- 0:06Speaker 1: Hello, sexy people, this is La La Kent and Randall,
- 0:11Speaker 1: and you're listening to give them La La with Randall.
- 0:15Speaker 2: Yeah, you got it right. At least every week you're
- 0:18Speaker 2: certainly include me. It's nice.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Yeah, the joke is still funny when you make it.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Ha ha. Yeah, you're a real comedian.
- 0:24Speaker 1: So it's been crazy.
- 0:27Speaker 2: You know that I'm funnier than you. I do know that, Okay,
- 0:29Speaker 2: I just want to get that out there.
- 0:31Speaker 1: I didn't believe it until until we started the podcast,
- 0:35Speaker 1: and then I was like, oh shit, he is funnier
- 0:36Speaker 1: than me, right, because you were just.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Trying to take a dig at me. And I just
- 0:39Speaker 2: if we did a poll, wait, hope, if we do
- 0:41Speaker 2: a poll, I think I win. You have more fans
- 0:44Speaker 2: by about a billion, but I think the twenty fans
- 0:47Speaker 2: that I have I would win.
- 0:48Speaker 1: You're very funny. But the joke of like, oh, you
- 0:52Speaker 1: got it right, give them Laala with Randall. You got
- 0:54Speaker 1: my name? I'm in every episode?
- 0:57Speaker 2: Well, we've only done three, so can't be in that many.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Right, I'll let this one slide. Wow, And I want
- 1:02Speaker 1: to wish everybody a very happy end of Award season.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Yes, we are all happy that it is Monday, and
- 1:12Speaker 2: the last show of Awards season concluded last night with
- 1:16Speaker 2: the oscros, which we'll get into later.
- 1:18Speaker 1: On, which we'll get into later on.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Happy detail, we're dressing up. No more suits and no
- 1:24Speaker 2: more eight hour ordeals, so I am happy to be
- 1:28Speaker 2: back at the office.
- 1:29Speaker 1: It really is exhausting, right, Yeah, it's a lot. It's
- 1:32Speaker 1: a lot mentally.
- 1:33Speaker 2: But look, you have to put in perspective. It's like,
- 1:36Speaker 2: what are we going to do? Complain that we're so
- 1:39Speaker 2: lucky to be nominated for such a prestige A word,
- 1:42Speaker 2: of course not. But it does require a lot of travel,
- 1:47Speaker 2: a lot of time, and a lot of people would say,
- 1:49Speaker 2: oh my god, you should never complain, And of course
- 1:52Speaker 2: you don't complain, but you complain just because it's exhausting.
- 1:55Speaker 1: You complain just because you have that right. You know,
- 1:59Speaker 1: we all have the right to complain, and I think
- 2:00Speaker 1: we should use it.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I do use that called it is. And the thing is,
- 2:06Speaker 2: it goes on for like two and a half months,
- 2:08Speaker 2: so it's a lot flying here, flying there, getting on
- 2:11Speaker 2: the plane. But at the same token, you got to
- 2:12Speaker 2: put it in perspective and say, you know, it's a
- 2:15Speaker 2: blessing to have these kind of you know, accolades in
- 2:18Speaker 2: front of you. So I as much as I bitch
- 2:21Speaker 2: and complain, I also am very grateful.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I'm very happy for you and grateful for everything that
- 2:27Speaker 1: you took me to. We're going to dive into that
- 2:30Speaker 1: a little bit more, a lot, a bit more later.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I agree. What I want to know, ask me, Ask me.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I want to ask you because I'm not watching the
- 2:39Speaker 2: show this season, only.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Because you're not watching Vanner pumb Rules this season.
- 2:42Speaker 2: No, I will watch it. I just been a little
- 2:44Speaker 2: busy working so some of us.
- 2:48Speaker 1: That's right.
- 2:48Speaker 2: You have a job, right, I have a job, so
- 2:50Speaker 2: I have to punch in at the clock and do
- 2:53Speaker 2: my work. But well, at least tell me and tell
- 2:55Speaker 2: everybody what is going on in Vander What episode do
- 2:58Speaker 2: we all?
- 2:58Speaker 1: You don't need to twist my arm to talk about
- 3:01Speaker 1: vander Pump Rules. I believe we're episode six. I think, okay,
- 3:09Speaker 1: I don't know exactly the episodes, but I know exactly
- 3:12Speaker 1: what happens in all of them. I will say.
- 3:16Speaker 2: What's what's good? Like, what's going on?
- 3:18Speaker 1: That's I mean? Every time I see the ogs on TV. Yeah,
- 3:23Speaker 1: I get excited because we're not as present as we
- 3:28Speaker 1: used to be with all these new faces, I'm gonna
- 3:31Speaker 1: be honest. I'm going to be brutally honest.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Yeah, be honest.
- 3:35Speaker 1: The newbies could be better.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Oh wow, you know, I mean that's that's that's brutal.
- 3:41Speaker 2: It's pretty brutal, assassinated. How many newbies are there?
- 3:44Speaker 1: I can't even count how many.
- 3:46Speaker 2: I mean, you just put them in a firing squad
- 3:47Speaker 2: and just pull the trigger bone like that. I mean,
- 3:49Speaker 2: you don't even you don't even massage it. You just
- 3:51Speaker 2: hit everybody, all of them.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I go straight for the jugular.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I mean, come on, there's gotta be somebody new that
- 3:57Speaker 2: you like.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I think Dana is super interesting, Okay. I think she's
- 4:02Speaker 1: so much fun to watch.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Okay, so you're not pulling the trigger on dam no.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I But I've always said Dana's like an open book.
- 4:08Speaker 1: I think she's she's quick with the tongue, she fights back.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Okay.
- 4:12Speaker 1: But the rest of them.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Are like the rest of them, you just put out
- 4:15Speaker 2: the pasture.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Yeah, Like, I don't think they're fucking needed in any way.
- 4:19Speaker 1: I mean, I'm probably gonna get in a lot of
- 4:21Speaker 1: trouble for saying you're having right now fucking firing squad
- 4:24Speaker 1: over here.
- 4:24Speaker 2: But I know, but you can't do this.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I just came off of a Bruce Willis action movie. Okay, taekwondo,
- 4:30Speaker 1: I'm fucking slaughtering all these hoes today.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Hold on, we gotta can we dial it back?
- 4:37Speaker 1: You asked me what I said about no.
- 4:40Speaker 2: But you took it to another level. All I wanted
- 4:41Speaker 2: to know was, can you give me a storyline? What's exciting?
- 4:45Speaker 1: I wish I could give you one for the new people, but.
- 4:47Speaker 2: It's not give you one for anybody.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I gave you one. Dana's super interesting. She's dating Max,
- 4:53Speaker 1: killing everybody.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Everybody's all right, let's go.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Let's stick with things that I know the oge Okay,
- 4:58Speaker 1: give me something there.
- 4:59Speaker 2: Holy shit, this is a lot.
- 5:02Speaker 1: It's a lot. You had the bachelorette party, the bachelor
- 5:05Speaker 1: bachelorette party going.
- 5:06Speaker 2: On in the show right now for Jack's and Brittany.
- 5:09Speaker 1: They were having the having they had their bachelorette party
- 5:11Speaker 1: and how was that? And it was great? I mean,
- 5:14Speaker 1: Brittany freaked out about this sign as you know that.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Don't do it, Brittany.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Okay, but did she recover from that?
- 5:20Speaker 1: She recovered from it? It was like she was just
- 5:22Speaker 1: drunk and thought it was a personal attack. Which I
- 5:25Speaker 1: tell people this all the time. When you engage in
- 5:28Speaker 1: social media and you read things over and over again,
- 5:31Speaker 1: you start to believe them. And now just you feel
- 5:33Speaker 1: like you're a target for everybody.
