- 0:01Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to jasondew Land dot com. My name's
- 0:10Speaker 1: Jason new Land. Please and listen when you can safely
- 0:20Speaker 1: close your eyes. This is Whisper Saturday Saturday. For some
- 0:34Speaker 1: reason I've done was it Wednesday, Thursday, Friday Saturday for whisper?
- 0:46Speaker 1: Let me boy? The sleeps in a row first thing
- 0:53Speaker 1: in the morning when I wake up, and I don't
- 0:58Speaker 1: know why at doorn no way. Hopefully the microphone is
- 1:12Speaker 1: picking up my not so loud voice. Eh, I hope. Eh.
- 1:31Speaker 1: It's a bit of an early start, but I did
- 1:35Speaker 1: go to bed particularly early last night. So I went
- 1:42Speaker 1: to bed at about seven o'clock in the evening. It's about
- 1:51Speaker 1: two thirty hour in the morning, so technically i've had
- 1:58Speaker 1: seven hours was it seven eight nineteen eleven to one
- 2:03Speaker 1: to seven and a half hours sleep? I visited Uncle
- 2:14Speaker 1: Sausages yesterday and I wasn't gonna It's not that I
- 2:28Speaker 1: didn't want to well, I didn't know. It's a weird one.
- 2:32Speaker 1: I don't want to visit him. Of course I do
- 2:37Speaker 1: want to visit him, but I don't know at the
- 2:40Speaker 1: same time, just because it's it's it's very difficult. But
- 2:52Speaker 1: his other visitors is only two of us. She contacted
- 2:58Speaker 1: me yesterday and said that she wasn't able to go
- 3:05Speaker 1: due to grand kids. There's some changes in a in
- 3:10Speaker 1: a day routine. So I said, don't worry, I'll go
- 3:15Speaker 1: up and see him. So I did went up yesterday,
- 3:25Speaker 1: got there about half three in the afternoon. I got
- 3:32Speaker 1: a taxi there. It was raining, proper raining, like really raining.
- 3:49Speaker 1: You know what. I don't think I put my body home. No,
- 4:00Speaker 1: oh no. So I took my brodey with me. I
- 4:09Speaker 1: tried to open it from the front door of the
- 4:12Speaker 1: building where I live to the taxi. Now I got
- 4:20Speaker 1: wetter trying to open the brody and in trying to
- 4:25Speaker 1: close it as I tried. You know, as I opened
- 4:29Speaker 1: the taxi door, I'd have got this way if I
- 4:36Speaker 1: just walked straight over, because it was four footsteps. Probably.
- 4:46Speaker 1: I mean, it's not something that I'm gonna agree great forever.
- 4:50Speaker 1: It wasn't that. It wasn't quite that deep baby, But
- 4:58Speaker 1: thinking about it, everybody would have been easy to just
- 5:02Speaker 1: still take the probably in case I needed to stand
- 5:08Speaker 1: outside and wait for a taxi on the way back. However,
- 5:25Speaker 1: it's quite weird because again and I hear a voice
- 5:29Speaker 1: in the well, it's it's the driver and he says, hi,
- 5:37Speaker 1: Hi Jason. So no, no, I've not looked at him
- 5:42Speaker 1: yet because I'm I'm I'm backing into the into the taxi.
