- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Oh, welcome back to the three O
- 0:17take presented by C Kick. This is episode 476.
- 0:20I'll be your host Kyle Cordon. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:22Reyes. Nate.
- 0:30Who's Kyle Corwin? I don't know who that is.
- 0:37Last I heard of that guy, he was hanging out in Virginia or
- 0:42something, you know, like. 60° down or back back home down here
- 0:47in Miami. Yeah, it's a.
- 0:49It's a cool 85. Welcome to Miami.
- 0:54Miss Worldwide Three O 5 Pee Boo.
- 0:57That is, did you see him? Is he there?
- 1:01I didn't, but I'm about to see T pain tomorrow.
- 1:05No biggie. Wait, really?
- 1:08Any T pain fans out there? Yeah, he's, he'll be the
- 1:10performer at the conference I'm at for my work, so that'll be
- 1:14sick. Shout out the shout out the the
- 1:17conference. What is it?
- 1:18What is this for? What is the conference?
- 1:20For it's for Adobe. Just a bunch of creators down
- 1:23here, A bunch of Adobe casters. Bring it in T pain.
- 1:28Just bringing in T pain, no expenses spared.
- 1:32T pain just shows up and just a bunch of white dudes with
- 1:36glasses. Bunch of no, it's a lot of
- 1:40nerds, if I'm being honest with you.
- 1:42You got podcast down here, you got videographers, you got
- 1:46illustrators, graphic designers, all the like.
- 1:50Goggles. I'm honestly.
- 1:51Probably the minority, honestly. I'm like one of the few somewhat
- 1:55normal folks or normal people look down here.
- 1:59Yeah, there's a. Yeah.
- 2:02Is Elon a robot down there? No.
- 2:05No, that's. Not but I've been able to catch
- 2:08some games. Don't worry there.
- 2:11Good. And we're going to, we're going
- 2:12to talk about it. We're going to talk about it.
- 2:15You want to talk? You want to talk?
- 2:16Mets, Dodgers, little, little bit of a check in.
- 2:18I know there's probably people wondering like, yo, why are you
- 2:20guys doing an LCS update so soon?
- 2:22They've only been there's, I mean, heck, there's only been
- 2:24one ALCS game. There's been two LLCS games.
- 2:28Well, would you just rather us not check in and just wait till
- 2:35next week? You just want to wait.
- 2:37You want us to wait till the end?
- 2:38No, we're not going to do that. We're going to.
- 2:39We're going to talk. About like recaps?
- 2:43How do you like recaps? We didn't kind of a recap.
- 2:45We didn't even recap the end of the NLDS.
- 2:51We didn't. We had to make a prediction.
- 2:54Two different predictions. Three different predictions,
- 2:59Four different predictions. I think it was, I think it was
- 3:03four. I think there was like, I think
- 3:05there was four different scenarios that that had to play
- 3:08out or could have played out and, and we had to make picks on
- 3:11all of them. But yeah, and, and back to my
- 3:15point though, there's only been three games, but I'd say a fair
- 3:18amount has happened. A lot has happened a.
- 3:20Lot has happened. A lot of things we got to talk
- 3:22about. So let's get into it.
- 3:24Let's talk, Let's talk Mets and Dodgers.
- 3:27The the aforementioned series with two games wrapped up game
- 3:34one. Whoa.
- 3:36I'm just going to go ahead and say it.
- 3:38But it's a little but right in the mouth.
- 3:42Can I just, can I just, can I just go ahead and say it?
- 3:49Unless you're a rather a Dodgers fan.
- 3:51Unless you were a Dodgers fan, not not that enjoyable of a
- 3:58baseball game, if I'm being honest with you.
- 4:00And I got some kickback on social, boy that I get some
- 4:04kickback on social for that take.
- 4:06And I'm going one, I'm not surprised you.
- 4:09I mean, people just like to argue about anything and
- 4:12everything, but I'm going, yeah, well, people get the the problem
- 4:18was here. Here's the issue.
- 4:19They kept pointing to the fact that like this was such a
- 4:22historic outing for the the the Dodgers that it was their their
- 4:26third straight shut out the the scoreless inning streak that
- 4:31they matched. Lot of Dodger storylines, one
- 4:36would say. One could say that's pretty
- 4:39obvious in a nine nothing victory, but.
- 4:43Right. But like you, you remove that
- 4:45element of it like if you're not, if you're just like an
- 4:49average fan. Yeah, you want something
- 4:52entertaining? You want something close.
- 4:53Yeah, and maybe you're not too. Maybe you're not all that
- 4:57closely tied to said storyline or said postseason feat or or
- 5:02record or or whatever it may be. You don't really care.
- 5:04You just want some good baseball, and it wasn't really
- 5:06that good. A baseball game is 9, nothing.
- 5:08Postseason game. Yeah.
- 5:13With that said, though, that and and just hear me, that's not me
- 5:16complaining about the game itself.
