- 3:48Speaker 1: Podcast with the Legend Big You is here. Well, se Man,
- 3:52Speaker 1: thanks for having me, Thank you for coming. I feel
- 3:55Speaker 1: like it's long, long, long overdue man. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 3:58Speaker 1: I ain't really did know a lot of interviews into
- 4:00Speaker 1: up until right now. Yeah you got you know this.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I watched yesterday. I went to uh to uh Mele's
- 4:07Speaker 1: Diner and Sherman Oaks and watched the first Was it
- 4:11Speaker 1: the first full episode or was that two episodes? That
- 4:13Speaker 1: was only one? It goes so fast, right, it was
- 4:16Speaker 1: only that's the only episode one. So this FX show,
- 4:21Speaker 1: it's it's hip hop uncovered, right, hip hop uncovered, Yes, sir,
- 4:24Speaker 1: hip hop uncovered. It follows you and four others as
- 4:29Speaker 1: kind of behind the scenes factors in hip hop now
- 4:32Speaker 1: for people who aren't familiar with big U, I think
- 4:38Speaker 1: that if people were to just google big You, they're like, Okay,
- 4:40Speaker 1: big U is a big a gangster from LA. I
- 4:45Speaker 1: don't I don't want to. I I don't want to put
- 4:46Speaker 1: nothing on you that you know what I'm saying on camera,
- 4:49Speaker 1: but you know, explain to to the people who aren't
- 4:53Speaker 1: familiar with with who you are what you do, kind
- 4:56Speaker 1: of like, why is there an FX show that centered raction? Man?
- 5:02Speaker 1: We pitched this show Jimmy Jimmy Chris came to me,
- 5:05Speaker 1: uh four years ago with the idea for a show.
- 5:08Speaker 1: And that's at the time that everybody was starting doing
- 5:11Speaker 1: shows and E. E E. T had hit the It was
- 5:17Speaker 1: that love and hip hop and hit real big, So
- 5:19Speaker 1: everybody was trying to get shows. And I had already
- 5:22Speaker 1: done like several documentaries. What people don't know about me
- 5:25Speaker 1: is how much work I have done in film and
- 5:27Speaker 1: projects and I had. I wrote and co acted and
- 5:31Speaker 1: acted in Forced of Execution with Ving Range, Danny Treio,
- 5:38Speaker 1: and Steven Sagau. I co wrote that with the guy
- 5:42Speaker 1: I got banged out of that didn't get my credits,
- 5:45Speaker 1: but I did jam messag Jay, two Turn Troubles and
- 5:48Speaker 1: Microphone Documentary. I produced several different films. I managed Ving
- 5:53Speaker 1: Range for like seven seven eight years from baby Boy.
- 5:57Speaker 1: So it's just a lot of people never knew the
- 5:59Speaker 1: work that I've done, and so when I present projects,
- 6:03Speaker 1: it's crazy because uh, filmmakers are excited to see big
- 6:10Speaker 1: U rap music. It's scared to see their our owner.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Is he gonna rob us? He is he out to
- 6:17Speaker 1: get something? And and it's crazy because I'm more comfortable
- 6:21Speaker 1: in the in the in the area of making TV
- 6:26Speaker 1: shows and projects because I can go in the room
- 6:29Speaker 1: with filmmakers and people who produce in that area and
- 6:32Speaker 1: they see me as a story, they see me as
- 6:35Speaker 1: they like, Yo, you can have a mini series. Yeah,
- 6:38Speaker 1: and that's and their thing is that. But if I
- 6:40Speaker 1: go in with people who do music, it's the oh,
- 6:43Speaker 1: he's the blue Shita thug, or he come to rob us,
- 6:46Speaker 1: and they don't understand that I make most of my
- 6:49Speaker 1: money producing shows and that's even doing concerts. And so
- 6:54Speaker 1: that's what helped me get this done because people seeing
- 6:58Speaker 1: the vision. Yeah, I think it was like overdue. I remember,
- 7:02Speaker 1: I think I want to say me and Head were
- 7:04Speaker 1: talking about it, maybe like a year or two ago,
- 7:05Speaker 1: just like when is the big you like Netflix show coming,
- 7:09Speaker 1: not even like a documentary like someone plays you. You
- 7:12Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, and like just follows you through
- 7:14Speaker 1: your life and shit like but you mentioned people like
- 7:17Speaker 1: on the wrap side of things, like you definitely have
- 7:21Speaker 1: a stigma. Like you said, when it comes to the
- 7:24Speaker 1: hip hop world, people they might be intimidated or they
- 7:28Speaker 1: might be like, oh shit, a big us around like
- 7:31Speaker 1: what's going on? Type shit? Yeah, talk about your I
- 7:36Speaker 1: mean obviously for people who don't know, man, I mean,
- 7:37Speaker 1: we'll get it. We'll get into all of that. But
- 7:39Speaker 1: you know, you you found Nipsey. What was that O four,
- 7:42Speaker 1: O three? Oh oh no, I came home. You came
- 7:45Speaker 1: home four, So it was like five oh six, O seven.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Was Nipsey already working with Steve no Oka brough Steve
- 7:51Speaker 1: on Okay, Okay, I'm brought Steve on. So I come
- 7:54Speaker 1: home on O four and in O four I miss
- 7:58Speaker 1: Steve because Steve the time was dating my wife's niece. Okay,
- 8:03Speaker 1: So that's how I know Steve. I don't know Steve
- 8:06Speaker 1: from music. I know Steve. I bet I met him
- 8:08Speaker 1: in a music sitting at a concert and I didn't
- 8:10Speaker 1: have no artists at the time, so I met Steve.
- 8:14Speaker 1: He was kind of having some kind of conflict with
- 8:16Speaker 1: Sugar overseeing the N word, and I came home in
- 8:19Speaker 1: two thousand and four, so when I met Steve, he
- 8:22Speaker 1: was kind of standing on was like whoa what something like,
- 8:24Speaker 1: what's something in a big U? He was like all right,
- 8:28Speaker 1: he was like ready to go, and I'm like, what
- 8:30Speaker 1: was that. I had no clue about, you know, the
- 8:34Speaker 1: N word to see because I wasn't bresst to growing
- 8:38Speaker 1: on social media and all that shit yet. And so
- 8:42Speaker 1: that's how me and Steve met, And then he called
- 8:45Speaker 1: me or reached back out to me after he realized
- 8:49Speaker 1: that I was saying that my wife he knows he's
- 8:53Speaker 1: dating my wife's niece and they had been together for
- 8:55Speaker 1: like three four years. And then he was like, oh
- 8:57Speaker 1: wait a minute, man. He was like, man, he fuck music, man,
- 9:00Speaker 1: you don't want to give a shit to do something else.
- 9:01Speaker 1: And I'm like, yeah, right. But then I was messed
- 9:05Speaker 1: with SUG. So I had my run with SUG for
- 9:08Speaker 1: a while and managing Corrupt, and then when Corrupt left SUG.
- 9:12Speaker 1: That was early early on that was. That was early.
- 9:14Speaker 1: That was like in the early nineties. Well, you got
- 9:16Speaker 1: locked up in ninety one, right now, I got locked
- 9:18Speaker 1: in ninety one, and then come back to two thousand
- 9:20Speaker 1: and four. So when did you start working with Corrupt?
- 9:22Speaker 1: That was I started with Corrupt in ninety, like eighty nine,
- 9:26Speaker 1: nineteen eighty nine. By eighty nine ninety I met Corrupt.
- 9:29Speaker 1: So that was technically was that technically before death Row? Right,
- 9:32Speaker 1: it was definitely for death Road. That's why I said
- 9:34Speaker 1: the death Row thing wouldn't have happened and that and
- 9:36Speaker 1: amongst other things. And then I had la Quan, So
- 9:39Speaker 1: actually my first artist wasn't Corrupt, nor did my first
- 9:43Speaker 1: artist I ever dealt with singularly was Laqwan popeo q
- 9:46Speaker 1: we had. He had a gold selling album at the time,
- 9:49Speaker 1: the b Time, Okay Okay, and he came to me
- 9:52Speaker 1: in the Foxhill Mall and asked me to manage him.
- 9:56Speaker 1: And he was about fifteen to sixteen at a flat
- 9:58Speaker 1: top and he walked to me, no, no, no, no no,
- 10:02Speaker 1: Well Lakwan Poppy q Kenny Keepen. He was the first
- 10:05Speaker 1: one I ever dealt with. So he came up to
- 10:07Speaker 1: you at the moment he came up to me and
- 10:08Speaker 1: the mall was like, man, don't want you to manage me?
- 10:10Speaker 1: And I'm like no. The first thing he said to
- 10:12Speaker 1: me was crazy. He said he you were for my father,
- 10:14Speaker 1: right you big here. I'm like, I don't work for
- 10:17Speaker 1: your father. I never worked for your father. Who's your father?
- 10:19Speaker 1: Then he said, mister Green, and I'm like, oh, reverse that.
- 10:23Speaker 1: I have done work for your father. I have a
- 10:25Speaker 1: great deal of respect for your father. But his father
- 10:27Speaker 1: was in the FEDS on his way to the fair.
- 10:29Speaker 1: We knew he had got pop. I was his I
- 10:31Speaker 1: was his father's young boy. I was one of his fathers,
- 10:34Speaker 1: you know. Like he called me like, you're handle some shit.
- 10:38Speaker 1: And then now I'm seeing his son and he got
- 10:41Speaker 1: this flat tip he face cleaned, and I'm like, you
- 10:44Speaker 1: got a song. I ain't never heard the song. And
- 10:47Speaker 1: then when he right, when you know what somebody tell
- 10:49Speaker 1: you about something, now you start hearing it everywhere. And
- 10:52Speaker 1: so then he called me back, came to my house.
- 10:55Speaker 1: He like, man, I'm gonna show you how to do it.
- 10:57Speaker 1: And I'm like, well, you got to show me what
- 10:58Speaker 1: the fuck to do, because I have no clue on
- 11:00Speaker 1: how to manage nothing. None of that. So then he
- 11:03Speaker 1: started going to He started taking me to his little shows,
- 11:06Speaker 1: going to his video shoes. I was going in and
- 11:08Speaker 1: then after a couple of months, now I'm still going
- 11:10Speaker 1: in and out of town hustling, and his shit got
- 11:13Speaker 1: even bigger. So I was seeing when he came back
- 11:15Speaker 1: to town. But then now I'm going I'm going to
- 11:18Speaker 1: the to the soda, getting my bread, coming back, and
- 11:22Speaker 1: so I was still messing with him. Then after about
- 11:26Speaker 1: you know, something happened and my crew got hit. So
- 11:29Speaker 1: I was kind of sitting at home and my broomfield
- 11:31Speaker 1: came to me and was like, I got a kid
- 11:33Speaker 1: named Corrupt. I want you to meet him. And so
- 11:36Speaker 1: I had the bread at the time, and his brother
- 11:38Speaker 1: had bread too, but he was like, man, come on, boy, help.
- 11:40Speaker 1: That's when I met Corrupt, and I started moving with Corrupt,
- 11:43Speaker 1: and it was kind of fast man. So it was
- 11:46Speaker 1: like it was like a labor of love. But and
- 11:50Speaker 1: how me and Corrupt relationship built because to me, it
- 11:52Speaker 1: was like I didn't know we even had a relationship
- 11:55Speaker 1: because I really hadn't done nothing for him. I wasn't
- 11:57Speaker 1: playing on signing him till my label to delict to
- 12:00Speaker 1: the table. We actually never got to the paperwork to
- 12:02Speaker 1: even get it done, but it was like he was signing.
- 12:05Speaker 1: And so I seen Corrupt one night going to go
- 12:08Speaker 1: do a lick with the homies, you know, going to go.
- 12:11Speaker 1: I pulled him out the car. I called him. He
- 12:13Speaker 1: tells the story all the time, and that established us right.
