Transcript
- 0:00When I, if I have to know that is a vocal melody that I can
- 0:03relate to, that can go through that's good and catchy.
- 0:05So I usually I won't go forward until I do.
- 0:08He was like thrown back by a meal.
- 0:10You like the the the melody and the vocal line and the wrist at
- 0:13the same time Did. Yeah, I never did that before.
- 0:15So like, it was two different approaches, you know?
- 0:17Right on. I love it so, but it worked.
- 0:19Yeah, no, it worked. And then when it, you know, when
- 0:21it was when I threw him the reins, he just went with his her
- 0:25faith thing. I'm just going to go with this.
- 0:27And it was always great, you know what I mean?
- 0:28And then vocal melody would always so like, but Kirk's got
- 0:33that kind of magic and that kind of faith.
- 0:35And, you know, I guess maybe I'm a little more faithless.
- 0:36I don't know. So anyway, what's up everybody?
- 0:45It's keith.com and I am hanging out with Kenny and Todd of Sun
- 0:51Don't Shine and many other projects you know them from.
- 0:54How are you guys doing today? Doing great.
- 0:57Doing good. Glad to have Todd with me.
- 0:59Yeah, I'm so glad to have Todd because we've talked to Johnny
- 1:01and Kenny and Kirk a lot here at Coast Court.
- 1:05You guys have been really humble and gracious to us.
- 1:07I haven't seen you in person, Kenny, since like the plague
- 1:10times before the plague. But like, I moved to California
- 1:13from Brooklyn. I'm here now.
- 1:15And Todd, we met a few times on tour, especially when you did
- 1:18the comeback tour with Crowbar was really a blessing.
- 1:21Honestly, I don't use that word a lot.
- 1:23It was a blessing. I'm a huge fan.
- 1:24It's a blessing to see you up there with the guys and do your
- 1:27thing. But let's talk about I'm so
- 1:28excited about From Birth to Death, the new album from the
- 1:32Super group. Most super groups are not that
- 1:34super. I know Johnny in his interview
- 1:37with Omar was like, I asked super group.
- 1:38I don't know, I don't like that word.
- 1:40I. Hate that word, I know you.
- 1:42Do too, it is super stupid but stupid group but stupid.
- 1:46No really smart guys though musically smart guys and maybe
- 1:49probably book smart. Too.
- 1:50Bunch of old farts. That, too, speak for.
- 1:53Yourself, I'm not a wisdom. Wisdom comes with age, right?
- 1:57Wisdom comes in with the age. So don't you know, so does body
- 2:01aches. No man, my back is killing me
- 2:05every day. But yeah.
- 2:07From Birth to Death is the debut album by Sun Don't Shine.
- 2:10Shout out to Andrew from Corpse Paint Records who helped bring
- 2:13this all together and make it happen.
- 2:15I'm super proud of him, watching him develop and grow his skills
- 2:19as a as a label owner and manager.
- 2:21He was a super fan basically and has worked in the business a
- 2:25long time. But I like he's so proud of this
- 2:28and I'm proud for him. I know, let's just reel it back
- 2:32for a second because we have like the singles, the EP and now
- 2:34the record. What was like the the original
- 2:37like urge to get this thing to happen?
- 2:39Or what's the name of our urge? It was it was Andrew's urge.
- 2:43Andrews Yeah, it. Was Andrew's urge.
- 2:45I mean, you know, I've been close to Andrew for years now.
- 2:49We've been like, in our drinking days, we were always the last
- 2:52men standing, you know, so we had a deep relationship with
- 2:55alcohol and I was best man in his wedding and Peter was there
- 2:59and, you know, a great story. All right?
- 3:02We got so drunk at his wedding that on his wedding night I
- 3:05passed out and he passed out on the chair next to me and his
- 3:09wife was sleeping in the room and then she had to drive me to
- 3:12the airport the next morning, 8:00 in the morning.
- 3:14That's how close to drinking buddies we love.
- 3:16But so also he was also drinking buddies with Kirk because he
- 3:21lived in New Orleans. So like, you know, he hung out
- 3:24at all the usual watering holes and was a huge fan of of crowbar
- 3:27too as well and down and he was touring the typo for a long
- 3:31time. I had him out as my merch guy.
