- 1:01Speaker 3: Network United.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Union that right there happened on this date in nineteen
- 1:16Speaker 1: fifty eight.
- 1:18Speaker 2: You know, if you're a sports historian. You know this
- 1:20Speaker 2: date very well.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I know Loui Tornado does, and that was Bob Wolf
- 1:24Speaker 1: with the call on December twenty eighth, nineteen fifty eight.
- 1:30Speaker 1: There's a NFL slave today in twenty twenty four, and
- 1:36Speaker 1: it doesn't include the Giants and Colts. That's tomorrow, on
- 1:43Speaker 1: December twenty ninth, twenty twenty four, the day after the
- 1:47Speaker 1: anniversary of the greatest game ever played. I get it.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Both teams are absolute dumpster fires. The Giants have planes
- 1:57Speaker 1: flying over MetLife Stadium. I get it. It's horrible what's
- 2:02Speaker 1: been going on. They're on a ten game losing streak.
- 2:05Speaker 1: But can we put aside the record and just honor history.
- 2:12Speaker 1: There is a three game slight today.
- 2:16Speaker 2: For the NFL, and you're all, well look up on sports.
- 2:22Speaker 1: I am calling out Commissioner Goodell for not making one
- 2:29Speaker 1: of those games the Colts versus the Giants, because that
- 2:37Speaker 1: is history.
- 2:38Speaker 4: But I think if you preserve the history of the
- 2:41Speaker 4: game and what that game meant in nineteen fifty eight,
- 2:48Speaker 4: I think.
- 2:51Speaker 2: That would give the.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Young NFL fans an appreciation of the game then and
- 2:59Speaker 1: maybe even appreciate it even more now.
- 3:01Speaker 2: And interesting enough, I played that Bob Wolf Audio.
- 3:06Speaker 3: United. Yes, Jim.
- 3:16Speaker 1: And I actually got the chance to talk with mister
- 3:20Speaker 1: Wolf personally. He was a mentor of mine about that
- 3:23Speaker 1: call on then the Sports Hour with Alex Kart.
- 3:28Speaker 5: There you go. Well, Bob Wolf has been behind the
- 3:30Speaker 5: mine for some great events, Bob lars, Don Martin's Perfect
- 3:34Speaker 5: Game and a Meadtree Scorers. The lead Tree Scorer is
- 3:37Speaker 5: the greatest game ever played. That was the Giants against
- 3:41Speaker 5: the Baltimore Colt nineteen fifty eight, and all of those
- 3:45Speaker 5: moments where you've seen what stands out to you the most.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Well, Basically, a lot of people do great shows, great teams,
- 3:55Speaker 3: but it's more important from a career standpoint, the app
- 4:00Speaker 3: to do those great shows the great teams before the
- 4:03Speaker 3: largest audience possible. So I was very fortunate that when
- 4:08Speaker 3: I did that Cold Giant game, it was a game
- 4:11Speaker 3: that was instrumental in making football of the pros a
- 4:16Speaker 3: major sport. After that, everybody wanted to be part of it,
- 4:20Speaker 3: and that was the big football game that got them
- 4:23Speaker 3: over the top. It was the first overtime game in
- 4:27Speaker 3: National Football Championship history. It involved two great teams, the
- 4:32Speaker 3: Giants and the Colts at Yankee Stadium, New York City.
- 4:36Speaker 3: It had all the elements of splendor and drama, and
- 4:40Speaker 3: it made the Pro football what it is today. And
- 4:44Speaker 3: with the baseball by Colin Medawn Larceneau hitter, of course,
- 4:49Speaker 3: that's the greatest feat in World Series history. So that
- 4:53Speaker 3: helped because I had nationwide audiences. But I've had a
- 4:57Speaker 3: lot of other sports. I did the championships on TV
- 5:01Speaker 3: of the New York Knickabonkers and for basketball. They were
- 5:06Speaker 3: big sports. But I was at the right place at
- 5:09Speaker 3: the right time, and that's part of the look of
- 5:13Speaker 3: the business.
- 5:15Speaker 1: And yes, it's about timing. It's about being in the
- 5:18Speaker 1: right place. And that is why four years from now,
- 5:23Speaker 1: the NFL should do something really much more epic than
- 5:27Speaker 1: playing the Colts and Giants on the seventieth anniversary of
- 5:30Speaker 1: the greatest game ever played. They should play it across
- 5:35Speaker 1: the streets at the new Yankee Stadium. How is that
- 5:39Speaker 1: for a recreation of history? Because today, while there are
- 5:45Speaker 1: three NFL games that do not include the Giants and Colts,
- 5:49Speaker 1: there was a football game at Yankee Stadium, the Pinstripe Bowl,
- 5:56Speaker 1: featuring Nebraska and Boston College.
- 6:01Speaker 2: I think that's pretty cool.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Maybe the kids aren't aware of that history, but they
- 6:05Speaker 1: were on the field across the street from where the
- 6:09Speaker 1: first nineteen fifty eight December twenty eighth game was played
- 6:15Speaker 1: on that anniversary, and that's pretty damn special. So we
- 6:19Speaker 1: know there could be football played at Yankee State. We
- 6:23Speaker 1: know there was a game played today at Yankee Stadium
- 6:28Speaker 1: on the anniversary of this historic day. But what we
- 6:32Speaker 1: don't know yet is if the NFL will actually have
- 6:34Speaker 1: the brains to put two and two together and say, hey,
- 6:39Speaker 1: it's Thursday Night football. It'll be the Giants and the
- 6:43Speaker 1: Colts at Yankee Stadium, drum up the seventieth anniversary special idea,
- 6:53Speaker 1: and let's watch some football at Yankee Stadium. Let's watch
- 6:55Speaker 1: some NFL football. We've seen college year after year. We've
- 6:59Speaker 1: seen Notre Dame a few times. We've seen Syracuse. We
- 7:02Speaker 1: actually saw Syracuse. I personally did see them when the
- 7:05Speaker 1: first pin Stript bawl back in what twenty.