- 5:35Speaker 2: I'll tell you something that's funny that you said that,
- 5:37Speaker 2: because you remember when we first started dating, if there
- 5:40Speaker 2: was ever an article, because I wasn't used to this,
- 5:43Speaker 2: the only thing that I would have an article would
- 5:45Speaker 2: be would be like, oh he produced this movie and
- 5:48Speaker 2: blah blah blah. And and then I start dating you,
- 5:50Speaker 2: and it's like there's an article every week, whether it's
- 5:52Speaker 2: about my weight, whether it's about you know, our relationship.
- 5:55Speaker 2: And I was having melt I used to call you
- 5:57Speaker 2: and have meltdowns. I was like I can't deal with this.
- 5:59Speaker 2: This is a insane and then you're like, get over it.
- 6:03Speaker 2: It's not a big deal, move on, don't read the ship.
- 6:06Speaker 2: But you're and I'm just I want to say this
- 6:08Speaker 2: to your credit. You used to tell me don't read
- 6:12Speaker 2: the ship if you can't take it, and that is
- 6:14Speaker 2: the best advice. And what happened was I just stopped reading.
- 6:17Speaker 2: I just think you know, because it's not your real life.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Your real life is what we have and that is
- 6:23Speaker 2: not real, but they make you feel like it's real
- 6:26Speaker 2: in the middle of all that.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Can I tell you guys something. By the way, we're
- 6:29Speaker 1: in Randall's office again with the give them La La squad.
- 6:33Speaker 2: So I'm gonna hold on, hold on. This is not
- 6:35Speaker 2: to give them La La squad. This is with Randall's squad.
- 6:38Speaker 1: All right, whatever, Holy people too.
- 6:42Speaker 2: You just took by people, all of them.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I'm jacking all your folks. Bro okay, people. Well, when
- 6:48Speaker 1: I'm in like a really pissed off mood, I decide
- 6:52Speaker 1: to troll the gram for like people who have been
- 6:56Speaker 1: mean to me and my dms. And I'm like, you
- 6:58Speaker 1: know what, because I'm pissed off, I'm gonna go toes
- 7:01Speaker 1: with some trolls today. Oh wow, that's what I do.
- 7:04Speaker 2: You do that? Yeah?
- 7:04Speaker 1: I do that?
- 7:07Speaker 2: Can I be honest?
- 7:08Speaker 1: Tell me? Okay, so this is the Honesty Podcast. Tell
- 7:11Speaker 1: me about a week.
- 7:12Speaker 2: So I used to have like five followers when I
- 7:15Speaker 2: met you, and then obviously it grew. You're welcome, Slow down, Okay,
- 7:20Speaker 2: it wasn't somebody I asked for it. You just brought
- 7:22Speaker 2: it on to me. But with that comes some really
- 7:25Speaker 2: mean people, really mean, mean mean people. I'm gonna tell
- 7:29Speaker 2: you something. I don't even wait till I'm in a mood,
- 7:32Speaker 2: because if somebody says some crazy shit, I just go
- 7:36Speaker 2: right at him. I say, listen, why are you a
- 7:38Speaker 2: mean person? You're a parent, You're a mother, And I
- 7:42Speaker 2: say to them, you're a mother of a child. Is
- 7:46Speaker 2: this what you're instilling in your children? And generally surprising,
- 7:50Speaker 2: most of them are like, oh my god, I didn't
- 7:52Speaker 2: know you're a real person. What am I a puppets?
- 7:55Speaker 2: I mean, of course I'm a real person. So I
- 7:57Speaker 2: think that I look at his education. I've helped big
- 8:00Speaker 2: people realize that internet bullying is not okay.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Yeah, you're sure than I am.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Oh what do you do?
- 8:07Speaker 1: I go TOES, I assassinate what does that mean?
- 8:12Speaker 2: But by the way, I go TOES too to the
- 8:14Speaker 2: people are super mean that won't back down. Then I
- 8:17Speaker 2: give them real piece of my mind. But what do
- 8:19Speaker 2: you do? I'm very interested since you've never shared this
- 8:21Speaker 2: with me.
- 8:21Speaker 1: Well, there was this one person who just wouldn't let
- 8:25Speaker 1: it go, Like I couldn't even tell you if it
- 8:27Speaker 1: was a man or a woman, but they just kept
- 8:30Speaker 1: going on and on about what a shitty person I am.
- 8:33Speaker 1: So I told them for future, you shouldn't invest time
- 8:39Speaker 1: into people who are above you. In other words, I
- 8:43Speaker 1: don't give a about what you're saying.
- 8:45Speaker 2: Law.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Did I feel bad after Yes, but I deleted the
- 8:51Speaker 1: the DM conversation so I couldn't apologize.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I've had some I've had some real arguments on
- 9:01Speaker 2: the ground with people that come for me. You know what,
- 9:03Speaker 2: I give them a chance to back down. I always
- 9:05Speaker 2: do it politically correctly. You say, you know you're a parent.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I'm a parent. This is disgusting to talk to me.
- 9:10Speaker 2: That's way when you don't even know me. And then
- 9:11Speaker 2: usually they're not But if they're not nice, then I
- 9:14Speaker 2: then I fire up.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Then you fire You go toes. That's what they call it,
- 9:18Speaker 1: going toes.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Going toes.
- 9:20Speaker 1: You know when do I believe that I'm above that person?
- 9:22Speaker 2: No?
- 9:23Speaker 1: But did it piss them off? Yeah? And that was
- 9:25Speaker 1: the goal.
- 9:26Speaker 2: You're a verbal savage, like you are a a you
- 9:30Speaker 2: can really say some shit. I've been on the receiving
- 9:33Speaker 2: end of that in your little tantrum. So yeah, I'm
- 9:35Speaker 2: gonna tell you and I know, you feel bad always
- 9:36Speaker 2: because you Yeah.
- 9:37Speaker 1: The Gill is really not that fun to deal with.
- 9:39Speaker 1: But back to vander Pump the other day, I don't
- 9:42Speaker 1: want to talk about it. That's vander Pump roule.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Nice transition.
- 9:48Speaker 1: So in the most recent episode, which you have not seen,
- 9:52Speaker 1: we have them Okay, well it's Pride, Okay, it's a
- 9:59Speaker 1: shit show. Obviously, James Kennedy in this episode, production and
- 10:06Speaker 1: editing went to the length of pulling security footage of James. Yep,
- 10:11Speaker 1: take a drink of your water. It's gonna get hot.
- 10:13Speaker 1: It's gonna get heated.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 10:15Speaker 1: They pulled security footage of James asking the manager Max
- 10:21Speaker 1: if he could have a carbonated water with a lime
- 10:25Speaker 1: and you know what else, that's what he says, and
- 10:27Speaker 1: you know what else to put in it?
- 10:29Speaker 2: He's drinking behind the scenes.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Right, And remember this isn't in real time, everybody who
- 10:34Speaker 1: thinks of the live TV. This was like in June
- 10:37Speaker 1: or July, right, So this is in the episode. So
- 10:41Speaker 1: James and I go in the back and talk because
- 10:43Speaker 1: he made a nasty post, which you know what the
- 10:46Speaker 1: post was, the Voldemort post the name we shall not mention.
- 10:51Speaker 1: And we're talking and he does cheers two non alcoholic beverages.
- 10:57Speaker 1: He brought up the non alcoholic beverages, not me, and
- 11:00Speaker 1: so I ask him for a sip. He won't give
- 11:02Speaker 1: me one. He asks me for a sip of mine.
- 11:04Speaker 1: I give him a sip of my, you know, very
- 11:06Speaker 1: fun diet coke because on Pride, I like to get
- 11:09Speaker 1: you know, pretty lit with my diet cokes these days.
