- 2:20Speaker 7: Misty i'm jay i'm lucy and we're coming to you
- 2:23Speaker 7: live via digital recording from did we ever name your
- 2:26Speaker 7: house no do we need to seems like it needs
- 2:28Speaker 7: a name i mean it's a very impressive house well
- 2:31Speaker 7: this is a big moment then so.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Drum roll please what are you naming your abode wait
- 2:37Speaker 1: i have to do it i mean you're the one
- 2:38Speaker 1: here all the time what am i.
- 2:40Speaker 7: Well you're an objective person like i know the house too.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Well You know it better than us. You should know
- 2:47Speaker 2: its personality. You should know its spirit. Oh, God.
- 2:50Speaker 7: I could tell you stories about the spirit of this house.
- 2:52Speaker 7: It has quite the backstory.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Do you have ghosts?
- 2:55Speaker 7: I don't have ghosts that I know of, but it
- 2:59Speaker 7: has a sordid past. Let's just say that.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Somebody killed here?
- 3:02Speaker 1: Nobody was killed here. Is it tawdry?
- 3:04Speaker 2: It's a little tawdry.
- 3:06Speaker 1: Was this a cat house at once?
- 3:08Speaker 7: It was the madam's house, and the cat house was
- 3:10Speaker 7: next door.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Interesting. Lucy's Cat House sounds pretty good. Full of dogs. Now, granted,
- 3:18Speaker 1: she's bucking the system and brought in some dogs, but still.
- 3:21Speaker 7: I think you can probably hear walking around right now. Sorry,
- 3:24Speaker 7: there's a lot of sound effects.
- 3:25Speaker 1: We're very dog-friendly.
- 3:27Speaker 7: Yes well it's a very long story but the short
- 3:30Speaker 7: version is that yes it was in fact the madam's
- 3:32Speaker 7: house she raised her family here while the cat house
- 3:36Speaker 7: was next door and my neighbors say that when they
- 3:39Speaker 7: moved in there was literally a red light that was
- 3:41Speaker 7: there and that for a number of months after they
- 3:44Speaker 7: moved in women would just show up with suitcases thinking
- 3:47Speaker 7: that you know it was still operational and they could
- 3:49Speaker 7: come in and peddle.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Their wares so you say and it's not operational I
- 3:53Speaker 1: mean I don't know is there a price list I
- 3:55Speaker 1: mean I'm really you know anyway Fine then, we'll go
- 3:59Speaker 1: with the new.
- 3:59Speaker 2: You didn't think of taking over?
- 4:00Speaker 1: Yeah, really.
- 4:01Speaker 7: This is many, many years ago.
- 4:03Speaker 2: It's time for a revival.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Time for a reboot.
- 4:06Speaker 7: Most recently, it has been a childcare operation here.
- 4:09Speaker 1: That is a drastic change. That is totally the wrong direction.
- 4:11Speaker 1: It's not at all what we're looking for. All right. Live,
- 4:17Speaker 1: individual recording from Lucy's Cat House.
- 4:21Speaker 7: I guess I should have named it myself.
- 4:23Speaker 1: See, I told you. You could have come up with something.
- 4:26Speaker 2: That's Madam Lucy's cat. Thank you very much.
- 4:28Speaker 1: To you. So, yes, we are hanging out in Madam
- 4:36Speaker 1: Lucy's town. We're coming to you live from Lexington. So,
- 4:40Speaker 1: how's it been? It's been a little while for all
- 4:43Speaker 1: of you, kind of, but even a little longer for you.
- 4:46Speaker 1: It has.
- 4:46Speaker 7: It's been a minute. I'm trying to think because you
- 4:48Speaker 7: didn't invite me to actually participate in this year's Heritage
- 4:51Speaker 7: Stanton Fest podcast.
- 4:52Speaker 1: And I thought officially you never had time. Because I
- 4:56Speaker 1: don't think we've talked to you at for a long time.
- 4:58Speaker 1: I don't always make time for you.
- 5:00Speaker 4: You know that.
- 5:01Speaker 1: You have way too much going on that day. I
- 5:02Speaker 1: try to stay out of your way. And that's why
- 5:05Speaker 1: we've just elected a new dude who's always hanging around
- 5:08Speaker 1: here eating Santan fans. Anyway, so Les has become the official, like,
- 5:11Speaker 1: you're here, right? All right, let's go record.
- 5:13Speaker 7: Yeah, he's more entertaining than I am anyway.
- 5:15Speaker 1: That works out well. I don't know about that. But
- 5:17Speaker 1: he is on hand and not hosting the entire festival, so. Yeah, you,
- 5:23Speaker 1: I just try to stay out of your way that
- 5:25Speaker 1: whole weekend. Wow.
- 5:28Speaker 7: I was glad you were here and I was glad
- 5:30Speaker 7: that you got to enjoy the company of Mr. Alex Cox,
- 5:32Speaker 7: who is perhaps the most delightful human being that has
- 5:35Speaker 7: ever lived.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Way, yeah. Surprising how, again, I wasn't sure what to
- 5:39Speaker 1: expect going in. And yeah, way cool and super laid back.
- 5:44Speaker 2: So laid back.
- 5:44Speaker 1: So much more than I expected.
- 5:46Speaker 7: So chill and so fun. Like in a way that
- 5:48Speaker 7: directors very rarely are.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Yeah. So it was all good. So I was glad
- 5:54Speaker 1: to be a part of that.
- 5:55Speaker 2: And now you know next year you need to at
- 5:57Speaker 2: least ask.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I mean, I guess.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Next year, what are your plans?
- 6:02Speaker 1: You have way too much going on. But if you
- 6:05Speaker 1: wanted to cram it in there, you are more than welcome.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Okay.
- 6:08Speaker 7: I look forward to it.
- 6:10Speaker 1: All right. So we are here not just to take
- 6:13Speaker 1: over your house, but we are also here for Scarefest.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Our annual... visit to scare fest i as i said
- 6:22Speaker 1: to our upcoming guest earlier i was like i think
- 6:24Speaker 1: we've been at every scare fest i think we started
- 6:27Speaker 1: the year it started.
- 6:29Speaker 7: Right how many years has scare fest been going i
- 6:31Speaker 7: think this was 12 oh wow okay.
- 6:34Speaker 1: So maybe we just came to the first one and
- 6:37Speaker 1: recorded or i don't know i don't know where the
- 6:39Speaker 1: cutoff was that year but i feel like we've been
- 6:41Speaker 1: to everyone so if not pretty much everyone since the
- 6:45Speaker 1: show started so i'll take credit for that Do we
- 6:48Speaker 1: want to recap some of the highlights? Misty was very
- 6:51Speaker 1: social this year.
- 6:52Speaker 2: I was like, oh, social. I feel exhausted physically and emotionally.
- 6:57Speaker 2: I was hugged. I'm still at your house.
- 7:00Speaker 1: How willing was this hug, by the way?
- 7:02Speaker 2: He came at me, and I didn't want to seem
- 7:04Speaker 2: too violent, so I was just like, okay, here it is.
- 7:07Speaker 2: It's happening. I'm being hugged by a random stranger. I
- 7:10Speaker 2: even said that as he's hugging me.
- 7:13Speaker 1: That does sound like you.
- 7:14Speaker 6: Yes, yes. And I walked off.
- 7:16Speaker 1: You were like, I don't know either of you people.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Moving on. He put his fake headphones in and just
- 7:22Speaker 2: walked away.
- 7:22Speaker 6: They're not fake. They're very much real.
- 7:26Speaker 2: But you're not listening to them usually, are you?
- 7:27Speaker 1: No, I am.
- 7:28Speaker 2: I thought usually you didn't have music on so you
- 7:30Speaker 2: could actually hear us. That's why you just kind of
- 7:31Speaker 2: looked at me whenever I said anything because you weren't
- 7:33Speaker 2: actually listening to me.
- 7:35Speaker 1: That's pretty standard too, actually. Oh, yeah.
- 7:39Speaker 2: There was so much social interaction. Some guy tried to
- 7:41Speaker 2: get me like twice. Some guy tried to sell me
- 7:44Speaker 2: his movie twice.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Was this the one that gave you the whole pitch
- 7:48Speaker 1: the time I was standing there?
- 7:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:50Speaker 1: He did have a... He had it down, but his
- 7:53Speaker 1: salesmanship was... It was like he was trying to explain
- 7:57Speaker 1: his movie for the first time maybe to anyone.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Or to somebody that it might make an important deal to. Like,
- 8:02Speaker 2: you're trying to sell me like I'm a producer.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, he really did want you to fund the movie.
- 8:08Speaker 2: He already made the movie. It's already done.
- 8:10Speaker 1: No, that was a story. Really, he just raised enough
- 8:12Speaker 1: money to make those postcards he was handing out.
- 8:13Speaker 2: He was telling me who was in it, and I
- 8:14Speaker 2: was telling him what they'd been in.
- 8:16Speaker 1: That's true. You did correct him on his stars.
- 8:20Speaker 2: No, because he was just like, it had Veronica Cartwright.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Cartwright.
- 8:27Speaker 2: It had.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Friend of the show.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Barry Bostwick. Barry Bostwick was in it.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Yes, yes.
- 8:32Speaker 2: And Mark Metcalf, which he's the only one that he
- 8:34Speaker 2: bothered to tell me anything about was Mark Metcalf. He's like,
- 8:37Speaker 2: he was in Animal House. I'm like, yeah. And he
- 8:39Speaker 2: was in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the show. And all
- 8:42Speaker 2: the Twisted Sister videos.
- 8:43Speaker 1: And Dee Snider's right over there. So he has another
- 8:47Speaker 1: connection that you should probably be using this weekend.
- 8:49Speaker 2: I'm sure there was a billion other things, but by
- 8:51Speaker 2: then I was already trying to get out of the circle.
- 8:53Speaker 6: So I was just like.
- 8:55Speaker 2: He was like, and our star is over here. And
- 8:56Speaker 2: I'm just like, okay, you're not Barry Bostwick.
- 8:58Speaker 1: I don't know you.
- 9:01Speaker 2: So yeah, that was like, yeah. And then we were
- 9:03Speaker 2: walking around for not even like, it wasn't even like
- 9:06Speaker 2: 15 minutes.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Later, maybe.
- 9:07Speaker 8: We just walked into the next room.
- 9:10Speaker 2: He's like, hi, I like that. I'm like, oh no,
- 9:12Speaker 2: you already got me. We already had this discussion.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Done been pitched.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Yeah, you already got me. He's like, oh yeah, I
- 9:18Speaker 2: thought you looked familiar. I'm like, then why did you
- 9:21Speaker 2: approach me? And then, I thought he was going to
- 9:24Speaker 2: give me a third time, but then I had a
- 9:26Speaker 2: human shield.
- 9:28Speaker 6: Who was that?
- 9:28Speaker 2: Madame Lucy over here.
- 9:29Speaker 6: Oh, okay.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Threw her in front of you and ran away.
- 9:34Speaker 6: See, again, if you wear headphones, nobody talks to you.
- 9:37Speaker 1: This is a game that I feel like most of
- 9:39Speaker 1: society is playing now. Yes. There's a lot of people.
- 9:43Speaker 8: This is how I avoid, because people that talk to me,
- 9:45Speaker 8: they go, hey, would you like to?
- 9:46Speaker 6: Oh, he's got headphones in, so I just ignore people.
- 9:49Speaker 6: I hear them. I just ignore them. So it makes
- 9:52Speaker 6: me not seem like so much of an asshole.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Then you're just that asshole wearing headphones to avoid everybody.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 9:57Speaker 6: At least I got an excuse.
- 9:59Speaker 1: The social interaction here at Movie Mountain.
- 10:02Speaker 2: So much social interaction. I talked to several people.
- 10:06Speaker 1: To our previous guest of the show, I was talking
- 10:09Speaker 1: to John. Now you guys know, so I can mention
- 10:12Speaker 1: him by name. But yeah, after having his meltdown at
- 10:16Speaker 1: Dragon Con, it was interesting. I was like, While you're
- 10:19Speaker 1: in company, because you haven't seen Misty in action around people.
- 10:22Speaker 1: The other day, she went to a concert, and there
- 10:24Speaker 1: were people near her, and her head was going to implode.
- 10:28Speaker 2: I thought I was going to have a stroke.
- 10:30Speaker 1: He said this is why he knows you're cool, is
- 10:33Speaker 1: that you also.
- 10:34Speaker 6: I'm usually okay.
- 10:34Speaker 2: It depends on the people. These people were vile, confrontational jackasses.
- 10:39Speaker 1: I will give you... Yeah, they were all of them.
- 10:40Speaker 1: They were complete jackasses. It was interesting watching Misty.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Okay, if you're on an aisle seat, for example... And
- 10:47Speaker 2: you get there before everybody in the aisle seat is there.
- 10:50Speaker 2: And they show up. And they are relatively large people.
- 10:53Speaker 2: I mean, she was, you know, a little bit bigger.
- 10:56Speaker 2: I'm a big girl, you know. But if you're on
- 10:58Speaker 2: the aisle seat and people need to get in, do you,
- 11:01Speaker 2: you know, stand up and let them in? Or do
- 11:04Speaker 2: you just sit there and be a dick?
- 11:07Speaker 7: I'm going to go with option A.
- 11:10Speaker 2: And she was like, sir, can I get through?
- 11:11Speaker 1: And he's like, no.
- 11:14Speaker 2: She's like, he kind of tilts his knees to one side.
- 11:18Speaker 1: He shifted his knees kind of towards the aisle, but
- 11:20Speaker 1: barely enough to do anything.
- 11:22Speaker 7: What was the show, just out of curiosity, who attracts
- 11:25Speaker 7: a terrible crowd like this?
- 11:26Speaker 1: We're not blaming Rob for this.
- 11:27Speaker 2: We are not blaming Rob Thomas or Matchbox 20. I mean,
- 11:32Speaker 2: they showed up drunk. They showed up drunk. Like, loudly
- 11:37Speaker 2: heckled the first two opening bands. Loudly heckled.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Yeah, this guy who was playing, like, nine instruments. Yeah,
- 11:43Speaker 1: you're right. You're so much more talented than he is, sir.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Feel free to heckle.
