- 1:01Speaker 1: over so you can binge it all because it does
- 1:03Speaker 1: give you a two week free access to the platform.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I was thinking yesterday, I was putting my notes together.
- 1:10Speaker 1: When do you think Hallmarked Channel is going to drop
- 1:13Speaker 1: this show? Do you think they're going to I do
- 1:15Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be next year. When Calls the
- 1:20Speaker 1: Heart usually drops so right after Christmas, right like in January,
- 1:23Speaker 1: So maybe they won't do it like that. I thought
- 1:25Speaker 1: maybe it would, it would come out before when Calls
- 1:27Speaker 1: the Heart, but maybe, I don't know. I think it's
- 1:29Speaker 1: gonna be next year.
- 1:31Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I mean, I think they're trying really hard to keep
- 1:35Speaker 1: exclusive content exclusive content this time around, but we shall see.
- 1:38Speaker 1: We'll see what happens with because we are back in
- 1:41Speaker 1: the realm of you know, kind of we had like
- 1:44Speaker 1: a swing, right We started Hallmark Plus with exclusive content,
- 1:47Speaker 1: and then they went away from that for a long time,
- 1:50Speaker 1: and now they're kind of a full court press into
- 1:53Speaker 1: that again. We have the new Aaron Cahill reality series coming.
- 1:58Speaker 2: We have Mom's the Bride.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Oh that's right, I had forgotten all about that.
- 2:04Speaker 2: That drops in May.
- 2:05Speaker 1: We have Lacey's new series. I imagine we'll see something
- 2:08Speaker 1: for the holidays there as well. So anyway, it will
- 2:12Speaker 1: be interesting to see what what this next round looks.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Like for Hallmark Plus.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Side note, Yeah, if you don't know, Girls Gone, Hallmark
- 2:20Speaker 1: has a book club and we are doing Lacey's new
- 2:23Speaker 1: serie Paris is always a good idea.
- 2:25Speaker 2: Yep.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I'm really curious to see how they're gonna homemarkify that.
- 2:31Speaker 2: There are some parts, right, yeah, pretty easily.
- 2:33Speaker 1: But there are some iconic moments in the book that
- 2:36Speaker 1: I'm like, well, I'm really gonna miss seeing that in
- 2:37Speaker 1: the in the series. Well, and on top of that too,
- 2:41Speaker 1: the lead character Chelsea kind of not likable, not in
- 2:46Speaker 1: the beginning, at the beginning, and I'm like, that's gonna
- 2:48Speaker 1: be really interesting to see Lacey take on that kind
- 2:52Speaker 1: of persona. Sure, So anyway, I do like that they
- 2:55Speaker 1: have a full series though, in order for her to
- 2:58Speaker 1: grow on us.
- 2:59Speaker 2: It's not just growth of our twenty minute movies.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, all right, Well let's talk Hope Valley eighteen
- 3:04Speaker 1: seventy four, Episode four with a synopsis. Rebecca applies her
- 3:09Speaker 1: medical knowledge when Nash breaks his leg. Tom inadvertently strikes
- 3:14Speaker 1: a bargain with Rebecca to supply the lumber for the
- 3:16Speaker 1: boarding house. Some quick news and notes about this episode.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Martin Wood returns as director. His other work includes One
- 3:23Speaker 1: Calls The Heart, Sullivan's Crossing, and Virgin River.
- 3:26Speaker 2: We'll be curious to see if he returns for any
- 3:28Speaker 2: additional episodes. This season.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Jennifer Siddle wrote this episode. Her other work includes a
- 3:33Speaker 1: series called The Unstoppable Jinny Garcia, which is about a
- 3:37Speaker 1: teen girl who navigates cancer and normalcy. I tried to
- 3:42Speaker 1: look to see where this show was streaming at because
- 3:45Speaker 1: I was very intrigued. Uh huh, I can't find it anywhere.
- 3:49Speaker 1: I think it's a Canadian series, but I could not
- 3:52Speaker 1: find it. I'm curious if anybody has seen this show.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Do you have the just watch app I don't.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Well, it's my favorite whenever someone's like, where is this streaming?
- 4:02Speaker 1: Because you know, if you google like Bill our girls streaming,
- 4:06Speaker 1: the results are wrong. Yes, so Prime Video, No it's not.
- 4:10Speaker 1: I look there, just watch app A, just watch come
- 4:16Speaker 1: sponsor us. Seriously, this is one of my favorites because
- 4:20Speaker 1: my husband watches a lot of old television and he's
- 4:24Speaker 1: always like, oh, where's the A team streaming?
- 4:27Speaker 2: A team? WHOA?
- 4:29Speaker 1: So let's see if The Unstoppable Jenny Garcia is streaming anywhere?
- 4:34Speaker 2: Not available at the moment.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going to continue to go way off course
- 4:39Speaker 1: here too. Sarah Drew has a Lifetime movie coming out.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Yeah, should we review it?
- 4:43Speaker 1: I think we should. I'm such a huge fan of
- 4:45Speaker 1: Sarah Drew, so I just do I just want to
- 4:47Speaker 1: see what what else this is out there?
- 4:49Speaker 2: Let's do it. Okay.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Our regular cast returns in this episode with the addition
- 4:53Speaker 1: of Tyler Robert, who plays the other MOUNTI. In my notes,
- 4:58Speaker 1: I was calling them C squared, constant squared, C squared.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I love that. I love that.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Hey, Wendy, what was your first impression of this episode
- 5:06Speaker 1: of Hopeblly eighteen seventy four. Well, I texted you something similar.
