Transcript
- 0:00Along this latest stretch of his journey as he passed through from Western Washington
- 0:07into Oregon, he left a note at a Raymond Animal Hospital that read, "Drove By Had Some
- 0:14Extra Cash Please Use This Money For The Care Of The Animals."
- 0:19He signed it, "Colton Harris Moore In parentheses, aka The Barefoot Bandit, Kameno Island Washington."
- 0:26Ever heard of me? Ever heard of her?
- 0:29Hi Cassie. Hi Caitlyn. Hi creepy people. Hello! Hello! I've never really thought about it.
- 0:46I don't know why we wave, but I kind of like it. We wave because we're on camera now, so now we can wave to the camera and people on YouTube and Patreon see us.
- 0:55We feel like it's just like we don't know what to do with our hands.
- 0:58Well, we used to wave when we didn't have cameras, so that made no sense. That's true. True story guys.
- 1:05But now if you want to see us waving back at you, go to YouTube, join Patreon, add free, do the things, do all the things.
- 1:13Yeah. What do we weigh? Who are we? Yeah. We're going to get back to that, okay?
- 1:19It feels like pretty on-brand to just have an aside in the second sentence of the intro. That's just who we are.
- 1:28Five seconds in. It's fine. If you don't like that leaf, now get out now.
- 1:33How are you so glad?
- 1:34This is PNW Haunts and Homicides, where we chat about true crime, the paranormal.
- 1:44And all things spooky, we're going to do something spooky after recording today.
- 1:50Yes, we are. In the Pacific Northwest.
- 1:54I'm wearing this special cemetery necklace just for our little outing later.
- 1:59You know what else we do in these episodes?
- 2:03What?
- 2:04Tero readings at the end, just so we can get a little deeper insight into what we're talking about for the day.
- 2:11Yeah. That thing. It's fun. That old gal.
- 2:17All right. Are you ready?
- 2:20I have wine.
- 2:23Chapstick. Water. I think I'm prepared.
- 2:27I had to make sure I had my chapstick. Got the water.
- 2:30Okay. Yeah. We got all the necessities.
- 2:33Necessities?
- 2:35Yes. And we already said, "Asside your goodies for our other new show coming soonish."
- 2:42What?
- 2:43What?
- 2:44Is this breaking news right now? Are you just dropping this bomb on everybody?
- 2:48I feel like we've hinted at it.
- 2:50Kind of. I don't think we've actually said it was a new show.
- 2:54No. We haven't.
- 2:55Stay tuned.
- 2:58Stay tuned.
- 2:59Stay Titty-Tunid.
- 3:02Wow. Really on one with the titties today.
- 3:04I like titties. All right.
- 3:06She's all about it.
- 3:08Wow.
- 3:10All right. Look at her. She's getting a after it.
- 3:12Okay. We can get the sillies out.
- 3:14All right. And then we'll go to your probably serious episode.
- 3:18Well, it's not to say that this is a completely unserious episode, but it's a little bit more like-hearted.
- 3:27Okay. Well, I love that.
- 3:29Yeah. I like to.
- 3:31Do a little bit of this, a little bit of that.
- 3:34All right.
- 3:35Today, we're talking about someone who became somewhat of a folk hero during his teenage years.
- 3:41A modern-day teen Houdini.
- 3:44Oh, okay.
- 3:46I'm very intrigued.
- 3:48There's no magic involved.
- 3:50Oh, yeah.
- 3:51Well, okay. Why would you bring up Houdini if there's no magic?
- 3:54I don't- that was just one of the nicknames that they gave him.
- 3:57So, Colton Harris Moore, also known as the Barefoot Bandit or Barefoot Burglar.
- 4:06Okay.
- 4:08Colton's story is one of adrenaline, reckless crime sprees, and some truly jaw-dropping crash landings and escapes.
- 4:19Okay.
- 4:21So buckle up like you're strapped in on a Boeing jet.
- 4:25Oh, God.
- 4:27I don't know if I want to be strapped in on a Boeing jet.
- 4:29I think I want a good escape, escape, escape plan.
- 4:32Yeah.
- 4:34This is sounding like DB Cooper.
- 4:37I can't say that there aren't maybe slight similarities, but...
- 4:43Yeah.
- 4:44Okay. I'm excited for this one.
- 4:46Yeah. I thought you would really like this one.
- 4:48In addition to digging through everything I could find online,
- 4:52I watched the Barefoot Bandit documentary as part of my research for this case.
- 4:58Ooh.
- 4:59Which is actually kind of cool.
- 5:02They do like part animated, like reenactment type scenes and stuff.
- 5:07Oh.
- 5:08Yeah.
- 5:09There are some instances where they have like live action, like real actors doing reenactments of things as well,
- 5:18which I will say makes it a little bit confusing at first to try to figure out, like,
- 5:24wait, is that real footage?
- 5:26Oh.
- 5:27But I really liked it.
- 5:29I really, really liked it.
- 5:31Colton's criminal activity began early.
- 5:34He was born to parents with addiction issues,
- 5:37and seemingly not a lot of resources.
- 5:40That's unfortunate.
- 5:41Yeah, it's not a great compo.
- 5:43Yeah.
- 5:44But I feel like usually that's how that patterns out.
- 5:47Locals were shocked when they realized that it was none other than 10-year-old Colton Harris Moore,
- 5:53who'd broken into the Stanwood Elementary School on Camano Island.
- 5:5910 years old.
- 6:00Yeah.
- 6:01Oh my God.
- 6:02I can't even imagine trying to break into something when I was 10.
- 6:05Yeah.
- 6:06He was even known to hit hike at this tender age.
- 6:10Oh.
- 6:11I mean, I feel like living on an island in the Puget Sound at this point, probably that was,
- 6:20I mean, still not a safe thing to do.
- 6:22It wasn't safe to do, like, five decades prior, even, but yeah, but like in that sort of a smaller,
- 6:30more rural community.
- 6:32So young.
- 6:33I know.
- 6:34When Colton was still a young child, his dad began an awful cycle of coming and going,
- 6:40returning and then leaving again, which is not super healthy just because obviously I think
- 6:49whether you're a child or not, most people crave a little bit of stability in their life.
- 6:55Yeah.
- 6:56Especially kids.
- 6:57They need that.
- 6:58Yeah.
- 6:59Yeah.
- 7:00Yeah.
- 7:01Yeah.
- 7:02Absolutely.
- 7:03Eventually, his father stepped completely out of the picture.
- 7:05He was a heavy drinker.
- 7:12Not so subtly hinting at alcoholism as a factor for their unstable home life.
- 7:15Well, it's probably got a good thing that he left.
- 7:18I mean, yeah.
- 7:19The whole thing.
- 7:20Yeah.
- 7:21There's, it's kind of one of those things where like is it worse for the kid to grow up in
- 7:26an environment where someone is maybe having outbursts or they're seeing things related to,
- 7:33you know, issues with substances that they can't really process or is it better to deal with
- 7:40that, you know, the potential abandonment or I don't know.
- 7:44None of it's good.
- 7:45No.
- 7:46No.
- 7:47And you know what?
- 7:48We don't even have time to unpack it because my notes are super long today.
- 7:51I know.
- 7:52I mean, I don't want to unpack it.
- 7:54So it's fine.
- 7:55Yeah.
- 7:56You're like, okay, moving on.
- 7:57Just like, I'm a sad.
- 7:58I know.
- 7:59Ultimately, Colton was raised by a single mother in a mobile home on the island.
- 8:06It may be that keeping himself fed was the initial or at least the primary driver to start
- 8:11with when it came to his criminal career as a kid.
- 8:16But it doesn't seem like we should write off shits and giggles or run of the mill rebellion
- 8:22in the face of an unstable home environment as sort of contributing factors.
- 8:27Yeah.
- 8:28And not to say that that's an excuse per se, but, you know, we talk about this a lot where
- 8:35it's like understanding where this person is coming from and their background.
- 8:40Yeah.
- 8:41You know, we can figure out ways to maybe, okay, how do we make that not a thing?
- 8:46Yeah.
- 8:47Yeah.
- 8:48But I feel like a lot of kids go through that thing where they're a little rebellious.
- 8:51Maybe they break into places here and there.
- 8:55Probably mostly like abandoned places, but I don't know.
- 8:59Abandoned places that can be really dangerous.
- 9:01Well, yes, so dangerous.
- 9:02But I'm just like, not for the intent of like harming anybody is kind of what I'm getting
- 9:07at.
- 9:08It's like, I feel like some kids are rebellious and they do that kind of thing, but they
- 9:10don't turn into like criminals in the end.
- 9:13Yes.
- 9:14Hardened, violent criminals.
- 9:15Yes.
- 9:16That's, I feel like the main priority.
- 9:19Like what's avoid that.
- 9:20Yeah.
- 9:21Please.
- 9:22This public service announcement provided by Insert Sponsor.
- 9:24As a teen dating back to April of 2008, he escaped from a juvenile housing facility in
- 9:32Renton, Washington.
- 9:35By that point, he was already becoming a menace in the region.
- 9:39Moo.
- 9:40Yeah.
- 9:41Not like Dennis the menace, not like in a super cute kind of way.
- 9:45Yeah.
- 9:46That's like, you know, lovable, brosglous.
- 9:48Yeah.
- 9:49Yeah.
- 9:50I wouldn't say harm.
- 9:52Foooo.
- 9:54But also not harmless.
- 9:56Okay.
- 9:57At six foot five and two hundred pounds.
- 10:01Holy sh-
- 10:02Owls.
- 10:03I know.
- 10:05Yeah.
- 10:06I was like, oh, f*ck.
- 10:07That's big.
- 10:09Yeah.
- 10:10Yeah.
- 10:11I think that's why when I read that, I was a little bit confused because the reenactment actor
- 10:17that they had in some of the documentary clips.
- 10:20I was like, that kid, I guess that's why I.
- 10:22Wow.
- 10:23So when I read that, I was like, okay.
- 10:25Probably hard to find.
- 10:27Right?
- 10:28Right?
- 10:29This green eyed and now a well versed if barefoot burglar from Camano Island.
- 10:35Colton wasn't your average runaway.
- 10:37Doesn't sound like it.
- 10:39No.
- 10:40He’s in like the 90th percentile for height.
- 10:44I'm just kidding.
- 10:45I was just thinking, I'm like, he's like a kid.
- 10:48I feel like I think about it in terms of like, you know, like a pediatrician.
- 10:51I'm like, oh my god.
- 10:52Yeah.
- 10:53You're going to keep growing like he's like, I don't think so.
- 10:55I think he probably talked out at that point.
- 10:58I don't know.
- 10:59Thus began the period that Colton, the barefoot burglar, lived on the lamb, camping in the woods
- 11:06primarily, lived on the lamb.
