- 0:03Speaker 1: This is a podcast called twenty five whist talking and
- 0:08Speaker 1: they wear a whist so.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Yeah, it's too bad, But what did you expect?
- 0:13Speaker 1: It's a podcast called twenty five Whistles twenty whine win.
- 0:18Speaker 2: I blow it. You join a fantasy league, but people
- 0:21Speaker 2: you don't know.
- 0:22Speaker 3: I haven't joined yet. I got asked too, though. I
- 0:24Speaker 3: got a DM from someone that said I listened to
- 0:26Speaker 3: twenty five Whistles love you guys? Would you like to
- 0:29Speaker 3: play in our fantasy league? Just me and my buddies?
- 0:31Speaker 3: And I'm like, I don't know you. It's kind of weird.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Is there real money?
- 0:35Speaker 3: I haven't asked. I mean that even gone that far.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Because what will happen is if it's not real money,
- 0:40Speaker 2: you'll go yeah, then you'll forget all the time, and
- 0:42Speaker 2: you won't set your lineups, and you'll be that annoying
- 0:44Speaker 2: person and your players because you're not getting Because the
- 0:46Speaker 2: motivators are in a fantasy league to either win money
- 0:50Speaker 2: or beat your friends.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Yes, that's it, I know, but I'm telling you lately,
- 0:55Speaker 3: it's been I mean I'm lately meaning the last four
- 0:57Speaker 3: or five years is like Sunday comes and I've got
- 1:00Speaker 3: a whole checklist of things to do. Check this league,
- 1:03Speaker 3: make sure starters are good on this league.
- 1:05Speaker 2: It feels like it's too much DraftKings.
- 1:07Speaker 3: And then I'm just like, I'm not even having fun.
- 1:09Speaker 2: And not only that.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Skins Skins, Well, I don't have to do any prep
- 1:15Speaker 3: for skins. That was all done. And then but you're
- 1:18Speaker 3: just watching stress What are we doing?
- 1:19Speaker 4: What do we do the most stressful?
- 1:21Speaker 5: That one's the most stressful.
- 1:24Speaker 4: What are we doing as I can't do it?
- 1:25Speaker 3: Come on, come on, Kevin, It's not gonna be like
- 1:30Speaker 3: last year.
- 1:30Speaker 2: We're not gonna be You can't promise that.
- 1:33Speaker 3: Well what would be?
- 1:34Speaker 5: Yeah, it's gonna be worse than last year.
- 1:36Speaker 3: I hope not.
- 1:37Speaker 2: That was the worst year I've ever had in history
- 1:39Speaker 2: of it. Okay, what year was Year one? Where I
- 1:41Speaker 2: lost like a thousand dollars? But then I figured it out.
- 1:44Speaker 2: At least I understood how to play better. Your two
- 1:46Speaker 2: and your three made money. You're four. We lost a lot,
- 1:49Speaker 2: but everybody got hurt.
- 1:51Speaker 3: That was brutal.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Part of what are those the percentage getting like seventeen?
- 1:55Speaker 3: Yeah, he's divided three ways. Half half of it divided
- 1:58Speaker 3: three ways. So really, like it's not okay?
- 2:00Speaker 4: Do we know what I'm draft is yet or no?
- 2:02Speaker 2: No, okay, you know enough to eat, enough to commit?
- 2:04Speaker 2: We just keep putting. Yeah, so we do have a
- 2:08Speaker 2: couple of cool things coming up. Though. We do have
- 2:11Speaker 2: the new head coach of Kansas State football, call in Clin,
- 2:14Speaker 2: coming up. We'll talk to him. It's like kids do
- 2:17Speaker 2: the darnedest things. Because I thought he was like twelve. Yeah, yeah,
- 2:22Speaker 2: he's like thirty six. Yeah, but he looks very young.
- 2:25Speaker 2: And I remember him playing.
- 2:26Speaker 4: He was so good.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Yeah, he was awesome. So we'll talk to him. He's
- 2:29Speaker 2: a new head coach there. And then also doctor Goodrich,
- 2:32Speaker 2: who is the athletic director for Akron Sports, which is
- 2:37Speaker 2: Acron Football, which is where I'm trying to be the
- 2:39Speaker 2: assistant coach.
- 2:40Speaker 5: So what would be the first play?
- 2:43Speaker 3: He's not gonna tell you.
- 2:44Speaker 4: I don't.
- 2:45Speaker 2: I don't want Robert Morris to be listening.
- 2:48Speaker 4: That's true.
- 2:48Speaker 5: That is true.
- 2:49Speaker 4: Dang Robert Morris.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Game of the year.
- 2:52Speaker 2: You know they can't let me win, right, No, there's
- 2:55Speaker 2: no way you're gonna win. No, No, they have to, No,
- 2:57Speaker 2: they can't.
- 2:58Speaker 4: It'll look great, gotta look bad.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Well probably, but now because it all looks so rigged.
- 3:02Speaker 2: If I do win, I don't think people will think
- 3:04Speaker 2: it's rigged. Opposite, because they'll go they wouldn't rig it.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Everybody would know it's gotta be real, or will they
- 3:12Speaker 2: be it's a rig It's frustrating because I was kind
- 3:15Speaker 2: of hoping it wouldn't go as viral as it did.
- 3:18Speaker 4: Just he could a sneak in there.
- 3:19Speaker 3: Well, and now a lot of people are in it now.
- 3:21Speaker 2: If it was only mildly viral, I felt like maybe
- 3:24Speaker 2: I'd be the only person with some notoriety.
- 3:27Speaker 3: And they go through the bag, there's two names of you.
- 3:30Speaker 2: And now I see a lot of people are jumping in.
- 3:32Speaker 2: So but we'll talk to him. So I think it's
- 3:33Speaker 2: a hilarious idea. Kevin gave me this. He said, a
- 3:37Speaker 2: fan won a contest to call a game.
- 3:40Speaker 6: Yeah, an inning on the radio is like local or
- 3:42Speaker 6: Phillies radio broadcast.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Oh okay, so he's a broadcaster.
- 3:47Speaker 2: Yeah, during the third ending of a game against the
- 3:49Speaker 2: Washington Nationals. This Phillies fantastic winner pH a in fan Phil.
- 3:55Speaker 4: I like it.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Yeah. Lewis Cobb joined Sports Radio ninety four. W I
- 4:01Speaker 2: here he is. This is him thirty five seconds of
- 4:03Speaker 2: his call.
- 4:04Speaker 7: Peter, but the first pitch to our teas that's in
- 4:06Speaker 7: there for strike one, called fills with two in the
- 4:09Speaker 7: bottom of the second to take the lead. As we
- 4:13Speaker 7: start the top of the third. Now Peyter delivers. It's
- 4:16Speaker 7: bounced foul towards the filly's dug out and they count
- 4:22Speaker 7: one and one. Deli's winning the first two games of
- 4:27Speaker 7: this series, one more to go tomorrow night, and then
- 4:31Speaker 7: the three games set with the Blue Jays over the weekend.