- 12:16Speaker 1: And then we would be in the garage, clown every vs.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Clown and wrapping. We all playing. And it was crazy
- 12:23Speaker 1: because I got a letter. I was on I was
- 12:26Speaker 1: on my sixth year in prison, and I got a
- 12:29Speaker 1: letter and it had three thousand dollars on it. So
- 12:33Speaker 1: when we get your mail, they'll send you like sometimes
- 12:36Speaker 1: they even send you a pictures first, or they'll send
- 12:38Speaker 1: you a card that you got money. And they sent
- 12:40Speaker 1: me the letter. Let me know, have money so I
- 12:42Speaker 1: can go fill out my draw. So I got three
- 12:44Speaker 1: thousand dollars and nobody never sent me three thousand dollars.
- 12:47Speaker 1: And then it was on lockdown. So I think, uh,
- 12:52Speaker 1: four or five days letter pictures came and it was
- 12:56Speaker 1: no letter, was just one thing in there and it
- 12:59Speaker 1: was like I love you and Corrupt, no letter, no
- 13:03Speaker 1: nothing that was it. And it was just a gang
- 13:04Speaker 1: of pictures and I'm like, damn, So he sent you
- 13:07Speaker 1: the three bands, sent me three bands some pictures. So
- 13:11Speaker 1: this was like ninety four ninety five, No, this would
- 13:13Speaker 1: have been ninety six ninety seven. It was so this
- 13:17Speaker 1: was like I was already in like because I wasn't
- 13:19Speaker 1: at Calipat no more. I was at what was I
- 13:24Speaker 1: It was like ninety six ninety seven Crups already you
- 13:27Speaker 1: know established, Yeah, because it was before a week of
- 13:30Speaker 1: Freaky came out. Yeah, that was after he left and
- 13:33Speaker 1: did the answer thing and the corrupt right, Okay, yeah,
- 13:35Speaker 1: you're right, you're right. So it was then he was
- 13:37Speaker 1: still with dev By that time, dog food was already
- 13:40Speaker 1: out dog pounds. It was before dog food because he
- 13:43Speaker 1: had got some when it was before. So when was that?
- 13:44Speaker 1: I think that was ninety five ninety five. That's when
- 13:47Speaker 1: he shit. That's when he hit me crazy and then
- 13:50Speaker 1: he then we came off lockdown and I called my wife.
- 13:53Speaker 1: My wife like, did you get the letter from Ricky?
- 13:55Speaker 1: And I'm like yeah, you got the win And I'm
- 13:57Speaker 1: like yeah, I want this store and everything, and I'm
- 13:59Speaker 1: like wall yeah, And I called him and then shortly
- 14:01Speaker 1: after that he brought me a cell phone like he
- 14:04Speaker 1: I had like the first cell phone in prison. Technically
- 14:06Speaker 1: that was contraband, right, Hello, that's a record label, by
- 14:12Speaker 1: the way, we contryband. No. So, uh so you when
- 14:16Speaker 1: you got out of jail, you said you were rocking
- 14:17Speaker 1: with Sugar. Yeah, and so explain to me that because
- 14:20Speaker 1: because you know Sugar is a very uh blooded he's
- 14:24Speaker 1: a well no, no, he's just a you know people.
- 14:27Speaker 1: People either have amazing things to say about him or
- 14:30Speaker 1: they got very polarizing, you know what I'm saying. So
- 14:33Speaker 1: when you got out, well, well my little brother got
- 14:37Speaker 1: killed first, my little brother got killed at the studio.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Were Corrupt now corrupt key rocking all them? So that
- 14:42Speaker 1: kind of like Sugar was in jail. I was in
- 14:46Speaker 1: jail yet not that he was. That kind of like
- 14:50Speaker 1: pondered us together, like when my little brother got killed, Sugar,
- 14:52Speaker 1: because Corrupt wanted to go back to death row. He
- 14:54Speaker 1: asked me, can to go back? And should he go back?
- 14:57Speaker 1: And I'm like, yeah, get your money, like you can't
- 15:00Speaker 1: else bro back. So that that's when he went back
- 15:04Speaker 1: to death row after he left Entree, And that kind
- 15:06Speaker 1: of pissed Snoop and Dads. I remember there was that
- 15:09Speaker 1: there was that double XL cover with Corrupt and left
- 15:12Speaker 1: eye was on it and shut. Yeah, it was like
- 15:15Speaker 1: it was like when Corrupt like went back. Here was
- 15:18Speaker 1: that ship. It was probably probably around the time we're talking,
- 15:20Speaker 1: because it was it was like it was like the
- 15:23Speaker 1: new I think it was when Crooked Eye was rolling
- 15:25Speaker 1: with death Row and ship. Yeah, because I wasn't I
- 15:28Speaker 1: had kind of was in transition at that time. Then
- 15:30Speaker 1: I went to the whole. I did three years and
- 15:32Speaker 1: nine months almost four years in the shoes, so I
- 15:34Speaker 1: didn't have nothing. I didn't see no from I think
- 15:37Speaker 1: I got on. I got to January two thousand and four,
- 15:39Speaker 1: So we go back four years from there is when
- 15:42Speaker 1: my life stopped. What did you if you don't mind sharing,
- 15:46Speaker 1: what what? What? What did you end up in the
- 15:48Speaker 1: whole for? I knocked somebody eye out. It was a
- 15:51Speaker 1: conflict and and we had altercation in his and his
- 15:55Speaker 1: eye came out. All my cousins are in prison, and
- 15:58Speaker 1: I've I've been thoroughly educated on how mentally exhausting being
- 16:03Speaker 1: in the hole can be. Can you kind of like
- 16:04Speaker 1: give us some of that, because, like I know, because
- 16:06Speaker 1: for people who don't know, it's twenty three hours a
- 16:08Speaker 1: day lockdown. No, it's twenty four hours a day. Because
- 16:10Speaker 1: the way Corkoran's Shoe did it was you couldn't it
- 16:13Speaker 1: was so many people in the shoe that you couldn't
- 16:16Speaker 1: get your You couldn't get your one day out to shoot.
- 16:18Speaker 1: It was too many bodies. So they would make you
- 16:20Speaker 1: wait and like you start the seals, and then you
- 16:23Speaker 1: would get eight hours out the seal one day a week,
- 16:28Speaker 1: and that would count for your so called one hour
- 16:30Speaker 1: out the sale a day. Wow. So and then we
- 16:33Speaker 1: would be we would be we would be in these
- 16:36Speaker 1: we we would be in these dog kettles. So they
- 16:39Speaker 1: had lined up a bunch of dog kettles up and
- 16:43Speaker 1: down in a row, and they put the little toilets
- 16:47Speaker 1: in it. So you go in there. They put all
- 16:48Speaker 1: the inmates in there, just your draws, your shoes. You
- 16:51Speaker 1: can't take nothing else out, and you sit out there
- 16:53Speaker 1: for eight hours and they could get you take you back.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Ring got another group of eight hours. So it's I
- 16:58Speaker 1: guess they started this shit like four in the morning whatever.
- 17:01Speaker 1: You go be out there from four in the morning
- 17:02Speaker 1: till whatever time for eight thousand. So that's how it was.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Was that it's crazy because we always hear about like,
- 17:09Speaker 1: you know, you're supposed to rehabilitate in prison. That's what
- 17:12Speaker 1: they say now in California. California drop that philosophy. When
- 17:17Speaker 1: I was in Cossewors still like they remove rehabilitation off
- 17:21Speaker 1: all California state prisons. It's just straight punishment. It's just no,
- 17:24Speaker 1: it's just casce racing. They used to when I came
- 17:28Speaker 1: in two when I came in two thousand, I came
- 17:30Speaker 1: in nineteen ninety ninety one. They said some of the
- 17:33Speaker 1: prisons said rehabilitation centers, but they removed that when they
- 17:37Speaker 1: remove education, Like they don't offer education no more. Like
- 17:40Speaker 1: you can't get your GD in jail anymore. No, you
- 17:42Speaker 1: can get the GED. That's the only thing you can get.
- 17:44Speaker 1: They used to offer higher education, you can go to
- 17:47Speaker 1: college and get your college course. You can't do none
- 17:49Speaker 1: that now. The only thing they offer is things that's
- 17:50Speaker 1: conducive to making money for the prison. So the most
- 17:53Speaker 1: the thing that makes the most money for California prisons
- 17:56Speaker 1: optical and you can only get that at San Diego
- 17:58Speaker 1: and one other place. So if you get there, you
- 18:02Speaker 1: can make enough money to sent home. That's crazy. Well,
- 18:04Speaker 1: let's get back to it. So Sugar night, you got out,
- 18:06Speaker 1: you know four? How did you and Sugar that? Because
- 18:09Speaker 1: Corrupt was that death road? Okay, So but naturally you're
- 18:14Speaker 1: out Corrupt looking out for you, because you know you
- 18:16Speaker 1: looked out for him however many years ago. And then
- 18:19Speaker 1: Corrupt is there. I come home. Of course I got
- 18:22Speaker 1: go home. I'm gonna mess with Corrupt. And then me
- 18:25Speaker 1: and Sugar already been talking since my little brother had
- 18:28Speaker 1: passed before that, and so natural when I come home,
- 18:31Speaker 1: I messed with him. And I didn't want to be
- 18:34Speaker 1: because it was such a it was such a talk
- 18:36Speaker 1: with you know, big Us coming on, the big crypt
- 18:38Speaker 1: is coming home and all this. So I wasn't on that.
- 18:42Speaker 1: That's not where I've been, you know, Like I didn't
- 18:45Speaker 1: want to come home and say I'm gonna enhance the
- 18:48Speaker 1: Crypt card. And now I didn't want to come home
- 18:50Speaker 1: and do that. I want to come home and be
- 18:52Speaker 1: a Muslim and be a man and be somebody who
- 18:55Speaker 1: could be conducive to us as a people to move forward.
- 18:58Speaker 1: And the mood is jonder, and so I felt me
- 19:01Speaker 1: dealing with Sug would be stronger and making making us
- 19:06Speaker 1: unify then going against because I already had a relationship.
- 19:09Speaker 1: My homeboys was with. My homeboys were with My homeboys
- 19:15Speaker 1: were already with Snooping Me, Big d was Big Dnning
- 19:18Speaker 1: was already with Snoop. So I just needed to go
- 19:22Speaker 1: and establish a relationship for all of us to be together.
- 19:27Speaker 1: And so when I did that, Yeah that's Dwan. He
- 19:32Speaker 1: was called them all for me. And so when I
- 19:35Speaker 1: did that, I wanted my sons to see that you
- 19:38Speaker 1: don't have no enemies as bloods, you know what I mean.
- 19:42Speaker 1: And it was important for me to bring bloods and
- 19:45Speaker 1: everybody around my sons and around my community so they
- 19:48Speaker 1: can see we could be unified. And that was the
- 19:51Speaker 1: key to what I've always been doing. I've always pushed
- 19:54Speaker 1: that before you know, moving, you know what I mean.
- 19:58Speaker 1: So Sugar was important to me being able to move
- 20:01Speaker 1: as a man and being able to show the people
- 20:03Speaker 1: that I'm not on no cripping blood shit, right And
- 20:07Speaker 1: what you said, like when you got out, you were
- 20:08Speaker 1: trying to be on some like community shit, and I
- 20:11Speaker 1: think you've done a good job of that. Man. It's
- 20:13Speaker 1: crazy because I feel like you were probably in jail
- 20:17Speaker 1: for probably at least the beginning or peak of when
- 20:21Speaker 1: the gang bang culture became like commercial as far as
- 20:26Speaker 1: like I was in a shoot, Like do you remember
- 20:29Speaker 1: there was like a Bloods and Crypts album. I don't
- 20:31Speaker 1: even remember that I was. It was like a real
- 20:34Speaker 1: thing where it was like it was really like used
- 20:38Speaker 1: to like propel record sales and it became second nature.
- 20:43Speaker 1: So like you're in jail and you're like, are you
- 20:46Speaker 1: like paying attention to how the shit is blowing up?
