- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Hello, welcome to Crafted Connections.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: I'm Kaila Calhoun, and this is a podcast all about storytelling and building genuine community.
- 0:13SPEAKER_00: Here we'll dive into the art of storytelling, unpack strategies for making meaningful connections, and hear from incredible humans who are using their story to create impact.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: So grab your favorite beverage, settle in, and let's craft some connections.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Hello, hello.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to Crafted Connections.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: This week I am introducing a thing I'm gonna call Little Cutties, which is it's been a busy week, and so we're just gonna jump on the mic raw and we're gonna talk about what's going on, right?
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: I will not be editing this at all, so let's see what happens, shall we?
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Uh calling them little cuties, a little bit inspired by uh one of our previous guests, Anna Zimmerman.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: She utilizes the word cute all the time, and it just popped in my head, and so I'm gonna a little nod to her on that.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Uh but the idea behind this is I've made a promise to myself to publish every Thursday, right?
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: And with that, you gotta keep promises to yourself.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: You set out to do something, keeping that promise to yourself matters because then you believe yourself, you trust yourself, and then that just kind of grows and grows and grows.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: So that is what I'm doing here.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: Uh, my my good friend uh Corey, who is a wonderful wellness coach, uh talks about this.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: She talks about keeping promises to ourselves builds trust.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: And so I'm trying to do that here.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: I would put in the caveat of don't overcommit and then be like, well, I gotta keep my promise to myself and then beat yourself up.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: That's not the journey that we're taking.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: Uh but yes, so I am a busy bumblebee this week.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: And so we're gonna do a little cutie.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: This is the first little cutie, and we'll do it every once in a while when I'm like, she tried, but it's gonna be a little cutie kind of week.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Uh I am coming to you from a hotel in Bloomington.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: The AC is on full blast, so my video production background is going insane right now with that.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: But hey, again, keeping the promise to myself.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: So, yes, in the middle of so many edits, um, particularly one larger project that's uh a proof of concept that is like deeply rooted in humanity and like legacy and the idea of like, you know, what do we do with ourselves uh after after death, right?
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: Um when I say ourselves, I mean remains.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: It's it's a whole wonderful piece.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: Um, this is what I'm talking about.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: This is the raw moment where she gets a little stumbly.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Uh, but yes, so the piece itself has been so uh it's a thick one.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: There are so many people involved in the story, there are so many um historical elements to the story um that I've just really been thick in that, and I still am not as far as I'd like to be, right?
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: And we're being nice to ourselves.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Uh the humanity aspect of it is very, very interesting, and that's really all I can tell you right now.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: I don't actually know how much I'm allowed to share about the project.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: Uh so I felt like that was quite vague, but I think uh I still needed to share what I've got going on.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: So that edit's happening.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: I'm doing some pre-interviews uh with potential subjects for some recruitment videos I'm doing for, you guessed it, the city of Bloomington.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: That's why I'm in Bloomington, Indiana.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Uh so that's been really fun.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: Uh if you don't know me well enough yet, I am a big fan of sitting across from other people and asking what they're interested in, asking what they're passionate about.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: And this has been really fun because I'm talking, literally doing these like quick 15 to 20 minute chats with people in the city of Bloomington about why they love to work where they work.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: And it is really cool to see people talk about why they love what they do.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: I say, Well, how do you feel about working for the city?
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: Because sometimes I would say, sometimes I'll say, you know, why do you love this in an interview?
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, do they love that?
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: So I always question the um the question, why do you love fill in the blank?
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: Right, especially when you're coming in in um in a in a marketing capacity.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Uh so I try really hard to make sure that the question is, you know, how do you feel about this place?
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Um, and then that way people can express from less of a yes, no, or a like assuming their answer already, right?
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: Uh so that's been really fun.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: Uh got a little bit of sweet green for dinner.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: I'm a big fan of of a sweet green salad.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: Uh, and you know, there is a bathtub in this hotel.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: So I might be taking a bath because if you know me by now, I live on a boat and we don't have a bathtub.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: So that should be really nice.
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, that felt good.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: That's a little cutie.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: Um, I don't think I said anything that's gonna break the bank or hurt anybody.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: So, yay, that that's another thing too.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: You can trust yourself to just jump on a mic and be okay.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, there's more where that came from.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: Uh, it'll be fun.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: I think sometimes they'll be really, really short.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: Sometimes they might be rambling long.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: And I hope you enjoy them.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: I know that the purpose of it is to keep a promise to myself.
- 5:30SPEAKER_00: So, you know, go out there.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: See uh what promises you're gonna keep to yourself.
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: Uh, and I hope that you have a great week.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: Thanks, friends.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Bye.
