- 0:00Speaker 1: AJ, you want to open up the show.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it's goot. Congratulations to you on your team.
- 0:10Speaker 2: That was a great game, by the way, not that
- 0:12Speaker 2: I was rooting for your team, but I will say this,
- 0:15Speaker 2: it was a great, great game. The fourth quarter of
- 0:17Speaker 2: that game. The first half was kind of black, but
- 0:19Speaker 2: the fourth quarter of that game was incredible. I can't
- 0:22Speaker 2: believe I stayed up the whole time. And guess what's
- 0:24Speaker 2: got now? Drew Pomerance has to wear that ugly green
- 0:26Speaker 2: and orange uniform one day.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Top either did you hear about that? Drew Pomerance made
- 0:32Speaker 1: a bet with us and oh right, I forgot. We
- 0:38Speaker 1: were together yesterday. AJ has Devin Hester Hurricanes jersey. But
- 0:43Speaker 1: it's one of those little belly shirt jerseys.
- 0:46Speaker 3: Oh so.
- 0:48Speaker 1: It already got rejected. We did try when we were
- 0:51Speaker 1: on the interview with Pomerance, and we're like, all right,
- 0:53Speaker 1: we're not.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Gonna wouldn't fit on much.
- 0:56Speaker 1: It wouldn't even fit a art.
- 0:57Speaker 2: He couldn't even get it over like his shoulders.
- 1:00Speaker 1: That's true. I just maybe we can get them ash
- 1:03Speaker 1: medium though, since it is a Miami Hurricanes jersey and
- 1:06Speaker 1: there are many frat bros wearing mediums. Down there.
- 1:12Speaker 4: I'll tell you what the Miami receiver was. His last
- 1:14Speaker 4: name Tony or something. I forget his last name, but
- 1:17Speaker 4: he was unbelievable last night.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Quarterback. We'll calm collected too, mister Carson back man, you'd.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Be cool comic collective if you were thirty two years
- 1:26Speaker 2: old and had seventeen million in the bank already.
- 1:28Speaker 1: Scott, it's not college football, AJ, I call it pro.
- 1:32Speaker 2: It's pro pro min it's minor league football.
- 1:37Speaker 1: People love minor league football little more than they love
- 1:39Speaker 1: minor league baseball. Or in a different way, we'll put
- 1:42Speaker 1: its exactly. I love minor league baseball, but yes I
- 1:47Speaker 1: am not following the championship of minor league baseball like
- 1:50Speaker 1: we do in college football. Anyway, there's a ton of
- 1:53Speaker 1: news today, very newsy news. So let's jump into a
- 1:58Speaker 1: topic that I'm excited to have you both for from
- 2:00Speaker 1: the jump here, charge about Todd Father and I started
- 2:06Speaker 1: talking about this yesterday, and we're going to dive into
- 2:08Speaker 1: it again. AJ. You missed the arbitration fund that we
- 2:12Speaker 1: had yesterday, but you didn't miss the headliner. After our show,
- 2:17Speaker 1: it comes out that Trek Scouble and the Tigers.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Have a little bit of separation.
- 2:22Speaker 1: I think you just texted me a little bit of
- 2:24Speaker 1: separation between the two. So the reporting for Schooble Tigers
- 2:31Speaker 1: nineteen million, Scooble thirty two million dollars. And here's how
- 2:38Speaker 1: arbitration works. If you actually go to a case, they
- 2:43Speaker 1: find the midpoint. And this is Mark Feinstand explaining it
- 2:47Speaker 1: very well MLB insider. He said, it's the biggest ever
- 2:50Speaker 1: spread in arbitration. Keep in mind the number will matter
- 2:53Speaker 1: in a hearing. It's not nineteen or thirty two until
- 2:58Speaker 1: the winner or loser is decided. It's twenty five point
- 3:01Speaker 1: five million. That's the midpoint. Each side has to prove
- 3:04Speaker 1: Schooble is worth one dollar above or one dollar below
- 3:08Speaker 1: that number. So aj if the Court of Baseball decides
- 3:13Speaker 1: that an arbitration panel decides that Schooble is worth twenty
- 3:17Speaker 1: five point five million dollars plus one penny or a
- 3:21Speaker 1: dollar whatever, then he will get thirty two million dollars.
- 3:24Speaker 1: If they think he's worth less than that number, then
- 3:26Speaker 1: he will get nineteen. So what do you think of
- 3:29Speaker 1: this big battle we're about to enter.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I think both teams are surprised by word the other
- 3:34Speaker 2: one filed meaning Schooble's team and the Tigers, because I
- 3:38Speaker 2: don't think I think the record for arbitration is nineteen
- 3:42Speaker 2: point seventy five. David Price with I believe the Tigers.
- 3:46Speaker 1: So for a pitcher.
- 3:47Speaker 2: He dated for a pitcher, sorry for a pitcher. So
- 3:49Speaker 2: the Tigers are probably thinking, well, we went to nineteen
- 3:52Speaker 2: how much higher can he be?
- 3:54Speaker 3: Oh?
- 3:54Speaker 2: Thirty two? He is the back to back Say Young
- 3:56Speaker 2: Award winner. I hope he wins, just because I want
- 4:00Speaker 2: the players to get all the money. Listen to somebody
- 4:02Speaker 2: that went through this arbitration process. It sucks as a
- 4:04Speaker 2: player because you just sit there across He's gonna sit
- 4:06Speaker 2: across from Scott Harris and all a couple other front
- 4:10Speaker 2: office people that he knows well, and they're gonna say
- 4:11Speaker 2: how bad Tarrek Schouble is at this, and how bad
- 4:14Speaker 2: Terreork Schooble is at that. And you walk out of
- 4:16Speaker 2: there and you're like, I hate this team because they
- 4:18Speaker 2: just blast you. Now, if you can go in there
- 4:20Speaker 2: with an open mind and just say they're just doing
- 4:21Speaker 2: their job. It's hard, though, And I don't know how
- 4:25Speaker 2: he's going to be a free agent after this, because
- 4:28Speaker 2: after you go through this unless they offer you just
- 4:30Speaker 2: a massive contract, which you haven't been willing to do.
- 4:33Speaker 2: He's gonna walk away from this with the bad taste
- 4:35Speaker 2: in his mouth. And if I was the Tigers, I'd
- 4:37Speaker 2: just be like, how about we give you twenty five
- 4:39Speaker 2: million right now?
- 4:40Speaker 3: Now?
- 4:41Speaker 2: What do you say? No?