- 20:50Speaker 1: I did. I was watching because I was watching the
- 20:53Speaker 1: culture growth. Yeah. And it's funny because before the East
- 20:59Speaker 1: Coast West Coach Beef, you know it was it was
- 21:03Speaker 1: it was the Cripson Blood trying to the Christon Blood
- 21:06Speaker 1: album battle Cat and on them. And then at the
- 21:10Speaker 1: time there uh my little brother because used to have
- 21:14Speaker 1: to get your music sent in from the streets back then,
- 21:18Speaker 1: and my little brother sent me Biggie Smalls and Woo
- 21:22Speaker 1: Tang Clan oh Wow, and then he sent me all
- 21:25Speaker 1: the other stuff that I wanted. So I was like,
- 21:27Speaker 1: what the hell is biggie? You know what I'm saying.
- 21:29Speaker 1: And I always was tripping off the album cover because
- 21:31Speaker 1: my little brother got a picture like that baby dark
- 21:35Speaker 1: skinned it all. I'm like, da ain't got the same,
- 21:37Speaker 1: but so I had to. I had the CD. I
- 21:39Speaker 1: never listened to the CD. I never listened to Biggie
- 21:42Speaker 1: and I never listened to Erin. And then we went
- 21:46Speaker 1: on lockdown. So my homeboy, who knew about them, who
- 21:50Speaker 1: had just came to jail, he had the CDs. He
- 21:52Speaker 1: was finna get rolled up, he was transferring, so he
- 21:54Speaker 1: gave me the CNS back. We on lockdown, and I
- 21:57Speaker 1: slapped in Woo Tang Clan and that shit went crazy,
- 22:02Speaker 1: and so it was like oooh, thank cleaning. Ain't nothing
- 22:04Speaker 1: the fuck, And I was like damn, I slipped up
- 22:07Speaker 1: these dudes and the cream, but we was on lockdown,
- 22:09Speaker 1: so it's no movement. Then I'm like, man, I slapped
- 22:11Speaker 1: in Biggie and I'm like this shit hard at fuck.
- 22:15Speaker 1: And that was like my introduction to Biggie. I was Cali.
- 22:20Speaker 1: I was at Calipat State Prison, and I was like, damn,
- 22:24Speaker 1: the East Coast is back home because the West had
- 22:27Speaker 1: had it, had it for so long. It's like the
- 22:29Speaker 1: chronic yeah yeah, And let me tell you, man, it's
- 22:32Speaker 1: crazy because people always asking me how long I've been
- 22:34Speaker 1: in music. I was fucking music. I remember I pushed
- 22:37Speaker 1: the ghetto boys in La, Okay, for anybody else read
- 22:41Speaker 1: these Nikes. I was in Minnesota selling dope and one
- 22:46Speaker 1: of my homeboys, one of my homeboys from Minnesota, it
- 22:51Speaker 1: gave me the tape. No. I was listening to his
- 22:53Speaker 1: tape and then I was We was in the car
- 22:56Speaker 1: and I was tripping off. They was talking about read
- 22:57Speaker 1: these Nikes, because that's all I used to wear was
- 22:59Speaker 1: Nikes back you remember, wasn't number like Nike, Adidas and Converse,
- 23:04Speaker 1: and they were something. I read these Nikes. No got
- 23:06Speaker 1: hooked on ghetto boys. I went home and I dubbed.
- 23:08Speaker 1: I went there back and dubbed the tapes. That's what
- 23:10Speaker 1: I used to I came back to LA and I
- 23:13Speaker 1: told all the homies, man, the ghetto boys, these niggas
- 23:16Speaker 1: is hard. They blew up from there, you know what
- 23:19Speaker 1: I mean? Because our music, if you remember, if you
- 23:23Speaker 1: remember back then, we was like game banging to R
- 23:26Speaker 1: and B music. Yeah, it was like pop music to Prince. Yeah.
- 23:30Speaker 1: And don't even think like even like LA rap back then,
- 23:32Speaker 1: like even like if you think before n w A,
- 23:35Speaker 1: it was like iced tea. Yeah, it was in the morning. Yeah,
- 23:40Speaker 1: it was you know, like Colors, Yeah, Colors was crazy. Yeah. No,
- 23:46Speaker 1: So I want to just ask you, Okay, So the
- 23:50Speaker 1: perception I think from the outside looking in is like
- 23:54Speaker 1: it would be a good idea if you come to
- 23:58Speaker 1: LA to maybe tap been with Big U or to
- 24:01Speaker 1: maybe check in with Big U. Is that something that
- 24:04Speaker 1: is maybe a bit amplified, because I feel I know
- 24:09Speaker 1: that that's not the case, but I feel like that
- 24:11Speaker 1: there is like you know, or at least some sort
- 24:13Speaker 1: of it's hella amplified. But I feel like certain people
- 24:19Speaker 1: would be good too, you know what I mean, Like,
- 24:22Speaker 1: especially if you're from certain genres. I think I think
- 24:25Speaker 1: when you from certain genres, you want to check in
- 24:27Speaker 1: with that genre because well I get the question all
- 24:31Speaker 1: the time, and like, well, the influence well, unfortunately LA
- 24:35Speaker 1: is influenced by games, you know what I mean. So
- 24:39Speaker 1: if it's certain people you need to check in with
- 24:42Speaker 1: YG whack one hundred whacko. If it's certain people need
- 24:45Speaker 1: to check in with Big U. You need to check
- 24:47Speaker 1: in with Tone, you need to check it with Magic,
- 24:49Speaker 1: you need to check in with the Twins to make
- 24:51Speaker 1: your gangster. You need to check in with certain people
- 24:54Speaker 1: who're gonna help, you know, how to move in different ways.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Who gonna let you know, like you know, like these dudes,
- 25:01Speaker 1: what you're claiming and what you affiliated with. They not
- 25:06Speaker 1: our enemies at this time, but they could be our
- 25:08Speaker 1: enemies in a day's noticing. We don't even know it,
- 25:11Speaker 1: but we know how to move around, you know what
- 25:13Speaker 1: I mean. So it's important for me to have a
- 25:15Speaker 1: relationship with dudes from every set, from a Tray's, bloods, gangsters,
- 25:19Speaker 1: all of that, because we want to show respect. And
- 25:23Speaker 1: I feel like people from all the sets give me
- 25:28Speaker 1: respect because they see my history, they see my work ethic,
- 25:32Speaker 1: they see that I've never if my home was is wrong,
- 25:34Speaker 1: I'm gonna say my homeway wrong. I'm not gonna side
- 25:37Speaker 1: with my homeway right or wrong, pied point blank. I
- 25:39Speaker 1: didn't do them. I don't do it my kids. I
- 25:41Speaker 1: teach my kids do right wrong, you know. But I'm
- 25:43Speaker 1: going to support truth and in prison and in thirteen years,
- 25:49Speaker 1: the dudes I did time with can come home and
- 25:52Speaker 1: vouch for that. You know what I'm like, No, whatever
- 25:54Speaker 1: he said was, he kept his word. So that's what
- 25:57Speaker 1: I think gets me strength in LA And the whole
- 26:00Speaker 1: time I was with should, we never had one conflict
- 26:04Speaker 1: because I just didn't allow it, you know what I mean,
- 26:06Speaker 1: not that I could controlling, but you know, sometimes you
- 26:09Speaker 1: gotta know how to appeal to a beast, you know
- 26:10Speaker 1: what I mean, Like, bro, this, we don't need this.
- 26:13Speaker 1: I would always say, like, you know, me and Heady
- 26:15Speaker 1: talks about this, like if if if you're somebody who's
- 26:19Speaker 1: coming to LA and you come from that background, from
- 26:23Speaker 1: wherever you're from, it's probably a good idea. Now maybe
- 26:25Speaker 1: if you're like maybe if you're like you know, post
- 26:28Speaker 1: Malone or R and B singer or somebody, you know
- 26:30Speaker 1: you're gonna get checked too. Post Malone will get checked. Two.
- 26:32Speaker 1: I've been in there with post I've been in I've
- 26:34Speaker 1: been in rooms with post. That was just an example.
- 26:36Speaker 1: By the way, I didn't know that he got checked
- 26:37Speaker 1: by tell the story. I mean, it wasn't about me.
- 26:40Speaker 1: I was just in the room when some dudes wanted
- 26:43Speaker 1: to get on post Malone and it was recording, and
- 26:49Speaker 1: I happened to New Noice know the people, and we
- 26:54Speaker 1: was coming in me and Steve was doing something and
- 26:56Speaker 1: we was leaving out. It was my first time ever
- 26:58Speaker 1: meeting him. And sometimes people don't know you could get
- 27:01Speaker 1: I could squash shit and don't even know and don't
- 27:04Speaker 1: even say nothing because it just was the timing, Like oh,
- 27:07Speaker 1: you know what I mean, because that's just the mentality
- 27:10Speaker 1: of people. Man Like it's never gonna change because it's
- 27:14Speaker 1: gonna always be the halves. There's always to have nots.
- 27:17Speaker 1: And it ain't even game related, you understand what I'm saying,
- 27:21Speaker 1: because you got game members doing something to their own
- 27:23Speaker 1: gangs in the name of money. So it's not all
- 27:26Speaker 1: and it's all. And they asked me the question about
- 27:31Speaker 1: hip hop and the gangs in hip hop, where there's
- 27:34Speaker 1: always been gangs in music, we just don't we just
- 27:38Speaker 1: see it now because our music is the number one
- 27:40Speaker 1: giohnt you think back in the day like Frank Sinatra
- 27:42Speaker 1: had like, yeah, we just have mafia tis yeah, mafia orders. Right,
- 27:48Speaker 1: this is what it is because anybody who's trying to
- 27:52Speaker 1: make money, the easiest way to get in it is
- 27:54Speaker 1: in this music. Like, if you got money, you want
- 27:56Speaker 1: to put it somewhere, like we don't have no other outlets.
- 27:58Speaker 1: That's what this documentary talks about. Hip Hop on Cover
- 28:01Speaker 1: talks about when we were hustling and then we eventually
- 28:07Speaker 1: took that money to get into something, to try to
- 28:09Speaker 1: do something positive. You know, you might have a cousin
- 28:11Speaker 1: or auntie. I'm a cousin or uncle, a friend who
- 28:13Speaker 1: wants to do music. Okay, what in these studio time
- 28:16Speaker 1: I got you? You know, and then it starts going
- 28:20Speaker 1: past that. You start seeing the little jade, You start
- 28:22Speaker 1: seeing the hereos, start seeing the dudes making it, making it.
- 28:25Speaker 1: And that's what hip hop n told is it talks
- 28:28Speaker 1: about us and our struggles in music. You don't hear
- 28:33Speaker 1: about us. It's not geared towards the artists. It's geared
- 28:39Speaker 1: towards the people behind the artists. Like when I met you,
- 28:42Speaker 1: Like for instance, if I had a new artist right now,
- 28:45Speaker 1: like with OSBS, my group OSBS Criticality, I introduced them
- 28:49Speaker 1: and told them I called you to do an interview
- 28:51Speaker 1: with them. I heard you was coming here. That's hip
- 28:54Speaker 1: hop on cover. That's that's why they called us the
- 28:56Speaker 1: power brokers because we already had a relationships when you
- 28:59Speaker 1: first met Nipsey. Nipsey met you through Steve and me.
- 29:05Speaker 1: He didn't have that relationship with you. He couldn't have
- 29:07Speaker 1: called you. And what people don't understand is you need
- 29:10Speaker 1: those power brokers to help introduce you two people, and
- 29:14Speaker 1: then those power brokers have to have a trust in
- 29:17Speaker 1: a relationship that comes from somebody else. When I met
- 29:20Speaker 1: Phairy Phil, I don't talk about them, it's all now.
- 29:24Speaker 1: And I met Pheiry Fail. I met Phiry Phil and
- 29:26Speaker 1: him and Sure was having an altercation at at Male's Diner,
- 29:33Speaker 1: and I seen everybody going crazy and Sugar was coming
- 29:37Speaker 1: and Pelly Fail was sitting in the restaurant and so me,
- 29:40Speaker 1: just not wanting to know bullshit, I go in. I'm like,
- 29:42Speaker 1: I'm asking Pail like I don't know. I don't even
- 29:45Speaker 1: know who he is at all. I have no clue
- 29:48Speaker 1: he was, And I'm like, bro, what's up with you? Man?
