- 2:05Speaker 3: I'm gonna try.
- 2:06Speaker 4: But you are part of just the lineage of someone
- 2:09Speaker 4: who is so influential and has so much and who's
- 2:13Speaker 4: had so much impact on so many people's lives, and
- 2:16Speaker 4: so we just want to get into your perspective, how
- 2:20Speaker 4: you grew up, where you're going, who you're becoming, all
- 2:23Speaker 4: the things so viewers can get to know make sense.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Sure, So let's can we can we get into it
- 2:29Speaker 3: for it? Let's go.
- 2:30Speaker 4: Let's get into it so well. First start off by
- 2:33Speaker 4: saying or answering this question, at what age did you
- 2:36Speaker 4: realize your grandma is who she is?
- 2:40Speaker 1: Like?
- 2:40Speaker 3: What was that moment like when you realized.
- 2:44Speaker 1: I was probably about like seven or eight years old,
- 2:48Speaker 1: because we used to go out in public, like to
- 2:50Speaker 1: the Third Street Promenade and stuff like that, and people
- 2:53Speaker 1: with cameras would like follow her around. And I used
- 2:56Speaker 1: to be like, what the hell is going on? Because
- 2:58Speaker 1: why are these people hopping out these vans trying to
- 3:01Speaker 1: take pictures of my grandma? And I think there was
- 3:04Speaker 1: a time where I saw her face on the billboard
- 3:06Speaker 1: and I was kind of like what, like what's happening here?
- 3:10Speaker 1: And then my mom explained it to me at the
- 3:12Speaker 1: Kids Choice Awards. Oh yeah, this is the moment, like
- 3:18Speaker 1: I remember, I will never forget this. I can't wait
- 3:20Speaker 1: to tell my about my daughter this story too. Like
- 3:23Speaker 1: we were walking the Orange carpet because it's orange, it's Nickelodeon,
- 3:27Speaker 1: you know, and this kid came up to me and
- 3:30Speaker 1: I was a little kid too, and he was just
- 3:32Speaker 1: talking to me, just being like, hey man, how you doing,
- 3:35Speaker 1: and like I never met him before, but his voice
- 3:39Speaker 1: sounded familiar and it ended up being Diego from Go
- 3:43Speaker 1: Diego Goes. So like I'm tripping. I'm like, Okay, something
- 3:47Speaker 1: is weird. It's happening here, Like I'm talking to you,
- 3:50Speaker 1: but you're not a real person. You were animation, you
- 3:53Speaker 1: know that character, and then that's when he kind of
- 3:56Speaker 1: clicked for me, like you know or no, no, this
- 3:59Speaker 1: is after that happened. Later on in that day, we
- 4:03Speaker 1: went inside it was a stable center, and then she
- 4:06Speaker 1: was all in the row and I remember her telling
- 4:09Speaker 1: us my grandmother being like, ye'all be right back. I
- 4:12Speaker 1: gotta go do something really quick, and like five minutes later,
- 4:15Speaker 1: she's on the stage and she's doing that, like she
- 4:24Speaker 1: does that a lot. I think that just kind of
- 4:28Speaker 1: like the shock factor. Even being her family member, you know,
- 4:31Speaker 1: it's still a surprise, like what she does. You know,
- 4:35Speaker 1: everybody in the audience is in shock too. They don't
- 4:37Speaker 1: know if she's coming up, and we don't even know and.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Were with her, so it surprised the entire audience that
- 4:42Speaker 4: she was announcing Oh my gosh.
- 4:44Speaker 1: She just randomly came up on the stage.
- 4:47Speaker 4: Yeah, So what's one thing about her that would surprise viewers?
- 4:52Speaker 1: I think how real she is. I think that there's
- 4:56Speaker 1: only certain you know, actors that can go and do
- 5:00Speaker 1: all these different roles but still be themselves. And I
- 5:03Speaker 1: feel like what you see on the TV is like
- 5:05Speaker 1: what you get in person. It's not somebody that's pretending
- 5:08Speaker 1: to be somebody else, you know, just to be liked
- 5:11Speaker 1: by people. You know. I feel like that realness is
- 5:13Speaker 1: what inspired people to want to go out and be
- 5:16Speaker 1: raw and be real with your skilling, with your image
- 5:19Speaker 1: and your art. You know. So that person that you
- 5:23Speaker 1: see on TV is authentically her, Yeah, unapologetically her. And
- 5:29Speaker 1: that's why I had so much respect and admiration towards her.
- 5:32Speaker 5: She's definitely unapologized, Oh my gosh.
- 5:35Speaker 4: And just you know, even I mean naturally respect your grandmothers, right,
- 5:39Speaker 4: like that's just what you do, but even just having her,
- 5:41Speaker 4: and she demands that respect because of just who she
- 5:45Speaker 4: is and her presence.
- 5:47Speaker 3: So how is she as a grandma? Like does she
- 5:49Speaker 3: give you? Like do you do you guys.
- 5:51Speaker 4: Have that grandma grandson type of like like that.
- 5:56Speaker 3: Relationship?
- 5:58Speaker 1: Well I have. I have three sisters, so I'm the
- 6:01Speaker 1: only you know, boy in our family other than my father.
- 6:03Speaker 1: But you know, uh, she always would just give like
- 6:08Speaker 1: sprinkle gems to me. She would ever like sit me
- 6:10Speaker 1: down and be like, Yo, this is what you gotta do,
- 6:12Speaker 1: and this is how you should do it. And because
- 6:14Speaker 1: it's like I feel like she lets me fly, you know,
- 6:17Speaker 1: like she lets me spread my wings if I if
- 6:20Speaker 1: I fail, then that's just get back up and do
- 6:23Speaker 1: it again. So I feel like, you know, people are
- 6:26Speaker 1: gonna say no to you, people Dona slam during your face.
- 6:28Speaker 1: But she kind of instilled in me that if you
- 6:31Speaker 1: love something, then that's not gonna stop you from chasing
- 6:34Speaker 1: after your goals and dreams. So I think that when
- 6:38Speaker 1: people ask me like what or some like gems or
- 6:41Speaker 1: lessons that she gave you, it's kind of hard for
- 6:44Speaker 1: me to say because I can't really pinpoint one thing
- 6:47Speaker 1: I could be. Like, you know, she always tells me
- 6:49Speaker 1: to keep chapstick with me, you know important that that's great,
- 7:00Speaker 1: that's that's actually like, you know, she tell me that
- 7:02Speaker 1: in passing, like she'll give me those gems and pass
- 7:05Speaker 1: It's never like I'm gonna sit you down and tell
- 7:07Speaker 1: you what you what you need to do, because I
- 7:10Speaker 1: think she respects that I am a man and like,
- 7:12Speaker 1: you know, I'm about to raise I'm raising my own family.
- 7:15Speaker 1: So she gives me that space to kind of grow
- 7:17Speaker 1: and figure stuff out while you know, I'm going through
- 7:20Speaker 1: the motions.
- 7:21Speaker 4: And did you inherit any of her personality, her humor.
- 7:26Speaker 1: I honestly, like I feel like I did. I mean, like,
- 7:31Speaker 1: of course, like it's in me, you know what I mean.
- 7:33Speaker 1: And uh, I think it's in all of us, like
- 7:36Speaker 1: all of my siblings, especially my mom. But I wouldn't
- 7:39Speaker 1: be able to like pinpoint it because my grandma she
- 7:43Speaker 1: knows a little bit about everything. So it's like her
- 7:46Speaker 1: personality depending on the conversation, she can talk to you
- 7:49Speaker 1: about this in this way, whether it's politics or sports,
- 7:53Speaker 1: you know, it's it's it's everything. It's like a like
- 7:56Speaker 1: a Malcolm person like she has every like all this
- 8:00Speaker 1: knowledge to you. Never know how that conversation is.
- 8:03Speaker 4: Yeah you know, yeah, I mean, but you still seem
- 8:06Speaker 4: very wise and charismatic and personable. So I would say,
- 8:11Speaker 4: I mean, from an outsider's perspective, it seems like you
- 8:13Speaker 4: inherit inherit to that you know, character characteristic.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Yeah. Actually, now I'm thinking about it, let me like, okay,
- 8:28Speaker 1: speaking of taking time, I would say patience is like
- 8:31Speaker 1: definitely something that I've gotten from her because a lot
- 8:34Speaker 1: of there's been like a lot of situations in my
- 8:36Speaker 1: life where I'm like, damn, like what the hell, like,
- 8:38Speaker 1: let you get this going. I'm trying to make something happen.
- 8:41Speaker 1: But you know, taking your time with everything or just
- 8:44Speaker 1: taking your time in life is like very important for
- 8:48Speaker 1: your mental health, like just for strength, just giving yourself
- 8:52Speaker 1: strength and space and time to figure out what you
- 8:55Speaker 1: want to do. And I think that that's what I
- 8:57Speaker 1: got from her, because some situation I'll see her in
- 9:01Speaker 1: and I'm like, how the hell you got the patience
- 9:03Speaker 1: for that? Because if I was in your shoes, I'll
- 9:06Speaker 1: be like, we're going to love Yeah, you know what
- 9:08Speaker 1: I mean. So to see how she has the patience
- 9:12Speaker 1: to some annoying times too, like some annoying ship that happens,
- 9:16Speaker 1: and have that patience in that strength, I think I
- 9:19Speaker 1: always say that, I definitely.
- 9:21Speaker 3: And I love that. I love patient people. Yeah, I
- 9:24Speaker 3: try to be there moments where it gets the best.
- 9:28Speaker 6: That you work on, you have to work on it
- 9:31Speaker 6: doesn't come.
- 9:31Speaker 3: Yeah, it's so good for you.
- 9:33Speaker 1: I'm still working on it.
- 9:36Speaker 4: Part of you becoming who you who you are if
- 9:39Speaker 4: you are working progress. So is there a favorite movie
- 9:42Speaker 4: that you that she's played in. Have you ever been
- 9:44Speaker 4: on set with her?
