- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, from the Star Reynolds Sports Desk, your 93.3 KJR
- 0:04Speaker 1: FM Sports Headlines.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Good morning!
- 0:09Speaker 3: Hello!
- 0:10Speaker 2: What a great morning. I just pulled out the headphones, Jack,
- 0:13Speaker 2: to my headphones.
- 0:14Speaker 4: Oh, well, Greg, you're a radio professional. We all know
- 0:18Speaker 4: not to do that, even though I do it all
- 0:20Speaker 4: the time.
- 0:21Speaker 2: I am a radio professional now more than ever.
- 0:23Speaker 4: Sometimes you do a little yoga in the studio and
- 0:26Speaker 4: you accidentally kick out a headphone jack.
- 0:29Speaker 2: What a day this has been already. Headlines are brought
- 0:31Speaker 2: to you by Frostbrood. Coors Light, as cold as the Rockies. Well,
- 0:34Speaker 2: that didn't go exactly as the Seahawks planned last night, eh?
- 0:37Speaker 2: Sam Darnold's getting more tests today, including MRI on his
- 0:40Speaker 2: injured hip. I'm trying to post a story on thenewstribune.com.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Don't know why, while I'm still talking to you at
- 0:47Speaker 2: the same time, that Mike McDonald said this morning, we're
- 0:50Speaker 2: praying for Sam, but it's not like we're worrying. Until
- 0:53Speaker 2: the guy's back playing, you don't know. The hip's intact
- 0:55Speaker 2: and it's good. It's more of a muscle thing, so
- 0:57Speaker 2: that's good. So how long that is, we don't know yet.
- 1:00Speaker 2: McDonald was asked on his coach's show this morning if
- 1:02Speaker 2: he expects Darnold to miss games, specifically the Seahawks' next
- 1:05Speaker 2: one in 10 days, September 20, the division rival Arizona.
- 1:07Speaker 2: The coach said, quote, I don't know. In my mind,
- 1:10Speaker 2: I'm thinking Drew will play. Maybe that's a hedge. That's
- 1:14Speaker 2: the latest on Sam Darnold. I mean, like right off
- 1:17Speaker 2: the presses, didn't even get into the paper yet. See,
- 1:20Speaker 2: look how lucky you all are listening for the news today.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Backup quarterback Drew Locke entered for Darnell last night in
- 1:25Speaker 2: the middle of the first quarter, played a final three
- 1:27Speaker 2: and a half quarters, 16 for 22 passing, tying touchdown,
- 1:30Speaker 2: 45 yards at Jackson Smith and Jigba on that faithful
- 1:33Speaker 2: play call we'll talk about from new OC Brian Fleury
- 1:35Speaker 2: on fourth and one. Do you want to hear it?
- 1:37Speaker 2: I sure do.
- 1:37Speaker 5: Because it is gorgeous.
- 1:38Speaker 6: Go in the air, go right that way.
- 1:39Speaker 4: Great call, Chris.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Jackson Smith and Jigba is gone. Touchdown.
- 1:49Speaker 7: I always just like to hear it.
- 1:50Speaker 2: We'll talk about how cool that play call was on
- 1:52Speaker 2: fourth and one after a timeout because it could have
- 1:55Speaker 2: been Barnard's barnyard push plays. That's what it usually has
- 1:58Speaker 2: been for the last couple of years. I know.
- 2:00Speaker 7: That was ballsy.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Yeah, for the backup quarterback who had had exactly many.
- 2:04Speaker 2: You know how many snaps he had in practice in
- 2:06Speaker 2: the first team offense? Zero. As many as you did. Yeah.
- 2:09Speaker 2: As many as I did. There's a funny story about that, too,
- 2:13Speaker 2: about how Duloc gets ready. We'll talk about that as well.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Seahawks win because Josh Jobe intercepted a pass in the
- 2:19Speaker 2: end zone in 21 seconds. Quick look was closed. Throwing
- 2:21Speaker 2: it up in the end zone. Did he get the
- 2:23Speaker 2: feet down?
- 2:26Speaker 8: Jobe.
- 2:27Speaker 4: Yes.
- 2:28Speaker 7: A pick.
- 2:30Speaker 2: A terrible decision. Josh Jobe. Terrible is not even a
- 2:36Speaker 2: bad enough word. Mike Tirico on the call with NBC Sports. Yeah,
- 2:40Speaker 2: that was one of the worst throws given the circumstances
- 2:42Speaker 2: the NFL quarterback could ever make.
- 2:46Speaker 7: There are questionable quarterback decisions.
- 2:48Speaker 4: I would just say that that toe tap is.
- 2:51Speaker 7: What I'm focusing on, is what Josh Jobe did.
- 2:55Speaker 4: Um you know the the decision yes was terrible but
- 2:59Speaker 4: josh job with that wherewithal.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Get out of here with drake may with me he
- 3:04Speaker 2: sucks i mean honestly he sucked in the super bowl
- 3:08Speaker 2: they got they handled the pressure for three quarters last
- 3:11Speaker 2: night he looked like a second this runner up in
- 3:13Speaker 2: the mvp voting and then when mcdonald finally figured out
- 3:16Speaker 2: pressure and the seahawks had momentum he sucked again Three
- 3:19Speaker 2: interceptions in the fourth quarter. That's as many as he
- 3:23Speaker 2: never had three in a game. And he had three
- 3:25Speaker 2: with the game on the line to blow a 10-0 lead.
- 3:27Speaker 2: He sucks. So no more of this Drake May. I
- 3:30Speaker 2: know yesterday Chuck was getting on me about it. We
- 3:32Speaker 2: have a Seattle guy who dismisses Drake May. You're damn
- 3:35Speaker 2: right I do. That was the worst throw I think
- 3:37Speaker 2: I've ever seen a quarterback throw in the NFL. Given
- 3:39Speaker 2: the stakes.
- 3:40Speaker 7: I mean, it's not even like the throw so much
- 3:43Speaker 7: as the decision.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Right?
- 3:44Speaker 9: Yes.
- 3:45Speaker 2: And then the physical throw itself was awful. You've got
- 3:47Speaker 2: to chuck that into the hawk's nest. But you were
- 3:50Speaker 2: falling back because Demarcus Lawrence stepped over the left tackle
- 3:54Speaker 2: who tried to cut block him. What a play by
- 3:55Speaker 2: Demarcus Lawrence at the end. Seahawks are 1-0 the hard way.
- 3:59Speaker 2: They don't play again for 10 days, like I said,
- 4:01Speaker 2: September 20th in Arizona. It sounds like Drew Locke's going
- 4:03Speaker 2: to be the starting quarterback. That worked out okay last night.
- 4:06Speaker 2: The Kozla family formally introduced yesterday as the new Seahawks owners.
- 4:09Speaker 2: It's becoming clear to me after talking to Neil Kozla
- 4:11Speaker 2: yesterday 33 years old, the son, for a half hour
- 4:14Speaker 2: after the press conference. He's going to be the point man.
- 4:16Speaker 2: But Ode Kozla told me that's the details guy for football.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Former 49ers intern developed a draft pick value chart for
- 4:23Speaker 2: them based on mathematics. He's going to be the point
- 4:26Speaker 2: man with John Schneider and Mike McDonald. The Mariners, they're
- 4:29Speaker 2: still playing? Yeah, they are. They won 3-2 over Texas yesterday.
- 4:33Speaker 2: They have another afternoon game, back-to-back afternoon games at the
- 4:35Speaker 2: Yard in Soto in the weekday, in the middle of
- 4:37Speaker 2: the week. That's weird. I don't know. There's six games
- 4:40Speaker 2: back with 17 to play. It would take Houston quitting
- 4:44Speaker 2: and maybe having more trash cans before they could ever
- 4:47Speaker 2: win the division. It's over.
- 4:48Speaker 7: Just keep saying trash cans. It's so fun.
- 4:50Speaker 2: It's just over.
- 4:52Speaker 7: I know. It just sucks.
- 4:55Speaker 2: It does.
- 4:55Speaker 10: Too bad.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Because it's been such a magnificent season at the park.
- 5:00Speaker 11: I know.
- 5:00Speaker 6: And.
- 5:01Speaker 7: It's been beautiful.
- 5:03Speaker 4: People are out and loving it, and it's been a
- 5:06Speaker 4: great experience. I've been there multiple times. The clubhouse is
- 5:10Speaker 4: still pretty cool, but knowing it's essentially over is sad.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Now on with the Thursday show. That is Ensign Sarah
- 5:20Speaker 2: Bell's favorite song, and at 4.30 this afternoon, I'm going
- 5:23Speaker 2: to be on a jet to Honolulu to see our daughter.
- 5:27Speaker 7: Can you give her a hug for me?
- 5:28Speaker 2: I will give her a long, long hug for you, Jessamyn.
- 5:31Speaker 3: Yes.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Thank you. Jessamyn has been an Army-Navy game sidelines with
- 5:34Speaker 2: Ensign Sarah Bell. Both of your children. Yes, that's true.
- 5:37Speaker 6: Yes.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Yes, that's true. But yeah, the Seahawks are in a
- 5:40Speaker 2: hiatus now until really Wednesday when they begin preparations for
- 5:43Speaker 2: the next game, September 20th at Arizona. So I'm heading
- 5:46Speaker 2: out to Honolulu. Mike Benton is going to be in
- 5:48Speaker 2: here tomorrow and Monday for me. I appreciate that. And
- 5:51Speaker 2: in the meantime, I'll be writing the updates on thenewstribune.com
- 5:54Speaker 2: for Sam Darnold's injury. And that's the news of the day, obviously.
- 5:59Speaker 2: But what did you think last night, given the circumstances?
- 6:03Speaker 2: 49451 is the coming-of-age text line. How did you feel
- 6:05Speaker 2: about the opener? How did you feel about Drew Locke?
- 6:07Speaker 2: How did you feel about Josh Jobe? How did you
- 6:10Speaker 2: feel about the opener, man?
- 6:11Speaker 4: It was very house-divided for me because I have my,
- 6:16Speaker 4: you know, New England husband. And every time the Seahawks succeeded,
- 6:22Speaker 4: I went, ha, ha. 10-0. I didn't have a lot
- 6:27Speaker 4: of ha-has. So when I saw them start to come back,
- 6:31Speaker 4: because he was like, oh, they're going to boat race him.
- 6:34Speaker 4: I'm like, there's absolutely no way. But he was just
- 6:36Speaker 4: talking smack. He knew that there was not a chance
- 6:40Speaker 4: that they would boat race him. But when Sam got hurt,
- 6:43Speaker 4: I thought he was going to come back. When I
- 6:45Speaker 4: saw it was a hip, I was like, oh, he'll
- 6:49Speaker 4: be right back. But a fracture scared me. A contusion,
- 6:54Speaker 4: which I also went through in my volleyball career. I
- 6:57Speaker 4: had a hip contusion. I was able to play just
- 7:00Speaker 4: with a plate over me in my spandex, because we
- 7:05Speaker 4: have to wear those for some ungodly reason. And so
- 7:10Speaker 4: I didn't think that he was going to be unable
- 7:13Speaker 4: to return.
- 7:14Speaker 7: When I saw that he wasn't able.
- 7:16Speaker 4: And not knowing enough about Drew's ability to command a game,
- 7:21Speaker 4: I was very nervous.
- 7:22Speaker 7: And then the defense showed up like they show up.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Sure did. Three interceptions, three sacks, a couple tackles for losses,
- 7:32Speaker 2: all in the fourth quarter. And again, never before had
- 7:35Speaker 2: Drake Mays thrown three interceptions in a game, and he
- 7:37Speaker 2: threw three in the fourth quarter. We're going to talk
- 7:40Speaker 2: way more about this. You're going to hear from Jackson
- 7:43Speaker 2: Smith and Jigba, who had— The decisive play that got
- 7:46Speaker 2: him back in the game, 10-3 by outrunning four Patriots
- 7:50Speaker 2: after the catch on a fourth and one.
- 7:51Speaker 11: That was unbelievable.
- 7:53Speaker 2: The play call, though. That is a new offensive coordinator
- 7:57Speaker 2: going with his backup quarterback to throw the ball. Drew
- 8:00Speaker 2: Locke called it like a tap on the ass from
- 8:03Speaker 2: his offensive coordinator. A boost of saying, we're not going
- 8:06Speaker 2: to do barnyard. We're not going to run the ball.
- 8:08Speaker 2: We're going to put the ball in your hands, Drew Locke.
- 8:11Speaker 2: veteran six years in a row being a backup in
- 8:13Speaker 2: the league. We're going to give you the chance to.
- 8:15Speaker 7: Go get it.
- 8:16Speaker 2: It's exactly that. And that's how Locke said, he said,
- 8:19Speaker 2: go get it, buddy. That's what he said. It ran
- 8:21Speaker 2: through his mind when he heard the play call. That
- 8:23Speaker 2: was a play. They didn't practice for this game. It
- 8:26Speaker 2: was one of those deep install plays that they first
- 8:28Speaker 2: put in, in May and June and shorts and t-shirts
- 8:30Speaker 2: on the practice field in many camps, and then went
- 8:32Speaker 2: over it a few times and installs in training camp.
- 8:35Speaker 2: But that was not in the game plan. And, and
- 8:39Speaker 2: Locke said, Oh, I wasn't ready for this play in
- 8:43Speaker 2: this game. He wasn't ready for any of the plays
- 8:45Speaker 2: in the game.
- 8:45Speaker 7: But he showed up.
- 8:47Speaker 2: And then he throws it. He said it was his
- 8:49Speaker 2: third read. Smith and Jigba was his third read on
- 8:51Speaker 2: that play. And he scanned the field from right to
- 8:53Speaker 2: left and found Smith and Jigba on the left side
- 8:55Speaker 2: wide open in zone coverage by New England. He couldn't
- 8:59Speaker 2: believe it that the NFL offensive player there was that
- 9:01Speaker 2: wide open. There you go. Touchdown. 10-10 game with 12
- 9:04Speaker 2: minutes left. Tsunami of momentum in Seattle's favor. And away
- 9:08Speaker 2: they went.
- 9:09Speaker 4: That's what I felt watching the game, Greg, is you
- 9:13Speaker 4: could feel the momentum swing.
- 9:16Speaker 2: That's a real thing.
- 9:17Speaker 7: Some people don't believe in it. I 100% do.
- 9:20Speaker 2: No, it's a real thing.
- 9:21Speaker 4: I've been on the field for 15 years, 12 to
- 9:26Speaker 4: 13 games a year, and I witness it. I feel
- 9:30Speaker 4: the energy change. And that's what I could see happening
- 9:35Speaker 4: in that game. And I think that's what got to
- 9:37Speaker 4: Drake May, to be honest.
- 9:39Speaker 2: He got rattled. I mean, there's no doubt about that.