- 11:13Speaker 1: And so there we go. And then he later in
- 11:15Speaker 1: the episode tells Lisa vander Pump that he wasn't drinking.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Oh wow, So there's a lot of drama this week
- 11:20Speaker 2: on Manner Pump.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought the episode was great, a lot of
- 11:25Speaker 1: new faces. Raquel gets in trouble for missing her shift.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Watch she miss her shift.
- 11:30Speaker 1: She missed her shift because James freaked out at her
- 11:33Speaker 1: about not showing up for his DJ set. But then
- 11:37Speaker 1: they make up and everything's good. But it's really crazy
- 11:39Speaker 1: because Raquel, like I've gone toes with her before, not
- 11:43Speaker 1: really she's nice. That's I felt when I was watching
- 11:46Speaker 1: the episode so badly. I was like, no, it's that's
- 11:49Speaker 1: what I watch. I It's okay that she didn't make
- 11:51Speaker 1: a shift.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Raquel has always been very nice to me. And I
- 11:54Speaker 2: have not nothing ill to say. She's very sweet.
- 11:57Speaker 1: You know, Raquel was put in the line of fire
- 11:59Speaker 1: when it came to my issues with James.
- 12:01Speaker 2: No, no, hold on that happens. You're lying to fire.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Everybody subject to.
- 12:05Speaker 1: So yes, that is very true.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Yeah so I but I think now you and her
- 12:09Speaker 2: are cool, really nice.
- 12:10Speaker 1: I love Raquel, I love James. The episode was great.
- 12:15Speaker 1: It was entertaining.
- 12:16Speaker 2: You're loyal to your friends. You always have been, like
- 12:19Speaker 2: whoever's been around from the Okay, let's I want to
- 12:22Speaker 2: now that I have my education of vander educated you. No, no,
- 12:25Speaker 2: you have. I don't need to watch the show now. No,
- 12:27Speaker 2: I'm just kidding. Of course I'm gonna watch it because
- 12:29Speaker 2: you're on it. Can I move to our voicemails?
- 12:42Speaker 1: Okay, so you want to move to voicemails. You've heard
- 12:44Speaker 1: enough of vander Pump.
- 12:45Speaker 2: I love hearing about vander Pump, but I think the
- 12:47Speaker 2: fans I think I've been getting excited.
- 12:50Speaker 1: I can talk about vander Pump all day.
- 12:51Speaker 2: You know that you do, but you do talk about
- 12:54Speaker 2: her all day? I know. Okay, but but I think
- 12:56Speaker 2: the fans really enjoy us answering questions, and I think
- 12:58Speaker 2: it's fun. It's a fun part of the show, and
- 13:00Speaker 2: I think we should do it.
- 13:01Speaker 1: So let's listen to our voicemails.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Hi, love and Rand. This is Caitlin from Maryland.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Huge fan.
- 13:07Speaker 3: I am calling. I want to know. I know Randy
- 13:10Speaker 3: make the movie. But if you were going to cast
- 13:13Speaker 3: someone to play you in a movie, who would both
- 13:16Speaker 3: of you choose? And then also, do you guys absolutely
- 13:19Speaker 3: hate it when fans stop you when you're out just
- 13:22Speaker 3: like trying to live your life, because I would definitely
- 13:25Speaker 3: stop you.
- 13:25Speaker 1: I call it you hell you guys.
- 13:28Speaker 2: That's c That's a good one.
- 13:29Speaker 1: I love this one. Who would you cast Rand to
- 13:31Speaker 1: play NFL?
- 13:32Speaker 2: Okay? Fantasy wise, I mean, obviously you know Brad Pitt,
- 13:37Speaker 2: you know, because of my chiseled stomach and am i
- 13:40Speaker 2: am I and my my amazing jawline and you know,
- 13:44Speaker 2: and my uh my fortunes. Yeah, so I would cast
- 13:47Speaker 2: Brad Pitt. Now realistically, like, well, I mean I don't
- 13:51Speaker 2: want to live in reality, so I don't even know
- 13:52Speaker 2: why I pick somebody else, but.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Well I still want to know.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Okay, so somebody Danny DeVito.
- 14:01Speaker 1: That's so hot. I fucking love Danny DeVito.
- 14:05Speaker 2: He's the best. He's the best I know. I would
- 14:07Speaker 2: just trying to find somebody Josh kad somebody and somebody
- 14:09Speaker 2: that's funny, that has a big heart, a lot of personality.
- 14:14Speaker 1: Those are great answers. I love that I about you.
- 14:18Speaker 2: I can't wait. Let me, let me, let me really
- 14:20Speaker 2: sit down for this one, because.
- 14:22Speaker 1: You're already sitting down. You need to lay down for it.
- 14:24Speaker 1: I need to lay down, Okay, I.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Would pick Oh god, I can't wait there.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Angelina Jolie.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Wow.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm living in fantasy land too, But.
- 14:34Speaker 2: You know what, it's not that fantasy like mine with
- 14:36Speaker 2: Brad Pitt. You'd have to get four chuins gone and
- 14:38Speaker 2: I'd have to get light out sucking. But besides, but you, babe,
- 14:43Speaker 2: you're hot and beautiful, thank you, And you're a strong woman.
- 14:47Speaker 2: Angelina is a strong woman. You both are like it.
- 14:49Speaker 1: I just think she's an amazing actress who's badass, and
- 14:53Speaker 1: I think she could capture the essence of La La
- 14:56Speaker 1: really fucking well.
- 14:57Speaker 2: I just think it would be great to watch the
- 14:59Speaker 2: two of you in a movie with just guns blazy
- 15:01Speaker 2: and just just shooting.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Up the hole, whipping around our like giant ponytails jumping
- 15:07Speaker 1: into like ferraris.
- 15:08Speaker 2: All right, don let's make this movie. Angelina. If you're listening,
- 15:12Speaker 2: call Randall one eight hundred Randall.
- 15:16Speaker 1: And by the way, no, my love, if you were
- 15:18Speaker 1: to stop us while we were living our lives, I
- 15:20Speaker 1: love that shit stop me anytime you see.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Okay, first of all, you live for people to stop
- 15:25Speaker 2: you because it only plays any your ego. I know,
- 15:28Speaker 2: but by the way, do I don't know how I
- 15:29Speaker 2: feel about it. I just nobody's ever done that before
- 15:32Speaker 2: in my life. Until I made Sorry, until I met
- 15:35Speaker 2: I was gonna SAYU, til I made Lala, until I met.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Lala, Why you better fucking sit down.
- 15:41Speaker 2: I made laa No. But you know what, babe, I
- 15:44Speaker 2: never had anybody ever stop me. And now over the
- 15:46Speaker 2: last couple of years, it's been a lot. And honestly,
- 15:50Speaker 2: I don't think it bothers me, and I think it's
- 15:52Speaker 2: just something kind of weird for me because I'm such
- 15:54Speaker 2: a behind the scenes person. I'm like, why are they
- 15:56Speaker 2: coming up to it all on La LA's fiance. So no,
- 15:59Speaker 2: I don't get it out get annoyed because I know,
- 16:01Speaker 2: you know, the person that I'm engaged to has a
- 16:04Speaker 2: lot of fans.
- 16:04Speaker 1: So there you go, Thank you, bab Okay, nextes, next question.
- 16:08Speaker 3: I just wanted to call and say that I'm obsessed
- 16:10Speaker 3: with a podcast. I've been obsessed with both of you
- 16:14Speaker 3: since day one. I'm a huge fan, and so I
- 16:17Speaker 3: wanted to call and ask Randall. In the beginning of
- 16:21Speaker 3: the show and when you and Blahlah were a secret
- 16:26Speaker 3: and you were mystery man, actually just my man, how
- 16:31Speaker 3: did you deal with everything James Kennedy would always throw
- 16:36Speaker 3: out about you and did you ever want to just
- 16:39Speaker 3: beat him up? I just want to know how you
- 16:41Speaker 3: felt about the situation and how you and La La
- 16:45Speaker 3: handled that behind closed doors. So thanks, love the podcast,
- 16:49Speaker 3: Love you guys.