- 5:11Speaker 1: But Rebecca has officially entered her mc iver era and
- 5:14Speaker 1: I'm annoyed about it. My first impression is they're gonna
- 5:18Speaker 1: regret working Rebecca so hard when they run her ragged
- 5:21Speaker 1: and they don't have her healthcare, food, a teacher, or
- 5:24Speaker 1: a place to live. Freel like, be serious, here, is
- 5:30Speaker 1: anybody capable of anything?
- 5:34Speaker 2: Well, this is what I'm wondering. We'll talk about it.
- 5:36Speaker 2: We'll talk about it, okay, Okay, Can I start with
- 5:38Speaker 2: the likes? Yes, ma'am.
- 5:40Speaker 1: I want to be clear, I am still in on
- 5:42Speaker 1: this show me do. I am really enjoying it. I'm
- 5:47Speaker 1: really enjoying it.
- 5:49Speaker 2: What is enjoying?
- 5:52Speaker 1: You're so hurry, You're liking it. You're enjoying it. I
- 5:57Speaker 1: think you're trying to add a syllable though that's not there.
- 5:59Speaker 1: I know can end somehow, I don't know.
- 6:01Speaker 2: Okay, anyway, enjoying it. Yeah.
- 6:06Speaker 1: My husband he came by and he's like, he's asked
- 6:08Speaker 1: this week after week. He's like, is this Hallmark. I'm like, yes,
- 6:11Speaker 1: this is Hallmark, Hallmark pull us. But I'm like it's
- 6:15Speaker 1: I'm like, it's it's like Little House on the Prairie.
- 6:18Speaker 2: I'm like, it's not bad.
- 6:19Speaker 1: He's like, you don't seem to mean enjoying.
- 6:22Speaker 2: Gone there it is again.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Anyway, I'm like, I I do like it. Uh huh,
- 6:28Speaker 1: I do like it. But it was this episode that
- 6:31Speaker 1: I was like, deep sigh, eye roll, I'm just annoyed
- 6:37Speaker 1: by a lot of things in this episode. And I
- 6:39Speaker 1: don't know if it's just because we're it's episode four,
- 6:41Speaker 1: we're kind of mid season ish a little bit, yeah,
- 6:45Speaker 1: a little bit of a transition period or how long
- 6:48Speaker 1: are we literally going to be in the muck here?
- 6:52Speaker 2: Stuck in the muck.
- 6:54Speaker 1: So with that said, I do have some likes, but
- 6:56Speaker 1: I have a quite a few wishes. Okay, quite a
- 7:00Speaker 1: few wishes. Why don't you start with your likes? Tell
- 7:03Speaker 1: me what you well.
- 7:03Speaker 2: I still am enjoying this series as well.
- 7:05Speaker 1: I do have a lot of wishes about this episode,
- 7:06Speaker 1: but I am enjoying the slow burn connection we're seeing
- 7:09Speaker 1: bloom between Tom and Rebecca. It is a very slow burn.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Wendy's making a face. I don't really know what that's about.
- 7:17Speaker 1: You're not liking it. I'm not seen, and I see
- 7:20Speaker 1: some softness happening.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Yes, oh my god, I can't.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Guys, I broke a tooth. I think that's I think
- 7:27Speaker 1: that's what it is. It's affecting my speech.
- 7:31Speaker 2: Okay.
- 7:35Speaker 1: They're still a little bit at odds, but they have
- 7:38Speaker 1: dinner together.
- 7:39Speaker 2: She opens up to him.
- 7:41Speaker 1: It's very clear when the Mounty returns, he talks about
- 7:47Speaker 1: coming to live in the boarding house.
- 7:48Speaker 2: I'll talk about that too, And it's clear.
- 7:50Speaker 1: That Tom is Tom knows, he's known from the beginning
- 7:53Speaker 1: something's up. He knows there's more to Rebecca's story, and
- 7:56Speaker 1: he shows genuine concern, in my opinion, about what's going
- 8:01Speaker 1: on there. He does not seem to me to be
- 8:06Speaker 1: worried about what it might be. Okay, he doesn't seem
- 8:10Speaker 1: to fear Rebecca. He doesn't seem to think she's a danger.
- 8:14Speaker 1: He doesn't seem to think, in my opinion, that it's
- 8:17Speaker 1: problematic that she's here other than the fact that he
- 8:20Speaker 1: doesn't like the Prospectors, and her being here is smoothing
- 8:23Speaker 1: that a little bit, making a way for them to
- 8:27Speaker 1: continue to be here. Correct, But he doesn't seem to
- 8:30Speaker 1: have a problem with Rebecca herself or whatever she's hiding.
- 8:34Speaker 1: He sensed it from the beginning, and I just feel
- 8:38Speaker 1: like when he is like approaches her at the end
- 8:42Speaker 1: of that episode, to me, it seems like he's almost saying, like,
- 8:45Speaker 1: I'm on your side. She still doesn't tell him what's up, right,
- 8:49Speaker 1: She still doesn't even really let on that she's agreeing
- 8:52Speaker 1: with him that something's up.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I just feel like he makes her this beautiful dinner.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I'm a mistake. I think I see it. It's slow,
- 9:04Speaker 2: it is. I'm fine with that.