- 11:46Speaker 2: He was the only guy on stage. He had the
- 11:50Speaker 2: keyboard where you would record it. Like, you would play.
- 11:52Speaker 1: He was, like, looping stuff.
- 11:53Speaker 2: Yeah, and he would play each instrument and then fucking
- 11:55Speaker 2: do his stuff.
- 11:56Speaker 4: Wow.
- 11:57Speaker 1: And this guy was making fun of him.
- 11:58Speaker 2: He was literally everything up there he was playing at
- 12:01Speaker 2: some point.
- 12:01Speaker 1: This guy's an idiot.
- 12:03Speaker 3: So, yeah.
- 12:03Speaker 2: He had two guitars on at one time. Yeah, yeah.
- 12:06Speaker 1: That guy was very talented. The guy next to us
- 12:08Speaker 1: was an idiot.
- 12:09Speaker 2: But yeah, back to the situation with the lady trying
- 12:11Speaker 2: to get through. She finally squeezes through, says to the
- 12:15Speaker 2: girl next to him, nice date you got there.
- 12:17Speaker 7: Ooh, this became very confrontational.
- 12:20Speaker 2: I didn't hear that part. Yeah, the girl next to him,
- 12:22Speaker 2: he kept bumping into her. And he was like, can
- 12:25Speaker 2: you fucking believe it? Like, loudly. I'm like, I shouldn't
- 12:29Speaker 2: fucking have to get out. That's a fucking readout. I'm like, dude.
- 12:32Speaker 1: You bought the ILC. You picked it.
- 12:35Speaker 2: It costs more to get these.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Yeah, that's why I know you picked it, because it
- 12:38Speaker 1: costs more.
- 12:39Speaker 2: I'm just like, really, dude? And I was like, I
- 12:41Speaker 2: have such stress and anxiety. I was about ready to cry.
- 12:45Speaker 2: My entire body tensed up.
- 12:47Speaker 6: Especially around drunk people.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Yeah, around drunk people. You have a problem with people
- 12:51Speaker 2: without alcohol. But yeah, they were drunk, and they went
- 12:54Speaker 2: out at least twice to go to the bar in
- 12:58Speaker 2: the palace lobby.
- 12:59Speaker 1: And eventually, I think you wished hard enough.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Two-thirds of the way through... The second guys, after they
- 13:07Speaker 2: had bitched and cried, we want Rob Thomas, we want
- 13:09Speaker 2: Rob Thomas. They left. I'm assuming they go to the bar.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Never came back.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Never came back for the actual show that they were at.
- 13:18Speaker 1: So we only assume they got kicked out because they
- 13:21Speaker 1: were drunk.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Or got too drunk and couldn't find their way back
- 13:23Speaker 2: to their seats.
- 13:24Speaker 1: Yeah, maybe that. Just rolling around on the floor somewhere, maybe.
- 13:27Speaker 2: But that situation is what puts me like, I can
- 13:29Speaker 2: deal with conventions for the most part. I can deal with.
- 13:32Speaker 1: We're kind of used to that at this point.
- 13:33Speaker 2: I can deal with, like, festivals to some degree. Like,
- 13:37Speaker 2: you know, outside street festivals. Harvest Homecoming, for example.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Harvest Homecoming specifically.
- 13:42Speaker 2: But yeah, people that are, like, confrontational and drunk, I
- 13:45Speaker 2: just can't deal with.
- 13:47Speaker 1: They were obnoxious. But yeah.
- 13:49Speaker 8: But every show we've been at, we've had that kind
- 13:51Speaker 8: of problem.
- 13:52Speaker 2: But not to that degree.
- 13:53Speaker 6: Not to that degree.
- 13:54Speaker 8: I mean, when we were at the Rob Zombie concert,
- 13:56Speaker 8: there was that one girl that was.
- 13:59Speaker 6: Face planted in the aisle.
- 14:01Speaker 2: After she was like, she was like drinking. This was
- 14:03Speaker 2: on a fucking Monday, by the way, a Monday. She's
- 14:08Speaker 2: in the aisle, beer in one hand, swinging it. It's
- 14:11Speaker 2: like arcing everywhere. And I know those drinks can't be cheap.
- 14:16Speaker 2: So she's like drenched like the carpet of the palace.
- 14:20Speaker 2: And like, it's got to be at least a $ 10 beer.
- 14:22Speaker 2: She's just swashing it all around. Like, oh my God.
- 14:25Speaker 6: And then she face planted.
- 14:28Speaker 1: And we laughed.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Good times. I don't even know how we got here.
- 14:32Speaker 8: Rob Thomas.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Now we're blaming Rob Thomas.
- 14:35Speaker 1: We didn't have those experiences today.
- 14:37Speaker 2: There did seem to be more people in general.
- 14:42Speaker 8: I only shoulder checked one person.
- 14:45Speaker 1: I had that with a clown. So I don't know
- 14:48Speaker 1: if that really counts.
- 14:49Speaker 6: It's the guy that got in Misty's way that was like, uh, Beetlejuice!
- 14:53Speaker 6: When watching where he was going.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Oh, that fucking asshole.
- 14:55Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 14:55Speaker 2: I thank you for shoulder checking that.
- 14:57Speaker 6: I shoulder checked him.
- 14:58Speaker 2: That guy was just wandering about, meandering.
- 15:01Speaker 6: He wasn't paying attention, so I checked him.
- 15:03Speaker 1: What is wrong with people?
- 15:05Speaker 2: Yeah, there were more people in costumes than... Because it
- 15:07Speaker 2: seems like they've been kind of slacking on costumes in
- 15:09Speaker 2: the past couple years when it comes to Scarefest.
- 15:11Speaker 1: A lot of them are clowns. I can't get behind that.
- 15:13Speaker 2: But most of them are promoting something. Half of them,
- 15:16Speaker 2: if they're clowns, they're either promoting some kind of movie,
- 15:18Speaker 2: a production company, or some kind of haunted house. Or attraction.
- 15:23Speaker 1: I'm not involved in any of those.
- 15:24Speaker 3: I don't care.
- 15:24Speaker 1: They just seem like a bunch of clowns to me.
- 15:27Speaker 2: I just get aggravated when they half-ass the costumes. Or
- 15:29Speaker 2: they half-ass the entire getup.
- 15:30Speaker 1: This is an ongoing issue for you, so feel free
- 15:34Speaker 1: to continue this.
- 15:35Speaker 2: I mean, when you're wearing the full fucking goth belt,
- 15:38Speaker 2: you have your fishnets, your leather things, your short, your buckles,
- 15:42Speaker 2: and then you're wearing fucking running shoes. Not even, like,
- 15:45Speaker 2: cool running shoes, but when you're wearing, like, New Balance or, like, Nikes.
- 15:49Speaker 6: Or Keds.
- 15:50Speaker 7: Keds.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Not even wearing Chucks. You're not even wearing, like, cool shoes.
- 15:53Speaker 4: Dr.
- 15:53Speaker 3: Scholl's.
- 15:54Speaker 2: You could throw some Chucks on there, and I would
- 15:56Speaker 2: find it respectable.
- 15:58Speaker 1: That's just because Chucks are awesome.
- 15:59Speaker 2: You can't go wrong with Chucks.
- 16:00Speaker 8: Black Chucks.
- 16:01Speaker 6: If you're going.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Or at least some variety of black.
- 16:04Speaker 6: Yeah, something like that.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Or gray. Our cool dude with the old-timey outfit, and
- 16:09Speaker 1: then his were like New Balance, too.
- 16:11Speaker 2: I thought he was wearing Nikes.
- 16:12Speaker 1: I couldn't tell. I don't know. They were not cool.
- 16:16Speaker 2: The DMV.
- 16:18Speaker 1: We previously mentioned, not by name, but he's a director,
- 16:21Speaker 1: and Misty mostly knows him from the DMV. He hangs
- 16:26Speaker 1: out at the DMV. That's how you know he's a
- 16:28Speaker 1: pretty high-dollar director.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Yeah, they switched things around this year, but I guess
- 16:33Speaker 2: you said they switched things around last year, but I
- 16:34Speaker 2: don't remember.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I remember you complaining about last year.
- 16:37Speaker 8: I don't remember last year either.
- 16:39Speaker 2: I thought it was just shortened up from last year.
- 16:41Speaker 1: They changed the layout because you have a very specific
- 16:44Speaker 1: way that we walk, and you're the one that has
- 16:46Speaker 1: to keep charge of it. So I'm like, okay, as
- 16:48Speaker 1: long as you remember where we've been, we start on
- 16:50Speaker 1: this aisle, we go down this side, whatever. But you
- 16:52Speaker 1: have a specific pattern, and then they totally changed the way,
- 16:57Speaker 1: so you couldn't do that last year. And then this
- 17:00Speaker 1: year was spread out even more differently. So it's just confusing.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Mostly you, the rest of the people probably don't care,
- 17:06Speaker 1: but you know, you moved our water bowl while we're
- 17:09Speaker 1: discussing dogs. So it throws us off. We're not, we're geeks.
- 17:13Speaker 1: We're not used to these things.
- 17:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:15Speaker 2: I mean, I saw Bruce Campbell.
- 17:18Speaker 1: I've seen him a few times in my life, but
- 17:20Speaker 1: it's always good to see him.
- 17:22Speaker 2: He did look very dapper.
- 17:23Speaker 7: I was going to say dashing. Dashing and dapper.
- 17:25Speaker 1: I know, right? I think I did say used car
- 17:28Speaker 1: salesman as well.
- 17:29Speaker 2: But a good one.
- 17:30Speaker 1: But a good used car salesman. Yeah, I don't mean that.
- 17:32Speaker 1: A successful one. Yeah, I don't mean that in a
- 17:33Speaker 1: bad way, which I.
- 17:34Speaker 8: Guess is- Did he wear his mirrored aviators?
- 17:36Speaker 1: No, he had the tinted version going on.
- 17:39Speaker 6: Oh, I thought they were mirrored.
- 17:40Speaker 7: Oh, I thought they were too. They just gave that impression.
- 17:43Speaker 2: I could see his eyeballs.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I think it was just tinted. It was just
- 17:47Speaker 1: an effect. I can't see very well. He had a
- 17:49Speaker 1: very cool set of glasses on and his stylish leisure
- 17:52Speaker 1: suit action.
- 17:53Speaker 2: The lonely table of Lee Majors.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Oh, man.
- 17:56Speaker 8: I understand why there weren't more people at Lee Majors' table.
- 17:59Speaker 8: I'm poor, so I would have gotten something, but I'm broke.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Again, I feel like if we switched up and put
- 18:04Speaker 1: it at one of the comic pop culture-y conventions, he
- 18:07Speaker 1: probably would have more people. They just tried to play
- 18:10Speaker 1: the Bruce Campbell- tie in for Evil Dead and I
- 18:13Speaker 1: guess it didn't work out so much. At least not today.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Maybe tomorrow he'll have tons of people.
- 18:17Speaker 2: He didn't look as pissy about being alone at his table.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Than some other people. He's just flipping through his phone
- 18:21Speaker 1: looking at stuff. He's laid back.
- 18:23Speaker 7: It was surprising to me though because I feel like
- 18:24Speaker 7: Lee Majors actually has like a very substantial Lexington fan
- 18:28Speaker 7: base because he's a Kentucky boy. I mean he was
- 18:29Speaker 7: born in Michigan but when his parents passed away he
- 18:32Speaker 7: came here and lived in Kentucky. And got a start
- 18:34Speaker 7: at the Pioneer Playhouse in Danville. And we showed Steel
- 18:37Speaker 7: a few years ago. Did he visit any of the
- 18:39Speaker 7: Madhouse bookstore? I can't speak to that. I do know
- 18:43Speaker 7: that he spent a lot of time down the street
- 18:45Speaker 7: at the Continental Inn, which was a very fancy motel
- 18:49Speaker 7: back in the day. And when he filmed Steel here
- 18:51Speaker 7: in the 70s, that was during his high life with
- 18:54Speaker 7: Farrah Fawcett. And they stayed at the Continental Inn. So
- 18:56Speaker 7: it wasn't far from the cat house.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Is the castle, were they in the castle?
- 19:01Speaker 1: Or was that Ryan's? Who bought the castle at some
- 19:05Speaker 1: point up the block there?
- 19:08Speaker 7: In Versailles? The Versailles castle?
- 19:10Speaker 1: The giant castle?
- 19:11Speaker 7: Not to be confused with the Versailles castle. The many
- 19:12Speaker 7: other castles. I don't believe anyone... I think there was
- 19:16Speaker 7: a rumor that William Shatner bought it at one point,
- 19:18Speaker 7: but that's not true.
- 19:20Speaker 1: It was somebody in Farrah Fawcett was the rumor. I'm
- 19:22Speaker 1: not saying it actually happened, but the rumor that went
- 19:24Speaker 1: around for years, and I don't remember if it was...
- 19:27Speaker 1: Like when Ryan O'Neill was with, I thought they were
- 19:30Speaker 1: together at one point, weren't they? Oh, yeah. Yeah. So
- 19:33Speaker 1: I thought maybe it was when they were. And then
- 19:34Speaker 1: on the way here, I was like, or was Lee
- 19:36Speaker 1: Majors involved?
- 19:36Speaker 2: I couldn't remember. It doesn't matter.
- 19:38Speaker 1: This is how these rumors get started. We're going to
- 19:40Speaker 1: change it every time. And we're perpetuating them.
- 19:41Speaker 7: It is apocryphal, no matter what celebrity you insert in there.
- 19:45Speaker 1: At one point, Bruce Campbell owned it. I'm starting a
- 19:48Speaker 1: new rumor.
- 19:49Speaker 2: Go with it. at some point i own it and everybody.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Needs to get the fuck out i do have plans
- 19:55Speaker 1: for it if they just go ahead and turn it
- 19:56Speaker 1: over to me now i've got a lot of stuff
- 19:58Speaker 1: i need to put in there so it's a love
- 20:00Speaker 1: if you need a visual you know email me i
- 20:03Speaker 1: can send you there's one day i was this shows
- 20:06Speaker 1: you i have no in regular life i have no
- 20:09Speaker 1: real life or work to do so i was killing
- 20:12Speaker 1: time and i was like i wonder if google earth
- 20:15Speaker 1: you can see what's going on in that castle so
- 20:17Speaker 1: i sat there for quite a while switching my like
- 20:20Speaker 1: you can you can get right over top of it
- 20:22Speaker 1: and get it the 3d angle and kind of see
- 20:24Speaker 1: the walls and so yeah i sat there looking at
- 20:26Speaker 1: that castle for quite a while on google well.
