Speaker A: Alright, so right now we are going to go to the Metroland concert calendar and see what is happening. And if you go to themetroland.com right on the front page and you see the button that says what's happening, you click on that and you go to the calendar and it's day by day or week by week, and it's getting more robust, so to speak. And it will grow more. And the best thing about starting small is that there's lots of room to grow. So the calendar is just going to get bigger. Not like it's not big enough already. There's plenty of events on there, but you know, that's where I'm getting all of these events from. So. But not only the concert calendar, but you'll notice on the front page there, it says hot singles. You know, you clicked click on that expecting something different. But it's TJ foster every month is going to curate the local releases of the month. It's a retrospective. So, you know, the month of September will be released the 1 October and it'll be a look back on all the local releases that were released in September and so on and so forth. And he's putting out an article and he's got them all curated right there. And I'm actually making a corresponding Spotify playlist. That's the official Metroland Hot singles Spotify Spotify playlist for every month. So go check that out. But looking at the calendar tonight at no fun, we have Birdhouse records presents shred Flintstone zoo, Kraut, cheesy snacks and canela. It is at no fun at 275 River street in Troy, New York. Again, that is shred Flintstone zoo, kraut cheesy snacks, and canela and I met Juliana of Canela when we were on the same team for the family feud thing that happened a couple months ago, which was very interesting. But I also really dig Canelo's music. They're a really great band and I really love them, and you should too. So right now, what I'm going to do is play a canela song. This is never again. And it's right here on unsigned 500 and eighteen's weekend spotlight.

Speaker C: Never again will I try to see you again. You made me show up late, you made me look like shame. Never again will I try this hard on press you're coming, all your friends I guess I don't really care. I hate you, I'm surely gonna kill you, you know that I hear your voice and shiver. But I see the last spirit make you alone and I'm gonna kill you. It's what you said to me that day in front of all of this when I might have played. I'll smile and walk towards the exit. Don't bother looking at me. I hate you, I'm surely gonna kill you. You said I hear your voice, I'm savor but I see girl I know I made it.
• 7:12
Speaker A: That was never again from Canela. And again, they will be at no fun tonight. So I'm gonna kind of point back to themetroland.com. you know, not only is it a place where you can find what's happening with the concert calendar, but, you know, TJ Foster has his hot singles, and there are great interviews and reviews and previews, and we have a great staff of journalists and photographers. But I think I've found what I really enjoy doing. I've never really done album reviews before, but in the last couple weeks, I've done three of them and I enjoy it. I like the way I'm getting better at it. Even just over the course of three of them. I keep them very short and concise. I don't drag on. And I do the review. I, like, literally write the review. As I'm listening to the album, I find time to listen to the album and I listen to it and then kind of take notes throughout the listening of it and note what song like, that moment is, is in, you know? And then at the end of listening to the album, I just basically do a quick edit of the review and call it a day. So I dig the format, and I'm hoping that, that you do as well, because the way I figure is, it's a short attention span world. Then, you know, you can just go and it's a, you know, three, four minute read and just read through and kind of get a feel of the album and get an idea of the album before you listen. And I hope you'll check it out. And all those can be found over@themetroland.com under the interviews, reviews and previews. So one of the albums that I recently reviewed is a band called NTT Fucks. And I had never really heard of what because they were described as, you know, shoe gaze. And I, like, honestly didn't really know what shoe gaze was. And I kind of figured, in my mind, I guess I figured it was like very heavy, I guess like a, you know, a heavier rock or whatever. But, you know, I just didn't, I didn't know. So this was the first review that I've done where I went into completely blind, like, not knowing, not only not knowing the band, but not even really knowing what the genre of music was. And after listening to it, you know, I gotta say I really like it. It was a little, not puzzling, but like, at first I was kind of like, hmm, you know, this is not what I was expecting, but. And then it became clearer, I guess, as the album went on. And then I wrote most of the review while I was like relistening and like doing the editing and it made more sense the second time I listened to it where I was like, oh, wow, this is, you know, really great. So check out the album. It's called Horizon Dancing below. And it's, you