- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome back to another episode of a Star
- 0:23Speaker 2: Wars Alliance. Of course, I'm your host, Clay and with
- 0:26Speaker 2: me like always. Of course, is Katie, Katie? How you
- 0:31Speaker 2: doing tonight?
- 0:33Speaker 3: I'm doing okay, you know what I'm doing. Okay. I
- 0:36Speaker 3: passed a work project off to somebody else because I
- 0:39Speaker 3: finished my portion. So I'm happy, happy camper.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Isn't that just like the best feeling ever when you
- 0:46Speaker 2: can just be like I'm done with this, like I
- 0:50Speaker 2: can breathe, I am good day. You know. So I
- 0:55Speaker 2: have seen Abby do that a ton with her job lately,
- 1:00Speaker 2: and she has kind of had a sigh of relief,
- 1:02Speaker 2: so I totally understand. But to jump right into this,
- 1:08Speaker 2: I want to go ahead and let everybody know we
- 1:10Speaker 2: are not going to be talking about the hunt for
- 1:14Speaker 2: Ben solo stuff because there's just not a whole lot
- 1:17Speaker 2: that was added to the conversation. Of course, there has
- 1:22Speaker 2: been a lot of tongue in cheek stuff that people
- 1:26Speaker 2: are seeing Adam Driver kind of doing, of course with
- 1:30Speaker 2: the pinball machine photo that was recently taken. In all
- 1:34Speaker 2: of that, we want more information to be able to
- 1:38Speaker 2: actually have a conversation about it rather than just naming
- 1:41Speaker 2: one or two things that happened. So we will push
- 1:45Speaker 2: that off to the site and we're going to go
- 1:47Speaker 2: right into our main topic tonight, which of course is
- 1:53Speaker 2: part one of our Vision's Volume three Deep Dive. The
- 1:59Speaker 2: three says we will be tackling today, of course, is
- 2:04Speaker 2: the Song of Four Winds, the Bounty Hunters, and Black. So, Katie,
- 2:14Speaker 2: which one do you want to tackle first?
- 2:16Speaker 3: I think we need to book into this. So, guys,
- 2:18Speaker 3: the Song of Four Wings and Bounty Hunters were clays
- 2:23Speaker 3: and my tops of this volume of visions, So that's
- 2:29Speaker 3: why we're tackling them kind of first, and then Black
- 2:32Speaker 3: kind of being our least favorite. I think we book
- 2:36Speaker 3: in with some positivity, So I think Black needs to
- 2:38Speaker 3: go in the middle.
- 2:40Speaker 2: I think that is best. So which of our favorites
- 2:46Speaker 2: do we want to talk about first?
- 2:49Speaker 3: Well? I got a Song of Four Wings and Bounty
- 2:51Speaker 3: Hunter at the top because they kind of split my
- 2:53Speaker 3: notes page in my planner, so either what Well.
- 2:58Speaker 2: If we go in order of release on the actual
- 3:02Speaker 2: Disney Plus page, the Song of Four Wins is first.
- 3:06Speaker 3: It is wings. What did I say wins?
- 3:12Speaker 2: Did I say wins?
- 3:13Speaker 3: You keep saying wins.
- 3:15Speaker 2: The Song of four Wings. Excuse me, it's my favorite
- 3:20Speaker 2: episode of this season. You would think that I would
- 3:22Speaker 2: get the title correct, so the Song of four Wings.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Oh man, And the Wikipedia has like a really cool
- 3:33Speaker 2: I wish that like these little borders would not pop
- 3:37Speaker 2: up when you click on something for.
- 3:41Speaker 3: So apparently if you create an account, you can get
- 3:44Speaker 3: rid of ads. So I just now saw that pop up.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Oh really, so I think I'm going to.
- 3:50Speaker 3: Be doing that to get rid of the ads.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Oh interesting, But yeah, the the photo that is actually
- 4:00Speaker 2: on the Wikipedia page is absolutely amazing. I love that photo.
- 4:08Speaker 2: So let's go ahead and jump right into the non
- 4:13Speaker 2: spoiler talks of the Song of four Wings. Hot, okay,
- 4:25Speaker 2: So of course we spoke briefly about this when we
- 4:31Speaker 2: actually talked about our rankings. This is by far my favorite.
- 4:39Speaker 2: It has a special piece of anime genre that is
- 4:45Speaker 2: just so silly and near and dear to my heart
- 4:48Speaker 2: just because it was a part of my childhood, and
- 4:50Speaker 2: that is the Magical Girl transformation. And this is non spoilers.
- 4:58Speaker 2: I'm not going to be talking about the actual deta
- 5:00Speaker 2: tales of that, but it's a part of that genre.
- 5:03Speaker 2: So you're kind of, you know, for people who are
- 5:05Speaker 2: listening to this now, you know you kind of already
- 5:08Speaker 2: know what you're jumping into with this, which is perfect
- 5:11Speaker 2: because when you look at a poster or look at
- 5:13Speaker 2: the characters, it's not what you would expect, so you're like, oh,
- 5:17Speaker 2: how do we get there? So I think that is
- 5:20Speaker 2: very very cool. I love the animation of this episode.
- 5:27Speaker 2: I love the sound design. The voice acting is top
- 5:35Speaker 2: notch on both because I watched this both in English
- 5:40Speaker 2: and in Japanese. Really great voice acting on both ends.
- 5:46Speaker 2: And I think that with a lot of these having
- 5:53Speaker 2: a kind of hey will there be a next time
- 5:59Speaker 2: kind of ending, I think this is one of those
- 6:02Speaker 2: episodes that I'm really hoping, like, Hey, maybe we can
- 6:06Speaker 2: come back to this, whether that be in a book
- 6:09Speaker 2: and a comic, in a audio original, whatever it may be.
- 6:15Speaker 2: I think this is one of those perfect stories for that.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. I agree with everything you said. I think
- 6:23Speaker 3: this one still is not like my top. I think
- 6:27Speaker 3: Bounty Hunter still remains my top. But I love how
- 6:30Speaker 3: this episode is full of joy, hope, and heartbreak for
- 6:34Speaker 3: both main characters involved. And I really enjoy how the
- 6:42Speaker 3: Song of Four Wings manages the choice and faith version
- 6:49Speaker 3: of Star Wars versus Destiny, Like there's a lot of
- 6:53Speaker 3: choice in what Karane is choosing. Karane is choosing to do,
- 6:59Speaker 3: but she also talks about faith in her destiny and
- 7:03Speaker 3: realizing that, hey, I'm here for a different purpose. And
- 7:05Speaker 3: I think that is really enjoyable in a storytelling format,
- 7:11Speaker 3: and especially not having the Jedi president here. Yes, oh, Like,
- 7:17Speaker 3: I think it's a top tier story because it manages
- 7:22Speaker 3: to focus on the little guy versus.
- 7:25Speaker 2: And I don't think that's really a spoiler for the
- 7:28Speaker 2: fact that, like, you can't expect all of these stories
- 7:33Speaker 2: because we've seen in the past from volumes one and
- 7:38Speaker 2: two that not everything is going to be a Force user,
- 7:43Speaker 2: a Jedi. It's supposed to be just a niche. You
- 7:48Speaker 2: know what if Star Wars story for this independent studio.
- 7:54Speaker 3: So yeah, and I think Project Studio Q does a
- 7:59Speaker 3: really good job. But with it, we hadn't mentioned them yet,
- 8:01Speaker 3: but as a reminder, they did the Twins in the
- 8:04Speaker 3: first volume and that was another story that I really enjoyed.
- 8:08Speaker 3: So I think they nott it out of a park,
- 8:10Speaker 3: out of the park with this second iteration in their storytelling.
- 8:15Speaker 2: Yeah, very much. So I agree now going into our spoilers,
- 8:25Speaker 2: this episode follows a young princess by the name of
- 8:40Speaker 2: I'm trying to get the kan Karan. Kurane is the pronunciation,
- 8:49Speaker 2: but it is not.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Like it.