- 9:46Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 9:46Speaker 1: Actually, I have like faint memories of being on set
- 9:51Speaker 1: with her. Are just going to meet her on set,
- 9:53Speaker 1: but not really just hanging out there for a long time.
- 9:57Speaker 1: But my favorite movie that she's filmed, like I was
- 10:00Speaker 1: a young kid, it was this movie called Eddie and
- 10:04Speaker 1: she's like the basketball coach of the Knicks and she
- 10:06Speaker 1: like they call her from out the stands and then
- 10:09Speaker 1: she makes this freak through and it ends up coaching
- 10:11Speaker 1: the Knicks and they're going like this is run. Yeah.
- 10:14Speaker 1: That was my favorite movie like growing up because I
- 10:16Speaker 1: love basketball, So like that's what I.
- 10:19Speaker 3: You know what I mean, you got the New York Times.
- 10:23Speaker 1: I hear the New York That's like, I don't know
- 10:26Speaker 1: where that came from. I was probably my pops. He
- 10:28Speaker 1: from Jersey, Jersey.
- 10:30Speaker 5: So I have to say this, like your grandmother is
- 10:33Speaker 5: single handling the person that inspired me to become an actress.
- 10:37Speaker 5: Seeing the color purple growing up, that was when I
- 10:40Speaker 5: first saw it.
- 10:41Speaker 6: I saw her on TV and I was like, she
- 10:44Speaker 6: looks like me.
- 10:45Speaker 5: Yeah, And in that moment, I felt like I could
- 10:48Speaker 5: be on TV.
- 10:49Speaker 6: I could be an actor.
- 10:51Speaker 5: Wow, And I will never I mean, I've been a
- 10:54Speaker 5: huge fan.
- 10:54Speaker 6: I think she's hilarious.
- 10:56Speaker 5: I think she's one of the funniest entertainers that we
- 10:59Speaker 5: have she's a naw treasure. But what does she inspire
- 11:02Speaker 5: you to do? I mean, you had her in your house.
- 11:04Speaker 5: I saw her on her TV screen in the eighties, yeah,
- 11:07Speaker 5: ag myself. Maybe it was the nineties, You'll never know,
- 11:11Speaker 5: but anyways, but she inspired me to be who I
- 11:15Speaker 5: am today.
- 11:15Speaker 6: So what does she inspired you to be?
- 11:18Speaker 1: She inspired me to like, because all you see, like
- 11:20Speaker 1: my thing is music. I love making music and she
- 11:24Speaker 1: also like dabbled in the music space too, which I
- 11:27Speaker 1: didn't know.
- 11:29Speaker 4: I knows she's a renaissance woman like she literally does.
- 11:35Speaker 1: She doesn't like, she literally like everything. So you know,
- 11:40Speaker 1: I guess when I've moved out to New Jersey and
- 11:42Speaker 1: like staying with her and you know, making my music,
- 11:45Speaker 1: just my art itself has grown so much because she'll
- 11:48Speaker 1: be like, yo, listen to this album by this band
- 11:50Speaker 1: and tell me what you think.
- 11:52Speaker 7: You know what I mean?
- 11:52Speaker 1: And it's always that you know what I mean. It's
- 11:56Speaker 1: never like if I'm trying to make a change with
- 11:58Speaker 1: what I have going on. It's like she makes me
- 12:01Speaker 1: feel like I want to make a change, not like
- 12:04Speaker 1: you need to change, like you want to you should
- 12:07Speaker 1: do it this, but try it out like this, you
- 12:09Speaker 1: know what I mean, and like that story, like that
- 12:11Speaker 1: patience comes from too, because it's like, you know, you're
- 12:14Speaker 1: being so patient with me, you know, and I think
- 12:17Speaker 1: you can kind of see it in my eyes that
- 12:19Speaker 1: I'm kind of losing patience with myself or like with
- 12:22Speaker 1: my art, for say example, like this song or something
- 12:26Speaker 1: like that, and like I'm kind of losing my patience
- 12:29Speaker 1: with this and I don't know what to do. She's
- 12:31Speaker 1: just like, I mean, do what you love, do what
- 12:33Speaker 1: you feel is right, you know what I mean? You
- 12:35Speaker 1: know what it is like, you know what you want,
- 12:37Speaker 1: you know what you want to hear, you know, And
- 12:39Speaker 1: just having that somebody tell me that, not only just
- 12:42Speaker 1: because it's my grandmother, but you know somebody that's where
- 12:46Speaker 1: she's at, like the impact that she's made, and that's
- 12:49Speaker 1: her telling me that, you know. So I just I'm like,
- 12:53Speaker 1: if you're telling me that, then I can't stepping away
- 12:57Speaker 1: with myself anymore.
- 12:59Speaker 6: She is sister act.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Man, Like, oh my god, no, Like I seen sisters
- 13:07Speaker 1: so many times when you're.
- 13:10Speaker 4: Like scrolling through on like Hulu or and you see
- 13:14Speaker 4: one of her movies up, like how do you feel?
- 13:17Speaker 3: Like what feelings just overwhelm.
- 13:20Speaker 1: You that feels like it feels like not even real
- 13:24Speaker 1: sometimes because it's like it kind of feels like I'm
- 13:27Speaker 1: in this matrix or something, because it's like I know her, like.
- 13:30Speaker 3: How I experience like.
- 13:35Speaker 4: I'm related to her, like I'm part of her, like
- 13:38Speaker 4: I'm an extension of her.
- 13:39Speaker 1: And I could see all my family members faces in
- 13:42Speaker 1: her face.
- 13:43Speaker 3: I was just saying that Tomar. I was like, all
- 13:46Speaker 3: of you guys, I see I.
- 13:47Speaker 1: See her like it's it's her and and that's like
- 13:51Speaker 1: the trippiest thing. I remember one time because they had
- 13:54Speaker 1: a sister act on Netflix for a little bit, you know,
- 13:56Speaker 1: like when you don't touch a Netflix, it like kind
- 13:58Speaker 1: of goes to slow moos thing where it's like you
- 14:01Speaker 1: all the pictures and sister popped up on there. And
- 14:04Speaker 1: it was like three in the morning. I remember I
- 14:06Speaker 1: opened my eyes. I thought I was dreaming, like I'm like, yo,
- 14:14Speaker 1: somebody like I have to check my phone. I'm like
- 14:16Speaker 1: sign does she call me? But it's like I have
- 14:20Speaker 1: those times a lot, you know, going through Disney plush
- 14:22Speaker 1: and then you just see her face. It's it's super cool.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Often do you see her her?
- 14:30Speaker 1: Like damn it? Every other day? Every day because she
- 14:34Speaker 1: she loves to see the baby tea.
- 14:36Speaker 4: I mean we saw that she was talking about about
- 14:39Speaker 4: her on the view, so she's very proud.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Yeah she loves y. Yeah, it's insane, like it's like
- 14:48Speaker 1: you know, it's but I love like how much she
- 14:51Speaker 1: loves her too, because you know, uh, like my dad
- 14:54Speaker 1: too is like the same way where it's like they
- 14:56Speaker 1: see babies and they're like these are these are these
- 14:59Speaker 1: are this is God's of course this is but they
- 15:02Speaker 1: like they've done no wrong. They don't lie to you,
- 15:06Speaker 1: they don't like that's how they're not yelling at you.
- 15:11Speaker 4: Is Granny whoopee When she face times you, she's like,
- 15:14Speaker 4: macon it out the way for sure.
- 15:19Speaker 3: That's that's so that's so lovely.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Oh yeah to hear that, it's beautiful. It's really just
- 15:27Speaker 1: a beautiful time, Like just to be able to experience
- 15:31Speaker 1: this and like just seeing how my family has changed
- 15:34Speaker 1: so much, you know, like everybody kind of evolved because
- 15:37Speaker 1: I was the baby in my family for a long time,
- 15:40Speaker 1: you know, and now it's like I have a baby
- 15:44Speaker 1: and now that's everybody else's.
- 15:45Speaker 3: And not even just a baby.
- 15:46Speaker 4: You have a daughter, right and then you you have
- 15:49Speaker 4: such a powerful and iconic woman leading this charge in
- 15:55Speaker 4: the sense, and then now you have a daughter who
- 15:58Speaker 4: it's just it's it's so rare for especially black women,
- 16:01Speaker 4: to see someone as influential as your granny and influencing
- 16:06Speaker 4: and inspiring us. And now you have your daughter who
- 16:09Speaker 4: you can just kind of show her the reins and
- 16:12Speaker 4: you know who can see her and learn from her
- 16:15Speaker 4: obviously as she gets older.
- 16:16Speaker 3: So it's just it's a beautiful story for caring.
- 16:22Speaker 5: For just being a great representation.
- 16:24Speaker 6: Absolutely who she is and who you are.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 16:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:33Speaker 6: So let's talk about Mason as a kid. I'm curious
- 16:39Speaker 6: to know. Okay.
- 16:40Speaker 5: I always like the three words to describe yourself. So
- 16:43Speaker 5: if you have three words to describe yourself, what would
- 16:45Speaker 5: they be?
- 16:46Speaker 2: Uh?
- 16:47Speaker 1: Hyper? Hyper okay, athletic, Oh give myself that? And fast?
- 16:54Speaker 1: Yes I was. I don't know what it was, if
- 16:57Speaker 1: it was like my ADHD or something. But I was
- 16:59Speaker 1: always on move, like you couldn't catch me standing still.
- 17:03Speaker 1: I was always doing this, playing every sport.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Just what kind of.
- 17:10Speaker 6: Kid were you in school? Did you like school? Were
- 17:12Speaker 6: you were you outspoken for either class?
- 17:15Speaker 1: Yeah? I was saying school like I definitely was out spoken,
- 17:21Speaker 1: and I think that I made my teacher's life because
- 17:25Speaker 1: they would tell me, like, yo, be quiet. But I
- 17:27Speaker 1: would never really get in trouble because I was saying
- 17:31Speaker 1: some funny ship. I remember what I was saying, impeccable.