- 7:07Speaker 2: Ten I believe it was, or yeah, twenty ten. So
- 7:10Speaker 2: we've seen football in the new Yankee Stadium.
- 7:14Speaker 1: But let's take that to another level of NFL football.
- 7:19Speaker 1: And if it's not anytime before now, let's make the
- 7:23Speaker 1: seventy anniversary.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Of the Giants versus the Baltimore.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Colts truly historic by playing it in the new Yankee Stadium,
- 7:35Speaker 1: across the street from the hollow ground of the original
- 7:39Speaker 1: Yankee seity. But what do I know, I'm just a
- 7:43Speaker 1: podcast try. I have one leg up before you and
- 7:47Speaker 1: not in the league office. But I think it's only
- 7:52Speaker 1: right that this idea come to fruition four years from now,
- 7:58Speaker 1: on December twenty eight, twenty eight. But speaking of archive,
- 8:03Speaker 1: and I'm so thankful my mom and my friend Ashi,
- 8:06Speaker 1: You've always encouraged me to.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Preserve my archives because these are so cool. Bob Wolf
- 8:15Speaker 2: gave his tapes.
- 8:18Speaker 1: To the Library of Congress back in twenty thirteen. In
- 8:25Speaker 1: a press release back on April twenty fifth, twenty thirteen,
- 8:29Speaker 1: it wrote the Library acquired sportscaster Bobb Wolves rare audio
- 8:35Speaker 1: visual recordings that spanned over seventy four years and featured
- 8:42Speaker 1: more than a thousand hours of him interviewing the greatest
- 8:45Speaker 1: stars in sports history, as well as his famous calls
- 8:49Speaker 1: known such as Don Larson's.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Perfect game in nineteen fifty six.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Also Yankee Stadium play by playing the Baltimore Colts overtime,
- 8:57Speaker 1: went over the Giants in the NFL Championship Game to
- 9:00Speaker 1: fifty eight, called the greatest football game ever played, televised
- 9:04Speaker 1: play by play at the New York.
- 9:05Speaker 2: Knicks two Championships, an.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Interview with Jackie Robinson in his early career, plus Robinson's
- 9:12Speaker 1: last major league hit, which was a game winner in
- 9:14Speaker 1: Game six of the nineteen fifty six World Series. Wolfe's
- 9:18Speaker 1: performances with the Washington Singing Senators, and in fact his
- 9:24Speaker 1: name is be selling the broadcast booth at Nationals Park
- 9:29Speaker 1: because he was such a legend calling Washington Senators baseball,
- 9:33Speaker 1: and then Cannon interviews with numerous sports legends including Get
- 9:37Speaker 1: This Bay, Ruth, Jim Thorpe, Ty Cobb, Vince Lombardi, Trince
- 9:43Speaker 1: trist Speaker, Mickey Mannele, Joe Lewis, Yogi Bearra, George Steinbrener,
- 9:50Speaker 1: Clark Griffith, Rocky Marciano, and hundreds of others.
- 9:55Speaker 2: In addition to major sports fakers, wolf also talked to.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Bing Crosby, Danny kme Elton Borough, Bob Hope, Jerry.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Lewis, Hendrichard Nixon.
- 10:07Speaker 1: So there are a lot of treasure trove, and he
- 10:11Speaker 1: did this while he was still around, as he averaged
- 10:17Speaker 1: according to the Library of Congress, over two hundred and
- 10:19Speaker 1: fifty play by plays, pre and post shows and nightly sportscasts.
- 10:24Speaker 1: And I'll drop the podcast where we talked about all that,
- 10:27Speaker 1: because as I mentioned, he's.
- 10:28Speaker 2: A mentor even in spirit. He's been with us.
- 10:33Speaker 1: You know, for a very long time, from the days
- 10:35Speaker 1: of the Viscardi Center till now. I feel like he's
- 10:39Speaker 1: with me every day in that radio journey because with
- 10:43Speaker 1: his help, I was able to grow that confidence to
- 10:48Speaker 1: get into radio. And I thank him for that. I
- 10:51Speaker 1: thank him for his time that he took to do
- 10:56Speaker 1: that interview, and.
- 10:58Speaker 6: We'll post the whole thing in the link below, honoring
- 11:04Speaker 6: a historic game, a historic day, and a historic weekend,
- 11:11Speaker 6: because yes, the Giants and Colts.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Are meeting tomorrow, so I know this will be talked
- 11:17Speaker 1: about a lot throughout the course of those four quarters,
- 11:23Speaker 1: But for now, I'm Alex Garrett and at the end
- 11:27Speaker 1: of our truly wants one leg up on history. They
- 11:30Speaker 1: play the Giants and Colts at Yankee Stadium on Thursday,
- 11:36Speaker 1: December twenty eighth, twenty twenty eight, marking seventy years of
- 11:42Speaker 1: the greatest game ever played,