- 4:42Speaker 1: You know you think he would, you think maybe get
- 4:44Speaker 1: to this point. I think he's going to be pretty
- 4:46Speaker 1: tough with them because I'd be pissed. I want back
- 4:48Speaker 1: to back cy Young Awards, and I know Todd father
- 4:50Speaker 1: has experience with this. Before you go, Todd, I just
- 4:53Speaker 1: want to point out David Price holds that record nineteen
- 4:57Speaker 1: point seventy five million that records from twin twenty fifteen.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Twenty fifteen, the Tigers filed less than what David Price
- 5:06Speaker 1: got a decade plus a go Ino Cyrus pointed out
- 5:10Speaker 1: on Twitter that nineteen point seventy five million, just based
- 5:13Speaker 1: on inflation alone, is now worth twenty seven million dollars
- 5:17Speaker 1: and Schooble had a better season than Price and it's
- 5:19Speaker 1: back to back cy Young Awards. So if I'm making
- 5:22Speaker 1: that case, I'm feeling really strongly right now that they're
- 5:24Speaker 1: going to tip the scales towards me being worth a
- 5:26Speaker 1: little more than twenty five And if that's the case,
- 5:29Speaker 1: I might as well just sit pretty state my case
- 5:32Speaker 1: and get thirty two million dollars and really change the sport.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Starting pitchers are underpaid in arbitration.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Yeah, And to go back to all your points here,
- 5:42Speaker 4: it's funny David Price. It was eleven years ago, nineteen
- 5:44Speaker 4: point seven five, he didn't even win a cy Young
- 5:47Speaker 4: and he got nineteen point seven five. I think this
- 5:51Speaker 4: case right here, I think school boy has it in
- 5:53Speaker 4: my opinion. I think he has it in the bag.
- 5:55Speaker 4: If you want the truth, I think the team is
- 5:58Speaker 4: going to go back and look at Jacob deGrom. I
- 6:00Speaker 4: was looking all this up. He had one cy Young
- 6:02Speaker 4: and he got seventeen million. But this is his second
- 6:07Speaker 4: one Schooble, second in a row. So where do you
- 6:09Speaker 4: put that price range? I put it up there just
- 6:12Speaker 4: I think the price is just where it needs to be.
- 6:14Speaker 4: And you know, you look back on some of these
- 6:17Speaker 4: things again we talk about Price. He didn't have a
- 6:19Speaker 4: cy Young Award. It was that nineteen seventy five. So
- 6:21Speaker 4: where does two cy Young awards make them? I honestly
- 6:25Speaker 4: think it's in the bag. I think Schooble made the
- 6:27Speaker 4: right choice by going a little bit higher. And I
- 6:29Speaker 4: think if you look at the value of twenty twenty five,
- 6:32Speaker 4: whatever it was, if it's dollar over a dollar.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Less, I think it's an easy, easy win for him.
- 6:38Speaker 4: I don't know how he can lose this one, knowing
- 6:40Speaker 4: that he's pretty much the undisputed best pitcher in baseball.
- 6:43Speaker 4: He's got two Cy Young Award awards, and you know,
- 6:47Speaker 4: if we're going back to each of these things, I
- 6:49Speaker 4: think I think he has this one in the bag.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Scott a j.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Yeah, and also Todd Father, by the way, give me
- 6:54Speaker 1: a little tilt this way, right, babe, Yeah, on the
- 6:58Speaker 1: same camera. Well, because he's lee by the way, but
- 7:01Speaker 1: it took the day off.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Something that helps it helps him, by the way, school
- 7:06Speaker 2: is he because he's in his sixth year, which is
- 7:08Speaker 2: he's five plus, he can use other pitchers contracts as
- 7:12Speaker 2: a comp He can use Zach Wheeler at forty two.
- 7:15Speaker 2: He can use Jacob b. Gram at thirty seven million. Right.
- 7:18Speaker 2: So he's saying, man, if those guys are worth that,
- 7:20Speaker 2: I have two cy Young's under my belt the last
- 7:23Speaker 2: two years, pay me and listen as somebody that went
- 7:25Speaker 2: through this again and at the time, now this was
- 7:28Speaker 2: two thousand and four, I set a record for the
- 7:30Speaker 2: highest three plus catcher and first time arbitration catcher. At
- 7:34Speaker 2: the time, it wasn't very much, but it wasn't thirty
- 7:37Speaker 2: whatever million. He wants, trust me. But the Union wants
- 7:41Speaker 2: these wins, The Player Association wants these wins, and the
- 7:44Speaker 2: owners don't want them to win. So both sides are
- 7:47Speaker 2: going to throw everything they have. They had me go
- 7:49Speaker 2: last and arbitration in two thousand and four because I
- 7:51Speaker 2: was trying to set a record for catchers and I won,
- 7:55Speaker 2: so the Union, obviously, the PA was excited. The owners,
- 7:58Speaker 2: and I was on the Giants at time, they were
- 8:00Speaker 2: very happy, right So, but both sides through everything they
- 8:03Speaker 2: had at it because the owners want to keep the
- 8:05Speaker 2: salaries down. The PA wants the salaries to go up,
- 8:07Speaker 2: and arbitration is one way for them to try to
- 8:10Speaker 2: regulate this. So both teams are going to both sides
- 8:13Speaker 2: are going to go hard, hard at this and it's
- 8:16Speaker 2: going to be fascinating. I hope he gets it. I
- 8:18Speaker 2: hope he wins because it'll only help players in the future.
- 8:22Speaker 3: And to finish a point too. Look, look, at CESE.
- 8:24Speaker 4: He just got thirty million dollars in free agency after
- 8:27Speaker 4: being hurt, So, like, you got to take all this
- 8:30Speaker 4: into accountability. There's so much leaning towards Schoogle being that
- 8:34Speaker 4: guy to make this money. If if he does lose,
- 8:39Speaker 4: I don't know how just because of all the cases
- 8:41Speaker 4: of what he has right now.
- 8:42Speaker 3: I mean, if you go back and look at everything.
- 8:44Speaker 3: But again, I'm not an arbiter. I'm not in the court.
- 8:48Speaker 3: I'm not there.
- 8:49Speaker 4: I don't know what else they can go by besides
- 8:51Speaker 4: Jacob de gram seventeen million after one cy young. To me,
- 8:56Speaker 4: I feel like, I know, thirty two and nineteen is
- 8:58Speaker 4: a huge difference, but I think he's worked every point
- 9:03Speaker 4: of that thirty two million dollars.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Yeah, And also, just for clarification, I don't think Cease
- 9:07Speaker 1: has been durable. He's been okay, But I you're saying,
- 9:10Speaker 1: I mean Cease obviously isn't Schoogle. There's a big difference.
- 9:14Speaker 3: That's what I'm hearing. These guys are getting paid, and yeah,
- 9:18Speaker 3: he deserves more than what these guys are getting a
- 9:22Speaker 3: lot more.
- 9:23Speaker 1: To me, this is a fundamental issue in the sport
- 9:26Speaker 1: right now, among many But why eleven years later is
- 9:31Speaker 1: the number of the same like in what world? Well,
- 9:34Speaker 1: I don't know what it was, but the revenue numbers
- 9:36Speaker 1: back then probably not as shiny, probably half that, maybe
- 9:42Speaker 1: a little bit more.
- 9:44Speaker 3: So.
- 9:45Speaker 1: We talked about inflation the whole deal. It'll be a
- 9:47Speaker 1: great battle.
- 9:48Speaker 2: If you're the tigers, though, why don't you go and
- 9:49Speaker 2: say we'll give you twenty seven, twenty eight thirty right now. Hey,
- 9:53Speaker 2: we'll go over the midpoint right now and get this
- 9:55Speaker 2: done so you don't have to go sit in that
- 9:57Speaker 2: room if you have a chance of resigning them.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Are you, Yeah, you're allowed to.
- 10:02Speaker 2: You can sign up to the minute. You can sign
- 10:05Speaker 2: up to the minute that the trial starts. And for
- 10:08Speaker 2: those people that have never heard of what happens at arbitration.