- 11:09Mm-hmm.
- 11:10What is on the lamb?
- 11:11What does that mean?
- 11:12You just, it's like running from the law.
- 11:15That's an old-timey way of saying they were like outlaws.
- 11:18That's interesting.
- 11:19Like what?
- 11:20I can't even picture like where that saying even came from.
- 11:22Like what does that even mean?
- 11:24Mom the lamb, doll.
- 11:26I don't get it.
- 11:30I feel like I definitely used that before in a case.
- 11:33Not just Gloucester, but I probably wasn't saying attention.
- 11:36That was where I was dissociating.
- 11:40I just want to make sure you cut onto the fact other than lived on the lamb.
- 11:45He was camping in the woods of the island.
- 11:50I thought you were saying lived off the land.
- 11:53I wonder if that's what I just feel like a chill man.
- 11:56I don't, I don't, computer.
- 11:59Okay, camping.
- 12:01Yeah.
- 12:02Not a good place to camp, I feel like.
- 12:04I feel like, you know, it's similar in terms of like the climate and everything from here.
- 12:09It wasn't cold.
- 12:10Yeah, I would say arguably quite a bit wetter.
- 12:15Yeah.
- 12:16Way more wetter-er.
- 12:17I guess I don't know what time it will be here, but I just-
- 12:21Largely during like kind of the milder months of like spring and summer, but I mean this
- 12:27lasted more than- more than two seasons.
- 12:31Let me say.
- 12:32Wow.
- 12:33Okay.
- 12:34It lasted for quite some time.
- 12:36He had a particular set of skills and apparently detested footwear, like a bizarre mashup
- 12:42of Liam Neeson and Mowgli.
- 12:44Oh, okay.
- 12:45I feel like he was definitely probably neurospicy then.
- 12:49I think so.
- 12:50Yeah.
- 12:51Yeah, I think there's some spice in there.
- 12:52That's a thing.
- 12:53Yeah.
- 12:54Not diagnosing, but yeah.
- 12:55Sounds a little spicy.
- 12:58The skills section of his resume included breaking into homes and businesses, stealing credit
- 13:03cards and using them to purchase all sorts of things.
- 13:08GPS devices, bear mace, because you don't know if you're camping out.
- 13:14And because he's a teenage boy, we know that there had to be some porn in the mix, right?
- 13:20Couple playboys.
- 13:22That detail didn't always get a lot of playtime in the nightly news, but kind of cracked me
- 13:27up.
- 13:28I felt like I came across like sources that at least hinted at it or people in the documentary
- 13:34that like we're making kind of like joking comments about it.
- 13:37And I was like, yeah, he's a teenage boy with a credit card.
- 13:42Like, necessitated.
- 13:44Wow.
- 13:45It all circles back.
- 13:47So he definitely could afford shoes.
- 13:49He just couldn't.
- 13:50He chose not to wear the shoes.
- 13:52Yeah.
- 13:53Yeah.
- 13:54Yeah.
- 13:55He could afford some shoes.
- 13:56He could have had Jimmy choose.
- 13:59Not in the woods, you can't.
- 14:00I mean, I feel like they make other types of footwear fancy, but maybe not with like a
- 14:06siletto.
- 14:07Anyways, that's beyond that.
- 14:08Yeah.
- 14:09It's not the point.
- 14:11Eventually all the staples one would need to turn a tree house into a tree home.
- 14:17Just a few things that he needed to survive in the dense woods of rural Washington.
- 14:23A live laugh love sign for his tree home.
- 14:25Obviously.
- 14:26Obviously.
- 14:27Colton and a friend and I swear to God, I am not making this name up.
- 14:33He's one of the talking heads.
- 14:34He has the lower fifth.
- 14:36He's got the, you know, the title.
- 14:38Like this is, this is his name allegedly.
- 14:42But it out.
- 14:44Harley Davidson Ironwing.
- 14:48Wow.
- 14:49I like the Ironwing part.
- 14:51That's pretty cool.
- 14:52I know it sounds like Game of Thrones.
- 14:54Yeah.
- 14:55Colton and a friend, Harley Davidson Ironwing, formed a burglary team.
- 15:01And soon enough, Colton's exploits earned him a catchy nickname from the media.
- 15:08It's unclear who exactly dubbed him Teen Houdini.
- 15:11But news channel reporters, Marley Genter of Como 4 and Rob Pierci of King V's reporting
- 15:18would feature the nickname.
- 15:19Wow.
- 15:20They said it.
- 15:21I don't know.
- 15:22Houdini.
- 15:23Houdini.
- 15:24Oh.
- 15:25Houdini.
- 15:26Teen Houdini.
- 15:27Such a missed opportunity.
- 15:28Kind of felt like a martini though.
- 15:30Yeah.
- 15:31So inappropriate.
- 15:32For his situation probably.
- 15:36I mean, yeah.
- 15:39I guess it's not as bad as moniker's go, but I think it also sends a message about the
- 15:44level of threat he was perceived to pose at least maybe initially.
- 15:49So that made him sound less threatening than he actually was?
- 15:53I feel like it was a little bit making light of it because it doesn't imply necessarily
- 15:57criminality.
- 15:58It's more like you say Houdini, I think dare double.
- 16:02Perhaps a bit cheeky.
- 16:03Yeah.
- 16:04You know?
- 16:05I feel like he's not typically associated with true crime.
- 16:09Right.
- 16:10I don't know.
- 16:11I mean, let me know if there's something I should know about Houdini.
- 16:14I feel like there's some stuff about Houdini.
- 16:16I like sketchy.
- 16:17I don't know.
- 16:18I can't remember what it is, but there's something.
- 16:21I feel like there are some things.
- 16:22I wait.
- 16:23Did he die trying to escape one of his things?
- 16:26I think so.
- 16:27Okay.
- 16:28Maybe that's one of them.
- 16:29Yeah, maybe.
- 16:30Yeah.
- 16:31Like someone locked him in there.
- 16:32And like someone did something shady to him.
- 16:33Something shady.
- 16:34However, the toning coverage would change over time as Colton would go on to elude the
- 16:42authorities for roughly two years from this point forward.
- 16:47Wow.
- 16:48That's a long time.
- 16:49Yeah.
- 16:50Pretty successful on that whole run in a way and escaping the love.
- 16:54That whole living on this lamb thing.
- 16:59That's almost as long as the three-year sentence that he was supposed to be serving at
- 17:04the time in that transitional juvenile detention facility.
- 17:08Oh, he escaped.
- 17:10Yeah.
- 17:11That's where he escaped from.
- 17:13And yeah.
- 17:14Wow.
- 17:15So Colton and Harley would take a vehicle at one of the island vacation homes that they'd
- 17:22broken into for joy rides.
- 17:24Here's the thing.
- 17:25If you fuel it up, put it back in the exact right spot and maybe even do a little light
- 17:29detailing.
- 17:31Which apparently they did, the person might not notice.
- 17:35Also I might not mind if you borrowed my car occasionally at that point.
- 17:39Right.
- 17:40If you're going to clean it and fill it up.
- 17:42But I also don't drive a brand new Mercedes-Benz.
- 17:45Wow.
- 17:46So that was really nice and considerate of them though.
- 17:49I think they were just trying not to get caught.
- 17:51Yeah.
- 17:52I could see that.
- 17:53Yeah.
- 17:54Such a nice boy.
- 17:55I know.
- 17:56Such sweet boys.
- 17:57Very polite.
- 17:58Very jimure.
- 17:59So mindful.
- 18:00So mindful.
- 18:01So jimure.
- 18:02Right.
- 18:03Mindful.
- 18:04I don't know.
- 18:05I don't know the words you guys.
- 18:06I don't take talk.
- 18:07I don't take talk.
- 18:08One of the primary areas where he operated other than Camino Island where he was originally
- 18:14from was the East Sound, a village on Orchist Island.
- 18:19Ooh.
- 18:20You love you some Orchist Island.
- 18:22That's so funny because that's literally what I was going to say.
- 18:25This is a place that I know and love.
- 18:27Orchist truly spent much of her youth around the holidays and particularly during the
- 18:31lovely summer months in this very place.
- 18:34No.
- 18:35You have to take me there someday.
- 18:36I know.
- 18:37Okay.
- 18:38You'll love this next part.
- 18:39The deer on the island are adorable.
- 18:43Oh.
- 18:44They're deer, right?
- 18:45Not deer.
- 18:46No.
- 18:47They're actual deer.
- 18:48They're just tiny.
- 18:49They're so small.
- 18:50Oh.
- 18:51Watching them eat the crab apples off the lawn at my grandparents' place is a very fond
- 18:57memory.
- 18:58Oh.
- 18:59Along with card games and you know, they went on for hours, holiday meals, everyone seated
- 19:05around the living room and dining room that those sizeables they might have been.
- 19:11Oftentimes felt too small for an Irish Catholic family and all of their progeny.
- 19:15Oh, you're really painting a picture right now.
- 19:18Yeah.
- 19:19Very nice.
- 19:20Good night.
- 19:21Leading into the holidays.
- 19:22I know.
- 19:23Okay.
- 19:24So here's the weird thing.
- 19:25I'm not even going to mention this, but I feel like I have to know.
- 19:27It was a sign.
- 19:29I decided just now.
- 19:32We never really did Turkey for Thanksgiving when we went up to the island.
- 19:36Oh.
- 19:37Yeah.
- 19:38Weird, right?
- 19:39We did land.
- 19:40Oh.
- 19:41And it's because my paternal grandmother developed an allergy to Turkey as an adult.
- 19:47Wow.
- 19:48And it wasn't that it's wild because I feel like I don't know.
- 19:52We didn't really have anything else that was like, I don't know, a deviation from kind
- 19:57of the traditional meal plan or whatever for holidays and stuff, but that was one thing
- 20:03we always did different.
- 20:05We also had so many, like my dad is one of like nine and they all went on to just procreate
- 20:13like it was their mission.
- 20:15So there's so many of us.
- 20:17So I remember we did Thanksgiving one year where we had Turkey, ham, lamb, and I think there
- 20:24might have been something else.
- 20:25I can't even remember what.
- 20:27What?
- 20:28Yeah.
- 20:29Lamb sounds good though.
- 20:30Oh, my grandma is such a good cook.
- 20:33She makes a really, I've never had it for obvious reasons, but not the lamb.
- 20:38I do eat that.
- 20:40But she makes a chocolate cream pie that everybody says is to die for.
- 20:45Honestly, I want to get the recipe just because even if I won't eat it, I feel like I need
- 20:50a need that card in my back pocket.
- 20:52You know what I mean?
- 20:53I probably wouldn't need it because it's got like whipped cream in it, right?
- 20:56I think usually you whip like chocolate pudding and whipped cream basically together.
