- 0:09We thank you, Lord, for another day to come and to worship you
- 0:12in spirit and truth. We cry out Maranatha, we cry
- 0:16out, Come, Lord, come. We fill our lamps today.
- 0:20We trim our Wicks today. We wait upon the bridegroom.
- 0:24We look up. We see our redemption is drawing
- 0:27near. We see your rewards are with
- 0:29you. God, help us to wait well in the
- 0:32middle. Help us to know that you're
- 0:34moving mightily all around us. God, give us fresh wind and
- 0:38fresh fire, God, fresh zeal for your house.
- 0:41God, I pray you'll strengthen your bride in this hour.
- 0:44God, I pray that will not become complacent, will not just gather
- 0:49to ourselves those who tickle our ears and tell us what we
- 0:53want to hear. God, we will not succumb to the
- 0:56prosperity God gospel. God, we will not succumb to all
- 1:01of the false teachers, all of the false prophets in the land
- 1:05who are telling us that everything is well and
- 1:07everything goes on according to how it always has gone.
- 1:11Lord that we know, 1000 years is like a day unto you, and a day
- 1:16is like 1000 years. So Lord, I pray you'll
- 1:19strengthen us in this hour. God, keep us from receiving the
- 1:22mark. God, I pray, Lord, for the
- 1:25church at large, for all those, Lord, who are all around the
- 1:31world crying out to you, those that are in the secret churches,
- 1:36the underground churches. God, for those that are in the
- 1:38persecuted church, God, we pray for them.
- 1:41Lord, we pray that you'll strengthen them in this hour.
- 1:44God, I pray you'll reveal yourself to us in mighty ways.
- 1:48Lord, continue to save those to the utmost.
- 1:51God, snatch them out of the fire.
- 1:53God, I pray that you'll snatch the fire brands out.
- 1:56Clothe them, God with dignity. Clothe them, God with
- 1:59righteousness. God, show up and show off and
- 2:02blow the pictures off the wall. Help us, Lord, to know that
- 2:05you're near. You're fighting our battles.
- 2:07You are for us and not against us.
- 2:09Lord, we love you. Father, we love everything about
- 2:12you. King Jesus, you are our
- 2:14everything. You are holy and worthy, Lord,
- 2:17to be praised. You are Lord of it all, God.
- 2:21You're the Lord of the universe. You're the Lord of the earth.
- 2:24You're the Lord of our lives. God, we call you King, we call
- 2:27you blessed, we call you our Savior.
- 2:31Jesus, you are our everything we love you.
- 2:34Holy Spirit wreck us. Holy Spirit ravage us.
- 2:37Holy Spirit, come and undo us. God, and let us be laid out for
- 2:42you. Father, splayed out for you.
- 2:44God, completely open. Lord, naked and bare before your
- 2:48holy eyes. God, nothing hidden, nothing
- 2:51held back. God, we confess.
- 2:54Lord, we repent. Lord, we ask that you'll search
- 2:59us, Search our hearts, search our minds, search our motives.
- 3:01God, search our bank accounts and our transactions.
- 3:04God, search us, Lord, and carve out anything.
- 3:08God, carve out all the dross, carve out any impurities, carve
- 3:12out the cancer. God, I pray that you'll help us,
- 3:15Lord, to live lives that are sold out and marked to you God,
- 3:19lives that are worthy of the calling that you placed upon us.
- 3:23God, help us to be holy, Father, as you are holy, for you are our
- 3:27everything, God. And we surrender all, not just
- 3:30some, not just most, God, we surrender all.
- 3:33We lay every single thing down. God, it's all for you and to you
- 3:38and by you, God. And we know that every good gift
- 3:42is from you. So Lord, continue to show up,
- 3:45God, continue to reveal more of yourself to us.
- 3:49We just want more of you, Father.
- 3:51We thank you, God for a life worth living.
- 3:53We thank you, God for your holy scriptures.
- 3:55We thank you God for church. We thank you God for worship.
- 3:59We thank you God for knowing us and being known by you.
- 4:03Lord, we just want you. Father, come and show up.
