- 0:29Speaker 4: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Was there?
- 0:34Speaker 5: Zeke?
- 0:35Speaker 4: Was there wearing number fifteen?
- 0:36Speaker 6: You got a new guard? Yeah, seeing the size of him,
- 0:38Speaker 6: he's a huge Zeke.
- 0:39Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 0:40Speaker 4: From what I understand, the implosion of the Jets has begun.
- 0:43Speaker 6: This is one of those I have my hand up
- 0:44Speaker 6: in the back. I need more information.
- 0:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't even know anything about that.
- 0:47Speaker 6: Like if I'm supposed to kill the Jets, I want
- 0:49Speaker 6: to know I'm supposed to kill the Jets. I want
- 0:51Speaker 6: to go all Fred.
- 0:52Speaker 4: They hate them, and the writers are like, you know,
- 0:54Speaker 4: the one hundred million people that follow the NFL, you
- 0:57Speaker 4: don't know history of the game, but we do.
- 0:59Speaker 6: So we're gonna put in Buddy Parker please, I know
- 1:02Speaker 6: you know everybody clutches their pearls when pro football players
- 1:05Speaker 6: proud against each other and there's a fight. I'm still
- 1:08Speaker 6: stuck on Paul saying clutches pearls.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I don't know why, but every time I hear that,
- 1:11Speaker 2: it just makes me kiggle a little bit.
- 1:13Speaker 6: I'm an old soul. I didn't have anything modern to
- 1:17Speaker 6: give you. Matt. Were you actually in your studio producing
- 1:20Speaker 6: this as I was going on? And you stayed in
- 1:23Speaker 6: there while that talk was going on. I can't believe
- 1:26Speaker 6: you allowed the Marvel and Star Wars talk like, gave
- 1:29Speaker 6: that a pass.
- 1:30Speaker 1: It was the comparing Ravioli to Pop Tark.
- 1:32Speaker 6: That's just dumb.
- 1:32Speaker 4: So you heard the first edition of Latista's Hot Takes
- 1:36Speaker 4: and they talked about movies. I thought they were going
- 1:39Speaker 4: to talk about Patriots. But anyway, this is Patriot's Unfiltered.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Presented by Toyota's official website. For deals, buy a Toyota
- 1:46Speaker 3: dot com.
- 1:49Speaker 1: All right, good morning and hello from what what voice
- 1:53Speaker 1: do I hear now?
- 1:54Speaker 6: As the host?
- 1:56Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 1:57Speaker 1: Well it's yes, that's right, it's Deuce on the mic
- 1:59Speaker 1: where I'm just open enough. Though, don't worry, Fred will
- 2:01Speaker 1: be here. So for all those people who are crying
- 2:03Speaker 1: out in horror that that I'm hosting today. You can
- 2:06Speaker 1: wait for Thursday show then you'll get me hosted. But
- 2:08Speaker 1: today Fred will be in shortly. It's Deuce, It's Perillo,
- 2:10Speaker 1: it's Evan and uh.
- 2:12Speaker 6: We are here.
- 2:13Speaker 1: We didn't expect to be here. We thought a couple
- 2:15Speaker 1: of us were going to be down to Tennessee. But
- 2:16Speaker 1: alast the Patriots have canceled joint practices. They will be
- 2:19Speaker 1: practicing here at Chillette Stadium today and tomorrow and we'll
- 2:22Speaker 1: head out over there after this show today. That's why
- 2:26Speaker 1: we've moved it up a little early. So guys, we
- 2:29Speaker 1: good news. Isaiah Boulden released from the hospital. The team
- 2:32Speaker 1: came back at you know, he's tweeting. It seems, I
- 2:34Speaker 1: don't want to say it sounds like he's gonna be okay.
- 2:36Speaker 1: We don't know if he's you know, what he's still
- 2:37Speaker 1: going through. I'm sure he's probably still in some kind
- 2:39Speaker 1: of protocols or those kind of things. But at least
- 2:42Speaker 1: he was released flew home with the team, and that's
- 2:44Speaker 1: good news. And I think for some of us maybe
- 2:47Speaker 1: a little happy we didn't have to go down to
- 2:49Speaker 1: the heat Dome of Tennessee for a couple of days
- 2:50Speaker 1: of joint.
- 2:51Speaker 6: I heard it was supposed to be really hot too.
- 2:52Speaker 6: For you guys, you may have may have dodged a bullet.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Looks like about one hundred degrees. So so a couple
- 2:56Speaker 1: of practices here today and uh yeah, we'll see how
- 2:58Speaker 1: see how those go, see who was out there. If
- 3:00Speaker 1: they're getting anybody back healthy, I think this is maybe
- 3:03Speaker 1: an interesting week before the Titans game that they could Yeah,
- 3:06Speaker 1: perhaps cold Strange Michael. And when you think Anderson somebody.
- 3:09Speaker 6: You guys might know, you know, Evan, I know you
- 3:11Speaker 6: follow a lot of the stuff with the numbers, the
- 3:13Speaker 6: specific numbers, that this might be about as long as
- 3:16Speaker 6: you can go and still be able to play in
- 3:19Speaker 6: week one for cold Strange Michael, when you like you
- 3:22Speaker 6: need some time, right.
- 3:23Speaker 8: I would think so. I think that you know, you
- 3:26Speaker 8: look at strange in particular that injury didn't ever seem
- 3:30Speaker 8: to be significant. That's like kind of how it was
- 3:32Speaker 8: reported at least at the time. And there's more about
- 3:35Speaker 8: a management thing, I suppose, So maybe maybe now's the
- 3:39Speaker 8: time to bring him back. If it really was just
- 3:42Speaker 8: playing the long game and not wanting to risk anything
- 3:45Speaker 8: in the summertime. But I think for on Wenny, the
- 3:48Speaker 8: clock is ticking, like now is the time where you're
- 3:51Speaker 8: gonna have to start seeing him. He traveled with to
- 3:53Speaker 8: Green Bay. He was out there and workout clothes for
- 3:56Speaker 8: both practices, going through mental reps. I mean talking to
- 4:00Speaker 8: guys things like that under three weeks now, right, yeah,
- 4:03Speaker 8: for the opener.
- 4:04Speaker 6: So yeah, I would think if you want those guys
- 4:07Speaker 6: to start week one. I think it's about Matt, like
- 4:12Speaker 6: they're not going to play Friday night, but I would
- 4:15Speaker 6: think you'd want to get them a couple of practices
- 4:17Speaker 6: here and get started something. Thank god, Freddy's here.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Thank god?
- 4:20Speaker 6: Pretty nice?
- 4:20Speaker 4: Sorry about that?
- 4:21Speaker 8: Oh yeah, bro, you guys we're organized. Mine's dirty though
- 4:25Speaker 8: they didn't tell us d just like.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Where the end was his Atlantic Hockey shirt from nineteen
- 4:31Speaker 4: seventy three.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Actually, Fred, the Atlantic Hockey League didn't exist in Thank
- 4:37Speaker 1: you very much.
- 4:37Speaker 6: My god, you get your fact straight when you come
- 4:41Speaker 6: to fifty four's.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Locker, right, all right, So what are we talking about?
- 4:45Speaker 6: Well, we're here, we're not in Tennessee. Well we're you know,
- 4:48Speaker 6: we're going to be heading out to practice soon and
- 4:51Speaker 6: we're kind of expecting to see some guys maybe start
- 4:54Speaker 6: to return. You know, we would focus first on cold
- 4:56Speaker 6: strange Michael when you but like Pierre Strong, I know
- 5:00Speaker 6: Mike Reese backed up my theory. It is about the
- 5:04Speaker 6: fact that I think Pierre Stroung was dealing with the concussion.
- 5:08Speaker 6: The fourth down run I said this last week, the
- 5:11Speaker 6: fourth down run against Houston that got them inside the twenty.
- 5:14Speaker 6: I think it was down to the thirteen, and then
- 5:17Speaker 6: Malie Cunningham, like a few plays later, scored the only touchdown.
- 5:21Speaker 6: It looked like he got a helmet to helmet hit.
- 5:22Speaker 6: He went to the sideline, ran off. He never played again,
- 5:25Speaker 6: and he missed the ensuing four practices. Yeah, didn't even
- 5:28Speaker 6: go to Green Bay. That's why I was asking you, Mike.
- 5:31Speaker 6: You know, if he had actually made the trip, and
- 5:34Speaker 6: Mike Reese rode over the weekend that he was in
- 5:36Speaker 6: concussion protocol. So I think that was one of those
- 5:39Speaker 6: that you get. It's scary when you try to diagnose
- 5:42Speaker 6: something from television from AFAR, but I think that might
- 5:46Speaker 6: be one that we stumbled on. You know, he looks
- 5:48Speaker 6: like he's going to be able to return this week.
- 5:50Speaker 4: I was thinking, you know, those extra outerwear that they
- 5:53Speaker 4: were now at practice. I know they can't wear that
- 5:56Speaker 4: during the game, but if they could make those somehow
- 6:00Speaker 4: look like the helmet, you know, like whether it's a
- 6:03Speaker 4: rap or something, why couldn't they Well, you know, and
- 6:06Speaker 4: I know that doesn't that doesn't eliminate all concussions, but
- 6:09Speaker 4: I might eliminate sound.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Kelso, Kelso, sorry, Kelso.
- 6:13Speaker 6: You know where the rubber kind of Yeah, it was
- 6:15Speaker 6: like an extra protection over the top.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:18Speaker 6: I wonder if he ever had any concussion problems, because
- 6:22Speaker 6: that might be right for it, because that's what you'd wear,
- 6:24Speaker 6: is an extra layer of plastic over the top. I
- 6:28Speaker 6: wonder if he avoided any head problems.
- 6:30Speaker 4: No, but I agree with you guys. And I was
- 6:32Speaker 4: listening to Mike this morning, and you know, these guys
- 6:36Speaker 4: have to start playing. And if they're not going to
- 6:38Speaker 4: practice this week, can we really count on them to
- 6:42Speaker 4: be ready for September tenth, you know, because at some
- 6:44Speaker 4: point you need to practice if you're mic.
- 6:46Speaker 1: And win, you right, right, Yeah, I mean they'll have
- 6:48Speaker 1: a handful of practices next week. But you know, I
- 6:51Speaker 1: think this opportunity to play in a game or maybe
- 6:53Speaker 1: just knock the rust off, as they say, would be.
- 6:55Speaker 6: And that was the other part, because you know, everybody's like, well,
- 6:58Speaker 6: this this offensive line is struggling, and they are, I
- 7:02Speaker 6: mean obviously, but there's a chance that those guys are
- 7:07Speaker 6: going to have to play even if a when you
- 7:08Speaker 6: and Strange start practicing today, so they ramp it up
- 7:12Speaker 6: for two and a half weeks and they play like
- 7:14Speaker 6: they're not going to go seventy plays opening day. I mean,
- 7:18Speaker 6: you see offensive lines not go wire to wire an
- 7:20Speaker 6: opening day a lot anyway, even when they're fully healthy.
- 7:23Speaker 6: These guys and wus Case has done nothing other than
- 7:27Speaker 6: you know, rehab. So you're going to need some of these.
- 7:31Speaker 6: You know, Tonio Maffi is going to need to be
- 7:33Speaker 6: ready to play. You know, if Ridley Reef is going
- 7:35Speaker 6: to stay at guard, he's probably going to be ready
- 7:37Speaker 6: to play. I don't know what Connor McDermott, sorry, you haven't.
- 7:40Speaker 6: I know, he said, great camp.
- 7:42Speaker 8: I don't know what his his physical condition is off theott.
- 7:47Speaker 6: Yeah, so there I.
- 7:48Speaker 4: Heard some really good marks from at guard.
- 7:52Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, And I was laughing, like I killed me.
- 7:55Speaker 6: I stay away, I stay away from the all twenty two.
- 7:58Speaker 6: It's not my stay. I stay in my lane. But
- 8:01Speaker 6: then I'm seeing other people like, oh, I don't know,
- 8:03Speaker 6: this play looks like he got Max smoked on the plate.
- 8:06Speaker 6: It was like an RPO.
- 8:08Speaker 8: It wasn't wasn't a pass block.
- 8:09Speaker 6: Maybe it wasn't a pass block, but I guess that
- 8:11Speaker 6: just means you can just let the guy run by
- 8:13Speaker 6: and hit the quarterback. Pff sis No, that's good. Good
- 8:16Speaker 6: goods across the board.
- 8:17Speaker 8: So they only had uh I think it was seven
- 8:21Speaker 8: pressures allowed on both quarterbacks. So the pressure wasn't really sad.
- 8:26Speaker 8: He got pressure like just five seconds ago. Yeah, so
- 8:31Speaker 8: life the whole time. It wasn't it wasn't. It wasn't
- 8:33Speaker 8: that that bad, right. I say that with the air quotes,
- 8:36Speaker 8: But when you watch the film, guys are losing blocks
- 8:40Speaker 8: but it might not actually result in a pressure, but
- 8:43Speaker 8: you can tell that. You know, he was kind of
- 8:46Speaker 8: getting beat there. Or there was one run where the
- 8:49Speaker 8: whole right side gets carved in, but Remandre was going left,
- 8:53Speaker 8: so it's on the back side. If Citi sal was
- 8:55Speaker 8: on the front side of that run play, that's a
- 8:57Speaker 8: two yard loss in the backfield, right. So there was
- 9:00Speaker 8: a lot of that going on. I felt like where
- 9:02Speaker 8: guys were starting to lose or they were they weren't
- 9:06Speaker 8: keeping their leverage and then all of a sudden, the
- 9:08Speaker 8: ball's out. And maybe PFF doesn't look at that as
- 9:11Speaker 8: a as a pressure because it didn't really impact the throw.
- 9:14Speaker 8: But if Mackett held the ball for another half a second,
- 9:17Speaker 8: then all of a sudden he's in his You.
- 9:19Speaker 4: Could just tell just from the get go when Green
- 9:21Speaker 4: Bay wanted to you know, when we wanted to run,
- 9:26Speaker 4: we were getting pushed around, you know, so we were
- 9:30Speaker 4: losing the battle of the line. I think both sides
- 9:32Speaker 4: of the ball. Yeah.
- 9:33Speaker 8: I actually thought the backup offensive line did better than
- 9:35Speaker 8: the starting group.
- 9:36Speaker 6: Impressed with Bill Murray, like I thought he was okay,
- 9:39Speaker 6: I didn't know, you know, specifically, but I would agree
- 9:42Speaker 6: with Evan about the backup offensive line. I thought they
- 9:44Speaker 6: had the third quarter. I thought they had a handful
- 9:47Speaker 6: of productive runs.
- 9:48Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, j Tayler and Harris Yeah, when they started
- 9:53Speaker 4: out the second half.
- 9:54Speaker 6: Yeah, Now there was some bad runs too, but I
- 9:56Speaker 6: thought that third quarter there, I thought they had some
- 9:59Speaker 6: production on the ground.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Well, let them throw it up to Bourne when that
- 10:01Speaker 1: got like smoked after like letting it go, Like are
- 10:04Speaker 1: they like good clean pocket? Got it?
- 10:06Speaker 2: Out.
- 10:06Speaker 6: So I made the comment in the post game show
- 10:08Speaker 6: was like, literally, the only thing I liked about that
- 10:11Speaker 6: play was the result. Yeah, Like, I didn't like that
- 10:14Speaker 6: he got smoked when he threw it. I didn't like
- 10:16Speaker 6: where the throw went. I didn't like that Bourne was exposed. Like, yeah,
- 10:20Speaker 6: everything about the play I hated except for the fact
- 10:22Speaker 6: that it worked right like he caught it.
- 10:24Speaker 8: Yeah, that's been an issue. That's been an issue for
- 10:28Speaker 8: Mafia's stunts up front, and that's foot speed and awareness
- 10:32Speaker 8: and that that's been the really one on one he's
- 10:35Speaker 8: been okay. I'm not going to like go crazy, but
- 10:38Speaker 8: he's been okay. But a second that he sees a scheme,
- 10:41Speaker 8: pressure or some movement up front, that's when it's it's
- 10:44Speaker 8: kind of broken down for him. I thought Reef was
- 10:47Speaker 8: all right. I mean I'm not gonna like say that
- 10:49Speaker 8: he was excellent or great or but he was all right.
- 10:54Speaker 8: And soo continue so continues to be up and down.
- 10:59Speaker 4: I think, you know, getting off the line Paul's favorite subject.
- 11:03Speaker 4: But you know, in general, the the roster projection, I
- 11:07Speaker 4: think we need to start coming out with our wide
- 11:10Speaker 4: receiver projections. I mean, it's getting to the point now
- 11:13Speaker 4: I think with Thornton that I don't think he's going
- 11:16Speaker 4: to be on the opening roster on some list. Yeah, well,
- 11:20Speaker 4: he's going to make other than released or practice squad.
- 11:25Speaker 8: They're not cutting the second.
- 11:27Speaker 6: They're not going to cut him, and that would be released.
- 11:29Speaker 4: Yeah, but then you're not going to release them. Yeah. Well,
- 11:33Speaker 4: but I mean, don't we have to be worried about him?
- 11:36Speaker 4: You know, maybe he gets the Foxborough flu, got hurt.
- 11:39Speaker 6: Like Wednesday, didn't he Thursday? On the biggest play of
- 11:43Speaker 6: the day on Thursday?
- 11:45Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 11:45Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't know. I mean, if it's serious, I
- 11:48Speaker 6: have no idea.
- 11:49Speaker 1: We'll see today if he's out there.
- 11:50Speaker 6: Do you think that you sometimes when you have that
- 11:52Speaker 6: look in your eye, you you are.
- 11:54Speaker 4: Speaking from from It's just it's just like, okay, do
- 11:57Speaker 4: we put our chips on him or do we give
- 12:00Speaker 4: Boute a chance you know, to make the roster?
- 12:03Speaker 8: Why not both?
- 12:04Speaker 6: Yeah, I'd say both.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Well, I'm not cutting, Okay, So I want to know
- 12:08Speaker 4: what your roster projection is for wide receiver six.
- 12:12Speaker 6: Okay, Well, if I if I think that Thornton is
- 12:15Speaker 6: healthy and he doesn't have to start on IR, yep, Yeah,
- 12:18Speaker 6: I mean he's not getting I'm not cutting.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Him, Okay, I'm with Evan. Six.
- 12:22Speaker 6: I mean they've kept six many many So you.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Got Born, Parker and Shuster are locks, right, yeah, then
- 12:31Speaker 4: the three. Then you got Douglas see a lock yep,
- 12:35Speaker 4: I think he's in Thornton and Thornton's a lot. That's
- 12:38Speaker 4: five ye and then Booty, I think, and then and
- 12:40Speaker 4: then you Okay, Booty's.
- 12:42Speaker 6: Doing enough now.
- 12:42Speaker 1: I mean I think going into the game yesterday I was,
- 12:45Speaker 1: or Saturday I.
- 12:46Speaker 4: Was, So you're going to carry six wide receivers, which
- 12:48Speaker 4: they've done many times, and then how many tight ends?
- 12:51Speaker 8: Two?
- 12:52Speaker 4: Two? Hunter? And Kasiki? What's his health like?
- 12:55Speaker 8: Be all right?
- 12:57Speaker 4: Be all right?
- 12:58Speaker 5: Now?
- 12:58Speaker 6: If he has to start on IR, then maybe you
- 13:00Speaker 6: keep Socle and then you move Socle to the practice
- 13:03Speaker 6: squad when Kasiki's healthy.
- 13:05Speaker 1: I think I saw enough out of Circle, not to
- 13:07Speaker 1: say his play, but just it seems like they need him.
- 13:10Speaker 1: They need that that third tight end body. So even
- 13:12Speaker 1: if it's cut him and bring them back on the
- 13:14Speaker 1: practice squad, which I think you could probably do.
- 13:16Speaker 6: Yeah, And I think these guys are right. I have
- 13:19Speaker 6: no problem with six wide receivers. I don't know if
- 13:21Speaker 6: Booty has done enough to be there, but he's definitely
- 13:24Speaker 6: played better over say the last eight to ten days yep,
- 13:27Speaker 6: than he was the first half of camp.
- 13:29Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:29Speaker 6: So don't you want sending players? Yeah, sure, you try
- 13:33Speaker 6: to keep them around at.
- 13:34Speaker 1: The receiver position where you know you've been searching forever
- 13:37Speaker 1: for guys that can make an impact. You got somebody
- 13:38Speaker 1: looks like he can play. I don't think he can. Ah, well,
- 13:40Speaker 1: we'll see with him, like especially where he's got that pedigree,
- 13:43Speaker 1: and you know, it's it's intriguing.
- 13:45Speaker 6: And I have no idea what the actual injury is
- 13:48Speaker 6: for Thornton, but if it's more serious, then we think,
- 13:52Speaker 6: then you buy yourself three weeks, you know, you open
- 13:55Speaker 6: them on IR like they did last year, yep, and
- 13:58Speaker 6: you buy yourself some time.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:59Speaker 8: But he's making Yeah, he's not going to get cut. Yeah,
- 14:02Speaker 8: so he's got to make the initial roster to go
- 14:04Speaker 8: on IR and then be able to return. So they're
- 14:07Speaker 8: gonna have to carry six out of the shoot right now.
- 14:09Speaker 8: I did my little roster projection of my own, haven't
- 14:13Speaker 8: posted it yet. I'm gonna do it after the third game.
- 14:15Speaker 8: But I have fifty four guys on the team right now,
- 14:18Speaker 8: so I need to cut somebody, and.
- 14:21Speaker 6: Do somebody think I have like forty six, so fifty one, so.