- 21:00I'm not a whipped cream person.
- 21:02I don't know.
- 21:03I'm not even that much of a chocolate person.
- 21:05Yeah.
- 21:06I think that's why we like each other so much.
- 21:07And that's, yeah, that's the only thing we haven't common.
- 21:10That's how this started.
- 21:13That's interesting lamb and then living off the lamb and...
- 21:17Oh yeah.
- 21:18So many synchronicities.
- 21:19There you go.
- 21:21Anyway, all of this is to say, I remember at the time family members expressing concern about
- 21:27my aging grandparents living in an isolated part of this very island as all of this was
- 21:34occurring.
- 21:35Oh, really?
- 21:36Yes.
- 21:37Wow.
- 21:38And other than that, I only recall occasionally catching brief snippets about Colton and his
- 21:45crimes on the news.
- 21:47I do remember seeing something about Teen Houdini in real time, but that's cool.
- 21:53I don't remember any of it.
- 21:58I remember seeing it when we were up on the island.
- 22:02I don't know that you would have seen it in the news as much here in Portland.
- 22:06Okay.
- 22:07But while he was still on Orchist Island, at least.
- 22:11Right.
- 22:12Because he's like on an island.
- 22:13So how far could he get?
- 22:15Oh, well.
- 22:17And then he said, hold my beer.
- 22:19Hold my lamb.
- 22:20I want you to remember that you said that.
- 22:22Okay.
- 22:23Hold my lamb, child.
- 22:27Meanwhile, Colton, who's the same age as my younger brother.
- 22:31So early 30s now, but at the time, obviously we're talking about his teenage years.
- 22:37We're literally born within two months of each other in the same year.
- 22:40Wow.
- 22:41I was like, okay, I know exactly what was very familiar.
- 22:47Spent a lot of time with a kid just like you.
- 22:51Did your brother wear shoes?
- 22:53My brother did wear shoes.
- 22:54He was known to Don footwear when it was necessary.
- 22:59At least there's that.
- 23:00Yeah.
- 23:01So that's really where they deviate the harsh ones.
- 23:04The harsh ones.
- 23:05Yeah.
- 23:06So meanwhile, Colton, who's the same age as my younger brother, was getting up to some
- 23:11stiff like stealing an infrared camera from a local island fire station seemingly with
- 23:18the sole purpose of using it to scope out homes before burglaries.
- 23:21That's creepy.
- 23:22I know.
- 23:23So you can tell if people are in the house because a lot of people have vacation properties
- 23:27on these islands.
- 23:28I was like, was he going to go ghost hunting?
- 23:31No.
- 23:32I don't think so.
- 23:33The crazy part though is that fire station was directly across the street from a home that
- 23:39he had burglarized already.
- 23:42Wow.
- 23:43Twice.
- 23:44Holy shit.
- 23:45Well, small island, am I right?
- 23:49How does the infamous Quico?
- 23:50I think something like full me once can't get tricked again.
- 23:55To which Colton said, well, my beer, which I think you're going to find.
- 24:01I will quote him as saying a couple of times, maybe worked to two.
- 24:06I think now hopefully you wasn't drinking alcohol.
- 24:09I have to imagine there is probably a little bit of undraged drinking somewhere along the
- 24:14way.
- 24:15I feel like at a certain point that's small potatoes.
- 24:18I like to think he is much of a criminal as he is.
- 24:21He was like a hard pass on the alcohol.
- 24:24Oh, okay.
- 24:25He's like straight edge.
- 24:26Yeah.
- 24:27Maybe the vibe I'm getting from this guy.
- 24:30Okay.
- 24:31Well, I guess we'll see.
- 24:34But other thing getting carried away by the juvenile version of True Crime Light, it hardly
- 24:41computes that he's making the news based on our story so far.
- 24:45Right?
- 24:46I guess what I'm trying to say is it just doesn't seem crazy newsworthy at this point.
- 24:52Like some burglary happens every day.
- 24:55Yeah.
- 24:56You know, that just doesn't feel like, oh, I'm not going to see that on CNN.
- 25:00Right.
- 25:01You know, local news.
- 25:02Yeah.
- 25:03But yeah.
- 25:04Well, that's because I did one of my favorite things and buried the lead, of course.
- 25:10You guys are so silly.
- 25:12He wasn't just a local kid causing minor problems with his shenanigans though.
- 25:17Colton took his crime spree on the road.
- 25:20I mean, and also or rather to the air.
- 25:25Okay.
- 25:26That's right.
- 25:27In 2010, at the age of 19, he stole a plane and crash landed on an island in the Bahamas.
- 25:38That's really far away.
- 25:39Huh?
- 25:40Though it wasn't his first crash or planes, silly plane theft.
- 25:47In fact, far from it, his fascination with planes wasn't a secret.
- 25:52He'd stolen an infrared camera from a fire station to scope out homes for burglaries.
- 25:57Remember that from like 15 seconds ago, but stealing a plane?
- 26:01That kind of took things to a whole new level.
- 26:05Dude had a major hard on for aviation.
- 26:08Interesting.
- 26:10Fun fact or maybe disturbing fact.
- 26:13Prior to his catching that international flight, Colton had ordered a book titled, How
- 26:19to Fly a plane.
- 26:20Let's go say, how did he even know how to fly it?
- 26:24Having a credit card that he managed to steal somehow from a local restaurant, he even
- 26:29had said book shipped to that same restaurant, which on the surface, I kind of thought was
- 26:36a dummy move, proving that I probably would have needed a masterclass to get away with anything
- 26:42at that age.
- 26:43Yeah.
- 26:44I was like, that's the stupidest thing you could do.
- 26:46And then I was like, oh, actually, that kind.
- 26:48All right.
- 26:49So here's how it plays out.
- 26:52He watched the tracking for the order so that he could ensure he'd be able to grab the
- 26:57loot at an opportune time.
- 26:59He waited until after the restaurant's business hours to break in after close and take his
- 27:04book.
- 27:05Wow.
- 27:06I know.
- 27:08I don't know.
- 27:10That was probably still pretty risky, but who would think that you'd return to the scene
- 27:15of the crime in this case?
- 27:16That's murderer stuff.
- 27:17Man.
- 27:18Yeah.
- 27:19Not just that.
- 27:20I don't know.
- 27:21Is it a computer?
- 27:22Yeah.
- 27:23Wow.
- 27:24Bro, this kid, Roll Savvy in some odd ways.
- 27:28Okay.
- 27:29How do you get internet in the woods?
- 27:31I mean, they're, I don't think they're offering Wi-Fi in the woods, but there are other places
- 27:37that you can go.
- 27:38Oh, Starbucks.
- 27:39Okay.
- 27:40Yeah.
- 27:41Starbees.
- 27:42You might almost think this guy was some evil mastermind plotting his next move.
- 27:48I'm not so sure about that, but his obsession with aviation was real, like a set massive
- 27:53heart on.
- 27:55Obviously, he put these books and manuals that he managed to get his little raccoon hands
- 28:00on to practical use.
- 28:02He was fascinated by airplanes.
- 28:04He had pictures of them up in his room.
- 28:07He drew pictures of them and could rattle off fun facts about planes as he saw them flying
- 28:13overhead.
- 28:14Okay.
- 28:15So this is just cementing the narrow spiciness.
- 28:17I feel like, yeah, of this hyper fixation on airplanes.
- 28:21It's giving the tizamist strong.
- 28:24Yes.
- 28:25Yes.
- 28:26Again, not diagnosing, but I mean, hey, listen.
- 28:30So back to his exploits, like that one time that he casually broke into a safe after ransacking
- 28:36a local store, netting some essential supplies that also roughly $3,000 after beating the
- 28:44safe in.
- 28:45Oh, I was like, how did he learn how to like lock pick a safe?
- 28:49No.
- 28:50In the documentary, you actually see the safe and it's pretty much demolished.
- 28:55Kids of freaking beast.
- 28:56Oh, so how do you beat a safe?
- 28:59Uh-huh.
- 29:00Yeah.
- 29:01With a crowbar, I think.
- 29:04And even still, I...
- 29:06What?
- 29:07You must have had some rage you needed to get out or something.
- 29:11As it could save to say.
- 29:13The crazy thing is, Colton is believed to have been, again, this work.
- 29:22I'm coming back because I just...
- 29:23I couldn't get over this.
- 29:25Essentially living in the woods and occasionally couch surfing.
- 29:29He's living off his exploits and the occasional kindness of others while executing numerous burglaries
- 29:36that would continue to escalate.
- 29:39People police did at times find some of his camping sites in the area.
- 29:44You see quite a few of them in the documentary.
- 29:48Colton's dog.
- 29:49Also, they just dropped that in.
- 29:51Like, he's just hanging out in the woods with a dog that I was like, we're just learning
- 29:55about the dog.
- 29:56Does anyone know the dog's name?
- 29:57What kind of dog?
- 29:58It looked like it was a black lap.
- 30:00I don't know if that's really the kind of dog that he had.
- 30:03But they didn't say his name?
- 30:04No, I don't remember anyone saying the name of the dog.
- 30:08I feel like it was aviation-related.
- 30:10Right?
- 30:11Orval.
- 30:12I just remember that from the true crime cards we were just thinking.
- 30:19Yeah.
- 30:21Colton's dog was even impounded during one of their various searches and held as evidence.
- 30:29Despite Colton's mother's attempts to reclaim the dog, authorities wouldn't allow it because
- 30:34evidence.
- 30:35I hope he was being taken care of.
- 30:38Yeah.
- 30:39Well, though clearly as his mother pointed out, if they planned to subpoena the canine,
- 30:43they were barking up the wrong tree.
- 30:48He didn't have anything to do with it.
- 30:50I know.
- 30:51Leave the dog alone.
- 30:52I know.
- 30:53I, it really stressed me out when they were talking about the dog.
- 30:58So that's why there are so many puns.
- 31:00I was like, I just, I got to figure out how to stress me out.
- 31:05Oh, no.
- 31:06What to do with my hands?
- 31:07Leave Orval alone.
- 31:09I love how you just, you just named him.
- 31:13In all seriousness, they probably thought that the dog would be easy leverage with the
- 31:18kid.
- 31:19I mean, they wanted to bring his spree to an end without blowing their overtime budget.
- 31:25A number of people that knew Colton well commented throughout the documentary that he was always
- 31:30on the hunt for a new source of adrenaline seemingly.
- 31:34And it certainly doesn't seem like he was a complete dummy.
- 31:39We already know he was pretty good at getting away with his crimes and that they would eventually
- 31:44take on a whole new scale.
- 31:47So as you might suspect, his pooch didn't stay at the pound for long.
- 31:52Of course the guy who steals things is going to steal back his dog.
