- 0:12SPEAKER_00: We're always growing.
- 0:15SPEAKER_03: You know, knowing to have to battle.
- 0:17SPEAKER_03: Isn't that what uh G.I.
- 0:18SPEAKER_03: Joe told us?
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: Go.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Gotta be open to outcomes.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Show up pay attention.
- 0:26SPEAKER_01: Go.
- 0:29unknown: I know.
- 0:30unknown: Go.
- 0:31SPEAKER_03: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Mike Blitz.
- 0:33SPEAKER_03: I'm your host, Mike White.
- 0:34SPEAKER_03: Mike Wade, my co-host, South Russian over there, Mike White.
- 0:37SPEAKER_03: What's up, my gang?
- 0:38SPEAKER_03: How you doing, dude?
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Hey, man, happy Wednesday.
- 0:41SPEAKER_03: We're getting through one more week.
- 0:43SPEAKER_03: Getting through one more week.
- 0:44SPEAKER_03: This week's been a slog.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: I'm exhausted.
- 0:46SPEAKER_03: We're coming to you at 10 o'clock on Wednesday night.
- 0:49SPEAKER_03: Um, how you been, man?
- 0:51SPEAKER_03: What's new with you?
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Oh, man, I'm exhausted too.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Um, but it's we had had a fun weekend and took the kitties to Busch Gardens.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: Some some precious core memories uh for Archie.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: That was a whole lot of fun.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Uh, how about you?
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Uh I was at Shrine.
- 1:08SPEAKER_03: I think I told you guys last week, so I was been I was in the mountains all summer, which was cool.
- 1:11SPEAKER_03: Uh, but it was, you know, up late two nights in a row, uh, not sleeping super well.
- 1:16SPEAKER_03: And you know, I like to pretend that I'm 22 when I'm actually at 39.
- 1:19SPEAKER_03: So it's you know, I'm Wednesday and I'm still don't feel right.
- 1:22SPEAKER_03: So otherwise, I'm good.
- 1:23SPEAKER_03: My uh my cuppeth overflow was a great weekend seeing uh lots of people.
- 1:27SPEAKER_03: You were definitely missed, but um feeling feeling good about that.
- 1:32SPEAKER_03: Uh I actually missed the entire LSU game.
- 1:35SPEAKER_03: I was watching it on my phone, like in the middle of the mountains.
- 1:37SPEAKER_03: So I was kind of keeping up with it.
- 1:38SPEAKER_03: Um, and obviously when I got towards the end, I will but when I got home, the first thing I did instead of watching NFL football on Sunday is I watched the whole thing on DVR, like right smack in middle of the commander's game.
- 1:48SPEAKER_03: I gotta tell you, it was way more enjoyable than anything the NFL was gonna present to me.
- 1:51SPEAKER_03: So I actually have no regrets about that.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: But we'll talk about LSU ulmus in a minute.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's that's uh one of the the biggest, if not only, major flaw of uh being up on the mountain.
- 2:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah, correct.
- 2:04SPEAKER_03: Totally.
- 2:04SPEAKER_03: Uh but before we get into all that, what what you drinking?
- 2:08SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm drinking a beer from The Answer.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: I was back in our old stomping grounds.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, actually picking up a uh I was over there picking up a pizza from our our old pal Willoughby Obenchain at Secret Squares.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I got a delicious uh pizza from him on Tuesday and picked up uh some binge thinking.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: It's a hazy dipa from The Answer, and it's awesome.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: I bet you whatever the heck that is is delicious.
- 2:33SPEAKER_03: And Answer is a brewery here in Richmond.
- 2:35SPEAKER_03: Um, they do super good stuff.
- 2:37SPEAKER_03: Mike and I uh before kids used to stake that place out a whole lot more than we have to time for now, but it's always it was also like a mile from our house houses when we lived in the same not even a mile.
- 2:46SPEAKER_03: Like we could we walked there at least a couple times.
- 2:48SPEAKER_03: It was super, super close.
- 2:49SPEAKER_03: That and Mekong.
- 2:50SPEAKER_03: Very nice.
- 2:50SPEAKER_03: Uh, I'm ready for some Answer beer in my life.
- 2:52SPEAKER_03: I'm drinking uh Sierra Nevada's Liquid Hoppiness IPA, 7% juicy IPA, cloudy deliciousness.
- 2:59SPEAKER_03: I think I drank this like three or four shows ago.
- 3:00SPEAKER_03: I had one left back in my fridge, and it sounded really good tonight.
- 3:03SPEAKER_03: I'll tell you, uh Mike got married, uh not me, that Mike got married um outside uh Ashland, and we actually went to the Sierra Nevada like mega plant, uh East Coast distributing super center.
- 3:15SPEAKER_03: Asheville, thank you.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: Ashland's in uh that's probably like the Redskins train.
- 3:18SPEAKER_03: Uh Asheville, thank you.
- 3:20SPEAKER_03: Um, and ever since going to that place, I've just had a whole new level of respect for Sierra Nevada.
- 3:26SPEAKER_03: I always thought they were good beer.
- 3:27SPEAKER_03: I always thought they did then they were one of the first uh people folks on the IPA uh uh front line, but um everything I see from them I just like.
- 3:36SPEAKER_03: When I was there, I I know they had 15 IPAs, and they're all good, they're all real good.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: So that's yeah, they uh Asheville has a really, really sweet beer scene.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: If you're a beer nerd, you probably already know that, but we had a good time.
- 3:48SPEAKER_03: We did have a good time, and you know, see we we we did we did the micro stuff, definitely the mic gotta get the micro stuff when you go to Asheville.
- 3:54SPEAKER_03: But going to the Sierra Nevada superstore was also mega sweet.
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: So anyway, uh let's talk about uh this week of college football.
- 4:01SPEAKER_03: It was a pretty good week.
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: Um, college football, obviously.
- 4:04SPEAKER_03: I mean, uh it's always a good week when our teams get get the big wins.
- 4:07SPEAKER_03: Let's start what we always do.
- 4:08SPEAKER_03: We'll start with uh we'll start at the top.
- 4:10SPEAKER_03: Uh we'll start at this time it's Ohio State, uh taking down uh uh Iowa 54 to 10.
- 4:16SPEAKER_03: Um ugly, lobsided game.
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: I have two thoughts on this game that I'll invite yours.
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: One, um, did you see that fake punt that Iowa tried to do where the guy danced for like 10 minutes was like, I'm gonna kick it, I'm not, I'm gonna kick it, I'm not, and then got tackled for like a 10-yard loss.
- 4:31SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 4:32SPEAKER_03: That was one of the most painfully cringe plays I've ever seen.
- 4:35SPEAKER_03: Second thought was just follow up.
- 4:36SPEAKER_03: The first thought is how does any coach let that happen?
- 4:39SPEAKER_03: I think the Ferenc era has got to be over in Iowa.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Um, it's really funny.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: We were talking about this game last week, and we had this sentiment, but I saw it put out by somebody somewhere, and they were like, Iowa's keys to the game, keep the offense off the field.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: Good luck.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: Keep their own offense off the field.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Sounds like a good idea.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: I so that pretty much sums it up.
- 5:06SPEAKER_03: That sounds nice.
- 5:07SPEAKER_03: Uh George was on a bios, which why we didn't touch on them.
- 5:10SPEAKER_03: Um, Iowa continues to roll, and I think they're still without Jackson uh Smith the Jigma, who's their wide out, who might be the most talented player in Ohio State.
- 5:17SPEAKER_03: Um, they continue to do what I think they're gonna do.
- 5:20SPEAKER_03: Collision courses pointing straight towards that game against Ann Arbor in the shoe.
- 5:24SPEAKER_03: Yeah, they still have not played anybody.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: No, they have one of the only teams nationally, especially at this level, that that hasn't even played I mean, the anyone.
- 5:34SPEAKER_03: Well, the problem yeah, the problem is the Big Ten West is just so much worse than we're expected.
- 5:38SPEAKER_03: You know, I mean Illinois is a nice story, but like Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, these are teams that are supposed to be like Nebraska, these are all teams that are supposed Purdue, even Purdue's actually not a bad story this year.
- 5:50SPEAKER_03: There's these are all teams that are supposed to be better and they're all terrible.
- 5:54SPEAKER_03: Michigan State's still good.
- 5:55SPEAKER_03: I think the drop-off between I think Penn State's not very good anymore, which we should probably talk about uh pretty soon.
- 5:59SPEAKER_03: I think James Franklin's time is also coming to an end.
- 6:02SPEAKER_03: But no, I think you're make a point that I say has not been truly tested yet, but um doesn't matter.
- 6:07SPEAKER_03: They're gonna we're gonna find out, you know, sooner or later.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that's not to say they're not a very good team.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Obviously, they passed the eye test.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna keep saying it, I'm gonna keep reminding everyone who already knows that they haven't played anybody.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: Um, but they're still uber talented.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: They've got one of the, you know, their offense is sick, their defense has improved.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: So um, yeah, we'll we'll find out uh the last game of the season, I guess.
- 6:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we'll find you know, it's nice that they get around to that, you know, really getting a test.
- 6:33SPEAKER_03: If if you're not gonna do it, just make sure you do it before you're done.
- 6:36SPEAKER_03: Week 12, might as well.
- 6:38SPEAKER_03: I'd appreciate it.
- 6:38SPEAKER_03: You just get around to it.
- 6:39SPEAKER_03: Thanks, thanks, Buckeyes.
- 6:41SPEAKER_03: Um, what's next?
- 6:42SPEAKER_03: Uh, number five, Clemson eeks out.
- 6:44SPEAKER_03: Uh, ugly win against number 14, Syracuse.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: Uh, our boy DJU got benched, although Kate Kloback come in, didn't do much either.
- 6:52SPEAKER_03: Uh Clemson, here's my here's my take on Clemson.
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: Uh, nice win.
- 6:55SPEAKER_03: Syracuse is a respectful team.
- 6:57SPEAKER_03: Nice win.
- 6:57SPEAKER_03: Clemson is the team I'm most confident will one make it to the playoff, and two, get absolutely blasted.
- 7:05SPEAKER_03: Uh, this Clemson team is just continues to not be a Clemson team of old.
- 7:09SPEAKER_03: Will Shipley's a nice piece.
- 7:10SPEAKER_03: Uh Brian Brizé and Brizie, Brizie, Brizette, uh, Miles Murphy, they have KJ Henry.
- 7:15SPEAKER_03: Those, they have players, but they don't do anything really, really well like these old Clemson teams.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: No, and um Clemson's defensive front really showed up and kind of kept them around in the game.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: I don't think that you can be a true national title contender and be sort of juggling or questionable with that quarterback spot.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: And DJ Uliangalile has played great, he's played so much better.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Um, but we've we've been talking about Klebnik and and we've been talking about you know their sort of lack of trust or lack of buy-in there for a while, and they needed all the help they could get to win that game at home against a pretty good Syracuse team.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: They're in the story, but they're not they're you know, they're they're a good team, but no, I like Sean Tucker, he's nice back, and Garrett Schrader.