- 17:40Speaker 1: I was like, you know, uh, but when it came
- 17:43Speaker 1: down to actually like, oh damn, I gotta pass this
- 17:47Speaker 1: like class or then I would I would always pass
- 17:49Speaker 1: my classes. Uh, but I would. I would crack a joke,
- 17:53Speaker 1: you know, from here and there, and yeah, just super hyper.
- 17:58Speaker 6: And now I just made your you need things to do,
- 18:03Speaker 6: You're not challenged.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I just wanted something to do, you know, enough
- 18:10Speaker 1: going off? Yeah, I was like, we need more.
- 18:12Speaker 5: Staff, we need So I know that you were on
- 18:15Speaker 5: the East coast and now you're back on the West coast.
- 18:18Speaker 6: So were you raised on the East coast? Like where
- 18:20Speaker 6: were you? Where'd you grow up?
- 18:21Speaker 1: I grew up out here in l A. So like
- 18:23Speaker 1: I went to school in Santa Monica and hung around
- 18:27Speaker 1: like Venice a lot. We lived in the Palisades, you know,
- 18:31Speaker 1: and so like when the fires was happening, it was like,
- 18:34Speaker 1: what's happening right now? And I was on the East
- 18:36Speaker 1: coast at that time. So seeing all those fires was
- 18:39Speaker 1: kind of just like what the hell. I actually went
- 18:41Speaker 1: to the Palisades to go visit like where an old
- 18:44Speaker 1: house was, and that whole block was just untouched and
- 18:48Speaker 1: that's just insane, you know. Uh yeah, I, you know,
- 18:52Speaker 1: spend all my time out here and I just needed
- 18:55Speaker 1: to change the pace though. I figured, like, you know,
- 18:58Speaker 1: let me just go out there and experience the East
- 19:00Speaker 1: Coast a little bit, just like, you know, while I'm
- 19:02Speaker 1: still I'm here my in my twenties, like, let me,
- 19:05Speaker 1: I got energy. I'm out here ready to be outside
- 19:08Speaker 1: and meet people. And I feel like I was ready
- 19:12Speaker 1: for that like place in my mind to be like Okay,
- 19:15Speaker 1: let me start over, let me like meet new people,
- 19:19Speaker 1: let me find new places to hang out.
- 19:21Speaker 5: And yeah, so you have your signature locks, like do
- 19:27Speaker 5: your inspiration around and when did you first start them?
- 19:29Speaker 1: I first started to I will first, I will say that, yeah,
- 19:32Speaker 1: I will say that. She wasn't inspiration for me. Uh.
- 19:36Speaker 1: I wasn't like, Okay, I'm gonna grow my locks like
- 19:38Speaker 1: my grandmother though, because it was kind of like a defined,
- 19:42Speaker 1: define thing with my parents because they used to always
- 19:45Speaker 1: tell me, like, yo, brush your hair, like homb your hair.
- 19:49Speaker 1: And then by the time I got to like ninth grade,
- 19:51Speaker 1: tenth grade, I was like, nah, I ain't doing it
- 19:53Speaker 1: no more. I'm not gonna come you know what I mean.
- 19:56Speaker 1: I thought it was cool, and then it just started
- 19:59Speaker 1: growing and up. And once I started locking up, I
- 20:02Speaker 1: was like, okay, I'm here now, like you know, and
- 20:05Speaker 1: uh so I just kept.
- 20:06Speaker 5: You just committed to That was back in the day.
- 20:09Speaker 5: I mean having locks on TV.
- 20:11Speaker 6: That was I mean, that was a big thing started.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Yeah, she started that starting for sure. That's why I did. Like, no,
- 20:19Speaker 1: it was just my grandmother. It's just me and her.
- 20:21Speaker 4: That was.
- 20:22Speaker 3: That's a bold statement.
- 20:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I love it.
- 20:24Speaker 3: I love it.
- 20:25Speaker 5: So what were you into? You said you were athletic.
- 20:27Speaker 5: Did you play basketball? Were you in the sports? Like
- 20:29Speaker 5: what things were you interested in growing up?
- 20:30Speaker 7: Oh?
- 20:31Speaker 1: Basketball, Like I was like, I went to Michael Jordan basketball.
- 20:37Speaker 3: Man.
- 20:38Speaker 1: I was a shooting guard. Okay, yeah, I was on
- 20:42Speaker 1: my my favorite player, Kobe for sure. Yeah, Kobe, because
- 20:45Speaker 1: I mean, you know, being from l A And then
- 20:48Speaker 1: I was born in ninety eight. So by the two thousands,
- 20:51Speaker 1: two thousand, the Lakers was just winning championship.
- 20:54Speaker 6: It was a great year.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Yeah great, yeah, yeah, that's like so that was a
- 20:59Speaker 1: good you know, like a good introduction to basketball for me.
- 21:03Speaker 1: And then you know, going around and watching him play.
- 21:07Speaker 1: I used to go to school and try to do
- 21:08Speaker 1: all the moves like him, all to turn.
- 21:10Speaker 4: Around and I was doing that.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Through the hallway.
- 21:19Speaker 3: I can see it.
- 21:21Speaker 5: So you never have aspirations to be on film or
- 21:26Speaker 5: in the movie industry.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Well, I feel like I feel like, deep down everybody
- 21:31Speaker 1: kind of has like that little you know, like if
- 21:33Speaker 1: you watch a good enough movie, you're gonna be like, damn,
- 21:37Speaker 1: this person looks so big on the screen and they're
- 21:41Speaker 1: so empowering, like it makes you want to like kind
- 21:44Speaker 1: of envision yourself being there. But I never really had
- 21:48Speaker 1: like aspirations for it, you know. But I have been
- 21:52Speaker 1: kind of getting into the acting world recently, and like
- 21:55Speaker 1: I've been taking acting classes just to you know, just
- 21:59Speaker 1: to kind of know, just to try it out the
- 22:01Speaker 1: opportunity presents hisself.
- 22:03Speaker 6: You have a great look, you really do. You have
- 22:05Speaker 6: a great look.
- 22:07Speaker 1: I'll be so down, like I would love to do it,
- 22:10Speaker 1: and you know, just to be able to I have
- 22:13Speaker 1: fun with it, like you know, going through practicing reading scripts,
- 22:16Speaker 1: with my teacher and just kind of doing it like
- 22:19Speaker 1: it's it's fun, Like, yeah, I enjoy it.
- 22:22Speaker 5: I have a fun fact. Your brother's film Till I
- 22:26Speaker 5: was an extra.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Really are you serious?
- 22:30Speaker 3: We went to that premiere.
- 22:31Speaker 5: I went to Atlanta and I saw when it came out,
- 22:34Speaker 5: like I heard that it was it was coming out
- 22:36Speaker 5: because I watched. I can't remember the young man's film
- 22:39Speaker 5: that the young men's name that played till his name,
- 22:42Speaker 5: I know he was in All American.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Yeah, brilliant kid.
- 22:46Speaker 5: I can't remember his name off the top of my head,
- 22:47Speaker 5: but he was great. When when I saw that he
- 22:49Speaker 5: was happening, I was like, oh my gosh, I have
- 22:51Speaker 5: to be in this film.
- 22:51Speaker 6: I have to be in it.
- 22:52Speaker 5: I don't care if I'm being an extra. And I
- 22:55Speaker 5: tried and try to try. I got on the last
- 22:57Speaker 5: day as an extra, and I will happy as a clam.
- 23:01Speaker 6: That's amazing to be a part of that film.
- 23:04Speaker 1: I always like.
- 23:06Speaker 5: And she was talking about how long it took her
- 23:08Speaker 5: to to get the film made and I learned so
- 23:12Speaker 5: much even and that was when I was, you know,
- 23:14Speaker 5: getting back into acting. But I said, I was like,
- 23:16Speaker 5: I don't care what it takes I'm gonna get on
- 23:17Speaker 5: this set. And the last day of filming, I got
- 23:20Speaker 5: on as an extra and I'm happy. I was happy
- 23:24Speaker 5: to be there as an extra. We froze our butts
- 23:27Speaker 5: off outside Atlanta. But it was it was great and
- 23:30Speaker 5: I love the finished film. It was amazing. So you
- 23:35Speaker 5: have everything you need to do and be.
- 23:38Speaker 6: You know what I'm saying. If you want to do acting,
- 23:40Speaker 6: do it.
- 23:40Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 23:41Speaker 5: Again, she inspires me, like literally, that's that's that's real amazing.
- 23:46Speaker 5: So when did the music come into play? You were
- 23:48Speaker 5: into sports and things like that, but then now you're
- 23:50Speaker 5: into music, and we're going to get into your music
- 23:52Speaker 5: as a whole. But usually when we're talking to guests,
- 23:56Speaker 5: glimmers of themselves happened when they're kids, and so we
- 23:59Speaker 5: just kind of like walk people through who you are
- 24:01Speaker 5: as a kid and then and who you are as
- 24:03Speaker 5: an adult.
- 24:04Speaker 6: So there was music in you then or was it
- 24:08Speaker 6: later on? What did that happen?
- 24:11Speaker 1: So okay, I got the whole.
- 24:17Speaker 3: My little I want to hear this.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Story, all right. So on a stormy day right now,
- 24:30Speaker 1: I was so when I was younger, when I was
- 24:33Speaker 1: about like probably six or seven, years old, I would
- 24:38Speaker 1: take piano lessons. But this man, his name is John Flucker.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Shout out to him, uh, because he used to give
- 24:45Speaker 1: my mom vocal lessons and he also was like wizard
- 24:49Speaker 1: on the piano. So growing up, I would take these
- 24:52Speaker 1: piano lessons and always be like, I don't want to
- 24:55Speaker 1: do this anymore. I want to play basketball. And then
- 24:58Speaker 1: my mom and my god father we're both like, yo,
- 25:01Speaker 1: you gotta just stick with it and just see what happens.
