- 0:00Time now for back to the basics and healthcare with Balance Life Chiropractic, and
- 0:03we have doctor Harley joining us. How you doing, doctor Harley? Hey
- 0:05John, I'm doing fantastic and unfortunately had another round of like winter, but
- 0:10that makes things kind of slippery, and this time of year is probably a
- 0:14busy time of year for you because people will slip and fall and things will
- 0:17get kind of out of whack, won't they. Yeah, I'm definitely seeing
- 0:19a lot more winter related aches and pains. A lot of it was due
- 0:23to all the shoveling snow. You know, it's hard to shovel a couple
- 0:25and just let alone a foot of snow. And then, like I said,
- 0:28now that it's melting, it's starting to freeze at night. So people,
- 0:31you know, when they come home from work or when they're going to
- 0:34work, are slipping and sliding. Maybe hopefully they're not falling, but if
- 0:38they do, let's talk about some tips that they can do to either help
- 0:40prevent those falls or what they can do after the fact. So let's start
- 0:43with the prevent because if we could prevent a fall, that's always best.
- 0:46And how can you prevent a fall? A lot of people say, like
- 0:49walk like a penguin, so you know, not taking your normal step,
- 0:51but kind of shuffling a little bit, especially where it's really really slick out.
- 0:55They're used to walking on ice. Those penguins right right, you could
- 0:58put like bas because they're like traction things that you can put on the bottom
- 1:02of your shoe. So if you're doing a lot of walking, especially in
- 1:04an area that's really icy or snowpacked, having that extra tread will help prevent
- 1:08some of those falls, you know, to trying to avoid some of those
- 1:12dress shoes that have really smooth bottoms. I was actually just talking with a
- 1:15patient earlier that was wearing kind of more smooth bottomed dress shoes. Like those
- 1:19are going to be very slick. I'll be careful when you're walking around,
- 1:23and I suppose putting some like some salt down to make it so the ice
- 1:27breaks up. That probably wouldn't hurt either. Whenever, that's definitely the first
- 1:30thing if you know it's going to be icy, make sure that you're salting
- 1:33your sidewalks really well, because that salt helps to melt even when it's really
- 1:37really cold. And there's some gas stations they have bags of it for free.
- 1:40Right about the pumps, just oh that's not free, No, it's
- 1:42not. Don't take those, they sell them inside, pay for them and
- 1:46then yeah, right no, but it is a good idea and it's not
- 1:49an expensive thing to get, and that if it prevents you from fallowing,
- 1:53what a great thing to do. Definitely, Now what happens if somebody already
- 1:57slipped and they already fell and now they're going, oh, I'm sore here
- 2:00and I'm sore there, what kind of things can they do? Right?
- 2:04You? Definitely, you know, take the stock of yourself, like,
- 2:06is it serious enough where you need to go to like urgent care or something
- 2:09like that. You see a bone poking out, that's more. If you
- 2:13have a bone poking out, that's definitely more emergency. But if you have
- 2:15a very sore a pain that you might think you might have broke but don't
- 2:20know for sure, that's more definitely an urgent care call. Unless you absolutely
- 2:23can't walk, then maybe more r But and if at all, you know,
- 2:27if they're just kind of sore and achy from that, I chiropractically be
- 2:30a good way to come in and kind of get things snapped back into place,
- 2:32too, Definitely, because you know, the area that you fell on
- 2:36is going to be sore, achy, but that jolt is going to be
- 2:38causing issues throughout the rest of your body that can cost some of that ache
- 2:40and pain and things are stuck and then they're not moving. So then when
- 2:45you are trying to get active and do things, you're getting more painful or
- 2:47you're having injuries because things are having to work harder than other areas of the
- 2:53body. So I said, I've been seeing a lot more like low back
- 2:55type issues lately, between the snow moving and the slips and falls. As
- 3:00a chiropractor, we're going to help realign your spine, getting things moving better,
- 3:04helping to you know, improve that a campaign, but also help prevent
- 3:07it in the future. That's one of the biggest thing people have noticed with
- 3:10starting chiropractic care is recovery time. You know, after an injury or a
- 3:14weekend warrior project or shoveling lots of snow, they're not as achy or sore
- 3:17the next day, which definitely is great because you know, you always kind
- 3:22of dread a big thing. You're like, oh, I didn't wall the
- 3:23snow, I'm gonna hurt so bad tomorrow. But then It's always nice being
- 3:27surprised. You're like, oh, I feel good is bad? Right?
- 3:29I'm not a sore no, I can relate to that. So I'm a
- 3:30big fan of Balance Life Chiropractic. For other folks who maybe haven't had a