- 4:06God, come and be our right guard, our rear guard, our left
- 4:10guard, our front guard. Envelope us.
- 4:13God, I pray that you'll be all around us, this kind of glory
- 4:17shining around us. Father, take us up to where you
- 4:21are. God be with us here, Lord, on
- 4:24this earth, everywhere that we go.
- 4:25We love you in this, in your holy and precious and powerful
- 4:29name, King Jesus, Jesus of Nazareth, Jesus Christ that I
- 4:35pray, Amen. Let's start in verse one.
- 4:44Now when Jacob saw that there was corn in Egypt, Jacob said to
- 4:49his sons, why do you look one upon the other?
- 4:54So here, Jacob says, Go down to Egypt and get us some food.
- 4:59And the brothers all look at each other wild eyed, for they
- 5:03know that perhaps the very thing that they tried to cover up so
- 5:09long ago is coming to visit them too.
- 5:15And he said, behold, I have heard that there's corn in
- 5:18Egypt. Get you down there and buy for
- 5:23us from there, that we may live and not die.
- 5:27So you're saying, why do you sit here staring at each other,
- 5:31blank minded? Go down and get us something to
- 5:36eat so that we will not die? Three and Joseph's ten brothers
- 5:42went down to buy corn in Egypt for but Benjamin, Joseph's
- 5:48brother Jacob sent not with his brothers, for he said, lest
- 5:53peradventure mischief befall him.
- 5:57So he didn't trust these brothers, He didn't trust these
- 6:02little rascals here who had already cost him one son from
- 6:08Rachel and was not going to cost him his very youngest, last son
- 6:13from his beloved wife, Rachel, five.
- 6:17And the sons of Israel came to buy corn.
- 6:20Among those that came for the famine was in the land of
- 6:23Canaan. So here they go down from the
- 6:25land of Canaan into Egypt, and they're trying to buy some food.
- 6:306 And Joseph was the governor over the land, and he it was
- 6:35that sold to all the people of the land.
- 6:38And Joseph's brothers came and bowed down themselves before him
- 6:43with their faces to the earth. This was a fulfilment of the
- 6:46dream that God had given to Joseph so long ago when he was a
- 6:50little boy. And now it's all coming to
- 6:54fruition, friends. And what God says, you can bank
- 6:57on it. You can build your whole life
- 6:59upon it, friends. It is the chief cornerstone.
- 7:02It's rock solid. It's true and it's tried,
- 7:05friends. And it is the anvil that has
- 7:09worn out many hammers, friends. And you need to know that right
- 7:14here and right now, everything's making sense.
- 7:17It's all coming in alignment in Joseph's mind as he sees his
- 7:21brothers come in and bow themselves down low to the
- 7:25ground. And look at how Joseph doesn't
- 7:29just take his responsibilities and delegate them to others.
- 7:33Look at how he is the one who's in charge of it all.
- 7:36He's actually in there doing the work. 7 And Joseph saw his
- 7:42brothers, and he knew them, but made himself strange unto them.
- 7:46He spoke rough unto them. And he spoke unto them, and
- 7:50said, Where have you come from? And they said, from the land of
- 7:54Canaan to buy food. 8 And Joseph knew his brothers, but they did
- 7:58not know him. This is synonymous to Jesus
- 8:01Christ, that they did not know that it was the Messiah that had
- 8:07come into their midst. And one day they will. 9 And
- 8:13Joseph remembered the dreams which he dreamed of them, and he
- 8:16said to them, You're spies to see the nakedness of the land.
- 8:21You have come. So here he's not trying to play
- 8:24some kind of trick on them. He's developing character.
- 8:28He's getting them to the place of repentance.
- 8:30And God does the same with us. 10 And they said to him, No, my
- 8:37Lord, to by food are your servants.
- 8:40Come. 11 We are all one man's sons, and we are true men.
- 8:46Your servants are no spies. Here they said something that
- 8:50was not true, that they were true men.