- 8:55Speaker 2: It's very ironic the way that you spell karane because
- 8:59Speaker 2: it is crane. The crane, of course, plays very well
- 9:05Speaker 2: into our other character, who is uh Bus, who is
- 9:15Speaker 2: the survivor of this attack on this random village. But
- 9:22Speaker 2: we are introduced to this princess as she is uh
- 9:28Speaker 2: driving a speed her a speeder on some sort of
- 9:31Speaker 2: like snowy range with her uh Droid unit her R
- 9:39Speaker 2: nine t R two. But her nickname for h t
- 9:47Speaker 2: R two is tour two, which I think is kind
- 9:51Speaker 2: of cute. Yes, we have a Monclomari who is also introduced, and.
- 10:00Speaker 3: He wears a scarf. Y'all, I had noticed he wore
- 10:04Speaker 3: a scarf.
- 10:04Speaker 2: I didn't the second time I watched it.
- 10:07Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I think that's hysterical.
- 10:13Speaker 2: But Uh, there's a little bit of a back and forth.
- 10:17Speaker 2: We kind of get like some sort of idea of
- 10:21Speaker 2: this version of the Star Wars Galaxy that uh Kurane
- 10:31Speaker 2: is a princess, but doesn't like the title anymore. Because
- 10:37Speaker 2: those days are behind them.
- 10:39Speaker 3: She doesn't have very much a Princess Leiah's story kind
- 10:44Speaker 3: of adaptation on her planet was destroyed, her country, her
- 10:51Speaker 3: planet no longer exists for her to rule, so she
- 10:56Speaker 3: kind of goes along with the Hey, like, let's the
- 11:00Speaker 3: past behind us because and like forget about it, because
- 11:06Speaker 3: she doesn't want to dwell in her grief.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Basically, yeah, yeah, but we learned that Tor two is
- 11:16Speaker 2: a very special royal droid that she does not want
- 11:22Speaker 2: to get rid of because it is the only droid
- 11:25Speaker 2: that can play her music. I thought this was very fun.
- 11:32Speaker 3: I did love the integration of the music in this.
- 11:36Speaker 3: It feels very natural going I enjoy music. I'm gonna
- 11:41Speaker 3: have a droid that plays music. My droid's gonna play
- 11:43Speaker 3: my music. Like I kind of dig that, and I
- 11:47Speaker 3: love that it's actually it looks like a cassette y
- 11:52Speaker 3: versus having something new fangled and everything. It felt kind
- 11:56Speaker 3: of Easter eggy.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Yes, very easy. We will be talking about another Easter
- 12:03Speaker 2: egg next week. A little bit of a homage if
- 12:09Speaker 2: you will next week.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Not next week the week after.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Oh, you're right, you're right, it is a week after.
- 12:16Speaker 2: So with this, you're right. They could have very easily
- 12:20Speaker 2: put like some sort of CD or a thumb drive
- 12:25Speaker 2: looking thing or something very like alien to the Star
- 12:31Speaker 2: Wars universe. It could have very easily been created for this.
- 12:36Speaker 2: The fact that they use a cassette tape, I think
- 12:38Speaker 2: is a little nod to like, hey, this was made
- 12:42Speaker 2: in the seventies. What was really big in the seventies
- 12:45Speaker 2: cassette tapes?
- 12:47Speaker 3: Yeah, And I definitely love too that we actually got
- 12:50Speaker 3: an opening crawl with this. I think it's one of
- 12:54Speaker 3: the few, if not the only Visions episode that has
- 12:58Speaker 3: an opening crawl with it. It just goes to harken
- 13:04Speaker 3: back to kind of feeling empire strengths back e almost yep.
- 13:18Speaker 2: When we pick up where uh Tour two is picking
- 13:26Speaker 2: up a distress call. I what did when you first
- 13:33Speaker 2: watched this, Katie? What were you expecting?
- 13:40Speaker 3: It felt very reminiscent of hey, there's like there's a survivor.
- 13:46Speaker 3: So it kind of felt like it was going to
- 13:50Speaker 3: lean into that direction, especially from Karane and the Admiral
- 13:57Speaker 3: discussion on record of Sense and trying to figure out
- 14:01Speaker 3: why the Empire was there. So I felt like, Whoopa
- 14:05Speaker 3: is coming in as the survivor? Was super cool. Uh.
- 14:13Speaker 3: And I do love the integration of origami into this story.
- 14:20Speaker 3: Like we know George Lucas took several things from Japanese
- 14:23Speaker 3: mythology and history, so integrating that is uh was. I
- 14:30Speaker 3: was like yes, uh when that came on the screen
- 14:33Speaker 3: for the first time, those cranes and hearing Karane tell
- 14:39Speaker 3: the story of the mythical deity that the Goagrrans have.
- 14:43Speaker 3: I loved that integration as well because it shows she
- 14:48Speaker 3: cared about the planet and then the go the Gogran
- 14:55Speaker 3: race and stuff that was involved, like she knew why
- 14:59Speaker 3: she was on the planet and wanted to do her
- 15:02Speaker 3: research about the culture and everything.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Yeah. I will be honest. When I first watched this
- 15:12Speaker 2: on my very first watch, I was not expecting the
- 15:19Speaker 2: like next back, next best thing compared to Grogu. I
- 15:28Speaker 2: I was expecting a team or a child or technically
- 15:36Speaker 2: is a child. Technically is a child, but I and
- 15:41Speaker 2: I guess this is more so like my ignorance in
- 15:45Speaker 2: or at least falling into ignorance of what we kind
- 15:48Speaker 2: of see all the time with Star Wars is we
- 15:50Speaker 2: don't see enough aliens, So I was not expecting this
- 15:56Speaker 2: cute fur ball thing, but which.
- 16:00Speaker 3: Is the Gogredon is an actual species in Star Wars
- 16:03Speaker 3: by the way, so you did get I was not
- 16:07Speaker 3: aware of that, but I looked it up and there
- 16:10Speaker 3: actually are a current species and everything. So because like
- 16:16Speaker 3: I did, like how Projects Uoq chose to reuse things
- 16:20Speaker 3: from canon but also change some things up, like reusing coaxium,
- 16:24Speaker 3: which I know we're not at that part yet, but
- 16:27Speaker 3: I appreciate it, Like it feels like every New Star
- 16:30Speaker 3: Wars element, we have a different way to say hyper
- 16:33Speaker 3: fuel and a different element that can be used to
- 16:36Speaker 3: generate hyper fuel, so reusing kaxium. I know this isn't canon, Guys,
- 16:40Speaker 3: don't keep me wrong, but I just appreciated, Hey, we're
- 16:43Speaker 3: going to reuse this, instead of.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Adding the fact that like, uh, you know, this isn't
- 16:51Speaker 2: the episode we're going to talk about that particular episode,
- 16:55Speaker 2: but the episode that is tie old UGO's Treasure. We
- 17:02Speaker 2: talked about it when we were talking about rankings. The
- 17:05Speaker 2: fact that they used tantoine and the way that tantoine
- 17:11Speaker 2: is knotically like seene or and stuff like that. It
- 17:17Speaker 2: has a sense of like reminiscence and nostalgia. So having
- 17:24Speaker 2: that here in this episode I think was very helpful. Also, Gagorans,
- 17:32Speaker 2: for people who don't know, they are like the bottomle
- 17:35Speaker 2: snowman type of looking thing. They have quite a few
- 17:40Speaker 2: appearances in Young Jedi adventures. Uh, I don't remember any
- 17:47Speaker 2: Gogorans in Young Jedi. I like, I'll have to go
- 17:51Speaker 2: I'll have to go back and see if I spot them.
- 17:55Speaker 2: But I really dug the use of you know, because
- 18:02Speaker 2: that was one of my highlights when when ranking the
- 18:05Speaker 2: uh the eighty eighties. The fact that like we see
- 18:12Speaker 2: them burst out of the snow, for one thing, was
- 18:17Speaker 2: absolutely insane. Like I don't know what I was expecting,
- 18:22Speaker 2: like for like tie fighters and speeders to just start
- 18:26Speaker 2: flying out and trying to chase Karane and whoop us. Yeah,
- 18:31Speaker 2: that would be the normal thing to see. But the
- 18:33Speaker 2: fact that they were able to surprise the audience by
- 18:39Speaker 2: having these giant monstrosities burst out of the snow, I
- 18:45Speaker 2: think is so much cooler.
