- 1:08Speaker 1: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. Now, if

- 1:16Speaker 1: program anytime online at Talknetwork Radio dot com. Well, now
- 1:21Speaker 1: here's Richard with today's reflection.
- 1:25Speaker 2: If you love me, you will keep my commandments, and
- 1:28Speaker 2: I will ask the Father and he will give you
- 1:31Speaker 2: another counselor to be with you forever. He is the
- 1:36Speaker 2: spirit of truth. The world is unable to receive him
- 1:40Speaker 2: because it doesn't see him or know him. But you
- 1:44Speaker 2: do know him because he remains with you and will
- 1:48Speaker 2: be in you. I will not leave you as orphans.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I am coming to you John fourteen and verses fifteen
- 2:02Speaker 2: through eighteen. We have discussed the coming of the Holy
- 2:08Speaker 2: Spirit we have discovered many areas within the lives of
- 2:15Speaker 2: believers where the fullness of the Spirit is so important
- 2:22Speaker 2: in their daily life. It is the essence of the
- 2:29Speaker 2: Christians living abiding with in the Holy Spirit, is the
- 2:36Speaker 2: means of being able to do the works that Jesus
- 2:42Speaker 2: has already commanded us to do. Notice that in the
- 2:47Speaker 2: verse that we read in John fourteen he uses the
- 2:52Speaker 2: term if you love me, you will keep my commands.
- 3:00Speaker 2: How was the Holy Spirit this counselor comforter harrocleek, and
- 3:09Speaker 2: has been referred to in many versions of scripture? How
- 3:16Speaker 2: was it bestowed from heaven? You know, a tree always
- 3:23Speaker 2: lives according to the nature of the sea from which
- 3:27Speaker 2: it grew. Every living being is always guided and governed
- 3:33Speaker 2: by the nature which it received at its birth. The
- 3:37Speaker 2: Church received the promise of her growth by the Holy
- 3:42Speaker 2: Spirit on the day of her birth. It is important
- 3:46Speaker 2: for us to turn back often to the day of
- 3:50Speaker 2: Pentecost and not to rest until we thoroughly understand, receive,
- 3:57Speaker 2: and experience what God did for his people on that day.
- 4:02Speaker 2: The hearts of the disciples were ready to receive the spirit.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Now we know what we must do to enjoy the
- 4:12Speaker 2: same blessing. The first Disciples served as our examples on
- 4:18Speaker 2: the way to the fullness of the spirit. What enabled
- 4:22Speaker 2: them to become the recipients of these heavenly gifts and
- 4:27Speaker 2: what made them acceptable vessels for the habitation of God.
- 4:33Speaker 2: The right answer to this question will help us on
- 4:37Speaker 2: the way to being filled with the Holy Spirit. You see,
- 4:42Speaker 2: his first disciples were deeply attached to the Lord. Jesus,
- 4:49Speaker 2: the Son of God, came into the world in order
- 4:53Speaker 2: to unite the divine life which he had with the
- 4:57Speaker 2: Father with the life of man. In this way, the
- 5:02Speaker 2: life of God could penetrate into the life of his creation.
- 5:08Speaker 2: When he had completed the work by his obedience, death,
- 5:13Speaker 2: and resurrection, he was exalted to the throne of God
- 5:17Speaker 2: on high. This was done in order that in spiritual power,
- 5:23Speaker 2: his disciples and church might participate in his very own life.
- 5:30Speaker 2: We read that the Holy Spirit was not yet because
- 5:34Speaker 2: Jesus was not yet glorified in John seven thirty nine.
- 5:40Speaker 2: It was only after his glorification that the spirit of
- 5:45Speaker 2: the complete indwelling of God and Man could be given.
- 5:50Speaker 2: It is the spirit of the glorified Jesus that the
- 5:54Speaker 2: disciples received on the day of Pentecost, his spirit penetrated
- 6:01Speaker 2: all the members of his body. If the fullness of
- 6:05Speaker 2: the Spirit dwells in Jesus, a personal relationship to him
- 6:11Speaker 2: is the first condition for the reception of the full
- 6:16Speaker 2: gift of the comforter. It was to attain this end
- 6:21Speaker 2: that the Lord Jesus kept the disciples in close fellowship
- 6:26Speaker 2: with himself. He desired to attach them to himself. He
- 6:31Speaker 2: wanted them to truly feel one with him. He wanted
- 6:37Speaker 2: them to identify themselves with him. As far as this
- 6:42Speaker 2: was possible by knowledge, love, and obedience, they became inwardly
- 6:49Speaker 2: knit to him. This was the preparation for participating in
- 6:55Speaker 2: the spirit of his glorification. The lesson that is taught
- 7:00Speaker 2: to us here is extremely simple, but it is one
- 7:05Speaker 2: of profound significance. Many Christians believe in the Lord, are
- 7:11Speaker 2: zealous in his service and eagerly desire to become holy,
- 7:16Speaker 2: and who yet do not succeed in their endeavor. It
- 7:21Speaker 2: often seems as if they could not understand the promise
- 7:25Speaker 2: of the Spirit. The thought of being filled with the
- 7:28Speaker 2: Spirit exercises little influence on them. The reason is obvious.
