- 0:01Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. You know, I don't know
- 0:06Speaker 1: often call an emergency session to the One Leg Up Network,
- 0:09Speaker 1: but this this is a sports emergency session. This is
- 0:14Speaker 1: a Yankee fandom emergency session. Because how the hell are
- 0:20Speaker 1: the Yanks gonna expect to win when they are rotating
- 0:24Speaker 1: leadoff hitters like it's going at it, like it's not
- 0:26Speaker 1: going out of style. I mean they literally put up
- 0:30Speaker 1: a different leadof hitter every day this weekend. Do you
- 0:32Speaker 1: know why the Yankees of the nineties were so successful.
- 0:37Speaker 1: They had a consistent leadoff hitter.
- 0:41Speaker 2: It was Derek Jeter.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Yes, and I'm wearing his gold jersey today because I
- 0:44Speaker 1: believe the Yanks have a golden standard and to live
- 0:48Speaker 1: up to that gold standard, especially against the Mets. But
- 0:52Speaker 1: they had a leadoff hitter every game every night for years,
- 0:57Speaker 1: a consistent one. Now analytics says, oh, start Goldsmith today,
- 1:03Speaker 1: beat Jason lead off the other night, bat Trent. I
- 1:07Speaker 1: do think Josson Domingez is the most valuable candidate for
- 1:12Speaker 1: a leadoff. There is no about the guy hit a
- 1:14Speaker 1: homer to lead off the gab bub Friday night. Of course,
- 1:18Speaker 1: Judge fall up with the back to back but it
- 1:21Speaker 1: starts at the top. There is no consistent hitter, which
- 1:27Speaker 1: is why the Yanks don't have one leg up right now.
- 1:31Speaker 1: I mean, coming off an awful sweep against Toronto. You
- 1:34Speaker 1: get energized with Jason on Friday Night with the leadoff Homer,
- 1:37Speaker 1: then the judge Homer back to back the rest of
- 1:41Speaker 1: all part. But you need that table setter if you will,
- 1:45Speaker 1: or home run hitter too. Jason can do both, Trent
- 1:50Speaker 1: can do both in a way Goldsmith can do both,
- 1:53Speaker 1: although I like Trent or jisong at the top more
- 1:57Speaker 1: than anybody else. My dad said this about Aaron Boone
- 2:01Speaker 1: back when the Yanks are struck against the Astros and
- 2:03Speaker 1: the Alcs, that he keep arranging the chair, rearranging the
- 2:08Speaker 1: chairs like the Titanic of a sinking ship. They're rearranging
- 2:12Speaker 1: the chairs in July, which does not bode well for October.
- 2:20Speaker 1: They literally are rearranging the chairs every night to try
- 2:23Speaker 1: and make something work that's not working. So I suggest
- 2:29Speaker 1: that they're gonna go with analytics. Analytics do one thing,
- 2:32Speaker 1: look at the status of who's been most consistent at
- 2:36Speaker 1: the leadoff spot and keep them there. Who is produced
- 2:40Speaker 1: in the leadoff spot and keep them there. Then you
- 2:43Speaker 1: can see some consistency. But the idea that a third
- 2:49Speaker 1: lineup today has a different leadoff hitter, it exemplifies everything
- 2:56Speaker 1: wrong right now. You could say the pitching also is inconsistent. However, however,
- 3:04Speaker 1: you want us set the tone, and you're gonna have
- 3:08Speaker 1: a different lead off hitter to try and set the tone.
- 3:12Speaker 1: That's not the answer. The answer to me is, in
- 3:20Speaker 1: my view, Josando Minge is a leadoff and this is
- 3:22Speaker 1: your daily reminder of that. And then you have Trent
- 3:27Speaker 1: batting second. I don't know if I agree with that
- 3:30Speaker 1: movie either today. But you want this team to come
- 3:35Speaker 1: in wanting to win, but it just looks like they're
- 3:40Speaker 1: throwing up a lineup together that that's not cohesive. Gold Smith, Grishram, Judge,
- 3:47Speaker 1: Stanton Bellinger, Volpi LeMay you now batting seventh, Austin eighth,
- 3:55Speaker 1: Parizza ninth. I mean it's not the best lineup and
- 4:04Speaker 1: something has to change. I don't know if it's an
- 4:12Speaker 1: analytics department change or if it's just going back to
- 4:17Speaker 1: baseball basics, and that baseball basics to me, is a
- 4:24Speaker 1: consistent leadoff here that will be the start of something
- 4:30Speaker 1: coming back yankster. What three games out of first place?