- 31:57Oh, thank goodness.
- 31:58I was dying.
- 31:59I was like, really?
- 32:00Is this real?
- 32:01Because they do a cartoon animation of it.
- 32:06So is this real?
- 32:07Did he really do this or come on?
- 32:10How much artistic license are we taking?
- 32:12Nope.
- 32:13Nope.
- 32:14Much to the dismay of the authorities.
- 32:17The haven't.
- 32:18The one thing I'm okay with him stealing is the dog.
- 32:21I know.
- 32:22Well, especially after his mom tried to get the dog back and they were like, nope, it's evidence.
- 32:27And she was like, pole gay.
- 32:29I mean, I can see where they're coming from, but I mean, I feel like that's pretty thin,
- 32:35guys.
- 32:36More of a sauce spot for the dog because the dog doesn't know what's going on.
- 32:38It just knows it's not what it's human anymore.
- 32:40So that's what breaks my heart.
- 32:43Well, and I was really worried.
- 32:44I was like, okay, yes, this is based in the Pacific Northwest, but it's a small island.
- 32:50I don't know what their resources are.
- 32:51I was scared, shitless, that they were going to tell us that this dog was taken to like
- 32:57a kill shelter or something.
- 32:58I was like, I won't finish this documentary.
- 33:02I wouldn't listen to the story.
- 33:04No, there was another dog.
- 33:05Nope.
- 33:06We'd have to go.
- 33:07No, that would be a very short episode.
- 33:11That's the crime.
- 33:12I'm fucking cares about the Bahamas.
- 33:15Okay, but I want to know about the Bahamas.
- 33:18Yeah, I know.
- 33:19Yeah, yeah, it's kind of a big part of the whole thing.
- 33:24So remember how I said that he would be arrested after making it all the way to the Bahamas.
- 33:31But that wasn't the first plane that he'd stolen and then subsequently crashed.
- 33:35Do you remember I said something about that?
- 33:37So he crashed more than one plane.
- 33:40How do you, oh my God.
- 33:42Well, listen, if you're trying to learn how to fly a plane from a book, right?
- 33:47After crashing one plane, I would not, how do you get back at another plane?
- 33:51He is a young dumb teenage boy.
- 33:57I feel like they do I need to say more?
- 34:01God, plane crashes.
- 34:03Yeah.
- 34:04Yeah.
- 34:05So I think this next part could be part of the explanation for how the story seemingly blew
- 34:09up.
- 34:10I mean, aside from the overall outlandishness of his series of crimes.
- 34:16In November 2008, he reportedly stole the plane of then radio personality Bob Rivers from
- 34:22a hangar on Orcas Island.
- 34:24Wow.
- 34:25So it's kind of like you fuck with a celebrity stuff and you're already like escalating.
- 34:29Like, yeah, I could see Bob maybe getting on the mic and being like, this fucking kid stole
- 34:36my plane.
- 34:37Did they know who stole it?
- 34:40I don't know that they were confident right away because at this point, he hadn't stolen
- 34:48a bunch of planes.
- 34:50So they're like, who could have done this?
- 34:52And actually, I think initially they were sort of, the authorities were sort of like, oh,
- 34:55there's got to be like, they suspected maybe even like drug runners or something.
- 34:59That makes sense.
- 35:00Like that or like terrorists or something bigger than just a teenager.
- 35:05Mm-hmm.
- 35:06Yeah.
- 35:07Joy right now.
- 35:08Yeah.
- 35:09But that plane, a Cessna 182, was valued at over $150,000 pre-flight, which is, I gotta say,
- 35:19pretty fucking cheap for a plane.
- 35:20Okay.
- 35:21We're gonna learn.
- 35:22I'm guessing significantly less afterwards because Colton may have taught himself how to fly
- 35:28a plane essentially, but for all his efforts, playing flight simulator games and reading
- 35:34aircraft manuals, he hadn't taught himself how to stick the landing.
- 35:40That's a very important part of flying a plane, I feel like.
- 35:46Sort of essential if you ever want to do it again.
- 35:48It's like, oh yeah, okay, I did it.
- 35:50I'm a, I'm a shit.
- 35:52Oh, I gotta get back down, guys.
- 35:54I've really miscalculated.
- 35:56I got, I got too excited.
- 35:58I blew my load too soon.
- 36:00Oh my God.
- 36:02Well, 300 miles east, he crash landed it on the Yakima reservation, fleeing from the crash
- 36:08site before authorities made it to the scene.
- 36:12They landed on a reservation.
- 36:14I mean, he crashed on a reservation.
- 36:17He clearly was not in full control of where this plane was going.
- 36:22I think as the crash landing implies, they've been through enough.
- 36:26Yeah.
- 36:27Seriously.
- 36:28I'm happy about that.
- 36:32Honestly, this next crime might seem like small potatoes compared to the theft of an
- 36:37actual ass airplane, but he also robbed a grocery store on Orcas Island as well.
- 36:43Oh, yeah, he got hungry after all that crashing.
- 36:46Totally.
- 36:47Based on the surveillance footage, I think I've actually been to that grocery store on
- 36:51the island, even without seeing the footage from the store.
- 36:54That would be a fair assumption, though, because it's not a large island.
- 36:59And unless a lot has changed since I was last there, I don't think there's a Walmart
- 37:04Super Center or similar down the road.
- 37:09There's not that many places to go.
- 37:11Anyway, the footage is grainy, but what is visible is an individual driving a forklift directly
- 37:17into the ATM machine.
- 37:22It's funny, but it's not funny.
- 37:26Colton bad.
- 37:27So random.
- 37:28You crash a plane and then steal a forklift and ram an ATM.
- 37:34Yeah.
- 37:35Yeah.
- 37:36And some of these, it's really hard to track down the exact date.
- 37:41And so some of these things might be occurring within a short time of each other, but be slightly
- 37:45out of order.
- 37:47But holy shit.
- 37:48I mean, just we've got something we're really excited to share with you guys.
- 37:57Let's hear a few words from our new pod besties.
- 38:03Do you love true crime, but are looking for something different?
- 38:07Do you like learning about cases so off the wall they can't possibly be true?
- 38:12Do you love history, but want to hear about what they didn't teach you in school?
- 38:17Do you like laughing awkwardly about cases that are bizarre and a little strange?
- 38:22Then we have the podcast for you.
- 38:24Join me, Lindsay and me, Madison, for Yield Crime.
- 38:29Where we discuss the funny, strange, and obscure crimes of yesterday.
- 38:34Listen every Wednesday, wherever you get your podcasts.
- 38:38And we'll see you next time with another tale.
- 38:41I sold this crime.
- 38:46I put them out creepy people.
- 38:48You can find their info in our show notes.
- 38:53Back to our crash course in aviation.
- 38:55Yeah.
- 38:56See what I did though?
- 38:57I do.
- 38:58You get it?
- 38:59With Colton, because this guy was stealing planes, trains, and automobiles left and right.
- 39:05I mean, if you're going to steal a plane, you're probably also going to steal other stuff.
- 39:09I had four glyphs.
- 39:10Yeah, I had four glyphs.
- 39:14Back home on Cmeno Island near the summer of 2009, he broke into a police officer's
- 39:19patrol car that was parked in front of the police officer's home.
- 39:24Holy shit, he's getting bold.
- 39:27Pretty brazen, right?
- 39:28Yeah.
- 39:29He stole police equipment, including a cell phone, an official issue police rifle, and a supply
- 39:36of ammunition.
- 39:38Question.
- 39:39Why is this policeman leaving a gun in his car parked out dead?
- 39:45I feel like I have seen where they have some sort of like a rifle rack.
- 39:50I sort of assume that that's got some sort of a walking mechanism to it.
- 39:56But yeah, now I have a lot of follow-up shifts.
- 39:58And they're probably like, who's going to break into a police car?
- 40:01Like, again, Colton said, "Oh, my beard."
- 40:06As the seasons changed, Colton's MO certainly had not.
- 40:11This next part of the story that I'm going to tell you gives you a little bit of an idea
- 40:16about just how much of a Charlie Fox trot situation, Colton's criminal antics, and the man
- 40:23hunt for him had become Charlie Fox trot.
- 40:27That's another one of those pilots they talk and they do the code stuff like in the military.
- 40:34What's a Charlie Fox trot?
- 40:35I think it's literally for like a catastrophic like fuck up or something.
- 40:41Charlie Fox trot is a military euphemism for a mistake or disorganization.
- 40:46It is similar to the term "snaffoo."
- 40:49Oh, okay.
- 40:50Yeah, got you.
- 40:51Which that one I know we have like been like, what does that exactly like?
- 40:55What does that technically mean?
- 40:56I know what I think, but Colton had made his way to Canada from Northern Washington.
- 41:04Because he stole both.
- 41:06Oh, okay.
- 41:07Yeah.
- 41:08Like how do you get through the border?
- 41:11Yeah.
- 41:12Did he have his passport?
- 41:14I don't think I think at this point you still did not need a passport to go into Canada.
- 41:20I forget that was the thing.
- 41:21Yep.
- 41:22And as one might do in the land of maple syrup, he briefly befriended some Canadian musicians
- 41:29when he approached them on the side of the road after their van broke down.
- 41:33Oh.
- 41:34The most adorable, like, meet cute with just like the most Canadian adult.
- 41:40They're like, oh.
- 41:42And then he became a rhodian.
- 41:43That's the end of the story.
- 41:45Right?
- 41:46No.
- 41:47When their friend arrived to pick them up, the group ended up smoking weed in the vehicle.
- 41:52What?
- 41:53Duh.
- 41:54Canadian band.
- 41:56Uh-huh.
- 41:57Uh, they seemed like super sweet and like normal people, just Canadian musicians.
- 42:07They just, you know, they're just live in life and being Canadian.
- 42:11Were they a good documentary?
- 42:13They were.
- 42:14Yeah.
- 42:15He stayed in one of the men's camper vans on his property after spending that night around
- 42:21the fire enjoying their high.
- 42:23Oh.
- 42:24I know.
- 42:25It seemed it was like kind of wholesome, honestly.
- 42:28From what I gather, he then made his way back to the state side and in Bonner's very Idaho
- 42:35on September 29th of 2009, managed to seal another sessna that he flew westward, landing
- 42:45in a manner of speaking in Granite Falls, Washington.
- 42:51The main island had been his intended landing site, but when the aircraft ran out of fuel,
- 42:59his plans had to abruptly change.
- 43:01Oh, I got to fuel this thing.
- 43:03I know.
- 43:04From the sound of things, that day he came awfully close to becoming another aviation fatalities
- 43:11statistic.
- 43:12Jesus.
- 43:13Yeah.