- 20:28Speaker 7: You know you can stay in the castle now guess that.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Seems like a lot more effort than just dialing it
- 20:34Speaker 1: up on google yeah.
- 20:35Speaker 7: Fair enough considerably more expensive driving.
- 20:38Speaker 1: And they probably want money yeah so i was just
- 20:41Speaker 1: curious as to the layout from other than the street
- 20:44Speaker 1: where i always see it when i.
- 20:45Speaker 7: Drive past pretty standard castle stuff yeah.
- 20:47Speaker 1: But it's spread out too it's not like a tight
- 20:50Speaker 1: knit like no weird there's no there's not cool like
- 20:53Speaker 1: turret towers or anything it's very spread out like In
- 20:57Speaker 1: case of a battle, like you've got a nice wall. Again,
- 21:00Speaker 1: this is why I would build a castle in case there's,
- 21:02Speaker 1: you know, hordes of enemies coming at me. I'd have
- 21:05Speaker 1: a good wall and you'd have the nice little, your
- 21:08Speaker 1: corner pieces where you could put your archers and, you know,
- 21:10Speaker 1: start firing.
- 21:11Speaker 7: Away at people.
- 21:12Speaker 1: So yeah, it's got a good layout for defending yourself.
- 21:15Speaker 1: But yeah, it's very different than some of your more
- 21:18Speaker 1: storybooky castles. Yeah.
- 21:19Speaker 7: Well, do you know the origin story of the castle?
- 21:21Speaker 7: Because it's heartbreaking.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Let's go into it right now.
- 21:24Speaker 7: It's not exactly movie related unless you want me to throw.
- 21:27Speaker 1: In a Lexington related. We're in town for that. Let's go.
- 21:31Speaker 7: Well, I remember being a kid and apparently the gentleman
- 21:34Speaker 7: who built the castle, he had gone on a honeymoon
- 21:38Speaker 7: with his wife. He was a successful man with a
- 21:40Speaker 7: successful business. And he took his lady to Europe and
- 21:44Speaker 7: she saw a lot of castles and loved them. And
- 21:47Speaker 7: he said, baby, I'm going to when we get home,
- 21:49Speaker 7: I'm going to I'm going to build you a castle.
- 21:51Speaker 7: And so they came back to Kentucky and he started
- 21:53Speaker 7: building his wife, as promised, the castle. As it turns out,
- 21:57Speaker 7: it takes a lot of money to build a castle.
- 21:59Speaker 7: Like a lot of money to build a castle. So
- 22:02Speaker 7: at some point after he got that one big wall,
- 22:06Speaker 7: he was just like, oh, I don't really super know
- 22:08Speaker 7: if this is going to work out.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Honey, I'm going to build you a wall.
- 22:11Speaker 2: How about that?
- 22:12Speaker 7: At which point she said, all right, I'm out and
- 22:14Speaker 7: left him. And when I was a kid, he was
- 22:17Speaker 7: literally living in a trailer behind his would-be castle.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it was heartbreaking.
- 22:23Speaker 4: Jesus.
- 22:23Speaker 7: And so then when he passed away, then somebody who
- 22:26Speaker 7: had grown up saying, I want to buy a castle.
- 22:29Speaker 1: I want a castle like that.
- 22:30Speaker 2: We're only done. Lee Majors or possibly Ryan O'Neill or
- 22:35Speaker 2: possibly Bruce Campbell.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Bruce Campbell.
- 22:37Speaker 2: There's a lot.
- 22:39Speaker 7: There's a lot to the story of the castle.
- 22:41Speaker 1: So, yeah, if you guys need a visual, let me know.
- 22:43Speaker 1: We'll send you some pictures of the castle. Yeah. I
- 22:46Speaker 1: like to stalk it on the internet, so that's fine. Yeah.
- 22:48Speaker 7: And again, the city of Versailles, for people who don't
- 22:51Speaker 7: live in Kentucky, we pronounce it wrong.
- 22:55Speaker 1: But everyone does it, so we're just used to it.
- 22:58Speaker 1: I'm sure when they named it, it was Versailles. That's
- 23:02Speaker 1: not how people.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Say it around here. Yeah.
- 23:04Speaker 7: But we have a castle now.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:06Speaker 2: And I totally derailed your entire story to get to
- 23:08Speaker 2: the castle. Back to Lee Majors and the cat house.
- 23:14Speaker 6: That's it.
- 23:15Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 23:16Speaker 7: I do that.
- 23:16Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 23:17Speaker 7: I mean, if people aren't familiar with the movie Steel
- 23:21Speaker 7: that was made in this. Have you all seen? Have
- 23:23Speaker 7: we seen it? Have you seen it, Brian?
- 23:25Speaker 2: I don't.
- 23:25Speaker 1: No, I remember.
- 23:27Speaker 2: Guys, that's a classic.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Again, I think I remember hearing the thing was going
- 23:30Speaker 1: on here like after it was too late and I couldn't. So, yeah,
- 23:35Speaker 1: I don't think I had any connection to it.
- 23:37Speaker 7: Yeah, well, so back in the day, and this again
- 23:40Speaker 7: was at the height of Lee Major's fame, he is
- 23:44Speaker 7: very obviously invested in stunts. And one of his best
- 23:47Speaker 7: friends was a stuntman. And they needed to have a
- 23:50Speaker 7: high rise that was in the process of being built.
- 23:53Speaker 7: That was part of it. That was a story element.
- 23:56Speaker 7: And so they sort of searched high and low. And
- 23:57Speaker 7: Lexington happened to have a building that they were erecting
- 24:01Speaker 7: exactly the correct height of what they needed. And so
- 24:04Speaker 7: they chose Lexington as their filming location. So he came
- 24:07Speaker 7: back to Kentucky. And his stuntman, who was filling, they
- 24:16Speaker 7: have a long sort of storied past, but they had
- 24:20Speaker 7: already done the stunt successfully. But the stuntman, I guess
- 24:24Speaker 7: that somebody had just broken his personal world record for
- 24:27Speaker 7: a fall. So they said, well, let's do the stunt again,
- 24:31Speaker 7: and I'm going to do it. And we're going to
- 24:34Speaker 7: go a little higher this time. And they went a
- 24:36Speaker 7: little higher, and he did the stunt. And everybody came
- 24:40Speaker 7: out because this was a big deal. It was going
- 24:41Speaker 7: to be in the Guinness Book of World Records. Everybody
- 24:43Speaker 7: came out.
- 24:44Speaker 1: The idea is into like one of the giant airbag
- 24:46Speaker 1: kind of things. Yeah, exactly.
- 24:47Speaker 7: It's going to go into one of the giant airbags.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Just trying to get the visual going here.
- 24:49Speaker 7: And he fell into the airbag and kept going. And
- 24:53Speaker 7: so there's like an entire generation of kids just a
- 24:57Speaker 7: couple years older than me who were there, who watched it.
- 25:00Speaker 7: That's one of their first memories is watching.
- 25:04Speaker 1: More lovely stories.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Yeah, sorry. That got dark.
- 25:08Speaker 1: See, I knew there was that angle.
- 25:10Speaker 2: How dark did it go? Did he live or did
- 25:13Speaker 2: he not?
- 25:14Speaker 1: I knew there was a stuntman that died in ball
- 25:16Speaker 1: and steel.
- 25:16Speaker 2: I don't know. I didn't know if he was just
- 25:19Speaker 2: gravely bad hurt.
- 25:21Speaker 7: He died in the hospital, so at least they got
- 25:22Speaker 7: him in the ambulance and nobody saw a dead body,
- 25:25Speaker 7: but he didn't make it.
- 25:26Speaker 2: You saw a soon-to-be dead body.
- 25:28Speaker 1: But, I mean, everybody's that eventually, right? I myself am
- 25:34Speaker 1: a hopefully not soon-to-be dead person.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Hopefully many years down the line.
- 25:39Speaker 7: Yeah, I saw a t-shirt coming back to Scarefest. They
- 25:42Speaker 7: had a lot of children's clothes. That's a big thing
- 25:44Speaker 7: right now at Scarefest. And they had a little baby
- 25:47Speaker 7: t-shirt that said Future Haunter. And it was like a
- 25:50Speaker 7: haunted house. And I was like, that's really morbid.
- 25:53Speaker 1: I mean, are you not familiar with Casper? For generations,
- 25:57Speaker 1: kids have loved the dead baby idea. Whatever small child
- 26:02Speaker 1: Casper was when he keeled over.
- 26:03Speaker 6: In the movies, a teenager.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Well, that's because Christina Ricci was a teenager and they
- 26:08Speaker 1: had to, you know, get them together. It had to
- 26:10Speaker 1: be a nice little couple actually.
- 26:12Speaker 2: And Devin Sawa was dreamy. Good.
- 26:16Speaker 1: I forgot about it. He is there. You're right.
- 26:22Speaker 2: He was the greatest.
- 26:24Speaker 1: What else did we see today? Escalator action.
- 26:30Speaker 2: I was like. Who is that incredibly emaciated man wearing
- 26:34Speaker 2: what looks like a woman's sweater?
- 26:35Speaker 1: Is that G.
- 26:36Speaker 2: Tom Mack on the escalator? Yes, it was.
- 26:39Speaker 5: Yes.
- 26:40Speaker 3: Yes, it was.
- 26:41Speaker 1: I'm assuming if you're a horror dork, you already know.
- 26:44Speaker 1: But the creator of the theme to The Lost Boys,
- 26:48Speaker 1: as later it was referred to, maybe it always was.
- 26:50Speaker 1: I guess maybe it was in the credits that way.
- 26:53Speaker 1: But it then became used as like when they started
- 26:55Speaker 1: making really bad sequels. I think they continually work that
- 26:58Speaker 1: part in. So it's become like the running theme. overarching
- 27:01Speaker 1: theme that is driving the Lost Boys franchise, but let's
- 27:06Speaker 1: just stick with the first good movie. It's the one
- 27:08Speaker 1: that you all remember, and I've played many times on
- 27:11Speaker 1: this show, so I'll try not to play it again.
- 27:16Speaker 1: You should play it again.
- 27:16Speaker 2: You can play the Marilyn Manson version because he did
- 27:18Speaker 2: cover it.
- 27:19Speaker 1: See, I do like occasionally working in covers because that
- 27:21Speaker 1: makes it kind of different than what I've played before.
- 27:23Speaker 1: So maybe, you know, we'll take that break. We'll hear
- 27:27Speaker 1: a little Marilyn Manson sample of it.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Damn!
- 28:04Speaker 1: The Halloween Hall of Fame will continue after these messages.
- 28:09Speaker 9: The Halloween experts at Magic Manor have everything you'll need
- 28:12Speaker 9: this year, including actual character masks from famous motion pictures.
- 28:17Speaker 9: And they can show you the proper application of makeup
- 28:19Speaker 9: to impress that special someone. Magic Manor's professional hand-painted custom
- 28:25Speaker 9: masks start as low as $ 2. 50. This Halloween, remember Magic Manor. Wigs, masks, makeup, costumes,
- 28:31Speaker 9: shockingly authentic. Magic Manor Eastwind Mall.
- 28:37Speaker 6: Double, double toil and trouble, fire burn and cold and bubble.
- 28:43Speaker 7: Sorry, the coffee's going to be making noises for a
- 28:47Speaker 7: little bit.
- 28:49Speaker 1: Weird noises. It's okay, it's Heine Brothers Coffee. That's always
- 28:54Speaker 1: welcome here at Movie Meltdown. I mean, just because it's Halloween,
- 28:59Speaker 1: don't think you can slack off on your drinking coffee beverages.
- 29:04Speaker 1: because it's now it gets stepped up a notch and
- 29:07Speaker 1: don't just because you're gonna be a basic bitch and
- 29:11Speaker 1: get your pumpkin latte that's fine i endorse that wholeheartedly
- 29:15Speaker 1: i might have already gotten one myself but um it's
- 29:18Speaker 1: also a weird halloween for us this year because um
- 29:21Speaker 1: it was october and 98 degrees at the same time
- 29:25Speaker 1: so there's also um you can have like chilled options
- 29:30Speaker 1: So as I was there at the old Heine brothers
- 29:32Speaker 1: the other day, I was like, look at all these things.
- 29:34Speaker 1: They have all these like new festive fall things. So
- 29:37Speaker 1: I was going to run down some options for you.
- 29:39Speaker 1: because I thought it was pretty entertaining. Pumpkin pie cold brew.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Pumpkin caramella. Vanilla and pumpkin soda. There's a pumpkin latte.
- 29:49Speaker 1: There's a pumpkin pie latte. I guess you get, like,
- 29:51Speaker 1: chunks of crust or something.
- 29:52Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Pumpkin Spiceburg. Now, come on. That sounds festive and fun.
- 29:58Speaker 1: There's a salted caramella. You get your apple cider. Caramel
- 30:02Speaker 1: apple cider. Pumpkin apple cider. How many things can we
- 30:05Speaker 1: cram into these? Many, many variations. Just because it's Halloween
- 30:11Speaker 1: doesn't mean you get a pass to not drink tons
- 30:13Speaker 1: of coffee. As I've already done this morning. You might
- 30:16Speaker 1: be able to tell. I had a few too many
- 30:18Speaker 1: cups maybe. So yes. Tis the season to go get
- 30:23Speaker 1: your pumpkin latte. And many other options obviously.
- 30:26Speaker 3: So.

- 32:59Speaker 1: horrible situation it's been to try to keep things going
- 33:04Speaker 1: earlier to these poor bastards like yeah it's not just
- 33:08Speaker 1: like hey i'm rich and i want your money anyway
- 33:10Speaker 1: it's It really does keep the show going to the
- 33:14Speaker 1: level that people don't realize. It's kind of the only
- 33:17Speaker 1: way it's survived this last year and a half or
- 33:19Speaker 1: so since we started this. Yeah. So it is not
- 33:24Speaker 1: only greatly appreciated, but it gives us kind of a
- 33:28Speaker 1: good way to come up with something specific to put

- 33:33Speaker 1: actually care enough to kick in.