know, on all the streaming, I found the best way to find it is n t period. T period. And then it's Fxx ks. So it's like kind of like self centered, but you'll find it again. The album is Horizon dancing below. And what we're gonna do right now is this is actually the closing track of Horizon dancing below. So like, by this point, the time I got to the, the song I really like, you know, felt like I knew what was going on. And I don't know if that's the reason why or it's just a fucking great song, but this is probably my favorite one on, on the record. So it's called tired of being tired. It's the final track on NTT Fuck's album Horizon dancing below. You can check out the album review written by me over on thematuraland.com. but right now it's NTT fucks and it's right here on unsigned 500 and eighteen's weekend spotlight. Alright, that was NTT fucks with tired of being tired. And right now we're gonna go to the Metroland concert calendar and take a look at Friday. We have glass pony at Ophelia's. And I, you know, recently played Ophelias and I'm gonna have to just, I want to give a shout out to the staff there and the sound guys. Everything like, sounded really good. The staff was very gracious, the crowd was great. It was a really good place to play, and it was a really good place to see live music, you know, because obviously when you, when you play in a band, you usually get to check out a couple other bands. So go out and support live music. We, we really need it now kind of more than ever. You know, things have. A couple things have happened that are a hit to the local music scene. So get out there and support live music. Glass Pony, tonight or, no, not tonight. Tomorrow night, Friday night at Ophelia's. So go check out Glass Pony. And right now we're going to listen to a glass pony song. This one's called Spotlights, and it's right here on unsigned 518 weekend spotlight.

They never left now there's nothing you can do my one day love knowing all my life but then you gotta sleep when you go.
• 25:24
Speaker A: Damn. Okay. Wow. That was polluted. A recommendation from bad music club. That was fucking awesome. I love that. So make sure that you go check out all the bands that I'm playing in the show notes. I put links to their Spotify. So pretty much wherever you're listening, you can just scroll down, click on the band, and be taken to their music, and then give them follow, give them a listen, check out their catalog, give them some. We, as a local musician myself, we really, truly appreciate it. Everybody truly appreciates it. It's so easy and quick. But anyway, right in the show notes, click on all the bands and go and support them. Super free, by the way. Super duper free. So let's go in and check in with Joseph Biss of Joseph's folk corner and see what's going on in the world of 518 folk music. So I guess over to you, Joseph.
• 26:21
Speaker F: Thanks, Andy. So, folks, I got a show that I've been waiting for for, like, two months now after I scoop my tickets, and it's finally here. It's this Friday. And that show. That show is the mountain goats. They are. They're back. They're back in the area. They're gonna be at the egg show starts at 08:00 they're gonna have Tiff Merritt as the opening act. And, yeah, I. It's. If you're not familiar with the mountain goats, this is a. This is like folk punk, if you. If you want to say it that way. At its finest. It's just in your face, very emotional, lyric heavy. It's just. It's very. It's very cool. And it's something that I personally am very inspired by. I know some other local folk acts are inspired by as well. And I'm just. I'm stoked that our area is. Is gonna be treated with. With such a thing. So this is going to be the, the rule of three tour. So it was originally going to be a duo tour. I mentioned this, this show when they first announced it, it was going to be a duo and just be John Darnil, the, the singer and their bassist. But it turns out the bassist is actually retiring from the band and is not going to be doing any of the upcoming tours and stuff like that. So they changed things around a little bit. It's going to be the, the rule of three tourists. So it's going to be actually a three piece. It's going to be John on acoustic guitar and singing. And then Matt Douglas is a multi instrumentalist and he's going to be playing in all the extra fills. And then John Wurster on the drums. So it's going to be, it's going to be pretty cool. And after they finish at the egg, they're going to be moving on to Pennsylvania, then Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois, and the back to New Jersey. So they're doing like an east coast Midwest kind of ride. And yeah, I'm super looking forward to it. It's a, like I said again, it's always a treat when we have these big, big folk acts coming to town. So, yeah, otherwise, that's all I got for you today. I hope everyone's having a lovely beginning of fall. As I look out and I see so many leaves just tumbling across the driveway and the grass is slowing down its growth. The tomatoes, they're fading. They're fading fast and they're limping along. But yeah, as it goes. Well, back to you, Andy. Thank you so much. I appreciate you all. Ta ta.