- 16:50Speaker 2: That's a good question. I don't think I wanted to
- 16:53Speaker 2: beat anybody up. I think it was just like I
- 16:55Speaker 2: was kind of shocked that I didn't really know this
- 16:58Speaker 2: person at that time, and I just didn't understand what
- 17:02Speaker 2: it was all about, Like why I was continually being
- 17:05Speaker 2: mentioned on a TV show about you.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Know that you wanted to know part of that is correct.
- 17:10Speaker 2: And also that a I want to know part of
- 17:12Speaker 2: it be like why was I even being referenced but
- 17:15Speaker 2: I'm not even part of it, So it was really
- 17:17Speaker 2: it was a hurtful situation. It obviously angered me.
- 17:20Speaker 1: You definitely were hurt by that.
- 17:22Speaker 2: I was hurt, but I was and I was also anger,
- 17:24Speaker 2: which is which anger is a mass for hurt, just
- 17:27Speaker 2: because I was so shocked that like, why was I
- 17:29Speaker 2: being brought into this at the same token? You know,
- 17:32Speaker 2: how did I deal with it? Obviously I had laala
- 17:35Speaker 2: to babe. I used to talk to you about it,
- 17:36Speaker 2: and obviously I would tell you about my feelings towards it.
- 17:39Speaker 2: But you always defended me because I couldn't defend myself
- 17:42Speaker 2: because I wasn't on the show.
- 17:43Speaker 1: I will always defend you, baby.
- 17:44Speaker 2: I know, baby. And then and then I think, I
- 17:46Speaker 2: think the way we handle things is always behind closed doors.
- 17:49Speaker 2: We just talk it out and we realized that this
- 17:52Speaker 2: is not the real life and what people.
- 17:54Speaker 1: We go on a tangent, we talk a lot of
- 17:55Speaker 1: shit about other people, and then we get over it.
- 17:57Speaker 1: That's what happened behind closed doors. Very well, I'll be
- 18:01Speaker 1: realistic and you remain kosher.
- 18:03Speaker 2: I love it all right. So those are some great
- 18:06Speaker 2: voice mails. Now we have to get to our next
- 18:09Speaker 2: guest for for week four is this week four Week four.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Week four, we have a very special Hollywood guest, who,
- 18:18Speaker 2: by the way, attended the Oscars last night.
- 18:31Speaker 1: So I decided that, because we're coming off of a
- 18:36Speaker 1: whirlwind Awards season, who better than my love, Randall Emmett
- 18:43Speaker 1: yes to be the next guest on Give Them La
- 18:47Speaker 1: La with Random.
- 18:48Speaker 2: I was going to check my schedule before I agreed
- 18:50Speaker 2: to this, but then I realized my name's on the title,
- 18:52Speaker 2: so I was going to be right to be here.
- 18:55Speaker 2: By the way, I'm going to be very serious. I'm
- 18:57Speaker 2: very honored that you wanted this show to be about me,
- 19:01Speaker 2: which I bet our ratings are going to drop and
- 19:03Speaker 2: we're gonna lose lots of followers. But it means a
- 19:05Speaker 2: lot to me personally that you're having me on the
- 19:07Speaker 2: show as a guest.
- 19:08Speaker 1: I have heard you speak many times about your journey
- 19:13Speaker 1: in Hollywood. I think it's brilliant. I think it's inspiring,
- 19:18Speaker 1: and every time I hear it, it's like I've heard
- 19:21Speaker 1: it for the first time ever.
- 19:22Speaker 2: So that's very sweet.
- 19:23Speaker 1: I'm very excited to interview you, baby, Oh.
- 19:26Speaker 2: God, very nervous because you're.
- 19:28Speaker 1: You know, I'm gonna be nice because now you're not
- 19:30Speaker 1: my fiance you're my guest.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Wow, yeah, I love it.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Okay, So last night, yes, you attended the Oscars correct
- 19:39Speaker 1: for the Irishman, right, and by the way.
- 19:41Speaker 2: I attended them myself alone because you were flying back
- 19:44Speaker 2: from working on a film. So I I so, yes,
- 19:48Speaker 2: I went. I didn't go along. I went with Emma,
- 19:50Speaker 2: the producer of Irishmen, and a big group of us,
- 19:53Speaker 2: you know, our ad David Webb and a whole bunch
- 19:54Speaker 2: of them. Yeah, a lot of people Orsese.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Yeah, like those people. I went with those people.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Deal. I went with the whole production team. Everybody was involved. Yep.
- 20:05Speaker 1: What was that like for you?
- 20:06Speaker 2: So I've been to the Oscars a couple of times before,
- 20:09Speaker 2: never in this position, like we're Best Picture nomination. It's
- 20:12Speaker 2: it's a weird thing. The whole day is surreal because
- 20:15Speaker 2: you remember as a kid that you know, you watch
- 20:17Speaker 2: the Oscars, you have Oscar viewing parties. Everybody talks about that.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Even if you're not in the movie business. You want
- 20:22Speaker 2: to see the Oscars, right, So you know, the tickets come,
- 20:25Speaker 2: you're you're looking at it, You're like, wow, we really
- 20:28Speaker 2: maybe could win the Oscar. Obviously we didn't win. But
- 20:31Speaker 2: so I don't know. I got ready at one o'clock. You,
- 20:35Speaker 2: I got the car, went over and met everybody. It
- 20:37Speaker 2: was I was really excited. I just I didn't know.
- 20:39Speaker 2: I didn't really have expectations time, just because I think
- 20:43Speaker 2: I have more fun without expectations. And we went through
- 20:47Speaker 2: the security checks and we got to the Red carpet
- 20:50Speaker 2: and it's just amazing. It's like the Red Carpet's like
- 20:53Speaker 2: a mile long. There's thousands of interview journalists and photographers.
- 20:59Speaker 2: There's over the biggest night in Hollywood, biggest night. I
- 21:02Speaker 2: was like prom night here, but even more than that.
- 21:05Speaker 2: One of the funniest moments is there's two funny moments.
- 21:07Speaker 2: But so I'm walking the red carpet with everybody, all
- 21:10Speaker 2: the producers on the team, and you know, I'm whatever.
- 21:13Speaker 2: I'm just I'm taking it all in. I'm instagramming. I'm like,
- 21:16Speaker 2: you know, trying to get that selfie that I was here,
- 21:19Speaker 2: you know. And as I'm walking past, like they have
- 21:22Speaker 2: a risers with like five hundred fans just getting to
- 21:26Speaker 2: see the celebrities as I'm walking by, and I thought
- 21:28Speaker 2: it was a joke. I I hear something and they're
- 21:31Speaker 2: like ran and I'm like, Wow, they know me. I'm
- 21:36Speaker 2: like a successful producer yeh. And I look up and
- 21:39Speaker 2: there's like, like, you know, a couple of people and
- 21:41Speaker 2: I was like, hi, waving, like as the big movie
- 21:43Speaker 2: producer that I am, and they're like, where's La La?
- 21:47Speaker 2: I was like, is this for real? Vander pumpt Rules
- 21:50Speaker 2: has followed me.
- 21:50Speaker 1: To the Oscar is so huge right now?
- 21:53Speaker 2: Yeah? I know, I know. I knew you. I knew
- 21:55Speaker 2: you were gonna get off on that. So that was
- 21:57Speaker 2: pretty cool because it was nice that anybody recognized from that,
- 22:00Speaker 2: but as your fiance, So that was really sweet and
- 22:03Speaker 2: I missed you. Another funny moment is Spike Lee was
- 22:07Speaker 2: doing an interview on ABC Yes and everybody was blowing
- 22:10Speaker 2: me up because I was standing on there.