- 4:33Speaker 7: Now Peter delivers. It's a check swing. It's a called
- 4:37Speaker 7: strike three. He got him.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Great job.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Sounds like an old school, traditional good broadcaster.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Real good job. Yeah, I'm surprised by that. I thought
- 4:48Speaker 3: there's gonna be.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Some uh well, it's hoping to be like a kid.
- 4:51Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Here's what he this is his friend on Twitter said
- 4:57Speaker 2: after the game. Because this guy does not have Twitter.
- 5:00Speaker 2: This is friends and he goes. I was his plus
- 5:02Speaker 2: one to this event. He has been an announcer for
- 5:04Speaker 2: Kid Sports for thirty years and used to be a
- 5:07Speaker 2: radio guide. This was his dream. He was happy to
- 5:09Speaker 2: hear all the positive comments. He doesn't have Twitter, but
- 5:11Speaker 2: I showed him the comments. It makes sense he has
- 5:13Speaker 2: a little background then, because he sounded here he really
- 5:16Speaker 2: is doing. That's pretty cool.
- 5:17Speaker 6: Now, if you're the other guys, the Phillies main guys,
- 5:19Speaker 6: are you like, it's kind of here to take my job?
- 5:21Speaker 3: No, he's not that good. But I mean, if I
- 5:25Speaker 3: were to stumble across that, it would sound pretty normal
- 5:27Speaker 3: to me, Like I'm listening to a broadcast, I.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Would think that was just a guy. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 5:32Speaker 2: good for him. That's pretty fun. You want to go
- 5:35Speaker 2: to the call and Cline interview, let's do it, Okay.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Here he is from Kansas State calling Klin. All right,
- 5:43Speaker 2: let's bring on coach Colin Klin. One of the greatest
- 5:45Speaker 2: players in Kansas State football history, the guy that's leading
- 5:48Speaker 2: the program into its next chapter. As head coach, he
- 5:51Speaker 2: helped lead the Wildcast to a Big twelve title. He's
- 5:53Speaker 2: in the Kansas State Ring of Honor, a Heisman finalist
- 5:56Speaker 2: in twenty twelve. Here he is coach Klin. And how's
- 5:59Speaker 2: it go? Get this?
- 6:01Speaker 8: Good? Good to see you?
- 6:02Speaker 2: Good to see you too, So like, how did this
- 6:05Speaker 2: all happen? I just want to throw that question at you.
- 6:07Speaker 2: How did this all happen?
- 6:10Speaker 8: Pretty much in a matter of hours.
- 6:12Speaker 9: I think in this profession things go at warp speed
- 6:15Speaker 9: towards the end of the year, and we had finished
- 6:18Speaker 9: our last game versus Texas the Friday right after Thanksgiving,
- 6:22Speaker 9: and you know, I had a couple of interviews that
- 6:25Speaker 9: weekend with some other schools and Monday got a text
- 6:29Speaker 9: from coach Climbing and something might be happening in a
- 6:32Speaker 9: k state And within a matter of hours it kind
- 6:35Speaker 9: of progressed from there.
- 6:37Speaker 2: So you and coach are still good then.
- 6:39Speaker 9: Oh yeah, I mean Coach Climban and I have a
- 6:43Speaker 9: really incredible relationship. And you know, he retained me when
- 6:46Speaker 9: Coach Snyder retired and I was on his staff and
- 6:49Speaker 9: retained me as his quarterbacks. Coach promoted me a couple
- 6:53Speaker 9: of years later when I made a move at offensive coordinator.
- 6:57Speaker 8: And our relationship.
- 6:59Speaker 9: Has always been really in very real, always putting the
- 7:03Speaker 9: best interest of the other on, you know, ahead of
- 7:07Speaker 9: our own, which which is rare in the world and
- 7:10Speaker 9: rare in this world for sure. And we've stayed in
- 7:14Speaker 9: good touch even the last couple of years.
- 7:15Speaker 8: When I was down in the A and M.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Coach climate texted me a couple of weeks ago and
- 7:19Speaker 2: asked me if he was coming to Nashville and his
- 7:21Speaker 2: wife was celebrated a major anniversarry and he was like,
- 7:23Speaker 2: can you tell me everything I need to do in Nashville?
- 7:25Speaker 2: So I wrote him out like this two page, like
- 7:28Speaker 2: very personal, like here's what you need to do. So,
- 7:30Speaker 2: coach client, I will extend that invitation to you. If
- 7:32Speaker 2: you come to town. You can hear me up. I
- 7:33Speaker 2: will lead you through all the Nashville things perfectly, just
- 7:36Speaker 2: like I did.
- 7:37Speaker 8: Coach, that sounds great, I'll take you up on it.
- 7:40Speaker 2: So we were down at TCU with coach Jamie Dixon,
- 7:43Speaker 2: who was massive for that program as a player now
- 7:47Speaker 2: the head basketball coach, and one of his things was, Hey,
- 7:50Speaker 2: you come here and you're the guy, but there's a
- 7:52Speaker 2: risk by the time something happened, you might not be
- 7:54Speaker 2: the guy anymore if you don't come and perform. Like
- 7:57Speaker 2: were you nervous about that? Come into where you are AO,
- 8:00Speaker 2: and now you're going to take over as the head guy.
- 8:03Speaker 8: Not really, you know, I think my my whole journey and.
- 8:09Speaker 9: Player coach offensive coordinator here, you know, and having watched
- 8:17Speaker 9: coach Snyder.
- 8:18Speaker 8: For many, many years, you know, if you're.
- 8:22Speaker 9: Thinking about that, your focus is in the wrong place,
- 8:24Speaker 9: and it's about you, you know, And I think I
- 8:27Speaker 9: have had some really really good examples and with the
- 8:30Speaker 9: background of my faith and having my mindset be truly
- 8:34Speaker 9: trying to serve and make an impact with the people
- 8:36Speaker 9: that you're around.
- 8:39Speaker 8: That's the focus.
- 8:39Speaker 9: That's been the focus, and trying to be excellent in
- 8:41Speaker 9: everything we do. The results are going to take care
- 8:44Speaker 9: of themselves, and and you know he's got all that cover.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Did you keep any good oil relationships from your time
- 8:52Speaker 2: with Texas A and M for for some funding up there.
- 8:57Speaker 8: I don't know about that. You know, they're a pretty
- 9:00Speaker 8: loyal crew down there, but no, it was. It was
- 9:05Speaker 8: a great experience for two years for sure.
- 9:08Speaker 2: That fan base at Texas A and M. And I
- 9:10Speaker 2: lived in Austin and I'm a long horned hater like hater,
- 9:13Speaker 2: I hate the Longhorns with the passion, and I'm not
- 9:16Speaker 2: I'm not really a Texas A and M fan, But
- 9:17Speaker 2: if you hate the Longhorns like I kind of like
- 9:19Speaker 2: I ride with you a little bit. But that that
- 9:21Speaker 2: Texas A and M fan base, I can appreciate how
- 9:24Speaker 2: cultish they are because I'm a razorbike fan and we
- 9:26Speaker 2: have to like be in the cult with each other
- 9:28Speaker 2: like pretty loving wild fan base, right, I.