- 9:06Speaker 1: It would be so weird if they were together at
- 9:08Speaker 1: this point. Oh for sure, I agree. I agree. I
- 9:13Speaker 1: agree with you. Also, I'm so glad that he because
- 9:18Speaker 1: earlier in a few episodes ago, he'd asked about, why
- 9:23Speaker 1: are you worried about the constable being here? Et cetera,
- 9:26Speaker 1: et cetera. He presses her again in this episode, like
- 9:28Speaker 1: you just talked about I like it that he's a
- 9:31Speaker 1: little more direct this time, but she does kind of
- 9:35Speaker 1: change the subject. Sure, I'm like, I need more info.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Though at this point she didn't kill so maybe she
- 9:41Speaker 1: did kill somebody, but I doubt it's going that way.
- 9:43Speaker 2: I think it's honestly, I feel like it's gonna be
- 9:45Speaker 2: so minor.
- 9:46Speaker 1: It's gonna be so minor. Look, I feel like the
- 9:49Speaker 1: only reason the constable is zeroed in on Rebecca. The
- 9:53Speaker 1: clarity we get in this episode is that he's bored.
- 9:56Speaker 1: There's nothing else for him to do, so now there's
- 9:58Speaker 1: this mystery for him to say. We see him meet
- 10:01Speaker 1: up with his constable buddy and they get to be
- 10:04Speaker 1: cowboys out in the woods. It's a perfect, perfect analogy.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Wrestle this guy to the brown and he gets to
- 10:11Speaker 1: be a part of the action, and he realizes that
- 10:13Speaker 1: other people are having.
- 10:14Speaker 2: A more interesting time of it than he is.
- 10:17Speaker 1: And things in Hope Valley are pretty calm and even,
- 10:20Speaker 1: and there's some infighting, but for the most part, it's
- 10:24Speaker 1: not that hard of a job that he's having, right,
- 10:26Speaker 1: And so we see him kind of yearn for adventure.
- 10:30Speaker 1: I feel like the reason he's zeroed in on Rebecca.
- 10:33Speaker 1: This episode gave me the clarity of like, man needs
- 10:36Speaker 1: something to do, he needs he needs a big win,
- 10:39Speaker 1: and it's not going to be catching this trapper who
- 10:42Speaker 1: has stolen goods. This is what This is one of
- 10:46Speaker 1: the most irritating storylines for me. He's digging around where
- 10:50Speaker 1: there's nothing to be dug up.
- 10:52Speaker 2: There's something we know, there's something.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Okay, agree, but also, you're not a detective, dude.
- 10:58Speaker 2: You're there. You like to keep the PI.
- 11:01Speaker 1: You're a rookie. You're there to keep the piece. These
- 11:04Speaker 1: new laws. You just want to make sure that everybody's behaving.
- 11:07Speaker 1: You're not there to solve some crime of the century.
- 11:09Speaker 1: You're super annoyed by that, Okay. But on the flip
- 11:16Speaker 1: side of it, the like I do have is him
- 11:22Speaker 1: telling Rebecca like, oh, I want to, I want to.
- 11:24Speaker 1: I want to be in the boarding house. I drop.
- 11:25Speaker 1: He wants to be closer, he wants to see what's
- 11:27Speaker 1: going on. But I am bothered by it. But I
- 11:31Speaker 1: also want more. It's just it's too slow for me.
- 11:34Speaker 1: This part is too slow for me, Like, give me
- 11:38Speaker 1: some more substantial evidence that he is coming across that
- 11:44Speaker 1: makes him suspicious of her, because just being like a
- 11:48Speaker 1: woman who has come out onto the frontier is not enough.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Then why aren't you looking at Hattie.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Well, but Hattie didn't cross the country.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I get I get it. But I know I was
- 12:00Speaker 1: just trying to make an example.
- 12:01Speaker 2: But now you know, I do think there's something to
- 12:04Speaker 2: look for. I do think.
- 12:05Speaker 1: I do think Rebecca is noticeable. I do think she
- 12:08Speaker 1: stands out. I do think it's interesting. I would be
- 12:11Speaker 1: very curious as to the reason why she felt compelled
- 12:14Speaker 1: to go so far away from home with a child.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Life we see is not easy. I don't know that
- 12:21Speaker 1: my first thought, maybe because he is of the law,
- 12:25Speaker 1: his first.
- 12:25Speaker 2: Thought is like, there must be something nefarious there. I
- 12:28Speaker 2: don't know that.
- 12:28Speaker 1: My first thought would be that something back, just something happened.
- 12:32Speaker 1: What is she running from? I'm very curious.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Please do not make me wait until episode eight. I'm
- 12:37Speaker 2: gonna need some reveals. Agree Agree?
- 12:40Speaker 1: What else did you like Benjamin Airs being Benjamin Airs.
- 12:43Speaker 1: There's there's a little there's a couple like throwaway moments
- 12:48Speaker 1: where he has like those tiny clashes of humor and charm,
- 12:52Speaker 1: that I love about him. I'm like, there he is, there,
- 12:56Speaker 1: he is because he is his character is so oh,
- 13:00Speaker 1: I feel unlike what we've seen from from sure Benjamin Air,
- 13:04Speaker 1: so like when he's trying to sneak in these little
- 13:06Speaker 1: like charming moments, it feels like a little glitter.