- 22:11Speaker 1: It's amazing because it was it was like my Meryl
- 22:14Speaker 1: Street moment at the SAG Awards. You got with Spike Lee,
- 22:18Speaker 1: who was repping Kobe Bryant so hard.
- 22:21Speaker 2: You know, we you know, Emma, my producer partner knows
- 22:24Speaker 2: him well, and they shook hands to alone. He introduced
- 22:27Speaker 2: himself to me and I was just like what I
- 22:29Speaker 2: just said, You're like my hero. He's like one of
- 22:31Speaker 2: my favorite directors from She's got to Have It from
- 22:34Speaker 2: do the right thing, you know, I mean, this is
- 22:36Speaker 2: one of the most iconic filmmakers we have, so and
- 22:39Speaker 2: then he was wrapping.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Super familiar with film. I mean, I'm getting to be
- 22:43Speaker 1: familiar because you're doing my fiance. But even I know
- 22:47Speaker 1: who that is. Even I know missed.
- 22:49Speaker 2: A spike, but he was repping Kobe. What a beautiful
- 22:52Speaker 2: outfit he got on.
- 22:53Speaker 1: To such a tribute. It was amazing.
- 22:56Speaker 2: So anyway, so then you know, you get in there
- 22:57Speaker 2: and you're you're on the red card, but you're doing
- 22:59Speaker 2: all that. You're on there for almost an hour, and
- 23:01Speaker 2: then we get inside and you're starting to walk up
- 23:03Speaker 2: and you see the Oscar statues and it's just like
- 23:05Speaker 2: it's really surreal when you're there, the whole experience, right,
- 23:08Speaker 2: because it's almost just like, oh, it's another award show.
- 23:11Speaker 1: But it's the it's not like another award show.
- 23:13Speaker 2: You don't, you know, it's hard to Comprehence like when
- 23:15Speaker 2: you watch it on TV, it's the Oscars. Right when
- 23:17Speaker 2: you're there, even though you know it's the Oscars, I
- 23:19Speaker 2: don't know if it makes sense, doesn't register because you're
- 23:22Speaker 2: like two overwhelmed. Okay, it's two overwhelmed. The whole thing
- 23:24Speaker 2: was overwhelmed. So wait one last thing. Yeah, and you're
- 23:27Speaker 2: seeing every movie star you grew up with walking by you.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Well, I can't even imagine, because I went with you
- 23:33Speaker 1: to Vanity Fair and even that was like holy shit,
- 23:37Speaker 1: Like these are real celebrities. I can't believe I'm in
- 23:40Speaker 1: the same room that they're in. Like I wouldn't even
- 23:43Speaker 1: do the carpet at Vanity Fair because I was so
- 23:45Speaker 1: intimidated by just the whole thing.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean so, so I think for me, you know,
- 23:52Speaker 2: you were just honoring our work and all that stuff.
- 23:54Speaker 2: So no, I think that I try to like, I'm overwhelmed.
- 23:58Speaker 2: I mean, I'm sitting with the greatest filmmakers in the world.
- 24:01Speaker 2: I'm sick. So for me, I grew up on Spike Lee,
- 24:04Speaker 2: I grew up on Martin Scorsese, I grew up on
- 24:05Speaker 2: on de Niro, Paccino Pastchi, all these. So for me,
- 24:08Speaker 2: I'm like, oh my god, I'm here with my own movie.
- 24:11Speaker 2: It's hard to register. But once you get past all that,
- 24:14Speaker 2: then you just try to enjoy the show. And you know, look,
- 24:17Speaker 2: I knew it was a long shot we were going
- 24:19Speaker 2: to win, so there was no expectation there, but you know,
- 24:21Speaker 2: you really are just proud to say, wow, we would
- 24:24Speaker 2: look where we came from. We're all here celebrating this night.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Take it all in, try to just be in the moment.
- 24:29Speaker 2: And that's what I did. And then was cool because
- 24:32Speaker 2: then I got to meet up with you and we
- 24:34Speaker 2: went to Vanity Fair, which you do have this thing
- 24:38Speaker 2: which people probably don't know. It's called high level anxiety
- 24:41Speaker 2: social anxiety. And sometimes you're good for about eleven minutes
- 24:44Speaker 2: at an event. Yeah, this was that night. Ye.
- 24:47Speaker 1: It took me about two hours to get ready and
- 24:49Speaker 1: I stayed for all of forty five minutes maximum max.
- 24:52Speaker 2: We might it might have been thirty.
- 24:54Speaker 1: But back to you, my sweet guest.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Yes, But then we went to Vanity Fair and that
- 24:57Speaker 2: was awesome. We were with Marty and we were with everybody.
- 25:01Speaker 1: So you had this incredible night. But what I would
- 25:05Speaker 1: like to ask you, how did you get to where
- 25:08Speaker 1: you are today? Like your journey when you you know,
- 25:12Speaker 1: were a young kid. Now you're at the fucking Oscars.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know how that happened, to be honest,
- 25:18Speaker 2: you do.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Know how that happened because I heard the story.
- 25:21Speaker 2: You didn't get lucky. I got lucky.
- 25:23Speaker 1: You didn't get lucky. You worked very hard.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Listen, you get a little lucky and you meet some
- 25:26Speaker 2: special people. Look in a nutshell. You're right. You work hard.
- 25:30Speaker 2: You have to put in the work. You have to
- 25:32Speaker 2: take the disappointment for many, many years of just struggling
- 25:36Speaker 2: and trying to make it. And that's kind of what happened.
- 25:37Speaker 2: When my stray went to film school in New York City,
- 25:40Speaker 2: I produced my first feature when I was in college.
- 25:42Speaker 2: I moved out to Los Angeles with no money. I
- 25:46Speaker 2: slept on my friend's couch. I you know, had not
- 25:50Speaker 2: a nickel to my name, and you know, just had to,
- 25:53Speaker 2: you know, figure it out. And so I was an
- 25:55Speaker 2: assistant then at a talent agency, and from there I
- 25:58Speaker 2: worked for my best friend Mark, who you know aka
- 26:02Speaker 2: Markey Mark, and he gave me a job when I
- 26:04Speaker 2: really really was down and out.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Was that your first job in Hollywood with with market mind?
- 26:09Speaker 2: My first job was at ICM, a talent agency where
- 26:12Speaker 2: I was an assistant. Okay, then I and Mark and
- 26:14Speaker 2: I had become friends just through mutual friends, and he
- 26:17Speaker 2: had asked me to work for him.
- 26:19Speaker 1: So when your parents decided I'm cutting you off, that
- 26:22Speaker 1: was bad. That was a bad day. Was that when
- 26:25Speaker 1: you went out and got a job at ICM.
- 26:27Speaker 2: Yeah, my parents were like shipping me a little bit
- 26:31Speaker 2: of money every month to keep me going. But then
- 26:34Speaker 2: they had given me like a six month shout. I
- 26:36Speaker 2: was very lucky that I had parents that were able
- 26:38Speaker 2: to help me out, because a lot of people don't
- 26:40Speaker 2: have that. So I was, you know, very lucky. But
- 26:42Speaker 2: I was also probably maybe a little lazy, a little
- 26:45Speaker 2: into going out more, you know.
- 26:46Speaker 1: In La, like most people are when they come to La,
- 26:49Speaker 1: they get caught up.
- 26:50Speaker 2: You get caught up. So I think I was a
- 26:51Speaker 2: little caught up. And so my parents gave me about
- 26:55Speaker 2: a six month shout out. I didn't believe him because
- 26:57Speaker 2: I thought, there's just still keep it going. And then
- 27:00Speaker 2: the month that it was all supposed to end, they
- 27:02Speaker 2: called me up and I said, listen, I'm about to
- 27:05Speaker 2: get evicted and I have a notice for my car
- 27:07Speaker 2: being repossessed. I need a little cash, right you just
- 27:11Speaker 2: help me out. And they said, we have been telling
- 27:13Speaker 2: you for four or five months that you need a
- 27:15Speaker 2: full time job. And I would saying, you don't understand.