- 18:47Speaker 3: It's so fun, and it gives you that traditional Star
- 18:52Speaker 3: Wars element while introducing new things by having them fancified
- 18:56Speaker 3: with like extra guns and stuff coming out of what
- 19:00Speaker 3: I think is typically the troop transport area. By the way,
- 19:04Speaker 3: Adrian is in the chat. Adrian, Hello, I think, sure,
- 19:09Speaker 3: once we get to Black, We're about to insult one
- 19:11Speaker 3: of your favorites.
- 19:12Speaker 2: I think, so I apologize Adrian. We will have I
- 19:18Speaker 2: will actually have criticism. It's not that I'm just going
- 19:22Speaker 2: to just say blah, f this. I I have questions
- 19:29Speaker 2: that I feel like need answers. But we would talk
- 19:32Speaker 2: about it. But like, yeah, you were talking about how
- 19:36Speaker 2: uh the uh the A Eights have like these like
- 19:42Speaker 2: extra like guns, and like I think it has like
- 19:46Speaker 2: eight extra arms that pop out yep and start blasting
- 19:50Speaker 2: at Karane. Like my jaw literally dropped. I was like,
- 19:55Speaker 2: oh my god, like I've never seen this before. This
- 19:58Speaker 2: is so cool. And I think that when we are
- 20:03Speaker 2: seeing the evolution of Star Wars, like when you look
- 20:07Speaker 2: at the prequel trilogy, then you look at the original trilogy,
- 20:14Speaker 2: and then you look at the sequel trilogy. In the
- 20:17Speaker 2: sequel trilogy, like you see some things updated, but a
- 20:23Speaker 2: majority of everything that we see is a brand new
- 20:28Speaker 2: product within the Star Wars universe. They don't adapt old tech.
- 20:36Speaker 2: I think it would make more sense to adapt old tech, Like, hey,
- 20:43Speaker 2: we've spent billions upon billions of credits on these war machines,
- 20:51Speaker 2: and they are obsolete, so let's just upgrade them. People
- 20:56Speaker 2: do it with vehicles and other machinery in the real
- 20:59Speaker 2: world all the time. So I think that it would
- 21:02Speaker 2: be interesting that in the next few phases of Star
- 21:08Speaker 2: Wars movies that we see that we do start to
- 21:11Speaker 2: see those types of updates. I think that would be
- 21:13Speaker 2: really really fun.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I do as well, and I there is reuse
- 21:21Speaker 3: within the books, there's just not any real showcasing of
- 21:26Speaker 3: it on screen, and so I think doing that would
- 21:33Speaker 3: not necessarily improve things, but make things make you understand
- 21:37Speaker 3: kind of what's going on versus Hey, we're just gonna
- 21:39Speaker 3: melt everything down and start over.
- 21:41Speaker 2: So yeah, but I know, I like fangirled over this.
- 21:50Speaker 2: But the magical transformation, what was your reaction did you
- 22:00Speaker 2: have an eye roll moment? Did you be like, hey,
- 22:03Speaker 2: this isn't like because I know that some people probably
- 22:06Speaker 2: had this type of reaction of like, oh, that's not practical.
- 22:09Speaker 2: But again, this is the animation. This is a whole
- 22:14Speaker 2: new version of Star Wars, so anything is possible. So
- 22:19Speaker 2: tell me your reaction with that.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Uh, you're talking about armor mode, right, yes, okay, cool?
- 22:26Speaker 3: So I loved Armor mode. I did not. Irol I
- 22:32Speaker 3: was like, oh she turned into a ship. Oh she's
- 22:35Speaker 3: an x way like And I know if she wasn't
- 22:38Speaker 3: technically an x waying, but like armor, Moude kind of
- 22:40Speaker 3: took her into the form of it. It was super cool.
- 22:43Speaker 3: I dug it. I think that's something that should be
- 22:46Speaker 3: reused because.
- 22:47Speaker 2: That was awesome. I think with the with the amount
- 22:53Speaker 2: of droids that we see just kind of stand around,
- 22:59Speaker 2: I think they should have this type of use.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Now, I will say they could have probably made the
- 23:08Speaker 3: blaster sequence a little more realistic. Like I say realistic,
- 23:15Speaker 3: that's not what I mean, like when the cable is
- 23:18Speaker 3: not plugged in for the blasters to work. I do
- 23:22Speaker 3: think she could have gotten away from like what do
- 23:25Speaker 3: you mean it's broken? Like oh, we could have said like, oh,
- 23:29Speaker 3: it didn't line up properly or something, because that's a
- 23:31Speaker 3: super fast transformation from droid to pieces to shit. Most Yeah,
- 23:39Speaker 3: so we could have gone about that a little bit differently,
- 23:41Speaker 3: and maybe the Japanese version of the language kind of
- 23:46Speaker 3: iterates that a little bit better, and the English translation
- 23:49Speaker 3: didn't make as much sense.
- 23:51Speaker 2: I have to watch it again. I can't remember the
- 23:53Speaker 2: exact verbiage that was used in that sequence, but I
- 23:58Speaker 2: somewhat agreed. I understand that it could sound a bit
- 24:05Speaker 2: lazy or like non imaginative, like oh, it's broken, Like
- 24:11Speaker 2: it's just like a very simple way out to like, oh,
- 24:15Speaker 2: now whoopus has to use the force to fix it?
- 24:18Speaker 2: You know. Yeah, I think that there could have been
- 24:22Speaker 2: some sort of other explanation to help them connect the
- 24:29Speaker 2: dots to get to whoops actually using the force. Yeah.
- 24:34Speaker 2: And also it may just be the simple fact of like, hey,
- 24:39Speaker 2: we made this animation because like when it comes to
- 24:44Speaker 2: the plug in, for one, I think it's so funny that.
- 24:48Speaker 3: It's a standard plug.
- 24:50Speaker 2: It looks like a standard plug, like something like a
- 24:53Speaker 2: vacuum white like.
- 24:55Speaker 3: It would have made more sense if it was like
- 24:57Speaker 3: a wiring board or exactly.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Like for exactly plug, but it was specifically like a chord,
- 25:03Speaker 2: like a plug that you a power chord. Yeah, So
- 25:06Speaker 2: the fact that that it's that I think is absolutely hilarious.
- 25:09Speaker 2: But again, it's literally like just inches away from the
- 25:15Speaker 2: actual plug. So I think that this was a studio
- 25:20Speaker 2: move to be like, hey, we don't want to go
- 25:22Speaker 2: too crazy with this animation, because we just spent hundreds,
- 25:27Speaker 2: if not thousands of dollars actually transforming her on screen,
- 25:31Speaker 2: so let's see how we could make this simple.
- 25:41Speaker 3: Yeah, and the plug didn't necessarily fuck me. It was
- 25:45Speaker 3: the verbiage in hey, like I'm reiterating kind of like
- 25:50Speaker 3: I'm old kind of thing. We have left that off
- 25:53Speaker 3: and gone into a different direction of hey, we missed
- 25:58Speaker 3: it in the transformation kind of thing. So it's a nitpick.
- 26:03Speaker 3: I love the episode, but it's a nippick. And and
- 26:07Speaker 3: you already said this, by the way, but Stephanie schu
- 26:11Speaker 3: is the English voice for Karane in this uh film
- 26:18Speaker 3: episode UH. She does an incredible job. I love it.
- 26:22Speaker 3: She felt natural. I was like, hey, I know who
- 26:25Speaker 3: this voice actor is, but I can't place her. And
- 26:27Speaker 3: as soon as I saw it was Stephanie Shoe, I
- 26:30Speaker 3: couldn't believe it. Like I felt like the voice she
- 26:34Speaker 3: she did a very good job transforming herself. So I
- 26:38Speaker 3: just wanted to bring that up.
- 26:42Speaker 2: And that.
- 26:42Speaker 3: I love the slang shot, I love the northern lights,
- 26:46Speaker 3: Aurora Borealis esque sky, super awesome. I just they definitely
- 26:53Speaker 3: tried to integrate what we see into this episode versus
- 26:59Speaker 3: just go and completely star Wars. I still take it.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's one of my favorite lines, the
- 27:09Speaker 2: wait you know how to use thermal detonators where you
- 27:12Speaker 2: just see again this cute, fuzzy looking creature grab the
- 27:17Speaker 2: thermal detonator that Tortuu pulls out, puts it in a
- 27:20Speaker 2: slingshot and just throws it. It's absolutely amazing. But when
- 27:27Speaker 2: they destroy the mining facility, it immediately jumps to them
- 27:32Speaker 2: in their ship, which, by the way, I would like
- 27:35Speaker 2: to know the actual ship name or ship model of that,
- 27:43Speaker 2: because it looks like a miniature Millennium Falcon with like
- 27:48Speaker 2: a weird little like arm with it, which I thought
- 27:53Speaker 2: was interesting.