- 3:32So he's more than just like a, you know, big fanboy.
- 3:34He was actually a work working in the business, you know, so I
- 3:37know it was his brainchild who's like, I want to see what would
- 3:40happen if I put all you guys in a room and we were just like, I
- 3:43mean, I don't know Kirk for years, you know what I mean?
- 3:46And I, I, I, you could hear the similarities and styles and
- 3:50like, it might work. You know what I mean?
- 3:51So I got to hear it. And Kirk Brook taught in, you
- 3:54know, Andrew, he found some time when we were all like available.
- 3:59And he was like, I'm going to book the.
- 4:00Miracle. That's the whole miracle, I
- 4:02think the. Only way you're going to get
- 4:04lazy musicians to do anything. I booked all the flights, I
- 4:06booked the time in the in the rehearsal studio.
- 4:08I booked everything, I paid for everything.
- 4:10That's the only way you're going to get us to do anything.
- 4:11Right. And you got two days to do it.
- 4:13Always said was OK, OK. And then before we knew it, it
- 4:17was like winter and we had tickets to go to Florida.
- 4:21I think. Where did we rehearse again,
- 4:23Todd? It was.
- 4:24It was in Sarasota. Yeah, I think it was Sarasota
- 4:27and then we went to Gainesville, I think there.
- 4:29It was a pretty famous rehearsal.
- 4:30I think we I didn't a famous band.
- 4:33I don't know. Yeah, I forget.
- 4:35I was too nervous because I hadn't skipped with anybody for
- 4:38five years. Lynyrd Skynyrd have recorded
- 4:42this rehearsal space. So I just remember having AI
- 4:46looked at my phone. I had a couple of riffs.
- 4:49The riff to be opening riff for Dreams Always Died with the Sun.
- 4:52All right, wasn't called that wasn't called anything, but it
- 4:56was really slow and turds like it was totally different.
- 4:59And I sent that over to Kirk and the guys and and another idea.
- 5:03And then Kirk was like, oh, I got an idea to go with that and
- 5:05got on a plane and got into a rehearsal studio and just like
- 5:08laid the ideas down out on the line.
- 5:10Within like an hour, I think we had the arrangement, loose
- 5:13arrangement for a song. It was just like muttering
- 5:15bullshit lines into the microphone.
- 5:17You know, I had no idea what we were gonna do.
- 5:19It's always nerve racking, right, Todd?
- 5:20I mean, we didn't know, you know, you never know until you
- 5:22get into a room was gonna happen.
- 5:24It'd be really embarrassing or. Well, with me, I hadn't been
- 5:28jamming with anybody for years. I had to knock the dust off the
- 5:32base day whenever he called me up.
- 5:34But that's good though, at least you know.
- 5:36Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Back of life, you know what I
- 5:38mean? And you know.
- 5:39Oh, yeah. But so it could be that it could
- 5:41be really embarrassing or mediocre or it could be, you
- 5:44know, chances are one in the million, it could be great.
- 5:46So we kind of like threw some arrangements together and the
- 5:51next day we got in a van, a Roche infested van that Andrew
- 5:54rented. You remember that motherfucker
- 5:56sitting in a van? We drove to Tallahassee, I
- 5:58think, or Jacksonville. Jacksonville, The Gator House,
- 6:02right? I don't know.
- 6:03I think we went to Gainesville. Gainesville, yeah.
- 6:07It was like a four hour drive, I remember that.
- 6:10We just noticed suddenly that there was roaches all over the
- 6:12place. You know we're in.
- 6:14Just like home. Just like.
- 6:16The next day we're like, OK, let's jam this.
- 6:21And we just jammed it and like Johnny was leaving the next day.
- 6:23So like, well, we got to have drums, but we don't even know
- 6:25where the song is going, how it's going to end.
- 6:26So we tried 18 different endings we had down with the.
- 6:29Drums, right? Literally he left and I was
- 6:34left. Like we were left like, all
- 6:37right, we got to arrange this into something.
- 6:38And that's what we did. We just cut, slipped the rings
- 6:40into something. I think the next day I was
- 6:42writing the lyrics in the van and the way there, you know, the
- 6:44rest is history. But we thought that, you know,
- 6:46we were just going to come in, do a song, have a good time, say
- 6:49goodbye, guys. But like, I don't know, it was a
- 6:51really big feeling of energy, of great partners of energy when it
- 6:55was done. And it was a lot of adrenaline.