- 5:48Speaker 1: I'm just thinking it's nice and he's being pleasant considering
- 5:53Speaker 1: what's heading towards him, my big fat bomb. And I
- 6:01Speaker 1: settled in and he said, just checking. Your going to
- 6:08Speaker 1: the to see uncle sausages in a nursing home. I
- 6:12Speaker 1: said yeah, and I turn around and it's this was
- 6:16Speaker 1: his name. He was my regular taxi driver when I
- 6:22Speaker 1: was first started going up to the hospital. When I
- 6:28Speaker 1: was up there every single day, getting taxis there and
- 6:32Speaker 1: back cost me about five hundred pound and not not
- 6:42Speaker 1: a day, cause that would be expensive. But he was
- 6:47Speaker 1: one of the regular drivers, so I kind of got
- 6:49Speaker 1: to know him a bit. And then a few weeks
- 6:55Speaker 1: ago I started mainly traveling by by us, so I
- 7:06Speaker 1: didn't see any more drivers, And yesterday was the first
- 7:12Speaker 1: time that I traveled by taxi for I don't remember
- 7:28Speaker 1: how long it's been. It's not a long time, but
- 7:34Speaker 1: it might be a couple of weeks because I wasn't
- 7:38Speaker 1: able to go out for a week due to COVID
- 7:41Speaker 1: and then I visited uncle sausages on Thursday. So I
- 7:50Speaker 1: swim in hospital the previous Wednesday, and then I was
- 7:56Speaker 1: ill on the Wednesday and Thursday. Did the COVID on
- 8:00Speaker 1: a Friday, and then I was clear. Didn't have a
- 8:06Speaker 1: COVID test this Thursday just gone, was clear, and I
- 8:11Speaker 1: went out to visit uncle's sstages. Then when I became yesterday,
- 8:17Speaker 1: that's it. Yeah, So I'm sitting there. I don't really
- 8:29Speaker 1: know what to do when I'm there. It didn't seem
- 8:38Speaker 1: the right time to show off my new juggling and skills.
- 8:45Speaker 1: You know, it's prety. I don't know. I was talking
- 8:49Speaker 1: to him, updating him on the locals. There's not a
- 8:57Speaker 1: lot going on. It's just the same same people making
- 9:01Speaker 1: the same noise, really and keep hearing the same sentence,
- 9:15Speaker 1: you know, not from him, but the hearing the hearings
- 9:23Speaker 1: the last thing to go. I'm like, okay, But I
- 9:28Speaker 1: wonder if he could communicate, what would he say to me?
- 9:41Speaker 1: And I wonder, if you know, I've had a few
- 9:44Speaker 1: little scenarios. One would possibly bear him saying, will you
- 9:51Speaker 1: please shut up leave me alone? I don't know, another
- 10:02Speaker 1: please stop sitting on my leg, Please stop farting. There
- 10:12Speaker 1: could be lots of things that he might be trying
- 10:14Speaker 1: to say to me, where's my bloody drinks? That's the
- 10:24Speaker 1: last thing he said to me Wednesday evening, cause I
- 10:29Speaker 1: went and visited him. He was asleep in hospital, so
- 10:33Speaker 1: I didn't he look like a little baby just needed
- 10:37Speaker 1: a teddy bear. He looks so comfortable, cooler, cold, up asleep,
- 10:45Speaker 1: And I didn't disturb him because personally, a couple of
- 10:51Speaker 1: days earlier he told me that all he wanted was
- 10:54Speaker 1: to go to sleep. See he said he hadn't slept
- 10:57Speaker 1: properly for the last five weeks, So I didn't want
- 11:05Speaker 1: to disturb him. He looks so peaceful just having a
- 11:09Speaker 1: good sleep. Plus I didn't feel very well. I just
- 11:19Speaker 1: kind of came on on the way to the laspital
- 11:22Speaker 1: and I was like wow, So I just I took
- 11:25Speaker 1: that opportunity to leave. I left a package that his
- 11:33Speaker 1: friend had delivered I had had sent to me. His
- 11:39Speaker 1: friend lives in another country, so I delivered that stuck
- 11:43Speaker 1: on the table. It's just a newspaper in the packet
- 11:47Speaker 1: is uh sweets? So of course Sausages phoned me up
- 11:55Speaker 1: in the evening where were you. He didn't shout, but
- 12:01Speaker 1: he was like, what do you mean, why didn't you
- 12:04Speaker 1: come today? I said, I did come today, but you
- 12:08Speaker 1: was asleep. Why didn't you wake me up? But I
- 12:14Speaker 1: just for you wanted to sleep? He said, where's my drinks?