- 10:11Speaker 2: You walk in. There's these long table. It's shaped like
- 10:14Speaker 2: a te it's shaped like this. There's three arbitrators sitting
- 10:17Speaker 2: at this end, the players Association and the player on
- 10:21Speaker 2: this side, and on the other side of the GMS
- 10:23Speaker 2: and the the in the owner's people. And you sit
- 10:26Speaker 2: there and you as a player, you sit right at
- 10:29Speaker 2: the tee right here, and right across from you is
- 10:31Speaker 2: the GM or the assistant GM. Whoever is running the case,
- 10:34Speaker 2: and you just stare at them, and the union says,
- 10:36Speaker 2: do not make any emotions, no matter what kind of
- 10:38Speaker 2: stuff they what kind of bullshit they tell. And when
- 10:40Speaker 2: my case, they told some serious bullshit, and there was
- 10:43Speaker 2: a couple of times where my agent had to kick
- 10:45Speaker 2: me under the table because I wanted to like laugh
- 10:47Speaker 2: at some of the stuff they pull out. Stuff you
- 10:49Speaker 2: just don't even think is is even it's not relevant,
- 10:53Speaker 2: but they just pull it out.
- 10:55Speaker 1: And the arbitration panels not that smart on baseball, or
- 10:58Speaker 1: often it's not that smart on baseball. I guess that's
- 11:01Speaker 1: for them. Kind of the point. I don't know, right,
- 11:03Speaker 1: Like you're just independent. You're supposed to come in there
- 11:05Speaker 1: and just be like, present me what you've got. There's
- 11:08Speaker 1: some teams and I don't remember what the list is.
- 11:10Speaker 1: There are some teams that have a file and trial,
- 11:12Speaker 1: meaning yesterday is the deadline. You either figure it out
- 11:15Speaker 1: or refile our numbers. But most teams nowadays can still
- 11:18Speaker 1: settle between the time period yesterday of the deadline and
- 11:21Speaker 1: then the arbitration cases, which for the most part occur
- 11:24Speaker 1: in February. So AJ my response as fake schoogle representation
- 11:32Speaker 1: today is hell no on your twenty five mil. But yeah,
- 11:35Speaker 1: if you want to start talking twenty six, twenty seven,
- 11:38Speaker 1: twenty eight, we can start having a conversation, right because
- 11:41Speaker 1: think about it, he would significantly raise the tide for
- 11:44Speaker 1: arbitration at that point and you would take the risk
- 11:46Speaker 1: away of losing a case. Also, human beings are on
- 11:49Speaker 1: this case, and AJ we've joked about this in the past.
- 11:52Speaker 1: It's three guys on an arbitration panel, and if it
- 11:54Speaker 1: shifts one way or another too much, one side fires
- 11:57Speaker 1: the other. So this is going to be the most
- 11:59Speaker 1: controversial case ever if we get to that point. And
- 12:01Speaker 1: I just have a feeling that the arbitration panel will
- 12:04Speaker 1: be more worried about MLB than the PA. So if
- 12:06Speaker 1: I am a Google, you don't think so.
- 12:09Speaker 2: No, because it also depends on this. Okay, So if
- 12:12Speaker 2: you notice an arbitration by the way, they're chasing somebody
- 12:15Speaker 2: in Chicago, if you can hear the sirens. But the
- 12:20Speaker 2: arbitration cases are usually pretty even, like it's win loss
- 12:25Speaker 2: win laws. I know the owners have won more than
- 12:27Speaker 2: they've lost over the course of the history, but every
- 12:29Speaker 2: year it's kind of like almost fifty to fifty with
- 12:32Speaker 2: the owners winning like thirteen to eleven or twelve to
- 12:35Speaker 2: ten or nine to seven, whatever the numbers are. And
- 12:38Speaker 2: every once in a while the players will sneak in one.
- 12:40Speaker 2: But let's say it's eight to eight going down to
- 12:42Speaker 2: Schoogle and it could sway one way or the other.
- 12:45Speaker 2: And again, these are all made up numbers. But man,
- 12:48Speaker 2: because they are, I don't know who they're hired by,
- 12:50Speaker 2: if they're dually hired by the players Association and the owners.
- 12:54Speaker 2: But man, can you imagine being like, oh, I want
- 12:56Speaker 2: my job again, who do I vote for?
- 12:59Speaker 1: But here's the thing. All of the other cases combined
- 13:02Speaker 1: basically equal to separation in this like most of the
- 13:04Speaker 1: other cases Todd Feather, There's there's one case that's a
- 13:07Speaker 1: seventy five thousand dollars separation. You hope that one gets settled,
- 13:10Speaker 1: and then all the way up to I think the
- 13:11Speaker 1: highest separation besides Schooble this year is like a million
- 13:14Speaker 1: and a half. So if you think about it, I mean,
- 13:16Speaker 1: this is the case. This is like the case of
- 13:19Speaker 1: the century for arbitration.
- 13:20Speaker 4: If we actually go this is what you know, people say,
- 13:24Speaker 4: you know, this guy won, this guy lost. They don't
- 13:27Speaker 4: remember everything that happens during the game, you know you don't,
- 13:30Speaker 4: but there's this one moment that you remember. Oh this
- 13:33Speaker 4: is what tilted everything. Well, this is this is the moment.
- 13:37Speaker 4: This is the moment right here in arbitration. If Schooble
- 13:40Speaker 4: happens to win, it'll be an absolute monster win for players.
- 13:45Speaker 4: If he happens to lose, okay, you know, just another
- 13:48Speaker 4: loss in the book. This MLB has all to lose here,
- 13:51Speaker 4: in my opinion, and nothing to gain if you want
- 13:53Speaker 4: the truth.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's why if you're schooling, I do think,
- 13:57Speaker 1: I do think he's gonna get.
- 14:00Speaker 2: But the thing they gain, Todd, is if they win,
- 14:02Speaker 2: they hold salaries down, right, that's kind of their job.
- 14:05Speaker 2: That's what they have to win, right, the win. But
- 14:09Speaker 2: the Tigers lose if they goes to case, no matter what,
- 14:11Speaker 2: whether they win or lose, because if he loses, schoogle
- 14:13Speaker 2: School's gonna be pissed. And if he wins, he's still
- 14:16Speaker 2: gonna be pissed, but he's gonna be happy that he
- 14:17Speaker 2: got the money, but that he had to go through it.
- 14:19Speaker 2: But the owners win, Todd. The way the owners win
- 14:22Speaker 2: is if they win, they hold salaries down because the
- 14:24Speaker 2: next guy, whoever that next person is, goes Google. Wont
- 14:27Speaker 2: two so Youngs. Paul Schemes would be the next guy,
- 14:29Speaker 2: right if he doesn't sign a long term deal at
- 14:32Speaker 2: some point by the Pirates. Sorry, wow, sorry, I made
- 14:36Speaker 2: myself laugh and choke right there. I send the long
- 14:38Speaker 2: term deal from the pirates Paul Schemes. But when he
- 14:41Speaker 2: gets arbitration in a couple of years, okay year a
- 14:48Speaker 2: cy young Scooble got thirty two my first year arbitration,
- 14:52Speaker 2: He's going to be looking at ten to twelve maybe,
- 14:54Speaker 2: and then by the time he gets to his thirty
- 14:56Speaker 2: year arbitration, he could be in the forties maybe. So
- 14:59Speaker 2: you know, this is what the owner is. This is
- 15:02Speaker 2: why arbitration is such a tricky process. Teams hate going through.