- 6:57And we're like, wow, this is really cool.
- 6:58So it kind of motivated us to say, well, maybe we, you know,
- 7:02we want to do some more. So we grew from there.
- 7:04Yeah. But that was the C It was all
- 7:05Andrew, No. Killer.
- 7:06Yeah. He's the best man.
- 7:07I've gotten to be friends with him.
- 7:09We bumped into each other in Vegas, weirdly, at Danzig and
- 7:12down. It was great.
- 7:13Like, you know, there's a love there.
- 7:15He's great. Yeah.
- 7:15I don't want to misspeak. He talks so little about himself
- 7:19that I think, like, the full story is not quite out there.
- 7:21I know that he worked. Like he's like Auntie LA.
- 7:26I think that's probably a NOLA thing, right?
- 7:28By the way, the the studio we recorded at was called the Moat
- 7:32House and the engineer and Co producer was Roger Lima.
- 7:37We want to put, we put it together, arson him with like in
- 7:41a four or five hour time period. So like, you know, if you you
- 7:46know, the records killer, we heard some of it in the way of
- 7:48the singles in the EPI think it was brilliantly put out.
- 7:51And then like for me, like obviously it, you know, like
- 7:54when you imagine all these players coming together, what
- 7:57it's going to sound like. But then there's all new
- 7:59flavors. And I know from talking to you,
- 8:01Kenny, that you like a lot more music than you're known for.
- 8:04And I've talked to Kirk many times and we usually land on
- 8:07like, Thin Lizzy hardcore punk and like, you know, yeah, but
- 8:14yeah. But also like, you know, there's
- 8:16like a heavy Beatles thing in here.
- 8:19There's like AI hear like a King's X thing in your vocals,
- 8:21probably your best vocal performance.
- 8:23And I love, you know, how I feel about the Silver Tomb stuff,
- 8:26which you're waiting for new one, the new one.
- 8:28But like, like a phenomenal melodies and vocals, man.
- 8:32And I know that's a thing that's really important to you, and I
- 8:34think you absolutely knocked it out of.
- 8:36The park. Thank you.
- 8:37That's mostly important for me. Yeah.
- 8:39I mean, like, me and Kurt got a little bit of a different
- 8:42approach. He's like, we'll write all the
- 8:43rips first and then you vocals will come later.
- 8:45I can't like I don't have that kind of faith.
- 8:49So when I when I, if I have to know that is a vocal melody that
- 8:55I can relate to that can go through that's good and catch
- 8:57you. So I usually I won't go forward
- 8:59until I do. He was like thrown back by a
- 9:01meal. You like the the the melody and
- 9:04the vocal line and the wrist at the same time Did.
- 9:06Yeah, I never did that before. So like, it was two different
- 9:09approaches, you know? Right on.
- 9:10I love it so, but it worked. Yeah, no, it worked.
- 9:12And then when it, you know, when it was when I threw him the
- 9:14reins, he just went with his her faith thing.
- 9:18I'm just going to go with this. And it was always great, you
- 9:20know what I mean? And then vocal melody would
- 9:21always come. So like, but Kirk's got that
- 9:25kind of magic and that kind of faith.
- 9:27And, you know, I guess maybe I'm a little more faithless.
- 9:28I don't. Know like I got to trust.
- 9:31Myself, I got to know, you know? I got to know.
- 9:33That freaks me out, you know? Yeah, yeah.
- 9:35And I love his confidence. That's that's got to be like
- 9:37exciting to be in a band with a dude who's like, I know anything
- 9:40I put out will be tight, you know, tight.
- 9:42He taught me a lot. And just being, you know,
- 9:44anytime you work with great musicians, you learn.
- 9:47I mean, that's why you should always get out of your closet.
- 9:50There's a lot of kids today recording their closets, you
- 9:52know, and you never get better when you're playing with great
- 9:54musicians. It makes you better, you know,
- 9:56And I learned just to shoot from the hip a little bit, loosen up
- 10:00and have faith. Like that's, that's how Kirk
- 10:02approaches it. And I think it's, it's a great
- 10:04organic, great approach it you know.