- 8:53These were rascals, friends. They'd sold their brother and
- 8:57they had lied about it, and they had never, ever confessed the
- 9:01sin that they had committed. And hear God, not Joseph, but
- 9:06God is interested in them coming to the point of confession and
- 9:11repentance with what they had done. 12 And he said to them,
- 9:19no, but to see the nakedness of the land, your come. 13 And they
- 9:23said, your servants are 12 brothers, the sons of one man in
- 9:29the land of Canaan. And behold, the youngest is this
- 9:33day with our father, and one is not.
- 9:37So here they are revealing to him that their youngest brother
- 9:43is still alive, even though he's not with them.
- 9:47And this is going to pique Joseph's interest here.
- 9:52And they said that one is not, but the one that is not is
- 9:55actually the one that is standing before them. 14 And
- 10:00Joseph said to them, that is it that I spoke to you, saying, You
- 10:05are spies. 15 Hereby you shall be proved by the life of
- 10:11Pharaoh. You shall not go from here
- 10:15except your youngest brother come here.
- 10:18So he's saying you will be held captive until your younger
- 10:21brother comes here and here. Joseph is interested in getting
- 10:25the whole family together. 16 Send one of you and let him
- 10:30fetch your brother, and you shall be kept in prison, that
- 10:34your words may be proved. Whether there be any truth in
- 10:38you or else by the life of Pharaoh, surely you are spies.
- 10:42So here he's instilling the fear of God into these men. 17 And he
- 10:49put them all together into ward three days.
- 10:53So for three days they had to sit and think about all the
- 10:56things that they had done. 18 And Joseph said to them, for the
- 11:01third day, this do and live, for I fear God.
- 11:04So Joseph revealed to them that he feared the very God of
- 11:09Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 19 For if you be true men, let one
- 11:15of your brothers be bound in the House of your prison.
- 11:18Go. You carry corn for the famine of
- 11:22your houses. So here Joseph had a change of
- 11:24heart. He said that all of them would
- 11:26sit there in the prison, while one went back to get old
- 11:29Benjamin. Now he says, Let all of them go,
- 11:32except for one, to go fetch Benjamin. 20 But bring your
- 11:37youngest brother to me. So shall your words be verified,
- 11:40and you shall not die. And they did so. 21 And they
- 11:44said one to another, We are truly guilty concerning our
- 11:48brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul when he
- 11:52begged us, and we would not listen.
- 11:59Therefore is this distress come upon us.
- 12:02So Joseph can interpret. But they didn't know that.
- 12:06They did not know that he spoke Hebrew.
- 12:08And they're saying these things and they're revealing what
- 12:11happened, friends. And they're giving us a little
- 12:13bit more insight into the day that he was sold off into
- 12:17slavery. Here little Joseph, little boy,
- 12:22gone out to check on the work of his brothers, to supervise them
- 12:26and report back to their dad. And here he's down in the well,
- 12:30and he's begging for his life. 22 And Reuben answered and said,
- 12:36Did I not speak to you, saying, Do not sin against the child?
- 12:41You would not listen? Therefore behold also his blood
- 12:45is required. 23 And they knew not that Joseph understood them,
- 12:50for he spoke unto them by an interpreter. 24 And he turned
- 12:54himself about from them, and he wept, and he returned to them
- 12:57again, and he communed with them and took from them Simeon and
- 13:01bound him before their eyes. So we do not know while Simeon
- 13:05was chosen. Perhaps he volunteered, but they
- 13:07did not know that they, they, Joseph could understand them.
- 13:11And so he turned his face and he wept because it broke his heart.
- 13:15Friends, he found no pleasure in this whole scene other than he
- 13:21was finally back in touch with his long lost family. 25 And
- 13:30Joseph commanded to fill their sacks with corn, to restore
- 13:34every man's money into his sack, and to give them provision for
- 13:37the way. And thus did he unto them.
- 13:40So not only did he give them the food that they were looking for,
- 13:43but he reimbursed them the money. 26 And they laid their
- 13:48asses with the corn and departed from there. 27 As one of them
- 13:52opened his sack to give his ass provender, in the end he spied
- 13:57his money, for behold, it was in his sack's mouth.