- 8:05SPEAKER_03: Do you know Baber's a solid coach and Garrett Schrader is an okay option?
- 8:08SPEAKER_03: But no, this is for a playoff team to be struggling at home, being down, what was that?
- 8:14SPEAKER_03: 21 to 10 at half, not good.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: I just I don't I don't I don't think this is this is the worst version of Clemson that will be a playoff team.
- 8:22SPEAKER_03: Clemson's made the playoff, I don't know, six, seven times in the last 10 years.
- 8:26SPEAKER_03: I think this is gonna be the worst Clemson team to make the playoff.
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: And I'm just I'm pretty darn sure they're gonna show up.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: They're probably the worst top, what, six, seventeen out of all the kind of top-ranked undefeateds.
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: Uh, you know, I I mean I think I'd probably put them over TCU.
- 8:42SPEAKER_03: I don't think TCU is number TCU is number seven.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: No, I would say TCU is better than than Clemson.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: They've beaten more ranked teams, they've beat, they've got a such stronger resume, I think.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: All right, and they they passed the eye test much more than Clemson's.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: I mean, the big 12 at quarterback, yeah, Duggan.
- 8:57SPEAKER_03: It's a good coach.
- 8:57SPEAKER_03: Sonny Dugan.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: They've got they're more explosive, their offense is is far head over heels better than Clemson's.
- 9:04SPEAKER_03: I just think Clemson, I mean, this is the for me.
- 9:06SPEAKER_03: I mean, maybe you're right.
- 9:06SPEAKER_03: Maybe this is just like a I just I'm I'm just I'm kind of not I'm not willing to recognize what I see.
- 9:12SPEAKER_03: Clemson's roster is just so much more talented than TCU's.
- 9:15SPEAKER_03: Outside out, I mean Quentin Johnson, the wide out for uh TCU is an absolute stud.
- 9:19SPEAKER_03: You gotta keep what this guy's like 6'4, 250, and he moves like a deer.
- 9:22SPEAKER_03: It's awesome.
- 9:23SPEAKER_03: Um, but outside of him, I just think Clemson has more talents.
- 9:26SPEAKER_03: But if we're talking if we're talking resume, if we're talking who's done what, the Big 12 is a much tougher conference than the ACC is this year, that's for sure.
- 9:34SPEAKER_03: So that's a that's a reasonable.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: And if you're talking about kind of if we're just gonna compare these teams apples to apples, um, first off, uh TCU's been much better at the quarterback position.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: Um, I would give TCU's coaching staff a big edge this year over Clemson's coaching staff.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: Yes, um, they TCU has made adjustments, they've won it in a lot of different ways.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: They've looked they've just looked smarter and more uh uh I don't know, dynamic than than Clemson.
- 10:02SPEAKER_00: Clemson continues to be searching for answers um in their coaching staff.
- 10:07SPEAKER_03: Well, here's the thing TCU's also like, I mean, the Big 12 is just I mean, I would say Big 12 top to bottom is the second best coach in the second best conference in the league.
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: They've still got um uh at West Virginia, they're only West Virginia is the worst team in the Big 12, and TCU's the best.
- 10:20SPEAKER_03: They're only a seven-point favorite.
- 10:22SPEAKER_03: Just kind of speaks to the quality top to bottom of the Big 12 versus Texas Tech, which is gonna play run and shoot with Joey McGuire.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: They're pretty good.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: They're not a good, they're a good team at Texas, which you never know.
- 10:32SPEAKER_03: In Austin, maybe Quinn Ewer's balls out, maybe Texas is not back.
- 10:35SPEAKER_03: You just don't know what version you're getting, but that's gonna be a tough game.
- 10:37SPEAKER_03: At Baylor, um Dave Aranda.
- 10:39SPEAKER_03: I know they're not they're not they failed to meet my hopes from this year.
- 10:42SPEAKER_03: They're still pretty good.
- 10:43SPEAKER_03: And versus I and versus Iowa State.
- 10:44SPEAKER_03: Iowa State's probably the worst team in the league, and they have one of the best coaches in Matt Campbell.
- 10:48SPEAKER_03: So TCU running the table, then I'll be fully be on board with your take.
- 10:54SPEAKER_03: You know, because they got plenty of tests ahead of them.
- 10:56SPEAKER_03: Meanwhile, Clemson is gonna just fall backwards directly into the well, yeah, they'll they'll moonwalk from here on out.
- 11:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 11:03SPEAKER_03: Uh, but that's enough about that's enough about TCU.
- 11:06SPEAKER_03: That's about one game.
- 11:07SPEAKER_03: Um, uh, let's keep moving.
- 11:09SPEAKER_03: Um let's talk about TCU Kansas State.
- 11:12SPEAKER_03: Uh again, like you said yourself, figure out ways to win.
- 11:14SPEAKER_03: Uh, they were down 28-17 that game and came back and and shut shut down Kansas State, uh, who's a good offense.
- 11:20SPEAKER_03: Good um, Andrew Martinez has been a much better version of Andrew Martinez than he was in Nebraska.
- 11:25SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, absolutely.
- 11:26SPEAKER_03: Shut them out in the second half, 21-0.
- 11:28SPEAKER_03: Um, I you know, uh one of the big things I was super suspect on was their defense, and they certainly did make some adjustments.
- 11:34SPEAKER_03: Deuce Vaughn is awesome back, and he didn't do a whole lot.
- 11:37SPEAKER_03: Um, so I you're you're you're you're you're swaying me.
- 11:41SPEAKER_03: You're swaying me on TCU.
- 11:42SPEAKER_03: Maybe I should love them more than I do.
- 11:44SPEAKER_03: Um anything, anything else you want to add on TCU Kansas State?
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: No, I just think, you know, with TCU's success, um, Max Duggan has kind of emerged as one of those Heisman kind of fringe front runners.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: He's he's putting up the numbers.
- 11:58SPEAKER_00: He had three touchdowns, he's playing really flawless football, he's not turning the ball over.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: And TCU's, you know, I mean, they're just they're doing it on offense and they're doing it enough on defense when they have to.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 12:10SPEAKER_00: So um, yeah, I mean, they they've gotten probably more quality wins as far as top 25 opponents than anybody.
- 12:17SPEAKER_03: Oh, oh, maybe.
- 12:18SPEAKER_03: I'll maybe can we get a fact checker out there?
- 12:21SPEAKER_03: Some of you on somebody somebody go ahead and chip fact check and then get back to it.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: So let me just really quickly scan.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: Uh Kansas State ranked 22nd when they beat them.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: Kansas was ranked in the top 20 when they beat them.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: Oklahoma was ranked when they beat them.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: They're not anymore.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: Uh, and Oklahoma State.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: So that's what did I just rattle off?
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: Four really easy top 25 wins right there.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: So maybe only Tennessee has more than that.
- 12:45SPEAKER_03: And that was when the Kansas game was when Jalen Daniels went down.
- 12:48SPEAKER_03: You could argue almost that TCU probably should could could have lost that game, but because but Jason Beam carved him up as well, but whatever.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: Uh TCU.
- 12:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he came in and played really well.
- 12:57SPEAKER_03: Hornfrogs gig em?
- 12:58SPEAKER_03: Agem?
- 12:58SPEAKER_03: Stick him?
- 12:59SPEAKER_03: Gig em.
- 13:00SPEAKER_03: Gig em.
- 13:00SPEAKER_03: Gigum.
- 13:01SPEAKER_03: Here we go.
- 13:02SPEAKER_03: I can't remember that because I think we're thinking we're gonna be talking about that for a while, next month of our lives.
- 13:05SPEAKER_03: So gig em.
- 13:05SPEAKER_03: All right, good stuff.
- 13:06SPEAKER_03: Uh Alabama uh bounces back from there.
- 13:09SPEAKER_03: Uh tough loss uh at first Tennessee.
- 13:12SPEAKER_03: Um uh 30 to 6.
- 13:14SPEAKER_03: Uh the Mike Leach has done pitiful against the air raid offense for what it does, the short passes, the the the the short pass to run, it does not work into Alabama.
- 13:26SPEAKER_03: Mike Leach just got his breaks beaten off again.
- 13:30SPEAKER_03: 30 to 6.
- 13:31SPEAKER_03: Uh would have should have been 30 to nothing.
- 13:32SPEAKER_03: Mississippi got a late score.
- 13:34SPEAKER_03: Um Alabama neck crack, get back, get right game.
- 13:38SPEAKER_03: Uh Alabama's still Bama.
- 13:39SPEAKER_03: Anything you want to say about that?
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: Um Mississippi State had actually been running the ball pretty well prior to this game, and Bama's front seven is really good.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: And they couldn't they couldn't run the ball.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: And that dink and dunk stuff was just not gonna work against Bama.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: The way Tennessee beat them, you know, they stretched the field, they were able to run the ball in order to stretch the field, and uh Mike Leach, whether it's scheme or whatever, just refuses to do that.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: You know, maybe it's just not in their DNA.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: Uh, and so it was really easy for for Bama to just lock down and and play solid defense, which is what they're you know, what they've been known for.
- 14:58SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm surprised that kind of worked out that way.
- 15:00SPEAKER_03: Because I mean, because Will Rogers is a good quarterback, and I think he was leading the lead, leading the SEC in pass yards up until maybe a week or two ago.
- 15:06SPEAKER_03: Um you have to be Alabama with bombs.
- 15:09SPEAKER_03: You have to be able to throw the bombs, stretch the field a lot, which is what Tennessee put an absolute clinic on when they took him down.
- 15:15SPEAKER_03: And I'm hoping other teams can do, particularly my LSU Tigers.
- 15:18SPEAKER_03: You can't be able to dig and dunk and just never worked out.
- 15:21SPEAKER_03: I don't really know why Will Rogers, who's a good quarterback, he's a really good quarterback, Mississippi State, uh, couldn't do it.
- 15:27SPEAKER_03: But um too, I sorry for anybody who picked uh Alabama minus 28.
- 15:31SPEAKER_03: They did not cover, not cover backdoor cover for Mississippi State Bulldogs.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, congrats on that.
- 15:37SPEAKER_03: Congrats on that.
- 15:38SPEAKER_03: Something something, maybe moral victories.
- 15:40SPEAKER_03: Hope you made some money.
- 15:41SPEAKER_03: Uh this was a fun game.
- 15:43SPEAKER_03: Number 10, Oregon, uh takes down number nine, UCLA, 45 to 30.
- 15:48SPEAKER_03: Bo Nicks, 22 of 28, 283 yards passing, and five touchdowns.
- 15:56SPEAKER_03: Uh, this is the this version of a consistent playing high flying, high-powered offense, Oregon is not was not what I was expecting this year.
- 16:06SPEAKER_03: I don't I I've I've I have been spoiled.
- 16:09SPEAKER_03: The image of Bo Nicks has been ruining me this time as Auburn.