- 9:32Speaker 9: Mean, there's no doubt and and you know, when you
- 9:35Speaker 9: look to it the I think what surprised me is
- 9:38Speaker 9: how down to earth they are top to bottom and
- 9:43Speaker 9: you know, grounded in their faith, family values, work ethic,
- 9:49Speaker 9: passion for obviously their school as a whole, not just
- 9:52Speaker 9: their football program, which is which is incredible, especial group
- 9:56Speaker 9: of people.
- 9:57Speaker 2: We came out with coach Climbing, and we worked out
- 10:00Speaker 2: and got in the football stadium and and you know,
- 10:02Speaker 2: spent a couple of hours out there in Manhattan, and
- 10:05Speaker 2: what we were surprised by is like how like real
- 10:09Speaker 2: like how great the facilities are? Like I don't we
- 10:11Speaker 2: did not expect that, but we got there. We were
- 10:13Speaker 2: blown away. So what is there when you come in?
- 10:17Speaker 2: Do you think this can be improved? And what now
- 10:19Speaker 2: do you see? And go, man, we have it pretty
- 10:21Speaker 2: awesome here.
- 10:22Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 10:23Speaker 9: I think that reaction, Bobby is pretty uh standard when
- 10:27Speaker 9: when we get people, we get recruits, we get families
- 10:30Speaker 9: to campus here and they feel the family type atmosphere,
- 10:35Speaker 9: but then the pride in excellence and striving to be
- 10:40Speaker 9: the best and and and our uh you know, our
- 10:43Speaker 9: our donors, support, our fans support is absolutely tremendous.
- 10:48Speaker 7: Uh.
- 10:48Speaker 9: Everything we've done has been has been raised with UH
- 10:52Speaker 9: private money and people that that care about our program
- 10:55Speaker 9: and and have been invested for a very very long time.
- 10:58Speaker 9: And I would put it up against anyone in the
- 11:00Speaker 9: country for sure.
- 11:01Speaker 2: I don't even like purple. And I was ready, I
- 11:03Speaker 2: had it on. I felt like, like coach, it looked good.
- 11:06Speaker 2: We were coming out the entrance like all that they
- 11:08Speaker 2: do a great job up there.
- 11:10Speaker 8: Come on out, come on out. We'll get you geared up.
- 11:13Speaker 2: The only problem is it's cold, Like it's just too
- 11:16Speaker 2: it's too cold for me. At what point do you
- 11:18Speaker 2: guys have to play cold weather football, meaning maybe you
- 11:21Speaker 2: don't throw as much. Is there a part of the
- 11:23Speaker 2: year where you kind of have to shift a bit
- 11:25Speaker 2: in case the weather gets bad?
- 11:28Speaker 9: Not really believe it or not. Like I've been fortunate.
- 11:32Speaker 9: I've only played in one snow game here in Manhattan.
- 11:37Speaker 9: Had a couple some rain, but you know, and some
- 11:40Speaker 9: colder weather. But really until about mid November is when
- 11:44Speaker 9: it starts. You know, you get a chance to have
- 11:46Speaker 9: just a really really hard cold snap. Funny story on
- 11:50Speaker 9: that that I think sometimes is a little bit of
- 11:53Speaker 9: a misnomer. I'm the one snow game I did coach here.
- 11:57Speaker 9: I wasn't even a player, I was a coach. In
- 11:59Speaker 9: my last game in twenty twenty three against Iowa State,
- 12:03Speaker 9: we had six inches of snow on the ground and
- 12:06Speaker 9: basically through for three hundred yards.
- 12:09Speaker 8: And so sometimes bad weather games are actually really good
- 12:13Speaker 8: to throw the football.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Pretty advantageous to know all the traditions though, right you're
- 12:17Speaker 2: coming to a program as the head coach, have buddies
- 12:19Speaker 2: that are head coaches. They have to learn everything like
- 12:21Speaker 2: super quick, but you know them all.
- 12:25Speaker 9: I think having a lay of the land, you know,
- 12:27Speaker 9: definitely gives you a head start, you know, I think,
- 12:31Speaker 9: and you kind of mentioned it earlier. Being a former
- 12:34Speaker 9: player having history sometimes I think there can be a
- 12:40Speaker 9: kind of a trap to slip into that you take
- 12:43Speaker 9: things for granted and just assume that things that have
- 12:45Speaker 9: been successful or how you've been successful in the past
- 12:49Speaker 9: is makes it a guarantee for the future, which obviously
- 12:53Speaker 9: is false. That has nothing to do with our success
- 12:56Speaker 9: and where our future is headed. It's going to be
- 12:59Speaker 9: this group, this staff, this group of players, and those
- 13:02Speaker 9: little decisions that we make every day that are going
- 13:05Speaker 9: to lead to success.
- 13:06Speaker 8: But you definitely have a head start.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Did you buy a house immediately or did you rent
- 13:11Speaker 2: and just wait for a house since you already know
- 13:13Speaker 2: the lay of the land.
- 13:15Speaker 9: We had actually kept our place up here, so that
- 13:17Speaker 9: made the transition relatively smooth. We lived out in the
- 13:21Speaker 9: country and had some achorage, but ended up picking up
- 13:25Speaker 9: a place kind of close to campus for recruiting and
- 13:28Speaker 9: events and things. So it's but you're right, it's been
- 13:31Speaker 9: a pretty smooth transition.
- 13:32Speaker 2: What about Avery Johnson?
- 13:34Speaker 8: What about him?
- 13:35Speaker 2: I don't know. You tell me that's as open then
- 13:37Speaker 2: as I can ask. Well, tell me tell me about
- 13:40Speaker 2: Avery Johnson.
- 13:41Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 13:41Speaker 9: I think, first of all, it's just an absolute privileged
- 13:48Speaker 9: I mean, I was part of the recruiting process coaching for.
- 13:51Speaker 8: A year here.
- 13:52Speaker 9: Being able to be reunited with someone that was very
- 13:55Speaker 9: dear to me and very very close to is special
- 13:59Speaker 9: and doesn't always happened, So extremely grateful for that. I
- 14:04Speaker 9: think Avery does not get enough credit for how competitive
- 14:08Speaker 9: he is, how hard he prepares mentally in the film room,
- 14:13Speaker 9: and how he is a grinder from a football standpoint.
- 14:16Speaker 9: Everyone sees that he runs twenty three miles an hour.
- 14:19Speaker 9: He has a lead arm talent and has a beautiful
- 14:23Speaker 9: head of hair, right Like, everyone sees those things and
- 14:25Speaker 9: it kind of they get that in their mind, and
- 14:29Speaker 9: he does not get I don't think those are his
- 14:31Speaker 9: best qualities, you know, I really don't. And I knew
- 14:34Speaker 9: that recruiting him. The perception of a quarterback is tied
- 14:40Speaker 9: directly to the bottom line of wins and losses. And
- 14:43Speaker 9: they have lost a I think it's over five games
- 14:47Speaker 9: by one score and a late score in the game
- 14:52Speaker 9: those last couple of years, and I think if those
- 14:55Speaker 9: go a little bit differently, you know, I think that
- 14:58Speaker 9: probably changed his perception nationally, which not that that truly
- 15:05Speaker 9: deep down matters, but I think that definitely is a factor.