- 15:05Speaker 2: That's why they do the file and trial because most
- 15:07Speaker 2: players get scared at the end and say, oh, take
- 15:09Speaker 2: whatever you want, right, but you know what you deserve it. Derek,
- 15:13Speaker 2: You've been through it, You've been hurt. Now you're the
- 15:15Speaker 2: best picture of the planet. If you wont two so
- 15:17Speaker 2: Young's in a row. You've carried this team to the
- 15:18Speaker 2: postseason for two years in a row. Go get that glue,
- 15:22Speaker 2: and I.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Know you guys will love this. MLB has been trying
- 15:25Speaker 1: to get rid of the arbitration system and essentially, as
- 15:28Speaker 1: far as I know, replace it with just a pure
- 15:31Speaker 1: numbers based system where they calculate a number and then
- 15:33Speaker 1: say this is what you're worth. And that is not
- 15:36Speaker 1: advantatious to players, and that's why they want to keep
- 15:39Speaker 1: the case thing going. Right, You're going to sum everyone
- 15:41Speaker 1: up by a number. For those that think there's way
- 15:43Speaker 1: too many numbers involved already, that would take it to
- 15:46Speaker 1: another level. So I don't think that's going to happen,
- 15:49Speaker 1: but it makes things very interesting. I do also want
- 15:51Speaker 1: to show the Rangers tweet because you have the Tigers
- 15:54Speaker 1: in a battle with Tyrek Skoobel and it could get
- 15:57Speaker 1: ugly and fans are already pissed that they haven't signed
- 15:59Speaker 1: him long term. How about this tweet from Rangers Nation.
- 16:02Speaker 1: The Ranger streak of avoiding salary arbitration has reached twenty
- 16:07Speaker 1: six consecutive years. As the club finalized their agreements, they
- 16:11Speaker 1: entered the offseason with nine are of eligible players. In
- 16:13Speaker 1: addition to those four they reached a deal with, They've
- 16:16Speaker 1: listed some other dudes but anyway, the fact that they
- 16:19Speaker 1: have not gone to an arbitration hearing since two thousand,
- 16:23Speaker 1: Lee Stevens, that's crazy. A twenty six year streak. It's
- 16:27Speaker 1: the longest in MLB history, surpassing Detroit's active streak by
- 16:31Speaker 1: one year. And Detroit's active streak is on the line
- 16:34Speaker 1: with mister Scoogle, whoa, it's everyone's favorite song? Where will
- 16:53Speaker 1: bo go? And we do have a new contender in
- 16:58Speaker 1: the mix? I would call them a new contender, guys.
- 17:00Speaker 1: I mean, we didn't really think the Phillies were going
- 17:03Speaker 1: to be serious, and from the article that Ken and
- 17:06Speaker 1: Matt Gelb put together in The Athletic, I think it
- 17:09Speaker 1: should be taken somewhat seriously. The Phillies have been known
- 17:13Speaker 1: to spend a pretty penny on players like this. So
- 17:16Speaker 1: there is a little back and forth video exchange that
- 17:19Speaker 1: is going to occur with these two. They'll have a
- 17:21Speaker 1: little video conference call to talk about life and if
- 17:23Speaker 1: they feel like there's a fit. But here's where it
- 17:26Speaker 1: gets even more interesting to me, Todd Father, the Phillies
- 17:29Speaker 1: wouldn't just do this and then nothing else. They would
- 17:33Speaker 1: have to trade someone like aj just mentioned. So that's
- 17:36Speaker 1: Stott or Boem, and it's probably Bohm who's entering his
- 17:40Speaker 1: free agent year. And then I guess you put bo
- 17:42Speaker 1: at third. Guess what. Bobashet has never played third. He's
- 17:44Speaker 1: played a little second, he looked really good there, but
- 17:46Speaker 1: he's never played third. And then there's the JT. Real
- 17:48Speaker 1: Muto factor where we're not sure if they're going to
- 17:51Speaker 1: bring him back if they end up spending this money
- 17:54Speaker 1: on Bobashett. But one other thing I'll say is that
- 17:56Speaker 1: the Phillies are just about at that luxury tax number.
- 17:58Speaker 1: They're already at a certain level of luxury text, but
- 18:02Speaker 1: they're almost at the number where it's one hundred and
- 18:04Speaker 1: ten percent of every dollar over. So that means if
- 18:07Speaker 1: Bobaschet is getting paid thirty million dollars next year, it
- 18:11Speaker 1: would really be like seventy million dollars in terms of
- 18:14Speaker 1: what it costs them.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think there's a lot of unknowns here.
- 18:19Speaker 4: What do the Phillies want to do? Is there somebody
- 18:21Speaker 4: that wants Alec Baum? Is there an opportunity where they
- 18:25Speaker 4: really think he fits well at third base? And I
- 18:28Speaker 4: guess there's something to it, because they did have a meeting.
- 18:31Speaker 4: I think Bob would fit very well with this Philly team.
- 18:34Speaker 4: I think they would help out substantially. But then there's
- 18:37Speaker 4: a lot of different decisions that the Phillies are going
- 18:39Speaker 4: to have to make too as well. His name has
- 18:41Speaker 4: been out there for a while. There's been a couple guys,
- 18:43Speaker 4: but bobashett I feel like he's one of the most
- 18:45Speaker 4: interesting guys out there. Lo and behold because what he
- 18:48Speaker 4: did in the playoffs injured, I thought it was spectacular.
- 18:51Speaker 4: He hit that big home run even though they didn't
- 18:54Speaker 4: win it. He's a guy, he's a team guy, played
- 18:56Speaker 4: second base to help his team win.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Who wouldn't want him? I mean, who wouldn't want a
- 19:02Speaker 3: guy like that?
- 19:03Speaker 4: So he's gonna be fully healthy, uh, coming into the season,
- 19:06Speaker 4: and he's gonna go out there and dominate. Which whatever
- 19:09Speaker 4: team is going to pick him up. But yeah, seeing
- 19:11Speaker 4: the Phillies kind of get after it a little bit here,
- 19:14Speaker 4: it's inspiring. I know Kraty's gonna be happy about that
- 19:16Speaker 4: to hear, but we'll see what happens with them. I
- 19:19Speaker 4: know there's other teams lingering, but we're getting closer to
- 19:22Speaker 4: spring training, guy, so you know, either should or get
- 19:25Speaker 4: off the pot here.
- 19:26Speaker 3: It's coming up soon, agreed.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Here's my question for you guys. We don't know what
- 19:31Speaker 2: Bo's asking for. Okay, we don't know where we'll bogo.