- 9:42Speaker 2: He was a different quarterback in the fourth quarter. He
- 9:44Speaker 2: was 10 of his first 12 because the Patriots really
- 9:46Speaker 2: handled Mike McDonald's blitzes, specifically of Devin Witherspoon out of
- 9:50Speaker 2: the slot. We talked all week. What do they do
- 9:52Speaker 2: to get Witherspoon inside? Who do they bring? They kept
- 9:55Speaker 2: Nehemiah Pritchett. They brought him back out after he had
- 9:57Speaker 2: started in the beginning of training camp and then yield
- 10:00Speaker 2: to no Igbenogany. Then they cut Igbenogany. They signed Trevon Diggs.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Diggs did not come up off the practice squad yesterday.
- 10:07Speaker 2: It was two safeties. One of them, A.J. Finley, elevated
- 10:10Speaker 2: to 53. Rodney Thomas up from the practice squad actually started,
- 10:14Speaker 2: the former Colts starter, and he played a great game.
- 10:17Speaker 2: He was all over the ball. short tackles in the
- 10:19Speaker 2: open field, the tip to Nehemiah Pritchett for the interception,
- 10:23Speaker 2: the first of the three interceptions in the fourth quarter,
- 10:26Speaker 2: it worked. But they couldn't blitz effectively. They were, I mean,
- 10:30Speaker 2: like nine out of ten times they blitzed Witherspoon. The
- 10:33Speaker 2: Patriots got a first down with quick passes from where
- 10:36Speaker 2: Witherspoon blitzed from, but then in the fourth quarter, it
- 10:38Speaker 2: all changed. The momentum shift, Witherspoon started getting home, Drake Thomas, safeties,
- 10:43Speaker 2: corners blitzing affecting. At one point, the Patriots, the Seahawks
- 10:47Speaker 2: called timeout on a fourth down late in the game.
- 10:49Speaker 2: They had nine men on the line of scrimmage poised
- 10:51Speaker 2: like they were going to come blitz like it was
- 10:52Speaker 2: that Chicago game, the 6-3 game a couple years ago.
- 10:56Speaker 2: And then they called timeout and backed off and did
- 10:58Speaker 2: a fake blitz and dropped into coverage and the Patriots
- 11:00Speaker 2: ended up converting. But McDonald kept blitzing and the Patriots
- 11:03Speaker 2: had answers for three quarters and then when the game aligned,
- 11:06Speaker 2: it didn't. And then they lost. You'll also hear from
- 11:08Speaker 2: Cooper Kopp.
- 11:09Speaker 7: Wait, hold on. Can you say that?
- 11:10Speaker 4: Shout it from the back row just so that Mike
- 11:13Speaker 4: can hear that the Patriots lost.
- 11:15Speaker 2: I don't want to rub it into Mike. I do.
- 11:17Speaker 7: He was so mad at me.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Yeah, the Patriots had it until they did.
- 11:22Speaker 7: He called me a 12.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Yeah, well.
- 11:23Speaker 4: I'm like, well, regardless of whether I root for the Seahawks,
- 11:28Speaker 4: I hate the Patriots.
- 11:30Speaker 2: And you've doubled down on them now in the last
- 11:32Speaker 2: two Seahawks games, beating them twice.
- 11:33Speaker 7: Yes, I sure have.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Cooper Kopp. You'll hear from him as well. He talked
- 11:38Speaker 2: about what I asked him about was the belief of
- 11:40Speaker 2: this team and how belief gets them through games like
- 11:42Speaker 2: that when they have no points deep into the third quarter.
- 11:45Speaker 2: And Cup jumped all over that question. He loved to
- 11:48Speaker 2: talk about the belief this team has and says, you
- 11:50Speaker 2: know what? In the NFL, there are teams at the
- 11:52Speaker 2: end of games who either think they're going to win
- 11:54Speaker 2: or who are trying to figure out how they're going
- 11:56Speaker 2: to lose and expect to lose. And it's about expectations.
- 11:59Speaker 2: And he said the Seahawks expect to win. And they've
- 12:02Speaker 2: been there enough to know that in the end of
- 12:03Speaker 2: the games, they're going to find a way to win
- 12:05Speaker 2: a game like that when it's not pretty and it
- 12:07Speaker 2: hasn't gone their way and they're starting quarterbacks injured. You'll
- 12:10Speaker 2: hear from Cooper Cup at 11 o'clock. You'll hear from
- 12:12Speaker 2: Drew Locke. How does he stay ready when he never
- 12:15Speaker 2: practices the plays?
- 12:16Speaker 7: Dude, can you not love that guy anymore?
- 12:19Speaker 2: He's done it well. The last two meaningful games he's
- 12:22Speaker 2: played for the Seahawks. Remember, he had the 2024, he
- 12:25Speaker 2: went to the Giants, and he became a fill-in starter
- 12:28Speaker 2: for Daniel Jones in New York, and it didn't go well.
- 12:30Speaker 2: And the Seahawks signed him back. He didn't play at
- 12:32Speaker 2: all last year because Darnold was so great. The last
- 12:35Speaker 2: meaningful snaps he had for the Seahawks, do you remember?
- 12:38Speaker 2: The Monday night game in December of 2023 against the
- 12:41Speaker 2: defending champion Eagles.
- 12:42Speaker 7: Honestly, I didn't remember.
- 12:44Speaker 2: And he lit them up, and he won a two-minute
- 12:47Speaker 2: drill at the end of the game that beat the
- 12:48Speaker 2: Eagles and upset on Monday night for that team, the
- 12:50Speaker 2: 23 team, that ended up getting Pete Carroll fired. That
- 12:53Speaker 2: was the last time he came in unprepared when Geno
- 12:56Speaker 2: Smith was injured and Locke had to start. So I
- 12:59Speaker 2: asked Locke last night, how do you stay when you
- 13:01Speaker 2: don't practice any of the plays? Again, in the NFL,
- 13:05Speaker 2: the backup quarterback runs the scout team plays. The starting
- 13:08Speaker 2: quarterback gets all of the reps. I mean, all as 100%
- 13:11Speaker 2: of the game plan reps. How do you stay ready?
- 13:15Speaker 2: He told me about a whiteboard that he has at
- 13:17Speaker 2: his bedside. Well, first he said, I draw the plays.
- 13:21Speaker 2: And I thought to myself, and I said to him,
- 13:25Speaker 2: you literally draw them? And he said, Greg, literally draw them.
- 13:29Speaker 2: I have a whiteboard next to my bed. And with
- 13:33Speaker 2: his wife there of three and a half years.
- 13:34Speaker 7: I was going to say, doesn't he have kids too?
- 13:37Speaker 2: Two kids. Two and a half and six months. They're
- 13:40Speaker 2: exhausted from being parents of two and a half year
- 13:43Speaker 2: olds and a six month old. They climb into bed.
- 13:46Speaker 2: He said he turns to his wife, says, I love you, honey,
- 13:48Speaker 2: gives her a kiss and then goes to his whiteboard.
- 13:51Speaker 2: And he said most days he has to erase the
- 13:54Speaker 2: whiteboard because his wife had spent the entire day while
- 13:56Speaker 2: he was at work entertaining their two and a half
- 13:59Speaker 2: year old and letting him draw and doodle all over
- 14:01Speaker 2: the whiteboard. And he said it's a really cool reminder
- 14:04Speaker 2: for him every day that when he wipes off the whiteboard,
- 14:07Speaker 2: why he's doing what he does.
- 14:08Speaker 7: Oh, my gosh.
- 14:10Speaker 4: That reminds me of that Simpsons episode where, you know,
- 14:14Speaker 4: he said, do it for her when, you know, he
- 14:16Speaker 4: covered up all this.
- 14:19Speaker 7: Yeah, things with pictures of Maggie anyway.
- 14:22Speaker 4: But it also reminds me of my own childhood because
- 14:25Speaker 4: I always had a marble notebook in elementary school. You know,
- 14:30Speaker 4: you do your homework in there or whatever, take notes,
- 14:32Speaker 4: whatever you're supposed to do. I Unfortunately, I can't remember
- 14:36Speaker 4: exactly why I had a marble notebook, but my dad
- 14:39Speaker 4: would show me plays when he.
- 14:43Speaker 7: Came home from work.
- 14:44Speaker 4: You know, God bless my mother for spending so much
- 14:48Speaker 4: time with us during the day. But he would come
- 14:50Speaker 4: home and show me plays. So I had X's and
- 14:53Speaker 4: O's and my dad could make the perfect circles with
- 14:56Speaker 4: the O's. And he would draw plays in the back
- 15:00Speaker 4: of my notebook.
- 15:01Speaker 7: And one time my teacher found it. And was like,
- 15:04Speaker 7: what is this?
- 15:05Speaker 4: I'm like, well, that's a wide receiver route, actually. Just
- 15:10Speaker 4: so you know, that is a two tight end set.
- 15:13Speaker 7: And yeah.
- 15:14Speaker 2: For those of you who don't know, Jessamyn's father was
- 15:18Speaker 2: a college coach at Hofstra University in Long Island where
- 15:21Speaker 2: they grew up. That's why her dad would have plays on.
- 15:24Speaker 7: And Stony Brook.
- 15:25Speaker 2: And Stony Brook.
- 15:26Speaker 4: Yes.
- 15:26Speaker 7: But when I was growing up, he was at Hofstra.
- 15:28Speaker 12: Yes.
- 15:28Speaker 6: Yes.
- 15:29Speaker 2: At 11 o'clock, you'll hear from Drew Locke, and you'll
- 15:32Speaker 2: hear his story about the whiteboard that I was talking
- 15:34Speaker 2: to him about. I wrote that story this morning at thenewstribune.com.
- 15:37Speaker 2: At 11.30, we'll read back your text. We'll have talkbacks
- 15:39Speaker 2: if you want to give a 30-second message or shorter.
- 15:43Speaker 2: We'll play those back at 11.30 at the Tacoma Dodge
- 15:45Speaker 2: text line 49451, where I've already asked, what's your first
- 15:49Speaker 2: impressions of the Seahawks, of new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury?
- 15:53Speaker 2: Of Jadarian Price. I've got some opinions about Price that
- 15:56Speaker 2: came out in, like, the first quarter. Like, give him
- 15:58Speaker 2: the ball, please, repeatedly, instead of once every quarter, once
- 16:01Speaker 2: every drive. I mean, it was like lightning strikes that
- 16:04Speaker 2: he was getting the ball. Give him the rock.
- 16:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Especially with a backup quarterback in there. Just feed him
- 16:10Speaker 2: time and time again. See where you go.
- 16:11Speaker 4: I thought when Drew came in that that would be
- 16:13Speaker 4: the predominant thing that we saw.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Should have been. He seemed to get lost in the game,
- 16:18Speaker 2: and there was too much in Brian Flory's mind last night.
- 16:20Speaker 2: I asked Mike McDonald after the game about the usage
- 16:24Speaker 2: of Price and how fits and spurts it was. You'll
- 16:28Speaker 2: hear from Mike McDonald as well during the show. 11.35,
- 16:30Speaker 2: it's our chance at a Factor Fiction. Your chance to
- 16:34Speaker 2: match wits with us. Thanks to the Lucky Eagle Casino
- 16:37Speaker 2: and Hotel, you get a chance to win $ 1, 000 this
- 16:39Speaker 2: week in Factor Fiction. Our next pick is at 11.35.
- 16:43Speaker 2: Jessamyn will have that.
- 16:44Speaker 7: Oh, my gosh.
- 16:45Speaker 2: I have a pick. It's the NFL, and I'd give
- 16:48Speaker 2: you that hint, but that's about it.
- 16:50Speaker 7: Yeah, because even I don't know what I'm going.
- 16:53Speaker 2: To do yet. That's at 11.45, of course. Anne Furness
- 16:56Speaker 2: will join us to talk about what he's got going
- 16:58Speaker 2: on on the show. So, yeah, Price needs the ball.
- 17:02Speaker 2: My takeaway for the offensive part of the game is
- 17:06Speaker 2: let's see Jadarian Price more than one draft. He earns
- 17:09Speaker 2: for 13 yards on the first play on a really
- 17:11Speaker 2: decisive cut on outside zone. And then he didn't get
- 17:14Speaker 2: the ball the rest of the drive. That's the drive
- 17:16Speaker 2: that Arnold got sacked and injured on the last play
- 17:20Speaker 2: of the drive. Comes into the next drive, he has
- 17:22Speaker 2: a 12-yard run. Didn't see him again. And then he
- 17:26Speaker 2: had an 8-yard run for a first down late in
- 17:29Speaker 2: the first quarter, or actually early second. He had a
- 17:32Speaker 2: late-yard run for a first down going right to the
- 17:34Speaker 2: left second quarter. And then I'm thinking, okay, now's your chance.
- 17:38Speaker 2: I even put it on Twitter. Here's the time. Just
- 17:40Speaker 2: give the price of the ball repeatedly. After the 8-yard
- 17:42Speaker 2: run for a first down, you know what they did?
- 17:44Speaker 2: They dropped back to pass, and Locke got sacked. And
- 17:47Speaker 2: then there was a penalty. Drive ruined. Price didn't get
- 17:51Speaker 2: the ball again. Give him the ball. Repeatedly. I mean,
- 17:55Speaker 2: I understood the bubble wrap in the preseason, but were
- 17:58Speaker 2: they bubble wrapping him last night? I like George Helani
- 18:02Speaker 2: as a back, and I think he's got a great
- 18:04Speaker 2: purpose on this team, especially on third down. I saw
- 18:06Speaker 2: too much of George Helani last night. They got into
- 18:09Speaker 2: the red zone, and Price disappeared. Just gone in the
- 18:13Speaker 2: third quarter. They get in the red zone late in
- 18:14Speaker 2: the third quarter. Price helped get him there with a
- 18:16Speaker 2: couple runs, and then he was gone.
- 18:18Speaker 7: Do you think that's strategic, though?
- 18:20Speaker 2: Well, I think I know that the pass concepts and
- 18:25Speaker 2: the formations are Holani's right now. And we've talked about
- 18:28Speaker 2: Price's gain that he has to make in pass blocking.
- 18:31Speaker 7: Yeah, you were talking about him getting eased into this offense.
- 18:35Speaker 2: But not in the run game and not when your
- 18:37Speaker 2: starting quarterback is hurt. That's when you've got to lean
- 18:39Speaker 2: on your lead back. And I don't know if it's
- 18:42Speaker 2: that they don't think he's up to it physically yet
- 18:44Speaker 2: and want to work him in. This is a regular
- 18:47Speaker 2: season now. Let's go. There's only 17 of these. And
- 18:50Speaker 2: this is why you drafted this guy. I think McDonald,
- 18:53Speaker 2: when he looks at the film this morning, will say,
- 18:56Speaker 2: Brian Flair, I know your hands got tied. First time
- 18:59Speaker 2: ever doing this and you lose your starting quarterback on
- 19:01Speaker 2: the fifth play. But can we feed No. 8 the
- 19:03Speaker 2: ball a little more regularly? And so it's not a
- 19:05Speaker 2: fit and spurts thing? I talked to Price after the
- 19:07Speaker 2: game about that. I said, how hard, and I try
- 19:10Speaker 2: not to have him throw a play caller into the bus,
- 19:12Speaker 2: but I said, how difficult is it to get into
- 19:14Speaker 2: a flow of the game when you run for 13
- 19:16Speaker 2: yards and then you don't see the ball or the
- 19:18Speaker 2: field for the rest of the drive? 12 yards, don't see.