- 16:12SPEAKER_03: And it's I I've I can't I can't unlearn that, but he is balling.
- 16:15SPEAKER_03: He's balling.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he he balled out, obviously.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: It helped to that it's at home, and then it was at Outson.
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: Um, they were charged up, amped up.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: Um, it was an exciting game, but but Oregon kind of dominated from start to finish.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know, they won by 15, but it that I I think after the second quarter, that game wasn't close.
- 16:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, uh you UCLA got half their points in the fourth quarter, and they were already they were down, was that 31 to 10?
- 16:41SPEAKER_03: And then going into going into the fourth quarter, the score was what is that?
- 16:46SPEAKER_03: It's quick math.
- 16:46SPEAKER_03: That is 38 to 16.
- 16:48SPEAKER_03: So they were down by 22 points in the fourth quarter.
- 16:50SPEAKER_03: So um, no, I think uh Zach Charbonnet, 20 carries, 151 yards, uh touchdown.
- 16:56SPEAKER_03: He's a guy, but uh they couldn't keep up with uh what Oregon was gonna do that that day.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Oregon did it every which way.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: They just beat them flat out.
- 17:03SPEAKER_03: As a team that um alternates uniforms a lot, did you get a look at Oregon's pink uniforms and what are your thoughts?
- 17:09SPEAKER_03: I did them.
- 17:10SPEAKER_03: Can you tell me your thoughts on the pink uniforms?
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: I mean, I don't know that you can hate on them because they were for breast cancer awareness, I think, but not that not a not a good look.
- 17:20SPEAKER_03: They were ugly.
- 17:21SPEAKER_03: I love the cause.
- 17:22SPEAKER_03: Mike and I, both anybody listening.
- 17:24SPEAKER_03: Mike and I love the cause.
- 17:25SPEAKER_03: We love supporting that's really important, um, obviously, but those were hideous.
- 17:29SPEAKER_03: And I expect more out of Oregon.
- 17:30SPEAKER_03: I could even they could have done better.
- 17:32SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: Leave it at that.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, thanks for joining us for fashion time with Mike and Mike.
- 17:38SPEAKER_03: That's a new segment that we're starting.
- 17:40SPEAKER_03: Uh we're slowly rolling in.
- 17:42SPEAKER_03: Um, do you have any thoughts at this juncture on Oregon's path to the playoff, despite getting absolutely erased by Georgia week one, 50 to zero, or whatever the hell it was?
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: That is a good question.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: And I think that enough time will have passed if they take care of business on the field, and of course they'll need some help.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh, as any one-lost team would.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: I think, yeah, they have just as good of a shot as anybody because they still have uh some games left on the schedule, obviously, with um Utah, and they'll have to play USC probably.
- 18:16SPEAKER_03: They got you they get they go they got versus Utah versus UW, which Washington's a good still, and they've they've they've slid back a little bit, but they're not, they're still good.
- 18:25SPEAKER_03: Um, at Oregon State, and then of course in the Pac-12 championship.
- 18:28SPEAKER_03: Those are all must-win games.
- 18:29SPEAKER_03: I don't, you know, they look awesome.
- 18:31SPEAKER_03: They're gonna be small.
- 18:32SPEAKER_03: There's no two loss, there's no universe that a two-loss Oregon gets in.
- 18:36SPEAKER_03: So they're playing for their play.
- 18:38SPEAKER_03: I I mean, I actually I think I mean we don't know because there's so many other moving parts, but I'm I'm feel pretty good about saying if they go 12 and one and they win the big Pac-12, they're probably gonna get in.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: Um so they but ever for two reasons.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: Because Georgia is so well respected.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: Yep, they almost get a pass, and because it was week one.
- 18:57SPEAKER_03: Correct.
- 18:58SPEAKER_03: I know I totally agree with you, and it was in Atlanta, so like it was effectively a home game.
- 19:02SPEAKER_03: And it was week one, not only was it week one of the season, it was also first game Dan Lanning head coach, first game Bo Nicks quarterback.
- 19:09SPEAKER_03: Like, so like there's I mean, there's there's a lot of reason for voters to like look objectively at these teams and be like, the team that we saw in August 28th is not the team that we're putting in the playoff December.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: Those are real things.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: Those are real things.
- 19:22SPEAKER_00: These are not NFL teams, these are transfer college kids adjusting, coaches adjusting.
- 19:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 19:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 19:29SPEAKER_03: Hey, if anyone wants to talk about what what a you what the what a difference a year makes, it's LSU.
- 19:33SPEAKER_03: So I'm I'm totally on board with that logic.
- 19:35SPEAKER_03: And I like to think if they go 12 and 1, which will be no easy task, especially with Utah, Washington, and they're I they they don't the Pac-Troll doesn't have um uh divisions this year of the playoffs.
- 19:45SPEAKER_03: They're probably they're gonna get USC, which is gonna be it's gonna be good on good.
- 19:50SPEAKER_03: That's gonna be a fun game to watch.
- 19:51SPEAKER_03: That's gonna be offense.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: I think the game's in Vegas too.
- 19:54SPEAKER_03: Man, let's go, let's get flights to Vegas and let's go to the new Raiders Stadium.
- 19:57SPEAKER_03: Let's go to that game.
- 19:58SPEAKER_03: The score is gonna be like 70 to 70.
- 20:00SPEAKER_03: It's gonna be awesome.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that'll be that'll be a fun one.
- 20:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm well I'm just gonna I'm assuming Oregon USC is gonna be there, but if they go 12 and 1, they should they should be in.
- 20:08SPEAKER_03: Um let's uh talk a little bit more about last week.
- 20:12SPEAKER_03: Uh Oklahoma State, 41, Texas 20.
- 20:16SPEAKER_03: Uh, Texas had a you know, they were ahead, it was 31-24 and a half.
- 20:20SPEAKER_03: Uh they just Quinn Eures threw some interceptions, did look lost at times.
- 20:26SPEAKER_03: Uh kudos to Spencer Sanders and the senior leadership, and those guys in at Mike Gundy and Stillwater uh just continue to play solid ball.
- 20:36SPEAKER_03: They are not that they have the Jim Knowles defense of last year is gone, but they're they could still run the ball.
- 20:41SPEAKER_03: Um they could still they can still play offense, and they did.
- 20:44SPEAKER_03: Um B.
- 20:45SPEAKER_03: John Robinson almost bailed out Texas.
- 20:47SPEAKER_03: He had a big day, 24 carries, 140 yards, and a touchdown, but it wasn't enough.
- 20:51SPEAKER_03: Um, give me your Texas Oakie State takes.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: Um, the main take, yeah, is Oklahoma State's defense, but also just I guess Quinn Ewers looking human for the first time, and Steve Sarkesian definitely taking some heat over this one.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: Um, three picks is tough to overcome.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: Um, but they also, you know, they threw the ball like 50 times.
- 21:12SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:12SPEAKER_03: So he only connected on 19 of them, it was 40% completion percentage.
- 21:16SPEAKER_03: You know, that's that's that's not gonna that's not gonna woo the hearts of anybody, but um, he threw for through 320 yards.
- 21:22SPEAKER_03: I mean, he got he got he had the ball.
- 21:23SPEAKER_03: Xavier Worthy, which is the name you were plugging back in July when we first had the start potten's cotton.
- 21:28SPEAKER_03: He had a nice day, four catch, seven eight yards, and touchdown.
- 21:31SPEAKER_03: Um Texas definitely not back.
- 21:33SPEAKER_03: I feel really good about that.
- 21:34SPEAKER_03: Um, I'll be honest with you.
- 21:35SPEAKER_03: I part of me was like last two weeks, I was saying to myself, like, well, I'm just gonna start like casually sneaking in that I think Texas is good so that way I can say when they make a playoff.
- 21:43SPEAKER_03: They're still good.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: They are still good.
- 21:45SPEAKER_03: But my whole scheme was like a couple weeks to be like, oh, see, Mike, I told you I knew Texas was coming, but now I'm just gonna quietly dismiss that because that didn't really happen.
- 21:52SPEAKER_03: And uh that was a bad take, and but didn't count because I didn't actually say it.
- 21:55SPEAKER_03: So now you don't so now you can't make fun of me.
- 21:57SPEAKER_00: Well, I think this is one of those this one of those examples where it's tough for a team to be back kind of in one year, you know.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: Quinn Ewers starting this year.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: Um it's just tough to do it in one year.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: So, you know, you look at incremental progress and they're they're still gonna have a really good year.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: They're not back back, but they they've also had a lot of injuries that that you know, across the college football landscape, we don't talk about because you a guy gets injured and they go down and you forget about them, and you just see the wins and losses and you watch the games.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: Um, but they've had a a lot of injuries both at wide receiver and on the O line, and they're they've still got a ton ahead of them next year.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: This is a A growth year and a building year for them, I think.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: I still think there's a lot for them to be excited about.
- 22:46SPEAKER_03: It's all to be excited about, including another phenomenal five-star super quarterback, Archie Manning come behind.
- 22:51SPEAKER_03: Texas is still going to be a very interesting must-watch, must-follow type team, given the recruiting classes they're bringing in, given the transfers they're bringing in.
- 22:59SPEAKER_03: Um, but yeah, it's it's they're not there yet.
- 23:02SPEAKER_03: They're not a finished product.
- 23:03SPEAKER_03: Um, I just don't want to see the wheels.
- 23:05SPEAKER_03: Last year, the bottom fellow.
- 23:06SPEAKER_03: They lost like seven straight.
- 23:08SPEAKER_03: I just want to see Texas like can we get an eight and four year?
- 23:11SPEAKER_03: Can we get a nine and three year?
- 23:12SPEAKER_03: Can we get some things going the right direction?
- 23:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: I think that's this year for them.
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm thinking.
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's I that's what that's the vibe I'm getting.
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: So I guess we'll see.
- 23:21SPEAKER_03: We will see.
- 23:22SPEAKER_03: We will see.
- 23:22SPEAKER_03: Uh I this is an unranked game, but we're gonna talk about anyway because we have to.
- 23:26SPEAKER_03: South Carolina, five and two, South Carolina, all of a sudden look a whole lot pluckier in the east.
- 23:31SPEAKER_03: Uh, well done, uh Shane Baber Brighton.
- 23:33SPEAKER_03: And maybe maybe whatever.
- 23:35SPEAKER_03: Maybe benefit your schedule.
- 23:37SPEAKER_03: Uh, whatever.
- 23:37SPEAKER_03: Who cares?
- 23:38SPEAKER_03: Five and two.
- 23:38SPEAKER_03: If you told any South Carolina, I find five and two at this point.
- 23:40SPEAKER_03: I think they'd all be thrilled.
- 23:41SPEAKER_03: Uh Texas AM three and four, uh, one and three in the SEC.
- 23:47SPEAKER_03: Mike, I'm gonna read you their schedule.
- 23:48SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna read you Texas and AM's remaining schedule.