- 14:00So not only now they could be charged with being spies, but
- 14:06they also could be charged with being thieves, because they did
- 14:10not pay for what the food that they had. 28 And he said unto
- 14:15his brothers, My money is restored, and lo, it is even in
- 14:18my sack. And their heart failed them.
- 14:21And they were afraid, saying one to the other, What is this that
- 14:25God has done to us? So they understood that God's
- 14:29mighty hand was on this whole scene, but they did not know how
- 14:33it would all play out. And they, they also did not know
- 14:36that all the money was restored, not just this one brother. 29
- 14:42And they came to Jacob their father into the land of Canaan,
- 14:45and they told him all that befell them, saying, 30 The man
- 14:49who was the Lord of the land spoke rough to us, and he took
- 14:53us for spies in the country. 31 And we said to him, We are true
- 14:58men, we are not spies. 32 We be 12 brothers, sons of our father.
- 15:031 is not the youngest is this day with our father in the land
- 15:07of Canaan? 33 And the man the Lord of the
- 15:10country, he said unto us, Hereby shall I know that you are true
- 15:15men. Leave one of your brothers here
- 15:18with me, take food for the famine of your households, and
- 15:22be gone. 34 And bring your youngest brother to me, and I
- 15:27shall know that you are not spies, but that you are true
- 15:30men, and I will deliver your brother back to you, and you
- 15:34shall traffic in the land. He's saying if you want more
- 15:37food, you're going to have to show me, Benjamin, and then I'll
- 15:41allow you to do business in the land. 35 And it came to pass, as
- 15:47they emptied their sacks, that behold, every man's bundle of
- 15:52money was in his sack. And when both they and their
- 15:57father saw the bundles of money, they were afraid.
- 16:02What does this all mean? We've got food and we've got all
- 16:05of our money back. But Simeon is not here. 36 And
- 16:10Jacob, their father said to them, Me have you bereaved of my
- 16:16children? Joseph is not.
- 16:19Simeon is not. He will take Benjamin away.
- 16:24All these things are against me. So here old Jacob is not through
- 16:30wrestling with God Almighty. There's still another wrestling
- 16:34match that's scheduled here. He's going to have to wrestle
- 16:39and figure out the idol that he has in his life.
- 16:41His youngest son, he's going to have to release.
- 16:46It's no different in our day and our our friends.
- 16:50Every good gift is from God, but you must hold it loosely.
- 16:53And that includes your beloved. That includes those who come to
- 16:58you and they come out and they say that they are
- 17:04countercultural and you accept them and you turn your back on a
- 17:09mighty God. It's no different today.
- 17:11You see it all the time, people making a decision for their
- 17:15family, even if it goes against the Bible friends.
- 17:19And it is deplorable and it is disgusting.
- 17:21And it is because we have made our families idols, and we must
- 17:25hold them loosely in light of a holy, honorable, amazing God who
- 17:32tells us to always choose Him over man.
- 17:41And he says, these things are against me.
- 17:43And this is the lie that Jacob is believing, that God is
- 17:48against him, and he's not friends.
- 17:49He's using all of this for great good.
- 17:52And we've got to trust God in the middle. 37 And Reuben spoke
- 17:58unto his father, saying, Slay my two sons.
- 18:02If I do not bring him to you, deliver him into my hand, and I
- 18:06will bring him to you again. We'll end on 38.
- 18:10And he said my son shall not go down with you, for his brother
- 18:13is dead, and he is left alone. If mischief befall him by the
- 18:17way in which you go, then shall you bring down my Gray hairs
- 18:27with sorrow to the grave. So he turns his back on old
- 18:31Simian and he chooses Benjamin. And the last time these guys
- 18:36were all together with a plan, one of his sons was lost in a
- 18:40bloody colorful coat, was brought back to him, and he's
- 18:44not willing to take that chance again.
- 18:47He'd rather leave Simeon there, and he'd rather starve to death.
- 18:52Let's see how it goes as the story unfolds.
- 18:55I hope you've been blessed by this amazing chapter in God's
- 18:58Word. I know I sure have.
- 19:00I'm praying for every single one of you.
- 19:03I love you. We'll see you back here
- 19:08tomorrow. God bless you.