- 25:05Speaker 1: And by the time I turned fourteen, I started making beats,
- 25:08Speaker 1: Like I started teaching myself how to make beats. And
- 25:12Speaker 1: I saw this documentary when I was fourteen. It was
- 25:15Speaker 1: a social boy documentary and it was like just about
- 25:18Speaker 1: his career and stuff like at that time, you know,
- 25:21Speaker 1: like Sojia boy was you know, the bape shoes and
- 25:24Speaker 1: like the I really had a.
- 25:26Speaker 4: Brand, so really underestimate him.
- 25:30Speaker 3: But yes, so I understand that, you know what I mean, Like.
- 25:36Speaker 1: For that era too, just like music and YouTube coming
- 25:39Speaker 1: together with music, so it felt like anything was possible,
- 25:44Speaker 1: you know, if that's what I want to do, because
- 25:46Speaker 1: I still want to play basketball. Then when I was
- 25:49Speaker 1: in high school, I was like dating this girl and
- 25:52Speaker 1: then this guy was trying to get with my girl,
- 25:56Speaker 1: so I wrote a dis track to him. But it's
- 25:59Speaker 1: like crazy because if I listen to the disc tract now,
- 26:02Speaker 1: I'm like, yo, this is crazy that. I even was
- 26:05Speaker 1: like I have to write this and record this. And
- 26:08Speaker 1: at the time, I used to burn like all the
- 26:10Speaker 1: songs that I would make onto a CD and he
- 26:17Speaker 1: was gonna watch this.
- 26:21Speaker 3: Yeah you crime and.
- 26:28Speaker 1: Used to make mixtapes and stuff, so that was my thing,
- 26:33Speaker 1: like because before it was like we had iPhones. But
- 26:36Speaker 1: I still just that's just what I did. I don't know,
- 26:39Speaker 1: like that was just something I did. And I had
- 26:42Speaker 1: this one disc and I like showed it to my friends.
- 26:45Speaker 1: Then they took the disc and then they were like
- 26:47Speaker 1: passing around to other people so that other people were
- 26:49Speaker 1: hearing this song. And I was kind of like, you
- 26:52Speaker 1: know what, I want to write more music if it's
- 26:54Speaker 1: like that, you know what I mean. And it's like
- 26:56Speaker 1: people were reacting to this, and I was kind of
- 26:59Speaker 1: just in our feelings are just having fun, yeah the
- 27:02Speaker 1: case maybe, And I had like hmm, I had a good,
- 27:06Speaker 1: like you know, reception to that, and I just kept
- 27:09Speaker 1: staying sticking with it and keep going.
- 27:11Speaker 4: So is it the the the ability to storytell that
- 27:16Speaker 4: I guess drives your love for music or do you
- 27:20Speaker 4: find it to be therapeutic because you mentioned the take, Yeah,
- 27:24Speaker 4: so is that what it is that drives you to
- 27:27Speaker 4: want to pursue this.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely, it's it's the therapeutic part of it, because
- 27:32Speaker 1: you know, when that happened, I was fourteen years old,
- 27:35Speaker 1: and it's like, now I'm getting to the point I
- 27:37Speaker 1: turned twenty eight this year, so get into that going
- 27:41Speaker 1: to different parts of my life where music saved me,
- 27:44Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Like and I actually was
- 27:45Speaker 1: able to use that as like a journal entry, as
- 27:48Speaker 1: a diary instead of being like, oh, I'm just doing
- 27:50Speaker 1: this to be cool, and like you know, I get
- 27:52Speaker 1: all the girls, we get all the money. You actually
- 27:55Speaker 1: like go through life and see that point in your
- 27:57Speaker 1: life where you're like, Okay, this is what's hell helping
- 28:00Speaker 1: me the most, you know what I mean, Because everybody's
- 28:02Speaker 1: always like, man, you can talk to me about it.
- 28:04Speaker 1: You can. Sometimes I don't feel like doing that, And
- 28:06Speaker 1: the only thing that I really need right now is myself. Yeah,
- 28:09Speaker 1: and I just need to sit with myself and my thoughts,
- 28:11Speaker 1: get this out in like the amount of times I
- 28:13Speaker 1: had to do that and still do it.
- 28:15Speaker 4: You know.
- 28:16Speaker 1: That's what inspires me the most to keep, you know,
- 28:19Speaker 1: keep writing.
- 28:20Speaker 5: Sitting with yourself that is something that people who are
- 28:24Speaker 5: in their forties fifty sixties do not know.
- 28:26Speaker 3: How to do well.
- 28:27Speaker 4: And men, right, so men, particularly black men, talking about
- 28:33Speaker 4: being able to sit with yourself, that's not something that
- 28:36Speaker 4: you guys know.
- 28:36Speaker 1: How Yeah, oh yeah, definitely, that's like, yeah, that part
- 28:42Speaker 1: because and like you know, I think about it often
- 28:46Speaker 1: more now, you know, because like having a daughter and
- 28:50Speaker 1: then you have to think about you know, even if
- 28:53Speaker 1: I'm not feeling like this today, I can't break down,
- 28:56Speaker 1: you know, I can't. I can't like really do that
- 29:00Speaker 1: or like shut myself out anymore. So it's like you
- 29:03Speaker 1: have to have that outlet, yeah, to be able to
- 29:06Speaker 1: kind of let off that s theme or all that stress.
- 29:09Speaker 1: So like music being there for me in that area
- 29:11Speaker 1: of my life is like really important and I appreciate that,
- 29:14Speaker 1: you know a lot.
- 29:15Speaker 5: So would you feel like that was where you feel
- 29:17Speaker 5: the most like yourself in your music?
- 29:19Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely, cause it's like, you know, I don't never
- 29:23Speaker 1: think about music as like okay, like all these people
- 29:27Speaker 1: are gonna listen to this, or like these people are
- 29:29Speaker 1: gonna hear this, or it's gonna leave beyond these four walls. Yeah,
- 29:33Speaker 1: when I'm in those four walls, it's like all that
- 29:35Speaker 1: matters is what's happening in those four walls. You know,
- 29:38Speaker 1: you can pull ideas and do this from whatever is
- 29:41Speaker 1: going on on the outside, but in that room is
- 29:45Speaker 1: in how you're feeling. Like if you singing or rapping,
- 29:49Speaker 1: or you yelling or you crying, whatever is going on,
- 29:53Speaker 1: you have the opportunity to put that, like on record.
- 29:57Speaker 1: And that's so cool to me because like twenty years
- 29:59Speaker 1: from now, thirty years now, it's still gonna be there
- 30:02Speaker 1: and that's that's so cool.
- 30:04Speaker 4: So, what's been your proudest moment in your music industry
- 30:07Speaker 4: so far?
- 30:08Speaker 1: Damn, my proudest moment. Yeah, I'm really trying to think.
- 30:14Speaker 1: I always say, uh. When I shot my my music
- 30:19Speaker 1: video for Blue Stainless was definitely a moment that I
- 30:22Speaker 1: was really proud of because it felt like I was like, Damn,
- 30:26Speaker 1: I'm doing this right now, Like you know, seeing the
- 30:29Speaker 1: whole setup with the cameras and seeing you know, yourself
- 30:32Speaker 1: on camera and seeing the whole team of videographers just
- 30:36Speaker 1: standing around being like all right, we're gonna put him
- 30:38Speaker 1: over here and he's gonna do this, and you just
- 30:40Speaker 1: sit back like damn.
- 30:42Speaker 3: M for you.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Yeah, like that that was like a proud moment. I
- 30:47Speaker 1: feel like I had, Like I've had moments that it's
- 30:50Speaker 1: like just not coming into my mind right now because
- 30:54Speaker 1: it could have been from like a minute ago. Yeah,
- 30:56Speaker 1: and I just can't like it doesn't come to my
- 30:59Speaker 1: mind right now, but definitely in more recent time will
- 31:02Speaker 1: be that blue standing.
- 31:03Speaker 4: So when you were in your music video, you're standing
- 31:06Speaker 4: there and you're like, this is Mason's moment. Yeah, did
- 31:09Speaker 4: you feel like, you know, because we'll get into the
- 31:12Speaker 4: pressure and the expectation, but did you feel like a
- 31:14Speaker 4: sense of empowerment that you were doing something for yourself
- 31:18Speaker 4: outside of your grandmother?
- 31:22Speaker 1: Yeah? Definitely. I feel like like when you are standing
- 31:26Speaker 1: there and you're like, all right, we're about to do this.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Take ye, then you have that moment where you're like,
- 31:32Speaker 1: this is really this is really my shit, right, this
- 31:35Speaker 1: is really me, Like I can't believe that, Like this
- 31:37Speaker 1: is so cool because you think about back to when
- 31:40Speaker 1: you're a kid, you know, and you're like, you know,
- 31:43Speaker 1: you set these goals for yourself, Like I want to
- 31:44Speaker 1: make music when I'm this age, Like if I could
- 31:48Speaker 1: be in that moment and then like my little kids
- 31:50Speaker 1: self could see me in that moment, That's what I
- 31:53Speaker 1: think about, you know what I mean. So, and like
- 31:56Speaker 1: with my grandmother, it's like I know that this is
- 31:59Speaker 1: what she wanted me to do. You know, she wants
- 32:02Speaker 1: to see me in my in my moment, doing my things.
- 32:06Speaker 6: Yeah, so who's her favorite grandchild?
- 32:08Speaker 5: You can tell you I would Hey, I don't know.
- 32:15Speaker 1: I feel like in flex she wastes a little bit
- 32:17Speaker 1: on the day. It depends on the day exact right, Yeah, yeah,
- 32:21Speaker 1: exactly exactly.
- 32:23Speaker 3: But you are the only.