- 33:35Speaker 8: So you get a lot of great stuff for that $ 2.

- 34:40Speaker 4: When we're out in the graveyard For more than an
- 34:45Speaker 4: hour Then we.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Heard grateful footsteps From behind our car There was lightning
- 34:56Speaker 1: in the sky Someone's going.
- 34:59Speaker 5: To die And so I said.
- 35:02Speaker 1: To Steve.
- 35:05Speaker 2: We also saw Dee Snider and his tiny little skinny
- 35:08Speaker 2: pencil legs.
- 35:09Speaker 1: But in rock star pants. He is a rock star
- 35:12Speaker 1: and he definitely had on rock star pants.
- 35:14Speaker 2: He did walk through the bathrooms, I guess, through the
- 35:17Speaker 2: food court area after you all left. Decent. You were
- 35:21Speaker 2: on the phone with Richie taking more stories and I'm like,
- 35:24Speaker 2: was that before? Because Phyllisa Rose had already wandered by.
- 35:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I saw her.
- 35:27Speaker 1: That was right before I left there. She was heading
- 35:29Speaker 1: up the escalator, so.
- 35:31Speaker 2: This is the first time in the history of ever
- 35:32Speaker 2: that I did not see Kane Hodder have a line.
- 35:35Speaker 2: Has everybody who wanted Kane Hodder's autograph finally gotten it?
- 35:38Speaker 1: I've thought that for years. I'm like, how do you
- 35:41Speaker 1: not already have his? I see him every other weekend
- 35:44Speaker 1: of my life.
- 35:44Speaker 2: Because I'm serious. I'm like, literally almost every time we
- 35:46Speaker 2: see him, he has a line that's like out the
- 35:48Speaker 2: damn door. And I'm just like, I wasn't even in
- 35:51Speaker 2: like the big Jason movies.
- 35:53Speaker 1: I mean, Bruce still has like out the door. And
- 35:57Speaker 1: that's not that he doesn't deserve it because Bruce Campbell's awesome.
- 36:00Speaker 1: But I'm just like, I've seen him at so many,
- 36:02Speaker 1: and he always has that line. I'm like, are these
- 36:04Speaker 1: people coming back? Is this all repeat customers?
- 36:07Speaker 2: Yet I still go to half-priced books to find a
- 36:09Speaker 2: signed copy for $ 10. That's what you do.
- 36:12Speaker 1: You have maybe a problem. It's certainly an obsession. I'm thrifty.
- 36:16Speaker 1: You're not just thrifty. It's also the hoarding aspect of
- 36:19Speaker 1: it that I'm working on.
- 36:20Speaker 2: How many signed copies of Charlton Heston's book do I have?
- 36:23Speaker 2: But yet I passed one up today.
- 36:26Speaker 1: It's because it was too expensive, though. That's the thrifty
- 36:28Speaker 1: kicking in.
- 36:28Speaker 2: It was $ 8, and it was paperback. And that is
- 36:31Speaker 2: just not worth the investment.
- 36:34Speaker 6: How many copies?
- 36:34Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 36:35Speaker 1: You already got God's signature on many other books. You
- 36:38Speaker 1: don't need another one.
- 36:39Speaker 2: I do have the sign, Charlton Heston reads the Bible
- 36:41Speaker 2: or some shit.
- 36:41Speaker 7: I am not familiar with this phenomenon. How long have
- 36:44Speaker 7: you been collecting Charlton Heston autograph books?
- 36:46Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 36:47Speaker 2: It's been several years.
- 36:48Speaker 6: And it's the same book. It's not like it's a
- 36:50Speaker 6: different book.
- 36:50Speaker 2: I've got three different ones, I think.
- 36:51Speaker 1: Oh, goodness.
- 36:52Speaker 2: I've got at least, I think In the Arena is
- 36:54Speaker 2: the one that I have the most copies of, but
- 36:55Speaker 2: I do have the one of him doing, it's not
- 36:57Speaker 2: a book of him reading the Bible because that would
- 36:59Speaker 2: be silly.
- 37:00Speaker 1: I mean, he kind of does that.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. I don't know. It's something Bible-y in Charlton Heston.
- 37:06Speaker 1: Because he had that infomercial back when he was.
- 37:08Speaker 2: He got it at a flea market for $ 3.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Leave me alone. When he was still around, he had
- 37:12Speaker 1: that weird infomercial thing that was on that was him
- 37:16Speaker 1: basically telling you the stories of the Bible, but they
- 37:19Speaker 1: did bad.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Accompaniment with probably actors who didn't know what they were
- 37:26Speaker 1: doing and I mean he was but this was like
- 37:28Speaker 1: he was more of like the narrator I felt like
- 37:30Speaker 1: guiding you through and then they would cut to like
- 37:33Speaker 1: scenes of like people in like cosplay versions of Jesus
- 37:37Speaker 1: Times outfits and Probably at the beach so they could
- 37:41Speaker 1: get some sand or something. I don't know. I feel
- 37:43Speaker 1: like what little I remember from the commercial is it
- 37:45Speaker 1: looked not the highest quality, highest budget reenactments of the
- 37:49Speaker 1: Bible stories.
- 37:50Speaker 6: Dude, I saw that movie so many times as a kid. Well,
- 37:54Speaker 6: that's awesome, actually.
- 37:55Speaker 1: I mean, that's a huge epic. I've never seen it.
- 37:58Speaker 2: Really?
- 37:58Speaker 1: They don't make things like that anymore.
- 38:00Speaker 2: That's the worst part. I've never seen anything drop this
- 38:02Speaker 2: since time.
- 38:05Speaker 1: Didn't I force you to watch Planet of the Apes
- 38:07Speaker 1: at some point in your life?
- 38:08Speaker 2: Okay, okay. Yeah, that's been a long time ago.
- 38:10Speaker 1: A long time. I mean, that's the crown jewel of
- 38:12Speaker 1: his career. Come on.
- 38:14Speaker 2: I think I have seen it once.
- 38:15Speaker 1: I take it back.
- 38:16Speaker 2: I take it back. I totally forgot that. That was
- 38:18Speaker 2: like me being all proud that I'd never seen anything that,
- 38:22Speaker 2: was it Key and Peele had done? Then Marlena was like,
- 38:24Speaker 2: what about the school thing with the names? And I'm like, oh.
- 38:28Speaker 2: But yeah.
- 38:29Speaker 1: And you've eaten Soylent Greens. I mean, you're halfway there.
- 38:33Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 38:34Speaker 8: They're doing it right now.
- 38:36Speaker 2: I'm not even like a super big Charlton Heston fan.
- 38:38Speaker 2: I'll put it that way. He's okay. I mean, I
- 38:41Speaker 2: have found more signed copies of that book than I
- 38:44Speaker 2: have found unsigned copies.
- 38:45Speaker 7: I was about to say, so when did you discover?
- 38:47Speaker 7: I mean, if I go to a used bookstore right now,
- 38:49Speaker 7: it's like odds on that if I open a Charlton Heston.
- 38:51Speaker 2: Book, he's autographed it. If you go to the one
- 38:53Speaker 2: over on Tiverton Way, there's one right now if you've
- 38:56Speaker 2: got eight bucks on you. The one over on Sir
- 38:59Speaker 2: Barton Way, not so much. Because I didn't see one. Because, yeah,
- 39:03Speaker 2: I'll even pick up one that has the little label
- 39:04Speaker 2: that has the price and it'll say signed, even if
- 39:07Speaker 2: it's not. Because I guess by now the bookstores have
- 39:10Speaker 2: realized that chances are, fuck it, it's probably signed. And
- 39:13Speaker 2: they don't care. Amazing. I'm one of those, if I
- 39:17Speaker 2: go to a bookstore, I will check a lot of
- 39:19Speaker 2: books to see if they're signed. Because I'm a collector
- 39:21Speaker 2: of signed things. I don't know, it's weird. I'll just
- 39:22Speaker 2: go through and look. And chances are, no. Except for
- 39:25Speaker 2: that Matt Penfield book, which is going to be there
- 39:27Speaker 2: till the day i die.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Matt will follow you around the rest of your life
- 39:31Speaker 1: so what's your most prized autographs book.
- 39:34Speaker 2: Oh i don't know that's a tough question one that
- 39:38Speaker 2: i found at like a bookstore one that i specifically
- 39:40Speaker 2: bought oh one of each one of my i have
- 39:43Speaker 2: a signed ray bradbury um I can't remember. It's something
- 39:48Speaker 2: past midnight. So it has a collection. It has October,
- 39:51Speaker 2: the October story in it. I'm getting the October game.
- 39:55Speaker 2: I'm getting it all wrong. It has the picture where
- 39:59Speaker 2: there's like a groveling girl sitting on a girl's chest
- 40:01Speaker 2: while she's trying to sleep.
- 40:02Speaker 7: But you got a Ray Bradbury.
- 40:03Speaker 2: Yes.
- 40:03Speaker 7: So that's pretty awesome.
- 40:05Speaker 2: And one that I found at... I actually found... That's
- 40:14Speaker 2: a tough one because I have found so many of
- 40:15Speaker 2: them that I've been way too excited about.
- 40:17Speaker 1: Long After Midnight?
- 40:18Speaker 2: Long After Midnight. Slash? No, I don't have a Slash.
- 40:21Speaker 6: Oh, you don't have a Slash?
- 40:22Speaker 2: I have several Duff McKagans.
- 40:23Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 40:24Speaker 1: You got a Duff. Several Duff McKagans.
- 40:27Speaker 2: I found several Duff McKagans and a Stephen Adler. Thank
- 40:29Speaker 2: you very much.
- 40:32Speaker 1: Wow. Popcorn, mind you. For our movie tie-in, Stephen Popcorn Adler.
- 40:36Speaker 1: How about people who actually have signed them? You stood
- 40:41Speaker 1: in front of your hero and he signed a book
- 40:43Speaker 1: for you.
- 40:46Speaker 2: I have found so many R.L. Stine books at different conventions,
- 40:50Speaker 2: but R.L. Stine, getting it in person, like in person, like.
- 40:55Speaker 1: This was funny because most people in the world I
- 40:58Speaker 1: don't interact with, as you know. Outside of the show,
- 41:01Speaker 1: I try not to interact with humans. And this person
- 41:04Speaker 1: had known me for a while, had no idea I
- 41:06Speaker 1: did this, had no idea. They were all like, you
- 41:10Speaker 1: don't have a Facebook page. I'm like, it's my name.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Have you ever... Obviously, you just don't care because... all
- 41:15Speaker 1: you have to do, and they, within seconds, were like, hey,
- 41:17Speaker 1: you do, and they're scrolling through, and of all the
- 41:19Speaker 1: ridiculous pictures of me and some random celebrity, this, and again,
- 41:24Speaker 1: much younger, like, I was surprised, because he's a kid still, essentially,
- 41:27Speaker 1: he's like, dude, you've seen my favorite person, it was R.L. Stine,
- 41:31Speaker 1: of all the people, like, he was so excited that
- 41:34Speaker 1: I had met R.L. Stine, and I was like, okay, like, Yes,
- 41:37Speaker 1: he's very cool.
- 41:38Speaker 2: And I want to specify that I did not meet
- 41:40Speaker 2: Ray Bradbury. I bought the book off the internet.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Yeah, that's why I was like putting a separate category
- 41:45Speaker 1: of when you actually like stood in front of it
- 41:46Speaker 1: and they signed the book.
- 41:47Speaker 2: But yes, R.L.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Stine.
- 41:48Speaker 2: I grew up on Fear Street Books. Yes, no. I didn't, actually.
- 41:53Speaker 2: I mean, you at least know the name.
- 41:54Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 41:54Speaker 2: Okay. Goosebumps? I'm not a Goosebumps fan. I was Fear Street.
- 41:57Speaker 1: I was a little bit older. Yeah, Goosebumps was aimed
- 42:00Speaker 1: more at kids, where Fear Street was like the teenagers.
- 42:02Speaker 2: I'm not trying to sound like condescending. There was just
- 42:03Speaker 2: a reference I made earlier.
- 42:04Speaker 1: People love Goosebumps, and that's, yeah, definitely.
- 42:06Speaker 2: There was a reference I made earlier today that's something
- 42:08Speaker 2: I grew up with, and you had no idea what
- 42:09Speaker 2: I was talking about, and I was just like, but, but,
- 42:11Speaker 2: Eerie Indiana was great.
- 42:14Speaker 1: That's another side road we can go down. How many
- 42:17Speaker 1: people commented on your eerie Indiana shirt?
- 42:19Speaker 2: There were so many people that commented on it that
- 42:21Speaker 2: I lost track. And I was just like, thank you.
- 42:23Speaker 2: Because my voice gets really squeaky and high sometimes when
- 42:25Speaker 2: I say thank you. I don't even understand why. I
- 42:27Speaker 2: just say, oh, I like your shirt.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Oh, thank you.
- 42:30Speaker 2: I don't even know what happens. I can't help it.
- 42:33Speaker 2: I can't stop it. I get excited, too, after I
- 42:36Speaker 2: make sure. I'm like, what the fuck am I wearing?
- 42:37Speaker 7: Hold on.
- 42:40Speaker 1: I think every convention you have to do that. People
- 42:42Speaker 1: are like, I love your shirt. And you're like, wait,
- 42:43Speaker 1: which one? I have a lot of awesome shirts is
- 42:46Speaker 1: what you're thinking. And you're just like, which one did
- 42:47Speaker 1: I put on?
- 42:48Speaker 2: Because that's how the hugging guy pulled me in. Because
- 42:50Speaker 2: he referenced my shirt and informed me that there was,
- 42:53Speaker 2: I did not know that there was a season two
- 42:55Speaker 2: of Eerie Indiana. Because I asked the guy, I'm like,
- 42:58Speaker 2: at first I thought he was bullshitting me. I said,
- 43:00Speaker 2: you're lying to me.
- 43:01Speaker 1: I still question it. He seemed kind of like a bullshitter.
- 43:04Speaker 1: And I still, you called him on it immediately. I did.