- 13:13Speaker 2: I was very nervous we were going to get a
- 13:14Speaker 2: scene with them resetting the bone. In fact, I was.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Watching them assess Nash where he's in a lot of pain,
- 13:22Speaker 1: and I was kind of watching it like I watched
- 13:24Speaker 1: the pit like a little bit through my fingers.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Oh, come on, I don't they skip right past it.
- 13:29Speaker 1: I was like, I can't have them like pulling that
- 13:31Speaker 1: bone and have him screaming in agony.
- 13:34Speaker 2: So honestly I was glad. I mean, the pit gets graphic,
- 13:39Speaker 2: I know, I do have to.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Go. Yeah, and then the guy with the rope this
- 13:50Speaker 1: past week, Oh I have to look away. Obviously it
- 13:53Speaker 1: was not nearly that graphic, but they were selling it
- 13:57Speaker 1: to me that he was in pain.
- 13:59Speaker 2: And I you know, when they were looking at his shin.
- 14:01Speaker 2: They don't show it, of course, but they were like
- 14:03Speaker 2: clearly very broken. I could envision what that might look like. Yeah,
- 14:09Speaker 2: I liked it.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Do you think they were gonna have to take him
- 14:11Speaker 1: out back and put him down? I just thought there
- 14:15Speaker 1: was gonna be this scene like we would get on
- 14:17Speaker 1: the pit of them, like yoinking.
- 14:19Speaker 2: It in off the directions. Yeah, we didn't get that.
- 14:23Speaker 1: No we didn't.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Do you have any other lights? I do? Okay, go ahead?
- 14:27Speaker 2: Do you know I don't? Oh? Oh, I have you Okay?
- 14:30Speaker 1: We get another look inside Tom's house and it's gorgeous.
- 14:33Speaker 1: We know that Clayton made his dining table, but there's
- 14:35Speaker 1: art on the wall. It's very warm and inviting. I'm
- 14:37Speaker 1: curious if that's all Tom, if there's some other influence
- 14:40Speaker 1: from his past that we don't know about.
- 14:42Speaker 2: I think it's.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Actually quite nice for this rancher's home on a frontier,
- 14:46Speaker 1: if I'm being honest.
- 14:48Speaker 2: But it is very beautiful.
- 14:51Speaker 1: Listener, Wayne's always talking about wanting more grit, and I
- 14:53Speaker 1: feel like we get it in this episode. We see
- 14:56Speaker 1: Rebecca plowing the field in the rain and in the mud.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I'm aware that they could manufacture that level of in
- 15:05Speaker 1: the muck, as it were, but it doesn't. It feels real,
- 15:08Speaker 1: like you know, it's rained on Rebecca. She's wet she's muddy,
- 15:12Speaker 1: and while I'm aware that she didn't plow that entire field,
- 15:15Speaker 1: she is actively trudging through the mud with that plow
- 15:19Speaker 1: in her hands. Bethany joy Lind's was really putting in
- 15:22Speaker 1: the work here. I think it gives new meaning to
- 15:25Speaker 1: the term backbreaking work. I have some thoughts about that
- 15:28Speaker 1: scene in my in my wishes, I have one more
- 15:32Speaker 1: little like before we get to those wishes of yours,
- 15:34Speaker 1: and it is I liked seeing the cracks and Lars's
- 15:37Speaker 1: armor here. Life for these prospectors is hard, and in
- 15:41Speaker 1: the weird way, it's nice to be reminded of that
- 15:43Speaker 1: because we see them in the river panning for gold,
- 15:48Speaker 1: and we see them in their camp, but the reality
- 15:52Speaker 1: is they're living in a tent.
- 15:54Speaker 2: It is cold, it is wet. This man has a baby.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Life is hard, and I think sometimes when we just
- 16:02Speaker 1: see them going about the day to day and not
- 16:04Speaker 1: talking about the difficulty of it and the fact that
- 16:07Speaker 1: he's like, I'm barely getting by. I liked a little
- 16:10Speaker 1: bit of that reminder. They are eating sardines out of
- 16:14Speaker 1: cans for their meal. I know I no offense to
- 16:19Speaker 1: people who like sardines. I mean, I like a sardine
- 16:20Speaker 1: in a casar solid too, but I don't want to
- 16:23Speaker 1: eat a.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Can of them. No, no, and I just kind of.
- 16:28Speaker 1: Forget the reality of it all. Yeah, And I think
- 16:32Speaker 1: that brought it home, especially with Lars. Lars is really
- 16:36Speaker 1: in the thick of it, and I like Lars and
- 16:40Speaker 1: I'm rooting for him.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Of course.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Of course, let's take a click break and won't come
- 16:44Speaker 1: right back with our wishes. All right, let's talk things
- 16:56Speaker 1: we wished for in this episode.
- 16:58Speaker 2: I have a big list. Okay, let's hear it.
- 17:02Speaker 1: My number one wish goes back to Rebecca being the
- 17:05Speaker 1: solution to every single problem and hope Valley. Yes, I
- 17:09Speaker 1: have reached my limit. She's teaching, she's feeding everyone, she's
- 17:13Speaker 1: potentially going to open a boarding house, she's setting bones,
- 17:17Speaker 1: she's plowing a field like one, there's not enough hours
- 17:22Speaker 1: in the day.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Two.