- 19:21Speaker 2: He said, you know what? The whole offense was sputtering
- 19:23Speaker 2: in that way because of our penalties, the five pre-start
- 19:26Speaker 2: penalties they had, false starts, delay of games, the illegal
- 19:29Speaker 2: shift when they changed the play and Cup didn't get
- 19:32Speaker 2: set in time on what would have been a Cup
- 19:33Speaker 2: touchdown pass. He said, we couldn't get out of our
- 19:36Speaker 2: own way for the first three quarters because And that
- 19:38Speaker 2: made everything sputter, including his production and his opportunities. Once
- 19:42Speaker 2: they get behind the sticks, it seemed flurry. So, okay,
- 19:44Speaker 2: we're not going to run our new rookie first round
- 19:47Speaker 2: pick anymore. And so it went for the first... basically
- 19:50Speaker 2: three quarters. But man, I would love to have seen
- 19:53Speaker 2: a series of just number eight three times and see
- 19:56Speaker 2: how far they get. He was averaging seven yards a carry,
- 20:00Speaker 2: yet had only six carries into the third quarter. Their
- 20:03Speaker 2: first 30 plays, Jessamyn, he had seven rushes. fewer than
- 20:09Speaker 2: one-third of the time he was getting the ball. That's
- 20:12Speaker 2: not what a lead back in the first round should be.
- 20:14Speaker 2: In an outside zone system predicated on the run, your
- 20:17Speaker 2: outside back should be at least a third, if not higher,
- 20:20Speaker 2: of a percentage of plays.
- 20:22Speaker 4: I always wonder about the chess game when it comes
- 20:24Speaker 4: to football, too. Is that what you're expecting? And so
- 20:28Speaker 4: we're going to throw something different at you because you
- 20:32Speaker 4: can ramp that up when he's ready to just be
- 20:35Speaker 4: able to take what they're expecting and I don't know.
- 20:40Speaker 4: That's just like Marshawn Lynch, right? Let's go back to that.
- 20:43Speaker 4: He is ready for the rumble. And perhaps Price, they
- 20:49Speaker 4: are trying to just give him some time to learn
- 20:52Speaker 4: this and explore some other options on the offense.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Maybe so, but how are they going to know what
- 20:58Speaker 2: he's ready for if they don't give him the opportunity?
- 20:59Speaker 2: I mean, how do they know if he's ready for
- 21:01Speaker 2: every down carries if they don't give him a chance
- 21:03Speaker 2: to carry it every down? That was the mystery of
- 21:05Speaker 2: the game to me through three quarters is how sporadic
- 21:09Speaker 2: and just, it was like spasms of, Oh, here's Jadarian
- 21:13Speaker 2: Price again. See you later.
- 21:14Speaker 4: I just, I haven't seen a rookie back thrown into
- 21:17Speaker 4: a situation like that very often.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Well, yeah. And usually a rookie back has some preseason
- 21:22Speaker 2: games to kind of get acclimated to things.
- 21:23Speaker 7: And he didn't even have that.
- 21:25Speaker 2: I would expect far more than six rushes in the
- 21:28Speaker 2: first 26 snaps into the third quarter for Price in
- 21:32Speaker 2: the next game. This is September the 20th at Arizona.
- 21:35Speaker 2: Up next, we'll go to the wide receiver that got
- 21:38Speaker 2: him back. Jackson Smith and Jigba did Jackson Smith and
- 21:41Speaker 2: Jigba things to tie the game last night. You'll hear
- 21:44Speaker 2: from the receiver and All-Pro and Offensive Player of the
- 21:47Speaker 2: Year next. You'll also hear from Cooper Cupp, some Mike
- 21:51Speaker 2: McDonald late last night, Drew Locke at 11 o'clock, and
- 21:55Speaker 2: then 11.35, Factor Fiction, a chance to win $ 1, 000 from
- 21:58Speaker 2: Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel. We already gave you the
- 22:02Speaker 2: latest on Sam Donald. We'll review that again from this
- 22:04Speaker 2: morning next on 93.3 KJR FM. This is for you, Greg.
- 22:29Speaker 2: That's my Kurt Gowdy childhood again, the NBC Sports NFL.
- 22:33Speaker 2: I think they did it for baseball, too, which also
- 22:35Speaker 2: was Kurt Gowdy back in the 70s. Yeah, I'm so old,
- 22:37Speaker 2: I know Kurt Gowdy from NBC, and I know this
- 22:40Speaker 2: old NBC intro song, not the new one they have. NBC,
- 22:44Speaker 2: last night you heard Mike Tirico on the call.
- 22:45Speaker 7: That's why I go old school for you.
- 22:47Speaker 2: I appreciate that. That's like watching Terry Bradshaw, Mean Joe Green,
- 22:51Speaker 2: Franco Harris, and the Steelers growing up outside Pittsburgh with
- 22:53Speaker 2: Kurt Gowdy on the call. That's what the NBC NFL... 70.
- 22:57Speaker 2: I know some of you on the text line remember that.
- 22:59Speaker 2: I know they do. I can't be the only one
- 23:01Speaker 2: who remembers that.
- 23:02Speaker 4: Oh, they will. They can and they will. Also, give
- 23:05Speaker 4: me your talkbacks because I want.
- 23:07Speaker 7: To hear from it.
- 23:07Speaker 2: That's at 1130. We'll play those back and read back
- 23:10Speaker 2: your texts on the Tacoma Dodge text line. We're already
- 23:12Speaker 2: having a bunch of texts in about the Seahawks game
- 23:14Speaker 2: last night, including one saying he hasn't even played football
- 23:18Speaker 2: since November and 253 says, you're so weird. It's game
- 23:21Speaker 2: one in all caps. He's a rookie, dude. Are you serious?
- 23:23Speaker 2: Thank you. I'm well aware of that. It's his first
- 23:25Speaker 2: game in 10 months. We talked about this. We're going
- 23:29Speaker 2: to have overreaction Thursday after a Wednesday game because one
- 23:33Speaker 2: game is all we have to go on. And I
- 23:35Speaker 2: think that that is what the Seahawks are going to
- 23:38Speaker 2: try to do in week two to improve upon offensively
- 23:40Speaker 2: is to give Price the ball more. That's all. Jackson
- 23:43Speaker 2: Smith and Jigba, it's never wrong when they give him
- 23:46Speaker 2: the ball. Five of the first seven completed passes in
- 23:51Speaker 2: last night's game were to Jackson Smith and Jigba, and
- 23:53Speaker 2: why not? He tied the game for them 10-10 on
- 23:56Speaker 2: a fourth and one play. This was him last night
- 23:58Speaker 2: after the game.
- 24:00Speaker 13: Good to see you guys.
- 24:01Speaker 1: What a game.
- 24:03Speaker 13: All glory to God. It's great to be here with
- 24:05Speaker 13: a new season, new team. Energy was great. Shout out
- 24:09Speaker 13: to the 12s. What an incredible game. I think a
- 24:14Speaker 13: testament to our team. Just having each other's back, offense,
- 24:17Speaker 13: special teams, defense, never wavering. Understanding that it's a four-quarter game,
- 24:23Speaker 13: and that's why I love this team so much, and
- 24:24Speaker 13: I'm super proud of them.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Jackson obviously sam going out that quickly was a big
- 24:29Speaker 2: hit how did you guys handle that and how did.
- 24:31Speaker 13: You get behind yeah yeah it's tough it's tough losing
- 24:35Speaker 13: 14 i mean he's the the head of the snake
- 24:37Speaker 13: but we have each other's backs like i said you
- 24:40Speaker 13: know we fully trust in drew lock to come in
- 24:43Speaker 13: and do his thing um done it time and time
- 24:45Speaker 13: again so um we just have to have each other's
- 24:48Speaker 13: back like i like i'm saying and um And like
- 24:51Speaker 13: I said, I'm just super proud of everybody.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Can you talk about the play call from Brian Fleury
- 24:56Speaker 2: on fourth down and what happened on that play?
- 24:59Speaker 13: Yeah, I was happy it was a pass play. And
- 25:02Speaker 13: they thought it was a run. I believe they sent
- 25:05Speaker 13: a blitz. My job was to find the zone, and
- 25:07Speaker 13: Drew did a great job finding me. And then after that,
- 25:10Speaker 13: just do what I do, just, you know, Try to
- 25:14Speaker 13: get upfield, protect the ball, and great upfield blocking by
- 25:19Speaker 13: our tight ends. That's something that we preach heavily each week.
- 25:24Speaker 13: We call it eat, and it showed up to life.
- 25:27Speaker 11: Jack, what was Drew like in the huddle tonight?
- 25:29Speaker 2: Very confident. Drew's a ball player.
- 25:32Speaker 13: I mean, you know, he comes in and demands the huddle,
- 25:35Speaker 13: and he wants.
- 25:36Speaker 2: To sling, throw the ball around.
- 25:38Speaker 13: So, like I said, full confidence in two.
- 25:41Speaker 14: When your defense makes that play to win the game
- 25:43Speaker 14: and you have to watch out the sideline, they've.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Done that a lot.
- 25:46Speaker 6: So how unsurprising was it and what was kind of
- 25:47Speaker 6: your response to seeing that?
- 25:49Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 25:49Speaker 13: I mean, that's something I was praying to see on
- 25:52Speaker 13: the sideline, and it came to fruition.
- 25:54Speaker 2: And, man.
- 25:58Speaker 13: They had our backs you know right there we can
- 26:00Speaker 13: always count on our defense best defense in the league
- 26:03Speaker 13: um just hard nose and i'm super happy for joe
- 26:06Speaker 13: to to excited that i was happy to see him
- 26:09Speaker 13: go attack the ball and keep his feet and look
- 26:11Speaker 13: like a receiver out there jackson.
- 26:12Speaker 15: A number of procedure penalties for you guys tonight during
- 26:15Speaker 15: the game you.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Know stuff on the ball and such how did you
- 26:18Speaker 2: kind of see you guys work through that and still
- 26:20Speaker 2: find a way to be able to come out with
- 26:22Speaker 2: us one in the end Yeah, that's on us.
- 26:24Speaker 13: That's on the players.
- 26:25Speaker 2: That's on the offense.
- 26:26Speaker 13: I'll take accountability for that. We have to be better.
- 26:31Speaker 13: We have to be better. No ifs, ands, or buts.
- 26:34Speaker 2: No excuses.
- 26:35Speaker 13: But first game, we'll grow from this, and we'll watch
- 26:40Speaker 13: the film and learn where we can get better, and
- 26:41Speaker 13: that's how the great teams become great.
- 26:45Speaker 2: How big was the belief you guys have built over
- 26:47Speaker 2: the last couple of years coming into play?
- 26:50Speaker 13: Oh, man, huge belief. Going into the game, I know
- 26:54Speaker 13: our defense is going to give us the ball and
- 26:56Speaker 13: give us opportunities, and that's the best feeling to be,
- 27:00Speaker 13: for me, in the offense, just having that belief that
- 27:04Speaker 13: defense has our back. Special teams are going to go
- 27:05Speaker 13: out there and do their job. It's not all on me.
- 27:07Speaker 13: We have Cooper Cupp making big plays. We have Shee
- 27:10Speaker 13: making big plays. The young rookie was towing the rock tonight,
- 27:14Speaker 13: and it's a team effort, and That's what gives me
- 27:18Speaker 13: the calmness and the spirit to just go out there
- 27:22Speaker 13: and just do what I do.
- 27:24Speaker 2: You go against Josh Jobe and you might purchase a practice,
- 27:27Speaker 2: and not as many people know those names. Can you
- 27:28Speaker 2: talk about what they bring to the game?
- 27:30Speaker 13: Oh, man, going against the defense, you know, all the camp,
- 27:33Speaker 13: it was hell, especially going against Josh Jobe and his
- 27:36Speaker 13: press technique and his just his awareness of the game
- 27:41Speaker 13: and the position that he plays on the other side.
- 27:43Speaker 2: He got spooned.
- 27:44Speaker 13: Nehemiah Pritchard had a hell of a game today coming
- 27:46Speaker 13: up with a big time pick leading to a score. So,
- 27:51Speaker 13: you know, going against them just just makes our our
- 27:54Speaker 13: offense just and me a ton better. And so I'm
- 27:58Speaker 13: happy those guys are Seahawks for sure.
- 28:00Speaker 15: Jackson, I don't know where you were on the sideline,
- 28:02Speaker 15: but the hit Julian had to start the second half
- 28:04Speaker 15: on Hunter, like what that.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Do for the sideline? Oh, electric, electric.
- 28:08Speaker 13: I mean, we want to feed the crowd big plays and,
- 28:12Speaker 13: and we want the crowd on our side. We have
- 28:15Speaker 13: the best fans in the world, so we have to
- 28:16Speaker 13: use them. And, Whenever you get a chance to pump
- 28:19Speaker 13: up the crowd and make a big play and let
- 28:22Speaker 13: the other team know, it's a benefit for us.
- 28:24Speaker 2: I apologize if you were asked.
- 28:25Speaker 10: This, but fourth and one, that's a situation where a
- 28:27Speaker 10: lot of times you guys go to the A.J.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Barner touch points. What did you think of the decision
- 28:31Speaker 2: to put the ball in Drew's hands there? Like I said, I.
- 28:36Speaker 13: Love throwing the ball on fourth and short and third
- 28:39Speaker 13: and short. There's a lot of space out there, and
- 28:41Speaker 13: I think Drew, like I said, did an incredible job
- 28:44Speaker 13: just finding me and making the right play.
- 28:47Speaker 2: What was the message at halftime?
- 28:49Speaker 13: The message at halftime was, man, we knew coming in
- 28:52Speaker 13: it was going to be a four-quarter game. And that's
- 28:56Speaker 13: who we are.
- 28:57Speaker 2: We're going to fight.
- 28:58Speaker 13: We know it's going to be a dogfight, and we
- 29:00Speaker 13: love it. And whatever it looks like in the first half,
- 29:04Speaker 13: second quarter, we're going to make it right. We're going
- 29:06Speaker 13: to keep fighting until the clock hits 10. triple zero
- 29:09Speaker 13: so um so i was just happy to to see
- 29:13Speaker 13: that and to see that continue going forward this year
- 29:17Speaker 13: we've got.
- 29:17Speaker 5: A lot of guys you got 10 at one point
- 29:20Speaker 5: what does it.
- 29:20Speaker 13: Say about this team like i said i mean we
- 29:23Speaker 13: we don't waver we don't run from adversity um that's
- 29:26Speaker 13: just not the guys that we are that's not who
- 29:29Speaker 13: this team is we we love it we make it
- 29:32Speaker 13: right we just fight play after play after play like
- 29:34Speaker 13: this is a dog fight and and we know that
- 29:37Speaker 13: and you know We're agreeing. of guys that keep our
- 29:40Speaker 13: heads down and then look up, like I said, when
- 29:42Speaker 13: it's triple zeros on the clock and, and, um, it's
- 29:45Speaker 13: been good for us.