- 43:14I believe this is the plane that was, I mean, just a very, very short distance from
- 43:21the nose impacting with a tree stump that was like, I mean, how old this tree must have
- 43:30been because it was massive.
- 43:33And it would have just gone straight down the center of the cockpit.
- 43:36Like it probably would have smashed him to be it.
- 43:41So he's crashed another plane.
- 43:42Yes.
- 43:43Plane number two.
- 43:44I mean, yeah.
- 43:46As far as we know.
- 43:48Yeah.
- 43:49I feel like there could be planes that we maybe don't even realize.
- 43:54Who knows?
- 43:55Who knows?
- 43:56Listen, it's a lot of theft.
- 43:58It's a lot of fever.
- 44:02It's just a lot.
- 44:03It's really extra.
- 44:06When authorities were made aware of the crashed aircraft, a massive manhunt in Snohomish
- 44:11County ensued.
- 44:13Swat teams were deployed.
- 44:16But Holtin had become a ghost, vanishing into the wilderness.
- 44:21They searched the nearby area, but the only thing they could find was the cash bag that he
- 44:26left behind as he fled their approach.
- 44:29That's right.
- 44:30He literally just like, doop, doop, doop, moon walked away from Swat team.
- 44:36Reportedly with $20,000 inside this cash bag that you just dropped.
- 44:42He can get more.
- 44:43He's really good at stealing.
- 44:44He's super good at stealing.
- 44:47I mean, I don't, super good.
- 44:50Maybe that's the made-able.
- 44:51All it takes is a forklift to know.
- 44:53Yeah, I actually think that what I remember from the documentary and some of the other research
- 44:59that I did was that the whole forklift thing with the ATM, I don't think he got it open.
- 45:06It didn't actually work.
- 45:08Yeah.
- 45:09I know you're shocked.
- 45:11I was kind of thinking how he would have to smash that thing a lot and I feel like he wouldn't
- 45:16at that time.
- 45:17Yeah.
- 45:18Yeah, I feel like the authorities are arriving, sir.
- 45:22You can't get away very fast on a forklift.
- 45:24True.
- 45:25I don't think that's how he was going to escape.
- 45:29Okay.
- 45:31Meanwhile, the internet went wild for Holtin in what was cleverly coined the Holtin craze.
- 45:39The shirts, song tributes and you guys, YouTube, YouTube videos, aplenty were made by those
- 45:47looking to profit from his exploits or as the documentary shows, teens absolutely blown
- 45:54away by his brazen escapades.
- 45:56They were like, this is so wild.
- 45:58They're so cool.
- 45:59Yeah.
- 46:00A lot of reactions.
- 46:01Wow.
- 46:02A lot of thoughts and feelings.
- 46:04So I've just sent Cassie a picture of a t-shirt that was made during this era.
- 46:12I'm going to refer to it as the Mama Tried t-shirt.
- 46:16It was wildly popular.
- 46:19Wow.
- 46:20That's funny.
- 46:23Is that his face on it?
- 46:25It is.
- 46:26Correct.
- 46:27Because there is at least one infamous post of him just like in the woods when he was in
- 46:34his camping phase still on the island and he posted to Instagram during the time.
- 46:40He's like running from the law and posting from the woods.
- 46:45When he was in his camping era.
- 46:47Yeah.
- 46:48When he was in his villain era.
- 46:53His camping villain era.
- 46:55He's living off the lamb era.
- 46:57Yeah.
- 46:58Exactly.
- 46:59Suddenly, he had thousands of friends on social media.
- 47:04But for all the folk hero attention, not everyone was thrilled.
- 47:09One resident of Orgis Island, a place where Colton obviously had committed several
- 47:14burglaries, joked about selling Cass of his footprints online as memorabilia.
- 47:22That person and his wife experienced backlash real quick death threats.
- 47:29Oh, shit.
- 47:30Yeah.
- 47:31From why?
- 47:32There is it because they were trained to profit essentially off of that he's a criminal.
- 47:41Honestly, I think that's really, do we not have bigger fish to fry?
- 47:45I don't know.
- 47:46Whatever.
- 47:47But there's actually a news clip in the documentary.
- 47:51Is this someone I believe this was from Orgis Island and they were having kind of like a town
- 47:57hall style meeting.
- 47:58It looks like they're in like the high school gymnasium.
- 48:01And this guy, somebody handed him a mic and I was like, well, that was your first mistake.
- 48:08Does that man look like he needs a microphone?
- 48:11I will answer that for you.
- 48:12No, no, he does not.
- 48:15And he basically says like, everybody wants him dead.
- 48:20Like people were like at first, he was talking about like, this is like becoming a real problem.
- 48:25We got to fix this blah, blah, blah.
- 48:26And everybody was like, yeah.
- 48:27And they're like with him.
- 48:28And he's like, everybody.
- 48:29But honestly, I'd rather see him dead.
- 48:32And people were like, oh, you sure it's audible.
- 48:36People go like, yeah, which I was glad that, you know, people weren't immediately jumping
- 48:45to like, let's kill this.
- 48:47Yeah.
- 48:48Like, what some people definitely were like vigilante.
- 48:50Like a pitchfork.
- 48:51Yeah.
- 48:52What are they called?
- 48:53Yes.
- 48:54Like, the Lagers chasing after them with their pitchforks.
- 48:56Yeah.
- 48:57That was very much the imagery.
- 48:59Wow.
- 49:00I know.
- 49:01He didn't kill anybody.
- 49:02No.
- 49:03No.
- 49:04I mean, definitely, I do understand the danger of stealing planes and crashing them.
- 49:08You could kill a lot of people.
- 49:09Absolutely.
- 49:10Absolutely.
- 49:11And yes, obviously this is like, okay, we can't keep doing this.
- 49:16Yeah.
- 49:17At the height of the manhunt for Colton, he'd been squatting in a local airhanger.
- 49:24When he stole a vehicle belonging to the owner's wife and drove to their home to make calls,
- 49:30as it seemed he had been doing recently.
- 49:33He was created by the SWAT team.
- 49:35Whom he just ran away from, of course.
- 49:39Okay, bye.
- 49:41So he's squatting in their airhanger.
- 49:45He steals the wife's truck.
- 49:47He's two, those same people's home and he's been doing this, going there to make calls.
- 49:56And somebody figures out like, oh, hey, I think this is what's going on.
- 50:02Wow.
- 50:05And the SWAT team is there waiting for him and he's just like, bye.
- 50:09No, thank you.
- 50:11It places to be.
- 50:13Yeah.
- 50:14Dude must have had quite the long stride.
- 50:17This is where him being 65 is significant.
- 50:21I just imagine the SWAT team.
- 50:23The SWAT team.
- 50:24Literally the SWAT team as like little short-feeling running after him and he's just like my mini-bodies
- 50:31chasing him.
- 50:32But I mean, he was constantly outpacing local law enforcement and now these dude bros too.
- 50:39I mean, like the SWAT team get some serious training in their typically like, they're like
- 50:45a pretty hearty athletic crew.
- 50:47So a deputy recommended that locals on the island whose property Colton had passed through
- 50:53at some point.
- 50:55So this goes back to the people that got the death threats.
- 50:58He had been on their property and he'd left footprints.
- 51:02Okay.
- 51:03So he was like, well, you should take cast of the footprints and see if they could sell,
- 51:08you know, put them up on eBay.
- 51:10You know, just while his crimes are still newsworthy.
- 51:15So in the documentary, I watched the woman explained that a lot of people looked at the listing,
- 51:20but they actually received more than one death threat through eBay.
- 51:23Wow.
- 51:24Yeah.
- 51:25I don't understand why that needs a death threat.
- 51:27I know.
- 51:28Well, one of them apparently basically said that they were enabling his criminal lifestyle.
- 51:34And she was like, what?
- 51:36How?
- 51:37Like, I feel to see how exactly because they weren't planning to wire Colton whatever
- 51:43price they fetched.
- 51:45Yeah.
- 51:46But at any rate, she said they'll probably just hang them on the side of their chicken
- 51:50coop.
- 51:51Oh my gosh.
- 51:52I know.
- 51:53Still kind of cute and foxy, but like the death threats are like, oh, that's yucky.
- 51:57Here reminds me of Bigfoot.
- 51:58Like Bigfoot.
- 51:59Yes.
- 52:00That is exactly what I thought of.
- 52:01And honestly, like, it's a sizable footprint.
- 52:04So like, I know.
- 52:05Wow.
- 52:06Yeah.
- 52:07Big boy.
- 52:08Did they ever get any like, like, prints from his toes, like fingerprints?
- 52:13I don't think so.
- 52:14Oh, that would be so like a really cool way to catch someone.
- 52:18Did toes have fingerprints, like, fingers?
- 52:20I really want to look at my toes right now.
- 52:22I feel like they do because I feel like I've actually heard about cases where they identified
- 52:27people based on like the prints on their toes.
- 52:29Obviously, like, in the mud, they're not going to get it.
- 52:32But if you was like in people's home spare foot, this is like outside, like in the mud.
- 52:37So if he like went to break into someone's house and like left foot, like footprints, they
- 52:42could probably get actual prints from it.
- 52:44Right.
- 52:45Well, so here's the thing is sometimes he would leave little messages.
- 52:51He would like do like a kind of like a chalk outline around like his foot.
- 52:56And he'd put messages like, see ya.
- 52:59Like, you know, and then sign it like the barefoot bandit.
- 53:02What?
- 53:03Yeah.
- 53:04Oh.
- 53:08There's so many weird little things that I don't even really have them in my notes officially
- 53:12as like part of like the story.
- 53:15But like I figured kind of as we discuss, they would sort of come up or if they don't.
- 53:20But it's like, I don't really care if it's part of the story.
- 53:24Some of it's just kind of it's interesting or kind of funny.
- 53:28But yeah.
- 53:29So like neither here nor there, but how do they not does for top prints?
- 53:35Yeah, I don't know.
- 53:37It's so interesting.
- 53:39Yep.
- 53:40Amidst the chaos that was Colton's reign over the island, Jackson Holtz, author of Fly,
- 53:46Colton Fly, said when he asked Colton's mother what she would give him for Christmas if she
- 53:53could gift him anything.
- 53:55She replied, a bulletproof vest.
- 53:59Wow.
- 54:00Oh, that's really sad for her.
- 54:03Yeah, I think she was very fearful that this was not going to end well.
- 54:11Yeah.
- 54:12Which I feel like is valid.
- 54:14Sure.
- 54:15You know, you're committing, these are big boy crimes.
- 54:18So you might be still technically a kid through a lot of this.
- 54:22But yeah, I mean, and especially if you're armed, I could see where.
- 54:28I mean, nobody wants that.
- 54:31Yeah.
- 54:32And people obviously want him dead.
- 54:34It sounds like so.
- 54:35Yeah.