- 14:25Speaker 8: I got fifty four, And I think that what it
- 14:28Speaker 8: comes down to is some of these guys like a
- 14:33Speaker 8: Elie cutting Ham. I think it does come down to
- 14:35Speaker 8: a keseh on booty, And then you have some of
- 14:38Speaker 8: the linemen like a Sam Roberts, you know, one of
- 14:40Speaker 8: you know, the backup interior guys, Like how is that
- 14:43Speaker 8: all gonna sort of?
- 14:44Speaker 6: Sam Roberts Carl Davis. I know they're kind of different players,
- 14:47Speaker 6: but which one would you take if you had those two?
- 14:49Speaker 8: Which one would I take? Or which one do I
- 14:51Speaker 8: think they're gonna take?
- 14:51Speaker 6: Which one would you take?
- 14:52Speaker 8: Sam Roberts Carl Davis?
- 14:55Speaker 6: Who do you think is more valuable?
- 14:56Speaker 4: Carl Davis?
- 14:57Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm with I'm with Evan.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, I just don't think they have a
- 15:01Speaker 1: pure big nose.
- 15:01Speaker 6: They don't like him, they don't That's great. Maybe the
- 15:04Speaker 6: other team will run the ball and keep the score
- 15:05Speaker 6: down for us, like like like Saturday night, by the way.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Yeah, but we're talking about like a fourth defensive lineman.
- 15:11Speaker 4: You know, like it's Paul's roster projection is based on
- 15:13Speaker 4: how short can we make the game?
- 15:15Speaker 6: No, no, no, no no. What I'm saying is like, all right,
- 15:20Speaker 6: so let's talk about Saturday for for a quick second.
- 15:22Speaker 6: The game, right, Patriots run defense was really not good.
- 15:27Speaker 6: You had said both sides, line both sides. I totally
- 15:31Speaker 6: agree with your assessment, and I'm not concerned about it whatsoever, because,
- 15:35Speaker 6: first of all, there were a couple of I think
- 15:37Speaker 6: key guys from a run defense perspective that really weren't involved.
- 15:42Speaker 6: Sure Bentley, Yeah, Bentley being one of them. I have
- 15:45Speaker 6: another surprise cut candidate, by the way.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I hope it's who I think it is, because I
- 15:50Speaker 1: would surprise cut him too.
- 15:52Speaker 8: So are you saying not are you saying not involved
- 15:55Speaker 8: or not interested in playing in the preseason?
- 15:57Speaker 6: No, like Jwan Bentley didn't play, He's one of your
- 15:59Speaker 6: better runs stoppers.
- 16:01Speaker 8: Because I also think there were guys that weren't.
- 16:03Speaker 6: Interested, wasn't interested in playing. You got spun around on
- 16:07Speaker 6: a number of occasions, didn't want to be there. So
- 16:13Speaker 6: it might sound cavalier and I'm just sort of whistling
- 16:16Speaker 6: past the graveyard. I don't think that's going to be
- 16:18Speaker 6: the case on a regular basis against traditional running games.
- 16:21Speaker 6: I still think they'll have trouble with Jalen Hurt's opening day,
- 16:25Speaker 6: but you know, I just don't see them lining up
- 16:29Speaker 6: and pounding the ball down their throats on a consistent
- 16:32Speaker 6: basis now, Aaron Aaron Jones had a big game in
- 16:35Speaker 6: Green Bay last Year's a tough scheme, Okay. I don't
- 16:39Speaker 6: think that's going to be the reason why the Patriots
- 16:41Speaker 6: defense isn't going to be as good as we think
- 16:43Speaker 6: it's going to be because the traditional running game is
- 16:45Speaker 6: going to hurt them. Carl Davis, You're right, like, if
- 16:48Speaker 6: you're going to play a lot of safeties and you're
- 16:50Speaker 6: going to be lighter in the back end, you might say, well,
- 16:53Speaker 6: we need another big body up front. I thought they
- 16:55Speaker 6: started bar more over guy who's not really going to
- 16:59Speaker 6: be in that. They're not going to ask him to
- 17:01Speaker 6: play all three downs very often unless they want to
- 17:04Speaker 6: cut guy. Yeah, and then then you have to day guy.
- 17:08Speaker 6: Then you no, no, okay, good, no good, Yeah, we'll
- 17:10Speaker 6: get to it.
- 17:11Speaker 7: Well.
- 17:11Speaker 1: That was funny because I saw Teddy Johnson doing a
- 17:14Speaker 1: whole thing, and I was like, I wish I was
- 17:15Speaker 1: talking with Ted right now, because like, hey, Ted two
- 17:17Speaker 1: thousand and four preseason Game two. We're all coming after
- 17:20Speaker 1: your run defense. What would your response be as a
- 17:22Speaker 1: player to that one?
- 17:23Speaker 6: Like, you know, like, and I'm not telling you the
- 17:26Speaker 6: like Evan's right, like they were getting manhandled up front. Yeah,
- 17:29Speaker 6: I'm not telling you that. What you saw wasn't They
- 17:32Speaker 6: weren't trying to stop the I don't buy those things.
- 17:35Speaker 6: I've seen those on Twitter. They weren't interested in trying.
- 17:38Speaker 6: They were trying different things. No, no, no, no, the other
- 17:40Speaker 6: team lined up and ran it down your throat.
- 17:42Speaker 8: Well they might have not been interested in trying like that,
- 17:45Speaker 8: I know.
- 17:46Speaker 6: But they wanted to Like people were saying they wanted
- 17:48Speaker 6: them to run. They were trying things. No, no, Davon
- 17:50Speaker 6: Godshaw was getting spun like a top on multiple occasions. Yeah.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Well, I'm very interested to see because I got someone
- 17:56Speaker 1: I pulled in Evan. I went, I watched the film,
- 17:58Speaker 1: and I got somebody in my crosshairs from that from
- 18:00Speaker 1: that defensive performance. So I'm curious.
- 18:02Speaker 8: I do too, and we might be on the same patrio.
- 18:04Speaker 6: What let's all say it.
- 18:06Speaker 8: It was ready mac Wilson.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Wilson.
- 18:08Speaker 6: I think he's a surprise. I think he's a surprise.
- 18:14Speaker 4: I think they were.
- 18:14Speaker 6: I think that, you know, in terms of quote unquote
- 18:17Speaker 6: trying things. I think Barmore and Wilson were out there
- 18:19Speaker 6: for a reason. Yeah yeah, And I don't think it
- 18:22Speaker 6: looked good for Wilson.
- 18:23Speaker 1: I don't think I'll look good for him at all.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Like I just he's just he's not a plus player,
- 18:26Speaker 1: Like he can't Like he has speed, but he doesn't
- 18:28Speaker 1: use it.
- 18:30Speaker 6: That is that a thing? I don't even know. I
- 18:32Speaker 6: just made that up.
- 18:33Speaker 8: I can't believe me. That was like lockstep every year.
- 18:37Speaker 1: I got him in my crosshairs. As I was watching it,
- 18:39Speaker 1: I'm like, geez.
- 18:39Speaker 6: And we have spoken about this.
- 18:41Speaker 1: He is the most ineffective guy. And you know he's
- 18:44Speaker 1: fast and we all like that, but it doesn't matter
- 18:46Speaker 1: like he just like I saw him like just kind
- 18:48Speaker 1: of like standing there trying to push against the guy,
- 18:49Speaker 1: and he had like no juice at all. I'm totally
- 18:52Speaker 1: with you, guys, I was. I was like, and that's
- 18:54Speaker 1: the Marty mop who think that's the mop who thing
- 18:56Speaker 1: right there?
- 18:56Speaker 6: Get him in that spot. Very passive, Very rare that
- 19:00Speaker 6: you get that kind of lockstep agreement.
- 19:02Speaker 8: Poor Angles to the ball had no interest in coming down,
- 19:06Speaker 8: he'll let the line of scrimmage at all and then
- 19:08Speaker 8: then their system Like that's why I don't really hold
- 19:11Speaker 8: too much against the the lineman, because if the linebackers
- 19:14Speaker 8: aren't getting the combination blocks off of the lineman, then
- 19:17Speaker 8: like how many times do you want Davon Godshaw to
- 19:20Speaker 8: take on two guys? Like you can't do that all
- 19:23Speaker 8: game long. And that's what Bentley does. Bentley will come
- 19:25Speaker 8: down at the guard and he'll occupy the guard and
- 19:28Speaker 8: let Godshaw go one on one. And mac Wilson was
- 19:31Speaker 8: trying to I think he was trying to play over
- 19:33Speaker 8: the top and just kind of read out the running back,
- 19:35Speaker 8: but he missed a couple of different you know, reads
- 19:38Speaker 8: or angles to the football and had no juice whatsoever
- 19:41Speaker 8: in terms of play strain.
- 19:43Speaker 1: That's exactly what I was thinking. I was trying to
- 19:44Speaker 1: think of a like witty pun about like no juice,
- 19:46Speaker 1: Like He's something that I couldn't I didn't come up with, obviously,
- 19:49Speaker 1: but that's exactly the phrase again. I mean, then after
- 19:51Speaker 1: I watch it, I'm like, what were his stats? Like,
- 19:53Speaker 1: I just I'm like, did he make a single play?
- 19:54Speaker 1: Like I think he had him down for like four tackles,
- 19:56Speaker 1: which I still found surprising.
- 19:59Speaker 6: But yeah, I don't have the stats, but I'm just
- 20:01Speaker 6: curious to see because I I did go back and
- 20:04Speaker 6: I and I remembered, like, you know, it's weird that
- 20:07Speaker 6: you know there's no Bentley out there, you know, you know,
- 20:09Speaker 6: and like they're just lining up and running it and
- 20:11Speaker 6: there's no Bentley out there. So obviously that was something
- 20:13Speaker 6: they wanted to see. And I just don't think that
- 20:18Speaker 6: he was very effective in his place. And I can't,
- 20:21Speaker 6: I can why can't I not even find how many
- 20:23Speaker 6: snaps he played?
- 20:24Speaker 1: He played it, he should be at the top.
- 20:26Speaker 8: He played a bunch, Yeah he was, He was not very.
- 20:29Speaker 6: Yeah, thirty yeah, thirty four snaps fifty that's a lot
- 20:33Speaker 6: of snaps for a guy that you think is a lock.
- 20:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:36Speaker 6: I don't think he's a lock.
- 20:37Speaker 8: No, I just hard to find a role for him
- 20:39Speaker 8: because they're gonna be dime package on third down, you know,
- 20:42Speaker 8: six DB's and then you have the five zero rush package.
- 20:46Speaker 8: He's not really a rusher and he's not really a
- 20:48Speaker 8: cover guy in that package. So he's not gonna play
- 20:51Speaker 8: on third down. The kicking game is really where he's
- 20:54Speaker 8: gonna make his Hey, but now you already have guys
- 20:56Speaker 8: like Chris Bord on the team who's gonna, you know,
- 20:58Speaker 8: be a linebacker slash special teamer.
- 21:00Speaker 1: And an injury he can fill into that.
- 21:02Speaker 6: Right.
- 21:02Speaker 8: So when I did my roster projection or my sample out,
- 21:07Speaker 8: I didn't have him out, but I told you I
- 21:09Speaker 8: had fifty four players.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Welcome to fifty three.
- 21:12Speaker 6: And so is would you rather?
- 21:14Speaker 8: I think what some of these decisions are, like, would
- 21:16Speaker 8: you rather Malige Cunningham to stay on the team No?
- 21:19Speaker 8: Or mac Wilson. Would you rather six carry six receivers?
- 21:23Speaker 6: Yes?
- 21:23Speaker 8: Or mac Wilson. Would you rather keep depth at defensive
- 21:27Speaker 8: line or interior offensive line over mac Wilson? Like those
- 21:30Speaker 8: are kind of the I think.
- 21:31Speaker 6: You might need it on the offensive line, like out
- 21:33Speaker 6: of necessity. But that's like I'm glad that Evan brought
- 21:36Speaker 6: brought it up that way because that's how these things
- 21:38Speaker 6: have to piece together. Like you can say, well, I
- 21:42Speaker 6: want to keep Booty and Cunningham, but I can't. Well
- 21:45Speaker 6: you can, but you got to cut somebody that you
- 21:48Speaker 6: think was on the team. And I'm not saying it
- 21:51Speaker 6: is mac Wilson. Josh Bledze has played a lot of
- 21:53Speaker 6: snaps the first two preseasons. The other guy. You know,
- 21:56Speaker 6: I don't think he's a lock, but I don't think
- 21:58Speaker 6: anybody thinks he's a lock. I think most people will
- 22:01Speaker 6: probably consider mac Wilson's on the team. I don't think
- 22:04Speaker 6: everybody says Bledsoe is definitely on the team. So some
- 22:07Speaker 6: of those guys got to go if if you're going
- 22:10Speaker 6: to keep extra somewhere.
- 22:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I had some flashbacks to him versus Lamar last year,
- 22:14Speaker 1: which I mean different offense, different attack, but same thing where.
- 22:18Speaker 6: He had the wasn't he involved in the one on
- 22:20Speaker 6: on Josh Allen too by the sideline, Well, he didn't
- 22:24Speaker 6: push him out of push him out of bounds, and
- 22:26Speaker 6: Allen just basically held him with one hand into a touchdown.
- 22:29Speaker 4: With the Yeah.
- 22:30Speaker 8: I also, I give Johnny a Tobaya pass and a
- 22:34Speaker 8: lot's going on in Hawaii right now, and his mind is,
- 22:36Speaker 8: you know, it's probably on that. So he didn't have
- 22:39Speaker 8: a very good game either.
- 22:40Speaker 6: He played a lot too.
- 22:41Speaker 8: Yeah, So I don't think that that's, you know, a
- 22:44Speaker 8: cut candidate necessarily, but.
- 22:45Speaker 5: I wouldn't know.
- 22:47Speaker 1: But he at least moves and breaks some thump like
- 22:49Speaker 1: even when he was wrong. At least he's making an
- 22:51Speaker 1: impact where MacWilson just kind of bout.
- 22:53Speaker 4: He's in on a lot of plays. He may not
- 22:55Speaker 4: be the first guy, but he surprisingly well for a
- 22:58Speaker 4: guy his Yeah, I think he's it's okay.
- 23:00Speaker 8: Yeah. I think the last thing just with the run defense,
- 23:03Speaker 8: for me is just they got to play one of
- 23:05Speaker 8: those safeties up top, and so Dugger, one of Dugger,
- 23:09Speaker 8: Phillips or Peppers is not going to be in the box.
- 23:12Speaker 8: And those three guys are all really good run defenders
- 23:15Speaker 8: for their size, especially but just in general, and I
- 23:18Speaker 8: think Phillips is probably still the best run defender out
- 23:21Speaker 8: of all of them. I think Pepper's the most physical guy,
- 23:23Speaker 8: and Dougger's just Dugger. But one of those guys is
- 23:26Speaker 8: going to be playing deep safety, you would think, and
- 23:28Speaker 8: THETT Mills, unless it's Mills or maybe Miles Bryant. But
- 23:33Speaker 8: that was another thing that I felt like was noticeable
- 23:37Speaker 8: was the fact that you know, now you kind of
- 23:40Speaker 8: have to put one of your better physical guys in
- 23:43Speaker 8: the box deep and so you're losing another one of
- 23:46Speaker 8: those guys too.
- 23:47Speaker 6: So I thought when you started to say that, you
- 23:49Speaker 6: felt like they maybe would be playing more too deep.
- 23:52Speaker 8: So they did play a little bit and it was
- 23:54Speaker 8: Peppers and Phillips had the halves, which means that you're
- 23:58Speaker 8: now losing both of those guys as run defendery.
- 24:01Speaker 6: I would I would think, and I don't know when
- 24:03Speaker 6: you guys were there so you could see the alignments
- 24:05Speaker 6: all the time on TV, you're limited. I would think
- 24:07Speaker 6: that Mills would be one of the guys back, and
- 24:10Speaker 6: then you have a choice with the guys. Mills, one
- 24:13Speaker 6: of those guys could be next to him. And that's
- 24:15Speaker 6: why Mike to you a point about Carl Davis. If
- 24:18Speaker 6: you're going to play like the Patriots have had a
- 24:21Speaker 6: physical safety as an extra run supporter a lot, maybe
- 24:24Speaker 6: they feel like they can't do that this year. Yeah,
- 24:26Speaker 6: and they might need more beef upfront. Maybe, I don't know.
- 24:29Speaker 8: Yeah, I thought it was interesting that you know, Peppers
- 24:31Speaker 8: was playing center field on third down.
- 24:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:34Speaker 6: I don't like him involved in coverage. Sorry, you watch
- 24:37Speaker 6: your mouth. Sorry, I don't like him involved in coverage
- 24:40Speaker 6: very much.
- 24:41Speaker 8: Yeah, he was the guy. Yeah, he was the guy
- 24:43Speaker 8: in center field. I think so Jalen Mills. They've used
- 24:47Speaker 8: both deep and they've used him to cover tight ends.
- 24:50Speaker 8: So they've used him in all over the place this summe. Yeah,
- 24:53Speaker 8: and he's been great basically anywhere. But on the touchdown
- 24:57Speaker 8: pass that they gave up to Jayden Reid, Adrian Phillips
- 25:00Speaker 8: was playing deep and he was in a blender. He
- 25:03Speaker 8: got got completely lost up top. So I think that
- 25:06Speaker 8: that's a real concern. I still do that. I have
- 25:09Speaker 8: no idea who's going to play deep. I have no
- 25:11Speaker 8: idea who really feels the most comfortable doing it. I
- 25:15Speaker 8: think in terms of experience and instincts, it's probably Dougger.
- 25:18Speaker 8: But do you really want to take Dougger and put
- 25:20Speaker 8: him twelve yards off the ball on every snap and.
- 25:23Speaker 1: It's not going to make any play.
- 25:24Speaker 8: Yeah, So I really think that there's a chance that
- 25:26Speaker 8: Mills or Miles Bryant might emerge as the guy there.
- 25:31Speaker 4: We should talk about, you know, what happened in the
- 25:33Speaker 4: game as well, and you know, with Isaiah Bolden and
- 25:39Speaker 4: suspending the rest of the game and all that, and
- 25:43Speaker 4: then the canceling of the joint practices in Nashville and
- 25:47Speaker 4: what that means, you know, going forward, because I also
- 25:50Speaker 4: noticed that the Saints and Texans canceled their joint practice.
- 25:55Speaker 4: You know, but we also know that coaches value these
- 26:01Speaker 4: joint practices. You know, some people are like, oh, you know,
- 26:03Speaker 4: they're not going to have joint practices anymore. There's no
- 26:06Speaker 4: way that's gonna happen, especially if what I believe is
- 26:10Speaker 4: going to happen, where you're going to get let one
- 26:12Speaker 4: less preseason game, they're going to add another regular season game,
- 26:15Speaker 4: so it'll be two and eighteen. These joint practice are
- 26:18Speaker 4: going to be even more important, you know. So my
- 26:22Speaker 4: solution I've thought about it is that when you have
- 26:24Speaker 4: a joint practice, there has to be refs, and there
- 26:27Speaker 4: has to be an NFL observer, and fights in that
- 26:31Speaker 4: type of stuff are handled like it would a game.
- 26:33Speaker 4: Fins and or suspensions levy by the league on those things.
- 26:38Speaker 4: And I think that having refs there not just when
- 26:41Speaker 4: the teams, you know, go into eleven on eleven, but
- 26:46Speaker 4: even if it's a one on one drill offensive line
- 26:48Speaker 4: versus defensive drill, throwing a flag when a guy's hand
- 26:51Speaker 4: is up against up underneath a guy's chin, so that
- 26:53Speaker 4: stuff doesn't boil over because that's where these fights start.
- 26:57Speaker 4: It's like this guy's getting away with this. I'm getting
- 26:59Speaker 4: sick of it. Then I lash out. And so if
- 27:02Speaker 4: you nip those things in the bud early, then there's
- 27:05Speaker 4: less chance that it boils over and guys, you know,
- 27:08Speaker 4: start getting pissed off at each other. But you have
- 27:11Speaker 4: to have that, you guys.
- 27:12Speaker 6: They had refs, yes.
- 27:14Speaker 4: Yeah, but the rest are there, but they're not.
- 27:16Speaker 6: They're throwing flags, the fine at eleven the fine thing.
- 27:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:21Speaker 6: No, they throw flags for everything, not when like they
- 27:24Speaker 6: do when they're here.
- 27:25Speaker 4: Man O a man o.
- 27:26Speaker 6: No, they do when they're here. I've seen them on
- 27:28Speaker 6: one of one drills. If they think there's illegal contact,
- 27:31Speaker 6: the ref will throw the flag.
- 27:32Speaker 4: I've seen it when an offensive lineman's going on it.
- 27:35Speaker 6: Yes, I've seen.
- 27:36Speaker 4: I've never seen.
- 27:36Speaker 6: That, Okay I have now. I did not see Green Bay,
- 27:39Speaker 6: so I don't think they didn't do anything. They didn't
- 27:41Speaker 6: do anyone on ones in Greenway.
- 27:42Speaker 8: I've never seen a joint practice like go. They went
- 27:46Speaker 8: right into eleven on eleven's and they did eleven on
- 27:49Speaker 8: elevens for an hour and a half straight.
- 27:51Speaker 4: Yeah, it was well, that's a lot. I've never seen that.
- 27:54Speaker 6: The other part I'm one hundred percent with, and that's
- 27:58Speaker 6: and the league has the ability to do this now
- 28:01Speaker 6: they like Mark Andrews gets in a fight with a
- 28:04Speaker 6: guy and throws him down. That should be a fine. Yeah,
- 28:08Speaker 6: that should you should be subject to fine. It's right,
- 28:10Speaker 6: everybody saw it. Why does the league not the league
- 28:12Speaker 6: has the ability to do that, do it because if
- 28:15Speaker 6: they know that they're subjective to find, they won't behave
- 28:18Speaker 6: like that across the board. Yeah, I agree, but you
- 28:20Speaker 6: would you don't see that in games?