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: Give it to me.
- 23:51SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 23:52SPEAKER_03: At Ole Miss this week, three-point dogs.
- 23:54SPEAKER_03: Uh I'm sorry, at home.
- 23:55SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, they got home at Ole Miss, home versus Florida, at Auburn, uh UMass, that's a win, and then versus LSU.
- 24:03SPEAKER_03: Do they get to six?
- 24:07SPEAKER_03: We got UMass.
- 24:08SPEAKER_03: So the question is do they get two more?
- 24:09SPEAKER_03: They have to split, they have to split Ole Miss, Florida, Auburn, at Auburn, LSU.
- 24:14SPEAKER_03: Three of those games are home.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I would say Florida and Auburn are both winnable for them.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: Obviously, they've got more talent.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: Uh, it's really gonna be how that locker room responds.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: You know, they've had some off-the-field issues already.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of divisiveness in the locker room.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, three of that huge freshman class suspended after the loss of South Carolina for some locker room incidents.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: Um, so we'll see.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: I mean, that could go either way, you know, if if if they've got some upperclassmen that can write the ship, but um yeah, Jimbo's got a lot of work to do.
- 24:50SPEAKER_03: So, those of you who don't aren't really paying attention super close to Texas AM, Texas AM has been this just this bizarre football scenario that's happened.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: One, they um they hired Jimbo Fisher, like it was a 10-year extension worth north of 100 million.
- 25:03SPEAKER_03: It's like his buyout's like 87 million, which is an insane number for college football.
- 25:07SPEAKER_03: So, one, they hired Jimbo Fisher, the for the former Florida State National Championship coach at an insane price point with a massive, very, very coach-friendly contract.
- 25:16SPEAKER_03: That's uh number one.
- 25:17SPEAKER_03: Number two, this past year, or past year and a half, was the NIL uh name and image likeness.
- 25:22SPEAKER_03: Essentially, players can make money off their name and likeness, which has changed recruiting and transferring forever.
- 25:27SPEAKER_03: They essentially effectively bought the best recruiting class ever.
- 25:33SPEAKER_03: Something like Allegedly.
- 25:34SPEAKER_03: Allegedly, allegedly, thank you, good, thank you, Mike.
- 25:36SPEAKER_03: Uh, no one get in trouble.
- 25:38SPEAKER_03: Eight five stars, which is unheard of for even Alabama, Georgia, even I think Florida in 2010 didn't have uh eight five stars.
- 25:46SPEAKER_03: So just unbelievable of recruiting class of phenomenal freshmen, and they are under 500 going into November, about to be going into November.
- 25:56SPEAKER_03: Um, this is just not they were they were preseason topics.
- 25:59SPEAKER_03: And came into the preseason top six.
- 26:02SPEAKER_03: Desmond Howard picked them to be national championship runner-ups.
- 26:05SPEAKER_03: Um, talking that they had all kinds of they had all kinds of things going for them, and here they are.
- 26:10SPEAKER_03: My how the mighty have fallen.
- 26:12SPEAKER_03: They're gonna set the record, I think, for most the greatest college football.
- 26:16SPEAKER_03: Let's say they go four and eight.
- 26:18SPEAKER_03: Has any team ever failed to live to ex live to the expectations like this Texas AM team?
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: No, and the problem is the problem is there's the way that the media and social media and and everything works today, there's no coming back from it.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: Because once you start getting piled on, and it's the transport transfer portal age, and these kids they don't want to be there.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: They're not gonna want to be there.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: There's not they didn't have the buy-in clearly from the start of the year, and and things have clearly gotten much worse.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: Um there's no reason for them to want to stick through that kind of scrutiny when they can go somewhere else and just leave it all behind.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: That's the age we're living in.
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: And except for their money, they'll doesn't know how to answer it.
- 27:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, I it seem it seems like uh he tried to do a team of mercenaries, um, essentially, and then just you know, just for high guns for hire, and just it's not gonna work out in a big that's what it seems like and it flop in a big way.
- 27:22SPEAKER_03: Um, follow-up question is he could be fired at this end of this year.
- 27:26SPEAKER_03: Are they is some is some oil booster gonna cough up 80, 90 million dollars to get rid of him and then cut another check to go get God, I don't know, uh Lane Kiffin?
- 27:36SPEAKER_03: Like who I don't know who's out there.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: I I would think that they have too much invested in him for for them to just fire him.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: And if you do fire him, any chance of keeping the roster, which is a super talented roster that you have right now, if there's a chance that you can keep and hold on to a lot of those kids, that's gone.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: They're if if they weren't jumping chip before, they're definitely doing it now.
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: So if you can keep him and maybe shuffle some things around, what they really need is an offensive coordinator that's a splash exciting hire.
- 28:09SPEAKER_00: Um, but that's on Jimbo.
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: He's got to make that call.
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: I think they put enough pressure on him to where he does.
- 28:15SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Jimbo Jimbo's uh is is off the offensive coordinator, that's where he comes from.
- 28:19SPEAKER_03: He's actually the LSU's national championship offensive coordinator in 2007.
- 28:22SPEAKER_03: Um he's he's one of the one of his things is his offense is just very archaic and he really has had a hard time.
- 28:29SPEAKER_03: What what what really good coaches do, and there's very few coaches who still call plays anymore, what really good coaches do is they manage, they lead these organizations, they lead these programs, and they let their they let their talented specialists do that.
- 28:41SPEAKER_03: Jimbo Fisher is not one of those guys, and he likes to he loves to call his own plays.
- 28:44SPEAKER_03: The problem is he is not playing college football in 2004 anymore, and the the offense and defensive schemes have all evolved tremendously, and his play calling is not.
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: Um, so it's and even when asked about it, he says, There's nothing wrong with the scheme.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: The scheme is working.
- 28:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:00SPEAKER_03: He said that like after this last loss.
- 29:02SPEAKER_03: You gotta have some awareness, Jimbo.
- 29:03SPEAKER_03: You gotta have some awareness.
- 29:05SPEAKER_03: The other thing, you you mentioned the recruiting class falling apart.
- 29:07SPEAKER_03: The other thing that's gonna fall apart is the Texas AM's ability to go get a good coach.
- 29:11SPEAKER_03: The best thing LSU did in 2000 and last year was just pay Ed Orgeron the$17 million and let him go and go give it a walk out as high as seem as possible.
- 29:21SPEAKER_03: Imagine if the boosters come after him and start leaking things about him and start dragging him through the mud to try and make him leave.
- 29:27SPEAKER_03: Texas AM will never get anybody better than a glorified Texas high school coach ever again if they do that.
- 29:32SPEAKER_03: So they're really upper creek for not only their ability to retain on-field talent, but their ability to uh retain and recruit off-field talent coaches.
- 29:41SPEAKER_03: They need they still need they they're really in upper creek, and I I don't I don't know how it's gonna go.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: I expect the Yeah, and and to even taking that to the next step, if if if you're a talented offensive coordinator and what you know, how are you gonna jump onto this sinking ship?
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: No.
- 29:59SPEAKER_03: No, unless you, you know, unless you're they're in a tough spot.
- 30:01SPEAKER_03: Unless you're one of those guys who's like your wide receiver coach somewhere and you just say, you know, I want I want a shot somewhere, and maybe I canbe I can make magic happen, you know, I got nothing to lose.
- 30:08SPEAKER_03: But yeah, I don't know.
- 30:09SPEAKER_03: Um that's enough about Texas.
- 30:10SPEAKER_03: That's that's enough about a three and four Texas AM team and a probably overrated five and two South Carolina team.
- 30:15SPEAKER_03: Although kudos to South Carolina, five and two so far.
- 30:18SPEAKER_03: Um probably Cumpson's toughest game the rest of the way, if we're being honest.
- 30:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah, which is nuts to think about.
- 30:26SPEAKER_03: But I think it's what we're I think that's where we're at.
- 30:29SPEAKER_03: Uh cool.
- 30:30SPEAKER_03: Uh what else we'll talk about?
- 30:31SPEAKER_03: Uh super quick.
- 30:32SPEAKER_03: Uh UVA came off the bye, knocked off George Tech.
- 30:35SPEAKER_03: Well done.
- 30:35SPEAKER_03: Um, good stuff.
- 30:37SPEAKER_03: It's it was not always pretty.
- 30:39SPEAKER_03: Uh that kicker missed about seven kicks, but they got the win.
- 30:42SPEAKER_03: A win's a win.
- 30:43SPEAKER_03: The drive for six is alive for Virginia.
- 30:45SPEAKER_03: It's gonna start uh that was a good win.
- 30:48SPEAKER_03: It was on the road uh in the literal Hornets Nest of the Yellow, or the Yellow Jacket's nest protect, right?
- 30:54SPEAKER_03: That we called it the yellow jacket.
- 30:55SPEAKER_03: Bobby Dobbins.
- 30:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: We're calling it the hive.
- 30:57SPEAKER_00: Calling it the hive.
- 31:00SPEAKER_03: Um I'm good with that.
- 31:03SPEAKER_03: Uh, I'm good with that.
- 31:04SPEAKER_03: Um they're playing Miami this week, right?
- 31:06SPEAKER_03: We'll talk about that in a minute.
- 31:07SPEAKER_03: I'm actually gonna go that game.
- 31:08SPEAKER_03: Um, last game.
- 31:08SPEAKER_03: Oh, do you want to you talk about you go talk talk about Tennessee UT Martin super quick?
- 31:13SPEAKER_00: Uh we had our starters out in the second quarter.
- 31:16SPEAKER_00: Uh it was 50 something to seven, I believe.
- 31:21SPEAKER_00: Uh that's you know, that's great.
- 31:23SPEAKER_00: That's great.
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: No big guys, yeah, got a lot of guys playing time.
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: Nice.
- 31:28SPEAKER_00: That's about it.
- 31:29SPEAKER_00: Very nice.
- 31:30SPEAKER_03: Not much to say there.
- 31:31SPEAKER_03: Not much to say there.
- 31:32SPEAKER_03: Those are the nice weeks.
- 31:33SPEAKER_03: You just like, you know, we can't, we can't nobody got hurt.
- 31:36SPEAKER_03: We got we came for we got what we came for.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: Uh uh for me on the other hand, LSU was um was a was a underdog, was a favorite Vegas with the line all in our favor, and LSU uh went down 17 to 3.
- 31:49SPEAKER_03: Um, and then they the rest of the game outscored Ole Miss 42 to 3.
- 31:54SPEAKER_03: Jaden Daniels continues to develop and get better.
- 31:57SPEAKER_03: I've been telling you this all week, with the exception of that Tennessee game, which was a big step back, just bad LSU game.
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: Every other game, even the loss to Florida State, that could have had something to do with Tennessee's ability to just be awesome.
- 32:09SPEAKER_03: It did, but I mean, I don't I mean your Tennessee being awesome didn't didn't spot you 10 points on special teams.