- 19:34Speaker 2: We know that the song says it, but we also
- 19:37Speaker 2: don't know what he's asking for. My question on this
- 19:40Speaker 2: whole thing is, it's the same kind of with Bellinger.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Two guys sometimes in their agents overshoot their worth. Okay,
- 19:49Speaker 2: and I'm not saying Bo's not worth a ton of money,
- 19:52Speaker 2: but the way the Phillies can get in on this is,
- 19:54Speaker 2: let's say both thought he was gonna get ten years
- 19:56Speaker 2: three fifteen, but now all of a sudden that offer's
- 19:58Speaker 2: not out there, and now it's seven years two hundred, right,
- 20:02Speaker 2: so it cuts it down a little bit. I don't know,
- 20:05Speaker 2: because I've fought over this and I've seen some interesting
- 20:11Speaker 2: thoughts on this online and stuff. And you know Bo's
- 20:13Speaker 2: ops is eight oh six, which you know doesn't put
- 20:16Speaker 2: him in that upper echelon of superstars, right, So maybe
- 20:21Speaker 2: that's what's happened. I do hope not, because Bo's a
- 20:23Speaker 2: great player, like Todd said, and I think he can
- 20:25Speaker 2: bring a lot to a team offensively, defensively, just pure
- 20:31Speaker 2: being around the clubhouse. So I don't know if that's
- 20:34Speaker 2: the case, but it's just an interesting There's so many
- 20:37Speaker 2: interesting case studies. We Alex Fragmant and his age get
- 20:39Speaker 2: a long term deal, what happens with Kyle Tucker because
- 20:42Speaker 2: of all the questions with him? Right, it's an interesting
- 20:46Speaker 2: case of what a club's value with these major free
- 20:50Speaker 2: agents that are left, and what are the teams out
- 20:52Speaker 2: there that are willing to go to their price? And
- 20:55Speaker 2: as soon as one of them gets so you would
- 20:56Speaker 2: think these guys would sign, and as soon as one signs,
- 20:59Speaker 2: I think you'll see an avalanche.
- 21:01Speaker 3: For me aj.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I love this because I do feel as if the
- 21:05Speaker 1: Phillies have to do something different, something different, right, I
- 21:10Speaker 1: mean if that means the pain of losing some guys
- 21:13Speaker 1: that have been part of the core for a while,
- 21:15Speaker 1: like Bohm and Real. Muto is a big deal there.
- 21:17Speaker 1: The pitchers love working with him. I know that would
- 21:19Speaker 1: be complicated and difficult, but I just don't want to
- 21:22Speaker 1: keep running out the same exact lineup. If I'm Philadelphia,
- 21:25Speaker 1: that's me and I think Boba Schett would be a
- 21:28Speaker 1: huge factor for them, not just during a season where
- 21:30Speaker 1: he's almost always a hits leader, but I think he's
- 21:33Speaker 1: got the playoff or as crafts they do, though he
- 21:36Speaker 1: always looks for But.
- 21:37Speaker 2: What you said, Scott is true, and people, not only
- 21:41Speaker 2: you and Kratz especially have been calling for this, but
- 21:43Speaker 2: Philly fans have been calling for mix it up. That's
- 21:46Speaker 2: why Alec Bohm has been such a popular trade target,
- 21:49Speaker 2: right or trade rumor, I guess would be the right word. Right.
- 21:53Speaker 2: That's why Brandon marsh and whoever they try to do
- 21:56Speaker 2: that when they brought in Baitor this year to mix
- 21:58Speaker 2: up some things that the Philly fans, especially when Kratz
- 22:02Speaker 2: is back on Nick you ask him, but they've been
- 22:04Speaker 2: kind of clamoring for a mix up because they're Nola's
- 22:07Speaker 2: older wheelers older, right, So they went out and got
- 22:10Speaker 2: Lazardo Sworez Rangers sare is probably going to be gone,
- 22:13Speaker 2: but you have Sanchez, so they kind of want to
- 22:16Speaker 2: changing in the guard. But Turner Harper now Schwarber's back,
- 22:19Speaker 2: real Mudo might not come back, right, So there's been
- 22:22Speaker 2: some different changes, but Philly fans are like, we want
- 22:24Speaker 2: to blow this up. This team is still really good.
- 22:27Speaker 2: Let's not forget this team is still really good. It's
- 22:28Speaker 2: not like they finished in fifth place last year. It's
- 22:30Speaker 2: not like they were the Rockies last year they won
- 22:33Speaker 2: the division. They lost to a Dodgers team that went
- 22:36Speaker 2: on and won the World Series for the second year
- 22:37Speaker 2: a row.
- 22:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I just feel as if the results aren't there
- 22:43Speaker 1: when you need them at the at the playoffs, in
- 22:46Speaker 1: the playoffs. So I'm like baseball.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Hard, Scott, you never played. Tell them baseball is hard.
- 22:51Speaker 2: It's hard to win.
- 22:52Speaker 3: It's hard.
- 22:53Speaker 2: It's really hard to win.
- 22:55Speaker 1: Why are you going to put the same roster out
- 22:56Speaker 1: there every time.
- 22:57Speaker 2: They did it? They've changed it up. They brought it Duran,
- 23:00Speaker 2: they brought in Lizardo, they brought in Harrison Vader. It's
- 23:04Speaker 2: a different team. It's not the exact same team as
- 23:06Speaker 2: it was two three years ago. They brought in little
- 23:08Speaker 2: pieces to try. But there's guys you can't get rid of.
- 23:10Speaker 2: They were't going to get rid of real mood Are
- 23:12Speaker 2: They were going to get rid of Shwerber. They weren't
- 23:13Speaker 2: going to get rid of Harper. They weren't going to
- 23:15Speaker 2: get rid of Trey Turner. They have Nola, they have Wheeler,
- 23:18Speaker 2: they have these guys. Sanchez who had a great year
- 23:20Speaker 2: for him. They brought in some different pieces to try
- 23:23Speaker 2: different things. You can't just blow it all up because
- 23:25Speaker 2: Scott want Scott bron wants to. It's really hard to
- 23:28Speaker 2: win a World Series.
- 23:29Speaker 4: They should be World Series champs with those names that
- 23:32Speaker 4: you're saying, that's how good of a team they are.
- 23:35Speaker 1: So exactly that's my point. If we have all these
- 23:39Speaker 1: big ass names, then why aren't we getting the results
- 23:42Speaker 1: that we want.
- 23:44Speaker 3: It's confusing, very.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Look how using it is for a one of those
- 24:00Speaker 1: like I don't know.
- 24:03Speaker 2: It was fun because I don't know what the fuck
- 24:05Speaker 2: Scott's talking about.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Your face was worth a thousand words. It's Friday, baby.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Katel Marte is off the market. We just heard it
- 24:16Speaker 1: from Ken Rosenthal. How does it affect the rest of
- 24:18Speaker 1: the market. Well, it takes a superstar bat off of
- 24:21Speaker 1: the market. I mean that's who he is. Aj We've
- 24:23Speaker 1: talked about him for a while. Tell Marte is a
- 24:26Speaker 1: superstar bat and he was going to cost about twenty
- 24:29Speaker 1: million year over the next five years. Not only is
- 24:32Speaker 1: he off the market now, he is probably off the
- 24:35Speaker 1: market forever. Most guys do not want to be traded
- 24:36Speaker 1: away from Arizona, especially if Arizona is competitive. Which it
- 24:39Speaker 1: sounds like they will be so it sounds like the
- 24:42Speaker 1: marriage will continue for another five years.
- 24:44Speaker 2: When does he hit ten five?
- 24:45Speaker 1: He hits ten five in like April, like it's coming up.
- 24:49Speaker 1: That's why they were like, let's explore this now, see
- 24:51Speaker 1: if we can get a boat load.