- 28:22Speaker 1: Would you consider Fred just doing joint practices with a
- 28:25Speaker 1: team and then not following with a game, like, because
- 28:27Speaker 1: some ways it felt like the game, Like, I think
- 28:30Speaker 1: the most important part of the game is just for
- 28:31Speaker 1: the quarterbacks to be live and for live tackling, and
- 28:33Speaker 1: those are the things you don't get.
- 28:35Speaker 4: Well economically, though, it doesn't make sense to do a
- 28:37Speaker 4: joint practice if you're not already in a talent for
- 28:39Speaker 4: the game or you know they're you know, like, yeah,
- 28:43Speaker 4: it's just no.
- 28:44Speaker 6: I think you're right, Fred. I think there'll be some
- 28:46Speaker 6: changes and maybe it'll be one practice instead of two,
- 28:49Speaker 6: maybe it'll be only one padded practice instead of two, right,
- 28:53Speaker 6: And I think that another part of this. And I
- 28:56Speaker 6: don't have anything to base this on other than that.
- 28:58Speaker 6: Bill said, it was a factor at the Isaiah Bolden
- 29:00Speaker 6: injury was a factor. Was one of the factors. So
- 29:03Speaker 6: there were a lot of other I think there's a chance,
- 29:06Speaker 6: not saying that they wouldn't know, I think there's a
- 29:07Speaker 6: chance that they would have canceled in Tennessee anyway, just
- 29:10Speaker 6: like Houston and New Orleans did.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Was that What was that for? Did they have a
- 29:13Speaker 1: reason for fatigue?
- 29:14Speaker 6: Fatigue like they've banged up and they were tired. Yeah,
- 29:18Speaker 6: And I think teams will look at what the Patriots
- 29:22Speaker 6: had scheduled this year, I think in the future and
- 29:26Speaker 6: maybe stay away from that, like we're going to go
- 29:27Speaker 6: two in a row on the road, Like, I don't
- 29:30Speaker 6: think that's in the best play the player's best interest.
- 29:32Speaker 6: I don't think a lot of players probably loved the
- 29:34Speaker 6: idea of at this time of year, we're on the
- 29:36Speaker 6: road for eleven days. You know, normally you get a
- 29:39Speaker 6: chance to see your family or whatever, and now I'm
- 29:41Speaker 6: away at this time of year now during the season,
- 29:44Speaker 6: when you go out back to back West Coast games,
- 29:47Speaker 6: it is what it is, you know, But I I wonder,
- 29:51Speaker 6: and I don't know. I'm not speaking from any knowledge here.
- 29:54Speaker 6: I wrote this for the notes that we just posted
- 29:56Speaker 6: this morning, maybe some alterations to what they do in
- 30:00Speaker 6: the future, because they're not going away. They're too valuable.
- 30:03Speaker 6: The joint practices, I think all the coaches agree, especially
- 30:06Speaker 6: better than the pres.
- 30:07Speaker 4: Especially like if if it's true that you're going to
- 30:09Speaker 4: end up losing a preseason game, you're going to have
- 30:12Speaker 4: to have these joint practices.
- 30:14Speaker 1: I just I mean, to Evan's point, like I there
- 30:16Speaker 1: was so much value in I mean, they did so
- 30:19Speaker 1: much work, and I mean, I guess, you know, I
- 30:20Speaker 1: know that we joke about how long the practice was.
- 30:22Speaker 1: I think just what it was was that usually it's
- 30:24Speaker 1: broken up with individual drills and you see, you know
- 30:27Speaker 1: there's some time to meander. There was no time for that.
- 30:29Speaker 1: It was you walked onto the field, the music's going,
- 30:32Speaker 1: it's go time, eleven on eleven, and they would just
- 30:34Speaker 1: kind of you know, occasional little special teams periods. But
- 30:37Speaker 1: they just did so much work and you see the
- 30:39Speaker 1: value that that has and how much just we got
- 30:42Speaker 1: as observers getting to see it over and over and
- 30:45Speaker 1: over again, rep after reps, so well, like.
- 30:47Speaker 4: You know, in in the Texans in Saints case, the
- 30:49Speaker 4: Texans had just had a joint practice with us, just
- 30:52Speaker 4: like we had just had one with them. So that's
- 30:55Speaker 4: two weeks of joint practices. Maybe it's like, you know,
- 30:59Speaker 4: you just do one joint practice. If you're gonna do
- 31:02Speaker 4: two joint practices with teams, it's one day and one
- 31:04Speaker 4: day instead of four days.
- 31:06Speaker 6: The Texans didn't have joint practices. We just played them.
- 31:08Speaker 4: Oh that's right.
- 31:09Speaker 6: We had a preseason game with Houston.
- 31:12Speaker 4: Yeah, that's all. So who do we have?
- 31:15Speaker 6: We were good tennis? Yeah, yeah, No, But I do
- 31:18Speaker 6: think at this time of year, you know, and I
- 31:22Speaker 6: know it sounds silly like, but there also was going
- 31:25Speaker 6: to be like one hundred plus degrees in Nashville.
- 31:27Speaker 4: I'm not sure.
- 31:27Speaker 6: I'm not sure that that was in the best interest
- 31:30Speaker 6: of the team either. I think there were a lot
- 31:31Speaker 6: of things that went into this, and I think, you know, unfortunately,
- 31:36Speaker 6: the serious nature of Isaiah Bolden going down Saturday night
- 31:39Speaker 6: was the impetus for all of it, and then they
- 31:41Speaker 6: kind of sat.
- 31:41Speaker 4: Back, you know, let's let's read the room, let's just
- 31:44Speaker 4: go home.
- 31:45Speaker 8: They're down five offensive linemen. They're down Jonathan Jones, they're
- 31:49Speaker 8: down Taekwon Thornton, they're down Isaiah Bolden. Obviously they just
- 31:54Speaker 8: went through a pretty traumatic experience with Isaiah Bolden. It's
- 31:57Speaker 8: gonna be a hundred degrees in Nashville. Like it was
- 32:00Speaker 8: just kind of stacking up all the factors, it felt like.
- 32:03Speaker 8: And I I agree with you though, Paul I. I
- 32:06Speaker 8: kind of was skeptical of the eleven straight days on
- 32:08Speaker 8: the road, mostly for me personally, but also for the team.
- 32:12Speaker 8: And I feel like, you know, I was out there
- 32:15Speaker 8: last year when they we we did Arizona, and I
- 32:18Speaker 8: saw the Raiders game coming from a mile away and
- 32:23Speaker 8: on a mental mistake.
- 32:24Speaker 4: And maybe Bill remembered that and said summer remember ready
- 32:27Speaker 4: to perform in that can remember.
- 32:29Speaker 6: The summer when they were in Vegas for the whole
- 32:31Speaker 6: week in their tweeting And I know Trent.
- 32:33Speaker 4: What he was talking about, Yeah, said Arizona.
- 32:36Speaker 6: To that was the regular season?
- 32:38Speaker 1: They did it again?
- 32:39Speaker 6: Yeah, right, they did. They did it twice. I know
- 32:42Speaker 6: like that, like Evan's talking about the regular season.
- 32:44Speaker 4: When they went from Arizona to the rast, you were
- 32:46Speaker 4: talking about the preseason.
- 32:47Speaker 6: No, No, the preseason.
- 32:50Speaker 4: Brown said I want to go home.
- 32:51Speaker 8: Yeah, I And you think he was the only one. No,
- 32:54Speaker 8: I could just tell that. So, I mean, I've been
- 32:58Speaker 8: over this before. We went to Arizona for the Cardinals game.
- 33:00Speaker 8: That took a bus to Tucson in the middle of
- 33:03Speaker 8: the night, get to Tucson at like three o'clock in
- 33:05Speaker 8: the morning, and then they practiced out there, and when
- 33:08Speaker 8: they got to the Raiders game, like I could just
- 33:11Speaker 8: feel it, like I felt like we were all exhausted
- 33:14Speaker 8: and we didn't even have to practice or play in
- 33:15Speaker 8: an NFL football game on Monday night, and then you
- 33:18Speaker 8: get to the game on Sunday and I was like,
- 33:20Speaker 8: this is something is going to happen in this game.
- 33:23Speaker 6: I did don't have one this year, right, No, we didn't.
- 33:26Speaker 6: We didn't get a West coast Germany. Yeah, but back
- 33:29Speaker 6: to back, we didn't have the West coast trips.
- 33:31Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 33:31Speaker 1: I thought Denver maybe in Dallas or the.
- 33:33Speaker 6: Raiders Denver and the Raiders with people were sort of opining, look,
- 33:38Speaker 6: they'll be back to back and they're not.
- 33:39Speaker 8: Yeah. But I think Fred has a great idea with
- 33:42Speaker 8: the league stepping in starting to find players or even
- 33:44Speaker 8: suspend players if it gets really out of control like
- 33:47Speaker 8: they did hear last year against Carolina, whether it's you have
- 33:51Speaker 8: to give us the tape of the practice that you know,
- 33:54Speaker 8: and you can't stop recording like in between snaps or
- 33:57Speaker 8: like you have to give us the full tape of
- 33:58Speaker 8: the practice of the.
- 34:00Speaker 6: Taping process, like you have to do this and everybody
- 34:03Speaker 6: has to do with the same. And I was I
- 34:05Speaker 6: was even subject to fine.
- 34:06Speaker 4: I was even thinking, you know, with less preseason, if
- 34:09Speaker 4: there are more joint practices going on at the same week,
- 34:13Speaker 4: you may not have enough NFL refs to go around.
- 34:16Speaker 4: Use college, use local college refs. I don't care whatever.
- 34:19Speaker 6: You cannot more joint practices than there are in an
- 34:21Speaker 6: NFL week in the games, No, but the refs are available.
- 34:25Speaker 6: The refs are always at joint practices.
- 34:26Speaker 4: But that time of year they may not be because
- 34:28Speaker 4: they're not full time employees.
- 34:30Speaker 6: But I mean, like last year in Carol and that
- 34:32Speaker 6: fight happened, there were reps.
- 34:33Speaker 4: I'm just saying, whatever it needs to be done to
- 34:36Speaker 4: not allow these things to fester, you know, these like
- 34:40Speaker 4: things that happen, little things, all right. He pushed me,
- 34:42Speaker 4: I push him back, and then.
- 34:43Speaker 6: It's exactly, but I think you have it.
- 34:45Speaker 8: Yeah, exactly what happened with Keon White last week. So
- 34:49Speaker 8: ke On White, it was brewing, like right, it just
- 34:53Speaker 8: continued to like get more and more and more. And uh,
- 34:57Speaker 8: it started because he ran somebody over on punt team
- 35:01Speaker 8: and it was impressive. I mean, he's a two hundred
- 35:04Speaker 8: and eighty pound guy in space and he just trucked
- 35:06Speaker 8: the guy, which was cool. But that's when Green Bay
- 35:09Speaker 8: started to get a little bit annoyed. And then he's
- 35:11Speaker 8: in the trenches and I'm sure as a rookie and
- 35:13Speaker 8: a physical guy, he was probably going a little bit
- 35:16Speaker 8: harder than they thought was right for practice. And some
- 35:20Speaker 8: of the guys in Green Bay started to get mad
- 35:22Speaker 8: and all of a sudden, they're here here gums, you know,
- 35:25Speaker 8: and you could feel it. It was like steps to
- 35:27Speaker 8: get to that point. And then you're seeing helmets fly.
- 35:30Speaker 1: In and the helmet out of it.
- 35:32Speaker 4: I don't know, I.
- 35:33Speaker 6: Came late to what I heard everyone like doing.
- 35:35Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it seemed like on White just grabbed the
- 35:37Speaker 1: guy's helmet.
- 35:38Speaker 6: Threw it out. But that's a perfect like it just
- 35:40Speaker 6: it it. It's gonna happen, And part of this is
- 35:44Speaker 6: on the players themselves. I don't know if anybody saw
- 35:46Speaker 6: any of the game last night Washington and Baltimore. It
- 35:50Speaker 6: was a touchdown twenty four. It was the streak up
- 35:54Speaker 6: at twenty six. I think that's amazing. But there was
- 35:59Speaker 6: a oh I think to Antonio Gibson that he caught
- 36:02Speaker 6: just outside the goal line, bowled his way in. But
- 36:04Speaker 6: it was like a struggle to get in and here
- 36:06Speaker 6: comes an offensive lineman for Washington with a ridiculous cheap
- 36:10Speaker 6: shot like es berries a defensive back trying to knock
- 36:14Speaker 6: him off the pile, and the guy goes flying. The
- 36:18Speaker 6: guy predictably gets up and goes after the guy. So
- 36:21Speaker 6: what happens unnecessary raptiss on both guys. I'm sorry anybody
- 36:26Speaker 6: who watched the play saw what happened. That wasn't not
- 36:29Speaker 6: necessary roughness on both guys.
- 36:31Speaker 8: Twenty four year right, that's twenty fourth straight.
- 36:34Speaker 6: It was twenty four straight and that they had one.
- 36:36Speaker 8: That's that's unbelievable since twenty fifteen.
- 36:38Speaker 1: That's one of the hardest things, Like as a referee
- 36:40Speaker 1: is like the stupid little push and then the reaction
- 36:44Speaker 1: and usually the rest get the reaction inside. But everybody saw,
- 36:47Speaker 1: that's my philosophy.
- 36:48Speaker 6: Everybody saw the rocket shot ye the commander's guy through
- 36:52Speaker 6: throw him out of the game, like make there be
- 36:55Speaker 6: repercussions for that behavior, right, and then maybe it stops.
- 36:58Speaker 8: Well that's what happened to poor Anthony Jennings. So so
- 37:02Speaker 8: Keon White gets swung at by the Packers. The Packers
- 37:06Speaker 8: player threw a punch at him. So Anthony Jennings came
- 37:08Speaker 8: over and Keon White's defense landed a forearm shiver on
- 37:12Speaker 8: the guy. And Anthony Jennings is the one that gets
- 37:15Speaker 8: kicked out of practice.
- 37:16Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, right, he was primed though.
- 37:18Speaker 1: I could tell just from like the early scuffles, like
- 37:21Speaker 1: he was on the sidelines. They're like holding them back,
- 37:23Speaker 1: like you could tell he was, you.
- 37:24Speaker 4: Know, NFL observer at all these joints. The film goes
- 37:28Speaker 4: into the league, the practice film goes into the league,
- 37:31Speaker 4: they make an evaluation and finds indoor suspensions are levied.
- 37:35Speaker 4: That's that you have to do it. I don't know
- 37:37Speaker 4: if treat the pre treat these practices like the game.
- 37:40Speaker 1: I don't know if I saw anything before that that
- 37:42Speaker 1: I would have said that should be a fine.
- 37:44Speaker 4: You know, like like.
- 37:45Speaker 1: There it was just guys locked up, you know, jarring
- 37:49Speaker 1: with each other.
- 37:49Speaker 4: And I you know, I put some of it on
- 37:51Speaker 4: the coaches when you see this stuff starting to happen.
- 37:54Speaker 4: Stop you knock it off? You not, you know, like
- 37:58Speaker 4: they've got to step into they can't just like, you know,
- 38:00Speaker 4: smiled to themselves, like, oh, our guys are tough. You know.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Bill was right in there. Bill was right in there.
- 38:05Speaker 1: He pulled them over. I think it was before the
- 38:07Speaker 1: four defensive ones happened. Then he pulled everybody together, and
- 38:09Speaker 1: then it was the two special teams ones. It takes
- 38:11Speaker 1: all of us, takes all of us, the special teams, Paul,
- 38:14Speaker 1: they let.
- 38:14Speaker 6: Us down again.
- 38:15Speaker 8: All but you obviously worry, and I don't. I don't
- 38:18Speaker 8: think that this is why Kean White got hurt. But
- 38:21Speaker 8: I'm also not ruling it out, Like I'm not saying
- 38:24Speaker 8: somebody took a cheap shot at him, but maybe.
- 38:28Speaker 6: Yeah, right, but without media core if that happened someone, you.
- 38:32Speaker 4: Know, beyond beyond just like football itself, we're talking about
- 38:35Speaker 4: the product, you know, the quality of the product, and
- 38:39Speaker 4: less practices isn't good for anyone, you know, it's not
- 38:41Speaker 4: good for the quality of play. And I'm I'm sick
- 38:44Speaker 4: of this whole thing. Well, September now is an extension
- 38:46Speaker 4: of preseason. It shouldn't be these guys should be prepared
- 38:49Speaker 4: to play. So whatever we can do to get them prepared,
- 38:52Speaker 4: let's do it. You know, Let's not take away opportunities
- 38:56Speaker 4: to prepare. Let's make them better, you know, because you
- 38:59Speaker 4: know people are gonna be like, I'm not watching September
- 39:02Speaker 4: because it's staks. You know, I don't think that's gonna
- 39:05Speaker 4: happen in the near future, but it's progressing that way
- 39:07Speaker 4: where the quality of football early on is not as
- 39:10Speaker 4: good as it is later. And you know, that's not
- 39:13Speaker 4: good for anyone.
- 39:14Speaker 8: It's also not good for the league that these fights
- 39:16Speaker 8: are happening. And I don't I don't mean to like
- 39:18Speaker 8: sound like you know, but it's it's it's not good
- 39:20Speaker 8: for the image of the league that these fights are happening.
- 39:23Speaker 8: And especially I mean, these fights, like Mike said in
- 39:26Speaker 8: Green Bay were nowhere near but what we saw last
- 39:28Speaker 8: year against Carolina here, that's scary, Like that was not
- 39:32Speaker 8: okay near the fans and everything right, and that type
- 39:35Speaker 8: of stuff is just not whether it's it gets a
- 39:38Speaker 8: lot of attention on Twitter and like some people think
- 39:40Speaker 8: it's cool or not, Like it's not cool, and you see,
- 39:43Speaker 8: like an NBA the fans are so close to the
- 39:46Speaker 8: to the court, you know, like these tall, skinny guys
- 39:49Speaker 8: will fall in. Yeah, think about a guy that size
- 39:52Speaker 8: but twice the weight or whatever.
- 39:54Speaker 4: You know, like somebody's gonna get hurt. Wise, Yeah, somebody's
- 39:58Speaker 4: gonna get hurt monster, you know.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Or falling into your angle.
- 40:01Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah. So anyway, that's our preseason rant. But you know,
- 40:07Speaker 4: but I.
- 40:07Speaker 6: Think it will lead to some changes. I don't know.
- 40:09Speaker 6: I don't I don't think people are going to eliminate
- 40:12Speaker 6: them because they're too important.
- 40:13Speaker 4: They too important.
- 40:14Speaker 6: I think that they will change the way maybe that
- 40:17Speaker 6: they they scheduled them and what exactly they're you know
- 40:20Speaker 6: they're doing. Yeah, because I do think they take a toll.
- 40:25Speaker 4: Eight five five pats five hundred. Is the A sticket
- 40:27Speaker 4: hotline web radio dot com, you.
- 40:29Speaker 6: Know what I mean? The email on the road one
- 40:32Speaker 6: joint Well, but I mean, if you're gonna have two
- 40:34Speaker 6: out of the three, you're gonna have joint practices, well,
- 40:36Speaker 6: you know, have one against Houston one against Green Bay
- 40:40Speaker 6: as opposed to having the prospect of two weeks on
- 40:43Speaker 6: the road.
- 40:43Speaker 8: See, I would I would also consider is week one
- 40:47Speaker 8: of the preseason. In week three of the preseason like,
- 40:50Speaker 8: I think breaking them too, bat like that. I think
- 40:52Speaker 8: the back to back is a lot.
- 40:53Speaker 4: Well let's but let's think ahead. Let's think about when
- 40:57Speaker 4: it comes to the day where there's only two preseason games,
- 41:00Speaker 4: assuming that they're going to start the season at the
- 41:02Speaker 4: same time, you're going to have more space now, you know,
- 41:06Speaker 4: So do you you know, keep the last two preseason
- 41:10Speaker 4: games so that you know they equal what two and
- 41:13Speaker 4: three are now and you have more time with your
- 41:15Speaker 4: team that beat up to it.
- 41:17Speaker 6: You know, that would be my guest. But I don't know,
- 41:19Speaker 6: because I know there is a timetable for when training
- 41:23Speaker 6: camp starts. It's like fifteen days ahead of the first game,
- 41:27Speaker 6: So I don't know.
- 41:28Speaker 4: All of this is going to have to be renegotiated.
- 41:30Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I like.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Evan's idea one in three.
- 41:32Speaker 6: Oh I break.
- 41:33Speaker 1: I like this break that we're about to go on
- 41:35Speaker 1: next week where and I think they probably like it
- 41:37Speaker 1: too that they have, you know, two weeks really to prepare.
- 41:40Speaker 1: Nobody's really watching practices anymore. I definitely wouldn't bring back
- 41:43Speaker 1: that fourth preseason game like right before Labor Day weekend.
- 41:46Speaker 4: Oh, they're never going to do that. That's gone forever. Yeah, yeah,
- 41:49Speaker 4: I can tell you. Yeah, no, I know, but but again,
- 41:55Speaker 4: more practice is good. It's good for the quality of
- 41:58Speaker 4: the game.
- 41:59Speaker 6: In September, question it would be, do you push back
- 42:01Speaker 6: the start of camp like they didn't. They kept everything
- 42:03Speaker 6: as is one, two, three, They just eliminated four. If
- 42:07Speaker 6: you're eliminating now three, do you keep it where it
- 42:11Speaker 6: is and do one two and then have a long
- 42:12Speaker 6: break or do you push everything back a week and
- 42:15Speaker 6: make it like two three the way it is now?