- 4:33Speaker 2: They were in seven games ahead of the Blue Jays and.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Rays nearly a month ago. And the only answer is, well,
- 4:44Speaker 1: we got some bumps in the road. Come on, Aaron
- 4:48Speaker 1: both Aaron's really you should be more frustrated, more vociferous,
- 4:54Speaker 1: more pissed off at what's going on. When a Judge
- 5:02Speaker 1: was left on the on deck circle the other night,
- 5:06Speaker 1: he did not look happy one bit. But then he
- 5:08Speaker 1: goes to the media and Judge doesn't really sound as
- 5:12Speaker 1: unhappy as he looks. But as the captain, he's got
- 5:16Speaker 1: a round of the troops in the clubhouse and the
- 5:22Speaker 1: manager Boone maybe he doesn't listen to analytics all the time.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Maybe he goes with his gut. Now has got mind
- 5:31Speaker 1: pulm to put in Nester to face Freddy Freeman. But
- 5:36Speaker 1: you know it's a different season now the Inks, where
- 5:41Speaker 1: y'all got to turn the page from last year's disastrous
- 5:43Speaker 1: World Series and let Aaron Boone go with his gut.
- 5:49Speaker 1: It's a travesty because this is a manager that led
- 5:52Speaker 1: the Inks to three years of one hundred plus wins
- 5:55Speaker 1: in a row. What the f happened? Where did they
- 6:02Speaker 1: handcuff him that he can't do his job to get
- 6:05Speaker 1: those one hundred wins again. And I think if the
- 6:11Speaker 1: Yanks are making moves to the deadline, there's gonna be
- 6:13Speaker 1: a lot of calls. If they don't win today, there's
- 6:15Speaker 1: gonna be a lot of calls for firing. Look, it
- 6:18Speaker 1: was George Summoner's birthday. He would have been ninety five
- 6:21Speaker 1: on Friday, which blows my mind. He's been gone fifteen
- 6:24Speaker 1: years as of next Sunday. But the obvious choice here
- 6:30Speaker 1: on this emergency session is to have a consistent leadoff
- 6:34Speaker 1: hitter and the rest will work out. That is how
- 6:37Speaker 1: And it just dawn on me today when I saw
- 6:39Speaker 1: another leadoff guy up there. How the Inks were able
- 6:42Speaker 1: to be so successful in the nineties They had consistency
- 6:48Speaker 1: in the leadoff spot to set the tone. And that
- 6:52Speaker 1: is the metaphor for this whole team. Right now. No
- 6:56Speaker 1: one is setting the tone. No one's being vocal, and
- 7:03Speaker 1: it's only showing in the play. It's showing in the
- 7:05Speaker 1: destruction in the structure of this team. So if the
- 7:10Speaker 1: Eggs want to set the tone again, have one leg
- 7:12Speaker 1: up in the Al East. It's got to start with
- 7:15Speaker 1: the lineup being consistently let off by the same guy
- 7:19Speaker 1: every night. And we know this team does not always
- 7:26Speaker 1: ride the hot hand. I remember last year, a couple
- 7:29Speaker 1: of years ago, Cabrera was on fire, then they rest
- 7:32Speaker 1: him the night after Judge is on fire, they rest him.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Volpi at times gets on fire, they rest him night
- 7:39Speaker 1: the next day. They need to ride the hot bat.
- 7:43Speaker 1: That will also help set the tone and not sit
- 7:47Speaker 1: the guys after a few days because analytics said so.
- 7:53Speaker 1: So if there's a lot of soul searching and they
- 7:55Speaker 1: wanted to put AI into this with the analytics, maybe
- 7:58Speaker 1: some analytical searching also, so should be happening right now.
- 8:06Speaker 1: And I'm not the number crunching guy, but at the
- 8:12Speaker 1: leadoff spot this year in twenty twenty five, Bellinger has
- 8:33Speaker 1: hit leadoff in one game this year, one for four.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Grisham who's been there consistently in thirty six games and
- 8:42Speaker 1: nunder forty one at bats twenty eight hits. That's an
- 8:46Speaker 1: average of two hundred. Austin Wells won twenty five. Ben
- 8:51Speaker 1: Reiser's lad off to twenty eight, but you know it's
- 8:54Speaker 1: been the hottest laidoff guy for the Yanks. It is
- 8:58Speaker 1: one game, it leadoff okay, with a five hundred Goldman's
- 9:03Speaker 1: two ninety eight.
- 9:06Speaker 2: The Minga is here's my point right here. Thanks to
- 9:11Speaker 2: stat news dot Com, Dominga is four fifty five average
- 9:17Speaker 2: in his three games at leadoff and eleven at bats.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Three for eleven, well actually five for eleven, three runs scored.
- 9:29Speaker 1: The Minga is a leadoff four fifty five. Analytics department,
- 9:34Speaker 1: get on that stat and let's make him the official
- 9:39Speaker 1: leadoff guy to set the tone. And I think if
- 9:44Speaker 1: you set the tone on the field, off the field,
- 9:46Speaker 1: things will become cohesive as well. Again, stats don't lie,
- 9:56Speaker 1: and I'm gonna drop this stat news dot com for
- 10:00Speaker 1: your information to find out so you can look it
- 10:04Speaker 1: for yourself. How the Yankees have fared in the leadoff
- 10:07Speaker 1: spot four fifty five mm hm hm, that's the guy
- 10:19Speaker 1: I want in the leadoff spot.
- 10:21Speaker 2: And don't you no
