- 0:00[SPEAKER_01]: It's Fakia Friday.
- 0:01[SPEAKER_01]: Fakia!
- 0:02[SPEAKER_01]: Get ready for some wins!
- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome to the Beat till you see it podcast, where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: I'm also Logan, Ply's instructor, and fit this business coach.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_01]: I've trained thousands of people around the world, and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self-doubt.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: My friends, action brings clarity.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: and it's the antidote to fear.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: Each week my guess will bring bold, executable, intrinsic, and targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and be it till you see it.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's a practice, not a perfect, let's get started.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: Happy to be.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: How are you?
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: We're almost there.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: We're almost to the holiday and then the chaos and I'm going to go on winter tour.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: We're almost there.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: We're not there yet.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: We got an extra week before that.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: One holiday comes up and I think that's great.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: And if you don't live in the States and you are just doing great.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_01]: All right, see if I have episode.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_01]: So this is where it's short sweet.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: I've sent a question as well, and so there's on the recap, those up and on Thursdays.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_01]: And if you've just happened on Tuesdays, I'm fucking love in the interviews that are coming up.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: And we have a really great one coming up that's going to lead into our Habit series.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: So, hope you're subscribed to the channel, if you've never missed an episode from us.
- 1:28[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, this was an interesting thing.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if it inspired me or pissed me off, so we're gonna remind ourselves together.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: So it says, around 76% of high-performing and women reportedly receive negative feedback from their managers compared to just 2% of high-performing men.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: Oh yeah, this one pissed me off.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_01]: This comes from data collected from 23,000 employees across 250 organizations, by the way.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: So not a small, not a small thing.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: Why is this happening?
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: Unconscious bias leads managers, male or female, to typically evaluate women during performance reviews on their personality rather than the work they contribute.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: Are they easy to work with?
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: Do they go along with everyone?
- 2:02[SPEAKER_01]: Are they likable or collaborative?
- 2:06[SPEAKER_01]: because then I just want to be fucking pissed off, right?
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: So no one's asking if a guy is likable, which by the way, often they smell or things like that.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: No one's asking.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: They are the value on the work they do.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: But it's always been this way.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: And we have to figure out how to change this.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: I think it comes from raising girls to be quiet, stop doing that.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_01]: We need to raise them to brag, you know?
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: And we need to raise, like we need to raise them.
- 2:30[SPEAKER_01]: not to be like, oh, you know, make sure you're kind of, no, tell people how you feel.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's important.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: So I think this is an interesting thing.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know how we solve this problem.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: But if you are a leader who gives reviews, maybe make sure that if you're calling women that their personality has some issues, make sure you do it with men too.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: Or don't do it with either of them, right?
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: These areas of feedback don't necessarily touch on women's performance, which hurts both the employee and the employer.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: the employee remember is a high performer.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: She's going to be looking for concrete ways to grow and progress in her career.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: If she's receiving feedback on how nice she is, well, she might not so she might start looking for a work elsewhere.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: Managers keep it constructive and hold on to top talent.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_01]: This is so true.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: If you've got this high-achieving women working for you, but you're busy working on things that they need to change about themselves, they're going to go somewhere else who wants them, right?
- 3:20[SPEAKER_01]: And you're also not helping them better themselves for the work that they're doing
- 3:24[SPEAKER_01]: So I love it.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: We need to consider the expectations on women because they are doing so much.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not trying to shit on the men because like there's some really great men out there, but I do think that we are missing out on some good stuff and we're not treating people in a way that allows everybody to win.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: And there is a way like that there's no pie, right?
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're going to do performance reviews around like ability that I do for everybody.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: If you're just going to do it on performance, you had to do it for everybody.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_01]: Like you can't have that bias.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_01]: And if you do have that bias, it's probably a good time to get that checked out.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe you need to change your review process.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: And if it's happening to you at your review process, get inspired by these other ways and find work somewhere else, where you can be challenged because you're fucking amazing.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: And start celebrating your wins in front of them.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: That might help them.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think sometimes it's really easy to go, oh, you know, like to downplay the things that you did.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: Let's start bragging about you guys.
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: We have Charlotte Coker.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: She said, I finally launched my website after several months of working on it little by little.
- 4:32[SPEAKER_01]: I'm very proud of myself for doing something so outside my comfort zone.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: My home studio feels like it's really rocking and rolling.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yay.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Charlotte.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: It is really rocking and rolling.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: You are doing a lot.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_01]: I know like it's really easy to go on my gosh I expect to be done by now, but like little by little.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_01]: I mean the thing is is you actually Nothing happens overnight like websites especially they take time so I'm super proud of you I think you're doing great work and I am so excited that you are kicking off your home studio before it is even ready
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: That is being it till you see it full and on and so way to go.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for sharing that with us.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_01]: You guys need to share your wins at beapod.com.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: So questions.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: My win.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 5:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think if you've been this as podcasts for a long time, you know, I've been on a hobby hunt.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think I have found my hobby and it's not going to be my nails done.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: I am so excited.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: We had guests come on to talk about terror and I was so obsessed with her and she sent me a deck.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not really sure if for episodes out yet or not.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll say more information on that later.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_01]: But ever since then, then I found this book that helps me study terror and I can do it with writing.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: But then I found another book that's a little bit different.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: The same, they all have the same things, but in a different way, which helps me to repeat what I'm learning.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_01]: And then I found an app, it's like the duo link, they call the duo lingo for terror.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm going to reach out and say if they want to do ads, because I'm kind of obsessed with it.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: Every single day, I...
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: I do this and it's not easy, right?
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's definitely something I feel like I'm gonna have a better grasp on the more I practice out loud.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's just kind of one of the ways I have to like read out loud and do it out loud.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: But at any rate, I'm super excited because I was a little like, should I call it a hobby?
- 6:11[SPEAKER_01]: I've only been playing it.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: But now we're like four months.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_01]: And I do it daily and I really love it.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_01]: And it is a great way for me as a person who's like, I want to turn, well, I want to have some more self-reflection time.
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: It helps me have some self-reflection.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: So I can't wait for you to hear the episode because you're in here someone who's never done to tear out like interview this person.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_01]: And now you'll know I'm like a hobbyist right now.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not saying I'm going to do readings for people, just maybe for myself, but I am just like feeling really excited that I think I have a hobby that I like want to stick with.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: And I have been trying to find a hobby for years, and I'm feeling joy around it, and that's my win.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: What's yours?
- 6:49[SPEAKER_01]: Stand it into the pot.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_01]: Here is your affirmation for the weekend.