- 17:24Speaker 1: I don't know how this human is functioning. Sure, I'm
- 17:29Speaker 1: just annoyed by this. I'm further annoyed that people are
- 17:35Speaker 1: so dying to get Lars and his wife and the
- 17:38Speaker 1: baby are so dying to get into this boarding house potentially,
- 17:41Speaker 1: but they cannot pick up the hammer and help, Like,
- 17:43Speaker 1: where's the community help? Here like Rebecca's doing everything. Yes
- 17:48Speaker 1: I did. Lol, though when Hattie's like, oh you're roof
- 17:50Speaker 1: caved in. Oh btw, like this was not headline news
- 17:59Speaker 1: it was it was like just.
- 18:00Speaker 2: To add ansel to injury.
- 18:02Speaker 1: By the way, it was okay, Like you said, Rebecca
- 18:06Speaker 1: is everything to everyone in this in this town. What
- 18:10Speaker 1: were they doing before she got there? Because they say
- 18:14Speaker 1: that the nearest doctor is two hours away. I don't understand.
- 18:17Speaker 1: What would they have done in another before Rebecca got there.
- 18:20Speaker 1: You're telling me there wasn't an injury, ranching life on horseback,
- 18:24Speaker 1: backbreaking work, there weren't injuries or we're.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Needing ten to two. Who would they have called upon
- 18:30Speaker 2: in that instance?
- 18:31Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 18:32Speaker 2: So that's what I need to know. I find it.
- 18:36Speaker 2: I understand. I get like, this is the frontier. This
- 18:39Speaker 2: is not a town.
- 18:40Speaker 1: This is not like you know, you have your bakery
- 18:43Speaker 1: and your doctor, and I get that. But these seemed
- 18:47Speaker 1: to be all very resourceful people, and it seems like
- 18:50Speaker 1: we would have needed to find a solution to this
- 18:54Speaker 1: problem before Rebecca came riding in. Yeah, how did how
- 18:59Speaker 1: did I care remember her name right now? But how
- 19:01Speaker 1: did the girl who just had the baby plan to
- 19:04Speaker 1: have that baby without Rebecca being there. That's a great question,
- 19:09Speaker 1: you know, like what were we going to do. I'm into,
- 19:13Speaker 1: like a badass Rebecca being able to do all this stuff,
- 19:16Speaker 1: but at this point it feels a little bit unbelievable
- 19:19Speaker 1: to me.
- 19:19Speaker 2: I'm into it too, Like I love a strong woman.
- 19:21Speaker 1: I love look she and she and Tom are both
- 19:25Speaker 1: so hard headed, but I appreciate it in her.
- 19:27Speaker 2: She's like, look, I only have me.
- 19:29Speaker 1: It's my daughter and me against the world, and I
- 19:35Speaker 1: can't count on anybody else, so I need to be
- 19:37Speaker 1: the one to do it. But at the same time,
- 19:40Speaker 1: she's doing too much, and it's I don't understand why
- 19:45Speaker 1: we wasted time using rotten boards to patch up the
- 19:47Speaker 1: boarding house, knowing they were going to fail soon anyway,
- 19:50Speaker 1: they talk about those only had a month or two
- 19:52Speaker 1: in them.
- 19:52Speaker 2: Why did we waste the time? Why did we do that?
- 19:54Speaker 2: Why did we not.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Put our time into something more productive? I understand, okay,
- 19:59Speaker 1: we needed a roof over our head, a literal roof
- 20:01Speaker 1: over our head, but why weren't we going out? Was
- 20:04Speaker 1: the woman's name Sydney with the bees? What was the
- 20:06Speaker 1: name with the bees? I can't remember her name? Why
- 20:08Speaker 1: weren't we going to her and be like, hey, can
- 20:09Speaker 1: we get another one of your wax treated art. It's
- 20:11Speaker 1: hard to cover this while I make the money to
- 20:14Speaker 1: buy the lumber. Ass can Tom into finally giving me
- 20:17Speaker 1: the lumber? Call Megan, she's got the ideas.
- 20:19Speaker 2: I mean, I just and then the whole plowing scene.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Oh yes, I have a lot of thoughts.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Will you go ahead? I'm annoyed. The theme of this
- 20:32Speaker 2: episode is annoyed.
- 20:33Speaker 1: I'm annoyed that Tom let's Rebecca Guess rock Bottom.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Push to literal exhaustion before.
- 20:42Speaker 1: Saying you in, I'll give you the lumber. I can't
- 20:48Speaker 1: make sense of this. I know she's stubborn and he's
- 20:52Speaker 1: stubborn too, but we had to get all those tears
- 20:56Speaker 1: before he offers her some grace for everything she's done
- 21:00Speaker 1: for the town shows up and she first of all,
- 21:03Speaker 1: she treated him medically. Then she treats his right hand
- 21:06Speaker 1: man medically.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Has she not proven herself to you? She's showing up for.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Nash and Peggy and their family in other ways as well.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Request yes, uh huh, she's done enough. You don't need
- 21:20Speaker 1: to put her literally into the mud. I understand that
- 21:23Speaker 1: it was her idea. I get that, but I'm not
- 21:28Speaker 1: going to give you the lumber because I need it
- 21:30Speaker 1: to build my fence. That doesn't make any sense, I
- 21:34Speaker 1: mean because ultimately he does so obviously that couldn't have been.
- 21:38Speaker 1: I just was like, how did this come to be?
- 21:41Speaker 1: How did she have to beg him to allow her
- 21:44Speaker 1: to plow his field in order for him to give
- 21:49Speaker 1: her just She's done so much for all.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Of these people.