- 24:52Speaker 2: And you know there's times and Todd you know this too,
- 24:57Speaker 2: like even though you have ten five and a no
- 25:00Speaker 2: trade team, no one are not used no one As
- 25:02Speaker 2: an example, we just had the Cardinals on right where
- 25:05Speaker 2: teams go, you know what, we really want to trade you.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Sonny Gray had a no trade and he accepted a
- 25:09Speaker 2: trade to Boston. Were there like Wilson Contrells's another one.
- 25:13Speaker 2: They're like, hey, you know we're not going to be
- 25:15Speaker 2: any good. Can we trade you? And depending on where
- 25:18Speaker 2: that trade is, guys will say yes. Or you can
- 25:21Speaker 2: always have the Phil Nevin story where Phil, we want
- 25:23Speaker 2: to trade you. No, I'm good, Okay, you're catching tomorrow, Okay,
- 25:26Speaker 2: I'll accept the trade. Thank you.
- 25:28Speaker 3: Oh I didn't know that.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Oh yeah, crazy, They wanted to trade Phil. Phill was
- 25:34Speaker 2: a catcher when he came up to Padrey said we
- 25:36Speaker 2: want to trade you. We had ten to five and
- 25:38Speaker 2: they go, Okay, guess what, Phil, You're now a catcher.
- 25:40Speaker 2: They caught him in a game and then he was
- 25:42Speaker 2: traded like a day later. He's like, yeah, I'm good guys.
- 25:45Speaker 4: Oh my god, where it'sking injury too? Listen, did I
- 25:50Speaker 4: from what the Diamondbacks have done. I mean they've been
- 25:54Speaker 4: in talks with everybody bragman, of course. But I like
- 25:57Speaker 4: cattle Martell, I I really do. I think think he's
- 26:01Speaker 4: a superb hitter. I think he fits well in Arizona, nice, quiet,
- 26:04Speaker 4: hot Arizona. You know, everybody talks about how good he is.
- 26:08Speaker 4: He doesn't bring any baggage. He plays the game the
- 26:10Speaker 4: right way. I honestly think this was the right move.
- 26:13Speaker 4: And now they got to get some pitch and fill.
- 26:16Speaker 4: I don't know what the next thing is then for doing.
- 26:19Speaker 4: Are they gonna trade find a free agent? There's a
- 26:21Speaker 4: bunch of them out there. So, like I said, before,
- 26:24Speaker 4: the clock is ticking. They got this team has to
- 26:26Speaker 4: get going to there's a bunch of teams. But for
- 26:28Speaker 4: the Diningback to say they're not trade and then Marte
- 26:32Speaker 4: can do whatever the heck he pleases now and I'll
- 26:33Speaker 4: go out and dominate.
- 26:36Speaker 3: Man.
- 26:37Speaker 1: If they had Alex Bragman, that would be sick. It's
- 26:39Speaker 1: not out of the realm. I know that it's been
- 26:41Speaker 1: talked about for a while now, and I don't know
- 26:44Speaker 1: a Kratz is on the camp like it's not a thing.
- 26:46Speaker 1: It's just making sure that there's another suitor involved, that is,
- 26:50Speaker 1: you know, going to maybe compete with the Red Sox,
- 26:52Speaker 1: even if they're really not for the money offer. Are
- 26:56Speaker 1: you more in that camp or do you think there's
- 26:57Speaker 1: any seriousness to I will say and own he does this.
- 27:04Speaker 1: He's one of those wake up and decide something different.
- 27:06Speaker 1: And there are multiple owners who operate like this. Artie
- 27:09Speaker 1: Morino is one of those as well, where sometimes they
- 27:11Speaker 1: wake up and they just say, screw it. I'm signing
- 27:13Speaker 1: Anthony Rendon and Ken Kendrick goes screw it. I'm signing
- 27:16Speaker 1: Corbyn Burns. Alex Bragman would change the game in Arizona.
- 27:22Speaker 2: I agree. I just I don't see. I just don't
- 27:24Speaker 2: see it happen. I just I don't. I don't. I
- 27:27Speaker 2: wish they would, because listen, it's always good. It's good
- 27:30Speaker 2: for the game and good for the fans. When not
- 27:33Speaker 2: the Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, Cubs, whoever you want
- 27:36Speaker 2: to throw into that list of teams isn't doing all
- 27:39Speaker 2: the signings of guys, right when you get the Arizona signing,
- 27:41Speaker 2: when you get Pittsburgh signing a couple guys this year,
- 27:44Speaker 2: when you get other teams that go out and sign guys,
- 27:46Speaker 2: I just it's gonna be hard for me to see
- 27:48Speaker 2: Bragman not go back to Boston. I'm sorry, It's gonna
- 27:52Speaker 2: be really really hard for me not to see him
- 27:54Speaker 2: back in Boston.
- 27:57Speaker 1: And Boston has options if it doesn't work out, that
- 27:59Speaker 1: could end up being the destination for Boba Schet right,
- 28:02Speaker 1: That's why you have a little bit of a logjam.
- 28:06Speaker 1: I guess I do think that I don't like to
- 28:09Speaker 1: do that. Oh, this person is holding up the market situation.
- 28:12Speaker 1: But I do think that there is a little wait
- 28:15Speaker 1: and see with the Blue Jays on Kyle Tucker. That's
- 28:19Speaker 1: supposed to be the high end contract and then maybe
- 28:22Speaker 1: things fill out a little bit more. But what do
- 28:25Speaker 1: I know, show me the money money. That's not Cody
- 28:37Speaker 1: Bellinger on the line with the Yankees. That is from
- 28:40Speaker 1: an old movie, Jerry maguire, Todd Father. You know, I
- 28:44Speaker 1: like to reference that every time we can. Thirty million
- 28:47Speaker 1: dollars is the report that we saw from Brendan Coody,
- 28:50Speaker 1: who covers the team really well for the Athletic and
- 28:53Speaker 1: he put out there Yankees offer more than thirty million
- 28:55Speaker 1: per year, but gaps remain in conversationations. Cody's camp wants
- 29:02Speaker 1: seven years. The number that the Yankees are putting out
- 29:06Speaker 1: there would be a top five number for an outfielder
- 29:09Speaker 1: in terms of average annual value. We do not know
- 29:11Speaker 1: how many years. That is not a known figure at
- 29:14Speaker 1: the moment, but Brendan says thirty that would place after
- 29:18Speaker 1: Soto's fifty one, Judges forty trouts thirty five and a half.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Bets is thirty, so they'd be right there, neck and
- 29:25Speaker 1: neck with Mookie Betts. After that is Christian Yelich, by
- 29:28Speaker 1: the way, six on the list in terms of outfield money.
- 29:31Speaker 1: The one other thing Todd father that was in this
- 29:32Speaker 1: article was comps Pete Alonso gets five years one to
- 29:36Speaker 1: fifty five. That's thirty one a year through his age
- 29:39Speaker 1: thirty five season. Cody is thirty years old, so I
- 29:42Speaker 1: guess he's what basically the same age as Pete. Are
- 29:44Speaker 1: very close. Schwarber which I think is kind of a
- 29:47Speaker 1: different person. In case got five to one to fifty
- 29:49Speaker 1: to thirty a year through his age thirty seven season.
- 29:52Speaker 1: He has been aging well already, right, I mean his
- 29:55Speaker 1: best year might have been this past season at whatever,
- 29:57Speaker 1: thirty two years old.