- 42:18Speaker 1: I think if you had a home game in and
- 42:19Speaker 1: away game so you can kind of get everybody on
- 42:21Speaker 1: the same page as far as travel and just understanding
- 42:23Speaker 1: how things work on the road. But you know, having
- 42:25Speaker 1: that maybe a little bit of a week in between
- 42:27Speaker 1: to get back to fix, to figure out, you know,
- 42:30Speaker 1: how you want to reset, and then you know you're
- 42:32Speaker 1: not kind of just like right back onto a game
- 42:33Speaker 1: schedule where yeah, we're doing training camp, but you're also
- 42:36Speaker 1: kind of preparing, you know, like that's all.
- 42:37Speaker 6: If there's all going to be two, maybe you do
- 42:39Speaker 6: it in week one the way it is now, and
- 42:41Speaker 6: then you have a week off and then you do
- 42:43Speaker 6: week three the way it is now.
- 42:44Speaker 1: Because I mean, how quick did we see that they're
- 42:47Speaker 1: just running plays off cards. Now they're starting to do
- 42:49Speaker 1: stuff that Houston's gonna do. You know, we start to
- 42:51Speaker 1: see like light prap.
- 42:52Speaker 6: Not that if you have to have some sort of
- 42:55Speaker 6: base knowledge, you don't want to say. Bill always says,
- 42:57Speaker 6: you don't want to send your guys out there running
- 43:00Speaker 6: into a brick wall. So you have to know what
- 43:02Speaker 6: the other.
- 43:02Speaker 1: Team's going today. They're going to be out there. There's
- 43:04Speaker 1: probably not we're going to see it, probably, but you
- 43:05Speaker 1: know there's gonna be some Tennessee prep like you know,
- 43:07Speaker 1: they have to go right into that instead of I mean,
- 43:09Speaker 1: wouldn't you love not to say this is what I'm
- 43:11Speaker 1: pitching because this is the third week. But you know,
- 43:14Speaker 1: if you had some time after a game to really
- 43:15Speaker 1: all right, this is what we really need to work on.
- 43:17Speaker 1: Let's not think about an opponent right now. Let's think
- 43:19Speaker 1: about us for a week and then we'll get back
- 43:21Speaker 1: into preparing for us.
- 43:22Speaker 4: And just says there's no need for joint practices. Move
- 43:25Speaker 4: to eighteen games, move to two preseason games, no more
- 43:28Speaker 4: joint practices. Problem solved.
- 43:29Speaker 6: I think, you know practice, How does that solve the problem?
- 43:32Speaker 8: Yeah, I think that that's.
- 43:34Speaker 6: Less less prepared. Right now, you're taking another game and
- 43:38Speaker 6: practice away from them.
- 43:39Speaker 1: Yeah, other than the physicality of like I said, of
- 43:42Speaker 1: tackling and the quarterback being live in the pocket and
- 43:45Speaker 1: having a true sense of what the protection is like,
- 43:48Speaker 1: I just I think situationally for your playbuck for your
- 43:51Speaker 1: install like where you're, hey, we're gonna run like thirty
- 43:54Speaker 1: red zone plays right now, Like that's immensely valuable. You
- 43:57Speaker 1: do it in a preseason game, you might not get won.
- 44:00Speaker 4: I mean you have to practice like you play too,
- 44:04Speaker 4: you know, like football is what it is. At some
- 44:07Speaker 4: point you got to play at full You got to
- 44:08Speaker 4: practice at full speed or you're not going to be prepared.
- 44:12Speaker 8: This was full tilt in Green Bay. This was a game,
- 44:17Speaker 8: live game speed other than tackling, and it was as
- 44:22Speaker 8: as competitive of a joint practices I've ever seen. I mean,
- 44:25Speaker 8: it was great.
- 44:26Speaker 4: The quarterback needs to see it at full speed so
- 44:28Speaker 4: we can get in tune with his decision making and
- 44:31Speaker 4: his I mean that's what it is. It was great.
- 44:34Speaker 4: You have to practice like you play.
- 44:36Speaker 8: It was fantastic. I mean the second day this why
- 44:40Speaker 8: you know the fans obviously it's your in enemy territory,
- 44:43Speaker 8: so to speak, and you know, they're going back and forth,
- 44:46Speaker 8: and it was it was game like, you know, it
- 44:49Speaker 8: really felt like it was a game, and almost even
- 44:51Speaker 8: more intimate because of the obviously it's a smaller area,
- 44:55Speaker 8: but also because there's no it's not on TV, so like
- 44:58Speaker 8: you're sitting there behind the sideline and you're hearing Jabriel
- 45:00Speaker 8: Peppers chirping, which I your Alexander, and you're you're seeing
- 45:03Speaker 8: the back and forth and guys coming off the sideline
- 45:06Speaker 8: and their reactions.
- 45:07Speaker 4: And I think, other than the chippiness, I think the
- 45:09Speaker 4: quality of those practices helped Bill make the decision to
- 45:13Speaker 4: not have as.
- 45:15Speaker 6: I agree that absolute yeah, you know, and not that
- 45:18Speaker 6: it was the same, but like even the game, the
- 45:22Speaker 6: game wasn't tremendously well played. Okay, it was better than
- 45:25Speaker 6: the Houston game, but still a preseason game. The crowd though,
- 45:29Speaker 6: seventy thousand, but like unreal, but seventy thousand that you
- 45:32Speaker 6: could hear on TV. Yeah, like the crowd's getting a
- 45:36Speaker 6: lot like that. You know, part of me like chuckles
- 45:39Speaker 6: about it, but they were into the game. That's probably
- 45:43Speaker 6: for a coach or visiting coach like this is pretty good. Oh,
- 45:45Speaker 6: it's a good hostile road environment, you know, in a
- 45:48Speaker 6: game that doesn't matter. It was crazy, how like it
- 45:52Speaker 6: was that translated. It was like you could hear it
- 45:54Speaker 6: on TV that translated love.
- 45:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:56Speaker 8: I mean I would say the crowd like last year
- 45:58Speaker 8: when they played them in the regular season obviously better,
- 46:00Speaker 8: but that for a preseason game, that was that was crazy.
- 46:04Speaker 8: I mean it was packed.
- 46:06Speaker 4: Yep. Yeah, it's like going to church in Green Bay.
- 46:09Speaker 4: I mean, you don't miss, you don't miss.
- 46:12Speaker 6: Matt Smith said, you know, he was going out to
- 46:14Speaker 6: practice and then you know, and going around the field
- 46:17Speaker 6: there was this big pile. They still have, like their
- 46:20Speaker 6: their newspaper. Oh yeah, you know if it's Packers Weekly
- 46:23Speaker 6: or whatever it is. But you know, those mid Midwesterners,
- 46:26Speaker 6: they're not going to give up their paper.
- 46:27Speaker 4: How paper cheese curds.
- 46:30Speaker 6: Have some cheese curds.
- 46:31Speaker 4: I did. I had a little bit. Yeah, the ones
- 46:34Speaker 4: I had weren't as good as the ones we had
- 46:36Speaker 4: last year.
- 46:39Speaker 6: There's the deuce face cheese curds.
- 46:43Speaker 4: Well, what's wrong with cheese curds? You didn't like it?
- 46:48Speaker 8: Really, that's a hot take.
- 46:50Speaker 6: That is a hot take.
- 46:51Speaker 1: It's just a giant hunk of cheese.
- 46:53Speaker 4: Yeah, what's wrong with cheese?
- 46:56Speaker 9: That is?
- 46:57Speaker 4: But everything's better.
- 46:59Speaker 1: I'm on your side of this, you right now.
- 47:00Speaker 6: But Breddit, it made it even better, made it even
- 47:03Speaker 6: worse for you.
- 47:03Speaker 1: I know.
- 47:05Speaker 6: I'm not just a kid.
- 47:05Speaker 4: I like it all right.
- 47:07Speaker 6: Let's get to the he's too old for it evolved.
- 47:10Speaker 4: Let's get to the calls and emails. Eight five to
- 47:12Speaker 4: five pats five hundred. We'll start with Todd North Carolina.
- 47:15Speaker 4: What's up, Todd.
- 47:17Speaker 10: I love your conversation about the preseason because I think
- 47:20Speaker 10: it's right into what I said in the post game,
- 47:24Speaker 10: the post preseason game thing with Hardy and the guys.
- 47:27Speaker 10: I said, my two concerns are right now. My only
- 47:31Speaker 10: two concerns in the line play of the defense and
- 47:33Speaker 10: the offensive line. And you're right, without enough practices, they're
- 47:37Speaker 10: the ones that suffer the most because if they're not
- 47:38Speaker 10: getting contact, full contact, aggressive contact, they're not developing, they're
- 47:43Speaker 10: not getting into game shape, they're not getting ready. And
- 47:45Speaker 10: I look at those two lines and I watch it.
- 47:48Speaker 10: I know a lot of with backups and stuff, but
- 47:50Speaker 10: I think our starting d line was out there for
- 47:53Speaker 10: a good part of the first half, and they couldn't
- 47:56Speaker 10: stop the run, as you know, man, they couldn't up
- 47:59Speaker 10: the run if they were than you know, dangerous. It
- 48:01Speaker 10: just seemed like the Green Bay went, well, we're going
- 48:04Speaker 10: to run the ball, now, what do you want to
- 48:05Speaker 10: do about it? And we had no answer. And I'm like, yeah,
- 48:08Speaker 10: I know, it's preseason. I know that that's you know, alarmist,
- 48:11Speaker 10: but you know it just those little things, that's the
- 48:13Speaker 10: only thing right now. I think our pastor our receivers
- 48:16Speaker 10: are good. I like where Max's brain is. I think
- 48:18Speaker 10: somebody said that Max seems to be back to old
- 48:20Speaker 10: Mac where he's anticipating and throwing cricket. I just if
- 48:23Speaker 10: the line doesn't give him time, it doesn't matter. He's
- 48:26Speaker 10: gonna be on his back. So and then if we
- 48:28Speaker 10: can't stop the run, it's going to be a long season.
- 48:30Speaker 10: So I know, what do you think.
- 48:31Speaker 1: I'm not worried about the defense time line. I mean,
- 48:33Speaker 1: they have the horses. I'm not worried about I think
- 48:36Speaker 1: they'll be fine. And I mean I think as much
- 48:38Speaker 1: as I'm fine with the personnel, I also think Paul's
- 48:40Speaker 1: probably bigger point is like it doesn't really matter that
- 48:43Speaker 1: much anyway.
- 48:43Speaker 6: Like you know, like, you don't have to go.
- 48:45Speaker 1: I don't want the ball to be the ultimate shutdown
- 48:48Speaker 1: run defense to be a great defense.
- 48:50Speaker 6: I think that's an easy fix. It's about let's put
- 48:51Speaker 6: it that way, right.
- 48:52Speaker 1: And it's like I said, it's the Ted Johnson thing.
- 48:54Speaker 1: It's like a bunch of veterans that have been doing
- 48:56Speaker 1: this forever. And yeah, you're in the preseason, and I'm
- 48:58Speaker 1: sure you'd like him to play better. But I think
- 49:01Speaker 1: when the when, when, when it's live, they'll they'll be
- 49:03Speaker 1: stop ahead on But Jalen hurts, That's that's another I
- 49:06Speaker 1: have a lot.
- 49:07Speaker 6: More concerns about the consistency of the in production of
- 49:10Speaker 6: the passing game than I do stopping the runs. You know,
- 49:14Speaker 6: Max brain aside, I'm not sure that they're talented enough
- 49:18Speaker 6: and consistent enough to produce at a high enough level.
- 49:21Speaker 1: No, I like the third downs though, I mean I
- 49:22Speaker 1: thought they had.
- 49:23Speaker 6: I liked a lot of the We talked a lot
- 49:24Speaker 6: about it the post game. I like a lot of
- 49:26Speaker 6: the stuff that I saw in this game, and I
- 49:27Speaker 6: didn't like a lot of other stuff too. Like that's
- 49:29Speaker 6: what I'm talking about. The consistency.
- 49:31Speaker 8: Yeah, I have zero concern about the run defense not
- 49:34Speaker 8: me too. Right now. The pass rush, I thought, I
- 49:39Speaker 8: I don't have concerns about they'll be better at pressuring
- 49:42Speaker 8: the quarterback if that's the plan against Philly. Philly is
- 49:46Speaker 8: going to hang forty five on them, Like I'm just
- 49:48Speaker 8: like that that they cannot if they're going to mush
- 49:50Speaker 8: rush Jalen Hurts and that's going to be the approach is, Oh,
- 49:53Speaker 8: let's just keep them in the pocket and not actually
- 49:55Speaker 8: get any pressure on him. I'll put it at fifty
- 49:58Speaker 8: for the Eagles.
- 49:59Speaker 6: We I agree now what I would wow when I
- 50:02Speaker 6: was a little disappointed about with the pass rush. That's
- 50:05Speaker 6: different than the run. I'm not sort of whistling past
- 50:07Speaker 6: the graveyard because I think Evan's right about that. I
- 50:12Speaker 6: would have liked to have seen more guys just win
- 50:14Speaker 6: a one on one. Like I know, they didn't do
- 50:16Speaker 6: anything exotic the other night. They blitzed a little bit,
- 50:19Speaker 6: Mills came for you once and the the bat just
- 50:23Speaker 6: completely swallowed them. But I didn't see a lot of
- 50:27Speaker 6: like tight like tackle and stuff. But I think that
- 50:31Speaker 6: they still have to scheme to get their pressure, and
- 50:33Speaker 6: that to me worries me a little bit.
- 50:34Speaker 4: I thought that I thought swallowed up.
- 50:36Speaker 1: Yeah, he definitely did. It seemed like they were running
- 50:39Speaker 1: right at him. But but I would say the first
- 50:41Speaker 1: day joint practice, I was impressed with the pass rush.
- 50:43Speaker 1: I thought that they were like Judon, especially Dietrich wise,
- 50:45Speaker 1: like they had a good day. And then what I
- 50:47Speaker 1: felt like the second day was that there wasn't a
- 50:50Speaker 1: lot of pressure, but it was better on the back end.
- 50:51Speaker 1: The coverage was better. I don't know what kind of stuff.
- 50:54Speaker 6: Coverage started really good the other night, the first two drives,
- 50:56Speaker 6: I mean the first drive, like I thought there were
- 50:58Speaker 6: two plays, what I mean, Jack Jones gave up a completion,
- 51:01Speaker 6: but I don't think you could play it much better
- 51:03Speaker 6: than he did. And then Myles Bryant had a really
- 51:06Speaker 6: good coverage on a third down that got him off
- 51:08Speaker 6: the field.
- 51:08Speaker 1: After that, I heard you talk about it. I think
- 51:10Speaker 1: during the broadcast was and it seemed to me like
- 51:13Speaker 1: they played a little more man in practice.
- 51:15Speaker 6: Yeah, I was trying to figure out out you're meant
- 51:17Speaker 6: to ask Evan that too, like that's that's more stuff
- 51:20Speaker 6: on TV you can't see. And I asked Zoe in
- 51:22Speaker 6: the middle of it, and I got a meet dad
- 51:24Speaker 6: from Zah. That's a good point, Paul. You know, like
- 51:27Speaker 6: I didn't really get it there is did they play
- 51:30Speaker 6: like I know later they were playing zone. I could
- 51:32Speaker 6: see you could see the soft coverage that Gonzales had
- 51:35Speaker 6: and Wade had, and they weren't zones. Now, I always say, like,
- 51:39Speaker 6: even though it's zone, it's still man in your zone.
- 51:41Speaker 6: You got to try to prevent completions. But early in
- 51:45Speaker 6: the game, did you see them playing man at all?
- 51:46Speaker 6: A little bit?
- 51:47Speaker 8: But I think my concern from a defensive point of
- 51:52Speaker 8: view at that entire game is that that was up
- 51:56Speaker 8: what they're gonna do against Philly. Okay, and if that's
- 51:59Speaker 8: how they're going to play the Eagles, I just said it,
- 52:01Speaker 8: they'll they'll score forty five.
- 52:02Speaker 6: Because that's a cut rate version of what you're going
- 52:05Speaker 6: to see with Philly. Like I'm sorry, Jordan loves not
- 52:07Speaker 6: at the level that that offense was last year. One
- 52:11Speaker 6: throws yeah, now, I thought, listen, he got up to
- 52:13Speaker 6: a really slow start, made a couple of really bad
- 52:16Speaker 6: decisions early in the game. That throw on third down
- 52:19Speaker 6: to Dobbs with Jack Jones on him. You can't make
- 52:23Speaker 6: a better throw than that. That was. Do you see
- 52:25Speaker 6: that happen to seeing it like replays of that literally
- 52:28Speaker 6: had this much to get it to When he put
- 52:30Speaker 6: it right on his hand, it was then you know,
- 52:34Speaker 6: they got moving a little bit. The deep ball, I
- 52:37Speaker 6: thought that was kind of a junt like and Sooe
- 52:40Speaker 6: agrees with you, was like, this beautiful drops it in
- 52:43Speaker 6: the bucket. I thought that if he just threw it
- 52:46Speaker 6: out in front of him and let him run to it,
- 52:48Speaker 6: it might have been a little bit easier. The guy
- 52:49Speaker 6: had made an incredible catch.
- 52:51Speaker 8: Yeah, I just defensively, they all they did in terms
- 52:55Speaker 8: of the blitzes was they just added on a rusher.
- 52:57Speaker 8: It was just second level guys just coming and making
- 52:59Speaker 8: it five on five.
- 53:00Speaker 6: I think that that might be the plan against Philly because.
- 53:03Speaker 8: When you do that, you're covering all five gaps, so
- 53:05Speaker 8: you're not You're trying not to let the quarterback out
- 53:07Speaker 8: of the pocket. It's not so much about getting after him.
- 53:12Speaker 8: It's more about making Sarah that you can. And you know,
- 53:16Speaker 8: it's funny because I remember a few years ago Belichick
- 53:18Speaker 8: talked about cover zero and against mobile quarterbacks. The one
- 53:22Speaker 8: advantage of running a lot of cover zero is he
- 53:25Speaker 8: can't get out of the pocket. There's no place for
- 53:26Speaker 8: him to go. And I just worry that they're gonna
- 53:30Speaker 8: they're gonna use a five man rush package that's very
- 53:33Speaker 8: very vanilla and basic in terms of stunting and things
- 53:36Speaker 8: like that, and it's just gonna be straight up and
- 53:40Speaker 8: maybe a Jude Honor and Uch gets a carte blanche
- 53:43Speaker 8: to to do whatever he's got to do to get
- 53:45Speaker 8: out after the quarterback, but everybody else is gonna be
- 53:47Speaker 8: focused on keeping the quarterback in the pocket. I would
- 53:51Speaker 8: much rather than go after Jalen Hurts and use a spy,
- 53:55Speaker 8: you know, to use somebody athletic to spy him instead,
- 53:58Speaker 8: because at least then he's not just sitting back there,
- 54:00Speaker 8: and I would throwing the ball like it's seven on seven.
- 54:03Speaker 6: And I'm not saying that Love and Hurts the same,
- 54:06Speaker 6: because I just said Hurts has been to you know,
- 54:08Speaker 6: two full years as a starter. So but you saw
- 54:11Speaker 6: the difference early in the game when Love was sort
- 54:13Speaker 6: of flustered. I thought one of the very first you know,
- 54:16Speaker 6: little misdirection play actions, He's looking to boot and get
- 54:20Speaker 6: out and have all kinds of space and Ditrich Wise
- 54:22Speaker 6: just right in his face and he almost threw the
- 54:24Speaker 6: ball to us. Yeah, you know, like I think that's
- 54:26Speaker 6: the better way to go at those guys, like make
- 54:28Speaker 6: them make fast decisions, right. It was you know, these
- 54:31Speaker 6: young quarterbacks, they don't have this timing.
- 54:34Speaker 1: It was such an interesting contrast for me, just you know,
- 54:36Speaker 1: getting to watch Joe and Love up close for those
- 54:38Speaker 1: two days of practice, because it's like you said, it's
- 54:40Speaker 1: like I'm kind of used to Mac right now, which
- 54:42Speaker 1: we know we get. With Mac, it's maybe not explosive
- 54:44Speaker 1: down the field, but he's generally pretty consistent, you know,
- 54:46Speaker 1: Like it's not like all of a sudden.
- 54:48Speaker 6: There's just like what was that?
- 54:50Speaker 1: But with Love, it's such a like up and down.
- 54:52Speaker 1: Like some of the throws to Christian Watson, you're like,
- 54:55Speaker 1: oh my god that you know, he's big dude.
- 54:57Speaker 6: Oh he's perfect. He throws it right there.
- 55:00Speaker 1: But then you have just brain fark decisions where all
- 55:02Speaker 1: of a sudden, it looks like he lost his mind
- 55:04Speaker 1: and he has no idea what to do, Like you're just.
- 55:06Speaker 6: Such he did one of those pass across his body,
- 55:09Speaker 6: like I think the first might have been the first
- 55:11Speaker 6: throw of the game. Well, he's sort of rolling a
- 55:14Speaker 6: little bit right and he's throwing it back to the left.
- 55:16Speaker 6: You can't do that. It's very lucky not to get it.
- 55:18Speaker 1: It's got to be intriguing, you know for people watching
- 55:20Speaker 1: that team and hoping that that he does well, because
- 55:22Speaker 1: it's like you have it, like you look, you can
- 55:25Speaker 1: do it.
- 55:25Speaker 4: It's there, like we know it is.
- 55:26Speaker 6: But it's just how do you find that they have
- 55:29Speaker 6: some pieces too in place? I think on both sides
- 55:31Speaker 6: of the ball where it's it's probably not going to
- 55:33Speaker 6: all be about him. They could be well, I mean,
- 55:36Speaker 6: and they're in a a let's face it, the NFC
- 55:38Speaker 6: is not very strong.