- 10:05Right on. And Todd, once you've knocked
- 10:07that rust off and got comfortable again, man, you got
- 10:10to lay down the rhythm with, you know, put down baselines, you
- 10:14know, against these guys and Johnny, who, you know, we know
- 10:18what a what a great drummer Johnny is.
- 10:20How is it for you? Like when you start to put your
- 10:22own, you know your market? I've been fortunate because I've
- 10:25always played with good drummers, you know, I mean,
- 10:27pretty much every drummer I've played with, it's been good.
- 10:29So it kind of forces you. No, it is too.
- 10:34It's very rare. I consider myself very lucky.
- 10:37Very, very lucky. There's too many guitarists,
- 10:40there's not a whole lot of drummers and it's definitely.
- 10:42Good drummers. Not a whole lot of good
- 10:44drummers, that's for sure. And with, yeah, I mean, I don't
- 10:47know. I still think I knocked the dust
- 10:49off. I'm still knocking the dust off
- 10:51my play. But no, I mean, we, we, we with
- 10:56Kenny, you got to watch him, especially once he gets on his.
- 10:59What was that you were drinking those drinks to?
- 11:02You were drinking your energy drinks.
- 11:08I'm off for them now. Because I'd be in there laying,
- 11:13laying a trying to lay a bass track down get.
- 11:20Out. Yeah, I tell everybody I'm
- 11:27probably the least talented one in the band, but I mean, you
- 11:29know, I listen very well. It's not true you came up with
- 11:33that big riff for for what you are.
- 11:36Yeah, but You Are is one of the best songs on the record.
- 11:38That's his riff. He started that.
- 11:42Yeah, one of my favorites, man. And of course it sounds like you
- 11:44like yeah, man, don't knock yourself.
- 11:46It's the world's going to kick you all the time.
- 11:49Don't help it, you know bro. I don't worry about that.
- 11:52If I worried about what I what people thought, I'd never get
- 11:54out of bed in the morning. That's it, That's it.
- 11:57That's it, man. Yeah.
- 11:58What a what a wonderful record to come together and and what a
- 12:01good record for the like. We already have a very strong
- 12:03year of music. It's only the first third of the
- 12:06year is gone somehow because time is crazy now.
- 12:09But I'm saying time warping. Flying.
- 12:12Reality is terrible but like this music is wonderful man.
- 12:15I needed this to help me heal, healing me from my shit this
- 12:18year and I'm sure it was helpful for y'all you know?
- 12:23Obviously, you know, the, you know, we don't get a lot of
- 12:27records like this. This is just stands by itself.
- 12:30There's like, OK, like there's a lot of new music coming every
- 12:32day. Like it's cool to hear something
- 12:35really original sounding and, and, and great.
- 12:38You know, it's, it's tough, it's tough out there to to like, you
- 12:43know, it's lucky you guys, you know, it's, it's a lot of bands
- 12:45have reputations, but you actually lived up to the the
- 12:49combination of. It well, I think we, you know,
- 12:50we put a lot of hard work into it.
- 12:51You know we didn't. We tried not to fall short, you
- 12:56know what I mean? And not only that, we didn't
- 12:59limit ourselves either to not, you know, whenever it came to,
- 13:02to writing and all that, I mean, it, it, it wasn't like we
- 13:05figured we had to write a certain genre of music.
- 13:08I mean, we just pretty much, it came from our hearts and it came
- 13:12from what we grew up on, so. Just mixing stuff up, everything
- 13:15we want to hear and then we like to hear.
- 13:18Yeah. Right on.
- 13:20So then of course, the next question I've been asked so many
- 13:22questions about this is, you know, I know you guys signed
- 13:25with a booking agency and Crowbar is very busy.
- 13:28Johnny's very busy. You know, will we see some tours
- 13:31or festivals at some point in the next year or?
- 13:33So yeah. I hope so.
- 13:36I think we all hope so, yeah. Kirk's really busy right now, so
- 13:40we just we got to get a window of charm.
- 13:41I think it would be great if like if we just toured with
- 13:43Crowbar. Might be the only way we get the
- 13:46tour. Yeah, they do.
- 13:48They doing great right now man. They're doing fantastic.