- 5:19I mean, it's a postseason game. I'm going to watch postseason
- 5:21baseball regardless. I'm just saying we've seen more
- 5:23entertaining games, That's all I'm going to say.
- 5:26The game itself though, I mean, like you said, a little bop from
- 5:30the Dodgers, that was. Right in the mouth.
- 5:32Right away that was big when OK, so when this game kind of
- 5:37wrapped up and not that I'm skipping ahead to the end
- 5:39already, but with after game one was in the books, where was your
- 5:46head at with the with the whole Met's magic?
- 5:51Honestly, I I felt like it was dampered a little bit.
- 5:59Is that a word? Dampened.
- 6:03No, you're you're tampered. And dampened.
- 6:05Tampered and dampened. Tamp.
- 6:07Tampened. Yeah, it was tampened.
- 6:10I like dampered. Dampered.
- 6:15I feel like that's a word. Damper.
- 6:19No, that's a tough one. Yeah, I I'll be honest.
- 6:24Just like I'm not. Going to play the, I'm not going
- 6:26to say I'm not going to like play the hindsight game because
- 6:29that's not fair. You asked my reaction after game
- 6:33one, before Game 2 happened. My reaction?
- 6:36Was like something. Yeah, see, it was, it was
- 6:39dampered. You asked what the magic was
- 6:42like. That's a weird that that when
- 6:43you, when people ask for it in a sentence, that's just like a
- 6:45weird thing. Like I kind of put a damper on
- 6:48it. Not like it was dampered.
- 6:49It just sounded weird. It didn't, it didn't, didn't
- 6:52scratch the brain, right? You know, that's all.
- 6:54Anyway, continue. OK.
- 7:00Carry on, carry on. I.
- 7:03Felt like he's getting to me down here.
- 7:04Felt like it was just, you know, maybe a little maybe it's run
- 7:09its course. You know, I, I honestly think
- 7:16that there was a little bit of like a like a spillover from the
- 7:23Dodgers Padres series. It not that the Phillies didn't
- 7:30put up a fight, but that like they didn't really put up a
- 7:32fight, you know what I mean? Like they didn't really, you
- 7:34didn't get the best version of the Phillies and the Mets.
- 7:38I felt like getting through that coming into like, yeah, they're
- 7:44hot, but like coming into a Dodger team that's just
- 7:48literally fending off the San Diego Wolves, you know what I
- 7:52mean? Like the Padres were like, that
- 7:54was a great series. That was like a you came out of
- 7:57that battle beat up, bloody, bruised, but you like proven,
- 8:02you know what I mean? It's like with that, like those
- 8:05Spartans in 300 where you're like, go out and live with the
- 8:09wolves when you're 5 years old, then come back and you're a man.
- 8:12That's what the Dodgers came back as.
- 8:14They came back as a man. And the Mets were like, whoa,
- 8:19you know, Kodaissinga didn't look great, did not look great,
- 8:24looked pretty rough. And he starts 3 or 4.
- 8:28Walks. He's still figuring it out.
- 8:30Like I, I think that's so hard for for Mets fans to wrap their
- 8:34mind around and like for baseball fans to remember that
- 8:37like this guy would probably still be doing like rehab starts
- 8:42if this was a normally scheduled thing.
- 8:45So he's having to like figure things out in the post season
- 8:49against a team that just came out of a super emotional
- 8:55victory, you know, So I'm, I'm not surprised with the outcome
- 8:59of game one. I was just, I think where was
- 9:04the, I want to say it was like the 3rd or 4th inning.
- 9:12I think the Dodgers were up six and then the Mets had a couple
- 9:17knocks. It was something weird, I don't
- 9:23remember exactly who. I do remember Winker.
- 9:25It was a knock to Kiki playing center Winker round second super
- 9:30hard. Like kind of acts like he's
- 9:33going to 3rd. Then he gets stuck in the middle
- 9:35and does a little hesitation. Kiki throws behind him at 2nd
- 9:39and just get some a little like out of whack.
- 9:42Man's land and it. Felt like that was the that was
- 9:46like the typical Mets moments in games that they're behind, like
- 9:49they start to get a little groove back, they string a
- 9:51little something back, they get a punch in.
- 9:55A lot of these series have been like all of a sudden it's a tie
- 9:58game. But it felt like there could
- 10:00have been something there and then Kike kike in in in the
- 10:05postseason. I think Kiki and Giancarlo
- 10:08Stanton are like. It's a mystery.
- 10:12It's like the. 820 October, just like October, they're Hall of
- 10:16Farmers. But yeah, that was that moment
- 10:20where I was like, interesting. You know, they were down.
- 10:23They were down a bunch. Why is Winker being like overly
- 10:26aggressive and then hesitates? So that was an interesting
- 10:31moment, I thought. Against mind you, apparently the
- 10:36greatest pitching staff ever assembled as of late like this
- 10:39was this was the entire thing coming into the post season or
- 10:44really even before that. I mean, I won't go as far as say
- 10:48as like second-half. I mean, I think I think it
- 10:51really got time to hit the panic button with the state of their
- 10:54their staff, maybe like the last month of the season.