- 29:58Speaker 3: So at all of the.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Up where are we at? And fans look at this
- 30:03Speaker 1: and want to kind of blame one side, like is
- 30:05Speaker 1: Cody being too greedy if it's say a five year
- 30:08Speaker 1: deal and he wonts seven if it's five years thirty
- 30:11Speaker 1: a year at one fifty ish? Is he being too greedy?
- 30:15Speaker 1: Or the Yanks or should they just kumbayan say six
- 30:18Speaker 1: point eighty let's do this tomorrow.
- 30:22Speaker 4: I'm lick in between on this because I love that
- 30:26Speaker 4: they're doing comps and they get to see, like who
- 30:28Speaker 4: made this and who made that. I'm looking at the
- 30:30Speaker 4: numbers here as well. Mookie BET's thirty point four? Yeah,
- 30:34Speaker 4: is he right around there? I think maybe below. I
- 30:37Speaker 4: I like the thirty million dollars. I think he's worth
- 30:40Speaker 4: every penny of it. I do it just a matter again,
- 30:42Speaker 4: like you talk about years.
- 30:46Speaker 3: Yeah, it just you never know what's going on in
- 30:48Speaker 3: their minds. Is this is this a ploy.
- 30:50Speaker 4: Is this something to post up there just to get
- 30:52Speaker 4: people's minds going. And I think, honestly that's part of it,
- 30:55Speaker 4: just to get the fans excited or get them frustrated.
- 31:00Speaker 4: I want the players to make as much money as possible.
- 31:02Speaker 4: I'm not an agent, but at the same time, you know,
- 31:05Speaker 4: you have to look at other people and see where
- 31:07Speaker 4: you might you know, fit, and you go buy numbers.
- 31:09Speaker 3: And that's what baseball is. It's a numbers game. So
- 31:12Speaker 3: this is a start.
- 31:14Speaker 4: Scott I talked all the time about him, like, dude,
- 31:16Speaker 4: we got to get something going here.
- 31:17Speaker 3: So we're seeing a figure here at least from somebody.
- 31:20Speaker 1: And to me, aj the Yankees are holding firm like
- 31:23Speaker 1: we're not going seven years. Maybe it's five, maybe it's six.
- 31:25Speaker 1: They might already be at six, they might be at
- 31:27Speaker 1: six point eighty, and they're like, dude, we're not giving
- 31:28Speaker 1: you seven. We don't feel like anyone else in the
- 31:30Speaker 1: marketplace has given you seven. And this is where we'd
- 31:33Speaker 1: like to stop. Cody's a very good player. He was
- 31:34Speaker 1: a five win player this past season, fourteenth in MVP.
- 31:38Speaker 1: He does it all in terms of the tools and
- 31:41Speaker 1: in terms of the athleticism and the positions that he
- 31:43Speaker 1: can play. But it's not been a perfect ride for him.
- 31:46Speaker 3: AJ.
- 31:47Speaker 1: He's had some lows and lows. He's been what non
- 31:50Speaker 1: tendered by the Dodgers, traded multiple times or right, no,
- 31:56Speaker 1: traded once. I guess he signed with the Cubs on
- 31:58Speaker 1: that deal. Then he didn't use the opt out. He
- 32:00Speaker 1: stayed for one more season, then traded to the Yankees.
- 32:03Speaker 1: They had a great year this past season. Really good player.
- 32:06Speaker 1: It's just that it is a tough sell sometimes to say, Okay,
- 32:10Speaker 1: this guy's going to go over the two hundred mill
- 32:11Speaker 1: mark when a few years ago the Dodgers wouldn't pay
- 32:14Speaker 1: him like seventeen and a half million bucks for one year.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that. That's what's That's what's interesting about
- 32:21Speaker 2: Cody Bellinger is if you go back two years, he
- 32:23Speaker 2: was a two two war player, Right, he has a
- 32:26Speaker 2: lower career ops plus than Bo Baschett. Okay, by one
- 32:31Speaker 2: twenty one for Bashett. And that's the numbers they all
- 32:34Speaker 2: look at. So I just don't I don't know like why.
- 32:39Speaker 2: This is why I asked man, like are they bidding
- 32:42Speaker 2: against themselves? The Yankees? Because who else is out there?
- 32:46Speaker 2: The Mats?
- 32:47Speaker 3: I guess.
- 32:47Speaker 2: But if the Yankees are offered him thirty years and
- 32:49Speaker 2: they're giving him six point eighty, how do you turn
- 32:52Speaker 2: that down? And listen, I want players to get every
- 32:54Speaker 2: dollar they can get, but man, that is a lot
- 32:57Speaker 2: to turn down. If I'm you know, you know, listen,
- 33:00Speaker 2: twenty three he was really good, but if you go
- 33:01Speaker 2: twenty twenty one, twenty two, he was not worth thirty
- 33:06Speaker 2: million dollars a year. So the Yankees and other teams
- 33:08Speaker 2: are going which Cody Bellinger we going to get as
- 33:10Speaker 2: he gets older and he gets older and he's gonna
- 33:13Speaker 2: be at thirty this year, which guy are we going
- 33:15Speaker 2: to get? And I don't know the answer to that.
- 33:17Speaker 2: I wish I did know the answer. If you could
- 33:19Speaker 2: tell me he was gonna do what he did this
- 33:21Speaker 2: past year and hit twenty nine homers and drive in
- 33:23Speaker 2: almost one hundred and and have a you know, eight
- 33:26Speaker 2: hundred plus ops and all that, then yeah, is he
- 33:29Speaker 2: worth it? Yeah? But I just don't. I think teams
- 33:32Speaker 2: look at it and say which one are we going
- 33:33Speaker 2: to get? They're gonna say, well, he hurt his shoulder.
- 33:35Speaker 2: Remember he heard his shoulder in the celebration, and that's
- 33:38Speaker 2: why he was down at what Boris will say. But
- 33:40Speaker 2: I just I think teams are looking at saying we
- 33:42Speaker 2: don't know which Cody Bellinger we're gonna get for multiple years.
- 33:46Speaker 1: Yeah, if there's a blame meter. If it's four years,
- 33:49Speaker 1: I'm blaming the Yankees. If it's five years, I'm close.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Maybe it's tight, right, I can I can be flipped
- 33:57Speaker 1: fifty to fifty there. If it's six years, I'm blaming
- 33:59Speaker 1: Cody's camp for sure, right, But I just don't think
- 34:01Speaker 1: that there's any other team out there that's going to
- 34:04Speaker 1: go seven years thirty years. There another team out there
- 34:07Speaker 1: that might stretch it to seven years and a lower
- 34:10Speaker 1: average annual value perhaps, but it's hard to know without
- 34:15Speaker 1: the years in place. I doubt that it's below five years,
- 34:19Speaker 1: don't you guys doubt that. I don't think they're going, hey,
- 34:21Speaker 1: four years at thirty for someone his age and based
- 34:24Speaker 1: off the other comps. But I also don't think he
- 34:26Speaker 1: has the track record hitting wise that Schober or Pete
- 34:29Speaker 1: Alonzo do. He's more of an all around player. I
- 34:31Speaker 1: get that, but I don't know. I mean, if I
- 34:33Speaker 1: could be convinced on a five at thirty for him
- 34:37Speaker 1: and be like Wow, that's still a really good deal
- 34:40Speaker 1: for Cody.
- 34:42Speaker 3: I agree. I agree undred percent.