- 27:54Speaker 3: There is no ship name or star fighter ship model
- 28:00Speaker 3: model on Wikipedia, so they probably just said I want
- 28:05Speaker 3: a cool spaceship.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Okay, I dug it. I thought it looked really cool. Yeah,
- 28:13Speaker 2: it made me do like a double take when I
- 28:15Speaker 2: saw the actual shape of it. But then we like again,
- 28:20Speaker 2: we get this kind of Hey, maybe there will be
- 28:23Speaker 2: a continuation type of ending, which I really do appreciate
- 28:28Speaker 2: with these because it does give hope to not only
- 28:32Speaker 2: the fans that kind of fall in love with these episodes,
- 28:35Speaker 2: but like, hey, it leaves the relationship open with these
- 28:38Speaker 2: studios to be like, hey, not only is it a
- 28:42Speaker 2: possibility that we continue your work, but also we can
- 28:47Speaker 2: continue this relationship and work on other things as well.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Yeah for sure. Yeah, I one hundred percent agree. I
- 28:58Speaker 3: think that the ninth Jedi series that's upcoming is a
- 29:04Speaker 3: good way for Disney to continue the relationships and continue
- 29:08Speaker 3: to build on these stories and figuring out like, hey,
- 29:11Speaker 3: is there a possibility we can integrate this somehow, Like
- 29:18Speaker 3: I think Bounty Hunters, for instance, could fit perfectly in
- 29:21Speaker 3: the prequel era, like so stuff like that.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so as well. Uh. But with that,
- 29:33Speaker 2: let's unfortunately move to uh what uh again, this isn't
- 29:42Speaker 2: going to be a hey, let's shit on this episode.
- 29:47Speaker 2: When we talked about it in our rankings, we mentioned, hey,
- 29:51Speaker 2: this genre is just not for us. Totally understandable. It's
- 29:56Speaker 2: not our cup of tea. I literally sent a picture
- 30:07Speaker 2: of me watching it to Katie right before us recording,
- 30:12Speaker 2: and I was like, longest twelve minutes of my life
- 30:16Speaker 2: because I legit I had to pause it once just
- 30:19Speaker 2: to confirm if my like eyes were in fact deceiving
- 30:22Speaker 2: me in that one scene where it's like did a
- 30:25Speaker 2: whole bunch of people just have bathing suits on, and
- 30:28Speaker 2: yes they in fact did. I have photo evidence, and
- 30:34Speaker 2: so I played it.
- 30:35Speaker 3: One of my one of my questions is literally a
- 30:39Speaker 3: woman and dude have same tattoo. Question park Like, well,
- 30:45Speaker 3: I let's do our non spoiler.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I was gonna say before we jump into this
- 30:52Speaker 2: fully small tidbits of spoilers there. Non spoiler thoughts. One,
- 31:00Speaker 2: this was not my cup of tea. I was not
- 31:04Speaker 2: for it. On my first watch, I fell asleep, and
- 31:08Speaker 2: falling asleep is a harsh like phrase. I dozed the
- 31:12Speaker 2: off is what happened. So watching it again, I was like, Okay,
- 31:21Speaker 2: I'm wide awake. I just chugged a soda. I have
- 31:26Speaker 2: a little bit of a sugar high. Let's see if
- 31:28Speaker 2: my adhd brain can just stick with this for twelve minutes.
- 31:33Speaker 2: It can't be that hard. I looked at my phone
- 31:36Speaker 2: twice and I caught myself looking at my phone and
- 31:39Speaker 2: I just slammed it down. Uh, it's it's hard again.
- 31:46Speaker 2: This genre has a fan base the psychedelic music video, Like, hey,
- 31:56Speaker 2: all of my nineties babies that remember the colorful screensaver
- 32:02Speaker 2: when playing music on your dad's computer, Like everybody knows
- 32:07Speaker 2: that screensaver. That's basically what this was, just with Star
- 32:13Speaker 2: Wars characters integrated in it. It was just it was
- 32:19Speaker 2: hard for me to because the more and more and
- 32:24Speaker 2: I don't want to be one of those oh I
- 32:26Speaker 2: stick my nose up at you, but like, yeah, the
- 32:30Speaker 2: more and more I get older, I need a little
- 32:35Speaker 2: bit of purpose in the entertainment that I consume. Like
- 32:41Speaker 2: there's got to be a reason that I'm consuming this entertainment.
- 32:45Speaker 2: If you guys know us from the GUA, everybody knows
- 32:50Speaker 2: that I hate turn your brain off entertainment. I just
- 32:56Speaker 2: don't like it. And it's an ongoing joke with our
- 33:00Speaker 2: GUH chat with of course Brent, Chris and David with
- 33:05Speaker 2: Fast and Furious. But it's just it's it's it's not
- 33:10Speaker 2: my cup of tea. And I don't think this is, hey,
- 33:14Speaker 2: turn your brain off entertainment. I think you actually have
- 33:17Speaker 2: to stay focused and look at the imagery and try
- 33:23Speaker 2: to understand what the story is trying to tell you.
- 33:27Speaker 2: And I did. I there was parts where I was
- 33:29Speaker 2: like literally holding onto my arrow keys and like rewinding
- 33:35Speaker 2: because I thought I saw something and like continuing watching it.
- 33:39Speaker 2: And that's probably why the twelve minutes took a lot longer,
- 33:42Speaker 2: but still like it was just too much for me.
- 33:47Speaker 2: And I think that it's okay because not everything is
- 33:53Speaker 2: going to be for me.
- 33:55Speaker 3: Yeah, for me, the biggest thing probably is a the
- 34:02Speaker 3: arts in the coloring makes me think zombies, and everybody
- 34:08Speaker 3: knows who knows me knows I don't do well with zombies.
- 34:12Speaker 2: I can understand that.
- 34:15Speaker 3: The other thing that I have always had problems with,
- 34:18Speaker 3: and again it's just the genre really.
- 34:22Speaker 2: Is.
- 34:23Speaker 3: I'm not huge into silent movies. It takes a lot
- 34:26Speaker 3: for me to be actively engaged with something that does
- 34:32Speaker 3: not have any words surrounding it. I am one of
- 34:34Speaker 3: those people who if you told me to picture an
- 34:37Speaker 3: apple in my brain, I can't do that. Like, yeah,
- 34:41Speaker 3: you can't.
- 34:42Speaker 2: You never had this conversation, Oh, hold your breaks. How
- 34:47Speaker 2: do you read books?
- 34:50Speaker 3: Well? Like, I will like actively look up things and like,
- 34:55Speaker 3: but like my imagination, I don't remember dreams. Like everything
- 35:00Speaker 3: I do is basically writing out things in my brain
- 35:05Speaker 3: to like articulate it.
- 35:09Speaker 2: That's wild. So I don't know, I'd like, Honestly, I've
- 35:13Speaker 2: seen these videos all the time when I'm scrolling through
- 35:15Speaker 2: TikTok and Instagram of like, hey, there's people who actually
- 35:18Speaker 2: Katie imagine these things in their brain. I'm just like,
- 35:21Speaker 2: that's not real. You're just trying to get views. And
- 35:24Speaker 2: I never knew that Katie was one of these people. No.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Yeah, So like because of that, I have a very
- 35:30Speaker 3: hard time processing images to like I don't get the
- 35:37Speaker 3: metaphorge with imagery and like the storytelling aspects, like I
- 35:40Speaker 3: need words.
- 35:42Speaker 2: So that's understandable.