- 15:09Speaker 9: I'm excited to let him play, free, cut him loose.
- 15:12Speaker 9: He and I've always thought very very similarly and are
- 15:15Speaker 9: on the same page and excited to see what we
- 15:19Speaker 9: can do this year.
- 15:20Speaker 2: How involved will you be calling plays?
- 15:23Speaker 8: We're going to be calling it. Yeah, it's I love
- 15:26Speaker 8: doing it.
- 15:27Speaker 9: It was really really hard to even kind of get
- 15:29Speaker 9: my arms around kind of letting that go. I think
- 15:32Speaker 9: we've developed a very very elite package and a diverse
- 15:37Speaker 9: package that allows us to be flexible and do a
- 15:39Speaker 9: lot of things that are unique around the country, and
- 15:44Speaker 9: I want to see how it goes.
- 15:45Speaker 2: How hard is it to quickly put together a staff,
- 15:48Speaker 2: and what about how many coaches did you retain?
- 15:52Speaker 9: So we retained one on each side of the ball
- 15:54Speaker 9: that I'd worked with before that I thought we're going
- 15:56Speaker 9: to be a good fit with kind of how that
- 15:59Speaker 9: was going to come to get other It's a lot
- 16:01Speaker 9: harder than people think, just because the time constraints.
- 16:06Speaker 8: Everybody's in bowl games or.
- 16:09Speaker 9: A lot of stuff going on in everybody's world that
- 16:11Speaker 9: you're trying to be respectful of but also be aggressive
- 16:14Speaker 9: and get the guys that you want, and then trying
- 16:17Speaker 9: to find the right fits. And it was something that
- 16:20Speaker 9: as a younger coach, you know, whether I had an opportunity,
- 16:24Speaker 9: didn't get an opportunity, you know, you kept hearing the word, well,
- 16:27Speaker 9: it's got to be the right fit. And I don't
- 16:30Speaker 9: think you really understand how important that is until you
- 16:33Speaker 9: get older and you're on stabs that have those right
- 16:37Speaker 9: fits and the right people in the right place. And
- 16:41Speaker 9: but I've been really proud and excited of how this
- 16:44Speaker 9: has come together with the group.
- 16:45Speaker 2: That we have as a head coach. Do you have
- 16:47Speaker 2: an acronym or some like through line that the guys
- 16:51Speaker 2: need to memorize.
- 16:52Speaker 9: No, I mean we you know, our mantra here is family.
- 16:56Speaker 9: It's been that way for a very very long time.
- 16:59Speaker 8: You know. We talk about how living that out differently.
- 17:04Speaker 9: Everyone's going to say it, but how we live that
- 17:06Speaker 9: out here, of how we serve one another, how we
- 17:08Speaker 9: take care of one another, how we hold each other accountable,
- 17:11Speaker 9: is very very real. You know, we have our seven
- 17:15Speaker 9: principles and our core values and but really it's family,
- 17:20Speaker 9: is the mantra here.
- 17:21Speaker 2: How important is it to beat Kansas?
- 17:23Speaker 9: It's pretty important, you know. But at the same time,
- 17:29Speaker 9: you know, it's every game is hard. Winning is hard,
- 17:34Speaker 9: and I think you have to focus on those little
- 17:36Speaker 9: things and doing the right things the right way in
- 17:39Speaker 9: every game you play. It's it's not how much you
- 17:41Speaker 9: care about beating the other team, it's about what you
- 17:44Speaker 9: do about it in.
- 17:44Speaker 8: Those little things.
- 17:45Speaker 2: I think I saw and my number it could be
- 17:47Speaker 2: off a little bit. They had fifty three new players,
- 17:50Speaker 2: you know, with your roster there. I mean, is there
- 17:53Speaker 2: like an orientation whenever that everybody day one comes into Absolutely.
- 17:59Speaker 9: I think the current landscape has required a couple of
- 18:03Speaker 9: things that are different from even five years ago that
- 18:05Speaker 9: we have to do as coaches. And I think creating
- 18:08Speaker 9: culture and developing culture faster is as important as ever.
- 18:14Speaker 8: I think that part.
- 18:15Speaker 9: And then developing the football player fundamentally, strategically mentally so
- 18:21Speaker 9: that they understand what the heck it is they're doing
- 18:23Speaker 9: out on the field and not just relying on their
- 18:25Speaker 9: talent faster. Both of those things are at a premium.
- 18:29Speaker 9: I think it's interesting that there was I want to
- 18:32Speaker 9: say it was five times over coach Snyder's tenure here.
- 18:36Speaker 9: He had over sixty players on the sixty new players
- 18:39Speaker 9: a year on the roster in a turnover cycle, and
- 18:43Speaker 9: I think how he was able to build culture here
- 18:47Speaker 9: faster and integrate players into our family model.
- 18:53Speaker 8: He definitely didn't get enough credit for that.
- 18:55Speaker 9: That was in a non portal era where there was
- 18:58Speaker 9: still a lot of juco transfer in that day and age.
- 19:02Speaker 8: But it can be done.
- 19:03Speaker 9: It's been done here for a long time, and when
- 19:07Speaker 9: you get the right pieces in place to bring that
- 19:09Speaker 9: culture together, special things happen.
- 19:12Speaker 2: I think there are a few things that come together
- 19:15Speaker 2: for teams who win. I just even look at Indiana
- 19:17Speaker 2: right that they could develop players. They got great players
- 19:20Speaker 2: from the portal. Also, you know, there are so many
- 19:22Speaker 2: teams in a conference now that sometimes you just get
- 19:25Speaker 2: a favorable schedule and sometimes though, you don't know what's
- 19:28Speaker 2: favorable and what's not until the year begins. So I'll
- 19:30Speaker 2: also say that, But I was looking at you guys schedule.
- 19:32Speaker 2: You don't have TECH or BYU on the schedule this year.
- 19:37Speaker 2: I don't know that seems like it could be favorable.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Am I crazy for thinking that?
- 19:41Speaker 10: No?
- 19:41Speaker 8: I mean, I think you're definitely not wrong.
- 19:45Speaker 9: But I think when you're talking in the numbers of
- 19:48Speaker 9: forty five to sixty five new players on a roster,
- 19:51Speaker 9: nobody really knows who anyone is. And you know, to
- 19:56Speaker 9: your point, we're going to find out, you know. I mean,
- 19:59Speaker 9: I I think there's a couple of teams with Houston
- 20:02Speaker 9: Arizona State, you know, and that can be very very formidable,
- 20:07Speaker 9: you know, teams and in a really really good place.
- 20:10Speaker 9: So at the end of the day, we got to
- 20:12Speaker 9: worry about our shop and how we're handling our business
- 20:15Speaker 9: and put that ball down.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Whoever's across from us, are you already looking at Nichols
- 20:20Speaker 2: or do you have guys also looking at Washington State? Like,
- 20:22Speaker 2: how does that work with a coupled a few games
- 20:24Speaker 2: to start the season.