- 43:07Speaker 2: I'm like, oh no, you're full of shit. And he's like,
- 43:10Speaker 2: oh no. He got his phone. He was like looking
- 43:12Speaker 2: it up.
- 43:12Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. But I'm pretty sure he set up his own
- 43:14Speaker 1: fake Wikipedia page or whatever he pulled up as proof.
- 43:18Speaker 1: It could be.
- 43:18Speaker 2: Well, he did have one fact wrong because I asked him, well,
- 43:20Speaker 2: did it come out directly at the same time?
- 43:22Speaker 1: He was like, yes. He said like right after.
- 43:25Speaker 2: Well, it did not because I looked it up. The
- 43:27Speaker 2: original Eerie Indiana ran from 91 to 92. Whatever the
- 43:29Speaker 2: new one was, the Eerie Indiana. The next dimension or
- 43:33Speaker 2: another dimension.
- 43:34Speaker 3: Or something like that. It was 1998.
- 43:35Speaker 1: You're going from when I'm like 11 and 12.
- 43:42Speaker 2: To when I'm 18. I'm too cool for this now.
- 43:45Speaker 2: I had a job. I had an apartment.
- 43:48Speaker 7: I had a life.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Okay, I had shit to do.
- 43:50Speaker 1: I don't know about some of those things, but you
- 43:52Speaker 1: probably had a job.
- 43:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I had an apartment. I moved out a month
- 43:55Speaker 2: after I turned 18.
- 43:57Speaker 1: Too busy for eerie Indiana.
- 43:59Speaker 2: I didn't know that. I never knew that it was
- 44:01Speaker 2: a thing.
- 44:01Speaker 1: I'd never heard that either. I mean, I'm a dork.
- 44:03Speaker 1: I wasn't that. I remember watching the show when it
- 44:05Speaker 1: first came on, but I don't remember like seeking it
- 44:08Speaker 1: out since then. But I also have never heard anything
- 44:10Speaker 1: about this other season. I heard about it, but I
- 44:13Speaker 1: don't think I ever watched it.
- 44:14Speaker 2: Are you lying to me?
- 44:16Speaker 1: The first season, right? Not the second season.
- 44:18Speaker 6: No, just any of it.
- 44:20Speaker 2: I thought you were saying, I knew of the second season.
- 44:22Speaker 1: I just didn't tell you, Misty. I've known for years.
- 44:26Speaker 2: We all knew. You didn't even know in the first season.
- 44:29Speaker 1: When you would leave the room, we would laugh and
- 44:31Speaker 1: laugh and be like, did you watch it again last night?
- 44:34Speaker 1: So did I.
- 44:34Speaker 2: The things she doesn't know.
- 44:37Speaker 1: This is most of what we plan while you're out.
- 44:39Speaker 2: Which they are bringing back one of my other favorite
- 44:41Speaker 2: shows from my childhood. I don't know if they're bringing
- 44:43Speaker 2: it back in TV form, but are you afraid of
- 44:46Speaker 2: the dark?
- 44:48Speaker 1: It seems like the time to make this work.
- 44:50Speaker 2: It was another Nickelodeon show.
- 44:52Speaker 7: See, I'm older than you.
- 44:54Speaker 2: Not by much, though. You can't possibly be that much older.
- 44:57Speaker 7: No, because I mean, in 91, so I would have
- 44:59Speaker 7: been 15. So I would have already been kind of
- 45:01Speaker 7: aged out.
- 45:02Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 45:03Speaker 7: But when you're a kid, those are a lot of years.
- 45:06Speaker 7: That's a generational divide, Misty.
- 45:08Speaker 1: If you're older. mentally special because that's the thing is
- 45:12Speaker 1: i remember all of these but it's like i never
- 45:14Speaker 1: grew up so like i still people will reference stuff
- 45:18Speaker 1: like way younger than me and i'm like yeah i
- 45:20Speaker 1: remember like i was watching children's programming then like i
- 45:24Speaker 1: do now so yeah i know and that's what i'm
- 45:27Speaker 1: saying that's how you stay young and keep alive you
- 45:31Speaker 1: watch things that creep other people out anyway so yeah.
- 45:34Speaker 2: Creeping on them disney girls is what you're.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Doing sometimes but also it's really good writing Anyway.
- 45:41Speaker 2: But, yeah, the guy lured me in because that's what
- 45:43Speaker 2: brought me in. And he had a wheel. I can't
- 45:46Speaker 2: not spin a fucking wheel. If you have a wheel,
- 45:48Speaker 2: it needs to be spun.
- 45:48Speaker 1: There were a lot of wheels there, too, I've got
- 45:50Speaker 1: to say. We passed by.
- 45:51Speaker 2: I spun one wheel. I got out of spinning the
- 45:54Speaker 2: first one because I just wanted a certain thing. And
- 45:55Speaker 2: I'm just like, can I just sign up? Can I
- 45:57Speaker 2: just have this?
- 45:58Speaker 1: I spun the wheel, and I got a tiny flash.
- 46:00Speaker 6: I got a dragon.
- 46:01Speaker 1: Your dragon's pretty cool.
- 46:02Speaker 6: I gave it to Misty.
- 46:03Speaker 1: Misty picked it up. I just gave it to her.
- 46:05Speaker 6: I was like, pick it out. You're going to have
- 46:06Speaker 6: it anyways.
- 46:07Speaker 1: It is pretty cool.
- 46:07Speaker 6: What am I going to do with it?
- 46:08Speaker 2: They had little cute little keychains that had unicorns. And
- 46:10Speaker 2: I'm like, fuck yeah, I want a unicorn. That's the
- 46:12Speaker 2: only reason I'm signing up for this.
- 46:13Speaker 6: They remind me of those puffy stickers.
- 46:14Speaker 5: I know.
- 46:15Speaker 2: They were like puffy stickers in a keychain form.
- 46:17Speaker 6: But it was a keychain.
- 46:19Speaker 2: Unicorns. It had little hearts. And I was like a
- 46:21Speaker 2: little 12-year-old girl. And I was excited.
- 46:24Speaker 6: And you squeaked.
- 46:24Speaker 1: I did.
- 46:26Speaker 2: I did literally squeak at some point today. And I
- 46:27Speaker 2: can't remember why.
- 46:28Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't know.
- 46:30Speaker 2: I don't remember either.
- 46:31Speaker 6: Most of the day you squeaked at stuff.
- 46:33Speaker 2: I can't help it. There were things and stuff. People
- 46:36Speaker 2: talked to me and then some girl said she hated me.
- 46:41Speaker 1: That was Lucy. It was uncalled for. Wait, what are
- 46:43Speaker 1: you talking about, by the way?
- 46:44Speaker 6: That's the one girl. What did she say? Did she
- 46:48Speaker 6: just say, I hate you? I thought she said, I
- 46:50Speaker 6: hate your guts.
- 46:51Speaker 1: Oh, did she?
- 46:52Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 46:53Speaker 1: Do we know these people?
- 46:55Speaker 2: She asked where I got my purse and I'm like,
- 46:56Speaker 2: I ordered it online. She's like, oh, I hate you.
- 47:00Speaker 7: It was like a I'm jealous of you, hate you.
- 47:02Speaker 7: Not like a contemptuous for no reason.
- 47:04Speaker 2: It could have been either way. I told her where
- 47:07Speaker 2: I ordered it from. I'm like, you wait till they
- 47:08Speaker 2: have sales. It's only like $ 16 and you can get
- 47:10Speaker 2: whatever you want put on it. Hello, free shipping.
- 47:14Speaker 6: But then you got to wait for months. I did
- 47:16Speaker 6: warn her that.
- 47:16Speaker 2: You had to wait a while.
- 47:17Speaker 7: She thinks she hates you now.
- 47:20Speaker 1: She's really six months in and she's like, where's my purse?
- 47:24Speaker 2: She says she orders from Wish all the time so
- 47:26Speaker 2: she understands.
- 47:28Speaker 1: You do order things from weird parts of the world
- 47:30Speaker 1: all the time.
- 47:31Speaker 2: I can't help it.
- 47:31Speaker 1: They're cheap.
- 47:33Speaker 2: What about you? Did you experience anything? You were there.
- 47:35Speaker 2: You saw stuff too.
- 47:36Speaker 7: I did see stuff. I'm trying to think if there
- 47:40Speaker 7: were any standouts. Those boxes of sex things, the naughty boxes.
- 47:46Speaker 1: Maybe you wandered into a different part of the convention.
- 47:50Speaker 3: What?
- 47:50Speaker 1: Stocking up for Madam Duties. I understand. It's necessary. It's necessary.
- 47:55Speaker 7: No, we were just passing by and there were these boxes.
- 47:58Speaker 1: I think I do remember.
- 48:00Speaker 7: There was like a sign that says mystery boxes of
- 48:02Speaker 7: naughty things. And it was like $ 75 worth of naughty
- 48:05Speaker 7: things in this box for only $ 40.
- 48:06Speaker 1: I didn't see the price tag. They better be really
- 48:10Speaker 1: naughty because that's pricey.
- 48:11Speaker 7: They had written on the, like, so it was, like,
- 48:13Speaker 7: gift-wrapped boxes, but they looked like nobody had ever bought them.
- 48:17Speaker 7: So they've been, like, to convention after convention after convention.
- 48:20Speaker 2: They're, like, three inches of dust on them.
- 48:22Speaker 7: And, like, it's written in Sharpie on the box, like,
- 48:25Speaker 7: naughty things.
- 48:26Speaker 2: Is it the same one that had the Bob Ross box? Oh,
- 48:28Speaker 2: I missed that. That's the only thing I saw was
- 48:30Speaker 2: the Bob Ross box. I didn't see the Naughty Boxes.
- 48:32Speaker 2: That's like where my mind goes.
- 48:33Speaker 7: So it was like a box of Bob Ross? Wait,
- 48:37Speaker 7: I don't understand.
- 48:37Speaker 2: Was it like the very last, like in that back wall?
- 48:40Speaker 7: It was on the back wall. Or like the wall
- 48:41Speaker 7: with the concession.
- 48:42Speaker 2: Okay, I didn't see that one. I guess that's the side.
- 48:44Speaker 2: I was thinking of the one that was at the
- 48:45Speaker 2: very back, the very last aisle we went down. Because
- 48:47Speaker 2: they had like different mystery boxes. And they had a
- 48:51Speaker 2: box of Bob Ross things. And then they had like.
- 48:53Speaker 8: No, those were all toys.
- 48:54Speaker 2: Was it toys?
- 48:54Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean it had a Bob Ross.
- 48:56Speaker 2: Well, those were toys too.
- 48:57Speaker 6: No, these were.
- 48:59Speaker 1: We don't know. It was a wrapped box.
- 49:01Speaker 3: I know.
- 49:02Speaker 1: It started bouncing around all on its own.
- 49:05Speaker 8: Because it had like the list of everything that they had.
- 49:09Speaker 8: So they had like Minecraft, Bob Ross, Fortnite.
- 49:14Speaker 6: I don't know, whatever.
- 49:15Speaker 2: Like if you walk in the doors, it was the
- 49:17Speaker 2: back door.
- 49:17Speaker 6: I know which one it was.
- 49:19Speaker 2: I didn't see the naughty box.
- 49:21Speaker 7: There was a list of things that could be in
- 49:23Speaker 7: the box. Dirty pictures. It was very strange.
- 49:26Speaker 1: What else is on this list? I don't remember.
- 49:29Speaker 2: Polaroids.
- 49:30Speaker 1: We might have to drive back now. Hold on. This
- 49:34Speaker 1: might be a good idea.
- 49:34Speaker 6: Not Todd's Polaroids.
- 49:39Speaker 1: I think we've complained about Todd on the show before.
- 49:41Speaker 1: Let's not go down that road again.
- 49:42Speaker 2: It's not a pleasant road. You never experienced that, did you?
- 49:47Speaker 2: I don't know. You were lucky and you are blessed
- 49:49Speaker 2: because you did not have to see Todd's family photos.
- 49:52Speaker 7: I don't know if I know who Todd is.
- 49:53Speaker 2: You don't.
- 49:54Speaker 1: You are also lucky. It's probably best if we keep
- 49:56Speaker 1: it that way.
- 49:58Speaker 6: Hey, you want to see some pictures.
- 49:59Speaker 2: Of my uncle?
- 50:01Speaker 7: I'm going to have to go back in the archives.
- 50:05Speaker 1: So in addition we also got to talk to someone
- 50:09Speaker 1: awesome this week tom with an h he does have
- 50:12Speaker 1: an h matthews with one t just to be confusing
- 50:15Speaker 1: his matthews only has one t he's still awesome though
- 50:18Speaker 1: yeah i had a very specific tie-in with one of
- 50:21Speaker 1: his movies and and wanted to go on and on
- 50:23Speaker 1: about that so i'm sure if you know me you
- 50:26Speaker 1: know which movie i've been overly pleased with for the
- 50:29Speaker 1: entirety of my life since i saw it so So
- 50:32Speaker 1: let's go do that right now as we talk with
- 50:35Speaker 1: Tom Matthews. Yes!
- 50:41Speaker 5: Come on, baby, let's take a walk.
- 50:46Speaker 2: Don't be shy, you don't.
- 50:48Speaker 1: Have to talk.
- 50:50Speaker 5: Let's go, baby, come with me.
- 51:06Speaker 1: I always try to get kind of a start at
- 51:08Speaker 1: the beginning and get an idea of how everybody got
- 51:11Speaker 1: to where they are when they're following whatever it is,
- 51:15Speaker 1: whatever path, whatever their dream is. So I guess first off,
- 51:18Speaker 1: where were you born?
- 51:20Speaker 4: I was actually born, you're not going to believe that,
- 51:22Speaker 4: I was born on Hollywood Boulevard at the Hollywood Presbyterian.
- 51:27Speaker 4: And my two brothers and I had this very same doctor.
- 51:31Speaker 1: This has become, and that's kind of why I always
- 51:33Speaker 1: start there, because this has become an interesting game of, like,
- 51:37Speaker 1: how many people start in, like, Ohio and then make
- 51:39Speaker 1: their whole life a journey leading to Hollywood and L.A.