- 35:43Speaker 3: Yeah, Silent movies have always been tough for me to understand,
- 35:47Speaker 3: and so the art and the coloring, but also the
- 35:51Speaker 3: pacing of this I'm reading on the Wikipedia page. This
- 35:55Speaker 3: scene is twelve minutes and actually has nine scenes with
- 36:00Speaker 3: nine different animators, and it is very fast paced. We
- 36:07Speaker 3: are going from one shot to another to another, and
- 36:13Speaker 3: my brain is like, hey, can we slow this down
- 36:15Speaker 3: because I don't understand a lick of what's going on, Like, so, well,
- 36:19Speaker 3: I have a question here about my attempt at a
- 36:23Speaker 3: summary for what's going on in this episode.
- 36:26Speaker 2: Yeah, and then go ahead and ask that question, read
- 36:29Speaker 2: that off, and then we can get into kind of
- 36:31Speaker 2: spoilers on like what we kind of interpreted with this
- 36:36Speaker 2: psychedelic dream.
- 36:38Speaker 3: So like, my full interpretation of this short is a
- 36:42Speaker 3: guy's life flashing before his eyes as the death Star
- 36:45Speaker 3: blows up basically, But then I wrote that kind of
- 36:50Speaker 3: like most of the way through. But then you get
- 36:52Speaker 3: to a part where there's like he's in a tie
- 36:55Speaker 3: fighter and like he like is landing on this planet
- 36:59Speaker 3: of crash something, and I'm like, wait, so is the
- 37:03Speaker 3: death Star? Like did I get the death start wrong
- 37:05Speaker 3: in this? And then the death Star shows back up
- 37:07Speaker 3: and it pins back and forth, and I got really confused.
- 37:13Speaker 2: It does move all over the place and the perspectives.
- 37:18Speaker 3: That's the sort of thing is the fast paced makes
- 37:22Speaker 3: me nauseated because.
- 37:24Speaker 2: I was going to ask if it was. Yes, that
- 37:27Speaker 2: was one of my biggest questions for you, because just
- 37:31Speaker 2: because I know about your migraines, I wanted to note
- 37:35Speaker 2: if this was hard to process because of that.
- 37:40Speaker 3: Yes, all of the above with what I said, pull
- 37:43Speaker 3: us the fast pacedness just making things disorienting.
- 37:47Speaker 2: Yeah. Now, from what I am interpreting through this twelve
- 37:55Speaker 2: minute episode, we see the uh we see a firefight
- 38:03Speaker 2: in the very beginning. Then we see a hand to
- 38:06Speaker 2: hand combat between what is on my third view of
- 38:12Speaker 2: this a person fighting himself.
- 38:19Speaker 3: That's what it feels like, which is where like because
- 38:23Speaker 3: we talked about this last week where we heard the summary.
- 38:28Speaker 3: We heard a summary from somewhere who was like, this
- 38:30Speaker 3: is a Jedi knight who's stuck in Stormtrooper armor league
- 38:33Speaker 3: trying to defend himself. But then that's not actually what
- 38:36Speaker 3: this is.
- 38:37Speaker 2: But at what were two minutes in ten seconds? Two
- 38:50Speaker 2: minutes this year? I am right here. As soon as
- 38:55Speaker 2: the actual camera flips when they are kind of wrestling,
- 38:59Speaker 2: you see the floor turn into like a like mirror
- 39:05Speaker 2: of such, and it's the stormtrooper and a blue haired,
- 39:13Speaker 2: brown robed individual.
- 39:17Speaker 3: So maybe that's why we heard Jedi is because people
- 39:21Speaker 3: saw that were like Jedi question.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Mark, Yeah, but we never see the face of this individual.
- 39:29Speaker 2: It immediately moves on to a scene where the rebellion
- 39:35Speaker 2: is fighting Stormtroopers, and then from there it goes on
- 39:41Speaker 2: to again very dark, a lot of reds and greens.
- 39:47Speaker 2: We have this giant hand crawling on the floor like
- 39:51Speaker 2: chasing this person. I have no idea what that was.
- 39:54Speaker 2: I felt like I saw something in the background when
- 39:56Speaker 2: that was happening, and so I paused it, rewound, watched it.
- 40:00Speaker 2: It's himself looking at this giant hand chasing him, so like,
- 40:06Speaker 2: I this is something I literally need like a dream
- 40:10Speaker 2: interpreter to be like, Hey, what do you think this means?
- 40:14Speaker 3: I know Adrian, guys. Adrian has written reviews of ended
- 40:18Speaker 3: of every individual Vision's episode on but Why Though dot
- 40:22Speaker 3: com if you guys want to go check out like
- 40:24Speaker 3: full written reviews. He loved this episode. I have not
- 40:29Speaker 3: read his review.
- 40:33Speaker 2: So that way we could have our own opinions and
- 40:36Speaker 2: not be influenced by anybody.
- 40:40Speaker 3: Yes, but I don't want to hate on this episode
- 40:44Speaker 3: anymore because I do think my opinion and your opinion
- 40:48Speaker 3: is just mainly in the Hey, we don't enjoy the
- 40:55Speaker 3: silent movie aspect like in the Fast Place.
- 41:00Speaker 2: I did want to mention because again I was so
- 41:05Speaker 2: confused as when I first watched it. I actually again
- 41:11Speaker 2: got a quick snap of it on my phone.
- 41:15Speaker 3: Yeah, the bathing suits.
- 41:17Speaker 2: Everybody is just in bathing suits. And then it cuts
- 41:20Speaker 2: to the scene where our main character quote unquote is
- 41:25Speaker 2: sitting in a field shirtless with a woman with a
- 41:29Speaker 2: white shirt and they share tattoos. The only thing that
- 41:35Speaker 2: I have a problem with with these two scenes combined
- 41:39Speaker 2: is that it immediately takes me out of the Star
- 41:42Speaker 2: Wars universe.
- 41:43Speaker 3: Well, and that's where I was like, Okay, life flashing
- 41:46Speaker 3: before eyes kind of thing like before death. Like I
- 41:52Speaker 3: think that makes the most sense here, and that's what
- 41:56Speaker 3: the overall summary by this short is by David Production,
- 42:01Speaker 3: and the official description says, a psychedelic battle between past
- 42:05Speaker 3: and present, light and dark and life and death plays
- 42:08Speaker 3: out in the haunted psyche of an Imperial trooper who
- 42:11Speaker 3: is on the cusp of defeat. To me, that does
- 42:15Speaker 3: say life flashing before eyes, which is why we kind
- 42:18Speaker 3: of get different elements. They share a tattoo because that
- 42:23Speaker 3: was his the love of his life. Maybe I don't know,
- 42:28Speaker 3: I think that.
- 42:30Speaker 2: I don't know. Maybe I just want to see some
- 42:33Speaker 2: beach scenes more in Star Wars to make this understandable.
- 42:37Speaker 3: I'm not beach scenes in and Or.
- 42:45Speaker 2: I mean and in Rugue one. But but either way,
- 42:51Speaker 2: I am very glad that there are people out there
- 42:54Speaker 2: who did enjoy this episode, because one thing is for sure,
- 42:59Speaker 2: I never want to see something thrown into like the
- 43:07Speaker 2: Star Wars universe as an actual production and everybody universally
- 43:13Speaker 2: hates it. But not giving a real answer to you know, yeah,
- 43:18Speaker 2: We've seen that type of hate before and it was
- 43:20Speaker 2: just uncalled for because it was kind of pointless. This
- 43:25Speaker 2: again we had criticism not our cup of tea, but
- 43:30Speaker 2: there are people who really do enjoy it. And maybe
- 43:34Speaker 2: the fact that you know, I only watched it on
- 43:37Speaker 2: my computer and on my TV, Adrian over here got
- 43:42Speaker 2: to listen to it on a big screen and surround sound.
- 43:46Speaker 2: Maybe we just had the wrong you know, viewing session
- 43:49Speaker 2: for this to not really appreciate it entirely. Share. So
- 43:56Speaker 2: let's uh go to our last discussion of the night,
- 44:02Speaker 2: that being the Bounty Hunters. Yeah kay, you go first
- 44:07Speaker 2: on the non spoilers because this was your favorite episode
- 44:12Speaker 2: of this season.
- 44:21Speaker 3: Yes, so, guys, this this episode film is by WIT Studio.
- 44:27Speaker 3: It's their first iteration into the vision's point of view
- 44:34Speaker 3: for Star Wars. But I love this episode with all
- 44:37Speaker 3: my heart. And Eva four both personalities is a big
- 44:43Speaker 3: part of why the heart of the characters is super awesome,
- 44:48Speaker 3: and I particularly love the actions sequences in this episode.