- 29:46Speaker 2: What should people know about Drew Locke as a player
- 29:48Speaker 2: and a competitor?
- 29:49Speaker 13: He's a playmaker. Um, he's a playmaker. He loves, he
- 29:53Speaker 13: loves to be out there and ball out. You know,
- 29:55Speaker 13: you can, you can just see it on them and
- 29:57Speaker 13: it's affectionate, um, affectionate, uh, whatever on the team and
- 30:01Speaker 13: like that.
- 30:02Speaker 2: And, uh, you can feel it.
- 30:04Speaker 13: And, um, it's, it's exciting, you know, to see him
- 30:08Speaker 13: ball out and throw it around and demand a huddle.
- 30:15Speaker 13: He ran tough, man. He ran tough and I'm super.
- 30:19Speaker 2: Proud of him.
- 30:19Speaker 13: I thought it was a great first game. That first
- 30:22Speaker 13: run had a lot of juice in it and he's
- 30:24Speaker 13: just going to keep building. I'm excited to see how
- 30:28Speaker 13: far he grows throughout the season.
- 30:31Speaker 2: Jackson, it's a long season. The two best teams in
- 30:33Speaker 2: the league may be in your division again. How much
- 30:35Speaker 2: different is it watching tomorrow night's game with W pulling
- 30:37Speaker 2: this out of the fire than it would have been
- 30:39Speaker 2: the other way? One more time, sorry. How important is
- 30:42Speaker 2: it to get this win when you can watch two
- 30:44Speaker 2: teams tomorrow?
- 30:45Speaker 13: Oh, yeah. I mean, these days off is always better
- 30:48Speaker 13: with a win. And sit back, relax, you know, get
- 30:51Speaker 13: to watch Sunday football, the game on tomorrow. I love,
- 30:55Speaker 13: I'm an NFL fan, so... I love to watch ball
- 30:58Speaker 13: and see where other teams are at. So we'll take
- 31:01Speaker 13: advantage of these days off and get better.
- 31:08Speaker 2: I absolutely love the Kirk Gowdy music. Thank you, Jessamyn.
- 31:11Speaker 7: Thank you. I do it for you.
- 31:13Speaker 2: I used to lay out every stitch of Steeler things
- 31:16Speaker 2: I owned in front of the television when I watched
- 31:18Speaker 2: Steeler games as a little kid. I'm talking when I
- 31:20Speaker 2: was four years old. The first memory I have of
- 31:22Speaker 2: football is Super Bowl IXs. When the Steelers beat the
- 31:26Speaker 2: Vikings 16-6.
- 31:28Speaker 7: Well, you and Mr. Kosla have a lot in common then.
- 31:30Speaker 2: Yes. I talked to him about that yesterday. Good. And
- 31:34Speaker 2: he was at Carnegie Mellon University in 1976, which is
- 31:37Speaker 2: why he liked Steelers in Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh.
- 31:41Speaker 2: And I joked with him. I said, you couldn't even
- 31:42Speaker 2: breathe in Pittsburgh without being a Steeler fan in the 70s.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Of course, you couldn't even breathe either because of the
- 31:48Speaker 2: steel mills.
- 31:48Speaker 7: Well, yeah, we won't.
- 31:49Speaker 2: You couldn't even see the sun in the 60s and
- 31:51Speaker 2: 70s in Pittsburgh. Yeah, I've heard. Because of the soot
- 31:53Speaker 2: from the mills. But, yeah, Vinod Kozla and I were
- 31:57Speaker 2: joking about how the Steelers were so omnipotent. There's another
- 32:00Speaker 2: one of your words for you.
- 32:01Speaker 7: Oh, hold on.
- 32:03Speaker 2: I got it. No, no, no.
- 32:11Speaker 1: Okay.
- 32:11Speaker 7: I use big words, too.
- 32:12Speaker 2: But that was Jackson Smith and Jigba last night. Thank you.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Austin Powers. What's the other one? Kill Bill. Kill Bill. Yes.
- 32:21Speaker 4: Well, so I did have, just so people know, my
- 32:23Speaker 4: nerd alert alarm. I had regular alarms, but it sounds
- 32:27Speaker 4: like every single.
- 32:28Speaker 7: One of them could be on someone's phone to wake up.
- 32:32Speaker 4: And so I really didn't want to jar our audience
- 32:34Speaker 4: with like give them PTSD from waking up in the morning.
- 32:38Speaker 7: So I use Kill Bill because it's a little more soothing.
- 32:40Speaker 2: Oh.
- 32:41Speaker 7: Even though she's about to murder everyone.
- 32:43Speaker 4: But it's not something you wake up to every day.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Well, yeah, there's that.
- 32:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Well, Jackson Smith and Jigba last night, and again, the
- 32:53Speaker 2: fourth and one play. What was so interesting about that
- 32:58Speaker 2: was that how many times in the last two seasons,
- 33:01Speaker 2: including in the first half last night, when it was
- 33:03Speaker 2: fourth and one, did they run the Barnard push, the
- 33:07Speaker 2: tush push with Barnard direct snap, That's all they've done
- 33:11Speaker 2: in fourth and one. And they called timeout last night
- 33:15Speaker 2: down 10-3 with 12 minutes left. The ball's at the
- 33:17Speaker 2: plus 45 on fourth and one. And they said, you
- 33:20Speaker 2: know what, Drew Locke? I know you haven't practiced at
- 33:23Speaker 2: all this week. I know you've only been the scout
- 33:25Speaker 2: team quarterback. We're going to give you the ball to
- 33:27Speaker 2: throw it on fourth and one with the game on
- 33:28Speaker 2: the line down seven with 12 minutes left. And he did.
- 33:32Speaker 2: And he took his time, got good pass protection from
- 33:35Speaker 2: the offensive line. That generally did well in pass protection
- 33:38Speaker 2: last night. There were a couple times the Patriots Got
- 33:40Speaker 2: him on a couple stunts and blitzes and cross games inside.
- 33:44Speaker 2: But gave Locke the time to look at his third receiver.
- 33:46Speaker 2: It's not often on fourth and one when the line
- 33:49Speaker 2: of scrimmage is crowded, you have time for three looks.
- 33:52Speaker 2: And Smith and Jacob was a third look on that play.
- 33:55Speaker 2: And again, Drew Locke saying, we didn't even practice that play.
- 33:59Speaker 2: That wasn't one of the primary ones in this week's playbook.
- 34:02Speaker 2: What happens is you have a playbook. You have a
- 34:04Speaker 2: game plan of plays you think is going to work
- 34:06Speaker 2: against what the Patriots will give you. But as we
- 34:07Speaker 2: talked about, game one's a wild card if you don't
- 34:10Speaker 2: know exactly what you're going to get. And they went
- 34:13Speaker 2: with something that was from the deep installs back from
- 34:15Speaker 2: the spring and early summer, and it turned out to
- 34:17Speaker 2: be the tying touchdown. 4-9-4-5-1, the Cohen-Dodge text line. Your
- 34:21Speaker 2: reaction to everything Seahawks last night. Brian Fleury's first night
- 34:24Speaker 2: as an offensive play caller. Drew Locke coming off the
- 34:27Speaker 2: bench and out of mothballs. and Sam Darnold, the prognosis. Again,
- 34:31Speaker 2: if you missed the news from the top of the show,
- 34:32Speaker 2: Mike McDonald this morning on his coach's show saying that
- 34:34Speaker 2: the Seahawks are, quote, not worrying about Sam Darnold's injury,
- 34:39Speaker 2: but when asked whether it will be games or even
- 34:42Speaker 2: the next game at Arizona in 10 days that Drew
- 34:45Speaker 2: Locke plays, Mike McDonald said that's his hunch, that Drew
- 34:48Speaker 2: Locke will start that game, but he said that may
- 34:51Speaker 2: be just a hedge, meaning he's maybe just saying that
- 34:53Speaker 2: because he doesn't know, but... When the coach says that,
- 34:56Speaker 2: he wouldn't have said that if he did not reasonably.
- 34:58Speaker 2: This is a hip injury that will cost Sam Darnold
- 35:01Speaker 2: at least the next game at Arizona in week two.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Up next, we're going to introduce something that we're bringing
- 35:06Speaker 2: back to KJR. Long-time listeners might remember that we had
- 35:11Speaker 2: a varsity football scoreboard show on Friday nights, 10 to
- 35:14Speaker 2: 11 p.m. It's coming back this week, thanks to Dick Fane.
- 35:18Speaker 2: He's going to talk about it next. It's part of
- 35:20Speaker 2: our High school football Friday focused. We already had it
- 35:23Speaker 2: last week. We talked to high school coaches, the big
- 35:25Speaker 2: game of the week. This week, Liberty and Issaquah is
- 35:30Speaker 2: the matchup that we're going to be talking to their
- 35:32Speaker 2: coaches for on Friday. Mike Benton's going to do that tomorrow.
- 35:35Speaker 2: Dick's up next to talk about his high school Friday
- 35:37Speaker 2: night scoreboard show we're going to have this week on
- 35:39Speaker 2: 93.3 KJRFM. Hi, welcome back. Greg Bell, Justin McIntyre with
- 36:27Speaker 2: you as we are every weekday, 10 a.m. to noon
- 36:29Speaker 2: on 93.3 KJR FM. We're in the hard rock section
- 36:32Speaker 2: of the show. That must mean Dick Fane is on
- 36:35Speaker 2: the line somewhere. He's going to be on the Beacon
- 36:37Speaker 2: Plumbing Hotline in a moment to tell us about a
- 36:39Speaker 2: new high school football scoreboard show. We're going to bring back,
- 36:42Speaker 2: I was going to say new, but we're going to
- 36:43Speaker 2: bring it back. You can also remember way back when,
- 36:46Speaker 2: when we had Varsity Football Live. I think that was
- 36:48Speaker 2: the title of it back on KJR, way back when. Well,
- 36:51Speaker 2: we're bringing it back. Starting tomorrow, piggybacking on the fact
- 36:54Speaker 2: that we have high school football coaches in a game
- 36:57Speaker 2: of the week featured every Friday. Tomorrow's going to be
- 36:59Speaker 2: Issaquah against Liberty. Yeah, I hear you. Why isn't it
- 37:03Speaker 2: Bellevue and Puyallup? We've got Bellevue and Puyallup scheduled later
- 37:07Speaker 2: in the season. I know Bellevue for a fact. And
- 37:10Speaker 2: we're trying to spread it around to not have multiple teams.
- 37:13Speaker 2: I mean, honestly, you could put Bellevue or Eastside Catholic
- 37:16Speaker 2: or O'Day every week. or Lake Stevens, or Graham Kapowsin
- 37:20Speaker 2: like we did last week. Pretty much every week, they're
- 37:22Speaker 2: the top teams in the state. We're trying to spread
- 37:23Speaker 2: it around a little bit. But yeah, Puyallup and Bellevue,
- 37:26Speaker 2: another big, big game in western Washington tomorrow. Dick Fane
- 37:31Speaker 2: is going to be on our air tomorrow night talking
- 37:34Speaker 2: about all the high school football games and a return
- 37:36Speaker 2: of the show. Dick is on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline
- 37:39Speaker 2: right now. Tell us what's up, man. I'm glad to
- 37:41Speaker 2: bring this back. Thanks for joining us.
- 37:43Speaker 9: Oh yeah.
- 37:44Speaker 2: It's back to the future, man.
- 37:46Speaker 14: Um, we did varsity football live for.
- 37:49Speaker 2: Almost 20 years.
- 37:51Speaker 14: Um, kind of got killed by COVID, uh, like a
- 37:54Speaker 14: COVID killed a lot of different traditions and, uh, we
- 37:57Speaker 14: decided to bring it back. And what the coolest thing
- 38:00Speaker 14: about it for me is that we've got all of
- 38:03Speaker 14: our former trip around the state guys, our reporters from
- 38:06Speaker 14: around the state of Washington that, uh, just live and
- 38:09Speaker 14: breathe and sleep high school football in their regions of
- 38:12Speaker 14: the state.
- 38:13Speaker 2: And we've got them all back.
- 38:14Speaker 14: So it's really, really cool. It's for those of you
- 38:17Speaker 14: that love varsity football live for those almost 20 years on,
- 38:21Speaker 14: on Friday nights on what was nine 50 KJR. Now
- 38:24Speaker 14: is our first case on a 93.3 from a 10
- 38:27Speaker 14: to 11 every Friday.
- 38:28Speaker 2: So tell us Dick, what's the format of the show?
- 38:31Speaker 2: Are you taking Collins? How do you get the information?
- 38:33Speaker 2: Are you subscribing to a ticker of scores? How is
- 38:36Speaker 2: this all going to go down? And are you just,
- 38:38Speaker 2: Are you just listing scores? Are you going to have
- 38:39Speaker 2: a co-host or a guest, or what are you doing?
- 38:42Speaker 14: Yeah, so I think I'm going to be kind of
- 38:45Speaker 14: like the Scott Hansen, right? It's going to be like
- 38:48Speaker 14: NFL Red Zone. It's going to be like high school
- 38:50Speaker 14: Red Zone, and instead of going to a live game
- 38:53Speaker 14: action like Scott does on the NFL Red Zone, we're
- 38:56Speaker 14: going to be going to reporters that have just finished
- 38:58Speaker 14: reporting Usually calling the game, most of these guys are
- 39:01Speaker 14: play-by-play guys that have just finished calling the game. Some
- 39:03Speaker 14: of them are newspaper reporters that have just finished up
- 39:07Speaker 14: in the locker room talking to the kids, talking to
- 39:09Speaker 14: the coaches and everything. But the format will be basically
- 39:12Speaker 14: the same as what we had. before except what we
- 39:15Speaker 14: had before was a 90 minute show so we won't
- 39:17Speaker 14: have quite as long a coach's interview interview but we'll
- 39:20Speaker 14: uh you know we're going to start with trip around
- 39:22Speaker 14: the state uh we'll get about five or six guys
- 39:26Speaker 14: for about three minutes a piece hammer through their their
- 39:29Speaker 14: areas of the, of the state, the game that they
- 39:31Speaker 14: were calling, and then also the scores that they have
- 39:33Speaker 14: from their areas. And then we'll go into a coach's
- 39:36Speaker 14: interview that I'll conduct each and every week. with some
- 39:39Speaker 14: of the great coaches in the state. And then we'll
- 39:41Speaker 14: wrap things up with a comprehensive scoreboard. And you can
- 39:44Speaker 14: follow along. This is going to be also streamed on
- 39:46Speaker 14: the finalscore.tv. So you mentioned, Dana, where are we going
- 39:50Speaker 14: to get all the scores? We're getting our scores on finalscore.tv.
- 39:53Speaker 14: It's the number one place to go for all these.
- 39:56Speaker 14: So you can get your scores there. You can also,
- 39:59Speaker 14: you know, we've got all sorts of coaches and player
- 40:02Speaker 14: interviews that I've already conducted over the last month or
- 40:05Speaker 14: so populated up on the final score dot TV. So
- 40:08Speaker 14: you can look at any of those interviews as well.