- 21:55Speaker 1: My next wish is about Tom's character. Oh, I say
- 22:00Speaker 1: this because I love Benjamin Ayers. Right now, I don't
- 22:04Speaker 1: understand if Tom is a good guy with a soft
- 22:07Speaker 1: center or is he stubborn.
- 22:09Speaker 2: And emotionally closed off?
- 22:11Speaker 1: Like pick a lane here?
- 22:13Speaker 2: Mmmm?
- 22:14Speaker 1: He seems like a nice guy sometimes sometimes, but also like,
- 22:20Speaker 1: I ugh, are you a good guy? Are you just
- 22:24Speaker 1: rough around at what?
- 22:25Speaker 2: What? What?
- 22:27Speaker 1: Like? It makes it? It makes him unlikable and I'd
- 22:31Speaker 1: love Benjamin Ayers. I know we were talking about an
- 22:34Speaker 1: actor versus a character, but like, I am leaning good
- 22:37Speaker 1: guy with the soft center, but the stubbornness does rear
- 22:41Speaker 1: its head, and I wonder if that's just a result
- 22:43Speaker 1: of he's kind of been the guy.
- 22:46Speaker 2: For so long?
- 22:48Speaker 1: Okay, fair, and I think Rebecca is maybe the first
- 22:53Speaker 1: person who has challenged that on any real level, because
- 22:57Speaker 1: he has Hattie, who is a strong woman. But Hattie
- 23:02Speaker 1: works as a support system. Yeah yeah, Hattie's not working
- 23:05Speaker 1: against him. And even though she does supply the Prospectors,
- 23:11Speaker 1: she also supplies Tom. You know, she's part of She's
- 23:15Speaker 1: a necessary part of the town. I think I think
- 23:20Speaker 1: Tom just doesn't know what to do with Rebecca. I
- 23:22Speaker 1: think Rebecca's the first real challenge she's had, and that
- 23:26Speaker 1: perhaps the biggest sign that the change that they're experiencing
- 23:31Speaker 1: here in Hope Valley is not temporary.
- 23:33Speaker 2: Okay, but I agree He's he's They're both he and
- 23:38Speaker 2: Rebecca are both so hard headed. Right.
- 23:42Speaker 1: But to further this conversation, it made me realize, while
- 23:46Speaker 1: I was watching this episode, I'm like, I don't know
- 23:48Speaker 1: any Tom.
- 23:49Speaker 2: Who are you? I don't we don't know anything about Tom,
- 23:52Speaker 2: right right.
- 23:52Speaker 1: That's so I was looking at his house and I
- 23:54Speaker 1: was like, wait a minute, right that as he'd been
- 23:56Speaker 1: alive this whole time.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Nice pick up.
- 23:58Speaker 1: There's just no backstory. We're several episodes in, we know
- 24:01Speaker 1: nothing really about him. Give me something about like how
- 24:08Speaker 1: I got here. I don't care if it's that conversation
- 24:11Speaker 1: between Hattie and Rebecca about like, oh, I know you
- 24:14Speaker 1: don't know this about Tom, but blah blah blah blah.
- 24:16Speaker 1: You know what I mean, like he was burned before
- 24:18Speaker 1: because whatever, I need something to justify the prospect.
- 24:23Speaker 2: No, I just need.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Something to justify who Tom is, and then maybe I
- 24:27Speaker 1: will have a better understanding because right now it's like,
- 24:29Speaker 1: why are you such a hard ass all the time?
- 24:32Speaker 1: But then like it's a little bit he'll show some
- 24:35Speaker 1: like softness, but then like he's a jerk again. Here's
- 24:40Speaker 1: my next gripe. Watching Olivia fawn over the Constable, I
- 24:47Speaker 1: cannot stand well.
- 24:48Speaker 2: I had in my notes to ask you, are you
- 24:51Speaker 2: team Clayton, our team Constable?
- 24:52Speaker 1: I'm team Clayton. Yeah, me too, simply because I mean
- 24:57Speaker 1: they're both seemingly good guys right now. But you know,
- 25:00Speaker 1: we have Vaughn who's like, his name is Vaughn, right?
- 25:03Speaker 2: Is that his last name?
- 25:04Speaker 1: Von?
- 25:04Speaker 2: Probably it's a Constable. I can't Yes, I think you're right.
- 25:08Speaker 1: You know, at the end, he comes back and he's
- 25:09Speaker 1: like telling his big story and she's just so named
- 25:14Speaker 1: by it, and I'm just like gross, Yeah, I really
- 25:18Speaker 1: love that Rebecca went in and was like, I don't
- 25:20Speaker 1: know if this was Rebecca's intent when she's like, Oh,
- 25:23Speaker 1: I need furniture and I'm going to have them work together.
- 25:25Speaker 2: I don't have any idea. I don't have a sense
- 25:27Speaker 2: of that at this point.
- 25:29Speaker 1: But I did like that they were thrown together to
- 25:33Speaker 1: work together for that reason. And I liked that the
- 25:36Speaker 1: Constable kind of leaves looking.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Like, oh, oh, he's got her for the moment, right
- 25:41Speaker 2: I did.
- 25:42Speaker 1: I don't dislike the Constable at all, me neither, but
- 25:46Speaker 1: I I had that same thought in that moment of
- 25:51Speaker 1: she's so caught up in the romance of his adventurous lifestyle,
- 25:55Speaker 1: and I think there's probably.
- 25:57Speaker 2: A point at which that gets old. Perhaps, I don't know.