- 32:23Speaker 4: Boy, Yeah, yeah, I do have a different part to
- 32:28Speaker 4: the heart, you know. So what do you want people
- 32:31Speaker 4: to feel when they hear your music? Like what I
- 32:33Speaker 4: guess if there's there's a rapper out there, now, who
- 32:36Speaker 4: do you resemble the mouse? Or you're like, I'm just
- 32:40Speaker 4: Mason Dean, Yeah, one.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Of the At this point, I feel like I did,
- 32:44Speaker 1: you know, when I was younger, I was trying to
- 32:46Speaker 1: like resemble different rappers are just taking They would inspire
- 32:50Speaker 1: me a lot, you know, And I feel like with
- 32:53Speaker 1: just all of that going back from like my parents
- 32:56Speaker 1: playing me, you know, nineties hip hop and then up
- 33:00Speaker 1: into two thousands and just hearing all that music and
- 33:03Speaker 1: you got the twenty tens, you know, yeah, and then
- 33:06Speaker 1: so it's like there's so many different eras of music
- 33:09Speaker 1: that I was just I was there for, like I
- 33:11Speaker 1: was able to experience that. I feel like I'm just
- 33:15Speaker 1: kind of in the boat where I'm like, I'm just
- 33:17Speaker 1: gonna do whatever, you know. So I don't know, you know,
- 33:21Speaker 1: maybe one day I'm feeling like singing, the other day
- 33:24Speaker 1: I'm feeling like rapping. I don't really know.
- 33:26Speaker 6: So how would you describe your music?
- 33:29Speaker 1: I would describe it. I tried to go for the
- 33:32Speaker 1: cinematic approach, like because I do want to score films
- 33:36Speaker 1: in the future, you know, like I do want to,
- 33:38Speaker 1: Like that's a goal that I've had since I was
- 33:41Speaker 1: in high school, and you know, like talking about like
- 33:44Speaker 1: movies and stuff like that's how I watch movies, and
- 33:47Speaker 1: that's what made movies feel so big to me was
- 33:49Speaker 1: always the music. So I always was like, you know,
- 33:52Speaker 1: instead of being in front of the camera, like I
- 33:54Speaker 1: want to make that song, you know, I want to
- 33:55Speaker 1: I want to score that, you know, I mean, yeah,
- 33:59Speaker 1: that's like I always wanted to do that. So I
- 34:01Speaker 1: always take that approach because if I could make a song,
- 34:06Speaker 1: and if you're not, if I didn't make a visual
- 34:09Speaker 1: or you're not seeing a visual, you have to base
- 34:11Speaker 1: everything off of like your ears and then painting a
- 34:14Speaker 1: picture for somebody that's listening, which is kind of like damn,
- 34:18Speaker 1: how am I gonna do that? And the only way
- 34:20Speaker 1: I can is by building it as if you're in
- 34:23Speaker 1: an environment like to hear it, you know, like I
- 34:27Speaker 1: like to throw a lot of like birds chirping or
- 34:29Speaker 1: the waves crouds because it feels like you're somewhere instead
- 34:33Speaker 1: of like you're just listening to somebody's song. It's like
- 34:35Speaker 1: I'm sitting on the beach listening to this song, or
- 34:38Speaker 1: like I'm in the car listening to this song, you know,
- 34:41Speaker 1: kind of painting out that vision.
- 34:43Speaker 4: So what does success in your music career look like?
- 34:46Speaker 4: And where can people find your music?
- 34:49Speaker 3: Where can people?
- 34:50Speaker 1: Well, you can find my music is Mason Dean on
- 34:53Speaker 1: Apple Music, Spotify, title Pandora Radio. I don't know all
- 35:00Speaker 1: the streaming platforms and uh so, like I forgot the
- 35:08Speaker 1: second part of question. I'm sorry, just what what.
- 35:10Speaker 3: Does success look like for you and your music career?
- 35:13Speaker 1: Yeah, well, definitely success. It's just to keep doing what
- 35:17Speaker 1: I'm doing for sure, and keep creating and keeping that
- 35:21Speaker 1: authenticity to my sound, to my art and not trying
- 35:25Speaker 1: to kind of keep myself in a bubble in a
- 35:27Speaker 1: box and like continue to listen to new music and
- 35:31Speaker 1: continue to be inspired and giving myself that space to
- 35:35Speaker 1: do that, because I feel like sometimes as artists, you
- 35:39Speaker 1: could be hard on yourself and then you start comparing
- 35:41Speaker 1: yourself to everything that comes on the radio because you
- 35:44Speaker 1: think that, oh, that's how I'm supposed to sound for
- 35:48Speaker 1: my music to you know what I mean. So I
- 35:49Speaker 1: think that just creating ideas that's new to me, you
- 35:54Speaker 1: know what I mean, to the point where I want
- 35:56Speaker 1: to keep hearing it, Like, yeah, you know.
- 35:58Speaker 3: Who is staying to yourself besides your music?
- 36:03Speaker 6: Who are you listening to? It's in your playlist?
- 36:05Speaker 1: In my playlist, it's a mix I got I do have.
- 36:10Speaker 1: This is artist named Michael Franks. Throw back right there.
- 36:14Speaker 1: He had this song called Lotus Blossom. That's why I
- 36:16Speaker 1: named my daughter Lotus because of this song.
- 36:20Speaker 3: I hope he watches this I hope if he's.
- 36:23Speaker 1: Watching the show together a concert soon. But I love
- 36:29Speaker 1: I love him. I got future on there Drake and
- 36:32Speaker 1: Kandreck because I don't understand what.
- 36:35Speaker 3: We can against.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I just love both. And I listened to like
- 36:41Speaker 1: a lot of jazz music too, because that kind of
- 36:43Speaker 1: just yeah, that's like my kind reggae waves to, like,
- 36:49Speaker 1: you know, just kind of chilling acrobats. Yeah, oh yeah,
- 36:53Speaker 1: I love afrobeats, That's yeah, I love that. And I
- 36:55Speaker 1: love making afrobeats too. Yeah, that's like that's the most fun.
- 37:00Speaker 1: And I feel like that's the music where I feel
- 37:02Speaker 1: the most free writing it too, because I'm not really
- 37:04Speaker 1: thinking of I'm just feeling.
- 37:06Speaker 3: You know, it's the beats and the vibe, like I
- 37:08Speaker 3: love afro beats.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I love it.
- 37:11Speaker 3: Were you a versus guy? Did you watch that?
- 37:13Speaker 4: You?
- 37:13Speaker 3: When was that?
- 37:14Speaker 5: Was that COVID during Ano they're starting to reduce.
- 37:17Speaker 4: Its watch it?
- 37:20Speaker 1: I I was watching those live. I was I like that,
- 37:24Speaker 1: you know. I just I love that the music industry
- 37:27Speaker 1: didn't really stop, Like you still got to see like
- 37:30Speaker 1: the artists that you love still doing what they love
- 37:34Speaker 1: in a more intimate setting. That was cool, you know.
- 37:37Speaker 8: Yeah, your dream like to work with, to work with
- 37:43Speaker 8: or the feature for feature or either way, whether you're
- 37:48Speaker 8: producing or you're the artist yourself, love to work with.
- 37:51Speaker 1: I would love to work with Stevie Wonder because I
- 37:54Speaker 1: feel like, you know, all his songs are incredible. I
- 38:00Speaker 1: never heard a bad Stevie Wonder song. I got to
- 38:02Speaker 1: see him perform live and he is His voice is amazing.
- 38:07Speaker 1: The way he played the piano is incredible, like what harmonica.
- 38:11Speaker 6: He can do any anything, anything.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Everything and anything. So to be in a studio with
- 38:16Speaker 1: somebody like that, and on top of that, he just
- 38:18Speaker 1: seemed like a like a cool guy. When he was
- 38:21Speaker 1: talking to everybody, he just seemed like, you know, he's like,
- 38:24Speaker 1: we're all in this room together, We're all sharing the
- 38:27Speaker 1: same energy. I want to be in a studio with you, Wow,
- 38:30Speaker 1: somebody that has that energy and you know, but also
- 38:33Speaker 1: is making it just incredible music, you know and inspiring
- 38:37Speaker 1: me to you know, instead of making this cored this small,
- 38:41Speaker 1: open it up like this, you know, like having that
- 38:44Speaker 1: you know that, yeah, that mentorship is everything. Yeah yeah, Well.
- 38:49Speaker 4: I mean you choosing Stevie Wonder is honestly not surprising,
- 38:53Speaker 4: Like you have been surrounded by classic people, just choosing
- 38:59Speaker 4: Stevie Wonder on brand because that's all you know, appreciate
- 39:04Speaker 4: you appreciate timeless people and people who will have legacies
- 39:08Speaker 4: that us.
- 39:11Speaker 3: You know, so good for you.
- 39:14Speaker 6: I love it.
- 39:15Speaker 3: You'll want to play some games.
- 39:17Speaker 5: Let's do a game. Okay, So this one is called
- 39:19Speaker 5: this or that. I'm gonna give you two options, and
- 39:22Speaker 5: you and Mariah are gonna choose.
- 39:23Speaker 3: This or that.
- 39:24Speaker 5: You answer to all three of us three Okay, so
- 39:27Speaker 5: it's called this or that. Here we go homebody or outside.
- 39:35Speaker 1: Homebody. I'd say this.
- 39:41Speaker 3: I'm gonna do the home body. Homebody.
- 39:43Speaker 6: Definitely, movies or music.
- 39:51Speaker 3: You can't do.
- 39:55Speaker 1: That's tough. I'm gonna go. I'm gonna go with music.
- 39:59Speaker 5: Okay, Yeah, I'm gonna go with movies. But I think
- 40:05Speaker 5: I'm gonna do movies too.
- 40:07Speaker 3: But it is.
- 40:08Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 40:09Speaker 1: Wait, so if you're watching it, if there's movies or music, right,
- 40:13Speaker 1: if you're watching the movie, is all the music out
- 40:16Speaker 1: the movie?
- 40:16Speaker 6: No, you can't have a movie without music.
- 40:19Speaker 1: That would be you can't.
- 40:20Speaker 4: But don't they have a lot of That's a genre, right,
- 40:23Speaker 4: haven't isn't it don't they?
- 40:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going to movies.
- 40:26Speaker 7: Too.