- 29:50Speaker 1: Like nothing? Like like he was Sugar. I'm like I
- 29:53Speaker 1: am And then he's like, man, what's happening. I'm like,
- 29:56Speaker 1: I ain't nothing to help. I'm trying to ask you
- 29:57Speaker 1: what's having Like Denny, I said, so, who are you?
- 30:00Speaker 1: He tell me on fairly Phil, And I'm like, SOI
- 30:02Speaker 1: what's your problem with Sugar? Are he mad at me
- 30:04Speaker 1: because DJ Quick dissed him on my show? I said,
- 30:07Speaker 1: you got a radio show? Like yeah, So I'm like,
- 30:09Speaker 1: I don't make no sense. So I go outside. I
- 30:11Speaker 1: talked to Sugar. I said, bro, why you donna do that?
- 30:13Speaker 1: And then he tell me, hold, I'm saying right like
- 30:17Speaker 1: it's it ain't fairly for I tell Phil, man gonna
- 30:21Speaker 1: just leave, feel like I'm not leaving. I gotta talk
- 30:24Speaker 1: to this dude. Man. Yeah, like I don't like, I
- 30:26Speaker 1: don't want to walk out. See what happens. No, no,
- 30:29Speaker 1: he wasn't saying and that he was saying he didn't
- 30:31Speaker 1: want to leave without talking to Shug because he was like, man,
- 30:34Speaker 1: I ain't did nothing to him. Now, I was like,
- 30:36Speaker 1: I was honorable to me, like I got to resolve it. Yes,
- 30:40Speaker 1: I ain't leaving. I'm gonna talk to the dude. And
- 30:42Speaker 1: I said, he's sure, baddy, but he kept it one hundred.
- 30:45Speaker 1: So now moving right along, we signed Nipsey I get
- 30:49Speaker 1: it fairly fail and I'm like, bro, I got a
- 30:51Speaker 1: new artist. Can you play the song? And that's how
- 30:55Speaker 1: you that those are relationships. You see what I'm saying.
- 30:58Speaker 1: He played bullets, Ain't got no name. He played another
- 31:00Speaker 1: couple of songs for me, then he played with how
- 31:02Speaker 1: We Roll? He played this and then so it's me
- 31:06Speaker 1: taking my relationships and connections with with my years in
- 31:11Speaker 1: this industry and putting it on another artist to become
- 31:15Speaker 1: what he becomes. And you've got artists that come up sixteen, seventeen,
- 31:18Speaker 1: eighteen years old. They don't know who to talk to,
- 31:21Speaker 1: they don't know who to be friends with, they don't
- 31:23Speaker 1: know none of this stuff, you know what I mean.
- 31:25Speaker 1: And I had little homies who didn't even want to
- 31:27Speaker 1: do songs with bloods and I'm like, nah, bro, you
- 31:30Speaker 1: gotta do the song. That's crazy. Yeah, now you I
- 31:33Speaker 1: mean you think back, just like certain artists that like
- 31:35Speaker 1: You're like, man, they didn't like, they didn't work together.
- 31:38Speaker 1: It was just because of some politics shits. Not even
- 31:41Speaker 1: necessarily they had any personal issues. It was just there
- 31:44Speaker 1: were some politics involved. But and so this documentary, even
- 31:48Speaker 1: when you go on to Dead you see your debt
- 31:50Speaker 1: deal with Frinch Montana, Nicki Mina's guccu chin. But what
- 31:55Speaker 1: does she have to do to get them to these
- 31:59Speaker 1: levels to get what did she have to go through
- 32:00Speaker 1: to be able to you know what I'm saying? Like
- 32:04Speaker 1: she had a history that that affirmed who she was
- 32:08Speaker 1: to other people. I have a history from the streets
- 32:11Speaker 1: that affirmed who I was, and people want to say
- 32:14Speaker 1: it's about bullying when it really isn't. It didn't have
- 32:17Speaker 1: shit to do with bully, and they had shit to
- 32:18Speaker 1: be people meeting me and then them saying, oh, he
- 32:21Speaker 1: ain't the bully people think he is. He ain't the
- 32:23Speaker 1: bully people making out. I've come to different people with
- 32:27Speaker 1: songs and they told me that that ain't gonna work.
- 32:31Speaker 1: I'm out the door. Let me go find another one.
- 32:33Speaker 1: I've asked you all to do stuff, and if it
- 32:36Speaker 1: don't work, it don't work. I'm never beating the door down.
- 32:39Speaker 1: I've never beat you all door down. I'll do this,
- 32:41Speaker 1: but but if you hear it, that's my reputation, Like
- 32:45Speaker 1: he's the bully, He's this, he's that, and I'm like,
- 32:48Speaker 1: fuck it, I can't beat it, so I'm gonna join it.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Like I guess I am the bully. He talked about
- 32:53Speaker 1: signing Nipsey. I mean, obviously, aside from being from the
- 32:56Speaker 1: same area, how did you guys, like, how did that
- 32:58Speaker 1: end up? You know happening? And you told the story
- 33:02Speaker 1: a lot before, so just kind of give us a
- 33:04Speaker 1: quick you know, yeah, my nephew TD, I was looking
- 33:08Speaker 1: for artists. TD told me to go get nipped. I
- 33:11Speaker 1: wasn't seek Nipped out out of all the people he
- 33:13Speaker 1: had already I already been interviewing and talking to. And
- 33:16Speaker 1: he was the signing light. He was the diamond in
- 33:21Speaker 1: the pilor whatever. It was a diamond. Let me respect
- 33:24Speaker 1: to my other homies. He was a diamond in a
- 33:26Speaker 1: pile of other diamonds. But he just he just it
- 33:29Speaker 1: was a bigger diamond. He was, Yeah, he was. And
- 33:33Speaker 1: then he was the VVS VS. Yeah, you know what
- 33:36Speaker 1: I'm saying. And we had made a couple of moves
- 33:40Speaker 1: and was trying to move through a couple of doors,
- 33:42Speaker 1: and I vastly found out that I couldn't go through
- 33:45Speaker 1: these doors. So I when I went and got Steve Lobel,
- 33:49Speaker 1: and I went and got Steve that Steve hit the music.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Steve felt the same way I felt about the music,
- 33:55Speaker 1: and I was like boom. So I signed Nitzy to
- 33:58Speaker 1: Unique Music, to my to Aria Miss Astrodome, to my
- 34:02Speaker 1: to my label, to Munique Music. And then Steve was
- 34:06Speaker 1: tempercent management and I was tempersent. Masic didn't make no
- 34:08Speaker 1: senseence to go get another manager, and so we started
- 34:11Speaker 1: pushing on that. So I signed him to. It was
- 34:14Speaker 1: signed to a ten year production contract which started in
- 34:17Speaker 1: two thousand and nine, which was Ian twenty nineteen. Crazy hello,
- 34:23Speaker 1: But I ain't tripping off of that because you know
- 34:26Speaker 1: it is what it is. But I do have that,
- 34:28Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Wait, so you're your deal
- 34:30Speaker 1: with Nipsey was ten years, ten years, a ten ten year,
- 34:34Speaker 1: twenty five percent of publisher to air miss Astronout. Oh
- 34:37Speaker 1: wow so O nine twenty nineteen nineteen. So technically Victory
- 34:44Speaker 1: lap hello, okay, wow wow yeah, help me okay, Because
- 34:51Speaker 1: when I first met nip was I met him in
- 34:52Speaker 1: O nine. Actually this was when he was on the
- 34:54Speaker 1: Lax Tour. We were on the Lax Tour with the
- 34:57Speaker 1: game and I think James, I sent you a song
- 35:00Speaker 1: before well I became You know who put me on
- 35:02Speaker 1: the nip is Charlemagne Man Charlemagne when he was doing
- 35:06Speaker 1: radio on Philly and he was tweeting about bullet Ain't
- 35:09Speaker 1: got no name Volume one. I believe I remember DM
- 35:13Speaker 1: and Charlemagne at the time, and that's who originally kind
- 35:16Speaker 1: of like I saw his show and I was seeing
- 35:17Speaker 1: his ship on the blogs like the now Rights and
- 35:20Speaker 1: two Dope Boys of the world. That was late. You
- 35:22Speaker 1: already met him before that. I met him in O nine. Yeah,
- 35:25Speaker 1: you had already met him before that because he we
- 35:27Speaker 1: didn't officially finished the deal assigning him to it, but
- 35:31Speaker 1: he had some ship out there, like on the online
- 35:33Speaker 1: he didn't. He didn't have nothing. Nothing. He didn't even
- 35:36Speaker 1: know how to he didn't even know how to upload
- 35:38Speaker 1: the music yet. You gotta remember, because what if I
- 35:40Speaker 1: met him, If I met him in O nine, so
- 35:41Speaker 1: that was the la nothing he had. He was on
- 35:45Speaker 1: tour with nothing out. No. He just trying to tell
- 35:47Speaker 1: you before we did the game tour. Yeah, we had
- 35:51Speaker 1: already been messing with nip O seven, right, but I
- 35:55Speaker 1: didn't meet him until they got tour. Yeah, because even
- 35:57Speaker 1: before the game tour, he had the song with with
- 36:01Speaker 1: the Tupac song. Okay, yeah, on what was the Pox Life?
- 36:07Speaker 1: He had Pox Life. I got Fairy to put that
- 36:09Speaker 1: on the radio. That song started picking up all around
- 36:12Speaker 1: the country and and Pox's mother had it pulled because
- 36:17Speaker 1: that wasn't the single they wanted to go. They had Nipsey.
- 36:22Speaker 1: They had Nipsey Pack and Light Skinny with the braids
- 36:26Speaker 1: from the East Side, Nocturnal No No, No, no, I
- 36:31Speaker 1: don't know Chill Beer man. I gotta call him Chill
- 36:35Speaker 1: Beer but anyway, he gonna do all the talk about.
- 36:38Speaker 1: But yeah, that song went viral, but even before that,
- 36:41Speaker 1: we could just look it up actually, because yeah it
- 36:43Speaker 1: was it was Nipsey Tupac and I can't think his name.
- 36:49Speaker 1: He's central. He always got central, like Crenshaw on his
- 36:53Speaker 1: on his chest. I can't think his name. But anyway,
- 36:57Speaker 1: that song was out. And then even before that, before
- 37:00Speaker 1: we even did the tooth called seven International was the
- 37:03Speaker 1: name of the song. It was Young Dred the Truth,
- 37:06Speaker 1: Young dreda Truth. Now look at when that came out,
- 37:10Speaker 1: this was, well, this is on YouTube, so hold on,
- 37:15Speaker 1: let me look it up. Yeah, but you gotta remember
- 37:18Speaker 1: before that we did I did him with the song
- 37:20Speaker 1: with with Snoop oh six oh six. Yeah, and that
- 37:25Speaker 1: wasn't even the first song we did Snoops. I did
- 37:29Speaker 1: him with Snoop and Nip the Snoop Gangster Life. Yeah. See,
- 37:35Speaker 1: I didn't really start. I think the first project that
- 37:37Speaker 1: I really tapped in was Bulletain Got No Name, the
- 37:40Speaker 1: first one, and then like I really became a fan
- 37:43Speaker 1: of the second one. I think he had the roller
- 37:45Speaker 1: windows up. Shit was so hard. But that was later.
- 37:47Speaker 1: That was like twenty ten, I think, yeah, oh that
- 37:49Speaker 1: was late. Yeah, yeah, that was late. But I met
- 37:51Speaker 1: him in the old nine. He came on my show.
- 37:52Speaker 1: We did an interview, he freestyled and Steve was there,
- 37:55Speaker 1: and uh no, you met him before that. I don't remember.