- 10:58But this was the talking point. It's like we know what this
- 11:03offense is capable of doing. And even with like a, a, a
- 11:06banged up Freddie Freeman who's been just like going through.
- 11:09It he's been tossing it. We knew that the offense was
- 11:13going to be fine, but the the pitch, it was like you just
- 11:16don't have any pitching and that and people keep like why?
- 11:18What's up with all the the the Dodger hate?
- 11:21Like what's up with the anti Dodger sentiment with with these
- 11:25pics and with these posts on social?
- 11:28It it. Came down to pitching.
- 11:32This is why This is why I didn't pick the Dodgers over the
- 11:35Padres. It's why I didn't pick the
- 11:36Dodgers over the Mets. But apparently that doesn't
- 11:39matter. Apparently they're just going to
- 11:42string together one of the best like, well, I mean, prior to
- 11:46game two, I mean one of the best three-game stretches you you
- 11:49possibly could. Tie the record.
- 11:53I mean, that's what that's what I'm saying.
- 11:54And and anybody who said they saw this coming, you're lying
- 12:00through your teeth. Nobody saw this coming.
- 12:02That's the frustrating part. But well, I say frustrating
- 12:06because it's like I have to, I have to like I have to like
- 12:10defend the, my reasoning when this is what everybody was
- 12:14saying. Like everybody was like the the
- 12:17Dodgers need help on that side of the ball, but they're like,
- 12:20no, we're good. Matter of fact, we're going to
- 12:24go set some records while Reddit and and I don't know, I mean,
- 12:29obviously it didn't necessarily translate to game two of the
- 12:32series. Talk a little bop bop from the
- 12:35from the Mets right there in game two, courtesy of Mark
- 12:39Vientos. Who, I don't know.
- 12:42Rough game one, rough game one, and answered.
- 12:46I think he had three punches in game one so came back with a
- 12:51vengeance. I don't know if if you've seen
- 12:55some of these numbers floating around on Vientos.
- 12:59Dude, he's at you. Remember that?
- 13:02Was that 15 with Daniel Murphy? He's in like.
- 13:07Oh, really? He's he's like in Daniel Murphy
- 13:11air right now. In fact, I'm pretty sure.
- 13:14Hold on. Let me let me pull it up here.
- 13:15Make sure. It's a row back name.
- 13:17How about that? Where are we at here?
- 13:21How about that? That sort of thing?
- 13:25Probably not. Probably not.
- 13:31I literally had it is I can't seem to find it, but it was it
- 13:36was about the the RB is he had comparative to Daniel Murphy
- 13:48back in 2015. And if you recall like that's,
- 13:50that's the moment that or moment that's like that stretch of that
- 13:55postseason that Mets fans recall so easily because of how
- 13:59dominant he was. And if you don't recall just
- 14:02what kind of planet Daniel Murphy was on, you need to go
- 14:04back and look at the numbers trying to find.
- 14:09Oh yeah, yeah, With 11 RBI is already this postseason, Vientos
- 14:13has matched Daniel Murphy's total from 2015.
- 14:18He's one shy of the Mets record of 12, which was Curtis
- 14:22Granderson as well as John Olerud.
- 14:28Talk about a throwback name in 1999.
- 14:31From 99. Yeah, and.
- 14:33There's our, I mean, there's a lot of baseball left
- 14:36potentially. That's what I'm saying like that
- 14:40that for this. That's a good category, dude.
- 14:43That's a good. That's a good, it's a good group
- 14:45to be hanging out with. Those are some big names, so.
- 14:49Those who aren't paying all that close attention to Mark Vientos,
- 14:53which I don't know how you couldn't be because he's he's
- 14:55make, he's serving as a difference maker in more games
- 14:59than not at this point on on this run for the Mets.
- 15:04But if you're not paying attention, you need to lock it
- 15:07in. They they need to, they need to
- 15:10start putting up some mark Vientos is up in like 6 batter
- 15:14alerts on, on, on these broadcast a la Shohei Otani.
- 15:19Yeah, 'cause it's a good chance you're going to see some, some,
- 15:23some marquee magic. Yeah, yeah, dude, I think it I
- 15:28think it does start with unfortunately, I mean, not
- 15:31unfortunately I I'm not going to sit here and pretend like I'm a
- 15:38Mets fan. OK, so maybe it is unfortunate
- 15:40for some people, but like Lindor just always seems to be the eye
- 15:47of the storm. Just always seems, you know what
- 15:50I mean? Like get shut out Dodgers tire
- 15:53record and then bop lead off home run.
- 15:56And it's just like immediately jump starts and gets things
- 16:00going. I mean most of the stuff what
- 16:02they put up 6 through 2 put everything up in 2.