- 44:55Speaker 3: I do also appreciate once again that this episode kind
- 45:01Speaker 3: of delves on choice versus destiny, even though we do
- 45:06Speaker 3: have destiny mentioned in this again. Seven is seven and
- 45:13Speaker 3: Eve before don't have Force capabilities. It's been a blip
- 45:17Speaker 3: in their lifetime and that was it. So the Force
- 45:20Speaker 3: is kept in the background on the episode and again
- 45:22Speaker 3: just boils down to hate. Regular people can make big
- 45:27Speaker 3: decisions and help the galaxy as a whole. And I
- 45:33Speaker 3: think it was not to bring politics into this, but
- 45:37Speaker 3: I definitely felt life yesterday during election Day. I know
- 45:41Speaker 3: it's an off year, but it just kind of goes
- 45:43Speaker 3: to show you, hey, we had all these turnarounds and everything,
- 45:46Speaker 3: and little people in your local elections and local choices
- 45:53Speaker 3: do big things.
- 45:54Speaker 2: So I agree with all of that. You know, the
- 46:00Speaker 2: we have found that when us particularly are reading books
- 46:08Speaker 2: in the Star Wars universe, we gravitate towards a lot
- 46:13Speaker 2: of the non Force users, a lot of the non
- 46:16Speaker 2: Jedi characters.
- 46:19Speaker 3: Because you see yourself in the galaxy.
- 46:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that is that is a big part
- 46:24Speaker 2: of it. And that's exactly what I was gonna say,
- 46:26Speaker 2: is that when everybody likes to, you know, pretend when
- 46:31Speaker 2: they were a kid to be the superhero and do
- 46:35Speaker 2: big things, and as you get older, you know, reality
- 46:40Speaker 2: kicks in and so you're like, how can I relate
- 46:42Speaker 2: to this and not to say that you can't relate
- 46:46Speaker 2: to heroes and big characters, because you totally can. But
- 46:50Speaker 2: when you're able to relate to a quote unquote non
- 46:57Speaker 2: special character and they do really big things, I feel
- 47:01Speaker 2: like that is a lot better of a connection than
- 47:08Speaker 2: always being like, oh, yeah, I connect to the hero
- 47:10Speaker 2: because he's the hero. Yeah, you know. And so with this,
- 47:17Speaker 2: I really dug it. The aspect of the dual personalities
- 47:23Speaker 2: book is not out yet, but in six days there
- 47:26Speaker 2: is another book that is coming out, that being mass.
- 47:31Speaker 3: Master Evil Evil, which, by the way, Clay and I
- 47:34Speaker 3: received physical copies of, so thank you Random Houseworlds. We
- 47:38Speaker 3: did get early e copies as well, but we're always
- 47:42Speaker 3: appreciative of getting to put books on our bookshelves.
- 47:46Speaker 2: So yes, very much so. But you know, we we
- 47:50Speaker 2: have been dealing with multiple personalities recently, and I just
- 47:55Speaker 2: think that's a very fun aspect, especially androids, So so
- 48:00Speaker 2: seeing it here I was really really fun.
- 48:03Speaker 3: And I did like this one's even made more special
- 48:07Speaker 3: by the fact and I know I'm cutting in your
- 48:08Speaker 3: non spoiler time, sorry, but I love that he gets
- 48:12Speaker 3: a different face for each personality and not just sticking
- 48:16Speaker 3: with the same face.
- 48:18Speaker 2: It it's a good visual as well as you know
- 48:24Speaker 2: audio Q to show when those personalities are taking over.
- 48:32Speaker 2: But like, this episode also has a fun little callback
- 48:37Speaker 2: to Clone Wars that we discussed when we were ranking
- 48:40Speaker 2: this episode, and I think that again, just having those
- 48:46Speaker 2: little things, those small little connections to the entertainment that
- 48:53Speaker 2: we already know and love again is a piece of
- 48:57Speaker 2: that nostalgia that's going to bring you back in. So
- 49:00Speaker 2: I really do enjoy that about this episode as well
- 49:03Speaker 2: as well as the big twist of the flashback that's
- 49:08Speaker 2: in this episode.
- 49:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I wrote that done, and I think we can
- 49:13Speaker 3: dive into spoilers now right from a certain point of
- 49:18Speaker 3: view flashback we start off in that and actually rewatching
- 49:22Speaker 3: that it really confused Matt for a second. He was like,
- 49:25Speaker 3: wait a second, this is not a sequel episode. I
- 49:28Speaker 3: thought like he thought it was like f for a second,
- 49:33Speaker 3: and I was like, no, we've not seen this before.
- 49:35Speaker 3: It's just a flashback. And so getting those duality of it,
- 49:40Speaker 3: like obviously the Jedi is there to take out the Slavers,
- 49:44Speaker 3: but also at the same time, I didn't really notice
- 49:48Speaker 3: the collar around Seven's neck in the first flashback. You
- 49:53Speaker 3: do see it, but it's not obvious until that second
- 49:57Speaker 3: flashback and like you see Seven as she realizes that
- 50:02Speaker 3: the kids are actually slaves and they have that collar,
- 50:06Speaker 3: you can actually see her like rubbing her neck where
- 50:08Speaker 3: her collar used to be and picking back picking up
- 50:14Speaker 3: on those in the second and third watches of this episode.
- 50:17Speaker 3: I really dug that, and like it's building that connection
- 50:22Speaker 3: to Seven's character as a whole.
- 50:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I dug the little nods. I think that when
- 50:33Speaker 2: you're watching something in live action, it's very noticeable when
- 50:39Speaker 2: you see that type of thing and in animation and
- 50:45Speaker 2: not saying that people don't have good eyes when they're
- 50:50Speaker 2: on their first watch of animation, but two for me personally,
- 50:57Speaker 2: when I go back and then notice, oh this was
- 51:00Speaker 2: here all along, I just wasn't paying attention that first
- 51:04Speaker 2: time around. I think that's very clever and I'm like, okay, cool,
- 51:08Speaker 2: Like I think that's fun.
- 51:11Speaker 3: Yeah, And it's those cues that you get from the
- 51:14Speaker 3: first watch, like you don't know to be looking for that,
- 51:17Speaker 3: in particular in the first flashback scene because it's the
- 51:20Speaker 3: opening scene of the short film, so uh, knowing what
- 51:27Speaker 3: to look for, I find it is also helpful. I
- 51:32Speaker 3: definitely found myself wanting to know more about seven, especially
- 51:37Speaker 3: like having the Shaan mentioned, like it sounds like another
- 51:41Speaker 3: Bounty Hunters guild. But also she was trained as a
- 51:44Speaker 3: child soldier, so kind of interesting. But then also throwing
- 51:48Speaker 3: in a reference to smugglers from Tassooine, I'm like, okay,
- 51:51Speaker 3: so it's this Han solo and Chewy like are they
- 51:54Speaker 3: hunting her kind of thing? Like yeah, just those little
- 51:58Speaker 3: tidbits in there. The voice acting Jodie Turnersmith is in
- 52:05Speaker 3: this and she is recognizable as you know, uh, the
- 52:10Speaker 3: sister of the Blue Twilight Karen in this episode. I
- 52:18Speaker 3: loved her voice acting. She made it super memorable and
- 52:24Speaker 3: you were you really go, oh, that's the mother from
- 52:27Speaker 3: the Accolyte, like at least to me. Yeah, And then
- 52:37Speaker 3: how do you pronounce Evil for his actor's name, Ronnie.
- 52:41Speaker 2: Seun Uh, it is uh Ronnie Shang Shang.
- 52:49Speaker 3: Super memorable, Like Evil four is my favorite droid of
- 52:54Speaker 3: the series, potentially tied with the one from the ninth
- 53:01Speaker 3: Jedi Todu, But I love adroid that commit me laugh,
- 53:08Speaker 3: and for me, laughter is like probably one of the
- 53:11Speaker 3: biggest things for me. And if something is memorable or
- 53:15Speaker 3: if it's not, and so having that comedic relief in
- 53:20Speaker 3: this episode, especially dealing with such a topic as slavery
- 53:24Speaker 3: and collection pieces, it really helps provide some levity to
- 53:32Speaker 3: the episode.