- 20:25Speaker 9: Yeah, well, we have a little bit of the summer
- 20:28Speaker 9: schedule that that we kind of worked through and out
- 20:30Speaker 9: of season process of breaking teams down, doing some initial
- 20:34Speaker 9: scout work on them, so we're not just starting straight
- 20:36Speaker 9: from scratch. We've already looked at them. But but again,
- 20:40Speaker 9: most of the teams on our on our schedule, we
- 20:42Speaker 9: have a preliminary overview and scout.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Report for what's been the thing you didn't expect that's
- 20:49Speaker 2: now happening to you about being the head coach, I.
- 20:52Speaker 9: Think just and I knew it, but until you live
- 20:55Speaker 9: it and feel it, it probably is just different. I
- 20:57Speaker 9: think all the different directions you get pulled in and
- 21:00Speaker 9: having to go answer this question or solve this problem
- 21:03Speaker 9: and then jump right back into an old staff meeting
- 21:05Speaker 9: and get your brain back on track of you know
- 21:07Speaker 9: what we were talking about in third down or protection,
- 21:10Speaker 9: let's pick up stuff, and then just kind of having
- 21:12Speaker 9: to constantly shift gears mentally in and out of different tasks.
- 21:16Speaker 2: The first day or two when you get hired, is
- 21:19Speaker 2: your phone just going crazy, and it's hard to keep
- 21:21Speaker 2: up with anything and everything because again you're being dragged everywhere.
- 21:24Speaker 2: There's cameras everywhere, and also people that knew you at
- 21:27Speaker 2: the other place and also people that know you at
- 21:29Speaker 2: this place. I got to imagine that's overwhelming.
- 21:31Speaker 8: Oh, I mean, I think I had over three thousand
- 21:33Speaker 8: text messages on my phone in a matter of forty.
- 21:35Speaker 9: Eight hours, you know, And it's just like it's again
- 21:38Speaker 9: the you always so many things, You've worked so hard
- 21:43Speaker 9: for an opportunity like that to come to fruition so
- 21:46Speaker 9: many people in your life if Fort Indian helped you
- 21:51Speaker 9: get there, you know, but then the scale and all
- 21:55Speaker 9: the moving pieces when it actually happens.
- 22:00Speaker 8: Honor blessing. But it's hard to get your mind around
- 22:02Speaker 8: for sure.
- 22:03Speaker 2: All right, two final questions. Is this your dream job?
- 22:06Speaker 9: Absolutely? I mean, I mean this program is special to me.
- 22:11Speaker 9: I think there was such alignment that was a huge
- 22:13Speaker 9: part of what allowed me to be successful here as
- 22:16Speaker 9: a player from a value system, culture, community people, family
- 22:24Speaker 9: ties with my wife, her dad and going back a
- 22:27Speaker 9: very very long time. It's definitely a good fit and
- 22:32Speaker 9: the mindset of that we're here to make a difference.
- 22:35Speaker 9: In an impact and the people were around that my
- 22:38Speaker 9: two predecessors have did for a very very long time.
- 22:42Speaker 8: This place is special.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Final question it may feel kind of dumb, but some
- 22:46Speaker 2: of the other ones have been dumb to is that
- 22:48Speaker 2: you know, schools get paid based on how many people
- 22:53Speaker 2: play with them during NCAA College football the game on PlayStation.
- 22:56Speaker 2: I have a friend that's an athletic director, and he's like, man,
- 22:58Speaker 2: we're trying to get people to play with him because
- 22:59Speaker 2: the more play with our team, the more money the
- 23:01Speaker 2: school makes that we can use. Are you familiar with
- 23:04Speaker 2: that at all? Or does it not even affect Kansas
- 23:05Speaker 2: State because you guys are so big?
- 23:07Speaker 8: Uh? You know, I had not I had not heard
- 23:10Speaker 8: that specifically. Break there you go.
- 23:17Speaker 9: No, I think I did not know that. But let's
- 23:22Speaker 9: we need to get it out there. Everyone needs to
- 23:23Speaker 9: play with Kansas State.
- 23:24Speaker 8: Let's go.
- 23:26Speaker 2: Hey, coach, congratulations, I'm rooting for you guys, maybe all
- 23:30Speaker 2: except for the Kansas game. I'm coaching. I'm coach with
- 23:32Speaker 2: Lance maybe me and you'll get there at some point,
- 23:34Speaker 2: but maybe other than the Kansas game. I hope you
- 23:37Speaker 2: guys have an awesome season. I loved it up there.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Again I could not believe how elite the facilities were
- 23:43Speaker 2: and how kind everyone was. And again we spent the
- 23:45Speaker 2: whole day. Even the sandwiches. Mine didn't even have mayonnaise
- 23:48Speaker 2: on it. They made sure mine didn't have mayonnaise, and
- 23:50Speaker 2: I hate mayonnaise, and I'll never forget that.
- 23:52Speaker 8: Coach, come on out and see us, my man.
- 23:54Speaker 9: We'll get you a good steak, maybe even some barbecue,
- 23:56Speaker 9: and it'll be great.
- 23:58Speaker 2: Thanks coach, I hope you have a great season.
- 23:59Speaker 8: Good all, I appreciate you.
- 24:03Speaker 2: Now let's bring in doctor Andrew Goodrich, the director of
- 24:06Speaker 2: athletics at the University of Akron, my new favorite school,
- 24:09Speaker 2: my new favorite I just said, I'm such a fan. Jo,
- 24:13Speaker 2: Yes he is. Behind. Well, we've been talking about on
- 24:16Speaker 2: this show where if you buy a season tickets you
- 24:18Speaker 2: have a chance basically to be the offensive coordinator. We
- 24:22Speaker 2: clap our hands with doctor Goodrich. Okay, doctor Goodwich. My
- 24:25Speaker 2: first question is who thought of this idea?
- 24:28Speaker 11: You know, really it was a combination me and Matt
- 24:31Speaker 11: Potter or who's my deputy director of athletics. We were
- 24:35Speaker 11: in Tampa, Florida. We had just played in the NCAA tournament.
- 24:39Speaker 11: Our men's basketball team had a great showing. Our fans
- 24:42Speaker 11: were down there. We had a great time. It was awesome.
- 24:46Speaker 11: When we got on the plane and we were heading back,
- 24:47Speaker 11: we were thinking about how in the world do we
- 24:50Speaker 11: create that type of fan experience that we had at
- 24:52Speaker 11: basketball for football, and we batted around a lot of ideas,
- 24:57Speaker 11: and I think at one point, you know, I said
- 24:59Speaker 11: to Matt, I said, you know, you realize coach is
- 25:01Speaker 11: both the head coach and.
- 25:02Speaker 12: The offensive coordinator. What if we had like an.