- 16:07Was it 632? So yeah, that was the.
- 16:11Most 632, yeah. That's an immediate response.
- 16:14It's an immediate answer. And it starts.
- 16:17With that. On, on the Lindor thing and, and
- 16:20kind of tying it back to the Vientos thing.
- 16:24I got to, I got to, I got to bring Mark Vientos back down to
- 16:29Earth a little bit 'cause I don't know if you saw his, his.
- 16:32You were the ones just complimenting you.
- 16:34I just, I know I'm saying like I have to bring Mark Vientos back
- 16:40down to Earth, even though I was the one that just.
- 16:42You built him up. You you built him up.
- 16:44You're going to bring him back down.
- 16:45I got it. I got to tear him back down a
- 16:47little bit. Not a whole lot, just a little
- 16:48bit. Just a little bit.
- 16:52You started this. Bring him up.
- 16:55You're bringing him down. OK, Yeah.
- 16:59Boldman It's all about ebb and flow, little yin and Yang.
- 17:03Humble him, humble him right now.
- 17:05What do you got? The the the comments after the
- 17:10game where he was talking about. Is this bulletin board material?
- 17:16No, no, it wasn't. It wasn't.
- 17:18But it was. It was just like a strange
- 17:20narrative to to sort of run with.
- 17:22But he talked about, I saw the Jordan memes floating around.
- 17:25I'm like, what is this about? And I look into it.
- 17:27I'm like, OK, I, I, I get why I'm seeing these now, but they
- 17:31are, they're talking to him at the game, he said.
- 17:35Because they asked him like, how'd you feel about being the
- 17:40guy at bat after they intentionally walk Lindor to
- 17:42load the bases? And he's like, to be honest, I
- 17:44took a personal mark. I, I know you're having a heck
- 17:51of an heck of a post season. I know I, for the reasons we
- 17:56just listed out, I'm still going to take my chances with you over
- 18:03Francisco Lindor. Buddy, come on.
- 18:07Yeah, come on. Yeah, To take it personal,
- 18:10that's just a baseball move. That's a business.
- 18:13That's a common sense move. So for you to sit there and say
- 18:16I took a personal, you're probably the only person that
- 18:19was surprised by that because everybody saw that coming big.
- 18:22Time. 100% agree. Springs down a little bit.
- 18:25I'm sorry. Yeah.
- 18:27Yeah, this is it. Just overall about the game.
- 18:31I I think what was excellent about Flaherty in game one was
- 18:36that it was able to conserve and make this game to bullpen game.
- 18:40It was happening anyway, but this bullpen game for the
- 18:42Dodgers a possibility. My issue is and and I don't
- 18:50think I'm crazy for feeling this way.
- 18:52I just, I don't know if I want to put all my cards on the table
- 18:57this early in the series. So you say, here's all my
- 19:01weapons. You're going to see it right
- 19:03away and you're going to see it throughout the series.
- 19:06And I get that. Like, they don't have a ton of
- 19:08options. They don't have much to work
- 19:11with. But like at the end of this
- 19:16series, when this starts getting into game five, Game 6, maybe
- 19:19even Game 7, and the Mets hitters are seeing your
- 19:23relievers for the 4th or 5th time at that point like that,
- 19:28that's going to show up. That's going to when, when a guy
- 19:33gets 3-4 ABS against the reliever in a week, that's going
- 19:41to play a role, That's going to play a factor.
- 19:43No, that's a great point. And, and for, for the people
- 19:46that aren't necessarily watching these, these arms that are
- 19:50making appearances night in and night out.
- 19:52And then they get to the end of the series.
- 19:54And the Mets, just hypothetically, for example,
- 19:57they have a they have a, a big moment.
- 19:59They string together some, some late inning magic.
- 20:02People go whoa, the Mets are back at it again, to your point.
- 20:09This was they they they laid the foundation for this by forcing
- 20:14the the Dodgers hand of of throwing.
- 20:16I mean, it wasn't even they're they're not even really forcing
- 20:18the hand of the Dodgers. This is just kind of where the
- 20:21Dodgers are at with with health and and personnel and all that.
- 20:25But I mean when when you when you bop some guys around, I
- 20:30mean, yeah, it kind of accelerates that process a
- 20:32little bit. But when you see these things
- 20:34happen late in the series, it's not always, but it a lot of time
- 20:39it's because you were able to force these guys into game
- 20:43action early. So then you you you accumulate
- 20:46those ABS A. 100% this is how you win series.
- 20:49In early games, yeah. And then you get to the end of
- 20:51the series and then the Mets are are coming back in the 9th and
- 20:55you go, how did that happen? Well, it's because they saw your
- 20:57late inning guys earlier in the series.
- 20:59Yeah, yeah. Then as great as the Dodgers
- 21:01bullpen has been for this stretch, that's everyone kind of
- 21:08limps to the finish line. That's how baseball is at this
- 21:10time of year. So it's it's going to be an
- 21:13interesting story, I. Mean I don't want to be too
- 21:15reactionary because we we just got done.