- 37:58Speaker 1: Then we said you music on him before that when
- 38:00Speaker 1: he was in Arizona guy, because I was like, we
- 38:03Speaker 1: was like, you was popping I there. Yeah, I ain't
- 38:08Speaker 1: getting no, that's facts, but no, but I was. I
- 38:11Speaker 1: was gonna yo. So a ten year contract, that's crazy,
- 38:14Speaker 1: right when you think of it, right, I was back then,
- 38:17Speaker 1: but you yeah, but let me tell you like this,
- 38:21Speaker 1: it should never change. And this is the reason why.
- 38:24Speaker 1: Because it's one thing to be management, it is one
- 38:27Speaker 1: thing to be production. If I'm your production company, you
- 38:30Speaker 1: come to me as a kid and you have nothing,
- 38:32Speaker 1: and I create your name, and I create you and
- 38:35Speaker 1: help to create you, give you what you want. How
- 38:38Speaker 1: is there a number on how long I can make
- 38:40Speaker 1: money off of this? Right? Because if I don't do that,
- 38:46Speaker 1: what are you gonna do? Then? How what are you
- 38:47Speaker 1: gonna do? Because you gotta remember before a nip came
- 38:51Speaker 1: to me. He had already him and his brother had
- 38:53Speaker 1: already had a deal where they had paid I can't
- 38:55Speaker 1: remember the do to distribute their music. He never did
- 38:58Speaker 1: it that came back. I do think that there's a
- 39:03Speaker 1: middle ground there because I always you'll notice artists will
- 39:07Speaker 1: pop and the people who who made it happen for
- 39:10Speaker 1: them sometimes get left behind. You know, Like that's what
- 39:13Speaker 1: I'm saying. That happened with Cardi B. You know, there
- 39:15Speaker 1: was a guy named Shaft who really blue her make
- 39:18Speaker 1: the stallion exactly right. It's like, Yo, you signed the paperwork,
- 39:22Speaker 1: and what would have happened if these people didn't believe
- 39:24Speaker 1: in you? When they believed in you, you know what
- 39:26Speaker 1: I'm saying. So I only eat for so long and
- 39:28Speaker 1: then you go on to be forever. I put in
- 39:30Speaker 1: the grant work and now now that it's hot, I mean,
- 39:33Speaker 1: I mean it's both ways. It's I mean, you know,
- 39:35Speaker 1: like and you'll say ten years, well, god damn it,
- 39:37Speaker 1: Like I'm only puposed to eat for ten years. But
- 39:39Speaker 1: guess when you make it? You really most people don't
- 39:42Speaker 1: make it to after five six years. Yeah, the first
- 39:45Speaker 1: the first four or five years is no money coming in.
- 39:47Speaker 1: It's all spending, it's all money going out exactly. Yeah,
- 39:50Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Remember how many people was
- 39:51Speaker 1: grinding before that, you know? And then so so example,
- 39:56Speaker 1: like just say, nephew, fncy fence it. When I first
- 40:00Speaker 1: god with Ni it was in the hood. He had
- 40:02Speaker 1: already been uh to drain them. You've already been to
- 40:06Speaker 1: different people here trying to go on he was. They
- 40:08Speaker 1: was knocking him down because his music was too violent.
- 40:11Speaker 1: He was a crip and uh uh he looked like Snoop.
- 40:15Speaker 1: So that was like, oh, it ain't gonna work. You
- 40:16Speaker 1: just wanna Snoop. And so when I come, I'm like, okay,
- 40:20Speaker 1: I'm gonna take me and we re gonna recook this.
- 40:22Speaker 1: You understand what I'm saying. So now it's the same
- 40:27Speaker 1: way with everybody in this documentary. Everybody in the documentary
- 40:31Speaker 1: had the same exact thing cooking. Somebody being there, putting
- 40:36Speaker 1: their money behind them, putting their name behind them, saying
- 40:39Speaker 1: this is the one, and then boom. You know what
- 40:42Speaker 1: I'm saying, be cause you don't just get to walk
- 40:45Speaker 1: through the door and say I'm here. Now I'm hearing that, right,
- 40:50Speaker 1: you know what I mean? How many people really did
- 40:52Speaker 1: that Neil naz X Soldier boy, a couple of people.
- 40:56Speaker 1: The Internet is kind of changed. I think the Internet's
- 40:59Speaker 1: is the variable that's made made it possible for just
- 41:02Speaker 1: some ship to go viral. And now you can't even
- 41:04Speaker 1: do that now because now there's so many people paying
- 41:07Speaker 1: to get fired me you on YouTube and paying to
- 41:10Speaker 1: get this Spotify. Now you can't you can't pay. You
- 41:13Speaker 1: can't even tell it something is really organic. That's some
- 41:16Speaker 1: real shit, you know what I'm saying. So it's a
- 41:20Speaker 1: lot of it as optics. It's like, yo, for somebody,
- 41:22Speaker 1: get me serious. Let's you know, we got to make
- 41:24Speaker 1: sure the numbers on Spotify. I gotta have someone googles
- 41:27Speaker 1: my shit on Spotify. It's gotta be a certain number
- 41:29Speaker 1: of monthly listeners. And now they give you a kit. Okay,
- 41:32Speaker 1: if you pay fifteen hundred, you'll get one thousand view
- 41:36Speaker 1: for sure. You get this, you get that, you get this.
- 41:38Speaker 1: But what about me being able to say look, kid,
- 41:42Speaker 1: you do interviewing me, being able to say black? You
- 41:44Speaker 1: do interviewing me being able to say so sudden such
- 41:47Speaker 1: getting you know what I mean? But what's the value
- 41:49Speaker 1: on that? Oh? The value is don't only get to
- 41:51Speaker 1: ride for so long, No bro, I don't think that's
- 41:55Speaker 1: business me myself. So I kind of moved out of
- 41:58Speaker 1: that and when to doing I saw, like I said,
- 42:02Speaker 1: when I stopped doing NI, I started managing ving Rains,
- 42:05Speaker 1: I managed being Rains, and I started doing shows. So
- 42:08Speaker 1: it made me open up to dealing with more artists.
- 42:12Speaker 1: And I wasn't dealing with one artist no more. I
- 42:14Speaker 1: was doing shows. I was making more money doing shows
- 42:16Speaker 1: because I hadn't made not one down with it. Wow,
- 42:18Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. I was. I was booking shows,
- 42:21Speaker 1: booking talent coming in, and I'm making fifteen twenty thousand
- 42:26Speaker 1: dollars when an artist range No Van, I was making
- 42:29Speaker 1: way more. Only you're talking about you were talking about
- 42:32Speaker 1: just booking concerts. Booking concerts like putting the bread behind
- 42:34Speaker 1: brings some people out, doing the promotion my own concerts,
- 42:36Speaker 1: getting numbers I might have. I might hireh at whiz like, whiz,
- 42:40Speaker 1: what's your number for booking? And then look, I'm gonna
- 42:42Speaker 1: put ten thousand on it, or what's your number for this?
- 42:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna put five thousand on it, And he like, okay,
- 42:47Speaker 1: if you get my number up that high. And so
- 42:49Speaker 1: what people did never understand is I never cut an
- 42:51Speaker 1: artist number ever. I never cut an artist number for nothing.
- 42:56Speaker 1: Only for radio shows, because radios you do different. What's different.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Every artist I ever met and they ever did business
- 43:03Speaker 1: with me, they give me a number, and I'm tending
- 43:06Speaker 1: what their number is. I'm gonna get the deal higher
- 43:08Speaker 1: than that because I know the promoters who are gonna
- 43:10Speaker 1: really pay. And that's the relationship you want with Big U,
- 43:13Speaker 1: because I'm gonna make sure you get paid your money.
- 43:16Speaker 1: When when when the Migos came, I had the Amigos
- 43:19Speaker 1: book for three shows at fifteen thousand apiece. Danny Glover
- 43:26Speaker 1: goes on the Grammys and they asked him what is
- 43:29Speaker 1: he listening to He says, I'm listening to them me
- 43:33Speaker 1: bad and Booze. Yep, it was over after that, and yep,
- 43:37Speaker 1: the number one from fifteen thousand to one hundred. Yeah,
- 43:40Speaker 1: I remember I was trying to book them at that time. Yeah,
- 43:43Speaker 1: I'm aware, but I was the only one who who
- 43:45Speaker 1: they was let booking them because I had a relationship
- 43:47Speaker 1: with him through Atlanta. From Atlanta, you know what I mean. So,
- 43:51Speaker 1: and that's what that's what that's what you know. We
- 43:54Speaker 1: do as power brokers in this in this industry. It
- 43:56Speaker 1: ain't it ain't violence, It ain't you know, it ain't
- 43:59Speaker 1: the bullshit. But I might know the promoter you don't
- 44:01Speaker 1: want to deal with. I might know the promoter who
- 44:04Speaker 1: ain't gonna pay you. I might know. Look, you don't
- 44:07Speaker 1: want to charge radio. You want to do this? No,
- 44:11Speaker 1: you don't want to take thirty of your homeboys to
- 44:13Speaker 1: this concert and backstage and y'all risk it and getting
- 44:16Speaker 1: into with somebody. A AG, you get into it. AG.
- 44:19Speaker 1: You can't play no concerts around here. You're fucked. That's
- 44:22Speaker 1: what we do. You know, your initial deal with Nipsey
- 44:25Speaker 1: was ten years and how sometimes artists You know, that
- 44:31Speaker 1: sounds crazy, but if you really think about the position
- 44:34Speaker 1: that some the early people who get in on artists
- 44:37Speaker 1: it'll put them in, it seems fair because, like you
- 44:40Speaker 1: were saying, the first four or five years, it really
- 44:44Speaker 1: ain't no money coming in, right, no money, it's all
- 44:46Speaker 1: your money going out. That's what the production company is. Facts.
- 44:50Speaker 1: So let me tell you the think about Nipsey. What
- 44:53Speaker 1: I like about Nipsey. It's not what we did to
- 44:56Speaker 1: help Nipsey to start Nipcy. It's what Nipsey continue to
- 45:01Speaker 1: do after we was gone. That's what separates Nipsey, you
- 45:06Speaker 1: know what I mean, Because we was all negative for
- 45:09Speaker 1: a run, you know what I'm saying. But bro, he
- 45:12Speaker 1: kept going. You know what I mean. I left. I
- 45:15Speaker 1: went to go do it was nip and Steve. If
- 45:18Speaker 1: you see I had left. I didn't get fired. I
- 45:20Speaker 1: never got fired. I left after my house got hit
- 45:24Speaker 1: while they was on tour on the Las tour, and
- 45:26Speaker 1: I left music, and I talk about in the documentary.
- 45:29Speaker 1: So nobody fired me. I left my own self and
- 45:33Speaker 1: I started just doing football and managing ving Rains, So
- 45:36Speaker 1: I was making I was making. It was no money
- 45:39Speaker 1: on the music, but I started making down at two
- 45:42Speaker 1: hundred some thousand dollars year just managing ving Rains right
- 45:46Speaker 1: and just doing movies. And I was doing that, and
- 45:50Speaker 1: I started doing shows. I was dealing with every artist,
- 45:53Speaker 1: not just not just one artist, and so I was
- 45:58Speaker 1: successful doing that. And I continue up until the COVID
- 46:02Speaker 1: to make money booking shows and putting on concerts doing
- 46:05Speaker 1: so I do one concert a year for developing option
- 46:08Speaker 1: for the kids, and then all throughout the year I
- 46:10Speaker 1: do other concerts for myself. So I've always made money
- 46:15Speaker 1: and I made way more money than I ever did
- 46:19Speaker 1: dealing with one artist with respect to my kid. And
- 46:23Speaker 1: so that's what I've never had, not had a shortcoming.
- 46:29Speaker 1: All my cards are paid for, my house everything, you
- 46:31Speaker 1: know what I mean. So I done real well and
- 46:34Speaker 1: I've been doing well. I'm not dealing with one artist
- 46:38Speaker 1: until Nip called me after he signed with Atlantic and
- 46:42Speaker 1: he was like, uncle, signed with Atlantic, because that's right,
- 46:46Speaker 1: like we finna go. And his thing was like, we
- 46:48Speaker 1: got to do with Kendrick and Top did we gotta redo?