- 51:44Speaker 4: And then the.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Handful of people that were actually born there. And, you know,
- 51:46Speaker 1: so I guess what was the experience for you being, like,
- 51:50Speaker 1: Immersed in that from birth, like surrounded by the industry,
- 51:53Speaker 1: like it's a different feeling.
- 51:54Speaker 4: Well, my grandfather, yes. I was born on Hollywood Boulevard,
- 51:58Speaker 4: although I grew up in Covina with my family. They
- 52:02Speaker 4: bought a brand new house after the developer had taken down,
- 52:07Speaker 4: I think there was like orange fields out there. And
- 52:10Speaker 4: so that was a brand new house to my mom
- 52:12Speaker 4: and dad. And it was a ways out, probably a
- 52:15Speaker 4: 45-minute drive to Hollywood. where my grandparents lived, and my
- 52:19Speaker 4: grandfather was a carpenter, and he worked on the set
- 52:23Speaker 4: of some movies and stuff.
- 52:26Speaker 1: So... Eventually going to come full circle.
- 52:28Speaker 4: It sounds like. Yes, exactly. So I ended up.
- 52:30Speaker 1: We'll get to that later.
- 52:31Speaker 4: Yeah, I ended up growing up in Covina. My mom
- 52:36Speaker 4: and dad got divorced. My mom remarried a guy who
- 52:38Speaker 4: lived in Pasadena. So I spent my junior year in
- 52:42Speaker 4: high school in Pasadena, and then they separated... So I
- 52:47Speaker 4: went back full circle to my grandmother's. My mom moved
- 52:51Speaker 4: back to Covina with my sister. My younger brother and
- 52:54Speaker 4: I went to my grandmother's, who lived on Coinga Boulevard,
- 52:59Speaker 4: right in the heart of Hollywood. And I ended up
- 53:01Speaker 4: graduating from Fairfax High School and working at the farmer's market.
- 53:06Speaker 1: So at that point, had it already kind of occurred
- 53:08Speaker 1: to you? Were you involved in school plays? No. When
- 53:11Speaker 1: did it start as far as in town? Anything involving
- 53:15Speaker 1: acting or film.
- 53:16Speaker 4: Yeah, after high school, foundering, not really having a direction
- 53:21Speaker 4: in life. Still there. Not knowing. I had the talent
- 53:26Speaker 4: of a carpenter because unbeknownst to me, it actually had
- 53:30Speaker 4: a value to people because I always thought growing up,
- 53:34Speaker 4: I didn't give myself credit. I always thought whatever I knew,
- 53:37Speaker 4: everyone else knew because I knew it, so everyone else
- 53:39Speaker 4: must have known it.
- 53:39Speaker 1: You just observed it so much growing up that you
- 53:42Speaker 1: picked everything up?
- 53:43Speaker 7: Yes.
- 53:44Speaker 1: That is useful.
- 53:46Speaker 4: I took carpentry in high school and woodshop class and
- 53:51Speaker 4: stuff like that. I did some painting and stuff. It
- 53:55Speaker 4: was out of high school where a girlfriend of mine
- 53:59Speaker 4: suggested and it was the weirdest feeling. Normally when you
- 54:03Speaker 4: feel something You feel it in your gut?
- 54:05Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 54:06Speaker 4: Okay. This girlfriend at the time said, why don't you
- 54:09Speaker 4: become an actor? And it was literally like someone had
- 54:13Speaker 4: taken a needle and stuck it in my brain and
- 54:18Speaker 4: then exploded this thing inside my head. That was the
- 54:23Speaker 4: sensation I had. I've never had it since.
- 54:25Speaker 1: Obviously, it was something.
- 54:28Speaker 4: It was something. It was something weird because it wasn't
- 54:30Speaker 4: in my gut, which is normally how you.
- 54:34Speaker 4: Your instincts are in your gut.
- 54:36Speaker 1: I mean, you deserved it growing up. I mean, did
- 54:39Speaker 1: you have good or bad feelings at that point?
- 54:41Speaker 4: I had no thoughts about it. About acting? None at all.
- 54:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 54:44Speaker 4: It wasn't even a consideration.
- 54:46Speaker 1: Interesting.
- 54:46Speaker 4: Never even thought about it until she said it and
- 54:48Speaker 4: was like, bam, that's what I'll do. So I started
- 54:52Speaker 4: studying and I wasn't calling myself an actor because I
- 54:56Speaker 4: wasn't making any money at it.
- 54:58Speaker 1: That's an ongoing fight for most actors.
- 55:00Speaker 4: Or any profession, I guess.
- 55:02Speaker 1: Certainly in the arts.
- 55:04Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly. So that was a struggle and I kept
- 55:09Speaker 4: it under wraps. And then I started slowly doing commercials
- 55:14Speaker 4: and made the transition from my job over at Lorimar
- 55:18Speaker 4: Productions because I knew I went over there and got
- 55:22Speaker 4: a job over there and got my SAG cards through.
- 55:27Speaker 4: through Laura Marth to a casting director on Knot's Landing.
- 55:31Speaker 4: Her name was Dora Saba. And they tapped Hartley and
- 55:34Speaker 4: they gave me a walk on it. I had a
- 55:35Speaker 4: couple of lines.
- 55:37Speaker 1: That was huge at that point.
- 55:39Speaker 4: For me, it was huge. And just being around, you know,
- 55:42Speaker 4: I made a conscious decision to go work at Laura Marth,
- 55:46Speaker 4: to be around it and stuff like that. And then,
- 55:48Speaker 4: you know, I just started slowly getting some jobs. I
- 55:51Speaker 4: did some print work as a transition from commercials... in
- 55:57Speaker 4: my daytime job. And so that kind of sustained me
- 56:00Speaker 4: for a while. Did very well in commercial work. For
- 56:05Speaker 4: a three-year period, I got every 10th commercial I went
- 56:08Speaker 4: out on, which was great. Yeah, that's compared to most.
- 56:11Speaker 4: Made it fun going to the mailbox every day. And
- 56:15Speaker 4: then in between that, I started doing my carpentry stuff.
- 56:20Speaker 4: Because I hated sitting around waiting for phone calls to
- 56:24Speaker 4: Go do auditions and stuff. So I had to keep busy.
- 56:27Speaker 1: I think that's what's changed in the industry now because
- 56:30Speaker 1: everything is so potentially you can start doing things yourself.
- 56:35Speaker 1: Like there's so many actors and directors that are just like,
- 56:38Speaker 1: all right, well, fine. We have the equipment. Like, let's
- 56:39Speaker 1: just go do it. Where you couldn't do that in
- 56:42Speaker 1: like 70s and 80s. You didn't have that option. You
- 56:44Speaker 1: had to sit and wait for the phone or go
- 56:46Speaker 1: get another job.
- 56:47Speaker 9: Right.
- 56:47Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 56:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 56:49Speaker 1: Well, then, I guess, again, I'm definitely going to head
- 56:51Speaker 1: towards horror. I mean, was there other stuff coming up
- 56:54Speaker 1: before then, or were you already interested in horror that
- 56:57Speaker 1: early on? Not at all. Yeah?
- 57:00Speaker 4: The first movie I ever got was The Woman in Red.
- 57:02Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:05Speaker 4: Met Gene Wildery, hired me on the spot, did that,
- 57:08Speaker 4: and then I got Return of the Living Dead.
- 57:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:10Speaker 4: And it was just a gig, you know? I was
- 57:13Speaker 4: just happy to get working. And then that experience... I
- 57:17Speaker 4: was going out reading for stuff, and I went and
- 57:23Speaker 4: read for Stonzie Stokes, who is the casting director. He
- 57:27Speaker 4: put us on tape, and I didn't hear anything. Thought
- 57:33Speaker 4: I didn't get the part. Nine months go by. Nine
- 57:37Speaker 4: months go by. They call me back for a callback,
- 57:40Speaker 4: I thought. So I go in. Nobody's around. Very minimal
- 57:45Speaker 4: people at the casting office. That's weird. There's usually more
- 57:48Speaker 4: people than this. When I found out when I was
- 57:50Speaker 4: there that they had cast me and I was reading
- 57:53Speaker 4: for actresses opposite my character. I was reading for actresses
- 57:58Speaker 4: for Tina.
- 57:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 57:59Speaker 4: So there was several actresses there and they were, they're
- 58:03Speaker 4: reading opposite me, but I had already been cast and
- 58:05Speaker 4: that's how I found out. And I'm not sure why
- 58:07Speaker 4: my agent didn't tell me or didn't know. And the
- 58:09Speaker 4: nine month period between my first audition with Stonzie to
- 58:14Speaker 4: my callback was because there was some legal issues with
- 58:17Speaker 4: the name yeah that was uh that was the issue.
- 58:20Speaker 1: I mean it was a totally different screenplay early on
- 58:23Speaker 1: by the time you got it and this this definitely
- 58:25Speaker 1: i have my own personal weird tie into the movie
- 58:27Speaker 1: because i came here from louisville so was the was
- 58:31Speaker 1: that ending in the original screenplay that you read were
- 58:35Speaker 1: they again spoilers for this movie that hopefully by now
- 58:39Speaker 1: you've all seen but the the destruction of the city
- 58:41Speaker 1: of louisville It's kind of the big finale of the movie,
- 58:45Speaker 1: or a good portion of it. So, like, yeah, that.
- 58:47Speaker 4: And I hear there's a rivalry between Lexington and Louisville.
- 58:50Speaker 1: Yeah, they like to think that.
- 58:53Speaker 4: They were thrilled when the bomb went off. Some guy
- 58:56Speaker 4: told me at the time.
- 58:58Speaker 1: No, that doesn't surprise me. There's a little... It's usually sports,
- 59:01Speaker 1: so geeks like us.
- 59:02Speaker 4: Yes, exactly.
- 59:03Speaker 1: Geeks are fine.
- 59:03Speaker 4: It was under the guise of the sports thing.
- 59:06Speaker 1: The sports rivalry has been there since birth. But for geeks,
- 59:09Speaker 1: we all get along. Because, yeah, Scarefest has always been fun. So, yeah,
- 59:13Speaker 1: I enjoy coming to Lexington. But there was such a
- 59:16Speaker 1: personal tie-in. And, again, especially watching it growing up, I
- 59:18Speaker 1: was just like, that's weird. Because they don't mention my
- 59:21Speaker 1: city in most other movies. So, like, that was such
- 59:24Speaker 1: a weird. And I ended up doing, I ended up writing, like,
- 59:27Speaker 1: a whole story for our one of the papers back
- 59:29Speaker 1: home that was, like, I titled it Zombies Ate My City.
- 59:34Speaker 1: Because after, and I don't know that you know this,
- 59:36Speaker 1: but afterwards, like, the entire city, like, slowly, I think
- 59:40Speaker 1: it's because so many kids grew up watching it at
- 59:42Speaker 1: VHS and cable, like, it became a weird, like, obsession. And, like,
- 59:46Speaker 1: we became, like, one of the first cities that started
- 59:48Speaker 1: doing one of those ridiculous zombie walks that now is huge,
- 59:51Speaker 1: and they do a huge one in Pittsburgh now and
- 59:54Speaker 1: everywhere else, but Louisville was one of the first ones,
- 59:57Speaker 1: and they started doing zombie proms and all these other
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: weird things that there was such an undercurrent of zombie
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: love for Louisville.
- 1:00:05Speaker 4: It's unclear as to why Dan abandoned pick Louisville. I
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: don't have the answer to it. We can't ask him
- 1:00:13Speaker 4: now because he's passed, but Bill Stout, who was the.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: Wait, I've talked to Bill. He's the best option we have.
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: He might have the answer to that question.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: The only thing I came up with, and again, when
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: I was writing that, I kept trying to do some
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: sort of research, even though Dan was gone. And the
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: best I came up with is if you... I think
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: the middle time they released it on DVD, they did
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: a commentary with Dan while he was still around. And
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: somewhere in the middle of the movie, he goes... And
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: I picked Louisville because, you know, it's just kind of
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: a normal city. Like, I think he didn't want it
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: to be.
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: There's your answer.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: He didn't want it to be New York. He didn't
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: want it to be L.A. He wanted it to be
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: just an average city, and we were average as you
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: could get. So, yeah, I think.
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: That's... I mean, there must have been something, his experience
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: with Louisville, or he passed through it on a road trip, or.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: I think he had a connection.
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: There has to be something.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: It was also, I think, William Stout had a connection, too.
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: So I think it was an inside track.
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: Diane O'Bannon might know.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: Yeah, wouldn't it be like a joke of let's kill
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: all our friends in Louisville? Because I think they did
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: have weird connections. But yeah, I think that was sort of.
- 1:01:13Speaker 4: Something bad in Louisville didn't happen to Diane O'Bannon, so
- 1:01:16Speaker 4: we didn't want to blow it up.
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: We'll show you. Blow up the whole city. So, yeah,
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: that was just such an amazing, like, experience from that end.
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: Yeah, sure.
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: But on your end, I guess, because I was marked
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: that as such a weird dividing point in horror and
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: zombie subgenre stuff.
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: For good reason, because we had fast-moving zombies.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: Fast zombies.
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: And we also had one of my favorite scenes in
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: Return of the Living Dead is, you know, the half-corpse
- 1:01:41Speaker 4: where Dawn Kalfa has a conversation with her and her
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: spine's Jumping back and forth and, you know, why do
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: you eat people? Not people.
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: Brains.
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: Such a creepy, great scene.
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: But it gave almost a rationale.
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly.
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: Like pain. Yeah.
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: Something we could relate to.
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: It's kind of amazing. I mean, that is something that
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: it's also got that comedic tone that you really didn't
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: see in a ton of horror movies at the time.
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: Oh, absolutely.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Everyone was super serious.
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: It's a dark comedy. Yeah, it's certainly a dark comedy.
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: But the comedic tones come out of the situations, not
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: because of anything we're doing.
- 1:02:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:02:25Speaker 4: As like in part two, they kind of went for
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: the gag.
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: It's all comedic, yeah.
- 1:02:29Speaker 4: It didn't work, in my opinion. But, yeah, part one,
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: that's the genius of it. I mean, you were laughing
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: at the situations, not because of anything that we're doing.
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: And specifically with you, I think it's also such great
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: chemistry with our three guys, but especially, like, you and Frank.
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: It's such a great.
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: Jimmy Caron and myself.