- 55:39Speaker 1: It's hard not to watch them and compare what they're
- 55:42Speaker 1: doing with their post Rogers rebuild that compared to what
- 55:45Speaker 1: the Patriots were last year. They took two receivers that
- 55:48Speaker 1: were pretty good. This year they took Jayden Reed, they
- 55:51Speaker 1: took the two tight ends like we thought they were
- 55:52Speaker 1: going to take, which you know, Leake Musgrave look look
- 55:55Speaker 1: really athletic, look like he fit right into that. So
- 55:58Speaker 1: you know, I think that that's the route that a
- 56:00Speaker 1: lot of us kind of wish that the Patriots had done.
- 56:03Speaker 1: You know, let's just overinvest it, not overinvest, but let's
- 56:05Speaker 1: just draft weapons high early a bunch of them. And
- 56:09Speaker 1: now we'll see with Jordan Love and I mean Christian Watson.
- 56:12Speaker 1: I think he's gonna have an outstanding here.
- 56:14Speaker 4: All right. Eight five to five past five hundred Web

- 57:12Speaker 7: Loving company now, breast is It's a thurther down in
- 57:14Speaker 7: five snapped through his hands and the pursuit of the
- 57:19Speaker 7: ball the Patriots look to recover for the second straight win.
- 57:23Speaker 7: I'm takeaway, I'm a game first serian.
- 57:26Speaker 12: You know this isn't the disastrous two plays here by
- 57:30Speaker 12: Jordan Love, you know, sort of floating that ball up
- 57:32Speaker 12: there off the back foot, off the pressure and not
- 57:36Speaker 12: really giving him great effort.
- 57:38Speaker 5: Here the ball snapped early, hits him on the shoulder.
- 57:40Speaker 12: He turns to look at the pressure, has a shot
- 57:43Speaker 12: at he can't get at it. And it's just a
- 57:46Speaker 12: good job by these guys swarming to the ball.
- 57:48Speaker 5: Now you gotta capitalize.
- 57:51Speaker 7: Second down and ten plus for the bats. Smith's Schuster
- 57:54Speaker 7: slots run Jones off the playfake and the arm you
- 57:57Speaker 7: go a throat all in the middle and on the
- 57:59Speaker 7: slant a first down for New England to Kendrick Bourne.
- 58:02Speaker 12: Pretty pretty play, great action by the quarterback Mac Jones
- 58:06Speaker 12: right here off the play fate.
- 58:07Speaker 5: It's a quick.
- 58:08Speaker 12: Slang slant bang round inside. He sticks it right on
- 58:11Speaker 12: the hands of Bourne. Man, if we could just progress
- 58:14Speaker 12: like that to do that.
- 58:15Speaker 5: Move the ball to second and eleven play, We're gonna
- 58:18Speaker 5: win some football.
- 58:18Speaker 9: Games this year.
- 58:20Speaker 5: Fight formation Jones with a check and a gift.
- 58:24Speaker 7: Steve Ansen rams it up the middle touchdown Patriots.
- 58:30Speaker 12: Let's gonna start right there, and you can see the
- 58:31Speaker 12: rookies getting fired up there and he off had some line,
- 58:35Speaker 12: good start off the turnover, took advantage of the penalty.
- 58:40Speaker 12: Just a counter gift to the right side Andrews gets
- 58:42Speaker 12: him spun enough. So with some good movement on that
- 58:46Speaker 12: right side, Kendrick Bourne being invigorated for the Patriots.
- 58:52Speaker 7: One of the three receivers did Boyd right before he
- 58:55Speaker 7: heads in motion drops the formation.
- 59:00Speaker 5: Went Henry stays on the tight.
- 59:02Speaker 7: End left to Matt Jones with a change Klana Scrimmage
- 59:06Speaker 7: turns and gives Stevenson past the caase across the twenty.
- 59:10Speaker 7: Stevenson past the thirty track down by the shirttail.
- 59:15Speaker 5: The heck of a run. Heck of a run by Ramadre.
- 59:18Speaker 12: Stevenson increases this and it's a good checkof by Mac.
- 59:21Speaker 12: You can see him tap the top and top of
- 59:22Speaker 12: the shoulder pads goes to.
- 59:24Speaker 5: Another run play. So that's one of those check with mes.
- 59:27Speaker 5: He likes it to that left side and there's the block.
- 59:29Speaker 5: Who's that from? Is that born again? In a good
- 59:31Speaker 5: job by the left tackle that is Kendrick.
- 59:34Speaker 12: Born Again coming in from the top of your screen
- 59:36Speaker 12: and a great run by Romadre.
- 59:40Speaker 5: Henry back out there for the Patriots for tight end
- 59:43Speaker 5: went with the motion at the bottom of the screen.
- 59:47Speaker 7: On a third down and nine, Stevenson joins Jones Lamari
- 59:51Speaker 7: let the team in receptions a year ago. Out of
- 59:52Speaker 7: the backfield, man goes down, so.
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: The open pocket collapsing. That's tough one right there. Third
- 1:00:03Speaker 5: long you got City, so right there, get a little
- 1:00:05Speaker 5: pressure and it's just the inside pressure to the strength
- 1:00:08Speaker 5: of a quarterback on that right side.
- 1:00:09Speaker 12: You see City right there. He got under his path
- 1:00:12Speaker 12: level and that's the killer right there. You gotta have
- 1:00:14Speaker 12: that leverage and as a young player you'll learn from that.
- 1:00:18Speaker 12: Coach Belichick said, these guys got some good rush ends
- 1:00:20Speaker 12: and the City gets some really good reps this week
- 1:00:23Speaker 12: in the joints, but nothing replicates game Scoop, I think
- 1:00:28Speaker 12: you can get more man with pressure on the third
- 1:00:30Speaker 12: as opposed to first six second.
- 1:00:32Speaker 7: Just God loves going after the rookie boy with a
- 1:00:34Speaker 7: shot for dogs, and he's out about seeing you're playing
- 1:00:39Speaker 7: on a beautiful throw by Jordan Love.
- 1:00:42Speaker 12: I need I need to take another peek at this
- 1:00:44Speaker 12: one again because it felt like to me the Jordan
- 1:00:47Speaker 12: Love drop tis in the bucket right over the shoulder.
- 1:00:50Speaker 12: You see bold right there. He gets a great release.
- 1:00:52Speaker 12: But look at the recovery.
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: And we gotta take another look at the feet.
- 1:00:57Speaker 5: Did he get both feet?
- 1:00:59Speaker 7: It's a fantastic to throw in out on the left Revere.
- 1:01:06Speaker 7: John Hussey has gone to the tablet. The Packers are
- 1:01:10Speaker 7: gone to midfield.
- 1:01:11Speaker 5: The receiver did complete the keats.
- 1:01:15Speaker 7: Now Pape's defending here on the second down and five
- 1:01:21Speaker 7: plus with their seven nothing Mills Love again the play.
- 1:01:24Speaker 13: Thing looking to the end zone out the Jammer blutch
- 1:01:27Speaker 13: complete and.
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: A touchdown for Janeen Reed's great trawl.
- 1:01:31Speaker 7: Great trow, great pickup off the Mills on the blitz.
- 1:01:36Speaker 12: Oh we get another.
- 1:01:36Speaker 5: We had another flag here on a kiptoo of Yado
- 1:01:39Speaker 5: little the building.
- 1:01:44Speaker 6: They're gonna, they're.
- 1:01:44Speaker 5: Gonna, these reps are gonna step in and not let
- 1:01:46Speaker 5: this game get away. That's it's probably smart one.
- 1:01:49Speaker 7: Here, So Lambeau late by Jade and Reed the second
- 1:01:54Speaker 7: round pick a rookie from Michigan State and the end
- 1:02:00Speaker 7: he said, Jones, identifying the projections Matt him from me high,
- 1:02:09Speaker 7: Well you're on it, Green Bay Hazards now the first
- 1:02:17Speaker 7: and goal. Give a hop to the left and Green
- 1:02:20Speaker 7: Bay is about to take the leisure a.
- 1:02:22Speaker 5: Touchdown for Patrick Taylor. It's a tough one Withtucha get
- 1:02:28Speaker 5: tucked down outside. How often you really see him lose.
- 1:02:31Speaker 9: Containment, especially to the white side of the field like
- 1:02:34Speaker 9: that man.
- 1:02:38Speaker 7: Second down in ten for the Pats and Zappy I
- 1:02:40Speaker 7: wanted you to go and I have quick throat.
- 1:02:42Speaker 5: I sty snacks it.
- 1:02:44Speaker 7: Daddy warns it away from the touch down.
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: Forty two yards.
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: Oh baby, it was.
- 1:02:52Speaker 5: It's a dart off to pack foot. I love the
- 1:02:56Speaker 5: slam wrong, I do.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: I really like it. You saw it early in the
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: game with Kendrick Bourne.
- 1:03:01Speaker 7: Carlson, younger brother of the Las Vegas plays kicker, the
- 1:03:05Speaker 7: outstanding Daniel Carlson. This is a fifty two yard try
- 1:03:08Speaker 7: hit from forty five last week in Cincinnati for the
- 1:03:11Speaker 7: lead to win the half. The kick his air borne
- 1:03:13Speaker 7: to the up block and Green Vegas back it drop
- 1:03:22Speaker 7: still a second on the clock here on the opening
- 1:03:26Speaker 7: half from Lambeau. Again here for JJ Taylor, guard's cast
- 1:03:31Speaker 7: being filmed and stumbling inside the forty five with the first.
- 1:03:35Speaker 11: Down run.
- 1:03:38Speaker 5: Fifteen yards for JJ all right, we're gonna take a
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: look at JJ. It's a quick little give off the
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: right side.
- 1:03:45Speaker 6: Okay, here's so cool.
- 1:03:46Speaker 5: Here, we're gonna see what's the XBlock look like? He
- 1:03:48Speaker 5: seals it right there.
- 1:03:49Speaker 12: Emilie Cunningham squares his guy up and allows JJ to
- 1:03:52Speaker 12: cut back inside for an extra nine yards.
- 1:03:56Speaker 7: Zappy off the fake streams of the tailor. JJ sets
- 1:03:59Speaker 7: up the blocks well.
- 1:04:00Speaker 5: The first down run.
- 1:04:01Speaker 7: Up ended inside the forty five kat.
- 1:04:05Speaker 5: It's like you'll be leak cutting him.
- 1:04:07Speaker 12: Certain guys have a certain different level of speed, and
- 1:04:11Speaker 12: JJ's off set there to the right gets a little
- 1:04:13Speaker 12: chip for leases out to set up screen reads it perfectly,
- 1:04:17Speaker 12: and remember the offensive linement cannot.
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: Cut it now, so you can't cut block on these screens.
- 1:04:24Speaker 7: Cutting out sets up top of your screen. Harris shifts
- 1:04:29Speaker 7: to the left hand of Sappy.
- 1:04:30Speaker 5: He's got to receiver stat right.
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: It is.
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: Flushed right right right, Triffic.
- 1:04:36Speaker 7: Faily running and walking in ka trance take the lead
- 1:04:40Speaker 7: touchdown New England.
- 1:04:43Speaker 12: Good feet by Sappy. Because there was nothing there right here.
- 1:04:46Speaker 12: They reset JJ from right to the left. I thought
- 1:04:50Speaker 12: he had JJ in the left flat. He was never
- 1:04:52Speaker 12: looking left. So you see JJ. He's going here to
- 1:04:56Speaker 12: the flat, you know, off the stamp. He's thinking, Okay,
- 1:05:00Speaker 12: no it's not it's actually hair.
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: Sorry, but I thought he had it. But then you know,
- 1:05:04Speaker 5: he stayed right.
- 1:05:05Speaker 12: And if once you stay right and everybody's deep and
- 1:05:07Speaker 12: he ends on, now you got a whole.
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: Area where you can run to. That's good feet, good
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: scamper by Zappi's.
- 1:05:17Speaker 13: There's a Slanti Slander in front of Boulder, caught by
- 1:05:20Speaker 13: a heath and balling him and shaking up, and he's
- 1:05:22Speaker 13: got immediately calling for the medical team off the sideline.
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: Quick. I think you got hit flas own guy.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: You can hear the pop.
- 1:05:36Speaker 7: From up here, and immediately you saw the reaction from
- 1:05:40Speaker 7: players on.
- 1:05:41Speaker 5: Both teams, immediately.
- 1:05:42Speaker 7: Frantically waving for the Patriots medical team.
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: Time out of Green Bay.
- 1:05:50Speaker 7: Hare lambeau Field, Isaia Bolden, the injured Patriot has been
- 1:05:53Speaker 7: taken off. The conversation continued between Bill Belichick and Matt Lafleur.
- 1:05:57Speaker 6: Matthews.
- 1:05:58Speaker 7: Later the Patriots long time attacked and in John Hussey,
- 1:06:01Speaker 7: the referee, who also appeared to be talking into his headset,
- 1:06:04Speaker 7: we presume, resulting with NFL officials perhaps.
- 1:06:09Speaker 6: Back in the NFL US.
- 1:06:12Speaker 12: At the agreement of both head coaches and the team leadership,
- 1:06:15Speaker 12: we have elected to suspend play for the ring even
- 1:06:18Speaker 12: the game is officially over, thank you.
- 1:06:28Speaker 7: Foll.
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:06:33Speaker 7: So it was in inkling the way the whole scene
- 1:06:36Speaker 7: unfolded that the coaches were conversing about that.
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: There was a long conversation obviously.
- 1:06:40Speaker 7: As the medical attention continued on the field for Isaiah Bolden.
- 1:06:46Speaker 7: And then when Bill Belichick called over Matthews ledder, that.
- 1:06:48Speaker 9: Was that was That was the indicator, you know, Matt
- 1:06:51Speaker 9: Matt was over whatever the team, he had them down.
- 1:06:53Speaker 9: And then yeah, as you could see this thing sort
- 1:06:55Speaker 9: of play out, you're trying to keep an eye on
- 1:06:58Speaker 9: the player.

- 1:07:27Speaker 1: The leaf peepers, oh oh, people coming to look at
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: the folio.
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: You don't know what leaf peepers or leaf pepers before.
- 1:07:33Speaker 4: You never heard that. No people that come in to
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: look at the season change.
- 1:07:37Speaker 6: The people do that.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, the foliage.
- 1:07:42Speaker 6: Yep, up north, you gotta go out.
- 1:07:44Speaker 8: I guess maybe we're just we grew up here, so
- 1:07:46Speaker 8: it's just you're just used to be.
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: You didn't miss it when you lived in California.
- 1:07:49Speaker 6: I missed.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: I missed this, the fall, the changing the season. I
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: think it was more of the weather though. It's just
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: the weather's here.
- 1:07:54Speaker 8: It's any sort of cold.
- 1:07:57Speaker 4: There wasn't anything, you know, the falling of the palms
- 1:08:00Speaker 4: or anything.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: You know. Now, well, yeah, I think once you live
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: in California for a while, you kind of start to
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: recognize the season's changing changing. But it's a little bit,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: you know, like it's rainy for a couple of weeks
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: that was winter.
- 1:08:09Speaker 8: You know, like that's it. It's more subtle.
- 1:08:12Speaker 4: Yes, yeah, I'll take New England.
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: Summer though, Like September October and California we're just so hot.
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: So like usually here it breaks right around this time.
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: It starts to get crisp there. It's like you're just
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: getting started in September and October are every bit as
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: hot as as the summer is.
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: Yeah, all right, uh eight five five past five hundred
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: is the ACE ticket hotline. Web radio at Patriots dot
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: com is the email address. So team will be heading
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: out to Nashville on Thursday this week and for the
- 1:08:42Speaker 4: game on Friday. So we're back to normal when it
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: comes to travel, you know, yeah, for now, Yeah, for now,
- 1:08:51Speaker 4: let's see, let's get to some of these emails Stanley, Right, San,
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: he says, thank you Evan for mentioning Farms in your
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: article cool today. I thought I was the only one
- 1:09:01Speaker 4: who thought he had been doing some good work in
- 1:09:03Speaker 4: the trenches. Don't know if he'll make the team, but
- 1:09:06Speaker 4: it might be time to move on from guy.
- 1:09:09Speaker 8: Yeah, it was an honorable mention in my dark horse candidates.
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: Yeah, he he showed up. He's been showing up. He
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: shot up in both games, and I remember last year
- 1:09:18Speaker 4: in the last preseason game in Vegas, he showed up.
- 1:09:21Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, yeah, I think he's got a run defense.
- 1:09:24Speaker 8: Obviously he's going to be a first down player, but
- 1:09:26Speaker 8: he's a he's a tough guy to move stat dude.
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: Maybe can play offensive line.
- 1:09:31Speaker 6: So just an interesting kind of point because of Farms
- 1:09:35Speaker 6: also was in this situation. I thought it was yesterday's
- 1:09:39Speaker 6: press conference. I think Bob Sosie asked him about the
- 1:09:42Speaker 6: spring leagues, the USFL and the XFL. I thought that
- 1:09:45Speaker 6: was interesting because the Patriots just signed three different guys CG. Marrable,
- 1:09:51Speaker 6: Micah Micah Vanderpool they both were in the USFL, and
- 1:09:55Speaker 6: then Carson Wells was in the XFL. And Bob asked
- 1:09:59Speaker 6: him if there were any things about those spring leagues
- 1:10:02Speaker 6: that they've seen, and Bill basically said, well, yeah, because
- 1:10:06Speaker 6: they've played in a lot of times. Those guys are
- 1:10:09Speaker 6: in better playing shape and football shape as opposed to
- 1:10:14Speaker 6: a guy who and he was pretty realistic about he goes, look,
- 1:10:17Speaker 6: you know, you're dealing with a level of player here
- 1:10:20Speaker 6: that is scrapping and fighting to get into the league.
- 1:10:24Speaker 6: So that could be the difference between signing a guy
- 1:10:27Speaker 6: like Marabell and a guy who was just on the
- 1:10:30Speaker 6: street right now as a rookie or first year player
- 1:10:32Speaker 6: looking for a job. Yeah, you know, the fact that
- 1:10:34Speaker 6: he had played in the spring might give him a
- 1:10:36Speaker 6: leg up. Maybe the techniques and Farms was in that
- 1:10:39Speaker 6: situation last year. I think last year. Yeah, right. Yeah,
- 1:10:43Speaker 6: he was a guy who played in the spring last year,
- 1:10:45Speaker 6: and Bill brought him up as an example. He's still around,
- 1:10:49Speaker 6: you know in that regard. That was interesting the way
- 1:10:52Speaker 6: he explained that I wasn't. He seemed to really clamp
- 1:10:55Speaker 6: onto that one. Yeah, like that one.
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: We were talking about wearing the padded helmets in regular
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: season game Sames Jacket and Aba says the problem of
- 1:11:02Speaker 4: soft helmets and game action is that the soft material
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: has greater friction than the hard plastic. Consequently, the drag
- 1:11:10Speaker 4: from the friction in the speed of game action would
- 1:11:12Speaker 4: threaten to cause neck injuries by extending and stretching the
- 1:11:16Speaker 4: time interval of contact. A concussion, as bad as it
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: as it is, is not as dangerous as a bad
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: neck injury that could result in paralysis.
- 1:11:25Speaker 6: We weren't suggesting Fred, I know you brought this up originally.
- 1:11:27Speaker 6: We weren't suggesting wearing those caps. We were wondering if
- 1:11:30Speaker 6: you could get an outer layer plastic shell the way
- 1:11:34Speaker 6: the guy from Buffalo.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: I remember a kid in my high school team were
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: one of those, and that was kind of sticky too.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: So that's an interesting email for that. Well, that's why
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: you can't I would stick a little bit.
- 1:11:43Speaker 6: I totally agree with Jack, that would cause neck problems
- 1:11:46Speaker 6: wearing those on a regular basis at.
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: Yeah, and they looked them.
- 1:11:52Speaker 4: Jack also says, next time you're in green Bay, suggests
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: you Dinah Gabes Wisconsin Kitchen and tavern in Oshkrosh.
- 1:11:58Speaker 6: I like the tavern part.
- 1:12:00Speaker 8: It's just wis you would love green Bay?
- 1:12:02Speaker 6: Then, No, I've actually been.
- 1:12:05Speaker 4: But where we stayed in Green Bay we didn't stay
- 1:12:09Speaker 4: Usually we stay in Apple Appleton, and this was in
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: Green Bay. And like you throw a rock and you'd
- 1:12:14Speaker 4: hit one of those sports Barshe there was Title Town.
- 1:12:18Speaker 8: That's all that you could hit.
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: Yeah, there was Copper Town.
- 1:12:22Speaker 6: None of them.
- 1:12:24Speaker 4: They were all the same, all the same menu.
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: Did you see the Donald drivers statue? Fred were surprised
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: that Donald Driver got a statue in we won.
- 1:12:30Speaker 6: A Super Bowl.
- 1:12:32Speaker 4: Yeah, that's all it takes.
- 1:12:35Speaker 6: That's weak. It's not near the stadium. We're going to
- 1:12:38Speaker 6: go by David David given.
- 1:12:39Speaker 4: It's literally you could walk to it from our hotel.
- 1:12:42Speaker 8: I understand that that the Packers have a great history
- 1:12:46Speaker 8: and a great history and a great fan base and location,
- 1:12:49Speaker 8: but nobody rests on their laurels like the Green Bay Packers.
- 1:12:52Speaker 8: Oh yeah, Oh my god, that place is just filled
- 1:12:56Speaker 8: with title town mentions. And I remember when we won
- 1:13:00Speaker 8: the nineteen sixty NFL Championship and like all this stuff,
- 1:13:05Speaker 8: and I'm just like, well, that's I mean, like it
- 1:13:07Speaker 8: was striking to me because you know, Patriots fans have
- 1:13:10Speaker 8: had a great twenty years, but that's you've had twenty
- 1:13:12Speaker 8: years that you know, had.