- 7:35Speaker 2: They lack that personal relationship to the Lord Jesus, the
- 7:40Speaker 2: inward attachment to him, that perfectly natural reference to him
- 7:48Speaker 2: as the best and nearest friend, as the beloved Lord,
- 7:53Speaker 2: which was so characteristic of the early disciples. This is
- 8:00Speaker 2: absolutely indispensable. Only a heart that is entirely occupied with
- 8:07Speaker 2: the Lord and depends entirely on him can hope for
- 8:14Speaker 2: the fullness of the spirit. You see, they left everything
- 8:20Speaker 2: for Jesus. Have you ever heard the expression nothing for nothing?
- 8:26Speaker 2: This proverb contains a deep truth. A thing that costs
- 8:31Speaker 2: nothing may nevertheless cost me much. It may bring me
- 8:37Speaker 2: under an obligation to the giver, and so it could
- 8:41Speaker 2: cost me more than it is worked. I may have
- 8:45Speaker 2: so much trouble in appropriating it and keeping it that
- 8:50Speaker 2: I may pay much more for it than the price
- 8:53Speaker 2: which should be asked for it. Again, nothing for nothing,
- 9:01Speaker 2: this maxim holds good also in the life of the
- 9:05Speaker 2: Kingdom of Heaven. The parables, especially of the Pearl of
- 9:10Speaker 2: Great Christ and the Treasure hid in a Field, teach
- 9:15Speaker 2: us that in order to obtain possession of the Kingdom
- 9:20Speaker 2: within us, we must sell all that we have. This
- 9:25Speaker 2: is the renunciation that Jesus literally demanded of his disciples,
- 9:32Speaker 2: who had to follow him. This is the requirement he
- 9:36Speaker 2: so often repeated in his preaching. Whosoever he be of you,
- 9:42Speaker 2: that forsaketh not all that he had, he cannot be
- 9:47Speaker 2: my disciple. From Luke, chapter fourteen and verse thirty three
- 9:53Speaker 2: in the King James' version, the two worlds between which
- 9:59Speaker 2: we stand are in direct conflict with one another. The
- 10:04Speaker 2: world we live in exercises such a mighty influence over
- 10:09Speaker 2: us that it is often necessary for us to withdraw
- 10:14Speaker 2: from it. Jesus trained his disciples to long for that
- 10:18Speaker 2: which is heavenly. Only then could he prepare them to
- 10:23Speaker 2: desire and receive the heavenly gift with an undivided heart.
- 10:30Speaker 2: The Lord has left us no outward directions as to
- 10:35Speaker 2: how much of the world we are to abandon, or
- 10:39Speaker 2: in what manner. In his word, he teaches us that
- 10:43Speaker 2: without sacrifice, without a deliberate separation from the world, we
- 10:47Speaker 2: will never make much progress in grace. The spirit of
- 10:52Speaker 2: this world has penetrated into us so deeply that we
- 10:57Speaker 2: do not even observe it. We share in its desire
- 11:01Speaker 2: for comfort and enjoyment, for self pleasing and self exultation,
- 11:07Speaker 2: without our knowing how impossible these things make. It for
- 11:11Speaker 2: us to be filled with the spirit. Let us learn
- 11:16Speaker 2: from the early Disciples that to be filled from the
- 11:21Speaker 2: heavenly world with the Spirit, we must entirely separate from
- 11:27Speaker 2: the children of this world or from worldly Christians. We
- 11:33Speaker 2: must be willing to live as entirely different men and
- 11:38Speaker 2: women who literally represent Heaven on earth, because we have
- 11:45Speaker 2: received the spirit of the King of Heaven again. If
- 11:52Speaker 2: you love me, you will keep my commandments, and I
- 11:57Speaker 2: will ask the Father, and he will give you another
- 12:02Speaker 2: counselor to be with you forever. He is the spirit
- 12:07Speaker 2: of truth. The world is unable to receive him because
- 12:12Speaker 2: it doesn't see him or know him. But you do
- 12:16Speaker 2: know him. And because he remains with you and will
- 12:22Speaker 2: be in you, I will not leave you as orphans.
- 12:29Speaker 2: I am coming to you. That scripture continues with the
- 12:35Speaker 2: following verse. In a little while, the world will see
- 12:40Speaker 2: me no longer, but you will see me. Because I live,
- 12:46Speaker 2: You will live also. In that day. You will know
- 12:52Speaker 2: that I am in my Father. You are in me,
- 12:56Speaker 2: and I am in you. The one who has my
- 13:01Speaker 2: commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.
- 13:06Speaker 2: And the one who loves me will be loved by
- 13:10Speaker 2: my Father. I also will love him and will reveal
- 13:16Speaker 2: myself to him John fourteen, nineteen through twenty one.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Richard will be right back in a moment to wrap up.

- 14:10Speaker 1: to wrap up today's message.
- 14:15Speaker 2: You see, believer, it is so important for us to
- 14:19Speaker 2: recognize that the world offers many things that will distract
- 14:26Speaker 2: us from the Kingdom of Heaven. We are only pilgrims
- 14:34Speaker 2: in this land. We seek a heavenly home, a home
- 14:41Speaker 2: whose builder and maker is God, a home that is
- 14:48Speaker 2: not made by human hands, but a home that was
- 14:52Speaker 2: fashioned by the creator of the entire universe. And that
- 15:00Speaker 2: is today's reflection on the Word.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Thank you, Richard. Join us again tomorrow when we continue
- 15:07Speaker 1: with the next edition of Reflections on the Word with
- 15:10Speaker 1: Richard K or Richard on the entire team. This is