- 27:18Speaker 2: I'm trying to be a producer and I'm trying to
- 27:20Speaker 2: raise money and I'm trying to do this and I'm
- 27:21Speaker 2: trying to put it all together, and you don't understand.
- 27:23Speaker 2: I have to network. I have to go out to
- 27:25Speaker 2: the nightclubs and network, and you know, I meet these
- 27:28Speaker 2: trust fund kids and they'd be buying bottles and I'd
- 27:31Speaker 2: be like, oh my god, you're gonna give me a
- 27:32Speaker 2: million dollars for a movie. Of course we're two million
- 27:34Speaker 2: or three millions.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Of course they're drunk when they're telling you this beyond right.
- 27:37Speaker 2: And they're trust funds are probably you know, ten grand
- 27:40Speaker 2: a month, whatever it was. And you know, they were
- 27:42Speaker 2: leading me on, and I wanted to believe whatever they
- 27:44Speaker 2: were telling me, so that that day came. I'll never forget.
- 27:47Speaker 2: My mom reminds me of it to this day. If
- 27:50Speaker 2: I could read Brian the Clock, I would not say
- 27:53Speaker 2: the things I said. But it was out of desperation,
- 27:55Speaker 2: and I was scared. I was desperate, I was, you know,
- 27:59Speaker 2: And so I called my parents up and they called
- 28:01Speaker 2: me sorry after I had said up, we need to
- 28:03Speaker 2: talk about I need a loan for this month. And
- 28:05Speaker 2: they called me up and they said, we love you
- 28:07Speaker 2: very much, and they end my parents and listen, I
- 28:10Speaker 2: am so appreciated. I want to just preface this because
- 28:12Speaker 2: I want to come off with some swolled kid. I
- 28:15Speaker 2: had parents that worked hard and provided me, and I
- 28:19Speaker 2: was very lucky they were able to support me and
- 28:21Speaker 2: put me through college. Very appreciative. But what I want
- 28:24Speaker 2: to say now is that at that time, I needed
- 28:27Speaker 2: the rent, and so I called. They called me and
- 28:29Speaker 2: they said, we're not We're not doing it. We're we're
- 28:32Speaker 2: not paying the rent and we're not paying your car
- 28:35Speaker 2: payment and you're going to need to figure it out.
- 28:37Speaker 2: We asked you for three months to get a full
- 28:39Speaker 2: time job. You have told us all the things I
- 28:42Speaker 2: told them, and we are stopping it today. And I said,
- 28:47Speaker 2: they didn't care if you.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Do.
- 28:49Speaker 2: They noticed I was on like day two because I
- 28:50Speaker 2: thought for sure they're going to come through. So now
- 28:53Speaker 2: they they evicted me. They picked up my car that
- 28:57Speaker 2: went away, and I had nothing. So I moved upstairs
- 29:01Speaker 2: to my friend's place, my buddy SIGHI. I moved up
- 29:04Speaker 2: into his place and I lived on his couch. And
- 29:07Speaker 2: here's the worst part. He had a yin Yang couch,
- 29:09Speaker 2: a yin Yang like you know, the yin Yang sea,
- 29:12Speaker 2: So like, who, Like, who the fuck has a yin
- 29:15Speaker 2: Yang couch? Like this guy can't. He's like that though.
- 29:17Speaker 2: He always is like a weird thing, like everything has
- 29:20Speaker 2: to be fucking different, you know, Like he's the guy
- 29:22Speaker 2: that builds like three fucking fish tanks in a wall
- 29:25Speaker 2: in a living like why yeah, yeah, And he's my buddy.
- 29:29Speaker 2: I love him. He was there for me, so I
- 29:31Speaker 2: move upstairs. I'm like, now I gotta live on a
- 29:33Speaker 2: yin yang couch? Was like half an ass, so I'm
- 29:34Speaker 2: falling off, you know. I mean it was a torture.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Couldn't just have a regular couch to sleep on. Our
- 29:40Speaker 2: other friend slept on the floor behind the couch.
- 29:43Speaker 1: So wow, y'all were all fucking degenerated.
- 29:45Speaker 2: We were like, yeah, we were. We're broke as they come.
- 29:47Speaker 2: But you know, I will tell you something. If my
- 29:49Speaker 2: parents didn't do that to me, I don't think i'd
- 29:52Speaker 2: have any I would be nowhere where I am today because,
- 29:54Speaker 2: let me tell you, it gives you razor focus, lightning focus.
- 29:58Speaker 2: And within six months, true story, within six months of
- 30:02Speaker 2: them cutting me off and me having nothing, And I
- 30:05Speaker 2: remember I had to take a bike to the office
- 30:07Speaker 2: that it was rookie on. That's how bad it was.
- 30:08Speaker 2: They didn't have Uber. Okay, so all you young people,
- 30:12Speaker 2: Uber didn't exist, Okay. I was either in a yellow
- 30:15Speaker 2: taxi or on the bike. And within six months I
- 30:18Speaker 2: had raised I had literally raised. I had met George
- 30:21Speaker 2: Furle and my partner. George had raised the money for us,
- 30:25Speaker 2: and I did my first feature film, I think within
- 30:27Speaker 2: nine months of that. As much as you raise well.
- 30:30Speaker 2: I told George the budget when I first met him,
- 30:32Speaker 2: because I was so desperate to make a movie. I
- 30:33Speaker 2: told him budget was like four or five hundred grand.
- 30:36Speaker 2: It was one point eight million in the end, but
- 30:38Speaker 2: I told him because I just needed a paycheck, so
- 30:41Speaker 2: I needed it whatever it took. I said, in four
- 30:42Speaker 2: hundred grand, it's all you got, let's make the movie.
- 30:44Speaker 2: And George was last. George last to this day. But
- 30:47Speaker 2: when we got into it, because this budget is at four
- 30:49Speaker 2: hundred grand, and he's like, and I go, yeah, I
- 30:52Speaker 2: just said we could make it for four hundred as
- 30:54Speaker 2: though we'll make it for like an and he raised
- 30:56Speaker 2: the money for like a million a half dollars. Back then,
- 30:57Speaker 2: it was a lot. So we went made this first movie.
- 31:00Speaker 2: I at my check. True story I had. I was.
- 31:03Speaker 2: I was subletting like a room in somebody's house. At
- 31:07Speaker 2: that point, I'd moved into like somebody's house. And I
- 31:10Speaker 2: went home to Florida because I was so broke and
- 31:12Speaker 2: waiting for this movie to happen. And I was at
- 31:14Speaker 2: my parents' house and George called me up and said, well,
- 31:17Speaker 2: I'm gonna make this movie. I've raised the money and
- 31:19Speaker 2: I'm gonna give you the first check, zero zero one.
- 31:22Speaker 2: And it was the thing for twelve thousand and five hours. Now,
- 31:24Speaker 2: remember this is twenty three years ago, so twelve grand
- 31:27Speaker 2: would probably be like thirty thirty five grand. I remember
- 31:30Speaker 2: my dad opened up a bank account for me. He
- 31:33Speaker 2: made a corporation for me. We put the money in.
- 31:35Speaker 2: I went and bought a used BMW that the door
- 31:38Speaker 2: didn't work on the right side.
- 31:39Speaker 1: It doesn't matter. It's a beamer. Brother.
- 31:41Speaker 2: I was bawling out, and I bought those aftermarket rims
- 31:45Speaker 2: and I dropped the tints on that car. I was,
- 31:48Speaker 2: I was, I was the king and I and I
- 31:50Speaker 2: was able to go rent like a fifteen hundred hours
- 31:51Speaker 2: on the apartment and we went made this first movie
- 31:54Speaker 2: and then George said, after that and then I'll leave it.