- 40:27Speaker 6: Yeah, they have silent movies.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Yeah, but they have music in it.
- 40:31Speaker 4: I mean sometimes in the silent movies, I think it's
- 40:34Speaker 4: completely it's just it's just really it's acting, right, No, what.
- 40:41Speaker 1: The piano?
- 40:43Speaker 3: No words? Yeah, that's what silent like.
- 40:49Speaker 6: But not like today though, right, Okay.
- 40:52Speaker 3: That way never fly to me?
- 40:54Speaker 5: Okay, yeah, soundtrack, I mean it's it's moves, the.
- 41:01Speaker 6: Plot, it is the tone of the movie.
- 41:03Speaker 5: Yeah, no, absolutely. That's why I chose movies because I
- 41:06Speaker 5: can have.
- 41:07Speaker 1: Both, Yes.
- 41:09Speaker 6: Things smarter planning or spontaneous.
- 41:15Speaker 1: Spontaneous, But can I explain if that defeats? All right?
- 41:27Speaker 1: And I would say that because actually I gonna let
- 41:33Speaker 1: you pick here, and I'm like, conjure up.
- 41:35Speaker 4: Okay, got so I'm saying planning because I'm a mommy. Okay,
- 41:40Speaker 4: So that's why I can't really do the whole spontaneous
- 41:43Speaker 4: thing anymore with a toddler.
- 41:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it just doesn't work.
- 41:46Speaker 5: What about your I'm gonna be spontaneous. Yes, that's I
- 41:51Speaker 5: would like to do more planning and be a person
- 41:53Speaker 5: that plans plans to the t.
- 41:55Speaker 6: But I'm working on it. I'm still working on it.
- 41:59Speaker 1: I'm definitely you're going yeah, spontaneous. I just like the
- 42:04Speaker 1: just the surprise that stuff. Like, of course, it has
- 42:05Speaker 1: to be a little bit of planning, and I can't
- 42:07Speaker 1: just wake up, like what's up, what we're doing. Like
- 42:10Speaker 1: if I'm like, okay, if I'm I gotta be over
- 42:12Speaker 1: here on this side of town by six pm, now,
- 42:16Speaker 1: whatever happens past six pm on that side of town,
- 42:19Speaker 1: I don't have to plan it. But I just know
- 42:21Speaker 1: I just got to be over there. So it's like
- 42:23Speaker 1: a mixture both. But I like the spontaneous.
- 42:25Speaker 6: Okay, I got you. Are you a thrill seeker?
- 42:28Speaker 1: No, If the thriller is there, then hey, I'm having
- 42:33Speaker 1: a good time. I'm not looking for it.
- 42:36Speaker 3: But if it's knocking at your door.
- 42:37Speaker 1: You go in. I might like look through the hole
- 42:41Speaker 1: to make sure. I like this.
- 42:46Speaker 5: Next one, sneakers are slides.
- 42:49Speaker 1: I'm going sneakers, niers or crocs. I love cross the hard.
- 43:00Speaker 1: I love I'm near for the cross.
- 43:06Speaker 5: Okay, texting or calling, texting, real texting or FaceTime face timing.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Oh, I like a face time. I like it depends
- 43:18Speaker 1: on the.
- 43:19Speaker 4: Okay, So I was going to say that it depends
- 43:21Speaker 4: on the person. But I'm a facetimer. Smar and I
- 43:25Speaker 4: FaceTime all day every day, but I do agree it
- 43:28Speaker 4: depends on the person.
- 43:29Speaker 5: Texting words me out. I like, I'd rather either FaceTime,
- 43:33Speaker 5: I mean calling.
- 43:34Speaker 6: It depends on who you are.
- 43:35Speaker 5: But texting over calling. I want to I want to
- 43:38Speaker 5: call because I don't want.
- 43:39Speaker 6: To sit just sit and text too much. Yeah, you
- 43:42Speaker 6: know what I'm trying to.
- 43:42Speaker 5: Yeah, so yeah, early mornings or late nights.
- 43:48Speaker 1: Mm hmm, now early mornings. I do like the early
- 43:54Speaker 1: mornings because I have it feels like it's like two
- 43:57Speaker 1: days in winter instead of like I guess that's that's
- 44:01Speaker 1: what happens, like since I had a daughter, Like that's
- 44:05Speaker 1: what it.
- 44:05Speaker 4: Is morning that you do?
- 44:11Speaker 6: You have a morning routine that you do every day?
- 44:13Speaker 3: Yeah, ritual?
- 44:14Speaker 1: Yeah, Like I just drink like a big ass bottle
- 44:18Speaker 1: of water and that right there is enough, Like right there,
- 44:22Speaker 1: I'm I'm up and there, you know, hopping the shower,
- 44:24Speaker 1: listens to some music and drink some more water and
- 44:28Speaker 1: keep drinking water, and it starts to day.
- 44:32Speaker 4: You know what I mean when they go, oh sorry,
- 44:36Speaker 4: I was gonna ask early mornings or late night. Okay,
- 44:40Speaker 4: look I'm existing right now because you'll know once your
- 44:45Speaker 4: baby gets Toddler era.
- 44:48Speaker 3: But late nights for me, I'm up. You're up, That's
- 44:52Speaker 3: what I'm saying. I'm up. I do not here.
- 44:56Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 44:58Speaker 6: Time difference, Yeah, like she's up sending me runs.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Right.
- 45:06Speaker 5: What about to late nights. I'm not an early person.
- 45:10Speaker 5: Like if I have to for work or something, I'll
- 45:12Speaker 5: get up, But like late.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Nights, Yeah, I get that. I get that.
- 45:16Speaker 6: Ye, you have one more?
- 45:18Speaker 3: Do you have anyone on your list?
- 45:19Speaker 6: This is the last?
- 45:21Speaker 3: Just because I love this.
- 45:23Speaker 6: It's Michelle.
- 45:23Speaker 4: Obama has been trying to teach us that when they
- 45:27Speaker 4: go low.
- 45:29Speaker 3: We go high. Are you going low? I mean, are
- 45:32Speaker 3: you going high? Are you going lower? When they go low?
- 45:35Speaker 1: I'm going high because there's no bad cart. I mean
- 45:39Speaker 1: like if you're if you're going low, you find fire.
- 45:43Speaker 1: With fire, it's just gonna be a bigger fire. And
- 45:45Speaker 1: now even if the fire wasn't, like if your house
- 45:47Speaker 1: wasn't on fire, now your house is on fire because
- 45:50Speaker 1: you didn't you know what I mean, live next door
- 45:53Speaker 1: to somebody with a house.
- 45:56Speaker 6: Just grow up.
- 46:00Speaker 4: Sure, I got it.
- 46:04Speaker 1: And that's I feel like, that's more if you really
- 46:06Speaker 1: taking like I'm trying to be disrespectful, I feel like
- 46:10Speaker 1: even taking the high road is the most disrespectful you
- 46:12Speaker 1: can be to somebody if you're trying to be that person,
- 46:15Speaker 1: because it's like I'm doing better then you know, whatever
- 46:19Speaker 1: you got going on down there, I'm over here with it.
- 46:22Speaker 1: You know.
- 46:22Speaker 3: I love that.
- 46:23Speaker 4: I just I love your the way that you're thinking.
- 46:26Speaker 4: Thank you. Right, So you grew up around someone who
- 46:32Speaker 4: the world knows, and naturally people now think that they
- 46:36Speaker 4: know who you are, right? So do people assume things
- 46:40Speaker 4: about you because of who your grandma is? Were there
- 46:43Speaker 4: any expectations that you set for yourself where you felt
- 46:47Speaker 4: like other people had for you.
- 46:50Speaker 1: I think, uh, one thing that people used to always
- 46:54Speaker 1: think about me like growing up was that for some reason,
- 46:58Speaker 1: like I'm really big into fashion and I'm not. I
- 47:00Speaker 1: just like wearing was comfortable to me. But I think
- 47:03Speaker 1: a lot of people thought that I really cared about that,
- 47:06Speaker 1: or like I really was like, oh, I really care
- 47:08Speaker 1: about how I look and flashy things exactly like and
- 47:13Speaker 1: I never really did. I just kind of always been
- 47:16Speaker 1: the same person that I am not even before I
- 47:19Speaker 1: had my daughter, I always kind of just in my
- 47:22Speaker 1: own world with stuff. I always picked comfort over all
- 47:25Speaker 1: the difficult stuff. So I think that's like one thing
- 47:29Speaker 1: that was always like kind of weird. People try to
- 47:33Speaker 1: assume that they know my personality because I don't really
- 47:36Speaker 1: post like a lot on my Instagram with like me
- 47:39Speaker 1: talking and like doing interviews too often. But so I
- 47:42Speaker 1: don't really have like there's a lens that people don't
- 47:45Speaker 1: see like when it comes to me. So I feel
- 47:48Speaker 1: like because I do rap in because of who my
- 47:51Speaker 1: grandmother is, people assume that I live a certain lifestyle
- 47:54Speaker 1: that I don't really live, or like that I'm like into,
- 47:59Speaker 1: like you know, being all up in the clubs and
- 48:02Speaker 1: doing all this stuff, and that's like not the life
- 48:05Speaker 1: that I live at all. And yeah, I guess like
- 48:10Speaker 1: social media could perceive make your life look a whole
- 48:14Speaker 1: lot different. Thing is I could be shoot a music
- 48:17Speaker 1: video and have all my chains on and like it
- 48:20Speaker 1: looks like that's just how I.
- 48:21Speaker 4: Walk around, you know, that's my personality.
- 48:24Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think that's like kind of why I
- 48:27Speaker 1: try to just I don't really use social media that
- 48:31Speaker 1: much as much as I did before, but I kind
- 48:35Speaker 1: of try to keep my piece in between or just
- 48:38Speaker 1: like my life and then whatever's happening on social media. Yeah,
- 48:42Speaker 1: kind of separate, but like still showing people what's going
- 48:46Speaker 1: on in my life without like trying to use it
- 48:49Speaker 1: all the time, because I have family and friends on
- 48:53Speaker 1: there that I don't really talk to you like that.