- 40:10Speaker 14: So final score dot TV, and we're going to stream.
- 40:13Speaker 2: Live as well.
- 40:13Speaker 14: So you get to see my ugly mug every Friday
- 40:15Speaker 14: from 10 to 11 as well. If you would just
- 40:17Speaker 14: want to, you just want to watch the stream on
- 40:19Speaker 14: the final score dot TV. So from somewhere, either in
- 40:21Speaker 14: my wife's office or the basement.
- 40:25Speaker 2: So, so we did this for 20. I didn't realize
- 40:28Speaker 2: it was that long, 20 some years. Yeah, it was
- 40:31Speaker 2: almost 20 years.
- 40:31Speaker 14: I think it was like 2000 to, to, you know,
- 40:34Speaker 14: right up, right up to COVID time. So, uh, it's, uh, it, it,
- 40:38Speaker 14: it was just kind of a, a passion that I have. And, and,
- 40:40Speaker 14: you know, I was coaching all through that time as
- 40:43Speaker 14: well at Mount Rainier and I've kind of come full
- 40:45Speaker 14: circle as, as you know, I, uh, you know, when
- 40:47Speaker 14: my kids were young and I coached my son in
- 40:49Speaker 14: basketball all the way up through, well, now he's in
- 40:51Speaker 14: high school again.
- 40:52Speaker 2: So guess what?
- 40:52Speaker 14: I'm coaching the Mount Rainier basketball team again. So I,
- 40:54Speaker 14: so I'm feeling, uh, much more connected. You know, I
- 40:57Speaker 14: was very connected with high school sports while I was coaching,
- 41:00Speaker 14: then kind of got out of it a little bit
- 41:02Speaker 14: when I was just coaching select ball. And now I'm
- 41:05Speaker 14: back involved in high school sports again, because both of
- 41:08Speaker 14: my kids are playing high school sports.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Well, that's awesome. I mean, hats off to you again,
- 41:13Speaker 2: to the platform for high school athletics, for the coaches
- 41:16Speaker 2: who spend all this time and get paid a pittance
- 41:18Speaker 2: for what they put into it, the kids and the
- 41:21Speaker 2: student athletes. That's great. And then Bravo to you, sir.
- 41:24Speaker 2: Thank you. Thanks for sharing this. We'll look forward to
- 41:26Speaker 2: it starting tomorrow night.
- 41:28Speaker 14: You didn't know that the Mount Rainier NIL pays me
- 41:30Speaker 14: about 500 grand a year.
- 41:32Speaker 2: You didn't know that? I didn't know that. That's quite
- 41:34Speaker 2: a big.
- 41:34Speaker 7: Get me a job, Dick.
- 41:35Speaker 2: That's quite a big half day pass out there. All right.
- 41:38Speaker 12: How about that?
- 41:39Speaker 2: All right. Well, that explains it. I got it. I
- 41:43Speaker 2: totally made sense, though. Thanks, Dick. We'll be listening tomorrow night.
- 41:47Speaker 2: Appreciate you. You bet. It'll be fun. Yeah, no problem.
- 41:50Speaker 2: Dick Fane is going to be hosting the return... of
- 41:53Speaker 2: Varsity Sports Live, Varsity Football Live. What was the title
- 41:57Speaker 2: of it again? I think it was Varsity Football Live.
- 41:58Speaker 2: That's what we did in the KGR back in the day.
- 42:01Speaker 2: And we're bringing it back, starting tomorrow night. So to
- 42:04Speaker 2: set our high school football schedule tomorrow at 11 o'clock,
- 42:07Speaker 2: Mike Benton will be pinch hitting for me. He's going
- 42:09Speaker 2: to talk to the Issaquah and Liberty High School coaches
- 42:12Speaker 2: before their game tomorrow night. I love the text line
- 42:16Speaker 2: blowing up with, what is the love for Bothell, Puyallup,
- 42:19Speaker 2: and Bellevue? Are you guys stupid? Got it. We're going
- 42:21Speaker 2: to spread it around.
- 42:22Speaker 4: I just like the fact that there's a lot of
- 42:24Speaker 4: passion for high school football.
- 42:26Speaker 2: Bring it. Bring your criticisms or teams we're picking. Bring it.
- 42:30Speaker 2: I just want you to listen and awareness of the
- 42:33Speaker 2: high school sports and the coaches and players that are
- 42:35Speaker 2: going on around here. We'll do that at 11 o'clock
- 42:36Speaker 2: again tomorrow, as we will every Friday at 11 o'clock
- 42:39Speaker 2: on our High School Football Friday feature. And then tomorrow night.
- 42:42Speaker 2: Varsity Football Live, 10 to 11 with Dick Fane and
- 42:44Speaker 2: scores around the state. Interviews and coach, you heard him.
- 42:46Speaker 2: He's got interviews, coaches, players. That's great. Awesome. We're trying
- 42:50Speaker 2: to do our part here on KJR. Up next, you're
- 42:53Speaker 2: hearing from Drew Locke, the man on the white horse
- 42:55Speaker 2: who came in last night and won the game in
- 42:58Speaker 2: the fourth quarter. He's next on 93.3 KJR FM.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Now, from the Star Reynolds Sports Desk, your 93.3 KKRFM
- 43:25Speaker 1: Sports Headlines.
- 43:28Speaker 2: Good morning. Happy Thursday to you. I think that houseplant's
- 43:30Speaker 2: going to quit. They don't have to worry about firing him.
- 43:32Speaker 2: I think the problem is Jerry DiPoto, not the houseplant.
- 43:38Speaker 7: A ficus at least is tall.
- 43:41Speaker 2: Headlines brought to you by Frostbrook Coors Light. As cold
- 43:45Speaker 2: as the Rockies. The latest news from this morning from
- 43:47Speaker 2: coach Mike McDonald about quarterback Sam Darnold's hip injury. More
- 43:53Speaker 2: tested than MRI this morning. Told the Seahawks that it
- 43:57Speaker 2: is good, not great news, but he thinks there's nothing
- 44:02Speaker 2: to worry about. We're not worrying about Sam Darnold is
- 44:05Speaker 2: what Mike McDonald said this morning when asked whether Darnold
- 44:08Speaker 2: would play the next game, September 20th at Arizona, the
- 44:11Speaker 2: coach said, I'm thinking maybe Drew Locke will play, but
- 44:15Speaker 2: maybe that's a hedge. He said, I don't know, but
- 44:18Speaker 2: his inclination is that Drew Locke's going to play the
- 44:20Speaker 2: next game. So perhaps one game miss, maybe two for
- 44:23Speaker 2: Sam Darnold, but it's not a fracture. Last night, CT
- 44:26Speaker 2: scan at Harborview Medical Center confirmed that. Backup quarterback Drew
- 44:31Speaker 2: Locke entered for Darnold, played the final three and a
- 44:33Speaker 2: half quarters with 16 for 22 passing, tying touchdown pass
- 44:36Speaker 2: on a fourth and one with 12 minutes left to
- 44:38Speaker 2: Jackson Smith and Jigba, 45 yards. That erased all of
- 44:42Speaker 2: Seattle's 10-0 deficit to England. Jason Myers kicked a go-ahead
- 44:45Speaker 2: field goal with six minutes left. Then Drake May with
- 44:47Speaker 2: one of the worst passes an NFL quarterback's ever going
- 44:49Speaker 2: to throw, decision-wise and actual physical throw of it. Just
- 44:52Speaker 2: a duck thrown up off his back foot as DeMarcus
- 44:55Speaker 2: Lawrence ruined the play. Forced May into the interception. Josh Jobe,
- 44:59Speaker 2: toe tap inside and The sideline of the end zone
- 45:01Speaker 2: with 21 seconds left when the Patriots were in field
- 45:03Speaker 2: goal range. Just inexplicable thing. That game should have been
- 45:08Speaker 2: in overtime. He could have taken a sack there and
- 45:10Speaker 2: they still would have kicked the field goal.
- 45:11Speaker 7: I still can't believe he didn't take a sack.
- 45:13Speaker 2: That was crazy.
- 45:15Speaker 4: I was screaming and I'm going for the Seahawks and
- 45:19Speaker 4: I still was like hitting my husband.
- 45:22Speaker 7: I'm like, why didn't he take the sack?
- 45:24Speaker 2: Everyone in New England is asking that this morning. Seahawks 13,
- 45:26Speaker 2: Patriots 10. Again, Seahawks don't play for another 10 days,
- 45:30Speaker 2: September 20th at Arizona. The Kozla family yesterday formally introduced
- 45:33Speaker 2: in a morning press conference at Lumen Field. I was
- 45:35Speaker 2: talking to Neil Kozla and Vinod Kozla afterwards for about
- 45:39Speaker 2: 25 minutes or so, and it's pretty obvious. Neil Kozla,
- 45:42Speaker 2: 33 years old, the son, is going to be the
- 45:43Speaker 2: point man between the ownership group and general manager John
- 45:46Speaker 2: Snyder slash John.
- 45:48Speaker 4: Yeah, if you listen to that press conference, it's very
- 45:51Speaker 4: clear that he is the one that has won the
- 45:56Speaker 4: institutional knowledge of football. He has actually done the work
- 46:00Speaker 4: to learn about it.
- 46:02Speaker 7: I'm not saying his parents don't.
- 46:04Speaker 4: I'm just saying that he is and he's a phenomenal
- 46:07Speaker 4: communicator as well.
- 46:09Speaker 2: He is. He's very outspoken. He's just an affable guy,
- 46:13Speaker 2: easy to talk to, and yeah, I had a good
- 46:15Speaker 2: conversation with him.
- 46:16Speaker 7: He doesn't come off as a suit. How was your conversation?
- 46:20Speaker 2: It was very cordial and very breezy. It was like
- 46:24Speaker 2: we'd known each other for a while, actually.
- 46:25Speaker 7: Yeah, I like that about him.
- 46:27Speaker 2: Yeah, that was our first impression of him yesterday, and
- 46:29Speaker 2: it sounds like there'll be many more. Mariners are still playing. 3-2,
- 46:32Speaker 2: they beat Texas yesterday at the yard. They're going to
- 46:34Speaker 2: play at the yard another matinee. I'm a back-to-back Wednesday-Thursday matinees.
- 46:38Speaker 2: It almost never happens. They played yesterday a day game,
- 46:40Speaker 2: of course, because the Seahawks were the night game, and
- 46:42Speaker 2: then there's a getaway day for Texas today, which is why,
- 46:44Speaker 2: and for Seattle, I guess. That is why there's a
- 46:47Speaker 2: day game today. Mariners are six games back of the
- 46:49Speaker 2: trash cans because the trash cans lost last night, but
- 46:52Speaker 2: there's only 17 games left. Math ain't mathin' for the Mariners.
- 46:58Speaker 2: Last night. Drew Locke did what he did the last
- 47:01Speaker 2: time he played meaningful snaps in the regular season for Seattle,
- 47:04Speaker 2: and that was back in December 2023 when he had
- 47:06Speaker 2: to start a Monday night game against the defending Super
- 47:08Speaker 2: Bowl champion Eagles. He won that game, too. Last night,
- 47:12Speaker 2: he comes in like the autumn wind is a raider.
- 47:18Speaker 2: The autumn wind is a pirate. I can't do John
- 47:20Speaker 2: Vicenda at all.
- 47:21Speaker 7: I mean, it's impossible.
- 47:23Speaker 2: Do you know how many times when my ears are
- 47:25Speaker 2: covering the Raiders that I heard this song?
- 47:27Speaker 6: Whew.
- 47:28Speaker 2: I'm just playing you today. That is. It's my greatest hits.
- 47:32Speaker 2: It also ages me quite a bit. But Drew Locke
- 47:36Speaker 2: last night with no preparation, not a single snap of
- 47:39Speaker 2: the playbook's game plan for this game. He was just
- 47:42Speaker 2: running New England Patriots scout team plays the entire week.
- 47:46Speaker 2: So how did he stay sharp? How was he able
- 47:48Speaker 2: to get ready for this game when he wasn't running
- 47:50Speaker 2: any of the plays in practice? He's got a pretty
- 47:53Speaker 2: cool whiteboard story and a pretty cool wife that Puts
- 47:56Speaker 2: up with a whiteboard and my wife would be like,
- 47:58Speaker 2: what are you doing? Turn off the light.
- 48:00Speaker 7: My mom's the same person. So I hear you.
- 48:03Speaker 2: We can't even have a TV in our bedroom, which
- 48:04Speaker 2: actually I appreciate my wife for.
- 48:06Speaker 4: I never had a TV in my bedroom and now
- 48:08Speaker 4: my husband needs it.
- 48:10Speaker 2: My wife said, no way. And I said, okay, fine.
- 48:12Speaker 7: It's actually really better. But yeah, it's better to not
- 48:16Speaker 7: have one.
- 48:16Speaker 2: All the things I've given up for my wife and
- 48:18Speaker 2: I'm glad I did. No meat in the house. No
- 48:21Speaker 2: TV in the bedroom.
- 48:22Speaker 7: Dual sacrifice when it comes to that.
- 48:24Speaker 2: That's right. She's supremely intelligent and an awesome mother and
- 48:28Speaker 2: absolutely hot. So I'll take that trade.
- 48:30Speaker 7: She is a smoke show.
- 48:31Speaker 2: She is a smoke show. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. No,
- 48:34Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 48:36Speaker 7: No, you're not. Wendy, I've seen you.
- 48:39Speaker 2: She's going to kill me for this.
- 48:40Speaker 7: She's so fun.
- 48:42Speaker 6: She's so fun.
- 48:45Speaker 2: She's going to be, what are you talking about me
- 48:46Speaker 2: on the radio? I know she's going to say that.
- 48:48Speaker 7: Oh yeah.
- 48:48Speaker 4: Most wives don't listen because they know their husbands are
- 48:51Speaker 4: idiots on the air.
- 48:52Speaker 2: Yeah, they are. Drew Locke last night after his white
- 48:57Speaker 2: night heroics, saving the Seahawks in the fourth quarter.
- 49:00Speaker 3: Hello.
- 49:03Speaker 6: Oh gosh.
- 49:05Speaker 3: I don't know if my lifespan loves them as much
- 49:09Speaker 3: as I love them in the moment, but yeah, man,
- 49:11Speaker 3: there's a blast again. Um, So proud of everybody around
- 49:17Speaker 3: me tonight on the offensive side of the ball.
- 49:19Speaker 6: Can't say enough about the.
- 49:20Speaker 3: Defense forcing the turnovers and it was such an awesome night,
- 49:24Speaker 3: but go ahead.
- 49:25Speaker 2: The life of a backup quarterback, you don't get reps
- 49:27Speaker 2: in the game. How do you stay? We see you
- 49:30Speaker 2: out there at the end of practice. How else do
- 49:32Speaker 2: you stay ready.
- 49:32Speaker 8: For a moment?
- 49:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:34Speaker 3: Uh, my biggest thing is always just drawing every play
- 49:37Speaker 3: as much as I can.
- 49:38Speaker 12: Um, Literally drawing.
- 49:41Speaker 6: Say that again?
