- 0:13our first broadcast of the second semester, and then three o'clock face off both
- 0:17games on Saturday. Both games available also on ESPN Plus Adam, you have
- 0:21a question for coach correct matthew Wood. He was overseas playing for Canada and
- 0:26the World Juniors. So what was it like on your end staying in touch
- 0:29with him and monitoring everything that was going on for him. Yeah, I
- 0:33mean it's pretty easy nowadays. I mean you text him and he gets right
- 0:36back to It's amazing how it works now. But you know, he unfortunately
- 0:42for Canada they get knocked out. Uh, So he came back on I
- 0:47think he got back Wednesday night, and asked him if he wanted to play,
- 0:52because I know how grueling that tournament can be, and he said one
- 0:56hundred percent he wanted to play. So he practiced this and played on Friday
- 1:00night. That is such a compact tournament, it is it goes fast and
- 1:04you're playing a lot of high intensity games you do, and it's just it's
- 1:08a lot like those kids go over there, you know, December tenth and
- 1:11you're on the ice every single day, and you know, we gave him
- 1:17a few days off here. When you get back, he just you just
- 1:19need a mental break. Have you ever been a part of the World Juniors.
- 1:23I've been part of the summer camp that helps choose the team. I've
- 1:27never been part of the actual tournament. How long ago was that? Who
- 1:32were some of the big names that were coming through that camp? It was
- 1:34eight because I had to leave. I remember it was eight because I had
- 1:38to leave because my daughter was My wife was like nine months pregnant, either
- 1:44nine months pregnant with my daughter. That team was like Van Reemsdyke, Kevin
- 1:49Shatton, Kirk, Ryan McDonough. I'm trying to think they had some really
- 1:55good defenseman on that team and it was a good team. Yeah, coach
- 2:00this year's US team U League's usually a part of that team, isn't he.
- 2:04Well, they rotated all the time. Matt carl was a coach,
- 2:07the Denver coach. Okay, yeah, it's a good win for them.
- 2:10Went over there and skiing. It's great. I mean, you know,
- 2:14since they've done that US National Development program, you know, they've won six
- 2:17times now it was the twentieth anniversary of when they won in four and now
- 2:22they've won six. In twenty years, they've won six World Junior Championships.
- 2:25That's pretty good. You mentioned the world on the national Development team and a
- 2:30lot of b U and BC kids played on that team. What's that like?
- 2:35What were they based out of They they're based out of the Midwest and
- 2:37they played in the us HL. The base basically used to be out of
- 2:40ann Arbor and now it's out of Plymouth, Michigan, which is not far
- 2:44from ann Arbor. Right, that's where the company where Whalers used to play,
- 2:47right exactly. So they Yeah, they've done a good job. You
- 2:53know, those kids there for two years and I think they get a lot
- 2:55of familiarity with each other. And uh, it's certainly been a program that
- 3:00has had its critics, but you can't argue with the results that. So
- 3:05from Matt Wood coming back, what was the big takeaway from that experience for
- 3:09him? I think he really enjoyed it. You know, he's played in
- 3:13a lot of that. He's played in under eighteens and so he's played.
- 3:17Last year he played with Celebrini in the under eighteen So he's got a lot
- 3:22of experience with international competition and he's eligible again next year. Yeah. Oh
- 3:27is he really? Yeah? Oh that's right. He's just a baby.
- 3:30Yeah, he's just a base He still might be the youngest kid on our
- 3:32team. Think about that for a while. Not the youngest in the country
- 3:38now, just only the youngest on the team. I think he is.
- 3:40That's crazy to think. I mean, but most of your freshmen are coming
- 3:44from juniors and they're nineteen twenty years old. Yeah, that's wild. Have
- 3:47you been paying attention to your bruins at all? Wait, we a little
- 3:51bit here and there. Okay, yeah, they've been playing pretty well.
- 3:54Right then, they they're doing all right. They beat Tampa. They they
- 3:57lost like three or four around the holidays, and then they came back.
- 4:00Yeah, they played such a long season. Oh it is for sure.
- 4:03Before we go, what's what's been the feedback like with the ESPN you showing
- 4:06up to do the game against Harvard. I thought it was great. You
- 4:10know John Butcher, Gross and Andrew Raycroft who used to work for us.
- 4:14Yeah, we're on the call. And I actually didn't obviously didn't watch it.
- 4:18That was no you lived were occupied it. But everybody who watched it
- 4:23said that they did a great job. It was a really good broadcast.
- 4:27Yeah. I enjoyed it. In the arena, it was it looked full.
- 4:30I mean it was nice. It was a good crowd there, really
- 4:32good crowd. Michael. We'll see you Friday. All right, Bob all