- 12:23Speaker 1: I think that's what I've been to him. I come
- 12:25Speaker 1: and visit and then I go and get stuff. I'm
- 12:29Speaker 1: like a like a little uber eats I suppose for him,
- 12:35Speaker 1: and that's kind of been my role for the last
- 12:40Speaker 1: month and a half. So I get there, have a chat,
- 12:46Speaker 1: have a catch up, you know, that's how it's been
- 12:49Speaker 1: in hospital. And then he starts talking about, well, what
- 12:55Speaker 1: should we get? Then he went for a little where
- 13:00Speaker 1: he liked to eat in their sausage roll pasty things
- 13:04Speaker 1: in Costa and in the early days, which sounds weird
- 13:14Speaker 1: considering it's been six weeks, but in the early days
- 13:19Speaker 1: we used to walk down there together, go and sit
- 13:23Speaker 1: outside have a chat. I still remember that first Saturday.
- 13:32Speaker 1: So you went in there on a Friday, ten thirty.
- 13:37Speaker 1: We left here and I think I came back about
- 13:42Speaker 1: three thirty in the morning. So there the next day
- 13:47Speaker 1: on a Saturday, and in the afternoon and at this
- 13:58Speaker 1: point he'd already been they diagnosed him with with what
- 14:03Speaker 1: was wrong with him. He didn't give him a prognosis
- 14:06Speaker 1: at that point, but they told him what it was
- 14:10Speaker 1: because they'd done the scan and everything. And we were downstairs.
- 14:22Speaker 1: I'm not sure if we had drinks. We were just
- 14:26Speaker 1: sitting in the sun, yeah, because there was that was
- 14:34Speaker 1: a sad day and were on one of these desk
- 14:39Speaker 1: table things and Uncle Sausages started talking about making arrangements
- 14:54Speaker 1: and things like that. I was like, oh, shut up, mate,
- 14:57Speaker 1: what are you talking about because he started being practical
- 15:06Speaker 1: and then he was saying, oh, we can fight this,
- 15:08Speaker 1: and I said yeah, And so it was a little
- 15:12Speaker 1: bit emotional. The next day where it was outside again.
- 15:18Speaker 1: This time we were near this bit of water which
- 15:22Speaker 1: is in hospital grounds, and a duck started pecking me Winnie. Now,
- 15:32Speaker 1: I thought it was finny to start with, just because
- 15:36Speaker 1: you know, generally, if I'm sitting somewhere and I feel something,
- 15:42Speaker 1: you know, something starts pulling on my glothing or anything,
- 15:46Speaker 1: it's it was always finny, even though I didn't have
- 15:53Speaker 1: Finni with me. It's just a natural reaction, like what
- 15:57Speaker 1: you're doing. What you're doing, mate, I looked down and
- 15:59Speaker 1: it's this duck staring at me, packing away at me Becker.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Oh dear, I don't know why that made me laugh.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Beckon at me Becker Becker. Anyway, it seems like a
- 16:29Speaker 1: really long time because he used to come out. He
- 16:39Speaker 1: went from coming outside with me to still walking down
- 16:43Speaker 1: with me but still sitting in costa, to just sending
- 16:54Speaker 1: me down to get stuff. I remember there's one boy
- 17:09Speaker 1: one day, it was a couple of weeks in and
- 17:16Speaker 1: he said he wanted to come home. I said, why
- 17:24Speaker 1: in that case, let's not take the lift anymore. Let's
- 17:29Speaker 1: go down the stairs. Cause he was on the second floor.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Now he was on the first floor. I said, let's
- 17:36Speaker 1: go down the stairs. He said, if you're gonna be
- 17:39Speaker 1: traveling home, if you're gonna go home, you can have
- 17:42Speaker 1: to go up and down them stairs. And he said, okay.