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: Kind of one dynasty, right like and even if you
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: want to say it was a little bit of two
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: parts because it was long, but you know, they've really
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: had like three or four. So it's like they've kind
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: of had this going since like you said, like the
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: fifty sixties, like you know what I mean, Like like
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: it's just I subperation after like happy before it comes in.
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: Like I I say this as a diehard Celtics fan.
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: It make it reminds me a little bit of the
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: Celtics where it's like you really haven't won anything in
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: fifteen years, and then before that you hadn't won anything
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: in another twenty years.
- 1:13:42Speaker 8: Right, So I think it's funny.
- 1:13:44Speaker 6: I think it's funny, Okay, watching myself, Sorry go where
- 1:13:49Speaker 6: did Mac go? I don't know who that's we won't
- 1:13:52Speaker 6: go that tight.
- 1:13:53Speaker 4: Uh what back?
- 1:13:54Speaker 6: Pullet back, pull it back.
- 1:13:55Speaker 8: We're sitting in the same chair.
- 1:13:56Speaker 4: Tim writes in quick question. It might be a stupid one,
- 1:13:59Speaker 4: but any chants we should maybe go after via the
- 1:14:02Speaker 4: defensive tackle from Tampa Bay, I feel like with Baker
- 1:14:05Speaker 4: Mayfield now is just starting quarterback, Tampa is about to
- 1:14:08Speaker 4: go down the drain.
- 1:14:10Speaker 6: So let's get rid of our good players that he's
- 1:14:13Speaker 6: really good.
- 1:14:14Speaker 4: Talk about stowing.
- 1:14:15Speaker 8: Not available, not available. We haven't even talked about the
- 1:14:19Speaker 8: offense or her mac first hour in the show.
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: I appreciate that, Josh says, longtime listener love the show.
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: Evan has been a spectacular edition.
- 1:14:29Speaker 6: Spectacular splashing of the Packers is top not I just
- 1:14:34Speaker 6: wanted to ask if you know whether Tom Brady Day
- 1:14:37Speaker 6: will be televised or live stream.
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: I doubt I'll be able to make it up, but
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: would love to see the tribute. We are going to
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: stream the halftime, yeah, live so, but we don't know
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: what it is. We don't know what it is, but
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: it'll be on Patriots dot com.
- 1:14:52Speaker 6: So is that it's probably an off air thing like
- 1:14:56Speaker 6: in the weeds, like that's allowed, Like I have.
- 1:14:59Speaker 4: To get special permission to do that, which I did, But.
- 1:15:02Speaker 6: It wasn't as dumb at question as I thought it was.
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: Tom Brady, come on, yeah, halftime, Sure, let's see Steve
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: from Rancho Cucamonga. Would less than three weeks away start
- 1:15:17Speaker 4: to countdown any status update on Thornton? Is it significant
- 1:15:21Speaker 4: enough to impact the spot on the roster? Will this
- 1:15:23Speaker 4: injury possibly drive Bill to keep six receivers on the
- 1:15:26Speaker 4: roster with the emergence of Douglas and Boudet. We talked
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: about that at the beginning of the show, and most
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: everybody says they probably will be six receivers on the
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: He's on the roster, I mean late Cunningham won't be
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: one of them.
- 1:15:38Speaker 6: I don't think you will be. I like someone asked
- 1:15:42Speaker 6: in the mail bag today, I want to keep Booty
- 1:15:45Speaker 6: and Cunningham, but I don't see how.
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: They gave him a couple opportunities in this game and
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: he didn't farewell over five.
- 1:15:50Speaker 8: Yeah, well, he's not a receiver, Yeah right, I just
- 1:15:54Speaker 8: can we stop the ruse with him playing receiver? Please?
- 1:15:56Speaker 6: But I think what Bill's trying to do is say
- 1:15:59Speaker 6: I can use them as a backup receiver. I can
- 1:16:03Speaker 6: see if I can get a role for him on
- 1:16:04Speaker 6: special teams, and if I can substantiate the roster spot
- 1:16:08Speaker 6: that way, then I can always do this thing. But
- 1:16:12Speaker 6: I'm more interested in just trying to develop him as
- 1:16:14Speaker 6: a quarterback if anything's there.
- 1:16:16Speaker 4: Yeah, I've had a lot of emails about the show
- 1:16:18Speaker 4: within a show, mixed reviews.
- 1:16:21Speaker 6: I would agree with Matt.
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: Where are we with that? What's what's what's the status
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: of show within a show?
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: We got another one coming up Thursday. People will be
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: getting T shirts given away, so listening so it's going
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: to be live, will not be live. What's gonna happen
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: is Matisa is gonna record it Thursday morning and then
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: put people can email in when they listen and give
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: the answers, and if they get the correct answers, I'll
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: email them send them the shirts.
- 1:16:42Speaker 4: Okay, So but they can't email in now, right, So
- 1:16:45Speaker 4: it'll be time. So the email has to come in
- 1:16:48Speaker 4: within the time that the show within a show is
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: being broadcast, correct, right, So don't try to gain Yeah,
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: don't try to gain the system and start emailing for
- 1:16:57Speaker 4: your T shirt now.
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I know a bunch you did last week sending
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: addresses and y'all got T shirts. What about the subject matter? Uh,
- 1:17:06Speaker 3: it can be random. This Thursday will be more football.
- 1:17:08Speaker 6: Why don't you give them some topics for I think
- 1:17:10Speaker 6: I know one.
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: I think I know what it is. I don't know
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: if I can if I should reveal it, Matt.
- 1:17:13Speaker 6: I should not reveal it. That'd be a surprise, all right.
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: Yeah, show within a show.
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: It's football.
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: Yeah. Some people liked it, some people didn't like it.
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: Yeah, and were thirty five enjoyed it.
- 1:17:27Speaker 6: I was just gonna Those that didn't like it evidently
- 1:17:29Speaker 6: were referred to as olds. I did not listen to it,
- 1:17:31Speaker 6: so I can't give you a judging from the email
- 1:17:33Speaker 6: the olds didn't like it.
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: I think it was a mix. I don't think you
- 1:17:36Speaker 4: can paint with a broad brush on who liked it.
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: And we gotta like, you gotta go to the ratings
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: and see what could you see? Like did it hold
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: us like like our traffic? Did it hold our lead listeners?
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: Did listeners tune out? How many listeners did it lose?
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: How many listeners came back when we came back?
- 1:17:50Speaker 8: You know, let's get the Nielsen get down.
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: In the Nielsen ratings here, what do they call them audio.
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: Is it something else?
- 1:17:55Speaker 6: Maybe the ratings, let's call it Nielsen.
- 1:17:59Speaker 4: Just the at you look at you look at the
- 1:18:01Speaker 4: stream bank effect, you look at the stream band. How
- 1:18:04Speaker 4: many concurrent users are on the show at any given time,
- 1:18:09Speaker 4: you know, let's see Alex right in he's in Raleigh.
- 1:18:14Speaker 4: Wanted to point out a funny observation. The Patriots posted
- 1:18:17Speaker 4: the video of Bill talking about Taylor Swift and his
- 1:18:20Speaker 4: side profile with the headphones on. Looks like Fred, it
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: was a wild photo and leads me to a question,
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: freddie in Belichick long lost siblings. Well, you know we
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: both have that that Eastern European blood, so that could be,
- 1:18:34Speaker 4: you know, part of it.
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: But you know, he was sitting in your chair, though,
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: I think I think Old.
- 1:18:38Speaker 4: And Krusty would be the the resemblance chair.
- 1:18:44Speaker 6: I think so. I think no, Matt saying in Fred's chair.
- 1:18:48Speaker 4: On to the Patriots. I saw from Mike Reese that
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: Mapu may play some against the Titans. But has there
- 1:18:54Speaker 4: been anything from his limited participation in practice that can
- 1:18:57Speaker 4: lead the crew to believe that he'll be an exciting
- 1:18:59Speaker 4: prospect this season? Or does seeing him in an actual
- 1:19:02Speaker 4: game against another NFL team have to happen first.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean he did light up Tucker Craft, and
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: I think Tucker Craft got hurt. I heard it, heard
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: the reaction had like Carl Davis standing in front of
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: me at the precise place where it hit.
- 1:19:15Speaker 6: But the next time you guys go to joint practices
- 1:19:18Speaker 6: and you take the offense, and can you get someone
- 1:19:20Speaker 6: else to take the defense, might be able to see
- 1:19:22Speaker 6: what happens anything. I haven't told me everything that happened
- 1:19:26Speaker 6: on offense. It was hard to tell with the Left.
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: Guard album on that on that second rep that the
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: Left Guard, I mean he blew his blocking.
- 1:19:33Speaker 6: Those those those practices are overwhelming. Everything is happening so fast.
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: With the music, like because we've been joint practices and
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: I just have never been where it's like you're at
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: a It was like it was a college concert. Like
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: it felt like I was at a college party with
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: like a DJ like that kind of playlist, like.
- 1:19:48Speaker 6: Just Fred n Fred and I were joking, and it
- 1:19:52Speaker 6: was legitimately joking because I know I've covered a million
- 1:19:55Speaker 6: of those. They're really hard to track everything. You could
- 1:19:59Speaker 6: have found anything you wanted off of the Wednesday practice
- 1:20:02Speaker 6: if you just read enough different people's summations of Wednesday's practice,
- 1:20:05Speaker 6: you could have found that the Patriots won the Super
- 1:20:07Speaker 6: Bowl or are they going to get relegated to the
- 1:20:09Speaker 6: D League? You know, in anything in between.
- 1:20:12Speaker 8: Thursday was a little more line than you would have
- 1:20:14Speaker 8: been right.
- 1:20:15Speaker 6: Thursday was a little more universal. Everybody felt the Patriots
- 1:20:17Speaker 6: played well on Thursday. Wednesday. I think most people felt
- 1:20:20Speaker 6: green Bay played well. Yeah, but like I said, it
- 1:20:23Speaker 6: was all over the map.
- 1:20:24Speaker 4: It would seen that real time, you know, anywhere from
- 1:20:27Speaker 4: two hours and twenty minutes.
- 1:20:28Speaker 6: Over the hours it we got the official time on
- 1:20:30Speaker 6: our We actually asked the Pete Dougherty, I think from
- 1:20:35Speaker 6: the Green Bay Press Gazette. Nice, look at me, give
- 1:20:40Speaker 6: me and my bigthing. That give me and my big
- 1:20:42Speaker 6: Green Bay Press Gazette two hours and twenty seven minutes.
- 1:20:45Speaker 6: He had a clock down too, which is exactly what
- 1:20:47Speaker 6: Mike Reese.
- 1:20:48Speaker 8: It's okay, place stuck in nineteen sixty.
- 1:20:51Speaker 6: Yes, yes, but.
- 1:20:54Speaker 8: Yeah, I thought day one, green Bay landed the Haymaker.
- 1:21:00Speaker 8: I wouldn't necessarily say that they they were so much
- 1:21:04Speaker 8: better than the Patriots, but they made the big plays.
- 1:21:07Speaker 8: Christian Watson obviously catching the big touchdown was was the
- 1:21:10Speaker 8: highlight of the week for Green Bay. But I felt
- 1:21:13Speaker 8: like on Day two the Patriots really controlled play from
- 1:21:17Speaker 8: from most of the practice on both sides of the football.
- 1:21:19Speaker 8: So I don't know, I'm not I don't really like
- 1:21:22Speaker 8: I hate that question, like who won the day?
- 1:21:24Speaker 6: Yeah, it's like I don't know, I just you know,
- 1:21:28Speaker 6: like the summations of the practices vary greatly from individual person,
- 1:21:33Speaker 6: and that's like I joke around about it, but that's why,
- 1:21:37Speaker 6: because it's hard to see everything, and you know, like
- 1:21:40Speaker 6: someone who felt like the Patriots were better on Wednesday
- 1:21:43Speaker 6: may have missed like two of the quote unquote Haymakers
- 1:21:46Speaker 6: that Evan's talking about that green Bay had, Yeah, do
- 1:21:49Speaker 6: you know what I mean? And then conversely, on Thursday,
- 1:21:51Speaker 6: you might have thought it was better because you just
- 1:21:54Speaker 6: heard that well green Bay had a couple of touchdowns,
- 1:21:56Speaker 6: not realizing that one of them like deflected off of
- 1:21:59Speaker 6: Patriots defense to back right to a guy at the
- 1:22:01Speaker 6: edge like that dis about it. But you know what,
- 1:22:04Speaker 6: but you know what I mean, Like if you missed
- 1:22:06Speaker 6: certain plays or missing context of certain plays, you can
- 1:22:10Speaker 6: have a drastically different.
- 1:22:12Speaker 8: Or you could just be wrong.
- 1:22:13Speaker 6: Well, yeah, that too. We'll get to that off.
- 1:22:16Speaker 4: Here because you know whoever, let's just get off the
- 1:22:18Speaker 4: Patriots for a second and go into NFL stuff. What's
- 1:22:22Speaker 4: this whole thing with Stephen A. Smith saying he has
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: definitive sources that says that, uh, Stefan Diggs is not
- 1:22:31Speaker 4: happy in Buffalo, And I know Stefan Diggs has said
- 1:22:34Speaker 4: that's not true.
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: Well, he's a liar.
- 1:22:38Speaker 8: Who's a liar trying to make just kidding.
- 1:22:42Speaker 6: I mean, I know that Diggs is unhappy, but I
- 1:22:45Speaker 6: have not heard anything about steven A. Smith.
- 1:22:48Speaker 8: The only thing that Stefan Diggs has openly said that
- 1:22:51Speaker 8: he's unhappy with is that he doesn't necessarily feel like
- 1:22:54Speaker 8: the urgency in the building is matching the talent that
- 1:22:59Speaker 8: they have in the building. You know, I think he
- 1:23:01Speaker 8: feels like we should be winning the Super Bowl, like,
- 1:23:05Speaker 8: if not last year, definitely this year. And I don't
- 1:23:08Speaker 8: think he feels that.
- 1:23:09Speaker 4: According to Steven A and he claims that he has
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: solid sources.
- 1:23:13Speaker 8: I'm sure he does.
- 1:23:14Speaker 4: That Diggs is feels that they've missed the window and
- 1:23:18Speaker 4: that he wants to get out.
- 1:23:20Speaker 6: Wow, Okay, I have not heard. I have not heard
- 1:23:24Speaker 6: Steven A. Smith, But good for him. The stuff around Diggs,
- 1:23:27Speaker 6: I've heard like, there's definitely been some.
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: Diggs has since tweeted one hundred percent not true.
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: I don't know who the source is, but I thought
- 1:23:35Speaker 3: I nipped this s in the butt already.
- 1:23:38Speaker 8: I'm not surprised that he did that. Yeah, he has to, right,
- 1:23:41Speaker 8: he's going to be there. I mean, that's going to
- 1:23:42Speaker 8: be there this year. So yeah, like he has thirty
- 1:23:45Speaker 8: million dollars of dead money if he's cut or traded,
- 1:23:48Speaker 8: so he's not going anywhere. Like he's going to be
- 1:23:51Speaker 8: a bill.
- 1:23:52Speaker 4: Jonathan Taylor looks like he's asking to be traded. And
- 1:23:57Speaker 4: I heard Miami is interested as a expressed interest.
- 1:24:01Speaker 6: Yeah, I heard Miami. I heard, uh, possibly Dallas heard
- 1:24:06Speaker 6: some some of those teams. I don't know where he'll
- 1:24:09Speaker 6: end up, but it certainly sounds like he's gonna end
- 1:24:11Speaker 6: up somewhere, Yeah, other than Indy, but a bizarre Thats
- 1:24:13Speaker 6: so bizarre.
- 1:24:14Speaker 8: So he's they don't want to pay him market value,
- 1:24:17Speaker 8: but they're expecting a team to trade a first round
- 1:24:20Speaker 8: pick and pay him market value, but they don't see
- 1:24:23Speaker 8: him being worth it. So I just don't understand where
- 1:24:27Speaker 8: the logic is that they think that they're gonna get
- 1:24:29Speaker 8: anything in the trade, not to mention that like him
- 1:24:32Speaker 8: and Anthony Richardson in the backfield together actually gives Anthony
- 1:24:35Speaker 8: Richardson a chance as a rookie to be decent. So
- 1:24:38Speaker 8: I just I don't really understand.
- 1:24:40Speaker 6: Like you would think that Indy would step and step
- 1:24:42Speaker 6: forward and say, look, here's a couple extra million. We
- 1:24:45Speaker 6: need you, we need you with this kid to help
- 1:24:49Speaker 6: him out. And then I assume this is the last
- 1:24:51Speaker 6: year of the deal probably so you know, then if
- 1:24:55Speaker 6: you know you're gonna be a free agent, if we
- 1:24:56Speaker 6: can't come to a country, you know, we won't franchise
- 1:25:00Speaker 6: you have to Yeah, I would say, well, well, we'll
- 1:25:03Speaker 6: grant you a trade after the season's over, but we
- 1:25:07Speaker 6: you know we can give you. Well, wet your beak
- 1:25:09Speaker 6: a little bit right now. You got to help the kid.
- 1:25:11Speaker 6: Give the kid the best chance that he can he
- 1:25:13Speaker 6: can have, uh to succeed.
- 1:25:16Speaker 8: The only argument was last year. The only argument is
- 1:25:20Speaker 8: that they don't want to win. That that that's that's
- 1:25:23Speaker 8: the only why would you not want to win? Like
- 1:25:26Speaker 8: and I understand it's it's I understand the question you're asking.
- 1:25:28Speaker 6: I'm not saying, but like you just drafted a quarterback
- 1:25:31Speaker 6: with the fourth overall pick.
- 1:25:32Speaker 4: Well, there was another report some guy that covers the
- 1:25:36Speaker 4: Colts and I this is the stupidest thing I've ever heard,
- 1:25:38Speaker 4: says they're going to tank. And the questions asked him
- 1:25:42Speaker 4: was why because they want to get Marvin Harrison Junior.
- 1:25:46Speaker 6: It's like, really, they don't have to tank to do that. Yeah, no,
- 1:25:53Speaker 6: is he gonna go number one overall?
- 1:25:54Speaker 8: Number two?
- 1:25:55Speaker 6: Okay, so they very much they could play as hard
- 1:25:57Speaker 6: as they want to and possibly get the second. Like
- 1:26:01Speaker 6: that's not a good team.
- 1:26:02Speaker 8: Yeah, no, it's possible.
- 1:26:03Speaker 4: But I gotta say, lose our game. I don't care
- 1:26:06Speaker 4: what they do.
- 1:26:06Speaker 6: Like, the Colts are not gonna win a lot of
- 1:26:08Speaker 6: games with a kid who played one year of college
- 1:26:11Speaker 6: football and was considered one of the most raw prospects
- 1:26:15Speaker 6: coming out. I think he has talent, no question. But
- 1:26:18Speaker 6: you think they're gonna win more than four games? I
- 1:26:22Speaker 6: can't see that.
- 1:26:24Speaker 8: So there's maybe a scenario where Marvin Harrison Junior goes three,
- 1:26:28Speaker 8: if Drake may from UNC has a good.
- 1:26:30Speaker 6: Four wins get you in the top three. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:26:33Speaker 6: no one's gonna I mean I shouldn't say no, one.
- 1:26:35Speaker 6: It's happened before, but like, yeah, I don't expect someone
- 1:26:37Speaker 6: going like one in sixteen or oer for like Cleveland
- 1:26:41Speaker 6: did and Detroit did in the past. Yeah, every I mean,
- 1:26:46Speaker 6: what was it last year? Like three three wins was
- 1:26:48Speaker 6: the number one pick? Right the Bears? Right, I think
- 1:26:53Speaker 6: three wins was the number one pick. Yeah, so they're
- 1:26:56Speaker 6: not gonna win many that. I can't see them winning
- 1:26:58Speaker 6: more than five.
- 1:26:58Speaker 8: Yeah, it's also fair to want Marvin Harrison Junior.
- 1:27:01Speaker 6: No anyone watched the is that worth tanking for? By
- 1:27:06Speaker 6: the way, a wide receiver?
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: I mean, but they have like a personal he's he's
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: generation all the wrong.
- 1:27:15Speaker 8: You throw that word around a lot, like like too
- 1:27:17Speaker 8: easy sometimes, But Marvin Harrison Junior is a generational wide
- 1:27:20Speaker 8: receiver prospect.
- 1:27:22Speaker 4: So best wide receiver prospects since Megatron?
- 1:27:26Speaker 8: Wow, sint Calvin?
- 1:27:27Speaker 4: Yeah, Wow, that's that's saying a lot.
- 1:27:30Speaker 8: I mean, he can run, he can get open at
- 1:27:33Speaker 8: the top of the route. He's like six ' three,
- 1:27:35Speaker 8: he would imagine like Marvin Harrison, but bigger and faster
- 1:27:38Speaker 8: and faster.
- 1:27:39Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:27:39Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, he's every bit as good as you think.
- 1:27:43Speaker 4: M okay uh that's what I heard and has anyone
- 1:27:47Speaker 4: seen the last episode of Hard Knocks.
- 1:27:51Speaker 6: No, the only one watching Hard Knocks.
- 1:27:53Speaker 4: I only saw the first episode.
- 1:27:54Speaker 6: How was it.
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: I haven't really heard anything.
- 1:27:56Speaker 4: There's been no buzz We talked about it extensive on
- 1:27:59Speaker 4: this show. There's been no buzzah, not.
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: Even any like I haven't seen any good like Twitter.
- 1:28:05Speaker 6: But they didn't. I mean there was no way they couldn't.