- 49:42Speaker 12: Literally drawing.
- 49:42Speaker 6: Literally drawing.
- 49:43Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 49:44Speaker 6: Whiteboard. I've got one next to my bed. I'll do
- 49:48Speaker 6: it at night. I'll do it in the morning.
- 49:50Speaker 3: And that's just kind of been my thing, being able
- 49:52Speaker 3: to visualize it so that when I read it out,
- 49:54Speaker 3: it's just there in my head. Because of the lack
- 49:58Speaker 3: of reps, you don't get to physically do it. I've
- 50:00Speaker 3: got to be able to draw it from somewhere, no
- 50:02Speaker 3: pun intended, and drawing it. helps me draw it from somewhere.
- 50:06Speaker 15: Mike said the fourth down play, he doesn't think you've
- 50:08Speaker 15: ever run that practice.
- 50:10Speaker 6: Probably not.
- 50:11Speaker 3: Um, it is like a classic football play. Um, but no, no, definitely,
- 50:18Speaker 3: definitely never ran it. Um, looked kind of funny before
- 50:21Speaker 3: the snap and really seemed like they had anybody ready
- 50:25Speaker 3: to match Jax based on what I knew we were
- 50:28Speaker 3: about to run.
- 50:28Speaker 6: And, um, he's actually ended up being the third read
- 50:31Speaker 6: in that play.
- 50:32Speaker 3: And, When 11's just standing there, you've got to give
- 50:36Speaker 3: him the pill.
- 50:40Speaker 2: I mean, you're the number two quarterback.
- 50:42Speaker 15: It's four down and short instead of put Varner in
- 50:44Speaker 15: to run or whatever.
- 50:46Speaker 11: That's sweet.
- 50:47Speaker 6: That's sweet.
- 50:48Speaker 3: When you hear, like, the digit come in, I'd like
- 50:53Speaker 3: to think that I could have, like, all 100 memorized
- 50:55Speaker 3: by the time, but no.
- 50:56Speaker 6: I'm like, all right, what number is that? Flow seven.
- 50:59Speaker 6: Here we go. Let's do it. It was cool. It
- 51:01Speaker 6: was awesome.
- 51:02Speaker 3: It was kind of one of those, like, Pardon my French,
- 51:06Speaker 3: just a little tap on the ass.
- 51:07Speaker 6: Like, go get this done, buddy.
- 51:08Speaker 2: It was cool. And then your reaction to what Jackson
- 51:11Speaker 2: did afterwards.
- 51:12Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 51:12Speaker 2: What kind of stance was that?
- 51:15Speaker 6: Oh, fantastic. Do the work for me, bud. Go get
- 51:18Speaker 6: that thing done.
- 51:19Speaker 3: Yeah, just another Jackson moment that doesn't surprise any of us,
- 51:27Speaker 3: but turns into a cool highlight reel. Coach Fleury, obviously
- 51:32Speaker 3: this is probably.
- 51:33Speaker 16: Not the way he was in the first game to go,
- 51:36Speaker 16: but how did you see the communication with him go
- 51:38Speaker 16: as the game progressed? It seemed like he was getting
- 51:40Speaker 16: you some easy opportunities at halftime to kind of get
- 51:43Speaker 16: you into a rhythm, get the offense in.
- 51:45Speaker 3: No, it was great to get in here at half,
- 51:48Speaker 3: put the plays up on the board, talk about our
- 51:50Speaker 3: openers coming out of the half, really get those dialed in.
- 51:54Speaker 6: I think it's also a little bit of the.
- 51:58Speaker 3: Just feeling the flow of the game, getting back into this,
- 52:01Speaker 3: finding ways to, in the future, be able to snap
- 52:04Speaker 3: into it quicker. That's just the life of a backup. But, yeah, no,
- 52:09Speaker 3: he did a fantastic job all night. We need to
- 52:13Speaker 3: be a little better on some procedural things.
- 52:15Speaker 6: Obviously, that's apparent.
- 52:16Speaker 3: You can't go second and inches to whatever we ended
- 52:21Speaker 3: up on that drive. Could have came back to bite us,
- 52:23Speaker 3: and we've got to get better with that moving forward.
- 52:26Speaker 16: Sam, I just talked about how stoic is his words
- 52:28Speaker 16: to describe Brian Fleury.
- 52:30Speaker 2: Was that the case with Fleury tonight?
- 52:32Speaker 6: Sam has said that.
- 52:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 52:33Speaker 2: Was that the case tonight? Same thing.
- 52:35Speaker 4: Really?
- 52:36Speaker 6: Same thing. It was awesome to see that.
- 52:39Speaker 3: I think as a quarterback, you know, with someone in
- 52:42Speaker 3: the headset, you want him like this all the time,
- 52:46Speaker 3: whether that's, you know, he's really energetic, but always be energetic,
- 52:51Speaker 3: or you're really stoic, always be stoic. that was, it
- 52:54Speaker 3: was awesome to feel that from him and I see
- 52:56Speaker 3: that from him.
- 52:56Speaker 6: And, uh, no, that's what we're going to get moving forward.
- 52:59Speaker 3: How much or in what ways have you grown as
- 53:01Speaker 3: a quarterback since last time you got extended run in
- 53:03Speaker 3: a game like this a couple of years back?
- 53:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 53:06Speaker 3: Um, I'd say it's an interesting question cause you know,
- 53:11Speaker 3: I've definitely grown. I've learned a lot about football, but
- 53:16Speaker 3: having an opportunity on a team like this.
- 53:20Speaker 6: Can shift your mindset. Um, Knowing the type of defense
- 53:24Speaker 6: that we.
- 53:24Speaker 3: Have, there's no rush to push the ball down the field.
- 53:29Speaker 3: Let's find ways to get the ball in our guys' hands. Now,
- 53:32Speaker 3: when the ones downfield are there, I've never been one
- 53:35Speaker 3: to be afraid to throw those. But having the mindset
- 53:38Speaker 3: of taking care of the football, getting it in our guys' hands,
- 53:41Speaker 3: knowing that you've got the best defense in the world,
- 53:43Speaker 3: in my opinion. Let's keep the ball moving forward and
- 53:48Speaker 3: see what the scoreboard looks like at the end of this.
- 53:50Speaker 6: You mentioned that defense.
- 53:51Speaker 2: I imagine it's the game going down.
- 53:52Speaker 6: You have to be thinking about over time getting right.
- 53:54Speaker 15: Did you even see the interception?
- 53:57Speaker 3: It was, all right, we're talking about four minutes. All right,
- 54:00Speaker 3: we're talking about two minutes. All right, stop talking to
- 54:03Speaker 3: me about two minutes. I'm going to go watch this
- 54:04Speaker 3: last play. And me and Jalen are sitting there. And
- 54:09Speaker 3: sure enough, the ball went up in the air. Joe
- 54:12Speaker 3: made a heck of a play. Then you click into,
- 54:15Speaker 3: oh my gosh, we just got to.
- 54:16Speaker 6: Go knee it now. The game's over.
- 54:17Speaker 3: Let's go take a knee and get on in here
- 54:19Speaker 3: and celebrate a little bit. I've always been the guy
- 54:30Speaker 3: to stand behind the offense, watch him, watch the pass rush,
- 54:35Speaker 3: and then go.
- 54:35Speaker 6: Back and look at the tape on the sideline with
- 54:37Speaker 6: the pictures.
- 54:40Speaker 3: The hit was kind of There's bodies in the way.
- 54:43Speaker 3: I didn't necessarily see it. Take a couple steps away,
- 54:46Speaker 3: I look back, and I see him kind of hobbling
- 54:47Speaker 3: to the sideline. That's happened before.
- 54:51Speaker 6: Nothing too big. But when he kept doing it all
- 54:55Speaker 6: the way to the white, I was like, all right,
- 54:57Speaker 6: this might be something.
- 54:59Speaker 3: And I feel like I know Sam really well. He
- 55:03Speaker 3: was going to do everything he can to stay out there.
- 55:06Speaker 3: But it's just one of those things where you had
- 55:08Speaker 3: to go get it looked at.
- 55:10Speaker 1: Through a long season, just one game, what is the
- 55:12Speaker 1: value of getting a win like this when it looks
- 55:15Speaker 1: so bleak there between half-quarters or whatever?
- 55:17Speaker 6: What does it mean long-term?
- 55:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, any win in this league is huge,
- 55:24Speaker 3: especially the first one of the year against a team
- 55:30Speaker 3: that was obviously very good the year before. It just,
- 55:36Speaker 3: instead of starting here, you started here. That's really the
- 55:38Speaker 3: only difference. We're going to go attack this coming week
- 55:43Speaker 3: with the same diligence that we attacked this week with and, again,
- 55:46Speaker 3: see where we're at after week two, week three.
- 55:48Speaker 6: Week four, and just take it one week at a time.
- 55:51Speaker 11: Drew, you're a whiteboard at home.
- 55:53Speaker 2: Can you think of the most random moment when you
- 55:56Speaker 2: felt the urge to go to it in the middle
- 55:59Speaker 2: of the night, early in the morning, friends over?
- 56:03Speaker 3: I'll say that every day I get home to do that.
- 56:08Speaker 3: I have to erase things that were not drawn by me. Um,
- 56:16Speaker 3: that's probably the most random thing about that whiteboard. Um,
- 56:19Speaker 3: I think it's a good time killer for my wife
- 56:22Speaker 3: at home at some point with the kiddo.
- 56:25Speaker 6: And, uh, yeah, so it's fun. I get to smile
- 56:27Speaker 6: right as I start to do it. And Kind of
- 56:29Speaker 6: remember why.
- 56:29Speaker 2: You're doing it.
- 56:31Speaker 15: Have they ever cooked up a good play, your wife
- 56:35Speaker 15: and kid?
- 56:35Speaker 6: They haven't, no.
- 56:36Speaker 3: Honestly, the whole thing ends up almost black, and it
- 56:38Speaker 3: just scribbles everywhere.
- 56:44Speaker 6: It's quiet. It's quiet in bed. After two kids, you
- 56:48Speaker 6: kind of realize there's a lot of quiet times in
- 56:50Speaker 6: bed when you just lay there like, What are we doing? Yeah, no,
- 56:57Speaker 6: she understands. She gets it. But still tell her I
- 57:01Speaker 6: love her, give her a little kiss, and go to sleep.
- 57:08Speaker 2: That was Drew Locke last night, the veteran reserve backup
- 57:12Speaker 2: quarterback who was in starter mode last night for the
- 57:15Speaker 2: last three and a half quarters. Six years now that
- 57:18Speaker 2: he's been a backup in the league. First two years
- 57:20Speaker 2: in the league in Denver, a second-round pick. He was
- 57:22Speaker 2: the Broncos' starting quarterback. He led the league in interceptions
- 57:25Speaker 2: during that time. They benched him three games into 0-3
- 57:29Speaker 2: start of his third season. And ever since then, he's
- 57:31Speaker 2: been a backup. Got a chance as a starter with
- 57:33Speaker 2: the New York Giants in 2024 when Daniel Jones got injured.
- 57:37Speaker 2: Didn't go well either for a bad Giants team. By
- 57:39Speaker 2: the end of that season, he was a free agent again.
- 57:41Speaker 2: The Seahawks signed him back. He didn't play barely anything
- 57:45Speaker 2: in any snaps at all last year when Sam Darnold
- 57:47Speaker 2: had such a great season. Then Darnold goes down five
- 57:49Speaker 2: plays into the new season. Drew Locke comes in. Voila.
- 57:53Speaker 2: Wins the game 13-10 last night. It appears Sam Darnold
- 57:56Speaker 2: will not play in Arizona in Week 2 on September 20th.
- 57:59Speaker 2: Mike McDonald updating that this morning on his coach's show,
- 58:03Speaker 2: saying he believes Drew Locke's going to make at least
- 58:05Speaker 2: the next start in Week 2. Then in Week 3,
- 58:08Speaker 2: they go to Washington. before they come home for week four.
- 58:11Speaker 2: So it could be a game, maybe two, that Darnold
- 58:14Speaker 2: misses and more Drew Locke. Cooper Cupp will be on
- 58:17Speaker 2: the field for those games, health-willing. The two-time Super Bowl-winning
- 58:23Speaker 2: wide receiver last night who had a touchdown negated by
- 58:25Speaker 2: his own false start, but he and George Helani were
- 58:28Speaker 2: switching positions on an audible call. He talked to us
- 58:31Speaker 2: then about the belief that this team has when games
- 58:34Speaker 2: like that, 10-0 late third quarter, they still believe and
- 58:37Speaker 2: expected they would win. I thought it was an interesting
- 58:39Speaker 2: perspective on expectations and the mental outlook teams have in
- 58:43Speaker 2: the fourth quarter. This was Cooper Cup last night.
- 58:45Speaker 16: What can you say about the performance that Drew just
- 58:47Speaker 16: had out there, getting thrust into the game, Sam going
- 58:50Speaker 16: out and doing what he did.
- 58:52Speaker 5: Especially in the second half?
- 58:53Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, he did a phenomenal job. Basically took
- 58:57Speaker 10: no reps with any of the guys that were out
- 58:59Speaker 10: there all week.
- 59:01Speaker 8: And you can see the onus that he puts on
- 59:06Speaker 8: himself to be ready, though, Um, when the time comes
- 59:09Speaker 8: and there's, there's extra time that he spends out there
- 59:11Speaker 8: on the field, extra time he spends with the coaches
- 59:13Speaker 8: to make sure, you know, um, it's the last thing
- 59:15Speaker 8: you want is for, you know, Sam to have to
- 59:17Speaker 8: not be there.
- 59:18Speaker 10: Um, but man, Drew's done an unbelievable job preparing, um,
- 59:21Speaker 10: did a great job for us today.
- 59:22Speaker 6: What can you.
- 59:23Speaker 15: Say about the job Ryan Fleury did first game of
- 59:25Speaker 15: call plays, starting quarterback one drive in and the engineer
- 59:29Speaker 15: in the second half?
- 59:30Speaker 2: Yeah, he did an unbelievable job.
- 59:32Speaker 10: A lot of, I mean, not how we probably thought
- 59:34Speaker 10: the first game calling was going to go. But yeah,
- 59:37Speaker 10: I think he did a great job. And even, I mean,
- 59:41Speaker 10: you lose Sam, but we also, I think, offensively, just
- 59:43Speaker 10: as players, we shot ourselves in the foot way too much.
- 59:46Speaker 10: A lot of stuff that we've just got to clean up.
- 59:48Speaker 10: But he did a great job just being consistent there.
- 59:52Speaker 10: Great to me. I even saw him smile a little
- 59:54Speaker 10: bit on the sideline, so that's a big deal.
- 59:56Speaker 2: The touchdown that would have been a touchdown, did you
- 59:59Speaker 2: realize the play clock was running down and the snap
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: was going to happen before you got set, or what
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: happened on that one?