- 17:49Speaker 1: It was fine. He was a little bit unsteady on
- 17:56Speaker 1: his feet anyway. But I think a lot to do
- 18:02Speaker 1: that can be, you know, when you're wearing your pajamas
- 18:06Speaker 1: or wearing it like a hospital gown, being in public,
- 18:13Speaker 1: because even though you're in hospital, it feels like it
- 18:19Speaker 1: feels like being in a public street really. In fact,
- 18:24Speaker 1: if anything, it's a lot busier than a normal public
- 18:27Speaker 1: street unless you're in Oxford Street or somewhere really busy.
- 18:33Speaker 1: There are thousands of people just continuously trafficking. It's not
- 18:40Speaker 1: the right word as but just traveling through thousands of people.
- 18:51Speaker 1: I mean to me, that makes me more invisible and anonymous.
- 19:00Speaker 1: I just would generally not think that anyone had noticed
- 19:05Speaker 1: me anyway. Really, these days, I think my noticeability levels
- 19:13Speaker 1: have dropped somewhat. I think it's just an age thing.
- 19:25Speaker 1: It's natural, kind of blending with the with the wall paint.
- 19:47Speaker 1: I think after seeing em yesterday, it's two days in
- 19:55Speaker 1: a row, it's been a shock to me, to be honest,
- 19:58Speaker 1: it has because it wasn't like that when I last
- 20:01Speaker 1: saw him a week ago, and it's yeah, it's night
- 20:14Speaker 1: and day. It's like completely different. And what's weird about
- 20:23Speaker 1: it is he didn't believe he was ill because he
- 20:29Speaker 1: felt fine, apart from an upset stomach, which he blamed
- 20:36Speaker 1: on having caught a bug or something for an hospital,
- 20:45Speaker 1: which is highly likely. You know, that is a likely situation,
- 20:51Speaker 1: but it wasn't true. You know, that was a symptom
- 20:54Speaker 1: of his condition. And I started to think maybe they've
- 21:04Speaker 1: got it wrong, because okay, he was still yellow. But
- 21:16Speaker 1: you know, I don't know. It just seemed I don't
- 21:26Speaker 1: know what I'm trying to say. Maybe I was hoping
- 21:29Speaker 1: they'd got it wrong. That you know, A really good
- 21:36Speaker 1: scenario would be that they realized it made a mistake
- 21:42Speaker 1: and he all he needed was a simple ob which
- 21:47Speaker 1: cleared his system out so he could be going a
- 21:50Speaker 1: normal color again, because he used to be it was
- 21:55Speaker 1: always very pale. But like me, although I'm not pale,
- 22:01Speaker 1: I'm pink. The rest of my body's pale apart from
- 22:07Speaker 1: my arms. My forearms are brown because I'm out in
- 22:10Speaker 1: the sun a lot with Vinie and stuff. But my
- 22:17Speaker 1: face is pink and my feet. Basically, my whole body
- 22:25Speaker 1: is the same color as my feet, just white like pale,
- 22:33Speaker 1: but with a pink face. It's very strange. Trust me,
- 22:37Speaker 1: if you see me naked, you don't want to see
- 22:39Speaker 1: me naked. I think it's agreed upon. That's probably not
- 22:47Speaker 1: the first thing you notice. Okay, let's move on from there.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Please please, please, Yeah, I prefer not to see him.
- 23:15Speaker 1: I was, I was there yesterday. I was just sitting
- 23:20Speaker 1: down and suddenly income in the room bursts this man
- 23:31Speaker 1: like what made me jump? And there was the husband
- 23:36Speaker 1: of where it was his uncle sausages friend like you
- 23:41Speaker 1: know they're married. Like the ones that said they weren't coming.