- 54:36I thought you were going to say shoes.
- 54:38Yeah.
- 54:39Oh, that was sad.
- 54:40No.
- 54:41It's so much, so much worse.
- 54:44Echoing that same dark sentiment, Orchus Island airport manager, B Von Tobel said, I think
- 54:51we're well beyond the Robin Hood stage.
- 54:54We're into the John Dillinger stage.
- 54:56I don't know if that feels totally accurate, but point taken.
- 55:03Perhaps sensing a shift in the sentiment from some Colton was on the move.
- 55:08Flintstone style again around this time.
- 55:11Get it?
- 55:12Yeah.
- 55:13Because he was barefoot behind the wheel.
- 55:14Right.
- 55:15Right.
- 55:16Right.
- 55:17Right.
- 55:18Right.
- 55:19Exactly.
- 55:20Exactly.
- 55:21Along this latest stretch of his journey as he passed through from Western Washington into
- 55:24Oregon.
- 55:25Oh, he left a note at a Raymond animal hospital that read, drove by had some extra cash.
- 55:32Please use this money for the care of the animals.
- 55:35Oh, he liked animals.
- 55:38Oh, yeah, for sure.
- 55:39He was a big animal lover.
- 55:41He signed it Colton Harris Moore in parentheses, aka the barefoot bandit, Kameno Island, Washington.
- 55:49Ever heard of me?
- 55:50Ever heard of her?
- 55:51Yeah.
- 55:53As he continued east, he broke into roughly a half dozen airports on his way before landing
- 56:01on one in Bloomington, Indiana.
- 56:05Pun intended, you know, since landing seems to be the hard part for this wonder kind.
- 56:09Obviously breaking in the airport.
- 56:12I know.
- 56:13I mean, small ones where it's like a private, you know, small.
- 56:18He took off from that airport in yet another stolen airplane.
- 56:22What?
- 56:23And flew over a thousand miles south to Avaco Island in the Bahamas.
- 56:29Casting with air.
- 56:31We're in the Bahamas finally.
- 56:33I just wanted to go bucket list.
- 56:36Not on this plane.
- 56:38Yeah.
- 56:39New.
- 56:40Those that witnessed his descent said he did fairly well.
- 56:43But I guess it's all relative because court documents show that over $600,000 in damages
- 56:50were done related to the destruction of the aircraft and other equipment.
- 56:55Wow.
- 56:56Yeah.
- 56:57Yeah.
- 56:58It's a lot.
- 57:00This plane was said to have been running low on fuel at the time of his crash landing on
- 57:04the island.
- 57:06Turns out it might be a little harder to push the fuel gauge when you're piloting a plane
- 57:11as opposed to sort of just, you know, coasting downhill in neutral in a car.
- 57:16Doesn't.
- 57:17Can't use that same tactic.
- 57:19No, you shouldn't different, different things.
- 57:23Yeah, different things.
- 57:24I mean, you can technically, but then he did it.
- 57:28Yeah.
- 57:29Sure did.
- 57:30I did it.
- 57:31I did it.
- 57:32Did you die?
- 57:33Exactly.
- 57:34Exactly.
- 57:35Very nearly sometimes.
- 57:37This one sounds like it was smoother.
- 57:40He was learning.
- 57:41He still didn't hurt anyone though, did he?
- 57:43No.
- 57:44Okay.
- 57:45So didn't, you know, refuel.
- 57:52I mean, it's kind of hard to refuel a plane that you've stolen.
- 57:55Right.
- 57:56That's true.
- 57:57So there's that.
- 57:58Also, he could be, you know, like me where it's red.
- 58:00It's fine.
- 58:01I'll get there.
- 58:02Yeah.
- 58:03It's fine.
- 58:04You just pray to whatever other worldly being you believe in.
- 58:07That's right.
- 58:08Get there.
- 58:09I pray to all of the gods, the old and the new.
- 58:13It wasn't long before the FBI began officially working with Bahamian authorities to try to
- 58:20track Colton down.
- 58:23He quickly resumed his habit of frequent burglaries.
- 58:26Because.
- 58:27What else is he going to do?
- 58:28I know.
- 58:29Old habits die hard.
- 58:30He doesn't have any stuff.
- 58:31Exactly.
- 58:33He broke into a restaurant with a crowbar, later sneaking across the dock to steal a boat
- 58:38to make his way to the Alutra and Harbor Islands.
- 58:42Where he totally chilled out.
- 58:45Just kidding.
- 58:46Obviously not.
- 58:47I don't see that for him.
- 58:49He has zero chill.
- 58:52At the Harbor General Store owner Ruthie K. allowed him to plug in his laptop and use the
- 58:58Wi-Fi.
- 58:59Very nice.
- 59:00Because he was like, I don't have any money.
- 59:03And she was like, that's fine.
- 59:04He's like, are you sure?
- 59:05And she's like, take the yes, dude.
- 59:09And she even offered him a sandwich.
- 59:11And he was like, again, zero dollars, zero cents.
- 59:16And she was like, again, take the yes.
- 59:20She's definitely like a mom energy.
- 59:22Yeah.
- 59:23You know, I'll take the sandwich too.
- 59:25I know.
- 59:26She said that like many Islanders, when she learned about his background, she truly didn't
- 59:30want him to get caught.
- 59:32Wow.
- 59:33Okay.
- 59:34Well, she reflected on her own experience as a single mother of three and really felt
- 59:41for a kid that didn't seem to have the same family support system that she'd had.
- 59:46Yeah.
- 59:47I could see that.
- 59:48Yeah.
- 59:49I mean, she had people to back her up.
- 59:51And you know, she talks about it really briefly in the documentary, but she was like, it
- 59:55was such the other end of the spectrum from people that were like wishing him dead.
- 1:00:02Yeah.
- 1:00:03I don't know.
- 1:00:05Like, wow.
- 1:00:06Okay.
- 1:00:07So maybe the energy is a little bit better on a tropical island.
- 1:00:09Who would have thought?
- 1:00:10He's still a kid.
- 1:00:12I mean, at this point, by the time he lands in the Bahamas, he is 19.
- 1:00:17But you're still a kid.
- 1:00:18Very much a kid.
- 1:00:19Yeah.
- 1:00:20Your brain is not what fully formed until you're like 26 or 25 or 25.
- 1:00:24Yeah.
- 1:00:25Yeah.
- 1:00:26Plus, he's also been literally living on the run for multiple years.
- 1:00:31I mean, going on three years at this point.
- 1:00:34Wow.
- 1:00:35It's a lot.
- 1:00:37He's not really thinking super clearly for a lot of reasons.
- 1:00:42Yeah.
- 1:00:43You know?
- 1:00:44On the islands, he was doing anything but lying low.
- 1:00:47So again, not thinking super clearly.
- 1:00:50In fact, he was trying to attract attention if anything, telling those nearby on the island
- 1:00:57docks.
- 1:00:58He was just bought and around.
- 1:00:59He said, call the cops.
- 1:01:01Frankly, he was bored and he wanted to be chased.
- 1:01:04So he's like egging the locals on.
- 1:01:09Some of the locals would prove happy to oblige.
- 1:01:14Ten or 12 of one of the witnesses' friends on that very dock showed up and gave chase after
- 1:01:20Colton from there on the water.
- 1:01:24There was a reward posted for him at this point.
- 1:01:26So that kind of figures.
- 1:01:27They're like, yeah, we'll take free money to track this kid down.
- 1:01:33And that whole situation, but did they know who Dini he was?
- 1:01:39They did.
- 1:01:40Yeah, no, they were aware of the reward.
- 1:01:42So they were like, who Dini Ness?
- 1:01:44Yeah.
- 1:01:46The man captaining the boat, chasing the team, said that Colton had some serious skills behind
- 1:01:52the wheel.
- 1:01:53And that's saying something because that particular man, he'd been behind the wheel of a boat all his
- 1:02:00life.
- 1:02:01I mean, you live on an island that's right.
- 1:02:04I mean, it's like a part of the culture, but he had also in back received some formal training.
- 1:02:10So I think, you know, he did this professionally.
- 1:02:13So he's like, yeah, no kids got skills.
- 1:02:15A kind of wild.
- 1:02:16It kind of like feels like a waste.
- 1:02:18Like he could have done something, a boat rider, a pilot, a car driver.
- 1:02:24I don't know.
- 1:02:25Something.
- 1:02:26Obviously he was good at stuff.
- 1:02:27Yeah.
- 1:02:28Definitely.
- 1:02:29Just utilizing it in the wrong way.
- 1:02:30Yeah, not really applying those skills in the best way possible.
- 1:02:35Yeah.
- 1:02:36Apply yourself.
- 1:02:37But do it correctly.
- 1:02:38Yeah.
- 1:02:39In any case, Colton was able to get away from the group of villagers hoping to collect
- 1:02:45on the cash reward.
- 1:02:47He's literally, I think that's where the Houdini thing makes sense.
- 1:02:51He just escapes every fricking time.
- 1:02:55You know, until he doesn't.
- 1:02:56Yeah.
- 1:02:57Spoiler.
- 1:02:58Just like Houdini.
- 1:03:00You escape until you don't.
- 1:03:02Yeah.
- 1:03:03Happens of the most.
- 1:03:06In response to Colton's audacious arrival, chief inspector Moss of the Harbor Island Police
- 1:03:14mounted an operation aimed at finally arresting Colton.
- 1:03:18Good luck.
- 1:03:20Well, he organized his on-duty officers and even called in those that were off-duty.
- 1:03:28He was like, this bitch is not getting off this island.
- 1:03:32A Harbor Island security guard spotted him at about midnight.
- 1:03:36So I'm given to understand this is the same day that he was basically being chased by
- 1:03:42the locals on the water.
- 1:03:46There's surveillance footage of Colton sprinting along the docks.
- 1:03:50Well, presumably.
- 1:03:52I think there's some actual footage and some reenactment in this dock, obviously.
- 1:03:57So I don't know if the clip that I was referring to where you see him sprinting across the docks
- 1:04:02is real or if that's, you know what I mean?
- 1:04:05Yeah.
- 1:04:06But anyways, phenomenal.
- 1:04:07Either way, love it.
- 1:04:09I love it.
- 1:04:10I think they have some real footage from him like in the Bahamas and I don't know if that's
- 1:04:15part of it.
- 1:04:16It's hard to tell.
- 1:04:17Anyways, I'm getting lost.
- 1:04:19I'm getting lost.
- 1:04:20Get lost in the docks.
- 1:04:22Run, below and Jordan's socket, both boat captains heard that the barefoot bandit was spotted
- 1:04:28near the boats belonging to them and many others and they're like, we should probably
- 1:04:33go check out our boats.
- 1:04:34Yeah.