- 48:54Speaker 1: So it's like I do post for them, and you know,
- 48:57Speaker 1: people that listen to my music, I post for them,
- 49:00Speaker 1: and but.
- 49:01Speaker 5: It's not all incompassing life and you're not always trying
- 49:04Speaker 5: to get content exactly.
- 49:06Speaker 1: Yeah, once I post and I'm putting my phone away
- 49:08Speaker 1: and then I'm going to just like, you're level I
- 49:11Speaker 1: think so. I think literally, I appreciate you, thank you.
- 49:16Speaker 1: I think that. Yeah, just that because people I'll tell
- 49:19Speaker 1: people straight up, you know, if it comes to social media,
- 49:21Speaker 1: people like you gotta post more, you gonna do this,
- 49:23Speaker 1: I'm like, I know, I don't. I don't because you know,
- 49:26Speaker 1: in real life, I got enough going on, you know.
- 49:35Speaker 1: So uh I kind of I think that's where it
- 49:39Speaker 1: came from me, or the level headedness too. It kind
- 49:42Speaker 1: of came from me detaching from social media a little
- 49:44Speaker 1: bit because I'm not there, like, oh, I got to
- 49:47Speaker 1: take a picture like this so people see me in
- 49:49Speaker 1: this way, or like I gotta this is way. This
- 49:52Speaker 1: is how people dressing now I got dressed that way,
- 49:55Speaker 1: you know what I mean, to reach more people, or
- 49:58Speaker 1: you know.
- 49:59Speaker 4: You don't feel like you have prove something, Yeah, just
- 50:04Speaker 4: prove something to myself.
- 50:06Speaker 1: That's what it is.
- 50:08Speaker 4: Did you put a lot of pressure on yourself to
- 50:11Speaker 4: become somebody because of your grandmother?
- 50:14Speaker 1: I definitely did, And especially when you're younger too, because
- 50:18Speaker 1: it's like all you know is school and what's on
- 50:25Speaker 1: the other side of that fence or on the other
- 50:27Speaker 1: side of the fence that I have not seen. I
- 50:30Speaker 1: see my grandma over there, but she over here like
- 50:33Speaker 1: that you look on the other side of the it's
- 50:38Speaker 1: like she's not even on the other side.
- 50:40Speaker 6: Of the somewhere.
- 50:47Speaker 1: It's like, yeah, you put that pressure on yourself. But
- 50:50Speaker 1: I think that what I didn't understand when I was
- 50:53Speaker 1: younger was that people don't like it when you're pretending
- 50:57Speaker 1: to be somebody else or like you're trying to fit
- 50:59Speaker 1: them more. You know, people always say like, yo, are
- 51:03Speaker 1: you gonna sit at the table? Are you gonna build
- 51:04Speaker 1: your own table? You know what I mean? And it's
- 51:06Speaker 1: like the people that build their own tables, like my
- 51:09Speaker 1: grandmother is like, that's what is inspiring, and that's what gravitates.
- 51:14Speaker 1: You know, people gravitate towards you. You start doing that,
- 51:16Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Are you inspiring people to
- 51:18Speaker 1: do that? So I think that, Yeah, when I was younger,
- 51:22Speaker 1: it was, you know, I have to dress this way
- 51:24Speaker 1: because if I don't, this is what's popping now, Like
- 51:26Speaker 1: this is what's viral. Everybody wears Supreme. If I'm shooting
- 51:29Speaker 1: music video, I got where supreme, you know what I mean,
- 51:31Speaker 1: or like stuff like that. But and on top of that,
- 51:35Speaker 1: not really caring about it too. Like in my heart,
- 51:38Speaker 1: I knew I didn't really care to do this stuff
- 51:41Speaker 1: like dressed this way or portray this sort like this
- 51:43Speaker 1: certain image. But I always felt like that was necessary
- 51:46Speaker 1: to move forward in my career. But now, like the
- 51:50Speaker 1: older I've gotten, now it's kind of like, yo, I'm
- 51:53Speaker 1: wearing sweatpants and cross to the media, you know what
- 51:55Speaker 1: I mean, Because that's I'm comfortable. You show up at yourself,
- 51:59Speaker 1: leave as your self, you know what I mean, when
- 52:01Speaker 1: you're in there talking to whoever you're talking to, be yourself.
- 52:05Speaker 5: That when he goes into these big meetings, he goes
- 52:07Speaker 5: as himself. He doesn't change his clothes, he doesn't put
- 52:10Speaker 5: on a suit. If he doesn't feel like it, he
- 52:12Speaker 5: goes in exactly who he is.
- 52:16Speaker 1: Power.
- 52:16Speaker 4: Yeah, people realize the power and being authentic and being
- 52:21Speaker 4: yourself now that that's that's beautiful. So what were I
- 52:27Speaker 4: guess two questions. Did people treat you differently once they
- 52:32Speaker 4: found out who your grandmother is? And what are some
- 52:36Speaker 4: of the challenges that you have faced dealing with that.
- 52:39Speaker 1: Well? Yeah, people people definitely treating me differently. I didn't.
- 52:44Speaker 1: I wasn't like the person that would tell everybody, like,
- 52:47Speaker 1: you know, it wasn't like your name Mason, I'm Whoopy's grandson.
- 52:50Speaker 1: I was like, I never really was telling people that,
- 52:53Speaker 1: And because I want like that authentic interaction with somebody
- 52:57Speaker 1: before they're like, oh, that's whooped Over's grandson, So let
- 53:01Speaker 1: me like try to be super cool with him or
- 53:03Speaker 1: like you know, get on his good side, to try
- 53:06Speaker 1: to be friends with him, because I had a lot
- 53:07Speaker 1: of people try to do that, you know, or people
- 53:10Speaker 1: that would be rude to me when they first meet
- 53:13Speaker 1: me and then they find out and it's like, oh man,
- 53:15Speaker 1: what's up. Mazing, It's like I don't like that, And
- 53:18Speaker 1: I think that sometimes, you know, because I have to
- 53:22Speaker 1: think about it. From like my grandmother's perspective too, because
- 53:25Speaker 1: I never wanted her to feel like I was trying
- 53:27Speaker 1: to hide her from the world, you know what I mean,
- 53:29Speaker 1: Because I didn't want her to feel like I'm not
- 53:33Speaker 1: proud that she's my grandmother, because That's definitely never the case.
- 53:37Speaker 1: You know, I'm so grateful and I'm proud she's the
- 53:40Speaker 1: coolest grandmother playing, you know what I mean. It's just
- 53:43Speaker 1: like that, yeah, like because stuff, and then that stuff
- 53:46Speaker 1: starts to bleed over to with social media, because you know,
- 53:49Speaker 1: you got people that will start commenting on your page
- 53:52Speaker 1: because of something that she said on the view, and
- 53:54Speaker 1: it's like, I don't want the view all the time,
- 53:56Speaker 1: so I don't even know what she said. And it's
- 53:58Speaker 1: like now people coming on my page, you know, talking
- 54:01Speaker 1: about all this stuff concerning her, your needs to do
- 54:04Speaker 1: this and do that and do that, like like I'm
- 54:06Speaker 1: about to go tell her.
- 54:11Speaker 3: She's authentically.
- 54:14Speaker 1: That's so you know that, you know, people start to
- 54:18Speaker 1: do that a lot. Somebody told me they commented on
- 54:21Speaker 1: my music video one time, and it was like, oh, damn,
- 54:24Speaker 1: this is what his grandson. I would have thought he
- 54:26Speaker 1: would have been a doctor or a lawyer.
- 54:28Speaker 3: And I'm like, what the hell are you talking about?
- 54:31Speaker 1: That's not even ever been my goal or dream of mine.
- 54:34Speaker 1: Shout out to doctors and lawyers. We love y'all, for sure,
- 54:38Speaker 1: but that's never in your heart. But it's the expectations people,
- 54:43Speaker 1: you know what I mean, because you know related to her.
- 54:46Speaker 1: It's like, oh, you should have been doing that instead
- 54:49Speaker 1: of doing this, which is weird. Sometimes it's a weird
- 54:52Speaker 1: feeling to feel that people actually feel that they they
- 54:56Speaker 1: know enough to say that you know what I mean.
- 54:59Speaker 5: Because they wouldn't say it to anybody else. You know,
- 55:02Speaker 5: you just have this boldness.
- 55:04Speaker 1: Like I've never seen you to day in my life.
- 55:08Speaker 1: And it's like, I know you probably haven't seen me either,
- 55:11Speaker 1: because you probably just came across my page and wanted
- 55:14Speaker 1: to say something about, you know, regarding my grandmother. I
- 55:17Speaker 1: have people tag me in their stories and it's not
- 55:22Speaker 1: even I'm not even in the story.
- 55:24Speaker 3: It's not even.
- 55:26Speaker 1: Heard mimosas and just grown man. I'm not saying because
- 55:38Speaker 1: you don't see it.
- 55:39Speaker 4: You want to see this randomly?
- 55:42Speaker 1: Yeah, And he started doing it every day, just random marathon.
- 55:47Speaker 3: What you don't know?
- 55:48Speaker 1: This never made him in my life. I don't know
- 55:51Speaker 1: who he is, but that happens sometimes, which is like
- 55:54Speaker 1: so random.
- 55:55Speaker 3: You know, how do you deal with those fans?
- 55:57Speaker 1: I just, I mean I just let him keep doing.
- 56:01Speaker 3: People comment on your page like how do you.
- 56:05Speaker 1: I just I'll either just let them do what they
- 56:09Speaker 1: got to do. He takes the high rom Yeah, because
- 56:12Speaker 1: if if you say something too crazy, it is like
- 56:15Speaker 1: I still have my following here too, you know, so
- 56:18Speaker 1: and if you say something wild, somebody's gonna say something
- 56:20Speaker 1: back to you.
- 56:21Speaker 5: You know, you have a whole fight on my comments,
- 56:25Speaker 5: like do you not know my grand who?