- 32:14SPEAKER_03: But yes, we're even without that, you were gonna beat us by 15 points, at least, anyway.
- 32:18SPEAKER_03: Um with the exception Tennessee game, we've gotten better in game every single week.
- 32:24SPEAKER_03: And is this continuous, which is so exciting for LSU week one.
- 32:28SPEAKER_03: The fact of the matter is, is LSU going into a bye next week?
- 32:31SPEAKER_03: Is we're playing for the West, we're hosting Alabama um on November 5th.
- 32:36SPEAKER_03: The champion is the winner of that game, is effectively gonna go to um the winner of the SEC West and go to Atlanta.
- 32:42SPEAKER_03: And honestly, Brian Kelly, year one, 39 LSU scholarship players nine months ago.
- 32:48SPEAKER_03: You couldn't ask for anything better.
- 32:49SPEAKER_03: Frankly, you couldn't ask for anything better.
- 32:51SPEAKER_00: Um it's really a dream scenario for LSU.
- 32:55SPEAKER_00: And um, yeah, I think I think Jaden Daniels is playing great.
- 33:01SPEAKER_00: He's playing faster, he's playing loose, he's letting his wide receivers make some plays.
- 33:06SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 33:06SPEAKER_00: Um, there's talent on the D line that's continuing to show up, and you've got young guys stepping up, and it's everything you want to see.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: It's what we want to see.
- 33:15SPEAKER_03: I really, I really like.
- 33:16SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna quickly plug our we have four true freshmen that have become four absolute fastests in the LSU.
- 33:21SPEAKER_03: Are both of our offensive tackles the true fashion?
- 33:24SPEAKER_03: I can't tell you the last time a power five team of SEC's LSU's caliber has ever started two true fashmen on the offensive line of the tackle spot.
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: That's really exciting.
- 33:33SPEAKER_03: And they're both playing really well.
- 33:34SPEAKER_03: Mason Taylor, the son of Jason Taylor, the former Miami Dolphin pass rushing, he's a freshman tight end that's played really well.
- 33:40SPEAKER_03: And Harold Perkins, number 40.
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: Lane Kiffin even called him out.
- 33:44SPEAKER_03: You know, at the press conference, uh Lane Kiffin said, uh, was asked, you know, because they at halftime it was what was the score?
- 33:51SPEAKER_03: The score was 17 to 20, olmus, and then uh the score in the second half was much, much uglier.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: And he's like, what happened in the second half?
- 33:58SPEAKER_03: And he said, Well, LSU started playing number 40 a whole lot more, and that's number 40.
- 34:02SPEAKER_03: This number 40 player, Harold Perkins, five-star number one inside linebacker prospect, has turned into the turned into this Micah Parsons type linebacker for LSU that you have to watch all the time.
- 34:13SPEAKER_03: He had like six hurries, he was all over the field.
- 34:16SPEAKER_03: Um, and I can't I'm just gonna keep saying it.
- 34:20SPEAKER_03: Can't remember the last time a true freshman at the linebacker spot particularly, uh, who usually takes another year of just you know SEC nutrition, weight building put on away, has been able to play that much.
- 34:30SPEAKER_03: So, you know, very exciting for LSU, very excited to be moving forward.
- 34:34SPEAKER_03: All miss is maybe overrated.
- 34:36SPEAKER_03: Do you have any thoughts on uh Kifin?
- 34:38SPEAKER_03: And what go ahead?
- 34:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I do think they came into the game overrated.
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: It was a good spot for for LSU to get a big win.
- 34:46SPEAKER_00: Um, I don't know if it was field storming variety, if that did happen.
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 34:51SPEAKER_00: I saw that too.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: I don't know what that was all about.
- 34:53SPEAKER_00: We don't do that very often.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, probably not the best time for that, but go have fun, I guess.
- 34:58SPEAKER_03: Um Brian Kelly's first top 10 win, I guess.
- 35:01SPEAKER_03: Well, go nuts.
- 35:02SPEAKER_03: What do I know?
- 35:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, uh Ole Miss had not been tested at all.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: They were, you know, they were one of those teams that had been winning, but we didn't know what they were.
- 35:12SPEAKER_00: And we're gonna find out what they are.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: They still may only win seven, eight games.
- 35:17SPEAKER_00: Um, because they've still got their entire meat of the schedule coming up.
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: So we'll see.
- 35:23SPEAKER_00: Um, this may be.
- 35:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's still a great win.
- 35:26SPEAKER_00: I'm not I'm not downplaying the win.
- 35:27SPEAKER_00: Fantastic win.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: Uh, but definitely Ole Miss.
- 35:30SPEAKER_03: Probably not a top 10 team.
- 35:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah, no, a little bit of full school.
- 35:36SPEAKER_03: I think I think that's probably I think it's fair.
- 35:38SPEAKER_03: Uh, Virginia Tech was on a buy.
- 35:40SPEAKER_03: Uh, anything else that we talked about, talked about AM, looking at my notes, over my takes.
- 35:44SPEAKER_03: Anything else that we want to talk about uh this past week?
- 35:48SPEAKER_03: Um oh uh we we kind of glossed over real quick, but I think we should probably talk about it.
- 35:52SPEAKER_03: Um is is DJU gonna start the rest of the way for Clemson.
- 35:58SPEAKER_03: You know, after the game, Dabbo he he got pulled in the second half and then they came back second half.
- 36:02SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry, I meant to bring this up half an hour ago.
- 36:05SPEAKER_03: Is DJU is he transferring out?
- 36:07SPEAKER_03: Is this Cade's team?
- 36:09SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 36:10SPEAKER_00: I don't I don't think so.
- 36:11SPEAKER_00: I think that you know the the the head coach response when asked is gonna be something like we needed a spark.
- 36:18SPEAKER_00: Um we'll continue to evaluate you know it's always a competition, coach speak type stuff.
- 36:25SPEAKER_00: Um it's probably just gonna be how he responds.
- 36:29SPEAKER_00: They're clearly uncomfortable turning the reins over to him completely.
- 36:33SPEAKER_00: Um, but they're gonna have opportunities to play them both and let somebody emerge on the field is my gut.
- 36:40SPEAKER_03: I think that's all well and good, and you can do that for the next month or so.
- 36:43SPEAKER_03: But you don't they don't have a chance if they don't have one of those guys as the confident guy going into probably with you there, you know, probably the AC championship and maybe even the South Carolina game.
- 36:53SPEAKER_03: South Carolina keeps stringing together these wins and definitely the playoff.
- 36:57SPEAKER_03: You know, this this uh teeter totter back and forth situation will not fly when they're playing Michigan or Tennessee or whoever.
- 37:04SPEAKER_03: Um the caliber of ball is just so much higher.
- 37:08SPEAKER_03: And um, so I'm interested.
- 37:10SPEAKER_03: I'll be I'm really interested in the DJU consider we were talking about him for Heisman like two months ago, and those days are those days are no.
- 37:18SPEAKER_00: I was not talking about him for Heisman ever.
- 37:20SPEAKER_00: Actually, one of my preseason predictions was that he would get pulled for Klubnik.
- 37:25SPEAKER_03: So you might be right.
- 37:26SPEAKER_03: I knew it was I, but I was talking about Tyler Van Dyke winning the Heisman, and um that's also not gonna work out, but yeah, okay.
- 37:33SPEAKER_00: Um maybe there's still time.
- 37:36SPEAKER_03: Uh I have one more thing I want to talk about um last week.
- 37:39SPEAKER_03: Uh in there was uh Weber State, Montana State uh FCS game this past week.
- 37:46SPEAKER_03: There were a record four safeties, um, which is something I've never seen.
- 37:51SPEAKER_03: The craziest thing, all four safeties unforced.
- 37:55SPEAKER_03: They were all long snapper throwing the ball over the punter's head.
- 37:59SPEAKER_03: It happened four times.
- 38:01SPEAKER_03: Google this if you get a chance.
- 38:02SPEAKER_03: Weaver State, Montana State, four safeties.
- 38:06SPEAKER_03: I've never seen in college football anything like it.
- 38:09SPEAKER_03: Uh that's just that poor kid, that long snapper.
- 38:12SPEAKER_03: And they weren't even close, they were like air balls, like just moonshots.
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: Like, and he had this the punter to scramble 15 yards back to go get him.
- 38:20SPEAKER_03: Uh yes, that's tough.
- 38:22SPEAKER_03: That is tough.
- 38:23SPEAKER_00: Uh next week will be better, big guy.
- 38:25SPEAKER_03: Next it can't possibly be worse.
- 38:27SPEAKER_03: Uh, very cool.
- 38:28SPEAKER_03: Any other thoughts before we jump into next week?
- 38:31SPEAKER_00: No, let's keep it rolling.
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: Uh let's let's let's do it.
- 38:35SPEAKER_00: Hurry it up and um dive in.
- 38:37SPEAKER_03: Let's do a little chronologically first.
- 38:38SPEAKER_03: We'll start with uh Virginia Tech hookies who want to buy.
- 38:40SPEAKER_03: Uh they two and five, one and three.
- 38:43SPEAKER_03: They are playing um at NC State, Carter Finlay Stadium on Thursday night, 7:30 ESPN.
- 38:48SPEAKER_03: Uh NC State is a 13 and a half point favorite, under under 39, so really low scoring.
- 38:54SPEAKER_03: Vegas does not think tech is gonna score much.
- 38:56SPEAKER_03: Um, what do you got?
- 38:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think Devin O'Leary is out for this game.
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: Uh, I don't think it'll matter a whole lot.
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: We were talking about it before recording.
- 39:06SPEAKER_00: The total's only 39 and a half, so expecting a lot of defense.
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: Um, NC State has a really, really salty defense.
- 39:14SPEAKER_00: That's how they're gonna win it.
- 39:15SPEAKER_00: Grant Wells over under.
- 39:17SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna put him at two plus interceptions for this game.
- 39:21SPEAKER_00: He'll probably have to lean on the ground game.
- 39:23SPEAKER_00: And NC State probably wins pretty easily.
- 39:26SPEAKER_00: Uh I would guess they cover as much.
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 39:29SPEAKER_03: I mean, NC State's really, really stout.
- 39:31SPEAKER_03: Their front seven, you know, and we all talk, we always talk about like what does what does this team do really, really well?
- 39:35SPEAKER_03: And Devin O'Leary and NC State, they had high hopes to take on the ACC this year, and obviously they've already lost two games or one and two in the ACC, and those those that dream is probably dead, but they're still really good at the front seven, um, which is where tech is trying to grow, which is where Brent Pry and those guys are trying to move their offense.
- 39:52SPEAKER_03: So I I hate to say because I just think this is gonna be another really, really tough week for tech.
- 39:56SPEAKER_03: Um, I I they probably lose and they probably they and NC State probably covers because I just have a hard time seeing Grant Wells and those guys moving the ball super well.
- 40:05SPEAKER_03: So, but we shall see.