- 13:51So, yeah. And it'd just be more, you know,
- 13:53it'd just be promoting more of his own music, Yeah.
- 13:57Maybe we'll just chain Kirk to the stage.
- 14:00We'll make him do his solo material.
- 14:01We'll get Josta in there. We'll make him do all the bands
- 14:04down. Crowbar.
- 14:05Sun don't shine, you know, and I know again, like I know Johnny
- 14:09is book solid for a while, so I know it's hard to get time.
- 14:12Kirk just sucks me. Oh, yeah.
- 14:14Nice. We're talking about you.
- 14:16His birthday. A good wedding.
- 14:18That's it. Yeah.
- 14:18Yeah, that's good. I love that guy.
- 14:21Kirk and Robin are some of my favorite people in All the Rock
- 14:24Man. Like I love.
- 14:24Them. He's an amazing person.
- 14:26Yeah. Sweetest guy ever.
- 14:27Very genuine. Yep.
- 14:29Yeah. You get what you you get what
- 14:30you see with Kirk, you know what I'd say he's a real thing.
- 14:32He seems genuine. Yeah, it seems.
- 14:34Like it so obviously touring and then, you know, I would hope
- 14:38this is just came out, but I would hope it would be, you
- 14:41know, the seed to eventually come back someday and do some
- 14:44more get a lot of. Ideas.
- 14:45I think we're talking about doing more.
- 14:48Right now. But let's enjoy this like, you
- 14:54know, I want this record to have whatever, you know, the best
- 14:57possible legs it can have. And I I hope if you guys, you
- 15:00know, I know that bands, they don't really make a lot of money
- 15:02unless they get on the road. And the road is very expensive
- 15:05and challenging now. So, you know, I'm rooting for
- 15:08the best possible case. I can't imagine that like the
- 15:10big European festivals would love to host you guys and.
- 15:14We're going to, yeah, we got off.
- 15:15You know, we do have off. It's just a matter of getting
- 15:18everybody available at the same time.
- 15:21I, I think the main thing is once we get in a room and we
- 15:24actually play these songs as a band, I, I, I think the, the,
- 15:29the actual touring, I think that way it'll fall in his own.
- 15:33It's going to be. Great.
- 15:35I mean, I think it's. Going to mean you got to you got
- 15:37to realize so many songs we've never played together as a band.
- 15:40It's all just been studio so far.
- 15:43Well, you know, yeah. Not, not in the arrangement like
- 15:46some of the stuff, like just like playing along with Johnny
- 15:50into an illusory arrangement and then coming home to my studio
- 15:53and actually arranging it and making it.
- 15:55So are you right? Some of the songs we never
- 15:56actually played through at all. Yeah.
- 15:59Yep. And then I mean the last three
- 16:01songs. I mean, we got that thing with,
- 16:04but basically we we do the songs, but then we wouldn't
- 16:07really play them and Johnny had to leave.
- 16:10Yeah. And then we'd finish the songs
- 16:12up, so. We did actually play through
- 16:14power to live. We we actually live created that
- 16:16from beginning to. Act, that's amazing.
- 16:18I couldn't tell. If you told me I couldn't, I
- 16:20wouldn't have known. And then also all you wasted
- 16:23too. We can't we we stood with it
- 16:25like the whole. Thing and then we just Oh yeah,
- 16:28when we're doing the videos. Yeah, yeah, I.
- 16:30Don't which hopefully we get our videos pretty soon.
- 16:33Yeah, man. You wanna get on Hold the beast,
- 16:35Hold the beast is holding video. Ohh.
- 16:37He's OK. He's holding our beast.
- 16:39Holding. Eyes.
- 16:40Ohh, gosh, his his poor hands with all those guys.
- 16:45Anyway, I know he's great too. Yeah, I love yeah, like I we'd
- 16:49love to see some more content and stuff like that.
- 16:52But you know, Todd, you mentioned Crow.
- 16:54You know crowbar is doing huge right now.
- 16:55They're having a. Moment.
- 16:56Oh yeah, they're doing awesome. A lot of people are discovering
- 16:59them for the first time, and you're part of that history
- 17:01also. And also we just had the
- 17:03anniversary for Down. So like this is a very nice, you
- 17:06know, I hope that like your people are, you know, reacting
- 17:09positively and including you in their good, you know, vibes
- 17:13about all these projects you contributed to over the years,
- 17:15Man, because I, I'm a. Huge fan.
