- 47:34Speaker 4: But this is you doing who you are. You understand that,
- 47:38Speaker 4: like you've just become what you what you wanted, either
- 47:41Speaker 4: accidentally or by manifestation.
- 47:44Speaker 1: Now you are being who you are.
- 47:46Speaker 3: And now when you perform and the strength of what
- 47:49Speaker 3: you decided, this is who you are.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Dude.
- 47:52Speaker 4: It's it's it's magical because now you're in that road.
- 47:55Speaker 4: Now you all you have.
- 47:56Speaker 3: All you can do now is grow, create, and it
- 48:00Speaker 3: and the more fun you have, the more fun they will.
- 48:02Speaker 1: You know.
- 48:02Speaker 4: That's the rule, and that's what it is.
- 48:04Speaker 3: And when something is not fun, stop, pause, fix it, yeah,
- 48:08Speaker 3: and then get back to the fun.
- 48:09Speaker 4: Because this ship is supposed to be fun.
- 48:11Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and it and it is it is. I
- 48:14Speaker 2: I like to make sure that the that the magic
- 48:17Speaker 2: dust stays in it, you know, because there's certain people
- 48:21Speaker 2: like that I look up to that I'm like, I
- 48:23Speaker 2: don't ever want to meet them, not because of that
- 48:25Speaker 2: thing of like your heroes. I don't want to meet
- 48:27Speaker 2: them because I want still magic, you know. I want
- 48:31Speaker 2: there to still be something that I can't reach, that
- 48:33Speaker 2: I can't that I don't want to my favorite band.
- 48:36Speaker 2: I'm like, I don't want to meet them because I
- 48:38Speaker 2: who's your favorite band? They're from Colombia.
- 48:46Speaker 7: Come in, God, my god, that'd be crazy. You should
- 48:58Speaker 7: have I know you.
- 49:01Speaker 3: Yeah, but now that you mentioned that, we're gonna have
- 49:04Speaker 3: to tell Carlos and to go home.
- 49:05Speaker 1: You know, Oh no, come in.
- 49:08Speaker 3: There's a stage right there, bro oh five minutes, because it's.
- 49:15Speaker 2: How humble? Quick?
- 49:17Speaker 4: Are you humbled?
- 49:18Speaker 6: You know, yeah, no, man, but keep keep doing what
- 49:20Speaker 6: feels organic to you, because it's obviously who you are
- 49:24Speaker 6: is what's working.
- 49:26Speaker 1: You know.
- 49:27Speaker 6: I'm pretty sure the bigger you get, the more money
- 49:29Speaker 6: you're going to start to make. You know, you may
- 49:31Speaker 6: have other influences steering you in different directions, but just
- 49:35Speaker 6: stay true to ye who you are. Man.
- 49:39Speaker 3: Yeah, well man, thank you so much for coming. And
- 49:42Speaker 3: I can't wait to see now just the next chapter
- 49:44Speaker 3: but hopefully all of us be a part of it somehow.
- 49:47Speaker 2: And anyone want to do five minutes on my show ever,
- 49:49Speaker 2: let me know, let me know, I might on my
- 49:53Speaker 2: one day, on my one day.
- 49:55Speaker 4: Come on one day.
- 49:56Speaker 3: The only thing I can do for you if I
- 49:58Speaker 3: and like I said, I think if you ask me,
- 50:00Speaker 3: I like, if if Leo asked me one day, like,
- 50:01Speaker 3: hey man, I want you to do five minutes on my show,
- 50:04Speaker 3: and whatever could you do it.
- 50:08Speaker 2: Minutes?
- 50:09Speaker 3: I'm like, I would have to be very obvious and
- 50:12Speaker 3: I would have to do like a dramatic monologue for
- 50:16Speaker 3: five minutes as faz.
- 50:19Speaker 2: Oh, that'd be great, That'd be crazy.
- 50:22Speaker 4: It's the only thing I can pull out of that hat.
- 50:24Speaker 1: Would you come with the with the with the hair,
- 50:26Speaker 1: and I.
- 50:27Speaker 4: Would ask everybody to close their eyes for five minutes.
- 50:33Speaker 4: That would be my five minute, you know moment. But
- 50:36Speaker 4: I don't know stand up communities. I mean I buy
- 50:38Speaker 4: down by the home. Who know how to tell a
- 50:42Speaker 4: story for an hour?
- 50:42Speaker 1: Man?
- 50:43Speaker 3: So yeah, I got to go to the cheap shot,
- 50:46Speaker 3: you know, like, but yeah, that's incredible, man, No, that'd
- 50:49Speaker 3: be great.
- 50:50Speaker 1: Man. We're incredibly proud of you. Man.
- 50:51Speaker 6: We always talk about the baton getting passed down the
- 50:56Speaker 6: different generations. We talk about the generations that came before us, right,
- 51:00Speaker 6: people that we were watching, and then all of a
- 51:01Speaker 6: sudden we're in their place and you're you're the note.
- 51:04Speaker 6: You're the new generation. Man, You're the baton has been
- 51:07Speaker 6: passed to you.
- 51:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 51:08Speaker 2: I feel I feel lucky because I I have a
- 51:12Speaker 2: lot of you know, Constance Marie yesterday we were with
- 51:15Speaker 2: her and she said the similar type of.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Thing was beautiful person.