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: Well, we have the same birthday. We found out on
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: part two that we have the same birthday, so maybe
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: that had something to.
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: Do yeah and that was I think what was really
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: interesting too was because it brings in like everything in
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: the 80s was punk rock kids you know everything started
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: getting centered which I thought was always very progressive for
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: Louisville we did have actually we had a pretty and
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: it continued on.
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: I lived in LA at the time and we had
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: a big uh punk rock.
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: Yeah i mean yeah la definitely was like influential but
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: like like louisville had this weird underground scene that continued
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: on like all the way through like the mid 90s
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: there were kids putting together like independent productions that are
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: still considered some of the best punk rock music out
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: there so like it did have a weird but i
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: always thought like we would usually get cast as a
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: bunch of hillbillies so the fact that we got to
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: be punk rock kids was also cool growing up i
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: was like oh we got to be the cool kids
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: so that's awesome but the other thing that was really
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: interesting was that dynamic because it's totally different generations i
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: mean you're you're a teenager essentially and like you've got
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: this older guy you don't normally see that pairing together
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: and you guys.
- 1:03:50Speaker 4: Worked so well together thank you yeah and you have
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: a good friend.
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: I will, one of my favorite lines in the whole
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: movie is, you, and it's all delivery as far as
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: I'm concerned. And again, it's the throw-off line, but to me, the,
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: like this job.
- 1:04:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I actually came up with that. That wasn't even scripted.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: That's what I wanted to ask. I was like, where
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: did that come from? Because it's all delivery.
- 1:04:12Speaker 4: It was like the most insane, if you like this job,
- 1:04:15Speaker 4: like this job.
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: Like this job.
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: Are you in your freaking mind?
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: Oh, God, I love that part. So, but yeah, so
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: that's such.
- 1:04:23Speaker 4: Yeah, Bert, we have a problem.
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: They're intrigued and that's why I think that's such an
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: interesting movie in general is the way that you have
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: to deal with like this can't be happening but you're
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: I mean when the paramedics come it's like this can't
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: be happening but we're sitting here looking at it we're
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: looking at these two guys that are like you know
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: not registering on any of our instruments like it's an
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: interesting little dynamic that again I hadn't really seen in
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: horror at that point so it's I feel like it's
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: super groundbreaking but Yeah.
- 1:04:53Speaker 4: And something else I've never seen in horror that I
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: felt in that movie is when the yellow corpse gets
- 1:04:58Speaker 4: out of the ice chest, we let him out. Frank's
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: supposed to hit him over the head. He goes running
- 1:05:03Speaker 4: past and, uh, uh, gets burnt. And then, uh, um,
- 1:05:08Speaker 4: we get him down. We cut off his head.
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:05:11Speaker 4: Now for me, when I'm, as, as I'm watching the
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: movie and I said this today at a panel, um,
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: It's so gross, but I'm laughing at the same time.
- 1:05:22Speaker 4: So I'm jerking my head back and forth trying to
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: watch it, but laughing at the same time because I
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: can't watch it because it's so gross. We're cutting this
- 1:05:28Speaker 4: guy's head off. And then he freaking gets up and
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: starts running around.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: Still running around.
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: The dogs and the butterflies.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: Oh, the dog. It's disturbing and yet funny as he
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: hits it with the crutch and it's still yuck. It's
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: still rough.
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: But I've never felt that in a movie. Just laughing
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: and then like, oh, that's just so disgusting.
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: Disgusted at the same time. Definitely, yeah.
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: So much great stuff in it. Just really so much fun.
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: I think it didn't get the recognition it deserved at
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: the time, but I think it had such an influence
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: on horror after that. Oh, it did.
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: I mean, I ask people today, I say, what do
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: zombies eat? And 80% of them will say, well, brains.
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: And I go, do you know why you know that?
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: Where did that come from?
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: And they say, no. I said, have you seen Return
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: of the Living Dead? They'll say no.
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: And I said, it's because of that movie.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean.
- 1:06:17Speaker 4: Big part of Pulp Culture now.
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: Night of the Living Dead is Night of the Flesh Eaters. Like,
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: they were eating guts and all kinds of weird... So
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: it was, yeah, it was.
- 1:06:24Speaker 4: That's what the other 20% say. Yeah.
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: They're older.
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: They don't know what they're talking about. That's what Dan
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: O'Bannon came in. So that's the other one. Like, because
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: now we have no real... We can't really ask him
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: any questions. I guess, what was your take on him
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: as a director? Like, what was it like working with him?
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: You know, to me, he was great. I hear that
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: he wasn't kind to other actors, but I think he
- 1:06:46Speaker 4: saw it myself as him in the movie.
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: As a young upstart and the through line of the movie,
- 1:06:53Speaker 4: I think. So he was very generous to me. Very,
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: normally writers will have you stick to their script because
- 1:07:03Speaker 4: they painstakingly, you know, poured over.
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: And he was a good writer. It's not like he, yeah.
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: But he was very giving and whenever we wanted to,
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: bring something up or change something, he would listen to
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: it and we would talk it out.
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:07:18Speaker 4: And let us improvise whenever we thought it would, you know,
- 1:07:23Speaker 4: work and it did and he was very generous that way.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: That's amazing.
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: Good for him because that's, to let actors use themselves
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: and make every, the more honest it can be, the
- 1:07:34Speaker 4: better it is, it transcends over to the film.
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: But I mean, I guess it, Again, it's bittersweet because
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: it didn't make the impact you guys wanted, I'm sure,
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: at the time. It found its.
- 1:07:45Speaker 4: Audience years later.
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: Or Orion.
- 1:07:47Speaker 4: Orion put a lot of money in the prints and
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: ads for that movie.
- 1:07:50Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: And going through the weird legal issues in the early days.
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: And so I'm sure they were in the hole on
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: that one. So, yeah, it's such a shame it didn't
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: get the recognition it needed. So I guess that leads
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: you towards still looking for more work, which... right again
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: got into another area this is weird timing because i
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: just met with like one of our uh he was
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: guest on the show recently and he's been listening for
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: years and he was he was specifically one of his
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: favorite episodes was when i sat down with albert pune
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: so then i was looking through i was like you're
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: in all of this so i was like i guess
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: was it right after that you ended up with like
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: was the first time working with him yes how did
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: you meet him i guess uh He's always been there.
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: I'm not sure how his radar came. I was just
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: an actor looking for work, and I think the first
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: thing I did for him was Dangerously Close with John
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: Stockwell and Don Michael Paul was in it and a
- 1:08:45Speaker 4: bunch of other people. And just auditioned, and I remember
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: being an early or a young actor, and he had
- 1:08:55Speaker 4: called us in to read, and he was... reading other
- 1:09:00Speaker 4: actors with you know other actors and he kept us
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: there forever for like six seven hours.
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: And I.
- 1:09:10Speaker 4: Come to find out why he did that he said
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: he did that because he wanted to see how our
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: attitude was if we were there for six or seven hours.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: And He definitely had his own style.
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: See if we didn't bolt out the doors. F this,
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: I'm taking off. So whoever stuck around and I was
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: one of them got the job.
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: Nice. But right there it shows how he later would,
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: people would have stories about him. That sounds about right.
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: So I went on to do like 11 movies with Albert.
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: A lot of them were great.
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: But he.
- 1:09:42Speaker 4: Very generous. I mean, creatively, whatever I would come up with,
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: bounce it off him and.
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: And was such a relaxed... Again, hearing stories about him.
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: Totally relaxed.
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: Hearing how many projects he'd been throwing off.
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: I never saw him raise his voice at all. Not once.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: And I was... Again, he'd done a ton of just
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: sort of fun, schlocky kind of, as far as topic,
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: and get into cult movies. But when I sat him down,
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: I was like, let's talk about a movie. Your influences.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: He talked at great length about 2001. And I.
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: How much he was influenced by that and how like the,
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: just like the artistry behind it. And I'm just like,
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: this is why I love talking about this stuff. Cause these,
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: I mean, these guys all draw from the same love
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: of film, love of the arts. And I'm like, no
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: matter if you're making driving movies or not, like he
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: was such a really great, like committed, you know, he was,
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: and the.
- 1:10:37Speaker 4: Things that he, he filmed and wrote about were totally
- 1:10:40Speaker 4: opposite of who he was as a person, which was,
- 1:10:43Speaker 4: Just another fun fact about Albert. He's just such a
- 1:10:47Speaker 4: mellow guy. It's from Hawaii.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: Could have been a surfer. I don't know. Definitely could
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: have been smoking weed. I don't think so, but he
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: was just that kind of laid back. Not to say
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: that he ever smoked weed that I ever saw.
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: He was very laid back, though. I'll give him that.
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah. So that kind of vibe. Like I said,
- 1:11:09Speaker 4: I never saw him ever. raise his voice. And there
- 1:11:11Speaker 4: was a lot to raise his voice about, I think
- 1:11:13Speaker 4: back in the day, trying to get stuff done.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Listening to that story. I think he just had
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: his own style and his own approach towards things. And
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: he wanted it done that way for, again, he had reasons,
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: even if no one else understood them.
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: So, yeah, I remember, I remember being cast in a
- 1:11:29Speaker 4: blood match and, uh, I was, I was negotiating with
- 1:11:36Speaker 4: the production office and, It's the first day of shooting.
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: My deal hadn't been signed yet. I picked up Benny
- 1:11:44Speaker 4: Ukides because we lived close by, I found out. Benny's amazing.
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: I'm driving him up. We're going to the set. It's
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: about an hour and a half drive outside of L.A.
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: and my agent calls and says something didn't happen, so
- 1:12:01Speaker 4: I call the production office, and I am freaking screaming.
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: This is how it's going to be. I'm on the phone.
- 1:12:08Speaker 4: I'm taking Benny Uke. I'm driving him up there right now. Now,
- 1:12:12Speaker 4: you motherfuckers, if you don't get this done, boom, I
- 1:12:14Speaker 4: want this amount, and make it happen. I hang up
- 1:12:18Speaker 4: the phone, and Benny looks over to me and goes, wow,
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: that was great, and then I got the call, Half
- 1:12:24Speaker 4: an hour before we were supposed to show up from
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: my agent. Yeah, it cleared the bank.
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: You became a producer.
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: Yes, exactly.
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: You made sure this got done. Well, again, just because
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: you brought it up, I was definitely headed that way.
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: How early on did you get involved in martial arts?
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: Because you're definitely like, not only are you the lead
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: by the time you get to that film, but you're
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: fighting against some of the greatest.
- 1:12:47Speaker 4: Kickboxers in the world. There was one guy, his nickname
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: was Bear Bear. 6'5. Were you prepared for that? He
- 1:12:57Speaker 4: was a monster. I got a great still where I'd
- 1:13:00Speaker 4: give him a rich hand. That's where your hand's flat
- 1:13:02Speaker 4: and you hit him in the throat.
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:13:03Speaker 4: Right in the throat. And he's like parallel on the mat.
- 1:13:07Speaker 4: And I'm like, it's a great shot. It's a great still.
- 1:13:12Speaker 4: I learned martial arts so I could kick the shit
- 1:13:14Speaker 4: out of my older brother.
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: That is a good reason.
- 1:13:16Speaker 4: Because he was very mean to me, I felt, growing up. But,
- 1:13:21Speaker 4: you know, I never did.
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: Did it work? Did you eventually get to?
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: No, I never did.
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: Is it too late?
- 1:13:27Speaker 7: Can you do it now?
- 1:13:29Speaker 4: I could. But that's why I studied.
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: So you at least.
- 1:13:33Speaker 4: So I was very flexible.
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: Came in with a little.
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: Trust me, any one of those guys I worked with
- 1:13:38Speaker 4: could have kicked my ass.
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: No, no, you were the star. Yeah, even the girl. Yeah, well,
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: that's usually how that goes. But, yeah, that's definitely getting
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: into a whole. Because then you come back for, like,
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: the Kickboxer 4. So, like, it was its own. It
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: was such a huge subgenre then. Yeah.
- 1:13:56Speaker 4: Had a great death in Kickboxer 4. The knife in
- 1:13:58Speaker 4: the head. Oh, there's a funny story about that. He
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: throws the knife in the head. And I fall out
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: of frame. Just a dead man drop. Because I'm trying
- 1:14:07Speaker 4: to grab it as I'm going down. Missing it, of course.
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: I was going to pull it out of my head,
- 1:14:11Speaker 4: I guess. is what I was thinking.
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: Just don't land on it.
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: So we rehearsed it a couple times. They put a
- 1:14:17Speaker 4: mattress down. So when we actually went to go shoot it,
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: I went grabbing at it, and I fell back. Dead
- 1:14:23Speaker 4: man drop. I missed the mattress. And I hear all
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: this stunt guy goes, ooh.
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: Yeah, if you're impressing stuntmen with your injuries, that's impressive.
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: I hurt myself. I felt that the next day it
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: was like moving up my spine. I did have a little,
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: you know.
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: It's Albert's fault. We're blaming him.
- 1:14:46Speaker 4: Should have been the stunt guy that just had somebody
- 1:14:48Speaker 4: on the mattress. But that was a fun movie.
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: Well, we did skip over. I had to at least
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: work in, I mean, for so many fans. And this
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: is one of the ones I wanted to get into.
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: I mean, Friday the 13th is just one of the quintessential,
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: like the most like ridiculously... enduring series and and there's
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: really i mean there's almost no other characters outside of
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: jason that continue on except tommy so the fact that
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: you got to play one of the tommy's like in
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: yeah as the most grown-up of tommy's i mean again
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: how much did you know about that series going into
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: it and that role.
- 1:15:25Speaker 4: I knew absolutely nothing about it and i got the
- 1:15:28Speaker 4: part and then i went and looked at part five
- 1:15:31Speaker 4: and i was very different i was scared yeah i
- 1:15:34Speaker 4: I was terrified.
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: Five is a weird turn anyway. You'd be better off
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: with four, maybe.
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: Yeah, but I was trying to see. I was looking
- 1:15:41Speaker 4: at Tommy Jarvis to see if I could pick up
- 1:15:43Speaker 4: any mannerisms or anything that I should carry over into
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: part six.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: Yeah, you don't want to get Corey Feldman mannerisms. Nobody
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: wants that.