- 31:56Speaker 2: After George said, do you want to, you know, be partners?
- 32:00Speaker 2: And I was like, yeah, let's let's try it out.
- 32:02Speaker 2: And then we went on to make and I was
- 32:03Speaker 2: so afraid of being broke.
- 32:06Speaker 1: I was because you knew what that was like.
- 32:08Speaker 2: It was, it was horrible. And I remember and I said,
- 32:12Speaker 2: I just I George, like, you're really aggressive with making
- 32:14Speaker 2: lots of movies. And I said, let's just keep going.
- 32:16Speaker 2: And we just kept going, going, going, and in the
- 32:19Speaker 2: same and now we're one hundred and ten films in.
- 32:21Speaker 2: But you know, it's the same mentality when you've been
- 32:23Speaker 2: broke and you know there's no lifeline, you know, it
- 32:27Speaker 2: really forces you to get focused. And I think that
- 32:30Speaker 2: was a blessing that my parents cut me off when
- 32:32Speaker 2: they did, because I think they were enabling me, you know, to.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Write you were comfortable.
- 32:37Speaker 2: I was comfortable.
- 32:37Speaker 1: We talk about that all the time. You and Iran
- 32:40Speaker 1: is like, it's so good when you start feeling uncomfortable
- 32:43Speaker 1: because you get your ass moving again.
- 32:44Speaker 2: It's the best, the best. And I think I think
- 32:47Speaker 2: that now the transitioning to directing my first film coming up.
- 32:53Speaker 2: I think the reason I did.
- 32:54Speaker 1: You just drop a bomb on the podcast without any
- 32:57Speaker 1: type of warning. I did, Randall Emmett is going to
- 33:01Speaker 1: make his directorial debut.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Yes it's happening, Yes, March ninth, we start shooting, And
- 33:07Speaker 2: I'm going to tell you the reason I did that is,
- 33:10Speaker 2: you know, I have become comfortable as a producer. I
- 33:14Speaker 2: think I'm good at what I do, and I love
- 33:16Speaker 2: what I'm great at what you do, and I think
- 33:18Speaker 2: it's my heart, it's my passion, right, But I wanted
- 33:21Speaker 2: to try something that I knew I would always try
- 33:23Speaker 2: one day and I was like, what am I waiting for?
- 33:26Speaker 2: And I feel like, if I want to be a
- 33:28Speaker 2: good role model for my children, I want them to
- 33:31Speaker 2: see that you have to challenge yourself even when you're
- 33:33Speaker 2: good at something. Like I think I'm a good producer,
- 33:36Speaker 2: I want to try something that's going to make me uncomfortable.
- 33:39Speaker 2: And directing my first movie is very scary, and it's
- 33:43Speaker 2: something that I've hired one hundred and ten directors and
- 33:46Speaker 2: watched the greatest, but I've also seen, you know, some
- 33:49Speaker 2: a lot of mistakes and now it's like I'm on
- 33:52Speaker 2: the shopping block and I have to either deliver or
- 33:54Speaker 2: or not.
- 33:55Speaker 1: I think you're going to be really great at this.
- 33:59Speaker 1: You do, I really do, because even on the sets
- 34:02Speaker 1: that I've been on with you, even if I'm not
- 34:06Speaker 1: acting in them, you have a special relationship with the actors,
- 34:10Speaker 1: and I think that's important when you're a director. You
- 34:12Speaker 1: have to, you know, form those bonds with each person
- 34:16Speaker 1: to get the character out of them.
- 34:18Speaker 2: I think you're right. I think I think my favorite
- 34:20Speaker 2: thing is because I grew up as an actor. I
- 34:23Speaker 2: love I love you know, actors. I think that gift
- 34:26Speaker 2: that you that you all have.
- 34:28Speaker 1: But is it true that you're a really bad actor?
- 34:30Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 34:30Speaker 1: Your mom told me that.
- 34:31Speaker 2: First of all, my mom's wrong. I'm not a bad actor.
- 34:33Speaker 1: My mom said you were really bad and she thinks
- 34:36Speaker 1: God that you produced instead because you're incredible at producers.
- 34:39Speaker 2: Are you being serious right now? You're like laughing? What
- 34:45Speaker 2: the fuck is wrong with you? Because would you find
- 34:48Speaker 2: that funny?
- 34:49Speaker 1: Think about it.
- 34:49Speaker 2: I will have an actor on you. I will have
- 34:51Speaker 2: an act off fucking competition right now with you, Randall.
- 34:54Speaker 1: We have an act off competition every day when I
- 34:56Speaker 1: ask you to read a fucking script with me. Listen
- 34:58Speaker 1: to me. I think amazing. No, no, no, no, it's amazing
- 35:03Speaker 1: that you were not a great actor because Alex, Okay,
- 35:06Speaker 1: you're you're zoning in on the rod.
- 35:07Speaker 2: I want to talk to Alix right now. I'm talking
- 35:09Speaker 2: to my producer. Hold on, Alex. As a guest, do
- 35:12Speaker 2: you think that this is appropriate to go on a
- 35:15Speaker 2: podcast and have the interviewer tell you suck it something?
- 35:18Speaker 1: Alex? Do you think it's appropriate for the guests to
- 35:20Speaker 1: be banging the host?
- 35:22Speaker 2: Oh? We're engaged.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Thank you, we're engaged, so I can say these things
- 35:27Speaker 1: to you.
- 35:28Speaker 2: I want to go back to.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Okay, listen, all right, we've made everyone uncomfortable.
- 35:33Speaker 4: I wish I did. I respond absolutely. First of all,
- 35:38Speaker 4: my mom, I love her. What fucking authority is she
- 35:43Speaker 4: on fucking acting? And let me tell you something.
- 35:46Speaker 2: If she fucking hears this scot cast, Mom, you're fucking
- 35:48Speaker 2: fired on the next movie. I'm not playing. I love you, okay,
- 35:51Speaker 2: but you're on time out on the next movie.
- 35:53Speaker 1: Sorry, Leslie, I didn't mean to get you fired.
- 35:54Speaker 2: Did she really say I sucked?
- 35:56Speaker 1: She didn't say you suck. She was like body decided
- 35:59Speaker 1: to be a produce. Sorry, it's so bad at actings
- 36:02Speaker 1: said I was bad.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Yes, the word bad came out of her mouth.
- 36:06Speaker 1: You just said you were bad.
- 36:07Speaker 2: No, but I could say it was bad. She can't
- 36:10Speaker 2: say it was bad. I went to the best performing
- 36:12Speaker 2: arts high school in the US. You will to school
- 36:14Speaker 2: the arts.
- 36:14Speaker 1: Circle back to the positive.
- 36:16Speaker 2: I'm really right now. I'm shocked. I need a minute.
- 36:19Speaker 2: I need a minute.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Do you need a drink?
- 36:21Speaker 2: I want to go to a break right now. Very
- 36:23Speaker 2: upset you right now, and my mom, I'm really pissed.
- 36:26Speaker 1: No, you shouldn't be upset because guess what you if
- 36:29Speaker 1: you decided like, but I really love acting, and then
- 36:32Speaker 1: it didn't go anywhere like you decided.
- 36:34Speaker 2: No, but I believe if I wanted to be an actor,
- 36:37Speaker 2: stay at it, I would have been Tom Cruise. So
- 36:39Speaker 2: I chose because I love movies too much, my passion
- 36:42Speaker 2: for behind the scenes. But I want to give it
- 36:44Speaker 2: where you are. You are side stepping? What is going on?
- 36:47Speaker 1: I think you're side stepping? First of all, my mom,
- 36:49Speaker 1: I may have side stepped a little.