- 40:08SPEAKER_03: Um, let's move to the next one.
- 40:09SPEAKER_03: Uh, number two, Ohio State.
- 40:11SPEAKER_03: Um, at Beaver Stadium, uh, number 13, Penn State 6-1.
- 40:15SPEAKER_03: This this is a 62-point over under Ohio State uh minus 15 and a half.
- 40:20SPEAKER_03: It is uh Fox big noon Saturday.
- 40:23SPEAKER_03: Um uh I'll start.
- 40:26SPEAKER_03: Um I I this Ohio State still hasn't been tested, which is very true.
- 40:30SPEAKER_03: And so maybe this is, but the but after all what after how I saw Michigan rip them limb from limb, and the fact that James Franklin's 0 and 10 against top 10 opponents, I don't see this being any different.
- 40:43SPEAKER_00: No, I don't I Ohio State should win this game.
- 40:46SPEAKER_00: Um I think it'll be a little bit closer just because Penn State has gotten embarrassed.
- 40:51SPEAKER_00: They're they're in that kind of gut check time, and they're gonna do something very differently than what Michigan does on offense.
- 40:59SPEAKER_00: Ohio State's gonna try to spread the field first and foremost.
- 41:02SPEAKER_00: And Penn State does have a solid secondary.
- 41:06SPEAKER_00: Um, so maybe Ohio State gets out of their game plan and runs the ball a little bit just because that's what has been successful against Penn State.
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: Maybe the score is scoring is a little bit more limited.
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: Um, so I do like Penn State to keep this close, but definitely Ohio State to uh to win the game.
- 41:22SPEAKER_00: And and yeah, I think you see a little more out of Penn State.
- 41:25SPEAKER_00: It's not the embarrassing showing that they put up against Michigan.
- 41:29SPEAKER_00: Um, but yeah, Ohio State keeps rolling.
- 41:31SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 41:32SPEAKER_03: Uh the the next big game is Kentucky, Tennessee, but I'm gonna save that one because I know you I know you have thoughts on that.
- 41:37SPEAKER_03: Uh number nine, Oklahoma State, uh going to Manhattan, Kansas.
- 41:41SPEAKER_03: A little Apple, big apple, Manhattan, Kansas, uh 330 on Fox.
- 41:46SPEAKER_03: K-State's a one and a half point favorite over under 56 points.
- 41:49SPEAKER_03: Um, I cannot imagine.
- 41:51SPEAKER_03: K-State is mad about this game.
- 41:54SPEAKER_03: These are two good teams.
- 41:55SPEAKER_03: This is just Big 12 quality on quality.
- 41:57SPEAKER_03: I don't have a good read on this game because uh the the Big 12, Adrian Martinez and Spencer Sanders, um, two good coaches, two good quarterbacks, two good offenses.
- 42:06SPEAKER_03: Um, I don't know.
- 42:08SPEAKER_03: I mean, though my whole thing with the Big 12 this year, and I think TCU is eventually gonna fall into this trap, they're gonna all eat themselves.
- 42:13SPEAKER_03: And this is one of those games where I see two good teams, anybody could lose.
- 42:18SPEAKER_03: I don't have a strong thing.
- 42:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, I think this is a toss-up.
- 42:21SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take Oklahoma State just based on their defense, even though Adrian Martinez has been playing lights out.
- 42:27SPEAKER_00: Um, I kind of trust their roster, I trust what Gundy's done there, what what he's built there.
- 42:32SPEAKER_00: Um but again, it's a toss-up.
- 42:35SPEAKER_00: But at a at a small spread, even though it's it's in the little apple, I still like Oklahoma State.
- 42:41SPEAKER_00: I just I like what they've they're doing a little bit more, and uh, I think they do it with defense.
- 42:46SPEAKER_03: With the exception of TCU at the top and West Virginia at the bottom, the all the teams in the middle of the Big 12 are all like totally interchangeable to me.
- 42:54SPEAKER_03: I don't there's like the quality difference between K State, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Texas, TCU, TCU, uh uh Texas Tech, B Wat, Baylor, like they're all solid.
- 43:05SPEAKER_03: Like, I just, you know, like how does how is anybody how is TCU gonna go unscathed?
- 43:10SPEAKER_03: I beats me.
- 43:11SPEAKER_03: Uh help to say.
- 43:12SPEAKER_03: Uh let's talk about Florida, Georgia, because not because it's a great game, but because it's it's the cocktail party.
- 43:17SPEAKER_03: Uh unranked Florida 4-3 at 7-0 Georgia.
- 43:21SPEAKER_03: This game is in Jacksonville, Tia Bank Field, which is where the Jaguars play, I believe.
- 43:25SPEAKER_03: Um, this is a neutral site game.
- 43:27SPEAKER_03: They've been playing it there for the last uh 90 years.
- 43:31SPEAKER_03: Um, I don't really have much comment on the game.
- 43:33SPEAKER_03: Georgia's gonna win, they're gonna win handily because they're much better this year.
- 43:36SPEAKER_03: But I do want to know your thoughts on Kirby Smart's comments, the Georgia coach's thoughts on getting rid of this game.
- 43:42SPEAKER_03: As as two SEC East foes, I know you hate both these teams.
- 43:46SPEAKER_03: I'd love to hear your take.
- 43:48SPEAKER_00: Uh no, I think what he was saying is it should be a home and home.
- 43:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 43:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 43:53SPEAKER_00: I think neutral site games are generally speaking not what college football is all about.
- 43:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 43:59SPEAKER_00: Um, sometimes it's cool because it gives your fans a chance to have, you know, kind of an off-site special, like bull type atmosphere.
- 44:07SPEAKER_00: But for a game that is a year-to-year recurring game, yeah, that should be a home at home.
- 44:12SPEAKER_00: You're robbing those fans of you know that visiting atmosphere.
- 44:19SPEAKER_00: Um, so yeah, I I agree.
- 44:20SPEAKER_00: I don't know why.
- 44:21SPEAKER_00: I don't know why it started uh in Jacksonville.
- 44:23SPEAKER_00: I don't know how that got started.
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: Uh I don't, but it yeah, it doesn't make sense to me.
- 44:27SPEAKER_00: The coolest thing about college football is going to the different atmospheres and environments and experiencing the different traditions and the different campuses and both of those teams.
- 44:39SPEAKER_00: Have both of those things to offer.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's it's uh it's a no-brainer for me.
- 44:46SPEAKER_03: I I I I totally agree with you.
- 44:47SPEAKER_03: There's something to be said for neutral site games, like seeing two, you know, when you see when CBS is gonna do the big shot and you're gonna see half the stadium in blue and half in red.
- 44:55SPEAKER_03: Like there's like it's kind of cool to see that and have the and the tailgates all outside.
- 44:58SPEAKER_03: Like I get all that, but like, but given where we're going, given this 12-team playoff is coming, given God, the the obsession with so many neutral site openers, I we need we need to be back on campus as whenever possible, which is where college football is totally at its best.
- 45:14SPEAKER_03: I understand they've been doing this for a hundred years, so or 90 years, so I guess there's something to be said for that, but I'm with you.
- 45:20SPEAKER_03: If there's a game, they're trying to decide where to play it.
- 45:23SPEAKER_00: It doesn't change the game.
- 45:24SPEAKER_03: No, put it on someone's campus.
- 45:26SPEAKER_03: And it's not like it's not like it's not like Athens or Gainesville can't host awesome football games.
- 45:31SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm talking about?
- 45:31SPEAKER_03: We're not talking about states, we're not talking about ill-equipped campuses.
- 45:35SPEAKER_03: They have two awesome stadiums with awesome uh experience and culture and vibe.
- 45:40SPEAKER_03: So let's let's do that.
- 45:41SPEAKER_03: More of that.
- 45:42SPEAKER_00: So yeah, let's do that.
- 45:43SPEAKER_00: The only thing, the only exception that comes to my mind is the Red River shootout.
- 45:47SPEAKER_00: That just seems to be such a giant spectacle that keep that the way it is.
- 45:51SPEAKER_00: I mean, that goes along with like the state fair.
- 45:53SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's it's just it's a whole week-long thing.
- 45:58SPEAKER_03: I think there are I think there are a couple exceptions, I guess.
- 46:01SPEAKER_03: And obviously the Army Navy game is always played neutral site as well.
- 46:03SPEAKER_03: Like, I think there's like one or two, and they, you know, they they do the pageantry so big, but we'll talk about that in the month.
- 46:09SPEAKER_03: With a couple exceptions, I think you're right, but I don't think for Georgia's won.
- 46:12SPEAKER_03: I think Georgia wins by 38.
- 46:14SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 46:14SPEAKER_03: They're gonna cover minus 23.
- 46:16SPEAKER_03: I think Anthony Richardson's gonna be seeing red all day.
- 46:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'll be interested to see if Georgia can cover it.
- 46:22SPEAKER_00: It'll tell us a little bit about them, but we both know enough about these teams to know Georgia's much, much better.
- 46:28SPEAKER_00: I'm not worried about them losing.
- 46:30SPEAKER_00: I am worried about um, I think in games like this, what you're looking for is like, does anything get exposed?
- 46:36SPEAKER_00: You know, does Georgia figure something out on the outside?
- 46:40SPEAKER_00: You know, can they find some playmakers outside of their tight ends?
- 46:43SPEAKER_00: That kind of thing.
- 46:44SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 46:44SPEAKER_03: Uh this game I just want to talk about.
- 46:46SPEAKER_03: Uh number 15, Ole Miss uh at Kyle Field, Texas AM 3 and 4.
- 46:51SPEAKER_03: This game is 730 on the SEC network.
- 46:53SPEAKER_03: Um, over under 55 points, a lot of points for Texas AM.
- 46:57SPEAKER_03: The only reason I'm bringing this game up, why is Ole Miss only minus two?
- 47:00SPEAKER_03: I know LSU just beat them pretty handily, but they are a lot better than Texas AM in my mind.
- 47:07SPEAKER_03: Why is this why is this thread so why is the thread?
- 47:09SPEAKER_03: Why is this line so low?
- 47:12SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, why was the the LSU Ole Miss line so tight?
- 47:17SPEAKER_00: I mean I don't know.
- 47:20SPEAKER_00: I think I think Do you what do you think still believes in the talent that AM has on the roster?
- 47:26SPEAKER_00: And Ole Miss is still looked at as maybe a little bit of a pretender because they hadn't proven anything up until their first big test, and they got the door was blown off them.
- 47:36SPEAKER_00: So who are they, you know?
- 47:38SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 47:38SPEAKER_03: Um for me the thing is like I mean, actually think I think Texas AM's defense is like solid, they're pretty good.
- 47:43SPEAKER_03: And A chain is an awesome back.
- 47:45SPEAKER_03: I've I mean I'll just say, hey man, if you're looking for a job, come on down to LSU.
- 47:49SPEAKER_03: We'd love to have you.
- 47:49SPEAKER_03: You're he is a stud.