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: Well, he was a younger kid. And John was, you know,
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: more closer to my age at the time.
- 1:15:56Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: And so I was like, oh, my God, what have
- 1:15:59Speaker 4: I gotten myself into? And then I met Tom. Uh,
- 1:16:03Speaker 4: and we talked, talked it out and stuff. So, and
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: his vision was, you know, there was no wet t-shirt
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: contest in his.
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: It is definitely a lot more serious take on it.
- 1:16:14Speaker 8: Yes.
- 1:16:15Speaker 4: And how it was filmed. I mean, uh, the cinematography was,
- 1:16:19Speaker 4: was great and the story was great and, you know, the, the,
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: had character development.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: Yeah. More than a lot of even in the others
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: in that series.
- 1:16:29Speaker 4: Much, much more. And they should have continued that theme
- 1:16:35Speaker 4: going throughout the series, in my opinion.
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, Seven takes his own weird turn, but
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: it would have been nice to kind of see what
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: else we could do. Yeah. And write him into.
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: Because you had somebody to root for finally.
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:16:45Speaker 4: As opposed to just watching somebody get sliced up.
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: And and an odd again because i guess you had
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: that weird tie-in to him from the earlier films but
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: you know there's hardly ever a final guy so to
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: have it was such a different turn even for 80s
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: slasher kind of stuff it was it was an odd
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: and interesting way to take it like i yeah the
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: other thing i'm and this is just an ongoing because
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: you know we're here at a core convention people are
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: so committed to that jason character You've been immersed in
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: it ever since then. Like, what is it?
- 1:17:16Speaker 4: Well, Kane, Hodder was in 7, 8, 9, 10. Yeah.
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: He gave me a nice compliment. He goes, whenever they
- 1:17:22Speaker 4: think of Jason, they also think of Tommy Jarvis now
- 1:17:24Speaker 4: because of you. I said, well, thank you.
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: That's the only other. Again, you don't think of any
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: of those other kids from the earlier movies. And the
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: last couple, nobody even remembers any of them. So, yeah,
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: they're all just faceless victims. And Tommy's, you know, the
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: through line. Yeah. But I'm just trying to figure out
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: what's so enduring about the Jason character, like in horror,
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: because it's such a go-to for everybody that's a horror fan.
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: And I've yet to feel like... You're right.
- 1:17:50Speaker 4: He's kind of the springboard of everything.
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: Else, right?
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: And like the token. Like if you're going to come
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: here and put a t-shirt on, you'll slap on a
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: Jason t-shirt. And it's like, it's the most generic version,
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: but the fans are so.
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: Dedicated to it. It's crazy. The fans are so dedicated
- 1:18:05Speaker 4: to it. The horror fans are just... dedicated fans period
- 1:18:09Speaker 4: yeah i mean it's just really intense.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: I mean you've been in a lot of other non-horror
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: stuff but has that been like the the most love
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: that you've had as.
- 1:18:17Speaker 4: Far as fan base absolutely well uh uh venny gustafaro
- 1:18:22Speaker 4: who was in uh part six he played the sheriff
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: yeah he's been in some heavy duty films in his
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: in his career and he says the horror fans are
- 1:18:33Speaker 4: just like The best, to just go out of the
- 1:18:36Speaker 4: way from, I mean, this is not just in the state,
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: this is from all over the world. I mean, I
- 1:18:41Speaker 4: get fan mail from, and people reaching out to me
- 1:18:44Speaker 4: on Facebook from Brazil and Germany and Iceland, and it's
- 1:18:49Speaker 4: just all over.
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: It touches a nerve in a weird way.
- 1:18:52Speaker 4: It is and they don't know each other yeah which
- 1:18:55Speaker 4: is the weird thing well even people.
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: With like huge resumes i mean you're next to kluger
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: out there like going back to like how early on
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: he's in his westerns and like but still like so
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: many fans like that's the go-to like they're still like
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: Return of the Living Dead is still like the first
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: thing that they think of for him, even though he's
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: been in so much stuff over the years. So, yeah,
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: it's just kind of amazing that the horror fan base
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: is like.
- 1:19:19Speaker 4: He's got that cameo, too, that just came out in
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: Quentin's movie.
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: So, but yeah.
- 1:19:25Speaker 4: Well, he's the guy. He actually, that was his life.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: Quentin's movie about the two cowboys was Clue's life.
- 1:19:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:19:32Speaker 4: So, nod to him.
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: He's a fascinating guy. Well, then, I mean, you mentioned, too,
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: that's the only other one I definitely like. How did
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: it come about that you ended up in the second
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: Return of the Living Dead?
- 1:19:44Speaker 4: Well, I'll tell you.
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: As different characters, mind you. I'll tell you.
- 1:19:47Speaker 4: Give me a second. It came about because they had
- 1:19:51Speaker 4: the script for part two, and the producers were shopping around.
- 1:19:56Speaker 4: So how you get money... To make your movie is
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: you sell the rights to the distributors overseas.
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: Yeah, overseas is where most of the money comes in.
- 1:20:07Speaker 4: So when they were doing that, Return 1 was a big,
- 1:20:12Speaker 4: huge hit in Japan. So the distributors said, yes, we'll
- 1:20:17Speaker 4: give you some money, a bunch of money to make
- 1:20:20Speaker 4: Part 2 if we get the rights to distribute it.
- 1:20:23Speaker 4: But you have to have Jimmy Caron and Tom Matthews
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: come back in some capacity. And they go, oh, okay.
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: It's going to be a little hard, kind of.
- 1:20:33Speaker 4: That's how we came back.
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: It's almost like, again, it makes sense that it came
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: from needing to get funding, weird overseas fan base. Because, yeah,
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: it would just confuse most viewers, I would think. And
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: probably did. But now it's just sort of a weird
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: inside joke. But it's a strange move on their part.
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: So I just wondered how it came together.
- 1:20:56Speaker 4: That's how it came about. And again, young actor, I
- 1:21:00Speaker 4: was happy just to be working.
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: Another paycheck, we'll take. Exactly. Do you have any stuff?
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: I know you're still kind of active in that and
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: in your original job as well. So do you have
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: stuff you want to tell people?
- 1:21:13Speaker 4: I have, yeah. I have, funny enough, next week, I
- 1:21:17Speaker 4: shot two movies last year. One was called Killer Therapy
- 1:21:22Speaker 4: and I shot them back to back. I actually had
- 1:21:24Speaker 4: to turn down the second one because it was a conflict.
- 1:21:27Speaker 4: But then they pushed the schedule to accommodate my schedule,
- 1:21:31Speaker 4: so I did Killer Therapy, which is co-written and directed
- 1:21:38Speaker 4: by Barry Jay, who was the executive producer on Never
- 1:21:41Speaker 4: Hike Alone.
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:21:43Speaker 4: That's more of a horror-based film, and that'll be out
- 1:21:50Speaker 4: next month, October 16th, is when we're having the premiere
- 1:21:54Speaker 4: in L.A., But next week, the movie I did after
- 1:21:57Speaker 4: that called Warpath, which is a Western, takes place in 1890.
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: We're having a screening, the worldwide premiere in Detroit because
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: that's where we shot it next week. And then I've
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: got another movie I'm starting in the first week of
- 1:22:14Speaker 4: November called Staying Free. And my character is a guy
- 1:22:18Speaker 4: who goes up and cleans up after crime scenes. Bloody...
- 1:22:21Speaker 4: gruesome get rid of the bodies yeah get rid of
- 1:22:24Speaker 4: the blood that is a job anyone there is check
- 1:22:28Speaker 4: it out on youtube there's people who actually do that
- 1:22:30Speaker 4: for the police and it's not the police who call
- 1:22:32Speaker 4: them in it's the family members i found out yeah.
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: They just leave you with the mess essentially they take
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: the body and leave you with the mess yeah it's
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: not exactly it's not a fun situation to be in
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: i assume so i guess you need a professional to
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: come in and Do you want people to find you
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: online or to find out details?
- 1:22:49Speaker 4: I've got a fan page on Facebook.
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: Yeah. So just follow you there.
- 1:22:53Speaker 4: They can follow me there.
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: Sounds good.
- 1:22:55Speaker 4: You can post everything, whatever's going on with me, whatever
- 1:22:58Speaker 4: convention I'm at or a month before I'm going to
- 1:23:01Speaker 4: be there and ask people to stop by if they're around.
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: Definitely come by and tell you hello and come get
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: some photos.
- 1:23:07Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:23:07Speaker 4: Perfect.
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: All right. Well, thank you for being with us, man.
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: That's been great.
- 1:23:10Speaker 4: My pleasure. Talk to you soon.
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: I like the third one zombies ate my city i
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: did a ridiculous amount of research.
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: But they weren't even really here were.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: They no but the effect that that movie had on
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: a city that it didn't take place i mean the
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: yeah it wasn't shot in but like the story took
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: place in and every kid sitting in that city went
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: wait did they just say what what like it blew
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: everyone's minds collectively in one town The day it hit
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: cable because nobody saw the theater, essentially. But yeah, I
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: don't think we were ever the same. So that was
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: my whole study as I wrote my my think piece
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: was like the effect that it had, like how exactly
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: it happened. And then the years and years of continual
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: effects that it had on these kids growing up in
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: this town that had been completely obliterated by zombies.
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: Did you ask him if he was ever actually been
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: to Louisville, Kentucky?
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: He was near it today.
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: Is today the closest he's ever been?
- 1:24:29Speaker 3: Probably.
- 1:24:31Speaker 8: See, I always thought it actually took place in Louisville
- 1:24:33Speaker 8: for the longest time before the internet.
- 1:24:35Speaker 6: Everybody was like, it happened at Cave Hill Cemetery.
- 1:24:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I know.
- 1:24:39Speaker 6: Everybody thinks that.
- 1:24:39Speaker 8: And we'd run around Cave Hill and try to figure
- 1:24:41Speaker 8: out where in Cave Hill. And then somebody finally was like, no, it.
- 1:24:46Speaker 6: Didn't happen in Cave Hill.
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: Because he was still alive.
- 1:24:48Speaker 6: You know, you're full of crap.
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: It did too. Yeah.
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: You turn left at the magician and then.
- 1:24:55Speaker 6: And the witch's headstone.
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: These are all real places. If you want to come
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: down to Cave Hill Cemetery, it is pretty cool and creepy.
- 1:25:02Speaker 8: Isn't the witch's headstone behind the.
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: It's not actually in the cemetery. It's like behind... It's
- 1:25:06Speaker 2: not like in the actual part of it anymore, I
- 1:25:08Speaker 2: don't think.
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: Yeah, they put it back in the back somewhere. And
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: now that I think about it, we've also recorded at
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: Cave Hill Cemetery, so go check out the previous episode.
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: We weren't there. So don't bother. That's your fault.
- 1:25:21Speaker 5: No.
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: I mean, we weren't there for the podcast.
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: I was trying to think of that. Never.
- 1:25:27Speaker 7: Who was there? I know I was supposed to be there,
- 1:25:29Speaker 7: but then there was like a crazy windstorm that kept
- 1:25:32Speaker 7: me from being there.
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: Are you sure it wasn't zombies? Exactly.
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:25:36Speaker 7: You have a lot of crazy natural disasters that come
- 1:25:38Speaker 7: after you. Yeah.
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure. So thank you to Tom for sitting
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: down and talking with me and he had some cool stories.
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: And so yeah, go support him. Go find him at
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: Whatever convention he's at and go say hi. And you
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: heard him on Movie Meltdown and then go buy some photos.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: So support him in his future efforts. Watch your tongue, boy,
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: if you like this job.
- 1:25:58Speaker 9: Like this job.
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: Well, if nothing else, also thank you to Scarefest for
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: letting us come be part of the show. Once again,
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: these many, many years were always kind of there hanging
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: out at Scarefest.
- 1:26:10Speaker 7: It's always a delight.
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: It's very fun.
- 1:26:13Speaker 7: It's a very well-run festival.
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: They know what they're doing. They know their target audience.
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: They kind of stick with it, and they've figured out
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: the best way to put these things together. So, yep,
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: it's always well run. So, to find out what's going
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: on for next time, go to thescarefest.com, and you can
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: be part of all of this craziness.
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: I just have one request at Scarefest. I would bring
- 1:26:37Speaker 2: back Josh Gates, because when they brought him here years ago,
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: I didn't care about his show. But now that I
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: love his show, they need to bring Josh Gates back.
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: Again, it's all about you. It is always. Everything revolves
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: around me. I understand. What is the show?
- 1:26:51Speaker 8: He has two different- In Search Of and Destination- He
- 1:26:54Speaker 8: does not do In Search Of.
- 1:26:55Speaker 6: Oh, wait, no.
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: Sorry.
- 1:26:56Speaker 4: Duh.
- 1:26:57Speaker 8: I mean, Destination Truth and Expedition Unknown.
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: And he goes to different- He travels to different places
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: where they have creepy things or- mysterious things and tries
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: to figure out what's going on. Or if there's hidden treasure,
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: he wants to find it and it's always beer cans.
- 1:27:14Speaker 2: I thought that they're digging and it's a beer can.
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: Or it's a nail.
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: Did he ever open Al Cabone's vault? Probably. That went
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: about that same way.
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: Beer cans. But he's always so hopeful.
- 1:27:26Speaker 6: I've already talked to him about what I need to
- 1:27:28Speaker 6: talk to him about.
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: Are they beer cans from Lee Major's garage?
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: Let's not go down that road. We told that story
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: a few times today. If you guys need that, write in.
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: We can do a fancy Lee Major's episode. No, it'll
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: just be a Richie episode.
- 1:27:46Speaker 2: He did that episode.
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: If you're old school, you've heard the Richie episode.
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: We already did a Richie episode. He was on the
- 1:27:51Speaker 2: show before.
- 1:27:52Speaker 8: I know, but you should totally bring Richie back for
- 1:27:55Speaker 8: an episode. Oh, he just met Quentin Tarantino.
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: Yeah. There's a restraining order now, isn't there?
- 1:28:02Speaker 8: Probably. He just got back from California, so he got
- 1:28:05Speaker 8: to see all of his old buddies and probably caused
- 1:28:09Speaker 8: a lot of problems.
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: Richie is a very special individual.
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: He is.