- 1:00:03Speaker 10: Well, we actually ended up canning protection play. We got
- 1:00:07Speaker 10: a play call come in with a motion, and then
- 1:00:10Speaker 10: Drew was able to, in that short amount of time,
- 1:00:16Speaker 10: get the play changed to what we needed to, get
- 1:00:17Speaker 10: the protection changed so the back's now moving, I'm moving,
- 1:00:20Speaker 10: and that's where things, you know, you got a bunch
- 1:00:21Speaker 10: of people moving, trying to get things lined up, and
- 1:00:24Speaker 10: just were up against the clock there.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: How much of the belief that you guys have built
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: in the locker room over the last 12 months lead
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: to something like this?
- 1:00:33Speaker 10: I think there's something to be said in the NFL
- 1:00:35Speaker 10: about expectation that you have for yourself. I think you
- 1:00:40Speaker 10: can get into games through whatever your experience has been
- 1:00:45Speaker 10: in football and you get into that last four minutes
- 1:00:49Speaker 10: there and You either have this expectation that you're going
- 1:00:52Speaker 10: to find a way to win or you have the
- 1:00:54Speaker 10: expectation that something's going to go wrong and you're going.
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: To find a way to lose.
- 1:00:57Speaker 10: And we've got a lot of guys on this team.
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: I would say.
- 1:01:01Speaker 10: Just about everyone on this team is, if not everyone,
- 1:01:05Speaker 10: has the expectation that we're going to find a way
- 1:01:06Speaker 10: to win the game. And that goes a long way,
- 1:01:09Speaker 10: and there's power behind that. And it's honestly why in
- 1:01:13Speaker 10: this league you've seen teams that just seem like they
- 1:01:15Speaker 10: find a way to lose over and over again. There's
- 1:01:18Speaker 10: other teams that do just find a way to win games. And,
- 1:01:20Speaker 10: you know, that last drive, defense did a great job
- 1:01:25Speaker 10: finding a way to come up with a turnover.
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: You know, that's it.
- 1:01:34Speaker 10: Everything looks like, everything sounds like you're looking at, you know,
- 1:01:38Speaker 10: hopefully going, like having an opportunity in overtime to be
- 1:01:40Speaker 10: able to win it. But Job goes out there and
- 1:01:43Speaker 10: does a great job and wins it for us there.
- 1:01:45Speaker 10: So it speaks a lot to, you know, like you said,
- 1:01:48Speaker 10: you talked about the work.
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: That went into it.
- 1:01:49Speaker 10: But I think there's also, because of the work that's
- 1:01:51Speaker 10: gone into it, there's an expectation about what these outcomes
- 1:01:55Speaker 10: are going to be.
- 1:01:56Speaker 15: Joe, about that pick, the first two scores came after interceptions.
- 1:01:59Speaker 15: Just what can you say about the defense, especially that
- 1:02:02Speaker 15: second half effort?
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, they played lights out for us.
- 1:02:06Speaker 10: You know, I think the first half we weren't able
- 1:02:08Speaker 10: to gain much going offensively. We were just kind of
- 1:02:13Speaker 10: out of our rhythm. We had some long third downs,
- 1:02:16Speaker 10: and the third downs that we, you know, should have,
- 1:02:19Speaker 10: you know, converted on were just miscommunications and things like
- 1:02:21Speaker 10: that just weren't good. Not good enough, but in the
- 1:02:24Speaker 10: second half, I thought the complimentary football is really what
- 1:02:26Speaker 10: came alive, right?
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: You saw, you.
- 1:02:29Speaker 10: Know, Dicko does an unbelievable job pinning the Patriots back.
- 1:02:34Speaker 10: Defense does a great job holding them there. We get
- 1:02:36Speaker 10: great field position then, you know, offensively, and it's just
- 1:02:40Speaker 10: all those things go into, you know, creating points, giving
- 1:02:43Speaker 10: us opportunities to get into the plays that we want to,
- 1:02:46Speaker 10: to be able to attack guys offensively, and But, yeah,
- 1:02:49Speaker 10: it was just, there's some great examples there of complimentary football,
- 1:02:53Speaker 10: and we talk about that all the time.
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: What was the reaction on the sidelines seeing Sam go down,
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: go to the locker room? How did you guys sort
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: of go through, turn the page and rally behind Drew?
- 1:03:03Speaker 10: Yeah, well, I mean, I wasn't sure exactly what was
- 1:03:06Speaker 10: going on. You know, coach came up and just said, hey,
- 1:03:09Speaker 10: Drew's going for us. And, you know, and then it's like, okay, well,
- 1:03:13Speaker 10: let's find ways to make plays for him, find a
- 1:03:15Speaker 10: way to, bring things alive. And, you know, in the moment,
- 1:03:19Speaker 10: I mean, you're hurting for Sam, obviously. But in the moment,
- 1:03:23Speaker 10: you've got to find ways to move forward and figure
- 1:03:25Speaker 10: out how you're going to go out there and win
- 1:03:26Speaker 10: a football game.
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: That was Cooper Cup last night. Kind of a quiet
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: night for him. Three catches, but had a touchdown negated.
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: On that play that he got the touchdown negated in
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: the third quarter, it would have been a 10-7 game
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: had it counted. Instead, they had to settle for a
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: field goal, make it 10-3. Drew Locke changed the play.
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: And I haven't gone back to look at how late
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: in the play clock it was, but it looked like
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: it must have been late enough that they were in
- 1:03:53Speaker 2: a hurry. And Locke moved back into shotgun formation so
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: hurriedly he ran into Helani as Helani was trying to
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: set in the other side of the backfield. And then
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: he moved Cup on his play call. You could hear
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: him yelling, can, can, can. Meaning can the play. We're
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: going to go to another one. And it caused Cup
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: to have to shift. And Cup's shift didn't stop. If
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: you had more than one guy in motion... And he's resetting.
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: He has to be set for a full second. Both
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: of those guys have to be set a full second.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: Helani was set, but Kup wasn't. And that's what the
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: illegal shift call was. A live ball foul to let
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: the play go. Touchdown. Nobody underneath coverage. Easy score, but
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: the illegal shift negated it.
- 1:04:31Speaker 7: That was a little confusing, yes.
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: And I asked Kup about it. You heard him. I
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: don't know if in that clip you heard him say about, yeah,
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: we just kind of messed up the audible call. And
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: the play clock had to have been a factor because
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: otherwise Lockwood would have snapped it. Wow. Cup was not
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: quite yet set. It looked like he was hurting against
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: the play cock there. Four, nine, four, five, one. The
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: coming odds text on your impressions of last night, the
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: first Seahawks game week one. So week one's like that.
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: It's sometimes it's ugly. I'd said it'd probably be a
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: low scoring defensive game because week ones just are like that.
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: Nehemiah Pritchett really helped himself last night.
- 1:05:06Speaker 5: Yeah, he did.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: Allowed Mike McDonald to play nickel and have Witherspoon inside
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: like he wants to. Rodney Thomas really helped himself last
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: night in a, fill-in role when Tai Okada was out injured.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: Your thoughts on the Seahawks. We'll read those back next.
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: We have a couple talkbacks. We'll play back in at 1135.
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: Fact or fiction. Jessen's going to hook you up with
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: her pick.
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: You match wits with her. Fact, agree. Fiction, disagree to
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: 49451 for a chance to win $ 1, 000 from the Lucky
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: Eagle Casino and Hotel.
- 1:05:32Speaker 7: Ready for facts, folks.
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: Oh, coming up next. We only deal in facts on
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: this show. Put it this way. If you want to
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: win $ 1, 000, text fact at 1135. If you want to
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: not win $ 1, 000, text fiction. That's pretty much how it
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: works on this show.
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: Coming up next on 93.3 KJR FM.
- 1:05:47Speaker 5: Okay, Greg, what do you think about this, your opinion?
- 1:06:05Speaker 12: So the commentator talked about not playing the starters during preseason.
- 1:06:12Speaker 12: and that it showed a lot of rust compared to
- 1:06:18Speaker 12: the potential of getting injured the preseason versus the rust
- 1:06:25Speaker 12: that showed in the first half. I mean, all the
- 1:06:27Speaker 12: penalties off, all the different mistakes and stuff they're making.
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: Your opinion.
- 1:06:32Speaker 13: Hey, can somebody explain what's going on with that offsides
- 1:06:36Speaker 13: call on their fourth down.
- 1:06:38Speaker 11: Play where they, I think it was the third quarter,
- 1:06:42Speaker 11: I thought for sure that everything was good there.
- 1:06:45Speaker 17: Greg, Jess, that sounds so good. You guys are fantastic together.
- 1:06:49Speaker 17: Greg in Huntington Beach. I heard this take last night.
- 1:06:51Speaker 17: Too good not to share. Last year, week one, Niners
- 1:06:54Speaker 17: are driving. Seahawks are up 13-10. Brock Purdy rolls right,
- 1:06:57Speaker 17: floats in the end zone.
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: Reek Willen goes blind, doesn't make a play. Seahawks lose.
- 1:07:02Speaker 9: Fast forward to this year. Seahawks are up 13-10. Drake
- 1:07:07Speaker 9: May rolls right, floats it into the end zone. Josh
- 1:07:11Speaker 9: Jobe makes the play, the guy you replaced in the line.
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: All is right. All right, well, thanks to Greg Hanging
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: the Beats, long-time guy. I used to talk to him
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: on the show in 2024 with Chris Kidd. Let me
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: get to the offsides first. You almost never see offsides
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: on an offensive lineman. I talked to Anthony Bradford about
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: it last night. He was on the right side of
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: the line, and I thought maybe he was the one
- 1:07:32Speaker 2: called for it. He said that the officials told Abe
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: Lucas his shoulder pad was offside. Come on, dude. They
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: said that the line officials came in and told Bradford
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: and Lucas that we're being really strict on these tush-push
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: plays now, and you guys can't get away with anything. Now,
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: that's counter to what the officials said when they came
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: to the training camp for the Seahawks, and the referee,
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: Craig Rolstead, said... that the NFL is not telling them
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: push-push has to be officiated more stringently. The line official
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: last night said, yes, they are. They have to. They're
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: being really strict. Bradford told me at his locker last
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: night after the game that they went to the iPad
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: on the sideline and re-watched it, and none of them
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: thought that was a penalty. Of course, they're Seahawks. They
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: got called for it. They ruined a fourth and one
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: and moved it to fourth and six. But that's what happened.
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: A shoulder pad in the neutral zone by Abe Lucas
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: was the reason for that penalty.
- 1:08:24Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: You heard it here first. Nobody else talked to Luke
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: Bradford about that. I didn't even write that. That's what happens.
- 1:08:30Speaker 7: But you did talk to him.
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: You get content, yeah. And the other thing about, what
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: was the first thing? It was about, oh.
- 1:08:37Speaker 5: Okay, great.
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: What do you think about this? They're playing in the preseason. Yeah.
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: My theory is the players make too much money, are
- 1:08:45Speaker 2: too valuable, it's not worth the risk. The preseasons are
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: jokes anyway. Get rid of the whole thing. They don't
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: need it. College football doesn't need it, and the first
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: games are somewhat disjointed, too. My theory, of the Seahawks
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: in particular is they have such a great defense that
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: they can just roll out and play as is and
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: win games with their defense like they did last night. Remember,
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: the Seahawks spotted the Patriots those 10 points. Josh Jobe
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: beaten soundly on a flea flicker, was way out of position,
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: the P.I. on the goal line. If Drake May's pass
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: hadn't been so terrible, it would have been a touchdown anyway. P.I.
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: to the one-yard line in the next play, a touchdown pass.
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: And then Chaz Surratt, who's the only reason he's on
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: the team is to make smart special teams plays, a
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: veteran player, runs in and roughs the kicker because he
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: hit his plant leg after he kicked. 15-yard penalty. They
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: went from punting the ball back into the Seahawks to
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: giving up the ball and moving it into field goal position.
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: That's 10 points right there for the Patriots. Up now,
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: Factor Fiction. It's your shot at our weekly $ 1, 000.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: And the $ 10, 000 grand prize.
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: It's Factor Fiction.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: Proudly presented by Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel.
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: Where every day feels lucky. Factor Fiction is on. Sports
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: Radio 93.3. KJR FM. I know I can hear all
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: you say, quit talking, Bell. Let's get the pick because
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: it's past 1135. Fact or Fiction presented by Lucky Eagle
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: Casino and Hotel. We do it every day, 735, 1135, 235,
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: and 335. We'll make a pick based on the upcoming
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: college or pro game schedule for the week, either against
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: the spread or the total over and under points. Listeners
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: will have 12 minutes to text fact if they agree
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: or fiction if they disagree to 49451. If you get
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: it right and match with so that you'll be entered
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: in a drawing to win $ 1, 000 among all the winners,
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: Anders and Hurst will draw them on Monday. Whoever wins
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: the most of the contest that runs through December 11th,
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: Army-Navy Friday... Whoever has the most wins, it pays you
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: to play a lot of times during a week, up
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: to 20 times. Whoever has the most wins will win
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: $ 10, 000 from the Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel. Jessamyn, your floor. Yes,
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: it is.
- 1:11:01Speaker 4: So I'll get my pick in and I'll explain why.
- 1:11:03Speaker 4: I'm taking the Cardinals plus... Ten and a half. They
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: are getting ten and a half. And I will tell
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: you why, because I do think they're going to lose,
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: but I don't think it's going to be.
- 1:11:16Speaker 7: By that much. I can explain myself.
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: They're heading into the Chargers territory, which is now in
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: Los Angeles. And I just don't think they're going to
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: lose by as much as is projected, which I have
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: on Vegas Insider right now at ten and a half.
- 1:11:35Speaker 4: And I would take that 100%. Fact, if you agree
- 1:11:39Speaker 4: with me and my pie-eyed view, or fiction if you don't.
- 1:11:43Speaker 4: But I just, I think they're going to lose, which
- 1:11:47Speaker 4: is great for us here in the NFC West. But
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: I don't think they're going to lose by that much.
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: And that's just like when I see a huge point
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: spread like that, I kind of bet on the team
- 1:11:59Speaker 4: that is getting that many points. So Cardinals at Chargers
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: this Sunday at 125 p.m. I am taking the Cardinals
- 1:12:08Speaker 4: plus 10 and a half.
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: You heard the woman. If you want to win $ 1, 000,
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: text FACT to 49451 saying you agree with Jessamyn saying
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: the Cardinals aren't going to get boat raced by more
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: than 11 or more points in Los Angeles against the
- 1:12:20Speaker 2: Chargers on Sunday afternoon.
- 1:12:24Speaker 7: In week one, that's not going to happen.
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: If you think the Cardinals, with Jacoby Brissett, will lose
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: by 10 or fewer points or outweigh win the game
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: against the Chargers in L.A., text FICTION to 49451. Get
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: some facts and come back and see me. Get some
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: facts and come back and see me.
- 1:12:41Speaker 5: Get some facts and come back and see me.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: Thank you, Jim. I'll have another pick tomorrow at 11.35.
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: Ian will have another pick tomorrow at 2.35. Dave Softy-Moller
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: and Dick Fane will have another pick today at 3.35.
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: That's how it works. Chuck has it at 7.35 every morning.
- 1:12:56Speaker 4: So many opportunities to win $ 1, 000.