- 53:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I said this when we were ranking these episodes.
- 53:37Speaker 2: I'm a really big fan of Ronnie Shang If anybody
- 53:40Speaker 2: has not seen his stand up, I think it's readily
- 53:46Speaker 2: available on YouTube as well as on Netflix.
- 53:48Speaker 3: I'm gonna have to go look it up now.
- 53:49Speaker 2: I highly recommend it. He is absolutely hilarious. He also
- 53:53Speaker 2: has a couple spots weekly on the Daily Show with
- 53:59Speaker 2: John stuy and of course and other hosts. UH so
- 54:03Speaker 2: highly recommends watching his stuff. He was also uh a
- 54:07Speaker 2: character in Shang Chi recently, and I believe another Marvel show.
- 54:18Speaker 2: It might have been animated. I can't remember exactly, but yeah,
- 54:22Speaker 2: I really dug the voice actors as well. Uh on a,
- 54:30Speaker 2: how do you pronounce the last name Sawey? I here
- 54:38Speaker 2: as seven? Yes, I think I think it's Saway. Let
- 54:47Speaker 2: me see if her Wikipedia has a pronunciation breakdown at all.
- 54:52Speaker 2: No cool, But if people are not aware she is
- 55:02Speaker 2: famously I think that she just blew up from this show.
- 55:05Speaker 2: And everybody that I've talked to loves this show and
- 55:08Speaker 2: I need to give it a try is Showgun. She
- 55:11Speaker 2: was on the blu FX show Showgun. She was also
- 55:16Speaker 2: on Monarch Legacy of Monsters, the Godzilla tie in show
- 55:24Speaker 2: on Apple as well as of course, she has been
- 55:28Speaker 2: on the in the franchise of Fast and Furious. She
- 55:33Speaker 2: was in Fast nine and ten. So but yeah, I
- 55:41Speaker 2: really dug the episode overall, the fact that like, looking
- 55:49Speaker 2: at the big corporation, you know, us in the real
- 55:55Speaker 2: world right now are very much learning that whatever millionaires say,
- 56:02Speaker 2: it's kind of bs. Oh yeah, I'm here for the people.
- 56:06Speaker 2: And then like what I remember distinctively when watching this episode,
- 56:13Speaker 2: in particular the very first viewing when you see the
- 56:17Speaker 2: little girl, you know, dropping off the oil and drinks.
- 56:24Speaker 2: I was like, that's a slave, and then like he's
- 56:28Speaker 2: talking around it to make it like sound like it's
- 56:32Speaker 2: not a slave.
- 56:32Speaker 3: I've rescued her from more like I pay her, like yeah,
- 56:37Speaker 3: and even.
- 56:38Speaker 2: Seven's like, oh you are so generous, like oh you
- 56:42Speaker 2: you are such a savior, you.
- 56:44Speaker 3: Know, And it boils down to what seven ends up
- 56:49Speaker 3: is like, hey, like I can make the tough choice,
- 56:54Speaker 3: or I can which is the right choice, or I
- 56:57Speaker 3: can make the choice that works best for me, and
- 57:01Speaker 3: at the end of the day, she has to come
- 57:03Speaker 3: down to that choice, and it goes back to again, Hey,
- 57:06Speaker 3: the little people can do big things, Adriances. I love
- 57:10Speaker 3: Star Wars. Remember slaves exists. Yeah, And that's why I
- 57:15Speaker 3: think this one could fit super well within the prequel
- 57:18Speaker 3: trilogy as part of what we know Padme has done,
- 57:22Speaker 3: for instance, with the Queen's series and everything, And I mean,
- 57:31Speaker 3: it's it's a big part of unfortunately the world, but
- 57:36Speaker 3: it's also it's the legacy of the prequel trilogy. Not legacy,
- 57:42Speaker 3: but you know what I mean, it's a reference point things.
- 57:44Speaker 2: So you know, it's it's funny that that you kind
- 57:48Speaker 2: of say that because I legitimately just saw a video
- 57:52Speaker 2: about how on TikTok about how there's apparently a huge
- 57:59Speaker 2: amount of people that are saying, like, how did Star
- 58:06Speaker 2: Wars get so political?
- 58:10Speaker 3: And Star Wars has always been political.
- 58:13Speaker 2: That was the point of the video, and that was
- 58:15Speaker 2: the point of the video, and the person on the
- 58:19Speaker 2: video was saying like, hey, I understood this as a
- 58:22Speaker 2: seven year old, so let me break it down to you.
- 58:24Speaker 2: And they broke down how like in Phantom Menace, like
- 58:30Speaker 2: how Palpatine from the beginning was kind of already the
- 58:34Speaker 2: bad guy for you know, keeping like naboo in the
- 58:41Speaker 2: state that it was, and how all of the political
- 58:47Speaker 2: climate kind of peaked and somehow again it literally happened
- 58:54Speaker 2: in our own politics, so I can't be too baffled.
- 58:58Speaker 2: Like they elected him, you know, and he replaced the
- 59:03Speaker 2: guy that totally goofed. So uh, I've been using that
- 59:06Speaker 2: word a lot lately, goofed. But yeah, it's it's it's
- 59:10Speaker 2: just it's so funny, how you know the comment that
- 59:16Speaker 2: that you know, oh, I love when Star Wars remembers
- 59:19Speaker 2: slaves exist, Like this has always been a mirror to
- 59:25Speaker 2: our society, and hey, like this is stuff that actually happens.
- 59:33Speaker 2: Star Wars has always been political, and to remind people
- 59:39Speaker 2: of this, I think is super important, especially in the
- 59:43Speaker 2: year of twenty twenty five right now.
- 59:46Speaker 3: Yeah, and like and it goes back to to me
- 59:51Speaker 3: like struggling with imagery and everything, Like I didn't understand
- 59:55Speaker 3: Star Wars was political really until I started this podcast
- 59:59Speaker 3: and like diving more deep into the history and everything,
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: like it totally makes sense that Star Wars has always
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: been political and will continue to be political. Art is
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: political at the end of the day, Adrian says seven
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: did more for slaves than Qui gon Jen did. Yes,
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: that's accurate, and Adrian says request to join part two
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: when y'all talk about black, Adrian, we kind of already did,
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: but we will have you back on to talk about black. Yes, guys,
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: we broke this down into our top episodes and our
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: least favorite with this one. Next week we will talk
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: about the remaining or not next week. The week after
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: the plan is to talk about the remaining three episodes
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: that are not sequels, so that would be oh gosh,
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: I took my Wikipedia link down. It's Bird of Paradise,
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: you Goo's Treasure, and the Smuggler the Smuggler. But Adriene,
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: you come back in two weeks and we'll talk about
- 1:01:10Speaker 3: black with you.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: We'll talk yeah, yeah, and you know, making some uh
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: lovely but always accurate comments. It's always political when you're brown. Uh,
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: it's you know, a factual thing. Yes, Adrian, of course
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: you were always invited to join us on these breakdowns
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: on these episodes. Anytime you want to jump in, just
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: let us know. We will drop you.
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: And guys for the record, So next week we have
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: we are not going to be live. We're going to
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: have Vector Prime, which is the first episode in our
- 1:01:53Speaker 3: Patreon series for you guys. I'm having surgery on Friday,
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: and I'm just going to kind of take the week
- 1:01:59Speaker 3: to recover and then so the following week will be
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: Visions Part two, and then obviously Thanksgiving is the last
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: week of November. We will not be live that win today. Instead,
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: we're recording our thoughts on the sequel episodes of Visions
- 1:02:16Speaker 3: Volume three that Sunday, and then that episode will be
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: live for you guys on Thursday, on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday
- 1:02:25Speaker 3: for you guys to check out. So I'll send you
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: a message adrient, he says, full disclosure. I have three
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: pm alarms set on Wednesdays to remind me to hit
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: y'all up. But I'm shy. We'll get you, We'll get you.
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: I think from now on I should just throw you
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: the invite and if you want to join, you just join.
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: How about that?
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: I think that works too?
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: So awesome?
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: But was there anything else?
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: Oh?
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: I love that we have a dank feric reference. I
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: love when Star Wars curses and we have Star Wars
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: curse words. Don't laugh at me, Okay, I want to
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: know more Star Wars words.