- 17:17It's like revenge of the old guy.
- 17:20Revenge of the Nerds is revenge of the old man that.
- 17:25Could be revenge. Revenge of the Fools.
- 17:28Revenge of the senior citizens. Right on, right on.
- 17:31But yeah, man, I'm really proud of Utah and I'm really happy.
- 17:34Like I hope this blow up for Crowbar helps include you in
- 17:37that, you know, and again in those fives.
- 17:39Oh yeah? Well, you got to realize if you
- 17:43look at the band now, there's no more fat guys in the band, so.
- 17:47Yes, all the fat guy memes, the cat crowbar memes, the jet How
- 17:52do I get how do I gain weight and masses of you know, listen
- 17:56to this crowbar album right so. You're right.
- 17:59I'm living proof, check me out. I was the before and the after.
- 18:02Guy, but yeah. Kirk.
- 18:04Kirk is trimmed down a little bit, so that's nice.
- 18:07He's. In great shape.
- 18:08Zach Zach is a very high calorie person.
- 18:11I've hung out with him. He's he might be a Red Bull fan.
- 18:14He's probably like his he's got like a metabolism like a
- 18:17superhero. So like, I don't know, he would
- 18:19never get with fat that guy. And then and then for you,
- 18:25Kenny, just really quick. I know again, I said offline
- 18:28it's a heavy day in general, But like I know there's a lot of
- 18:30chatter about like this live typo album and I don't know if
- 18:33you have any updates to share with us or and or maybe I know
- 18:37you guys both said you'd be open to like a tribute show or
- 18:40celebratory one off thing with other people singing, but I
- 18:44don't know. There's nothing in the definite
- 18:46works right now that we've just been talk about.
- 18:48As far as the tribute show, I would be willing to do it, of
- 18:51course. And As for the live tracks, I'm
- 18:53up to Love you to death right now.
- 18:54So I'm going over those traps. I'm deaf from notes right now.
- 18:58But it's a trip. It's a trip is delving into this
- 19:01stuff and it's like a teleportation back in time.
- 19:05So like, I feel like I'm on stage, like I can, you know,
- 19:07like playing along to Johnny's hi hat, you know, I feel like
- 19:10I've just been teleported back, you know, And it's it's it's
- 19:12just a wild experience, you know, and everything comes back
- 19:15to me like second nature because I guess, you know, played these
- 19:18songs 1000 * 1000 years ago. But it just floods back to me.
- 19:21And it's been a great experience so far.
- 19:23So I'm going to enjoy going through every track in in the
- 19:26whole set and getting it all right, you know, because I don't
- 19:30think anybody knows the way really should sound except for
- 19:33be Josh and Johnny, you know, So I'm going to have to help the
- 19:35mixer get through it You. Know is Josh involved at all or
- 19:38is he just? Yeah, she was here for one day.
- 19:40He drove me crazy for one day for about four hours.
- 19:42But no, no, But he had some great scope of, you know, ideas
- 19:47on how to make it more typo and get the identity back into it
- 19:50and stuff. You know, as far as production
- 19:52tricks and and what to do. Nice.
- 19:54Work. Well, of course, he produced a
- 19:55lot of records himself, right? And he's, he would know.
- 19:58He was part of it, yeah. Do we do we know what label
- 20:02that's going to come out on? I felt like you guys were signed
- 20:05to Nuclear Blast for the type of but.
- 20:07I wasn't sure. It's going to be a new blast.
- 20:09Yeah, All right, cool. Just just confirming for me.
- 20:11That was cool. I'm sorry to sidebar off on that
- 20:13stuff, but I get. No, that's fine.
- 20:15That's cool. No, I respect.
- 20:16It's just another thing I'm doing, you know?
- 20:18Just one more thing you're working on Silver Tomb,
- 20:19hopefully coming soon. As yeah, you know, Dwayne,
- 20:22Dwayne Seminole saying that who produced the Sunshine stuff is
- 20:26producing, is mixing that stuff. So all the Silver Tomb tracks
- 20:29were recording in in in my studio fucking some of the best
- 20:31guitar tracks I've ever done, definitely.