- 47:51SPEAKER_03: Um, I still think they're gonna score.
- 47:53SPEAKER_03: Um and I think I think Lane Kiffin is crafty enough, scheme enough.
- 47:56SPEAKER_03: Um, I think uh Judkins and Dart and Mingo, those guys are players, and they're gonna I think they're gonna score, I don't know, 31 points, and I think Tex uh Tex Am is gonna score 13.
- 48:07SPEAKER_00: So you know it's funny you say that because I think I saw I saw a stat and I'm probably I don't know if I can remember it verbatim, but I think it was like out of AM's last I don't know, let's say like 13 power five opponents, they've they've yet to exceed 25 points.
- 48:26SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 48:27SPEAKER_03: So and like in and you've got to they're olmus is gonna find ways to scheme around this game.
- 48:34SPEAKER_03: And if and and I just if AM's playing from behind with with whoever's under Haynes King, who's hurt.
- 48:39SPEAKER_03: Um, I don't even know who the quarterback they have no quarterback.
- 48:43SPEAKER_03: Um, I just I don't trust I know Kyle Fields.
- 48:46SPEAKER_03: You've been there.
- 48:47SPEAKER_03: I know Kyle Fields is an awesome environment.
- 48:49SPEAKER_03: I have no doubt.
- 48:50SPEAKER_03: I have no doubt they're gonna be jazzed up for those guys.
- 48:52SPEAKER_03: I just think Ole Miss is just a handful and Lane Kiffin's gonna be ready, and Jimbo Fisher is not, he's not gonna depth.
- 48:58SPEAKER_03: So I don't know.
- 48:59SPEAKER_03: I agree.
- 48:59SPEAKER_03: I like Ole Miss minus two.
- 49:00SPEAKER_03: I think it's a good spot to make some money.
- 49:02SPEAKER_03: Uh let's talk about other overrated Big Ten matchups that's supposed to be a lot better, but but doesn't this year?
- 49:08SPEAKER_03: Michigan State at uh uh number four in Michigan, Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, 730.
- 49:13SPEAKER_03: ABC, ABC picked this game up.
- 49:15SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 49:16SPEAKER_03: Um man, they really love Michigan, Ohio State.
- 49:18SPEAKER_03: Uh Michigan's minus 23.
- 49:20SPEAKER_03: This was that crazy.
- 49:21SPEAKER_03: This was Michigan's alone regular season loss that year on some really questionable fumble calls.
- 49:26SPEAKER_03: They probably that game was in East Lansing.
- 49:29SPEAKER_03: These teams hate each other.
- 49:31SPEAKER_03: This has Michigan by a hundred all over it.
- 49:36SPEAKER_03: Tell me I'm wrong.
- 49:37SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 49:38SPEAKER_00: No, no, I would love to tell you you're wrong, but I do sometimes I tend to agree with you in this case.
- 49:43SPEAKER_00: Um just because it is a rivalry and just because of what happened last year.
- 49:48SPEAKER_00: And Michigan State has just, for whatever reason this year, not been able to put it together.
- 49:52SPEAKER_00: Uh so yeah.
- 49:54SPEAKER_03: Yep, I think I think you're right.
- 49:56SPEAKER_03: Uh okay, I'm looking at this count.
- 49:58SPEAKER_03: There's the only other game I want to talk about, and you already know what it is.
- 50:00SPEAKER_03: Uh, number 19, Kentucky, uh at number three, Tennessee, number three, Tennessee, uh, Nayland Stadium, Knoxville, Tennessee, at seven o'clock on ESPN over under 62 and a half.
- 50:12SPEAKER_03: Tennessee is minus 12 and a half.
- 50:16SPEAKER_03: Um, is there any look ahead in this team looking ahead to Georgia next week?
- 50:22SPEAKER_00: No, um, I don't think so at all.
- 50:24SPEAKER_00: Just because Tennessee has been so bad for so long.
- 50:29SPEAKER_00: Um, they it's not in their DNA to feel like they're able to look ahead.
- 50:34SPEAKER_03: They don't have the entitlement yet.
- 50:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay.
- 50:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, they're and and that's one of the things with this coaching staff um that I really like is they just they keep them sharp, they keep them focused.
- 50:45SPEAKER_00: They haven't had a look ahead quarter.
- 50:47SPEAKER_00: I mean, they've had big games and um they've had subpar opponents beforehand, and they've come out for to fast starts every single time.
- 50:57SPEAKER_00: It's just what they do.
- 50:58SPEAKER_00: Their offense has not slowed down, no matter what you've put in front of them.
- 51:03SPEAKER_00: And I don't expect there to be any slowdown this weekend.
- 51:06SPEAKER_00: Um the interesting thing about this one is it's it's two complete style differences.
- 51:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh, Kentucky is one of the slowest teams in the country as far as uh plays run um per minute.
- 51:19SPEAKER_00: Uh Tennessee's obviously one of the fastest.
- 51:22SPEAKER_00: Kentucky's gonna want to run the ball, and um Tennessee is a little bit more balanced.
- 51:28SPEAKER_00: Um I think Kentucky runs the ball at like a 60-30 or 60-40 uh clip.
- 51:33SPEAKER_00: Um and so they're gonna try to eat some clock and run the ball, limit possessions.
- 51:37SPEAKER_00: Um, but I think you know, with with with the way that these two teams play, Tennessee jumps out and gets a couple score lead, um, forces Kentucky to abandon that game plan, uh, forces to forces the entire game on Will Levis's shoulders, and their offensive line, which is like the worst in the SEC, maybe the worst in the country, uh, is not going to be able to hold up.
- 52:03SPEAKER_00: And um, yeah, I think that this game is just one of those where it's just chunk play, chunk play, chunk play, and the style, the style just shifts dramatically, and Tennessee ends up uh winning by several scores.
- 52:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the only way I see this being close is if uh both Chris Rodriguez and Will Levis have monster days, um, which are both they're both capable.
- 52:23SPEAKER_03: Those guys are both super talented.
- 52:25SPEAKER_03: You were in on Chris Rodriguez early.
- 52:26SPEAKER_03: That was one of your one of the guys you talked about as being a good back, and he has a damn good back, but it's hard to run, it's hard to run against a wall when you're when you're not getting holes.
- 52:34SPEAKER_03: Will Levis is gonna is is one of these guys where has all these NFL measurables and he will probably have a nice NFL career, but he hasn't really looked like an NFL quarterback yet.
- 52:46SPEAKER_03: Um, my point, blah, blah, blah.
- 52:48SPEAKER_03: Chris Rodriguez is a super talented back, is capable of a big game.
- 52:50SPEAKER_03: Will Levis has the physical tools to put together a big game.
- 52:53SPEAKER_03: You're gonna need both of those guys in Nayland to have a monster day that I've not seen both of them have yet to keep it close.
- 53:01SPEAKER_03: I do think Kentucky's defense is pretty solid.
- 53:03SPEAKER_03: I think they'll probably get they'll probably get a hand.
- 53:06SPEAKER_03: I mean, they're they'll they're not gonna not gonna stop Tennessee's offense.
- 53:08SPEAKER_03: I don't think anybody in this country is gonna, I don't think anybody, maybe not even Georgia is gonna stop Tennessee's offense this year, but they'll get a handful of stops.
- 53:14SPEAKER_03: They'll probably do enough for them.
- 53:16SPEAKER_03: Uh for me in this in this game, the the the what I want to see is what uh Rodriguez and Lev and Levis can do against Tennessee defense.
- 53:24SPEAKER_03: I think that's really the only way this game is interesting.
- 53:26SPEAKER_03: Otherwise, Tennessee by 30.
- 53:28SPEAKER_03: If Will Levis and Rodriguez can can make some plays, can find some guys, can extend some drives, move the chains, keep that Tennessee offense off the field.
- 53:37SPEAKER_03: Maybe they keep it close, but this is not a game that I've I have any worry about Tennessee losing.
- 53:41SPEAKER_03: Maybe they cover it, but I think that's a good thing.
- 53:42SPEAKER_00: No, I just I don't think that they have the playmakers on the outside to to pick up the big yardage.
- 53:49SPEAKER_00: If if Rodriguez isn't, they're gonna have to feed him both on the ground and through the air.
- 53:54SPEAKER_00: They're gonna have to dump, dump, dump to him, and they're gonna have to give him the ball.
- 53:58SPEAKER_00: And the thing is, is Tennessee's defense, statistically speaking, yes, they haven't been very good, but they've been great against the run.
- 54:06SPEAKER_00: They've done it against everybody.
- 54:07SPEAKER_00: They did it against LSU, they did it against Bama.
- 54:10SPEAKER_00: Um, they can stop the run.
- 54:12SPEAKER_00: And so if Kentucky wants to line up and run the ball, I don't think they're gonna be able to do it like they want to.
- 54:17SPEAKER_03: No.
- 54:18SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think they're gonna I think they're gonna I think they're gonna have Levison the gun the whole time.
- 54:21SPEAKER_03: They're gonna have uh Chris Rigas staying next to him and they're gonna throw him a bunch of screens and quick outs and they're gonna they're they're gonna try and figure out quickly who's you know, try and get him matched up against your worst linebacker.
- 54:32SPEAKER_03: I don't know what they're gonna do I mean, I'm not sure what they're gonna do, but no, they're not gonna run some power eye at Tennessee.
- 54:38SPEAKER_03: Um, one, it's the offensive line, they couldn't do it anyway.
- 54:41SPEAKER_03: Um, but two, that's just not how you keep up with the with this modern version of 2022 Tennessee Volunteers anyway.
- 54:46SPEAKER_00: So um the other thing that I think is a little underrated when you're looking at this game, this is the first seven o'clock kickoff in Nayland this year.
- 54:56SPEAKER_03: There's been a lot of eyeballs that really want to watch Tennessee.
- 54:58SPEAKER_00: We've had one, yeah, go ahead.
- 55:01SPEAKER_00: We've had 330 against uh you know, hosting Florida, 330 hosting Bama, you know, uh noon against at LSU.
- 55:08SPEAKER_00: We were on the road against Pitt.
- 55:10SPEAKER_00: The other games at home have all been um you know cupcake opponents.
- 55:13SPEAKER_00: This is a big time time slot for fans and tailgators.
- 55:18SPEAKER_00: I mean, the environment is going to be nuts.
- 55:20SPEAKER_00: It's Halloween weekend, we're rocking the dark mode jerseys.
- 55:23SPEAKER_00: I think it's gonna be a really, really cool environment, and I don't think Kentucky's gonna be ready for that at all.
- 55:29SPEAKER_03: No, this is good, this is gonna be this is gonna be a big time enthusiasm.
- 55:32SPEAKER_03: I have I have no doubt in my mind that Nayland Knoxville will be electric.
- 55:36SPEAKER_03: And I, you know, I'm I'm I don't love the alt unis all the time, but the I do like these the the black ones.