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: Up to 20 in most regular game weeks.
- 1:13:02Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: So the more you win, the more chance you have
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: to win $ 10, 000. But you only have to win once
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: to win $ 1, 000 this week. That's how it works. So
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: that's what's cool.
- 1:13:11Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: If you want to just parachute in and parachute out, okay,
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: that's cool. Although parachuting out would be difficult.
- 1:13:16Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, that would be a gust of wind.
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: I jumped out of an airplane, and I never parachuted up.
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: I always went to the ground. Five jump jump in
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: the Army. I was airborne qualified. Jumped all five. It
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: was really cool. I had a toggle parachute once, the
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: kind that you pull.
- 1:13:32Speaker 7: Oh, that's awesome. You could control where you went?
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: At the last jump or two, they gave us toggle chutes.
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: The first were just zip line tied to the interior
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: line on the C-130, and you jumped out, and you
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: had no choice but The chute came out once you
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: went a certain distance from the fuselage of the plane. And,
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: in fact, the toggle one was the same way. Once
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: you got past a certain point on the plane, the
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: parachute deployed, but then you got to steer that one.
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: That was cool. We were in Fort Benning, Georgia. This
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: is one of the cool things about airborne school. There
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: aren't many. When you leave the airfield, you're in Georgia,
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: Fort Benning, Georgia. When you land in the drop zone,
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: you're in Alabama. That's the only time I've been in
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: the state of Alabama with jumping into it out of
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: an airplane.
- 1:14:15Speaker 7: That's actually really cool.
- 1:14:16Speaker 2: It's really weird. The only time I've been in Alabama.
- 1:14:19Speaker 2: Jessamyn McIntyre says Cardinals plus the ten and a half
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: at the Chargers on Sunday. If you agree, text FACT
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: to 49451. If you disagree, text FICTION to 49451. Up next,
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: the mayor of Maple Valley, Ian Furness, to tell us
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: what he's got cooking on his show, 12 to 3
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: on 93.3 KJRFM. Welcome back. Greg Bell, Jessamyn McIntyre with
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: you on 93.3 KJF. There's a 12-minute window. I guess
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: it's over now, huh? Or it's close.
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: It's close.
- 1:15:18Speaker 2: You might still have a minute or two. Jessamyn says
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: Cardinals plus 10.5 at the Chargers on Sunday. If you agree,
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: text FACT to 49451 on the last minute under the wire.
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: Ian Furness is trying to compute that. If you disagree,
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: text FICTION to 49451. If you missed our interviews with
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: a playback of the interviews with Drew Locke, Cooper Cup,
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: You go to the iHeartRadio at 933KJR. com or 933KJR. com, whatever.
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: 933KJR is the iHeart one and. com is the website.
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: I think you know how the internet works by now.
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: And the radio station, 93.3 KJR FM.
- 1:15:52Speaker 7: Here we go.
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: 206 is Air Assault School, is that right? Repelling out
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: of helicopters. Yeah, in Kentucky. Did I shout air? Did
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: you shout airborne? Airborne. Damn right I did. A jump
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: master from Sergeant Bididoe. From Louisiana. He was great. He
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: was our jump master. Sergeant Bilodeau.
- 1:16:13Speaker 7: Did you know that Greg jumped out of planes?
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: I just found that out. It was Sergeant Bilodeau. Sergeant Bilodeau.
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: The women, this was in 1992, the women in jump
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: school wore double digits on their helmets. The men wore
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: three digits, triple digits. So Sergeant Bilodeau called the women
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: double digits. And if the double digits or even the
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: man would hesitate and not jump out of the airplane,
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: he'd go, Sergeant Billy Doe would go, double digits, I'm
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: scared of you. I'll never forget that. It's ingrained in
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: my head.
- 1:16:49Speaker 7: I wouldn't mind being called a double digit, to be honest.
- 1:16:51Speaker 7: Double digits.
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: Hey, double digits. Oh, that's pretty funny. Why am I
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: talking about this?
- 1:16:57Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 1:16:57Speaker 11: We're going to talk Seahawks.
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: Let's go on. Let's talk Seahawks. What'd you think? Are
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: we talking Seahawks today at all?
- 1:17:01Speaker 4: No.
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: Okay, good. We should probably bring that up.
- 1:17:03Speaker 6: Maybe.
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: Drew Locke, White Knight. Coming in right in on no
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: preparation at all. Yeah. Now let's put your Seahawks fan
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: hat on. You're concerned about Sam Darnold's injury. Yeah.
- 1:17:21Speaker 11: I would say on a scale of 1 to 10,
- 1:17:24Speaker 11: probably in the 7 range. I'm always concerned about an injury.
- 1:17:30Speaker 11: It doesn't matter what the sport or who it is
- 1:17:32Speaker 11: or what it is because– Oftentimes, what you end up, oh,
- 1:17:38Speaker 11: it's not bad.
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: It's this.
- 1:17:39Speaker 11: And then you find out, oh, actually, it's really bad.
- 1:17:42Speaker 11: It's this or this. I don't know. We'll be interested.
- 1:17:45Speaker 11: I know he had his coach's show on the flagship
- 1:17:47Speaker 11: today and was somewhat optimistic a little.
- 1:17:50Speaker 6: Bit, but.
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: We're not worrying about Sam Darnold.
- 1:17:52Speaker 11: Which is kind of what he said last night, right?
- 1:17:53Speaker 11: It was like his best news.
- 1:17:54Speaker 2: In different words.
- 1:17:55Speaker 11: So really, there's no update from last night.
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: To this morning. Other than he did say, when he
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: was asked, I tried to ask. So here's the funny thing.
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: I guess some texter said NFL Network roasted me for
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: asking the question, will Darnold play in the next game?
- 1:18:07Speaker 5: What?
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: And his host on his flagship station asked the same
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: question this morning.
- 1:18:11Speaker 4: Time out.
- 1:18:11Speaker 11: Why would you be roasted for that? Said I was
- 1:18:13Speaker 11: a moron. Who said that?
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: Some texter, you know.
- 1:18:17Speaker 11: The texter said that?
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: Someone at NFL Network, according to the texter, said I
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: was a moron. Whoever that reporter is is a moronic
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: question for asking that.
- 1:18:26Speaker 11: That's the only question to ask.
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: Exactly. But it also would give an– his answer gives
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: an indication of how severe they think the injury is.
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: He could either say, oh, it's a short-term thing or
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: we don't know or there's a lot of nuance and
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: gray that you can get out of that answer. Right, right.
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: That's okay. One of our Rhodes Scholar texters texted that
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: into us.
- 1:18:42Speaker 11: Well, 3 o'clock he has his other news conference, right?
- 1:18:45Speaker 12: Correct.
- 1:18:46Speaker 11: By then, there's no more we're waiting for CTI or
- 1:18:49Speaker 11: all the stuff. MRI and CT scans. By 3 o'clock today,
- 1:18:54Speaker 11: you should have all that information.
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: If he's divulging it, he should give it to us
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: at 3. Now, he did say this morning that when
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: he was asked by his host on the flagship, do
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: you think Darnold will play and miss multiple games? Will
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: he play in Arizona? He said, I think Drew Locke's
- 1:19:07Speaker 2: going to play. But then he said that might be
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: a hedge.
- 1:19:12Speaker 11: I mean, it's the only thing on their schedule, honestly,
- 1:19:15Speaker 11: in the near future that you can go, okay, let's
- 1:19:18Speaker 11: just get– I mean, I would even go this far.
- 1:19:22Speaker 11: Okada hamstring, you know that's kind of a pain. It's
- 1:19:24Speaker 11: like those don't heal in two or three days.
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: Correct.
- 1:19:27Speaker 11: I wonder if yesterday was a Super Bowl if Eamon
- 1:19:29Speaker 11: Warrie could have played.
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: I think that he would have.
- 1:19:32Speaker 11: And I think you kind of, like, it's, okay, game
- 1:19:34Speaker 11: one and all that. It's New England at home. You
- 1:19:36Speaker 11: should be all right.
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: Matter of fact, he did play in the Super Bowl
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: four days after spraining the ankle leading to head surgery.
- 1:19:41Speaker 11: Correct. But, you know, as far as Locke is concerned,
- 1:19:44Speaker 11: you could not have a softer landing for his first
- 1:19:48Speaker 11: start than Arizona.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: Correct.
- 1:19:50Speaker 11: And then you've got the 10 days.
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: And this is a guy who won a start against
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles in December 2023, which
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: is his last meaningful start. I mean, he was.
- 1:20:00Speaker 11: He's such a goofball, this guy. Like, he really is.
- 1:20:04Speaker 11: But it's probably the perfect demeanor to have in the
- 1:20:06Speaker 11: role that he has. You know, like I was texting
- 1:20:09Speaker 11: you last night, you know, because I'm never sure, I'll
- 1:20:12Speaker 11: be honest with you, it feels like the rule changes
- 1:20:14Speaker 11: over the years, but, you know, Milrow's an inactive player,
- 1:20:18Speaker 11: but he does dress as a third quarterback.
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: Emergency third quarterback. So they do have it. Can only
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: play if the other two get injured.
- 1:20:22Speaker 11: Other two get hurt, yeah, which is always just the
- 1:20:24Speaker 11: dumbest thing in the world. But that aside, at least, like,
- 1:20:27Speaker 11: because I was thinking... Whoa, he is dressed, right? And
- 1:20:29Speaker 11: then I, they actually, I saw him pretty quick after that, but, um,
- 1:20:32Speaker 11: you know, cause I, my mind always just goes back
- 1:20:35Speaker 11: to San Francisco and the NFC championship game against Philadelphia.
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:20:39Speaker 11: When, you know, Christian McCaffrey is just running, you know,
- 1:20:41Speaker 11: wildcat the whole game, uh, because they only had two
- 1:20:44Speaker 11: quarterbacks dressed and they both got hurt and they ended
- 1:20:46Speaker 11: up bringing Purdy back in.
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: I think that's after that point that they reinstated.
- 1:20:50Speaker 11: I think it was. That's, that's what I think it was.
- 1:20:51Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:20:52Speaker 11: So that would have been three years ago. And so, um,
- 1:20:54Speaker 11: but yeah, that's, that's, It's just one of those things
- 1:20:58Speaker 11: that how many times have we seen guys limp off
- 1:21:00Speaker 11: a field and you think, oh, he's walking off under
- 1:21:02Speaker 11: his own power. He's okay, what have you, and away
- 1:21:04Speaker 11: you go. And then he's out for the season or
- 1:21:08Speaker 11: he's out until December, whatever it might be. So until
- 1:21:11Speaker 11: we get a definitive answer, and I don't know if
- 1:21:14Speaker 11: we will get a definitive answer, until we get a
- 1:21:15Speaker 11: definitive answer, I guess I would hold my breath like
- 1:21:19Speaker 11: a lot of Seahawks fans. But also knowing the thing
- 1:21:22Speaker 11: that everybody said last night, which is true, they probably
- 1:21:24Speaker 11: have the best number two in the league in a
- 1:21:25Speaker 11: lot of ways.
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:21:26Speaker 11: And that's a good thing to have. And, and, you know,
- 1:21:29Speaker 11: they've Greg, I think you'd agree with me that, you know,
- 1:21:32Speaker 11: Schneider doesn't like drafting quarterbacks, but he does like having
- 1:21:35Speaker 11: quality depth at quarterback.
- 1:21:37Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:21:37Speaker 11: Whether it be the late Tavares Jackson, Matt Flynn, uh,
- 1:21:41Speaker 11: obviously Gino for a while, like he's had. The only
- 1:21:45Speaker 11: time they didn't... I know.
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: What you're going to say, because I'm about to say it.
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: It bit them. It did. It bit them. That was
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: the only time Russell Wilson missed snaps.
- 1:21:52Speaker 11: When Boykin was the backup.
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: Trayvon Boykin had to come in, and that was the
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: day that he said, never again. He traded for Brett Hundley.
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: He got traded and got Drew Locke. He insisted Drew
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: Locke was part of that Russell Wilson trade.
- 1:22:04Speaker 11: Because Russ shouldn't have played a few games.
- 1:22:06Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:22:08Speaker 11: But they had no choice.
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: Trevoin Boykin, that scared him into their current backup.
- 1:22:12Speaker 11: As well it should.
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: What do you got today?
- 1:22:15Speaker 11: Well, our first visit of the year with Ross Tucker
- 1:22:17Speaker 11: is going to join us at 1220 today. He is
- 1:22:19Speaker 11: now the number two analyst on CBS, by the way,
- 1:22:22Speaker 11: because of Tony Romo. Everybody got bumped up.
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:22:25Speaker 11: Everybody got bumped up. He went from three to two.
- 1:22:28Speaker 11: He's working with Ian Eagle this year on CBS, also
- 1:22:30Speaker 11: does a ton of stuff on Westwood One. So he'll
- 1:22:32Speaker 11: join us every Thursday at 1220, his first visit today.
- 1:22:35Speaker 11: What a great day to have him on after the
- 1:22:37Speaker 11: Seahawks win yesterday. We'll get his thoughts later. You know,
- 1:22:39Speaker 11: Sarah's at 1.30 today. And then the unofficial start of
- 1:22:43Speaker 11: the weekend. Sorry, Jess, you're not here for it.
- 1:22:45Speaker 7: Hey, I've already been texting with Mike from Edmonds.
- 1:22:48Speaker 11: Oh, my gosh, yes. Our eclectic group will be texting
- 1:22:52Speaker 11: and calling.
- 1:22:52Speaker 7: I met him and his lovely wife, Colleen.
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: I thought you meant Mike from Edmonds because you live
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: in Edmonds with your husband. Which Mike from Edmonds?
- 1:23:00Speaker 11: Which Mike from Edmonds? But, yeah, we'll check in with
- 1:23:03Speaker 11: Brandon Funston at 2 o'clock. Let me just point out again,
- 1:23:07Speaker 11: it's 11.56. Yes, 57. We're late, as always. But 11.59.59
- 1:23:12Speaker 11: is too early to send in your text for Funston. 12?
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: Perfect.
- 1:23:16Speaker 11: Last week, before the season started, we had three that
- 1:23:19Speaker 11: were at 12.00. Five more texts that came in at
- 1:23:23Speaker 11: one second after the hour. So we'll get those in
- 1:23:26Speaker 11: at 2 o'clock.
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: That's Ian Furness with Anderson Airs from 12 until 3.
- 1:23:30Speaker 2: Jessalyn McIntyre and I thanking you for listening. Thanks for
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: your text. Thanks for your moron text and everything. Apparently
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: it was Chris Rose and Mary Ucci on NFL Network
- 1:23:37Speaker 2: talking about my moron comment. Yes. Cleveland Browns announcer. Maybe
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: that speaks for itself. Anyway, Mike Ben will be in
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: tomorrow and Monday. I'm going to Hawaii to see our daughter,
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: Ensign Cadet Sarah Bell. Maybe you could play Return of
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: the Mac in her honor, but no, maybe not. Mike
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: will have the high school football showcase tomorrow.
- 1:23:57Speaker 11: There we go.
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: Ian's up next. Thanks, Jessamyn.