- 26:02Speaker 2: I think this love triangle may play out for a while.
- 26:05Speaker 1: The reason I think that is we don't watch One
- 26:08Speaker 1: Calls the Heart. But I do know that Aaron Craco's character,
- 26:11Speaker 1: her character's been pulled in multiple different directions, and the
- 26:13Speaker 1: love triangles that all has really divided the fans. Do
- 26:16Speaker 1: you think they're just copying paste?
- 26:17Speaker 2: I wonder it's worked for ten years. I wonder I
- 26:21Speaker 2: don't want to do that.
- 26:22Speaker 1: I don't want to do that. And I just cannot
- 26:24Speaker 1: stand to watch Olivia be like so puppy dog like,
- 26:29Speaker 1: and then what happened, Oh my god, your mom is
- 26:35Speaker 1: like Pattie is like a badass bitch.
- 26:37Speaker 2: I'm like, stop it very irritating. Are you ready to
- 26:42Speaker 2: talk to you to see that? I am okay.
- 26:45Speaker 1: When Rebecca shows up to plow the muddy field, Yeah,
- 26:50Speaker 1: she's in like these bright yellow like what looked like
- 26:53Speaker 1: modern rain boots.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Oh like she got a hunter boot on underneath those trousers. Totally.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I like over, Oh they were like yellow. So I
- 27:01Speaker 1: had it like Google, I googled were there rubber boots
- 27:05Speaker 1: in eighteen seventy four? They said it wouldn't be like
- 27:08Speaker 1: what we know today. You're not throwing it on this
- 27:11Speaker 1: like rubber rain boot. They would have been more of
- 27:13Speaker 1: like a flap to cover, like a cowboy boot or
- 27:15Speaker 1: whatever to protect. She rolls up in like wellies basically,
- 27:21Speaker 1: and they were yellow. There's like no way, there's no way,
- 27:24Speaker 1: it said, like Google told me it would be like
- 27:26Speaker 1: muted colors. Where'd she get those, hattie HATTI just had
- 27:31Speaker 1: them in the trading post. Maybe I don't know.
- 27:37Speaker 2: My other.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Complaint in the digit see that column is the dialogue. Again,
- 27:45Speaker 1: we have two issues in two issues. Two examples when
- 27:51Speaker 1: the roof falls in was his face says so many cricket.
- 27:55Speaker 1: I googled Jimmy cricket was not a phrase that would
- 27:58Speaker 1: have been used in eighteen seventy four. That came along
- 28:03Speaker 1: later in the nineteen hundreds, especially with the rise of Pinocchio.
- 28:08Speaker 1: They said, like Jimmy cricket would have been liken to
- 28:12Speaker 1: like Jesus Christ, you know, But in eighteen seventy four
- 28:16Speaker 1: in the Frontier would have been like oh my Lord,
- 28:19Speaker 1: or yeah, yeah, yeah, you know, not Jimmy cricket. The
- 28:23Speaker 1: other phrase is when the other Mounty guy said, you
- 28:28Speaker 1: really saved my bacon. Oh, yes, that phrase is a
- 28:32Speaker 1: twentieth century phrase. Literally, I googled this stuff. I mean,
- 28:36Speaker 1: this is what Google told me. Now, if there are
- 28:38Speaker 1: some like language people out there who say, when doy
- 28:43Speaker 1: you're wrong, please email me hello at Girls Gone Homework
- 28:46Speaker 1: dot com. But I've talked about this for weeks. Like
- 28:50Speaker 1: one of my biggest beefs is Rebecca speaks to modern
- 28:54Speaker 1: but I can't accept that she's a city gal. Yeah,
- 28:58Speaker 1: I mean, they're really leaning hard in her talk about
- 29:00Speaker 1: it a lot in this episode, right, But I have
- 29:03Speaker 1: complained about other sure phrases they've used that would not
- 29:07Speaker 1: fit this timeframe. I have a couple tiny little digitsy.
- 29:11Speaker 1: That's one is Rebecca says I'm going to need some trousers.
- 29:13Speaker 1: It's giving the same energy as look at me in
- 29:15Speaker 1: my pants.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:18Speaker 1: Also, something about Rebecca saying quitning is not an option.
- 29:21Speaker 1: There's nothing particularly dynamic about that phrase, but it.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Has stuck with me. When she just it felt like, you.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Know, quinning is not an option, feels like one of
- 29:30Speaker 1: those phrases like there's no crying in baseball.
- 29:32Speaker 2: It feels throwaway.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Yeah, but at the same time, it feels like Rebecca
- 29:36Speaker 1: really means it, like that's not a choice that I have.
- 29:40Speaker 1: I have got to survive. And so yes, I am
- 29:44Speaker 1: going to be out here, breaking my back in the mud,
- 29:47Speaker 1: plowing this field. If this is what it's going to
- 29:49Speaker 1: take for this stubborn ass man to finally sell me
- 29:52Speaker 1: the damn lumber. Right, Why can't she like get she
- 29:55Speaker 1: has a horse and a wagon, right, Yeah, Why can't
- 29:58Speaker 1: she travel to go get someone? It's too expensive and
- 30:01Speaker 1: guy was gonna bring it but it's too expensive.
- 30:05Speaker 2: Do you have any other did you see that? Vince?
- 30:07Speaker 1: I no, okay, I have two questions. Okay, one is
- 30:11Speaker 1: kind of a hot take. Oh and I say this lovingly,
- 30:14Speaker 1: huh oh. But I wonder if Benjamin Ayers is a
- 30:18Speaker 1: miscast here.