- 1:04:35The pair essentially joined in on the high speed pursuit on the water because they were
- 1:04:40concerned that without support, the local law enforcement team might lose the team
- 1:04:44who Dini yet again.
- 1:04:45I mean, that's a fair assumption.
- 1:04:47Yeah.
- 1:04:48Even with all of that pre-approved overtime.
- 1:04:51Eventually, Colton was cornered on a sand bar at which point over the loudspeakers of the
- 1:04:58neighboring boats.
- 1:04:59He was being told he had nowhere to go.
- 1:05:03You guys aside from a kind of sad and likely neglectful childhood, this is where the story
- 1:05:10kind of takes a dark turn.
- 1:05:13After a dramatic high speed boat chase in the Bahamas, Colton puts a gun to his head, saying
- 1:05:19he's going to kill himself.
- 1:05:21He can't go back.
- 1:05:23At the same time, he's also got his back turned to the wheel and the controls and they
- 1:05:30can tell at least one of the boat captains are like, he's slowly maneuvering himself off
- 1:05:38the sand bar.
- 1:05:40So he's like steering the boat from behind himself?
- 1:05:44Yeah.
- 1:05:45Wow.
- 1:05:46He's getting off a sand bar.
- 1:05:47Holy shit.
- 1:05:48Holy shit.
- 1:05:49I know.
- 1:05:50I'm like, I wonder, I feel like there was a part of him that did kind of feel like he's
- 1:05:55kind of at a breaking point, but I feel like part of him thought, all of their attention
- 1:06:00is going to be sort of on me, but in a different way by sort of saying those things.
- 1:06:07I don't know.
- 1:06:08I wasn't there, not in his head, but that's what I was.
- 1:06:10He's given it another shot though.
- 1:06:12He was still trying to escape.
- 1:06:15I know.
- 1:06:16He's like always being maneuvering.
- 1:06:19Thankfully, in the end, he did surrender without anyone being seriously harmed.
- 1:06:24Oh, okay.
- 1:06:25I was worried.
- 1:06:26I know.
- 1:06:27I know.
- 1:06:28It gets a little scary there for a minute.
- 1:06:30The documentary has footage of Colton being transported in a bulletproof vest.
- 1:06:36Mind you, still barefoot back to the United States.
- 1:06:39Wow.
- 1:06:40Which is, it's a strange thing to see someone wearing a bulletproof vest and barefoot.
- 1:06:47Did they think people would try to assassinate him?
- 1:06:50Is that why he was wearing a vest?
- 1:06:51I think it's fair to say that yes.
- 1:06:53I think it's fair to say that they didn't want to take that risk.
- 1:06:57And honestly, I think in cases where particularly, I mean, the FBI is involved.
- 1:07:03It's high profile enough that they cannot or they don't want to run the risk of while
- 1:07:12he's in custody, anything, any harm befalling him.
- 1:07:17Yeah.
- 1:07:18I mean, it's a major issue if someone is harmed or, you know, worst case killed in custody.
- 1:07:24Right.
- 1:07:25You know, definitely see what you're saying though about like him being shoeless and bare
- 1:07:28oble at professed.
- 1:07:29Yeah.
- 1:07:30It's a very, I don't know.
- 1:07:31It's a stark contrast.
- 1:07:32It's sort of strange.
- 1:07:34But in 2012, Colton Harris Moore was sentenced to seven years in a Washington state prison
- 1:07:40after pleading guilty to bankburg, Larry, interstate transportation of a stolen aircraft, interstate
- 1:07:49and foreign transportation of a stolen firearm, being a fugitive in possession of a firearm,
- 1:07:57piloting an aircraft without a valid airman certificate, and interstate transportation
- 1:08:03of a stolen vessel.
- 1:08:05Wow.
- 1:08:06Yeah.
- 1:08:07That's it.
- 1:08:08Well, I think it's multiple instances of each in some cases.
- 1:08:15He'd previously been charged in absentia in the island county juvenile court with counts
- 1:08:21related to his 2008 to 2010 crime spree.
- 1:08:26He was also charged in the San Juan Superior Court in October 2009, which is when his arrest
- 1:08:33warrant had been issued.
- 1:08:35Wow.
- 1:08:37That sentencing US district judge Richard A. Jones noted that Harris Moore had endangered
- 1:08:44others with his, quote, "reclist conduct and a host and variety of poor choices."
- 1:08:50Yeah.
- 1:08:52And apparently the judge had just sense of humor.
- 1:08:57The judge told him it was time for a new life flight plan.
- 1:09:02Ha.
- 1:09:03Ha.
- 1:09:04Nicely done.
- 1:09:05Seriously, though.
- 1:09:06Yeah.
- 1:09:07Judge Jones ordered that Mr. Harris Moore's federal sentence be served concurrent with the
- 1:09:1387-month sentence imposed in island county Superior Court December 16, 2011, and also ordered
- 1:09:23that the federal sentence be served consecutive to the juvenile sentence that Mr. Harris
- 1:09:29Moore escaped from in 2008.
- 1:09:31So lots, lots of sentences.
- 1:09:33Yeah.
- 1:09:34I don't know that there's any part of that that I want to pick apart and say I don't like
- 1:09:39or, you know, I feel like it's, I mean, gosh, it seems fair.
- 1:09:45For once.
- 1:09:46Yeah.
- 1:09:47It was kind of fair.
- 1:09:49I feel like it seems like it struck a balance between, you know, obviously punishing in a way
- 1:09:56that sort of, well, this next part explains how we sort of try to, in a way, prove it
- 1:10:04and create some sort of balancing of the scales in terms of the debt to society and his victims.
- 1:10:13So.
- 1:10:14Okay.
- 1:10:15Interestingly, he agreed to sell the rights to his life story for $1.4 million to 20th
- 1:10:21century Fox to help pay restitution to his victims, which just right off the top, we've
- 1:10:29got $150,000 aircraft that he stole from Bob Rivers.
- 1:10:33We've got another one that he crash landed in the Bahamas.
- 1:10:37There was 600,000 or more in damage just to that.
- 1:10:41So you're up to like three quarters of a million dollars just from those two.
- 1:10:45Wow.
- 1:10:46Yes.
- 1:10:47So it probably didn't even cover it.
- 1:10:48I have to imagine that he's probably paying some restitution.
- 1:10:56Hard to say.
- 1:10:57I feel like.
- 1:10:58I hope so.
- 1:10:59Yeah.
- 1:11:00Like the barefoot bandit nickname and insists that what he did wasn't fun.
- 1:11:06It was just survival.
- 1:11:08Okay.
- 1:11:09But some of your actions seem to scream otherwise like signing it.
- 1:11:15Yeah.
- 1:11:16Yeah.
- 1:11:17And there's a lot of actions that he took that aren't strictly speaking survival.
- 1:11:21You're not stealing baby formula.
- 1:11:24So maybe he grew up a little bit and a little bit.
- 1:11:26Oh, well, maybe that was just my kid brain being an idiot.
- 1:11:30Yeah.
- 1:11:31It's hard to say.
- 1:11:32I do have some information coming up that I think will maybe shed a little bit of light.
- 1:11:37But I don't know that we get a clear indication of like what the Colton of today maybe would
- 1:11:43think.
- 1:11:44But he studied aeronautical engineering in prison and his future dream is to design planes.
- 1:11:52As of 2022, Colton has remained reclusive with his whereabouts largely unknown.
- 1:12:00Colton's lawyer, John Henry Brown, would state Colton wants people to know that he does
- 1:12:05not like the attention and that what he did was not fun at all.
- 1:12:10When he was captured on July 13th, 2010, Colton Harris more was just 19 years old.
- 1:12:18Damn.
- 1:12:19And upon his release from the Washington State Department of Corrections, Colton Harris
- 1:12:25more was transferred from his prison cell to Reynolds work release in Seattle.
- 1:12:30There is a picture of him while he was working there.
- 1:12:35And I was like, I know exactly where that building is because you can see out the window.
- 1:12:39And I'm like, I know where that is.
- 1:12:43Anyways, where he reportedly worked for his lawyer, John Henry Brown, and was required
- 1:12:49to check in and out of the work release facility.
- 1:12:54So what do you think?
- 1:12:56Was Colton a misguided wayward youth with thrill seeking tendencies or a reckless criminal
- 1:13:05who let his addiction to adrenaline spiral out of control?
- 1:13:10I feel like a little bit of both.
- 1:13:13I, my next one, maybe two things can be true.
- 1:13:16Yes, I think so.
- 1:13:18Yeah.
- 1:13:19It does sound like he changed.
- 1:13:21Yeah.
- 1:13:22Just from the little pieces of information.
- 1:13:25And he's free, obviously, now.
- 1:13:27Yes.
- 1:13:28Yes.
- 1:13:29And nothing has come of that.
- 1:13:31So hopefully.
- 1:13:32I do have a very short little Patreon bonus mini-sode where we can talk about some other
- 1:13:41things that happened around the time of his release and just prior to his release.
- 1:13:49And then maybe I'll go ahead and link you to his LinkedIn.
- 1:13:54Oh, okay.
- 1:13:57Very interesting stuff.
- 1:14:01But for now, should we do some tarot?
- 1:14:04Yeah, let's do some tarot.
- 1:14:05Just some tarot.
- 1:14:06Two of them.
- 1:14:07Okay, we're doing some tarot.
- 1:14:16Shufflin'.
- 1:14:20Houdini.
- 1:14:21Okay, I'll give these back to Caitlin so she can draw a car.
- 1:14:28Okay, me.
- 1:14:29Okay.
- 1:14:30Oh, okay.
- 1:14:31I don't know.
- 1:14:32I don't know about this.
- 1:14:35Okay, it's the 10 of swords.
- 1:14:37I'm going to let you...
- 1:14:38Woo, we haven't gotten this one.
- 1:14:40We haven't.
- 1:14:41No.
- 1:14:42It's a tennis sword and it's a ram or what is this?
- 1:14:46I think so.
- 1:14:47Like a ram school that's kind of close to a lamb.
- 1:14:50Oh, ram lamb.
- 1:14:52Ram a lamb.
- 1:14:53So it's a ram school with like bones behind it in the desertish area, maybe sand.
- 1:14:59Yeah.
- 1:15:00Could be the beach.
- 1:15:01Could be the Bahamas.
- 1:15:03We don't know.
- 1:15:04Well, it is a PNW deck, so I feel like it's probably more of a desert.
- 1:15:09Yeah.
- 1:15:10But I'm like, it could represent the Bahamas.
- 1:15:12Hey, kid.
- 1:15:13Oh, my goodness.
- 1:15:15Okay.
- 1:15:16Yeah.
- 1:15:17And as I recalled, the imagery on the traditional deck is just as dark.