- 46:51Speaker 1: We gotta do it right, and he was asking me
- 46:54Speaker 1: to come back and manage it. I'm like, shid man,
- 46:56Speaker 1: I don't want to get back into rogoging Moore, you
- 46:57Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. He's like, nah, man, And I said,
- 47:00Speaker 1: so what's the situation. He's like, you still got the contract.
- 47:04Speaker 1: It ain't you gonna do what you want to do.
- 47:07Speaker 1: So I'm like, in your hands yeah yeah. So but
- 47:10Speaker 1: you know, we always had that love. Always supported him
- 47:12Speaker 1: in the hood, He always supported me in the hood.
- 47:14Speaker 1: And uh, even after we had the conflict. And so
- 47:18Speaker 1: when when he got ready to go to New York.
- 47:21Speaker 1: He bought me a ticket, well, he paid for me
- 47:22Speaker 1: a ticket to go to New York, and the ticket
- 47:25Speaker 1: was was me and Robin. The ticket was a problem
- 47:27Speaker 1: with that, so we ended up paying for ourselves. We
- 47:30Speaker 1: did the video in New York. We came back to
- 47:32Speaker 1: do some stuff out here and you can see him
- 47:34Speaker 1: all over the Victory Laugh were promoting it and but
- 47:39Speaker 1: we uh we uh. I was in the studio with
- 47:43Speaker 1: him for four days recording, just recording vocals talking about
- 47:49Speaker 1: him and I. He came about first time. He wanted
- 47:51Speaker 1: me to just tell them all the different stories and
- 47:53Speaker 1: stories in prison. So we did that and I got
- 47:55Speaker 1: when I posted up with me and he was in
- 47:57Speaker 1: the studio. We'd been there all night. And I did
- 48:00Speaker 1: all that right before Victory Lap because we was gonna
- 48:03Speaker 1: drop He's gonna drop Victy Lap. Then we was gonna
- 48:05Speaker 1: come right back with a mixtape on that, and so
- 48:08Speaker 1: you kind of narrated, Yeah, narrated the whole tape, like
- 48:12Speaker 1: just telling the hood stories and all that coming on.
- 48:15Speaker 1: And I really don't know where that is now. We
- 48:16Speaker 1: did at Paramount Studio. I ran into a kid who
- 48:19Speaker 1: did the recording for us, engineer. Yeah, engineer and what
- 48:22Speaker 1: happened to all that? Yeah, yeah, nicely they gaffed it
- 48:25Speaker 1: that the family and all I got it. So I
- 48:27Speaker 1: don't know what you know, they ever do it because
- 48:28Speaker 1: our relationships ain't what it is you're you mentioned the conflict.
- 48:32Speaker 1: There was obviously a widely known incident that had happened.
- 48:40Speaker 1: What was the when you guys did have your your
- 48:42Speaker 1: your outs before everything got reconciled. What was the root
- 48:46Speaker 1: of that? Well, when we first started, it goes back
- 48:49Speaker 1: to our recording equipment. I had a deal with Tiny Lister,
- 48:53Speaker 1: me Tiny Lister and a tiny list of friend he
- 48:55Speaker 1: was I can't out. I don't want to always so
- 48:58Speaker 1: bad with names members name he We did a deal
- 49:02Speaker 1: that we were gonna sign nip and he purchased the
- 49:05Speaker 1: equipment for us, and we was at sun Set we
- 49:11Speaker 1: presise equipment, and that's where Nipsey was staying with me.
- 49:14Speaker 1: Sammy went to jail and Nimsey was staying in my
- 49:18Speaker 1: condo in Harthoron and we had the equipment set up
- 49:23Speaker 1: there we was recording. So this is their equipment that
- 49:25Speaker 1: Nipsey had recorded on and was recording on the whole time.
- 49:29Speaker 1: And so once we had went our different ways. I
- 49:32Speaker 1: wanted to use the equipment when I decided to come
- 49:35Speaker 1: back because his other kid. But where Nipsey had the
- 49:38Speaker 1: equipment was in the downtown studio and you could only
- 49:42Speaker 1: get there at night, or you couldn't go in after
- 49:45Speaker 1: ten o'clock or they were penalized. I'm like, bro, let's
- 49:48Speaker 1: just move it on forty third because I had a
- 49:50Speaker 1: place in forty third, and he was cool with that.
- 49:53Speaker 1: But then it was conflict in the hood between him
- 49:57Speaker 1: and Summer, the other little and I can't go into that.
- 50:02Speaker 1: I won't ever go into that. Of course I don't
- 50:04Speaker 1: know it, so you know what I mean, if you
- 50:07Speaker 1: and so then it kind of like went bad and
- 50:11Speaker 1: he made a disc song. I asked him about it,
- 50:13Speaker 1: came and checked him about it. We went to go
- 50:16Speaker 1: pick him up. He was one hundred hood with it.
- 50:18Speaker 1: Nip always did him one hundred hood for sure, for sure.
- 50:21Speaker 1: And then the conflict happened. It was some some rougher rooms,
- 50:27Speaker 1: rugging rules, you know what I'm saying, And we all
- 50:30Speaker 1: went to jail. And that night nip didn't go to jail,
- 50:33Speaker 1: just me and his brother and a couple of homes
- 50:34Speaker 1: went to jail. We got out that night, Nip called me.
- 50:37Speaker 1: I met Nip the next night. I met Nip and
- 50:40Speaker 1: Sam the next night at the African Restaurant on Fairfax
- 50:45Speaker 1: the very next night, like like after after what happened
- 50:52Speaker 1: he got out, Sam after bellout two days later or
- 50:56Speaker 1: something like that. We all met before that. We met.
- 50:59Speaker 1: We met that night at at on Fairfax, the African
- 51:03Speaker 1: Restaurant because it was used to go and it was
- 51:06Speaker 1: basically like that. It was it. So it was just yeah,
- 51:09Speaker 1: because I mean, that hit hike all hip hop, all
- 51:12Speaker 1: the different, which it was supposed to do, you know
- 51:13Speaker 1: what I mean, and he ran with him. You're like,
- 51:16Speaker 1: I'm finna put some songs out. I'm man, go ahead, dude,
- 51:20Speaker 1: you're gonna do wow. Because if it was a conflict,
- 51:23Speaker 1: it would have never stopped there, right, you know what
- 51:26Speaker 1: I Like? The next day you guys win the eight. Yeah,
- 51:29Speaker 1: it couldn't have never been a continued conflict, right, How
- 51:32Speaker 1: could that we still here? It couldn't have never been
- 51:34Speaker 1: a continued conflict, or it would have been a continued conflict,
- 51:38Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. Like he's he's he's my baby.
- 51:42Speaker 1: He not even five generations under me. I'm I'm like
- 51:48Speaker 1: the beginning, and Nip is a baby in our industry
- 51:51Speaker 1: in where we're from, you know what I mean, Like
- 51:53Speaker 1: he ain't even you know what I'm saying. Like he
- 51:56Speaker 1: got to get in there as he got more popular
- 51:59Speaker 1: in the world, but at that time, he still was
- 52:01Speaker 1: a baby. Yo. I wanted to ask you because someone
- 52:04Speaker 1: like Nip, like I feel like, is you mentioned earlier
- 52:08Speaker 1: kind of the diamond in the rough, right? Not everybody
- 52:11Speaker 1: has the state of mind that he had that, you know,
- 52:15Speaker 1: the way that he did everything with purpose and intention?
- 52:19Speaker 1: You know, like was he always liked that? Did you
- 52:21Speaker 1: kind of know that about him from like the whole time?
- 52:23Speaker 1: I really kind of think he got that from his family,
- 52:26Speaker 1: Like his brother they they are real driven, Like they
- 52:33Speaker 1: are real driven people, you know what I'm saying. Like
- 52:37Speaker 1: they move with a purpose, right, I move with a purpose.
- 52:41Speaker 1: It's very few people who move with a purpose. And
- 52:45Speaker 1: he moved with a purpose, you know, And you can
- 52:48Speaker 1: see it. You know how you go around somebody and
- 52:50Speaker 1: you can see that this dude when it's time to
- 52:52Speaker 1: feel he always here, you always got he always you
- 52:55Speaker 1: can see that this is what he want to do.
- 52:56Speaker 1: Nip didn't have no back door, he didn't have no no,
- 53:00Speaker 1: no second plan. This was it, this music, this is
- 53:03Speaker 1: what it was, and it was it. It wasn't I'm
- 53:06Speaker 1: gonna be a lawyer or doctor if this don't work.
- 53:08Speaker 1: This is it. Yo. He passed away, and then you
- 53:13Speaker 1: had organized or help organized, like it was like a
- 53:16Speaker 1: day of unity in your neighborhood that you know, I
- 53:21Speaker 1: really wasn't aware of, like the historical context of it.
- 53:24Speaker 1: Head had to break it down to me because because
- 53:26Speaker 1: you know, I'm not fully tapped in with all the
- 53:28Speaker 1: politics and who's this and you know what I'm saying,
- 53:30Speaker 1: and so he was kind of explaining to me, like
- 53:33Speaker 1: the I the fact that these people and these people
- 53:35Speaker 1: are together was so big, Like talk about that day
- 53:41Speaker 1: and and and why that was such a big deal.
- 53:43Speaker 1: Shouts out, shouts out the little home girl from the Jungles.
- 53:50Speaker 1: You're bad with names, say that, so don't get bade anyway,
- 53:54Speaker 1: ad skip the little home girl from the Jungles. She's
- 53:59Speaker 1: a beautiful person. I can't say why, but anyway, they
- 54:03Speaker 1: were the ones who orchestrated it. And even before we
- 54:06Speaker 1: did the walk, we were already talking about, you know,
- 54:09Speaker 1: ways to because I do gang divention to stop the
- 54:12Speaker 1: violence amongst our people. So they wanted to do the
- 54:16Speaker 1: walk and I was like, yeah, it's good idea to
- 54:18Speaker 1: do it. But when they were calling people to come
- 54:22Speaker 1: and saying it was cool, most of the people are saying, hell, no,
- 54:26Speaker 1: we're not coming. Let's big. You say it's cool to come.
- 54:29Speaker 1: And that's when I went on there and said everybody's
- 54:33Speaker 1: welcome to come. I was hurting at that time, you
- 54:35Speaker 1: know what I mean. Later it was days later and
- 54:42Speaker 1: I I was I was hurting, And it was crazy
- 54:46Speaker 1: because my whole family was hurting. My kids was hurting
- 54:49Speaker 1: because they know Nancy. They know Nipsey from coming to
- 54:53Speaker 1: sleep at our house. He lived in our house one
- 54:55Speaker 1: hundred and third and then when he got his check,
- 54:58Speaker 1: that's when you know he He graduated from there, and
- 55:03Speaker 1: he was like a brother. He was like a big
- 55:05Speaker 1: brother to my daughter in my fourteen year old, and
- 55:08Speaker 1: he was a big brother to my son my twenty
- 55:11Speaker 1: one years in college. He posted him all the time.
- 55:13Speaker 1: So it was crazy that it happened. But the Unity
- 55:19Speaker 1: Walk was so necessary because he had reached such a
- 55:26Speaker 1: different pinnacle in LA with all gangs that dudes from
- 55:33Speaker 1: every set wanted to come pay respect, you know what
- 55:37Speaker 1: I mean, And we wanted to he wanted to facilitate that,
- 55:42Speaker 1: you know what I mean. And it was so beautiful, man,
- 55:44Speaker 1: And I'm so glad that I was just a part
- 55:46Speaker 1: of it and I was able to make that happen
- 55:49Speaker 1: because that was great for la man. I was great
- 55:52Speaker 1: for our souls, you know what I mean, to see
- 55:55Speaker 1: some dudes we had been fighting with for years. Yeah,
- 55:58Speaker 1: because like you know, like is it almost take an
- 56:03Speaker 1: event like that to happen. I'm not specifically talking about
- 56:06Speaker 1: Nip's death, but something of that magnitude to happen to
- 56:10Speaker 1: kind of because you know, it's hard to tell someone
- 56:12Speaker 1: to stop going to war with somebody if their uncle
- 56:16Speaker 1: died or their brother died. It is because it was
- 56:19Speaker 1: a lot of backlash on our side. It was backlash
- 56:23Speaker 1: on our side of the gang side, you know, because
- 56:26Speaker 1: dudes were still, like you said, will feel a certain way.