- 23:49Speaker 1: There was a change and they decided to come up
- 23:54Speaker 1: and pop up and see uncle sausages and then I
- 24:00Speaker 1: don't pick up their grandkids. I was like, well, blimey
- 24:06Speaker 1: made me jump. I think I was kind of deep
- 24:10Speaker 1: in thought. Hard to believe, but I do sometimes think
- 24:18Speaker 1: it's a rare, rare occurrence. I gave it go once
- 24:23Speaker 1: and I thought maybe I'll try this again one day,
- 24:29Speaker 1: and I did yesterday. It was that day. Yeah, man, Yeah,
- 24:44Speaker 1: it made me jump. But the good thing about it
- 24:48Speaker 1: is I got a lift home, which was andy because
- 24:56Speaker 1: it cost me sixteen pounds to get there in a
- 25:00Speaker 1: taxi and I was going to get a taxi backs. Meanwhile,
- 25:08Speaker 1: two reasons, mainly because it was quite late in the
- 25:10Speaker 1: day and it's going to take me quite a while
- 25:16Speaker 1: to walk it. Plus it was raining, so it wasn't
- 25:20Speaker 1: a good idea to be walking out in the rain.
- 25:24Speaker 1: I just get where, what's the point so it would
- 25:31Speaker 1: be unnecessary dampness. We came back and what's her name's
- 25:43Speaker 1: husband wanted to have a look at the flat because
- 25:47Speaker 1: he was going to clear it out in himself, because
- 25:50Speaker 1: the council have asked us to clear it ours it. No,
- 25:54Speaker 1: I said, it's not. It's no one's job to clean
- 25:58Speaker 1: it out other than the council. Uncle Sausages has no family,
- 26:05Speaker 1: He hasn't got anyone that has to do anything like that.
- 26:09Speaker 1: And besides, I've backed up so much of his stuff
- 26:14Speaker 1: now at the request of his friend, just to try
- 26:21Speaker 1: and help out the counsel and help out, you know, generally.
- 26:27Speaker 1: And it's still so much to do. So much to
- 26:41Speaker 1: move is going to take them a good couple of
- 26:44Speaker 1: days probably to empty that place. That's with all the
- 26:50Speaker 1: work I've done. I mean, the front garden's full of bags,
- 26:58Speaker 1: and now the kitchen's full of backs the stuff that
- 27:01Speaker 1: I've felt and always full of bags. Most of the
- 27:10Speaker 1: living room is now pretty much clear other than the furniture,
- 27:20Speaker 1: and a fair bad of the bedroom as well. It's
- 27:27Speaker 1: one of those weird things because I went in there
- 27:32Speaker 1: the other day. A couple of times I've been asked
- 27:34Speaker 1: to go in try and find something. Once it was
- 27:42Speaker 1: was it passport, another time it was his Bible another
- 27:51Speaker 1: time in his radio. Another time some money that he
- 27:55Speaker 1: had bull a side. He said it was seventy pounds
- 28:00Speaker 1: forty pounds in some diary that I know exactly what
- 28:06Speaker 1: that money was for. He used to give that to
- 28:12Speaker 1: his other friend for getting shopping for him. See it
- 28:17Speaker 1: drawed out money out of the cash point at the
- 28:22Speaker 1: petrol station. I didn't. He told me this, and he
- 28:27Speaker 1: was very organized, so I remember I had to look
- 28:36Speaker 1: for that where else? Oh yeah, I had to look
- 28:40Speaker 1: for some letters, some ID to send his friend because
- 28:46Speaker 1: she needed that. I think it was proof of his
- 28:50Speaker 1: pension because she has to deal with the finances and
- 28:57Speaker 1: canceling stuff. And you know, I mean, sure he she's
- 29:02Speaker 1: dealt with the council and given a month's notice for
- 29:10Speaker 1: the end of the tenancy. But that's because I console
- 29:15Speaker 1: I condacted the council. My tummy's gurgling. I contacted the
- 29:22Speaker 1: council just to let them know the situation and just
- 29:33Speaker 1: tell him that we need some help with some aspects
- 29:38Speaker 1: of the flag, need to get a few mackayors in
- 29:42Speaker 1: and stuff like that. It's weird because they they seem
- 29:52Speaker 1: more focused on just getting the flat back, which I
- 29:59Speaker 1: was surprised. I know, I mean technically that is their
- 30:03Speaker 1: job for me. You know, we're dealing with a human
- 30:12Speaker 1: being and they're dealing with a property. Oh well, I imagine.
