- 0:15Speaker 1: G recording by Robert Robinson. Manx Fairy Tales by Sophia Morrison,
- 0:24Speaker 1: Chapter nineteen, kebeg. There is a deep dub or pool
- 0:30Speaker 1: on Balacone's Stream, which the children of Laxey call Nickison's.
- 0:36Speaker 1: It is the home of Niker, the water goblin. It
- 0:39Speaker 1: has no bottom, and brambles and ferns are growing round it,
- 0:43Speaker 1: and fir trees and hazels are hiding it from sight.
- 0:47Speaker 1: No child, no grown up person even will go near
- 0:50Speaker 1: it after dark. A great many years ago, a beautiful
- 0:55Speaker 1: girl living at Ballyquine was sent to look for the
- 0:58Speaker 1: calves which had gone astray. She had got as far
- 1:02Speaker 1: as Nickison's when she took a notion that she heard
- 1:04Speaker 1: the calves over the river in Johnny Baldoon's nuts. At
- 1:09Speaker 1: once she began to call to them Cabag cae beck
- 1:13Speaker 1: ca Bag, so loud that you could hear her. At
- 1:17Speaker 1: Chivers Ferrick Patrick's well, the people could hear her calling
- 1:22Speaker 1: quite plainly. But behold, a great mist came and rolled
- 1:26Speaker 1: down the valley and shut it from sight. The people
- 1:31Speaker 1: on one side of the valley could hear her voice, yet,
- 1:33Speaker 1: calling through the mist. Cap Bag came back, came back.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Then came a sweet voice through the mist and the
- 1:43Speaker 1: trees in answer, Capbeg's here, Capeg's here. And she cried,
- 1:50Speaker 1: I'm coming, I'm coming. And that was all. The fairies
- 1:58Speaker 1: who lived in Nichoson's had pulled her in and carried
- 2:01Speaker 1: her to their own home. She was never heard of again.
- 2:10Speaker 1: End of Chapter nineteen. Recording by Robert Robinson