- 56:28Speaker 1: So it was a call that was made and people
- 56:32Speaker 1: came and they still had to go back and like, man,
- 56:34Speaker 1: with these dudes, our enemies still, so you know, and
- 56:37Speaker 1: with understanding that that people lost fathers, uncles, cousins, you know,
- 56:42Speaker 1: you got to respect that. But that day showed that
- 56:45Speaker 1: we could find a way out and that was our
- 56:49Speaker 1: mission when we first started with Nipsey. How to take
- 56:51Speaker 1: you back to that and the reason why a lot
- 56:53Speaker 1: of gangs respected him is because we made sure. I
- 56:56Speaker 1: made sure we didn't diss nobody. In the beginning of
- 56:59Speaker 1: his music, I went through all the videos. What's all
- 57:01Speaker 1: the videos, what's all the signs of the world? No
- 57:03Speaker 1: blot that out, no signs dising them. I made sure
- 57:06Speaker 1: my homies didn't put up noneing disrespect to nobody if
- 57:09Speaker 1: you look at them videos. That was all me, you
- 57:11Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. And then of course nip grew
- 57:14Speaker 1: into that because his first music was rolling sixties. What
- 57:17Speaker 1: isn't name? We'll do Woo woo woo, and you know,
- 57:20Speaker 1: and we clinked all that up, you know what I mean?
- 57:23Speaker 1: And history, you know, it's all history now, man, Yo,
- 57:31Speaker 1: Is it true that Debo from Friday was inspired by you?
- 57:34Speaker 1: Was that character inspired by you? No? No, okay, let
- 57:38Speaker 1: me tell you how that went. Okay, this is the honesty,
- 57:40Speaker 1: god truth. You're gonna get this here. I managed Devo
- 57:44Speaker 1: Okay rp R my big brother it managed Devo and
- 57:48Speaker 1: I managed. It was one of the people I was
- 57:50Speaker 1: managing and I managed for years. Right, So to keep
- 57:53Speaker 1: me one hundred DEVO knew of big Uka and he
- 57:57Speaker 1: knew of my reputation like everybody else did and knew
- 58:00Speaker 1: of my reputation. But the character is written on when
- 58:04Speaker 1: of Home, it's for twenty eleven. That has nothing to
- 58:07Speaker 1: do with me. You know what I'm saying. Whatsoever, I
- 58:10Speaker 1: ain't never been in the hunters iron, you know what
- 58:11Speaker 1: I mean. I wrote a beach cruiser, but I ain't
- 58:14Speaker 1: do that. I want to take it on he was
- 58:16Speaker 1: riding around on the beach cruiser like yeah, we all,
- 58:20Speaker 1: I don't know, like I don't know you snatched the chains,
- 58:22Speaker 1: like I wasn't snatching Well we did snatch here, but
- 58:26Speaker 1: I mean I wasn't riding the neighborhoodsnts no chains. That
- 58:28Speaker 1: was kind of like some other shit, but like Folkalore
- 58:32Speaker 1: that Dad was like based on maybe deepo, like like
- 58:34Speaker 1: knew of you and like maybe no, he knew of me,
- 58:37Speaker 1: like like he knew of me. And but you gotta understand,
- 58:41Speaker 1: my reputation goes back to like eighty to like eighty
- 58:48Speaker 1: eighty one eighty two, right, because you're in jail when
- 58:51Speaker 1: Friday comes out. Yeah, Friday came out ninety five. Yeah
- 58:55Speaker 1: I was gone. Yeah I was gone. But my my,
- 58:57Speaker 1: my name and reputation was still. He sees that, of course,
- 59:01Speaker 1: of course, you know what I mean, it presees that.
- 59:03Speaker 1: But there were a lot of big big me DeVos
- 59:06Speaker 1: and whatever. Right now, Tiny, being the actor that he was,
- 59:11Speaker 1: could draw off a big U and that's what he meant.
- 59:16Speaker 1: He meant that he drew from a big U to
- 59:19Speaker 1: act that care that that character wasn't written after you,
- 59:23Speaker 1: not at all, because no, I wasn't on no bike
- 59:27Speaker 1: pushing up on no nigga. Yo. So you were one
- 59:32Speaker 1: of the original Rolling sixties. What year? I'm not original
- 59:37Speaker 1: Rolling sixties, you're not, okay, So give me, give me,
- 59:39Speaker 1: give me kind of like a g which is Arlington Gang, right, Okay,
- 59:44Speaker 1: So because I saw it, well, I saw it in
- 59:45Speaker 1: the documentary, because I watched the first episode. You were
- 59:48Speaker 1: like one of like the like like original ags. I'm original,
- 59:51Speaker 1: I'm off the second group of original ags. And then
- 59:54Speaker 1: so how like, like how did you get us just
- 59:57Speaker 1: the street in the sixties? Okay? So so it was
- 59:59Speaker 1: just a kind of like an offshoot because you in
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: the documentary you talk about how big the sixties is.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: It's the biggest section. And in all respect to my homies,
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: the map was not drawn by me. That map is short.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: We go from Western to the Bread. It only showed
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: from Arlington to the Bread. So the map on the
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: show was a little part. Yes, totally inacurate. My hood
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: go from Western to the waters. Damn there. So what
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: year would would would you say you became quote unquote
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: rolling the sixties? Like what year was that? I don't
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: have no tattoos. Oh that's fair. Yeah, what are we
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: talking about? I mean, just to be honest, like I
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: always say it like this, I never became rolling sixties.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: I think rolling seats became us. Well you said it, Uh,
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: it's in you. It ain't on you. You, it ain't
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: on you. And I've been saying that since the beginning
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: of time. That's why I don't have no tattoos. So
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: I used to say that years ago, like we ain't
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: gonna tattoos? Why I need them know who I am?
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: That's real shit. It ain't it ain't it ain't. It
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: ain't on you, it's in you. So when dudes used
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: to get tattoos. I was like, shit it or you
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: had to put it on you to know it was real.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: That's crazy. I didn't need it. And that what's crazy
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: too is you got you came out of jail with
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: no tattoos. Tattoos. I'm gonna say it again. Yep. You
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. It ain't on you, Yep? Is
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: it in you? You did? Was it true that you
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: got like bad, like like when you had to go
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: like move out of town and like you were in Chicago, Yeah,
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: we got kicked out. You got kicked out of LA
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: you got kicked out of Yeah, So what happened? Like
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: how do you get kicked out of a city? Well?
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: I said something in the documentary because I couldn't say
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: what it really was, but I just said one part
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: of what it was there was the robberies, but it
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: was a lot more, you know what I mean. And
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: so at that time, there was like either you can
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: go to the army or you can go to whoop.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: And then it was like, nah, bro, I ain't doing
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: an army. But I didn't have a choice in there.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: But they couldn't find me guilty of a lot of stuff.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: I was being accused of So they sent me to
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: a little my father in Chicago. Okay, so I stayed
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: up there until I turn eighteen and then I came back.
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: So you're because at the time, you're a minor. Begin
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: So you're a minor, so they can kind of tell
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: you like, yo, these are your options. You gotta go here,
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: you gotta do this, you gotta do this. And that's
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: what people don't understand that when you were born in
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: the state and you get that birth certificate, you're actually
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: the ward of the state. You don't actually belong to
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: your parents until they actually go to court and file
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: to get you on to become your guardian. That's so crazy. Yeah,
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: you actually belonged to the state. So they got to
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: tell you like, hey, these are your options. You can't
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: be here no more. What's you go in front of
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: You don't tell you we can sentence you here. That's
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: how they able to sentence you in court. Damn. Yeah,
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: how did you start to get involved in coaching, like
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: in the football stuff? Because I feel like, for the
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: people who have been paying attention to you the last decade,
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: I feel like you're up, you know, since you been home.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: I feel like you've been a pair of the community,
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: but specifically when it comes to coaching and being involved
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: in the youth football. Alan Loan Man Alan Loan aka
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: big As I was the first one I coached when
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: I came home. His father and mother always had a
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: football program. Okay, so they always did that. And then
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: along with my homeboys, Big DF going on, who was
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: coaching their sons while I was in prison, and then
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: when I came home, they was doing it. So and
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: my son, My sons were good athletes, really good athletes.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: Alls to hear about how good they were. So when
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: I came home, I just wanted to get in there
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: and sit back and kind of sitting them in the
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: cutting and work with them. And I started developing well.
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: I started Extra Finished Fellowship Network, which is the parent
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: company of Developing Option before I actually came home. And
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: that goes to my stepfather, who's Donal ray Evan, and
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: he's always been conscious. He's always had me read books
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: and all that stuff. He's been really conscious. So when
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: I made the change and I was making a change,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: he just kept reinforcing me with books and helping me,
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: and he helped me start Extra Finish FELLASIP network while
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: I was in prison. So then I changed the name
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: to develop a Option because it was something people like it.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: So developing Option is not actually the nonprofit Extra FELLASIP
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: Network is the nonprofit. We just do business as developing
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: Option for stealing and security purposes. People I can steal
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: and do things. So but then it took me into
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: to want to do something for our community. Man. I
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: wanted to get back. I wanted to to really be
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: able to see these kids make it and not have
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: to go through what I went through. Because I didn't
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: have no father. I ain't really had nobody who was
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: telling us like, don't do this, do that. You know,
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: you can make it. I didn't have that, you know.
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: It was like go hustle, get the grind. On the
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: outside of the family was I ain't have nobody saying
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: you can make it in school, I never had that. Yeah,
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: and you've had like players that you've coached, like get
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: drafted and all that, man, which is eight had eight
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: nine that's made it to the league that I've coached.
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: I have maybe about fifteen hundred through college, which is
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: even that's even that might even be a bigger deal.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: Oh that is a big you know, fifteen hundred kids
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: going to college. Yeah, yeah, yeah, and I got my son.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: My son's my last coach. My last class of kids
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: is in this documentary and it's eight of them and
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: uh four graduate this year from college and then six
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: graduate next year from college. Wow. Talk about that. That's crazy. Yeah,
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: that's mine. That's the work I got. That's the Crenshaw
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: Way and it all went to Crenshall High School lead
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: at Wow. Yeah. So my usually my program tastes kids
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: from my program, the Crenshaw Rams, Crenshaw coach and into
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: Crential High School and then from their college. And like
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: I said, that last group, I got U C l A,
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: Dixie State, US Navy, Reno, Nevada, Georgia, Miami and cut up. Yo,
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: how did you become you're a Vikings fan? Right? Oh yeah,
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: I got how but how the hell did you become
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: a Vikings fan? I got more money out of Minnesota
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: than I ever got any other state. Okay, okay, I
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: was like I would seeing that, I'm like, yo, how
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: did how did you become a Vikings fan? That's so
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: they didn't have no football team? Okay, who do you
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: go to? I went to the Soda all right, we
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: had no football, rams left, raiders coming going, and it
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: was like shit, I went purple and and to this day,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: first property I ever bought in my name, not my name,
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: and I bought it a nothing, but first brought out there,
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: first thing I ever in. Like the Minnesota is important
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: to your story, it was important. I ain't never been
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: back either since they ran me out of there. That's crazy.
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: Wait wait why did you get ran out of Minnesota?
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: What happened? I ain't never been back since then? What
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: if that? What if like hypothetically speaking, the super bowls
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: in Minnesota and the Vikings happened to make it to
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: the super Bowl that same year like the Bucks just
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: did in Tampa. I might just drive at another stag.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: You don't make you sure I need them? No, I
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: never been back. You mentioned you know reading some books.