- 21:17I mean that that bullpen game, that Brazier started the game
- 21:24four of the DS Cansa Padres like just lights out, literally put
- 21:30up a zero. Like I don't, I don't want to
- 21:32sit here and say the same. I get it.
- 21:36I get it. I'm just saying this is a 7
- 21:38game. This is a 7 game set versus A5.
- 21:40It's just it's very different there.
- 21:43What was I going to say? Dang it, I had a good thought.
- 21:48I had another good thought. Oh, it was.
- 21:50It was something totally off topic.
- 21:53Not that off topic technically. Did you see that crazy Otani
- 21:58runners in scoring position? Dude he's hitting like he's
- 22:01close to like 850 over his last 20 ABS.
- 22:05What's going on? What is?
- 22:08I again, I feel like I keep drawing these, I feel like I
- 22:13keep drawing these parallels like people like if you're, if
- 22:17you're closely watching, if you're just like a casual fan,
- 22:22regardless which side of the camp you're in.
- 22:24This is super impressive. That is hard to wrap your head
- 22:28around. Like you could be, you could be
- 22:29a 162 baseball fan, you could just be the most casual.
- 22:33But when that stat pops up on your screen, that's that's
- 22:36something where you're like, that's a typo.
- 22:39I haven't seen that dated sale but I I think it was before game
- 22:42two it was like 16 for his his last 19 with runners in scoring
- 22:46position. Yeah, 16 for 19, which I I
- 22:51believe came out to like 8. That's.
- 22:55Stupid. I don't know that's.
- 22:57Stupid. I think there's teams in the
- 23:00postseason that haven't even had that many hits. 842 square in
- 23:08position. That's nuts.
- 23:11That's different. He's a he's an alien.
- 23:14He really is. Tip of the captain Sean Maniah
- 23:18Sean Maniah, continuing to be a name that just steps up, takes
- 23:23the ball. Big true.
- 23:24Gives gives you quality innings. Big, big, big true, dude.
- 23:32Can we track this all the way back to the haircut?
- 23:36Can we run it back that far? Can we give it?
- 23:38Can we give it that much credit? I'm sure it it it impacted it I
- 23:44will I. Will it's a big move.
- 23:45I'm not going to put all of his success on that.
- 23:49Yeah, but. It's a big move, can't just
- 23:54ignore that. Yeah, I think it's a little bit
- 23:56more than just a coincidence. Yeah, people like didn't even
- 23:59recognize him. He does look good, though.
- 24:03I think they've what was it? Who's on that call?
- 24:10Who's in that broadcast last series with the Phillies?
- 24:17Who's in that booth? And the Mets?
- 24:20Would that have been, is that Fox?
- 24:22That'd have been Fox, because TBS had the American League, was
- 24:28it not Joe Davis or no, Joe Davis would have been LA, Yeah.
- 24:32Which is I got another a little piece of beef with that.
- 24:36Man, who was on that call? Why am I blanking right now?
- 24:43I'm struggling. Someone's yelling at us.
- 24:47I mean, I can anyhoos, I think they were, they were talking
- 24:55about how he's kind of dropped that angle down a little bit and
- 25:01it's worked for him and it's just like.
- 25:04Oh, was it you talking about Frank Gore?
- 25:05Was Frank Gore making this? No, because he was TBS but.
- 25:09Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. He was.
- 25:13He was the Guardians Tiger Series.
- 25:16He's now the Yankees Guardian Series.
- 25:18He's in that with Darn. It was just, it was Wainwright,
- 25:21wasn't it? Wayne Wright, Wayne O and AJ Yep
- 25:26is one of those two they talked about like the the lane change
- 25:31with with Manaya kind of dropping down a little bit been
- 25:33a huge factor huge role. Sorry, I guess we wasn't even
- 25:37really that worth it to find it, but whatever.
- 25:40Yeah, Geminis look good, man. Like it's it's good ball.
- 25:47This is the point that I'm not trying to just be like a a met
- 25:52hater, even though I kind of am a met hater.
- 25:57This is the point that I was curious to see if the magic will
- 26:02run out is when you go, you know, 27 game sets.
- 26:06It's different with three and five game sets.
- 26:10You got to prove yourself a little bit over 7 and you're
- 26:15going to see these starters potentially twice like it's it's
- 26:19going to be a big deal. You know, similar to the way we
- 26:23saw the Tigers just hammer down Scooble to the point where you
- 26:29know he got lit up in his last start for the Guardians to move
- 26:33on. It's like.
- 26:36We didn't even talk about that game, by the way.
- 26:38I know we didn't even talk about whatever.
- 26:40Last episode, what did I say before that start?
- 26:42I said I'm not, I'm not writing off Scooble, but how many times
- 26:46can you go to that? Well, how many?