- 25:05Speaker 11: Offensive coordinator of the game, you know, we could we
- 25:08Speaker 11: got to give it to one of our fans, you know,
- 25:10Speaker 11: a season ticket holder, and he's like, are you crazy.
- 25:13Speaker 11: We can't do that, you know, And we were like, hmm,
- 25:16Speaker 11: what if we just did one play? And we thought, okay,
- 25:20Speaker 11: one play, I think we could do that. That would
- 25:22Speaker 11: be fun. But then we felt like, it's just not
- 25:24Speaker 11: the impact that we want that fan to experience. Right,
- 25:27Speaker 11: it's fun, but we really started thinking, what if we
- 25:31Speaker 11: just had them script the opening drive.
- 25:33Speaker 12: You get a chance to do what we've all done.
- 25:36Speaker 11: We've all stood in our living rooms, We've all sat there,
- 25:38Speaker 11: pointed at the TV and said, oh, I would run
- 25:40Speaker 11: this play.
- 25:41Speaker 12: I would run that play's what we got to do.
- 25:43Speaker 13: And we thought this might be this might be something
- 25:47Speaker 13: we could do, and we took it to coach and
- 25:52Speaker 13: coach was very reasonably.
- 25:55Speaker 12: Skeptical about this idea. Is that fair?
- 26:01Speaker 11: If any of you have spent time with a Division
- 26:03Speaker 11: one head football coach, it was more colorful language than that.
- 26:06Speaker 12: But you know, we really got talking.
- 26:09Speaker 11: About it and we said, listen, we've got a great
- 26:12Speaker 11: head coach who's an incredible offensive coordinator. This is his
- 26:15Speaker 11: forty second opening day, He's been there, done that, it's
- 26:18Speaker 11: not his first rodeo. He is really an educator at heart,
- 26:22Speaker 11: and I think there's a little part of him that's
- 26:24Speaker 11: really looking forward to mentoring this person.
- 26:26Speaker 12: And going, hey, get in here.
- 26:27Speaker 11: We're gonna we're gonna watch a film, we're gonna look
- 26:29Speaker 11: at the players, we're gonna look at the defense as
- 26:31Speaker 11: we're expecting. Let's get in here, let's think about this.
- 26:34Speaker 11: And you know, and he's really leaned into it. And
- 26:37Speaker 11: I give him so much credit because the truth is this,
- 26:40Speaker 11: if Joe Morehead is.
- 26:41Speaker 12: Like, we're not doing this, then we're not doing it.
- 26:44Speaker 11: But Joe Morehead has got an incredible amount of courage
- 26:47Speaker 11: and I think he gets it.
- 26:49Speaker 12: He just gets it, and you know, here we are.
- 26:52Speaker 2: You know, it's taking the internet by storm, which I'm
- 26:55Speaker 2: a little bit disappointed in because I saw it pretty
- 26:58Speaker 2: early and thought I'm buying tickets immediately, and then everybody
- 27:02Speaker 2: saw how great of an idea was. And now all
- 27:04Speaker 2: my friends, even in media, are like, I'm in. But
- 27:07Speaker 2: I will say this, Doctor Goodrich, I bought good season tickets.
- 27:10Speaker 2: I didn't buy the seventy five dollars ones. I bought
- 27:12Speaker 2: the ones lower that were definitely about double because also
- 27:16Speaker 2: I wanted to donate them to the kids they're there,
- 27:20Speaker 2: and I've already been, you know, talking back to make
- 27:22Speaker 2: sure that when I can't get to the games. But look,
- 27:24Speaker 2: if I'm there for Game one, I planned to be
- 27:26Speaker 2: there a lot. I pland to be the biggest supporter.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Have you guys sold a lot of tickets.
- 27:30Speaker 11: You know, we had our biggest day of sales, one
- 27:33Speaker 11: day of sales since we opened the stadium back in
- 27:36Speaker 11: two thousand and eight. So that's huge for us, right
- 27:38Speaker 11: in terms of scale. Listen, we're not the world's largest
- 27:42Speaker 11: Division one football program.
- 27:43Speaker 12: That was a really big deal for US.
- 27:45Speaker 11: I will say that I was a part of a
- 27:47Speaker 11: team that did something similar at the University of Miami
- 27:50Speaker 11: about twelve thirteen years ago, and when that marketing promotion
- 27:55Speaker 11: went viral, what we found was the ticket sales weren't
- 27:58Speaker 11: in day one, two and three.
- 28:00Speaker 12: It came in weeks two, three.
- 28:02Speaker 11: And four, And we do anticipate that this is going
- 28:05Speaker 11: to have a significant impact on.
- 28:07Speaker 12: Our ticket sales.
- 28:08Speaker 11: What was actually pretty great is we had somebody call
- 28:10Speaker 11: in and say, hey, how many sweets he got left.
- 28:13Speaker 11: We end up selling out our suites, and we've been
- 28:16Speaker 11: contacted by a pretty large company who is.
- 28:18Speaker 12: Interested in being our Jersey patch sponsor.
- 28:21Speaker 11: So you know, I think the greatest impact might not
- 28:24Speaker 11: necessarily be tickets sold, but corporate sponsorships and just overall
- 28:29Speaker 11: support for the football program.
- 28:30Speaker 2: That's so cool. I have family in coaching, in college coaching,
- 28:35Speaker 2: and my brother in law is the head coach at
- 28:37Speaker 2: Tulsa Softball now and his mom is the head coach
- 28:40Speaker 2: at Oklahoma and she's won eight national championships, and softballs
- 28:43Speaker 2: very much in the blood of our family and collegiate
- 28:46Speaker 2: sports very much. And I'm a massive Arkansas guy and
- 28:48Speaker 2: I've donated a ton of money there just through nil
- 28:50Speaker 2: through foundation because I understand the game of it now.
- 28:52Speaker 2: It's all about money. You got to have money to
- 28:54Speaker 2: come good for you. And so I bought at Tulsa
- 28:58Speaker 2: the left field wall and all the left and it
- 29:00Speaker 2: says the Bobby Bones Boneyard and so awesome. I bought that.
- 29:04Speaker 2: It's there, it's on the wall, and then every home
- 29:06Speaker 2: run that's hit, I donate one hundred bucks to the
- 29:08Speaker 2: hospital there in Tulsa. So it's kind of my way
- 29:11Speaker 2: of one helping the program and two being able to
- 29:14Speaker 2: give back. But you are right, it is all about
- 29:17Speaker 2: oddly getting finances because you've got so many things to
- 29:23Speaker 2: pay for now just to be competitive. So that's so
- 29:25Speaker 2: exciting that more people are jumping in to help you
- 29:27Speaker 2: be a competitive program.
- 29:29Speaker 11: Absolutely no, we appreciate the support. Listen, just the brand awareness. Alone,
- 29:33Speaker 11: we are over twenty million views on that post on
- 29:38Speaker 11: X alone. I've never seen anything like it, We've never
- 29:42Speaker 11: done anything like it. It's Taylor Swift esque, you know, like,
- 29:47Speaker 11: and we are getting all sorts of support. I saw
- 29:51Speaker 11: something from an Irish newspaper, so really it's even gone
- 29:53Speaker 11: beyond our borders. It's kind of become a global phenomenon.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Yeah, we can't have a soccer player calling plays, doctor,
- 30:00Speaker 2: we don't. We don't need some iris. Sofctric guy out
- 30:02Speaker 2: there calling up calling places for American football.