- 36:51Speaker 2: Did my mom use the word back because I'm checking
- 36:53Speaker 2: after this call, I'm calling her now.
- 36:55Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no, we're not calling right now.
- 36:57Speaker 2: No, no, no, no, no no, I just want to ask her.
- 37:00Speaker 1: This is a podcast, We're not doing that. Put the
- 37:02Speaker 1: phone down. Can I just can call her after?
- 37:04Speaker 2: Okay, but I want to just rewind I can say. So.
- 37:07Speaker 1: I guess I shouldn't say there were.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Better actors than me growing up. I would say, like
- 37:13Speaker 2: in my high school class, like Katie Fennern who's won
- 37:16Speaker 2: the Tony Ward twice, Andrea Burns who's on Broadway. I
- 37:19Speaker 2: would say, let's say, out of the sixteen kids in
- 37:22Speaker 2: the high school class, I was probably not number sixteen
- 37:25Speaker 2: in ability. I was probably number fourteen.
- 37:28Speaker 1: Okay, well, you can't be great at at all, you know,
- 37:30Speaker 1: you just can't. It's not fair. Yeah, so I guess
- 37:32Speaker 1: this would be the wrong time to ask you. What
- 37:36Speaker 1: was it like?
- 37:37Speaker 2: You can keep going to lose again? Now? Oh so,
- 37:40Speaker 2: first off, suck you suck for No, here's the worst
- 37:43Speaker 2: bad I just want to say that it's not even
- 37:45Speaker 2: that bad. It's not even that bad that you that
- 37:47Speaker 2: you call me a bad actor. That's fine, but you
- 37:49Speaker 2: said bag. My mother says, I'm background and I lost
- 37:53Speaker 2: the oscar. This is a fucking great podcast. Don't ever
- 37:56Speaker 2: invite me on again. Okay, you would don't ever invite
- 37:59Speaker 2: me on your fuck podcast again as a guest.
- 38:01Speaker 1: I'm the fucking host.
- 38:05Speaker 2: If it hurts, why because you fucking think this is funny.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Good good luck trying to go to dinner with me tonight.
- 38:11Speaker 2: Good luck, best of luck to him you want to
- 38:13Speaker 2: go to dinner a night. Okay, I'll just say this,
- 38:16Speaker 2: and this is the truth. You know, I'm joking and
- 38:18Speaker 2: I love my mom and have a conversation.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Of course I joking.
- 38:21Speaker 2: And I wasn't the best actor clearly because out of
- 38:24Speaker 2: all the schools I auditioned for my top four, I
- 38:27Speaker 2: didn't get in. So right, Okay, but let's just go
- 38:30Speaker 2: backwards losing the Oscar. I went in knowing we weren't
- 38:34Speaker 2: going to win. That's the truth. Now deep inside, you say,
- 38:37Speaker 2: like a little kid, one percent chance, you hope, they say,
- 38:40Speaker 2: but I knew we weren't gonna win. I would say
- 38:42Speaker 2: losing the Golden Globe was catastrophic, But I really care
- 38:46Speaker 2: to lose the Oscar. Yeah, of course I want to win,
- 38:48Speaker 2: but I know it's an honor to be able to say,
- 38:50Speaker 2: for the rest of my life, I'm an Oscar nominated producer,
- 38:53Speaker 2: that's a big deal for me. And can I tell you?
- 38:55Speaker 2: And I'm gonna I don't want to want to drag
- 38:57Speaker 2: on this part. When we got home last night, it
- 39:00Speaker 2: was the highlight. It was better than winning the Oscar Let's.
- 39:02Speaker 1: High five right now, seriously, I agree, baby.
- 39:06Speaker 2: When we got home and you tell them what you
- 39:09Speaker 2: what you saw? We got home.
- 39:10Speaker 1: I saw that my step babies, Randall's babies drew all
- 39:16Speaker 1: of these pictures. Yeah, one of the Oscar statue and
- 39:20Speaker 1: on it said World's best Dad. Are you gonna cry?
- 39:23Speaker 1: It was very sweet. And then they they wrote irishmen
- 39:26Speaker 1: and it said go Go go. And they also the
- 39:30Speaker 1: nanny filled me in that every time you were nominated.
- 39:35Speaker 2: The movie, every time every time the.
- 39:37Speaker 1: Movie category for the kids would boo the other we're
- 39:44Speaker 1: really teaching them how to be a know.
- 39:50Speaker 2: I'm gonna wrap this up, but I want to say
- 39:51Speaker 2: I had a conversation with London today. You call me
- 39:53Speaker 2: and she's like, Dad, you know, I you know, I
- 39:55Speaker 2: just want you to know that we were cheering for
- 39:57Speaker 2: you to win. And I said, I just want you
- 39:59Speaker 2: to know that, you know, win or lose. Your dad
- 40:01Speaker 2: was dominated. You know, that's a big deal. And she
- 40:03Speaker 2: was so excited. She said, Dad, I told everybody in
- 40:05Speaker 2: my school that you were nominated for an Oscar and
- 40:08Speaker 2: they couldn't believe it. So they they were so excited.
- 40:11Speaker 2: And I'm just happy that they got to both watch
- 40:13Speaker 2: the show. And they know, you know, they I tell
- 40:16Speaker 2: them it's a very special honor. Whether you win or lose,
- 40:19Speaker 2: you that you get to be acknowledged like this, and
- 40:22Speaker 2: and and even if you don't win the trophy, the
- 40:25Speaker 2: fact that you know you make something special. And I
- 40:28Speaker 2: said to them, Daddy works very hard to get to
- 40:31Speaker 2: this place, and I expect both of you to do
- 40:33Speaker 2: the same with whatever you do. And I think it
- 40:35Speaker 2: was just a beautiful night to come home.
- 40:37Speaker 1: And it was an amazing night. And as my guest,
- 40:40Speaker 1: but most importantly as my fiance, I am so proud
- 40:43Speaker 1: of you.
- 40:44Speaker 2: Thank you, baby.
- 40:44Speaker 1: You freaking killed it with this movie. Everybody that was
- 40:47Speaker 1: involved killed with this movie, and you all should be
- 40:50Speaker 1: incredibly proud. This film will go down in history as
- 40:54Speaker 1: a very great one.
- 40:55Speaker 2: I agree, And I think that Martin Scorsese and Emma
- 40:58Speaker 2: and Jane Rosenthal, you know, all the people involved are
- 41:02Speaker 2: just I'm blessed tacular. Yeah, blessed to be in their company.
- 41:05Speaker 2: I've learned, by the way, five years between Silence and Irishmen,
- 41:09Speaker 2: two movies with Marty and Emma, and I've learned so
- 41:12Speaker 2: much from them. It was like film school all over,
- 41:15Speaker 2: but at the highest level, the highest level. And I'm
- 41:17Speaker 2: just privileged to be in their company. And I really mean.
- 41:20Speaker 2: I don't say that about a lot of people. You
- 41:21Speaker 2: know that because my ego is too big. But I
- 41:24Speaker 2: am privileged to be in their company. They are some
- 41:27Speaker 2: of the greatest talents in the movie business.
- 41:29Speaker 1: And you're a great talent as well. Baby.
- 41:31Speaker 2: Thank you, baby.
- 41:32Speaker 1: So that was my guest, Randal Emmas and now you're
- 41:36Speaker 1: very welcome. And now I'm gonna I'm going to invite
- 41:39Speaker 1: Randall back as my host. We want to thank you
- 41:43Speaker 1: guys so much for listening to give them La Lah
- 41:46Speaker 1: with Randall, and remember we love hearing from you. So
- 41:49Speaker 1: hit a Boy and a Girl up at eight six six,
- 41:52Speaker 1: La La Pod. That number is eight sixty six La
- 41:55Speaker 1: La Pod. Have the best day ever. Babes,