- 26:48Times and neither of these teams like the Dodgers or the Mets,
- 26:53they don't have a very deep well when it comes to arms, when it
- 26:58comes to repeatable success. It's like it's a good story of
- 27:02what Minaya is doing. It's a good story of what
- 27:04Severino is doing, but if you're going to, if you're going to
- 27:09assume that Kodai Sangha is giving you somewhere in the
- 27:14middle of between those two starts, you've seen him so far,
- 27:17it's like. Better help you're hitting that
- 27:21day. That's what I'm saying.
- 27:23I just, I don't see the length, I don't see the depth pitching
- 27:26wise for either team. Well, Game 3 slated to be
- 27:31between Walker Bueller and Lisa Luis Severino, so that's kind of
- 27:36an encapsulation of of exactly what you're talking.
- 27:38About, but you've got to be like pitching for some kind of You're
- 27:42going to get $12.00 this offseason if you don't make a
- 27:45decent start, bro. And you already know how I feel
- 27:48about Luis Severino this year. That's, that's been well
- 27:50documented. So I'm, I'm, I'm look, I'm not
- 27:54trying to be a Dodger hater here, but I'm not going to go
- 27:57against what I've been saying this whole time about Luis
- 27:59Severino. I'm going to.
- 28:00I'm riding with, I'm riding with the riding with the Mets in game
- 28:04Game 3. Oh, yeah.
- 28:05All right. Fair enough.
- 28:07Walker Buehler just hasn't. He has not consistently been
- 28:11able to to to prove himself as a legitimate threat to provide you
- 28:18the high quality output that he was giving you well before this
- 28:25year. Well, look, we're going to get
- 28:27into it here in a minute, but it's cold in New York.
- 28:30Let's get into it. Let's talk.
- 28:31A bit of a bigger ballpark in New York, so maybe, maybe Walker
- 28:36has some room to breathe there a little bit more.
- 28:41It's possible. It's possible.
- 28:43Let's talk about it. Speaking of that cold weather,
- 28:45I, I, I nearly shed a tear when I turned on the when I turned on
- 28:49that guards Yanks game. And I, I see the the rosy red
- 28:53cheeks in the mock turtlenecks. I'm going, Oh, this is October
- 28:57baseball baby. Yeah.
- 28:58Blown in the hands. Oh, the Letterman jackets in the
- 29:02crowd. I love it, I love it.
- 29:06I will say I was I was a little confused and not to bring up the
- 29:09Miami thing again, but like if I was watching this game, the this
- 29:12first game between the guards and Yanks back home, I'd have
- 29:15been like, OK, this makes. Sense bundle up, yeah.
- 29:17But I've been walking around these last two days.
- 29:19I mean, I got beads of sweat rolling down my back.
- 29:24It's so hot out here. Whoa, it's humid, man.
- 29:28It's humid out here in Miami. You don't know about that humid
- 29:31East Coast life, but. I don't it was still one O 2
- 29:35today so that's. That's dry heat though.
- 29:38It's dry heat, but this guards Yanks game.
- 29:42Yeah. Hey, in case you didn't know,
- 29:46Taylor Swift was at the game. And I tell you what, that
- 29:50cracked me up because you could tell, dude, you could tell Major
- 29:56League Baseball was having a field day with.
- 29:59They were so giddy. They were like cutting to Taylor
- 30:02Swift and Travis Kelce going like, oh, like, is this how
- 30:04we're supposed to do it? Do we cut to them like every 3
- 30:06seconds? This is fun.
- 30:08This is fun. Guys, I think they get, I think
- 30:10they're on the Fox payroll. You really think they're on the
- 30:13Fox payroll? Well, no, this was this was TBS.
- 30:19All true. Maybe they're getting paid by
- 30:21all the networks. Getting paid by somebody?
- 30:24Yeah. Did you see her mistakenly
- 30:27cheer, cheer for this for the Yankees?
- 30:29I did see that. That was nice.
- 30:31I like that stupid. Just not a lot going on in that
- 30:38noggin. I think any who's good game,
- 30:41good game, you know? Well, I mean, you can't have a
- 30:44song, you can't have a Welcome to New York song and then be
- 30:47caught pulling for the guards. You know, does she she ever
- 30:50Welcome to New York song? I don't know.
- 30:52They played it on the broadcast. They really I'm that's what I'm
- 30:55saying, but. The.
- 30:57The broadcast was leaning into this hard.
- 30:59Yeah. Anyway, enough about till.
- 31:01And Kelsey's from Cleveland, obviously.
- 31:03So like, that's the whole point of them being there, I think.
- 31:06Which I get and I respect. And Spike Lee can't stand the
- 31:13guy. He's so annoying.
- 31:14He's so obnoxious. He's just there, man.
- 31:16He's going to be. There till the always there.
- 31:18I know. Look, they mentioned it on the
- 31:23broadcast. I think Ron Darling did 27 walks
- 31:30in the series against the Royals.