- 1:28:08Speaker 6: They weren't with them until like camp started, Like so
- 1:28:11Speaker 6: even there's no background, there's nothing.
- 1:28:14Speaker 4: Yeah. All I know is that their close. Their coaches
- 1:28:17Speaker 4: are too roller coastery up and down. Yeah.
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: I mean I did see one clip of Salah laying them,
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: laying them out about the offensive line and like changing
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: the culture with the offense. I thought was fine. But
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: it's that stuff.
- 1:28:29Speaker 8: It's performative.
- 1:28:30Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, that's the well the defensive coordinator is the
- 1:28:33Speaker 6: definition of that.
- 1:28:35Speaker 4: Uh Claire, Hello everyone, She says, I love you guys,
- 1:28:40Speaker 4: I do. But two tight ends with Gaseki nursing an injury,
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: very audible gas here talking about our project.
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think it's it's about the players.
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: I think it's just like kind of the economics of
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: the roster and do you feel like you could get
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: I almost called them Mount Lacosse right there. Do you
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: think you could, you know, get Ferkser and those guys
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: And what's this face? Socle through the practice probably like
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: like I'm really too worried about it.
- 1:29:05Speaker 8: Nobody's knocking down the door for Matt.
- 1:29:07Speaker 4: So yeah, And.
- 1:29:08Speaker 6: The situation there is, like I understand you need to
- 1:29:12Speaker 6: have a certain amount of players at positions, but if
- 1:29:15Speaker 6: you think Booty is a much better player than Socol,
- 1:29:19Speaker 6: that to me has to be a decision maker, you know.
- 1:29:22Speaker 6: Now if it's close and we have depth at this
- 1:29:25Speaker 6: spot and none at this spot. Now, I don't think
- 1:29:27Speaker 6: they have great depth. I think they have a lot
- 1:29:29Speaker 6: of similar players at wide receivers. So if you want
- 1:29:33Speaker 6: to take six and then figure out which three are
- 1:29:35Speaker 6: going to emerge as you know, consistent playmakers, and then
- 1:29:38Speaker 6: you play with your roster after that, it might be
- 1:29:40Speaker 6: a lot easier to get somebody to the practice squad
- 1:29:44Speaker 6: in the middle of the year too, you know, like
- 1:29:46Speaker 6: right now everybody's looking at everybody, you have a chance
- 1:29:49Speaker 6: to work, you know. It's in other words, if the
- 1:29:51Speaker 6: Patriots cut Booty, now you might say, well this, you know,
- 1:29:56Speaker 6: I don't know fifteen hundred players that are going to
- 1:29:58Speaker 6: be cut. Yeah, right, so that makes it easier. But
- 1:30:02Speaker 6: other teams look at it and say, I had my
- 1:30:04Speaker 6: eye on him. Now I can get him at the
- 1:30:06Speaker 6: start of the season to work with him the whole year,
- 1:30:08Speaker 6: as opposed to like in week four, if Taekwon Thornton
- 1:30:12Speaker 6: comes off ir and you want to try to cut Booty,
- 1:30:15Speaker 6: you might have a shot. Like they might say, well,
- 1:30:17Speaker 6: we're already into it now, I don't want to invest
- 1:30:19Speaker 6: the time into him. And then if you claim him
- 1:30:21Speaker 6: at that time, he has to come on your roster.
- 1:30:24Speaker 6: You know, at the beginning of the year, you might say,
- 1:30:26Speaker 6: let's see what what do he have? Patriots have done
- 1:30:28Speaker 6: that many times. They've claimed a lot of players off
- 1:30:30Speaker 6: waivers at that time of year over the years, and
- 1:30:33Speaker 6: most of those guys don't end up sticking around.
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: Yeah. One more thought I wanted to share too. On
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: the film. I've just reminded that Hunter Henry is just
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: not a great blocker, and I think it's something they
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: got to work around, and it's it's just something I
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: think it's something they have to work around on offense.
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: Like I think it's it's it's an issue I I
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: you know, I just found myself kind of still longing
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: for Can we just get back to a tight end
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: who maybe you know, brings a little bit more juice
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: than that.
- 1:30:58Speaker 8: Can we just get we just really need nineteen seventy
- 1:31:00Speaker 8: five to come back. I guess that's what we're saying.
- 1:31:03Speaker 8: I'm just kidding.
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: Well, but no, And like I look, I like KASICKI
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: is what he is.
- 1:31:07Speaker 11: Like.
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: I just I just don't like tight ends that are
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: stuck in the middle. And he's not really giving you
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: a plus in the passing game. He's not really giving
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: you a plus in the in the running game. He's
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: just kind of okay at both, maybe a little bit
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: subpar at blocking.
- 1:31:18Speaker 6: And you know, just there's times.
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: Where it feels like they're gonna they're gonna get a
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: bunch of plays blown up this year because he can't.
- 1:31:23Speaker 6: He can't.
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: They don't.
- 1:31:23Speaker 6: Yeah, they don't have a blocking tight end because I
- 1:31:26Speaker 6: think that's safe to say.
- 1:31:28Speaker 8: But I don't think that's a major concern for Bill O'Brien.
- 1:31:32Speaker 8: I think he won if it was up It's not
- 1:31:33Speaker 8: for me. If it was up to Billy. Oh, I
- 1:31:35Speaker 8: think you're throwing the ball sixty sixty five percent of
- 1:31:38Speaker 8: the time anyways, But I think Hunter Henry's better than
- 1:31:41Speaker 8: an Okay receiver. I think that's being a little bit harsh.
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: Okay, I think he's a little better than Okay.
- 1:31:47Speaker 8: Yeah, I think he's a pretty good receiving tight.
- 1:31:49Speaker 4: Enda Kenny says, I live in Nashville with season tickets
- 1:31:53Speaker 4: for the Titans, but I was born and raised in Boston,
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: so I'm a die hod New England fan. When I
- 1:31:57Speaker 4: saw the Patriots were playing in Nashville, pre I was
- 1:32:00Speaker 4: so excited to see my team. I haven't seen play
- 1:32:03Speaker 4: in person since twenty twelve, where Tim Tebow and the
- 1:32:06Speaker 4: Broncos got crushed by our boys forty five to ten. Obviously,
- 1:32:09Speaker 4: things have changed in the last week with the Isaiah
- 1:32:11Speaker 4: Bolden situation. Is it selfish of me to say I
- 1:32:15Speaker 4: want to see our starter is playing on Friday night?
- 1:32:17Speaker 4: So my question is, do you guys think the Patriots
- 1:32:19Speaker 4: play this start is to start the game like our
- 1:32:22Speaker 4: last few, or even not play the game.
- 1:32:25Speaker 8: I think they'll play, Yeah, I think they'll play any
- 1:32:27Speaker 8: also without the.
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: Joints, yeah, I think the will as well. He also
- 1:32:31Speaker 4: wants to know, do you think that there'll be an
- 1:32:32Speaker 4: effort to, you know, make sure that Hopkins doesn't do
- 1:32:36Speaker 4: anything to you.
- 1:32:38Speaker 6: Know, No, No, I have a I don't think is
- 1:32:41Speaker 6: going to play much. Take them out before the game
- 1:32:43Speaker 6: or something else.
- 1:32:43Speaker 8: I have two questions for the panel, both about the offense,
- 1:32:47Speaker 8: because we haven't really talked much about the offense. At
- 1:32:49Speaker 8: number one, do you guys find it odd that tomorrow
- 1:32:52Speaker 8: Douglas is it not playing?
- 1:32:54Speaker 6: Yes?
- 1:32:55Speaker 8: Yeah, because if you think he's good, then you're not
- 1:32:58Speaker 8: cutting him. So they're literally hiding him for like, because
- 1:33:02Speaker 8: they don't want to show how great this six round piches.
- 1:33:04Speaker 6: I didn't imagine that as a rookie sixth round pick,
- 1:33:07Speaker 6: he can't benefit from more reps he's.
- 1:33:09Speaker 8: Got to play.
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: Do you have a pul could you read off of
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: your sheet there?
- 1:33:12Speaker 6: How many he played?
- 1:33:13Speaker 8: Three? How did he do three snaps three this week?
- 1:33:17Speaker 13: Ye?
- 1:33:19Speaker 6: Two?
- 1:33:19Speaker 8: So he ran two routes, two catches and he blocked
- 1:33:22Speaker 8: once for Kevin Harrison.
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: I mean it makes you think he's one hundred and
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: twenty catches this year because how did he do in
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: the joint though?
- 1:33:29Speaker 6: Good?
- 1:33:29Speaker 8: Yeah, But the problem that I see with him in
- 1:33:32Speaker 8: it right now is that he's catching a lot.
- 1:33:33Speaker 6: Of passes from Zappy in the joint. Yeah, and just
- 1:33:37Speaker 6: in practice. And that's what I meant, like, I can't
- 1:33:39Speaker 6: The short answer to your question is yes, I find
- 1:33:41Speaker 6: it odd. Yeah, I can't imagine that a young guy
- 1:33:45Speaker 6: wouldn't stand to benefit from more reps with Mac Jones.
- 1:33:49Speaker 6: Now they're only going to play fifteen somewhere between twelve
- 1:33:54Speaker 6: fifteen twenty Max snaps, So why wouldn't you have him
- 1:33:57Speaker 6: out there for at least half of them if you
- 1:33:59Speaker 6: think he's going to be of what you want to do?
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: Is it?
- 1:34:02Speaker 4: I mean subterfuge.
- 1:34:04Speaker 8: It's like the only the only argument is is that
- 1:34:07Speaker 8: he is so freaking good and they don't want to
- 1:34:09Speaker 8: show the rest of the league how good he is yet.
- 1:34:12Speaker 8: But I think he's good. I haven't seen. I haven't seen.
- 1:34:16Speaker 8: I'm not talking like you know a lot of people say, oh, well,
- 1:34:18Speaker 8: like Antonio Brown went late and ended up being Antonio
- 1:34:21Speaker 8: Brown and like stuff like that, and it's just like,
- 1:34:23Speaker 8: I don't know, I'm not necessarily seeing that. And also
- 1:34:27Speaker 8: took to Antonio Brown a couple of years until he
- 1:34:29Speaker 8: was really good.
- 1:34:29Speaker 4: He was just usage, like how they use him. We
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: don't want to put that on tape.
- 1:34:33Speaker 6: I don't know, it's bizarre, but that's fine. If you
- 1:34:36Speaker 6: don't want to throw him the ball, that's okay. Like
- 1:34:39Speaker 6: that I can get now. I still think that he
- 1:34:41Speaker 6: would benefit more from throwing him the ball, Like if
- 1:34:44Speaker 6: you think he's going to be a secret weapon, he'd
- 1:34:47Speaker 6: be a better secret weapon if he had more experience
- 1:34:50Speaker 6: catching the pass from.
- 1:34:50Speaker 4: And he's not secret anymore, but he'd.
- 1:34:52Speaker 6: Be better, is my point. Like, you cannot tell me
- 1:34:56Speaker 6: that he is so good that he doesn't need practice. Yeah,
- 1:35:00Speaker 6: it was Dad.
- 1:35:00Speaker 8: I can't because they even though it was was relative
- 1:35:05Speaker 8: like everything that they ran with mac on on Saturday
- 1:35:08Speaker 8: night was like Bill O'Brien day one install, like they
- 1:35:11Speaker 8: were running all of his like basic core concepts, but
- 1:35:14Speaker 8: it wasn't very watered down, Like it wasn't like they
- 1:35:17Speaker 8: weren't doing anything. I mean they ran three RPOs, they
- 1:35:20Speaker 8: ran two empty sets, they ran under center play action
- 1:35:23Speaker 8: like they were running plays like it wasn't, you know.
- 1:35:25Speaker 6: Completely like the postgame show we finally got one.
- 1:35:28Speaker 8: It wasn't like high school right, like they were in
- 1:35:30Speaker 8: high school like level scheme, like they were running some real,
- 1:35:33Speaker 8: real stuff. But to Mario Douglas can't play. Yeah, and
- 1:35:37Speaker 8: it's what did you can?
- 1:35:38Speaker 6: I ask you what your thoughts were on the third
- 1:35:41Speaker 6: down conversion that he caught. Looked like he looked like
- 1:35:44Speaker 6: he recognized zone, yes, and wisely stopped.
- 1:35:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:35:48Speaker 6: Now, I thought Max should have put the ball on him. Now,
- 1:35:52Speaker 6: you can't lead him because then that's a hospital ball, right,
- 1:35:55Speaker 6: But I don't necessarily like the fact that it was
- 1:35:57Speaker 6: behind him. Now, so do you think that was just
- 1:35:59Speaker 6: a good adjust by.
- 1:36:00Speaker 8: Both I think that Douglas should have sat it down more.
- 1:36:04Speaker 6: Okay, So.
- 1:36:07Speaker 8: That's called tulane. It's Bill O'Brien Day one playbook type
- 1:36:10Speaker 8: of stuff, and it's an option route. He has a
- 1:36:13Speaker 8: six yard option route, so it can break inside or
- 1:36:15Speaker 8: outside against maner can sit it against zone. I thought
- 1:36:18Speaker 8: he kind of kept running a little bit, all right,
- 1:36:20Speaker 8: and I think Mac thought that he was just gonna
- 1:36:22Speaker 8: sit right down, and he kept kind of continuing into
- 1:36:25Speaker 8: the middle of the field.
- 1:36:26Speaker 6: I liked that play, and that's kind of what I'm
- 1:36:28Speaker 6: talking about. You can't tell me he can't benefit from
- 1:36:32Speaker 6: the experience of that play, say, five times over these
- 1:36:36Speaker 6: three games, as opposed to once.
- 1:36:38Speaker 4: Right, it's weird.
- 1:36:39Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: Maybe he's just in the middle of they want to
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: get a look at the starters, and you know he's
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: gonna They know he's going to be the fourth or
- 1:36:45Speaker 1: fifth receiver, kind of as the slot, and you know,
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: when they're running their main stuff. We didn't really get
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: into the four or five, you know.
- 1:36:52Speaker 4: So they always say two guys for every position. Who's
- 1:36:55Speaker 4: the guy in front of him?
- 1:36:57Speaker 8: Juju, ju Ju or Kendrick Born?
- 1:36:59Speaker 4: Yeah or well, okay.
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: But I think that the top two are going to
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: be Parker and Juju. If there's two receivers out there,
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: those are the two guys, and then it goes from there.
- 1:37:07Speaker 4: I just I and you think our slot receiver is Juju.
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: Yeah, and then when third guy comes on, Juju's slide inside,
- 1:37:14Speaker 1: and when they need a fourth guy, it'll be it'll
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: be Douglas.
- 1:37:17Speaker 8: I'm not I'm a little concerned about Juju, not not
- 1:37:21Speaker 8: overly concerned.
- 1:37:22Speaker 4: But do we have a guy. Do we have a
- 1:37:25Speaker 4: guy that can move the sticks, the guy that when
- 1:37:28Speaker 4: you need four yards on third down or six yards,
- 1:37:32Speaker 4: like he's going to be dependable?
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: I don't know, Fred, I think you're you're hoping that
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: Bourne continues to look like he did the other night.
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: I think it's born and you're hoping that that Juju
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: is going to show more in terms of like breaking
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: tackles than you know, I I'm with I think most
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: people who have watched this have not been impressed with him,
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: you know, and.
- 1:37:47Speaker 8: It doesn't have it doesn't have a lot of burst,
- 1:37:49Speaker 8: not a lot of burst.
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: And you know, he's kind of big, he's a little stiff,
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: and I mean, I think his game, which we saw
- 1:37:53Speaker 1: maybe a little bit of is breaking tackles and taking
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: you know, but that's that done show up in practice
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: as much so. I but I think we're all kind
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: of a little bit, like a little bit apprehensive about
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: what he's gonna do.
- 1:38:04Speaker 6: I think one could be your guy Fred to replace
- 1:38:07Speaker 6: Myers as the volume guy, the guy who gets the
- 1:38:10Speaker 6: most targets.
- 1:38:11Speaker 8: Yeah, I would agree with that. I think if you
- 1:38:13Speaker 8: watch Mac, I think Hunter Henry on third down is
- 1:38:18Speaker 8: easily the guy that he trusts the most. He looks
- 1:38:21Speaker 8: at Hunter Henry a lot and in those types of situations.
- 1:38:23Speaker 8: And I'd also i'd throw Remandre in there too, like
- 1:38:26Speaker 8: if it's if down in distance calls for it, that
- 1:38:29Speaker 8: he can just work a linebacker with Ramandre, then I
- 1:38:32Speaker 8: think that that will be another guy that will move
- 1:38:34Speaker 8: the chains for them. But with Douglas, his quick twitch
- 1:38:39Speaker 8: and like his quickness is clearly the best out of
- 1:38:41Speaker 8: any of the receivers, and they just haven't had that
- 1:38:44Speaker 8: skill set since Edelman was here. And I think he's
- 1:38:48Speaker 8: gonna play a lot. I think that they're playing it
- 1:38:51Speaker 8: close to the vest. The one thing that they're trying
- 1:38:53Speaker 8: to keep under wraps is I think Douglas is going
- 1:38:56Speaker 8: to be your third receiver in your primary slock guy
- 1:39:00Speaker 8: in passing situation.
- 1:39:01Speaker 6: He could be replacing Juju.
- 1:39:03Speaker 8: You saying it's possible, I mean they're paying Juju.
- 1:39:06Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I don't have a good answer, so
- 1:39:08Speaker 6: I'm not I'm not here to shoot that down. I
- 1:39:11Speaker 6: I kind of tend to lean the other way that
- 1:39:13Speaker 6: they don't think he's quite ready, and then they're trying
- 1:39:17Speaker 6: to get the other three. But but I don't have
- 1:39:19Speaker 6: an argument for what Evan said, But looking.
- 1:39:21Speaker 4: At who we have as wide receiver, the only guy
- 1:39:24Speaker 4: who I see that can get open consistently on his own,
- 1:39:28Speaker 4: not scheming, but can just beat a guy one on
- 1:39:31Speaker 4: one with quickness is Douglas. Everyone else, I think they
- 1:39:36Speaker 4: get to separation.
- 1:39:38Speaker 6: Looks like I haven't seen Douglas do anything but run
- 1:39:41Speaker 6: five yard routes across the field, Like I need to see.
- 1:39:44Speaker 4: What if he can get open. That's great.
- 1:39:46Speaker 6: Yeah, no, it doesn't really do it a whole lot
- 1:39:48Speaker 6: like I think he will be something like I like
- 1:39:52Speaker 6: his quickness. This was this was great. You know how
- 1:39:54Speaker 6: you get the innocuous comments that you make on the
- 1:39:56Speaker 6: radio or TV and it gets blown up the next day.
- 1:39:58Speaker 6: I finally had a positive one to blow up for him.
- 1:40:01Speaker 6: Yesterday I said, I think he's quick as l and
- 1:40:03Speaker 6: I think he can play as a knockou This is
- 1:40:06Speaker 6: nothing of comment, ever, I said nothing in like it
- 1:40:10Speaker 6: blew up like everybody's like Patriots reporter, Hi, okay, better
- 1:40:16Speaker 6: that way than what usually happens to me, you know,
- 1:40:20Speaker 6: Parolo Colin Belichick on the way out everything. I taste that.
- 1:40:24Speaker 6: So I was really happy about this, but like, I
- 1:40:28Speaker 6: haven't seen that yet. I haven't like and for whatever reason,
- 1:40:32Speaker 6: Bill doesn't want to play him. So maybe Evan's right.
- 1:40:34Speaker 6: Maybe it's they know what he is, they know what
- 1:40:37Speaker 6: he's gonna do, and they're just saving it.
- 1:40:39Speaker 8: I just don't think anybody else, you know, there's so
- 1:40:41Speaker 8: many underneath option routes in this offense, whether it's you know,
- 1:40:45Speaker 8: the play he had on the third down on Saturday night,
- 1:40:48Speaker 8: the juke series obviously in the middle of the field,
- 1:40:51Speaker 8: and the only he is by far the best guy
- 1:40:54Speaker 8: that to run those routes. Now, will he do it
- 1:40:56Speaker 8: as a high a volume as an Edelman or a
- 1:41:00Speaker 8: Welker or one of like, No, of course, not not
- 1:41:02Speaker 8: out of the gate, but in terms of the guy
- 1:41:04Speaker 8: that can you know, run a little juke rout over
- 1:41:06Speaker 8: the middle and shake a linebacker like I don't think
- 1:41:09Speaker 8: that they have a better guy for it.
- 1:41:11Speaker 6: I agree with that.
- 1:41:12Speaker 4: Yeah, uh, this one guy that we have. At least
- 1:41:15Speaker 4: you might have talked about him before I got here,
- 1:41:17Speaker 4: but I didn't hear it. Probably the start of the game.
- 1:41:21Speaker 4: It's the punter barringer.
- 1:41:24Speaker 6: Two boomers, two boomers.
- 1:41:26Speaker 4: Sixty one in the air with a two yard return
- 1:41:29Speaker 4: and because of the hangtime and.
- 1:41:30Speaker 6: He's got to fight for the penalty, he's got to
- 1:41:32Speaker 6: get consised.
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's the big thing. I mean, a couple
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: of shanks when we were watching, and so I'm not
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: sure what to expect. I think he needs another good
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: night here not to say that. I really think it's
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: still a competition, but I'm worried that he's going to
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: be up and down.
- 1:41:47Speaker 4: Would Nick Folk be a surprise cut, No, he'd be
- 1:41:50Speaker 4: a cut yeah, and then he's not a surprise.
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: And then it may be that you think you.
- 1:41:54Speaker 6: Dropped a guy in the fourth round and you don't
- 1:41:56Speaker 6: expect him to make the team.
- 1:41:57Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:41:58Speaker 8: He's never cut a fourth round pick. Bill Okay, in
- 1:42:01Speaker 8: twenty five years.