- 30:05Speaker 12: Little reversed ted lasto Yeah.
- 30:07Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I don't know. So when do you guys
- 30:10Speaker 2: plan to draw? And is the drawing going to be
- 30:13Speaker 2: truly random?
- 30:14Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 30:14Speaker 11: So I think it's really important because as we read
- 30:17Speaker 11: everything on social the biggest thing that people are concerned
- 30:21Speaker 11: about is, hey, now that we have incredible celebrities like
- 30:24Speaker 11: yourself getting involved, you know, the pr thing for us
- 30:29Speaker 11: to do is just get earned media by getting a
- 30:31Speaker 11: famous person. I want you, I appreciate you. I'm really
- 30:34Speaker 11: glad that you bought these tickets. We're grateful to have
- 30:36Speaker 11: you as a season ticket holder. But we are going
- 30:39Speaker 11: to stick to the intent and this will be a
- 30:42Speaker 11: random selection draw. So one person will have a shot
- 30:47Speaker 11: at doing this, because it is the dream, right, somebody
- 30:50Speaker 11: is going to get this shot to do this. And
- 30:52Speaker 11: now I will say, the more season tickets people buy,
- 30:55Speaker 11: you know, the greater your opportunity to win. But that
- 30:59Speaker 11: being said, I think it's impt for all our fans
- 31:00Speaker 11: to realize, yes, we will stick to.
- 31:02Speaker 12: That and it will be random.
- 31:03Speaker 2: I don't like that personally, I'm just saying I don't
- 31:06Speaker 2: like him. I don't like the fairness of it. Are
- 31:08Speaker 2: you going to put in a bucket? How are you
- 31:09Speaker 2: going to do that?
- 31:11Speaker 11: You know, So, being really candid, we thought this would
- 31:16Speaker 11: have an incredible impact on our community here in Akron,
- 31:19Speaker 11: maybe Northeast Ohio. We never imagine in a million years
- 31:23Speaker 11: that I would be here on your podcast right talking
- 31:27Speaker 11: about this, and so I always say we reserve the
- 31:30Speaker 11: right to become more intelligent over time. We're going to
- 31:33Speaker 11: reevaluate exactly how we intend to share this with everyone,
- 31:38Speaker 11: because frankly, at this point, we have a responsibility to
- 31:41Speaker 11: America to do this right.
- 31:43Speaker 12: So everybody's invested in this.
- 31:46Speaker 11: I want to make sure that you know, people are
- 31:49Speaker 11: looking at the University of Akron and really seeing us
- 31:52Speaker 11: as leaders in the space. And so we're probably candidly,
- 31:56Speaker 11: we're probably going to work with our College of Business.
- 31:58Speaker 11: We've got a great group over there, student sport Analytics group,
- 32:03Speaker 11: and I imagine we're going to partner with the sports
- 32:05Speaker 11: analytics program over in the College of Business so that
- 32:08Speaker 11: they can help us have a truly random draw.
- 32:12Speaker 2: You know, there'll be a lot of copycats.
- 32:13Speaker 8: Now, you know that's all right.
- 32:15Speaker 11: I probably should have trademarked this and got some licensing
- 32:18Speaker 11: revenue out of it. Bobby, if you could help me
- 32:20Speaker 11: with that a little bit, maybe you know, we can
- 32:22Speaker 11: split that rev a little bit.
- 32:24Speaker 12: You know, that's an uncharted territory for us.
- 32:27Speaker 2: What's great about the Akron Zips in general? What do
- 32:31Speaker 2: you love about that job?
- 32:32Speaker 11: I'll tell you I love I love this community, right,
- 32:36Speaker 11: you know, blue collar, hard working, really dedicated, loyal human
- 32:42Speaker 11: beings who just they love being from Ohio.
- 32:46Speaker 12: They love northeast Ohio.
- 32:47Speaker 11: You know, listen, we're very very proud, you know Lebron
- 32:51Speaker 11: james hometown, Akron, Ohio. Lebron's been great for us, very
- 32:56Speaker 11: supportive of us. Actually, Lebron James Family Foundation is located
- 32:59Speaker 11: right here year in Infocision Stadium, our football stadium, and
- 33:03Speaker 11: so I love the underdog mentality that we have here.
- 33:09Speaker 11: One of the things we're really proud of is that
- 33:12Speaker 11: we do have the second smallest budget of all FBS
- 33:15Speaker 11: schools in America. But an economist just did an evaluation
- 33:19Speaker 11: of last year's overall college athletics performance. We were ranked
- 33:24Speaker 11: the number ninth most efficient and effective athletics program in America.
- 33:30Speaker 12: So we're really proud of that.
- 33:31Speaker 11: I mean, we have championship level programs that we have
- 33:34Speaker 11: a men's soccer program that's made it to.
- 33:37Speaker 12: The Elite eight last year.
- 33:38Speaker 11: We had a men's basketball program that made it to
- 33:41Speaker 11: the NCAA tournament three consecutive years in a row. We're
- 33:43Speaker 11: going for four consecutive MAC championships. And you know, I
- 33:48Speaker 11: just think that this football program.
- 33:50Speaker 12: Is on the rise.
- 33:51Speaker 11: We went five and seven last year, and we really
- 33:54Speaker 11: think we have a shot at getting to a bowl
- 33:56Speaker 11: game this year. And just really proud of this university
- 34:01Speaker 11: and the way it's bounced back and fights to continue
- 34:04Speaker 11: to make the climb.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Doctor Goodwich, did you play baseball in college?
- 34:08Speaker 14: Yes?
- 34:08Speaker 8: I did.
- 34:09Speaker 11: I am a very proud graduate of Cumberland University over
- 34:13Speaker 11: there in Lebanon, Tennessee.
- 34:15Speaker 2: And what position did you play and how many years
- 34:18Speaker 2: did you get in there at Cumberland?
- 34:20Speaker 11: So I played three seasons at Cumberland. I frankly was
- 34:23Speaker 11: a utility player, sometimes outfield, sometimes infield, and occasionally got
- 34:27Speaker 11: behind the plate.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Hey what do you think about the new you know,
- 34:32Speaker 2: five years you know, they're dealing with it right now,
- 34:34Speaker 2: so I'm sure you're having to think about this as well.
- 34:38Speaker 2: What's happening right now in college sports with that five.
- 34:40Speaker 2: These players want the extra year, but it's going to
- 34:43Speaker 2: come down to the calendar.
- 34:45Speaker 11: Ultimately, I think that the five for five is going
- 34:49Speaker 11: to be a good thing because it's going to stabilize
- 34:51Speaker 11: what we're doing and try to have standards that are
- 34:54Speaker 11: fair and equal across all sports and all divisions. So
- 34:58Speaker 11: I ultimately think it's a good thing. It is difficult
- 35:01Speaker 11: to make that transition from where we are into this,
- 35:05Speaker 11: and you know, I just think that the price of
- 35:08Speaker 11: progress is a little bit of pain from time to time,
- 35:11Speaker 11: and we will get through this and we'll be all right.