- 56:27Speaker 4: My granny is her fan base, you know, to come
- 56:32Speaker 4: after you.
- 56:33Speaker 3: You don't play about her ground her grand baby.
- 56:35Speaker 1: No, she don't not at all.
- 56:37Speaker 6: Can I can do?
- 56:40Speaker 4: I think this will be a perfect time to go
- 56:41Speaker 4: into impersonating, right, yes.
- 56:44Speaker 6: Yes, okay, okay.
- 56:47Speaker 5: On board to the game, we have a segment called
- 56:49Speaker 5: Impersonating Greatness where we have our guests impersonate their family member,
- 56:55Speaker 5: their parents or this case, their grandparents.
- 56:58Speaker 6: So can you give us your best whoopyberg impersonation?
- 57:05Speaker 1: Sorry, I'm gonna shut it.
- 57:09Speaker 6: You can try.
- 57:10Speaker 5: You can't think of something you can think of like
- 57:12Speaker 5: a phrase or something, but just her at home, like
- 57:14Speaker 5: in her own element, not on TV or anything.
- 57:16Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, right, Hello, it's Whoopy and welcome back to
- 57:22Speaker 1: the Boards of the Game podcast. I know you're watching
- 57:26Speaker 1: from home, and I know you're enjoying what we have
- 57:28Speaker 1: going on right now. Make sure you like to subscribed
- 57:31Speaker 1: down below.
- 57:37Speaker 6: You forgot the.
- 57:43Speaker 5: So good listen to the glasses.
- 57:51Speaker 6: Like the low tone.
- 57:54Speaker 5: Boys.
- 57:57Speaker 1: That was good.
- 57:58Speaker 3: Go ahead, that was okay.
- 58:02Speaker 5: The phrase, any phrase that she says that you know,
- 58:05Speaker 5: she's always saying that you that you like or that
- 58:09Speaker 5: you kind of keep close to you.
- 58:12Speaker 1: One thing my mom always told me, it's always better
- 58:15Speaker 1: out than.
- 58:18Speaker 3: Iconic iconic?
- 58:20Speaker 6: Do we dare as.
- 58:24Speaker 3: Iconic?
- 58:24Speaker 1: That's everything that's that's the statement for that. Better than.
- 58:30Speaker 6: That's like that old school with they don't say, they
- 58:35Speaker 6: don't say.
- 58:36Speaker 4: That every and I don't even know if she is,
- 58:40Speaker 4: if she's trying to do this, but everything that she
- 58:43Speaker 4: says is ass because she she's a walking gym, and
- 58:50Speaker 4: it's like, literally, oh my god, absolutely that.
- 58:53Speaker 6: Has stuck with you.
- 58:55Speaker 1: Always prioritized time with your family first, because you know, we,
- 59:02Speaker 1: as crazy as the world is, we get caught up
- 59:04Speaker 1: in work. We get caught up in ourselves. Always make
- 59:07Speaker 1: time for your family a phone called text message, FaceTime,
- 59:12Speaker 1: you know, just check in on your family all the time,
- 59:15Speaker 1: you know, because family is important, and one day we're
- 59:18Speaker 1: not all going to be here, So we got to
- 59:20Speaker 1: make the most of every moment that we have on
- 59:22Speaker 1: the planets.
- 59:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, coming from one of the busiest women, Okay, alrighty.
- 59:31Speaker 4: So we have another segment. We have a segment on
- 59:35Speaker 4: Born to the Game called Legacy Objects.
- 59:38Speaker 3: It's where our guests.
- 59:39Speaker 4: Brings something small that holds a big story, an item
- 59:42Speaker 4: that represents where they come from, what they carry with them,
- 59:47Speaker 4: and how legacy shows up in everyday life. So Mason,
- 59:51Speaker 4: what did you bring and what does it represent?
- 59:54Speaker 1: Jesus Peace. That was my father's. He gave it to
- 59:58Speaker 1: me and ever since I was a kid, he used
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: to always wear a Jesus Peace and it was always
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: the one with the cross. It was never like this
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: this head one that you know, everybody even rap music
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: had that Jesus Peace with the head. It was always this.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: So before I went to Rochester to do a show,
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: he gave me this chain and like, I was really
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: nervous about that show, but I like it feels like
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: I'm getting a hug from him and God like at
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: the same time. So if I have this chain, I
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: always feel like I could do anything.
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: So shout out to my dad. He's at the house
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: right now.
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: Shout out, damn, shout out to dad.
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: So speaking about dad and fatherhood, what legacy? What does
- 1:00:41Speaker 4: legacy mean to you now? And has fatherhood shaped that?
- 1:00:45Speaker 4: And what are you proud of building for yourself and
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: your daughter?
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm I'm first. I'm proud to keep doing what
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: I'm doing with my music because I want her to
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: be able to grow up one day and be like, Yo,
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: this is my dad. You know, this is that he
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: shot this music video, or he did this song, or
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: I remember this song. You know, growing up and you know,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: when she gets to the age where she decides what
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: she wants to do. I just want her to know
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: that she has, you know, my full support, and I
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: believe that she can do anything that she puts her
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: mind to. And I want to instill that belief in
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: her too, and not just being like, oh, yeah, the
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: world is so big, you don't know if you know,
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: you don't know if you can do that.
- 1:01:29Speaker 7: You know.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: I wanted her to feel like she can do anything
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: that she wants and love doing it. Whatever she chooses
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: to do to love doing it. So like the legacy
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: there is like it's already it's already continuing because she's
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: here now, you know what It's like, she's already see
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: it in her eyes, you know, And whatever she decides
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: to do in the future, I'm always being her corner
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: and rooting for her and inspiring her to do better.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: And you know what I mean, I can't wait for that.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: That's what legacy is to me now, because I don't
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: really like when it comes to career legacy, I don't
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: really know, Like I feel like I'm living so much
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: in the moment that I'm just trying to do what
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: I could do now and you know, not think about
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: tomorrow yet because you know, tomorrow, I don't know, it
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: has trouble of its own, Yeah, exactly. So I just
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: like to, you know, kind of stick to just making
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: sure that she's good, every day, she's fed, she's getting asleep,
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: because that's legacy right there, you know what I mean,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: Because one day she's gonna get older and she's gonna
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: be a healthy, healthy young woman out here, you know.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: You know, that's just what it is for you. That's
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: what legacy is.
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: It does.
- 1:02:45Speaker 6: How is it changing? How is fatherhood changed you?
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: I don't get any sleep anymore.
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: Dirty dip.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean it's the first week. We're just talking
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: about this outside too, in the in the room. The
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: first week, I was thinking like, I don't know how
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: I'm about to do this, Like how am I about
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: to be your father? Right? Because every time I look
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: over at her, she just I don't know. I'm trying
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: to make her laugh. She's like two and a half now,
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: because on March fifth then she'll be three months.
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: So she frash, Yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: She just started smiling.
- 1:03:23Speaker 6: Like is she sitting the night now?
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean if she go to sleep at like
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: nine pm, she probably gonna wake up at like three
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: in the Morning's actually not and but it's like that
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: four in the morning. Putting her back to sleep is
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: the part that's like, damn, this is kind of hard.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: But I love every time that she wakes up. It's
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: not like she's like crying and stuff. She'll be waking
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: up and just look at you like, yeah, just start smiling.
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: So it's so cool to like to see my face
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: in her face. Ye, you know every day because now
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: you can actually see the twinkle in her eye and
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: she'll look at me and just started like going like
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: that all gums, yeah, yeah, yeah, I do.
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: B my son is soon. I still find myself like
- 1:04:15Speaker 3: in his mouth, She's the best.
- 1:04:18Speaker 6: When you found out you're going to be a dad,
- 1:04:20Speaker 6: how did you feel?
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: Oh? I was. I was so scared because I was like,
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: you know, obviously I never done this before, and I
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: was living in New Jersey at the time, and I'm
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: just like, you know, but the closer it started getting
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: to that nine month mark, like when it got to
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: like four months, then five months and six, then you
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: start getting more mentally prepared for the moment. And then
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: it gets to the point where I got to month
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: seven and I'm like, all right, just come on the
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: baby shower. Yeah yeah, I'm waiting on you. Yeah yeah.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: And I never, like, I never experienced excitement like that
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: in my life. And definitely that moment I held her
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: in the hospital felt like another like chapter two of
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: my life just started, you know, instead of it's like
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: the end of one chapter and like the start of
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: another one. And so that's kind of just so crazy
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: to me, just to feel that and be like present
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: in that point in life right now.
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: So now that you are a father, you have I know,
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: you have a different level of appreciation for your parents.
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: Oh yeah, for your grandmother.
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: What's one thing you would say to your parents and
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: to your grandmother?
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: I would say, I tell my parents now, I'm like,
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: I don't know how y'all how y'all did this three times?
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: You know, you know, but I would just say thank you,
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: you know, thank you for being patient because I know
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: my mom says, you know, you're a boy, so when
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: you was peeing, it was going everywhere, and I'm like,
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: you know, I'm grateful that you stuck it out with me,
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: you know, and like the patience that they had, the
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: patience that they have with my daughter now, you know
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: what I mean. It's just beautiful. And they helped me
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: out in every way in life. You know, if I
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: got to do something, go out of town, or do
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: a show or just anything, You're always there just to
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: be like, we got it. Don't worry about it.
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: Yeah, shout out. Shout out to my parents. I want
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: to just say thank you, and you are very much appreciating.
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: Beautiful.
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: They have raised an incredible heat of being. Thank you
- 1:06:30Speaker 4: so wise, so just genuine great energy.
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: Mason. So they've done a phenomenal job with you.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: Thank you. That really means a lot.
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: We do have a surprise for you, you.
- 1:06:41Speaker 6: Know, surprises, an money for you.
- 1:06:47Speaker 4: If I did, I will give it you.
- 1:06:55Speaker 7: No, I'm Mason, surprise.

- 1:07:19Speaker 4: Love you.