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: I I I have also UH this. I didn't write
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: any notes this session, but in my first viewing because
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: I don't think this is the last episode that uses
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: curse words in the Star Wars universe. But I did
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: write a mental note of how many curse words are
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: in the Star Wars universe. I know there's like sith spit,
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: there's uh dank Feric, there's ri chriff. I I need
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: to know more, all right.
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: So here is a Looper article from last year. So
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: we have Auta, which is a hatiz cussword carabass from
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: rebels Kriff. Uh is definitely more Star Wars legends, but
- 1:04:21Speaker 3: I do believe Keith said it in the High Republic
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: comic series. Yes, and then uh Krick is another one
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: that they have on here. They don't have dank Ferrick.
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: So I don't think this is everything.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: Now. I do want to say something that has been
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: kind of uh an actual point of like conversation and
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: debate online. There is an ongoing joke and I think
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: people took it a little too far that in the
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: Jedi Survivor series, Calcasts calls UH droids clankers, And there
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: has been online debate on whether that is a slur
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: or not, and people are saying or debating that it's
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: not a slur. But when real life people are using
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: that phrase to mean something bad, that's when you are
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: pushing it to be an actual slur. But when you're
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: calling droids clankers, I just don't think it's a legitimate slur.
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: I feel like Clone Wars use that, so it's fine.
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: Adrian says, does Sarah's Blade count? I don't understand that reference.
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: I don't understand that reference either.
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: So when we have droid leg bones, uh, it's a slur.
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: When we have when we have droids like bunds, it's
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: a slur.
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, okay, yeah.
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: I could totally see that Droid spirit. I sent you
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: a list of freezes and slangs list from repeated in
- 1:06:28Speaker 3: the private chat. Sarah's Blade is not on there, so
- 1:06:32Speaker 3: I'm gonna.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: Have over here so I can look at it later. Cool.
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: But yeah, I love when Star Wars Courses also had
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: to point out the amount of Aliens in this episode. Uh,
- 1:06:48Speaker 3: super cool.
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: Yes, I think that all of the runaways are in
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: fact alien.
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: I do believe so too.
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: Yes, if I let's see here, because there's a point
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: where she has them in the handcuffs here. Yeah, every
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: single one of these is an alien, which I do appreciate.
- 1:07:16Speaker 3: Yeah, and Adrians is looking at visions. Imagine calling any
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: of the droids and Volume three Claiinker, I could.
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: Not, could not never. I love every single droid in
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: the series.
- 1:07:31Speaker 3: Yes, So guys, oh, I did have one final question
- 1:07:39Speaker 3: with you for you on this. So at the beginning
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: of the episode, Seven is wearing a face mask and
- 1:07:48Speaker 3: it moves with her. It does not It's not like
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: a medical face mask. It just feels like part of
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: her repertoire as a bounty hunter mercenary type person. And
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: the end of the episode, the mask is shut off
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: her face and broken. Why do you think Seven wears
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: the mask in this? And if we were to see
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: a part two, would the mask return?
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: So I'm trying to get okay. So one thing that
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: I did notice, I think it's more so on purpose
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: her hairstyle. Her hairstyle, she has three like bangs, very
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: large bangs, one of which covers her scar almost perfectly,
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: and you only see it when the camera angle is
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: perfect to where you can see just the edging of it.
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: So I think there is a lot of her she
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: is trying to hide. I think that this is more
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: so like imagery of Hey, you know, I am a
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: bounty hunter. I am doing these things for money, and
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: the less people see my face the better, you know,
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: type of ordeal. And yes, Adrian literally took the words
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: right out of my mouth. When the evolution of the
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: character from the beginning to the end, she no longer
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: has that mask. She has found herself. She is a
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: new individual. And even when you hear the way she
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: talks about the Jedi, that again we see the from
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: a certain point of view flashback second part of we
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: see that the Jedi helped her, and the way she
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: references the Jedi when they are running away at the
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: very end. You don't know if that is a playful
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: like oh, I'm really gonna, you know, teach her a
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: thing or two, or like, hey, we need to really
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: have a big discussion because you've changed my life for
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: the worse or for the good, you know, type of thing.
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: So I do think that if we were to get
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: a sequel to this comic book, whatever, if we see
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: a mask, it will only be for show, and it
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: will not be all the time, whereas here it was
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: all the time, because it is the imagery of like, hey,
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: I don't need that mask anymore.
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: I would agree. And for those listening, Adrian had said
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: to kind of summarize what clan has both thoughts are
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: a villain who takes off the mask to find her truth,
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: no longer hiding. And then he did also say, I
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: am glad it wasn't scars and such. Yes, I do
- 1:10:51Speaker 3: appreciate this. You don't have to wear a mask to
- 1:10:54Speaker 3: cover scars, and I'm really glad it was that as well.
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: He also said six out of the nine shorts featured
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: women as main characters. I did not realize this. I
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: think I put this together in my brain, but yes,
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: this is accurate, and I love this isle.
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: Is that a reoccurring thing for visions? Because looking at
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: UH volume two there is one, two, three, four, five,
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: six out of the nine also, and then when you
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: look at volume one, one, two, three, so it's it's
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: not so much on season one, but season two and
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: season three are on par with making UH female leads
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: for each episode, which I really do appreciate. Yeah, and
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: then yeah, like one thing that we have been saying
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: more often than not with these uh Visions episodes, if
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: Disney and Lucasfilm don't want to push for another high
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: production animated sequel on these, they should talk to the
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: production about collaborating with somebody like Viz Media or Kan
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: Dasha or these other manga publishers to make sequels of
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: their stories.
- 1:12:43Speaker 3: Yes, one hundred percent. And I do think with the
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: higher public partnership that happened the original manga that we're
- 1:12:51Speaker 3: getting it comes out next week, guys. The Path of
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: the Lightsaber, I think is what it's called. I I
- 1:12:59Speaker 3: do think there's more opportunities for mangas, especially with the
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: Vision's manga we're getting next summer as well, so I'd
- 1:13:07Speaker 3: love to see it happen. I think there's a lot
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: of episodes in this volume three they could go that
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: route and really expand upon things. The one thing I
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: would say is if you're going to do a sequel
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: or a continuation of these stories in some way, it
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: needs to be more respected than Ronan was for the duel.
- 1:13:32Speaker 3: But we'll talk about that in three weeks more with
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: the dual payback. Yes, yes, and Adrian says his rankings
- 1:13:42Speaker 3: for the volumes of volume two over volume one over
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: volume three. I would agree with that.
- 1:13:50Speaker 4: Okay, Adrian says, Roman, So mid dude.
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: The novel, hold on, hold on, Okay, we'll have.
- 1:14:05Speaker 3: To take this discussion offline.
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: Yeah, Asian, you're gonna have to join us in three
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: weeks talking about because for one, one thing that we said,
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: this isn't a spoiler for our rankings. Payback was our favorite.
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: Okay, he said, the sequel in the volume three Okay.
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, Yeah. Again, we had a small discussion on
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: threads about this because he he had mentioned that, like, hey,
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: this sequel on volume three did not hit as hard
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: as I would think it, you know, And for one,
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: this was another one of those marketing tools that they
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: were using, like, hey, this is the sequel to the
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: hit episode in volume one. You would think that it
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: would hit a lot harder, and it just didn't. So
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: we will talk about that in three weeks.
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: Again, we'll talk about that. Well, we'll have you have
- 1:15:04Speaker 3: to just come for part three and part three. Adrian Clay,
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: where can they find you?
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: Of course you can always find me at fanboy Clay
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: on any and all social media. Currently, Ranger Alliance is
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: uh may I say in limbo. Unfortunately, it's really weird
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: because we moved from Power Rangers to Sentai. Uh. And unfortunately,
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: just like schedules have been kind of out of whack
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: and so we haven't had time to record uh the
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: last episode. But the newest episode is coming out this week.
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: We're gonna do a double review on that one episode.
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: But guys, if you haven't heard Sentai as a franchise
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: is in limbo, they say, uh. And so we will
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: be discussing that on the next episode and what this
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: means for the franchise, how we're going to move forward.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: We're going to talk about some rumors that have been
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: circulating online about it. I think it'll be a very
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: fun discussion. So don't miss out on the next episode
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: of Ranger Alliance. Katie. What about you, y'all.