- 20:33And bass tracks and vocal tracks.
- 20:35All right. Drums Johnny recorded on his own
- 20:37and I compiled it all and through to Dwayne, he's mixing
- 20:39it. So we're just got the whole
- 20:41sequence of the album that we're doing right now.
- 20:44Getting ready to deliver it to Long Branch Records.
- 20:46Killer. That's all right.
- 20:47Another one and another one great.
- 20:49I'm loving it. Just for a last question, I
- 20:52always like to end with wild card question and again, we've
- 20:55talked many times, so I try to make these interesting for you,
- 20:58Kenny. And now Utah, what is a band
- 21:01people would not expect that doesn't identify with anything
- 21:05in terms of the music you make that you love, but people would
- 21:07be surprised. You can go first, Kenny.
- 21:09Simon and Garfunkel. Yeah.
- 21:12I love Simon and Garfunkel. I know like 4 songs on guitar
- 21:15you know? I mean full.
- 21:16Simon is one of my favorite guitar players, one of the
- 21:19greatest finger picking guitar players out there.
- 21:21Love his tone, love their vocals, all of their vocal
- 21:24layers and melodies and harmonies.
- 21:26You can hear it and influence in some of my stuff as well,
- 21:29believe it or not. Yeah no 100% I definitely hear
- 21:32it and feeling groovy is like the best weed sall never like.
- 21:35That one's a little too happy for me.
- 21:37I like it. I like the really depressing
- 21:38stuff that's. OK, OK.
- 21:43And. What about?
- 21:45I'd say probably the early Queen stuff.
- 21:49I Was Queen was the first concert I went to in 1978
- 21:52Halloween night, so I got to see the original band.
- 21:56No feelings and. I never got to see that.
- 21:59That's awesome. Freak me out.
- 22:01My first album I ever bought was News of the World with my own
- 22:03money. Yeah, he's 75.
- 22:05Whatever. That's amazing dude.
- 22:08Deacon is the shit man. He is one of my my heroes along
- 22:10with. Fantastic song.
- 22:12Wagon, John. Jones, Cliff Philo.
- 22:15I love Deacon's bass, man. It's just you can pick.
- 22:17Well, forgive him. Well, forgive him for doom,
- 22:20doom, doom, doom, doom doom. It's not his fault.
- 22:22But forgive him for that. He's a.
- 22:25Drummer go crazy. I know.
- 22:27Yeah, but look how much money he made off of that I.
- 22:30Mean it's it's it's one of those amazingly catchy, incredibly
- 22:34bass lines that drive you crazy. I mean, I think about that song.
- 22:38I think about especially Bowie and Freddie, like, whatever that
- 22:42would be. That would be like, you know,
- 22:44Peter. And no, the history of that
- 22:47song, they met in I think Ibiza, they were both recording, both
- 22:50fans recording the same studio, and they stood up all night
- 22:52doing fucking mountains of cocaine and wrote.
- 22:54That wrote that together. They were all crap out of their
- 22:58minds. It totally shows.
- 22:59That's great, man. Kenny, maybe you need to do a
- 23:01book, man. You have a wealth of stories of
- 23:03your own and other people. Oh.
- 23:06God book and I got to mention people and I get pissed at me
- 23:09and I went to the years of that with drinking.
- 23:11I'm not I'm drinking anymore and I'm have to wake up in the
- 23:13morning mistake. Oh my God, who did I piss off
- 23:15last night? I don't need to sober and say,
- 23:19Oh God, I'm going to hear the the the blowback is coming right
- 23:22now. All right, I'll.
- 23:23I'll ask Johnny, actually not going to ask Josh.
- 23:28He won't do one, I'm sure. Guys, just congratulations and
- 23:32thank you. I don't really have anything
- 23:34else flowery to say. I said it already.
- 23:35Thank you so much. Thank you.
- 23:36Thank you. Thanks for being cool with us
- 23:39and we'll keep we'll keep sharing and following along on
- 23:43the story of Sun Don't Shine. Thank you so much.
- 23:45Thank you, Andrew, and I'll see you guys in the next one.
- 23:48Peace. Thank you.
- 23:49Thanks bro.