- 30:20Speaker 2: I don't think so, tell me why I say more.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Going into this series, I was like, I like when
- 30:25Speaker 1: he's funny.
- 30:26Speaker 2: He's funny.
- 30:27Speaker 1: He's funny, and I said earlier in this episode, like
- 30:29Speaker 1: he has some throwaway lines that is very charming. Maybe
- 30:36Speaker 1: I just feel like this character of Tom needs to
- 30:39Speaker 1: be rougher, lou do you have a vision of who
- 30:45Speaker 1: that is?
- 30:46Speaker 2: I don't.
- 30:46Speaker 1: I can't put my finger on it. Maybe someone a
- 30:49Speaker 1: little bit older too, But.
- 30:53Speaker 2: Don't you think he and Bethany Joy are similar in age? Probably?
- 30:57Speaker 1: I don't know somebody who's just maybe he has Benjamin
- 31:02Speaker 1: Ayers who is not Tom Moore, but he has daughters
- 31:06Speaker 1: similar in age to Bethany joy Lands or to Rebecca's
- 31:10Speaker 1: to Sarah.
- 31:10Speaker 2: And yeah, true, I don't know. I hear you.
- 31:16Speaker 1: You know, personally, I like Benjamin Air's in this role.
- 31:20Speaker 1: I know, I love funny Benjamin Air's too, love him,
- 31:25Speaker 1: But I kind of am liking this, this gruff Benjamin Airs.
- 31:29Speaker 2: And I'm hoping that when we do get the eventual softening,
- 31:34Speaker 2: that it's that much more rewarding.
- 31:36Speaker 1: Okay, I will hold out, Okay, I will hold out.
- 31:40Speaker 1: My next question is the airs heads are going to
- 31:45Speaker 1: come for you though I'm not trying truly, Please know
- 31:48Speaker 1: that it comes from a place of love, because I.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Enjoy him so much.
- 31:53Speaker 1: As an actor.
- 31:56Speaker 2: I had a person yeah and yeah. So I'm just like,
- 31:59Speaker 2: is this.
- 32:01Speaker 1: And it might not be him, it might just be
- 32:03Speaker 1: the character yet I have talked about. I'm like, who
- 32:06Speaker 1: is this character? So I'm going to give it some
- 32:08Speaker 1: more time. I'll definitely give it some more time. My
- 32:10Speaker 1: next question before we wrap up is what is one
- 32:13Speaker 1: task Rebecca hasn't done yet that she will probably do
- 32:15Speaker 1: in the next episode. Oh?
- 32:17Speaker 2: Well, she's the cook, she's the doctor, she's the contractor.
- 32:23Speaker 2: I mean, she's not panning for gold yet, not yet.
- 32:26Speaker 1: I get her feet what maybe why wouldn't she just
- 32:29Speaker 1: go out and give it a chance?
- 32:31Speaker 2: Right? I was as I was saying that, I was like,
- 32:33Speaker 2: why isn't she.
- 32:34Speaker 1: I mean, she's so hard up for some cash, so
- 32:37Speaker 1: get out in that river, make your kids go outside
- 32:41Speaker 1: in said Sarah down there with Jenny, maybe it's not safe.
- 32:46Speaker 1: They shouldn't make it more like a dangerous place.
- 32:51Speaker 2: Yeah, it certainly didn't seem dangerous when Lars was like
- 32:53Speaker 2: s living inside and the rocks.
- 32:56Speaker 1: I mean like danger like the people that's drawing too,
- 32:59Speaker 1: Like the prospectors out there are you know, dangerous, dangerous people.
- 33:03Speaker 1: So you wouldn't let a child go down there, or
- 33:05Speaker 1: you wouldn't let a woman down there. Yeah, but that's
- 33:08Speaker 1: that's the thing that I don't understand because Lara's wife,
- 33:11Speaker 1: she's the only woman we see other than that prospector's daughter.
- 33:16Speaker 1: I can't think of. Her name doesn't matter, you know
- 33:18Speaker 1: who I'm talking about. There's not a lot of women
- 33:20Speaker 1: in the camp, and I wonder.
- 33:21Speaker 2: How safe it is for them. I don't know. But
- 33:24Speaker 2: Lar's like this, like real soft, nu good of a human,
- 33:28Speaker 2: and he has his wife and his baby there, so
- 33:30Speaker 2: it can't be. They don't.
- 33:31Speaker 1: They're certainly not portraying that they're in any sort of
- 33:33Speaker 1: danger or that they're in living in fear. That's what
- 33:36Speaker 1: I think they should though, Like Wayne says, let's let's
- 33:39Speaker 1: lean into the grit a little bit more. Yeah, all right,
- 33:42Speaker 1: thank you for listening to this episode of Girls Gone Hallmark.
- 33:44Speaker 2: We will be back next time with more reviews. Goodbye, bye.
- 33:59Speaker 1: All right friends, before we go, just a quick heads up,
- 34:02Speaker 1: you're about to hear some ads. These little jones help
- 34:04Speaker 1: us keep the show running and the Hallmark love flowing.
- 34:07Speaker 1: So do with that info what you will, Grab a snack,
- 34:10Speaker 1: hit the skip button, or maybe just maybe listen in
- 34:14Speaker 1: and discover your new favorite product.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Bye.