- 31:36Another five tonight I believe. Maybe 6.
- 31:40When I checked it was 6 but there was like still 3 innings
- 31:43to go. At a certain point.
- 31:47Give me the total on that because like I said, last I
- 31:49checked it was six. I'm.
- 31:50Going to find that for you. I don't know.
- 31:56It may have it may have kept it six.
- 31:58It was a lot though, a lot of wild.
- 32:01Pitches 777 walks. Lot of wild pitches, a lot of
- 32:05just careless. Like take, take better care of
- 32:08the baseball. Yeah, I agree.
- 32:11I for sure, and I'm not, I'm not sitting here saying that the the
- 32:14Yankees like dominated this game by any means, but I think at a
- 32:19certain point this is what I told you was going to be a
- 32:23factor. Before the post season started,
- 32:25the Yankees led the league in walks.
- 32:28They're very much back to like the old school.
- 32:32Let's just get on base and see what happens.
- 32:35And it's and it's kind of work. To this point, their offense
- 32:38hasn't clicked. Nothing's really clicked
- 32:41offensively except for Stanton. I know Soto got into one, smoked
- 32:46the ball up the middle. I think you owe me an apology.
- 32:49You were, you were. Give me the side eye last
- 32:52episode when I said, is it time to consider the fact that maybe
- 32:57we're looking at a Captain Phillips situation where you've
- 32:59got Giancarlo Stanton kicking in the door looking at I told you
- 33:03to stay, I'm the captain now. I'm the captain now.
- 33:08What did Judge do tonight? You go, oh, for what did Stanton
- 33:11do? You get 1 into the left.
- 33:12Tell me you watch. Center bleachers.
- 33:14And you tell me that he looked bad.
- 33:16That first strikeout shouldn't have happened.
- 33:19The first strikeout shouldn't have happened.
- 33:21I'm not. Concerned about that?
- 33:22He's good hacks like I'm telling you it's he's coming out of
- 33:25this. I saw a couple fly outs tonight.
- 33:28Saw a couple fly outs tonight. I'm kidding.
- 33:31He's not like he's not squaring baseballs up.
- 33:33I mean, yeah, he may like, he may lean into one every now and
- 33:36then, but I'm that. It's.
- 33:39Besides the point, it's besides the point.
- 33:41Well, as of right now, Giancarlo Stanton is the guy that's
- 33:45leading that offense. Well, I mean, Juan Soto's
- 33:49finding a way to to drive in runs and get off base.
- 33:51But I'm saying in terms of like that all like just striking the
- 33:57fear of God in the in the picture, that's that's Giancarlo
- 34:00Stanton. Right.
- 34:00I know, I know. It's kind of awesome.
- 34:03It's kind of awesome. The man is a man amongst boys at
- 34:09times when he gets in one, it can look ugly more often than
- 34:13not. But during that period of of hot
- 34:16streak, he could have had potentially two or three tonight
- 34:21like he had just missed one. That first AB was sent to the
- 34:25moon that that Stephen Kwan caught in left field There's
- 34:31yeah, he's on it. But my whole point to this
- 34:34conversation is the fact that like the Yankees haven't even
- 34:36really found their their groove yet offensively excellent
- 34:40excellent start from Rodon kind of toned back the cockiness and
- 34:45burning out through two innings which was nice to see just kind
- 34:49of calm go about your business. A lot of swings and misses.
- 34:54I think he had like I think 1819 swing and misses like that's,
- 35:00that's crazy. 9 punches. May have gotten up to 20 I
- 35:04thought I saw. It's it's a good start.
- 35:06It's a good start. Rizzo having some hacks that
- 35:10like makes makes you think that the hand is is feeling pretty
- 35:15decent. So yeah, yeah, big, big Luke
- 35:23Weaver. Like I think we got we got to
- 35:26start giving some love. Dude, this is I.
- 35:29Was going to ask you about him. How How does Like, where's your
- 35:32head at in terms of having Peace of Mind when you see Weaver
- 35:38start to get loose in the pen? With a lead, it feels good.
- 35:43It feels really good. Like it it's I think he's got a
- 35:50really cool story for those who aren't familiar, like he's he's
- 35:53a failed starter and you know was DFA Ed and it's like he's
- 36:00figured it out. They talked about it on the
- 36:02broadcast tonight. He has like athleticism on the
- 36:04field as well. He does he holds runners really
- 36:07well, which most closers don't do.
- 36:09He's not super slow to the plate.
- 36:11He's athletic off the mound and any kind of defensively, but
- 36:14like the mentality he has, he's, he's like a, he's kind of easy
- 36:19to root for. He's goofy, he's a little weird,
- 36:22but he's also like super confident and he's, he's doing
- 36:27his thing, man. I'm just, I, I got the 8th
- 36:31inning, but the button being pressed for the 8th inning
- 36:34tonight, I, it made sense just because of how that was
- 36:38developing. And that to me felt like the
- 36:40save more than the 9th. When Jose Ramirez is up, there's
- 36:44two outs. He was the third, yeah.