- 34:45Speaker 4: I do, and I think that'll be fine.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Ft helping p people get jobs. No, I'm kidding, but
- 35:02Speaker 1: former Minnesota Twins general manager Thad Levigne he's going to
- 35:06Speaker 1: be a special advisor to baseball operations for the Milwaukee Brewers,
- 35:10Speaker 1: so he gets to stay out there in the Midwest.
- 35:12Speaker 1: We had some fun conversations with that. I don't know
- 35:15Speaker 1: if he's still going to be doing what he's doing maybe.
- 35:19Speaker 1: I mean, he's got his little he's got his podcast
- 35:21Speaker 1: and some other appearances and things that he's been doing.
- 35:23Speaker 1: But we'll see. We love to have him him on,
- 35:26Speaker 1: so let's we'll try and get him back actually, so
- 35:28Speaker 1: we can talk about that. And he's joining a very
- 35:29Speaker 1: successful franchise. So Twins had a good little run, then
- 35:32Speaker 1: they didn't and they became a disaster. That out good
- 35:36Speaker 1: timing and latching on with an organization that's in a
- 35:41Speaker 1: good spot right now. Last thing I wanted to do
- 35:45Speaker 1: Todd Father, just because I promised it at the top,
- 35:47Speaker 1: just for the last few minutes, is can you lay
- 35:49Speaker 1: out a little bit more details because you did some
- 35:51Speaker 1: homework on your arbitration case. I thought the comp part
- 35:53Speaker 1: was cool. I just wanted you to share that part.
- 35:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 35:56Speaker 4: No, When I had my arbitration after my third year,
- 35:59Speaker 4: you know, when you come pair of people, you got
- 36:01Speaker 4: to go back to what they had, and and for
- 36:03Speaker 4: me it was my agency and myself. We went we
- 36:08Speaker 4: we compared ourselves to Eric Cosmer, and he was a
- 36:10Speaker 4: super two, which meant, you know, he had four years
- 36:13Speaker 4: of arbitration.
- 36:15Speaker 3: He had. What he had after his fifth year was five.
- 36:18Speaker 4: Years, one hundred and seventy one days. I had five
- 36:20Speaker 4: years forty nine days, so I wasn't eligible for that.
- 36:24Speaker 4: And if we go back, you know, by the numbers here,
- 36:27Speaker 4: if I can just pull them up here, excuse me it.
- 36:30Speaker 4: You know, his salary went his straight four years was
- 36:34Speaker 4: three point six five seven eight three twelve two five.
- 36:37Speaker 4: So I went off his fourth year and it's very unheard.
- 36:40Speaker 3: Of to do that.
- 36:41Speaker 4: Then I give credit to my agency. So my third
- 36:43Speaker 4: year I made pretty much the same as him. I
- 36:46Speaker 4: made twelve million, and we went back and forth on
- 36:49Speaker 4: what we wanted to do. My power numbers were better
- 36:51Speaker 4: than Hosmer's, but he had other things, you know, an
- 36:57Speaker 4: all star, I forget off the top of my head.
- 37:00Speaker 4: But then their team went by Chase Headley. So the
- 37:03Speaker 4: White Sox, who I was on, they said, well, we're
- 37:06Speaker 4: comparing you to Chase Headley, and Headley was a guy,
- 37:09Speaker 4: salary guy, where we were pretty much the same. I
- 37:11Speaker 4: had a lot more home runs, a lot more power
- 37:13Speaker 4: than him, but you know, he had more of the accolades.
- 37:17Speaker 4: So it was a back and forth battle. And you know, basically,
- 37:21Speaker 4: you know what happened there. You know, the two sides,
- 37:25Speaker 4: you know, came to an agreement. They started at like
- 37:28Speaker 4: eight million, we started at sixteen, and we basically met
- 37:31Speaker 4: in the middle.
- 37:32Speaker 3: And that's kind of basically what happens.
- 37:34Speaker 4: You know, we had the same position, same career, war
- 37:37Speaker 4: it just had a little more hardware than I did.
- 37:39Speaker 4: But it goes about numbers all the time. So as
- 37:41Speaker 4: we talk about.
- 37:43Speaker 1: Well, this was you promoting yourself more as a third
- 37:45Speaker 1: baseman though, right, I mean third base, but third base
- 37:49Speaker 1: for Hosmer, I mean third baseman get more value than
- 37:51Speaker 1: a first baseman. So that gave you a little bit.
- 37:54Speaker 1: You know, if Hosmer had you on say I don't know,
- 37:57Speaker 1: batting average and RBIs or whatever, and you have them
- 37:59Speaker 1: on power or you have them on position right. So
- 38:01Speaker 1: I'm just looking at numbers you were coming off the
- 38:03Speaker 1: last three seasons leading up to that, twenty on homers,
- 38:05Speaker 1: thirty five homers, forty homers. I'm sure they tried to say,
- 38:08Speaker 1: or they would have said an arbitration. Oh he's in Cincinnati,
- 38:10Speaker 1: it doesn't count.
- 38:11Speaker 3: It's home runs in Cincinnati.
- 38:13Speaker 1: But anyway, it's just cool because AJ for me, when
- 38:16Speaker 1: Todd told me that, I'm like, damn, they went from
- 38:19Speaker 1: they were at eight and todd Father's like, all right,
- 38:21Speaker 1: screw you. It's kind of like a MIDI school thing.
- 38:23Speaker 1: We're going to sixteen, right, that's the number that's above.
- 38:27Speaker 1: But all they have to do is prove that he's
- 38:29Speaker 1: twelve point one and he gets sixteen. And that's why
- 38:32Speaker 1: the Socks came back and said, uncle, twelve done.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what happens a lot of times. That's why
- 38:38Speaker 2: you shouldn't be trial and file right, file trail.
- 38:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:43Speaker 1: I got to look that up maybe next week. Which
- 38:45Speaker 1: teams are still doing that officially? Officially, I feel like
- 38:48Speaker 1: there's been some that have cracked, but both sides don't
- 38:51Speaker 1: want to get to that point. So anyway, I think
- 38:54Speaker 1: we have one tweet on the way out that has
- 38:56Speaker 1: to do with a mascot and also we've got nice bears.
- 39:00Speaker 3: What is that? Is that a blank bears?
- 39:03Speaker 2: It's a blanket I bought in Mexico years ago. It's
- 39:06Speaker 2: like a poncho blanket kind of thing. A little I
- 39:09Speaker 2: don't think it's gonna keep me warm at the game tomorrow.
- 39:11Speaker 2: But fuck, those packers don't even greater, you know what
- 39:16Speaker 2: I'm saying.
- 39:17Speaker 1: Yeah, you guys see this from from barstool Detroit. Got Yeah,
- 39:22Speaker 1: they were saying, terminated, just talking about the TV deals
- 39:25Speaker 1: and then pause. The mascot was like, oh I thought
- 39:28Speaker 1: I got fired for a second. You're good.
- 39:31Speaker 3: We love you.
- 39:31Speaker 1: You're just gonna be viewed on a different TV screen
- 39:34Speaker 1: next year. It's okay, and tell your team to wake
- 39:37Speaker 1: up up.
- 39:40Speaker 3: True everyone.
- 39:41Speaker 1: Next week, Aja, fun at the game. Tod by you
- 39:44Speaker 1: next week, Cincinnati trip in a week two, let's go