- 1:42:03Speaker 4: Can you put the kicker on yeah, Nick Folk?
- 1:42:05Speaker 10: No?
- 1:42:05Speaker 4: Can you put the kicker on the practice squad?
- 1:42:07Speaker 8: My guess now, because he's had to pass through waivers,
- 1:42:10Speaker 8: I'd risk Folk for that Folk, I don't think anybody would. Well,
- 1:42:13Speaker 8: he's a best advantage.
- 1:42:15Speaker 6: But if you if he passes through way, well, I
- 1:42:17Speaker 6: think doesn't everybody have to go through waivers?
- 1:42:19Speaker 2: Now?
- 1:42:19Speaker 8: No, Nick Folk doesn't have to go through waivers anybody
- 1:42:22Speaker 8: with four accrude seasons.
- 1:42:24Speaker 6: But he has to get cut to go to the
- 1:42:25Speaker 6: practice squad. Correct, so he can get cut, so it
- 1:42:27Speaker 6: has nothing to do with waivers. Someone could just sign.
- 1:42:29Speaker 8: Him, correct he become a street free agent.
- 1:42:31Speaker 6: That's would be the now. If you've talked to Nick Folk,
- 1:42:35Speaker 6: he said, listen, this is what we're going to do.
- 1:42:37Speaker 6: You know, maybe they don't, maybe they're not quite sure
- 1:42:40Speaker 6: in Ryland, but they might play with the roster a
- 1:42:43Speaker 6: little bit early in the year and have because what's
- 1:42:45Speaker 6: the extra guy, Like you can bring a guy off
- 1:42:48Speaker 6: the practice squad.
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: Yeah, at elevations, you know, maybe you.
- 1:42:51Speaker 6: Want to maybe you want to kick, you know, I
- 1:42:53Speaker 6: don't know, I don't I would doubt it. I would
- 1:42:55Speaker 6: think he just goes and you don't have to put
- 1:42:58Speaker 6: him on the practice squad.
- 1:42:59Speaker 4: But so, how does everyone feel about the kicking game?
- 1:43:02Speaker 6: I'm fine with that game. Everybody else is generally fine
- 1:43:06Speaker 6: until it until it until it kills you. But I think, yeah,
- 1:43:09Speaker 6: I mean, I think that the first time you're in.
- 1:43:10Speaker 4: You're in.
- 1:43:11Speaker 6: When you miss a field goal, well, you're going to
- 1:43:13Speaker 6: miss him once in a while, I know. But what
- 1:43:14Speaker 6: makes everyone, even justin Tucker misses once in a while.
- 1:43:17Speaker 4: I know, but in a key situation, well in a.
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: Rookie, and I mean I think, you know, when it
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: comes down to it, and hey, we need a good punter,
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: we need a big field goal, Like you know it's
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: gonna be in the back of your mind. These are
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: rookies who haven't been in this position before. I think
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: I'm a little bit you know, interested.
- 1:43:29Speaker 8: Is it going to be in the back of your mind?
- 1:43:31Speaker 8: We need it?
- 1:43:32Speaker 4: Wow, these guys are so cavalier.
- 1:43:34Speaker 6: That's why at some point you have to just put
- 1:43:37Speaker 6: rip the band aid off. I mean, you can't just
- 1:43:40Speaker 6: keep getting these guys in the draft and then saying
- 1:43:43Speaker 6: that they don't work.
- 1:43:44Speaker 4: And I'm just gauging your level of concern zero zero.
- 1:43:49Speaker 6: I'll say one one scale of one to ten.
- 1:43:51Speaker 8: Well, I think the biggest thing I can't say the
- 1:43:54Speaker 8: biggest thing that why I'm not concerned about it is
- 1:43:57Speaker 8: because I think the difference right now in Ryland and
- 1:43:59Speaker 8: Nick Folk is like maybe two kicks a year that
- 1:44:02Speaker 8: Folk might make that might not.
- 1:44:04Speaker 6: I also think that that might get made up for
- 1:44:06Speaker 6: the fact that Ryland can make him more consistently from range.
- 1:44:11Speaker 8: Yeah, and he can kick off, and.
- 1:44:13Speaker 6: He can kick off, and I don't know, I like,
- 1:44:16Speaker 6: we haven't really seen Barringer kick off, have we.
- 1:44:18Speaker 8: No.
- 1:44:20Speaker 6: Weightman has kicked off.
- 1:44:21Speaker 8: A lot in practice a little bit, yeah.
- 1:44:23Speaker 6: But I haven't seen bar So that's another thing to
- 1:44:26Speaker 6: keep in mind.
- 1:44:26Speaker 8: If Weightman will be on the practice squad because he's lefty.
- 1:44:31Speaker 6: Yeah, so they'll.
- 1:44:32Speaker 8: Want him for when they go up against lefty punters.
- 1:44:37Speaker 6: You know who likes that, the returners. They like catching punts.
- 1:44:41Speaker 8: From He's literally a scout team punter.
- 1:44:44Speaker 6: It gives them a different look. Marcus Jones talked about
- 1:44:46Speaker 6: it a little bit, Okay, a few weeks ago.
- 1:44:48Speaker 4: Who's going to be a return Is it going to
- 1:44:50Speaker 4: be Marcus Jones?
- 1:44:51Speaker 6: I would think you brought up something that was on
- 1:44:54Speaker 6: your mind. Yes, what do we make of Marcus Jones
- 1:44:56Speaker 6: the other day not playing at all?
- 1:45:00Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 1:45:01Speaker 8: I'm not sure what to make of Marcus Jones in
- 1:45:03Speaker 8: general right now, because now that's a hot take. I
- 1:45:08Speaker 8: I just don't know where he's gonna play like. I
- 1:45:10Speaker 8: don't know if he's gonna play on defense. They I
- 1:45:14Speaker 8: know you guys yelled at me when I said it.
- 1:45:15Speaker 8: I am not impressed with him as a cornerback they had,
- 1:45:19Speaker 8: so Jalen mill Is gonna play a lot YEP, Jalen
- 1:45:21Speaker 8: mill Is gonna have a big role, whether you want
- 1:45:23Speaker 8: to call it safety, slot, defender, whatever, He's gonna be
- 1:45:26Speaker 8: on the field. And I know that every every Patriots
- 1:45:29Speaker 8: fan always comes at me about Miles Bryant. Miles Bryant's
- 1:45:32Speaker 8: had a pretty decent training camp and he plays some safety,
- 1:45:36Speaker 8: he plays some corner. I don't like him in manning corner,
- 1:45:39Speaker 8: you know, playing over the slot either, Like I fully
- 1:45:42Speaker 8: am in agreement with that. But he's a savvy player
- 1:45:46Speaker 8: for them as well. And if Jack situation stays on
- 1:45:52Speaker 8: the straight and narrow, then it's gonna be Jack Jones,
- 1:45:55Speaker 8: John Jones, and Gonzales.
- 1:45:57Speaker 6: And I don't know if we said this, but Jonathan Jones.
- 1:46:03Speaker 6: Karen Gregian had a tweet about Jonathan Jones recently, suggesting
- 1:46:07Speaker 6: that they're monitoring him. He's projected to be ready to
- 1:46:11Speaker 6: go for week one. He's been out for a while. Yeah,
- 1:46:14Speaker 6: he's missed probably ten practices at this point, ten twelve practices.
- 1:46:18Speaker 6: So I trust Karen Gregian. I think that that's uh.
- 1:46:22Speaker 8: He could be somebody that's powered with there today.
- 1:46:24Speaker 6: Yeah, oh do you have like information on that? No, Okay,
- 1:46:28Speaker 6: he's like he looked at his phone and he's like
- 1:46:29Speaker 6: he could be he could get someone out there today.
- 1:46:31Speaker 4: Well, practice starts at one right, one ten, So Patriots
- 1:46:36Speaker 4: dot Com, I'm sure we're going to have attendance after
- 1:46:38Speaker 4: practice and so we'll update you on who is and
- 1:46:41Speaker 4: who isn't out there. Rick and Dallas writes in should
- 1:46:45Speaker 4: the Patriots be interested in a trade for Lael Collins?
- 1:46:48Speaker 4: And if so, what would be a fair offer for him?
- 1:46:52Speaker 4: He's up there?
- 1:46:54Speaker 6: No, I would take it.
- 1:46:55Speaker 4: I give him, I give a fourth three.
- 1:46:57Speaker 6: Is he available?
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: Is there a competent NFL tackle?
- 1:46:59Speaker 6: Isn't Williams the one that's available?
- 1:47:01Speaker 7: No?
- 1:47:01Speaker 8: Apparently their coaching staff praise Jonah Williams this morning.
- 1:47:05Speaker 6: So that's why that's why we've moved to Layo Collins.
- 1:47:08Speaker 8: Yeah, the guy that might be available as the guy
- 1:47:10Speaker 8: in Arizona, Josh Jones.
- 1:47:12Speaker 6: Yeah, so I have a question about that, Evan. You know,
- 1:47:15Speaker 6: he knows the depth shots better than I do. So
- 1:47:17Speaker 6: you're telling me one of the three worst teams in
- 1:47:19Speaker 6: football has three qualities starting caliber tackles, yes and no,
- 1:47:24Speaker 6: and they're looking to get rid of one of them.
- 1:47:25Speaker 8: So they drafted Paris Johnson. Yeah, and he's gonna play
- 1:47:28Speaker 8: left tackle. And Jones has been better on the left
- 1:47:30Speaker 8: side than the right side, so right side he's not
- 1:47:34Speaker 8: been very good.
- 1:47:35Speaker 6: So I read about this a lot last night. That's
- 1:47:37Speaker 6: the new flavor of the month right guy heading into
- 1:47:40Speaker 6: his last year of his deal. You know, Monte Austin Fort.
- 1:47:44Speaker 6: You know, with the Cardinals, you have obviously a relationship with,
- 1:47:47Speaker 6: you know, make a deal. I'm all for it.
- 1:47:49Speaker 8: He's a good left tackle.
- 1:47:51Speaker 6: I'm absolutely in favor of it. I just can't imagine
- 1:47:54Speaker 6: that the Cardinals, who don't have a lot of talent
- 1:47:57Speaker 6: across the board. I saw one of the worst offensive
- 1:48:00Speaker 6: lines I ever saw in that Monday night game last year. Now,
- 1:48:03Speaker 6: admittedly they were all hurt that night, none of the
- 1:48:07Speaker 6: quote unquote starters played, but I just that was the
- 1:48:10Speaker 6: first thing I thought of it. So, this team of
- 1:48:12Speaker 6: all teams has three tackles that are starting caliber. They
- 1:48:16Speaker 6: might and they're gonna get rid of one who's on
- 1:48:19Speaker 6: the last year of his rookie deal.
- 1:48:20Speaker 8: DJ Humphries is the other one.
- 1:48:22Speaker 6: But why wouldn't you just keep them all? Like someone's
- 1:48:24Speaker 6: gonna get hurt. Yeah, he saw the last year of
- 1:48:27Speaker 6: his rookie deal. What are you gonna get for him?
- 1:48:29Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 1:48:29Speaker 6: He's like, you'll swim steel. Well, we'll give a sixth
- 1:48:32Speaker 6: and they'll you know, we'll give a fourth, they'll give
- 1:48:34Speaker 6: us a six we'll switch spots and we'll get, you know,
- 1:48:37Speaker 6: like to get a little bit more than that. I'm
- 1:48:39Speaker 6: all for it from the Patriots perspective for sure. If
- 1:48:41Speaker 6: I were the Cardinals, I would say, these guys drop
- 1:48:44Speaker 6: like flies. If he's that good, I'm gonna rely on
- 1:48:47Speaker 6: a rookie to go seventeen games. He's gonna get hurt.
- 1:48:50Speaker 6: I'll play him at left tackle when he gets hurt.
- 1:48:52Speaker 8: So I guess right now, maybe.
- 1:48:54Speaker 6: That's another team that doesn't want to win.
- 1:48:55Speaker 8: So, so Humphries is a veteran DJ Humphries, Yeah, plays tackle,
- 1:48:59Speaker 8: and they drafted Pairs Johnson and then Josh Jones is
- 1:49:01Speaker 8: the third guy.
- 1:49:02Speaker 6: So well, I was reading up on this last time.
- 1:49:05Speaker 8: Yeah, so Humphreys has played on the left side most
- 1:49:08Speaker 8: of his career, but you didn't. You drafted Paris Johnson,
- 1:49:12Speaker 8: what like fifth overall or something like he's gonna play
- 1:49:15Speaker 8: left tack first.
- 1:49:16Speaker 6: You're gonna play him. Yeah, that I totally understand, But like,
- 1:49:19Speaker 6: I don't understand what's wrong with having three tackles, especially
- 1:49:23Speaker 6: when you're talking about that the one that you want
- 1:49:25Speaker 6: to trade is on the as I read it last night.
- 1:49:27Speaker 6: If this is incorrect, Yeah, last year of his rookie deal. Yeah,
- 1:49:30Speaker 6: like that's cheap for a third tackle. I'll take that.
- 1:49:33Speaker 4: Well.
- 1:49:33Speaker 8: I think the question is is there's so many teams
- 1:49:36Speaker 8: and I know we talk about it just the Patriots
- 1:49:38Speaker 8: most of the time, but there are so many teams
- 1:49:40Speaker 8: that need offensive line help. So if that actually does
- 1:49:44Speaker 8: become a market for a guy like Josh Jones, who
- 1:49:46Speaker 8: does have starting caliber tape in the NFL, then maybe
- 1:49:50Speaker 8: you are getting a real asset.
- 1:49:52Speaker 6: If you could get a real asset back, then I
- 1:49:54Speaker 6: understand it from the Cardinals, I'm not sure you do
- 1:49:57Speaker 6: at this stage, but maybe I don't know.
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: Maybe they will really just like I would tell him
- 1:50:01Speaker 1: Anderson get out there and if if they're willing to
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: try him at right tackle and if he you know,
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: I know, Mike said, what could that have been?
- 1:50:07Speaker 7: Though?
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: I think it was non football like non.
- 1:50:11Speaker 6: Not football illness, and we don't know what it was.
- 1:50:13Speaker 6: Mike has sort of indicated that he's close.
- 1:50:15Speaker 4: Non football illness illness. What is a football illness?
- 1:50:19Speaker 6: Non football illness?
- 1:50:20Speaker 4: I know, but what would be if it's a illness
- 1:50:22Speaker 4: be non football And if I list I've heard of
- 1:50:26Speaker 4: non football injury.
- 1:50:27Speaker 8: Yeah, I know this was I've gotten this confused all summer.
- 1:50:31Speaker 6: It means. It means that you come into camp with
- 1:50:34Speaker 6: something that had nothing to do with anything that happened
- 1:50:37Speaker 6: when you're playing football.
- 1:50:38Speaker 8: Correct, Like if you were to like catch covid, uh,
- 1:50:41Speaker 8: you know, in the facility right during the season, then
- 1:50:44Speaker 8: that would not be considered a non football illness because
- 1:50:47Speaker 8: he was here.
- 1:50:48Speaker 6: I just think it's a I never thought.
- 1:50:50Speaker 4: I never thought there was a difference of illnesses.
- 1:50:53Speaker 6: Okay, injuries, I got. The difference is you don't have
- 1:50:57Speaker 6: to pay So if.
- 1:50:59Speaker 4: It's during the season and I catch something from my kids,
- 1:51:03Speaker 4: is that a non football injury, they don't have to
- 1:51:06Speaker 4: pay me.
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: Check with the lawyers on that one.
- 1:51:08Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 1:51:08Speaker 4: I don't know that.
- 1:51:09Speaker 8: I'm not never heard on this.
- 1:51:11Speaker 6: You can't get on the non football illness list in
- 1:51:13Speaker 6: the middle of the season, I don't think. So you
- 1:51:14Speaker 6: have to start camp on those lists. Okay, I think, yeah,
- 1:51:18Speaker 6: that's the difference.
- 1:51:19Speaker 3: Players who report to training camp injured or due to illness.
- 1:51:23Speaker 8: Right report all right, so you have to have it.
- 1:51:26Speaker 6: So whatever it is, he's still sick right now. The
- 1:51:29Speaker 6: difference between me more than even COVID. Just so you know,
- 1:51:32Speaker 6: it's not sick. I mean it's got to be something
- 1:51:34Speaker 6: like a blood clot issue or some kind of a
- 1:51:37Speaker 6: heart murmured movie they found. I'm speculating wildly, but it's
- 1:51:41Speaker 6: not COVID. You don't miss R six weeks with right.
- 1:51:45Speaker 4: Rick also wants to know, are you guys ready to
- 1:51:47Speaker 4: call the juju replacing Meyers offseason move a mistake? Would
- 1:51:51Speaker 4: the Patriots be better off starting the season with Myers.
- 1:51:55Speaker 8: I'm not ready.
- 1:51:56Speaker 6: It's the same. Yeah, That's the way I felt about
- 1:51:58Speaker 6: it when it happened, and it's the way I feel
- 1:52:00Speaker 6: about it now. I kind of agree with the way
- 1:52:02Speaker 6: Mike and Evan talk about it, like if Douglas can
- 1:52:06Speaker 6: be this quick, shifty guy and Born can have a
- 1:52:09Speaker 6: bigger role than he did last year, then that might
- 1:52:11Speaker 6: be better than having Myers here, because if Myers were here,
- 1:52:15Speaker 6: you know where the balls would be going, and you'd
- 1:52:17Speaker 6: sort of still be limited.
- 1:52:20Speaker 4: Donnie and Pittsburgh Thousand agreed with what Evan said about
- 1:52:24Speaker 4: the roster cuts. They should throw out whatever conventions and
- 1:52:26Speaker 4: traditions are telling them not to keep an extra wide
- 1:52:29Speaker 4: receiver or to find a role for Cunning Him players
- 1:52:32Speaker 4: like him and Boute that will certainly not clear waivers
- 1:52:35Speaker 4: should be prioritized over a third tight end or fears
- 1:52:38Speaker 4: about the old line.
- 1:52:39Speaker 6: Why is understood?
- 1:52:41Speaker 4: Why is it that always our practice squad guys are
- 1:52:45Speaker 4: better than everybody else's practice squad. Yeah?
- 1:52:47Speaker 8: I would also, I would the whole notion that there's
- 1:52:51Speaker 8: no way that Kishan Bouti clears waivers, like there's just
- 1:52:55Speaker 8: no chance that that happened. Chance is kind of crazy
- 1:52:58Speaker 8: because you have to people have to remember, you have
- 1:53:01Speaker 8: to put him on your fifty three man roster. You
- 1:53:04Speaker 8: can't claim him to put him on your practice squad, right,
- 1:53:07Speaker 8: So that means that you have to create an open
- 1:53:09Speaker 8: roster spot.
- 1:53:10Speaker 6: And I believe for three weeks.
- 1:53:11Speaker 8: And say that he is better than one of the
- 1:53:14Speaker 8: receivers that we currently have to open up that roster
- 1:53:17Speaker 8: spot to put kish On Booty on your football team.
- 1:53:20Speaker 8: And right now he has one catch in preseason that
- 1:53:24Speaker 8: was impressive.
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: And and what has Cunningham done too? Like Cunningham one
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: had one drive?
- 1:53:30Speaker 4: Right?
- 1:53:30Speaker 6: Can I just go back to like because sometimes when
- 1:53:33Speaker 6: we say things, it gets characterized differently, Like I don't
- 1:53:36Speaker 6: think Evan is in favor of keeping cunning him as
- 1:53:38Speaker 6: a receiver. Is that wrong. No, he wasn't on the six,
- 1:53:44Speaker 6: and six is not an extra receiver. Seven would be
- 1:53:46Speaker 6: an extra receiver. They've kept four as few was four,
- 1:53:50Speaker 6: they've kept five and they've kept six. Right, And if
- 1:53:53Speaker 6: you know, you go way back when they first got
- 1:53:55Speaker 6: Slater and people counted them as a wide receiver, there
- 1:53:57Speaker 6: was a time that they kept seven, but Slater was
- 1:54:00Speaker 6: one of them.
- 1:54:01Speaker 8: The only difference is in the past when they keep six,
- 1:54:04Speaker 8: it's like for like a Gunner Oschefski, it's a guy
- 1:54:06Speaker 8: that really is projecting as a returner, and now like
- 1:54:10Speaker 8: Douglas can return. So I guess maybe you could make
- 1:54:13Speaker 8: that case. But Marcus Jones is gonna be your punt returner,
- 1:54:15Speaker 8: I feel, And maybe one of those guys Booty or
- 1:54:18Speaker 8: Douglas factors isn't on kickoffs.
- 1:54:20Speaker 6: I suppose they've used both of them as returners throughout. Yeah,
- 1:54:23Speaker 6: oh yeah, they.
- 1:54:23Speaker 8: Can both return, especially Douglas, but I don't think that
- 1:54:26Speaker 8: they're gonna be your primary guy, Whereas Gunner made the
- 1:54:28Speaker 8: team in nineteen as the primary kick returner, like they
- 1:54:32Speaker 8: knew that that's what they were going to use him for.
- 1:54:33Speaker 6: And back to how the puzzles. The puzzle pieces fit together.
- 1:54:37Speaker 6: Isaiah Bolden's a guy that I think was there as
- 1:54:41Speaker 6: a kickoff return option, and I don't know what his
- 1:54:44Speaker 6: status is going to be moving forward, but that could
- 1:54:46Speaker 6: be in doubt now. So maybe you want to keep
- 1:54:51Speaker 6: another one of those receivers as an extra return guy too.
- 1:54:54Speaker 4: Yeah. All right, well listen, that's gonna be it for
- 1:54:56Speaker 4: this edition of Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:54:59Speaker 6: Really cut.