- 35:13Speaker 2: How do you feel like the Action games when they're
- 35:15Speaker 2: on like a random night, because I love those games
- 35:17Speaker 2: because there's no other night like a Tuesday, and I'm
- 35:20Speaker 2: in Maction. It's awesome.
- 35:22Speaker 12: You know.
- 35:23Speaker 11: It's it's polarizing a little bit on one hand, because
- 35:25Speaker 11: I agree with you one hundred percent. I love being
- 35:28Speaker 11: the only show in town on a Tuesday night. Everybody
- 35:31Speaker 11: in America is watching our programs. I think it's been
- 35:34Speaker 11: really interesting because what we've learned is that in this
- 35:37Speaker 11: new era of college sports and sports wagering becoming a
- 35:40Speaker 11: big deal in the United States, I mean, the views
- 35:44Speaker 11: of those Tuesday night games, when we're the only teams
- 35:47Speaker 11: that you know, betters are betting on, is really really
- 35:51Speaker 11: valuable for our programs. On the other hand, I feel
- 35:54Speaker 11: for our fans who love that traditional college football experience
- 35:59Speaker 11: that want to be year for a weekend. They want
- 36:01Speaker 11: a tailgate, they want to do all that, and that's
- 36:04Speaker 11: not afforded to you on Tuesdays and Wednesday nights. And
- 36:07Speaker 11: so we balance it, you know, and we try to
- 36:09Speaker 11: do our best to give our student athletes the greatest
- 36:12Speaker 11: experience they can have those days. And you know what, frankly,
- 36:15Speaker 11: it's a cumbent upon us to learn how to be
- 36:17Speaker 11: great marketers and figure out a way to get those
- 36:19Speaker 11: buildings filled on Tuesday nights.
- 36:22Speaker 2: What's up with Zippy the Kangaroo?
- 36:25Speaker 11: The best mascot in America? Only female mascot in America.
- 36:28Speaker 11: Zippy is female. She's got a pouch, right, and so
- 36:32Speaker 11: it has been named the best mascot in America and
- 36:35Speaker 11: a number of different polls throughout the year, and beloved, beloved,
- 36:39Speaker 11: mascot here.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Well, is that real? You have a real kangaroo, So we.
- 36:43Speaker 11: Do not have a real kangaroos at least at least
- 36:46Speaker 11: not yet.
- 36:48Speaker 12: Not yet. We're working on that. That might be the
- 36:50Speaker 12: next one.
- 36:51Speaker 2: That's the thing, that's a new one that next year
- 36:54Speaker 2: you get to play with the kangaroo if you're sees
- 36:55Speaker 2: a ticket holder when they get a real one. That yeah,
- 36:58Speaker 2: I bother you.
- 36:59Speaker 11: Get the almost like Ralphie out there at the University
- 37:02Speaker 11: of Colorado. You get to walk with the kangaroo and
- 37:05Speaker 11: just walk him out onto the man.
- 37:07Speaker 2: That will be fun. Wellk I'm so excited because this
- 37:10Speaker 2: is I love when a new element is brought and
- 37:13Speaker 2: it's fun, and especially for a school like you. Guys,
- 37:17Speaker 2: you're everybody's fight for attention. Like I said, we're always
- 37:19Speaker 2: in an attention economy and you're trying to raise money
- 37:21Speaker 2: and you're trying to fight for attention to raise money.
- 37:23Speaker 2: And I think it's really cool how everyone has kind
- 37:25Speaker 2: of gravitated to this. So congratulations to you and your
- 37:28Speaker 2: team for having such a great idea. I know it's
- 37:30Speaker 2: going to be completely random, but for some reason, my
- 37:33Speaker 2: name is drawing a planning to be there a couple
- 37:34Speaker 2: days early in the film room breaking it down. Listen,
- 37:37Speaker 2: I've been studying RPOs for on college football, mad I'm
- 37:41Speaker 2: really good running the RPO spread offense. If you can
- 37:43Speaker 2: let them. The rest is shirt. When I show up,
- 37:45Speaker 2: I'll be ready to go. But uh, doctor Goodrich, thank
- 37:48Speaker 2: you so much, and I hope you have a wonderful week.
- 37:50Speaker 2: And I can't wait for the drawing to happen and
- 37:52Speaker 2: see who gets to do it.
- 37:53Speaker 12: Thank you very much. We appreciate you, guys.
- 37:55Speaker 2: Go zips goes. I agree, go freaking zips. All right,
- 37:58Speaker 2: thank you, doctor Rich.
- 38:02Speaker 3: All right, you guys want to play a game? Yeah? Oh,
- 38:04Speaker 3: what do you got? I have who said It? Sports Edition?
- 38:06Speaker 3: I'll play you an iconic sports line. You tell me
- 38:09Speaker 3: who it is.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Write your answer down.
- 38:10Speaker 3: M sounds tough. Oh, like a few of them come
- 38:14Speaker 3: to mind, you know, like I can think of the
- 38:16Speaker 3: big ones. You what an example? Yeah? Please, here's your example.
- 38:21Speaker 3: That's an example for an example?
- 38:23Speaker 8: Who is that?
- 38:23Speaker 3: Jimmy Johnson?
- 38:24Speaker 9: Here you go?
- 38:24Speaker 13: Easy?
- 38:25Speaker 10: Is that?
- 38:26Speaker 5: I feel like that's gonna be the easiest one.
- 38:27Speaker 3: Then no, then we left that one on the board.
- 38:30Speaker 5: No movies, right, this is all real it's all real.
- 38:32Speaker 3: Okay, all right, best of seven.
- 38:34Speaker 2: Here's your first clip.
- 38:35Speaker 12: I'm here so I won't get fine.

- 38:42Speaker 3: Let me know when you're in anyway you got I
- 38:46Speaker 3: have beast mode, Cavin.

- 38:53Speaker 8: I like it, all right.
- 38:54Speaker 2: Number two, playoffs.
- 38:56Speaker 5: Don't talk about playoffs.
- 38:58Speaker 10: You kidding me?

- 39:25Speaker 3: All right, I'm in. All right, Anie, what you got
- 39:27Speaker 3: I'm gonna get this wrong, but I'm gonna go with
- 39:29Speaker 3: coach Mora.
- 39:31Speaker 2: That is correct?
- 39:33Speaker 5: Yeah that's Jim, is it?
- 39:38Speaker 3: Jim Yea was the Saints Colts? Colts?

- 39:52Speaker 1: if you want to crown them, then crown their ass.
- 39:54Speaker 1: But they are who we thought they were, and we
- 39:57Speaker 1: let them out.
- 39:57Speaker 8: The hook said it.

- 40:14Speaker 1: crown them, they crown their ass. But they are who

- 43:13Speaker 3: It's a recent quarterback, all right.