- 1:15:23Yeah.
- 1:15:24This is such a cool card.
- 1:15:27It is.
- 1:15:28Yeah.
- 1:15:29Okay.
- 1:15:30The three words are exhaustion, giving up betrayal, pain and sadness.
- 1:15:37Wow.
- 1:15:38Definitely all of those things.
- 1:15:40All of those.
- 1:15:41The dad giving up on him.
- 1:15:42Well, but well, and then at the end, I think he kind of has to eventually just give up.
- 1:15:47Yeah.
- 1:15:48Exhaustion.
- 1:15:49Well, he said he was like bored too.
- 1:15:51He was like, yeah.
- 1:15:52Yeah.
- 1:15:53Yeah.
- 1:15:55And many decks, the ten of swords depicts a man lying on the ground with ten swords stuck
- 1:16:01in his back.
- 1:16:03Ouch.
- 1:16:04Yeah.
- 1:16:05Understatement of the year.
- 1:16:07Tens represent the end of a cycle and the start of a new one.
- 1:16:12Therefore this card symbolizes an end to the suffering and sadness you've endured.
- 1:16:18Just in time for you probably couldn't stand much more.
- 1:16:22That really makes me think of right before he was actually captured in the Bahamas.
- 1:16:28Yeah.
- 1:16:29Okay.
- 1:16:30There's a little bit more island energy in this card than I thought.
- 1:16:34Wow.
- 1:16:35You were right.
- 1:16:36Usually am.
- 1:16:37Yeah.
- 1:16:38Your trials and tribulations are ending, but you still need to clear away the dead wood before
- 1:16:44you can move ahead.
- 1:16:45Huh.
- 1:16:46Which that's also like kind of a beachy thing.
- 1:16:48That is interesting.
- 1:16:49But then you also like he camped and stuff in the forest and you put this nice wood block
- 1:16:56out.
- 1:16:57Yeah.
- 1:16:58Okay.
- 1:16:59Extreme stress and worrying have exhausted you.
- 1:17:03Perhaps leading to an illness.
- 1:17:05Oh my god.
- 1:17:06Okay.
- 1:17:07Well, that's going to be significant.
- 1:17:09That's we're going to talk about that.
- 1:17:11I think in the Patreon mini so actually.
- 1:17:14Oh, okay.
- 1:17:16Let the storm his past and the clouds will open up again.
- 1:17:21Like in the sky in the sky.
- 1:17:24That's where they hang out.
- 1:17:25Make a clean break from the past to alleviate pain and suffering.
- 1:17:31In a reading about money, you may need to cut your losses.
- 1:17:35Let go of possessions and or separate yourself from a past financial matter.
- 1:17:40Ooh.
- 1:17:41Like when you left that sack of money behind.
- 1:17:44That is a really good example.
- 1:17:46I'm also thinking of specifically selling the rights to his life story.
- 1:17:51Oh, yeah.
- 1:17:52That too.
- 1:17:53Tyoplus ends the move forward with the new found insights.
- 1:17:58You've gained from a painful situation.
- 1:18:01Yeah.
- 1:18:02And there it is.
- 1:18:04I feel like he definitely had a clean break from it too.
- 1:18:08It's like once you get caught and put in prison, like you can't really go back.
- 1:18:12Yeah.
- 1:18:13I mean, that's yep.
- 1:18:15So, if you're a person who's not in prison, you can't really go back.
- 1:18:22I mean, I don't know.
- 1:18:25I'm not going to go back.
- 1:18:29I'm not going to go back.
- 1:18:32I'm not going to go back.
- 1:18:34I'm not going to go back.
- 1:18:36I'm not going to go back.
- 1:18:37I'm not going to go back.
- 1:18:38I'm not going to go back.
- 1:18:40I'm not going to go back.
- 1:18:41I'm not going to go back.
- 1:18:42I'm not going to go back.
- 1:18:43I'm not going to go back.
- 1:18:44I'm not going to go back.
- 1:18:45This 10 can represent backstabbing so be on guard.
- 1:18:49That's really interesting because I just think of him with his back to like the wheel and
- 1:18:53the control.
- 1:18:54Oh.
- 1:18:55Sneaky, sneak.
- 1:18:56I was going to ask did anyone like betray him?
- 1:18:59I mean, I don't think that there was anyone close to him that really, that there was a representation
- 1:19:07of betrayal in that respect.
- 1:19:09Do you study specifically?
- 1:19:10A partner at one point.
- 1:19:12Yeah.
- 1:19:13Like, way younger.
- 1:19:14They just parted ways.
- 1:19:15I don't think there was anything to that.
- 1:19:17I mean, he was kind of stabbing himself in the back a little bit.
- 1:19:22In a reading about love, the upright 10 represents exhaustion after a period of hardship
- 1:19:28in a relationship.
- 1:19:31Sometimes it signifies betrayal or it may represent the strain of caring for a loved one through
- 1:19:37an illness.
- 1:19:38Oh, my God.
- 1:19:40Mini-sowed.
- 1:19:41Holy shit.
- 1:19:42That also just makes me think of his mom who is still cared for him from afar and wanted
- 1:19:48him to have the bullet proof fest.
- 1:19:50Yeah.
- 1:19:51Yeah.
- 1:19:52Oh.
- 1:19:53I mean, he kind of had a mental illness.
- 1:19:55I mean, if you're doing something like that, you're not completely healthy in your brain.
- 1:20:01Well, and it does sort of remind me of a story that his mom told that I mean, kind of early
- 1:20:06on in the days of him sort of Robin Hooding in the forest, if you will, the cop showed up
- 1:20:14and they were like, ma'am, was he here?
- 1:20:17And she was like, yeah.
- 1:20:19And they're like, why didn't you call us?
- 1:20:21And she's like, he was hungry.
- 1:20:22So I made him breakfast.
- 1:20:23And she talks about how she makes her hash browns from scratch and and and and and and and
- 1:20:29she was like, he's my kid.
- 1:20:31If he shows up hungry, I'm still going to feed him.
- 1:20:34Yeah.
- 1:20:35I mean, yeah, they could definitely have charged her with like eating and abetting, but she
- 1:20:40was like, go ahead.
- 1:20:41Oh, I'm glad they didn't.
- 1:20:43Yeah.
- 1:20:44That's kind of if that's a tough one.
- 1:20:46Yeah.
- 1:20:47Yeah.
- 1:20:48I think at that point, his crimes just hadn't escalated to a level where they were going to
- 1:20:53push that.
- 1:20:54But yeah, but that's a tough one.
- 1:20:58Yeah.
- 1:21:00And if a relationship ends, you may look forward to starting over and being free from the troubles
- 1:21:06of the past.
- 1:21:09Mini-sode.
- 1:21:10Also definitely general vibes from the case as a whole, but yeah, holy shit, holy shit.
- 1:21:17Wow.
- 1:21:18Wow.
- 1:21:19It's, yeah, that's crazy.
- 1:21:21Because even though he went to jail, it still feels like a better option than living the
- 1:21:27way he was living.
- 1:21:28Yeah.
- 1:21:29I mean, I just don't think you can do that long term.
- 1:21:34That's, it's certainly not sustainable.
- 1:21:36No.
- 1:21:37That's the whole vibe of this card is.
- 1:21:39Yeah.
- 1:21:40Doing something that's not sustainable.
- 1:21:42It's just draining you.
- 1:21:43That's true.
- 1:21:44Yeah.
- 1:21:45I think that's a really good, like sort of premise that you locked on to with that.
- 1:21:51Oh, thank you.
- 1:21:52Yeah.
- 1:21:53Look at you.
- 1:21:54You little witcher bitch.
- 1:21:56Yeah.
- 1:21:57I think that's all that I see.
- 1:21:58I don't have any extra excerpts.
- 1:22:02We do have our little Patreon mini-sode, which I have to say now after the terror reading,
- 1:22:07I'm super excited to get into and there's some wild stuff.
- 1:22:11There's some wild stuff.
- 1:22:13It gets, it gets kind of weird.
- 1:22:14Okay.
- 1:22:15I like weird.
- 1:22:16I think it might get into a little bit of a weird territory that will be interesting for
- 1:22:21you.
- 1:22:22Okay.
- 1:22:23Okay.
- 1:22:24Is there a high strangeness involved?
- 1:22:25Little bit.
- 1:22:26Yeah.
- 1:22:27Mm-hmm.
- 1:22:28Is the Mothman involved?
- 1:22:30No, I mean, not that strange.
- 1:22:32Yeah.
- 1:22:33Sorry about that.
- 1:22:35I do what I can, but I can't make the Mothman be involved.
- 1:22:41I mean, he seems to be involved in everything.
- 1:22:43A lot.
- 1:22:44He's got a little Mothy tentacles.
- 1:22:46Tentacles.
- 1:22:47His little Mothy and Tennis and everything.
- 1:22:50Tentacles and Tennis.
- 1:22:51They have same thing.
- 1:22:52And Tennis.
- 1:22:53Well, I think that's it.
- 1:22:55There was no extra excerpts.
- 1:22:56I know.
- 1:22:57No.
- 1:22:58I do too, but the extra excerpt is literally the Patreon bonus mini-sout now.
- 1:23:03So what are you going to do?
- 1:23:05I also just like glanced at the recording clock and it's at 11/11.
- 1:23:08Ooh.
- 1:23:09Okay.
- 1:23:10Just saying.
- 1:23:11Just saying.
- 1:23:12Well, should we get out of here?
- 1:23:16Let's do it.
- 1:23:17We have things to do, places to see.
- 1:23:21Dead people to walk over.
- 1:23:23Yep.
- 1:23:24This is fine.
- 1:23:26I agree to this.
- 1:23:29Reluctantly, but you did.
- 1:23:31What are you going to do?
- 1:23:32Anyways, I guess have a creepy ass day.
- 1:23:36We'll see you next Tuesday.
- 1:23:39Unless I die at the cemetery.
- 1:23:42Unless you Houdini away from us and we never see you again.
- 1:23:46Please don't.
- 1:23:46We like you.
- 1:23:47You know, if I Houdini away, I would also like to go to a tropical island.
- 1:23:54Yes, find us in the Bahamas.
- 1:23:58I'd like for us to be a very well-funded production that can record remotely.
- 1:24:04I'm sure they have from Bali.
- 1:24:06I'm sure they have cemeteries and tropical places too.
- 1:24:09They definitely do.
- 1:24:10I'll have somewhere to hang out.
- 1:24:12I can.
- 1:24:13Okay.
- 1:24:14Deal.
- 1:24:15Bye.
- 1:24:16Bye.
- 1:24:17Here's the thing.
- 1:24:19If you...
- 1:24:20[Speaking illegibly]
- 1:24:21Okay.
- 1:24:22Okay.