- 55:41SPEAKER_03: When you get if you get a chance, Google Tennessee Alt uni for Kentucky, all black with the orange lettering.
- 55:47SPEAKER_03: It's gonna look sharp, it's gonna look fast, is what it's gonna look like.
- 55:50SPEAKER_03: It's gonna look really fast on TV.
- 55:52SPEAKER_03: Um are the stands doing, are they are they doing the checkerboard?
- 55:54SPEAKER_03: Are they doing an orange out?
- 55:55SPEAKER_03: Are they doing anything?
- 55:56SPEAKER_00: No, no, nothing crazy.
- 55:57SPEAKER_00: Um, we were supposed to get Cedric Tillman back as well, which is our number one wide receiver who's been out several weeks.
- 56:03SPEAKER_00: Um, and so adding one more weapon on offense.
- 56:06SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm excited.
- 56:07SPEAKER_00: I think this is gonna be a fun game.
- 56:09SPEAKER_00: It I'm not saying it's gonna be a blowout early, but I think um I think we by the end of the game, we we pull away pretty comfortably.
- 56:17SPEAKER_03: All right, all right.
- 56:19SPEAKER_03: Uh uh anything else in that game before we have one more game we have to talk about.
- 56:22SPEAKER_03: I almost forgot.
- 56:23SPEAKER_03: Anything else one you want to say about Kentucky, Tennessee?
- 56:25SPEAKER_03: Nope.
- 56:25SPEAKER_03: Nope.
- 56:26SPEAKER_03: Uh sounds good.
- 56:26SPEAKER_03: Last game, uh, Miami Hurricanes.
- 56:29SPEAKER_03: We don't want to talk about this one because one, it's Homer time, and two, I'm actually gonna be there.
- 56:32SPEAKER_03: Uh Miami Hurricanes.
- 56:33SPEAKER_03: Let's get some content.
- 56:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 56:34SPEAKER_03: Miami Hurricanes three and four, one and two.
- 56:37SPEAKER_03: Uh playing at Virginia, three and four, one and three.
- 56:40SPEAKER_03: This game is on ESPN three.
- 56:42SPEAKER_03: I don't know if you have that.
- 56:42SPEAKER_03: Do you have ESPN three anymore?
- 56:44SPEAKER_03: I don't think I do.
- 56:44SPEAKER_00: I think we've got everything.
- 56:46SPEAKER_03: It's on 1230.
- 56:48SPEAKER_03: Over-under is 48 points.
- 56:50SPEAKER_03: Uh, it's only Miami minus two.
- 56:52SPEAKER_03: Listen to my, I mean, we've all talked about how bad Miami's been.
- 56:55SPEAKER_03: Listen to this.
- 56:56SPEAKER_03: Uh, last five games, Texas AM lost 17-9.
- 57:00SPEAKER_03: Middle Tennessee State lost 45-31.
- 57:03SPEAKER_03: UNC lost 27-24.
- 57:06SPEAKER_03: At Virginia Tech win 2014.
- 57:08SPEAKER_03: Hokies is a good example to get right.
- 57:10SPEAKER_03: And then last week, ugh, ugly.
- 57:13SPEAKER_03: Duke lost 45-21.
- 57:16SPEAKER_03: Lost Miami.
- 57:17SPEAKER_03: There's there is not a world where Miami football has any business losing a Duke Blue Devils, no disrespect to Duke fans listening by 24 points.
- 57:24SPEAKER_02: Or Middle Tennessee.
- 57:25SPEAKER_03: Or Middle Tennessee is really at home.
- 57:27SPEAKER_03: They lost to Duke at home by 24 points.
- 57:29SPEAKER_03: This Miami team is hurting.
- 57:32SPEAKER_03: Um, and it you want to talk about, I mean, maybe it's some Texas AM stuff, maybe it's quite in the locker room type stuff, attitude, uh, problem.
- 57:39SPEAKER_03: I don't really know what it is, but they are they are spiraling.
- 57:43SPEAKER_03: And on the other side, while UVA has not been lights up by any means, they're coming off a buy and a win, and they're playing at home.
- 57:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 57:50SPEAKER_00: It's a good spot.
- 57:51SPEAKER_00: It's a good spot for them.
- 57:52SPEAKER_00: Um, although I will say, and we actually talked about this, I think, before Miami played Virginia Tech.
- 57:59SPEAKER_00: Miami plays better on the road this year.
- 58:01SPEAKER_00: Uh, and Tyler Van Dyke said as much.
- 58:03SPEAKER_00: So I don't know what to make of this Miami team exactly.
- 58:06SPEAKER_00: Um they've got it in them, uh, but I think Virginia catches them at a really, really good time where you know Virginia's riding high, they've got some momentum, um, they've got some confidence, and maybe some things are starting to click a little bit.
- 58:21SPEAKER_00: I saw a lot of fight and a lot of scrappiness in that Georgia Tech game.
- 58:25SPEAKER_00: They did.
- 58:25SPEAKER_00: I I did as well.
- 58:26SPEAKER_03: It was ugly.
- 58:27SPEAKER_03: I mean, you could tell in spots like the kicker that they weren't there, but it's, you know, Tony Ella, Tony didn't let them quit.
- 58:33SPEAKER_03: Um, so this is a chance.
- 58:34SPEAKER_03: And if they win this game, if they win this game, they are four and four with games against UNC Pitt, Coastal Carolina, and at Virginia Tech.
- 58:42SPEAKER_03: The drive for six is alive, but they have to win because they will not win three of their last four, but they might win two of the last two.
- 58:50SPEAKER_03: They might go two and two.
- 58:51SPEAKER_03: So um I could see.
- 58:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and Miami's in the same spot, and Mario Crystal Ball is feeling some heat.
- 58:57SPEAKER_00: Things are getting really hot, hot, hot down in the Mario Crystal Ball just came from Oregon.
- 59:01SPEAKER_03: He had a pretty good run in Oregon, and I don't know.
- 59:04SPEAKER_03: I, you know, and Miami's finished the year strong, and I I I this is year one for him there, so I guess we'll I'll cut him some slack, but you want to talk about, I mean, he's not Jimbo Fisher bad, at least not yet, but I, you know, it's is not look not good.
- 59:20SPEAKER_03: Um, and Coral Gables is uh there as well.
- 59:23SPEAKER_03: Um, yeah, you gotta do something about that.
- 59:26SPEAKER_03: Um, one thing I will say though, uh, back to this Miami uh Virginia Virginia game.
- 59:30SPEAKER_03: Uh both teams are not very good at defense.
- 59:34SPEAKER_03: Both these teams have playmakers on offense, including under center.
- 59:37SPEAKER_03: Brendan Armstrong, Tyler Van Dyke.
- 59:39SPEAKER_03: I was going to this game with my brother.
- 59:40SPEAKER_03: I was talking to him about it.
- 59:41SPEAKER_03: We might see a bunch of points.
- 59:42SPEAKER_03: Like maybe it's like a 38, 35 type game.
- 59:45SPEAKER_00: That would be a good idea.
- 59:46SPEAKER_00: See, it's interesting that you say that because I was just gonna say Miami has shown the capability to put up a lot of points, whereas UVA, even against Georgia Tech, kind of struggled on offense.
- 59:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I don't know what they're doing running Brendan Armstrong so much.
- 59:59SPEAKER_00: He was their leading rusher.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_00: I think you got to get away from that a little bit.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's done it at a pretty capable clip, but he's not your explosive runner.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_00: Hand the freaking ball off, man.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_03: No, and you're you're totally right.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_03: Their season high is 34 points against Richmond in week one.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_03: Um, offensively, they have certainly left a lot to desire, but I'm just gonna keep saying it because it's still true.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_03: They have not lost any of these playmakers on the outside um of this really of what was a pretty prolific offense.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_03: Their offensive line is a problem.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_03: I know that, and still is.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_03: It's full of transfers.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_03: A lot of them Ivy League guys, not necessarily ACC caliber offensive linemen, no respect to the Ivy League.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_03: Um, I get all that, but they're still there and they haven't forgotten how to catch the football and make plays.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_03: There was a moment in the in the there was one play, I think it was Keeton Thompson.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_03: I'm not sure I'm not sure who it was, but uh one of the receivers made a phenomenal 30-yard catch into a 60-yard touchdown catch after just shaking the shaking the shoes off of several Georgia Tech defenders.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_03: They have got you can see it.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_03: My point, you can see it in spurts.
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_03: You can see Virginia um out wide.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_03: Brent Armstrong has the arm, despite the goofy uh release and form, he can do it.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_03: So I'm gonna be in I'm gonna be in person.
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_00: What is your official pick for this game?
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_00: Oh, geez.
- 1:01:19SPEAKER_03: Um you're gonna be there.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_03: I know, I know.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_03: Um I'm gonna take UVA to win.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_03: I I'm gonna take UVA to UVA plus two, get the money line, get the get the Jews, get the get the money.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_03: I think I think they're gonna win.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_03: Um uh I want it's gonna be 56, it's gonna be sunny, and Miami as I'm here.
- 1:01:38SPEAKER_03: Here's what I'm banking on.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_03: I think UVA has gotten a little bit of momentum, not much, a little bit, off the buy and the win, off the bad Georgia Tech team.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_03: And Miami is reeling.
- 1:01:46SPEAKER_03: And I don't know that Miami is going to get their feet back under them uh away from away from Coral Gables.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_03: So I'm that's that's that's why I'm going on that.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_03: But these are two average to bad teams.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_03: Um, so it could go either way.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_03: Who what do you got?
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_00: I hate to say it.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_00: No, you don't.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_00: No, I do.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_00: I do.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_00: I I hate to say it.
- 1:02:09SPEAKER_00: No, I mean, as we've started covering these teams more extensively, Virginia Tech and uh and Virginia, I've I'm it's it's become homer time, you know.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah, totally.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_00: These are not my teams, but uh I've enjoyed covering them and looking uh deeper into them and and watching them more closely.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_00: And um, but I do think Miami wins this game.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_00: I think they've just they've shown that they're more explosive on offense, and I do think they play better on the road, and I don't think Scott Stadium is um necessarily the environment that trips them up.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_03: So uh Are you telling me that you mean the team that just went into the Bobby Dodd wasp Hornets Nest is not ready for?
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_00: Let's just say I think that the Scott Stadium patrons will be enjoying cocktails well into the second quarter before that stadium fills up.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you know, that's right.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_03: I'll be there.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_03: I'll be doing that.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_03: I mean, I was we were talking about I'm gonna get some UVA gear.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna wear a blue, I'm gonna wear a UVA shirt.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna get I'm gonna get a shirt.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_03: I'm not wearing a tie.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_03: I will not wear a tie.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_03: For everyone listening to this podcast, I will not wear a tie to a UVA football game so long as I live.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_03: But I will wear a BU, a beau, a blue UVA shirt.
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, I gotta go to the bookstore and find one.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_03: Uh, I want to catch it.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_03: Wahoo wa.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_03: I'm ready.