• 28:44
Speaker A: Thank you, Joseph. Again, that is Joseph Biss, a great musician himself. You should check him out. His music is available on, you know, apple music and Spotify and everywhere. All right, so going back to the Metroland concert calendar, we're looking at Saturday at 04:00 p.m. a. Nice early show. It is little saints at the park theater, and it is actually a free show. So go check out little Saints at 04:00 at the Park Theater in Glens Falls. And right now we're going to play a song from little Saints. This is birthday party, and it's right here on unsigned 500 eighteen's weekend spotlight.
• 29:20
Speaker G: I smelled your cigarettes and your hesitation time flying by like it's got someplace to be recorded online. Like I'm gonna go back and read. No one see me, no one's hearing me, but no one's got that kind of energy for free.
• 29:57
  Speaker B: But really.
• 30:00
Speaker G: You'Ve been having my party all alone and I sat here by myself and not knowing where I belong.
• 30:09
Speaker C: Cause I'm 16 hours knowing that great desire that you're burning while you see a smile and I want someone else out and stuff.
• 30:45
Speaker G: I bargained on my peace and lost your time and attention reaching out for something that can depend on the sun's beating down making a dragulite but it doesn't stop the walk taking space inside my eyes I looked out to the sky for some communication seems like the guys are selling me out for vacation now I'm cursed with no compass accounting hiding out, not being river my anniversary no one's hearing me yet no one's hearing me but no one's got that kind of energy for.
• 31:42
  Speaker A: Free but really.
• 31:48
Speaker G: You'Ve been at my party all alone and I sat here by myself and I know it we're all alone cause I'm 16 hours knowing.
• 32:01
  Speaker C: That.
• 33:24
Speaker A: Little saints with birthday party what a great song. So that's just about it for this week's edition of unsigned 500 eighteen's weekend spotlight. But before we go, you know, again, I was saying, this show is all about the music, and I want to put more of a focus on music on these episodes and play more music. And, you know, obviously, I reach out to the artists and make sure that it's cool that I play their songs before I play them. So everything that you're hearing, I have contacted them and got permission ahead of time, so. But I was thinking, like, as I was putting this episode together, literally, like, minutes ago, and I was like, okay, you know, the episodes together, everything's all put together. There's just a couple things I got to touch up, and. And I was like, I want the one. One more song in it. You know, what. What song could I put in it? And then I got a message from Ben Gorman, and he was like, you know, hey, I got a new song with this outfit, zaboo Mafoo with Andrew Cerone of Pine Boys and Andrew Goldwyn of Adequate Phil and Big maybe and Zephyr and like, a million other bands. And he was like, we have this project and this song called Uncle Sam's Grave. Is there any way that, you know, you can throw it on an episode of the weekend spotlight? And I was just like, holy shit. Like, that is absolute serendipity, because I was like, I was literally sitting here going, I need another song. And then he gave me this song. So let's check out this song. It's like I said, the band name is Zabooma Fu, featuring Ben Gorman, Andrew Cerone, and Andrew golden. And the name of this song is Uncle Sam's great. And it's right here on unsigned 500 and eighteen's weekend spotlight.
• 35:10
Speaker B: Midnight at the graveyard, the moon is out. Hasn't rained in a couple of days. It's been a drought. Lose dirt shifts and sing fingers brassed the ceremony. Loose dirt shifts and sea head emerges and he starts to sing. I want you, Uncle Sam crawled right out? I want you, Uncle Sam crawled out the great Philadelphia, Pa New Haven, Connecticut, who's a mess? New York City Burlington, Vermont gonna set up my table? Join the army, you're gonna join the Navy enticing words at my table, join the coast guard, serve your country Denver, Colorado. Go Beaker, Kansas. Boise, Idaho. Seattle, Washington. The hand points your direction, you sign the paper, let go, you're gonna go to a foreign city, get on your boat and go. I want you, Uncle Sam sends you to your grave. He wants you, Uncle Sam sends you to your grave?
• 37:35
Speaker C: Uncle Sam sent you to your.
• 37:41