- 36:48Like that's the biggest AB of the night and we contact to the
- 36:54right side man, like the fastball up, change up, down.
- 36:58It plays. It really plays.
- 37:00You can tell he's got a fastball that has like some life to it
- 37:02that probably plays up even though it's only 9596, I think
- 37:07it plays up higher. So he's he's dope.
- 37:11Dude, you want to you want to see some eerie look at Luke
- 37:14Weaver's build compared to early MO?
- 37:17Like young MO dude. It's, it's wild, it's true.
- 37:21Very, very yes. Very similar builds right now.
- 37:26Yeah, doing it in different styles, different ways, but I
- 37:30mean that Clay Holmes just I if if they if they end up pulling
- 37:37all this off and then they hoist the trophy, like I don't want to
- 37:41hear another Yankee fan complain about that guy.
- 37:44Like the for I can't imagine how hard that is to be a closer to
- 37:49be dominant, to be an All Star, to be legally in the categories
- 37:55at that point. He was dominating like at the
- 37:58first half of the year, he was insane.
- 37:59It it's impressive for somebody to like, take that, wear that on
- 38:05the chin and figure out a different role and be like an
- 38:10integral piece to success for their bullpen.
- 38:14And what you mentioned about the Dodgers earlier, like the two
- 38:17teams that we were most worried about pitching wise have looked
- 38:21really good pitching really, really good.
- 38:24The Yankees just gave up their the bullpen just gave up their
- 38:27first run of the postseason tonight.
- 38:29It's pretty impressive. Tonight.
- 38:35Yeah, man, some. Some I mean, it's a good point.
- 38:38Some storylines certainly being flipped on their head in real
- 38:43time, which I mean is always cool to see.
- 38:46I mean regard, I mean, I know people are just going to hate
- 38:49teams just to hate teams and and you know, that's the way it is,
- 38:53whether it's a rival or just a team that you just don't want to
- 38:57see succeed in the post season. Regardless of that, it it from a
- 39:03baseball fan perspective, it's it's cool to see storylines,
- 39:08narratives, rather to see those flipped on their heads.
- 39:12When you have just about every reason to believe something's
- 39:17going to go a certain way, such as the Dodgers rotation or or
- 39:21really staff as a whole being just a massive question mark
- 39:25coming to the postseason. And then they come in and put
- 39:27like, like we said, three, they're string to get the three
- 39:30consecutive shutouts. And you know, I mean, outside of
- 39:35like we said, outside of Game 2 have looked pretty strong.
- 39:39And then with the with the with the Yankees.
- 39:42Flipping that script. Pretty, pretty COO, pretty,
- 39:46pretty, pretty COO. Anything else we got, Like you
- 39:51said, there's only, I mean, if you're following these games,
- 39:53you obviously know there's only one, one game so far in the LCS,
- 39:57Game 2 on Tuesday, Tuesday night.
- 40:05Travel day for the NL side of things, correct?
- 40:08Then vice versa Wednesday. Next you'll hear from us should
- 40:12be Thursday night. Yep, you got.
- 40:15Anything else on this series? It's a long one.
- 40:22It's a long one. After the win tonight, Paige is
- 40:25like, you don't look that happy. And I'm like seven game sets a
- 40:28little different. A lot of baseball left, A lot of
- 40:31things can happen. Game ones don't mean as much as
- 40:36they as they mean in a in A5 game set.
- 40:39So seven games is just, I think people forget until it gets to
- 40:43this point, the postseason. I think I I think I saw the stat
- 40:48today and I can never remember how it translates from 5 game
- 40:54set to seven game set. But I believe the stat I saw
- 40:56today was reflective of game of seven game sets and I believe it
- 41:02said the team that wins the first game goes on to win the
- 41:06series 66% of the time. Yeah, 'cause the five game set
- 41:11was like 78% of the time it was like in the 70s.
- 41:15So yeah. So it's still an advantage,
- 41:17don't get me wrong. But like, you know, there's a
- 41:20lot of baseball left. All four teams are very good.
- 41:24That's why they're in this position.
- 41:26So you said it. The scrippies can be flippied at
- 41:31any time, so shall look out. You know, I'm happy, but I'm I'm
- 41:37not comfortable by any means. Yeah.
- 41:43We'll get comfy for these next couple days of game action and
- 41:48we will catch up with you guys Thursday night talking more LCS
- 41:56action and then we will bring it on home to the World Series with
- 42:02the recap. Well, maybe not.
- 42:06We'll see. We'll see where the series are
- 42:07at it. It may or may not be a recap,
- 42:09we'll see, but you'll be hearing from us next Thursday and then
- 42:13from out after that, who knows? Curveballs don't chase them.
- 42:20We. Love you all as always, looking
- 42:22forward to talking more baseball with you guys soon.
- 42:24Until next time, stay filthy.