- 30:34Speaker 1: I mean they say a month. I remember my friend downstairs,
- 30:37Speaker 1: they's the council stuck a sign on the door saying,
- 30:43Speaker 1: if you you need to whoever's god key to this flat,
- 30:56Speaker 1: you need to finish what you're doing, take what you
- 31:00Speaker 1: need to take before a certain day, because that's then
- 31:04Speaker 1: the council we're going to take the flat back. But
- 31:11Speaker 1: it gave a month's notice. Two weeks later they were
- 31:17Speaker 1: breaking in and changing the locks, and that was it.
- 31:24Speaker 1: They didn't wait a month. They did the same with downstairs.
- 31:29Speaker 1: There's another flat, and they put a month's notice. A
- 31:34Speaker 1: couple of weeks they came in and changed the locks.
- 31:43Speaker 1: So I'm not sure. If they just struggled to count
- 31:47Speaker 1: up to four, I don't know. And so I foresee,
- 31:54Speaker 1: having experienced that twice, that it might happen again with
- 32:03Speaker 1: funcal sausages. So I mentioned they can come up next week,
- 32:14Speaker 1: put a sign on the door, notice of but I
- 32:20Speaker 1: don't know, not if fiction, but notice of being the
- 32:24Speaker 1: flat being cleared with a month's notice, and then after
- 32:33Speaker 1: two weeks I probably turned up. Also, downstairs, where my
- 32:43Speaker 1: friend used to live, the new tenant has been there
- 32:47Speaker 1: every year. She's also moved out, which is weird. Mind Joy,
- 33:07Speaker 1: It's not the first time that there's been two flats
- 33:10Speaker 1: empty since I've lived there, because when Luke left my
- 33:18Speaker 1: friend downstairs, the other flat was also empty. So yeah.
- 33:31Speaker 1: In fact, that week that Luke left, the flat downstairs
- 33:39Speaker 1: was being refurbished by the council. They were preparing it
- 33:44Speaker 1: for the next tenant. But outside of that, I don't notice.
- 33:58Speaker 1: We've got new two new tenants moving into this building.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Fingers crossed that they'll be fairly quiet. I hope, I just,
- 34:15Speaker 1: I just I'm not looking for more door slamming. I mean,
- 34:22Speaker 1: one of the door slammers has moved out from downstairs,
- 34:27Speaker 1: the other one downstairs another one doesn't seem to be
- 34:32Speaker 1: able to control ourself, just has to let the door
- 34:35Speaker 1: slam multiple times. I don't know why. The other neighbor
- 34:43Speaker 1: blow Me doesn't let the door slam, and Uncle Sausages
- 34:48Speaker 1: never let his door slam, and the other person on
- 34:52Speaker 1: my floor doesn't let their door slam, and I don't either.
- 34:57Speaker 1: So at the moment we've just got one door slammer,
- 35:01Speaker 1: but we might have three in a couple of months.
- 35:05Speaker 1: I don't know. Please please know. The reason the doors
- 35:18Speaker 1: slam is because they're so heavy. They just they're supposed
- 35:22Speaker 1: to do that, you know, in the sense of being
- 35:24Speaker 1: fire doors. But they shake the building when they slam.
- 35:39Speaker 1: It's not just it's not just that they slam, but
- 35:42Speaker 1: they are. The two things are apart from the inconsideration.
- 35:48Speaker 1: Two things that affect me is Finny starts barking if