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: What are what are like three or four books that
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: I've changed your life? And Malcolm's autobiography Rich Dad, Poor Dad,
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: Visits for Black Men and the Brown and Friles by
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: Joey Browner. Okay, easy, how about this as like a
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: thirteen year old white kid, I read the autobiography of
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: Malcolm X. Crazy made me. I didn't even realize Malcolm
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: as a kid, like I didn't, you know, I learned
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: about Malcolm X from hip hop and shit, I didn't
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: realize he was on some gangster ship like Detroit rad
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: was like that that motherfucker. You know, I didn't like
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: that movie. I didn't like the I like the concept
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: of the movie. I didn't see the movie. You didn't
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: see the movie just came you're you talking about the
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: one that came in on Amazon Prime, that The Night
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: of Miami one. I kind of feel like they made
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: my man two weak to undecisive in his life. How's
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: your relationship with Farakhun? What that's pops? I love kind
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: of death? What do you think is? I feel like
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: there's so many misconceptions about ain't no misconception. It ain't
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: no misconception. He has done. He has done nothing but
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: good for our people. It's no misconception. The only way
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: you can find something wrong with him is you looking
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: to find something wrong with him. And I won't even
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: let nobody say it's a misconception for somebody who was
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: all his life fought for our life, right Like, if
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: you can find something wrong with him, then you can
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: find something wrong with us as a people as black people.
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: You got a problem with black people because he's never
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: done nothing before for us, period. And when you were
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: you said, when you were locked up with like what
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: he was like you you would almost stay like frowned
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: upon the fact that you had a relationship with him. Yeah. No,
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: they was trying to they sentenced me. That was one
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: of the sentences, one of my my aggravating, aggravating circumstances,
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: that I had a relationship, that I had a relationship
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: with him. That's fucking crazy. Yeah, it was in my
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: transfers too. That's why you know, I think though, even
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: like my situation right now, because as this documentary go,
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: I still hear where the fairs is going to ask
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: people like what can you give us on Big U?
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: Like what do you know about big U? What is this?
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: And in light of the the in light of what's
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: going on in the capitol and then rushing the capitol.
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: It's crazy that I still get calls from people just's
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: in prison and saying that they come in and asked
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: him what can you what can you give us on
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: Big You? Like I've been home seventeen sixteen years. I
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: do gang intervention and I have to have a relationship
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: with gang members to do gang intervention to help your community.
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: If I don't have a relationship with gang members, how
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: can I call a thousand gang members to be able
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: to come to this nipsey thing? You know what I'm saying.
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: But I am still being pursued to this day right now.
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: I got a call not too long ago tell some
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: of my partners saying that they was asking what can
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: they give them? What we can help you? Like, how
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: are you looking for something? Like I thought the fact
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: that crime was let's catch him doing what he's doing
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: and not going back looking for some thirty forty years
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: ago because they trying to do a reco from my
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: understanding on the hood. So I gotta be scared to
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: say if I'm even affiliated with the hood. Wow, you
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: understand what I'm saying, Like, we gotta be careful on
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: what you say now, but this is what you're looking for,
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: like and you see them doing this stuff. But it
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: goes back to what Malcolm and Martin was talking about.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: They killed all of our black leaders? Are they sinuses
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: in some kind of way? Why if they feel like
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: you got a big voice. So I guess there's a
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: time period on how long big U last, there's something
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: to come up? Would you ever become a part of
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: the political process. I'm a part of the political process.
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: I mean as far as like being, you know, running
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: for any sort of official I wouldn't run for no office,
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: but I'm running for office right now, like just being
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: a voice for our people, just a level of voice.
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: And like they said, like Jiego Hoover said, the the
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: fear of the white man is the intelligence of a
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: black man. That shit real, like it's real. And I'm
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: not capping at you, no, no, no no, listen broadly what
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: was really going on right now today? There's one hundred
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: per Like you said, Yo, what happened the Capital Ship
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: was to me the biggest like example of like all
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: of their energy shit to be on these on these
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: white boys. How you find where they at? How you
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: still pursuing black men who ain't got no power in
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: this country literally infiltrated and can't do nothing, Like even
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: if we wanted to, if you organize every black man
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: in this country, we couldn't do shit. I mean, just
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: to be honest, we can't take a shit. We ain't
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: gonna move on nothing. We ain't the problem in America.
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: When do they figure that shit out? We not the problem.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: I don't disagree, man, I do not disagree. It's been
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: it's been a crazy Uh, I've been a crazy last
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: four years. A lot of motherfuckers have been embolded, you
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. If anything, at least it made
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: people like I think Trump being president, people actually like
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: were at least brave enough to show you who they were, right,
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. But just to be on
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: another note on the Trump note, Uh, it's some dumb
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: white people, oh for sure, like for real though, bro like,
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: and I don't want to disrespect nobody, but don't I
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: used to think, you know, coming up, it's a white world,
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: white police, white school officers, I mean, white teachers, white police,
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: white judges, white Superman, white wonder woman, white every this
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: this the word I grew up here or nothing black
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: on TV but Sammy Davis Junior, and he claimed to
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: be a jew, So we ain't have ship but black
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: and films that came out and they was all taking cocaine,
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: shooting to some kind of jewels and gangster shit, you
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. So you get to think that,
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: But when Trump came. Trump unveiled a whole different people.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: Now they've always been there called white trash. I mean,
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: god damn, I ain't gonna call him trash. I will,
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: but I'm gonna just say, I'm gonna just say there's
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: white trash. The intelligence level is far different than I thought. Like, listen, man,
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: there's a whole middle part of the America where these
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: motherfuckers are real just they're just they're they're like truly
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: brainwashed people. Right. I was like, it's crazy, it's crazy.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: And then I like Trump for a different reason. What
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: was your reason for? He was a hustler and and
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: and watch this when I was gone, Trump was the
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: hip hop being for sure. Oh no, he was doing
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: like skits on mathematic albums and all kinds of shit. Yeah,
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: everything it was about. I read Trump, But bro, he
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: was here and he's also a life, lifelong democrat, his whole,
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: his whole entire life. And then he flipped the script.
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: You know, why get the bag because he knew how
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: stupid people were, these white people were. He's like, I
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: know exactly how to get these fools. I'm gonna just
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: shoot up this fear right into their arm. Talk about
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: every other race. And and I mean it worked for
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: I mean, the jig is up obviously, but he got
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: him elected, dude to the highest office. Dude flipped the
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: whole script. How you go from on yachts and snoop
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: and and my man was a cold business man and
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: he just dived in on the other ship. Oh man, definitely.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: You know, I'm not even sure as a businessman he's
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: as cold as we I think that might be a
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: little bit inflated as well. Now, well, see the thing
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: about it is Trump didn't do business to do business.
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: Trump did. Trump did business to get some money. When
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: you when you're building a business, you like me, and
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: you you ground as your baby. You you hustling at
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: it every single day. Trump did corporation. I try to
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: write his book. Trump established corporations to make two three,
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty million, and then debunk the corporations
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: once you get everybody in the investment. Oh yeah, I
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: hear what you're saying. So he went in it for
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: good business. He was in it for money. He was
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: in to get the brig that's fair, you know what
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: I mean. He wasn't in it to make r His
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: studios become like the biggest studio in the world. How
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: the building built out of it? Good? We'll move on
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: right now. I'm getting this back. Can you tell obviously
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: you know we always bs who's here in the building,
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: but talk about just before we wrap up, man, like
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: what you have going on? Obviously, I gotta I got
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: a talk show coming out like this from a podcast
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: called Checking. Oh yes, sir, I like that perfect name.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: God check it in with big Y you did. So
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: there's gonna be a podcast on the way podcast. It's
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: Kevin right now. We're doing it right now, and I
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: got as So now I'm doing distribution so unique as
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: determinment is. And now we're a distribution company like Empire
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: Distro Kids, So kids can go upload their music and
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: they're not signing to us, they're just going through us
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: as a platform to get the music. They're helping them
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: get their music from music out. Yeah, and then if
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: somebody blows we gonna definitely want to reach out to you,
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: you know together, but it's it's you'll be able to
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: sign up online. We're gonna start promoting and pushing that.
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: And William just looking at it like that, just doing
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: distribution and that's no contract. That's just you can go
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: in you only you only have to do a contract.
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: As far as the music you're uploading. Make sure you
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: ain't stole. Nobody's beating right right, Yeah, nobody's signing to
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: us unless they choose to or we listen to your music.
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: But they'll be able to upload their music and put
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: their videos up and the music as goes from there
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: and they'll be able to download it get paid. I
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: think I pay us like in three days off whatever
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: they make wow fast. Yeah, we're not doing We're not
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: doing no fifty fifty. It's majority of money goes to them.
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: And again, nobody signing us. It's gonna be able to
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: load their music, get it out and working what how
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: how like I think with I mean, obviously I'm sure
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: there's already been some interest, but with this show coming out,
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: I'm sure there's gonna be a lot of interest for
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: like the rights to your story, doing a movie like
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: I said, where an actor plays you. Has there been
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: any sort of discussion for some ship like that. Yeah,
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: I had a deal actually on the table man with
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: Van Rain's about five years ago. Was he gonna be
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: was he gonna be the one to play it. Yeah,
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: well he was supposed to play me then and uh
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: him and Tiny was lobby. You know who's gonna do it?
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: So it's crazy you but uh we just never pulled
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: the trigger. Uh my boss. My wife was just satisfied
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: with I like how you called your wife your boss too,
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: because I feel you my boss. She my boss too. Man.
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: She was like, uh no, she's Likena like it. She
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: didn't like the script because in the script and the script,
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: I had to be like the protagonist. They wanted me
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: to be mean towards her and they wanted to be
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: She was like, you ain't never hit me. And I'm like, babe,
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: but it's just it's just for like the movie. And
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: she like, I ain't scared of you. Why I gotta
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: be scared. I'm like, don't worry about it. It's like
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: because then how they fuck you up? She like like
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: she like and and so you know the lady who
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: wrote it. She was like, no, we gotta want to
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: make him be like you know, and then he had
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: because it shows the evolution. She like, what make him
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: be mean to somebody else? And I'm like, look, b
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: is they telling the story? Yeah? You know what I mean?
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: She was. She was like, hell, no, did you are you?
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: Are you a fan of Have you? Have you checked
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: out the show Snowfall on FX? Yeah? I watched it. Yeah,
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: I say't watch all of it. I mean, I'm dimmed
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: in it because people always tell me about what you're
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: about to say. Yeah, I just didn't like. I was
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: just curious to see if, like, how how accurate you
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: thought they kind of depicted that era. I don't know.
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: I didn't even look at it to see if it
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: was accurate because it's a good ass show and everyone
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: says that it's loosely based on Freeway Ricky Ross, but
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: I'm not that. I felt like it was based off
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: of Boat Benning. Okay, I don't know from what I seen,
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: because from when I heard about the story, he got
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: on in the valley, that's how Bo got on in
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: the valley. Yeah, he got on in the valley. Yeah,
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: and it came me up Freeway got on. I don't know.
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: I think he was always in the hood because you know,
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: we all, we all know each other, we are good friends.
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: So when I heard it was a valley story and
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: I've seen some of it, I'm like, that's Bo. Bo
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: went to school in the boat. Bow lived in on
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: Florence and he went to school in the valley and
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: kind of got on And I don't never know Freeway
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: because I thought Freeway kind of moved out here when
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: he was kind of like sixteen to seventeen and he
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: didn't do no more, he didn't do no schooling. This
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: kid was kind of the in the Snowfall is supposed
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: to be kind of smart, right, Yeah, a smart kid
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: for sure. Yeah. Yeah, it's a great show. I just
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: didn't know because I know that was kind of your era,
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: so I didn't know that was my That's definitely my air, definitely. Yeah,
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: it's definitely my air. Yes, it's check that ship out.
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: But you gotta like really watch, like you can't just
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: get in and out of it. You gotta like bang
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: out all the seasons. I'm now I'm gonna watch the
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: whole season because we're all on FX. Yeah, Hip Hop
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: Uncovered on FX And it's a two episodes dropping every Friday,
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: right every Friday, every Friday, total of six so the
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: next three Fridays and then if you got the FX app,
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: go get that. Yeah, go get the FX. No, go
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: get the Hulu appeah, because it's streaming. It's on Hulu. Yeah,
